My head engineer cosplay
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Materials I used/ things that can be helpful for your cosplay!
All of these prices are rounded up after shipping and tax (obvs this might change depending on where you live, etc.)
Flight suit/coveralls $70
Arm patches $40 (if it's sold out, it might restock soon. You can get smaller patches for berets/whatever as well. But if you contact the seller and it's sold out for good, you can look up custom patches and should be able to find a seller who can make it)
M2702 patch $7 (you have to customize it and it's not super accurate, but I think this works pretty well. I did #5 with black block lettering)
(If you want a more accurate patch I suggest finding one that's thinner and longer and has sharper corners)
Chica pin $12
Infinity cube pin $11
Gloves $23
Other items I already owned or made with stuff from the dollar store
~~~~~
Other helpful links!
Where to get some pins and patches seen in the show
hi! It's the stepnovember anon again, stopping by to say that your "doll loop" gif is really inspiring from a fashion standpoint? Would you be able to/mind sharing where you got that beautiful pink dress? I've been trying to expand my wardrobe as part of gender exploration and when I saw that dress it just "clicked" as something that would feel and look great to wear!
I definitely didn't wonder the same thing about the beautiful pearly lingère set from the Stepford gifs, either...too bad I've no way to make something that pretty look good on me yet or I'd ask about it too ;-;
thanks so so much for being you and creating content that speaks to queer trans girls like me! It's really liberating and affirming to know that I can enjoy the "hyper-femme" aesthetic of stepford and doll kink without invalidating the identity and sexuality I've discovered feels right for me.
-(•///w///•)
Heya! Thank you so much for the kind words! I'm all for exploring self and gender through clothing, it can be so freeing and fun to try things out and see what sticks.
This is the dress from that gif!
The pearly lingerie (which I have no doubt you could rock!) is a little harder to source, as it's a combination of a bustier I got from a lingerie enthusiast colleague, a garter belt I found at a vintage shop, and panties and stockings from Target. Vintage lingerie is trickier to find, but I love how it looks.
I had to relearn drawing and now I mostly work with markers and occasionally watercolors and acrylics. My style is mostly illustrative character art. My Pearl in the Deep cover was the last digital art I made.
Since Capcom is kind of ass at advertising outside of Japan, i wanted to highlight merch they're selling on their Amazon store page which is essentially their store:
My favorite one, this is for the AJ Trilogy release celebrating WOMEN which i feel is kinda rare for ace attorney merch unless it's just Maya.
Tumblr media
Next is for Ghost Trick Phantom Detective which comes out on June 30th with a demo available rn on all platforms, :D!
Tumblr media
Here's the direct link to the capcom page with them seperated by game that leads you to their Amazon pages. But you'll have to click Other for Ghost Trick. And there you'll find they have the same designs for short sleeve, long sleeve, hoodie, and sweater.
Note
(I'm the "soft cloth and polish" anon, sorry, I'm not on tumblr). I actually really like the contrast between the pink and black. Is "not too hard a contrast" a rule in lolita? I mean, both pink and black are perfectly acceptable colors. Also, I feel you on "Why, oh why didn't they just use the offside of the fabric?" Also, also: get well soon with the leg! Bone marrow edema sounds painful.
[Previous Ask]
There's technically anything wrong with pink and black in lolita fashion in strict, technical terms. It's not violating any rules or guidelines.
It's specifically about connotation.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When we ask Google to find us a pink and black lolita dress, here's what google thinks pink and black lolita is.
Tumblr media
If we look up other colors, you get a pretty okay representation of what lolita fashion could look like, but when you look specifically for pink and black, you find a different theme.
Tumblr media
You find a lot of costumes. Quick tip: any time you see a lolita dress modeled with a Hatsune Miku wig, that's a flag that someone thinks lolita fashion is a costume. This dress is too short to follow lolita proportions and it's also not coordinated as a lolita look.
Other things that you find in the "pink and black lolita dress" google search is dresses being sold by stores that also sell adult toys for ~various reasons~, a lot of maid cosplays, and plenty of things tagged "lolita cosplay."
And yes, if you search "black and white lolita dress" and "black lolita dress" you also get fascinating and/or terrifying, not-actually-lolita results. However, black and white lolita and all-black lolita are pretty common in mainstream lolita already. Black and pink also gets hit for ita town just because it is so uncommon.
Basically, people who know lolita tend to stay away from black and pink because they don't want to look ita, and people who want to jump onto lolita stylings without researching (for whatever reason they want to use lolita stylings, innocent or creppy) seem to think that it's a really good lolita color scheme. This drives the wedge deeper between pink and black as a color scheme and legitimate lolita.
I do also want to say that I do think that my coordinate with my pink Metamorphose ita dress is legitimate lolita. It's a dress that is difficult to coordinate, because it has such a high potential to read as if I'm someone who didn't research lolita and just bought a costume off amazon.com, but I do think it's capable of real lolita.
And thank you for the best wishes about the bone marrow edema. You wouldn't think that bones can be swollen but it turns out that, quite unfairly, they can be! The more you know, the brighter your stars shine, or something.
My second audiobook this year has been approved and is up on Audible! It took so much work to get this together. Juan Bravo, my narrator, was great to work with and I'm so proud of what we accomplished.
This book started at the crossroads of love letter to nerddom and irritation at rom com books leaning on Big Misunderstanding trope. I wanted to create characters that cared about things I care about: less about fashion and shoes, more about board games and cons. And then, I wanted the challenge of a modern book where the characters touched as much as a Jane Austen book. Not hard for a romance, right? 😅
Mel Abrams has a secret identity, like a superhero, but instead of fighting crimes, he's the lead singer to a comedic band. He rocks out with two of his best friends in front of sold-out crowds. He's been single for years after his first love broke his heart. But one night, during one concert at one crowded venue, he brushes fingers with a fan and feels one of those life-changing sparks. The problem is, he didn't see the fan's face. How is he supposed to find his spark's identity without revealing his?
Leah Koziol's marriage has hit rock bottom, and she's tumbling through an emotional free fall. Throwing herself into a familiar world of conventions and the bonds of geekery that her marriage had strained, Leah starts to find herself again. She has too much to deal with to think about what happened at that concert. So why can't she get it out of her head?
A romance written for those that are nerdy and like to go to conventions, this novel is a slow burn that speaks to those that have been broken but still hope.
Hi! Sorry to bother you, but I was wondering what kind of sandals those were that your cat was napping on in your bath post? My mum is struggling with plantar fasciitis right now and if they're something that helps I might recommend them to her!
My sandals have been an absolute godsend when it comes to walking. I work on my feet all day and if I don't walk around after work in these, I scream when my feet touch the floor. They even helped my feet after a 15hr flight. I was able to walk around the city after landing without wanting to cry, so my wife is awesome for finding them.
Here's the link:
I hope they help your mum as much as they've helped me.
PRIMITIVE COOKING: Learning to cook with a campfire, without man-made utensils, can be one of the most relaxing and rewarding experiences. Whether you're camping or in an actual emergency situation, common primitive cooking methods are skills worth knowing. The first skills necessary, however, are knowing how to start and build a fire. Then choose the primitive cooking method appropriate for the situation, available resources and weather.
Ash Cooking: Gather the food and large, live, non-poisonous plant leaves (preferably edible with stems or vines still attached). Slowly let the fire die while flattening the hot coals (but not burning with flames). Wrap the food in the leaves, using the stem/vine to hold it together. Place the food onto the coals. Use a stick to move some hot coals over top of the food so it can cook on both sides.
Broiling: Unless a pan is available, make something that can hold the food over the fire without it falling in. Strong, live, non-poisonous branches fashioned into a basket-weave pattern may do. Then lay the food on the boiler to cook. Flip the food as needed to cook thoroughly.
Hot Stone Cooking: Use a flat surface rock no less that one inch thick. Make sure the rock is clean but dry. Heat the rock on coals or over the fire until hot to touch. Place the food on the rock to cook.
Plank Cooking: Best woods for making planks are poplar, cedar, and oak; not conifers (pines). Cut into planks or rounds large enough for your food and cook similar to Hot Stone Cooking.
Steam Pit Cooking: Wrap food in large leaves, as when ash cooking. Dig a pit in the ground a foot to two feet deep. Line the bottom of it with hot coals. Place the food on top of the coals and then cover it with the earth you dug up. Allow it to sit for at least a couple of hours (even small food will take a while to cook this way). Then dig it up, and dig in!
Spit Cooking: Like a whole chicken spinning slowly on a rotisserie, that's spit cooking. Bury two "Y"-shaped (the top of a K is a better shape for pounding into the ground) branches, one on each side near the fire. Another straight, non-poisonous, hard-wood branch will pass through the food and hang on the two "Y"-shaped branches. Secure the food with non-poisonous vines or twine so it doesn't fall off as it cooks and turns. Turn the food occasionally to cook completely.
Clay Cooking: Wrap food in large leaves, as when ash cooking. Dig far enough into the ground and you'll, usually, find clay. Make sure that the area you dig wasn't once the place of toxic chemicals. Pack the clay around the food, in an even layer, to promote even cooking. Lay the clay-covered package over hot coals and allow it to cook. The time of cooking will depend on not only the size of the food being cooked, but also the thickness of the clay.
Shovel Skillet: Most backpackers and bug-out-bags will carry a small, foldable shovel to dig a latrine, fire pit or cover fire coals to put out a fire. A Not-So-Primitive cooking method is using a shovel as a skillet when no pots, pans or griddle are available. The metal shovel is excellent for cooking meats, veggies and breads. The [usual] long handle, makes it convenient to maneuver the food in and around the fire for different temperatures.
Makeshift Cooking Tools help with the cooking process. A Rake or Pitchfork can be used as skewers for roasting meats. A metal fork can be repurposed into a pan handle by poking holes in a metallic can in line with the fork tines, inserting the tines into the holes then bending the tines in an alternating pattern. This provides a safe, sturdy handle to move the can of food in and around the fire.
I recently bought a (very good) book titled How to Read Donald Duck: A Guide to Understanding Comic Books.
A sample:
"You cannot write for Donald Duck and expect to understand him. Donald is a fictional character written by cartoonist Ub Iwerks, and is, by all accounts, a very silly fellow. He is a man who enjoys watching other men do foolish things such as fall off cliffs, get lost in the sand, get locked inside closets, and suffer painful injuries. Donald Duck has an ex-wife (she divorced him for his money, though), a son (who inherited his ex-wife's ex-husband's money, though), a cat (he is fond of cats), and a dog (also a very silly fellow).
Donald Duck wears ridiculous clothes. He wears them not because they are fashionable, but because they are very silly, and that makes him feel better than if he wore the clothes of a rational being. The clothes he wears, however, are not entirely silly; when he wears them, they are not just silly, but often useful, especially for navigating in the world. That is to say that when Donald Duck is dressed well, there is usually a way in which his clothing can be applied to situations (though often it cannot).
When Donald Duck is dressed badly, it is not simply that there is no way in which he could apply his silly clothing to a situation; in fact, his clothing is often used against him. Donald is a very stupid, very silly, and rather poor fellow. In the world of Donald Duck, you cannot take advantage of the benefits of foolishness unless you are foolish enough to be willing to take the associated risks. Donald is an old man (though not, as we shall see, as old as he looks), and he has many comically large hats. However, even if Donald Duck is young, he wears these hats with such gusto that this makes him even sillier.
When Donald Duck is old, he is not a poor, foolish old fellow. He is a successful, wealthy, and wise old fellow who is very silly. Many things in the world of Donald Duck become possible if one has enough money, and Donald Duck often has a lot of money. And he has money in other forms. For example, Donald Duck, as we have seen, has a son, who inherited his father's wealth. Donald Duck, however, inherited this son's wealth, not his own. In the world of Donald Duck, many things are possible, but not for every character. For Donald Duck, wealth is not just a measure of intelligence, but also a means of protection. For instance, Donald Duck is often poor and not stupid, and yet he is a silly man. He may not be smart, but he doesn't have to be. He may not be wise, but he doesn't have to be. In the world of Donald Duck, Donald Duck has a lot of money, but he does not have to be silly to be wealthy.
When Donald Duck gets older, he becomes increasingly wise. His silly clothing becomes less silly, while he finds increasingly interesting ways to keep himself silly (which is to say, he discovers increasingly complicated ways to use his silly clothes, in all situations). Donald Duck is a very smart man, and we see this reflected in the various ways in which the comic books in question are extremely good at capturing the essence of one Donald Duck as he approaches old age."
I'm in love with it, and I love the author so far. Who is this man?
The book's Amazon.com blurb introduces the author, so it's not just the publisher's PR department
This seems like it would be a very good book to have on the bookshelf, but somehow I've never encountered it until now.
(It is, in fact, totally free.)
Trans truths #5
It’s often the clothes that count most for validation and passing.
This tip, though primarily a clothing, touches on many other subjects. Feel free to send an ask if you’d like more information on something. I do intend to circle back around with some other posts addressing the other stuff. The idea with these posts is to give you info in small bites.
So— A major thing that comes along with starting T is… sweat. Your face, your back, and anywhere skin touches skin (or when skin touches a medical device, such as a feeding tube, insulin patch, prosthetic silicone sleeve, etc.).
When purchasing a new wardrobe, focusing on light fabrics, wick-away materials, and affordable quality goods is the way to go.
Here are my shopping secrets:
Cotton t-shirts—you will need a ton of them, even if your closet is already stocked. Changing shirts multiple times a day is not only ok, but also beneficial to keeping your body bacteria/acne free. I know I’m a little high-brow when it comes to labels, but I put my trust in Abercrombie and it’s brother-brand Hollister. Quality is great, most basic T-shirts are 100% cotton, and there are numerous basic fits (crew, v-neck, henley…) to suit your preferences. The basics frequently appear in the clearance section at about half price from the new collection, so they’re often surprisingly affordable. You can order up to 10 of the same item at a time, so if you find your wonder-fit, you can stock up.
Shorts and sweats— I recommend wearing shorts as often as possible. If they’re not your thing, consider at least wearing them at home for the sake of comfort. Old Navy’s Breathe On collection is my go-to for shorts and athletic pants. The athletic pants fall like Addidas new material trousers (the ones with the side stripes). The shorts are a 9” inseam (I think, based on how they fall on me), set with an elastic waist with a drawstring, and made of the softest blend of new materials I have ever felt in my life. Seriously, their quality rivals LuluLemon and other high end brands. Not only is the fabric soft as a cloud, but it’s incredibly thin, and still extremely opaque. A couple caveats: These are definitely athletic style. The price and color availability varies wildly depending on the season (up to $30 regular price and as low as under $10 when on sale). Be careful to purchase from the adult men’s section; the children’s section also has Breathe On items, but they are extremely poor quality. No idea why.
Hoodies— The best I’ve found is the Alternative Eco Zip Lightweight Hoodie, which is available on Amazon at this link: Alternative Men's Eco Zip Lightweight Hoodie https://a.co/d/dUCmpwt . They vary in price from $40 to under $20, depending on the size and color availability, but these hoodies are absolute life savers. They’re a cotton and new material blend that is both super soft and very thin, making them a go-to for fall and spring weather. They’re so light and comfy that they can be worn in hot weather too, for buildings with extreme air conditioning and situations with a lot of sunlight exposure (they’re not UPF, but opaque enough to keep you covered).
Socks— I’m a stickler about quality and fit, so I turn to Bombas for all my sock needs. They are a bit pricey and rarely on sale, but they’re also very charitable— one pair bought is one pair donated to folks lacking clothing resources. They have about a million styles and fits, but the athletic styles (running, golfing, sports, etc.) are quite thin and sweat-absorbing, regardless of the material blend. Bombas socks do live up to their reputation as the “perfect sock.” They don’t slip down your foot with wear, the arch support is amazing, and they last forever (seriously, I’ve have a few pairs I bought six years ago that are still in circulation.).
Underwear— As all the internet buzz claims, MeUndies does make quality and fun products. Now, you do have to start a subscription in order to make them affordable, but once you’ve been on for ~ 7 months, you’ll have plenty ( just mind how long you compile laundry and you’ll be fine). The undies are super soft (new material blend), and the color and pattern choices are extremely amusing. If this is the first time you’re wearing men’s underwear, I recommend going with briefs (boxers are a little tough to wrangle with jeans and such, and boxer briefs can lead to an unfortunate cameltoe if you’re not wearing something underneath (however, if you have incontinence issues or use a catheter, the boxer briefs are great for holding everything in place). Additionally, briefs with an open fly make packing more comfortable (definitely more on that in a different tip post).
Pajamas— I highly recommend 100% cotton poplin pajama pants and shorts. The Gap makes great quality products, and they’re frequently on sale due to seasonal releases. For shorts, browse the men’s boxer section (just to be clear, I recommend wearing these as pajama bottoms, not actually as underwear.) They refresh the prints regularly, so more often than not, you can find some in the clearance section. The pants fall loosely with a straight leg cut, so no need to worry about curves (especially if you just wear them at home). They also have an elastic waist and a drawstring. The boxers also have an elastic waist. The one downside is that the pants and shorts can get super wrinkly in the wash, so you may want to fluff them after they’ve been in the washer and before they go in the dryer.
If there are any more clothing tips you’d like, feel free to drop an ask.
