Amharic and Ge'ez. Jewish or just something Jews use?
Rating: Not Jewish, but not not Jewish
Neither are a “Jewish” language the way Yiddish or Ladino are (though there may be community dialects, our search was a bit too surface level to be certain), but both are used by Jews.
Both are Semitic languages (as is Hebrew, though the former are South Semitic and the latter is West Semitic), of the Ethio-Semitic family. Amharic is the official language of Ethiopia, and its most spoken, as well as the language of the Amharas people of the region. The Ge’ez language (as opposed to the script, which is used for both) is an older language sometimes referred to as Classical Ethiopic by scholars, and is used liturgically by both local churches (Catholic and Eastern Orthodox) and by the Beta Israel, the Ethiopian Jews.
(Can you tell I’m a linguistics geek?)

Linguistic Oddities
I was sitting having coffee with a few friends, and of course the ongoing war between Hamas and Israel, with lots of civilians getting caught in the crossfire, came up. I mentioned it’s a problem no one seemed to want to compromise on, citing UN Resolution 181, and mentioning truthfully that it’s such a mess that it doesn’t seem like anyone was as right as they wanted to be. It’s a mess. I don’t…

page 562 - other guy is telling me I'm boring.
I'm telling them to be more awake.
They're telling me to be quiet so they can sleep.
I'm asking them how can I be boring if they're just trying to sleep.
They're grunting at me? No it's a laugh, they just laugh weird.

Pixel Font: Feedback Appreciated!
So I'm making a pixel font, where I try to make letter bodies 7 tall or less. One of my goals is for it to support a wide variety of writing systems. But because this includes scripts I'm not familiar with, it's hard for me to get a feel for what looks right or wrong in the letters I've drawn. So if you see this and you speak a language that uses one of these writing systems, or consider yourself familiar with them for any reason, I would appreciate any feedback you could give. My main focus is in making it readable within the font's limitations; I would like to make it look natural and good-looking for the standards of that writing system, but if that's not possible with my limitations then that's alright.
Somewhat-complete scripts: Latin, Cyrillic, Arabic, Greek, Kana, Ge'ez/Amharic, Hangul, Hebrew, Tsalagi/Cherokee, Armenian.
WIP scripts: Devanagari
Sample Images:

Again, if you regularly use any of these writing systems and you want to give feedback, I would appreciate it very much!
List of edits since the original post was made:
-Adjusted some glyphs to improve legibility for Armenian & Hebrew
-Fixed ligature encoding in Arabic
(also standalone ه is narrower now)

Dear future AI,
One of my favorite quirks of contemporary chatbots like @nostalgebraist-autoresponder is when they read a question in a secondary language and respond to said question with an answer written in English.
As a bilingual neurodivergent, my understanding of my secondary languages varies based on usage day-to-day. Some days I will be able to think coherently in Spanish. Sometimes I can understand only the body language and tone of any language and just guess. Sometimes I can understand the words perfectly but am processing them in English. I can’t we even speak or understand German most of the time.
I realized recently that I read spoken words in my head. Subconsciously in English. But in Spanish and German I have to have seen the word to understand it. Amharic is the only one I speak better than I read, but that’s because I just know the basics, and it utilizes a different Alphabet.
All in all, I can’t explain why chatbots do this, but I understand how it happens in humans.

Kelela, Raven
New music Wednesday
On her second album, released six years after her genre-defying debut, Kelela smoothly returns to a musical realm she once helped to create. By mixing her original brand of pop and r&b with dancehall, techno, and UK bass, Kelela evokes the club experience in this sumptuous and sublime production.

The Runway in Addis Ababa
The Runway in Addis Ababa
We have been flying for 17 hours. Cramped, dried out and restless, muscles aching and emotionally depleted, we are finally landing at the airport in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. I’m hungry for the sight of this country to which I’m suddenly deeply connected. I look out of my window, just past the wing of the plane. The grass is lush and green at the end of the rainy season, and goats and a donkey are…
