Rosario’s Guide To Love

Rosario Delacruz prides herself on her knowledge. She has an IQ of 280 for crying out loud. So, if there’s one thing she knows, it’s that she knows a whole lot about pretty much everything and that she understands even more. High school graduate at eleven, Harvard graduate at sixteen, voted most intelligent in every yearbook. Although the one thing she just can’t seem to understand, the one thing that eats at her brain at night is Nico Jackson. Her very cute yet seemingly unattainable coworker.

Other than her huge brain and the ego that comes with it. Rosario is known for her charm. The same charm she’s used thousands of times before. Avoiding detention, getting her siblings to do her bidding, talking her way out of a ticket, the list goes on and on. But her all-time favorite has to be when she uses it on a pretty girl. It never ever fails. This is why she’s confused by the unamused look on Nico Jackson’s face.

“You gonna just stand there or you gonna help clean?” Back turned and completely monotone. This is not the way this went down in Rosario’s head. Frankly, she should’ve expected this by now. None of the other seven attempts at asking the ravenette out ended in success either. But it’s not in her DNA to back down from a challenge.

Like the time her sister told her to stop picking at her brain. So what did she do? Well, she went and got a psychology degree adding more weaponry to her imaginary arsenal. Getting Nico to fall in love with her would be no different.

“C’mon why ya gotta be so cold?” A faux pout on her lips. “You shouldn’t treat your future wife like that, ya know.”

“Why do you have to be so vexi”—Nico nearly gives herself whiplash with how fast she turns—“Future wife! The hell you get an idea like that”

“Manifestation dahling.”

“Well, I manifest you fall into a ditch and die on your way to work tomorrow.”

“Not how it works dahling.”

“Do you ever stop talking?”

“Well, if you just gave me your number. I did ask ever so nicely.” When most people receive a death glare like the one Nico’s giving right now they’d run as fast as they could. Instead, Rosario walks closer with a mischievous bounce in her step. She whispers close to her ear, “Or put those pretty lips on mine. I’d die a happy woman, swear.”

Nico grips Rosario tightly by the shoulder. With a venomous smile etched on her face, she reaches deep into her apron and pulls out a pen. Did she go too far? Is this how she dies? Pen to the neck by the hands of her work crush. She closes her eyes and braces herself for her own demise, but it never comes. Instead, she feels delicate yet quick writing on her neck.

“There you go dumbass. Now you can leave me the hell alone. And don’t call me for anything non-work-related!”

She stands there for a moment, confused. When she opens her eyes Nico’s already halfway out the door. She rubs at her neck curious to see what was written. When she looks at the mirror in the backroom she sees ten numbers. Not just any ten numbers. The ten numbers to Nico’s phone number. The grin on her face would put the Cheshire Cat out of business.

It hasn’t yet set in that she was just left with the rest of the cleaning duties. All she can focus on is the fact part one in her “foolproof” plan worked. And Nico Jackson is totally gonna fall in love with her.
