Alright. I've rewatched the trailer like 20 times by now and i've been processing it.

First things first: anyone that's gonna talk shit about Gordon Cormier is gonna have to go through me first. I've only had Gordon!Aang for a day and a half and if anything happens to him i'll kill everyone here and then myself got it?

Just look at him! This is the exact big eared cute little kid i wanted them to cast for Aang. He looks adorable and honestly his outfit is growing on me.

The glowing arrow looked cool as hell. I like that the light spread through his tattoo almost like veins. I'm still curious on how the full avatar state is gonna look, how they're gonna get the glowing eye effect. Please don't let it look goofy.

Y'know what does look goofy?

Is it better than the m night shyamalan appa? I guess. Does that mean it looks good? Well.... at least momo sort of looks cute instead of some folklore nightmare like in shyamalan's version. But also you can tell in this shot in particular that it's very green screen-y

Then we go over to the bending, the limited shots we have of it. Mainly firebending was shown (a little airbending too but kinda hard to get a stillframe for that one)

Idk how to feel about it. In screenshots it looks alright but the shots while they were moving looked a bit off, especially the one where zuko's kicking. We only got very limited shots and that's intentional. I feel like the bigger cgi fails are gonna show up once we get the full show. If the bending looked good all the time i feel like they'd be showing it off by now.

What i don't like, is how apparently they're gonna SHOW Zuko getting burned. Like sure in atla they didn't bc kids show and Nickelodeon wouldn't allow it, and netflix can take darker turns if they so please. But i personally always felt that scene made so much impact because we didn't see it. Iroh is telling it from his memory and he didn't look when it happened, so we don't see it either. It's like a courtesy the show extends to both Zuko and the audience. We just hear the harrowing scream, and that's enough to know how devastating it is. I don't need a dramatic overlook so we can see the whole thing in detail, netflix.

Another thing is the hair in some scenes.

Daniel dae kim looked better in that promo photo, bc here you can just see how the bulky goatie was glued on. And then Sokka's hair..... where's the ponytail? It's laying completely flat against his head... why? Is it bc that's Ian's hair and they didn't know what to do with it? Literally get a comb and tease that bitch. This is like the complete opposite of Jackson Rathbone's hair in the shyamalan version, and somehow that full maybelline ponytail makes more sense than this sad excuse of a tail. Either way at least Suki looked dope.

Another thing i found weird about the trailer is the narration. I think it's either Iroh's voice or maybe Gyatso's? (I haven't heard Iroh's actor talk yet so idk, but it felt like it was being said TO either Aang or Zuko) but the lines they gave him... it felt like some weird mumbo jumbo tbh. Something something about the past and present being the same and it's up to us to know the difference and be the difference? It's saying everything and nothing at the same time and it felt kind of out of place. They're probably saving the iconic opening narration done by Katara for the full trailer (i hope???) but still they could have just gone with music, or maybe just a few iconic existing lines?

The music? Fire. Nothing needs to be added there. Was i kind of hoping for a different soundtrack? Maybe a bit. But am i mad? Not at all. They clearly took the nostalgia route with the more epic version of the avatar theme, and i can only respect them for that.

So far, very mixed reviews for me. I'm morbidly curious and very nosy by nature though, so i'm absolutely watching.

Gepard Landau: Is so happy and excited that his baby is almost here, but also, so so SO very anxious. And now you’re 9 months pregnant, and he doesn’t exactly know what to do to help you along. He’s very soft and gentle with you, always eager to get off work as early as possible so he can come see you and his baby-to-be. You know that idle animation of his where he attempts to sing? Well. He TRIES to sing to his baby sometimes at night, even if he doesn’t sound that great it’s so cute and sweet that he’s doing his best. His anxiety really kicks in now that you’re 9 months pregnant. You’re laying in bed when you suddenly hear: “do you think the baby will like me?” and you can’t do much but roll your eyes and say, “yes, Gepard, I think the baby will like you.” When he felt his baby kick for the first time, oh the poor man burst into tears. It’s just…suddenly so real. That soon he would be having a child with you… Imagine, slow dancing in the kitchen with Gepard, 9 months pregnant with his baby.

Sampo Koski: still doesn’t really Want to have a baby, but there is a sort of pride in seeing you pregnant with his child. He’s gentler on you, now that you’re 9 months into your pregnancy, and the reality is really setting in that he’s having a child with you. He tries to be gentle, he lets you hold his hand when you’re feeling pregnancy pains and stuff, and he must admit it’s charming to watch you try to do chores around the house while being 9 months pregnant. Don’t worry, he’ll take care of them. He wishes you’d actually Trust him a little more, though he does understand why you wouldn’t. The first time he felt the baby kick was by complete accident. He had rolled over in bed, and wrapped an arm around you and suddenly he felt the little kick of the baby. He unwrapped his arm from around you, (which made you a little bit sad tbh) but the sensation remained. It wasn’t….that bad actually. But it’s weird to accept that you’re growing a Life inside of you now because of him. Imagine, Sampo just…helping you around the house. Doing your chores, making you dinner, helping you sit down and get up from places. A true gentleman, even if he’s hesitant about becoming a father.

Luocha: the man practically puts you on lockdown, haha. He has you on a strict routine of medicines and exercises that are supposed to help you with pregnancy pains. He IS a doctor so you know you can trust him. But sometimes you wish he’d let you out of the routine a bit so you can do other stuff like chores or making dinner. But no, he’s insistent he does it all for you, and that you should only focus on taking care of yourself. He’s very strict about it. But he’s also very kind and loving and understanding towards you. He gets it when you need to skip your exercises a day or something like that. You’re absolutely not allowed to skip your medicine though! He takes you to work with him when he can, as long as you can sit in the shade and watch him work. He likes having you with him so he can keep his eye on you. Call it a doctorly instinct of his to want to supervise you constantly. Imagine Luocha, giving you your daily checkup, his hands trailing down your stomach, feeling your baby kick, and concluding that they’re happy and healthy.

Blade: Blade is not a gentle individual. He’s not used to even touching you, let alone touching you while you’re pregnant with his child. So he just doesn’t. But he’s very very protective of you, especially around the other Stellaron Hunters. Expect him to stay close to you, following behind you like a shadow as you waddle along and go about your day. If he sees you struggling with something, like a chore you used to be able to do, he’ll step in and do it for you. He doesn’t talk much during your pregnancy. Just observes you quietly, keeping an eye on you. The other Hunters aren’t allowed near you. Blade makes sure of that, he even defies Kafka to keep you safe from them. He wishes he wasn’t so…uncomfortable with physical touch, especially when he sees you struggling to get up from couches or out of bed. He wishes he could help you but he just can’t bring himself to touch you. So imagine the day when you wake up, and Blade quietly asks if you’d like help getting out of bed, reaching out his hand, and offering it to you.

BAD JOKE HEADCANONS (GEMS X FEM! READER/PLATONIC)

warnings: mentions of poofing, ptsd

backstory: y/n is still a “new” gem only emerging from the ground about thirteen years prior to meeting the gems; however, almost all of that was spent in a bubble after being poorer by their original group of gems. some old homeworld loyalists that came to earth to hopefully “defeat” the crystal gems.

ROSE QUARTZ

- she feels SO bad

- rose was very patient with y/n after finding her so she knew about her boundaries and physical touch being a huge one

- so when she came up to her and just hugged her she knew something was wrong

- even if it was silly, she knew that y/n didn’t yet understand jokes and took everything quite literal

- comforts them by letting them cry and just being so understanding

- “take your time y/n. it’s okay, i’m here. don’t worry. amethyst was just teasing.”

- once she’s calmed down she explains that pearl said it as a joke mostly out of annoyance. she meant no actual harm

- brings her back to the temple to help her talk to amethyst about why she can’t joke like that

- even brings pearl over to have her assure y/n she would never do such a thing

- rose just wants y/n to know she’s safe with the crystal gems

- 10/10 very very comforting

GARNET

- y/n came running up to her while she was in the bubble room

- she knew it was serious because it was a place y/n tended to avoid because of what happened to her before they found her

- she just clings onto garnet crying about how amethyst told her pearl was going to poof her if she wasn’t a good crystal gem

- garnet seen it in a very unlikely reality so she was surprised that it actually happened

- garnet kneels down with y/n and just consoles her by petting her hair

- y/n can’t help but hold onto garnet for protection

- “amethyst was only joking. i predicted no real danger in your future. i understand your fear, but i assure you y/n. you are in no danger here.”

- ruby was a bit annoyed at amethyst as she knew fully well what you went through, but felt nothing wrong with her joke

- sapphire knew it was just a off handed comment to rile y/n up during a training session

- “take your time y/n. i know the thought of being poofed is traumatic. you have nothing to be ashamed of. i’ll make sure amethyst apologizes. it wasn’t right of her to say that.”

- pearl is even shocked amethyst says that

- promises she would never ever

- allows y/n to stay close by her side for a while even after amethyst apologizes

- 20/10 i love my red and blue moms

LAPIS LAZULI

- while lapis wasn’t one for touch either, when y/n came barreling into her arms she knew something serious happened

- it wasn’t unlike her to not take things very seriously, but she could tell that y/n was terrified

- “hey, what happened?”

- she honestly doesn’t know how to react much

- when y/n explains it lapis was so annoyed at amethyst

- “don’t worry. pearl won’t do anything. amethyst is just being mean. don’t let her get to you.”

- “but why would she say that?”

- hearing y/n cry broke her heart tbh

- “who knows. amethyst is weird. just ignore her like i do, but if her or pearl do every try anything don’t hesitate to come to me. i won’t let them do anything i promise.”

- after all y/n was just a terrified gem like they once were

- convinced them to calm down by just continuously promising she was strong enough to protect both of them (which she definitely was)

- 9/10 a bit awkward at first but great after

PERIDOT

- peridot had no idea what was happening when y/n just straight tackled them while bawling her eyes out

- “uh did you know you’re crying?”

- “amethyst said pearl was going to poof me if i acted up or misbehaved! they promised me they were different! they all said they were nothing like the agates!”

- y/n cries while holding onto peridot

- she may be awkward, but she knew you were genuinely scared

- holds her slowly so she doesn’t flinch and let’s y/n cry

- “i’m sure that clod amethyst was just playing one of her pranks. she never does know when to stop. i mean, you know earth gems. they’re all so rowdy.”

- tries to console y/n as best she can

- “the pearl wouldn’t poof you. if anything she’d want to poof me. besides steven wouldn’t let that happen.”

- her awkward jokes and stiff touch kind of do cheer y/n up

- “why would amethyst say that though? that’s so mean!”

- “amethyst also eats dirt and old dumpster donuts. i wouldn’t worry about her too much. besides. us two are much more superior gems! she’s probably just jealous.”

AITA for just trying to get my fucking jewelry back??

So for context, I (M, age not relevant) am a metalworker. I make my own utensils, decorative weapons, jewelry etc. I'm not a professional, but it's a fun hobby and I've made some decent money off of it in the past. Anyway, a while ago I made a set of rings for a bunch of coworkers (pretty simple, nothing too fancy) that I wanted to give them during a Christmas party at work. Now, I also happened to be wearing my own ring that I'd made for myself months earlier, not even thinking too hard about it I just felt like wearing it that night. This is important.

So I gave everybody their rings and they seemed like they all liked them and weren't ungrateful or anything, but when they saw the ring *I* was wearing, a few of them started getting weirdly passive aggressive about it?? Like, yes, it's probably worth more money than the ones I made for them. Yes I put more time into it. But it was a while ago (before I had the idea to give them rings) and I made it for me, there shouldn't be anything wrong with that? So anyway this one guy was really harping on and on about it, and everybody started arguing saying that not only shouldn't I have worn my ring that day, but I shouldn't have made it in the first place? Like seriously am I not allowed to wear *my own* jewelry??? But they said it "wasn't fair" for me to have one that was "better" than theirs.

Things got a bit heated after that, there was also a bit too much alcohol going around at that point and I'm embarrassed to say me and that one coworker got into a bit of a physical fight over this stupid ring. Not anything serious (and tbh I don't remember the details too well), but I think at some point he somehow stole my ring?? Bc the next morning I couldn't find it anywhere. I tried to confront him about it but he's gone AWOL and nobody knows how to contact him. Later though, I saw it mentioned on this really weird guy's IG page and it looks like *someone* sold it to him. Or possibly he stole it?? It's kind of unclear. So I tried to contact him and it's been radio silence. I keep trying to track this thing down, my buddies (non-work related) are helping me out but nobody knows where the fucking ring went.

My other coworkers are still pissed AT ME and think I should just drop it, that it's not worth the hassle. But I'm pretty sure they're still just jealous. It's been like 6 months at this point and I just want my ring back, it was one of my favourite pieces. AITA?

I wanna see Reiju x Tashigi headcanons from you! I actually think they are pretty cute, the Princess of Germa falling in love for a pretty marine woman

I think they're pretty cute too!! I love them!! That color spread rewired everybody's brains, I think 🩷🤍🧡

I am so so so weak for princesses falling for people they shouldn't. Reiju is the perfect golden daughter, mostly to avoid issues with her dad and because she settles with her position as a Germa member instead of looking for what she wants. And she's fine with that. She's ""mature enough"" to know that as the oldest she should be the one taking care of her (even if awful) brothers.

I mentioned this in another post but the thought of Reiju knowing she's a lesbian but never acting upon those feelings and setting them aside because she's a warrior and a woman and I am so sure Judge has the "you have to give birth to my grandchildren" mentality. And tbh she doesn't really want to have children because she feels she will never be able to be like Sora and is afraid she might end up hurting them if she raises them in that environment. But little tiny headcanon (that will be important later for Tashigi) Reiju finds out she actually can't have children after all the modifications and Judge blames her and she actually has an awful time because maybe she did want children. At least she wanted to choose. Whatever.

As to how they meet, I am not that sure. But it isn't that weird that the marines go to the Germa kingdom. Judge probably suborns all of them, ngl. Not Tashigi, though, of course. But it's not like she can do anything about what Judge does yet. But to go directly to the headcanons, yadda yadda yadda Judge makes Reiju talk with Tashigi yadda yadda yadda it's noticeable she's trying hard to force Tashigi to get out of there before anything happens to her even if she's just constantly teasing and threatening her. Typical "I know you're only threatening me because your father told you, you can get out of here with me" vs "I am fine here, this is my true nature (nope) and you should go before I have to kill you".

I actually really want them to have a whole night for themselves and fall for each other kind of right away? Not really right away but there is something between them and they can feel it. And maybe in the future Reiju can sneak out during her missions to see Tashigi and be a little bit annoying (because she misses her and wants to see how she's doing but won't stop teasing her) while Tashigi tries to make her open up and convince her to escape with her and just... Turn in her family. But Reiju has this mentality of "if I turn them in you have to capture me too because we're the same" and also her oldest sister feelings.

So they have this back and forth relationship in which Reiju won't stop teasing and sometimes opening up and Tashigi won't stop discovering and seeing more and more about her. While Reiju starts falling in love (something she was never allowed to do and still feels like she shouldn't be doing) when she sees Tashigi's kindness (kind of resembling Sora's) and Tashigi just knows Reiju has that kindness within her too. Going back to the children again, at some point Reiju meets the Punk Hazard children being with Tashigi and she just looks so nurturing and sweet with them and Tashigi can't help but just knowing she has a good heart.

And it's also the perfect moment to mention Sanji (without actually saying his name). It's just Reiju saying she misses him and Tashigi seriously thinks at first that she's talking about him like that because he died, but she can see on Reiju's eyes that there is more to that.

I really want to get into simple, generic headcanons now so:

Reiju is always taking off and stealing Tashigi's glasses because it's just fun for her to see her fall and catch her

Reiju sees Tashigi fight/on serious mode and it honestly makes her feel things she has never felt before

Tashigi thinks Reiju is extremely experienced when it comes to dating and sex because look at her but she actually has never been with a woman because she has only had to use her seduction on men. So they're both equally nervous even if it isn't that noticeable on Reiju

Reiju finds so admirable of Tashigi that she goes all the way to fight for what she thinks is right and wishes she could do the same. But she's constantly trapped on the "I'm a Vinsmoke" mindset

Tashigi takes care of her and erases that mindset at some point with so so much comfort and gentleness Reiju has never felt before (I think Reiju deserves to cry and be vulnerable too btw)

Constantly teasing each other and it's so much fun when Reiju wants to be the most flirty and Tashigi ends up flirting back and damn she was not expecting that but she likes it

AGHHH I can't stop thinking about Reiju just admitting and accepting she'll have to get married at some point to a man and Tashigi being so furious about it. Imagine these two dating in secret for a while and just-- Tashigi promising they'll be together and get married or whatever and Reiju letting herself dream for a while about it

"I love you" / "It'll pass" or something like this

Again with the dangerously yours quotes but the whole "If I betray you, I betray myself. If I betray them, I betray my family. My brothers are very dear to me" / "Dearer than I?" feels like something they'd go through

This got angsty- Just imagine Reiju like "Nooo this food was definitely poisoned so sad mmm I will have to kiss you now I guess!!" and it's just an excuse to make out with Tashigi but Tashigi is actually freaking out until she realizes she's just flirting

Tashigi rambles SO MUCH about swords and Reiju loves every second of it because she looks so genuine and excited...

And Reiju actually does listen to everything Tashigi has to say and Tashigi has never felt so appreciated...

Smoker knows his girl is in love but he does not want to know shit about it so he pretends he doesn't know about Tashigi and Reiju's calls in the middle of the night. But Tashigi does look happier and more inclined to work even harder so that is a win for him

Suddenly Tashigi knows a lot about poisons and she says some fun fact about them and Smoker goes "??? Since when are you so into this??" and she gets all nervous and anxious and says she read it in a book

Same with Reiju. Her brothers see her happier and want to tease her about it and her secret but she has been more gentle and motherly to them so... They've been acting softer... Kind of. For some reason they like seeing her happy and they're still trying to figure out why

I honestly think Ichiji is the only one who actually knows about the whole thing but doesn't say anything about it as long as it doesn't affect them

Reiju likes dressing up Tashigi with her dresses because she likes seeing her I classy clothes (and then taking them off but that's another story)

Same thing with Tashigi btw she likes seeing Reiju with her hair messed up and just t-shirts because she barely sees her in a genuine, comforting way

I actually do have more ideas about them because they're making me go insane but... I think this is enough for this post. They're so,,, Cute,,, And I adore them. Let Reiju be free please please please 🫶🏻 So she can date her beautiful, nerd, marine girl 🩷🩷

if you want to make good fried rice, you have to leave it alone.

like, sure you can use two different kinds of soy sauce if you want (double black soy sauce, for example, tastes like molasses and is delicious) but that won't make your rice taste like fried rice.

no, the secret to that is...well, inaction.

allow me to explain:

so, let's say that you've got some day-old rice. because yeah, that's the best way to make fried rice: with leftover rice!

(if you forgot to make rice the day before, you can also just make rice, spread it out on a cookie sheet, and let it dry out for a bit. maybe pop it in the fridge for an hour. will it be the same? no. but it will be better than fresh rice!)

anyway chop up an onion and some veggies or w/e, and fry them up. (I like to add the garlic last because otherwise I will burn it, and I don't want that to happen.)

when your veggies are cooked up, tip in the rice and stir it around a bit, and then pour in your soy sauce and stir it a couple times.

and then...

...just wait.

no, it'll be fine. I promise.

if your pan is seasoned enough, you'll be fine.

so just wait. for a minute or so.

just a bit longer!

okay, now! stir it or flip it whatever. use your utensil of choice on it.

is the rice crispy and a little bit brown on the bottom?

if not, that's okay! just try again, but leave it for longer this time!

(it takes a little experimenting to figure out how long to let the rice sit in the pan so that it's crispy but not burnt, so don't feel bad if you can't get this the first time! but once you do get it...just you wait...)

when your rice does look somewhat crispy, success!

now repeat that a few times, stirring and then letting it sit, until most of the rice is crispy and a little brown, and you will have achieved the real secret ingredient of fried rice: frying

next: egg. you can scramble this separately, but tbh I'm lazy, so shove your rice over to one side of the pan, crack an egg into the empty spot it left behind, and scramble it.

let the egg cook pretty much completely before using your spatula or w/e to cut it into smaller bits and mix it with the rice, or it'll get weird, and not in a fun way. you don't want it to look like a rice omelette, with the rice glued into place in the egg. no, you want the egg to be woven through the fried rice like a delicious tapestry.

once you've reached this point: congratulations! you've done it.

so when people say, "you're telling me a shrimp fried this rice?" you can tell them, "no, I did. I did it myself!" ⭐

tips & tricks:

⭐ I use vegetable oil, but you can also use peanut or sesame oil. I'm not a fan of olive oil for this because it burns easy, but if you want to take that risk, that's on you. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

⭐ frozen veggies are great for this! I get a bag of frozen mixed vegetables at walmart for cheap, and that lasts me a while! but when you cook them, make sure to let the extra liquid evaporate off before adding the rice, so you don’t get soggy rice.

⭐ at different points in my life, I have done the two-soy-sauce method, because I felt like it. but tbh, I've also just used a bunch of packets leftover from takeout, and it turned out fine. so, live your own life. be yourself.

⭐ a wok is better for this than a frying pan, but a big frying pan will still work okay. just be careful or you'll dump rice everywhere.

⭐ I'm not providing amounts here because I don't measure things when I cook. you have to open your heart and let your soul guide you. and then when your soul is wrong, you have to tell it to think about what it's done, and try again later.

Very similar in many ways to most of the other adults during this time, especially Otto Hightower. I think in many ways, he’s kind of an echo of Tywin here - he’s trying to prove that the Velaryons are worth just as much, that they’re just as Valyrian, just as special, just as ~chosen by the narrative~ as the Targaryens are. [not quite a sidebar but - while I do think Aegon makes all the right choices in his initial conquest of the seven kingdoms, I think the Velaryons resented not being made a powerful, Paramount house in their own right. Installing them as overlords for the Riverlands or the Reach would be a bad idea the same way that both conquests leaving a Tyrell in Sunspear to help take over is a stupid, malicious idea that probably made both wars worse bc it pissed Dorne off. AND YET. they’re a valyrian house! one of the last lines of valyria left!! but all they have is driftmark!!!! i do think this sticks in their collective craw a bit but it seems to especially bother Corlys!]

I say “family” and not “blood” because Corlys is clearly willing to stretch the definition of “family” if it means he gets continued access to power. It’s why he is extremely forgiving in the Laenor/Rhaenyra marriage - I do think he realizes to an extent that he put them both in a weird situation and is willing to look past it a) because looking past it gives him access to power b) because Rhaenyra didn’t do it to sleight him, as shown by her friendship with Laena & the betrothals of their children and c) he grows to genuinely love and care for Jace & Lucerys, and probably Joff as well. There is that theory that it was Corlys who killed Harwin & Lyonel and I think it has its merits! Despite his affection for the boys, I do think he takes insult at the way Harwin & Rhaenyra so publicly carry on - he himself has a long(ish) standing love affair that he keeps hushed up and I imagine he felt Rhaenyra should be more discreet, and was insulted when Joff was born because like, you already have an heir and spare stop cuckolding my son jfc. Do I think he actually killed Harwin? Eh, up in the air about it tbh (seems more Viserys’ style if I’m being honest) but I can absolutely see the justifications he’s making here that Jace & Luke are necessary sacrifices of his pride but Joffrey is a step too far.

Now, while I put “keep his family safe” first because I DO think it comes first, notice I used “safe” and not “happy.” He doesn’t give a shit if they don’t like his decisions but Corlys does actually keep an eye on all his kids to make sure they are not being harmed. He doesn’t just wash his hands of Laena when the sealord he betroths her to turns out to be a dud, he actively puts off the marriage, and allows Daemon to get involved. He turns against Rhaenyra when Addam and Alyn are put at risk, then turns against Aegon II, even making the extremely risky move to kill the king, in an attempt to protect Baela.

I shittalk him a LOT for completely usurping his own daughter/granddaughter as well as counseling Rhaenyra away from a more proto-feminist stance, but I have to commend him here the way I do the Tyrells. Aegon II has gone mad with grief over Sunfyre, he’s probably in a lot of pain, high off his ass, we get that convo about him taking the black so he’s also running out of steam, which makes him erratic and dangerous, and he turns all of those built up feelings on Baela (if there isn’t snot and tears and spit dripping down both their faces when he takes her to the block in the show i’m suing!!!). Corlys attempts to calm Aegon but when it reaches a certain point, he doesn’t dick around trying to rationalize with an irrational person when it comes to the safety of his granddaughter - he just fucking offs the problem. Power and the Throne mean little and less if his entire family is dead and he knows this. It doesn’t mean he’s not willing to gamble, not willing to force his kids into shitty situations, not willing to usurp his own fucking granddaughter because a son is worth more, but in the end, Corlys really does love his family. It’s why he rages when Rhaenys dies. It’s why he’s devastated when Jacaerys dies. Corlys is very much A Man Of Westeros but in conversation with others like Tywin, Ned, Doran, Jon Arryn, Robert, etc., Corlys is willing to admit when he’s in over his head, grab his family, and get the fuck out of dodge. We are scraping the bottom of the barrel here on what a good father means, but well, that’s Westeros!

You had clung to every bit of hope that you would be able see your childhood best friend, Johanna, again.

So, it was unsurprising that you found yourself at her doorstep the moment you’d heard she came home from the Capitol. You paused for a moment as a thought crossed your mind: She had said you couldn’t be friends for the time being, after President Snow’s threats to murder the tributes family and friends. But he was dead now, so that shouldn’t matter, right?

You were quickly pulled from your thoughts at the sound of the door opening and you felt yourself being pulled into an embrace by Johanna, neither of you speaking for a while until you broke the silence and pulled away.

“You said we couldn’t be friends again unless Snow was dead. And now…Well, he is. So..?”

She replied only with a nod and a small smile.

After a couple of weeks of you two talking again, you started noticing changes in her behaviour that you hadn’t noticed before. The way that she was so protective of you, and had a soft spot for you that she didn’t seem to have for anyone else. She also let her guard down around you, allowing you to comfort and reassure her, even when she would wake up screaming from the nightmares caused by the games, she wouldn’t refuse your company despite her cold demeanour.

You knew something was off when she pulled you aside to talk to you out of the blue, wondering if something had happened again filled your mind with dread but when you saw that she seemed calm, you relaxed.

“I have to tell you something.”

Johanna said in a lowered voice and sounded a little hesitant, biting at her lip nervously but trying to still sound unbothered and cold.

“I’ve had feelings for you. Since we were kids. I still do now. I just…Thought you should know that.”

She added before trailing off, and looking away while trying to act nonchalant, but she couldn’t stop a smile from pulling at the corners of her lips as you responded.

“I do to.”

TGCF Donghua

okay so I've been watching this shit since it was released and I'm fully enjoying waiting for the weekly episodes and I wanna rant about it because I love it so much but I do have some minor gripes

Bad chuchu out of the way first

I am not happy with how generic and unoriginal the designs for most of the supporting characters. Like yeah they still look somewhat different but when the pool of named characters will expand it will get harder and harder to tell people apart if they keep on going with this route. Almost everyone suffers from same face syndrome which I know is rampant in current anime I just wished they allowed for at least more dynamic silhouettes, hairstyles, and color palettes. It feels like a more toned down version of the character design in the manhua. Lang Qianqiu in the manhua is so easy to recognize because of his outfit and pei ming looks more like the bastard he is etc. Don't get me started on the design for Kemo, the manhua felt eh I feel like Kemo was too pretty and too slim but in the donghua its just he's a straight up orc idk, i feel like they could've done better. Pei Su looks very generic, I think out of everyone he's the most generic looking of them all. SQX, Ling Wen and Jun Wu are the best designs for the supporting cast and I think Banyue is also okay looking cause you can tell her apart from the rest so far.

I am super disappointed in Qi Rong's reveal because it doesn't feel as impactful in the book. In the book the reveal of him looking like Xie Lian was so dramatic to me I was like oh my god is that his brother? A twin? a doppelganger? And then Qi Rong just kinda looks like that, tbh his voice actor and his clothes are fine I think they fit. It's just weird how he suffers from same face syndrome. If they made everyone look less like each other making Qi Rong look like Xie Lian would have been so impactful and a really cool cliffhanger but they couldn't do that because even fucking Lang Qianqiu kinda looks like Xie Lian with lighter hair. Also the Fang xin design is alright on the clothes but the mask gives off a bit cheap however I get that it can't be super detailed and it still does its job so I can handwave that small pet peeve.

Also censorship we couldn't get Xie Lian falling on Hua Cheng's lap and so them trying to make up for that was super awkward LMAO, they could have solved this by making SQX fall right on Hua Cheng's chair so that they could justify why Xie Lian grabbed Hua Cheng and throws him but they didn't... and it's so awkward...

I think it was like Episode 2 of s2 that the animation feels weird, Mu Qing's face felt off to me idk what was going on it just felt like something went down but the next episode it was perfectly fine anyway.

Positives!!!

Something the manhua didn't have was Fu Yao and Nan Feng looking a bit like each other, that was so fucking funny and it's a great display of how much they hate each other and live rent free in each other's heads ong. I love that detail the donghua did I think that's smart.

The voice actors are so great in both dubs they're doing amazing (I haven't listened to the jp dub) I have no complaints I love their work

ONE of my favorite things about the donghua is being able to see Hua Cheng's expressions even when Xie Lian is doing something in the book so he wouldn't notice. I love seeing how pleased he is every time someone points out the intimacy with him and Xie Lian. Like in season 1 when Fu Yao is shocked/horrified that Xie Lian shared a bed with Hua Cheng, San Lang puts a hand on his chin and looks so fucking smug and happy. This happens a couple times in s2 as well someone will be like oh that's weird you're so like this with Hua Cheng and he becomes a smug cat it's great.

Another one I enjoy is during the beginning of the banyue arc when Xie Lian reveals to Fu Yao and Nan Feng that he's used to sleeping in squalor the camera goes to Nan Feng not revealing his face but clearly showing his guilt over what Xie Lian reveals. That's good shit.

Lan Chang picking a fight off screen, also cool, love seeing her. I like that she looks inconspicuous so for someone who doesn't know shit about tgcf they will not see *that* shit coming.

ALSO the men look kinda generic if they're not the mls but the girls are all gorgeous???? like the woman who was Hua Cheng's speaker, the girl who led Xie Lian further into the gambling den, XUAN JI, Banyue all the girls are unique without being so ostentatious and I love them. If you put them beside each other they all look like they're own thing but still on theme. From clothes, to hairstyle and colors it's easy to tell and that's good design. I also include SQX's female form cause she's gorgeous too.

The donghua I think adds to stuff I haven't read I'm not sure if this is because I have a bad memory but I don't recall reading a flashback of Lang Qianqiu and the failed robbery. But the message of that entire section was so fucking good. The way that what Lang Qianqiu said about 'maybe he shouldn't have intervened' and the sound effects UGh. It's so good, i love how the book tackles the morality of everything, breaking down Lang Qianqiu's firm positivity and believing in humanity but still promoting being kind and considerate through Xie Lian. This theme still carries on in the show and I think they're doing a great job.

GOD THE MUSIC in the donghua is so fucking good, I love it. The songs, the meanings, the beat it's all perfect I can't say anything more.

even though i'm disappointed in the character design choices the donghua is very solid, I love it a lot. It does come off as very expositiony sometimes but I think that's very prevalent in Chinese Wuxia and Xianxia. Probably weird for people who aren't used to the genre but to anyone who's seen something like it, it's not unbearable and it's kinda necessary because of how the book is written. Waiting for wednesday patiently whilst i draw huahua

There are so many fun details the Donghua adds that shows that they know the story and where it's going as well hinting at character stuff, it's so fun to spot those. Like Xie Lian's reaction to Hua Cheng biting the bun made me wanna claw my face that shit was good af.

Here is the answer to ur question 😈

Wolverine was probably in arkham asylum because he took a wrong turn and got arrested for being a meta (preemptively since tbh I’m not to sure as to what Batman doesn’t like metas but I Imagine it has something to do with not wanting the enemies to get more dangerous/ deadlier if faced with a deadlier force)

ANYWAYS

Since he doesn’t have an ID and has not technically committed a crime, they send him to Arkham instead.

He also allows them to drag him off since he’s on a big No Kill streak at the moment, and besides, he has no where he needs to be at that point in the week

So, it goes like this:

Wolverine ends up in Arkham asylum for a week. Not fun. Even Creed felt feisty compared to the…insanity that was the villains of Gotham.

However, there was a interesting person who reminded him of more sordid, interesting villains

One Harvey Dent/ Two Face. They strike up conversation, specifically wolverine with Two Face, interested in his morals and thoughts on ‘letting loose’. He talks fondly and bitterly about a ‘Bruce’, who loves Harvey but seems to fear or be disgusted by two face, which hurts them since they love care for him

Anyways Bruce visits Harvey once a week, as he has almost every week since Harvey was admitted

But this week Two Face doesn’t want to pretend or let Harvey take the body, he's more curious and happy talking to someone who treats him like a person and not an obstacle

So Bruce decides to talk to Wolverine instead

He speaks to him, realizes that he’s used to dealing with people who are Going Through It, so Two Face’s whole “coin toss determines fate” thing is not as weird as some of the shit the Mutants at Xaviers do to stay calm or decide stuff

Anyways bruce decides he's just…some Meta, and decides to have him released

He doesn’t expect to seem him the next night prowling crime alley

Bruce is honestly kicking himself for Not Doing Research since he’s day three of no sleep and Logan hadn’t revealed his mutation more than superpowered healing

This results in Wolverine…immediately smelling that Bruce is Batman.

Also, due to his terminal Man in the Woodsy-ness, he has no idea who Bruce OR Batman are.

This obviously results in a little bit of fighting where Logan realizes that Batman is trying Very Hard to not kill him, despite being Very Violent

They Pause, chat, and Logan reveals his hero name, and his place at Xaviers

And that is their very first meeting!

I am finally done with Normal 2!! I started the original Normal in 2015 after seeing the movie for the first time, and I loved it so much! Can't believe out of all the fandoms I've ever been in, the POM movie was the one that got me writing a 119k+ fic and an entire sequel. The only other fic I wrote a novel length fic for was for Wreck-it Ralph.

Felt like writing a bit about my process behind the scenes as a way to send it off officially:

I love writing first person, especially self inserts. I can picture myself in situations very easily and my emotions tend to spill out with the perspective.

After reading my fics over a few times and reading some of my reader commentary, I've been told that my insert is "loud" and one time was told I was "obnoxious" and "mean", but tbh viewing the fic by taking a step back and re-reading made me realize this is my loud inner voice and may be attributed to my ADHD!!

Speaking of self discovery, my statements in the fic such as not being able to sweat, fainting, feeling like I might piss myself, etc were supposed to be just funny statements, but in conjunction with my discussion of my inserts "illness" I was actually writing about my dysautonomia before I actually knew what it was! I was diagnosed January 2023, so it's kinda interesting seeing my writing reflect my disability.

I am unashamed of the fact that I wrote Dailey as being a messy relationship that grew and had its ups and downs. I like angst in my ships anyway, so this one was no exception even being a self insert. Dave is a bad guy, and Kailey is, well... me, totally not perfect, weird, working with a bad guy as if she has no choice. They both did really crappy stuff, and THAT'S THE POINT!! I actually wrote a sequel because I knew the ship had a whole lot more to go development wise.

While the first fic generalized a commentary on what it meant to be "normal", when I wrote the sequel I wanted to touch base on different aspects of society, what is normalized, and what it considers beautiful. I write this in outside characters other than my insert, but it manifests in my inserts "turning into a monster" story arc. I am often alienated from being beautiful (how I dress, whether I wear makeup or not), how I behave (my ADHD, my introverted-ness, my emotional disregulation, etc.) my sexuality (I am asexual not interested in sexual relationships), and my physical disability (incapable of keeping up with what is expected of me in jobs, obligations, etc.). In the end the hope is to allow my true self to shine, hence breaking the "curse" of the Medusa Serum in the end.

In extension, my alienation and turning into a monster arc emphasized my negative emotions as being made an outsider or not deemed good enough by society, and how that brings out the worst part of you. I had this resolved by working through this in a relationship because I believe the foundation of mental well being is being part of a community or sharing your burdens with others.

When I decided to make the characters that were turned into monsters with the influence of the QCUs, I was watching Dragon Ball at the same time, and thought the scenes where Goku gets shot and just goes "Oww, that hurts!" without being hurt, was hilarious and ended up putting that trait in my fic.

I probably have a lot more facts in my head that I am not remembering at this moment but here are some of my thought processes for now! I am very thankful for all the support I had writing this fic. Dave and Kailey's story is over from a writing standpoint but I def see there being a lot of open story ideas/extras that I would love to talk about so if anyone is ever interested please shoot me an ask!

Hello! Just stopping by with a question about writing XD Do you have any characters who's role grew bigger than you expected? Any surprising changes your characters went through during the writing process?

Hi! This ask is a week old! Sorry for that!

Tbh the obvious answer would be Asha and Dora, who really began as tools to facilitate the plot and developed into major side characters with an unhealthy, self-destructive romance. I've talked about them a lot.

But this post is not about them. We all know of the war lesbians at this point.

I wanna talk about General Edward Fallin for a sec. You might know of him. I refer to him exclusively as "Theo's brother".

In the WIP that existed in 8th grade that would later become literally unrecognizable and turn into "Devourer of Souls", he was a major character and I liked him quite a lot. I felt like there was something interesting that I managed to hit with his character.

(I really wanna make a post about this proto-WIP but I keep procrastinating -_-)

From one WIP to the other, he was the one to maintain the most character traits (tbh competition is nonexistent bc they all changed so much - literally not even genders were maintained). He's always been Reiner's (part of Flick) father, Theo's brother, and a Master of the Order devoted to his work.

But he's a really minor character. He only appears in 2 scenes: one in the first half and one in the second.

Allow me to ramble about My Boy for a bit:

Ed is a bad person. He's an antagonistic force (not necessarily an antagonist) and is in direct opposition to Theo from a military standpoint. He is responsible for a fuckton of deaths and outright says he's willing to hurt people himself if it gets him what he wants faster. He denounced his own sister to the Order when they were teenagers, leading to her getting a death sentence and running away, he ordered his men to break Seth's cane in half so she literally can't run away when they capture her, and he stabbed Theo through the shoulder the first time he saw her again. He vaguely talks like a pissed-off mob boss. Good people don't do this shit.

But that's the surface-level stuff. Because once you listen to what he's saying, you start to see something else.

For an antagonist, Ed has a weirdly strong attachment to his family. And not in a weird way. When Seth straight-up asks him "why tf are you doing this" he just says "Whatever it takes, I want my children to grow up in a world without war".

He knows he's doing bad things, but he's willing to do them if it means the war will end faster and his family will be safe. His motivation is 100% to protect the people he cares about.

But I ain't no basic bitch. I'm not leaving it at that.

He feels like an antagonist because he's being seen from Seth's POV. Flick's POV is very different.

Reiner (who is part of the whole that is Flick) is Ed's youngest son, and he sees him fully as a hero, as do most people in his country tbh. He admires him, even when Allana's soul joins his because of divine fuckery (not getting into the divine soul fusion fuckery rn).

And I mean... can you blame him? Ed is a super-competent general who made his way up the ranks at a very young age, led an army against two demigoddesses at the same time and kept the upper hand, won a fight against a demigoddess and survived, was the first person to push for a (temporary) peace treaty and managed to maintain it for 20 years, and constantly does everything in his power to keep that peace in place, even going against the will of the gods themselves.

That sounds pretty heroic to me - not necessarily good, but heroic. Hell, that feels like a protagonist's storyline, almost.

im begging you to tell me about Edward John Newell & his time as an informer & his disappearance. this will be your only warning.

*Rubs my hands together* right. Edward John Newell.

Firstly, this is him (from a sketch he did of himself, which was first published in his autobiography & was later reproduced by my good friend RR Madden for his The Life and Times of the United Irishmen)

And Mr. Newell was born in Downpatrick in 1771 to Scottish parents. He was noted to be a pathological liar even when he was a child, which. tbh. almost foreshadowed his future activities. Anyway, he had a bit of a falling out with his mother in 1788, which led him to seek work as a seaman. He gave up on that because it was too uncomfortable and eventually moved to Dublin to try and find a job, but couldn't hold one down for long, and when he asked for help his parents denied it to him due to the general animosity between them and due to his support for the United Irishmen. So, he moved to Belfast in 1796, became a portrait painter (despite apparently having little experience in art), and everything swiftly took a turn.

It's not... clear when he became an informer, exactly. It's probable that it was immediately, given that he later admitted to going around dressed like a British soldier with his face painted, pointing out United Irishmen to Lord Carhampton and a group of actual soldiers. Apparently he did this a lot, because Newell claimed to have put 227 people in prison this way, and to have forced upwards of 300 people to flee from their homes for fear of being arrested. Newell wasn't necessarily very good at being a spy, because instantly his superiors in the United Irishmen noticed that he was... overzealous in a weird way... but he did manage to stay under the radar for long enough that he wasn't killed at that point.

Also important: Newell had a friend called George Murdock (or Murdoch, I've seen it spelled both ways). Murdock was the opposite of him politically and also worked for the government and I.... remember reading somewhere that he was in the Orange Order, too, but I can't recall where so I can't provide a source for it. Anyway, the United Irishmen weren't keen on Newell's friendship with Murdock, leading to Murdock's house having to be placed under armed guard lest they try to kill him, but they stayed friends.

Eventually, Edward Cooke (the spymaster for the British government in Ireland at the time, basically. horrible man) brought Newell to Dublin Castle, where he questioned Newell for nine hours. Newell was more than happy to tell him everything, and in return he was rewarded with money and the opportunity to stay in Dublin Castle to learn more about being a spy. While there, he made an absolute nuisance of himself, including shooting at a guard because the guard was slightly too slow in opening the gate for him when he returned past midnight. He also testified before the government's incredibly creatively named (/s) Secret Committee, where he talked for a long time and later admitted that he had made much of his testimony up specifically to scare the people on the Secret Committee.

Eventually, Newell... I don't know, felt bad about what he was doing, maybe? Decided that it was time to change sides again? I don't know. Either way, he asked Cooke if he could stop being a spy, and Cooke agreed to put him into what was basically witness protection, which would allow him to live in England and resume his painting career. Newell could have just taken the offer and gone, but decided, I guess, that that was not enough, and so he wrote and published a book that detailed 1. how very sorry he was for being an informer; 2. everything about his time as an informer; and 3. every single thing he had told the government about the United Irishmen.

You may be thinking "wait that sounds incredibly stupid, why would he do that," which. yeah. I'm not sure why he decided that he needed to do that either. But he did, and predictably, both the government and the United Irishmen were livid. Also, so were the Defenders, who were the Catholic sectarian murder group, because Newell had talked a lot in his book about how they were cooperating with the United Irishmen. So Newell had pissed off not one, not two, but three groups that were all completely willing to kill people to get what they wanted.

But even this was not enough for him! Because it came out with this autobiography that Newell had been having a long-standing affair with Murdock's wife. This pissed off Murdock's people, and it made Murdock so angry that he broke into Newell's room in Dublin Castle to shoot at him multiple times (no one was injured and Murdock even went to jail for a day or two). Newell was evidently very attached to Murdock's wife, which is. kind of sweet I guess. but anyway. At this point, Newell's horrified friends started trying to get him to leave Ireland by any means possible. Remember, there were now four angry groups that wanted him dead, so if he stayed it was pretty much inevitable that he would get a bullet in the head. Newell would not, however, consent to leave without Murdock's wife, who Murdock did not want to let go because y'know... they were married. Since he would not leave immediately as he probably should have done, Newell's friends convinced him to come as far as Bangor, where he stayed in an inn while they tried to convince him to leave for America.

Before I go any further, I feel like I should clarify for people who may not know--there's an important difference between killing someone and disappearing someone. If you were killed by the United Irishmen, maybe they ambush you as you're walking along the road, shoot you and leave your body in the ditch, but your body's still there, and it will be found, and returned to your family, and they know what happened to you, etc etc. But if you were disappeared by the United Irishmen, they might grab you while you're walking along the road, or show up at your house and drag you away, or ambush you at a pub--either way they take you away, and no trace of you is ever seen again. Nobody knows what happened to you, where you are, if you're dead or alive, etc etc--it's almost like you've vanished off the face of the earth. This is often considered worse than killing someone because of the lack of closure, and it's also specifically a human rights violation apart from just normal murder according to the UN.

Having said that, you've probably guessed what happened to Newell. He was at his inn one night, drinking with his friends, and he walked away arm in arm with "two professed friends" who none of my sources name, and he was never seen again. There are conflicting accounts of what exactly happened to him. One says that he was shot to death on the road and his body was buried on the beach. One says that he was thrown off of a ship that was meant to take him to America. One says that they just drowned him. Madden kind of implies that he may have been put into what was basically a saw trap and fallen down a trap door with an axe murderer under it. I've even seen it kind of suggested that hey, maybe he did make it to America after all (unlikely tbh). Whatever happened, no trace of him was ever seen or heard from again. They did later find two separate skeletons that were both theorised to have possibly been him--one under the beach in Bangor in the 1820s, another under the foundation of the house with the axe murderer hole in the 1810s. The other thing all of these accounts agree on is that the United Irishmen were the ones who did it, and that those who did it specifically were probably Newell's own former colleagues.

so confirmation that the red plants are the ones considered defective. but huh, "scheduled for disposal" - I was under the impression that they didn't have a way to get more? They wouldn't keep them around just in case?

Meryl and Roberto have good reasons for leaving, but I'm still kind of expecting it to not last very long

Also. I'm assuming this is a framing thing for the viewers, but it also kind of feels like the guy is also seeing the future here.

"Forgive us, boy." Unless he's talking about something else, this seems at odds with the priest's previous charicterization. Huh.

Oh I think I missed it, but they said something about Wolfwood retaining something, mentally, right? I should check that.

Implication that the orphanage needs to supply two kids at any given point?

And the mask on Livio is sparking blue. Looks like it matches up with whatever was happening to his eye in the flashback. (I wonder why so many have their visible technology on their heads?)

Geometric patterns on Bluesummer's arm, noted (and small book! ...actual bible?). Also is he paralleling Wolfwood and Livio's relationship and Vash and Knives'?

Are they redirecting the ship to the orphanage?? Why???

That's like the most neon I've seen on this show by far. Feels a little weird honestly.

Notably Livio doesn't seem to have emoted at all.

Uhhh general observations first. Animation in this episode was very cool as always. Background music was noticeable, but felt intentional in that.

On the symbolic stuff this episode, idk if I have enough knowledge to really speak to any of it? Bluesummer's emotions shtick seems like a personal rather than organizational thing, for one. I think Michael is an archangel, and other media I've seen them in has had them either as an authority figure or as like a high-ranking fighter. Those portrayals were also definitely taking a lot of liberties, so that further muddies the water.

No idea if "child of blessing" has symbolic meaning, but it kind of reminds me of Rollo from last episode? In the sense that they kind of undergo the same thing and also that results in a 'blessing' they don't get to experience/enjoy, potentially through their doom or demise.

I feel like I don't really have a lot to speculate on in this episode, particularly in comparison to the last. I'm surprised that Wolfwood is getting this much focus so early, let alone a two-parter mostly about him. With the reappearance of the neon desert raiders, I was expecting Meryl and Roberto to also return, but I could be wrong or it could be the next episode lol.
