Legion of Bats!

Welp! Tee Franklin is working on another harlivy comic called Legion of Bats! which I believe takes place after S3. However, given how disappointed I was with her EBKT comics, I have little hope for this series. We’ll wait and see. Unfortunately the synopsis on league of comic geeks somewhat spoils S3 before it has yet to release. The 1st comic is set to release on October 18th and will be a 6 series comic like before. 

edit: For clarification, I am most definitely looking forward to S3 and think the artwork is cute in the comics. I just do not think the writing lives up to the standards of the show. Her writing seems rather immature. I think this comic might have been better received if it had been a stand alone comic not associated with the show. However, I am very disappointed with the fact that Tee has continued to write toxic traits into their relationship.

at what point did dick’s fatass become a meme, was there a specific issue that drew his ass huge that tipped the iceberg?

ok, I love that at least one person out there thinks that I am an authority on this topic.

no, there was not one issue that drew his ass so incredibly that it suddenly became iconic. over the years, Dick grew up from being a platonic boy hero to a sexual adult, then sex isol, then bearer of an (at times) voluptuous ass. this video has a good recap!

(sidebar—I need to make a correction to the video, which is a bit of misinformation I see floating around all the time, which is the idea that Devon Grayson did not admit or know that what she wrote in Nightwing #93 was sexual assault. she just didn't call it rape at the time, but said it was nonconsensual, and depicted it as sexually traumatizing for Dick. 2004)

ANYWAY,

I would say his fat ass became a meme recently. and. gonna be honest with you. except for a few depictions, it is not that big of an ass. he is way too skinny to have a truly fat ass. It's still nice! but let's not kid ourselves.

last year, the Harley Quinn tv show changed Dick's model to have a larger ass for an important plot point. which is how we got... the ass casket. cassket.

in Grayson #6, 2015, Midnighter recognized Dick by his ass.

ah, gay rights have come so far.

I won't get into the whole history of Dick Grayson being sexualized in general because that is a huge, huge topic. he's been sexualized since the NTT at least, and superheroes in general are a site of body image politic, bla bla. so I'm sticking to his butt in particular.

around this time, some DC writers and artists are purposefully trying to make Dick's ass prominent on the page. or at least Simone is. "I am writing it, of course there’s Nightwing ass!" Gail Simone, 2014, referring to Nighting/Oracle convergence. did the comic deliver on the ass? sadly no.

a little earlier, Nightwing (2011) #40, from 2013, has a some notable art. I've seen lots of people reference it as some kind of "female gaze" thing, which. I get what that's trying to say but you can't just invert the theory of the male gaze. sorry.

so I think it was the mid 2010s where this idea that he has a great ass starts to influence canon writers and artists, which reached a boiling point 2019 and 20s. now, artists had drawn Dick in a sexual manner before, and had drawn him with a gorgeous ass. I think it's both fan culture and some work of inspired artists that got us to this point of having a canon history of Nightwing Ass. its also important to note that in the later 2010's, the idealized body included a fat ass, which was really not the case in, say, the 90s.

if anyone has earlier issues or instances of Dick Grayson ass-centrism, please send it my way. I've only read like. a quarter of all of Dick Grayson's appearances lol.

His eyes close involuntarily, and he’s thrown back to that night three years ago. 

The press of Carlos’s mouth against his inner thigh makes TK moan, arm thrown over his eyes. “Jesus, Carlos, are you trying to kill me?”

Carlos kisses a path up TK’s chest, pressing a kiss to his neck, “Just the opposite, actually. I’ve never felt more alive, TK, maybe it’s time you get with the program.”

TK melts into the mattress, letting the arousal and heat crawling up his spine take over. 

They’ll discuss this in the morning. 

TK woke up to a cold mattress, an empty apartment, and a broken heart. 

Carlos never brought up that night, and TK never pushed. 

It was easier to have this part of Carlos, rather than none of him. That’s what he told himself every time he saw Carlos with another man.

The crowd screams uproariously, and Alex laughs, throwing his head back. Henry’s lost to the magic of it all, watching magnetically as he tracks every movement Alex makes. Alex folds down onto the edge of the stage gracefully, swinging his legs back and forth, “Okay, so as most of you know, it’s usually this part of the set that I usually sing a song or two from [EP name] but I’m doing something a little different tonight!” 

Right on cue, Liam hits the opening notes of a song on his guitar, and Spencer follows on his drums. It takes Henry, as well as everyone else, a moment, but quickly, the crowd starts screaming again.

Henry knows that no one, save for Bea, June, Nora and Pez know about the two of them, but Henry feels like he might as well skywrite the fact that they’re hooking up across LA.

And Henry’s thrown back to that time where the two of them, quite recklessly, blew each other in the backseat of his town car as Henry took Alex back to the airstrip to send him off to his next tour stop. He thought it was just sex to Alex, didn’t – couldn’t – dare hope it was anything more. 

But, Henry thinks faintly as he watches June and Nora swap looks across him, they’re well past casual now. Alex is basically screaming it at him.

- rugal died

- parents decided absolutely to get divorced, stepdad is...apparently getting medically assisted suicide because he can’t tolerate Being Disabled & he has no friends or family besides my mother

- phone partially broke and i can’t get internet there & am only intermittently getting texts, not getting calls at all 

- parents are unvaccinated on principle, won’t wear masks on principle, have been very generously, however, running errands all over chicago, comma, however, the 3rd largest metro area, comma, for me, since i am disabled & immunocompromised!

- unfortunately, as you probably already know

- per test i just took. They Gave Me Covid

- have been [indescribable] since the 28th

- have not checked emails or texts or anything since then 

- behind on 990385349058 deadlines, need to send 43985903485 Apology Tour emails

- ok

- obv posting from desktop since phone is on the fritz so if you rb this i will eat your liver with some fava beans and a big amarone

- can’t voice my true thoughts because gd will hear them & enact them on earth 

- all three of my parents seem to have been diagnosed with Problems Disorders of the personality and i was like. yes i am fully aware that nothing but the fully concentrated energies of a middle class OCPD person & a working class paranoid PD person & an also working class guy with clinically assessed narcissism who was also on the autism spectrum, all of whom were variously abused as kids in different ways, each in keeping with their socioeconomic + cultural + immigration backgrounds, produced. Me, a person recently described as “whenever i see that whoopi goldberg ‘i don’t want somebody in my house’ meme i think of you” & whose repeatedly diagnosed anxiety disorders go away the second i stop having to live with, work with, or be around other human beings, & who, at their age 6 neuropsych assessment, was flagged like those feral kids locked in closets because i spent the formative years of my life either 1) entirely alone, “entertaining myself” with my own imagination/personal language; 2) being socially ostracized as a weirdo; 3) being screamed at or punished or hit or threatened or taken to authority figures for “suspicious conduct”; 5) learning to Keep It (myself, my inner Seele; etc.) Secret & Keep It Safe, not be observed in order to not be corrected, not be punished, not be “caught doing what i’m not meant to be doing,” doing a task Wrong, doing it in the Wrong timeframe, being surveilled & monitored, leaning when i could be cleaning, keeping my space & my interests & everything else hidden because they were put in the trash & used to yell at me for not doing what i was supposed to & used to berate me for being stupid & useless & slovenly & disgusting! my dad was a compulsive liar because his mother was an evangelical christian who searched his room whenever he left the house & beat him bloody if she found anything she deemed sinful or even, frankly, indicative of Bad Character or Bad Personality. we had a limited and estranged relationship but i did, admittedly, lose it a little reading all those reports from his small-town illinois newspaper: from ages ~10 or 11-15 or 16 he routinely got physically assaulted so badly by his peers that he was taken to the ER and bystanders called the cops. like groups of preteen & teen boys hated him so much they’d just beat the shit out of him till he needed emergency intervention & someone deigned to intervene. he was huge, also, & although clumsy, could defend himself in a pinch against a single attacker, so it had to be like, a swarm. if i knew i was adopted and my parents hated me and my whole town hated me & i got beaten up about it every day of my life so bad it gave me brain damage i’d end up like my dad too! probably less arrogant, cannot imagine having such a high opinion of myself, or reflexively thinking so poorly of everyone else, or dismissing anyone i come into contact with as like, not...possessed of three-dimensional human subjectivity & a rich inner life, which ALL of my parents seem to have in common. it’s infuriating. their isolation makes them think everyone else is a brainwashed moron out to get them, with whom they couldn’t possibly have anything in common, even solidarity or sympathy. it’s a reactionary response to “you know, harriet, there are some very pleasant nazis” (without tone markers) attitude that many of their milquetoast liberal neighbors adopt but the aggressive cynicism of “our countrymen are morons, you can’t reason with Sheep [editorial note: you CAN actually reason with sheep, however, you shouldn’t keep them in pastures with slatted fences or they’ll get stuck. access needs. sheep are lovely & contrary to stereotype quite intelligent. they are also ungulates & behave like ungulates). my mom is freaked out by lying because dad leveraged his ability to lie against her. that was a Him Problem. i got cagey & avoidant & lied because she & stepdad did the same thing to me & would not permit me any privacy either, stepdad because he was paranoid, mom because she is a control freak. i finally got them to see a little bit of the connection, i think? like, again, a 7th grader is not abusing you by lying, you are in fact abusing them by going through their closet, throwing out all their carefully hidden shit, then cutting them off from the outside world because they accessed gay media against your explicit wishes and lied about it. that cagey defensive compulsive lying at such a young age about all aspects of one’s life and personal identity is defensive thing. in 5th-6th grade i was writing my diary not only in a coded alphabet but in a russian-english-hebrew conlang with klingon, vulcan, and celtic-language features, not from unjustified paranoia, but because i knew it would be read & i took prophylactic, offensive steps to make it indecipherable. i knew this because they read my sister’s diaries & went through HER drawers. even when they visited this time i kept my journals & the one (1) empty wine bottle in the house on me 24/7 because they think i’m teetotal & i know they’d go through all my things. anyway my mom is being a lot nicer to me now that she’s getting divorced, so
