In regards to my last post about growing up in a different culture... I've always associated marigold flowers with the dead! Back home, we only use these flowers for All Saints Day, All Souls Day, and funerals. Don't get me wrong, the day of the dead has always been my favourite holiday. I love ripping the petals and scattering them on our dead relatives' resting places. I love how they look when hundreds of lit candles reflect on them. So, when we moved to Canada, I found it a little creepy how people just have them in their gardens. That is until I learned about their benefits for the garden. Now I'm in love, and I can't wait to plant more varieties next growing season.

Plant of the Day
Monday 25 March 2024
The rapidly growing annual or biennial Calendula officinalis (common marigold, goldins, Jack-on-horseback, Mary's gold, pot marigold, Scotch marigold, souvenir, yellow goldes, marybuds) can be found flowering all year round, especially in a mild winter. The leaves have distinctive aromatic leaves.
