back to thinking about that worst timeline princess AU concept where luz and hunter end up with camila in the human realm when camila hasn't met vee and doesn't know about the isles. & so camila thinks that the two of them have just been held captive together for years.
i'm mainly thinking about my 100% certainty that luz would develop a Crippling case of agoraphobia for..... very obvious reasons. double-checked the definition just now because i was like "i'm pretty sure it's no longer referred to as a fear of being outside??" and yeah -- it's a fear of being in environments where you'll be helpless or unable to escape if something goes wrong. which. well. you guys know what she's gone thru.
that combined with the general confusion and sensory overload of the human world.... i think luz would get Very Very Very Upset if she was forced to leave the house. and going anywhere without hunter especially is a non-starter. like one of u guys said a few days ago, the sheer LEVELS that her separation anxiety would ratchet up to.... she's basically following him to the bathroom whenever he gets up and sitting outside the door like a lonely cat. i don't even want to CONSIDER the kind of breakdown she'd have if she was made to go out with camila to, like, a completely normal therapy appointment.

Hunter's Possession Scenes and the Theme of Enmeshment
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The usual warnings: explorations of trauma and abuse ahead.
Enmeshment happens when there is the lack of boundaries and lack of defined roles in a family system, and the party with more power, usually the parents/caregivers, prevents a child from becoming their own person independent of the family (this is called individuation or differentiation). Enmeshment leads to a low level of individuation/differentiation because the kid will suffer negative consequences if they try to do so. Which sucks, because we need to become our own person in order to truly love and be loved.
Tumblr media
Belos requires Hunter to follow a strict script
Tumblr media
and only operate within the confines of the role of Caleb (more accurately, how Philip wants Caleb to be...so, not the real Caleb, though Belos has told himself that's the true version of his brother).
Tumblr media
Amity went through similar with Odalia and has been in the process of breaking out of it too. I notice Luz and Willow also get a bit close to experiencing it with their parents: Camila initially getting Luz to conform, Willow's dads initially not allowing her to be on the Plant Magic track. But I need to make the important distinction where I think Belos and Odalia (with Alador enabling Odalia's behaviour while also being abused by her) really crossed the line, because they don't even allow the kids under their care to express their thoughts. They flat out dismiss whatever isn't fitting into their agendas, whereas I can trust that Camila, Gilbert and Harvey, who wound up remorseful about their actions and changing, at least allow their kids to voice their opinions safely and they are the kind of caregiver that'll at least say e.g. "I understand that you want X, but ______".
In enmeshment, the toxic parental figure does not know (or refuses to know) the boundary line where their own being ends and the being of their kid begins: this can lead to issues such as a parentified kid who has to manage the parents' emotions for them. Very sadly, this can also be why when these kids are well into adulthood, they are still terrified of their parents and regress into the same child-like responses they had as kids in their toxic parents' presence.
In the show, I think the two visual concepts that most strongly convey the concept of enmeshment vs. trying to break away from it, are Hunter seeing Belos in the mirror and Belos taking control of his physical body:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Parental figures who are enmeshed with their child feel that their kid is them, has to be them, with the same desires, feelings, beliefs, perspectives...not a separate person. If not, the parental figure's own sense of security feels threatened. So if the child tries to create needed space or establish that boundary line by putting up resistance in any form, you get a tantrum/begging/manipulation/other toxic response from the parent (example: Hunter mentions wild magic in front of Belos and is physically threatened), which then aggravates the child's anxiety and wears down their mental health.
The parental figure takes up more space than they should have in the dynamic, while the kid is boxed in more and more. Obviously such treatment is hazardous and puts an awful strain on the person in the relationship who has less power.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Which brings us to Belos getting desperate enough to possess Hunter.
Tumblr media
A.k.a. peak enmeshment, as Belos did not have any proper grip on his 'nephew' anymore, and turned things up to the max to exert control by literally inhabiting his physical being, giving him no choice but to do his bidding in the most forceful way possible:
Tumblr media
Put simply, you aren't you when in the midst of enmeshment. The worse the enmeshment, the more imposing the control of the toxic parent/caregiver. And wow when I first saw this scene unfold before my eyes, I immediately thought of how powerfully this concept was being visually communicated via fiction. So unnerving. The crew and of course Zeno Robinson have been so good at bringing his enmeshment-related behaviour to life onscreen. E.g. the contrast below...Hunter cracking under the terror in the first few days of truly breaking out of enmeshment in the left-side frame below, versus the right-side showing his post-possession (very literally translated as post-enmeshment) grief which was so painful that simmering, volatile anger rose up in him to keep the pain at bay:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This gentle, kind-hearted kid never wanted this. The worst thing about going through that and resisting it by running away from the coven and the Isles, was that it culminated into losing his best friend.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
His way out of the loneliness and isolation of enmeshment was finding his tribe and leaning into it for support and healthy closeness. There couldn't be stronger symbolism for the tension in Hunter's whole arc, between isolation (the abuse he suffered) vs. feeling like part of a family (a healthy "tribe") than this:
Tumblr media
Wolves. Loving, nurturing pack animals. Who "make great parents". Yet we have the phrase "lone wolf" since wolves do occasionally navigate part of life on their own. Hunter is drawn to wolves because it strikes him right away, he sees himself (more accurately, the deepest desire of where he'd love to be) in the way such creatures usually live.
And the bonds in his pack became mighty. Hunter succeeded at building trust with the Hexsquad, getting nearer and nearer to the core of himself - while Belos didn't have a single trusting relationship with anyone and sunk lower and lower, getting further and further from himself as his self-deception only got worse. Hunter built up what can be referred to as "emotional equity" in his relationships, and he's so inspirational especially in the uncertain, risky early stages of doing this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's like repeatedly depositing into a bank account (both sides in a relationship need to do this, in a manner that both can agree on as fair) and building up the amount in said account with positive experiences and investing effort and time into the relationship. Various difficulties and conflicts that come along will take small or big chunks out of that bank balance. More serious incidents will obviously threaten to break the relationship apart and empty the account or send the balance into the negative. The bond between Hunter and his friends was strong enough to withstand the eventual traumatic loss that they all suffered:
Tumblr media
In fact, he was already putting up a quiet resistance in Belos's absence (I'm relieved Belos didn't require that he be escorted on every single mission or be surveilled all the time in his own room, which would've granted him no privacy to express such thoughts), shortly after we saw him get unmasked:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Unfortunately, wrenching yourself free from the violating nature of enmeshment comes at a physical and emotional cost. It can no doubt be a long journey, an injurious experience, damaging one's sense of discernment of who to trust. It doesn't magically become bright and easy post-enmeshment because grief, confusion, emptiness etc are still present, just in different forms. Hopefully it is the intensity of all that which is reduced and well-managed.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The hope is that Hunter does not feel any impulse to want to over-isolate and hurt himself with concerning self-deprecating thoughts and engage in concerning behaviour (which could be a parallel to how he wanted to dig his own grave in Eclipse Lake), especially as he is still processing the moral injury of harming Flapjack and threatening the others while possessed.

Seeing Eda acting like some kind of responsible adult is wild. Though not completely out of character. She has been taking her role as a mother more seriously as of late… and both of the kids under her wing (pun unintended, but hilarious nonetheless) have gone through a lot, Luz especially. Telling them that they need to find someplace to hide while the adults take care of the dangers is reasonable enough.
You know, one of the  reasons a lot of young protagonists have dead parents or abusive/neglectful parents/guardians is because most parents would try to stop their kids from going on dangerous adventures. This has been brought up in the show in the form of Camila. Luz fearing that if Camila ever found out about the Demon Realm, she wouldn’t let Luz go back there has been a thing ever since season one.
Contrast with Eda, who’s allowed Luz to go along on these dangerous, but exciting adventures… until now. I can see why Luz might not agree with Eda’s decision on this* but at the same time, I fully understand where Eda is coming from.
(*i can kinda see this leading to a moment where Luz is like ”You can’t tell me what to do, you’re not my mom,” or something like that and oof, that’d hurt Eda on a deep level)
Tumblr media
This image right here? Good shit.
Let’s break down this plan. Lilith suggests sending the kids off to the island to find out about King’s family and possibly gather powerful allies. That’s good. She suggests sending Hooty with them as protection. Which is not a great idea. The island is far away from the main body of the Titan, far away from Belos and danger, which is good. Unless there is danger on the island, which would be bad.
Luz suggests they can go there with the crew of the ship she journeyed with to slay the Selkidomus. Which is a god idea, they all liked Luz.
As the kids leave the room, Lilith says that she has already explored that area and that there is nothing there, dismissing the letter as some kind of prank. She does so with one of the best puns in the history of this show. A wild Luz chase. Brilliant, Lulu, brilliant.
…then again, she said that the island with King’s tower shouldn’t have been there either, soooo… and that rock thing he got in the letter is clearly some kind of key, soooooo…
Tumblr media
Aw man… everyone’s sad today, huh?
This is what I was talking about before. Luz and King being children really shouldn’t have to deal with all of this and Eda, who has realized how big this all is, is terrified of them getting hurt. On top of that, she feels a bit guilty for getting Luz involved in this. If only… if only she hadn’t left the portal open that one day, if only she had sent Luz home right away instead of involving her in the Confomratorium break-in, if only, if only. That kinda thinking isn’t going to do much to help in the now, but it is understandable that she feels this way.
Oh, and Lilith? i admire your optimism, but one(1) week to come up with a plan to overthrow a tyrant who controls the entire military and everyone with magical powers is… not a lot. Especially when all you have to work with are two(2) middle-aged witches who can’t use magic (though one has a cool harpy form) and maybe like… Gwendolyn is pretty strong I guess? Dunno about Dell, he seems pretty frail. What other adults might be on their side… There’s Raine, Darius and Eberwolf, but they’re doing their own thing. Alador, maybe (I’m still holding out hope he has some override to turn all the Abomatons against the Emperor). Maybe Gus & Willow’s parents. The Bat Queen, possibly (her leading an army of palismen against Belos might be kinda cool actually).
Tumblr media
Yarr me mateys, Luz is back to being a pirate! Call her Monkey D. Luzzy.
(i’ve been sitting here for like five minutes giggling at my own pun. who gave me the right to be so funny?)
The captain of the ship, Salty, says that his mateys had to leave the ship after they no longer worked for the Golden Guard. Like Eda said back in Separate Tides, the Emperor’s ships are the only ones worth robbing. So i guess even Salty the sea captain doesn’t get to be happy in this episode.
Hooty mentions that large rock formation on the island kinda looks like a finger, which I briefly considered saying before when I saw the drawing, but didn’t. I also thought it looked a little like one of King’s horns, although the shape is different. Upon closer look, it does looks more like a finger.
Looking at one of the few shots we get of the Titan’s whole body I notice that we don’t get to see the Titan’s left arm or hand. So that part of its body might be submerged and this is one of its fingers sticking out of the water. Unless… there was a mention once of there being remains of other massive creatures on the boiling sea, but only partial ones. This could be one of those as well. The finger bone of some other massive, long-dead creature. Another Titan? Or something else?
Tumblr media
And tonight on ”If The Lampman had waited just a few more seconds…” Salty confirms that this is not part of the Titan. He says it’s ”a different bestie.” Which kinda makes it sound like it’s a completely different creature, unrelated to the Titan… though I think it might still be another Titan.

absolutely self-indulgent owl language breakdown from my owl house daemon au bc i was having fun with it today:
so we have 'wings-across-night' which is what the owl beast/firefly calls herself in her own language. the sounds of this name are spelled out as 'grr-click-growl', which, bc i have a sounds-to-general-meaning dictionary, is this idea of like...
the 'grr' and 'growl' are these lasting sounds, longer, and somewhat low and dangerous, which get across the 'wings' and 'night' idea that posit firefly as a hunter, who hunts best in the night. then we have the 'click' for across which is sort of a joining-together, and all-together it comes across as this long rumbling sound, ie of an owl in flight across the sky.
and then we get to FIREFLY, which, man it took me a WHILE to get to firefly as the translated witch-language/english version of wings-across-night. its this idea that...wings-across-night is a hunter of the night, she is someone who is found and associated with darkness, but it ALSO has an implication of being seen: she flies across the night, and is thus illuminated by it.
and so FIREFLY. as these creatures who glow in the dark, who live there and make it their own with something bright inside of them and its just so FUN.
and we get!! other names too! like 'king' being 'puffs out chest' because it comes from that sorta arrogance of his youth, being an itty-bitty baby who saw himself as the king of demons, but then later on its also this idea of like, how one might puff up as a sort of way of saying im HERE, not in an arrogant way but in a claiming this place as their own sort of way, which king does: he might be a titan but hes also a CLAWTHORNE.
'one that hoards' is what 'the collector' translates to in owl, but firefly doesnt call him this for long...bc the thing she notices about them is how SCARED they can get, how hesitant they are, bc theyve had so much taken from them and theyre protective of what they do have, yes in a way that can be harmful (look at their relationship w king lol) but also like...reaches out scared...and so we get this translating to 'sraf' in witch-language because that's what it is all about, in the end: the collector who has reached, terrified, for this thing he was told to avoid, and made it his own, and made himself sraf.
sea-and-light for luzmari is one of the first owl-names i came up with and one im still so fond of...they're called sea-and (mari) or and-light (luz) separately but no matter what we get the AND in there, tying them together as a pair despite all else. 'light' is straightforward for luz but 'sea' is a bit less for mari, but it connects for both of them similar things--light being the glyph luz finds first, ice being the one mari did, but mari not being so cold despite it all, but a thing ice melts into. (also when i was picking names i saw that 'maritza' means something relating to the sea, tho this was Years ago n i dont know how true that is lol since i dont have the source anymore). mari being first because she has chosen to be first, flipping the human-first script on its tail, bc firefly is an owl, and why would she follow convention?
im still poking around at my names for hunter and amity...last night i came up with something like berrysharp or berry-click or berry-(click) for amity and alma--i know they get a name together because they are almost always holding on to one another, and 'berry' for this sort of idea of both the purple but also like, berries can be bitter, sweet, something inbetween, and amityalma have been A Lot Of Things. and then the sharpness being the idea of like, throughout the fic amity is sort of the first character to just be HERSELF, especially when compared to luzmari who spend nearly the entire series really struggling with this...dunno this one im still turning over lol. the 'click' part of things is just bc 'click' tends to mean like, combining two things, which seems fitting for a name that is amity and alma together.
i have Nothing yet for hunter. some ideas. ive been toying with hunter and flapjack's name being something, and then somethings shadow--ie whatever name one of them gets, the other gets the same name with shadow tacked on, which fits their Vibes, plus when firefly meets them, which is post-hollow mind when things are Bad. prooooobably it would go flapjack and then hunter is flapjack's shadow, which i think is fun...but we'll see i still need a NAME. something to do with palistrom trees?
dunno. just...owl language <3

Fabi. I need your thoughts on the season finale.
Hi Glitter!! sorry it took me 3 days to answer this... i had a hard time thinking about an answer, to be honest. i am still processing the whole "Luz and her friends got stuck in the human realm while Eda, Raine, King and everyone else is stuck in the Boiling Isles but it's uncertain what's been done to that realm so they might as well all be dead" thing . LOL. (had to cut it because i have many thoughts on the finale)
not so fun fact: i saw a spoiler on the day the finale came out that said Raine had died. it made me anxious to watch it. then i watched the episode, and i don't get it, because i don't think they'll die... if they do, so do all the other coven heads, right? i got so emotional about raeda... the way Raine literally took Eda's damaged hand to protect her because Luz asked them to, but also obviously because they still love her so much. Eda kissing Hooty's little head was so cute, and her and Lilith hugging, too. i love the way this family has grown so much since the beginning of the show!
the little fight sequence between the coven leaders was so awesome, too... one thing i really love about toh season 2 is how there's always a well animated, badass fight scene in every episode.
also, did Belos really die? when the collector exploded him (i do not have a better way to describe it. ahhh curse my limited english vocabulary!), i kept waiting for Belos to come back in his "gooey palisman beast form" -that's what i'm calling it. and the shot of the green mud (Belos mud ew ew that's literally a dead guy) dripping onto Hunter's shoulder made me veeery suspicious. like maybe that was intentional, you know?
oh!! one thing i really liked about the episode was seeing the collector -or, as we Brazilian fans call them, Enzo Gabriel. he actually terrifies me, despite me thinking his character design is adorable and creative... it's because of the way they act all childish (and i do believe they truly are like that, maybe a child of another powerful being beyond my human comprehension O.o) but can cause so much damage and change so many things. like, they are so little but they can literally move the sky and the land and stop an eclipse from happening with only their little fingers. they can kill a beast with the snap of their fingers, as well. and if that's not scary, i don't know what is. knowing that Eda, King and Raine are in his hands makes me worried. i don't think he has bad intentions at all (he's just a silly little guy who wants to play owl house) but they might do something horrible without knowing it.
"Luz, I'm so happy I had you as a big sister" ?!?!??!?!!?!?!?!?! that killed me ... .... I love King and Luz as siblings. they are family. it's not fair that they got separated under these circumstances!!!! and now i gotta wait, what, 10 more months to see them again?? not fair. also, that was not the way i wanted Gus to see human rain for the first time. it's still hard to believe that they're going to just stay at Luz's house, and that Vee is there as well. i would want to see the witches, Vee and Hunter adapting to the human realm and bonding with Camila and Luz :((( but we're not getting more seasons. that's unfair.
and fuck disney!

You know something is wrong when you have 4 crossover aus between the owl house and hetalia...
so I made them into one au called the Emperor's Elite AU... which I moved of from a while ago but still want to share.
Warning for incest, sexual abuse, drug abuse, Belos being sent to a gulag and maybe other things that I forgot
So, the premise of this AU is that Belos rules alongside a council of advisors who all happen to be hetalia characters. There is much more than that however, and I think it’s best to start from the chronological beginning here.
Everything begins some time around the 12th century, when hetalia Russia was looking for friends. He comes across a witch from the Boiling Isles named Baba Yaga. I don't really know too much about her however she was a mentor type figure to Russia like Eda is to Luz.
Did I say came across? I meant kidnapped. Baba Yaga kidnapped Russia for the sake of some kind of ritual and was surprised to find out that he was still alive. She used Eclipse Lake to move between worlds and most humans who go through that type of rift die before they reach the other side.
Russia became attached over night due to her being one of the first people to not attack him or misunderstand his troubles. She decided to keep him as her apprentice and teach him magic.
Hetalia Ukraine gets worried when her brother doesn't come home and decides to search for him (yes, I know. This takes place 800 years ago so current events have nothing to do with this). She leaves her sister, hetalia Belarus, behind, expecting to find him and come back that day but instead she is found by a group of witches who have been using human corpses in rituals. They kidnap Ukraine and are surprised to see that she is still alive but decide to sacrifice her anyways. She was terrified and the only reason she survived, outside of her immortality, was because a cave in occurred when the ritual was being cast. She had to claw her way out of the rubble and was completely traumatized by the event. Ukraine came to the conclusion that witches were dangerous but not in the way Belos did, she only wanted to separate the demon realm and human realm from each other permanently as she encountered witches who weren't evil while she tried to find a way home.
She became known as the boogeyman of the Boiling Isles, attacking witches over the next few centuries with the intent of stopping travel between worlds. Ukraine was quite brutal in her quest, she is also a big reason for why Titans Blood is so rare, because she destroyed it all.
Now back in the Human Realm, Philip finds a little boy alone in the woods. He brings this boy back to his older brother, Caleb, who tries to fund the boy's parents but no one comes up to claim him. Due to this, Caleb adopts the boy despite the Wittebane's bad financial situation and names him Alfred.
Alfred stays with the Wittebanes for several months until two men come to the town, both are Scandinavian explorers who seem oddly interested in Alfred and return to Europe soon after. A month later and two other men show up both claiming to be Alfred's brother but they aren't related. One is French and the other is British and they really do not like each other.
They decide to settle the matter with a duel, this entire situation is confusing to the Wittebanes as no one knows why these two random men showed up and are now fighting over who will be Alfred's brother when he's already part of Caleb and Philip’s family.
The French man, ironically named Francis, wins the duel and tries to get close to Alfred, but the kid shouts that Francis isn't his brother and he runs off to the forest. He chases after Alfred and Caleb and Philip follow after him, the brit, named Arthur, follows in secret.
Francis finds Alfred inside a clearing where he is about to explain the entire situation. Caleb and Philip watch behind a bush when Arthur suddenly appears and attacks Francis. Arthur pulls out a wand and casts a spell with the intent of banishing Francis from their reality. However Francis shot Arthur before he could finish the spell, causing the magic to go out of control and send everyone in the area into the Boiling Isles.
After that incident, Francis and Arthur took responsibility to take care of the children at least, both still hated each other and frequently fought over minor things.
You'd think that growing up in the Boiling Isles would have made Philip more tolerant but no, he'd already been indoctrinated by the town's propaganda and being in a realm of magic just scared him. Caleb tried to convince him otherwise but because Arthur had sent them here with a magic spell he just saw this place as akin to hell.
Speaking of Arthur... Philip accused him of being a witch after the incident. Arthur never explained why he could use magic even though Francis seemed to know but never told anyone, which lead to Philip hating him. He also hates Francis for trying to take his brother away. Caleb sees both Arthur and Francis as irresponsible and tries to keep his brothers away from them when he can.
Eventually Philip and Caleb grow up but Alfred doesn't. Neither of them know why and both Alfred and Francis explain why even though they seem to and would know why because they aren't aging either.
Alfred is too young to think too critically of his immortality. Caleb does fall in love with Evelyn and Philip takes this as an act of misguided betrayal. To Philip killing witches isn't an issue so he confronts his brother... and winds up killing him because he didn't repent.
Evelyn attacks him for this and once he returns to the home they were all staying at he blames Evelyn for killing Caleb. Both Arthur and Francis see through the lie but have different reactions. Arthur decided to leave after seeing the writing on the wall and he abandons Alfred and Francis. While Francis decides to stay and protect Alfred since he can't leave Philip, but he isn't that good at it since Alfred doesn't trust him. Francis eventually becomes a shell of his former self filled with guilt for what came next.
Alfred fully believed Philip’s lie and he used that to manipulate his little brother. Alfred became convinced that the witches were evil and couldn't be trusted. Neither were seen in Elsewhere and Elsewhen by Luz or Lilith.
When the crusades began, Francis reluctantly played along and Alfred was excited because he thought he was a hero. Alfred fell into the same delusion that Philip did but with more excitement and pride. By this point Alfred is in his late teens as he suddenly grew up overnight.
Philip also convinced Ukraine to join him, she now goes by the name Irunya to keep people from remembering her as the boogeyman. She thinks that Philip wants to keep the human realm and demon realm from interacting so she joins him gladly.
Eventually they go after one of the last wild witches on the knee, Baba Yaga. In this confrontation they wind up fighting Russia who Ukraine is shocked to see alive but she continues their intended mission. The fight ends with Baba Yaga's death, the destruction of Eclipse Lake by Irunya (At the time, Philip had lots of Titans blood stockpiled), and Alfred beheading Russia unsuccessfully. At this point, Russia had been traveling between worlds frequently and more physically resembled a witch than a human with short pointed ears and even a nonfunctional bile sack. Alfred only beheaded him because Ukraine said that he was a human before and Alfred saw him as a traitor.
Belos takes over the Boiling Isles like in Canon but creates a council for the humans to rule with him.
Now we jump to the 1940s just after the end of World War 2. Hetalia Belarus has been the only personification in Russia's family that's still on earth. She is commonly called "Russia" and is the personification of the Soviet Union.
Belarus wants to find her brother... But not for the reasons you might think. Ever since she was young she idolized him and had an unhealthy desire to be his... spouse. (Yes she is an incestuous yandere).
Belarus thought that her brother had been sent to another world after reading about what happened to Francis and Arthur, that it was the same or a similar spell that caused the later incident.
She managed to get there by forcing Hetalia Romania, one of the few personifications with magic, to open a portal and dragging him with her. They somehow landed inside Belos's lab (the one used to make grimwalkers) and used that as a base of operations while Belarus tried to find her brother.
When she went up to the knee and found that he'd taken Baba Yaga's place, living as a mysterious hermit in a chicken footed house. She was overjoyed to see him again and originally he was at well... until she started getting obsessive. She held nothing back and tried to drag him away to marry him but he resisted, causing her to become enraged.
Belarus then cut off his hand out of anger and left. Due to having already observing grimwalkers that Belos was growing, she got an idea. She and Romania locked themselves inside the lab. Belos tried to access his lab a week later but found that Romania had put up extremely powerful wards to keep people out.
Belos sent a guard with a fake love spell to offer to her, as the incident with her brother had made the news and he connected the dots. However Belarus realized what their true motives were after letting them in and killed them.
Belos then sent his current grimwalker to deal with Belarus, just thinking of her as some crazy woman who broke into his laboratory. She took this grimwalker hostage and kept him inside her small soviet apartment.
Belos then got impatient and went to kill her himself but he underestimated her severely. Every personification has had to manipulate their bosses at some point in history for various reasons and Belos just thought that she was an crazy lady. He was wrong.
Belarus managed to make Romania use magic to knock out Belos and they restrain him inside the apartment before closing the portal on them.
A few days later the soviet government went to search for their missing personification and the police went to search her apartment, there they found Belos and the grimwalker. The incident was reported however this was when Stalin was still in charge of the country who didn't care much about a missing personification and just sent both Belos and the grimwalker to the gulag.
Both were nearly worked to death until Belos's curse went out of control and destroyed the camp, letting several prisoners escape. The grimwalker settled down with a local Siberian tribe and lived out his life peacefully but Belos didn't have it so easy.
Belos was stuck living in the woods where his curse would frequently take control of him, there wasn't much food he could eat so he either starved or went town to town and begged or, more likely due to the language barrier, stole from anyone he could. All of this cause the police to go after him quite a lot which ended poorly for them almost every time, there were so many dead police that Belos became hight feared are an outcast any where he went. He tried to use whatever he could to keep the curse under control which led to him becoming addicted to morphine.
When Stalin died in 1953, his successor immediately started working on trying to find Belarus and started off by interrogating both the grimwalker and Belos. The grimwalker didn't know much but Belos explained more about the Boiling Isles and that he knew how to build a portal. The soviets saw much more than just an opportunity to get their personification back but also a chance for potential espionage using the door in gravesfield so they made a deal. Belos would help invent a portal using earth technology for them to use and they would give him a clean record and allow him to stay in Moscow. Belos agreed since it would allow him to rebuild his life and plans. The project was kept secret and Belos took on a new name, Mikhail Smirnov.
Back in the Boiling Isles, Belarus stole Belos's mask and cape, to mimic his height she stood on Romania's shoulders and impersonated Belos until Irunya noticed that something was off about him.
Belarus just revealed herself to her sister which was shocking to say the least. She also revealed the truth about Belos's plans, the grimwalkers and Caleb's murder. Alfred in particular was hit the worst by the last one, it was his linchpin for why witches evil and to learn that Philip was actually the killer...
Alfred had an identity crisis while Irunya was Disgusted by how far Belos would go. Belarus then explained why she was here, Europe had been destroyed in a nuclear hellfire at the end of the second world war, she and Romania escaped to the Boiling Isles and cannot go back.
In secret she creates her own grimwalker as a "better" version of her brother. These grimwalkers were objects of her obsession and desire and were treated as such unlike Belos's grimwalkers which were just tools to him. It's as bad as you think it is... they suffered the same fate as the ones Belos made, thrown into the pit of death.
The others didn't like what she was doing but there wasn't much they could do since she had managed to take over Belos's deal with the Collector and had strong magic.
Much later Alfred creates a grimwalker who becomes known as Hunter, for the sake of getting closure. He is actually a good uncle and the worst thing he's ever done is just overwork Hunter sometimes because that's how he grew up and delt with work. He also told Hunter tales of his other brothers, Philip and Caleb and how Philip was an evil man who murdered his brother
At some point Romania ran into Caleb’s ghost and both tried to find a way to help him escape from Belarus, but were caught. This led to Romania being cursed with a dog spirit that puts him under her control and Caleb fleeing.
That's mostly it for all the Backstory but I'm tired and the last bit of Backstory is right before season 1 so I'll make another post on that.
I went into more detail on ao3, here's the link https://archiveofourown.org/works/51685381/chapters/130660585

And before we get to far, can I have a little context on what you are keep/changing for TEW au bit?
Alrighty, accidentally deleted SO MUCH so I'm bitterly restarting:
Keeps:
Tatiana's whole lore and being the ice witch, along with all of her other fellas and kids being part of her crew.
Keeping the village, they've been haunted by her for a very long time and the modern folks don't know how to deal with her. They do have some tech, but Tatiana/Belos do NOT have any modern stuff.
Still like the idea of how the Aquatos get there, wanna keep them in.
Keeping pretty much all fandoms that were originally in it. They're all still chill lol.
Changes/Additions and lore too:
Trolls (with my personal au lore, don't know abt adding the bergens bc I have no ideas for them yet), Steven Universe even tho I SWORE it was already in there, Starlight Express (obviously), Hilda maybe (new season drops soon I don't wanna jump the gun), and HTTYD-The Nine Realms bc I'm attached to these kiddos no matter how many quirks the show has.
Wonderful concept of Luz being raised by Eda, got separated from her mom as a little kid and Eda took her in and raised her beside King. She tried to teach her how to us magic, was VERY surprised when Luz rushed up to her showing her glyphs excitedly. Not sure if Luz would have to wait to get her staff for as long or if she would've obtained String Bean FAR earlier seeing as Eda raised her in this. Going to have to change the au's name slightly bc I forgot she takes on the Clawthorne name in this one. Glad we didn't get too far lmao.
Eda has her suspicions about King being a titan. She doesn't know for sure straight away, but she's no idiot. She's seen the books detailing the vague history of titans. But she's never seen a demon that looks like King in her life. She continues to ignore it however, insisting King doesn't look exactly like the pictures and is likely a mimic of some sort. She feeds into his idea that he's the "King of Demons" even though a part of her deep down knows it's not true. Which is WHY she's so terrified when Luz insists on going out into the world with him, because the ice witch is bringing winter upon more and more places further down the mountain. Luz wants to stop the eternal winter from covering the planet, Eda's heart drops thinking she might lose her son and daughter.
Not sure which kids would and wouldn't live in the village, I don't think Steven and Connie would. Also not sure if his family would still be aliens or instead would be some kind of mystical gem race that did start on earth, but regardless he lives a bit far off. A mishap with Lion's portals as he and Connie are on an exploration leads him to encounter Luz and King early on. They become fast pals and Steven hurriedly agrees to help with her mission. Connie takes a bit of convincing but agrees as well.
TEW!Hunter is. An interesting lad to say the least. Still a grimwalker, he just has longer hair, not sure how he'd meet Flapjack and only vaguely sure of how he'd encounter the crew. He's very cutthroat, being raised up in a fancy palace far away from anyone else. He only knows the witches of the covens/the covenheads, his uncle, and the Collector...who he is annoyingly forced to call his cousin. Well, he acts annoyed around others, but the truth is he loves the little fella. They're friends, and he frequently steals the round prison that traps the poor thing, so that the two can talk without Belos prying in.
Vague vague idea where in a middle part of the plot, as they're befriending the Golden Guard, he sneaks his imprisoned star-child cousin out to the squad and begs them to get him far away from Belos' palace. Because he doesn't want the Collector to get hurt.
The crew that comes together to try and stop the eternal winter are Raz and his siblings, the "intern" kids, Steven and Connie (+Lion), and Luz and her witchy friends. Plus King and the Collector. They're very ambitious but confident they can do it.

details on the guardian family au?
Okay, so, the general thought process as I have it rn:
Its basis is a swap AU, right? So Hunter is the human, and Luz is the Grimwalker
Hunter, instead of being single child of Belos, is youngest out of seventeen brothers (4 sets of quadruplets, then Hunter) with Uncle Phillip creepily lurking in the background trying to get custody of Hunter
Hunter is very aggressive about his family, gets into fights, and his brothers collectively decide to send him to summer camp BEFORE someone brings an aggravated assault charge against him. Hunter's been more stressed lately because he's been seeing his Uncle around, the brothers think it's the other way around and he's been hallucinating Phillip because he's stressed.
While waiting for the bus, Hunter runs into Uncle Phil, freaks out, runs to hide in the old house, and drops his comfort item, something his parents gave him before they died (maybe something his dad carved? idk)
A raven carrying a bag of stuff picks it up and goes through a door, and Hunter follows after it, trying to get his thing back
Cue freaking out over scary demonic world
He runs into the raven lady, aka Lilith. She's still, you know, Lilith, so she's not wacky and fun like Eda, instead she's an uptight "have to hide all the time" criminal
Eda is head of the Empress' coven
Oh, who's the Empress, you ask?
Camila. Camila and her husband were transported from their home in the dominican republic basically as servants/slaves in Gravesfield. The demon realm was completely an escape for them
The falling out came from the husband wanting to go back to the human realm to free the rest of their families, take magic back with them and kill the people who enslaved them
Camila, however, was absolutely terrified that if they opened up a door back home, that the people of Gravesfield would come through and take away the freedom she's found in the demon realm/kill the people there. Given Belos' mindset in canon, fair.
She didn't mean to kill him. They were fighting/struggling over the door, and it was an accident
She was DEVASTATED. She's also stuck in this mindset that the human world is STILL like that. Her world is ruled entirely by fear
She made grimwalkers of her husband, but he'd always wanted a daughter, so they were female.
A lot of them, inevitably, wanted to go to the human realm to discover their roots, at which point, Camila panicked and killed them.
Her curse was self inflicted, she wanted the power to protect her family
Unlike Belos, she DOES regret every grimwalker she's killed. She doesn't mean to, she never means to, she's always reliving that awful moment where she panicked and killed her husband, but she can't stop. And she always thinks that this grimwalker is different, this one won't want to go back, she can convince this one to stay here
She zeroed in on Hunter as an IMMEDIATE threat because white male human from Gravesfield set off AAAAAAALL the trauma alarms
She's ultimately, well, the sympathetic villain we all thought Belos would be. She's just terrified out of her mind all the time, worried about her family and wanting more than anything to protect them, to the point where she kills the Grimwalkers to "protect" them from the human realm.
Lilith is trouble because she LOVES ancient history and getting into portalish stuff, and that is AGAINST THE LAW because WE DON'T ASSOCIATE WITH THE HUMAN REALM OR HUMAN STUFF
Meanwhile, the empress' coven is pure, unadulturated freedom, what Camila never got as a child, so it attracted Eda. "Coven" is a super loose term, Camila shuts down any attempt to bring any sort of order/control to magic
It is resulting in a few problems, a lot of experimentation gone wrong, because going too far in any direction can be a problem.
Not sure what the whole day of unity deal would be, anyone have any ideas? A day of separation seems... idk, weird. Slight chance maybe she thinks she can amass enough power to wipe Gravesfield and all of the bad memories it holds off the map (understandably something Hunter would not like)?

Luz’s Escapism
I feel there’s something just… Very, almost inherently escapist about Luz. There’s the obvious themes of escapism, how she escapes into fantasy and her dreams, something she confronts when handling Adegast. There’s the literal escapism; Escaping into the Boiling Isles, to avoid the human world and its trauma, and her understandable dread of the summer camp.
But there’s also her ‘happy-go-lucky’ attitude, which as I’ve mentioned before, was at first natural… But now seems to be something Luz is emphasizing, in an attempt to deny and thus escape from the doubt and anxieties within, the fear that she’s a burden to her loved ones. There’s of course Luz running away from confronting Camila; Literally in the case of Grom, but also deliberately putting it off. She eventually does try to come forward with the truth, but then Vee shows up, and HER dilemma is both a great excuse for Luz to lie, but also a source of compassion, since Luz wouldn’t want this Basilisk to get into trouble either.
And when Luz is called out by Camila and pressured into promising to come back and STAY home, Luz just… Accepts, because she’s afraid of confronting her mother. So she metaphorically ‘runs’ away from that truth, that she’s happier in the isles, by agreeing; And lo and behold Luz and Camila are separated just as it happens. Then we have Luz running away from her feelings for Amity, trying to deny and cover it up, hoping Amity can forget it; And when she sees Hooty’s tunnel of love, she outright attempts to destroy the entire thing.
Then there’s her indecision in choosing a Palisman, because that means confronting her future; And of course, all of the aforementioned issues, such as how Camila feels, what Luz knows she wants with Amity. Eda tries to get Luz to address her guilt in Separate Tides, and Luz practically runs away to avoid that confrontation, and instead focusing on killing the Selkidomus as a distraction, and ultimately as a means to make up for her ‘mistakes’, her existence.
It’s just really fitting to me, given how since the very beginning Luz is a character about escapism; We saw her escape home, and now she’s trying to escape her past. One gets the sense that Luz is trying to escape the reality of who she is, by constantly compensating for herself, being as best a friend as possible, etc., and when her loved ones attempt to bring up these issues, she tries to run from that too. Luz just wants to get away from it all, that’s what this premise was about; Her trying to leave that trauma behind, and hopefully that PART of herself behind as well. Luz is just grappling with a constant denial and terror, this apprehension.
This is what her procrastination is, in a sense; Which for anyone with executive dysfunction, that’s a huge mood. And Luz is canonically ADHD, so I can definitely see this being an issue she had in school, given this show’s criticism of the educational system and its hostility towards neurodivergent minds. Regardless, in her attempts to not immediately confront but put aside for the last second… It does kind of feel like running away. Luz avoids confrontation by being a people pleaser.
And it’s kind of this paradoxical juxtaposition, because Luz is outwardly very brave, and in a lot of ways she is; Confronting all manner of deadly threats and foes without hesitation, for her friends. But when it comes to things that reflect on herself… Well, Luz doesn’t believe in herself like she does her friends, who are so kind and gracious to put up with someone like her; So she quakes and breaks.
It’s the social anxiety that makes Luz withdraw, internally and/or outwardly, often removing herself from the situation, and it’s just heartbreaking to see Luz be so constantly terrified, deep down, even as she maintains this veneer of happiness and courage; Most of it genuine of course, but there’s something festering within that threatens to uproot it, and Luz KNOWS and so she tries to continue covering it up, even if it’s with a façade.
Luz is just held and bogged down, restrained by these obligations and ties to two different worlds, literally and figuratively, and chains on either side allow for even less movement than just the one. In the end, Luz just wanted to get away from it all, to be somewhere where she could be free; Free to be herself, and free OF herself and her supposed flaws. You get the sense that she’s constantly apologizing for being herself, for existing; And that repentance is exhausting, and so she hopes she can be forgiven for wanting a space where she can selfishly exist as-is. And Luz is, indeed, more than forgiven.
She’s practically got catholic guilt, which I guess is topical given her opponents are Hunter and Belos, the latter of whom reeks of catholic imagery and was probably a literal Puritan himself; Belos/Philip is a parallel and foil to Luz after all. Given Dana Terrace was raised in a Christian school and once placed into a headlock by a nun as a child, I think I can deduce the inspirations and background to this type of writing, though I am cautious of being parasocial in my speculation of course.
TL;DR I guess Escapism from Steven Universe would be a good song for Luz. And I guess for Hunter and Belos, by extension. Man, a LOT of characters in this show seem repentant for their existence, don’t they; It is a show about outcasts and weirdoes so I’d expect nothing less alas.

How do you feel Hunter would react to Luz's inner circle expanding post Raine-Reveal. On one hand Luz is far safer with three of the strongest witches on the isles looking out for her, on the other (in his eyes) he is significantly less useful than three coven heads and may feel his position is threatened.
(about princess/empress luz AU)
man this has me thinking SO MUCH. i've been pondering this for about a half hour while napping
i do think that hunter's biggest feeling - particularly at the beginning - would just be Relief. it's SUCH a relief to have other people who know the truth, and it's a relief to be able to talk to anybody else about his worries when he's worried about luz, and it's a relief to know that if luz manifests a latent curse then hunter has people he can call for help.
but AFTER that. hoo boy
okay so. my main thought is. the thing about luz being crazier than hunter in this AU is, like. like.... that's worked REALLY WELL for them so far. inasmuch as very anxious codependence can.
and the Reason it's worked so well for them is because luz's flavor of crazy enables hunter to mask his own worries/insecurities/fears/insanity.
luz gets scared that she's dragging hunter down by being so anxious and clingy and neurotic and needy. she doesn't necessarily need him to DO anything for her, but she gets anxious when he's not nearby.
i started drafting more of the mindscape oneshot - again, no promises i'll complete it - but there's a moment where darius says in amazement to inner!luz, "you don't even remember he's alive when you can't see him, do you?"
and that's. a whole vibe. like luz knows LOGICALLY that hunter is alive and well when she can't see him, but she has Not yet processed the grief terror pain etc that she went thru. so she is still on edge all the time
this works out well for hunter because he really likes being around luz, and he likes feeling useful, and also 98% of his identity is wrapped up in being useful to luz. like the two of them are making it work as well as they can, and they're Incredibly sweet, but like. it takes a special flavor of mental illness to not only enjoy being in hunter's position but to also Legitimately Want That More Than Anything.
canon hunter's abandonment issues are visible from Space. his relationship with belos is different in this AU, so there's less of the constant "i'm gonna replace you :)" terrorism. but this AU's hunter has absolutely taken all of canon hunter's loyalty and need for approval and desire to be Good & directed it more toward luz.
hunter has already spent a good chunk of time prior to belos's death being So So So Fucking Anxious And Upset over luz abandoning him. but he's mostly rationalized and explained those feelings with (admittedly very rational) worries ABOUT her. like, he's scared that luz is hurt, that means it's not weird to have panic attacks over the concept of her leaving him!!
all of this background is to say.... i don't think that hunter would feel that he's being fully replaced or that he's obsolete. (if AMITY was a factor he almost certainly would, but that's a whole separate post.)
BUT.
i think that he would be Terrified of luz deciding that she doesn't need him anymore.
bc he is just as anxious about her being near him as she is about him being near her. he just doesn't usually have to express that.
and Also i think that he would not understand this feeling at all. or where it comes from. or what he wants. or how to fix it.
at best i think he'd be like "oh, i am possessive and toxic for no reason. this is my curse as a man probably. or something. better repress THAT as much as possible"
as for how this would manifest externally.... i think it depends on the circumstances. i feel like luz would be able to clock that something's wrong before anything really wild or terrible happened.
but i'm REALLY enjoying the thought of like. borderline eclipse lake hunter vibes. except slightly more put-together. hunter is like wow.... it's so cool how luz is talking to people who aren't me and making plans with people who aren't me and getting everything she could ever want from people who aren't me and she's going to forget about me and then my life will be over and i'll have to dig my own grave :) time to overcompensate wildly by trying to be More Useful Than Usual :)
DON'T GET ME WRONG THO i really don't think it would last super long. luz (or darius or raine) would be like hey. hey. hunter. hey hunter. hey, hunter?
what the fuck are you doing.
and the whole thing would unravel pretty quick.
but wow the boy Sure Is Neurotic. for the whole, like, ten minutes before it unravels.

hey! if your writing requests are open, and of course if youre okay with it can you do maybe an Emera, Edric, or Hunter with a Clawthorne! Reader, maybe the reader is the daughter of Eda (if you want). if youre not interested you can ignore this, don’t forget to drink some water!!
- S.
Fluff Imagine | Edric, Emira & Hunter [Golden Guard] (separate)
Tumblr media
thank you for requesting!
I wrote these as short imagines as I wasn’t entirely sure what you wanted me to include, so I hope this satisfies your request!
reader doesn’t use any pronouns but is assumed as Eda’s daughter
Edric Blight
imagine walking out of your first class of the day, chatting with friends and rolling your eyes at your teacher’s remark about the so-called “clawthorne look” that you inherited from your mother; a look that apparently meant you were a destined troublemaker. imagine being all but tackled by your energetic boyfriend as he peppers your face with kisses and emphatically repeats how much he missed you—even though you’d only been apart for an hour or so. imagine your friends giggling at the display of affection as one of them comments on how ed’s mother must hate him for his choice to date you; entirely in jest yet still setting him off all the same as he pulls you closer to him and huffs out a half-joking retort. “clawthorne or not, i love (y/n) and nothing mother says will change that!”
Emira Blight
imagine being nervous to introduce your girlfriend to your family, partially out of fear for her response to them and partly out of the worry that your mother would insist you break up for both of your safety; after all, blights and clawthornes don’t exactly mix. imagine fidgeting as you pace the length of the sitting room, earning a few dozen teasing comments from your family, before you finally hear someone knock at the door—a wholly expected sound that terrified you nonetheless. imagine hurrying to let her in and emira (wearing a formal dress and heels that made her seem that much more ethereal to you) simply smiling and kissing your cheek as she turns to address your family with all the courtesy and grace you’d come to expect of her. and imagine that anxiety leaving you both when your mother finally speaks up and says “you chose a good one, kid”.
Hunter
imagine coming home after a long day of school, practically leaning on your foster sister as you both stumble tiredly through the front door of your home. imagine being greeted by the endearing sight of your mother explaining wild magic with a nostalgic glint in her eyes as she places a gentle hand on your boyfriend’s shoulder, answering each of his questions with an insight and care you knew he wouldn’t have even received from his own blood family. imagine him noticing you and moving to greet you with a tight hug and a chaste kiss to your cheek—offering a simple half-teasing greeting as luz rushes off to admire your mother’s harpy form; “welcome home, clawthorne.”

I'm sending you three characters because I'm a menace: Warden Wrath, Hunter, and Bel.
You call yourself a menace, yet all you have done is given me an excuse to talk about my THREE FAVORITE BOYS.
Warden Wrath
First impression
It went something like, and I quote, "Hough. Now that's a good design." Like, I saw the plague doctor mask and he met most, if not all, of my standards. His voice just sealed the deal for me.
Impression now
I've used the phrase "Beefy Rules Dad" to describe him a couple times, so I think it's apt to use now. I still love him, I think he's a bit underutilized, and feel bad that the cards cast him as a level one villain.
Favorite moment
"You've always evaded our capture, you were always the one that got away. I found that alluring." He actually sounds genuine at the first part, and Luz's disgusted reaction to the second always makes me chuckle.
Idea for a story
I want to see him and Eda interact. Not in a fight setting or attempted-arrest kind of way, just a semi-awkward conversation between two people. Maybe they talk a little bit about being forcibly transformed (I found her "Wrath? You still in there, buddy?" unnecessarily kind).
Unpopular opinion
I'd say this is "unpopular" just by the fact that I have never seen it anywhere before, but you will pry the idea that he is a great dad from my cold, dead hands after sentient life has developed on my corpse.
Favorite relationship
I cannot get over how supportive his guards were in the first episode, so the notion of this weird relationship with them that includes "boss and subordinates" and "they will give him relationship advice and cheer him on when the time comes" is pretty stellar.
Favorite headcanon
You ended up being right about this, but Wrath being a control freak! It adds a lot to the base of "imposing warden" in a way that just scratches my brain.
Putting the other two under a cut to avoid too much scrolling:
Hunter:
Thoughts on our favorite ramet have been given here!
Belos (HOOH BOY):
First impression
Captivated. Entranced. Utterly fascinated by this guy. Back in season one, when we knew literally nothing about him, this air of mystery coupled with an insanely cool aesthetic (which I could write a whole separate post about) just drew me in instantly. I've been a villain enjoyer my whole life, and now is no exception.
Impression now
He is one of the few characters that I would refer to as "blorbo from my shows". I still have the same level of fascination, but it's gone from a kind of "mystery novel reader chortling and going along with the plot" to a "crazed conspiracy theorist who has covered the walls in paper and red string" thing. My love for him has only grown. I am the living embodiment of this video.
Favorite moment
It's a tie. Number 1 is "Okay. I'll play." because come ON. WHAT a way to kick off a boss fight in the season finale, no less! He isn't angry that Luz has been disrupting his plans, or caught off guard by her in any way, he sounds amused by her threat. That, and the fact that it's coupled with him melting and rearranging himself behind her to teleport. Number 2 is his face reveal and subsequent conversation with Hunter. I love it because it's exactly the opposite of the terrifying Emperor we saw fight Luz. He reminisces fondly about the Human Realm, even lightly jokes with Hunter, all while that music box tune plays in the background. Man, I just... the RANGE-
Idea for a story
Where do I even start with this one. I've definitely been on a Brothers Wittebane kick recently, so a flashback into their childhood rife with foreshadowing about their future would do nicely. Like several subsequent punches to the stomach.
Unpopular opinion
I think that his mental state is way worse than anybody seems to think. Like, yes, on the surface and aside from the curse, he's the picture of a calm, collected leader with a definitive plan, but I really think upwards of four hundred years of isolation and God knows what else has him a little crazier than anybody seems to suspect. I can't imagine also having Hunter around would do him much good, as he grows to look more and more like the brother that abandoned Philip so many years ago.
Favorite relationship
You know. You know damn well.
Favorite headcanon
Although it's wonderfully angsty, I like that headcanon of yours that he picks and tears at his wood-rot. It kind of seems like just the unnerving, neurotic thing that would lie under such a composed surface.

Man, this episode sdfjnsfdnnjf
also i got the prediction so wrong jdssnfdndf
“Hopefully Vee and Camila centric. Maybe she gets the messages and videos finally (which is a terrifying though since, yknow, that would mean that the portal got fixed). Besides that i dont know what else could happen.
That or maybe Luz tried to reach out to someone, maybe another attempt at her portal or she reaches out to the owlfam or someone else (maybe someone who does know how to help on making the portal)”
I think the only right thing was that Camila and Vee did appear for a moment (but also to be fair this was made before reaching out got a synopsis so I was going from the name alone)
This episode might take the crown for episode that made me cry the most, echoes of the past surprisingly is on second place now after almost a year
Aaaaand make me realize I might have some daddy issues, but thats for later in the post dsnjdsnj
I’ll get this out of the way already:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
YOU FUCKING DORK I LOVE YOU
(And I appreciate this got brought up again. “Are you good now?” njdsnjdgnjd)
Also the hovering spell. Give me the glyph combination
I do like how casually luz got Eda’s jakcet fdsjndfsnj it’s cute
About Alador, I do like how they handled him. I was unsure on the end but when I was rambling about the episode on discord, someone pointed out that he only mentioned talking about Amity’s problem with Odalia, not his. Which, oof for Amity. I really do feel so bad for her, she clearly liked him way more than her mom, she wanted to have something in common with him besides abominations, she wanted to understand him. And he doesn’t even pay a lot of attention to her or the twins’s lives, he didn’t know she was dating Luz. And I do get why she cares a lot about him, that little soft moment at the start pretty much shows a little bit of why she wants to connect with him. I do get why she wants to have an actual good relationship with him, why she went “it’s a start”, just like Willow said to her in Understanding Willow. (which also I’m glad she’s taking notes from Willow’s approach to a topic like this)
I’m glad she set boundaries with him, didn’t want a hug and instead just held his hand. And her saying SHE is making her own choices now, it’s so amazing for her, I’m so glad she’s not going to ler herself be controled by them anymore!
(also her not wanting to join a coven anymore, her joining the EC being Odalia’s want, not hers and Odalia wanting to dye her hair green again? Wow the growth and oof that sucks)
I mentioned on another post but that did make me realize I might have some daddy issues, last week i did mention Alador looked a lot like my dad, and the bit about not paying much attention...yeah (its not as serious as Alador, but it’s still there a bit). Even the wanting to connect with him felt very familiar.
(And yes boo your dad)
Going from one dad talk to another, OUCH
Luz’s dad and everything related to that day, her wanting to ignore it as much as possible, that really hurt. I’m happy they’re adressing her mental health/emotional issues, she really needs it. She was so scared of being left alone with her thoughts, she messed things up, she messed Amity’s plan, she obviously didn’t mean to, but she did. Luz herself said that it doesn’t excuse what she did, but she was being very hard on herself and bottling and brushing her feelings aside isn’t the answer, it’s the problem that caused all that in the first place.
She has a lot on her hands, she’s lost, but the owlfam and her friends are there for her, and I’m happy she’s starting to accept that more and more for her
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s not easy for her, but she shouldn’t deal with it alone
And on the writing side of things, it’s good that it showed that her self worth doubts and fear of burdering others from Separate Tides aren’t gone. Eda’s talk with her did help, but yeah it’s not something that magically goes away
Okay, that was a lot to write djjfdsnjsfd I think I’ll start commenting on the B plot because oof I need that
I loved this Eda, King and Ed trio we got, I never expected them to work so well together! This depth of the twins was really good! Ed being insecure about his interests and him getting positive reactions about them was so good! He’s great, I can’t believe I held a grudge for them for so long
ALSO, him and Em knowing quite a bit about other tracks of magic??? AMAZING
Tumblr media
I’ll cherish this forever, HE’S PART OF THE BAD GIRL COVEN NOW! (Em too!)
Tumblr media
And we know what goreberries look like now!
I do really want their magic illusion stone gem things, would love to use those in the winter
AND HE GOT THE BAT!!!
And one last thing before my more short commentary, it’s really intriguing the day of unity reveal we got
It’s going to unite them with the Titan, “ won’t be inivitng to magickind, wild or not”. Some people say that it’s going to unite the witches and demons to the Titan to get more Titan blood to go to the human realm which, 1) yikes, 2) yeah I can see that happening. But the second thing makes me unsure about it, “won’t be inviting to magickind” sounds more like just taking their magic away
So yeah, and now, random commentaries
Tumblr media
1) I like his outfit 2) Odalia’s hair looks a lot like s1 Amity (yikes) 3) RAEDA 4) DARIUS IS THERE (and not with his abomination hair yet) 5) Warden Wrath is there too
I like the voice faking thing, very smart
Tumblr media
I could totally cosplay Ed like this, just need a yellow shirt and a tiara and I’m all good to go askjdjsfdj
“my student/child” NEVER SHUTTING UP ABOUT IT

Won’t you let me in?
Fandom: The Owl House
Relationships: Eda & Luz
Summary: After the events of Separate Tides, Eda and Luz have a talk. Title is from the song “Strange Sight” by KT Tunstall.
AO3
What a day this is turning out to be, Eda thought as the so-called “Golden Guard” approached her and Luz.
The witch had originally planned to take the money back to the house after checking in on the Selkidomus.
But then she got caught, and it turned out Luz was on the ship instead of safe at home. (She had expected Luz to follow the cart home after they started driving back to the house) The kid had apparently wanted in on the bounty hunt, once again not knowing what she was getting into. Forget the money that was forgotten in the boiling sea, Luz was more important! Eda had of course questioned her.
“Now why were YOU on that ship to begin with? You could've gotten killed!”
And then the Golden Chump showed up, and here they are.
“Hello, criminals!” He said. “What's about to happen should be relatively painless. If you just do what I say.”
“And why would we do that?” Luz retorted.
“Because none of you can use real magic.” He said, pointing a finger at the both of them.
Eda narrowed her eyes and pointed back. “You don't know that.” Sure, glyph magic was different, but she won't stand the talk of it not being “real”. They haven't seen Luz in action.
The Golden Guard shrugged. “Maybe not. But I do know you're standing on a plant that eats flesh.”
On cue, Eda and Luz looked down to see that they were indeed, standing on a flesh eating plant. And just in time, both of them could already feel the thing burning through their shoes. They yelped and lept to the side as the guard just watched.
Ugh, stupid Golden Guard…, Eda thought.
“Ahahaha! Okay.” He chortled. “The human will remain a sailor to repay all the money she lost.”
Eda tensed up at that idea. As if she'd allow Luz to become a pawn for the stupid emperor, just for some stupid money!
Luz needs to be safe at home…
“While the Owl Lady will be arrested, again! For attacking one of the emperor's ships.”
Luz looked at Eda, surprised. “Emperor’s ship?” She repeated.
“They're the only ones worth robbing.” Eda replied. At least the kid didn't know. She thought. She supposed Luz wouldn't have gone if she knew this was a setup from Belos. She turned back to the guard.
“Why are you guys hunting the Selkidomus? It's a peaceful creature and you're provoking it!” Eda demanded.
“The emperor ordered me to slay one. I'm just following orders.” The guard said nonchalantly.
Losing her cool, Eda glared at him. “Well I'm just gonna smack you around a bit!” She shouted, snapping her arm off. Unfortunately, the Golden Guard was too quick for her, dodging her to the point where she tripped.
“Leave Eda alone!” Eda heard Luz shout. Then the kid was tossed aside next to her.
Apparently, the dingus wasn't finished with them quite yet, because he then threatened to dip them into the Boiling Sea, ouch, but then he changed his mind.
“I don't have to be that mean.” He said snarkily.
Titan I hate this guy already…
“No one will have to be a sailor or get arrested. If one of you follows those Selkidomus tracks and slays the beast.” He ordered. “Here! I'll help!” Then the guard materialized a sword into the air, dropping it in front of them.
What is it with the coven and slaying innocent creatures?!
Luz looked at the sword, and back up to the guard, pleading with her eyes.
The guard rubbed his mask. “Ugh, you're making this difficult. Go, or I drown the bird.” He said, revealing King behind the cage he had. Thankfully, the demon appeared unharmed.
Eda looked at Luz, seeing her conflicted face. If she had Owlbert with her right now, she would've grabbed her kid and tried to make a break for it, as if the ordeal never happened.
But of course it wasn't that simple.
Luz sighed. “Fine.” And to Eda’s alarm, she picked up the sword. “I'll do it.” She said in a low voice.
Eda reached out an arm as Luz headed towards the cave.
“Luz, wait!” She pleaded. There had to be a way out of this other than killing! “Luz!”
On the way to the area where the Selkidomus was, Eda was trying to disuade Luz from doing what she was about to do.
“Luz, don't hurt the Selkidomus. We can find another way out of this.” She said.
But Luz kept walking. “You heard what he said, Eda. If you and King want to be free…” Luz stopped in front of a ditch and jumped onto a shipwreck. “Then I have to do this alone.”
The witch found it hard to ignore that Luz excluded herself from the “being free” deal, and her heart started pounding at the sight of Luz being above a ditch again. She didn't like where this was going at all.
“What's this ‘alone’ business? Don't you remember?” Eda tried reminding her. “Us weirdos have to-”
“What? Stick together?” Luz snapped. She looked at Eda, forlorn, almost startling her with the sadness in her face. “Because you stuck with me you lost your magic! You almost got turned to stone, and now you can't even afford your apple blood because you're worried about what I need to eat!” She rambled, looking down sadly.
Eda stared at Luz, her heart breaking for the girl. She knew Luz was going through some things, but she didn't think it was this bad. Only a week and a half of them being together again, and Luz still blames herself. She should've paid more attention in the last week. Eda tried to find the words to tell Luz that no, this isn't your fault, you can come down from there and we can find a different way to go back home together.
But before Eda could come up with an answer, the Selkidomus below growled, meaning it was awake. Luz kept her balance on the beam, then looked away from Eda.
“It's my fault all this happened, that's why I've got to do this alone.” She looked back at Eda, smiling. “I'll make it all up to you, Eda the Owl Lady. I promise.”
Then, to Eda’s horror, Luz let herself fall off the beam and down the ditch. She couldn't help reaching her hands out, as if she could actually catch her. Her heart dropped to her stomach and she couldn't help crying out Luz’s name.
No, no, NO-
Suddenly, Eda was reminded of that day on the bridge. Her sister tossing Luz aside like a ragdoll, into the ditch, that terrified little girl screaming as she fell, onto the spikes-
“LUZ!”
Eda shook herself out of her stupor, reminding herself of what to do.
Thinking quickly, Eda grabbed a nearby vibe and lept down the ditch to find her kid.
She just got her back, and she'll be damned if she lost her again.
Soon enough, the witch found a safe ledge to stand on and Eda spotted the kid on the ground, preparing to throw herself at the Selkidomus, which was already defending itself. Eda spotted a nearby branch, thick and strong enough to use. She tugged on it, preparing to swing.
Just as Luz had catapaulted herself in the air with her ice glyph, Eda swung in just in time. She wrapped an arm around Luz, holding her as tight and as close as possible under one arm so she wouldn't be dropped.
I gotcha, kiddo!
Thankfully they were able to avoid the creature’s jaws and landed safely in a bush.
As soon as they landed, Luz had tumbled out of Eda’s arms and clumsily sat back up. Eda recovered as well, turning back to the kid.
Eda pointed a finger at Luz, and she stared back with wide eyes, startled.
“You think throwing your life away is gonna help me? Well it won't.” Eda said firmly. She needed Luz to hear this. Luz deserved to hear this.
“You helped me find King’s crown when you barely knew me, you saved me from turning to stone,” Eda averted her eyes from the kid, starting to feel emotional. “And you even got me talking to my sister again.” She looked back up, seeing that Luz was still listening.
“So…unfortunately for you…my life is pretty great because I'm friends with Luz the Human.” Eda finished, her voice wavering.
That seemed to be exactly what Luz needed, because now she was looking at her with glistening eyes and a trembling lip.
Eda blinked her eyes hard to keep the tears at bay, and her face got serious again.
Focus, Eda, we need to get out of here.
“Now,” She snapped out of it and grabbed Luz’s face, startling her. “Your guilt-ridden brain is clouding your judgement.” She said, poking Luz’s forehead. “There’s gotta be a way out of this where no one has to get hurt.” Eda let go of the kid’s cheeks and looked around the cave.
Just then, a small noise made them turn around. A baby Selkidomus had approached them. Luz looked at it for a moment, putting the pieces together in her head, then turned back to Eda.
“Eda,” the witch looked at Luz, willing to hear any plan she had right now.
“Do you wanna learn your first glyph?” She asked with a determined smile, holding up one of her light glyphs.
Not for the first time, Eda marvels at just how bright her kid is.
~
Later, Luz and Eda had managed to create a fake Selkidomus out of plant glyphs and made it work by using the light glyphs to fool the Golden Guard into thinking they were fighting the real thing.
The power of theatrics and a bright young mind.
Moments later, Eda had gotten up and used whatever paper was left to draw more light glyphs on the ground.
She still remembers the first time Luz casted these glyphs. They were so beautiful, and Eda always found them comforting. And now she gets to draw them herself. It only took a week for her to finally try it, but it was worth it.
It wasn’t long before Luz returned with King safely out of the cage. When she approached, Eda took a ball of light in her hands and glanced up at Luz.
“My first glyph! Did I do good?” If she was being completely honest, Eda felt like a giddy little kid again, learning new magic and sharing it with the people she loved. It felt wonderful.
Luz observed her with a bright smile. “Yeah! You did great!”
The baby Selkidomus returned, quickly worming its way toward Luz, nuzzling her, which delighted the kid as she was hugging back.
“Baby, awwwww!” She cooed, and a part of Eda was relieved to see the Luz she knew begin to return.
“Wait- what is that?!” King asked, alarmed.
“Don’t worry, King, once the mother saw we weren’t a threat to her baby she calmed down.” Eda reassured, patting the baby gently. Then she turned to the mother behind them. “This area is dangerous,” she explained. “You need to move further out, into the sea.”
Understanding Eda’s warning, the creature nodded. Then something strange happened. It started...gagging. Until it puked up a pile of some gold goop, which Eda recognized to be Selkie Gris.
Mother of Titan, they hit the jackpot!
Luz stared at it with disgust for a few seconds before Eda excitedly pulled her close in a side hug.
“Hot dang! It gave you the treasure of the sea!” Eda said in excitement, holding her kid with one arm and holding the other arm out to present their prize.
“Gold? ...Tuna?” Luz said in confusion.
“It’s Selkie Gris!” Eda let Luz go and scooped some of the stuff into her hands. “People pay big money for it at the night market!” Seeing Luz’s still confused face, she got an idea. The witch smushed it in her hands and took the opportunity to rub it on the kid’s face. “Ahh, feeelll the money, Luz! Luxuriate it!” She teased.
“No, no, Eda! Ahh!” As expected, Luz protested and squirmed against the touch, but she was starting to laugh, which is what Eda wanted.
Eda smirked, taking hold of the kid’s hands as she tried and failed to get away. “What? Don’t like to luxuriate? There’s a whole pile of luxury right here!” Then she grabbed Luz’s arms and swiftly tossed her into the pile, earning a yelp from the girl. “Move over!” Eda said, following suit and landing face down.
“Edaa!” Luz protested, but she broke out into laughter with Eda. It filled the witch with much joy to see Luz laughing and smiling again. She deserved it after the rough day they just had.
With that being said, after a minute, Eda got up and decided it was finally time to head home. Maintaining her balance, she reached her hands out to Luz and hoisted her up, keeping a tight grip on her so she wouldn’t fall.
Thankfully, the Golden Guard didn’t obliterate her boat, so they had a way back home. Eda used an extra sack she had to bag the Selkie gris so they could take it home. It was significantly lighter than the snails. They would have to make a trip the night market to trade it off soon. Something had finally gone right today!
“You ready to go home?” Eda asked, turning to Luz, who was settled behind her with King on her shoulder.
“Aye-aye, captain!” Luz said, saluting.
That’s the Luz I know and love, Eda thought. “Alrighty then, brace yourself!” and she, King and Luz started their way back home.
~
It was seven in the evening, and the trio had made it home. After Lilith had presented her scrying potion, Eda had gone off to order their takeout, leaving Luz alone with her thoughts in the hallway.
...Something Luz really didn’t like doing.
A lot had happened all in one night, from her and Eda getting ambushed by the Golden Guard, to her being forced to go slay the Selkidomus (knowing she was about to take away a baby’s mother back there made it worse to think about), to Eda talking her out of it.
In all honesty, Luz felt like she needed to hear those words. Eda was right. She had done so much to help her, and she did seem happier whenever Luz was around. Maybe she wasn’t a burden after all…
She was snapped out of her thoughts when the witch in question came back around the corner.
“Well, I’m tired. How about you, kid?” She said, yawning.
“Hungry.” Luz said simply.
“Don’t worry, food should be here in about a half hour.” Eda replied, ruffling Luz’s hair. Then she noticed a familiar look on her face. “You okay, kid?”
Luz shook herself out of her thoughts. “Yeah, why wouldn’t I be?”
Eda put a hand on her shoulder. “I know that look. You’re deep in thought.” Luz looked down at the floor. “Do you wanna talk about it? You know you don’t have to if you don’t want to.” The witch knew it would only make it worse for the girl to keep things inside. And after what happened in the cave, she wanted to know how it got this bad.
Luz supposes it wouldn’t hurt. She trusted Eda. “Okay…” she gave a small nod.
Eda slung an arm around her shoulders. ‘’C’mon, walk with me.” and the two walked slowly down the hallway.
“A lot just happened tonight.”
“That’s for sure.” Eda agreed. “I- you really scared me back there, you know?” she said, hand tightening on Luz’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry.” Luz answered. The last thing she wanted to do was hurt Eda. She supposes she doesn’t always consider that endangering herself contributes to that. “I just...wanted to make things right.”
They stopped walking as Eda turned to her. “You don’t owe me anything, Luz. You know that, right?” She said, meeting the girl’s eyes.
“But-”
“No buts. I promise I’m not angry, kiddo, I just hate seeing you like this.” She sighs. “I wish you would’ve told me before things got this far.” Noticing Luz starting to sag, she guides them to sit against the wall so they can talk more comfortably.
“I promise I’m not angry.” Eda repeats softly. “You're just a kid, you really shouldn't have to carry shit like this…”
Luz takes a breath and continues to speak. “I hated seeing you and Lilith have such a hard time with money. And most of the money that we did have was spent on me. I-I thought that if I got a big enough bounty, you wouldn’t have to worry so much about me anymore, and I wouldn’t be such a burden to you.” Luz could feel tears starting to build up. “But I guess I messed that up.”
“Hey.” Eda said, tilting Luz’s wobbling chin up. “Listen to me. Don’t you think like that.” She moved the hand to Luz’s shoulder. “You were never a burden, okay?”
Luz looked at her with teary eyes. “Really?”
“Really. A burden is an unwanted responsibility. But you?” Eda used her thumb to gently wipe away some of Luz’s tears. “I’ll never get tired of you. You're the best thing that's happened to me in a long time. I want to take care of you. You mean so much to me.”
At this point, Luz is smiling wide with a few stray tears rolling down her face. “Do you really mean that?”
Eda nodded, cupping her cheek. “Of course I do. I told you a week ago that I don’t regret anything. You’re a wonderful kid, Luz. Anyone that calls you otherwise is stupid.” Luz giggles at that. “I’ll pummel anyone that says otherwise.”
Luz hesitantly moves in for a hug, and Eda draws her in easily. “You promise?”
Eda nods, pulling Luz closer. “I promise. It’s okay.” She begins to stroke Luz’s hair a little bit. Then another thought intrudes her mind. Her grip tightens around her kid once more.
“You really scared me when you jumped down there…” Eda spoke. “I thought I was gonna lose you again.” The memory of Luz falling towards those spikes is never going away anytime soon. The witch felt like her nightmares were coming true. No way in hell does she ever want to go through that again.
Luz nuzzles closer. “I know… I promise I’ll be more careful.” She isn’t sure it’s a promise she can keep, but she’s willing to try. A part of Luz notices that Eda’s becoming more and more casual with touch, but chooses to ignore it.
“Good.” Eda pulled away from the embrace, still holding Luz by her shoulders. “Remember that, okay? I don’t want you talking to yourself like this.” She said, tapping the kid’s head.
“I will.” Before they got up, Luz moved in for one more hug. “I love you, Eda.” Not for the first time, Luz was grateful that Eda made no small effort to just be there for her. She underestimated her.
Eda hugged her back. “I love you too, Luz.”
Then, a knock at the door, and a screech from Hooty.
“Looks like the food’s here! You still hungry, kiddo?”
“Oh my god, yes.” Luz groaned.
Eda laughed, stood up, and offered a hand to help Luz up. Unfortunately, the girl stood up too quickly, causing her to stumble a bit.
“Ahhh, head rush, head rush!” Luz murmured. She held onto Eda’s hand.
“You good?” Eda asked with a laugh.
“Yup, yup, I’m good. Just stood up too fast.”
“Wanna race to the kitchen?” Eda offered. “I’ll give you a head start.”
Luz chuckled. “You’re on!”
Yeah, Eda thought, looking fondly at her kid. I still don’t regret anything.
And Luz looked at Eda, seeing her heterochromatic eyes. True, the witch might've lost all her powers, but she didn't lose her love.

Quick Thoughts On the New Intro/Episode Titles/Synopses of The Owl House Season Two
Yup. I'm doing this.
Because that intro looks sick as hell, those episode titles/synopses have me hyped, and I literally can't focus on anything else at the moment.
So strap in!
(Huge spoiler warnings below)
Tumblr media
First off, this thing. To me, this signifies two possibilities.
A. It's representing the portal being destroyed, hence the eye being similar to the one on the portal door and the fire within it signifying destruction.
B. It hints at how intense this season really is gonna be. Judging by, again, the fire in the eye signifying destruction. Because if that's not an ominous sign, I don't know what is.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I love these new character introductions. Not only is the animation smooth as butter, but they signify who the character is and their role in the group, what with their spells and their body language.
Tumblr media
And, I appreciate seeing Amity a part of it as well. She solidified her spot as part of the main group from "Wing it Like Witches" and most likely continues to do so throughout this season as well...hopefully.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a solid transition from the heroes to the villains (Or ex-villain, in Lilith's case). We also get some sneak peeks about these fiendish foes and their roles in the season. Lilith looks ashamed while dressed in rags (as she should), Kikimora looks feisty (which I'm all for), and the new guy...looks younger than I thought...F**K. This means he really is gonna be a part of a love triangle between Luz and Amity, isn't it?
Tumblr media
...I mean, that just looks awesome.
It's a clear indicator of who the true villain of the series is while also making Belos look threatening as all forms of hell.
I can't wait to see how this guy makes me s**t my pants with horror this season!
And that's about it for the new intro. There's not much different afterward except for Luz flying through Bonesborough looking more expertly shaded than before. It's all a perfect update that is better than the first intro by a long shot.
Now on to speculating the episode titles/synopses. But before I do, this is your last, last chance to back out now. There will be spoilers from here on out, and if you want to go into the new season as blind as possible, I suggest clicking away.
Tumblr media
"Separate Tides": Not a big plot that I consider worthy of opening the season. We got some classic Luz guilt that makes so much sense at this point, but from the sounds of it, it sounds like the premier could be more potent. But that's just from reading the synopsis. It's still a while before it comes out, and who knows? Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised.
"Escaping Expulsion": Now, THIS is more along the lines of what I'm expecting. Huge stakes are set, even higher so, by how this could negatively affect Amity's relationship with the group. What I'm curious about is what deal Luz makes? My guess is that it's either a duel between someone from the Blight family (not necessarily Odalia and Alador) or Luz sacrificing her own education for her friends. Either seems plausible to me as it fits with how reckless and selfless she is. As long as it doesn't end with Amity suffering because of it, I'm all for this episode.
"Echoes of the Past": Huh. So, apparently, we really are going to get some King backstory after all.
Ok. I'm all for it.
What intrigues me are two things. First, there's the inclusion of Lilith. To me, this somewhat confirms that she's going to be a part of the Owl House crew in order to redeem herself, much like we all predicted. The second is Hooty...Why Hooty? How Hooty?
Guess that's a question that will be answered when the episode actually comes out.
Tumblr media
"Keeping Up A-fear-ances": What interests me is the mentioning of one of Eda's family members. Because since it's confirmed that Lilith will be around by episode three, why point out how it's a big deal that she's coming to visit? I like to think it's someone else, like a cousin, a secret sibling, or even a parent. I mean, what else could cause plausible trauma for these mammas...And King?
"Through the Looking Glass Ruins": I won't lie, I have no interest in Gus' story here. And before you say anything: No, I'm not a racist. And no, it's not because I'm obsessed with Lumity...Ok, it's a little because of that. But mostly because I don't care as much as Gus making friends as I do about Luz and Amity going on another solo adventure. Probably even in the same library that jumpstarted their friendship in the first place. I'm excited about any development our favorite illusionist gets. However, if you ask me, it's more of a "Senses and Insensitivity" situation: An entertaining enough A-plot with a much more memorable B-plot.
And those are the confirmed episodes for now. "For now" being the keywords there. As for the new secret message, we got nothing so far except "Seek T--" Whatever this means, we'll just have to wait and find out.
I am equally excited and terrified for what Season Two has to offer, and I will see you all on June 12th.
Now, if you don't excuse me, all this news/hype has got me lightheaded, and I'm about to pass out any secafhndifhkjabiaerwhtiufrsdfhuhaewodfhiuewfhwerh9eofwe9ho

My brain came up with the pre-emtive theory that the reason–besides plot reasons–that the golden gaurd has an owl mask, besides him potentially being a clawthorne, is to possibly tie a parallel to Eda.
Okay so to list off the parallels, they're surface level so far, but they feel intentional, he has the owl mask, he's a genius teen prodigy, his brand of unique while definitely his own thing is kinda giving off eda vibes. He's also lazy much like eda as shown in the drawing of him with kikimora.
And let's not forget the "bye!!!" Thing that was done by both of them in the same episode, and early last season by eda too, proving this isn't some coincidence, it's an intentional detail that the writers want you to pay attention to.
Now, he's also different to eda. Morally, he's..Not great. He's a kid who has no problem giving gruesome deaths to people while completely blaze. He works for the emperor, and is from what I can see so far, loyal to him.
Because the golden gaurd is only sixteen, I'm putting this down to brainwashing. He's clearly desensitised to how fucked up the coven is.
Because we don't know much else about him, including his actual name. The rest of this is mere guessing and the result of too much time on my hands.
So anyway, the reason I think he's going to be a contrast to young Eda and not old Eda is that the current Eda has alot of history behind her at this point, and the message I'm trying to focus on is potential.
Young Eda was a genius teen prodigy. There's no disputing that, she was gonna graduate at sixteen(the same age as goldy bio leading the emperors coven now) this means she would've skipped two years at the max and would've been shooting straight into the emperors coven where with her brains, raw power and skill would've probably reached goldie Bois position fairly fast.
Things didn't turn out like that though for a number of reasons. One. Eda was cursed, limiting her magic use and leaving her ostracised. And two, she hates authority and denounced the coven publically at around his age. Something happend to sixteen year-old Eda for all of that brain washing that all the other kids her age were facing to be pealed back enough for her to take a leap of faith and not join a coven.
I think this might have something to do with the illegal history book she seems to own and the portal which she did have at that point as shown in one of the trailers.. she got exposed to the truth, if even just a sliver and could never turn back.
Eda's life took a drastic veer away from her peers and her own sister.
Now, about gold boi, he seems to live in the castle from what Dana's drawing implies, he orders Kikimora around so he can slack off(showing he also doesn't take the job to seriously like a hypothetical young Eda wouldn't have either). The emperor gives him special treatment from what we heard from Lilith and that is proof. If he's leading the coven, than its safe to assume that Lilith would've been killed for even daring to pull that kinda stunt.
I'm gonna assume. And this is only an assumption since I've only seen the first two episodes, but I think he was actually raised in the castle for this very job. Or for something atleast. Maybe a successor.
Natural talent snatched up at a young age and heavily brainwashed, far more than the other kids his age, (because he would be that close to the emperor/there also the chance he knows the titan thing is bulshit and is loyal to belos out of familiarity.)
Again. Speculation and guessing.
But what I'm trying to say is that young Eda and him are so similar in their feel, but there's this cold devide that separates them.
Young Eda was and is a violent, mischievous trouble maker, but I doubt she's a killer. Eda only lashed out to kill in ybos and agoaw because of extreme emotional distress she was in. Call it temporary insanity after her world had crumbled down around her.
Goldie kills because its his job. And while he does subtly warn Luz and eda to stay out of trouble for their own good (I think this implies there's a bit of good in him under all that) it's hidden under arrogance(another trait both versions of Eda have) making Luz react negatively to him.
He's also clearly terrifying to grown witchs that have to deal with him (because he sends the emperors threats and warnings and could probably fuck their shit up in a second.) Call him a messenger of death and other bad news.
I'm just gonna remind you again he's sixteen.
He's obviously his own character but he already feels like a reminder that if Eda had been born under different circumstances, if something happend along the way or if she was snatched up by the emperor like I'm guessing goldie was we'd have a more morally iffy Eda if that's even possible.
She wouldn't have had her sister to look out for and be looked after by. She wouldn't have met these mysterious friends of hers that I think played a crucial role in what she became. Idk.
This is an unstructured mess and I hope you're as confused as I am. I've suffered through this for a week. But its your problems now.
