Hi! 😊
Leaving aside evil me, whenever you can, can you write about Loki fallen in love with reader, but he isn't his usual self, he seems lost in his thoughts and reader is all happy, all the time she is sighing, hearing and singing love songs. One day Loki hears a conversation between reader and Wanda where Wanda is asking reader if the way she is acting is because she is in love and reader confirms it, and explain how she can't erase the smile off her face, have butterflies in her stomach when she thinks of him, but she didn't say a name but when she describes how is the person she is in love, Loki misunderstood and now thinks the person in question is the Cap and gets angry but mostly sad. At the end is revealed that readers is actually in love with him.

You quickly grabbed your bag and Wanda's coffee heading to the elevators. Pushing the button you sighed "come on." You said shifting feet, you were already late having slept past your alarm, not wanting to come back to reality from your dreams....the ones of a tall dark asgardian. Your head snapped up as the elevator dinged its arrival "finally." You huffed as the doors slid open making you freeze "ah lady y/n...how are you today?" Loki asked smiling that smile, the one that makes your insides melt "your good...I mean I'm hot....eerr good! I'm good!" You stuttered hearing him laugh. "Well, are you coming?" He asked when you realized you hadn't moved "yes!...yes sorry." You said slowly stepping in as the doors closed.
You slid over to the panel, the scent of mint and snow wafted through the air making you sigh as you pushed the button to your floor before sliding away. "Full day planned?" He asked smiling again...damn his beautiful face..."y..yes, wanda has a few interviews to do and some meet and greets." You said looking at the doors, trying to keep your brain from short circuiting at your proximity "ah I see, I have some of those as well, maybe I will see you there?" He asked fully turning towards you "i...I'd like that." You giggled seeing his smile widen when the elevator sounded again "after you my lady." He said waving you before him. "T..thanks." You said smiling back as him as you walked out. "See you later y/n." He called from behind you "bye Loki." You turned seeing him put his hands in his pockets, his cheeks a slight pink as you turned back making your way to the common room.
"Aahh your here!" Wanda yelled as you walked in "yeah sorry! I overslept." You said handing her her coffee, you had been her assistant for almost a year and you loved it. She was kind, compassionate...you couldn't have asked for a better boss. "Oh no, do you need to take the day off? I can manage." Wanda said sitting on the couch "oh no, I'm fine. It's just..." you trailed off setting your bag down "nothing, it's nothing." You smiled pulling your planner out. "Ok so, today..." you trailed off hearing music coming from down the hall, furrowing your eyebrows you look up seeing Bucky walk in with his phone..
"And just like me, they long to be, close to you...." the song played making you smile "Bucky Barnes, I didn't known you listened to the carptenters." You smiled as he sat down "honestly it's a good song, I wish I had been around for that time period." He said as the song continued. You hummed along, making notes as your thoughts wandered. Would Loki like that song...would he dance with you on the balcony under the stars..."earth to y/n." You heard pulling you back "oh...sorry lost in thought." You said clearing your throat "are you sure your ok?" Wanda asked "yeah! I'm fine." You smiled sliding your planner back in your bag "we should probably go though, lots to do." You said grabbing your keys "ok, but let me know if you want to go." She said standing up "Wanda I'm fine I promise." You said laughing as you headed back towards the elevators.

The entire day had been a mess of interviews, and fans, and autographs and to say you were done was an understatement. You could handle people fine, but the large crowds, the screaming and chanting was starting to grate your nerves. "Ok, you've got one more meet and greet and then we're done for the day." You said flopping into your car, Wanda slumping down in the seat next to you "do we have to?" She asked making you laugh "Tony's orders, besides they love you." You said slapping her knee. "Well atleast I won't be on my own for this one." She said sitting up "what do you mean?" You asked turning down a side street "oh, Loki's with me at this one...didn't I tell you?" She asked as you cleared your throat "n..no, i...you must have spaced it." You stuttered peeking over seeing her staring
"what?" You asked pulling into the garage "your ok with Loki yes? I don't want you to be uncomfortable." She said still staring "what! Yes! I just...I didn't know he was going to be there." You rushed out parking the car "ok, you guys seem to get along so.." She shrugged as you giggled "yeah no he's good...we're good...I mean...yeah." you mumbled hearing her laugh. "He's a little intimidating but he's a big softie." She said opening the door. "I'd like to find out how soft.." you said under your breath "what?" Wanda asked leaning down. "Nothing! Let's get in there." You said quickly grabbing your things you led the way inside wanda following quickly behind you.
You both made your way to the small stage where your table was set up, pulling her set of different colored markers out you nodded as she smiled "ok, I'll be over there if you need me." You said when wanda grabbed your hand "Hey, thank you...I don't think I'd make it through this without you." She said making you smile "you got this." You winked squeezing her hand as you walked towards the backstage area. You leaned against the wall with a sigh hearing they had opened the doors, hundreds of people yelling and hollering resonating through your head "almost over." You said looking out seeing Loki's table watching him sitting stock still, staring down at the table. "What the..." you started when every woman in the city rushed his table, cutting off your view of him.
You pushed off the wall walking back to wanda seeing her smiling at a group of kids dressed as her "Hey, what's up with dark and broody?" You asked as wanda looked over seeing Loki leaned over the table mindlessly signing what was put in front of him "hmm, I don't know. He's been like that for weeks now." She said looking back at the kids. "Really? I hadn't noticed." You said standing up straight "he's pretty tight lipped, maybe ask Thor?" She shrugged continuing with her fans. "I'm gonna head back over there." You said walking back towards the wall. You stood back watching as the crowd began to thin, thanking all the gods it was almost over.
Exhaustion ran through you as you made your way back to the tower, the song bucky was playing earlier wandering back into your mind. "Y/n?" Wanda asked making you look over "hmm?" You hummed looking back to the road "you were humming that song again." She said laughing when your felt your cheeks burn "oh...sorry" you said clearing your throat "no, it's ok...it's just." She started turning herself towards you "do you like someone?" She asked as your eyes shot to hers. "I have no idea what your talking about." You said turning into the garage getting out. "Oh come on y/n, you've been all doe eyes and hearts the last month." She said quicky catching up to you. "Can't I just be happy?" You laughed nervously pushing the button to the elevator "well yes, but I've known you for awhile now....you don't hum." She laughed as you both stepped into the elevator "I think your reading too much into it." You said as the doors opened you quickly walked towards the common room.
"Y/n, aren't we friends?" Wanda asked plopping down on the couch "yes...But..." you were cut off by her raising her hand "well, then you should know you can tell me anything." She said smiling. "You aren't letting this go are you?" You sighed as she shook her head "nnnnope....spill it." She said as you walked around sitting next to her. "Fine...yes i...I like someone." You said sitting back "more then like really." You said as she shifted facing you "tell me tell me tell me." She said hopping up and down. "You can't tell anyone." You said watching her cross her heart. "Ok...he lives here...in the tower." You said as she leaned in "He's tall...handsome...and those muscles..." you trailed off looking at the ceiling. "And his suit...its so...tight." you sighed thinking about all that leather tightly wrapped around his large frame "god what I wouldn't give to get that suit off of him." You sighed hearing her laugh "someone I know i assume?" She asked as you looked over at her when Loki walked out from the hallway
"oh, h..hey Loki." You said quicky sitting up "Ms. Y/l/n." He said not looking at you as he walked across the room, his cold demeanor making your anxiety rise "h..how was your meet and greet?" You asked trying to act casual "fine." He huffed disappearing into the kitchen. "What was that about?" You asked Wanda seeing her shrug "he can be a bit moody sometimes." She said turning back to you "now, you were saying..." She said waving her hand "actually I should go, it's getting pretty late." You said standing up. "Well you'll have to tell me more about this tall mystery man tomorrow." She said standing up with you "fiiine." You laughed as Wanda hugged you "be careful getting home." She said turning to head down the hall "I will." You called after her. You threw your bag over your shoulder looking at the kitchen door, your interaction with Loki eating at you. "I'll just tell him goodnight." You said to yourself taking a deep breath you walked over pushing the door open seeing Loki sitting at the island in the dark, his hands over his face.
"Loki.." you trailed off watching him quicky stand up wiping his face "miss y/l/n." He said not looking at you. You stood in the doorway as he set the kettle on the stove, Silence blanketing the room causing your anxiety to reach a new high at the tension between you "s..so um, I just wanted to say goodnight." You said as Loki went about preparing his cup "is that all?" He snarked still avoiding looking at you "is...are you...is everything ok?" You stuttered taking a step towards him "Why wouldn't it be?" He asked, his voice void of all emotion as he kept his eyes down "you...well you seem upset." You said when his eyes finally met yours, seeing a sadness in them that stabbed your heart
"never better...in fact Thor and I are going to that new bar downtown." He said as the kettle screamed "oh?" You asked taking another step closer "yes, I hear there will be a fair amount of lovely women there as well." He said pulling the kettle from the stove, a pang of jealousy running through at his words "oh...I see." You said taking a step back "maybe I'll finally find someone worthy of my attentions." He said as he looked up at you, his eyes stern causing a chill to run up your spine. "Well um...have fun." You said turning back towards the door "oh I intend to." He said behind you, you closed your eyes taking a deep breath "goodnight Loki." You said, after a few minutes he hadn't answered so you took that as your queue to leave. You made it back to your apartment, your interaction with Loki still running through your mind had you offended him...said something to upset him..."maybe he just had a long day, I'll talk to him tomorrow." You said as you climbed in bed trying to get some rest as the exhaustion of the day finally set in.
Tumblr media
You had tried to catch loki the next day, and the day after but everytime you arrived at the tower he was nowhere to be found. As the days went on you began to miss your morning run ins with the god, his smile that made your heart skip, those deep green eyes that seemed to see into your soul. After two weeks you were beginning to get nervous, the last interaction with him boring a hole into your brain deeper and deeper the longer you didn't see him, so you decided to ask wanda one morning as you arrived for work seeing her reading on the couch "Hey, has Loki been around? It feels like forever since I've seen him." You asked setting your bag on the couch "yeah he's been spending alot of time with his assistant." She said not looking up from her book "I thought he didn't have an assistant...said he didn't need one." You said taking a seat across from her "hmm? Oh, a couple of weeks ago he told Tony he wanted one, some lady named jill I think." Wanda said setting her book down
"so, what's the plan today?" She smiled leaning forward "oh, um you have a couple of interviews and..." you trailed off pulling your planner out of your bag and began to flip through it trying to ignore the sting in your eyes he just doesnt want to see you. "Y/n, are you ok?" You heard her ask as you looked up meeting her eyes when you heard a woman laughing down the hall "and then I turned him into a frog." Loki's voice carried through into the room as he walked in looking as perfect as ever in his blue button up and black slacks, his sleeves rolled up, his forearms flexing as he talked to the short brunette next to him "oh my God your so funny." She said grabbing his arm as she cackled making you wince when you looked back at Loki seeing he was looking at you "hi Loki." You said trying to offer a small smile "love, this is Wanda's assistant, miss y/l/n." He said placing his hand on her back "hi, I'm jill." She said smiling at you "Hey." You said waving at her as Loki turned to her again and continued talking.
You took a deep breath, it was now or never "L...loki. I was wondering.." you started when he crossed his arms turning back to you "yes..." he said expectantly "um..could we...i mean could i..." you started looking between him and Jill "could i talk to you for a moment?" You asked hoping he would agree so you could figure out what you had done to upset him "Jill love, what does my schedule look like today?" He asked her not breaking eye contact with you "oh, you have a full day I'm afraid, interviews....a photoshoot...there are a couple of pr meetings, and then.." She trailed off closing her planner "yes, what else darling?" Loki said finally looking at her, the pet name he had given her stinging your chest "our dinner plans...sir." she said smiling.
Loki looked back at you. "You heard the lovely lady, I'm afraid I don't have time today." He said, his tone emotionless as you nodded "right, sorry. Maybe another time." You said looking down to your lap "maybe." He said turning back to her "shall we love?" He asked holding his arm out as she looped hers around his elbow "your so fancy." She giggled as they walked back down the hall. You grabbed your bag stuffing your planner back inside when your eyes met Wanda's "what?" You asked seeing her staring at you. "It's him." She said making you sigh "I don't know what you mean." You said standing up "oh don't give me that! It's him....the one you like." She said standing up with you. "Shh! Someone's going to hear you." You whisper yelled making her laugh "have you told him? You need to tell him" She said walking over to you "you were just in the same room right? You did see those two?" You asked throwing your bag over your shoulder "well yes, but..." you cut her off raising your hand "no buts, if he's happy, then I'm happy for him." You said sternly walking towards the hall "but what about your happiness?" She asked following behind you "I'll be fine." You said pulling your keys out "let's get today over with yeah?" You asked heading to the elevator "ok, whatever you say." She said as you buried your feelings, slapping a smile on your face wishing today was already over.
Tumblr media
Another few weeks had gone by and several attempts to catch Loki alone to talk to him but he always eluded you, the times you had caught him he was with Jill and refused to acknowledge you. The weight in your heart becoming unbearable, your mind running into overdrive as you analyzed every interaction you had before he stopped speaking to you. "Hey y/n." You lifted your head seeing Wanda's smile drop "are you ok?" She asked looking you up and down, granted you hadn't put much thought into your appearance...your hair thrown up in a messy bun and grabbing the first outfit you found in your dresser "yeah...fine why?" You snapped as she crossed her arms "Well I was going to ask if you wanted to come to Tony's party tonight but you don't really seem up to it." She said leaning on the counter in the kitchen "why wouldn't I? Sounds like a great time." You snarked closing your planner shoving it in your bag. "Y/n..." Wanda trailed off making you sigh.
"I'm sorry, I just..." you sighed closing your eyes "He...he still won't talk to me and I don't know what I did to upset him and...jill." you said feeling a tear slide down your cheek "do you want me to talk to him?" She asked taking a step towards you "no! No that would just make things worse." You said quickly wiping your face "I think, wanda I think im going to..." you were cut off by the kitchen door opening, Jill walking in in one of Loki's t-shirts and a pair of shorts "Hey ladies. How are you?" She smiled walking towards the fridge. You heart sinking seeing her
"I have to go." You quicky said grabbing your bag "but y/n." Your heard wanda call after you as you pushed through the kitchen door running into something solid, a pair of hands grabbing your arms as you were forced backwards looking up seeing those green eyes staring down at you. "Miss y/l/n." He said, his tone flat as he quickly removed his hands. You felt the burn in your eyes return as you shouldered past him trying to get to the elevator "no need to be rude." You heard Loki call out from behind you as you pushed the button hoping the elevator would get there faster. "Y/n, wait." Wanda yelled as the doors slid open "I'll see you tonight." You said pushing the button, the doors closing right before she made it. You took a deep breath closing your eyes, you knew what you needed to do, as hard as it would be it needed to be done.
You touched up your makeup in the rear view mirror, adding another layer of concealer over the dark rings under your eyes as you got out of your car smoothing your dress. "Alright, I can do this." You said walking towards the elevator. You picked at your nails as you rode up, you were going to miss this, miss wanda...but you knew it's what you needed to do. You heard the bass thumping from the ballroom as the doors opened, walking down the long hallway you walked in seeing the room filled with people you didn't know as you made your way to the bar. You waved the bartender over ordering a drink as nat walked over "Hey how are you?" She asked sitting on a stool next to you "fine...where's Tony?" You asked looking out into the room "over by the stage last time I saw him." She said sipping her drink "ok thanks." You said grabbing your drink as you headed towards the stage. "There you are." You said as you spotted him standing in the corner talking with Steve when someone's elbow came up knocking your drunk out of your hand gasping as the cold liquid splashed down the front of your dress.
"I'm so sorry!" You heard, looking up seeing Jill staring at you "let me grab some napkins." She said quickly rushing off as you pulled the material away from your skin. "What a shame." You heard Loki's deep timber next to you, looking up seeing his arms crossed as he looked down at you "loki." You said gritting you teeth as you glanced over seeing Tony still with Steve. "Ah, making sure the captain is here." Loki said making you look back at him "too bad he isn't wearing your favorite suit." He sneered making your eyebrows furrow "what are you talking about?" You snapped, tired of whatever this was "oh you know very well what I'm talking about, don't deny it." He said taking a step closer "loki, I really don't..." you were cut off by his hand rising "it matters not, he is welcome to you." He said looking you up and down "I wouldn't waste my time on a pathetic mortal anyway." He said looking back towards the bar.
You felt your heart sink into your stomach at his words "a pathetic mortal." You whispered feeling the sting in your eyes return "here, I got these." Jill said as she came back with a handful of napkins "thank you love, but I'm sure she is fine." Loki said grabbing her arm "ah reindeer games...y/n what happened?" Tony asked as he joined the commotion. You looked up at Loki his eyes cold "Tony, I quit." You said grabbing the napkins from Jill "thank you." You said quickly turning back towards the entrance "y/n wait." Tony said as he followed you "why are you quitting?" He asked as you made it to the elevator "I can't do this anymore, I can't be around..." you trailed off looking down the hall seeing Loki walk around the corner watching you "I just can't do this job anymore, I'm sorry Tony." You said as the doors slid open "what am I going to tell wanda?" He asked as you pushed the button "tell her I'm sorry." You said, your eyes meeting Loki's one last time as the doors slid shut.
You made it home, pulling your soiled dress off you jumped in the shower hearing your phone going off making you sigh. You finished cleaning your spilled drink off wrapping a towel around you as you walked out grabbing your phone from the nightstand seeing multiple missed calls and texts from wanda "Hey what happened?" "Was it Loki? I can stab him." You almost laughed at the last one as you typed your response "don't worry about it, I'm sorry wanda but I can't be there anymore, I hope your next assistant is better." You typed as you hit send before quickly turning your phone off unable to deal with her as you grabbed your pajamas, changing before you slipped into bed wishing the whole day was a nightmare.
Tumblr media
It had been a week and you had spent the entire time in your pajamas, unable to bring yourself to put actual clothes on. You walked to the kitchen deciding to make some coffee before jumping onto your computer turning in more resumes when there was a knock at your door. Shaking your head you continued your task thinking it was wanda again trying to convince you to come back "I said no wanda." You whispered when another knock came, louder this time "y/n, may I please have a word?" Loki's voice made you freeze as he called out from the other side of the door. "What is he doing here?" You asked yourself peeking out of the kitchen to the front door "I will not go away until you speak to me." He said making you sigh "one second." You called out straightening out your sweatshirt and trying to pull your hair up as you walked to the door, grabbing the handle you took a deep breath as you opened it, seeing Loki in all his glory standing with his hands in his pockets "what do you want?" You asked crossing your arms.
"May I come in?" He asked as you didn't move "it will only take a moment...please." He said shifting back and forth "you have one minute." You said as you stepped aside letting him in before closing the door behing him "time starts now." You said crossing your arms "y/n, I'm an idiot." He said turning to face you "I...wanda had a word with me, well...several if im honest." He said rubbing his palms together "and she informed me a may have been sorely mistaken." He said looking down "about what exactly...thirty seconds." You said looking at the clock
"I heard your conversation that night...with wanda after the interviews." He said as he looked up "I was under the assumption the tall muscular mystery man was....rogers." He said as his eyes met yours "so, I did what I thought was best...since you clearly didn't feel the same way for me, I pushed you away." He said clearing his throat "wait...say that again." You said dropping your hands "that I pushed you away?" He asked taking a step back from you as you walked closer "no, before that." You said still advancing on him "t...that you didn't feel the same." He said running into the back of the couch "you...do you mean to tell me you..." you trailed off looking down "yes y/n, I like you...alot, I have for quite some time." He said making your eyes shoot back to his "your kind, funny, intelligent...how could I not?" He asked smiling "and when I thought your attentions were for rogers i...I felt as though my heart would break in two." He said fidgeting with his fingers
"I can never apologize enough for the things I said to you, how i spoke to you" he continued as you took another step closer, your hands reaching out to grab his when your eyes met, seeing his puffy and red "please believe from the bottom of my heart I am so sorry." He said lacing his fingers with yours "what about jill?" You asked loosening your grip when he squeezed your hands "I have told her that I have met someone, that i...." he trailed off clearing his throat "t..that I love." He said, his eyes searching yours "I understand if I have ruined what may have been, but I was hoping you may find it in your heart to allow me to court you?" He asked squeezing your hands tighter.
"On one condition Loki." You said looking up at him "anything, name it." He said pulling you towards him "loosen your grip." You whispered as he quickly looked down releasing your hands, your fingers a light blue making you laugh "norns I'm so sorry, I sometimes forget myself and..." you cut him off pressing a finger to his lips "it's ok Loki." You said seeing him smile "there is one other thing I must ask." He said rubbing your fingers "what's that?" You asked smiling "I have been told that if I do not bring you back to the tower with me I shall be disemboweled." He said making you laugh "so would you be willing to take up your old post and become Wanda's assistant again?" He asked as you looked up at him, his eyes hopeful "well, you need to be in one piece to go on a date." You laughed "yes that would be preferable." He laughed with you
"ok fine, but no more assuming ok?" You asked as he took a step closer, cupping your cheek in his large hand "no more assuming, I swear it." He said, his eyes darting to your lips and back "may we seal it with a kiss?" He asked licking his lips. "Weeellll, I suppose...." you were cut off by his lips capturing yours, your brain short circuiting as his arm wrapping around your back pulling you closer pressing your chest against his as your hands gripped his large shoulders. He pulled back slightly, your lips chasing his hearing him laugh "there will be plenty of time for that darling." He said pressing his forehead to yours "now, how about you go get ready and I'll take you to dinner." He said smiling at you as you stepped back walking towards your bedroom "and do hurry, If you take too long I may have to come in there." He said making you laugh
"well, I may need help finding my shampoo." You said turning around in your doorway winking. "Well what kind of gentleman would I be if I did not help a lady in distress?" He asked striding towards you "well I was hoping you might be...less then gentle." You purred trailing your fingers up the buttons of his shirt "whatever you...desire." He growled as you grabbed his hand pulling him into the room shutting the door behind him hoping your shower was big enough for two....

what if kaveh adopted a child? (pt. ii)
summary. kaveh isn't exactly the best single dad out there, but he's doing his best.
trigger & content warnings. no applicable warnings.
tropes, pairings, fic length, & other notes. fluff, slight angst. adoptive dad!kaveh & reader. alhaitham & reader. tighnari & reader. collei & reader. 1.7k words. they/them pronouns for reader. this post is an expansion of what if kaveh adopted a child?
author's thoughts. do you guys remember when i said i wouldnt expand upon this brainrot? i lied. it was pretty well recieved and got some nice interaction so i hope to replicate that effect with this one!! heres some more adoptive dad!kaveh 💖 this will not make sense if you havent read the aforementioned brainrot, so please do that before reading this one! also do be aware that this has hints of kaveh's backstory in it, so if you don't want to see implied spoilers, don't read this!!
Tumblr media
kaveh is a disaster single dad, but he's doing his best.
kaveh did inevitably take alhaitham's unsolicited advice and took them to gandharva ville. as much as he may hate to outwardly admit it... he knows he's not in a place to take care of a child alone, and he can't force alhaitham to help. that is simply not his roommate's responsibility. kaveh respects that; taking care of a child is a serious committment. it is not something that can be treated lightly, and it is certainly not something to force upon an unwilling caretaker. thankfully, the people at gandharva ville have no issue taking them in until kaveh is able to care for them properly.
tighnari and collei take really good care of them—especially collei. she adores them.
collei was very awkward with them at first, but she warmed up to them pretty quickly. something about having the opportunity to help a young child recover from trauma and learn to be stronger and smarter, having the opportunity to be like a big sister... it's very healing for her. she is being the person she herself would have needed all those years ago.
tighnari was also somewhat hesitant at first. children have a tendency to be bratty and loud, and he... does not have that kind of patience, but he was quick to get over any prior doubts after meeting them for the first time. they were very quiet. it was kind of worrying at first, but tighnari quickly realized that they just prefer communicating nonverbally.
the way they write is beautifully advanced and elegant, but it seems that their mouth finds it hard to keep up with their brain. that's all.
tighnari tutors them alongside collei. they're very advanced in language for their young age, and collei is a bit behind, so the two are roughly at the same level. he's also teaching both of them some of sumeru's many languages.
unlike collei, however, they are not from sumeru. they're from fontaine. as such, they have a lot of trouble producing some sounds that native speakers would have no trouble with.
(it's a source of very much frustration for them. collei is always there to console them when they get especially frustrated with themselves, wiping their tears away with gentle yet calloused hands and reassuring them that absolutely no-one expects them to be able to pronounce every word perfectly. even she messes up sometimes! she was away from sumeru for so long, after all. some sounds are difficult for her too.)
whenever kaveh visits them, they absolutely shine with excitement, as if he hasn't come to see them in ages. however... he's usually there multiple times a week (unless he's away for a project, and if he is, he always tells them before he leaves). they're simply always happy to see him.
it's really very cute, the way they gasp delightedly and run up to hug his legs since they're too short to reach any higher. it's impossibly endearing.
one time in particular stood out.
"Baba!"
Utter shock.
The silence that spread through Gandharva Ville was incredibly overpowering, but that didn't seem to deter them from running up to poor Kaveh—who had yet to completely process what they had said, how they had addressed him—and squeezing their little arms around his leg. The silence was quick to dissipate into fond murmurs and giggles as the Forest Rangers resumed their individual duties.
...
The blonde had no intention of replacing their parents; he'd feel awful if one or both of them turned up at some point, only for their child to have bonded with a different caretaker, but...
He also didn't have the heart to chide them. Who would? The way they gazed up at him with a smile that outshined the blazing sun itself was too sweet, too innocent. Kaveh couldn't possibly imagine why anyone would want to crush their soul like that.
He couldn't deny the warmth spreading in his chest, either.
With a smile, he raised his child into his arms, laying his forehead against their's. His gaze was gentle, affectionate, as he observed their expression. 'Enamored' didn't even begin to describe Kaveh's affection for them.
"Hello, little one. Baba's back."
from then on, kaveh absolutely addresses them as his kid. he just accepts that his role in their life is that of a father. family is not defined by blood, and archons know they need a parental figure that they can trust and rely on after what they went through in fontaine.
he never really saw himself being a father, at least not for a good while, but he adores them sm <3
alhaitham definitely warms up to them (eventually)!
he teaches them a few things here and there. most of the things he teaches them are language-related, but he'll sometimes present them with math problems. he'll even review some of their work for them if they ask, especially if it's something like an essay.
kaveh would absolutely pay special attention to his child's hair. if he doesn't already know how to care for their specific hair type, he would do everything in his power to learn how to.
kaveh spoils them whenever he can afford to. he oftentimes can't afford to do such things, which stings like a fresh wound would, but he knows they're happy even without being spoiled. he tries his best!
the architect wants to preserve their native culture, but they seem averse to the idea of returning to fontaine, and forcing them would do no good.
for now, the best he can do is obtain fontainian literature through foreign sources and ensure that their own language isn't erased by the sumeran languages they're learning.
his mother does live there. he could always ask her for a few favors when needed.
when the political climate cools down a little, he plans on taking them to fontaine, just not the capital city. anywhere outside of the nation's capital would do. ideally, he'd keep them as far away from the hydro archon as possible.
kaveh would never push his child to enroll in the akademiya, no matter how brilliant they are. unless they voluntarily want to go...
he will not do something that cruel to them. he wouldn't dream of it. honestly, even if they wanted to go, he would be a little hesitant.
(this view would change drastically after the sages are removed from office, however; once they're gone and the akademiya becomes less suffocating, he'd totally encourage them to go.)
if they did decide they wanted to go, however, he'd absolutely try to get them to enroll in kshahrewar.
like father like child!! they've been with the forest rangers for a while, so surely they'd be good with their hands by then.
alhaitham would try to get them into haravatat just to spite kaveh (those two are married, trust me!). his reasoning? they're far ahead of their peers in language. they'd thrive in an environment such as the one his darshan creates.
if they decide not to go? that's alright, too.
kaveh wants his child to thrive in an environment where they can safely and happily pursue whatever catches their interest, even if that means they regularly hop between subjects and ideas on a whim. inspiration is a skittish beast that would surely slip through their fingers if they aren't quick enough to pursue it; he understands this idea very well. it really isn't the end of the world if they don't want to go to the akademiya. they have plenty of scholars willing to teach them without all the academic stress attached—kaveh himself, alhaitham, tighnari, cyno...
(they're like a platonic co-parenting friend group LMAO they're raising [name] and collei together! they all help each other out!!)
kaveh is also very intent on teaching them to care for themselves before they try to care for anyone else.
he lives weighed down by guilt for things that weren't even his fault. he knows he's trapped by his own ideals; he'd be damned if he were to teach his child to be same way.
"do as i say, not as i do" kind of vibe. also definitely teaches his kid to "do no harm but take no shit"
(though, let's be honest: children learn through mirroring. if kaveh is not careful, his child will subconsciously adopt his self-destructive behaviors. thankfully, they do have other people to set them straight if they begin exhibiting such behaviors, namely alhaitham and cyno, who also do the majority of teaching them to "take no shit".)
ultimately, kaveh just wants his child to be happy, even if something were to happen to him. he doesn't want them to feel the way he does every moment of his life.
It wasn't often that Kaveh simply got to sit in calm silence with his child.
More often than not, they spent their time in Gandharva Ville with the forest rangers. However, every other weekend, Kaveh would take them back to Sumeru City with him; Alhaitham seemed to have no qualms with keeping them around after realizing the kind of child they turned out to be.
It was during the weekends the architect had them that he sought to spend as much time as possible with them.
Sometimes, that meant sitting peacefully in the silence together.
"...Little one," Kaveh called softly, hand stroking lovingly over their hair. They tilted their head back to meet his gaze, a small, inquisitive sound leaving their lips.
"Hm?"
"If something ever happens to me, I want you to know that you had nothing to do with it in any way, matter the circumstance. If something ever happens to me... it would not be your fault, okay? Do you understand?"
A heavy silence extended for a moment, and Kaveh could only watch as a variety of emotions crossed their face at once.
It unsettled him that they seemed to fight with themselves about how to respond, as if they couldn't agree with that.
Then again...
It wouldn't surprise him if they blamed themselves for the loss of their biological parents. Only time would tell if that pain would manifest into something worse as they got older.
"...Okay, baba. I understand."
He smiled, leaning down to kiss their forehead.
"Good."
please consider reblogging, it helps me out quite a lot!

I am not sorry for tagging you again, my awesome brainrot pal Rin and lovely cuz nire 💚 I'm aware of the recent case with Tighnari's EN VA. I want to say that I play Genshin using the JP dub and thus Tighnari's personality in this fic and in my mind is based on that interpretation (if that helps). I would like to extend my sincere well-wishes to the victims and hope this will get resolved soon. Original post here.
Original note:
Merry Christmas!! This fic was written for the Elemental Supercharge collab hosted by @zhongrin. My entry: dendro + dendro = overgrowth. Thank you so much to @nire-the-mithridatist for the beta! Love you cuz 💚 Enjoy~! :)

To say Tighnari is your good friend is an understatement.
You first met him in the House of Daena when you were still teenagers, his ears twitching behind the thick encyclopedia he was reading up for an upcoming exam. You’d seen him a couple of times at the same spot by then—and you, who’d never seen a fennec fox hybrid before in your life, were intrigued. Extremely intrigued. So you did what every curious teenager would do when they met one of his kind: reach out to touch his ears.
“I can hear you, you know,” he said.
You yelped, startled. “Hear me? But I don’t—how did you hear my hand?”
“Aha, so you were reaching for my ears,” he said, looking up from his encyclopedia. A proud smirk was plastered on his lips. “My hearing is very good, you know. I could hear your clothes rustling over the books.”
“With those ears? Yeah, of course,” you blurted out. Tighnari’s eyes narrowed in a questioning look. You fidgeted nervously. “Oh, uh, sorry. I didn’t mean to offend you.”
After a few moments of silence, Tighnari burst into a giggle.
“You’re very straightforward. I like you,” he said. “Everyone else tiptoes around me when it comes to my ears and tail—but not you.” He stood up and offered his right hand to you. His tail swished from side to side in excitement.
“My name’s Tighnari. What’s your name?”
You accepted his hand and told him your name with a sheepish smile on your lips. “Nice to meet you, Tighnari.”
From then on, the two of you have been almost inseparable. He’s a good listener, and not just because of his fox ears. He listens to you when you need to rant—every time. More importantly, he knows when to give advice and when to just give you a pat on the back. When you had a bad breakup with your ex a few years ago, he dragged you to Gandharva Ville for a week-long getaway. He tended to you like one of his patients, but instead of herbal brews, he brought you light novels, chocolate, and your favorite comfort foods: cheese and his mushroom hodgepodge.
You feel truly blessed for having him as your best friend.
Alhaitham was your classmate in the course on ancient puzzles that you took as a Haravatat student.
He was known as a top student, and he was very popular with the teachers. Even so, nobody wanted to team up with him for group assignments, because one, he preferred to work alone, and two, he never failed to irritate others with his refusal to pretty up his words. But you had always found him intriguing. He didn’t talk or interact much with other people—partly because they tried to avoid being at the receiving end of his sharp tongue—yet he always managed to figure out how they think after spending only a short time with them. You came up with two possibilities: either he had very strong observation skills, or he had a network of spies in the Akademiya.
You decided that the first explanation seemed more plausible.
So when your teacher told the class to pair up for your final project, you naturally went to him. After all, someone with strong observation skills would be invaluable in solving ancient puzzles.
You walked up to his seat at the end of the class. You noticed that he was reading a book—and archons know you hated it when someone interrupted your reading time—but this was important.
“Hi, Alhaitham,” you greeted.
A pair of eyes with colors like red roses floating in water full of fluorescent moss looked up at you in annoyance. “Yes? What do you want?”
You fidgeted visibly in front of him, trying to appeal to his softer side. “I’d like to team up with you for the final project. The class has an even number of students, as you well know. Do you mind?”
After thinking for a second, he answered with a curt “No,” then reverted his gaze to the book he was reading. You smiled and sat beside him.
Thus began your collaboration with Alhaitham. For the months you worked with him on your project, you never found him to be irritating. He was just always honest when asked about his opinion. He was blunt, yes, but he never did it to annoy you on purpose, which was a good thing in your book. You also found him easier to understand than most people, as his thoughts and actions were always governed by logic. His actions might be unacceptable for most people sometimes, but he always appreciated your feedback on what he said or did.
On the last day of the course, the teacher praised the project both of you have worked so hard on. You nearly jumped out of your seat, but Alhaitham—now familiar with your antics when excited—wordlessly put his hand over yours and squeezed your fingers, stopping you from doing that in the middle of the classroom. You blushed. He’d never done that before—he would usually tap on your arm instead. That was the first time you felt his hand directly on your skin—he was warm, his palms rough and calloused due to handling swords, and his grip on your fingers was both gentle and strong at the same time. His touch lingered for a few moments before he pulled away, leaving you staring at his profile, questions about his intentions rushing one after another through your mind. You had to shake your head violently to refocus yourself.
That evening, you celebrated by having dinner at Lambad’s together. After some small talk, you braved yourself to tell him that you’d still like to meet up with him.
“Do you mind if I come to find you in the library sometimes?” you asked.
A tender smile bloomed on his lips. Your heart skipped a beat.
Since when is he so beautiful?
“Sure,” he said. “I would like that very much.”
It was at that moment you realized you had a crush on him. You found yourself trying to spend more time with him—in the library, in the café, wherever you could find him—and you even attended his thesis defense in a show of support.
However, your feelings for him never bore fruit—you lost touch with him after he graduated, two years before you did. He became busier each day and didn't have the time to hang out in the library anymore. You tried to not pay too much attention to it—it was a fleeting feeling anyway, you thought. You eventually got a very sweet boyfriend in your thesis buddy, but he cruelly broke up with you right after your thesis was completed. You were used, then discarded like a broken toy. Your heart was in a million pieces, and you thought you’d never recover if Tighnari had never intervened. With a heart full of scars, you never thought you’d ever fall in love again.
But then you joined a book club—Alhaitham’s book club. Overjoyed at reuniting with your old friend, you told him your latest updates, including your bad breakup with your ex. He listened intently, then said, “I’m sorry,” while squeezing your hands to comfort you. You found his touch to still be the same—gentle, yet strong. After that heart-to-heart, you can’t help but notice that for someone who claimed he didn’t like to be touched, he touches you a lot. A light tap on your shoulder, a pull on your wrist or arm to steady you when you were being clumsy with your steps, and his fingertips lingering on your skin—you’d never seen him be so physical with others, and sometimes you wondered if he did that on purpose.
As someone whose primary love language is physical touch, falling in love with him again because of those little touches was inevitable.
“Nari.”
“Yes?”
“I think I love him.”
Tighnari nearly falls out of his chair.
“You what?”
“Love,” you repeat, “I love Alhaitham.” Tighnari gives you the questioning look. “Well, I do. And I think he likes me, too,” you continue.
He lets out an exasperated sigh.
“Look, my dear friend. I love you and all, but I have to say this. Being in the same book club with him is one thing. Falling in love with him and thinking that he likes you, however…” He shakes his head. “I get that you once had a crush on him, but how did you even arrive at that conclusion?“
You think for a while.
“Well,” you say, “I find myself thinking about him every day—I dare say even every minute. And there are the lingering touches—”
Tighnari’s ears twitch in curiosity. “I thought you said he doesn’t like to be touched?“
“He doesn’t,” you say. “That’s why I think he thinks of me differently.”
Tighnari sighs again.
“It does sound like you’re in love with him, and that he likes you more than he likes other people,” he says. “You’re hopeless. But I’m afraid that you’ll only get hurt.”
“Why?”
Tighnari clicks his tongue. “He’s a purely rational person. And love is irrational.”
“Then why does he always listen to me when I’m whining about—about anything?”
“Maybe he’s just being nice.”
“Maybe, but from what information I’ve gathered, he doesn’t do that with other girls. Hell, even with people. You know how he takes no bullshit from Kaveh.”
Tighnari’s mouth goes agape. “I don’t even want to know how you ‘gathered information’ about him.”
“I have my ways.”
He throws up his hands in the air, a defeated look on his face.
“Fine!” he says, his tone rising, his ears flat against his head. A shaky breath escapes him. “I just don’t want you to get brokenhearted again. It pained me a lot to see you crying silently every day.”
Taken aback at his words, you consider your response carefully—you really want him to see how Alhaitham treats you differently. Almost immediately, an idea appears in your mind.
“How about you join tomorrow’s book club meet-up?” you propose. His ears quickly stand back to attention.
“What? Why?”
“So you can observe him yourself,” you say, a smile growing on your lips. “Then you can judge if he likes me or not.“
“That’s… a good idea,” he ponders. “Okay. What time tomorrow?”
You come to the meet-up with Tighnari in tow. He stands beside you as you knock on Alhaitham’s door. The homeowner himself answers it.
“Oh, hello. You’re early. And… well, well.” The scribe’s eyes turn towards your best friend. “I didn’t expect to see the Forest Watcher here,” he quips.
Tighnari scoffs, his tail swirling protectively around your waist.
“I’m here to accompany my best friend,” he says. You chuckle nervously.
Alhaitham smirks, clearly amused with Tighnari’s protectiveness. “Come in.”
You and Tighnari walk into the house and sit on the living room sofa. Alhaitham fetches coffee for you and water for Tighnari. A few minutes later, the other book club members come, and the discussion starts.
Again, you can’t help but notice that Alhaitham touches you a lot. He sits beside you for the whole two hours of heated discussion, his hand lingering at the bottom of your elbow, sometimes moving away but eventually finding its way back to your skin. You feel his fingertips sink deeper into your flesh every time Tighnari speaks—is he… jealous?
Meanwhile, Tighnari, who sits opposite you, has his eyes peeled between your face and Alhaitham’s hand. He notices how you keep looking at Alhaitham every few seconds, sees every blush you have every time Alhaitham touches you, and hears how your breathing hitches every time he speaks and Alhaitham’s fingers, in turn, sink deeper into your skin.
After two hours of observation, Tighnari has had enough.
He waits until Alhaitham is back from escorting the other club members out, then he stands up to face the taller man.
“Thank you for letting me join today’s meet-up,” Tighnari says, then turns to you. “Now—I think you have something to tell our host, buddy.”
You nearly choke on your coffee in shock. “Nari, this wasn’t—”
Tighnari shoots you a threatening look. “Tell him. Or I will.”
“What’s this about?” Alhaitham asks, confusion visible in his usually-stoic face.
You sigh. “Well,” you start, fidgeting. You try to meet his gaze. “I think I’m in love with you.”
Alhaitham freezes so visibly, you feel obliged to mouth “sorry” for suddenly springing a love confession on him.
Tighnari’s ears are now flat against his head and his tail is bristling. You feel the blood draining from your face. This is not good.
“Tell us. Do you—” he points at Alhaitham’s chest, then to you— “like her, or not?”
The scribe clears his throat and folds his arms in defense. “Of course I do. I wouldn’t have let her into my house otherwise.”
Tighnari hisses. “Don’t play coy. You know what I mean.”
Alhaitham raises his eyebrows. “That’s rather private, don’t you think?”
Tighnari backs off, but his tail is swishing side to side in annoyance. “I would normally agree. But she was badly hurt in the past, and I—” he chokes. “I don’t want that to happen again. Ever.”
Alhaitham steals a glance at you—who is nervously fidgeting, whispering “sorry, I’m sorry, please don’t punch him” rapidly—then focuses back on Tighnari.
“I’d rather her get hurt sooner than later. Before she overthinks about how you behave around her,” Tighnari continues.
On that, you stop whispering and shoot your best friend a protesting look. He turns his gaze to you. “Oh, shut up. You know you’re going to. You do that every time you have a crush.”
You blush. He focuses his gaze back on Alhaitham. “So yes, if that means intruding into your private life, that’s a small sacrifice I’m willing to make.”
Alhaitham stares at you for a few seconds. He lets out a sigh upon seeing you melt under his intense gaze.
“I see,” he muses and turns to Tighnari. “I suppose I should thank you.”
The Forest Watcher tilts his head. “What for?”
Alhaitham chuckles. “For making me realize that I should’ve done this sooner.”
Before you can react, he’s already sitting beside you. His left arm circles around your waist, pulling you towards him, and his right hand is on your left ear, his thumb caressing your skin like it’s the most precious thing in this world. You squeak in surprise when he pecks your nose. When he pulls away, he has a teasing smirk on his lips.
“Hmm. I don’t think that’s the right place. Excuse me.”
He dips in to kiss you in earnest. It’s a gentle act, him pressing his soft, warm lips against yours—a gentleness you wouldn’t normally associate with the highly rational man who is oftentimes described as “cold.”
Then again, you’re not exactly normal in his eyes, are you?
“I love you,” he declares softly, a tender smile on his lips—the smile that made you fall in love with him back then. “I’ve been in love with you since we were classmates.”
You feel tears start welling up in your eyes. “That long? Why didn’t you tell me?” you ask. You feel his arm tighten around your waist.
“You already had a boyfriend when I realized my feelings for you,” he says. “Had I known he was just using you, I would’ve risked getting punched in the gut for telling you about how I feel anyway.” He shakes his head. “I’m sorry. I should’ve investigated more instead of just giving up and staying away.”
You lean forward to place a light kiss on his lips. He pulls back in surprise.
You chuckle at his reaction. “It’s okay. Thank you.”
With a small smile, he gathers you into his arms and turns to Tighnari.
“I believe this satisfies your curiosity, Mr. Forest Watcher?” he asks while playing with your hair.
Tighnari gives a huff of approval. “Yes,” he smiles. He walks to the front door and looks back at the two of you, affection abundant in his eyes.
“Congratulations, you two.”
You wave your best friend goodbye and lay your head back onto your now-boyfriend’s chest. He hums as he rocks you back and forth in his arms, both of you relieved to finally know how you feel toward each other. With the newfound love you have in Alhaitham and the enduring friendship you have in Tighnari, you feel secure—like an overgrowth of sturdy trees is watching over you.

Original end note:
I've always wanted Tighnari as my (fluffy!) best friend. I feel like he'd be very protective (bordering overprotective, even) of the people he truly cares about.
As for Haitham, well, he's a lot of fun to write. I feel like I understand how he thinks and behaves quite easily. And he's my husband, and I'm selfshipping, soooooo there's that.
Hope you enjoyed reading the fic as much as I enjoyed writing it! 💚

Have I sent a request to you already or is this my first? If it is then I want another Tighnari fic. Anything will do. But I prefer reading it with a female reader. I just want to be loved by TIGHNARI. Give me fluff please please please or angst if you feel like it, I equally love both. I want Tighnari to love me please please please.
Also, I had been looking for your Tighnari fic where reader is dead and only left with his daughter. Thank you for making it.
I just divorced Wanderer.

Synopsis: What if Tighnari's spouse didn't succumb to her illness in an alternative universe/timeline.
Pairing: Tighnari x Female! Reader
Genre: Angst & fluff, hurt/comfort
💮 — Author Answered: Nope, I'm pretty sure this is your first one (if I'm not gravely mistaken :v). Lucky for you, I had something chilling in my drafts for quite some time (and I kinda miss writing for Tighnari). Thanks for the request!
Note: The synopsis will probably make more sense if you've read the first part (or you can read it after this, I won't judge you). Also, I know that alternative universe and alternative timeline are two entirely different things, but I don't know what's the difference. So I just put both, you get the point hehe :3

Perched atop of the largest tree in Gandharva Ville, is a little fox-eared girl adorned in flowers complete with floral binoculars as well. Her name is Zahra. She was surveying the grey skies above Pardis Dhyai, which means it was bound to rain there. Knowing that, there's only one thing came to her mind.
'Papa...'
As she continued to look through her binoculars, Zahra's large and pointy ears twitched a few times. Not because they're itchy, but because she was not alone.
"There you are, my little flower. What are you doing up here? Get down."
It was you, her mother. Hearing you call her, Zahra immediately got down to a much safer place. You kneeled down in front of the little girl, holding both of her hands in yours.
"What are you up to now? Hmm?"
Your question earned a silence from Zahra, as she looked back at the direction she surveyed earlier. Zahra may be the type of child who often gets into trouble, but she will never keep secrets. And she felt safe enough to share it with you.
"...I'm worried that Papa hasn't applied his plant-based waterproofing oil to his tail before leaving for Pardis Dhyai. And looking at the color of the sky above it, it looks like it's going to rain heavily," Zahra confessed.
You let out a sigh of contentment as you went to pat your daughter's head.
"That's very considerate of you, Zahra. But your father will be fine. He doesn't want us worrying about him all the time, does he? So I know he can take care of himself."
"...Yeah, you're right. Maybe I was worrying about nothing. Thanks, Mom," Zahra said.
You smiled at her before standing back up. Pulling out your floral pocket watch, it showed a bit past lunch time.
"A little past lunchtime... You haven't had lunch yet, have you, sweetheart? What do you want to eat?"
"Uhh... Ooh! Mushroom Hodgepodge!"
"Even your tastes resemble your father's, huh? Alright, let's get Ashpazi to cook it for you."

(Meanwhile, at Pardis Dhyai)
The Traveler had just finished talking with the manifestation of the Balladeer, indicated by showcasing his newfound power by causing lightning around Pardis Dhyai. Paimon who remembered that Tighnari and Dehya were still outside, immediately asked the Traveler to go check on them.
"That means anyone outside is in danger! Let's go, Tighnari and Dehya still must be fighting!" Paimon urged.
They ran outside and saw that the Fatui soldiers were not there, meaning they must have retreated.
"Oh, have the Fatui retreated?" Paimon wondered.
"Tighnari and Dehya are over there!"
The Traveler and Paimon rushed over to them, and something seemed amiss.
"Hey! What happened to you!?"
"He's hurt," Dehya said.
Tighnari quickly denied Dehya's words, but regretted it soon after. "I'm fine... Ugh!"
"Don't move. I've seen Eremites get struck by lightning before. You need to rest."
"Struck by lightning!?" Paimon exclaimed.
Dehya recall what happened when the both of them were not there. How the weather suddenly became abnormal, how lightning started attacking everyone, almost as if it were alive. Just very bizarre things, to the point of forcing the Fatui soldiers to retreat.
The Traveler apologizes for Tighnari's wound, reasoning that it was probably them who might have triggered the thunder and lightning.
"Huh... It's alright, I'm sure you also never expected this to happen. Don't blame yourself," Tighnari said.
Even though he is wounded, Tighnari still worries about others rather than himself. "My wound aside, you look like... you've seen something unpleasant. Is Haypasia alright?" he asked.
"She's okay for now, but I want to tell you something."
"Ugh...!"
"Hey! Didn't I tell you not to move?"
"Just in case... Ugh! Let's... go to Haypasia's place, and talk about things there."
They headed inside and continued their conversation. The Traveler recounted everything from "meeting" the Doctor at Port Ormos to their encounter with the Balladeer while checking up on Haypasia.
Hearing the explanation from the Traveler, Paimon, Tighnari and Dehya each had their own reaction. Paimon was surprised by what the Balladeer was thinking, Tighnari ridiculed the Akademiya's god creation plan, while Dehya had a more “positive” reaction.
Nonetheless, with the Doctor out of the picture, Dehya took this as their plan being successful.
"Yay, that's a big accomplishment!" Paimon cheered.
"Ugh! I'm... also happy for you," Tighnari said.
Dehya thanked Tighnari and told him to rest, along with the Traveler.
"Yeah, yeah... alright," he responded.
"Okay, that wraps things up for us here at Pardis Dhyai. Traveler, it's about time we rendezvous with the others at the Grand Bazaar. Let's continue to keep a low profile. You can head there once you're ready."
Tumblr media
"Ugh... What... What time is it?"
By the time Tighnari woke up, it was already dark outside. That meant he must have had enough rest, so maybe this was the right time for him to get up.
"Agh! Perhaps... that wasn't such a good idea."
Tighnari sat back down and leaned against the wall behind him. He thought to himself, what should he do now? His body was aching from the long period of inactivity, but at the same time moving wasn't a good idea. So... what now?
Being so deep in thought, Tighnari forgot to pay attention to the "wall" he was leaning on, as it suddenly started to move.
"Hm? What the– Oh, Karkata. Sorry, I didn't realize that I was actually leaning on you."
"Kulilu?"
The mechanical crab Tighnari saved was named Karkata, created by a Sumerian researcher by the name of Abattouy. It seems surprised that Tighnari moved and thought it was the one who woke him up.
"Kuli..."
"Why are you apologizing? I'm the one who leaned on you and made you cautious so you don't wake me up, I should be the one apologizing."
It turned out that after some time spent with the mechanical crab, Tighnari began to understand what Karkata wanted to say. Certainly a lot easier to communicate with each other.
"Look, I'll just move over he—"
Tighnari quickly regrets his decision to move. Instantly, his entire body ached as he clutched on to his side. Karkata was confused about what to do seeing him in pain. It moved around, thinking of ways to help Tighnari but it hesitated.
Karkata suddenly remembered the cherry blossom bracelet you gave, which was laced at one of its joints.
(Flashback)
Tighnari took you to Pardis Dhyai to meet Karkata, and it was the first time you meet the mechanical crab. When you first approached Karkata, it was confused and somewhat cautious of you. It's understandable when you're meeting a complete stranger. But seeing Tighnari was the one who took you there, Karkata quickly warmed up to you.
"So, Karkata was created by your junior researcher named Abattouy?" you asked as you pet the mechanical crab.
Tighnari who was leaning against a tree answered, "Yes, he was the one expelled from the Akademiya for researching mechanical life forms. When Karkata took me and the Traveler to their 'new home', we only found his already cold body."
You grimaced at the image in your head. "I wouldn't know how to react if I were it too. Poor Karkata, it must have been through a lot..."
Suddenly, you took out a bracelet and tied it to one of Karkata's joints.
"Karkata, if you ever feel that you're troubled, always remember this bracelet. Come meet me at Gandharva Ville. Oh wait, do you even know the way there? Don't worry, next time ask Tighnari to show you the way."
(Flashback ends)
"Kalu! Kalu!"
"Agh... What is it, Karkata?"
The mechanical crab immediately showed the bracelet, and Tighnari slowly caught on.
"Isn't that the bracelet that Y/n gave you? What, do you want me to take you to her?"
"Kolu!"
Tighnari sighed. "As much as I want to, I can't. I can't move and who will look after Haypasia even if I could? Actually, now if I think about it, how can I even get there?"
Tumblr media
(Back at Gandharva Ville)
"Aha! I won!"
"Aww, I lost... I must say, you're getting better at this, Zahra."
Sitting on the floor of Collei's hut, they were playing a game of Genius Invocation TCG with you as the audience. Collei won the previous match, this time it was Zahra's turn to win.
"Hehe, I like it when I win. Let's play again!" Zahra exclaimed.
"If you two keep going at it, eventually I will understand how to play this game. I can't focus on my work if all I think about is tactics and strategy to win. Plus, it's getting late and way past your bedtime."
"Aww, just one more match please~"
"At first I also still wanted to play because we tied. But now that I think about it, I'm getting pretty sleepy..." Collei spoke up.
"See, even your contender is unable to keep up. You can continue this tomorrow. Now, put your cards back into the box."
Zahra started tidying up her cards while you help Collei put her cards back into her Casket of Tomes. After she finished, Zahra's ears started twitching again, causing the fox girl to turn her head.
"Uncle Amir's dogs are barking again. Shouldn't they know how to behave by now?" Zahra said as she exits Collei's hut.
You and Collei watched Zahra leave before looking at each other and laughed.
"Be sure to wear a blanket when you sleep. It feels like it's going to be cold tonight."
"Mm-hm, I will. Goodnight, Y/n."
You kissed Collei goodnight before exiting her hut. You then found Zahra with her hands on her hips, examining the broken bridge.
"Someone really should do something about this bridge... Ooh! I have an idea."
Zahra then used the Dendro Vision on her to lift the two ends of the bridge and connect it with flowering vines.
"Eeepp! Doesn't that look pretty? Especially if you add small lanterns to the bridge," she said, satisfied with her work.
"As for the lanterns, I'll talk about it to your father or other Forest Watchers. And you should probably give back my Dendro Vision, Zahra. You wouldn't know when I'll need it."
"We're just dealing with some unruly dogs. There's no need to use your Vision, Mom."
Zahra was wrong. It wasn't just some unruly dogs. Amir's dogs were barking at the cowering Karkata who has brought Tighnari back to Gandharva Ville.
"Ugh...! Amir, can you tell your dogs to back down? They're scaring Karkata..."
"I'm trying...! Hey guys, calm down. The mechanical crab is friendly. It's one of us...! Come on, Sag. You're my best student, you should know better."
After seemingly succeeded in calming the dogs down, you arrived at the scene. The person you were waiting for his return was indeed back, but not in the condition you expected him to be.
"Tighnari?"
As Amir helped Tighnari down from Karkata, he let out a grunt, which made you rush to his side.
"What happened to you?"
"Stuff happened. It escalated to me having to clash with the Fatui and... Please don't panic when I say this... *sigh* ...I got struck by lightning," he answered.
"You got struck by lightning?!" You and Amir said at the same time.
Even though Tighnari told you not to panic, you couldn't help but do the exact opposite of what he just said. I mean, how could you not panic? The love of your life literally fought off soldiers from the most powerful military force in all of Teyvat, and then he got struck by lightning? How could you not?!
"In that case, I should carry you back to your hut. Here, get on my back," Amir said as he crouched down.
"That's not necessary, Amir. I can walk on my own."
Amir who was getting tired of his resisting colleague argued, "Please don't be so stubborn, Tighnari. What if you injure yourself more on the way there?"
"Here. Use this instead."
Zahra who had been silent all this time, suddenly brought a stretcher made from your Dendro Vision's powers. She probably made it when you and Amir were panicking over Tighnari.
"Good thinking, Zahra! Alright, hand it to me," Amir said.
Tighnari sighed as he turned to his daughter, "You really shouldn't have, Zahra... I already told you... I'm... fine..."
"Tighnari!"
Tighnari's words trailed off as he slowly fell backwards. Luckily you were right beside him and were able to quickly caught him.
"Okay, maybe now the stretcher is needed. Nasrin, can you help us out over here? We need the extra help."
Tumblr media
(In the early morning)
"Tighnari? Are you awake?"
Cyno the General Mahamatra invited himself to enter the Forest Watcher's hut. When he saw Tighnari and you had fallen asleep, holding his hand on the side of the bed, he wanted to take back his stupid question. But he was too late, because someone already answered him.
"Nope, obviously not. But I am, so, there's that."
"What are you doing up so early?"
It was Zahra, the Little Forest Ranger in Training. She was eating something as she sat down on her foldable mattress on the floor.
"I couldn't sleep after what happened last night, and probably because of the adrenaline that caused me not to realize that I'm hungry. I didn't want to wake anyone up so I cooked up a bowl of mushroom rice for myself," she said.
"Then it must have been serious. Can you tell me what happened?" Cyno asked.
"I can, but not here. Again, I didn't want to wake anyone up and they both really needed their sleep. Let's go outside."
"Wait, before that, do you have a spare blanket that you're not using?"
'The General Mahamatra is cold?' is what Zahra first thought of when Cyno asked that question. Not wanting to question him, Zahra went to get a blanket that was stored in the lower cabinet of a shelving unit.
She then gave the blanket to Cyno, who then draped it over your shoulders. Zahra couldn't help but “aww-ed” a little.
"There. Come on, let's go," Cyno said.
With her blanket tied around her neck and her bowl of mushroom rice in hand, Zahra and Cyno exited the hut and looked for a place to sit.
"Now that we're outside, can you tell me what happened?"
Zahra then recounted the incident last night.
"I had just finished playing Genius Invocation TCG with Collei when I heard Uncle Amir's dog barking. So me and Mom went to che—"
"Did you win or did you lose?"
"Huh?"
Cyno's interruption did surprise Zahra, but she laughed it off. "We actually tied. So we'll continue it tomorro– Wait... technically it's today huh..."
"Hm. And although I can't be there to witness it, I'll be rooting for the both of you. I don't care who wins or loses, I will be happy either way."
"Aww, thanks. Now, can I continue the story?"
(A flashback that's written from Zahra's POV)
I watched as Nasrin and Uncle Amir carried Papa off to the hut, with Mom following behind. I then approached the mechanical crab that had been silent from earlier.
"I believe your name is Karkata, isn't it? I just wanted to say on behalf of my mom and also from myself, thank you for bringing my Papa back safely. She didn't mean to forget to thank you, probably because of her panic. And don't worry, Papa is in good hands. I've made sure of it."
"Kolu!"
"Hehe. Now go hang out somewhere away from the dogs. I'll go check on things over there."
By the time I got inside, they've already taken off Papa's hoodie. I still remember how shocked I was to see the scar on his upper body. It spread out like tree roots, with an electrifying purple tint.
I can't lie that I'm scared and worried, but I'm trying to keep my cool. On the other hand, mom is really freaking out. She paced around the room, checking Papa over multiple times, getting ingredients for the ointment, even messing up her workplace in the process.
At that moment, I just knew I had to do something.
"Zahra, give me back my Dendro Vision. I need it to–"
I grabbed onto Mom's hands and held it, looking at her with a stern look. I could tell from her face that she was a little surprised by my actions.
"I can take over from here. You can go out and take a breather."
I knew Mom would refuse and try to argue, so I quickly silenced her.
"It's okay, you've done well. You deserve a break."
She simply sighed and left the hut.
(Flashback and Zahra's POV ends)
"So what happened afterwards?" Cyno asked.
"Well, I did my thing and let Mom back in. I found her hugging her knees just outside the hut on the floor. She immediately rushed to Papa's side the moment I told her she was allowed back in. It also couldn't be help that the commotion woke Collei up..."
"Hm. I see..."
Cyno then went silent and was deep in thought. Zahra was silent too and was just about to spoon a spoonful of mushroom rice into her mouth, when she realized that her bowl was empty.
'Aww, I'm out of mushroom rice...' she thought.
Suddenly, the General Mahamatra stood up and pat Zahra on the head.
"Whaa– Hey!"
"I have to go now. Today is going to be a big day for the people of Sumeru, and I have to make sure the preparation is thorough. Get enough rest so you can win that Genius Invocation TCG match!" Cyno said.
"Oh, okay. Geez, excited much... Uhh, good luck, Uncle Cyno!"
Tumblr media
(A couple of days later)
You heard the sound of birds chirping, that meant your consciousness was starting to return. When you woke up and looked at the hut's entrance covered by the large leaf curtains, you noticed how bright it is outside. It couldn't be that it's still early, right? So you got up, tidy up your bed and headed out.
"Good morning, Y/n! I see that you decided to sleep in today. So I made some Pita Pockets for breakfast. Would you like one?"
As you rubbed your eyes, you processed the voice that greeted you. And after a while, you realized it was Collei.
"Collei? What are you doing out of bed? You could've gotten yourself injured. What if you fall over?"
"No, it's okay. Don't worry! I feel much more energized than the previous day," she replied.
Hearing her reply, you then sighed. "I appreciate your effort in convincing me, Collei. But I'm afraid I–"
"No, this is for real! It feels like as if my Eleazar disappeared without a trace..."
"...What?"
Unintentionally, you pulled Collei's hand a little too hard to confirm what she said. When you realized you're being too rough, you murmured a quiet 'sorry' before continuing. You detached her sleeves to see the dark, hardened scales on her wrists had disappeared completely.
(Somewhere nearby)
Tighnari and Zahra were alerted by the sound of crying, sounding like it was coming from nearby. The Forest Watcher asked her to investigate the sound with him. The little fox-eared girl quickly stuffed her half-eaten Pita Pocket into her mouth, before putting down her plate and taking her other Pita Pocket with her.
"Y/n, what happened?"
The moment they reached the location, Zahra and Tighnari were stunned. They saw you crying as you crouched down and Collei who was confused about how to comfort you.
While Zahra took a bite of her Pita Pocket as a way of reducing her shock, Tighnari let out a sigh of contentment.
"I guess you found out about Collei's recovery if you're crying like that, Y/n. I too was shocked when she said that the scales on her body had disappeared. At first I thought that it was impossible since Eleazar had no known cure, but I gave up figuring out how. I think, for now, it's best if we be grateful for this unexpected miracle."
"I can assure you that these are tears of happiness, Tighnari," you said as you hugged the Trainee Forest Ranger.
The Forest Watcher came closer and pulled the both of you into a hug. Zahra who was still chewing the rest of her Pita Pocket, quickly swallowed it and joined in.
"Hey, I'm being left out! Group hug!"

[Author's Note]: Oh noo, poor Hat Guy 😅 I'm sorry this took so long, but I managed to finish it as my internship program is coming to an end. I only have about 10 days of break before returning back to school 😭
Hopefully I could finish that other request that's nowhere near done before I start my senior year of high school. Wish me luck :')

The aftermath of Dating Cyno (featuring Tighnari)
Dating Cyno is here. Gender neutral reader, angst lol.
--
You started to volunteer as a forest ranger when you realised you couldn't work anywhere else without thinking of Cyno. You saw him around often when you weren't in Ghandarva ville, and it never stopped hurting when he no longer showed you any affectionate looks. You knew you could defend yourself and fight when it was needed, and you never fully understood why Cyno thought the relationship being public would be an issue.
Tighnari found out more about you when you volunteered more, asking him if you could perhaps work there. He asked for your CV, expecting a subpar thing, only to be impressed when he spots your previous work. He takes you under his wing, taking you along for more difficult excursions.
When he asks you to accompany him to an outing with his friend, you nod. You thought it would be nice to see what your boss was like outside of work, and you felt like you were finally starting to move on from Cyno.
When you see Cyno with someone there, you were dreading the whole thing. The dinner consisted of Tighnari shaking his head disapprovingly at Cyno whenever he cracked a joke, the person sitting next to him hugging his arm and giggling at whatever Cyno said - even the things that were so obviously not jokes - and you feeling entirely out of place. Cyno didn't dare look at you either, and you thought it was simply because he was sick of seeing you all the time.
"What do you think of the joke, hmm?" Cynos partner asks, looking over at you. "I found it hilarious. Babe, you're so funny."
You manage to stop the eye roll, but you can't stop the unimpressed look.
"It wasn't funny." You bluntly state.
Tighnari nods, expecting that to be that.
"Oh, you're just jealous that the funniest man in Teyvat is not single." The person presses themselves against Cynos arm, him not making a move to shake them off.
"I'm not jealous of a man who makes terrible jokes." You state. Tighnari tries to stop you from being too harsh, but he's unable to stop it. "If he wants a laugh out of people - a genuine laugh - he needs to try."
Silence at the dinner table, the clanking of cutlery being the only thing in the room. You excuse yourself from the table, paying for the meal before leaving. Hearing a set of footsteps chasing to catch up with you, you brace yourself for a scolding.
"What was that?" Tighnari asks.
"What? He isn't funny." You continue to be blunt.
"But that felt way more personal than what most people would say." Tighnari explains. "I want to know why you were so abrupt with Cyno."
"Promise to keep this to yourself?" You ask, looking around to check nobody is eavesdropping. Seeing a nod, as well as nobody else, you continue. "Cyno and I used to be lovers. He forbade us from being public, explaining it was for my safety. Seeing that person being affectionate hurt."
Tighnari nods in understanding.
"If I am being honest, I think you'd treat my friend better than that gold digger." Tighnari states, catching you off guard. "What? It's true, isn't it? The way they kept batting their eyelashes, ordering the more luxurious items on the menu and finding every little thing Cyno said funny?"
"I got all that, but you couldn't think of another term?" You scold him lightly, Tighnari smirking as he shakes his head no.
"Well, I'm sorry for ruining the atmosphere at the table there regardless." You apologise.
"Don't be." Tighnari states. "I think both Cyno and myself felt happier in a way. It stopped that person from being as blatant as they were before." He laughs lightly, looking over at the forest. "I wished you told me about the situation, although I think I should have told you about my friend as well." He reasons.
You nod, thinking to yourself once again.
"So...when did Cyno start dating them?" You ask. "Not that I'm hoping to be a replacement, I just want to know if I was somehow a side piece. I don't think he would do that, but I would like that closure as well."
"Well, I believe they only started dating a few days ago based on his letters. It is strange, Cyno accepting that much affection this early." Tighnari sighs out. "Maybe he's growing desperate."
A desperate man that wasn't happy with the idea of you being affectionate in public with him in the entire duration of your relationship, you think to yourself.
"Less of that." Tighnari scolds lightly. "Yes, you said that out loud." He tuts, you now at your house. "Well, get some rest, and don't let that gold digger get you down." He waves, heading back home.

Denial is Futile: Wanderer x f!reader - Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Read on AO3 | Series Masterlist
Summary: The cute and sweet guy from the bazaar was brought to your place while unconscious. But when he woke up, you were appalled by the amount of snark he had. Was he even the same person? And now you were stuck with him because he could literally die if he stopped holding your hand. You weren't sure if you could tolerate him any longer. Little did you know he was exactly the type of person you needed in your life.
Other info: Fluff, humor, sfw, enemies to lovers, some hurt/comfort and angst later, character growth, occurs after the version 3.3 Archon quest and Tighnari's story quest, female reader
Word count: 2.1k
*****
You fell back onto the bed with arms spread out, taking in the comfort of a real mattress. You finally won't be on the floor tonight.
You've been sleeping at Collei's place ever since you started as an intern here. The Akademiya was testing out a new program for young scholars to get some more practical experience while continuing their studies. You were stationed at Gandharva Ville for a few months under Tighnari's mentorship.
For now, you took over the odd jobs that Collei would have done, but being out here at least gave you a chance to see the plants you studied for yourself. Maybe next time, you could intern in the desert. You imagined the plants there would be completely different from where you grew up.
You rolled over on the bed and closed your eyes, thankful Collei was letting you use her bed while she was visiting Mondstadt. Today was your day off, so you could afford a nap. You closed your eyes and snuggled into your blanket as you began to drift off.
"Hey!" It was Kamran's voice from outside. The forest ranger rushed through the entrance and Iraj followed after him. "You can help us, right?" Kamran asked. A body hung limp across his back, completely unconscious.
Your jaw dropped.
It wasn't unusual for the rangers to bring in someone who needed medical attention. Over the months you were here, a few people came to Tighnari for minor injuries, despite his frequent warnings. But you hadn't encountered someone in this state before.
From Kamran and Iraj's reaction, it seemed that finding someone unconscious wasn't new. But why did they bring him to you? You were a student, not a doctor.
"What happened?" you asked.
"We found him near a batch of speckled posies," Kamran told you.
"But those are harmless," you said. You recently studied them during your previous semester. You could even visualize it among your stack of flashcards.
"That's what we thought too," Iraj said. "That's why we brought him to you, in case you knew more information about them."
"That's all I know right now." You bit your lip, glancing out the door. "Where's Tighnari?"
"He's on his way back from Pardis Dhyai," Iraj replied. Tighnari must have been there checking on Karkata.
You nibbled on your nail. "Alright." You headed to your desk and grabbed a couple of textbooks. You hoped there would be some useful information in them. "Bring him in for now while we figure something out," you told them.
Kamran laid the patient on your bed while you flipped through the pages of the textbook on Avidya flowers. The chapter on speckled posies was somewhere near the back.
"Here is it," you said, walking back to your bed.
Thud.
Your textbook hit the floor. You covered your mouth, shocked to see who was in front of you. You didn't get a clear look at him earlier, but now seeing his outfit and then verifying his face, you wished it wasn't him.
He was the guy you met at the Grand Bazaar.
*****
The lighting grew dim as you entered the heart of Sumeru City, a whole marketplace among massive trunks and broad-covered leaves. The bazaar was still as grand as the first time you entered it. There was nothing like this back in Inazuma.
You stared up at the greenery, but you were pushed forward, about to fall flat on your face. You held your hands out front, bracing for impact, when someone grabbed the back of your shirt.
You let out your breath. That was close. But when you turned around, a sunsettia was about to smack you in the face. You caught it just in time.
"Sorry about that," he said with a soft and gentle voice. "I didn't see you there."
In front of you was a stack of three – no, four – crates balanced on his left hand.
"Are you alright?" he asked as he let go of your shirt.
He seemed like a regular guy to you. He had a blue and white outfit and wore an oddly large hat. He wasn't bad looking: a slender build, indigo hair framing his face and his eyes were…
"Hey," he said, catching your attention. "You okay?"
"Yeah," you replied, breaking your eyes away from him. "I'm fine." You stared at the sunsettia in your hand, not knowing where else to look. The surface of your cheeks heated up. You weren't sure if it was merely because you were embarrassed.
"Is there–"
You flinched, startling him as well. Why were you getting surprised by his voice? He wasn't even loud. You never used to be scared of anything.
"Is there any way I can make it up to you?" he asked.
"Nope," you told him, taking a peek to force yourself to look at him. You didn't want him to think you were avoiding him. "I'm fine," you quickly added as you handed him the sunsettia.
He shook his head. "You keep it," he told you, touching your hand and gently pushing it back. "It's the least I could do." You felt a tingle where his hand met yours.
"I... Umm..." You tilted your head down, attempting to hide your growing smile. "Thank you."
"Hey, kid," a tall, burly man walked up to him. He stared at him from head to toe, in awe of the number of crates he was holding. "How in the world can you carry all those sunsettias?" he asked. "You don't even have a vision."
"I'm not quite sure," he said. "But I'm glad I can use my strength to pay you back, Boss."
They started some small talk with you, perhaps because the boss was hoping to get some business from you after learning you were new here. They soon returned to their stand, but as the guy left, he waved back at you one last time.
When he wasn't watching, you smacked your forehead. It had been a long time since you've felt nervous, although for a different reason. At least here you could say you had decent taste. He seemed like a sweet guy. You wanted to deny it, but in the back of your mind, you wished you could meet him again some day.
*****
This was not how you wanted to meet him again.
He was passed out on your bed, lifeless as if he were a puppet with no strings. You bit your lip, praying he would survive whatever illness he was going through. It hurt to see a guy like him unconscious in front of you with no means of waking him up. He didn't deserve this.
"I don't understand," Tighnari said as he continued to examine him. "There's no reason he would have effects this severe. Perhaps there is another reason for his reaction."
"We didn't find anything else in the area, sir," said Kamran. "Although… we may have missed something since our priority was to bring him to safety. There were other creatures around."
"Hmm…," said Tighnari. "It seems we'll have to go on the information we have then. I've never seen anyone react this way." He checked the patient's forehead and pulse. Tighnari's eyes widened. "Upon closer inspection, his situation is similar to when Karta–"
Tighnari got up and picked up his satchel. He headed for the door. "I'll be right back," he informed you. "But see what you can do for now. Kamran, Iraj, you're coming with me."
Your hands clammed up, paralyzed from having your mentor practically abandoning you to fend for yourself with little instruction. You peeked at your unconscious patient with no clue what to do.
But something bothered you. What did Tighnari see when he checked on him? With hesitation, you reached out to touch his forehead, hoping you'd gain some insight.
He wasn't breathing.
Were his airways blocked? What was Tighnari thinking? The forest rangers? Did they not notice? Did he only stop breathing now?
You pulled down his jaw to check if anything was stuck in his throat. You tried to remember that first aid and CPR book you randomly read when your roommate was out. You weren't trained for this. What should you do?
His eyes opened.
"Ahhhhhhh!!!!" you screamed, pulling your hand away. His eyes were still opened but he wasn't moving, just laying on the bed. What the heck was going on?
You cursed under your breath, convinced your spirit had left your body. You slowly reached out to him to check on him again. At the touch of your skin, he moved his hand.
You braced yourself for whatever you thought was going to happen, but relaxed a little when he simply raised his hand to touch his forehead.
"What just happened?" he groaned.
"You were unconscious," you told him.
"I knew that much," he said, his tone slightly more sarcastic than you had expected it to be.
He tried to sit up and you helped him since you thought he wouldn't be feeling well. He leaned his back against the wall and his gold pendant dropped down and dangled off of his shoulder. Your eyes grew wide as his anemo vision swayed back and forth in front of you. Did he always have one?
You shook your head. Focus. Forget about the vision.
"So are you just going to sit there and keep holding me up or…"
"You weren't breathing!" you spat out. "So I was trying to check your airways and–"
"Are you stupid or something?" he asked.
"What?" You blinked a few times. Where did that come from?
"Are you so dumb as to not notice I'm not human?"
"I… um…," you stammered. It was true you shouldn't have assumed but even youkai needed to breathe. "Well, you were the one who was passed out in the middle of the forest."
"What's your point?"
"You–" No. Calm down. You didn't want your anger to get the best of you. You took a deep breath and tried again. "They found you near some speckled posies. We currently think that might be the cause."
He let out a scoff. "So after all those experiments, I've been bested by a flower. Ha. Pathetic."
Your eyes widen, not recognizing the guy in front of you anymore. Who was he?
"No wonder why they ditched me," he muttered to himself.
Oh. Maybe he was acting this way because someone had wronged him. You tried to be more compassionate with him.
"I don't think you're pathetic," you told him. "You know you're actually really strong, right? Not many can hold a stack of filled crates on one hand. Besides," you strained a smile at him, "personality is much more important."
"Did you get that from the latest self-help seminar?"
"Excuse me?"
"What? Just calling it as it is."
What was his problem? Was he even the same guy you met before?
"Are you actually his evil twin?" you asked.
He raised a brow. "What are you going on about?"
"You know. You… or at least someone who looks like you was at the bazaar?" you told him.
"Ha. Hahahaha." His laughter sounded awkwardly evil. "That was me alright." He leaned toward you, riling you up "What? I'm not your style now?"
He had to be lying. There was no way someone's personality could change so drastically. But one glance at his vision was all it took to remind you it was possible.
A knot formed in your stomach. "Look," you told him, grinding your teeth. "I'm here trying to help you, but–"
"Get off me."
"What?" you snapped at him.
"I don't need your help."
Your hand was on his upper arm to support him in case he might have gotten dizzy and fainted. Why did you even bother?
"Well? Aren't you–”
You let go.
His whole body went limp and nearly hit the bed. You were so shocked that you caught him as a reflex.
His brows furrowed. "Didn't you hear me? I said hands off–"
You let go again, but this time you let him drop on the floor. He could stay like that for all you cared.
He remained on the floor, but your heart ran a little faster every second he stayed unconscious. His body was curled up next to the bed, his arm was bent in an awkward way and his cheek was firmly planted on the ground.
"Hey," you said, hoping for a response. "Hey." Your voice began to reveal your panic. "This isn't funny," you said, pulling his arm. "You'd better stop–"
"Why am I on the floor?"
Your eyes grew wide as he stared straight back at you. This wasn't a joke. He went unconscious every time you let go of him and woke up every single time you held onto him.
What exactly was going on?

burnt out - tighnari
Pairing: Boyfriend!Tighnari x Student!Reader
Genre: Angst, I guess? Comfort later, though. Female reader.
Word Count: 2.5k
Notes: You’ve been working toward your degree at the Academiya for four years now, and as the days go on, Tighnari starts to notice that your diligence to your studies has gone by the wayside. Just when he thinks he has to have a talk with you, it’s brought to his attention that you aren’t just slacking off, but that there’s a bigger problem at hand. (Very self-indulgent lmao.)
Warnings: mentions of burnout and all the things that come of it! Tighnari is unaware of the situation so he’s a bit brash at first. (He also might be a little OOC im so sorry.) Vomiting is also mentioned – not graphically, just mentioned a few times. Also not entirely for sure how the Academiya runs in genshin but I structured it kind of like college to make it easier for me :)
“So, I got the exam, right? And I looked at the first page and was like, ‘Whoa, I know this stuff!’ And I just went through the whole test like that, so I think I did well! There were a couple I was confused about, but I think I got them, so I’m not too worried.” You stood from the crouched position you had been in and sighed, wiping the sweat from off your brow as you waited for an approving response from your boyfriend.
“You always study hard, so I would expect nothing less from you,” was the response Tighnari gave and oh, how damaging to you would it soon turn out to be.
It was a slow process, of course. It wasn’t like you just woke up one day and decided that you had no urge to even step foot on the premise of the Academiya, let alone even gaze in its direction. It was a gradual feeling that started to bubble within after four years of diligent studying and research to graduate and obtain a much sought-after degree in biology. This was a goal you had always been passionate about. Ever since you were young, you always wanted to learn more about the world around you, specifically nature’s role in it. You were still in the process of trying to write your thesis, with the help of your just as diligent boyfriend, Tighnari. Of course, the thesis work was all you – he was just there for support and to help out when needed. A lot of your time together was spent outside in the rainforest, collecting data and observing nature do it’s thing.
You spend a lot of time at Pardis Dhyai, since a lot of your research revolves around botany, but you also travel to Gandharva Ville not only to see your lover but also for research purposes. Your time spent in the rainforest with the forest watchers was always brief and you’d return back to Pardis Dhyai almost as soon as you left, but your stays have gotten longer. At first, you said it was because your work that needed to be done back at “home base” as you referred to it as didn’t have to start as soon as you woke up in the morning but then you changed your story to “Gandharva ville has more materials I need for my research.” Either one was acceptable; after all, students do tend to travel all over the place to gather material and data for their research topics. It wasn’t uncommon for you to even go someplace else in Sumeru for a couple days. The only problem with your second excuse was that you spent more time in Tighnari’s abode rather than outside inspecting plants and their habitats.
“You’re still here? I thought you said you were going to go out in the field today,” Tighnari said, seeing that you sitting at his desk, a notebook opened in front of you. The pages were blank except for a few scribbles and doodles. When he had left earlier, you had told him you needed to go into the field and see how the plants you were observing were doing since you hadn’t since last week. But it appeared that you hadn’t even attempted to leave.
“Oh, yeah, I had a lot to do this week so I thought I’d take it easy today, actually,” you answered.
“Understandable,” was all he replied with, a feeling of doubt surfacing that was quickly shaken away.
This theme of your “I need to blah blah blah” statements and then never actually doing what “needed” to be done became a very frequent occurrence. “Didn’t you say the test this week was super hard? I haven’t seen you touch your notes once in the past two days,” Tighnari noted as you ate lunch one day by a stream.
“It’s not until later in the week so I have time,” you said, shrugging. He decided not to press the issue further, putting his trust in the fact that you’d most likely just study when it came closer to time. Though, he’d really suggest starting now, but oh well.
And it continued like this, but you’d come back and explain that you didn’t do as well on that test as you thought you would followed by, “I should’ve studied more, but I just felt like I couldn’t.” Tighnari asked why you would return so late to Pardis Dhyai when you had work to do there, but you’d just brush it off and say that you could take care of it, you just might have to work longer one day. He’d stand at the entrance of your little “home base” and wave at you, telling you to have a nice rest of the week with a voice in his head saying that something was up with you but he just couldn’t put his finger on it.
You were always so diligent with your schoolwork. So focused and never missing a due date. You were always in the field, ready to learn and make observations. You’d go through notebook after notebook, filling the pages with endless pieces of knowledge and experiences you had come across, completely immersing yourself in your work and loving every minute of it. But now, you were different. Things had changed over these past four years. You weren’t as eager to go out in the field with him and when you were, the enjoyment didn’t last long and you’d get restless and distracted from the tasks at hand. Your stays at his place consisted of basically just you sleeping over until you stated you were ready for him to walk you back to Pardis Dhyai. You didn’t have your nose in books or notes anymore or ask him to quiz you for your next test. It was almost as if you weren’t even a student anymore. Were you just… becoming lazy? Surely not, as that was so unlike you. Perhaps… you had grown to dislike your degree choice, or realized that you just didn’t like it as much as you thought.
Tighnari decided he needed to address this concern of his to you and figure out what was going on. Maybe you just needed a little push to get going again! If that was the case, he was always there to encourage you. Hopefully you hadn’t forgotten all the times he’s helped you with your research, because if you were stuck and didn’t know how to continue with it, he’d totally help you out just as he had before.
When Tighnari entered Gandharva Ville, he was approached by Collei before he could reach his home. “Master Tighnari!” the young girl greeted. “I was waiting for you to return. I was wanting to ask you if there’s anything I could do to help (Y/N)? I didn’t know she was sick and I feel bad for not keeping her company while you were gone.”
“Sick?” Tighnari echoed. “I didn’t know she was sick, either.” His brows furrowed and gazed off into the distance, looking at his home and wondering what he had missed while he was out.
“Oh?” Collei bit at the inside of her cheek as she followed the male’s gaze. “I figured (Y/N) hadn’t ate yet, so I made her a couple pita pockets so she could take a break from her studies. When I walked in, though, she was sitting on the ground with her head in her hands. She said she had just thrown up.”
A lot of thoughts were running through the forest ranger’s mind. At first, he had wanted to retort and say that you probably weren’t studying earlier, but rather drawing meaningless doodles in the pages of your notebook that should have your work written on them instead. But you had thrown up? Tighnari didn’t even waste another second, but instead headed straight to his home.
Upon entering, you were seated on the bed, braiding a series of small flowers together into bracelets, something you’d always do when you were little and out playing in the forest with your friends. You had made several of these for Tighnari in the past, all of which were dried and turning to dust somewhere in a vase in his house. You looked up before going back to your braiding. “I know, I know. I’m not studying. You don’t have to say anything this time,” you said softly, a bit of strain in your voice.
Ouch. “That’s not-“ he sighed, “Collei said you were sick?”
“Huh? Oh, yeah. I just threw up a little. My throat still hurts a bit, but I’m fine,” you responded, a bit of what he assumed was embarrassment written on your face.
Your boyfriend observed the space around you. A half-eaten pita pocket lay on a plate, discarded on his desk, cold and stale. Next to it, your books were open and your notebook was out and he was surprised to see that you had actually been studying. “Why did you throw up? Had you eaten something previously that upset you?”
“No,” you replied. “I hadn’t eaten anything all day until Collei made lunch. I had been doing work all morning since you left.” As Tighnari observed you, he made note of the redness of your eyes. He remembered when he left this morning on his forest ranger duties, giving a hasty kiss on your cheek before he departed, hoping not to wake you up since you were still asleep. That was another thing – you’ve spent a lot of your time taking naps or just laying in bed until it was time to eat, but sometimes, you’d even skip that. More pieces started to fit together in his mind.
Before he could hit you with another round of questions to try to deduce why you had gotten sick earlier, you said something that tied it all together for him.
“I was just doing some of my work and I got overwhelmed. Before I knew it, I felt the need to vomit and thankfully-”
The rest of your statement about how you got out and away from Tighnari’s things just before you vomited didn’t matter because it suddenly made sense now. He just… he just didn’t know how to tell you because it was obvious you weren’t aware of the situation.
“I’m glad you’re feeling better,” he said, coming to sit next to you on the bed. He picked up one of the carefully made bracelets and ran his hand through it before taking it off and laying it back down. The silence was unbearable to him. “About what you said earlier, though, I’m sorry for always getting onto you for not studying. It’s really none of my business. I just know how much you want this degree and I don’t want to see you give up on it.” Maybe he could ease you into this conversation to make things easier.
You exhaled a tired sigh. “It’s okay. I know I should study more. I just… don’t always feel like it and when I do go to study, like today, I just get so… sick. I threw up last week, too, in Pardis Dhyai. I don’t know what’s going on, to be honest.”
“Do you think that maybe you’re just burnt out?”
Your eyes widened a bit, and you peered up at him as he looked at you, his eyes full of concern and worry. You quickly looked away, your fingers fumbling with the flower bracelet in your hand. “No. How could I be burnt out when I love what I do?”
“I understand thinking that, but (Y/N), it’s more common than you’d think.” He shifted his position to be a bit closer and he gently grabbed one your hands to still your fidgeting. “You’ve worked so hard for so long, it’s normal for this to happen.”
“Yeah, but I always take breaks,” you retorted. “I shouldn’t be burnt out already. Not like this.”
His thumb rubbed gentle, loving circles into the back of your palm. “Even before you joined the Academiya, you were working on what your thesis would be and what research you would do. You’ve put in so much time for so long.” He paused, watching a tear drop from the corner of your eye. “You haven’t mentioned your thesis in a while, either.”
“They keep getting rejected,” you hiccupped, pulling your hand away from his. You turned away, feeling a sense of shame because of the position you were in. You pulled your knees up to your chest and let out a shaky breath, feeling the sick, overwhelmed feeling from earlier settle into your stomach again. “I keep trying to come up with something new and interesting, but it’s never enough. I want to keep trying because I love this – I love the research, the new things I discover, the people and places. But ever since my third thesis was rejected, I just felt… I just felt sick every time I think of doing field work.”
Tighnari didn’t know how best to comfort you in this situation. If it was him, he would just want to be left alone to regain his composure, but he knew you didn’t function like that. He moved his position to sit beside you once again and he placed an arm around your waist to pull you toward him. “It’s not uncommon to get your thesis rejected, y/n, so don’t let that discourage you-”
“But it keeps happening,” you cried, your tears dropping onto his clothes. “I don’t feel like this dream of mine is even meant for me anymore. Maybe I’m not cut out-”
“Hey, hey,” Tighnari interrupted you, his voice firm. “Don’t even begin to think like that, because it’s not true. Some of the smartest people out there have gotten multiple theses rejected. That doesn’t mean they weren’t capable of achieving what they wanted. It just means it took a little extra time. And there’s nothing wrong with that. But there is something wrong with you discrediting yourself and your abilities, because you are more than capable of reaching your goals and everyone around you can see that.”
“I’m just worried that if I don’t achieve this, I’ll let you and everyone else down,” you murmured.
“You could never let me down,” he said, sincerity clear in his words. Your lips quivered and you felt more tears surface as you turned to hug your boyfriend. Those were some of the exact words you needed to hear at the moment, and you would most likely need to him say them again at a later time, but right now was all you needed to feel a spot of hope begin to grow inside you. Once he was sure your cries had calmed down enough for you to listen to him again, Tighnari planted a kiss on the top of your head before he pulled back to give you another on your nose. “And you know I’m always here to help you, no matter what it is. I’m rooting for you, Collei is rooting for you, and I’m sure the other forest watchers are, too. We all know that you’re capable of accomplishing this, now you just have to believe in yourself.”

Better than you could aspire to be - Tighnari
Angst time! This is an isekai, not as long as I feared it would be. Tighnari is the one that goes into a different world, it'll make sense. Gender neutral reader, sad ending
Tighnari worked in a fast food place in his own world. See, he was a student, and the only place that would willingly take students were such places. He grew to hate this more intensely as he continued to work, somehow keeping up with his studies in botany. The smell of the food that smelled so unappetising after working around the food items for so long, the fact he had to scrub his ears to get food out that had been thrown by a rude customer, and on top of that he had people constantly pointing phones into his face and gushing over his 'cute ears'. He found himself daydreaming the day he could finally stop working in this hellhole, where he could finally enjoy his work in a field he loved.
City noises were excessive as well, the transport to his university not helping with anything apart from getting him from point a to b. Again, he knew people were taking pictures of his ears and shamelessly talking about how big they were. Some people said it must be a cosmetic, others saying that he was compensating for something else. Truthfully, he grew to despise them. The way people had no shame, the way some people even had the audacity to touch them without asking.
One day, he finished a particularly heavy shift, and he flopped onto the bed without even having the energy to stay awake. In his uniform, he tries to remind himself to change once he wakes up.
--
The next day, he wakes up in an unfamiliar forest. The flora around him didn't look familiar, the strange statue that loomed above and various other contraptions he was clueless about. He goes to check his phone, only to sigh when he realises that his phone was dead.
You hear the man call out, waking you up early, and you decide to go out to investigate. Looking over, you see a man in a strange uniform you never saw before. Sure, you usually stay in the forest, but you saw a lot of outfits on those who got lost in the forest and this was nothing like that. Walking down, you wave at the man, who looks up from the device in his hands.
"Hello! Are you lost?" You ask, seeing the man nod. "You are currently in Ghandara ville."
"Where is that?" The man asks. "I've never heard of that place."
"Sumeru? Teyvat?" You ask, the man in front of you only growing more confused. Looking down, you see he keeps glancing at the thing in his hands. "What's that?" You ask, genuinely curious.
"Oh, this is my phone. Do you have a charger handy?" The man asks, only to look more defeated when you explain you don't have one, nor do you understand what the phone was. "I'm from _, I work in McDonalds." The man explains, only to see you now confused.
"Well, I'm sure we'll figure out something!" You exclaim, hoping to cheer the man up. I am _, head forest ranger." You introduce yourself.
"Tighnari, Botany student and fast food worker." The man introduces himself.
You nod, taking interest in him stating he was a botany student where he was from.
"Well, if you'd like I can get in touch with a good friend of mine to get you into a botany course!" You start, before continuing."And you can stay here and work as a forest ranger!"
You expect Tighnari to go against the idea of being a forest ranger in an unfamiliar place, and he does hesitate for a second, but he decides to nod. Of course, you agree to train him up, and you show him to the room you were in before moving your stuff to someone else's room to stay with them.
Everyone meets Tighnari, who seems nervous for some reason. Thankfully, everyone was welcoming, saying he was sure to enjoy working as a forest ranger full time before they head off for their routes after you assign this to everyone.
--
"Please, he's really lost!" You ask, Cyno looking at you as you continue to beg him for the chance to let Tighnari into a botany course despite having no prior qualifications. "I think he's gonna be a good match for the course!"
"And how can you be so certain of this?" Cyno asks, not convinced. "Let's say he gets too attached to the world he isn't used to, as long as he wasn't lying. What happens if he wakes up back in his own world, only to miss the feeling of this one?"
"I'm sure he could adapt! He's adapted well to this one, and there's no harm in letting him in the course. Give him a shot, and if he isn't good enough then I'm fine with just taking him in as a forest ranger." You continue, Cyno closing his eyes. He knew you only spoke like this when your mind could not be changed, no matter how long the conversation lasted
"...Fine." Cyno finally lets out.
--
You work with Tighnari, and over time he gets adept with a bow. So, you decide to test him on his accuracy. To your relief, it appears he seemed to pick it up rather well, and you don't fully believe him when he claims he never used a bow before.
Turns out he was really good with his course work as well. You saw him work with his books often, even assisting other people with their own courses and keeping on top of his coursework.
The forest rangers really liked his company, and over time they grew more confident with their compliments to him.
"You're so good with that bow!"
"It's admirable how quickly you've been able to pick up these skills."
"Your medicine is better than what the head ranger does! Oh, no offence, _!"
"If _ isn't careful, you're gonna be taking the leadership role here!"
At first, you enjoyed seeing him gain confidence with these comments, but some of them really stung. You knew that while you were liked, people deemed Tighnari to be objectively better for the role of head ranger. He was doing really well with his studies, he was able to help people and keep his grades up, and on top of that he still had his spare time. You barely were able to keep up with all the withering zones, every time you turned your back one would materialise and make itself known to another ranger, and you'd have to take it on.
That was until Tighnari proved he was better with clearing these withering zones than you.
It felt like he was trying to make you feel awful for your lack of competency in your work, but he was incredibly friendly. You knew he was only trying to help, and that's what kept you from just giving up and giving him the position. So, you keep reminding yourself that these pointers you've been giving to Tighnari have helped him, and you were the one who got him onto that course.
--
Cyno sends you a letter, stating it was urgent. When you let everyone know you had to visit someone, you see them brush it off before they turn back to Tighnari. You don't spare a second glance, heading off as you hear someone talk about a dendro vision. As much as you wanted to talk, when Cyno required you it was never ideal.
--
Cyno looks particularly unnerved as he gazes at this portal in front of him. Turning, he spots you, and he waves you over.
"This is what I was warning you about." He explains. "This is Tighnaris world. I would have sent you with Tighnari himself, however that won't be ide." He explains, sighing out.
"Huh? But why is that a problem?" You ask, tilting your head.
"Since Tighnari obtained a vision, sending him back to his world would be less than ideal." Cyno states. "We need to send someone in his place. Or else, this portal won't go. He continues, looking over at you.
The look in his eyes is all you need to know.
"Oh man..." You huff out. "I have to go, don't I?"
Cynos eyes widen, shaking his head.
"Not necessarily, all we need is a non vision wielder." He begins. "We could send one of-"
"I'll go." You nod, Cyno opening his mouth as he tries to speak. "I was the one that worked so hard to keep him here, so I see it as fair."
You were also very insecure over Tighnari being classed as better than you in every way, but you don't dare tell Cyno this.
"...I'll miss you, you know." Cyno admits, a sad smile as he realises you were going to go even if he advocated against this. "Is there any way I can convince you-"
You shake your head, stopping Cyno.
"The feeling is returned." You admit.
Before you walk through the portal, taking Tighnaris place in his world, you give your best friend one long hug.

Zoé runs up the spiral staircase and skids to a stop outside the Césaire apartment. Nino opens the door at the first sound of the doorbell. "Comrade Moutarde de Dijon!" he exclaims. "Good to see you—have you heard from Comrades Mayo, Bechamel, or Sweet and Sour?"
"Comrade Bechamel is going to strangle me enough already without inviting Comrade Sweet and Sour," Alya calls from the living room, where she, Max, Kim, Rose, Juleka, Ivan, and Mylène are gathered around the television, currently playing the latest advertisement for Alliance rings. At second glance, Zoé does recognize the person hovering awkwardly near the dining table: XY Roth.
"I may mean that literally," Alya adds. "She might wring my neck with her bare hands."
"…What's wrong? Should we be heading for the TV station?"
Alya's group text didn't say. All Zoé knows is it's a problem for the Resistance.

"Don't be bemused, it's just the news! Hi, I'm Nadja Chamack, and this is Side by Side. Today, I'm joined by our own Ladybug!"
"Lady Noire," she corrects Nadja, who is far too familiar with interviewing akumas to flinch. Well. To flinch much.
"…This is the third time you two have swapped Miraculouses, I believe?"
Lady Noire nods, a stiff, sharp motion. "The question you should be asking is, where is my partner?"
Nadja gulps. "Yes. Where is your partner?"
"The same place as Prince Charming."
It's a Tsurugi brand phone, from the sound it makes when turning on. Lady Noire blows on the screen, angled so only she can see the display, and zips her knuckle tip through an unlock pattern. "No missed calls," she tells the Side by Side camera. "A couple of text messages from friends, but not one from family. Most of them may be asleep at this time of day. Monarque might be too busy trying to magic his hand back on to pay attention when I'm talking about his son."
Silence rings through the room, through the city, as piercing as her earlier sobs.
"I will be more generous to Monarque than he has been to my partner and me," Lady Noire says, her voice shaking with rage. "You have until midnight to contact me to arrange the handover of every Miraculous you have. Every note and every artifact that you have even the slightest inkling might be of interest to me or my team. Every name you know of someone else who has chosen to help Monarque, or who has known his secret identity and kept silent. If I have any reason to believe that you are withholding something, if I have any reason to believe that you are trying to escape, you will not like what happens to Monarque's son."
Nadja shudders. Breathes. Asks, "What happens after midnight?"
"At midnight," says Lady Noire, "I name Monarque on air."
---
"I have no proof that will satisfy a court of law," Lady Noire tells Mme Chamack, Paris, the world. "But the man he is in the rest of his life does have a… professional reputation to protect. Perhaps I am framing the man I will name. Why would I do that? Paris wonders. What skeletons might they find in his closets, if they try to figure out what this man has done?"
Her arms are wrapped around the bundle of fabric she brought. Possibly only the fact that her claws can't pierce her armor is keeping her forearm from bleeding.
A ringtone. Mylène reaches for her phone, only to stop when Lady Noire thumbs the phone she's holding, silencing the sound.
"Come on, dude, pick up," mutters Nino into his Alliance ring.
The ringtone again. This time Lady Noire answers. Someone turns up the TV volume, but it doesn't pick up the phone call audio.
"You must be Mayura!" Lady Noire says, cheerfulness ringing painfully false. "It's good to know you're alive. Chat Noir was afraid something had happened to you after we stopped seeing you around—you know him, such a bleeding heart."
She taps something. "—do with him?" snarls the caller on speakerphone.
Nino growls, "Mayura."
"What do you think I did with him?" Lady Noire shouts. "I told Monarque I'd make him regret this. He took my partner away from me!"
"Where is my son?" Mayura demands.
Lady Noire blinks twice, opens her mouth, and closes it again. Then shakes herself and drags in a breath. "You know him," she says, voice softer now but no less terrifying. "If I told him he needed to jump off a bridge to help stop Monarque, do you truly believe he'd hesitate?"
"She's bluffing!" shouts Monarque. "My son, come home at once, do—"
A strangled sound. "She may be bluffing," Mayura says. "I'm not. Nooroo, wings rise!"
"I thought so," Lady Noire says. To the TV crew, she adds, "Cut to commercial."
Adrien's latest perfume ad plays.
Mylène is the first to speak. "You don't…really think Ladybug would hurt someone, just because he's Monarque's kid. …Do we?"
"I think," says Alya, typing furiously with one hand shielding her Alliance projection from view, "Monarque thought that if something happened to Chat Noir, Ladybug would lose control. Marinette, pick up your fucking phone."
---
The original guest on tonight's Side by Side is back on the sofa, almost managing to act as though whatever movie she's starring in is still the headliner of the episode. Or so Nathaniel says. Kagami is mostly not paying attention to anything but which way to the bakery and how fast to jog so she doesn't leave him, Marc, and Sabrina behind. A beep signals a new notification on her Alliance: an email from Nathalie Sancoeur, which can wait until Kagami has spoken to Marinette. She thinks highly enough of Chat Noir that tonight must be frightening.
"She's out with Adrien," Cheng-san tells them. "Is it something I can help with?"
"Maybe?" Marc glances at Nathaniel's Alliance projection and winces. "If she's with Adrien, she's probably okay but she won't be coming with us. So the next part of our plan is to head to Tour TVi with paint guns, in case Lady Noire needs backup—"
A car turns the corner. Adrien's car, specifically. Or not Adrien's, of course. Kagami starts toward it; Adrien's bodyguard gets out, alone. Kagami catches a glimpse of the interior: no people, only suitcases and messenger bags and reused grocery boxes.
Cheng-san hurries outside. "You're not with them?" she asks.
Adrien's bodyguard hands Cheng-san a locked tablet and holds out an unlocked phone. " 'Sign here to verify receipt of these documents'," his Alliance's digital Kagami doll reads aloud. " 'Review these documents at your leisure. If neither of you sign these documents, nothing will change. I believe it is in Adrien's best interests if you both sign; if either of you do, they will go into effect at the time of receipt.' "
Cheng-san narrows her eyes. "Is it in Marinette's best interest? Does your idea of Adrien's best interest agree with Adrien's idea of Adrien's best interest?"
Adrien's bodyguard signs the phone with a swipe of his own fingertip, locks it, and gives it to Cheng-san.
"This had better not be a trick!" shouts Cheng-san at the departing car.

"Sorry to interrupt," Ladybug says, reentering the camera's field of view entirely unapologetically. (It is Ladybug, now with the blue blanket draped over her shoulders like a cape; while out of sight, it seems, she switched back. There's going to be an akuma at the studio any moment now, and Nadja is very glad she called Lila and spoke to Manon while Ladybug and Mayura were negotiating terms.) Ladybug holds up Monarque's son's phone. "Mayura will be arriving momentarily, with a few people whose names and faces you'd love to be the first to publish. We're waiting on a signal from a third party before we reveal those—Monarque's son is not the only one in danger, and we're making sure the others are safe—"
Half the studio lights go out. The starlet Nadja is in theory interviewing bolts for cover. Nadja scurries over to one of the cameras, ready to flip to breaking-news-reporter-on-the-scene mode.
The other camera operator swivels that camera toward the opening door. Only two of the eight people who enter have any identifying characteristics at all: her Butterfly armor resembles a purple evening gown, and he must be the man under the Monarque mask, akumatized and vaguely familiar. The other six are different sizes of blur, with a superficial resemblance to Oblivio; two flicker between blue and green, and four between purple and red.
"The matters you don't wish televised are being delivered to someone I know you trust," Butterfly-Mayura says, brisk and businesslike. "These two are minors. I cannot imagine Chat Noir will want their lives destroyed; I am certain my son does not. These four have known about our Miraculouses for twenty years or more; though Monarque has been threatening their children in order to keep them silent, I cannot imagine either of you or my son will think that is enough to forgive them their silence." She pauses, considering a drawstring bag in her hand. "My son's mother will not."
Ladybug exhales. "I was wondering if this was for her," she says, very soft, but registering clearly on the audio pickup nonetheless. "If she's half as much like—your son—as his father says… No, she wouldn't think her life is worth the price."
The akumatized Monarque glares sullenly.
Monarque's son's phone rings.
"Lucky Charm!" Ladybug exclaims, hurling her yo-yo into the air and catching a magazine in a red-and-black plastic sleeve. "Mode, Septem—very funny," she tells the air, unamused. The phone rings again. "Heeeey there, friend!" Ladybug answers, bright and awkward, not unlike Manon lying through her teeth. "He can't come to the phone right now, we're a little busy—"
"I bet you are—"
Alya Césaire's voice stops.
"Please do not tell me this is that signal," Alya says faintly.
Ladybug rolls up the magical copy of Mode, takes five strides, and breaks Monarque's nose.
"Oh my god Gabriel Agreste is Monarque."
Alya sounds horrified. Manon adores Adrien; Nadja doubles her hope that Ladybug is bluffing. Or that Alya is wrong.
"Ladybug, where's Adrien?"
"Heh heh heh, funny story—" Ladybug hangs up.
"Madame Chamack," calls Butterfly-Mayura, getting Nadja's attention just in time for Nadja to catch the drawstring bag. "One for each of these seven; break it to remove the mask. Perhaps wait until Ladybug and Chat Noir have left?"
Nadja swallows and nods.
The purple butterfly slides out of the akumatized Monarque's visor and flickers to white. Violet-black magic bubbles over him, leaving a seventh blob, blood-red.
"Miraculous Ladybug!"
She whisks the blanket-cape off her shoulders to hide the person her magic brings her. He takes it as an attack—of course he does, the last thing Chat Noir remembers must be fighting for his life—
"Stop thrashing or I'll tell your girlfriend you want to PvP her in Ultimate Mecha Strike!" Ladybug hisses. "Twenty-five thousand nine hundred and thirteen to eleven is clearly not thrashed enough!"
The boy under the blanket goes statue-still.
"What did you just say?" asks Chat Noir.
"I said put your mask back on, kitty."
"That's what I thought I heard," Chat Noir mutters. (From the look of the audio meters, the audience didn't catch that.) One pale hand emerges from the blanket; Ladybug slaps something into his palm; with a flash of green light, Chat Noir reappears in living color.
Ladybug grabs him by the jingle bell and drags him down into a gasping, sobbing kiss.
"—My lady, I have a girlfriend," Chat Noir reminds her the moment he breaks free. "I will be telling her someone kissed me—" He stops, taking in the rest of the room. "What are you calling yourself now, Mayura, la Papillon Reine?"
"I believe I'm calling myself a poor excuse for a second mother," Mayura answers. "Ladybug. Our agreement."
"I believe I said it's his decision whether he even ever wants to think of you again," Ladybug retorts. To Chat Noir she says, "Or of me. I did kind of just convince all of Paris I did the same thing to Monarque's son that Monarque did to you. I've got six Miraculouses and two Alliances in my pocket, Carapace just got delivered a bunch of interesting things including at least seven more Miraculouses, I don't think either of those green blobs is Argos so it's probably only seven, the Ladyblogger has all sorts of fascinating documents to dig through, and Nathalie Sancoeur will be handing over the Butterfly Miraculous any moment now."
That all came out in one breath.
"…What," says Chat Noir.
Ladybug tilts forward and faceplants into Chat Noir's chest, mumbling something. He softens, holding her close.
Then stiffens up again. "Nathalie Sancoeur?" He snatches the yo-yo from Ladybug's waist, captures Mayura—she makes no effort to resist—and plucks the Butterfly brooch from her bodice.
Nadja wouldn't necessarily recognize Nathalie Sancoeur if she passed her on the street. Neither, most likely, would anyone in the room, and if Nadja could get her breaking-news-reporter hat on instead of watching in stunned silence like the rest of the world—
Chat Noir takes a deep breath, clutching Ladybug like a lifeline. "Ah," he says, retracting the yo-yo. "Gabriel Agreste isn't planning on sending Adrien to London because he thinks that will keep him safe from the terrible influence of friends Gabriel didn't pick out for him and a girlfriend Gabriel can't intimidate. Though I'm sure he wanted Adrien to keep thinking that. It's because Adrien only has two living adult relatives, one lives in London, and the other committed suicide back in September and he expects it to finish killing him soon."
One of the red-violet blobs shakes. Chat Noir glares at his own Miraculous. Nadja has a sudden horrible suspicion that Chat Noir spent the months of Monarque's silence believing he'd killed a man.
"I would have handed that over myself," Nathalie Sancoeur says. "And this, to Adrien, so I know he's alive."
'This' appears to be the wedding ring on her own hand.
"Ladybug keeps her promises," Chat Noir tells her.
Sancoeur slumps and nods. "Tell Adrien I'm sorry I lied. This is what killed Emilie. And for what little it's worth, Emilie wanted none of this. Tell him the unlock PIN on her phone is the year she first heard her favorite song. When he watches her videos, he should have Marinette with him." She removes the ring. "When you give Adrien this—" She hands it to Chat Noir. "—tell him he is never to let anyone but himself touch either half of his amok."
Ladybug whirls on her. "Excuse me?" she and Chat Noir demand in unison.
"—You didn't know." She folds to the floor. "You didn't—how did you get Adrien's cooperation?"
"You know he threw himself off a skyscraper for me and you're still asking that?"
If Nadja can see Ladybug's about to fall to pieces…
"So did any part of your brilliant bluff involve Marinette thinking her boy-toy died?" Chat Noir asks, steering Ladybug out of the studio. Nadja doesn't catch her answer; Chat Noir sighs. "Well, we had a good run, my lady. I promise I'll take good care of the miracle box after she ends you."
The studio door slams shut behind them.
Nadja stares at the drawstring bag in her hand. It contains seven marbles, each colored to match one of the blobs and labeled with initials. CB and LR on the blue-green, GA on the deep red, and TT, AG, AB, and RR on the red-violet.
Then she remembers she's on the clock and on camera and has to figure out something to say about this.
"Don't be bemused, it's just the news!—"
---
"Marinette helped," Ladybug murmurs. Chat Noir's warmth is the only thing that feels real right now. "It turns out she's really easily bribed, in the right circumstances. All I owe her is your life."
"She is plotting your doom as we speak."
"She is trying to figure out how to get the love of her life to stop talking and start kissing. It will probably help if we catch Argos, since apparently it's possible for a senti not to know it, and if your cousin really wanted to help you—!"
Chat Noir stops on the nearest rooftop to set her on her feet and stare at her. Tonight feels like it should be a full moon, but there's a slim crescent nearing the western horizon, with a breeze flicking at her bangs and a few bold stars visible above the city lights.
"But maybe I am just going to sleep by myself and probably have nightmares about half your father's arm falling off when I grabbed him. I don't know. That's up to you, probably. Did you know his Alliance assistant looks just like your mother?"
"Marinette is with her boyfriend right now," Chat Noir says slowly.
"And my partner is with me. Keep up."
Chat Noir shakes his head and sweeps her back up in a princess carry, leaping to the next roof and the next. "Years I was trying to catch your attention. Years, Ladybug, and all I ever had to do was look behind me."
"I love you too."
Chat Noir misses a stick-hold and narrowly avoids smashing them both into a wall.
---
Zoé's mother is being arrested. For accessory before and after the fact to Monarque's hundred-mile list of magical terrorist acts.
She leaps up when Alya's apartment doorbell rings anyway. Zoé and XY are the only people here not enthusiastically digging through the small mountain Adrien's bodyguard delivered. Even Rose and Juleka are alternating between sitting with Zoé and trying to smash open the glass bubbles with their kwamis inside.
It's Adrien, with a sleeping Marinette draped over his back. "Hey," he says, sheepish. "Can we kick Alya out of her bedroom for a few hours? Marinette needs a catnap and I don't think she's planning to let me go, uh, possibly ever."
Behind Zoé, all sound halts.
In the exact same tone of stunned and dazed by the now obvious as when she realized who Monarque is, and with exactly as much explanation, Alya says, "Oh my god it genuinely is a funny story."

Memories (Collei Angst)
TW: Panic Attack (I also just posted this on Ao3, Author: SoManyPassions, the name of the fic is the same, go check it out there if you want!) ---- Khajeh of the Sumeru Akademiya tries to get Collei to convince Tighnari to join the Akademiya by promising her things that can't happen…and exploiting her weaknesses. ---- "Collei, I will be right over here if you need me, I'll just be talking to some youngsters who want join my class. If anything happens, I give you full permission to pull out your bow, and I will deal with any consequences." Faruzan said, letting out a small laugh.
Collei laughed a bit with her but didn't know if she was being fully serious or not.
"O-oh, alright!" She said, staying where she was.
After a bit, she got tired and decided to sit on a bench across the way.
She pulled out Culien-Anbar and held it for a bit before she heard footsteps nearing.
She looked up and three people that dressed as though they were staff within the Akademiya were standing in front of her.
"Oh, hello sirs! Do you need something?" She asked while standing and putting Culien-Anbar away.
"We do, we do. Sorry if we have disturbed you dear." The first man said, "I am Khajeh and these are my associates, Ghulam and Saheem. We were wondering…are you a mutual of Forest Watcher Tighnari? We have noticed by your outfit you very well may be a Forest Dweller."
"Oh! Yes, I am! Um, how do you know my Master?" She asked.
"We have spoken with him before as his Master is an important part of the Akademiya." Ghulam told her.
"Oh, alright! What can I help you with?" She asked, wondering if maybe Tighnari might've gotten in trouble with the Akademiya.
"Well, as you know, Tighnari is a very smart individual, learning from one of our best. We have asked before on his stance of joining the Akademiya and were wondering if we may have some of your assistance." Khajeh asked.
"My assistance? What can I do?" She wondered.
"Well, as you know, there are many places that are being affected by The Withering. We were thinking that maybe with his expertise in defending against it, we might be able to come up with a way to permanently stop it." Saheem explained.
"That…does sound good!" Collei said.
"Yes, yes, but there is something else." Khajeh said, crouching down to her level.
"Hm?" She questioned.
"Well, you know that you master has very interesting and diverse knowledge in the arts of medicine…" He started, and slowly reached for her hand.
She was scared, but didn't pull away.
"With his expansive knowledge of medical practices and having them combine with those in the Akademiya, we might be able to do…great things…"
As he said the last part, his hand brushed up her sleeve slightly, revealing her Eleazar.
As he did that, she pulled her arm away in fear.
She held it tightly with her other arm, as if it had been hurt.
"We will give you time to think of how to persuade him, but remember, many people can be helped if you do this. Even yourself. You can stop the spread of this horrible disease, stop The Withering. Stop him." He finished with a grin on his face as he walked away.
She stood there a moment longer before sitting back down on the bench.
She had been promised that before…but was it really worth it?
Old memories started to plague her mind again before they were stopped by a voice.
"Collei~!" She heard Madam Faruzan call for her.
She looked up and saw her walking towards her with a smile on her face.
"Whats um- whats got you so happy?" She asked, having a bit of trouble coming back to reality.
"I just got three more students to transfer to my classes!" She smiled.
"That's nice…" Collei said, but her voice was ever so slightly devoid of emotion.
"Is everything alright my dear?" Faruzan asked, crouching to her level.
"Y-yeah I'm alright…could we get going back to Gandharva Ville?" She asked.
"Of course." Faruzan smiled softly and led the way.
Once they had gotten to the City's edge, they said goodbye to each other and parted ways.
Collei made the long trek back to the village with millions of thoughts running though her head.
Should I tell him about it?
If so, then what am I going to do when he leaves?
I mean, hes left before on short expeditions of the forest…
But…the Forest Rangers can't work long without him.
And if not, then what about The Withering? And…my Eleazar?
I mean, the man said I had chance to save so many more people from it. And The Withering. And him.
So why shouldn't I?
But what if I'm just getting my hopes up about nothing? What is there truly is no hope?
That will just lead to…to more children getting taken…and…
She couldn't bring herself to think about it anymore.
Right on time though, as she then arrived back in Gandharva Ville.
She made her walk back to Tighnaris hut and met him right outside where he was making dinner.
"Ah, Collei, welcome back. How was your time with Faruzan today? Did you do anything interesting?" He asked.
"Hi Master Tighnari. Um- i-it was nice… I suppose.. I didn't really do anything interesting…" She said, her mind till muddled with memories.
"Are you alright?" He asked, looking back at her.
He then noticed how she was still holding her arm.
"Did something happen?" His voice sounded slightly more concerned than it was previously.
"Oh- Y-yeah I'm alright!" She said, smiling the best she could.
"Alright…well, if you have anything you want to talk about, I'm here to listen." He said, turning back to finish cooking.
Collei stood there a moment longer, then went in to Tighnaris hut and sat on his bed.
She continued to think of Khajehs proposal. It was such a big promise. But she couldn't just…not tell Tighnari…right? She could help save so many people…
She couldn't stop thinking about it. No matter what. And she didn't know what to do.
And the more she thought, the worse the memories got.
She heard his voice and felt like she was tied down again, as if another experiment was about to be conducted.
It was getting harder and harder for her to breathe-
why can't I breathe? Please- let me breathe-
It was all getting too much- she couldn't breathe, she felt like she was tied down, she swore she heard his voice somewhere in the mix.
Before she could process all of it, it was happening again.
What had Tighnari called these? Panic attacks?
"They usually happen when you are experiencing a relapse of memories of something traumatic. Well, that's your case specifically. Your heart will feel like its beating out of your chest and your breathing will get faster because your brain is convinced you aren't receiving enough air. You'll start shaking and in in your case, which it appears to be quite severe, you'll see visions or hallucinations, sometimes of people, but also the place around you might change. It's important that if you are experiencing one and I'm not around, to try to find something to divert your attention and start doing our breathing practices. If I am around, no matter what I'm doing, please come to me, and we can work it out together. You don't deserve to go though these things alone, albeit at all."
She remembered him telling her that the first time she had a panic attack in front of him. She didn't know what it was and was terrified. Since then, shes had plenty more and Tighnari was almost always there. Sometimes she was with Cyno who also helped her.
But what could she do now? She felt like the walls were closing in on her and she had no chance of escaping it.
She tried to steady her breathing, she knew she did. She had done it so many times before, but it wasn't working now.
Why isn't this helping!?
She felt the tears start to travel down her face alarmingly fast. When did she start crying?
It was all too much- way too much.
Her mind was filled with Khajehs proposal and all its pro's and con's, how she would bring it up to Tighnari, how to stop this panic attack and all the memories that were coming back.
She just wanted it all to stop- why wouldn't it stop?
She then saw what appeared to be a figure walking into where-…wherever she was.
She flinched and huddled backwards, feeling the need to get away.
"Collei?" The voice yelled, but it sounded far away.
"Collei! Hey, hey, hey, I'm right here, I'm right here- Collei?" It said, sounding scared.
Somehow, a face appeared in front of her blurred vision. They appeared to be saying more, but she didn't know what it was now.
"N-no no no- I- I can't let it happen anymore-" She muttered, thinking of all the other kids.
She couldn't remember any of their names, but she knew them. All the outcast children that would never receive the gods favor. All the children that didn't make it. All the kids who had died by their hands. By his hands. All the poor, poor children that got fates worse than death. Like herself.
She didn't want that to happen again. She never wanted that to happen in the first place. And she had a chance to stop it. Right?
"They didn't deserve that- I-I didn't deserve that-" She muttered more.
She saw the face in front of her change. It wasn't kind and warm anymore. It was cold and harsh.
He was angry. Why was he angry? What did you do this time?
He glared right through his mask.
Wait…mask?
Tighnari doesn't wear a mask.
no- no no no no- he isn't here- this isn't real- this cant be real.
"Collei, if you can hear me, I'm letting you know, I'm going to hold your hand."
His voice spoke through whatever things she was hearing now.
So, when she felt it, she didn't flinch.
"Good, good, you're doing good." He spoke again.
His face started to fade out, leaving her with her Masters worried eyes staring right at her.
She moved her mouth, trying to speak, but the words weren't there.
Her eyes darted all over.
She knew where she was now. She wasn't there. She was in Tighnaris hut. She was safe and far, far away from him.
"Can you tell me where you are?" He asked, his voice much clearer.
She tried to speak more, but it was still hard.
"H-hut…" She said.
"That's good. Very good. I want you to try to breath with me. Okay?" He said, still holding her hand.
"Mhm." She agreed.
They started to do the breathing practices and soon Collei was aware of her surroundings again.
"How are you feeling?" He asked her, still holding her hand to let her know this was real.
"…Tired…honestly…" She said, her voice meek and quiet.
"That's understandable. Would you like to talk about what may have caused this?" He asked her.
She curled up again, bringing her knees to her chest.
"Y-yeah…" She whispered.
Tighnari pulled his chair from his desk over and sat in front of her, ready to listen. He even held her hand again for more comfort.
"When I was in the city today with Madam Faruzan, she started talking to some students of the Akademiya that wanted to join her course, so I sat over on a bench and waited for them to finish talking…" She started, taking slow, deep breaths.
"While I was waiting, these three men walked over…They were a-a part of the Akademiya…I think?…I think one of their names was Khajeh…but I might be misremembering…" She continued, only to see Tighnaris face grow colder…had something she said upset him?
He didn't say anything…maybe he wanted her to continue? So she did.
"They first asked if I knew you…and introduced themselves… They said they knew you were really smart and stuff…" She smiled a bit, making quick eye contact with him.
She was quiet, scared to say what had happened next.
"Khajeh…he told me that if I…if I could get you…to um….join the Akademiya…then…" She reached and felt her forearm with her unoccupied hand.
"M-maybe there could be a way to stop The Withering…o-or…the um…Eleazar…He told me that I had a chance to make it go away, to help stop it….t-to um…to help…stop him…" She said, now on the verge of tears again.
She was scared still. He hadn't said anything.
"Are you…mad at me?" She asked, as he let go of her hand.
"No, I'm not mad at you. At all." He said, taking a deep breath.
"I'm just…I'm so sorry that he said that to you. And that you had to deal with all of that pressure… I know its upsetting and that you want there to be a cure, but even the greatest alchemists of Teyvat haven't even come close. I wouldn't be able to do anything." He said solemnly.
"I know…" She muttered, "But…as long as its a thing…" She continued but was stopped.
"I know, I know…but you also know that a vile being like him will do everything it takes for him to continue his research. Curing Eleazar won't stop him." Tighnari admitted.
"…I know…I just wanted to feel…I don't know…like I might be doing something right in my life…" She muttered.
She hoped he hadn't heard her. But she knew he did.
"Saving people isn't your job, Collei. Your job is to live your life the way you want to. Well, within moral boundaries I suppose. But its not your job to save the world. You put so much pressure on yourself…I want you to know that its okay to want to focus on yourself. Because you are important. You have worth, and are worth it to me." He said, his voice soft.
The second round of tears had started as he spoke.
His words were warm and loving. He spoke like he cared because he does.
"I love you Tighnari…" She whispered.
"I love you too Collei." He said back.
After a while, Collei had started to drift off to sleep, and she heard as he stood up and his footsteps faded away.
Later that night, she awoke to the sound of two people talking.
Master Tighnari and Master Cyno?
"But she is alright now, correct?" Cyno asked.
"Yes, she fell asleep a while ago." Tighnari answered.
"And there is still something else you want to tell me, right?" He asked.
"You could tell? …Yes." Tighnari went on and explained the best he could about what happened.
"…That b-" Cyno was about to say, but Tighnari cut him off, shushing him.
Collei felt as though he might've pointed to her as he did.
"Yes, I agree. I'm planning on going into the City tomorrow to speak to them about their utterly foolish and despicable behavior. How they practically manipulated her by guilt? How they targeted her deep rooted trauma?!" He sighed, taking a deep voice.
Collei took a shaky breath. She had no idea he was this worked up. She should've assumed he was being soft with her as to not scare her.
"I can go with you. They'll be more likely to not mess with you or her again." Cyno said.
"I would try to talk you out of it, but that would be useless, wouldn't it?"He sighed. "Alright."
"Good. Amir will watch her?" Cyno asked.
"That is correct…" Tighnari answered.
Their voices then started to fade out as Collei drifted back to sleep. - With Cyno and Tighnari the next day -
The two men walked swiftly towards the Akademiya and made their way inside.
Cyno had requested a meeting with the three men earlier that morning and was glad they delivered.
As Tighnari got to the meeting room, just seeing the three men made him angry.
"Hello Sirs, what a pleasure to see you both!" Khajeh smiled.
"Take a seat, will you?" He said, his associates and himself already seated.
They obliged, meeting the eyes of Khajeh with much disdain.
"I'm glad you could make it Tighnari! Now-" He started to speak, his smile being wiped off his face as he was interrupted.
"Stop talking." Cyno commanded. "I was the one who called this meeting. Not you. Tighnari?" He said, turning the attention to him.
"I was informed by my daughter that you approached her yesterday. You tried to get her to get me to join the Akademiya because your own efforts were failing." He sneered.
Immediately, the mens' faces went white.
"O-oh no- no no no- That certainly wasn't our intention sir- we just-" Ghulam stuttered out some sort of response that might help them.
"Oh really? So you didn't try and guilt her with the effects of The Withering? Or her Eleazar? Oh and you most certainly didn't target her trauma with a mention of a certain Fatui Harbinger, right?" He said, his voice sharp and getting louder.
He had stood, towering over the three men as they seemingly sunk into their seats.
"S-sir we-" Saheem tried to speak but Tighnari wasn't done.
"I'm.not.done." Tighnari seemingly growled.
The men stayed quiet.
"You deliberately tried to use a child for your schemes because you felt you couldn't do it yourself. How disgusting do you think that sounds? Probably not that bad, right? Well how about the fact that you caused her to have a panic attack because you had guilted her to the point of a breakdown. Oh and using her own experiences against her!? I cant even begin to describe how truly awful you three are and I most certainly don't want to know what compelled you to think any of that was a good idea."
"So, I hope you thought it was worth it, because if you didn't ruin your chances of me joining previously, you have now. I have no interest for any work here, and if your pestering continues, I will make sure you are dealt with." He said, venom in his every word.
He took a deep breath and brushed back his raised hair.
"You will not be speaking to me or my daughter ever again. I trust that Cyno can serve as the boundary here, as he is also a part of the Akademiya?" Tighnari looked to him.
"Of course dear." He said, scowling at the men.
"O-of course! We are ever so sorry." Khajeh spoke, probably shaking in fear as he stuttered.
"Good. You should feel lucky that Cyno didn't leave this room the moment the meeting started." Tighnari spat, then taking his leave.
Cyno stayed in there a bit longer as Tighnari took his moment alone to calm down.
Soon, Cyno walked out and walked over to him.
"Are you doing alright?" Cyno asked, taking his husbands hand.
"I'm…fine…" He said, sighing. "I feel like I should've said more, or done more to defend her." He admitted.
"Its alright. I'm glad you stopped where you did because you might've actually hurt one of them if you hadn't." Cyno let out a small laugh.
"Alright…" Tighnari said, knowing he was probably right.
"Plus I took care of telling them what would happen to them in the Akademiya's point of view if anything else happened." Cyno said.
"Well thank you." Tighnari held his hand a bit tighter.
"Of course." Cyno said, doing the same.
"I should start heading back to Gandharva Ville now. Will you be joining?" Tighnari asked.
Cyno thought for a moment before replying, "Sure."
With that, they made their way back to Gandharva Ville together, reaching there just before sunset.
"Ah, Master Tighnari! Oh! Master Cyno!" Collei said, racing towards them.
"Hello Collei, it has been quite a bit, how are you?" Cyno asked as Tighnari went to speak with Amir.
"I'm doing great! I assume Master Tighnari told you?" Collei asked timidly, referring to last night.
"Yes, yes. I'm sorry that happened and I could not be here." He apologized. "But I think you'll be happy to know it was taken care of on my side." He told her.
"Oh, alright… Um, Amir made dinner, do you want some?" Collei asked, grabbing his hand and leading him towards where Tighnari and Amir were speaking.
"Sure." He smiled at her, happy to see that she was alright now.
That night was calm. The three of them spoke and ate together, and Collei felt so glad to have her dads there with her. ----

That fateful day, you met up with him at the café to talk. He sat across you and held your hand.
“What is it you want to talk about?” he asked.
You gulped. Deep breaths. It’s okay, he’s my boyfriend. He’ll understand.
“I went to talk with a psychiatrist,” you began. “She said I have clinical depression.”
“Ah,” he sighed.
He lowered his gaze. You could swear you heard him whisper, perfect timing.
He turned to look back at you with a sickeningly sweet smile as he withdrew his hand from yours.
“Then, I’m ending this. Us, I mean.”
Your body went numb. “What?”
“Yes, well. I’ve long since suspected something like that was going on.”
You could almost hear the cracking sound of your heart breaking.
“And I am not dealing with it.”
Crash.
“I intend to end this sooner or later anyway.”
Burn.
You asked him why. “Why are you doing this?” “Did I do something wrong?” “Can I salvage this?” Just please, please don’t leave me—
You asked him even though you already knew the answer. He’s grown sick of me.
In the end, he left you with lots of excuses but never an apology.
You figured it was because you deserved nothing of the sort.
For no one owes the songless bird a chance to sing.
You woke up to someone knocking on the door. A familiar voice called your name several times.
“It’s Tighnari. You haven’t gone out of your room for two days.”
A pause.
“I’m worried about you. May I come in?”
You put the blanket over your head.
“Go away, Nari.”
A sob.
“You shouldn’t talk to a piece of shit like me.”
A muffled hiss.
“You are not a piece of shit.”
Another sob.
“Then tell me, what should I call myself? I’m a defect and no one—”
A choking sound.
“No one will ever love me.”
The sound of the door opening. Footsteps approaching. A dip on the bed. The light brush of a tail on your feet and a hand on your shoulder.
“Don’t say that, please. You’re my dear friend. I love you, and nothing will ever change that. Not even your diagnosis.”
The bed sprung back up.
“I’ll help you pack your things, all right? I’m bringing you to Gandharva Ville, and I’m not taking no for an answer.”
You burst into tears again. Only the sound of your sobs and the shuffling of your clothes getting packed filled the room. Tighnari held your hand all the way to the carriage that brought you to Gandharva Ville, then shifted to patting your back along the way. A week off was the best he could help you get on such short notice—but that short week held your life together for the months ahead.
You’d been taking medication for several months. They had desirable effects, that much you didn’t deny. They fixed your sleep schedule, and the pain in your chest has numbed considerably.
But you knew that no medication could fill the emptiness in your heart.
“Why don’t you try joining a book club?” Tighnari had said. “You’ve always loved books, and the shared interests would make it easier for you to blend in.”
So here you were, in front of a house not far from the Akademiya. Some people were conversing just outside, and they invited you in when you asked about the book club.
You spotted a familiar gray head amongst the people sitting in the living room when you stepped inside.
… Alhaitham?
You felt chills all over your skin as he turned his gaze your way. Your lips parted when his eyes widened in recognition. You held your breath as he got up from his seat and walked toward you with restrained haste, a small smile forming on his lips.
“Hi,” he said.
His voice. I’ve almost forgotten his voice.
Your eyes felt hot as you held yourself back from embracing him there and then.
“Hi,” you squeaked.
You gulped down words you could never tell him. I’ve been missing you.
You clenched your fists to ground yourself. No, no. Do not even dare to hope. You will never accept me.
Your mind screamed words—words you could never let out because I am not worthy of you.
Words you could never say because you deserve the best, not a defect like me.
Your mind went blank, your breath hitched, because I’ve been missing you for so long, and I want your arms to wrap around me, for you to say you’ve been missing me too.
But you’re not mine, and you will never be.
Your eyes grew hotter, but you forced your lips to form a smile anyway.
“Long time no see,” your voice said.
“So that’s… yeah. That’s my update.”
A shiver rippled through every inch of your skin as Alhaitham took your hand into his and squeezed. His usually-sharp eyes looked deep into yours with a mellow gaze.
“I’m sorry you had to go through that.” He squeezed your hand harder. “I should’ve—”
He shook his head.
“No. Never mind,” he said. He gave you a small smile as his fingers fiddled with yours, eliciting a blush from you. “Would you like me to slowly end his career or something?”
You grinned. You are such a softie. “No need,” you said. Thank you. “He’s not worth it.”
He hummed. “If you say so.”
You couldn’t help but notice that he always had his hands on you for the rest of the book club meet-up.
His soft, warm lips. The same lips you’d been daydreaming of for years, the same lips you’d kissed a thousand times in your mind, were pressing gently against your own lips, against you.
“I love you,” he declared softly, a tender smile on his lips. It’s that smile. “I’ve been in love with you since we were classmates.”
You felt tears start welling up in your eyes. “That long? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“You already had a boyfriend when I realized my feelings for you. I’m sorry. I should’ve investigated more instead of just giving up and staying away.”
You felt your chest clenching. No, don’t be sorry. You didn’t wrong me.
You leaned forward to place a light kiss on his lips. If this is a dream, I hope it never ends. He pulled back in surprise.
You chuckled at his reaction. “It’s okay. Thank you.”
You let your tears roll down your cheeks as he gathered you into his arms, pressing your temple onto his sculpted chest.
“You’re never a waste of my time. I said I love you, and I mean it.”
He placed a kiss on your lips.
“I don’t mind that you’re chubby, or rather sickly, or prone to insecurities because of an illness you never wanted.”
Another kiss. He pulled away after a while, his half-lidded verdant eyes looking straight into yours. He smiled.
“I’ll always be there for you because I love you, and that’s final.”
“You are the love of my life, and I want you by my side for the rest of my days. Will you marry me?”
You let out an unceremonious sob.
“You still need to ask? I’m already yours, forever.”
“I, Alhaitham, take you as my wife.”
“And I…” You say your name with a shaky breath. “I take you as my husband.”
You put your arms around his neck as his hands find their way to your waist, pulling your body against his. He chuckles as he dips in to kiss your lips. The sound of your heartbeat is so loud, it drowns the small crowd’s cheers and sobs.
“You are perfect, my love,” he whispers. An evergreen smile blooms on his lips. “Until death do us part—no, until the end of time, I will always, always love you, and only you.”
You pull him into another kiss, savoring his warmth like there’s no tomorrow.
“And I, you.”
A bird’s song pierces through the cool morning air.

Adjusting to life back home is hard when Clay wants to make money.
Tumblr media
"We've got Bobby, Piney, Juice and Sack opposed. Where we at with the rest?"
Jax was helping Abel with his breakfast, "Chibs knows we need this to fulfil our Irish commitment. he'll go our way, Tig, Happy and Sam too." They went back and forth about getting the other votes, if one of the fence sitters said no, they would lose.
You coming in the door from night shift pulled them away, "rough night?"
You nodded, "yep, I thinking of donating Abel's old high and some of his other stuff, where are the keys?"
Jax smiled, "junk drawer in the laundry."
You nodded, "thanks."
Just as you were wrist deep in the drawer, Clay came up behind you, "I just wanted to thank you for the other night, you helping out as much as you did, that was a class act, it really helped."
You shook your head, "that's what I do, isn't it, take care of the boring shit while you guys get all the action?"
He smiled, "I'm so happy you're joining this family. You're already a great mum, you're gonna be a great old lady."
It was clear how false he was being, "thank you, that means a lot coming for you."
He got a strange look in his eyes, "raising Jax was the best thing that ever happened to me, I love my son, as much as I loved his old man."
You felt a cold chill go down your spine, "that's such a comfort." You knew you should have kept your mouth shut, but there was no way you were going to let Clay try and scare you, at least without letting him know he failed. The clanking of a plate pulled you away, "looks like Abel wanted his breakfast on the floor this morning, I better go clean up."
You walked into the dining room to be greeted with half a bowl of cereal on the floor, "what happened?"
Jax smiled, "total accident, I went to reach for something and knocked it over."
Abel looked between you, "mummy, more."
You smiled, "what do we say when we ask for something?"
He thought for a minute, "mummy, more please."
You went to the cupboard to get him more food while Jax cleaned up, "and here I thought this raising kids thing was so hard."
You smiled, "I'm not going to dignify that statement with a response."
Jax smirked and bent down to kiss you, "I love you."
"I love you too."
Gemma arrived later to help out, "shouldn't you be in bed?"
You shrugged, "it's harder to sleep in bed alone now that Jax is home, I have the next two days off because I worked a double. I'll sleep tonight."
She nodded, "what do your doctor friends think of all this?"
"They love Jax, anyone who doesn't like him isn't my friend. We work with dead children most of the time Gemma, we're about as close as you can get with your colleagues."
She huffed, "what about your boss? He seems pretty zipped up."
You took a deep breath, "Raymond is a good man, sure he thinks Jax and I are childish in regards to some things but he likes Jax and he's really happy I've found someone."
She seemed to accept that, "I have some paper to grade, just yell if you need me."
****
"Wow, Oswald really came through with this place."
Clay nodded, "well he did say he take care of us after he won."
Jax huffed, "yeah well, we've got y/n to thank for that, she's the only reason Hale's in the clink and not turning this place into McMansion vill."
The smell of sawdust hit them as they walked in, "look at my happy little elves."
Jax looked around, "they look great, how much do they hold?"
Opie was already packing the guns, "between twelve and sixteen, weight matches the car parts. Chibs got the specs for the Irish."
"Where is he."
They cringed, "don't ask."
Tig answered anyway, much to Jax's disgust, "you don't need a colonic just eat a salad, sorry Juicy."
Juice waved his hand, "I don't know Sam, why don't you come down and try one out, you might change your mind."
"Before we clear anyone's passage, let's just get these crates built, Bobby you're with me, Wahewa."
Bobby's eyebrows furrowed, "why you need me?"
Clay's tone was dismissive, "because I you miss man."
****
"I know you didn't bring me out here for my vast knowledge of projectiles."
Clay shook his head, "I wanted to talk to you alone."
Bobby knew where this was going, "say what you wanna say Pres."
Clay's tone was short, "the beating we took over the last few years has set us way back."
Bobby did his best to stop the train but Clay wasn't listening, "how did you get the boy to sign off on this? Drugs nearly killed his kid, his old lady spent most of her life dealing with cartel carnage, you know she would have told him stories." It was Clay's turn to do his best to shut down Bobby's line of thinking.
"I tell you what Jax gets out of this, Jax wants out, he's got kid, he's got an old lady he loves, he's done."
Bobby suddenly got it, "he backs the drugs, you let him out clean?"
"Yep."
****
"Hey Gemma, I'm heading to Clear Passages, they just got my meds in."
You could hear Abel giggling, "no problem, you want me to get Abel his lunch?"
You walked into the kitchen, "it's in the fridge, he's has to say please and thank you."
She gave you a smile, "sure."
You kissed Abel on the nose before leaving, Abel waving his little hand, "bye bye mummy."
The first thing you noticed as you reached the street was the unmarked car out the front, when you walked in, Juice was waiting on the chairs, "hey Juicy, what brings you by?"
He smiled, "Chibs needed a treatment."
You shook your head, "Chibs needs to have a smoothy and a bowl of lentils."
He huffed, "you sound like your brother."
You collected what you needed and waited with Juice, Chibs coming out half an hour later looking and feeling much better, "my opinion hasn't changed, fibre fixes everything." As you came out, the cops pulled up.
"Hands on the wall."
You rolled your eyes, "we all have cards, this isn't legal."
The shove hurt, "the federal government doesn't give a shit."
They only searched Juice, then he was being dragged away in cuffs, "Juice, do not talk to anyone without your lawyer present."
You pointed to Chibs, "I'm going to make sure this doesn't get worse."
You raced off after the car and drove into the district just as they did, "Juice, don't talk."
The officer put his hand up, "you can't go in there ma'am."
You smiled, "if you don't let me in with him I will sue this department into the middle of next week, he's entitled to someone with him until his lawyer gets here because he's not under arrest is he?"
The officer went wide eyed, "this way ma'am."
Roosevelt jumped when you walked in, he did his best to hide the file in his hand but you got a good look at it, "she can't be here."
You smiled, "Juice, do you want me here?" He nodded, "I can be here, I know this is about anyway."
Roosevelt swallowed, "let her stay." You sat down next to Juice and placed your hand out for the file, "you're a pig Mr Roosevelt, down to your very core." You turned to Juice, "he can't use this against you, your birth certificate doesn't say black does it?"
Juice shook his head, "then how can they prove the truth? They can't Juice, this is because if RICO." You handed him your keys, "go and wait in the car, I'm going to have a chat with Mr Roosevelt." Roosevelt clenched his jaw but let Juice go.
"Aren't you a smart one."
You shot him a nasty smile, "Mr Potter is not to be trusted, ask him about a little girl named Elsie, he'll know what I'm talking about, and if you go near Juice again, I will dig up dirt on you and Potter and have it splashed along the New York Times the next day." Without another word, you left.
Juice was chewing on his fingernails when you got to the car. You stopped at the trunk to get your kit then climbed into the driver's seat, "you're going to do a cheek swab, them I'm going to bullshit what's in it and we're bring this to the table, they can't do anything if the Club is ready for it and no one will think twice that the DNA is real." Juice yanked the swab out of your hand.
"Now you're going to call the other and tell them you need to talk to them, all of them, before or after the vote, I don't care." He nodded, "I'm going to drop you at home, everything is going to be ok Juice, I promise, I told you I'd take this secret to the grave and I meant it."
The moment Juice was inside his house you called Vance, "I was right, they were going to use Juice's father against him, I've stopped it from happening for now but you need to tell me the moment they start looking hardrer."
"Done, will that be all?"
You huffed, "no, tell Parada that there's a RICO investigation happening. I don't want this Potter fuck to have any room to move." You called Gemma next, "something's come up, I need to stop by the lab, can you after Abel for a little while longer?"
"Sure."
****
Three hours later, everyone was sitting at the table. Bobby kept looking at Jax with a strange expression, and Jax could pinpoint why. Juice was anxious, his knee bopping under the table. You came in a pile of folders and placed them in the middle of the table. "You wanna tell us what this is about Darlin? Juice said you didn't give much room for us to say no."
You pulled a piece of paper out of your pocket, "this DNA test shows no sign of African heritage. I told you Linclon Potter was an evil man and I meant it, he's trying to use the fact that Juice doesn't know his father to get him to rat. Roosevelt showed Juice a bullshit photo and said it was his father. Your by-laws being what the what are means he would have every reason talk."
Everyone went silent, "you can't be serious."
You nodded, "sadly, Chibby, I am. I've dealt with this guy before, I'm more than willing to share my insight on how to deal with him."
Clay waved his hand, "go ahead."
"Honesty, he'll move on to the next person as soon as he can, when he does you blast whatever he's said to everyone, he's going to use lies that can't be proven as such. Go on a group call and go on and on about what he's said, you'll find any false proof that he'll have will mean nothing."
Kip got up and got you a chair so you could sit next to Jax who put a calming hand on your arm, "how do you know this guy? Sam gave us a pretty short version."
You took a deep breath, "I was writing a paper about men who attended strip clubs on a regular basis, this strip club was a front to sex trafficking."
His hand squeezed you a little tighter, "I knew what Potter was pretty fast, he just didn't fit. I tried to warn him that if he fucked up, girls would die and he didn't listen. The night they raided, they didn't wait for anyone to leave, bullets started flying, and a young girl, Elise, got shot in the spine. I managed to drag her away from the shooting, but she was paralyzed from the waist down. The only reason she and the other women were given W visas is that I told him I would go public."
Jax huffed, "wow, this guy really does suck."
You nodded, "I've left his case files that I can access in the folders, go through them when you have the time. I'll leave you to your vote." You turned to Clay, "if I ever see you lay hands on Gemma or another woman again, I'll break your hand, I don't care who you are." Jax's eyes went wide and he glared at his stepfather as you walked out.
You were standing with Gemma in the office doorway when they came out, "looks like the vote passed."
She pulled you into the office and pulled something out of her pocket, "Abel found this in your drawer."
You did your best not to seem worried, "and?"
She huffed, "letters from John Teller could be very painful, could set things off with Clay again."
You nodded, "it's not my place to decide what they could be, I have no intention of showing Jax until the guns and the drugs are gone. We need to focus on keeping our families safe Gem, don't get me killed."
****
"Good morning beloved."
Jax smiled and looked up for the small book he was writing in, "morning Darlin." Jax had been spending a lot of time in Abel's room, having been very impressed with all the work that went into it while he was away.
"What are you writing?"
Jax smiled, "just jotting some things down."
You smiled back, "good for you, when are you getting back?"
Jax stood up and kissed you, "a couple of days."
He was still standing close enough that you could feel the warmth coming off him, "please be careful, RICO is still going on no matter what happened with Juice, I don't want you getting caught with a truckload of guns and coke."
He nodded, "I know, I'll be careful, I promise. You wanna tell me what that comment was the other day?"
Jax's tone was measured, "I saw Gemma confront Clay about the drugs, he shoved her into the railing, it looked nasty Jax."
His jaw clenched, "thank you, for stepping in for her. I'll keep an eye on it, tell me if you see anything else."
You nodded, "I will, but I'm not going to go back on my threat Jax, if he hurts her, I will hurt him, I don't care what the club says."
****
They met Arizona in the middle of the night at a mostly deserted gas station, "we're sorry about Little Paul, really wish we could have made the funeral." A commotion pulled their attention away, after Bobby took a baggie off the ground and let everyone know it was meth, things devolved from there.
"Ain't a risk, that's a truck full of automatic weapons dooshbag, a life sentence for everyone involved and you have us roll up on your Goddamn crank den." Tempers continued to flare but Clay pulling rank didn't help because Armando was right, it wasn't Clay's Club.
The table was no different, even after Clay threatened to pass off all the work to the Mayans in Santo Padre. "Why the hell did Reggie turn in his patch, dude has eighteen years?" Jax was distressed to know it was about Little Paul but the fact that the whole charter was behind the drugs didn't help.
"Alright bro, come on."
****
"Romeo does not seem like the kind of guy that runs late."
Jax was less worried, "relax, he'll be here."
Jax knew something was going on with the drugs, all it took was Clay asking for him to bring it up, "Little Paul would have never signed off on crank."
Chibs nodded, "and Reggie was a lifer, him walking away, doesn't make any sense."
"I know, it was a close vote, two nos easily sway it the other way."
Tig was next, "so you think someone clearing the opposition?"
Jax shrugged, "I don't know, but it's worth tracking down Reggie, asking him why he quit."
Clay nodded, "let's go find Reggie, we gotta shut this crank thing down. Send a message to the other charters that we don't deal."
"Cartel's here."
Bobby shook his head, "every business needs shipping and selling, you can't separate to two."
Clay turned in his heel, "I got a wife that says shit without saying shit, grow a sack Elvis."
"Armando right, muling and dealing same Goddamn shit."
Tig did his best to defuse the situation but not much helped, Jax leaned in close to Clay, "let's get this done."
****
Jax wasn't shocked about the tail but he wasn't happy about how Tuson handled it, nor about how Clay tried to show off. When they walked into little Paul's pet shop, they were struck by how he behaved. "What do you want?"
Jax picked up a small glass ornament and looked around, his eyes landing on an empty fish tank, "just wanna say hello man, we missed you at SAMTAZ."
Reggie flashed his arms, "I'm out, good standing, ink's all black."
When Reggie didn't budge, Jax threw the glass at the fish tank and water went everywhere but after Reggie went for a gun and Chibs put his own against Reggie's skull, he talked. Not only were there serious problems between members but Reggie was being blackmailed and Little Paul was clearly killed by Huff.
Before they could talk more, they were called away to meet with the Cartel.
****
"Hey Piney, Travis said he let you in while I was in a meeting. What brings you by?"
He smiled, "you remember those questions you were asking me a few months back about John, then you said you read something?"
You nodded, "yeah but you shut that down faster than I could get the words out. Why do you want to know now?"
"The Club is heading into trouble waters, and maybe, something of whatever you read helps me to keep the boat from, you know, rocking too much."
You shrugged, "Piney, we both know where this leads. You and I both know John wanted the Club out of guns and he would have died before getting into drugs. Using what's in them against Clay will only get the both of us killed."
Before he could say something, Gemma walked in, "ah, sorry."
You smiled, "no problems, but that ID doesn't mean you can't knock Gemma."
Piney went to get up, "that's ok, we're done."
You placed a hand on his shoulder, "it's alright, we should finish this conversation. How can I help Gem, is Abel ok?"
You walked Gemma out of your office and into the hallway, "what do you need?"
She placed an arm on your shoulder, "I want to sign you up for a committee, Charming Central Gardens, we need to raise money to save it."
You smiled, "too late, I already donated a large portion of Anvil's earnings last month."
She smiled, "really, that's great. Oh well, you saved me a long winded speech."
You nodded, "well, I better get back to Piney, I'm working a possible Nam vet and I need to pick his brain for context."
She nodded and seemed to buy it, "great, I'll let you get back to it." You kissed her on the cheek and she left, when you returned to your office Piney was there waiting for you.
"I really need to know what you've read."
You pressed your lips together, "I just told Gemma, I called you here because I'm working on a Nam vet, that's the story you need to go with. I can't tell you what I read but I can tell you that your suspicion about Clay, the ones you've had since JT died, are true and you must know how dangerous it is to share them with anyone."
He nodded, "I hear you loud and clear Sweetheart, I was here to help with a case and nothing else you said will leave this room."
You smiled, "thanks Piney, and be safe, I'd be heartbroken if anything happened to you because I asked too many question."
He hugged you and left, the moment he was out of earshot, you called Vance, "yeah, bad news. I think Piney, one of the members, is at risk, I need to cabin bugged in case something happens to him."
"You think his put the two and two together about John after you asked him?"
He didn't sound upset, "yeah I do and he doesn't want to the Club into drugs, I'm worried he's going to put his foot in it and Clay's going to repeat history."
"We'll get it done in the next two days and send you a link to the feed. Stay safe y/n, you're more than just an operative, if anything happens to you, I'd hold myself responsible."
"I know, I care about you too Leon, but I can look after myself."
****
"Sorry to interrupt your solitude Mr Delany, Gabe Marcel Santaquin, Deputy Sheriff's department. I just need a few minutes of your time."
Otto looked up at the man and smirked, "quit the bullshit, I know who you are and I ain't talking."
Potter was taken aback, "I see Jackson Teller's old lady has covered all her bases, not matter Mr Delany, I'll be back."
****
Jax did his best not to give away how worried he was, first the meth vote going through now the Cartel showed up armed to the teeth, things were going sideways before their eyes. The only people who didn't seem shaken by the current situation were Sam and Kip but he imagined this wasn't anything new for them.
He didn't believe the Cartel for one minute about everything being ok, how could he trust them when they were armed for a war and telling them nothing was wrong. "Thirty kilos of uncut Colombian cocaine, give it a safe ride, gentlemen. We'll be up in a few days to check up on the operation."
"Come on, let's load it up."
****
"We just got an update about your friend Otto, Potter did approach him."
You took a deep breath, "are we any closer to dealing with that?"
Vance made an affirmative grunt, "it looks like they're going to hit Juan again, if he doesn't come through this time, he'll lose all his funding and it will be over. We need to wait to see how that goes before we step in."
"Great, I'll tell Parada and Torres to watch their backs, let me know if something flags."
****
The drop off at the warehouse was easy, Marcus left one of his guys there for safety while Miles and the prospect stayed close by to look after the haul. As they all headed home, Juice got a call from Roosevelt telling him to meet him on the highway, he ran up to everyone just before they left, "yeah, they was Roosevelt, he wants to met."
Clay nodded, "everyone needs to be available to answer the phone if he calls, Otto left a message with Gem that Potter went to see him."
Jax shook his head, "shit man, your sister was right, this guy does not give up."
Sam shrugged "if he can't get anyone to turn soon, he's going to lose his funding, we just have to hold him off until them."
Juice seemed to reach a resolution and left, as the other drove away, Sam pulled aside, "I think we should keep the cash at Anvil in Oakland, something tells me our fiancees wouldn't appreciate blood money being in the house, Billy's ok with it."
Jax nodded, "yeah good idea."
****
"How was the bike show?"
Juice looked around, "our PO signed off on the run."
Roosevelt was in Juice's space and his tone was short, "I'm gonna set up random piss tests, let's us get together and chat private."
Roosevelt tried to go on but Juice stopped it, "I told the Club about what you have on me, you can't do anything because you have no proof, a photo doesn't mean anything."
Roosevelt's eyes went wide but he recovered quickly, "let me guess y/n faked your DNA. I wonder what the Club would do if they found out she's helping you?" Juice shook his head and pulled out his phone.
"Let's find out."
He did what you told him to do and set up a group call, everyone picking up one after the other, "Hey Juicy, Jax isn't home yet, you need something?"
"Juice, how did it go with Roosevelt?"
"You know what to do." Juice chuckled at Happy's voice mail, then the phone clicked over as he answered, soon after he had everyone on the line.
"Yeah, y/n was right, they're still trying RICO, Roosevelt trying to say that y/n faked my DNA test."
There was a burst of laughter, "my sister, faking DNA, shit, these people really didn't do their homework."
"Oh boy, Potter is desperate, if you like Eli, you can come to the lab and watch me test it again?"
Roosevelt was silent, Potter was not going to be impressed, "can I go now?"
Roosevelt waved his hand, "yeah you can go."
You knew Jax was almost home so you called Vance in a rush, "you were right, they went after Juice again. I think it's time to let Mr Potter know who he's dealing with."
There was a chuckle, "with pleasure, would you like to do the honours?"
"You fucking bet." The noise of the keys in the door pulled you away and you heard Ima yell to Abel, "daddy's home." You came running out of the office and hugged him just as he put Abel down from saying hello, "I missed you."
Jax pressed a kiss to your lips, "I missed you too."
He was smiling from ear to ear, "how was your trip?"
"Good, I brought you a souvenir."
You raised your eyebrows, "from a bike show, I can't wait." He was holding something behind his back when he pulled his hand in front of him, there was something clenched in his fist, you tilted your head and he opened his hand.
"This is rough turquoise, how did you find it?"
He smiled, "there was a little market by the road, I thought you could add it to your collection."
Jax took in your joy filled smile, "oh Jackson, that was so sweet of you. I love it." You were running off to put in it in the case before he could say anymore.
"I'm glad Darlin, I do just about anything to see you happy."
You pulled him into your arms, "I'm always happy when I'm with you."
****
Jax left for work and you left Abel with Ima for the day, "I'll be back around four, I have to run some errands then I need to head to work, just call if you need anything."
She nodded, "drive safe."
You drove to Charming PD first and went right to Hale's office, "hey y/n, I didn't get a call from Holt, do you have a case in Charming?"
You shook your head, "no, I just wanted to let you know that Roosevelt isn't going to be a problem anymore and you should expect a visit from some friends in suits, I just didn't want you blindsided."
He nodded, "thanks and good riddance, that guy needs to go."
"Yeah he does."
You went to Roosevelt station next and walked right up to the front desk, "hello I need to see Lincoln Potter please, he should be in the upstaris office"
The cop stuttered for a moment, "right this way ma'am." He took you upstairs and to a door, "I don't have the key card some you'll have to wait to be let in." He left right away and a few seconds later, the door was opened.
"Ah Miss l/n, please come in." Potter's slimy face made you want to punch him, "I was wondering when you make a visit."
You smiled, "we have things to talk about and then you're going to get the fuck out of my town, now I need a laptop." His face fell as he watched you enter a website address and then fill in the fields.
Identification number: 41764 Bravo 1011 Echo 45 Zulu 9.
Clearance level: Alpha ten.
Operator Status: Former operative, temporarily active.
A video fed opened, "hello Mr Potter, I guess Dr l/n has decided to share what's really going on?"
Potter went pale, "no, maybe you could tell me."
Vance shot him a nasty smile, "you are to pack your RICO operation now and leave, you are no never speak of this to anyone and you are to drop any files on the cartel, the Irish and the Sons of Anarchy or you will lose your job and your freedom. If you step wrong, your dalliance down south will be all over the paper by tomorrow."
He gasped like a dying fish, "I will not ask again, there will be agents there in an hour to destroy your files, and then you are to leave on your next assignment, this has already been cleared." The video feed went black.
"I bet you're very happy with yourself?"
You nodded, "over the moon, until next time you piece of shit."
****
They got the news that RICO was done halfway through church, Gemma walking in with her burner, saying it was you and it was important "hey Darlin, is everything ok?"
He could hear the smile in your voice, "hell yeah, guess who I just saw leaving town."
"Potter?"
There was a clap, "yep, Potter. This morning took the wind out of the operation and they've cut funding, I got the call from a good friend whose job will remain nameless a few minutes ago."
Juice visibly relaxed, "that's the best news we've heard all day."
Clay sounded truly happy, "I know, as much as I'd love to stay on the line and hear you sing my praises, something came up at work and I have new interns to break in, talk soon."
Jax hung up the phone and handed it back to his mother, "God I love that woman."
They all chuckled, "careful Chibs, she's still my old lady."
With that news, church was over but Piney stayed to talk to Clay. "JT would have never touched drugs."
Clay's tone was dismissive as always "JT was a good businessman, he would have seen the value in this."
Piney shook his head, "John knew anything that brought too much heat was bad for the Club. It's why he changed his mind about the guns, remember?"
"Yeah he talked about that, getting us out."
Piney knew for sure now that Clay was responsible for Jonh's death just by the way he was talking, "he did more than talk, he reached out to Kellan to set a meet with the IRA, made a decision to get us out of the gun running business. A decision that you couldn't let him live with."
"You been talking to ghosts old man?"
Piney shook his head, "nah, not exactly. I found some old letters, John's handwriting, proof that he wanted out, proof that he feared you would do something to stop him, before that meet could ever happen, John Teller was murdered and the letters paint a vivid picture of who did it."
"JT laid his bike on five-eighty and was crushed by a semi, it was an accident."
Piney's tone was hard, "we'll never know Lowell Sr disappeared the next week and he was the only one John let work on his bike."
Clay got up, "what do you get out of this?"
"It's not about me, you kill the drug mulling or I'll let the rest of the Club read the letters."
Clay shook his head, "you ain't got any letters."
Piney huffed, "ok then. doesn't matter to me, either way, I get what I want."
Clay tried to give him an excuse but Piney wasn't interested, "you've got till the end of the week to figure it out. And in case you're still thinking about slitting my throat, I wouldn't, I have contingencies in place."
Clay went to Gemma right away, Gemma was shocked that you shared anything with him and the look on Clay's face was making her regret opening her mouth, It was her turn to try and calm Clay down but even the mention of Abel didn't help but Clay, ever the nasty monster decided to bring up that he and Gemma were together before John died.
Gemma did her best to defuse the situation and offered to find the letters, when she made Clay promise not to do anything, she didn't believe Clay's promise for a moment.
****
"The bugs are set up at the cabin, you need anything else from us?"
You looked at the copies of the letters in your hand, "yeah, I'm going to give the letters to Wayne Unser, I have a feeling Clay is going to start looking for them and I need to let Clay know that I have plans if anything happens to me."
"You want us to monitor his calls in case he green lights you?"
You took a deep breath, "why do you think I'm passing them on, I need to know where Clay stands and Unser will pass them on to him."
Vance gave an affirmative grunt, "done. I know you know what you're doing but this isn't like before, you're a mother now, you can't run headlong into danger and hope everything goes well."
"I know, I'll be careful."
You drove up the Unser's trailer and knocked on the door, he answered with a surprised look on his face. "What brings you by?"
You smiled, "Can I come in?" He nodded and stood aside and you handed him a brown folder, "if something happens to me, I need you to get this to the Club."
"What's going to happen to you?"
You shrugged, "I don't know, what's in there will tell everyone why it happened if something does."
He nodded, "ok, sure. Is there anything you need to tell me."
You looked him dead in the eyes, "don't trust Clay as far as you can throw him."
Unser was horrified as he read the letters, you were right, Clay couldn't be trusted. Before he could burn them completely, Clay drove onto his land. "What the hell are you doing?"
Clay stamped out the flames as Unser walked away, "I wish I'd never read them, lies are easier to stomach."
They went back and forth, Unser becoming angrier and angrier, "and Gemma, is she delusional too, does she know the real reason why you killed her old man?"
Clay didn't care, "what's the matter, chief, you after the love of your life betrayed you too?"
Gemma showed up soon after, Unser did his best to defuse the situation by she knew that if she didn't act fast, something terrible was going to happen, "Wayne, you and I both know what's going to happen to her if we don't do something."
Unser nodded, "I know, just let me think."
Gemma nodded and piled the burnt remnants into a zip lock bag, "let me take these to Clay, see if I can ease his worries a bit."
They both knew it was like rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.
****
"David Hale's on his way in."
You imagine it was about what he learnt this morning, "hey, what brings you by?"
He smiled knowingly, "you know what, I'm here to ask how I can help."
You shrugged, "just do as you were told, look the other way for the next few months, don't pursue the Club until this all blows over then we can go back to normal, but by that time, the Club will be legit and you won't have a reason to go after us."
He nodded, "I'm sorry you've had to go back into the life, I know it must be hard to lie to the people you love."
You nodded, "it's almost impossible but it was the best option, I can only hope that Jax forgives me."
Hale smiled sadly, "he loves you very much y/n, I think he'll understand why you're doing what you're doing."
"Don't be so sure, I can't imagine him wanting to be with me when he finds out the kind of person I really am."
Hale shook his head, "what, someone who is willing to do whatever they can to keep the people they love safe, someone who has risked life and limb for nothing in return, or the woman who is raising a sweet, respectful little boy?"
You huffed, "oh David, you wearing your heart on your puffed up sleeve is going to get you hurt, I am not as wonderful as you think I am."
David stood up to leave, turning on his heel to say something, "I don't think you're giving Jax or your friends enough credit, they don't really have grounds to judge you."
****
Gemma did her best to try and calm Clay down, showing him the burnt letters and telling Clay she took them right from your desk drawer seemed to help but the way Clay was acting still worried her, she knew he was a good liar, she only hoped she had done enough to stop him from doing something stupid.
****
It was late when you heard Jax come home and climb into the shower, after he got out of the shower, he was crawling into bed next to you, sticking one hand over your pillow and wrapping the other around your body. He pressed a firm kiss to your cheek and you turned over in his arms.
"How was your day?"
He smiled softly and he hiked your leg over his hip, "great, thanks to you. Hale even came by to apologise for not keeping a better eye on Roosevelt. How was work?'
You smiled, "we had some rich tourist come by and demand to see bone storage, Holt laid into them, it was beautiful."
Jax chuckled, "I can imagine."
He kissed you, his hand coming to hold your face while the other ran on your skin under your shirt. You could feel his cock hardening against your body as he pulled your sleep shirt off. He placed his hand on your bare back and pulled you closer as you reached under the covers and slid your hand into his boxers, wrapping your hand around his cock to stroke him to full hardness.
"What are you in the mood for?"
You shrugged, "whatever you are."
He giggled, "you want to overthrow the government to find out if aliens are real?"
You nodded, "yes, but I would like have sex with you first."
Jax laughed and rubbed his nose with yours, rolling you both over so he was on top of you, "I can do that."
He pulled your panties off and his fingers met your core, rubbing gently. "That good?"
You nodded, "that's great." He chuckled and slid his fingers through your slit, his thumb moving to your clit while he slid two fingers inside you.
You lifted one hand to hold his face, Jax leaning down to kiss you as he pressed his fingertips to your G-spot. His thumb sped up as his fingers moved with more purpose but before you could cum he was pulling away, "hey, no fair."
He shook his head and shifted until his cock was pressed against your entrance, "I want you to come around my cock."
You huffed, "well then, I'm waiting." You lifted your legs over his waist and he pushed inside you as you gasped.
He moved his hips in more of a grind as he rested his weight on top of you, he was warm and firm and his beard tickled your neck. You did you best to speed him up but he held your hip down with one hand, "just be patient, am I not allowed to enjoy you?"
You shook your head, "I'm immune to your charms."
He huffed, "your mouth says one thing but the way you're squeezing me says another."
You gasped in fake offence and slapped his shoulder, Jax laughing against your skin. "Be good now or I promise we'll be at this all night."
You held his face in your hands, running your thumb over his cheeks, "oh really? That's not the worst thing that could happen." Jax turned his head and kissed your palm, his hips beginning to speed up.
You moaned as he reached one hand down to run your clit, then he was pulling you into a kiss as he hit his stride. The edge approached gently, the orgasm coming on slowly like waves crashing on a calm beach. Jax grunted as you clenched around him, faulting slightly before continuing till he was nibbling on your skin as he came inside you.
Jax held your hip and pulled out you rolling over with you in his arms so you settled with your head on his chest, "that was nice."
He smiled, "yeah, it was, good night Darlin." He kissed your forehead then buried his nose in your hair.
"Good night beloved."
You had been here before, running through the jungle looking behind you for the men with guns and knives to come into view. The trees were almost alive with their limbs moving to close in around you.
You knew you were going in circles as you heard the people coming closer, each log and leaf becoming more alive as it felt like the forest was about to choke you. Then you came to a clearing, you could see the damp soil and the rotting leaves through gaps in the jungle, but as you ran into it, you sunk into the ground. Then the bodies started to float up from the quicksand that was sucking you under, you knew that tattoo, the gravestone covered in blood and dirt. You were vaguely aware of something touching your shoulder, then there was a voice floating threw the forest.
You shot awake, looking around as the gentle light from the lamp irritated your eyes, Jax was holding your face in his hand, trying to pull your attention away from your frantic searching or the room around you, "hey, hey, it's me." Jax's heart sank as he saw the fear in your face, "it's me, you were just having a nightmare."
You reached up and grabbed his hand, Jax squeezing you softly, "I'm sorry I woke you up."
Jax shook his head, "I'd rather wake up then have you go through it alone, you wanna tell me what happened?" He pulled you down onto his chest and ran his hand up and down your arm.
"I was in Southeast Asia trying to identify victims of a company that was killing local villagers to take over their land for lumber. When I was out for water, half the camp was wiped out, a few people died on the spot and we knew we couldn't stay so we spent the next five days running through the jungle away from the mercenaries they sent after us. It was horrible, I spent one night hiding in a filthy creek with four other people. Days without food, little sleep and only the bare amount of water made the trees feel more alive than they were."
Jax hugged you tighter as if the security of his arms could keep you safe from the memories, "I watch people die from infection, they dropped like flies one after the other, by the time we got to a major river, six of our group were dead or dying. You can't go back for the bodies when people are trying to kill you, it took four years to be able to go back and get them back home."
Jax pressed a kiss to your head, "well, you never have to go through that again, I promise I will always keep you safe."
You smiled, "I know, I love you so much."
Jax ran his thumb over your cheek, "I love you too Darlin. Try and go back to sleep, I'll be here when you wake up in the morning."

if it's okay, may i request Tighnari with the "wrong time right place" prompt?
maybe something like Tighnari beibg really stressed in Gandharva Ville for weeks on end (+ Collei's Eleazar before the Archon Quest) and not being able to reciprocate our feelings?
abd when he finally gets to us, we already have someone else taking care of us
...
I've decided to do this in a different way with how the reader moved on, kind of like Tighnari getting a taste of his own medicine. Gender neutral reader, angst.
--
Since you first saw him, you were enamoured with him. You knew he was the right guy for you, he ticked all your boxes. He was in the forest, finishing up a withering zone, and you happened to be finishing a report. You land up working with him on this report, discovering he had much to gain from your note taking and getting the Akedemiya to get on board with his ideas. You had a few meals together when working on it, and you couldn't stop your heart beating hard.
You try to make moves where appropriate, hoping to secure a relationship with him, but he doesn't bite.
"_, knock it off." Tighnari tuts one night, you asking him out for the tenth time. "Can't you take a hint? I'm not interested."
"Oh... Sorry if I made you uncomfortable..." You trail off, Tighnari turning to face you.
"You know I have lots of things on my plate due to work. I do not have the time to indulge in this." Tighnari explains. "Under different circumstances, there might have been a possibility of me accepting your confession."
"...I think I can finish this report myself." You coldly let out. "Don't worry, I won't ruin this paper because of my feelings being hurt." You reassure him, walking away.
--
When Alhaitham became the Acting Grand Sage, he decided to make you his scribe. After reading your report on the spawning areas of withering zones, as well as this being backed up by Master Tighnari in an interview, he offered you the chance to be an acting scribe until he filled all the necessary roles. Alhaitham becomes a tutor of yours, agreeing to proofread your reports and giving you useful feedback before sending you on your way to finish the report before submitting it.
After the rejection from Tighnari, you had to distract yourself with work. You fully focus on your writing, opting to remain factual and logical. You wouldn't make the same mistake as the last time like you did with Tighnari where you caught feelings that, in hindsight, he was unable to act on.
You receive requests to interview Tighnari again, and you only needed to look at the letter once to see it was sent from Tighnari himself. Shaking your head, you add these letters to a growing pile.
--
"_, it's been a while." Tighnari calls out, Cyno sitting with him. "Come, we have lots to catch up on."
You decide to walk over, not interested in wasting too much time here when you had several meetings you were due to sit in on.
"We finally got the withering zones cleared, and Collei is taking a turn for the better." Tighnari nods, making eye contact with you. "I have more time on my hands now, and I want to build up the growing relationship we had."
How rich. He told you himself that he was far too busy with work, and now its the opposite way.
"I have work to do." You simply state, leaving Tighnari and Cyno sitting there as you walk towards your first meeting area.
--
"That did not go well." Tighnari groans out, ears drooping.
"Alhaitham has that effect in people. I wouldn't take it personally." Cyno explains.
"No, they grew distant after I told them I was too busy with the withering zones." Tighnari pouts, staring at the door where you left as if you would come back in.
Cyno has to stop himself from making a terrible joke about how working on withering zones withered the relationship, seeing for Tighnari was taking you walking out.
"...I think we should skip TCG today...as much as I enjoy the game, I would rather not beat a friend who isn't mentally there." Cyno states, raising a hand to begin ordering food.

An Engineer's Dream
Fight of His Dreams
A Kalpas x Reader angst fic, chapter 3 below!
“So your name is Kalpas?” You asked while installing the second projector. There was a low hum in response that you took as a ‘yes.’ “And you’re a sim?” Another hum, this one slightly more annoyed. “And you live here with other sims?” This hum was closer to a growl, so you decided not to press any further. When you returned to the terminal screen to activate the new projector, you found a file open titled ‘The Elysian Realm.’ Scanning through it briefly, you found the answers to the questions you’d just asked along with much more helpful information.
“Why were you the one I had to fix first? Vill-V has been way more help. All you do is stand there and brood and complain that I take too long.” Kalpas was silent at the end of your rant, and for a second, you thought you might have offended him. When you looked up from what you had been reading, you found him already sending you his usual glare, assuring you that he was no more annoyed than he always was. Rolling your eyes for at least the fifth time today, you returned to the words before you.
As it turned out, Kalpas was one of thirteen Flame Chasers, soldiers for an organization called Fire Moth; hence why their logo was plastered everywhere. Kevin, your boss’ boss, was somehow a Flame Chaser as well? Maybe this was some fantasy world of his. All the people listed were from the previous era, it seemed odd that the sire of World Serpent would have been alive fifty thousand years ago.
Skimming over that fact for a moment, you continued to read and found that the place was built as some sort of archive for the Flame Chasers, as well as offer a challenge to Valkyries of the current era. There was another room you hadn’t seen yet that served as the battlegrounds. The whole space was holographic, meaning that the scenery and enemies were entirely virtual, though they hardly seemed like it.
Forty pages later, you felt even more confused, despite having much more information. Only the names you had seen before were listed as being Flame Chasers, so while you knew there were thirteen total, only Aponia, Kevin, Vill-V, and Kalpas were visible on the list. Apart from battling Honkai, you knew very little about Fire Moth or it’s projects. Repeatedly, the document suggested talking to one of the sims if you wanted clarification, though which sim knew what you wanted, or was willing to share it with you was not very apparent.
Knowing Kalpas had been irritated at simply giving his name, you somehow doubted he’d be particularly forthcoming on the info you wanted. Still, Vill-V and Aponia were hiding in the computer, and there was no way in hell you were talking to Kevin about this, leaving you with only one option.
Before you had even opened your mouth, Kalpas was shooing you away. “Don’t even think about it, mechanic. I’m not in the mood.”
“Engineer. I got a whole ass degree, thank you,” you sent a glare that could rival his own. Then, mumbling to yourself, you headed back to the workshop and away from the suddenly very hot room.
“You have shit taste in music.”
“Don’t listen then,” you carefully soldered two wires together, not looking up. Over time, the workshop had become more and more your own space, tools laid where you’d remember, and parts sorted the way you were used to. Seven of the projectors were working now and apparently Kalpas could now move close enough to hear the speaker you’d set up and complain about it—though it was rare he wasn’t complaining about something.
“Find something better,” he snapped back.
“Sorry. I don’t have any ‘Previous Era Songs to Rip and Tear to.’ You’ll have to settle for this, or nothing.” If you weren’t outside the projector’s range, you might not have been so snarky with your response, but as it stands, Kalpas couldn’t’ even make it up the stairs to the shop. He stood at the base, shouting up at you who was safe from both his flames and glare. Without the threat of those, you could be as sassy as you pleased.
You were barely able to make out a grumble, but the stomps leading away from where you worked were clearly audible and made you chuckle. Kalpas was probably off pouting now, but by the time you came down to grab lunch, he’d forget all about what had just happened. Aponia may not speak to you anymore, but she’d turn off the lights in the shop, or send a few electric shocks your way if you spent too long in the Realm.
As you’d predicted, when lunch rolled around, Kalpas was back to normal levels of annoyed, and no longer pouting—at least as far as you could tell. “Where are you going?” He sounded like a parent scolding their child for being out past curfew. Letting out a huff, you told him you were just getting food. This didn’t seem to do much to convince the nearby flames to go down, but Kalpas made no move to stop you from leaving.
Soon after, you came back carrying a tray full of food, fork hanging out of your mouth. “Cafeteria’s full,” you explained and sat down on the couch. For having been there long past its warranty, the long couch that lined part of the wall was surprisingly comfortable. “Do you have any friends in the Flame Chasers?” you broke the silence, hoping to have some sort of conversation while you ate rather than just having Kalpas watch you with that burning gaze of his.
“Sakura,” he leaned back into the couch and fixed his eyes straight ahead.
“Tell me about them?”
“No.” The word was stern but not sharp. He wouldn’t budge on the matter, but you also hadn’t upset him with the question. Humming around your for, you tried to come up with a new topic, but Kalpas beat you to it.
“You fight?”
“A bit,” you shrugged. “Well enough to stay alive and pass basic training, but not enough to become a Valkyrie.”
“Spar with me,” your company stood and gave you a fierce look while waiting for you to stand as well.
“Are you kidding?” you snorted and shook your head. “I don’t even qualify as an A-rank. You’re genetically modified and have way more experience.” Turning your fork over, you pointed it at him for a moment before angrily stabbing your food.
“Too much of a coward to fight me?” The taunt in his voice was obvious as was his confidence.
“No, I just don’t have a death wish.”
“Pathetic.”
“Will you leave me alone if I fix your stupid training room?” You groaned and focused on finishing your food so you could go back to peacefully ignoring Kalpas.
“Fighting mindless Honkai isn’t the same as defeating you.”
“It’s not,” you stood and placed your tray on the table near the door. “But I can’t repair the Elysian Ream if you break all my bones.”
“Who said anything about breaking bones?” Kalpas grinned and you could hear it through his mask. Hiding a shudder, you turned and began heading towards the workshop, pretending you couldn't feel the glare burning into your back.
You only had a few more minutes before Aponia would kick you out for the night, but this latest unit was nearly done, so you were trying to finish it before that happened. Blindly reaching for the screwdriver that you had left on the table next to you, your hands met the surface a couple times before you gave in and looked to try and find the tool. Except, of course it wasn’t there. Used to your coworkers coming by and taking things you needed, a frown formed on your face and your head immediately whipped around to find the culprit.
In a room with only one other person, it should have been obvious, yet you still were angry to find Kalpas holding your screwdriver and spinning it in his hand like it was a knife. The skill with which his fingers moved was no doubt impressive, but that didn’t stop you from furrowing your brows and sending a deadly glare. He had a knife! A very real, very sharp knife, right there on his thigh! Why did he need to take your tools and pretend they were something he already had?
“That’s not a weapon,” you grumbled, still glaring. Kalpas stopped moving, holding the screwdriver in his hand parallel to the ground as though looking down a blade. Slowly his gaze dropped to meet yours. Without being able to see it, you knew he was raising an eyebrow.
“It’s not meant to be a weapon,” you corrected.
“Ok.” Kalpas didn’t move.
“And…” You took a deep breath. Weapon or not, in his hands, that screwdriver could easily spell your end, and you weren’t exactly in the mood right now. “I need that for my repairs, so can I have it back please?” Hesitantly, you reached your hand out, wanting the tool, but also not wanting to be within stabbing range. Kalpas only stared at you, his grip on the handle tightening for a second, causing the leather in his glove to creak.
Right when you were about to give up and grab a different screwdriver (there were close to fifty of the same kind in the workshop) you got yours back. In less than a second, Kalpas flipped the tool so he was holding it by the other end, then firmly dropped the handle into your palm. The sudden movement caused you to flinch away instinctively, and the deep chuckle you heard made it obvious, he knew what he had just done. Still, you held on to the handle, and pulled away with the screwdriver, turning back to your work with your shoulders raised up to your ears.
Bringing your lunch back to the Elysian Realm to eat with Kalpas had become a regular occurrence. Sometimes—most times—he wouldn’t talk to you, and you’d either sit in silence, or continue working while he watched you. Sometimes—very rarely—there would be what could almost be considered a conversation between the two of you. Asking questions usually got you nothing, small talk usually got you nothing, and arguing always got you nothing.
“Isn’t it your job to answer questions about this place?” Your attempts had once again been shot down and you were beginning to consider giving up learning anything about the place until someone new arrived. There’s no way they’re as difficult to deal with as who you were working with now.
“You’re cleaning up the mess left by the last person who got the answers they wanted.” Kalpas didn’t sound angry for once, but he certainly wasn’t laid back. His tone held a tenseness that had you on edge, even though you didn’t fully understand what he was referring to.
“The last successor?” you questioned around a bite of food. Unsurprisingly, Kalpas didn’t answer, his silence giving you a chance to piece things together in your mind. “Was it Mei?”
“That Herrscher…” The words rumbled in his chest, and flames began to flicker around his head. Mei had come to World Serpent after you. The two of you hadn’t interacted at all, but rumors about here were unavoidable. Where she was disappearing off to, no one knew, but everyone knew she was going somewhere. It would make sense if the Elysian Realm had been her destination, given its original purpose, and her closeness to Kevin.
“When she left suddenly…I guess that’s when everything broke down.” You were speaking more to yourself than Kalpas now. He was still lost in his rage towards the girl at the moment, not hearing a word you said. “Her Herrscher powers easily could account for all the damage to the electrical system, but the software and files?”
“She brought another damn Herrscher with her.” The fires next to you grew, and Kalpas swore.
“The Herrscher of Corruption,” you whispered, taking a sharp breath through your nose when the flames erupted. Miraculously, the couch was unscathed, and your eyebrows intact, but Kalpas’ hair was tipped in embers and a trail of heat followed him as he angrily paced back and forth in front of you. Given the fierce reaction, you understood why he refused to answer questions now.
Moving carefully so as to not gain the attention of the walking fireball you now shared a room with, you stood from the couch and started for the safety of the workshop. It was an hour before the flames died down, another hour after that before the shouting stopped, and when you left for the night, Kalpas was still visibly tense.
I do not know what chapter titles are, good luck my friends. Also I make that joke about 'rip and tear radio' but I unironically listen to the Doom OST so… also do you like how I went "here's the schedule I'm gonna follow :)" and then immediately threw it out the window?

"It was me, Cody. It was me who killed Waxer. I'm almost positive about this..." Rex said quietly // If it's not so too late, oh, lovely Angst Igauana
It Was.... You?
You have awakened something terrible. This idea is exquisitely torturous and Iove it.
─── ❖ ── ✦ ── ❖ ───
Rex hadn't stopped shaking, for days, he'd been shaking non-stop. Even while Cody held him and rocked him in his arms, telling him everything wasn't terrible anymore, he still shook. He still cried and he still wanted to die. The two sat in the barracks, Rex was holding himself as Cody did. The younger brother stared off as the memories flashed through his head, his stomach turning, "Cody, I, I think I know who shot Waxer." He mumbled, eyes not meeting his brother's.
Cody perked up, "What do you mean?" They know who shot Waxer, it was a brother, but it wasn't on purpose and it wouldn't have happened if Krell hadn't been there. "Rex, what do you mean?" He asked again. For a long moment, Rex didn't move, every part of him numb as a hot tear streamed down his face.
"I keep replaying everything in my head and I remember seeing a spot on a helmet, Waxer's helmet." Rex recalled, his voice monotone and broken, "Cody, I killed him," his head at last turned to face Cody, who's eyes narrowed. "He's dead because of me."
"Rex, it wasn't your fault, if you had known-"
"But I didn't!" Rex screamed, jumping to his feet, he stumbled a little as his knees almost gave out. "I didn't know so I shot him!" He continued to scream, causing Cody's throat to run dry as he desperately thought of what to say. "I don't deserve to be a Captain, not when I lead good men to their deaths. I killed so many brothers, I was counting in my head, wanna know how many?" His voice was dry.
Cody stared at his brother, he was sleep deprived, shaky and still in shock. Cody couldn't think of what to say to his poor brother, "Twentynine" Rex inturrupted Cody's thoughts, "I killed twentynine brothers before I realized they were brothers." Rex laughed, tears pouring from his eyes, "Twentynine brothers died by my hand, Waxer died by my hand before I realized, they were brothers."
Cody stood up, reaching out his hand, but just as he was about to speak, a voice cut in. "What did you say?" Both brothers turned to them, Boil. He stood still, "What did you say?" He repeated, taking a step closer. "C-cause it sounded like you said you killed Waxer, d-did you Rex? Kill Waxer?" Boil fumbled over his words. He hadn't been able to sleep, he hadn't been able to breath.
Rex froze as he stared at Boil, he'd never seen him without Waxer by his side. "I did, I killed him." Rex confirmed. Cody shook his head, and as he was about to speak, but found himself cut off yet again as Boil ran into Rex, forcing him against the wall, gripping his shirt collar tightly.
"It was you?!" He screamed, slamming Rex against the wall, "You killed him!?" He screamed, tears of pained rage falling from his eyes, "You killed my brother! My best friend!" He pulled Rex forward slightly before slamming him back yet again. Rex tried to break free, but part of him didn't fight back, for he deserved this. "You killed Waxer, out of everyone it was you?!" He kept slamming Rex back until Cody broke them apart. "You bastard!" He yelled.
"Boil!" Cody screamed as he shoved him off Rex and back, "Take a walk!" He ordered, voice loud and sharp. Rex fell to the ground, sobbing loudly like a child, rocking slightly. "Go-" Cody ordered, watching Boil shake his head, a snarl on his face. He stared at Rex, still shaking his head before leaving the barracks in a rush. Once Boil had promptly exited, Cody turned to Rex and collapsed to the floor next to him, "Hey, Rex, it's okay lil'un," Cody reached his hand out, only to jump when Rex snapped away
"Don't touch me!" Rex wailed as he rocked, whimpering between staggered breaths, "I deserved it! I deserve this!" He continued to ball as Cody felt his own heart crumble at the sight of seeing his baby brother so indescribable hurt. "Leave me alone." Rex whimpered, burying his face in his arms .
"N-no!" Cody blurted as his eyes watered, "I'm not leaving you." He stated, catching Rex's attention as he spoke, for his voice had cracked. Cody couldn't meet the gaze of his little brother, for he was supposed to be strong, he wasn't supposed to cry in front of him.
"Cody." Rex whimpered, becoming more sad that he made his brother cry. "Cody please don't cry, please." Rex begged as he crawled towards his brother, he was frantically wiping his eyes, but the tears were too much. Rex reached his brother and tugged on Cody's arms, but they wouldn't budge "Cody, stop crying," Rex continued to weakly pull his brother's arm as he had when they were young, "Stop crying!"
"I can't!" Cody's head shot up, "I know I'm supposed to be strong enough for us but dammit Rex, I can't take it! I can't take watching you sob and sob and I can't handle the fact that I can't help you or take away your pain!" Cody confessed, face red hot, "You're suffering and I can't help you!" Rex stared wide-eyed at Cody as he thought of what to say, but nothing came in mind. So Rex did the one thing he knew he could, he hugged his brother.
Pulling Cody to him and hugging him tightly. "I love you, Bubby." Rex mumbled, hiding his head in Cody's shoulder and neck. He felt Cody's shoulders drop as his arms wrapped around him, tightly closing his eyes as he held Rex just as tight. "....I know I'm a mess sometimes, you're always there for me, I never stopped to consider that you were a mess too." Rex sighed, his tears finally stopping. Cody whimpered as he rocked the two of them, eyes shut tight.
"It's okay." Cody forced out in a clear tone, "That's what big brothers are supposed to do," Cody pulled away from the hug, he forced a soft smile as he reached out and wiped away the tears on Rex's face, "I'm supposed to take care of you." He stated. Rex reached out his hand to wipe away Cody's tears, he then smiled,
"Doesn't mean I can't take care of you too"
