─┈ ✦️️ʾ One more chapter for you! Remembering that English is not my first language, so I apologize if it is in old-fashioned writing or any spelling errors.

Bored, Eun-hyuk walks through the corridors of the green building, looking at how the residents are getting along with each other. He carries an imperceptible smile on his face from the little memory of his sister proposing between the lines to Hyun-su.

Crossing the hall, his eyes fall directly on her figure sitting absently. Beautiful. He couldn't help thinking. He watches as he crosses his arms, attentive to her details. The pencil in her hand, tracing perfect lines on the notebook in her lap, your foot tapping frantically to the music playing in your headphones and even the way you would unnoticedly tuck the lock of hair that fell across your face behind your ear.

For anyone this would be a cute or ordinary scene. But Eun-hyuk knew you. He loved you. Which of course guaranteed the fact that he knew you very well, and he knew something was wrong. You were nervous, anxious - worried to say the least. You always do that when you're worried, nervous or even scared. Art always called his attention and, from Eun-hyuk's point of view, he found an interesting way of escape. But still his worries did not diminish.

He really noticed how restless and distant you were for a while during the days. He is really distant because of his role as leader of the group, so it's common for 𝗵𝗶𝗺 not to see you. But strangely 𝘆𝗼𝘂 didn't go see him, which sincerely worried him, but he just thought you were thinking that you didn't want to bother him - which wasn't very unusual for you to think, as you always gave him space when needed.

He walks slowly and silently towards you. He watches intently as his fingers scratch the edge of the notebook nervously. Her head hangs down as she hums softly, wanting to concentrate on the music - anything but her problems.

Sitting down next to him, Eun-hyuk gently removes the headphones from his ears, which results in a slight fright on his part by the sudden act. You sigh as soon as you realize who it was and put on your face the widest smile you could manage - which wasn't particularly much.

"Oppa! How are you?" Through her eyes he could confirm with all certainty that something was not right. In response he just smiled, holding your hand, making you let go of the pencil, thus resting it on the notebook.

"how are you? I haven't heard from you lately, so I was worried."

"I'm fine, don't worry." lie. This was clearly a lie. You could even lie very well, but not when it comes to Eun-hyuk. His heart ached when he realized you weren't going to tell him anything, maybe to keep him from worrying.

"something happened, didn't it? You are restless. Besides listening to music, it's something you do when you're really nervous or sad. You can count, y/n. It's okay." You watch him with lost eyes, wondering if you should speak or not. Leaning back against the wall, you sigh as you stare at the ceiling above.

"it's something silly, Eun-hyuk."

"but it's still something. Tell me."

"It's just… today would be my test. The most important of the semester. The proof that I spent weeks studying because I wanted something for my future but, with all this monster business, I wonder if it even really has a future." you let out a sad laugh. You didn't want to tell because it seemed silly, but only you know what happened. a foreigner, who left her family behind to be able to make her proud and become the most studied in the family, being able to bring the life she wanted so much. Only you knew how hard you and your parents worked for you to be here today.

"I know it sounds silly but…I've been waiting for this since I was 14. I struggled, studied and even worked for it. Which in the end became nothing." a silent tear rolls down her cheek. "sorry…it's stupid, I know."

"No…it's not stupid." he guides you to sit between his legs, thus leaning on his chest. He cuddles in her arms while resting his chin on her head, not before leaving a seal in place. "I know it's important to you and I understand more than anyone what it's like to be forced to drop out of school for a bigger reason."

"but the worst of it is that I won't be able to keep our promise."

The promisse. He remembers clearly.

You were in your small apartment for an afternoon of study together. Eun-hyuk was sitting in her swivel chair while you were sitting on her bed, leaning against the wall. You let out a sigh, dropping the book onto the bed with a low grunt.

"Oppa! Why is studying so tiring?" he turns his chair towards her, looking into her eyes with a small smile. He adjusts his glasses as he gets up to sit beside her. You intertwine your hands, looking into his face in awe.

"want to know something? When all this studying, tests and simulations are over, I'm going to marry you." You said suddenly, making Eun-hyuk surprised.

"Marry?" he asks, a little desperate due to the impact of the fright.

"Of course you do, you silly! Or would you rather I marry some college freshman?"

"What? No no! Of course not… I agree to marry you."

"then…" you intertwine your pinkies, joining your thumbs together like a seal. "…it's a promise."

He loves that memory, but it grew sadder and sadder when he stopped to think about their predicament, how their futures were compromised. You bite your lower lip remembering every effort you made to finish college. It was all down the drain.

"Do not think like that. The world could go up in flames, but that's no reason to part with you. I love you. Of course it's hard but, at least for me, if we're together it's just something we'll get through. Together. No matter what happens."

You are silent, absorbing his words. You couldn't disagree, he was definitely your everything, and you couldn't let the situation stop you from thinking about a better future. He also knew that maybe things would never really get better, but he loves you. Very. And I wanted to get through it all with him.

"…Thank you, Eun-hyuk. I don't know how I would be without you. I love you so much and I want more than ever to be with you until the end."

"I love you too, so I'm going to make it happen. I will keep the promise, my love. Don't worry."

Being new at a school was the worst thing that happened in your life.

Running through the hallways and bumping into people is not the greatest thing you can think of, and being late because of the many turns in the hallways was an addition to it.

Before you can decipher your surroundings once again, it was muddled by someone who made you bump into a halt. Your eyes were shut, the pain throbbing in your head while you have put your hands on top of it caused by the harsh impact.

Upon opening one of your eyes, You saw a man trying to fix his glasses as one of its retainers was broken.

Opening both of your eyes wide, you quickly realize your actions in embarrassment. You bowed your torso in an almost complete 90 degree as you apologized.

"I'm sorry, I'm so, so fucking sorry- holy shit" you cursed and excuse yourself through the incoherent words you have spewed.

This caused the said man to look up as he had finally fixed his glasses retainers. Smiling, he assured You in a comforting tone

"Ah, it's fine! it's not your fault anyway. Though you seem lost, do you need help?" He spoke, his smile radiating a positive aura around him

You finally look up to face the man who assured you, his hands sticking out in a shaking manner, his eyes shaping into a crescent moon.

"Uhm yeah actually… it's embarrassing to say but I need help," you confirmed while you nodded, your face showing an awkward smile, though—you shake his hands anyways.

You did not know you were gonna be someone who has played a part in his life.

You just find him as your friend and he does too.

You also just find him attractive, that's all right?

right?

You also did not know you were gonna develop feelings for him at that.

But who put these waves in the door?

"You know you need to get new glasses" You suggested to the boy who has been fixing his glasses retainer for the past 5 minutes while you eat your food,

"And you know I will never let you waste your money on some dumb glasses" He retorted back while mocking you at the same time as he continues to repair the poor glasses.

A snap sound was suddenly heard causing you to stop eating your food.

Turning your head around where the sound came, it resulted in you looking towards your friend's poor glasses retainers broken in half.

Trying to hold your laugh; hand clutching onto your stomach, you failed, letting out a chuckle as you mock him for losing the bet that the glasses will break in a few weeks.

Trying to stop your hysterical laugh at the poor boy, you stood up—your hands dusting off your uniform.

You stuck out your arms, offering them at your friend to stand up,

"Come on, let's go back to class because we gotta get you new glasses later, Mr. Old man," you jokingly said before he sighs and accepted your offer, standing next to you.

The school bell finally rang, signaling the school ended—as it was time for you and Eun Hyuk to go to an eyeglasses shop to get a replacement for his old one.

Opening the store, the chilly air conditioner instantly made your body shiver making Eun Hyuk rub your back to make you warm, flustered—you instantly pry his hands off your back making him just shrug off at your reaction.

Walking through aisles after aisles, you find neon green glasses standing out in the stand full of different types of shades

Grabbing the poorly designed accessory, you tap your friends back making him turn around to face you in confusion

Seeing the green glasses in your hands, he tried to instantly pry off your frantic hands in his face as you smiled teasingly at him while you tried to put the badly made glasses in his terrified face.

“Stop, you're gonna make me ugly with that.” he finally spoke, his hands blocking his face—dropping your hands, and your shoulder slumped,

“Ah, you're no fun, this will make you more attractive, don't you want that?” you teased, making him embarrassed and rolled his eyes.

As you suggest glasses after glasses and tease him for the ridiculous ones that didn't fit him, your fingertips were suddenly scratched by the screw of the shades you're holding, making you hiss in pain.

Eun notices your eyes looking down at one of your fingertips; catches blood flowing down at it. He points his focus on you instead, making him stop checking out the glasses he had just took a hold of and put them back.

"Y/n your fingertips," he said in a concerning tone

You turned your head at him, giving him an assuring smile,

"Ah… it's nothing, don't worry about it, it's just a cut." You reassured him while he kept silent

He finally shook his head in response to your stubbornness. He grabbed your hand quickly—dragging you, making you drop the shades, the glasses being left instead on your other hand, but you stopped him before passing by the counter

Quickly paying the glasses you recently chose on him, as soon after that—his hands grip yours, dragging you out of the store,

"You know it's just a cut right? I can treat it later on" you said interrupting his panic state.

He stops into a halt and turns his head making you the one panic instead,

"You want your blood flow and act like there's a crime scene around the mall?" He said sarcastically and exaggerated, making you shocked. He continued to grab your hand and dragged you to a near pharmacy shop.

As soon as the two of you open the clear door of the store and got inside the pharmacy, you instantly and awkwardly follow him around the aisle like an attached puppy to its owner as he checks out items after item, judgment in his eyes as he gazes on the products

"You look so mean to the products, do you know  that?" you point out, cutting his thoughts and his inspection,

"I know, they are bad made brand anyways," he said, not caring while he continues to find necessary items

You snickered at his judgments, your other hand covering your mouth as he still had a hold of your hand; making you blush slightly.

As the two of you finally got out of the store, you and Eun Hyuk found a place to properly sat at

Finding a fountain with a circular seat surrounding it, you tap Eun Hyuk's shoulder pointing to the fountain

The two of you sat down while he still had a hold on your hand; making you blush slightly as the realization hits you of him holding your hand half of the time in the mall.

Getting out the necessary pieces of equipment by his other hand, he slowly sticks out your bloodied finger as his eyes inspects it thoroughly

Blushing once again in embarrassment, he looks at your almost cherry red face making him snicker, a small smile formed on his face.

Eyes wide, you roll your eyes—trying to hide your expression of being flustered. He finally dropped your finger down,

getting out the needed items to clean up your cut,

"I think I know why you'll choose the medical field as a major" you spoke up while he continues to clean your cut,

"And what is the reason for it?" He questions as he wipes the excess blood off,

"To take care of my wounds every time I do something because I'm a dumbass"

"That's true that you are a dumbass," he said in a monotone voice while he tried to control his laugh,

"Wow I'm offended Doctor Eun Hyuk" you sarcastically said, putting your other hand on your chest, giving him an offended look on your face

He chuckles silently, remembering that one time of you falling off your bike, giving him flashbacks.

Biking in the chilly wind trying to win a race against Eun once again is not great at all.

Especially if you have low stamina driving a bike fast.

You pedal faster, the chain rings spins wildly as you tried to let out breaths, being exhausted from the energy you have put while pedaling.

Though he won sadly, you tried to park your bike but your body being wobbly from the adrenaline caused you to trip and almost fell, thankfully being held by someone before your body had made an impact with the ground.

Your head turned around, as it was just your friend—you let out a sigh of relief, thankfully not embarrassing yourself once again on someone you do not know,

"You need to exercise" he inquired out of nowhere making you offended,

"Oh shut up." You retorted while rolling your eyes. You took his hands off you and continued to park your bike properly as Eun Hyuk just laughed at your wobbly state

"Stop laughing, we gotta go inside," you said, dragging him by his wrist while he continued to just laugh behind you.

Finally the cut cleaned and bandaged, the two of you shoot up from the circular seat while you inspect your bandaged finger

You turned your head towards Eun Hyuk, showing him a smile before speaking up

"Thank you," you said while you touch your bandaged fingertips,

"Your welcome," he spoke back while showing you the signature smile of his

Flustered, this caused you to rotate your head to the side to not make him see your embarrassing face.

You did not fall in love with him.

You did not.

Right?

It is just admiration that's all

You affirm yourself that, yet—why had you failed that?

It's been months, 7 months talking, laughing, and mocking each other with Eun.

"Whoever is last treats lunch" one of your friend's bets on the group, this caused you to snap out of your thoughts.

The bell rang, signaling it is lunch time—you and your friends quickly went outside of the room and ran, racing towards the cafeteria.

Running more slowly now, you panted heavily and stopped to lean down your body, your hands at your clumpy knees as your hair sticks to your sweaty face.

"YOU LOST Y/N!" One of your friends shouted towards you, making you embarrassed

You grunted in annoyance, slowly walking towards the group at the entrance of the cafeteria,

"Yeah I know, what do you guys want?" You asked them while searching onto your backpack for your purse

Your friends being shocked at you being serious treating for the lunch, they stuttered over words as they spoke,

"Y/n we were joking-" but before one of them can continue, you stopped them—pointing a finger in front of their lips,

"Shush, I'm feeling in the mood of being kind today so you guys are lucky," you teased in a 'matter of fact' tone while you continue to search in your bag

They nodded quietly, being intimidated by the tone of your voice

As you finally got your purse out of your bag, you got the group's lunch and your own as you set your tray and theirs,

"You know y/n, whenever we're about to call you, you're always with that glasses guy, Who is that anyway, is he your boyfriend or something?" One of your friends spoke out of nowhere

Choking at the juice you have been drinking, you stared towards them, eyes wide as a bright shade of red spreads over your face,

"Uhm no?- of course not! we're not dating...were just best friends" you declined their guess, stumbling over your answer,

"Yeah sure," Your friends chuckled. Realizing your actions, they quickly tease and ask questions to you non stop while your face burns red at the whole conversation,

"Come on just tell us Y/n-" before they can continue, they were interrupted by you once again, though this time—you stood up, your hands at the table,

"YES I LIKE HIM!" you shouted unconsciously as your face burns, your friend's eyes widened, in shock by your outburst

Half of the people in the cafeteria looked at you weirdly, making you shrink back to your seat, Eun Hyuk who is also in the cafeteria looks at you in confusion making your face redder in return.

Your friends being guilty tried to comfort you and rubbed your back—though, you accepted their apology quickly saying it's fine,

"I don't know why I said that- shit he's here, he probably didn't know about it right?" You panicked—causing you to curse at the same time as your eyes frantically tried to avoid Eun Hyuk's concerned gaze.

Your friends looked towards your best friend, stared back at you as one of them quickly sat beside you,

"He probably doesn't get the context, don't worry," one of your friends comforted you while rubbing your back as they look at your other friend

The two stared back at each before one of your friends offer,

"We can help you confess to him," one of them said, their eyes looking into you,

"What?" You questioned confused, eyebrows furrowed by the offer they're dealing,

"You said you like him, didn't you? it's almost what? 7 months and you just got hit by a truck by that realization, so might as well do it soon before you cry yourself to sleep" they said making you feel attacked,

"What no?-" you said in panic, stuttering once again

They stared at you, their eyebrows raised, making sure of your answer.

"Okay fine" you accepted in defeat, making their moods brighter

You regret agreeing on it.

"Why not?" They said disappointment in their voice,

"It sounds like they're gonna fuck when they're not." one of your friends spoke out randomly, making your face cherry red

Before your thoughts got clouded by lust, you slapped your face to make your consciousness back to work,

"Hah! See?~ they got a reality check because they were thinking of what it'll feel like to-"

As you finally walked on the rooftop, you saw a figure leaning on the balcony as the breezy air makes their hair flow with the wind.

Taking a deep breath, you tried to calm yourself down before walking towards the figure in a steady pace while your mind panics, scenarios clouding your mind—making you overthink.

Finally standing behind the figure, you spoke up,

"Eun Hyuk"

You called out his name, making him turn his head towards you and stopped leaning on the balcony,

"Oh Y/n you're here, what do you want to talk about?" He said, surprised by your sudden presence behind him

Soon after that, your mind quickly panics as you fiddle unconsciously on the white paper you're holding,

"Uhm- I'm- I-" you stammer over words making him more confused

'Come on Y/n, just give him the damn paper'

You wished you never gave him that paper.

Taking a deep breath once again you spoke more clearly at your words,

"Uhm… I'm here to give you this…" you spoke unsure of what to say before you gave him the piece of paper on his palm

He grabbed the folded paper out of your shaky hands, unfolding it

He finally spoke up, cutting the silent yet tense air

"Y/n… I-..." He shuttered over words before looking down at the paper again, guilt washing his entire body

Opening your eyes after you heard him spoke out, you looked up at him back as your heart beats wildly at the tone of his voice,

"So Uhm... Yeah, I.."

"I.."

"I Like You… Eun-Hyuk."

He stares at your eyes who is avoiding his dark brown ones that held a solemn look.

He bit his lip, frustration, and guilt toppling his emotion overboard as he spoke up once again

After checking things inside your small apartment being put in their respective places, you dust off your clothes to be more presentable and took a hold of your doorknob

Pushing the door open, you got greeted by the dirty hallways, making you scrunch in disgust by the smell.

Walking away from the disgusting area, you got to an elevator and pressed the 1st-floor button as you felt yourself going down floor by floor.

The elevator door finally opened—greeting you to the entrance of the building

Stepping out, you stopped into a halt—caused by a certain particular voice, making you turn your head around

hyunjae had assumed he was dreaming the first time he opened his eyes. the ceiling was familiar, but the furniture in the corner of his blurred vision isn't. he shuts his eyes, maybe he wasn't sober yet, until he processes the scent of the apartment.

it doesn't smell like him, it smells like-

he finally sits up, rubbing his eyes before scanning his surroundings. he recognises the kitchen. he recognises the shoes by the door. he recognises the couch he's on.

selfish, egotistical him thinks for a moment if juyeon knew what happened on this seat, but then he remembers that he might not be alone in this apartment. quietly sliding off the cushion, he walks to her bedroom door and lifts his fist.

if she's asleep and he knocks, he might wake her up. if she's not and he opens the door, he'd be rude.

it takes a lot of determination and discipline for him to force himself a step back. with a slight frown on his face, he fumbles over his pants, making sure his belongings were with him. then he turns on his heels and heads for the door.

little did he know that seol eun had already been awake. her sleep was less than decent and she had been sitting up, staring at her door and watching his shadow from under the gap come by and go.

she could see the hesitation.

the door sounds a muffled beep as she waits for the door to close - but she doesn't hear it. he was being careful.

yet, in her bed, where her thigh was, sat her phone, with the conversation looking up at the ceiling as if a demanding conscience would be staring down at her.

Ju 💕: can we talk today? about last night?

Ju 💕: i'm sorry if whatever i said last night hurt you, but i meant it. i don't want to have this conversation over the phone, so i'll be over at your place with dinner. i'm assuming he'll be gone by then.

Ju 💕: text me if there's anything you don't want/want to have. i should be off work around mid-noon.

seol eun scratches the back of her head, her fingers coming tangled in her hair as she brings her hand back to the front of her face.

in a miserable attempt, seol eun tries to spend the rest of her morning distracting herself. be it turning on the television or using her laptop to watch netflix or spread out her yoga mat and try doing some odd poses she just found off google - but it's not a surprise it all turned out to be fruitless.

it feels like a storm is heading her way, and it's not even because of ryu sang hyuk.

it's because of a choice she made before she met juyeon. why has she gotten herself into this mess? how did she get messily slotted between two people she lo-

and for the first time in a long time, seol eun feels her blood boil. not at anybody, but herself. she picks up the yoga mat and mindlessly hurls it across the room (or at least it tries, for the styrofoam mat is lighter than a ceramic mug).

she grits her teeth so hard, she might just crack a molar.

a heavy sigh exhales through her chest and her lips as she sits, resting against the back of the couch. the midday sunlight was spewing into her living room, coating the floor in a gentle marmalade type of shade.

it feels empty.

no juyeon to keep her company. no work to keep her distracted. no ryu sang hyuk to make her panic. no hyunjae to worry her.

it feels like she has no purpose, and yet the one thing that she should be able to do - pick one - she cannot do.

she reaches over her couch and picks up her phone, instinctively typing in mi jung's contact and rolling up the phone icon.

but just before she can hit the button, all she can think of was jacob's gentle demeanour as he picked her up the previous night. the look of pure love in his eyes was so hard to miss, seol eun kind of wished she didn't see it. because now, that is all she wishes for.

though she can say with confidence juyeon has been providing her with that unconditional love that jacob has for mi jung, for some reason, she is not treating it the same way as mi jung is.

at the end of the day, mi jung is a better person than i am. though she is rash and abrasive and vulgar but she is committed and less of a fickle.

she locks her phone.

it’s a tragedy she’s in. indecisive, anxious, in need of love that asks for no returns and yet is unable to provide what she wants.

she finds herself at her own steering wheel, staring beyond the dashboard and at the road. her eyes are tired - she barely slept the previous night. the sun is bright and high in the sky and glaring in her eyes, making her squint and turn even more anxious as if she already wasn't.

the car jerks to a halt once she's parked the car, and just about 10 metres across the road before her was the lobby of her office. so in a time of confusion, work is her only friend.

the office is quiet - everybody in her team was off for the next couple of days in lieu of the last exhibition. she dumps herself in her seat at her desk and begins whirling around in circles as if she wouldn't get dizzy.

she hadn't bothered to turn on the lights or the air conditioner or anything in the room really.

she had nothing to do.

but her childish chair twirling was abruptly halted by someone clearing his throat, and she hurriedly slams her foot down, nearly slipping off her chair.

"mr choi," she gulps and stands, embarrassed. "what- what are you doing in the office?"

"i could ask you the same," he lifts a hand and lightly gestures to her chair. "don't have one at home?"

"ah..." seol eun grimaces to herself. "i don't actually. but that's not why i came back, i was just... bored."

mr choi raises both brows in quiet surprise. he takes a few moments, then takes a small step into her office.

"i'm not gonna ask you why work is the place you go to when you're bored, but if that's the case, then i'm more than happy to send you overseas."

seol eun blinks.

"what?"

"we have a partner team in europe, you know that, right?"

"right."

"they have an opening and a special exhibition that's going from italy to spain to france and other countries and cities in the continent from next year onwards," mr choi fumbles through his briefcase and searches for a document. he reaches out and gently lays it on her desk. "i was actually just thinking about giving you a call to offer you this position but since you're here... it's like fate."

seol eun looks up from the document and watches his lips pull out into a kind smile.

"if you go, you'd have to be there in the next month, so... no pressure, i've already told them that one month is a bit too sudden so they know not to expect someone from our team. but... give it a thought or two. you deserve it."

he gives the document a pat, then turns around on his heels to leave her office. "don't stay too late, might get locked in."

she hears the lift arrive, and within seconds, she's left alone in the room, with the cover of the document staring straight back at her.

"hey, how are you?" is the first thing that juyeon says as a greeting when she opens the door. he's carrying a bag full of groceries, most of them to be left in her apartment. eggs, juice, canned drinks and fruit - it's like he was her personal caretaker.

she can't answer, except automatically tip-toe to kiss him on the cheek as he walks in. he doesn't reject it, but neither does he really looks at her and grin like he normally does.

"i'm gonna make some bacon-wrapped asparagus and figure out if i can sauté some mushrooms with rice, so i hope that's fine," he lifts the bags and sets them on the kitchen island.

"thank you," seol eun quietly inhales, pulling a chair out and sitting as she helps unpack the groceries. "how was work?"

"fine," he responds with his back facing her, washing his hands. "got a bulk pre-order today. an office ordered a couple of pottery pieces from our catalogue."

"that's nice."

and seol eun is grateful for the noisy plastic sounds that fill the apartment, for that was the end of the conversation.

juyeon hadn't said a word throughout his cooking, so while seol eun was battling the pain of silence, all she could hear was mr choi's offer in her head.

the sun had almost set by the time juyeon was done, and the food smelled deliciously unappetizing.

this is going to be the worst dinner ever.

"here," juyeon places a plate before her, a nice mountain of rice and some beautifully sautéed mushrooms and slightly charred bacon. "tell me if they are good."

seol eun smiles weakly at him, jabbing the mushroom and shoving it into her mouth, offering a hum of appreciation before going for the bacon and asparagus.

juyeon waits.

quietly.

she shoves the other into her mouth and the same mechanic hum thrums through her throat. only then does juyeon take a seat and start picking at his food.

"juyeon-"

"seol eun-"

both parties look at each other with slightly stunned eyes.

"you go first," juyeon gestures.

"no, you go first. i know you have things you want to say and i wanna hear it."

juyeon purses his lips, then gently sets his fork down. he reaches down to under the table, probably sitting on his palms from the tense atmosphere.

"i just... lee hyunjae..." he blinks at his food before looking up at her. suddenly, his eyes look tired. "i can't help but to have this... nagging ick in the back of my head telling me that you... have feelings for him."

he studies her for a moment, then looks back down at the table surface. "i know you don't mean it and i know you're not like, cheating on me, but it doesn't make me feel that great to see you treating someone else so well. another man."

quietly using her fork to chase the mushroom around the edge of her plate, seol eun can't respond. even if she denies it, she knows juyeon won't fully believe her.

nobody would. not even herself.

"i'm sorry," she whispers under her breath without looking at him.

there's a still silence in the air as she pokes at her food.

"seol eun, i don't need an apology, i just want you to tell me the truth."

the truth?

she sucks in a sharp breath, biting down so hard on her bottom lip, she knows it's going to bleed if she doesn't stop soon.

"i don't know," she whispers again. "i'm sorry, i don't know."

silence again.

she can hear something shatter.

a gentle clink of juyeon's fork as he puts it down in his plate.

"i... do you need... time? with me? alone? anything you need, please... i-"

"i got an offer to go to europe, ju."

she finally looks up, her eyes teary. but only now does she realise juyeon is also trying his best not to cry.

"an offer? like a trip or a permanent one?"

her eyes drift back down to her food, effort that she's not appreciating enough.

"both. the europe team has an opening so my supervisor said i could go and fill it if i wanted to."

a pause.

"how long is it for?"

another pause.

this conversation is going a lot harder than she expected it to.

then again, how else was she expecting it to go?

"a year," she gulps, finally reaching and rubbing her teary eyes in a bid to disperse the tears. they glisten the edges of her lashes instead, and her light sniffle gives her away.

she wants nothing but dig a hole and cry herself to sleep now. he's hurting, and she's acting like she's hurting as much as he is.

selfish.

that is not juyeon though, for he reaches across the table and grabs her wrist, dragging his fingers up to her palm and holding them.

there's a look of disgustingly familiar distraught in his face as he considers the words to use. being together for about a month has been enough for juyeon to be able to read her thoughts, even if she cannot admit the decision she's made.

"i love you, so much. with everything i have. i wish i could give you everything you want, the way you want it. but i'm obviously not doing that, else we wouldn't even be having this conversation in the first place."

seol eun looks up, the tears now merciless. "ju-"

"no, listen to me," he reaches out with his other hand and holds hers between his palms. "i know you want to go. if you didn't want to, you wouldn't even have mentioned it."

he takes a moment to control his tears, as he watches hers trail down her cheek. he shares a weak smile, then tilts his head while reaching out to wipe her tears.

"if you need to go, go," his voice cracks. "if you want me to wait, i will. and if you don't, then..."

her nose scrunches. her lips purse tightly and her vision blurs.

"i love you, but i don't want to have to convince you to stay with me."

her resolution snaps apart like someone chopping up wood with an axe, and she chokes into a loud sob.

"ju, i'm sorry. you don't deserve this, you don't deserve me. i'm just such a terrible-"

"hey, hey, hey, no," he releases her hands and walks around the kitchen island to her side, grabbing her knees and turning her to face him. "don't apologise."

he wraps his arms around her shoulders, pushing her head into his shoulder as he pats the back of her hair. "don't... think about it, okay?" he presses a kiss into her hair.

"breathe," he mutters into the crown of her head. "no matter what happens, you will always have me until you don't need me anymore, okay? that, i promise."

seol eun smiles as she exhales an embarrassed huff, biting on her bottom lip as sang hee pulls out their passports infront of her. sang hee was right by her husband's side, carrying a puffy haversack.

hyungwon had one of his own, and seol eun could feel the weight just by the speed he was walking. his hand was tightly gripped onto hers, and he was much more fascinated with the airport's interior than the reason why he was here.

sanghee and her husband had family friends and colleagues nearby too, some talking to her husband while she occasionally looks back to check on her son.

at the gate, seol eun releases him as hyunjae walks up from behind her, handing him a little plushie and ruffling his hair.

"you take care of yourself, okay? remember to call me, else i would've given you my number for nothing."

"okay," hyungwon grins, holding the plushie and digging into its fur with his finger. "where's juyeon? he couldn't make it today?"

seol eun inhales deeply. "yeah, he was busy. some important client to meet. he's really sorry though. he wishes you a good trip."

"that's nice."

the adults can't really tell if hyungwon's lack of reluctance is because the gravity of migrating hasn't sunken in, or that he knows and is acting exactly like everybody else.

sang hee stops and turns around, offering seol eun an empathetic face. they reached the departure hall, with two officers standing at the gates greeting them, waiting to check their passports.

"will you come visit if you can?" hyungwon turns and looks up at seol eun and hyunjae, eyes sparkly and hand tightly hugging the plushie.

"of course," seol eun gives him a small smile, ruffling his hair.

"and you have to call!" he turns to hyunjae, tilting his head further up to look the adult in the eye. "we can video call."

"sure, we can," hyunjae squats, using his finger to stroke the head of the plushie and hold hyungwon's shoulder. there's a moment of hesitation before hyunjae slides his hand over hyungwon's torso and pulls him into a hug. the child wraps his arms around hyunjae's neck, the plushie awkwardly pressed against hyunjae's back as hyungwon lays his head on his shoulder.

"i'll miss you," hyungwon whispers into hyunjae's ear.

"same," he smiles to himself, trying to chuckle the tears away. but he quickly recovers, standing up and clearing his throat as he nudges hyungwon towards sang hee.

"i'll send you our address when we're there. sang hyuk will be staying near us but not the same unit, so if you ever decide to come visit, you won't need to worry about running into him. he last told me he's planning to start a studio there so... he should be busy."

seol eun nods, watching hyungwon let his dad check his coat and fix his hair.

"take care of yourself, okay?" sang hee reaches out and rests both hands on her shoulders. "take that offer if you want to. do what you know is best for yourself and don't let anybody take anything from you ever again, okay?"

seol eun nods.

the elder pulls her into a tight hug, patting the back of seol eun's head.

"i hope i'll see you soon," she whispers into seol eun's ear. then, she pulls away and hugs the rest who came to say goodbye.

with glazed eyes and reluctant waves, hyunjae and seol eun bid the family of three goodbye at the entrance to the departure hall. sanghee goes in first, smiling kindly at the two adults.

her husband reaches down, telling hyungwon to hand the security officer his passport - but once he had handed it over, he turns around and dashes towards seol eun, shoving his head into her stomach.

"please come visit," he mumbles into her shirt. seol eun's lip twitches as she blinks the tears away, taking a moment before squatting and brushing his hair out of his eyes.

"of course. anything for you."

hyungwon pouts a little, and to her surprise, he kisses her on her cheek.

seol eun chuckles and ruffles his hair again, letting him run back to his father's side and receive the passport.

"thank you," he says to the officer, and turns to look at her again when his father hands the passport to the officer.

in those few seconds, seol eun believes hyungwon is the only boy she will ever love unconditionally; who will ever love her without a hint of lust or complication.

soulmates across generations; across families.

seol eun doesn't even try to crane her head - she doesn't think her heart can stand it, so it's just a wave, then two, then three and four, and then they disappear behind a wall.

the crowd disperses. seol eun and hyunjae politely say goodbye to some of them as kind gestures, leaving the two of them alone and in awkward silence. hyunjae silently slides his hands into his pockets, walking towards her and standing perpendicular to her shoulders.

"i'm sorry."

seol eun turns to look at him.

a pause.

she looks away.

"i chose to help you. it wasn't your fault."

"i shouldn't have gotten drunk."

"we shouldn't have done many things," she says quietly. "but regretting it now isn't gonna let us undo anything so... there's no use for it, is there?"

hyunjae turns to look in the same direction she's looking at.

"i'm sorry about juyeon."

seol eun looks at the floor, then shakes her head. "would've happened either way. over time, i would've figured out that i'm not good enough for him and he'd figure out that i'm useless... not that he'd ever admit it."

"i'd refute that but-"

"i'm moving," she blinks and turns to him, finally facing him and looking at him in the eye. "for work. to europe."

hyunjae processes the information by looking back and forth her eyes, trying to find any hint that she was lying.

but she has no reason to, if anything, she'd be more than happy to leave this place.

"first, hyungwon, now, you?" a pathetic snigger. "i'm really not destined to have nice things, huh?"

contemplation holds her back for a second, but just like hyungwon suddenly turning and hugging her, she surprises him with a slow hug around his torso.

she rests her head against his chest, listening to his heart as her eyes flutter shut. "i hope you find what you've been looking for."

his chest expands, then sinks as he wraps his arms around her.

"think i already did," he whispers. "but... thank you for letting me go... because i don't think i would've ever walked away, and if we do meet again in our next lives, please fall in love with me."

seol eun frowns. her nose sours. his arms tighten around her, his chin resting on the crown of her head.

"i've loved you once, i can love you again."

All the dramas I’ve watched in 2020

These are all the dramas that I watched in 2020, with some review there should be NO Spoilers. I think I watched a lot more than usual probably because what else am I supposed to do between school and quarantine. So this is gonna be a long one...

Crash Landing on You (Lee Jung-hyo, 2019-2020)

Main Leads: Hyun Bin and Son Ye-jin

Episodes: 16, 70 to 110 Minutes 

Thoughts: I enjoyed this drama, and it was a good one to start 2020 with. I thought it was a perfect blend of romance, comedy, heartfelt, found family, action, and some tragedy. I would highly recommend it, especially for those who are new to Kdramas. Also fun fact this is my first Hyun Bin drama. Rating: Fun and adorable

Tale of Nokdu (Kim Dong-hwi, 2019)

Main Leads: Jang Dong Yoon and Kim So Hyun

Episodes: 32, 35 minutes

Thoughts: I actually started watching this when it was airing but I stopped around episode 13 because of my busy schedule and finished it in the new year. I adore the main couple, the romance, comedy, the found family, and the women center story. I thought it shined the brightest when it was focused on the group and its funny and warm moments but once it got too political it kinda fell flat. I loved the ending, however. Also, I really like Jang Dong Young as an actor, I saw him in Solomon’s Perjury (2016) and Mr. Sunshine (2018) and I loved how he played Nok Du too. Rating: I love a women’s only widow village

I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (Han Ji-seung, 2020)

Main Leads: Seo Kang Joon and Park Min Young

Episodes: 16, 60 minutes 

Thoughts: I really liked this drama, probably one of my favorites this year. As you will notice I enjoy quieter and more slow-burn stories. Also, I am a fan of Park Min Young she tends to pick more interesting and strong-willed female roles, so it is really enjoyable to watch.  Rating: makes me want to own a book store.

King: The Eternal Monarch (Kim Eun-sook, 2020)

Main Leads: Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun

Episodes: 16, 70 Minutes

Thoughts: Confession; I am actually not the biggest fan of Lee Min Ho, nothing against him I just hate rich bratty characters and he tends to play them. However, I surprisingly really liked his character, he wasn’t a rich brat he actually was likable. I also really like Kim Go Eun, she is actually one of the main reasons why I watched and also with all the hype around it. Woo Do Hwan, who I have always liked, stole the whole show, however. I didn’t hate it like a lot of people, I really liked the characters, I liked the romance and the action. Also, Lee Min Ho and Kim Go Eun’s hugs were absolutely fabulous. It wasn’t my favorite and there were too many product placements, but I don’t think it was the worst drama this year. Rating: Lukewarm 

A Piece of your mind (Lee Sang-yeob, 2020)

Main Leads: Jung Hae In and Chae Soo Bin

Episodes: 12, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I actually really liked this drama despite the low views, again I’m big on slow burn stories and character focus. I believe the episodes were cut from 16 to 12 I don’t know exactly why maybe because of the Pandemic or due to viewership or a mixture of both. Despite its being cut short I really liked the ending, and I thought the two leads were sweet. Rating: Wish we had more time to develop the characters.

Its Okay not to be Okay (Park Shin Woo, 2020) 

Main Leads: Kim Soo Hyun and Seo Yea Ji and Oh Jung Se 

Episodes: 16, 70 to 85 minutes

Thoughts: Out of all the dramas I talked the most about this one. I have always been a fan of Seo Yea Ji since Save Me (2017) and Lawless Lawyer (2018) and I am happy to see her getting more recognition because of this role. The entire cast was amazing and I think I cried every episode. Such a good and heart-wrenching drama which is why I chose to watch it before work every time. Rating: I would let Seo Yea Ji stab me with a knife anytime.

Mystic Pop up bar (Jeon Chang-geun, 2020) 

Main Leads: Hwang Jung Eum and Yook Sung Jae and Choi Won Young

Episodes: 12, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I actually watched this while I was watching Its Okay Not to Be Okay and it was a nice balance to it because this was more of a found family story with less heartbreaking moments. Though it did have its share of heartbreak. I really liked all the characters and their relationship. Also, I am a sucker for bureaucratic fantasy/ magic, and kdramas are so good at it. Rating: I wish it was 16 episodes. 

When the Camila Bloom (Cha Yeong Hoon, 2019) 

Main Leads: Gong Hyo Jin and Kang Ha Neul

Episodes: 20, 63 to 75 minutes

Thoughts: I liked the story overall, the romance was cute and the mystery was interesting but I thought the family expectations was the best part of the story. This was not my favorite drama, but it was enjoyable and heartfelt. I watched it right after It's Okay Not to Be Okay and while I was watching Flower of Evil (2020) which probably is why I was so underwhelmed by it. Rating: Sweet romance and adorable found family.

Flower of Evil (Kim Cheol Kyu, 2020) 

Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Moon Chae Won

Episode:16, 70 minutes

Thoughts: This was my favorite drama of this year. I went into this drama not thinking much of it, and I mainly watched it as a post drama blues drama. It was an action and thriller which I mainly don’t get attached to plus I am a huge fan of Lee Joon Gi. I should have known better, I cared so much about all the characters, the acting phenomenal, also every time they showed their hands I cried. This drama left me shriveled and empty inside. Rating: Lee Joon Gi will literally kill me one day. 

Put Your Head On My Shoulders (Zhu Dongning, 2019) 

Main Leads: Xing Fei and Lin Yi 

Episodes: 24, 40 to 45 minutes

Thoughts: This is the first Chinese drama on this list. I thought it was cute, I liked the couple and thought it was alright. I started to dislike the male lead later in the series but it was overall fine. It was basic and sweet with very little drama. Rating: It did its job.

The School Nurse Files ( Lee Kyoung Mi, 2020)

Main Leads: Jung Yu Mi and Nam Joo Hyuk

Episodes: 6,  45 to 57 minutes

Thoughts: This is probably my second favorite drama. I couldn’t tell what happened in the drama but I loved it. I thought it was weird and fascinating, and just so magical. I loved the children and just how the whole school was just off its rocker. I also think that Nam Joo Hyuk does really well in serious roles, and I thought he did a really good job here. Rating: 1 jelly heart.  

Mr. Heart (Park Sun Jae, 2020) 

Main Leads: Cheon Seung Ho and Lee Se Jin

Episodes: 8, 11 Minutes

Thoughts: This was 8 episodes of start fluff and I adored it. Apparently, it is apart of a BL series by Park Sun Jae and there is a movie version that I haven’t watched. If you want to destress and watch just fluff this is the show for you. Rating: If it is any sweeter I would be going to the dentist. 

You are My Destiny ( Ding Ying Zhou, 2020) 

Main Leads: Xing Zhao Lin  and Liang Jie

Episodes: 36, 45 minutes

Thoughts: I hated this drama, I thought it was the worst thing ever. I don’t know why I even watched all 36 episodes. Apparently, it is a remake of a popular 2008 Twaniese drama Fated to Love You and there is a Korean remake of it as well. I have watched neither of them, so I was brand new to this story. I hated, despised the male lead. He was whiny, entitled, and an asshole. The only good part of the drama was the male and female lead actually had a lot of chemistry, unfortunately, they are playing awful characters. Rating: This was made in 2020???

First Romance (Ding Pei, 2020) 

Main Leads: Wan Peng and Riley Wang

Episodes: 24, 45 Minutes

Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama. Similar to Mr. Heart (2020) this show was super fluffy. I really liked the main couple they seem to respect each other and they both had adorable crushes on each other. I loved the whole dumb jock and dumb artist dynamic it was so funny. Rating: Cute!!! 

Lost Romance ( Eri Hao, 2020) 

Main Leads: Marcus Chang and Vivian Sung

Episodes: 20, 70 minutes 

Thoughts: This is the only Twainese drama on this list. I think I liked this drama, I actually only remember very little of this drama. I like the CEO in the real world more than the book world, and I also really liked the female lead except she lowkey stalked the CEO like that was not okay. Rating: I think I liked it???

When We Were Young ( Deng Ke, Liu Guo Hui, 2018)

Main Leads: Neo Hou and Wan Peng and Gala Zhang and Pan Mei and Ye Marcus Li

Episodes: 24, 45 minutes

Thoughts: I really liked this film, I loved all the characters and thought it was all very heartfelt. I cried like a baby, and Hua Biao was such a touching and relatable character. And the whole grandma story hit so close to home. Rating: Made me cry like a baby.

Moment of 18 ( Sim Na Yeon, 2019)

Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Kim Hyang Gi

Episodes: 16, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I really liked this drama, and I thought the romance was so cute. I also really liked the relationship between the moms and was sad that the rich mom was a bitch and ruined the friendship. I also wasn’t a big fan of the ending, but I loved the rest of it. Rating: The main lead is part of a boy group because he had a random singing moment. 

Perfect and Casual ( Li Shuang, 2020) 

Main Leads: Miles Wei and Xu Ruo Han

Thoughts: This is another Chinese drama on this list. I’m pretty sure it's considered an Idol drama so that sets your expectations. I really liked this drama a lot, I am a big fan of contract marriages and I thought the leads were so cute together. Also, this is the first contract marriage drama where the leads don’t break up which I like. A lot of the drama came from outside of the relationship. Rating: You can’t analyze love.

Le Coup De Foudre ( Wang Zhi, 2019) 

Main Leads: Janice Wu and Zhang Yujian

Episodes: 35, 45 minutes

Thoughts: My favorite Chinese drama on this list. I loved this drama, I thought it was sweet and simple and the main couple was so realistic. Unpopular opinion I disliked the second couple and the best friend I thought she was annoying and brattish. However, I adore the main couple and their relationship. Rating: Realistic sweet romance. 

More Than Friends ( Choi Sung Bum, 2020)

Main Leads: Ong Seong Wu and Shin Ye Eun

Episodes: 16, 70 minutes

Thoughts: I enjoyed the overall story and characters. I loved the group and their relationships. Also, Young-Hee made me cry, and her relationship with Hyun Jae was so sweet. The main leads were also sweet, and I related a lot to Lee So. I just didn’t like the back and forth. Rating: How many times can we break up in a drama. 

Be With You ( Zhou Miao, 2020) 

Main Leads: Ji Xiao Bing and Zhang Ya-Qin

Episodes: 24, 45 minutes

Thoughts: This is the last Chinese drama I watched this year. It was alright, the romance was sweet, I really like the female lead, and the male lead was nice to look at. It was okay. Also, the second couple was so ??? She was his boss, enemy, and older than him, what?? Rating: Sometimes you need to fall in love to be creative. 

Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo ( Kim Kyu Tae, 2016) 

Main Leads: Lee Joon Gi and Lee Ji Eun (IU) 

Episodes: 20, 60 minutes

Thoughts: I know I am really late watching this, but I finally did. I went in knowing this would hurt me and Lee Joon Gi already scared me this year ( damn this man) so I was fully prepared. I really wasn’t,  it so much. (SPOIlERS) When Wang Eun and Park Soon Deok died I sob like a baby (SPOILER ENDING). It took me a long time to finish this show because its heart so much, like it physically hurt me. The show was really good, and heartbreaking, and the ending stabs me in the heart 20 times. Rating: Lee Joon Gi is trying to kill me with tears. 

Persona ( Lee Kyoung Mi, Yim Pil Sung, Jeon Go Woon, and Kim Jong Kwan, 2019) 

Main Leads: Lee Ji Eun (IU) 

Episodes: 4, 19 to 27

Thoughts: This is a collection of mini-films by directors. 4 separate stories are starring Lee Ji Eun. I thought all of them good, especially “ Kiss Burn” and “Walking at Night.” There isn’t much else to this, more than it is an artistic display of filmmaking. Rating: Hipster Kdrama

Come and Hug Me ( Choi Joon-bae, 2018) 

Main Leads: Jang Ki-Yong and Jin Ki-Joo

Episodes: 32, 35 minutes

Thoughts: I actually just finished this show today. I really liked it, I thought it was both sweet and heartwarming/wrenching. I hated that one journalist and the public like why are they blaming a victim. I didn’t watch it with my full mind because I’ve been distracted lately, but I did enjoy it. Rating: another cute but sad couple. 

Movies I watched this year: 

Spell Bound ( Hwang In Ho, 2011)

Main Cast: Son Ye Jin and Lee Min Ki

Running Time: 114 Minutes

Thoughts: I watched this at like 12 am after a bad day and it was cute. I love RomCom fantasy, which I think Korean media does really well. I don’t know what else to say except it is a really cute romance. Rating: Is it the ghost or the butterflies

The Host ( Bong Joon Ho, 2006)

Main Cast: Song Kang Ho and Byun Hee Bong and Park Hae Il and Bae Doona and Go, Ah Sung

Running Time: 119

Thoughts: This film I had to actually watch for class. It was a really good film which is expected from Bong Joon Ho. I love monster films and I thought this was a good rendition of this film. Also, The monster was so cool especially from 2006. I thought it was heartbreaking, stirring, and so beautifully shot. Rating: Oscar-worthy Direction 

Little Forest ( Yim Soon-rye, 2018) 

Main Cast: Kim Tae Ri  and Ryu Jun Yeol and Moon So Ri and Jin Ki Joo

Running Time: 103 minutes

Thoughts: I really, really liked this film. It reminded me so much of I’ll Find You When The Weather is Nice (2020) that I thought that it was based on this film but it isn’t. I have watched this film 3 times since October and every time I watch it have made bread. I really just love everything about this film, how quiet it is, the cinematography, the acting, just everything. Rating: Three loaves of bread. 

Always ( Song Il Gon, 2011)

Main Cast: So Ji Sub and Han Hyo Joo

Running Time: 106 Minutes

Thoughts: I thought it was okay, I watched it while I was knitting so I was distracted a bit. But I thought the couple was sweet, and the characters were interesting. Rating: It's Okay.

       Currently watching 

True Beauty ( Kim Sang-hyeop, 2020-) 

Main Cast: Moon Ga Young and Cha Eun Woo and Hwang In Yeop

Episodes: 16, 70 minutes 

Thoughts: This is currently an ongoing series that is actually really popular. Apparently, it is based on a webtoon, which I haven’t read. I like it so far, I always liked Moon Ga Young and I think she is a great actress. She plays Im Ju Kyung in a likable and insecure way, instead of someone annoying which could easily happen. I will be continuing watching. Rating so far: Okey dokey yo.

Live On ( Kim Sang-woo, 2020-) 

Main Cast: Jung Da Bin and Hwang Min Hyun

Episodes: 8?, 60 Minutes

Thoughts: I really Like this show. The main couple is sweet and supportive. I really like the female lead, I like that she is cold and kinda quiet, but with a sweet spot if you are not a dick. I really like the main relationship conflict comes from friendship instead of romance, I think it makes the show more interesting. Rating: I want to Join a Broadcast group.  

On My List: 

I actually don’t have anything else on my list so if anyone has recommendations please tell me. I am thinking about watching Mr. Queen ( 2020) because I really like Shin Hye Sun. I also want to watch Sweet Home (2020) the Netflix series. But please recommend me some dramas!!!

This is such a long list, and I had fun doing it and going back over all the dramas. I hope everyone has a good New year and that we will have many more good dramas in 2021!
