WIP Tuesday
Something about Buck and Eddie hugging for the first time in like four years made me think about how affectionate Buck is and then this happened.
“Does it feel weird to you?” Eddie asked when Buck had returned with more beer. “Not weird. Different, I mean.”
“What, being with a guy?” Buck tipped his head back and forth in a so-so gesture when Eddie nodded. “Sometimes. I keep catching myself feeling like I’m not supposed to like something, and I have to train myself to stop.”
“Like what?” Eddie asked before he thought it through. He held up a hand. “No intimate details.”
Buck laughed, his entire face going pink. He ducked his head and took a sip of beer. “Well, that is part of it. But no, it’s more like…he, uh, he calls me baby. And he holds me. I don’t think anyone’s ever done that, because I’m bigger, right? And the women I’ve dated, they liked that I was bigger and stronger than they were. And I’m discovering I kinda like that too. But.”
“But it feels like you’re not supposed to like it,” Eddie said.
“Yeah. So there’s a lot of arguing with my own stupid hang-ups.” Buck sighed. “I really didn’t think I had that many. Not about masculinity or whatever.”
Eddie hummed, not quite in agreement, thoughtful. Would he feel weird about it if a guy held him? Probably a little. He wasn’t very physically affectionate at the best of times, although he found it easier after he’d been dating someone a while. Really, he’d only ever been perfectly comfortable touching a few people. Chris, of course, after the awkwardness of figuring out how to hold a baby. Shannon, when they weren’t fighting.
And Buck. He was very comfortable touching Buck, so there was at least one guy he wouldn’t feel totally weird about being held by. For a moment he imagined the two of them wrapped around each other and it warmed him so much he smiled down at his beer—he could almost feel it, Buck throwing his whole body into it and tucking his face into Eddie’s neck like he did when they hugged. But it would be longer than a hug, and they’d relax into it, breathe each other in. Breathe easier, probably, because they wouldn’t have to pull away. Buck would mumble Ten minutes until we have to pick up Christopher, and Eddie would rub his cheek on Buck’s neck and say You can fall asleep if you want to, baby, I’ll wake you up—
He just barely managed not to twitch so hard he spilled his beer.
“You okay?” Buck asked, leaning forward on his elbow and licking beer from his lips. “You were zoned out pretty hard.”
“No, it’s,” he said, looking around and patting himself down to feel for his phone, wallet, keys. “Uh. I just realized I have to go pick up some stuff for Marisol. A project. She has a project she’s working on and I forgot.”
It wasn’t a complete lie; Marisol did have a list of things she’d asked him to pick up at the hardware store, but she wasn’t starting until Saturday. Buck gave him a skeptical look like he knew her renovation schedule better than Eddie did—and knowing Buck, he probably did—but only nodded.
“See you later,” Eddie said, throwing him a distracted wave and fleeing—actually jogging, running away from his best friend, until he was in his truck and panting and shaking his head because he did not run.
Hmm. You kinda do though, he thought, and it was Buck’s voice, and he was right. He ran and would continue to run because this, this wasn’t a thing he needed or wanted. Right? Right.
But he couldn’t help but poke at it one more time to make sure.
Buck. Buck’s big body around him, his big warm hands sliding down Eddie’s back, Buck laughing against his lips, giving him every bit of his endless reservoir of affection and love. Buck loving him.
Eddie scrunched up his face and clenched his hands in the air before he smacked the steering wheel. Shit. Shit.
“Okay, it’s fine,” he said, smoothing his hands over the steering wheel like it was mad at him. Everything was fine. He didn’t have to think about it. He was in control of his own emotions. He was not a guy who was in love with his best friend. He was a guy who could compartmentalize and ignore uncomfortable things until they went away.
And eventually blew up in his face. But that was for future Eddie to handle. He had Frank and several excellent coping strategies and Muay Thai with his best friend's boyfriend who got to touch him all the time. It was fine. He was fine.

I was gonna make this post way way earlier but I forgot lol but Uhm
I have played through the splatoon 2 story fully and am replaying it (for a future post bc a lot of the dialogue is rlly funny) and honestly while I absolutely loved it it makes me even sadder that splat 2’s story mode was kinda tossed aside (for valid reasons ofc) because it’s so Cool.
Excluding the gameplay, I think they did marie so well, because she sells the desperation of someone who’s got nobody she knows by her side. While she of course keeps the sassy attitude of sneak dissing her best friends (agent 3) and also telekinetically telling you to fuck off if you talk to her too much it’s very clear she genuinely cares so much about agent 4 and is so grateful they’re doing what they do.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
these are only two screenshots of 8(?) of Marie randomly being really sentimental to 4 because this stranger chose to help her in her time of need rather than just ignore this GROWN WOMAN hanging out on a sewer drain
Tumblr media
It’s like heavily emphasized multiple times that Marie could not be more grateful for 4’s help in retrieving not just the zapfish but also her cousin.
But then revealing that 4 knew about Callie the WHOLE TIME (I have a lot to say about this part but it’s mostly hc so) which is so KIND OF THEM???? this random woman recruits them into a secret military agency and hides the fact she rlly misses her cousin but they help anyway bc they WANT TO. (They didn’t even know either of them were famous btw) Marie shows a lot of gratitude toward 4 ESPECIALLY after the big reveal.
(You could make arguments for 3 being similar bc an old kook made them do it but this isn’t about them..)
Tumblr media
And it’s not just being grateful for the one time, she genuinely enjoys 4’s company and wants to be better friends with them and chat after the zapfish and Callie are saved 😭😭😭
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s so cute too, because 100%ing the game and even just being a little nosy is something that Marie picks up on, and remembers way later in the game. (More abt this later)
god I love this socially inept squid woman and her adopted child soldier that likes finding pieces of paper
Speaking of said soldier! I think the way they characterized 4 via the actual gameplay rather than art/statements/whatever is so cool
4 doesn’t have many illustrations besides the chaos splatfest and that one group photo where they’re being funky in the corner (and the apartment) but I feel like the reason for that is the fact that a lot of Marie’s dialogue as well as how splatoon 2’s hero mode is structured/designed speaks a lot about how they wanted to represent 4.
From a realistic standpoint, of course splatoon 2’s story mode has to be more creative both prompt wise and secret wise. But it feels like the reason its that way is because both 4 and Marie are separate types of people from Craig and 3.
The bosses help a lot with this too, being more gimmicky and weird (subtracting stamp.) Octo shower and samurai being bosses where you have to either react well or change your positioning to effectively beat them. (Octo shower is my fave btw I loved fighting it the first time)
The level design also shines in this aspect because if I’m honest I remember none of the splat 1 levels significantly besides the few octoling ones. Splatoon 2’s levels are very detailed (and also insanely pretty) and have some rlly fun puzzles in a handful of them and even the more fast ones are a blast to play through
And then all the little extras (sardiniums and scrolls alike) are hidden so well and you usually have to go out of your way to find them and even the secrets that aren’t either of those things have substance
Small note, a lot of extras are also made so that it flows well with the levels design (like the first dualie request mission) which is also extremely fucking cool.
the way marie touches on those little discoveries is so smart too because it (as I said before) characterizes 4 as someone who loves to look for things even if it’s on a whim especially since the sunken scrolls in the game are so much harder to find than in splat1.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And the fact that unlike splat 1, you can (technically) 800% the game by playing EVERY SINGLE LEVEL WITH EVER SINGLE WEAPON TYPE. to me it feels like it deepens the fact that 4 likes to be really thorough. marie goes “you have a problem.” When you break like two hidden egg crates in this one level and it’s so great.
Tumblr media
I love what they’ve done with 4, whether it was intentional or I’m over-analytical.
Nothing gets past them, looking in every nook and cranny whether or not there’s secrets to be found. They’re too nosy and thorough and they like to be around marie after completing missions, they don’t know who the squid sisters are, hate balloons, may or may not be ok, have impulsive secret finding, partake in many extracurriculars, can be needy at times, go with the flow and they apparently smell better than agent 3.
Agent four, of the New Squidbeak Splatoon.

Ko-fi thank-you sentences for resplendeo; Billy and Damian and the whole soulmate thing.
Batman pulls his cowl back up, because he’s Bruce Wayne and people would recognize him if he didn’t, and Billy flees as adult-ly as possible back to the meeting room. Everyone else is still there, including a very clearly tense Robin, and Billy has absolutely no idea what to say.
“Um, so–” he tries to start, and Robin immediately bristles and draws himself up to his full height.
“Silence!” he snaps, baring his teeth at him. “I want nothing to do with you. I have nothing to do with you.”
“I mean, that’s not actually true?” Billy says, trying not to wince. “Like the soulmate thing is definitely a thing. If you don’t want me around, I understand, just first can I try to–”
“I do not want you! You are superfluous!” Robin snarls, and, well, at least Billy knows why he’s picking the specific insults he’s picking this time. Though he doesn’t really know why Robin is so convinced of that even thinking that they’re familial soulmates. What’s wrong with having more family members?
Like, ones who aren’t asshole uncles who’ll steal your inheritance and leave you homeless and destitute on the street just for kicks, he means. Obviously.
Maybe Robin’s had an asshole uncle or two in his family. Billy can understand that. But also, like . . . that’s really not what’s happening here, so . . . he really needs to figure out how to, like, spin this or something. Or . . . something.
“I would really like to talk to you first,” Billy says. “Like–just if you let me–”
“No!” Robin snaps, clenching his fists as his shoulders stiffen. “You are unnecessary and I want nothing to do with you! I have a father, and he is neither dead nor derelict in his duties and I have no desire for–Father, I want nothing to do with him, don’t give me to some other–I am your son and I don’t want a different father!”
“Oh,” Batman says quietly, and Billy cringes in guilt. Oh. Okay.
He really, really didn’t mean to make Robin feel like his dad wouldn’t want him just because he had a soulmate.
Shit.
Batman opens his mouth and starts to say something, but the speed of Mercury and also guilt gets there first.
“Please don’t freak out, I promise I’m not your dad,” Billy says with another cringe, half-covering his face with a hand, and Robin–pauses, and frowns.
“Wait, what?” Green Lantern says with a frown of his own. “You said you were the kid’s soulmate.”
“I mean . . .” Billy winces, then drags his hand down his face. “I am? Just, uh–right, okay, so I maybe kind of joined the Justice League under pretenses that in a certain light might appear to be false and I am so sorry for how weird I have made . . . literally all of this, pretty much, pretty much everything ever? Also, um. Shazam.”
The lightning hits in a blinding flash. Captain Marvel disappears.
Everyone says absolutely nothing. A whole lot of nothing.
Then Green Arrow falls out of his seat.
“Marvel,” Flash says, just staring at Billy. “What the actual, literal, entire fuck.”
“What the hell, Cap?!” Green Lantern yells. Billy, since he’s now not incapable of acting like a sassy little bastard with a heart of brass at best, just shrugs and stuffs his hands into the pockets of his hoodie.
“Should you guys be swearing in front of the children like that?” he asks skeptically. Green Lantern makes a strangled noise. Green Arrow manages to fall out of his seat again without actually having successfully gotten back into it.
“Is this your true form?” Wonder Woman asks, looking perplexed. Billy shrugs. Black Canary puts her face in her hands.
“You–you are grounded, Mister,” she says.
“No I’m not,” Billy says, making a face at her. “You can’t ground me, my parents are too dead for you to tell on me, and I’ll just Captain Marvel myself away if you try and stick me back in foster care. So there.”
Black Canary keeps her face in her hands and makes a very pained sound, for some reason. Superman looks very, very stressed out.
Robin just tilts his head, looking much less upset than before. So that’s something, Billy figures. Like, that was what he was going for here, with ‘fessing up to this and all. He really was not intending to confess to this before Robin happened.
“I see,” Robin says after a moment, narrowing his eyes assessingly as he looks Billy over. Billy resists the stupid urge to straighten his hoodie. “So you are a romantic soulmate to me, not a familial one. And you are also a nigh-unstoppable force of magic in possession of incredible godly powers.”
“I . . . technically, I guess?” Billy says, not sure how to take that.
“But you are also a literal twelve year-old,” Robin says, his eyes narrowing a little more.
“Unfortunately, yes,” Billy says with a grimace. Robin frowns.
“I really don’t know how I feel about this,” he says.

One Hour Earlier
Jake closed the door to his truck and walked up to Coyote and Phoenix’s house. They bought it during the preparations for the wedding, which definitely added to their stress level at the time, but it was nice to come home to a house that was all theirs after their honeymoon. And now Jake was reporting for painting duty. He let himself in through the side door and spotted Javy in the kitchen, putting away some random things.
“Where’s Phoenix?” Jake asked, setting his keys and wallet on the countertop.
“She went to her parent’s house for the weekend to grab some stuff and help out a bit.”
“And you promised to get a whole bunch of shit done while she was gone?” Jake guessed, gesturing to the empty boxes and random tools and materials all over the place.
“And you’re going to help me with all of that shit,” Javy replied, patting Jake on the arm. “Come on, let’s start painting.”
They walked into the spare bedroom and started cleaning out all of the shit that was shoved in there. Setting up the sheets on the ground, Javy glanced over at where Jake was pouring the paint into the tray.
“So, what’s new with you?”
“Nothing much,” Jake replied, turning back to the wall. “Just the same old shit.”
Javy nodded and stood up, fixing Jake with a knowing gaze. Javy and Jake had been best friends since the Academy and Javy liked to think that he knew Jake more than well enough to know when something was up with him. Good or bad. And Javy was very much aware that Jake wasn’t himself.
“How’s everything going with your relationship?”
“It’s over,” Jake replied simply. “And it wasn’t even a relationship.”
“What happened?”
Jake shot Javy a look, but Javy shot him one right back. Jake could play the whole nonchalant bullshit with everyone else, but Javy would call him out on it when he felt it was needed. And after seeing the change in Jake’s demeanor after whatever he wanted to call your relationship ended, Javy knew that he needed to call him out.
Jake picked up a roller and started to paint the wall in straight, even lines. Javy did the same, though he was still feeling out Jake at that moment. He usually just had to give Jake a little bit of time to think over it on his own before following up.
“And you’re okay?”
“No, but nothing I can do about it now,” Jake replied, a bit tensely.
“Did she block you?”
“No, I don’t think so,” Jake mumbled, running the roller through the paint again. “She’s been reaching out to me, but I haven’t responded.”
“Because?” Javy stressed, earning a sigh from Jake in return.
“Because what’s the point? It was never going to go public. She’d never stand up to her family about it. And we just didn’t work anymore.”
“Didn’t work with what?”
“We weren’t on the same page.”
“About?”
“For fuck‘s sake, Javy.” Jake set down the paint roller and turned to Javy, who remained calm and eyed Jake with a knowing expression. “She was acting weird before the wedding and at the reception she just blew me off, so what was even the point of all of it? It was just a waste of time for both of us.”
“Or did she hurt your feelings and you wanted to push her away to protect yourself?” Javy asked, setting down his own paint roller.
“You’re not my therapist, Javy,” Jake muttered, looking away from his best friend.
“I know I’m not. But I’m not going to sit here and tell you that you made the right choice when you look as miserable as you do.” Jake sighed and rubbed his face with his hand, causing Javy to soften a bit. “Jake, you were really happy when you were with her. And maybe you two grew apart and maybe you want different things in life and maybe I should just mind my own business. But just talk to her. At least figure out why she was avoiding you in the first place.”
“It was probably something with her brother or Mav,” Jake huffed, picking his head up more. “Or, hey, maybe she found a new fuckbuddy.”
“You don’t know any of that. And she’s not the type to play shit like that and you know it, Jake.” Coyote paused for a moment before adding, “Hell, maybe it was something with work or she’s dealing with some other issue and she wanted to figure it out first before telling you about it.”
“I just don’t know what would cause such a sudden change in her. I mean one minute she was fine and the next she just shut down.”
“You know how you’re going to find out?”
“How?”
“Talk to her,” Javy emphasized.
“I liked you better before you got together with Phoenix,” Jake scoffed, shaking his head. “You’re acting all wise now.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Javy muttered, waving Jake off. “Now, be an adult and go talk to her. And, hey, maybe in a year, I’ll be your best man at your wedding.”
“Let’s not get ahead of ourselves,” Jake sighed, getting to his feet. “And I’m holding you to it, Javy. If it’s a shitshow, you told me to start shit.”
“Get out already.”
“I’m going, I’m going.”
Jake grabbed his keys and wallet and headed down to his truck. Sliding in, Jake thought about how to proceed before just deciding to drive over to your apartment. If the two of you were actually going to have the conversation, he wanted it to be in person. And well she was also a little worried he would lose his confidence if he gave it too long to linger.
Parking in the lot, Jake spotted your car and made his way up the stairs to your apartment. He, however, didn’t recognize Emma’s car parked in the lot too. Stopping in front of your door, Jake knocked lightly and took a step back. He knew that you had a viewport and could see that it was him. Whether or not you opened the door was your choice.
The door opened a few moments later and Jake was rather quietly surprised at how shocked you looked when you spotted him. Why hadn’t you looked through the viewport before answering the door like you always did?
“Jake,” you breathed out nervously.
“Hey,” he replied softly, unable to prevent himself from frowning a bit at your reaction.
“What are you doing here?”
“I came to talk about . . . everything.” Jake paused, mulling over his words before asking, “Is this a bad time?”
“Um. . . yeah, kind of,” you responded, wincing. “My brother’s here. And Mav is on his way over here right now.”
Jake’s eyes widened a fraction but before the curse could slip from between his lips, Rooster walked around the corner.
“What’s taking so long, old—Hangman?” Bradley corrected himself, very openly frowning when he spotted his teammate in the hall. “What are you doing here?”
“Uh, he’s just here to pick something up,” you lied, turning to face your brother.
“Pick up what?”
“Uh, his . . . sweatshirt,” you decided, gesturing for Jake to come inside. “He let me borrow it at the beach when Coyote and Phoenix had their thing and it got cold.”
“And he just dropped by?” Bradley asked, staring after you as you hurried to your bedroom to grab it before shooting Jake a look. “Without your permission?”
“I told him that I was going to be here,” you snapped back defensively. “It’ll be two seconds. Calm your tits.”
Hurrying into your room, you started to dig around your closet for Jake’s sweatshirt that he gave you several months ago right before he went on deployment. You wore it on multiple occasions and by now Jake’s scent had long ago disappeared from the fabric. Meanwhile, out in your living room, Jake and Bradley were in the middle of a staring contest.
“So, you were just in the neighborhood?” Rooster asked suspiciously.
“I do live in this town too, Rooster,” Jake reminded him, causing Rooster to narrow his eyes a bit.
“So,” Emma cut in, trying to control the tension, “how have you been, Hangman?”
“Peachy.”
“Here you go, Jake,” you called, hurrying over and shoving the sweatshirt into his hands before urging him towards the door. “Well, thanks for giving it to me. For that day.”
When you were only two steps away from the door, there was a sharp knock. Cursing under your breath, you glanced at Jake to see that he looked like he was readily planning to climb out the window, before turning to the door. Letting out a breath, you opened the door to reveal Maverick and Penny standing there.
“Hey, Mav, Penny,” you greeted them, trying to act normally.
“Hangman?” Maverick asked, confused.
“Maverick,” Jake returned, his face impassive though he was sweating nervously.
“He was just grabbing something,” you cut in, talking just a little too fast. Maverick looked over at you, raising his eyebrow just a bit. “And he’s leaving right now. So, uh, bye Hangman.”
“Yeah, uh, see you around.”
Jake moved past you and he was about to walk past Maverick when the older aviator stopped him from his escape.
“Where are you going, Hangman?”
“Just heading home, that’s all,” Jake stated, turning to Maverick. Scrunching up the sweatshirt you gave him, he held it up. “I’ve got some laundry to do.”
“You’re more than welcome to stay for dinner,” Maverick offered, causing you to shake your head slightly. “And cake too, if you want. You saved my life, so it’s the least I can offer you.”
“I think he said he already has plans, Mav,” you tried to butt in.
“I’m sure the laundry can wait,” Maverick insisted kindly, though with an edge of force.
Jake shot you a slightly nervous look, to which you tried to discreetly shake your head. Penny seemed to be eyeing the exchange curiously, though you knew she sensed Maverick’s tone. You sent Jake a look to get out while he could. But then bigmouth Bradley came around the corner and decided to butt in.
“Yeah, I’m sure we can find something to talk about,” Bradley stated, leaning on the wall with his arms folded in front of him.
And Jake, sensing his rapidly approaching defeat, started to surrender.
“I don’t want to intrude—”
“—You're not,” Maverick interjected before gesturing inside your apartment. “Come on, I’m sure the food’s getting cold.”
You stood stone faced by the door as Bradley, Maverick, and Penny walked further into your apartment. Sharing a defeated look with Jake, who pulled up the rear, you shut the door and tried to calm yourself down before you turned on your heel and headed towards the table.
You found yourself sitting with Maverick on your right at the head of the table, Jake to your left looking uncomfortable as hell, and Bradley across from you with a sharp glare directed at Jake. You shared a look with Emma, who returned an apologetic grimace. Staring at the glass of wine in front of you, you simply ducked your head and stared at your plate.
“So, what caused the sudden change in location?” Maverick asked curiously.
“There was a minor problem at your place,” you replied, staring down at your plate.
“We set the oven on fire,” Bradley filled in, causing you to kick him under the table. Bradley shot you a look before turning to Maverick. “And then she threw up again and we just decided to get out of there.”
Again?
Jake glanced over at you from the corner of his eye, concern clear in his gaze. You didn’t look severely ill. Maybe a bit flushed, but not ill. So what caused you to throw up so often? And how did you just seem to bounce back if you were so sick and throwing up?
“How did the fire happen?” Maverick asked calmly, used to the back and forth between you and Bradley.
“I accidentally set the timer for too long,” Emma cut in, trying to take some heat off of you. “I walked off and it boiled over and burned.”
“Not a problem. That oven was ancient anyways,” Maverick dismissed with a wave of his hand. “I barely used it as it was.”
The family conversation continued on with an occasional pointed comment directed at Jake from Bradley, but it wasn’t too much. You seemed to be well-versed in how to deflect your brother’s questions and comments. It almost made Jake wonder why you were so cautious about him being anywhere near Rooster or Maverick with him.
“Anyone want a refill?” Penny offered, getting up from her seat.
There were a few mumbles around the table, but when Jake glanced over at your wine glass, he was a bit more than just surprised that it looked like you hadn’t touched it. Not that you had to drink the wine. But why didn’t you?
“So, Hangman,” Rooster cut in, causing Jake to turn away from you, “did you spend a lot of time together? Planning Coyote and Phoenix’s wedding and all, I mean?”
“Yeah, so what?” you snapped in Jake’s defense. “I spent a lot of time with Emma’s brother for your wedding, Bradley.”
“It was just a question,” Bradley scoffed in return.
“This is a great meal, Emma,” Penny announced louder than she needed to speak. “What restaurant did you get it from?”
“Ferrucci's down the road from here,” Emma answered, talking loud as well. “It’s really good. We should go there more often.”
“How was the wedding in your end, Hangman?” Maverick continued, getting the conversation back on track despite Emma and Penny’s attempt. “I feel like you were quite busy.”
“Yeah, I was,” Jake replied honestly.
“We didn’t see you at the after party,” Bradley added, earning a nudge from his wife.
“I was feeling under the weather. Just tired from everything,” Jake stated, staring down Bradley, not at all afraid of him.
He was slightly terrified of Maverick. But Bradley? Not even a little bit.
“Funny. That’s exactly what someone else said that night,” Bradley replied, turning to look at you. To which, you narrowed your eyes and shot your brother a warning look back. “What a weird coincidence.”
“Bradley,” you hissed, placing your hands on the table, “if you want to ask a question, just ask it. Stop being weird about it.”
“Should we cut the cake?” Emma interjected, trying to prevent a fight.
“I think we should,” Penny agreed, getting up from her seat. She called your name, causing you to look away from Bradley. “You made the cake, so you get to set up the candles and everything. Come on.”
With one last look over at your brother, you got up from your seat and walked into the kitchen with Penny and Emma. And that left Jake at the mercy of both Bradley and Maverick. Once the three of you were out of earshot, Bradley turned to Jake with a dark look.
“Are you messing around with my sister, Bagman? Because I swear to—”
“—I’m not,” Jake muttered, glaring over at Rooster. Anymore, at least. “Is that good enough of an answer for you?”
Rooster glared right back at Jake, practically screaming that no, it wasn’t good enough for him. Even though they had come a long way since the mission, it was near impossible to just get rid of years of resentment and tension in a moment. And anyone who knew Rooster well enough knew that messing around with his little sister was a sure fire way to be at high risk for getting a fist to the face.
“Bradley,” Maverick cut in, causing Jake and Bradley to turn to him, “drop it. Your sister is old enough to take care of herself.”
Maverick and Bradley had their own staring contest for a moment until Jake excused himself from the table, needing to cool down for a second. Walking down the hall and into the bathroom, Jake shut the door and let out a breath. Running a hand down his face, he sat on the toilet cover and stared at his hands.
“What the fuck did you get yourself into, Jake?” he muttered, shaking his head. “You’re a real big fucking idiot, you know that?”
Sighing again, Jake got to his feet and turned to walk out of the bathroom when he accidentally kicked the small trash can over. Cursing under his breath, Jake kneeled down and hurried to clean up the mess. Picking up a plastic wrapper, Jake was about to toss it back into the trash when he caught some of the text on it. Frowning, Jake smoothed out the wrapper to read it.
And he nearly passed out when he read the plastic cover.
Prenatal Vitamins
Well, that sealed the deal. Especially when he thought about Rooster’s comment about how you were throwing up all the time lately. And then he remembered the full wine glass in front of you at dinner. And well, three coincidences didn’t seem that likely. And he couldn’t exactly say that the two of you were extremely careful every time with any sort of conviction.
Jake sat there and just stared at the plastic wrap, his whole world just exploding in front of him.
Meanwhile, out in the kitchen and slightly hidden behind a half wall, you were holding your hands to your face, trying to remain calm while Emma placed the candles on the cake and Penny gave you a supportive squeeze.
“Hey, it’s going to be fine,” Penny whispered to you, urging Emma to hurry up with the candles. “We’re just going to eat cake and Jake will leave and it’ll all be fine.”
“Why the fuck is he here? Of all fucking days,” you cursed, letting out a breath. “And I’m going to fucking kill my brother if he keeps asking stupid questions.”
“Just hold onto those thoughts for now. Focus on getting through this dinner, okay?” Penny coached you, giving you another squeeze. “You’ll be fine. You will get through this. But it is a good reminder about some conversations that you need to have, okay?”
“I know, it’s just,” you sighed, feeling a wave of nausea hit you, “they’re all going to freak out. I know it.”
“You can’t control them. Only you. And you are holding way too much on your shoulders right now. You need to tell them. Or at least one of them,” Penny whispered, causing you to nod in return.
“I know. I’m already starting to show,” you mumbled, resting a hand on your abdomen. Letting out another breath, you turned back to Penny, “Let’s just get this party over with.”
You, Emma, and Penny walked out of the kitchen with the cake and candles all set up. Singing the birthday tune for Maverick, you sat back down in your seat. You were a bit surprised that Jake wasn’t there but he seemed to slowly make his way out of the bathroom and back to the table as the song wrapped up. You laughed and clapped with everyone else as Maverick blew out the candles, though you felt Jake’s gaze burn into your back.
“Thank you, thank you,” Maverick chuckled, waving the smoke away. “We’ll, what are we waiting for? Let’s eat cake.”
“I should go,” Jake suddenly spoke, causing everyone to turn to him. He seemed to stumble over his words for a moment before adding, “Coyote texted me. I guess there’s some problem at the house.”
“Well, we don’t want to keep you if you need to go,” Penny stated, knowing that it was best to reduce the tension in the air.
Jake bid his awkward goodbyes, almost acting like he was a puppet being controlled by some higher power before he left. He didn’t or couldn’t look you in the eye about it. Feeling a bit taken aback by his sudden change, you whipped around to shoot Bradley a death glare.
“What the hell did you say to him?” you demanded, causing Bradley to scoff.
“Nothing. Why do you even care anyways?”
“It’s my apartment. If you want to pick fights with people, do it at your place, not mine,” you deflected, causing Bradley to roll his eyes.
“Don’t mess around with him. I’m serious,” your brother warned you.
“And we’re cutting the cake!” Emma interjected, walking over with small plates.
The conversation was effectively over for now, but you still couldn’t help but let your mind wander. What the hell did Bradley say to Jake to freak him out like that?

Summer is the best thing to ever happen to mankind.
Trips to the beach, ice cream dates, late night drives, house parties, the list goes on and on. And who else to spend it with? Of course, your one and only best friend and neighbour since you were four years old, Jake Sim.
Every summer was practically filled with him and him only. Ever since you were kids, you did everything together. Writing up lists and going on adventures, spending nights watching movies et cetera. But this summer, it seemed … different.
Maybe it was the problem of being seventeen. Seventeen is an awkward age. Period. But other than that, you couldn't understand the way he was acting.
Summer always started and ended with him. Always. But this summer, he wasn't anywhere near you. Occasionally popping by and disappearing after nightfall, declining late night movies together or beach trips. Rude!
It just felt weird without him. So, you found yourself turning up in front of his house one day, tapping your foot against the hard floor as you knocked impatiently on the door.
"Y/N?" Jake appeared in front of you, his eyebrows scrunched with confusion.
“Jake,” you smiled innocently at him, which only made him look at you with more confusion.
“Y/N it’s 10 pm?”
“I just wanted to see you,” you admitted, to which you cursed at yourself for letting those words escape your lips so shamelessly because it was something you couldn’t deny.
You could see the way his gaze softened, then proceeded to let out a sigh. “Is it … because I barely hang out with you these days?”
“So, you’re self aware this whole time?” you couldn’t help shooting back, wrapping your arms around yourself as the cold wind brushed past. But even without the wind, you felt your body freezing up from the sudden burst of nerves.
“I’m sorry. I’ve been busy,” Jake frowned, guilt evident on his face. “Wanna come in, we can hang?”
Just as he finished his sentence, his phone buzzed, a notification popped up. Your eyes averted to the screen of his phone, catching a slight glimpse. “1 new message from Grace”
Your heart dropped. You knew Grace. Hell, everyone knew her, she was the cheerleader of your school after all. Miss Popular, Miss Crowned Queen. And Jake was texting her? Your Jake?
“So, Grace, huh?” Was this what he was caught up with all along? You mentally scolded yourself, wondering why you were even thinking about this when it wasn’t even your business to care about in the first place. This unreadable feeling was brewing in your stomach and you didn’t like it at all.
“It’s nothing, really. She texted me lately, that’s all,” he shoved his phone into his back pocket, giving you a reassuring smile. “Still up to hang?”
“Nah, it’s fine. It’s getting late anyway. Tomorrow?” You didn’t know why you said this. It was never too late when it came to Jake.
“Sure. I–uhm–heard there’s a party hosted by this guy called Ethan? Wanna come along?”
You considered for a moment, then nodded. “I’m down.”
“Sweet,” he flashed you that goddamned smile, the one that charmed you until you felt light headed. “I’ll pick you up tomorrow,”
“Cool,” you smiled a little, feeling the air turning still for a second once you locked eyes with him. Your heartbeat quickened, it was as though air was sucked out from your lungs and all you wanted was him.
“W-Wanna come over watch a movie with me tomorrow before the party? I’m home alone all day and we haven’t hung out properly for a while now,” Jake offered, stumbling over his words as he fidgeted his fingers, ears turning slightly pink.
You grinned. “How about the new Spiderman movie?”
He let out a small laugh, returning a big grin back. “You know me too well, huh? Deal.”
“See you tomorrow then, Jakey,” you reached over to ruffle his hair, but before you could fully pull away, he took hold of your wrist.
“I’ve missed you, can’t you stay a little longer?” he whined, swinging your arm gently.
You cursed at him, at his words and the amount of butterflies they’ve caused. “You can’t just say things like that,” you murmured under your breath.
“Hm?” he hummed and you looked up at him.
You dismissed your previous words, hoping he didn’t catch on to them. “Tomorrow we’re hanging out the whole day anyway. By then you wouldn’t be missing me anymore,”
“I miss you every day, though. Stick to my side like the old days?”
“How could I say no, Jakey?” you sighed, your heart thumping louder and louder as seconds passed. “Now, go sleep dumbass, we need to wake up early.”
“Alright, alright,” he threw his hands up in defeat. “Goodnight, Y/N. Don’t stay up too late too, or else you’ll get premature wrinkles.”
“I’ll beat you up.”
“I’d like to see you try.”
Tumblr media
It felt natural.
You were resting on Jake's chest, his arms around you, a bowl balanced on your stomach, a movie blaring in the background, the lights dimmed. It was natural.
"Peter's pretty dumb sometimes, isn't he?" You spoke up, hand reaching into the bowl of popcorn, feeling Jake's hand brush against yours to get some as well.
You tried to excuse the fact that you were about to choke at the slight contact, playing it cool as you chewed on your popcorn.
"Totally. Why would he even do that?" Jake huffed.
You looked up at him from his chest, admiring his face slightly, not even caring about what misdemeanours Peter Parker was committing.
Jake could feel you staring, and he decided to look down at you, your gazes meeting. This was what you two always do whenever you're watching movies, it should be normal by now, but why in hell were you suddenly nervous?
"Mum wants you to come over for dinner," you whispered to him, reaching up to brush a strand of hair away from his eyes.
"I'm more than glad to do so," Jake pursed his lips, watching your movements closely.
The tension seemed to grow thicker and the movie started to fade into the background as the two of you stayed in this close proximity. You unconsciously glanced at his lips, swallowing thickly once you noticed him reciprocating the same action.
"Y/N-"
"Jake!"
You almost let out a groan, but instead you looked away, clearing your throat and removing yourself from Jake's body. You were absolutely flushed, thinking of the endless possibilities that could've happened. But in the end, nothing did anyway. And that was why you were about to strangle Park Jong Seong for interrupting.
"Jay?" Jake fumbled to sit up, his eyes turning to you before refocusing on Jay. "Is it time to leave already?"
"Duh," Jay rolled his eyes, casually dropping onto the couch beside you. "How are you, Y/N? Been enjoying summer?"
"Quite," you simply shrugged. "Someone over here left me alone after he promised a summer full of adventures," you nudged Jake and he smiled apologetically.
"I got caught up with some things!" He defended but Jay raised an eyebrow at his words.
"Some things or some one?"
"What?" You turned to Jake, trying to mask your disappointment with sheer interest. "Is it Grace?"
"So … you knew?" Jay's eyebrows only raised higher.
"I only found out yesterday, indirectly as well." you said, clearly unimpressed.
Jake rolled his eyes, sighing deeply. "Come on, guys. She only texted me once or twice. I was busy cramming my work, okay?"
"That's true too," Jay nodded in understanding. "You practically procrastinated everything and now it's a pile,"
"Must you remind me of it?" Jake groaned, his attention to you, taking notice of your sudden silence. "You alright there?"
You blinked at him, humming in response. How could you tell him that your stomach churned with jealousy whenever Grace was mentioned? How could you even admit that you're currently harbouring some god forbidding liking towards him? Your childhood best friend? The one who once spilled chocolate milk all over his shirt? The one who cried when he was forced to go back home after a whole day together with you? Jake Sim?
You were fucked. You liked Sim Jaeyun. And you had zero idea what to do about it.
Tumblr media
The house party was basically like every other one you've been to. Passed out drunks here and there, the dance floor crammed to the max, the music booming loudly in your ears. Overall, you felt regretful coming here.
What made things worse was Jake abandoning you to talk to Grace. Yup, Grace. Even after all the denial he fed to you and Jay, he's still laughing and talking merrily to her, leaving you stuck in the middle of an unfamiliar house.
What a great Friday night!
It was almost midnight, so you decided to storm out of the house for some fresh air before declaring your leave, but Jake somehow caught you sneaking out.
"Leaving so soon?" He was leaning against the wall, watching your tired figure semi-passed out on the chair.
"God, Jake, you reek of alcohol," you pointed out, scrunching your nose at the stench. "Also, I'm not that inconsiderate. I won't leave you behind … unlike someone over here," you grumbled.
"Look, Grace dragged me away the moment I entered. Plus, I think I got to start avoiding her now," Jake groaned, sitting down next to you.
"Broke her heart?" You assumed. It wasn't uncommon to see Jake reject girls and break their heart growing up. Well, look at him, it was a fact that he got girls lining up for him. But you found it weird how he's never had a long term relationship before, which only made you more wary about your feelings for him.
"I wasn't being a douche about it!" He threw up his hands in defence. "I kindly rejected her, that's all. She seemed cool about it though," he shrugged and you felt his shoulder brush against your arm, his thigh making contact with yours.
"Look at you, all grown up and no longer breaking girls' hearts!" You smiled sarcastically at him.
"Hey! I literally rejected all of them in a nice way. I'm a kind man, you know?" Jake huffed, stretching his body, then proceeded to slyly place his arms around you.
You were genuinely trying your hardest to remain the best poker face you could even manage. Yet, you knew the facade would eventually fade. "Sure, sure, Jakey boy."
He turned his body to face yours, a challenging expression written all over his face. "Do you remember the time when we were five and I gave you my legos? I still remember how many hugs you gave me every day after that. So yes, I am kind." Jake insisted.
"You remembered?" You grinned at him, feeling your heart rate increasing once you saw the fondness in his eyes.
"Of course I remembered," he said softly. "You give good hugs anyway."
"Want a hug?" You chuckled, not expecting Jake to actually dive into your arms and hold onto you tightly.
"You smell like strawberries," he murmured against your skin.
You swallowed thickly and started breathing heavily. "A–are you drunk?"
"Just a bit," he pulled away from your body, his brown eyes meeting yours, his hands slowly travelling up to your face.
"Have I ever told you how pretty you are?" He whispered.
"Don't do this," you mumbled, your hand reaching for his wrist.
"What?" He breathed, his warm breath fanning your cheeks.
"Don't make me fall in love with you completely," you stared into his eyes, slight hurt and regret painted your expressions.
"Fuck, why did I say that?" you laughed pitifully at yourself, removing yourself from his arms and stood up. "It's getting late, let's go," you said, ignoring Jake's lingering gaze.
"Y/N," he held onto your wrist and you stood rooted to the ground, not knowing what you could even say or do. You felt like an idiot. "W–what did you mean by that?"
"It's nothing," you dismissed his question, feeling yourself sinking into a deeper hole. Jake furrowed his eyebrows, clearly frustrated. The moment he got up, he stumbled slightly and his words slurred. The alcohol has finally seeped in.
"Y/N, come on," he urged, desperation in his eyes. All you could do was sigh.
"I'm sorry, Jake."
So you did what you always do every summer. You ran from your problems and hid from the fact you had lingering feelings for your "best friend".
Tumblr media
You found yourself avoiding Jake after that night.
It was ironic how you complained about him disappearing in and out of your life during the start of summer, but here you were, doing the same.
He came over to your house a couple of times, but you chose the cowardly choice of hiding away. All of his texts and calls were half answered.
You hated doing this, you knew it was hurting both you and him. But what could you do? Confess? Well, it was the most obvious way to solve the problem, but you were unwilling to risk a life long friendship with him. Pathetic you were indeed.
The weekend rolled around the corner and you just had to face one demise after another. Jake and his family were coming over for dinner and there's zero chances for you to dodge him this time. Thank you, Universe, you thought sarcastically.
Your palms felt clammy and sweaty as you set up the table. Before this, your mother had specifically requested you to present yourself more formally instead of wearing your typical sweats, so now you were stuck in a black skin tight dress, just appropriate enough to not be deemed as slutty.
"They're here!" your mother announced, clapping her hands in excitement. You, on the other hand, were only filled with nothing but dread.
The door flew open and hugs were exchanged. Your mother squealed happily when she saw Jake and for a moment, you were about to do the same.
His hair was slicked back, only a strand was left hanging in front of his face. He was wearing a formal black suit paired alongside a simple black tie. He was about to be the death of you.
"Y/N." He nodded at you, lips pressed in a straight line.
"Jake." You replied back, hands kept behind your back, trying to conceal the fact that you were actually fidgeting.
"You kids are matching!" Mrs Sim pointed out, laughing delightfully.
You felt Jake's eyes on your body for a tense moment, sensing them scanning you from top to bottom. You met his gaze once he finished checking you out so blatantly, and all he did was smile at you innocently. Jerk. He knew exactly what he was doing.
"Why don't you kids go hang out yourselves?" Your mother patted your arm.
"Sure," Jake shrugged, smoothing out the fronts of his blazer.
"Great!" Your mother beamed, then leaned down to whisper to you. "Don't do anything weird, okay?"
You grimaced. "Ew." Must your own mother put the mental image of you doing something 'weird' with Jake into your mind?
You turned around, practically dashing up the stairs towards your room. And as always, Jake followed you like a lost puppy. Once he shut the door to your room, he faced you with a blank expression, devoid of any signs of what he's about to say.
"So? Are you going to explain why you were ignoring me?" Jake leaned against the door, his hands in his pockets as he stared at you, unimpressed.
"What if I don't?" you replied, sitting on the edge of your bed.
"I'll force it out of you somehow, you know I always get my way," he replied nonchalantly and you only rolled your eyes at him, knowing how he wasn't completely wrong.
Jake seemed to have noticed your silence and decided to break the ice first. "I remembered that night, Y/N. You can't hide away from me forever just because of what you said."
You groaned, burying your face into your hands, completely flushed with embarrassment. "Must you remind me?"
"How can I forget about it when my best friend literally told me she loves me?" He kneeled in front of you, taking your hands in his. "Can't you just tell me how you feel? It's been days and nights since I felt at peace after what you'd said to me. What's worse is that I couldn't even remember it precisely. So please, just make it clear."
"Fine. Jake, I–"
"Y/N!"
You wished you could blow up right this instance. Out of every second, every minute, your mother just had to call you when you were about to come clean about your feelings. If you could, you would've liked to reach for the nearest pillow and scream into it.
"Well … next time, Jakey boy. Dinner calls!"
Before Jake could respond, you exited your room quickly, ignoring your thumping heart as you replayed everything in your mind.
Tumblr media
Dinner was awkward.
Parents asking about each other's kids' situations and having deep conversations about life while Jake and you, on the other hand, were avoiding each other's gazes. Not ready to face whatever that had just happened.
You thought your torment was finally over when dinner ended and you found yourself dipping your legs by the pool when Jake silently joined your side, following your actions.
"You okay?"
You turned to look at him, kicking your legs slightly, you felt your shoulder brushing against his, thighs touching. "I'm fine. Just a little tired. Why?"
"Nothing. It was just that you were barely speaking all dinner and I got concerned," Jake pointed out and you shrugged nonchalantly.
"Everything's … complicated these days," you said.
At your words, Jake shifted a little. He knew what your "complicated" meant, it was about you and him.
"What even are we?" Jake spluttered out and you froze beside him, the water temperature suddenly dropping to 0 degrees.
"You really want to talk about that now?" You mumbled, frowning.
"Then when can we even face it? I'm tired of you running away and me being in the dark," Jake argued, turning his body to face you.
"Jake …" you were rendered speechless, your body still, guilt clawing its way into your system. "I just don't think I'm ready yet, okay?"
Jake seemed frustrated at your comment. "Y/N–"
"JAKE!"
It was his mother calling out for him and you heard him swearing under his breath. "Next time, Y/N. I'll wait for you."
With that, he left, leaving you completely dazed. He'll wait?
Tumblr media
"Can you please come? They literally have a pool!"
Thursday night you found yourself at peace knowing nothing will ruin your weekend, until Jay's phone call. Being the party goer he was, he's now trying to convince you to tag along to some guy's party.
"What if I said no?"
"I don't take 'no' as an answer,"
"Tough luck, champ,"
"Come on, Y/N," Jay whined. "Everyone is going. I mean, Jake is, and that cute guy you mentioned from school — Heeseung — was it? He's there too. You can shoot your shot!"
You thought about it for a moment as you cursed Jay for being way too convincing. "Fine. Since you asked so nicely."
"I know I could always count on you."
Safe to say the party was going considerably well and you weren't about to leave just after arriving for only a solid 15 minutes. Jay remained by yourself for the whole time, conversing with his own circle of friends while your eyes searched for a specific somebody among the sea of people.
“I’ll go for a dance,” you nudged Jay, trying to get his attention.
“Be safe.” he simply said, but his words were filled with genuinity.
A couple cups of drinks definitely boosted your confidence as you shamelessly swayed your hips to the music playing in the background. The blinking lights blinded your sight, alcohol clouded your thoughts, unknowing to someone sliding close to you. Thankfully, your sixth sense never failed and you turned to meet the gaze of Lee Heeseung.
“Hey,” he casually greeted.
“Hi,” you breathed out, sudden shyness taking over.
“Wanna dance?” he offered and you nodded meekly. “Follow my lead,” he held onto your arms, circling them over his shoulder.
“Is this okay?” Heeseung whispered and you nodded once more.
You couldn’t believe this was happening. The cute guy from school was in fact dancing with you. You let yourself let go as you closed your eyes and swayed along to the beat of the music. This was heaven.
No matter how you tried to shake off that weird feeling, it never went away. You knew someone was staring at you, burning little holes into the back of your head intensely. You opened your eyes, letting them adjust to the startling lights and almost immediately, you locked gazes with him.
Lo and behold, Jake Sim, sitting across the room, his jaw clenched, eyebrows furrowed. He was clearly unhappy about whatever you were doing, and you loved the effect you had on him.
You smiled innocently, leaning close to Heeseung's ear. "I'm going to take a break. See you at school?"
Heeseung grinned at you. "Sure thing. I had fun dancing with you."
"Likewise."
Thankfully, you managed to waddle your way through the crowd alive and made your way out of the house for some fresh air. The atmosphere inside of the house was too heavy and the smell of sweat and cheap alcohol stuck in the air.
"Running away from me again?"
A voice came from behind you and you knew who it was immediately.
"Not everything is about you, okay?" You grumbled, hugging your arms around your body for warmth as you sat down on the front steps.
Jake joined your side, placing his hands on his knees, glancing at you from time to time. “Care to explain why you’re actively avoiding me?”
“I’m not,”
“Liar.”
You remained silent, not knowing what to say next.
“You were dancing real close to Heeseung tonight,” he pointed out.
“Great observation, Sherlock,” you finally dared to turn to look at him. “Can we head back in? I’m craving for a drink,”
Jake only nodded soundlessly, following your movements as you stood up to head back in. You felt bad, guilty even, at the way you’re acting towards your lifelong best friend, but you couldn’t help it, your emotions were basically choking you hard. You tugged on Jake’s shirt, ready to say something.
“Jake—” Just when you two entered, Jake was pulled away, not even sparing a second for you to process, so now you were alone.
“Great,” you mumbled unhappily under your breath, making your way to the drinks in the kitchen. Maybe they’ll console you instead. You genuinely wondered who’d cursed you countlessly whenever you were trying to confront Jake.
To your dismay, the kitchen was filled with drunk teenagers who were all busy mixing their new anecdote for the night. Plan B, not the kitchen.
You left for the living room instead, grumbling in annoyance since you couldn't get a drink. As you were about to turn a corner, you heard voices, very familiar ones and immediately halted your steps.
“You ditched Grace?” Park Sunghoon, the notorious figure skater who everyone was pining for, hissed.
Jake hummed.
“Is it because of Y/N?” Sunghoon asked, an undertone of suspicion laced in his voice.
"I don't like her like that," Jake murmured under his breath.
You froze. This couldn't be happening now, right? Out of any day, any place, it just had to be in a house, in the middle of an ongoing party. To be frank, you've already prepared yourself to face rejection every time you imagined confessing to Jake. But overhearing Jake's negative confession was surely not in your list.
"You're serious?" Sunghoon poked on.
"I don't know, man." Jake sighed in defeat. "Can we not talk about this now?"
You blinked away the confusing feelings you were currently having. Was it anger? Was it sadness? Was it hope? You couldn't tell. All you wanted was to be home, in your cosy bed.
There were many things you were afraid to do in life, such as talking to boys your age, socialising, confronting your crush and so on, but today, right now, you had zero regrets as you continued your steps, walking past Jake.
It was all white noises in your ears and blissful ignorance. Jake was calling after you, trying to reach you, but the crowd only ended up swallowing him whole.
Once you were out of the house, you found yourself finally breathing again, suddenly thankful for the fresh air. But there's a rather unfortunate problem for you, Jake caught up with you.
"Y/N," he breathed.
"Fuck off," you snapped, an overwhelming wave of emotions clawing in your body.
"Listen to me, I didn't mean that," Jake's voice rose unintentionally.
"Yeah? So you're expecting me to be totally fine as if nothing happened?" You frowned. "Well, hi Jake, how was the party? Not good? Why-"
"Stop! Why are you even acting like this?" Jake grabbed ahold of your shoulders, making you stare directly at him as he could tell you were about to flee at any minute.
"Because–" You shrugged his hold away. "I like you, Jake! Ever since we were fifteen. But you were always so clueless to tell. And this summer, you were basically too hung up over Grace to spend time with me, then that night when you said those things to me, do you expect me to act oblivious after that? And today, you said those words … how am I supposed to know how you feel?"
You couldn't tell what Jake was thinking. He practically had a poker face on, seemingly trying to take in everything you've just said. "Y/N …"
"What do you want from me, Jake?"
Jake took a deep breath, his features ridden with frustration as he burst out.
"I want you. Okay? Happy now?"
To say you were stunned was clearly an understatement. You didn't know what to say or act, staring at him with your mouth ajar.
"I–I have liked you since we were kids and I don't think I realised until this summer," Jake went on, clearly rambling in distress. "That's why I avoided you, Y/N. I was scared. I didn't know why I felt like that or what I should do. In the end, I figured it was you. It was always you, no matter what."
"Then have me, Jake."
"What?"
It was one of those moments where it felt entirely out of a movie. Jake could only stare at you wordlessly while you breathed heavily, a million thoughts running through your head and you’ve finally accepted it.
Oh no, you’ve fallen in love.
“Just shut up and kiss me,” you grumbled under your breath, taking his face into your hands and pulling him in for a kiss.
When your lips touched, it felt as if countless emotions and unspoken words from over the years passed through like a connection. It felt right. Jake slid his hand around your neck, pulling you deeper into the kiss. This was absolute bliss.
You put your hand on his wrist, pulling away gently, eyes not leaving one another for even a second. The two of you pant softly, trying to catch a breath from the kiss and you started to shy away, in disbelief that this actually happened. Jake noticed, smiling a little, leaning down to press a gentle peck against the side of your mouth.
“Wanna stay over at mine tonight? I can drive,”
“You already know the answer to that.”
Tumblr media
Laying in his bed with the lights off accompanied by the whirring of the A/C played in the background, his arms wrapped around you, the beating of his heart against your back, feeling the steady rise and fall of his chest, it was something familiar yet so new.
You turned around to face him, watching as he rubbed his eyes, stirring awake slightly. It was still dark outside, but Jake couldn’t fall asleep, finding himself treasuring your presence instead. You were brushing loose strands of hair away from his face when a strange look appeared and he spoke, voice sluggish.
"You're my best friend."
Somehow, you understood what he meant and you knew what it was. He is in love.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bucky Barnes was a busy man. Running a multi-million-dollar company wasn’t the easiest thing, but something that he cared more about than this job was his family. His beautiful wife and daughter.
You always loved and appreciated the attention, support, and endless love that your husband gave, even when you just started dating eight years ago. As soon as you met, it took some time for both of you to finally admit your feelings, but when you got together, it was perfect. You’ve never felt that way in your life before. When you were younger, everyone told you that you wouldn’t be able to find a person because of your high standards, but when you started dating James Buchanan Barnes, you knew that it was forever.
A beautiful, respectful, and caring man who would do anything for you.
For the past two months, he has been more distant. His company was getting bigger; he had too many meetings, and too many new things required his whole attention. You understood it; of course you did. But you would be lying if you said that you didn’t miss him. Your daughter felt it too. She was totally daddy’s girl, so being away from him for too long upset her, even though she was trying to be tough and careless, just like her dad when he was working.
You talked to her about her dad’s work, and she was a smart girl for a 3-year-old. She understood that he has a lot to do right now and that he still loves her more than anything in this world.
Today he returned home only after 2 am., you heard that he went to take a shower in a different room, probably not to wake you up. But you were too eager to spend as much time with him as possible, even if it was when he was falling asleep.
Bucky came into the room quietly. As soon as he got under the blanket, his warm and strong arms wrapped around you. He pulled you closer to him, burying his nose into your neck.
"I’m sorry, doll. Again." He took a deep breath, enjoying your scent, which he missed so much. "I love you."
"That’s okay, baby." You moved even closer to him, burying your fingers into his wet hair, and left a kiss on his temple. "I love you too. Now take some rest."
You hadn't even started to fall asleep when you heard a weird noise outside your bedroom, and then the door slightly opened.
"Daddy? Mommy?" A little voice came through the silence of the room. "Are you asleep?" Your daughter suddenly sobbed, and you and Bucky immediately sat on the bed, reaching for the nightstand lamps.
"Hey, angel, what happened? Come here." Bucky’s voice was very soft and gentle, as always when he talked to your daughter. She came closer to the bed, and Bucky picked her up, putting her on his lap. She was tightly holding her favorite white wolf, which you gifted Bucky as a joke because of his nickname at work. Your daughter's eyes were a little bit red, her hair messy, and her cheeks wet with tears. You moved closer to them, gently rubbing her face.
"What’s going on? You saw a bad dream?" You quietly asked, but she just shook her head.
"I— I—" She was obviously too upset to put her words together, so Bucky started to rub her back, whispering a quiet "sh-h".
"I— miss you, daddy." As soon as these words left her mouth, you and Bucky froze, and she started crying even harder. "I don’t s-see you, and me and mom—mommy are always alone."
Bucky looked you in the eyes, and you saw that his own were full of tears. The last thing he wanted to do was upset either of you. He felt that his heart was ripping apart. You made your daughter cry, you idiot. Your wife deserves better.
You just put your hand on his shoulder and squeezed, already knowing where his mind went. He always wanted to give his family everything, and the fact that he put work above his two favorite people in the world made him sick.
"Angel, hey, baby, look at me." Bucky turned back to your daughter, grabbing her little face with his hands and gently wiping away her tears. "I promise that the day after tomorrow we will go somewhere. Only mommy, you, and me, okay?"
"But—but you’re working."
"I know, angel. But I didn't want to make you feel lonely or to stay away for too long from your mom." He grabbed your hand and brought it to his mouth to leave a kiss. "We will go wherever you want to. Maybe stay there for the week. You would like that?" He smiled at your daughter, and she happily giggled, wrapping herself around Bucky’s neck. "I love you. Both of you. You two are my whole life, and I'll do anything to make you happy."
You softly smiled at him, leaning in to leave a quick kiss on his lips.
Your daughter put away her white wolf and opened her other arm, wanting you to join her and Bucky in a hug.
That night she stayed in your bed because she almost passed out in Bucky’s arms but still held onto you both too tightly. The three of you happily curled under the blanket, with your daughter in between. Bucky knew that it was time for him to finally make the right decision. To choose his family.
As Bucky promised, one day later your little family was on a vacation where no one could disturb you. He left Steve, Sam, and Natasha, his closest and oldest friends, in charge of everything, canceled all the meetings, and took you and your daughter on the private jet that brought you here. One of the most beautiful places you’ve ever been.
It was quiet. No strangers, no annoying noise, no worries. Just the three of you on the beach with a perfect little house and warm, crystal-clear water.
You were wearing a light flowy dress, and Bucky, finally free from those annoying suits, chose trousers with a white tank top and shirt on top of it.
You two were sitting under the sunset on a blanket with food and a bottle of wine, while your daughter was playing near the water with sand. It was such an amazing evening; just everything was perfect, and as you were watching your smiling husband, you felt that you had fallen in love once again.
"You keep staring at me, doll, You ‘kay?" He finally turned his face to you, and you couldn't hold your wide smile, which he immediately returned.
"I’m okay. It’s just… everything is perfect here—the beach, the house, you two here." You covered your eyes with your hand because of the setting sun. "You know, you’ve been here for a couple of hours, but you look much better. Your skin is glowing, you’re happy, and, god, that hair bun looks really hot." Bucky’s smile grew wilder because of your words.
He grabbed you in bridal style and set you across his lap, wrapping his hands around your waist. You slightly screamed, not being ready for such movements, but then happily melted into your husband's touch.
"So you think that I look hot?" A cheesy grin crossed his face, and you playfully rolled your eyes.
"Do you think I would’ve married you if I thought otherwise, James?" You arched an eyebrow at him. Your hands found the perfect place under Bucky’s blue shirt by themselves. God, it's been too long since you spent good time together alone.
"What do you think about the idea that when we get home, we send our daughter to visit her amazing grandparents, so we could be completely alone for a couple of days?" He said it as if he was reading your mind, so you just silently nodded. "Doll, you’re too beautiful for this damn world; I can’t even understand how I was able to be far away from you for that long. I missed you so much, baby." Bucky’s hands slipped lower on your hips, while his lips were leaving sweet kisses on the side of your neck.
"Not here, Buck; we’re not alone, remember?" You nodded back at your daughter, who was honestly more interested in building sandcastles.
"Of course. Just wanted to say that I’m so sorry for my absence. I got so involved in work that I didn’t even notice that you too were hurt. I’ve never wanted to do that. I’m sorry. And I love you. So fucking much." Bucky connected your foreheads and put his right hand on your cheek.
"Don’t be sorry. I know that you want better for us and that you want to do everything right. It’s okay to make mistakes sometimes. You know, you are such a great dad because your daughter’s tears made you leave everything and spend time with us. And I’m forever thankful for this." You smiled, holding his stubbled face in your hands. "I love you, James."
You two connected with a kiss. It wasn’t too rough or desperate. It was just pure love and adoration for one another. Bucky was slowly moving his lips, feeling the need for your taste, your smell, and your touch. Your little bubble didn’t last too long, though, not after your daughter finally wanted your attention.
"Mommy! Daddy!" You pulled away from the kiss, looking back at your daughter, who was now all in the sand. "Do you want to help me build a castle?"
You looked at Bucky, who had the same smile on his face.
"Of course, angel. What do you need from us?"

Bitchy Besties
“Leave me alone Cory! This is weird and creepy! This is why we broke up over the summer! You can't do this, not as we are about to start our senior year tomorrow! For a computer genius you really are stupid sometimes!” Kate said as stomped away angrily from her ex boyfriend.
Tumblr media
Kate had been eager to get started on her course work for the year that she came in a day early to prep but was rudely interrupted by her Cory her ex boyfriend who she had been dodging calls from all summer.
“Please Kate! I did this for you! I know you were against this plan from the start but you have to help me finish it now, it will change you life!” Cory pleaded with her while holding the length of hair extensions he had stolen from Tanya, the biggest bitch in school.
“I didn’t want you to do this! Even if I believed that you were right, that Tanya got her confidence, her meanness, her power from her hair extensions, why would I ever want that?” Kate said finally stopping to face him.
“Because she’s been your bully for years and if you can take that power from her then you can finally stand up to her.” Cory said with no ounce of insincerity.
Kate wasn’t buying it though, she knew he just got off on this ‘corruption fetish’. She had caught him one day jacking off to posts online from some woman called ‘Evie’. Each story had someone go from a loser into a slutty mean bitch like Tanya. Even now she could see his crotch twitch.
It was why they broke up. Cory got it into his mind that because Tanya wore extensions that they were somehow the source of her ‘bitchiness’. The whole thing was absurd to Kate and the stories she had read were filthy. She wished he would listen to her. That’s when it hit her. All of Evie’s stories that she had read had the men subservient to the women so if she could ‘transform’ then maybe she could tell him to leave her alone for good.
“Fine! Give me that stupid thing!” Kate said annoyed as Cory handed her the hair and then handed her a bag.
“Wait what’s all this?” She asked about the bag.
“Well I figured once you change you’ll want to be in something more Tanya’s style, so inside is a dress, jewelry, makeup, and shoes.” He said with a sick grin. Kate rolled her eyes.
“Fine but stay here, I’m getting changed in the bathroom.” She said and he looked sad that he wouldn’t see the transformation first hand.
Entering the bathroom she emptied the bag onto the counter and saw with disgust the tight slutty clothes he had chosen. Sighing she just made peace with what she was about to do, once she had this done she could move on with her life.
Stripping off her baggy clothes she poured herself into the slick leather pants and tight white top. Both surprisingly fit her well. She had never considered herself to be the same size as Tanya but then again she was used to dressing as if it was perpetual winter. Even her boobs looked pretty good in the top, it helped that she had developed early but hid them from the world.
Eyeing the jewelry next, she put on the hoop earrings and the necklace. She thought she would feel weighed down by it all, but it all felt remarkably light on her body. The necklace even drew the eye to her cleavage, as if by design.
Next she stepped into the high heel shoes which were bigger than anything she was used to. Taking her first few steps she felt unsteady but after about a minute she was a natural. She thought to herself that her years wearing soccer cleats must be helping her adapt quickly.
Her most daunting task were the fake nails and makeup. She hated makeup with a passion but she needed to do this so picked up the makeup brush and began applying a soft foundation. It reminded her of art class which she loved and imagined her face as a canvas. She gave herself a smoky eye, a bold lip, sharp eyebrows. She was actually impressed by it all. Her lips looked fuller, her blue eyes more piercing.
Snapping on the long fake nails was a breeze too. She never understood before how girls could do anything with their nails so long but as she took out her phone to take a quick selfie of her finished self she found the clicky clack of the nails against her phone screen strangely satisfying.
However before she took the picture she realized she was missing one thing, the main thing that this was all about. The hair. Picking up the long extensions, Kate was thankful that her and Tanya had the same shade of colour otherwise it would look odd.
Clipping it on, she quickly found it was hard to find where her own hair ended and the extensions began. Running her hand through it she couldn’t find the seam, it all felt the same.
Tumblr media
According to all the filthy stories she had read this was the moment where the ‘evil’ part of her would take over or Tanya’s soul would corrupt hers. Instead she just broke out into a laugh. She couldn’t believe Cory actually believed this would do anything. When she had broken up with him she had been crest fallen about it but now she was glad she had.
“What a loser.” She muttered to herself as she stroked her hair. She did have to admit she felt kind of empowered being in the get up. As if she were like a super hero who transformed into their costume. Although she was dressed more like a baddie in every sense of the word. Now she just had to act the part.
Closing her eyes she remembered back to the Evie stories she had read and tried to channel the girls in them. She thought about Tanya and her walk, her posture, her sneer. If she was going to get Cory to stop bothering her for good she needed to be convincing.
Opening her eyes she put a hand on her hip and stared at her reflection with the same contempt she has seen in Tanya’s face a thousand times, like she had smelt something rotten. The makeup helped make her expression cold and cruel.
Tumblr media
“You think you can just walk around here dressed like a bargain bin reject and not get bullied, haha you’re pathetic.” Kate said with pitch perfect bitchy tone followed by an evil grin that curled up naturally.
“You’re the new girl here so you don’t yet understand that I rule this place. I’m the queen bee. I’m the head bitch. I’m Kate…” she began to say but her own name felt weird. Kate wasn’t the name of a bullying bitch, it belonged to a kind and sporty girl who kept to herself. No she needed a new name for her new persona.
When the name came to her she knew she was ready. Taking one last look at herself, she gave herself a wink and strutted out of the bathroom.
The first thing Cory heard was the clip clop of her heels and so was drawn to looking at her feet first. His eyes travelled up her body and every inch closer to the top he found himself get harder. By the time he got to her face he was pitching a tent.
“Eww do you have a boner you creep?” Kate said in her fake bitchy tone but the disgust was all hers. She couldn’t believe she ever dated him.
“I’m sorry Kate you just look like, my god…” he said his mouth agape. Kate knew she needed to turn on the haughty superiority, someone like Tanya wouldn’t stand for this.
“Kate? Who the fuck is Kate? I’m Kayleigh and why are you even talking to me loser?” She snarled at him. He seemed to shrink in her presence, a fact that made Kayleigh strangely proud.
“I-I’m sorry Ka-Kayleigh I d-didn’t mean anything by…” he started but Kayleigh just rolled her eyes.
Tumblr media
“D-d-d-dipshit. God you’re pathetic. Is this what the school has in terms of men? Don’t you ever bother me again you hear me? Now scram loser before I give you something to really stutter about.” Kayleigh said glaring at Cory who froze for a moment before running off down the hall. Kayleigh watched as he tried to hide his erection from her.
“Phew that outta do it.” She thought and dropped her bitchy stance, letting her shoulders slump. However what she heard next sent a shiver through her body.
“Impressive what you did to that little weasel.” Said a voice behind her that she knew belonged to Tanya. Reasserting her mean girl stance, Kate pivoted around to see Tanya leaning against a doorway.
This couldn’t have gone south quicker, Kate thought, here she was standing feet away from her bully, wearing her clothes, jewelry, makeup and shoes. Tanya strutted over to her like a predator. Inside Kate braced herself but Tanya stopped just in front of her.
“You know I caught him stealing from me recently? Glad someone made him realize what a twerp he is. Are you new here?” Tanya said eying Kate but seeing only Kayleigh. If Kate was going to get out of this unscathed she needed to continue to act like Kayleigh a little more.
“Yeah I am. Its Kayleigh. Daddy got a job here and we are scouting schools. I have to say that this one isn’t impressing me much.” Kayleigh said, the disgusted tone flowing effortlessly out of her mouth.
“Ugh tell me about it. I begged mommy and daddy to send me to Alpha prep but they wanted me to mingle with the ‘common’ kids.” Tanya said disdainfully.
“Alpha prep? Babe those uniforms would have looked bomb on your fabulous figure.” Kayleigh said flattering her enemy.
“Right? I had all these plans to modify it to make me the hottest bitch there but being queen of this dump does have its perks, like getting early access to test answers for the semester, otherwise I wouldn't be seen dead here on a weekend." Tanya said holding up a sheet of paper with various subjects listed.
“Totally. Being here on a Sunday is making my skin crawl.” Kayleigh sneered in a way that Tanya found familiar but enjoyable. She didn’t recognize her own sneer that Kayleigh was mimicking perfectly.
"Hey why don't you let me take you to the mall and I'll show you around the best stores and I can fill you in on all the juicy gossip. I can give you a better sense of this school than you can walking these dusty halls.” Tanya asked. This wasn’t what Kate had in mind, she knew this would just prolong her time as Kayleigh but she was finding herself not caring as much as she had before. A few hours of pretend wouldn’t kill her.
Tumblr media
“Totes babe I was thinking the exact same thing.” Kayleigh said and Tanya practically grabbed her and locked arms with her.
“I’ll show you what fun two hotties like us can have. By the way I love your outfit, it’s totally my style.” Tanya smiled at her as she led Kayleigh out of the school away from her baggy clothes hidden in the bathroom, away from her identity as Kate.

Being the girlfriend of the Wakatoshi Ushijima was something I didn’t expect would hurt this much. As his girlfriend, I understood the importance of volleyball since it quite literally is his career path. However, being in a relationship is a whole other aspect to think about.
There never really was anything that really stood out to me about his wrongdoings. He always made it to every dinner plan, he didn’t forget the classic month to month anniversaries, he seemed like he was just a gift from heaven.
I knew it was too good to be true when I realized we, or I, was severely lacking in the physical department of our relationship.
Ushijima and I never really got closer within touching or skin-ship distance. That really sucked for me and hurt my feelings since he aced every other aspect of our relationship, no pun intended.
I wasn’t sure if he was just uncomfortable with touching me or if he had some kind of weird feeling about touching me. However, with physical touch being my number one priority of love language I wasn’t sure how to go about telling him my feelings.
Giving Wakatoshi free rein to plan out his schedule, except for date nights, was a must. He is a grown man and I’m not his mother, but I always felt bad when there was something important, like this, to be talked about.
I couldn’t help but to bite my lip as I stared at our private text messages. His contact name, ‘Ushi baby’ stared right back at me whilst I tried to work up the courage to send a text.
Deciding against it, I threw my phone onto my bed and sighed loudly. He was at practice and had a game tomorrow so I didn’t want to bother him or cloud his mind with meaningless things like what I need to talk about.
I couldn’t help to wallow in my own pity. The clock on my white painted walls doing nothing but making the sound of ticking throughout my room which eventually annoyed me enough to leave.
It was around the time for Ushi’s practice to be over and I really wanted him to come over, I just didn’t know how everything would go.
Whenever we had first started dating I got introduced, and interviewed, by Wakatoshi’s best friend, Tendou. And now, Tendou was one of my closest friends so I decided to call the Chocolatier himself for support.
After the phone had rang for three seconds it picked up, “Hello! Hello!” the familiar voice sounded throughout my kitchen.
“Hey Ten! I am in need of advice and company.” I admitted due to the facetime call revealing his apron on with some stains of colors on it.
“Oh really?” He asked, drawing out the ‘really’.
“Yes, really. I need to talk to Wakatoshi, I’m just not sure how. Any ideas?”
“That depends on what you’re going to talk to him about. Saying the wrong thing could make him easily misunderstand what you mean and vice versa.” Tendou tried to poetically explain, as if I didn’t already know that.
“Yeah, thank you so much,” I rolled my eyes, “I’m feeling a bit.. lonely in our relationship lately. I need more physical affection from him and I’m not sure how to really bring it up because times that’s happened before.”
That little spill from me made memories pop up into my head of Ushijima rejecting my attempts for physical love.
I could only remember how he shrugged himself away from holding my hand or kissing me after I brought him a well-balanced lunch meal one day during practice.
I never felt more embarrassed or ashamed in my life. My own boyfriend rejected my advances to give him, and to receive love from him in front of his entire team.
It wasn’t the only time that that had happened. I tried doing it behind closed doors just in case he didn’t like publicly displaying affection. However, that didn’t work either when he moved away from me one night after being out to dinner.
From that point on it’s just been messaging, very little facetime, some phone calls, and occasionally visiting each other’s apartment. I wasn’t sure how to proceed with this, and I certainly didn’t think it was anywhere near enough to breaking up.
However, that doesn’t mean he didn’t hurt my feelings nor have been continuing to hurt them. Whether on purpose or not.
With Ushijima being a member of the Schweiden Adlers, I knew some of his teammates and occasionally talked with them about how my boyfriend was doing time to time.
However, I couldn’t help to not reach out to them within the last couple of weeks. I didn’t have the courage to confidently ask about him.
Tendou’s voice brought me back to where I needed to be, which was having this conversation to communicate my needs across to him.
“And since knowing him for a while helps my understanding, I think a simple conversation would do the trick. Honestly, I’m not sure why you called if you knew that too?” He questioned me, eyes peering dangerously close to mine through the tiny phone screen.
I bit my lip, “It’s just… he has a game tomorrow. I don’t want to ruin that by spouting dumb nonsense about how I’m not feeling this or that from him.”
Growing up, I’ve always considered other peoples thoughts, opinions, feelings before mine. It was just the kind of person I was, and now it hurts me the most when I need to express myself.
“Girl. Fuck that game.” He rolled his eyes at me.
“Yes Wakatoshi loves his career and it’ll always be there but you’re something in his life that can disappear at any moment. I think he’d want to know,” Tendou tried reasoning with my dumb logic as he pointed a wooden spoon in my direction.
I gave up. I knew in the back of my mind that Tendou was definitely right and I wasn’t but it was my own self that was keeping me from doing what I needed to do.
“Alright, I think I’ll ask him to come over tonight then.” I tried to say confidently after I made up my mind of what needed to be done.
“Great! When I’m in Tokyo next I’ll be sure to bring a little something for you and him.” Tendou winked at me before ending the facetime call.
That only left me to do one thing, text my boyfriend. I quickly sent him a text asking if it would be okay for him to come over after practice.
My nerves were all over the place as I waited for the tall, olive haired man to show up at my place.
Soon the door bell brought me out of my mind trance and when I opened the door I saw the one and only Ushijima.
“Hey Toshi, come in,” I widened the door after taking a good look at him.
It seemed like he came here right out of practice, he was still in his whole practice uniform. His usual stoic face didn’t change once I sat down on to my living room couch.
“Is something the matter, (Y/n)?” He bluntly asked, getting straight to the point with me.
I took a deep breath to prepare myself, “Yes, Toshi. There is something the matter. My feelings are hurt and have been hurt for a while due to the lack of physical touch in our relationship.” I paused for a moment to look over his face.
He seemed to be intently listening on every word I was saying which gave me the impression to keep going.
“I just want more skin ship with you like hugging, kissing, hang holding, or even just sitting beside you with arms touching. I feel deprived of that because you seem to always move away when I try to initiate it. Is there a reason or..?” I trailed off, finishing what I was saying and asking a question to see his side.
“I’m sorry for making you feel that way, (Y/n). I don’t understand the idea of that. It makes you feel more loved than usual?” He asked, trying to work around in his head of what I had mentioned.
“Well, yes. Without it I feel upset or rejected by you sometimes.” I hung my head low a bit, it was embarrassing having to discuss this. However, I was always one to get embarrassed or ashamed at anything I needed.
“I will try, for you.” He promised, his large hand reaching over to me and placing it on my knee. He was very warm and it traveled through my body.
I smiled a bit, “Thank you, I really appreciate it. I’m sorry for not telling you sooner.”
I scooted closer to him on the couch and he gave me his one million dollar small smile that I love. His arms wrapped around my shoulders whilst I hugged his torso. His lean but built, very built, body touched my soft one, I loved this feeling.
We stayed like that for a minute, nothing heard but the low volume of my living room TV and our breathing.
“Thank you, Toshi. I really appreciate that you’ll try for me.” I pulled away, already missing the hug but needing to say that to his face.
“Of course, love.” His hand came up to caress my face and I leaned into his touch.
The aching in my heart and body went away after discussing that with him. It was all just a bit miscommunication which was easily fixed after I expressed what I needed to.
I couldn’t be more content.

Love island Episode one: Coupling up.
a/n: it’s here! thank you to everyone who voted over this past week. here is the love island series. Mason has his pretty prince hair😍. villa is the 2019 UK love island villa, it will get better but i wanted to get the coupling up over with. anyways sorry if there is any mistakes, enjoy reading 🩰
Tumblr media
you’d never been this nervous before. sure you’d been nervous but never this bad. you had been scouted for love island by the producers and you thought you’d give it a go. you had a pretty big following being a model/influencer with just over 500k followers and this would be the perfect opportunity for you to finally find love instead of focusing on your job.
you walked into the villa in you hot pink bikini, you picked it because it would stand out and that’s what you wanted to do. you wanted to make a good first impression on whoever was in here. you made your way to the garden and saw four other girls meaning you were the last to enter before you saw Maya Jama.
“hey everyone” you said making the four girls turn towards you and scream with excitement. they met you halfway and one by one introduced themselves to you. “i’m Molly nice to meet you” she kissed you on the cheek and hugged you closely. the next girl hugged you “hi im Chloe” she hugged you.
“i’m Anna” she hugged you and kissed your cheek and then you finally moved onto the last girl “im Amber nice to meet you” you didn’t know what it was but the girls even though you hadn’t been in there long had all made you feel welcome already.
“i’m y/n, nice to meet you all” you were still nervous as Molly poured you a drink. “so, tell us about you y/n. what’s your type?” you took a sip of the champagne before starting. “well, i’m 22, in a model and influencer. my type is tall, tattoos, brown hair brown eyes, tanned skin, someone who’s athletic and don’t think i’m weird but i love noses” the girls laughed.
“don’t worry y/n, i’m with you on that one” Chloe laughed. “tell me about you girls then, we are gonna be living together for a while” you tucked your hair behind your ear as you listened to them.
Chloe started “well, i’m 25, i’m a marketing executive. my type is anyone who is taller than me to be honest. i don’t really have a type i usually go for. i like anyone, and i do have a thing for noses” you laughed again knowing that this was gonna be a recurring thing that you would all speak about.
“as you know i’m Molly, i’m 23 and i’m an influencer. my usual type is a tall brunette but i’m open to get to know everyone here” you nodded and then Anna started talking. “so i’m a pharmacist and my usual type is anyone taller than me, because i’m so tall i want someone taller than me”
to be honest Anna was very tall so it wasn’t a shock that she’d want someone taller than her. lastly Amber started talking “i’m a beautician so i do facials, lashes, lip filler, everything like that and my usual type is tall dark and handsome, i don’t know how else to explain it” you all laughed and then you all heard a voice behind you.
“hello girls” you turned towards the voice and saw Maya standing there. a few of the girls screamed, seeing her made this experience feel so much more real. “how about we all gather around the fire pit and have a chat?” all of you made your way over to the fire pit and sat down.
“so, Amber, tell me, how are you feeling about being here? are you nervous? excited?” Amber nodded “yeah i’m excited because you never know who’s gonna come through that door like it could be the love of my life” her gordie accent thick as she spoke.
you all laughed and nodded, you really never knew who was about to come through the door. “Chloe, do you think you could meet someone here? or are you skeptical about it all” Chloe shrugged “i’m pretty skeptical but i’m optimistic about the whole thing. i’m excited to meet everyone else”
“okay well, are we ready to meet some boys?” you all cheered and made your way over to the five love hearts that were by the pool. you were on the fourth heart in between Anna and Chloe. “right, remember girls that you can step forward for the guy you like but he can pick any one of you even if you don’t step forward” Maya spoke so you understood the rules.
“let’s welcome our first boy Ovie” you all looked toward the door and saw him, he was very good looking. you all clapped as he made his way down the steps. “you girls doing alright?” you all said yes as he stood next to Maya. “so girls, step forward if you like the look of Ovie” you looked at the girls and saw Anna, Chloe and Amber step forward.
“wow three girls stepping forward already. Amber, why did you step forward?” Maya questioned “he’s just really good looking, definitely my type” Ovie was shocked that three girls stepped forward for him. he was hoping for at least one let alone three.
“y/n, why didn’t you step forward?” you blushed “now don’t get me wrong you’re very good looking but i just want to see the other options before i step forward for someone” Ovie and Maya nodded understanding where you were coming from.
“okay Ovie you have three beautiful girls who have stepped forward for you but who have you decided you are going to pick?” he was silent for a few minutes before he finally spoke up “the girl i would like to couple up with is Anna” Anna clapped with excitement that Ovie picked her. to be honest when they stood next to each other they looked perfect together.
“okay, next boy we have coming in is Toby” you all clapped again as he made his way down the steps and you heard Chloe whisper ‘oh my god’. she liked him for definite. “okay girls, if you like the look of Toby please step forward” straight away Chloe stepped forward. Chloe was the only one who stepped forward for Toby.
“okay ones not bad” he said making you frown but you quickly changed your face back to normal. “Toby you have Chloe who has stepped forward for you, would you like to couple up with Chloe or would you like to couple up with someone else?” Maya said fidgeting on her feet.
“Chloe is beautiful so i’m going to couple up with Chloe” you all clapped as Toby made his way over to Chloe and he kissed her on her cheek. Chloe blushed and smiled happily that Toby picked her.
“Molly why haven’t you stepped forward for any of the boys?” Maya asked looking at her intensely. “they just aren’t my type really, i bet they’re lovely but i’m just waiting for that spark straight away” Maya nodded “okay well i think you may like this next boy then, please welcome Tommy”
Molly gasped as he made his way down the steps, she was in shock at how good looking he was. “okay girls, if you like the look of Tommy please step forward” Amber and Molly stepped forward. “wow two girls, didn’t expect that” Tommy said smiling widely. “well, Molly and Amber have stepped forward for you Tommy, who would you like to couple up with? remember you can pick someone who has stepped forward for you, in a couple or even a girl who hasn’t stepped forward.
Tommys eyes scanned through the girls before making his decision. “i would like to couple up with Molly” she jumped a little as Tommy picked her. “thank you for picking me” Molly said as she gave Tommy a hug and he kissed her on the cheek. “you’re welcome beautiful” she blushed brightly.
“okay girls, last two boys. y/n, do you think you will step forward? you haven’t stepped forward for anyone” you nodded “i know, i feel bad but no one has really caught my eye yet” Maya understood “hopefully someone will catch you eye” you agreed.
“okay girls welcome Curtis” you didn’t even like the sound of that name right off the bat and seeing him just solidified that for you. he was not your type at all. “okay girls, if you like the look of Curtis please step forward” you were not stepping forward. you didn’t want to just step forward because you had too, you were here for yourself.
it was silent for a few minutes and sadly no one stepped forward for Curtis. his smile faltered slightly before he quickly put it back on his face. “oh Curtis i’m sorry” Maya said and he just shrugged it off “it’s no bother, they just haven’t gotten to know me yet.” he replied.
“okay well don’t worry, you can couple up with any of these girls. who would you like to couple up with?” Maya continued “i would like to couple up with y/n” your heart dropped but you didn’t show your sadness, you just had to get on with it.
Curtis made his way over to you and gave you an awkward hug. “y/n, how are you feeling?” god you hated that she had to ask you that “oh uhh, i’m glad i got picked but i just didn’t see that initial attraction but i guess i don’t know Curtis?” you sounded like you were questioning yourself.
“okay well, let’s see our next boy. please welcome Mason” you turned your head toward the door and your heart started beating. there he was and you were in shock at how pretty he was. “hey everyone” he said, even his voice was sexy. “girls, if you like the look of Mason please step forward” straight away you stepped forward as did Chloe and Amber followed.
“wow y/n, i’m shocked. you actually stepped forward for someone” you blushed and laughed. “well, it glad she did step forward for me” Mason winked at you and you felt weak. he was making you feel things you’d never felt before.
“Mason you have the choice to couple up with any of these girls, who would you like to couple up with?” Mason answered straight away “y/n” you were ecstatic. “that means Curtis automatically couples up with Amber” Curtis walked over to Amber and Mason made his way over to you and kissed you on the cheek and pulled you into a nice hug. “nice to meet you” he said as you stepped back to the heart.
“nice to meet you too. thank you for choosing me” your body felt hot, he was the perfect man by looks, and he had a nice nose. “well, you’re a beautiful girl. i’m excited to get to know you” you locked eyes with him, his eyes were dark brown but in the sunlight you could see golden hues which were so pretty.
“okay guys, everyone is now coupled up. i’ll leave you too it and remember, if you don’t get to know anyone your place in the villa may be at risk. good luck” with that Maya left and it felt even more real. “should we go over to the swing? i want to know more about you” you nodded your head and smiled. Mason grabbed ahold of your hand and the two of you headed over to the swing.

‘tis my birthday today (it’s gotta be one of the worst birthdays to have, we don’t need to talk about it) anyways that’s where this is coming from
(also i’m not trying to imply that jan 1 is eddie’s bday. i wouldn’t wish that on anybody. besides, he is def a weirdo february aquarius)
The second half of the calendar year is nothing short of pandemonium for Eddie and Steve and their three daughters.
Moe’s birthday in late July kicks it off, almost immediately followed by Steve’s birthday in early August, then Hazel’s in September. Robbie’s birthday comes mere days after Halloween, and from there they dive headfirst into the bedlam of the holiday season.
Much to Eddie's relief, they all made it to yet another New Year's Day, and while the girls are definitely feeling the end-of-winter-break blues, Eddie welcomes the reprieve in festivities, brief as it may be.
His own birthday is up next – though not for another month.
He’s really not a birthday kind of guy. Never had been.
He loves making birthdays exciting for Steve and their daughters (they have a whole slew of traditions and everything – there’s names spelled out in pancakes involved; it's a very big deal), but his own…not so much.
It managed to fly under the radar for the past few years, but since this year is the big Five-Oh, he knows Steve won’t let him get away with that again.
Eddie has a complicated relationship with his birthday. When he was younger and the weight of Birthday Importance was at its peak, he never really celebrated the way other kids got to, and now, as an adult, he doesn’t know how to feel the things you’re supposed to feel about your birthday.
Steve does a good job, despite Eddie’s weirdness.
His favorite, Eddie thinks, was the year Moe was born, when Steve had managed to catch him off guard by renting a tiny cottage up in Maine for a few days.
“Moe or no Moe,” Steve had asked, “I’ve got Rob and Nance on standby.”
(They’d taken Moe. She saw snow for the first time. It was amazing, and people who don't want to involve their kids in stuff are a bunch of fucking weirdos).
Steve gives him a letter every year – handwritten on notebook paper and folded into whatever cheesy card he picks out.
Eddie keeps most of the letters in a fireproof lockbox along with all their passports and social security cards and birth certificates (look – Eddie doesn’t fuck around with priceless shit), but he keeps the most recent one – the one Steve gave him for his forty-ninth birthday nearly a year ago – in the top drawer of his bedside table.
He has it pretty much memorized at this point.
It says:
Ed! (with an exclamation point and everything – god, does Eddie love him)
49.
Holy shit we’re getting old.
Writing this is making me think about all the ones from the beginning, when I’d write about our future together even though we didn’t have a damn clue what we were working towards for a while.
I think we’re in it, man. Crazy, right?
(The ink color suddenly switches from blue to purple)
Sorry for the color change. Hazy decided she needed a blue pen immediately. Hope your vision hasn’t gone totally to shit and you can still read the purple.
Anyways, since I have you hostage reading this, I’m gonna take the opportunity to discuss you, because you don’t let me in real life most of the time.
You are gorgeous. Best looking face I’ve ever seen. I wonder how much time I’ve lost off my day just staring at you (actually, not a loss. I take that back)
You suck at puzzles – I know that sounds bad, but it’s great for me. I need that to rub off on Moe because she’s getting pretty good and that’s gonna be a problem for me.
You make me laugh so fucking hard every day. I’m praying the girls get your sense of “elevated” humor or whatever you like to call it
You’re so fucking smart, Eddie. I count myself lucky for it endlessly
You are completely 100% you all the time. I’m still working on that I think but I’m getting there because of you. I’m glad all that shit we went through didn’t take that away from you.
the BEST dad. Can’t believe I didn’t say that sooner. Not to brag but our kids are turning out pretty awesome (can’t go around saying that too much though it’ll go right to their heads and then any power we have left goes out the window)
You’re probably the best person I’ve ever known. Don’t think I’ll be forgetting what a catch you are any time soon, because I won't.
Thank you for loving me even all these years later. My life is better every day that I’m with you.
We’ll keep things quiet this year. Don’t get used to it though. Next year’s gonna be a rager.
Love you always!
- Steve :) ♡ ☆

suzume no tojimari spoilers ! hi guys im Insane
literature analysis brain is going haywire so here’s a bunch of incoherent ramblings some themes motifs and symbolism i love in this movie because AAAAAAA
Love and Sacrifice.
Obviously, but like the different kinds of love and devotion and how they’re never perfect and sometimes self-destructive but they’re so powerful and just waughhh. It was so important to me how after exploding at her Tamaki (suzume’s aunt, ik im not the only one who forgets names) was like “you know I don’t feel that way all the time, right?” like not denying that yes, she has felt exhausted of taking care of Suzume and sometimes wished she didn’t have to take care of her, trying to be the parental figure she needs while also trying to not encroach on her sister’s memory. It means so much to me that she didn’t deny those feelings but instead told Suzume that it’s not how she always feels, because loving someone means sacrifice and ewughghgghfgfh im not putting this into words well but htrggfhgf.
and ALSO the reciprocation of kindness with daijin - as thanks for the taste of freedom at last, and wanting to be with someone whom you love but not really comprehending that what they want (that “suzume doesn’t love me” killed me) and how by the end daijin helped her pull souta out and sacrificed himself for suzume because he really loved her ggrgfggfhfnfnch
And just. everyday love. This is kind of a mix of themes and motifs but every time we flashed back to the memories of whatever abandoned place they were in - the simple “good morning”s and “be back soon” and “it’s so hot”s made me choke up. the mundane love of Chika and Suzume in their newly found friendship, Rumi’s kindness in picking Suzume up off the street and her love for her children, Serizawa’s platonic love for Souta letting him drive these two crazy women with crazy beef for 7 hours across Japan, there’s just so much expression of love and the hardships people go through because of it and rhgrjgrjhgdhgjhb
Mourning and Closure.
Makoto Shinkai himseld said that he wanted to write a story about “mourning deserted places” (at least according to Wikipedia) so this one is all but textual but like yeah. the motif of opening/closing/locking doors and locking the bike and things like that? AaAAaAaa
To close the gates, you need to imagine the emotions of people who once lived there - i can only imagine what Souta was thinking in the abandoned bathhouse area, but hrhggejghw the school and the amusement park and the shots we got of normal life in tokyo before the worm revealed itself in the climax, it just. really speaks to the beauty of everyday life. im a sucker for that kind of stuff as both a psychology major and just a weird person who thinks “man i wonder what happened to this person for the past 22 years of their life that led them to be here with me in this moment” whenever i pass someone in the grocery store. Hodaka could let japan be flooded in weathering with you because of his love for hina, but suzume’s whole arc was learning about the common people and living their lives and embracing all the kindness they had to offer to herself and others and it really hits that like. of course she can’t just let tokyo get destroyed to save Souta, every person in all of tokyo is just like Rumi and Chika and Serizawa and they’re all people who love and are loved. She finds herself in Souta’s place as one who stretches himself thin between being a gate closer and studying to be a teacher because he loves life as well, and-
oops i forgot i was talking about mourning and closure
anyway the doors keep getting reopened because the grief never fully goes away and the worm of “calamity” is letting yourself be consumed by the grief and destroying the people around you and not being able to move on, and it comes from the Ever-after becomes ever-after is a place where time doesn’t exist and you wish you could be there forever because it’s where you can relive the events of your past, it’s where you can live in denial that time moves forward and you have to move with it, it’s where Suzume goes after her mother dies because she wants people to stop giving her condolences and just give her her mom back. “Ever-after” in itself is a “happily ever after” - a place where mortals aren’t meant to go, no matter how beautiful it looks. Souta goes there too because he is the catalyst Suzume needs to go back and face Ever-after - and it’s no longer beautiful, but it’s torn apart by grief and everything is in flames. The idea of a keystone as well, locking the memories and hurt away, is one that Suzume removes to relive her memories and puts back in place when she’s ready to move on. htrhgfhgfghfghf. she won’t let souta be the keystone because she refuses to move on without him.
Also both Souta and his grandfather tell Suzume to just forget everything she’s seen, but it’s too late for that because connections aren’t so easily forgotten. Even when Tamaki couldn’t remember telling Suzume she’d be her new mother, that doesn’t change that she cared for her for the next 12 years anyway. Suzume visits Chika and Rumi by the end, and obviously she’s never forgotten her mother, both because her chair was still in her room by the start of the movie and because she looks like her by the end. Even though relationships change, they’re never forgotten in the movie, and I think that’s beautiful, really.
(also cool detail: 12 years ago is when the tsunami that killed suzume’s mother struck. the movie came out in 2023, and the touhoku earthquake/tsunami that inspired this film was in 2011. nice)
Reality vs Fantasy
The scenes where Suzume goes out into public again following stopping the worm from destroying Tokyo were especially poignant to me. This girl’s been going on a fantastical adventure with her talking chair and talking cat, meeting nice people and making friends, excited at the idea that she’s doing something important, but after Souta’s gone she shuts down. Her feet are bloodied, her clothes are destroyed, and people keep giving her strange looks and calling her homeless because she may have stopped the worm but even without being consumed by grief, it still isn’t pretty or picturesque. Standing out in Japanese society is discouraged, as most of us are well aware, but she’s been doing nothing but that with all the running around and talking to chairs and flying through the sky she’s been doing. Without a concrete goal in mind, without Souta as company, she’s alone in the world of adulthood and has no one to tell her what she should do, no Souta to guide her through Tokyo. And without that confidence or charm, people don’t come to her aid like they did before. It’s only once she finds her resolve to save Souta, quite literally walking in his shoes/footsteps, that the next helpful stranger (Serizawa) comes in.
She could imagine those abandoned places as alive, but the truth is that they were abandoned and will stay that way - none of them miraculously revived by the end, unless something happened in the credits that I couldn’t see through all my tears. Reality will not bring those places back, but what really matters is how we carry the memories of those places with us? I think. man maybe it’d be easier to write this post if i had actually seen the end credits
this post is really fucking long so im calling it here 😭 makoto shinkai has done it again. goddammit

Your girl needs to know what happens in Part 5. Does Joe ACTUALLY sleep with someone else?! Does he ever get his Tupperware back?! Can’t wait for the next installment!!!!
well, we MADE him, didn't we? here's the last part <3 I hope you all enjoy! (and, for the last time, this is 18+ and you shouldnt read when 17 or younger, so kindly fuck off if you are underage thanks) Wordcount: 4.3K
---
More Than This
Tumblr media
part one - part two - part three - part four - part five
You were fine.
You didn’t know why you knocked over about five cups when going to grab just the one from the cabinet, but you were fine.
Joe hadn’t texted you in over two weeks.
You were fine.
You ordered a whole new wardrobe on Asos, one you definitely didn’t have the budget for, but you were fine.
Two weeks.
Fine.
You didn’t really want to text another hook-up, but then when you finally did, they said they were busy, and you were so totally fine.
It was sort of mad how fine you were.
Sixteen days and counting. So fine.
It didn’t even really do anything to you when you had to throw out your own left-overs, some chicken corn korma that you’d kept in one of Joe’s Tupperware containers, because it was just... it was bad. You didn’t know how to cook and how to make things taste nice, and if you were being honest, it was already not the best the first time ‘round. You weren’t even sure why you kept the rest of it to eat at another time.
You were fine as you tipped it over into the bin.
Then you looked at the empty tub, bin still open, and threw that in as well.
Fine.
You knew that you weren’t going to see Joe again.
You had his T-shirt now, and considered it a weird sort of momentum. A parting gift. A here you go, keep this part of me and let it teach you something piece of clothing for you to keep in a drawer and forget about eventually.
You’d worn the T-shirt like he’d asked, and he was going to have sex with at least two other people like you’d asked. You had only half-realised that all of it kind of meant the end of whatever you and Joe had going before.
Joe wasn’t made for what you asked of him.
Joe wasn’t just going to have sex with two random people and then text you to reconnect.
Joe was going to woo someone off their feet and then fall in love with them immediately and you’d change from the girl he texted whenever he wanted to get his dick wet to a small little part of his past that he’d forget about eventually.
Like you’d forget about his T-shirt in that one drawer you never fucking used.
Bit by bit, the big bag of wet cement slowly set into something solid. The solid thing being that you’d never see Joe again.
That made you all kinds of uncomfortable because that wasn’t what you wanted. But it was predictable. And you liked predictability, so you were fine.
Sometimes it was nice to drop a pen, because you knew the next step would be to pick it up.
Sometimes you’d drink until you felt sick because that meant you knew exactly how you’d feel in the morning.
That last time had been the real last time. Problem was, if that was true, you should’ve started putting defences in place before that last time had actually happened. And you hadn’t. So now for whatever stupid reason your heart felt all heavy, and Sarah was forward enough to approach you about it at work.
“You don’t quite seem like yourself...”
And she was right. You didn’t feel like yourself at all.
“I know, I’m sorry. I’m just... distracted, I guess. Is it obvious?”
Of course it was fucking obvious. You saw how Sarah’s eyes scanned all the baby hairs around the perimeter of your face, none of them smoothed down into your hair, but all wild, standing up and visible. She gave an empathetic smile filled with pity.
“Oh poppet,” she started and clasped your shoulder. “It just feels like you lost yourself a little. Maybe see if you can go find her again.”
Yea, well, what if you did and you didn’t like her? Would rather have her be lost still?
You were fine. Your comfort zone was inside the predictability of it all – not in comfort.
None of this was comfortable.
But you were fine.
You’d been fine for sixteen days and were mentally preparing for that number to turn into seventeen when your phone buzzed.
“hi”
Fuck.
A million thoughts happened at once. What did Joe texting hi even mean?
There wasn't much else to do but to keep your cards close to your chest and carefully dip a toe in.
“hi”
Safe.
“are you at home rn?”
“yes”
You'd not even seen the second blue checkmark fully appear before the doorbell rang. That was stupidly quick and revealed Joe'd made his way over to your flat before even checking if you were in.
Unpredictable.
Yikes.
This wasn't following any of the scripts that you knew. Was Joe coming over for what he always came over for? Or was he there for an adult conversation to end whatever the two of you had been for a couple of months? Half a year. Actually, just over half a year, if you were really counting.
Joe seemed like the type of guy to need a concluding chat.
Yea he was probably - definitely - there to tell you how messed up you were and then be all nice, tell you shit like, you deserve better, or whatever.
You let Joe into the building and went to wait by the front door to your flat. Stood in the doorway, leant against the doorframe and tried to imagine what you looked like to Joe. What he'd see when he'd walk up, and you didn't know how to hold yourself. What to do with your face. Were you going to up the sexy? Were you going to cross your arms over your chest and keep to yourself? Look all happy? Sort of sad? Why was Joe even here?
Anxiety got a hold of you in a way you didn't like.
There was no control.
How could you take back some control?
When you heard footsteps coming down the hallway, you took one step out and leant forward to see him.
Mistake.
Mistake, mistake, mistake.
Your legs moved and moved fast before your brain even knew what was happening. You were running. Felt emotion thick in your throat as your legs carried your seemingly weightless body over to crash itself into Joe.
Joe was just quick enough to shake his hands from his pockets and to brace for impact.
You audibly knocked the wind right out of him, and then for a moment, you just stood there. Arms around his neck, legs around his waist, side of your face pressed tightly against his.
Now what?
Just hold, your brain said. Just hold him for a bit.
“Hey,” Joe whispered, grip strengthening for a second, shifting and adjusting his hold on you to slowly start moving towards your flat.
“Hi,” you said back and you hated how that sounded like you were about to cry, because you weren't. You weren't going to cry. There wasn't anything to cry about.
What was going to happen when you made it into your flat? Once that door closed? You didn't have much time to think about it, just let it happen. When the door fell into its lock behind you as Joe shut it, the sudden silence and privacy made you lean back enough to get your face in front of Joe's.
He kissed you immediately.
Predictable.
Amazing.
You were fine.
This was script you knew how to follow.
Joe inhaled you, pressed his nose into your cheek and licked his way into your mouth like a starved man. Made you feel totally fine about sneaking your hands under the straps of his backpack to get them off of his shoulders before you tried to do the same for his jacket.
Joe put you down because he had to. Didn't stop the kissing, though.
“Did you,” you started, had to stop because Joe was very persistent about his lips staying close to yours. “Did you do what I asked?”
You had no idea how you wanted him to answer that question, but you needed to know.
“I did,” Joe breathed, and upon learning that, you knew exactly how you had wanted Joe to answer that question.
No.
This was the wrong answer. The bad answer. Joe wasn't to listen to you. You were an idiot, did he not know?
“Was awful,” Joe shook his jacket down his arms and got his fingers on the buttons of his shirt. “Never make me do that again.”
And, oh my God.
That was the sexiest shit Joe'd ever said to you.
Made you pull him into you by his belt loops which he welcomed greedily.
Yours. This was all yours. Fuck those other girls.
You both knew the pathway to your bed blindly and made your way there like you had so many times before. Clothes dropping to the floor, more skin finding more skin to touch, and to grab, and to squeeze, and to bite. Mouths barely left each other, hungry kisses shared, and when you reached the bed, Joe blindly reached for your bedside table in preparation for what he was there for.
You saw how his fingers found the metal drawer pull, and noticed Joe was wearing a hair tie around his wrist.
Yours.
That was your hair tie - the thick, good one. The one you'd turned the whole bathroom upside down for because you hadn't been able to find it.
Must have left it over at his the last time you'd been there.
The drawer got pulled open, but then, Joe stopped himself. He let you drop onto your bed on your back, just in your underwear and a lone sock now, and hovered over you a second before he said, "Wait, hang on," and took small jogging steps out of your bedroom. Confused, you sat up enough to lean onto your elbows, to hang into your shoulders.
What.
Down your hallway, you heard rustling of fabric. A zipper.
Joe was getting something from his backpack.
Then footsteps that... didn't come back towards your bedroom, but instead turned into your living room. Your kitchen.
What the fuck.
You got up and decided to go investigate.
Never in a fucking million years could you have predicted what you walked in on.
You'd just walked in on Joe, half naked, stood in front of your opened fridge whilst he held onto his opened backpack, shoving Tupperware container after Tupperware container onto the glass shelves.
“Um, what the fuck are you doing?”
Joe looked over his shoulder a little sheepishly. “I've got– there's just a lot, I don't– they're just some left-overs, don't worry about it,” Joe stumbled through his explanation as he kept neatly stacking tubs.
Big sigh.
“No, Joe. Stop it, no,” you walked over, rushed a little panicked with anxiety in your legs, and reached up to start reversing whatever Joe was doing. Wanted to get all of the colourful pastas back into Joe's backpack.
“Just– have it,” Joe fought back, moved around your arms and managed to avoid them for a bit.
“You can't– I–” you grabbed his wrist, caught him. The one with your hair tie on.
For a moment you both just stood there, frozen in place. Your eyes were trained on where you were holding Joe, and then he saw that you'd seen. That was your hair tie around Joe's wrist.
Deep breaths, everyone.
“You cannot do this, Joe. This isn't, we're not– we just have sex and that's it, all right? Don't feed me– you can't just fill up my fridge with food, that's not how this works...”
Unsuccesful in the eye-contact department, you got the words out that you wanted to get out and felt oddly proud of yourself.
Maybe this is what Sarah meant when she said to go and find yourself.
You successfully moved his arm down, the one that held the fifth Tupperware container that he'd tried to get into your fridge. The both of you looked at it as he placed it down on the counter, but didn't let go just yet. He left his hand on top because the counter was just a temporary spot for it, wasn't it?
It'd go into the fridge alongside all the other ones, Joe thought.
It'd go back into his backpack, you knew, as you closed the fridge door.
Then Joe sighed, and asked, “Why?”
“Because,” easy answer.
Joe had gone and slept with two other people and had hated it but he'd done it just so he could get back into bed with you. Into bed. Bed. Where you touched each other inappropriately. That was all you were. And you were fine with that.
“Well,” Joe started, voice a little softer than before. “What if I want to?”
No.
“You can't,”
Joe finally let go of the left-overs and turned to face you a little more.
“I can't want this?” his hands searched for yours and found them. Curling them into his chest, he held you there a second.
“No,” you swallowed. “You're not allowed.”
That made Joe groan, drop your hands and roll his whole head at you rather than just his eyes.
“Well, tough. I still want to. I want to share my left-overs with you.”
You were about to interupt and interject with your wise words of keeping the distance, but Joe beat you to it. “Yes, I want to get you in the bed and,” Joe gestured with a wild arm. “Do all of that,”
“We're very good at all of that,”
“We are,” Joe smiled, and it felt like the first little bit of warmth from him. It was nice agreeing on something together.
“But I also want to, I don't know,” Joe's eyes darted around, tried to find the answers as if they were scattered around your kitchen. “Take you to dinner, I want to go for drinks, take you- there's a play I really want to see and I want to take you with me to go see it together, I'm just... I can't pretend I don't want those things anymore. I'm done pretending.”
Fuck Joe and his big wet brown eyes. All rounded. All soft.
“I don't think you've ever pretended,” you scoffed, and in a stupid baby voice Joe said, “I'm bad at pretending,”
You barked a laugh because of how stupid that statement was.
“You're an actor,”
“Well, you see?” Joe started, and like it was the most natural thing to do, he pulled your hair tie from his wrist and started swiping your hair back. Got all of it out of your face. “It's a testament of how much I want it,” and with big boy hands far too scared to hurt you, Joe tried tieing your hair up whilst stood in front of you. If you shook your head twice, the hair tie would slip right back out, but Joe was pleased with what he'd done and took hold of you by the shoulders to duck down and look you in the eye. “Want you.”
“I'm...” you closed your eyes a second, tried to regroup, and managed to straighten your shoulders. “I'm sorry. I can't.”
“Why? Why don't you want more?”
“I'm not... I'm not made for more.”
You truly believed you weren't. You were good at what you were currently doing. Anything that came closer, that tried to break through your walls, was scary and intimidating and you didn't need any of that.
But Joe didn't really care about your walls.
Sure, you'd built those presumably so no one could hurt you. But Joe could see that without anyone checking in on you in there, you had free range to keep hurting yourself over and over and over and over.
Joe wasn't trying to break down walls to hurt you.
Joe was trying to break down walls to stop you from hurting yourself.
“Do you like me?”
Easy question. You'd been sleeping with each other for months.
“Yes.”
That was hardly vulnerable.
"Good, because I love you."
Like a clean chef's knife that had just been sharpened, that pierced right through your chest without any resistance. It angered you immediately. Shot blood straight into your face where you felt the skin just underneath your eyes heat up.
“Fuck you.” you spat, because what the fuck was Joe doing?!
“Fuck me because I love you?” Joe remained stupidly calm, just asked for clarification with raised eyebrows.
He was impossible.
“Why are you– you're messing– why are you messing everything up?” you genuinly didn't understand. What you had going was fine, wasn't it? It was fun enough for Joe to come back to you. It was fun enough for you to actively miss it while you didn't have it. Why was Joe so adamant to stop all of the fun?
What you hadn't considered though, was how much of it wasn't fun for Joe.
“It's what people do!” Joe started, voice raised because, you just weren't getting it, were you? “They go to concerts together, to artshows, they go out in the daytime, they spend a lot of time together until they miss each other so much when they're apart, they buy a house together, and then they get married and then–”
“What's wrong with what we're doing? It's working. We don't have to argue, we don't have to fight, we don't–”
“Yea, well, what if I want to fight?”
“I don't want to fight,” you pulled the loose elastic from your hair, undoing Joe's barely there ponytail and held onto the hair tie.
Had Joe worn this around his wrist since the last time you'd been over? Had he worn it when he'd been with those other girls?
“Do you like me?” Joe asked, stepping forward. Closer. You kept your eyes trained on the hair tie that you were twisting around your fingers. Joe closed his palm over it and made you look up at him before he asked again, “Do you like me?”
“Joe...”
“It's the only thing that matters. Do you like me?”
“You know I like you,”
Joe studied your face for a moment before he cleared his throat and nodded.
“Good.”
Then he stepped back, got back to the left-overs and picked up the Tupperware that had been left out on the counter before opening the fridge again.
“All right,” he said, looking over his shoulder and holding up the last tub, “This is fettuchini alfredo,” which he then placed inside. Then, he started tapping every other container of his left-overs and explained what each of them were.
“That's- carbonara, regular bolognaise, baked feta pasta and I tried a crispy gnocchi that's, actually, never mind, this one's bad, I tried to follow a recipe and I don't think it turned out right, it's–”
Joe was about to remove the crispy gnocchi, but you stopped him.
“It's all pasta...” you stared at your fridge, all filled up.
“Yea, well... you like pasta. It's always the left-over pasta that I find rogue forks stuck in...”
Joe was a sap, you thought, like the thought of Joe specifically making all kinds of different pasta dishes for you didn't make your chest swell.
There was something difinitive about you letting Joe put that last Tupperware container in the fridge and closing the door.
You liked Joe, and apparently that was all that mattered.
All right.
That sounded easy enough, didn't it?
“You're still Joe No Twist in my phone,” it was a joke, but it wasn't. Joe really was Joe No Twist still.
“Be with me.”
That made you recoil.
“No.” you said through a snorted laugh that, if you clocked it correctly, got a little grin out of Joe as well. “But I'll eat your pasta.”
It was as good as it was going to get for now, you were afraid.
“Even the crispy gnocchi?”
Joe was going to take it.
“Even the crispy gnocchi.”
“Are you sure? It's really bad.” Arms reached out and found yours to pull in for a hug.
“Mhmm, I'm going to love it.”
For a while, you stood in your kitchen and hugged. Were hugged by Joe in a sort of all consuming manner where it felt like his arms looped around you twice. Proper good embrace.
Kisses were pressed into your hair. A few, and then a lot, and then one longer last one.
“Okay. Good. I'm heading out.” Joe grabbed you by the face and gave you a peck.
Just a quick chaste peck right on the lips.
“Remember, hob, pan, olive oil,”
Confusion. Joe was going to leave and your bedroom didn't smell of condom lube.
“What, but we didn't...”
“Yea, I'm gonna... I'm going to start doing that now. Come over and keep my clothes on the whole time.” Joe found his backpack and zipped it closed.
“The whole time?”
“The whole time.”
Stupid smirk. Made you slump your shoulders because Joe thought he was being funny.
“So boring.”
It sucked that he kind of was being funny.
You followed Joe out into the hallway where you watched him step back into the clothes he'd gotten out of with your help a little earlier. Weird. This was so weird.
If you thought about it, Joe had just come over to kiss you and touch you a little bit, and then... that was it. Left food in your fridge and was now going to leave.
This was new territory and it was unpredictable and you didn't like it.
You liked things that were known.
Of which you knew the script.
Where you held all the control.
And then, in a fleeting moment of confidence, you opened your mouth and just let your thoughts come out.
“Hey, um... before you, before you go, do you– are you doing anything on Sunday?”
“This upcoming one?” Joe pressed a heel into a shoe and looked up at you from his bent over position. “Why?”
“I've got this...”
Oh fucking fuck. You were going to do this. You'd started it and had quickly felt every single ounce of pride leave your body, and now you had to finish it all raw.
Joe saw how you tried to power through, but it was so awkward, he couldn't help but stand up straight and give you his undivided attention for a second.
Something felt off. Important. This was new territory, Joe understood.
“So, I'm heading over to Norwich,” you pointed over your shoulder, which made no sense, but made you feel a bit more casual about the whole thing. “Because my cousin, she's... she's getting married, or whatever, it's honestly– no big deal,”
You were struggling, and if Joe was honest, he kind of loved it. Couldn't help the little smile that snuck onto his face.
“You're going to your cousin's wedding?”
“Yea,”
“On Sunday?”
“Mhmm,” you nodded, and Jesus Christ, you were shaking.
It was obvious what you meant. Come with me, you mentally shouted at him, but didn't let the words escape you.
“Wow... that's quite a leap,”
Oh no, Joe was going to be a little shit about it.
“Artshow, gig, a dinner, sure... but, a wedding of a family member?”
“Shut up.”
You were well aware. Didn't need Joe pointing it out. You were trying, okay? Felt like you'd ripped open your chest and were letting Joe get a look at all of your secrets. Secrets that were making him purse his lips into a sly little smile that you didn't like the look of.
Your shut up got a hearty laugh out of Joe, one of his deep ones that you knew you were going to hear the echoes of hours later.
Instead of answering though, Joe collected his things. Slung his backpack, now empty and weightless, over his shoulders and went to open the door.
“So, you're going to a wedding...” Joe started, said it all slow like he was contemplating something, and then stepped out of your flat.
“Sounds cool.” Joe said over his shoulder, face practically beaming with joy. “Have fun.”
And then he left.
Just, walked away.
The little shit.
Motherfucker.
And yea, all right, you deserved that a little didn't you?
But, what the fuck?
Joe had just turned down a daytime activity with you.
Joe was always asking you to go do things with him and you always turned him down.
That was how it was. What you were. The asker and the turn-downer.
Joe was a dickhead.
And, why the fuck could you not stop smiling?
About five minutes later, when you'd already dumped a full container of left-overs, the crispy gnocchi, into a pan with a little bit of olive oil as instructed by Joe, your phone buzzed.
You'd barely heard it over the noise of the extractor fan, but your lit-up screen caught your attention.
Text.
You got a text from Joe No Twist.
“What colour's your dress?”
Motherfucker.
You smiled at your phone and decided to text back later. Let him wait a little bit. Pay him back for the shit he'd just pulled.
But then a follow-up text came in.
“If you don't tell me we won't match”
Yea, you liked Joe.
You liked Joe and, like he'd said, that was the only thing that really mattered.
Later you'd text Joe a picture of your dress, and you'd tell him his gnocchi fucking sucked.
Everything was fine.
Fine.
And you liked Joe.
That was the only thing that really mattered.
the end

Eddie x reader hurt/comfort. Eddie moves out of Hawkins maybe makes it to Indianapolis. Reader isn’t from Hawkins and didn’t go to high school with Eddie. She does know the extent of the bullying he went through in the town. Eddie does something weird one day as a joke, he licks her face or something. Jokingly reader calls him a freak. It causes some bad memories to come up and upsets him. Reader doesn’t understand why he’s withdrawn and upset. Eddie and reader have a heart to heart about Eddie’s past and she comforts him.
Small blurb
I hope this is what you wanted and you enjoy it. Thank you for requesting <3
Tumblr media
Y/N lived in a small town, and she knew everyone. So when she spotted a handsome guy, with long hair, and looking lost as he held a guitar case, she knew he was new. She walked up to him, and they hit it off. She showed him around the town and talked a little about themselves.
Months later, they were in a relationship. Eddie was happier than ever about his decision to leave home. He had no reminders of Hawkins and it was healing.
Y/N didn't know that he was known as a freak and loser in his hometown. He got to pick how she knew him, and the things she learned about him. He was able to hide that dark past from her.
But it popped up in ways he didn't think about. Seeing her lips form the words, and the sound of her sweet voice calling him a freak.
They were joking around, he grabbed her face and licked from her chin to her eye. She laughed and shoved him off.
"You freak!" She said it with love and affection. But the name already triggered him. It was like his body could feel all the punches and kicks over again. The chants of freak came out of the whole school's mouths.
Y/N looked at Eddie confused as he froze in his seat. His eyes locked on his lap as his hands gripped his knees. She called his name over and over but he didn't move an inch. His lips were in a tight line, his big smile gone.
"Eddie?" She asked again, her hands landing on his leg. Her touch made him flinch, his eyes finally looking at her.
"Hm?" He asked, shrugging off the moment he had.
"You okay? You kinda just froze on me." She said she held his hand as she looked at him worriedly.
"Yeah, I'm fine. It's just...freak...brings up bad memories." Eddie tried to explain. He didn't want to go into much detail about it, but he knew she'd ask.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't mean it. " She apologized quickly, moving closer to Eddie.
"I know you didn't mean it. You didn't know what I dealt with so it's okay." He reassured her but he could see in her eyes that she was worried.
"Do you want to talk about it?" She asked
"Not a lot. I like that you don't know me as the freak in my hometown. I like that you just know me as Eddie."
"I understand that, but I promise I won't look at you differently." Eddie knew that was something she couldn't promise, but hearing it still made him feel better.
"In high school, I lived in a trailer, I lived with my uncle and we didn't have much money. So I sold drugs to save up. My friends and I were in a band, playing gigs to also make money. I sold a lot to popular kids and one girl had a crazy jealous boyfriend. He was out to get me all the time. Said I had relations with the devil and made up shit. He turned everyone against me, all because I was a freak." Eddie explained, Y/N felt her heart break as Eddie chewed on his lip and looked at the floor.
"Everything I heard in that story just made me like you even more. You were just trying to make money for you and your uncle. I admire that." Eddie couldn't lie, those words filled his body with warmth.
"Really?" Eddie asked, his voice quiet as he looked up at her.
"Really" she whispered, softly pecking his lips. She pulled away and wrapped her arms around him. Eddie melted into her hug, squeezing her tightly.
She pulled back with a smile on her face.
"Sounds like the jock was intimidated by you. He saw you as a threat." Y/N winked, nudging Eddie's shoulder as she teased.
"I bet it was because of your smile and eyes." Y/N complimented, loving how a smile filled his face.
"Thank you." He said
She cupped his face and licked him back. His loud laugh filled the space between them.
All he needed to do was find someone who liked every part of him.

Being single during winter sucks, because you want to get warm cuddling somebody but you don’t have anyone to cuddle with and you end up cuddling your cat. So, there you were now, laid on your sofa, the snow falling down on your window, and many scratches in your arms because your cat didn’t want to cuddle you after all.
Fuck being single.
Bored out of your ass with the movie you got on tv, you picked up your phone and took a picture of you on the sofa, all covered in blankets, and an evil cat on your feet. Pressing the share button, you looked for your best friend’s contant when a notification popped on your phone but you bluntly ignored it and sent the picture to your friend with a message “no one to cuddle, not even Mr McFluffler”.
However, you didn’t send it to your friend. You sent it on your work group chat.
In one of your dumbest moves, you mixed the chats together and sent it by mistake to all of your work mates. The notification, a message from your colleague Wally, had propped the group chat further up on your chats list and you clicked on it accidentally.
You sent them a picture of you, on your pajamas, crying because you were fucking single. Fuck me, fuck me, fuck me, fuuuck.
Luckily, you had fast fingers, deleting the picture faster than the Flash could make it to England.
No one saw it, Yn. Relax. You were fast, faster than the Flash. Nobody noticed. And if they did, so what, it was just a silly picture. It could be worse, you could’ve sent them nudes. You tried calming yourself up, trying to assure yourself everything was going to be fine, and like clockwork, your superior answered Wally’s message as if yours was never sent.
A couple minutes had passed and you’d already sent a message to your friend, you two laughing over the whole situation, when you heard your doorbell ring. Weird, you hadn’t ordered food nor were you waiting for any visitors.
Jumping up from the sofa, you ran to the window, looking to see who the hell was knocking at your door at this hour, on this day, and in this godforsaken weather.
“Wally?” you asked, rushing to your door. “What are you doing here? How do you know where I live?”
It didn’t make sense. You’d barely speak at work, exchanging a few words every day, but that was it. Wally was fun, joked with everybody and never made you feel uncomfortable, you just weren’t close.
He did, indeed, make you a feel a bit nervous though, but that was silly, a silly little work crush that would never go anywhere because he he made you so nervous you were never being able to come up with a good comeback to keep the conversation going, usually just smiling like a dumbass and avoiding him for the rest of the day.
Yay!
“I tracked your phone.” he simply stated, as if it was nothing. Brushing you off, he took off his winter jacket and walked past you inside your home, your eyes wide open and questioning his entire demeanor. “You want a cuddle right?”
What?!
“What?!” you nearly screamed, feeling the burn growing on your cheeks, almost running back inside and hiding away in your bedroom.
“You sent a picture, sugar.” he explained nonchalantly. “You wanted to cuddle, because your cat wouldn’t?”
This can be real, you thought, just can’t be. “It was a mistake, I was supposed to send it to my friend and we were just joking.” you tried to explain, the words jumping out of your mouth before you really could process them, too overwhelmed by the sudden situation you found yourself in.
“So you don’t wanna cuddle?” he asked, stopping in his tracks, almost at your living room.
“I-I mean, I would like to cuddle, it’s just…”
“So let’s cuddle then.” he said, disappearing into your house and leaving you frozen at the door. You didn’t understand what made him come all the way to your house, and how fast he had done it. Why would he do that? Why? It was just, so confusing. It didn’t make sense. Your mind was doing turns and turns trying to think, trying to react, trying to process everything that was happening. “You really gonna stay outside in the cold?”
His scream broke you from your thoughts and you closed the door behind you as you headed to the living room to meet him. There, to your surprise once again, Wally had his long ass legs covered with one of the blankets, your cat, that treacherous bitch,  purring on his lap as he caressed his orange fur, an unexpected match with his hair, with one of his hands while the other rested over the couch.
“I’m really confused.” you said, eyebrows crushed together. “Why are you here, West?”
“You ask too many questions, you know that?” he said, completely entertained by the cat on his lap. “You sent a picture complaining you didn’t have anyone to cuddle with. It’s cold, I also don’t have anyone to cuddle with, so I’m offering myself to fulfill your needs. And mine.”
“We’re not even friends…”
“Yn… We’re just gonna cuddle. Or are you thinking of something els…”
“No!”
“Then come here.” he grabbed you by the arm and onto the sofa, slamming against his chest as you fell down with him. He covered you with the same blanket he had over his legs and pulled you close, too uncomfortably close, and put his arm over your shoulder.
You had to be honest, you felt very comfortable cuddling Wally West, his warmth emanating from his body and embracing yours, making it all just… perfect. You dared to put your hand over his waist, but your cat bit it before you could do so.
Son of a bitch, you told him mentally. Wally’s chuckle stole your attention away, though, as he petted the devil, er, the animal that stretched on his lap. “You can hug me now, Yn. He won’t bother you anymore.”
Blushing, you were reluctant to do so, but Wally’s hand pulled yours to wrap them around his torso. “See, this is fine.”
You rested your head on his shoulder as you felt the hours passing, his own head resting atop yours. You watched two or three movies, cozied up to each other in what was a position you could get more and more used to.
It was then that a loud rumble had you lifting from your position and facing your coworker. “Are you hungry?” you asked, smiling at the awkwardly funny face he was making.
“Can we order pizza?” he asked back, and as you nodded, he stood up from the sofa, typing in a phone number faster than humanly possible and placing his phone on his ear.
“I never asked, but,” you started, following him into your kitchen. “How did you get here so fast?”
Wally’s eyes grew wide as he tried to avoid looking at you, the words missing from his mind as he tried to find an excuse. “I was close by.”
“Oh!” you simply replied.
Fuck it, Wally, he thought. Could’ve been a bit more subtle.
“I was walking by, you know. Just looking for something to do when I saw your message and like, thought it was a great opportunity I couldn’t let pass.”
“An opportunity to cuddle?” you asked shyly.
“To cuddle you, why would I pass on it?” His words made you blush redder than a tomato, looking down at your nails to avoid his eyes. “It was really a great opportunity.”
“Was it worth taking?” you asked again, looking at him innocently.
“Totally.” he stated. “You?”
“Totally.”
You listened as the pizza place finally answered the call and he ordered four (!!!) pizzas for the two of you. Fast metabolism, he mouthed and you laughed. “C’mon, let’s go back to cuddling”
Pulling you by the hand, he jumped on the sofa again, this time laying on it and leaving enough space to have you by his side.
“Don’t you think you’re getting too comfortable?” you joked.
“You make me comfortable, Yn. You should get used to it.”
“Used to it?” you questioned, pulling you to lay down on the sofa with him.
“Yeah, used to it.” he repeated.
Lying down now, you fixed your head placement on his shoulder, a perfect fit once more. A hand placed on his chest, feeling his heartbeat through your palm, you felt his arm pushing you closer till your forehead met his lips.
“If you’re interested, we could do this more often.” he suggested.
“Yeah, I’d be interested.” you said, not hiding the smile spreading on your lips.
“And we could, you know, go out on a date somewhere.”
“Yeah, I’d be interested in that too.”

take my hands (we can fall together) | lee chan | master list
Tumblr media
summary: chan's known you for years and he knows you're friends, but you've always felt just a little bit out of reach. like you see him as someone your brother brought into the friend group when you were kids. he's fine with that. still, it's hard to watch you settle for relationships where you're never the priority. when the weather starts cooling off, chan figures your favorite season is the time to show you that you deserve better. even if it's not him. pairing: brother's best friend!chan x f.reader genre: friends to ??, pining, slow burn | fluff, some angst, smut rating: explicit (not til part 3) warnings: explicit smut, unhealthy relationships (background character), mentions of food, mentions of drinking, see parts for more detailed warnings word count: ~23.5k
note: this kinda got away from me, but this is a 3 part fic of @svthub's fall collab (read the rest of the amazing fics here). so i'm putting together a masterlist. thanks as always to my bby indi @classicscreations for an amazing banner! see below the cut for a teaser 💕 part one 6.6k part two 7.7k part three 9.2k status: complete
let me know if you want to be added to the taglist! (comment, send an ask, send a DM)
Tumblr media
Fall has never been Chan’s favorite season. The weather cools down, but it’s in this weird in-between. One day, it’s cold enough for heavy jackets, and the next it’s almost warm enough to wear shorts. It starts to get dark too early as the days get shorter, which makes it feel like there’s just less time in the day. Or, even worse, there are days when Chan leaves the apartment in the dark and returns in the dark. Everything feels like it’s dying with the leaves falling. It seems like it should be a season of thankfulness and friends and holidays, but it just ends up feeling like an ending in a bad way. He’s not cynical, he’s just not really sure he likes this time of year.
“I wish I had someone to do fall things with me,” you announce to nobody in particular.
Okay, well maybe Chan needs to rethink this whole opinion on the season. Because here’s the other thing, he’s always been drawn to you. Sure, you’re his friend. It’s just, he’s always been closer to your brother, Jay. Always a little envious, too. You and Jay are friends as much as siblings, despite you being two years older. So much so that your friend group is somewhat merged. Chan knows that Jay has friends you don’t hang around and that the same goes for you. It’s still nice, though. Seeing the two you, he understands what it means to love family and also like them.
Yet in all those years of friendship, Chan can still remember the moment when he started seeing you differently. You’d called Jay late one night, no text or anything, and Jay picked up right away because it was so unlike you. It was your first real breakup, a guy you met and started dating in college, the only time you and Jay had been really separated. Even if the separation was only a two hour drive. You were so devastated that Jay switched to a video call and convinced you to come home for the weekend. All Chan can remember is how much he wanted to protect you from ever feeling that way again. He knew you didn’t deserve the way that guy made you feel. Then, the new school year came around, and he and Jay were on campus with you. The draw has only gotten stronger since then.

“Are you sure you don’t want to go home? We could just sneak out.” You let out a deep sigh and readjusted your outfit.
“I’m sure. Plus, my cousin already saw us so if we bailed then I would never hear the end of it,” You looked at him with a smile and reached for his hand.
“Thank you for coming with me though. I know parties aren’t your thing, so I really appreciate it”.
You don’t miss the way Katsuki’s cheeks dust the lightest shade of pink as he scoffs.
“Yeah, well, you were being jittery and weird, so it kept interrupting our training time together.” You smiled wider and kissed his cheek, causing him to swat you playfully.
“Ah, now who do we have here? My dearest cousin and... Who are you?”
Katsuki could pinpoint the exact moment all colour drained from your face at the sound of your cousin’s voice. You turned to face them and composed yourself.
“(C/N), how nice to see you! This is my boyfriend, Katsuki. Aunty gave us permission to both come,” Katsuki wrapped his arm around you protectively and gave you a soft squeeze.
“Ah yes, I remember you! You’re that thug who won the sports festival aren’t you? Well, I wouldn’t exactly call it a win since Todoroki didn’t use his full power,” your cousin smirked gleefully. It was evident he was trying to get a rise out of the infamous young hero.
Katsuki’s grip tightened a bit at the mention of the festival. As much as he was changing and growing as a person, the metaphorical loss was too painful at the moment. He and Todoroki were far better friends, but the thought of their earlier interactions left a sour taste on his tongue.
Displeased with the lack of response, (C/N) turned his attention back to you with a snooty grimace.
“Anyway, Aunty (A/N) told me to tell you tha𝚝 she’s serving food soon. Hopefully, you and your boyfriend have a wonderful time,“ he spat. You could feel your cheeks heat up as Katsuki weaved his fingers between yours.
“Still ain’t too late to bail y’know,“ he murmured into your ear. You shook your head and gave him a small smile.
“There’s no way I’d miss my aunt’s (F/F)!“ Katsuki let out his own small smile.
“If you’re sure.“
==================================
As much as you weren’t exactly keen on your aunt’s offspring, the festive decor and effort she put into the food almost made it bearable to sit and enjoy.
Key word: almost.
You and Katsuki sat as closely together as you could, his plate loaded with foods that you were desperate for him to try. As such, you also loaded your own plate with your favorite foods and sat back down. It was all going so, so well, until you went to refill your plate.
“I’m going to get some more sandwiches, do yo𝚞 want me to bring anything Suki?“ you asked your boyfriend who had his mouth stuffed with a pork pie. He quickly swallowed.
“Sure, bring me back another one of those pies please,“ he asked before diving in to a sausage roll. You smiled at him and allowed your family members to converse with him.
After picking up your seconds and Katsuki’s thirds, you sat back down and eased yourself into the conversation, all before a grating voice broke out.
“Jeez, you really are two for two, aren’t you? I suppose beating up lowly civilians does make you build up an appetite. I mean, look at those plates! Stocked to the roof. No wonder your hero suit looks tighter,” You could feel your appetite slip with each word and placed the half eaten breadstick on your plate.
Katsuki watched you the entire time, sending rueful glances at the cousin. He didn,t want to embarrass you, so he held his tongue (as difficult as it was).
“Oh no, don’t stop at my saying so. Please, continue to endorse yourself, and please allow your boyfriend to continue stuffing his face too. After all, act like a brute, eat like a brute,“ he cackled. Many other family members let out their own nervous giggles and looked at Katsuki anxiously, expecting a major blow up.
Instead, he kept his breath calm and slow and reached for your hand. But all breathing techniques flew out the window when he saw your teary eyes. Katsuki took a breath before standing up. He got your attention by gently tapping your shoulder and letting out a grin through gritted teeth.
“I think I left my jacket on the couch in the next room, why don’t you go get it for me,” he asked as politely as he humanly could. You let out a tearful nod as you stumbled out of your seat.
Katsuki waited until you were out of the room before slamming his hands on the table.
“You’re a sick fuck. I know that you’re aware of that fact. But your days of terrorising my partner are fucking over, do you understand? Come near them, talk to them or even look at them funny, and I’ll fucking kill you, do you understand,” he growled lowly.
Your cousin was physically trembling, although seeming pleased with the result.
“Oh please, they’re being over dramatic. It’s just a bunch of harmless teasing-” he let out a yell as Katsuki gripped his collar over the table.
“Well, if we’re gonna fucking tease, let me begin. Your hair is greasier than a discord mod’s, and the stench of your cheap ass cologne doesn’t hide the stench of jealousy. You may have a rich mother who allows you to be an entitled little bastard, but my partner has helped so many people, including me. I’ll be fucking damned if I let you stand there and make one of the best people in this world be made to feel like shit because you can’t get any bitches.” Katsuki was panting at the end of his rant, before turning to your family members.
Many of them had agape mouths, and yet some of them looked… grateful?
You let out a small gasp at the sight of the scenario before pulling your fiery boyfriend off your cousin.
“I’m so sorry, Katsuki what the fuck?!” You could feel yourself growing anxious and horrified; your family are never going to talk to you again. You dragged Katsuki out of the room in tears, before your aunt stopped you by the time you got to the front door.
“Wait, please!” Your aunt begged. She met up with the two of you. You were ready to be disowned as you bent your head. Katsuki leaned himself into an apologetic bow, surprising your aunt.
“Please, get up! I wanted to say thank you!” Your aunty pulled Katsuki up. You both widened your eyes and looked at each other incredulously.
“I know I spoiled the boy growing up, and I regret doing so. I have tried so many times to get him to behave, and yet he never listens. Everyone else is too cowardly to stand up to him because he is a brat and throws tantrums, but after that… demonstration… he seems to have learned his lesson. I’ve never seen him so embarrassed!” She laughed. You looked at Katsuki, who was sporting a small triumphant “I told you so” look.
“I think after today, he’s going to be way more manageable. So, thank you, young Bakugou. And to prove my thanks, here’s the recipe for the pork pies I made today. I could see that you like them,” she passed him the recipe and Katsuki thanked her solemnly. She nodded her head at you both before smiling fondly.
“I’m so glad you found someone so willing to stand up for you, my little (Y/N). He clearly loves you, not everyone is willing to do that for their partner. Cherish this relationship, as love this pure is rare,” your cheeks heat increased tenfold as Katsuki linked your fingers.
“I’ll do my best, ma’am,” he promised.
“Good boy. We can’t wait to see you at the next family get together! Maybe you could straighten out my husband; he has a nasty habit of leaving his shoes near the front door!” She giggled as she walked away.
The door closed and you both simultaneously let out a sigh of relief.
“I’m sorry, I totally lost control back there. The man was being a total bastard, and I couldn’t-” Katsuki was cut off by a searing kiss. His eyes widened before kissing you back.
“Thank you. So fucking much,” you hugged him closely as tears threatened to prick your eyes.
“You’re welcome. He was being an ass to you, and I couldn’t watch it any more,” he explained.
“Now let’s go back to my place. We’ve got pies to make!” He grinned as you shook your head and smacked his shoulder.
Thank god for his inability to hold his tongue.
