Sibling Showdown!!!

This showdown consists of 64 sibling sets facing off against each other, as well as a few one-off polls of sets who didn’t make the actual bracket but who I wanted to include in some capacity. Polls will last a week. Round One of section A will go live on April 16, with section B going live the day after, section C the day after that, and section D the day after that.

Propaganda is allowed! I just ask that it be kept positive. Argue for your faves instead of against someone else’s. Every sibling set who made it in the showdown is there because someone wanted them to be, so keep it kind.

Will the winners be the siblings that love each other the most? That are most capable of killing other sibling groups with their bare hands? That have the most sibling swag? It’s up to you to decide! You get to choose the manner and parameters you judge each sibling set for.

Mugshot Monday - "Presidential Pets" coffee mug by The Unemployed Philosophers Guild with Morning Glory Signature Blend by Peace Coffee

Happy Presidents' Day to those who celebrate!

I have the day off so I'm lounging this afternoon drinking coffee in my Presidential Pets coffee mug.

It's a curated list of presidential pets who lived in the White House for 4 or 8 years depending if their owner survived re-election, or not.

When I think of presidential pets, the first one that comes to mind is "Socks", Bill and Hillary Clinton's cat. The second pet I think of is "Bo", Barack and Michelle Obama's rad dog.

I really don't know my presidential pets and I found some of the pets on the mug very interesting:

Calvin Coolidge had a racoon named Rebecca.

Thomas Jefferson had a mockingbird named Dick.

Theodore Roosevelt had guinea pigs named Admiral Dewey, Dr. Johnson, Bishop Doane, Fighting Bob Evans, and Father O'Grady.

After a plane crashes in Atlanta, Devon is overcome by guilt at the thought that he could have prevented the tragedy. Bell, who was a passenger on the plane, makes it his personal mission to save the life of the man seated next to him. Meanwhile, Adaku returns to ask Mina a big favor, the Raptor struggles with telling his adoptive parents about meeting his biological father and Conrad and Nic consider risking it all to investigate a drug that might be linked to Jessie's death.

In principle I agree with Devon about not sharing medical information with employers. But this man was a commercial pilot and literally has peoples lives in his hands. He should not be flying when drunk. Meanwhile, I loved meeting AJ's parents. They are so loving, kind, and supportive. I wonder what their impressions of Mina will be when they are inevitably introduced.

The Artful Dodger (with L) 1x01 The Yankee Dodge

With a huge gambling debt, coinciding with the return of Fagin, Dodger agrees to a final sting.

Wasn't sure what to expect but we rather enjoyed it. Thomas and Maia are very engaging leads. His sleeves and her skirts are ridiculously oversized. They're perfect for each other. Recognized most of the baddies too which was fun. I always forget Dewey Crowe is Australian!

Heartbreak High 2x03 The Feelings Pit

While some newfound feelings continue to haunt Malakai, Hartley High's school captain candidates get competitive at a fundraising event.

Malakai saying outloud that he is bi/queer was everything! I think the final push was the hotdog and taco stand lol. Why choose when you can have both. And it seemed he didn't write "Forget Amerie" so who did? Spider is clearly over her. And I thought Quinni picked up most of the confessions so exactly how many c**mlords are there? Ant seems a chill guy so the only other one we know is Chad Michael Murray, right? Unless it's somehow one of the girls?? Also:

Chandler Owen (April 5, 1889 - 1967) writer, editor, and founder of the radical journal The Messenger, with A. Philip Randolph was born in Warrenton, North Carolina. After graduating from Virginia Union University, he moved to New York City to become a fellow of the National Urban League and enrolled at Columbia University. He met A. Philip Randolph joined the Socialist Party of America and became a follower of the radical Black activist Hubert H. Harrison.

In 1917, he and Randolph founded the socialist journal The Messenger, which published political commentary, advocacy of trade unionism, and literature of the New Negro Movement. Noting the irony of African American participation in WWI, fighting to make the world safe for democracy abroad when Black people were denied equality at home, the Messenger argued, “Patriotism has no appeal to us; justice has. Party has no weight with us; principle has.” For their outspoken opposition to Black participation in the war, he and Randolph were arrested under the Espionage Act.

He moved to Chicago and became the managing editor of the Chicago Bee. He continued to support Randolph’s efforts to organize Black workers and continued to advocate for Black equality, he became disenchanted with socialism and joined the Republican Party. He wedded his editorial skills and an interest in politics. He became a speechwriter for local Republican candidates. He ran unsuccessfully in the Republican Primary for a seat in the House of Representatives in 1928. He was defeated by Oscar DePriest who became the first black Northerner elected to Congress.

He was the owner of a public relations firm, published Negroes and the War, a political tract designed to secure African American support for WWII by reminding Blacks of the freedoms they might lose if Nazi Germany should win the war. He continued to write speeches for prominent Republicans including Presidential candidates Wendell Wilkie in 1940, Thomas Dewey in 1944 and 1948, and Dwight Eisenhower in 1952. His Republican credentials notwithstanding, he occasionally wrote speeches for President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1964 and 1965. #africanhistory365 #africanexcellence
