After reading the last Burt Espresso chapter (absolutely love it and the whole fic btw) I was wondering what happened that Trumpet ended up with Bagi and Tina. You described a man on the bus that I assumed was Maxo in an earlier chapter when Bagi, Tina, Fit, and Tubbo were going to pick up the kids from school, so I think he had to have had trumpet at some point.
If you plan on talking about it in the fic that’s fine and I look forward to reading it, but if you don’t plan on talking about it, how did Trumpet end up in Bagi and Tina’s care?
I don’t plan on talking about this in the fic since it’s kind of a background thing, but here’s the story! (It’s a bit long sorry but there’s quite a bit lmao)
Maxo was in college when his roommate (Dan) came home with a random little kid one day in their junior year (second to last year of schooling if you’re not from America :]) that he apparently found on the street and couldn’t say no to taking in since there were no good orphanages in the town (being a college town they weren’t really necessary) and it was the middle of winter and the kid would’ve starved to death
the two of them ended up splitting parental duties of Trumpet, and they lived with the two of them in their college dorm (no the school did not know, they refused to tell them because they were afraid they’d take trumpet from them)
they really weren’t sure what to do after graduation, but Dan went on a trip overseas and the boat he was on went missing during a massive storm, and he (along with everyone on the ship) was declared dead only a few months later (Trumpet was about 2 at this point)
maxo tried his best to care for trumpet for the next year, but his job as an explosions specialist ended up forcing him to be away from home for long periods of time, and he wasn’t able to care for Trumpet properly. He was very conflicted and upset and not sure what to do with three-ish year old Trumpet, so he started asking around if anyone knew people looking to adopt
this is where Bagi, still in college, and her best friend Tina come in :) they were planning on staying in the town after graduation anyway, since Bagi’s twin met some guy and is staying and her younger brother is there for college two years after her, and had agreed to buy a house together. Maxo met Bagi at a grocery store where he worked part time to bring in some extra money to support his kid, and he helped her find a specific product that they’d moved recently so it wasn’t in the same place. They’d got to chatting, and Bagi mentioned her friend Tina (because let’s be honest, her gay ass was WHIPPED the second she met her and she can and will ramble to anyone and everyone about her perfect “best friend”) and how she loved kids, and Max told her that he had Trumpet. Bagi had offered to tell Tina about the kid, and naturally when she did the first thing Tina did was do a little digging, find maxo’s number, and call him to ask to meet his adorable kid
They met up at a park, and Tina loved Trumpet immediately. Maxo was nervous but as he met up with Tina a few more times, sometimes with Bagi and sometimes not, he realized that maybe there was a solution right here in front of him now. Because his darling baby deserved a better life than having an absent father who was gone half the time. Especially when Tina turned to Bagi and squealed “Bagi I want a baby!” When Trumpet had shown her a drawing he’d done for them
Maxo sat down with the two of them and explained his situation as soon as they graduated, and naturally the two of them immediately offered to take Trumpet in and adopt them if Maxo approved, as they had just bought a house together and they had space and time for a kid. maxo agreed, and he signed away his legal parentage of Trumpet to Bagi and Tina, who adopted Trumpet when he was about 5 and have been caring for them ever since :)
Sometimes when Maxo is in town he’ll take Trumpet out on day trips or just hang out with him, teach him some DJ tricks (an old hobby/side job of his from his college and high school days) while he’s staying with friends, Trumpet doesn’t really remember him very well as her father but they were told about what happened by Bagi and Tina so they call him papa anyway

I feel a little bad saying this because I know how much it means to a lot of people but I am... not upset about the cancellation of OFMD.
In my opinion, S2 was rushed and messy. Characters didn't so much develop as change on a dime. None of the journeys of self-discovery, love, and meaning felt earned; they felt smashed together in a disjointed montage that lasted the whole season, an exercise in getting from Point A to Point B in as little time as possible.
(Respect where deserved to Izzy, the only exception to this from my view.)
Not only was everything rushed and messy but it also seemed to lose touch with the heart of the show and of its characters. I didn't recognize any of them anymore; they all felt like strangers. Poignant and meaningful themes from S1 were completely absent, overshadowed by dumb gags that were just dumb, with no added depth or wit to them. Characters I loved from S1 actively gave me the ick and made me uncomfortable in S2. (And that's not even to mention new characters introduced in S2--not Auntie and Zhang, they were actually the best part of the season--but if I were to ever watch S2 again I would actively skip the episode with Anne and Mary. That was awful and toxic and uncomfortable and, in the absence of any other wlw relationships on the show, made the whole thing feel like one big anti-sapphic microaggression.)
Maybe it's fandom's fault; maybe the depth and breadth of creativity and analysis that we subsisted on between the end of S1 and the launch of S2 was the kind of perfect storm that a small team of insulated writers could never hope to live up to (I am reminded of the Reichenbach theories from Sherlock days, and Moffat's glaring ineptitude at delivering a satisfying explanation that followed). That's no one's fault.
But I remember telling my wife when we watched it: "This feels like DJ was worried about not getting a S3, so he smashed everything he wanted to do into too few episodes rather than leave the story without an ending if renewal didn't happen". The story had an ending; a decently clean and satisfying one, all things considered, and I am genuinely content with where everyone ended up even if I remain baffled at how the show wants us to understand they got there. So in a way, this news kind of feels like a self fulfilling prophecy.
It feels like the creators didn't believe in the show--and honestly, their audience--enough to stick to their guns and tell it the way it deserved to be told, and trust that it and we would continue to stand on its own merits. They rushed it to a "good enough" ending, just in case. And then Max looked took that ending at face value and said, "Thanks for the ending! You're done now."
I'm giving a decent amount of benefit of the doubt, here. It's entirely possible that the story got told exactly how they wanted it to (in which case it wasn't a victim of fear in the current creative climate--it was just bad, and the cancellation was ENTIRELY deserved). But: assuming that isn't the case. Idk. it's a story about pirates, which themselves have long been a narrative symbol in fiction for standing up against the the demands and rules and norms of society, for daring to strike out on your own path, rules and consequences both be damned. S2 didn't do that. They played it safe, took the King's Writ and gold and turned to privateering instead (to continue the metaphor), and so...I think its death is fitting.
(I'm purposefully not tagging this with the fandom tag, because I don't want people to come across this in the tag while they're mourning a show they care about, but if it somehow shows up in the tag anyways because of my other tags below please give me a heads up so I can adjust.)

This is a new version of my TD characters sexualities bc I rewatched it and I changed my mind on a couple of things
Chris is the embodiment of being gay and homophobic
Chef is gay
Beth is straight in my opinion, I know I said she was my pan child but I rewatched the show and she just doesn’t give me that vibe + I don’t like her that much anymore so... yeah
DJ is still my gay child, I’ll do everything for him and his two mums; TDWT did him dirty
Gwen is still the goth bisexual queen; for my own sake I’ll ignore what the writers did with her and act like the kiss never happened and you should do the same; her and Duncan should’ve remained friends, case closed drive safely
Geoff is giving me bisexual vibes
Lindsay is either bi or pan, but I’ll go with pan; she was robbed, I’m telling you, ROBBED
I’d say that Heather is a lesbian, but since aleheather is my ride or die ship, I’ll say that she’s bi
Duncan is just giving me bi vibes, maybe bi with a preferance for women, but bi nonetheless
Tyler is a chaotic bisexual; just watch his first interaction with Alejandro and you’ll understand
I see Harold as straight, but I could be wrong
Trent is my bi child; they did him dirty in TDA, he deserved so much better
Bridgette is pan; she is my second favourite character and I’ll not argue on that; this girl was robbed, I’m still mad about it
Noah remains our sarcastic gay pal, he’s probably ace as well and most likely in a relationship with Owen
I want to say that Leshawna is a lesbian but I’ll say she’s bi; I love her and her elimination in TDI was stupid
Sadie and Katie are lesbian girlfriends, try to change my mind
Ezekiel is aroace, I don’t have an explanation for that, he just is
Cody is a bisexual king, I also see him as a trans boy
Eva is a raging lesbian, she has a special place in my heart
Owen is our chaotic bisexual king but we all know that; it was made very clear from the first episode
Courtney is yet another chaotic bisexual; I can see her and Gwen getting together after the show
I think Justin is aroace
Izzy is pan in my opinion
Alejandro is just really bisexual, you can argue with the wall
Sierra is bi with a preferance for men (Cody)
Jo is our hardcore butch lesbian; I’m pretty sure I had a crush on her when I watched TD as a child, should’ve told me something sooner
Scott is ace and maybe bi but with a preferance for women
Zoey is a chaotic pansexual queen, she is my child, even though I feel like putting my hands around her neck ever so often for some of the stupid stuff she does but anyway
Mike is most likely bi with a preferance for women; as for his alters, Vito is a pansexual mess, Svetlana is a raging lesbian, Mal is a they/them aroace brat, Chester is just... Chester and I don’t even know what to say about Manitoba Smith so...
Lightning is so gay, he’s most definitely best friends with Jo bc lesbian/jock solidarity; he probably takes Jo to buy clothes and gives her fashion advice; I mean, just look at him, this guy has a super bowl champion father and trophy wife mother, you can NOT tell me that he doesn’t dress well and take care of himself religiously
Brick is yet another gay man; and a bottom
B is aroace, maybe even a trans man
Dawn is my favourite character from the whole thing so I’m probably projecting this but she is unlabeled, but if it would be to put a label on herself it would probably be pansexual, cuz she doesn’t give a frick about gender, she just loves
Dakota is bi with a preferance for men
Anne Maria is either really bi or really straight, no in between
Staci is probably straight but idk
Cameron is my aroace child
Sam is giving me bisexual vibes
I won’t do the whole Pakitew Island cast bc I haven’t rewatched it and I’m not really planning on it but I do have some opinions about some of the characters so...
Scarlett is a raging lesbian
Topher is gay
Jasmine is bi and so is Shawn
I like to say that Max is aroace, maybe a they/them or he/they as well but idk
Samey is a chaotic bisexual, lesbian could also work
Ella is yet another lesbian, she could also be bi but I’m going with lesbian
Special mentions to Brody who I personally see as pan and also in a poly relationship with Geoff and Bridgette
and also, Josee is a lesbian

Too Late: Alya & Nino (commission for miner249er)
Fourth chapter of @miner249er ‘s commission
Chapter Summary: The truth is harsh. Teens are harsher.
Previous Work
Last Chapter                          Next Chapter
Truth.
As an aspiring journalist it was something Alya strived for. It was the most important thing she could give the people who followed her so diligently. She thought she had been giving them that. She had been so good about giving them the truth, her truth, and Ladybug’s truth in the past, she foolheartedly believed she was continuing to do so despite taking shortcuts later on in the road. Why didn’t she fact check herself? Why did she throw that very thing in Marinette’s face? What kind of reporter was she? What kind of friend was she? The answers were all around her and yet she still wasn’t ready to face them head on. There was still that voice in her head that was telling her that this was all Lila Rossi’s fault.
But is it? Alya thought as her and Nino ate together at her house, the TV on in the background. At first it had been on the news but Alya was done with the news for a long while, all it had been was coverage of The Protector and Nino had immediately taken the remote and changed it to cartoons. This was hitting him hard, harder than Alya had expected if she was being honest. When they found out Ladybug and Chat Noir had, in fact, not defeated The Protector and instead the akuma, that Marinette had gone missing, it hit the class hard. Hard because they learned the truth about Lila in that time and that had been rough to work through. Then they had to come to the realization that they believed Lila over Marinette, the sweet, kind, selfless girl that had all at one point been friends with.
Then the lies got to them. It poisoned them. That’s what Alya had written on her blog anyways. They were victims of a silver-tongue and they had paid the price, one they had not been prepared to pay for. Their friend was missing, had been missing and they couldn’t do anything. Alya had been searching through as many local papers and news around the world for any clues if Marinette had possibly gone to those places. Everything was coming up empty. She had even made a separate website along with Max all about Marinette and what had happened, she left ways to reach her and her classmates in case anyone had any info. Nino said they should have added Tom and Sabine’s information as well but Alya was too scared to ask them if they would be okay with it, last time they had all been at the bakery the tension had been palpable.
They weren’t banned like Nathaniel had worried they would be but every time they went in with their families, because that was the only time they went in there, it was always awkward. Tom and Sabine were much too nice to ban them even if they felt like they deserved it. How did everything go so wrong? Even school wasn’t as fun as it had been. Walking into their classroom was like taking a walk of shame, people from other classes, even teachers just stared at them. Some even glared. Then there were the whispers, Dieu the whispers, they followed them everywhere not just school, but they were the most prominent there. Her, Nino, and their classmates would find notes in their lockers, none were really threatening but they tore at her heart all the same. Things like, ‘You’re the reason she’s gone,’ or, ‘Are you guys proud of yourselves now?’ ‘Were the lies worth it?’ ‘You traded in a gem for fool’s gold.’ ‘What a reporter you turned out to be.’
All the notes hurt. That was the truth. That last one? She had found it in her locker this morning and it burned. Alya had been bullied before, she never liked to think about it, who would? But she was and she had to acknowledge it because she had told herself she would never allow herself to be bullied again, and most importantly, she would never turn into a bully. Wrong. She was wrong, and it wasn’t the first time she had been made aware of this since everything happened. Since everything changed. It was a blessing that Nino and her were still together, he never partook in the “tough love” the class had been giving Marinette before she...before she had been akumatized. Sure he didn’t stop them, and that was bad, but he didn’t go out of his way to not invite her to things until she stopped being “jealous” and started acting like the bigger person. Nino wasn’t the one who ignored her text messages, which now that Alya read them, were pretty telling that her friend had been hurting and she had only made that worse.
“What are you thinking about babe?”
Alya looked up from her half eaten bowl of soup to see Nino gazing at her in concern. “Marinette.”
“Oh…” He breathed out as he put his spoon down and looked down at the table before placing one of his hands on hers and giving her a small smile. “Everything will be okay Alya. Someone will find her and then she’ll be back home.”
Empty words. Empty words fed to him too much from adults who didn’t have any updates on anything. “You don’t believe that. And even if she did...who's to say she would even want to talk to us!? What’s to say that anything would be better? We would still be seen as the bad guys! We will still all have to eat lunch at our houses or the park just to avoid the stares and the whispers and the tossed trash our way and the “accidentally” spilled drinks!”
Alya had never understood just how much their class had been living in its own little world. Not to say they were completely unattached to the rest of the school, Alix, Nathaniel, Rose, Chloe, and Sabrina were in the art club (the art teacher and the rest of the club had made a mural of Marinette without notifying them or asking for their help. Everyone is encouraged to leave notes about Marinette on the mural. The art room even has a chair decorated in honor of Marinette that no one else can use. That was announced very pointedly Alix later shared.), Rose was in the scrapbooking club (no one asked to use her materials anymore like they used to), and Max was in the gaming club which Marinette had helped him set up (people weren’t showing up lately.) They weren’t kicked out, but they were reminded of Marinette all the time,it was like everyone’s way of punishing them. It had never occurred to any of them how popular Marinette was.
So popular that the whole school seemed to hate them. Even Mlle Mendeleiev seemed to be harsher than normal and that was really saying something, it would seem like she had a soft spot for Marinette. In their class everyone avoided Marinette’s seats in class, Alya had to step up as class representative but the silver lining was that Nino had stepped up to be her deputy. Though another negative was the fact Nino had stopped making his music and taking DJ gigs. At first he hadn’t said anything to her or their friends, Alya found out because of Chris actually, but then her and Adrien confronted him and he broke down. He cried and he didn’t stop for a long time, but when he had calmed enough to talk he pulled out old pictures of him and Marinette, told them stories about how they had grown up together. It had made the pit in Alya’s stomach grow, she had just been thinking about her and how much she blamed herself and how much she missed her best friend, she hadn’t even thought how this was affecting Nino.
“I...I need to believe it Alya. I need to. Because if I don’t I will break apart. Mari...Marinette and I were best friends in l'école primaire. I never thought she would ever not be a part of my life. Then the whole Lila thing happened and I turned into a coward again, like I had with Chloe! No, worse than a coward! I don’t even know what I would call myself but I know I can’t call myself her friend.” His voice rose the more he spoke and near the end it cracked.
“Nino…”
“No. I know that’s the truth! And I know, I know that things at school have been rough. Hell, they’ve been awful, everyone sees us as these villains in some trashy young teen novel when all we’ve done is make a mistake! Yes. It was a big mistake but it was a mistake nonetheless but we’re...we’re kids dammit. We’re just kids.” Alya felt tears race down her cheeks as she saw her boyfriend break yet again, his cheeks wet with his tears, his voice choked with his guilt.
“I know. I just...I just want her back. I want everything back. I don’t know how many times we have to apologize to the school, but they’re not even the ones that need to hear the apologies! The one we need to have hear us isn’t here and…” Alya could feel herself breaking but she tried to hold on. Nino needed her to be strong. Her class needed her to be strong. Her family needed her to be strong.
“I can’t take the stares! Or, or hear Rose’s cries that she tries to hide from us. Mylene hasn’t been eating and I know she thinks we don’t notice and Adrien, god Adrien. I’m trying to hold it together because my bro is falling apart at the seams! First Marinette gets...gets fucking akumatized, then his dad and Nathalie get taken to the hospital from some supposedly random attack but it’s pretty obvious it was Mar-the akuma’s doing, his mom freaking pops out of nowhere but of course that can’t just be a good thing because everyone has to talk about how his dad and Nathalie were probably Hawkmoth and Mayura! And I’m over here trying not to think too much about all that because it makes actually too much sense, but then we find out that Marinette was most likely Ladybug! LADYBUG!” He lamented, not bothering to hide the fact he was crying, more like sobbing. It just made Alya cry more.
“I...I wanted the truth for so long, but not like this. Not like this. I...I know this makes me sound like the worst person on the planet but I kind of wish stupid Gabriel Agreste wasn’t Hawkmoth because then I could be akumatized and maybe I could be some kind of time-travelling akuma and we could go back and fix everything and school wouldn’t be hell and the twins wouldn’t act like they had to walk on eggshells around me all the time and my dad wouldn’t look like he’s always so disappointed in me and my mom wouldn’t look at my with only pity in her eyes and Nora would talk to me and Marinette would be back!” Alya sobbed out. At this point her and Nino had moved from their seats to the kitchen floor and were huddled together hugging each other for comfort.
The two just sat there soaking up whatever comfort they could and dreaded the time that passed. For each minute that passed, was a minute that brought them closer to having to go back to school. Alya didn’t know if she had the strength to go back and deal with everything, she didn’t know if Nino could handle it either, but she knew her mother would be by any minute to give them a lift back to school. If there was a way she could just finish school online, Alya was willing to do it, but her father wouldn’t ever allow it. He had put his foot down, Otis Césaire was mad, then he was disappointed and he thought it only fair that Alya face her peers and continue on at Françoise Dupont. It didn’t feel fair, it didn’t feel fair at all, it felt like punishment. Hadn’t she been punished enough? Even in sleep she wasn’t safe, all she dreamed of was Lila and her making her act like a puppet. She would see puppet her do all these things to Marinette and she would wake up in sweat and tears.
“Okay I’m here, I hope you two are ready to head ba-” Alya looked up to see her mom standing there staring at her and Nino, her mouth agape. “Oh Alya...Nino...How about I call the school and tell them you’re not feeling good? And I’ll call your parents Nino.”
Alya was going to respond, she really was, but when she opened her mouth nothing came out but a choked off cry and nod. Nino nodded as well as he took in a shaky breath. “Th-Thanks, Mme C.”
“Nino, you know I told you to call me Marlena. Now you two go rest in Alya’s room while I make those calls. Then maybe I can get the rest of the day off and-”
“No manman. Things...things are already bad enough, don’t make it worse by not going back to work. I don’t...I don’t want to be the reason why you get fired.” Alya mumbled as she and Nino got up off the floor.
“Oh...Oh my little one, that won’t happen. And if it did, not because of you. Never. Don’t you think that.” Alya’s mother breathed out as she pulled her daughter into a hug before taking her daughter’s face in her hands and doing her best to wipe her tears.
“Papa and Nora would! Nora still won’t talk to me and Papa only looks at me like he’s disappointed he ever had me!” Alya cried out before she could stop the words from coming out. Her mind completely forgot that Nino was standing right beside her until she felt him hold her hand and give it a squeeze.
“Your Papa is just being stubborn, but you listen to me, he could never ever be disappointed in having you. You are our daughter. You made a mistake yes, but I know you know you made a mistake and that you are sorry. Your Papa will realize that. He just needs time. And Nora...she just needs time too. I just think she doesn’t know how to handle everything and that she’s mad that she couldn’t protect you sweetie. She’s always been the protective older sister, and this was something she couldn’t protect you from herself. They’ll come around. I’m sure.”
“If you’re sure manman…”
“I am. Now you kids go relax. I’m going to take the rest of the day off and go to the store for dinner ingredients, I’ll be back soon. I know things are hard my little Melusine but they won’t always be like this.” With a kiss to her forehead and a swift hug to Nino, Alya’s mom left the two teens in the family apartment.
At first they just stood there in silence and sniffles, but Nino made the move to put their plates in the sink and rinse them out while Alya gathered their schoolwork back into their bookbags. Then they  made their way to Alya’s room and kicked off their shoes before sitting on the bed. Nino nudged Alya who looked at him in confusion until she saw him give her a crooked smile and open his arms which she fell easily into. She took off her glasses and placed them on her bedside table while she felt more than saw Nino take off his cap. For a while they just sat there in the quiet of the moment and Alya was content to do just that, to just have a moment of peace, but she slowly pushed away and reached for her remote to turn on the TV and quickly pulled up Netflix. Her mom wanted them to relax so why not fry their brains with some television.
“Anything in particular you want to watch?” She asked as she settled back against Nino.
“As long as it has nothing to do with school or superheroes...I’m good.” Nino responded with a hollow chuckle.
“I’m glad we don’t have to go back too…” She murmured, “Should we...tell the others?”
“Probably. But if I’m being honest I don’t really feel like talking to them and them asking how we are and if we’re okay when they know we’re not. I just. I don’t think I could handle that. Not today.”
“I get it. Sometimes I feel like everyone else even blames me for what happened. Like... Like it was my responsibility to not fall for the lies and to warn them. Like my word would have made a difference! Mari...Marinette’s didn’t so why would mine?” Alya huffed as she scrolled through all the movie and show choices and tried her best not to cry again.
“If they blame you then they need to blame me too and blame the people in the mirror. We all fell for the lies. Sure you’re the budding reporter, but the blame could just as easily be pushed onto Max who is so smart he created a living AI. But we have no one to be mad at but ourselves and we can only do that for so long.” Nino sighed as he held her closer and kissed her temple. Alya relished in the warmth of it all.
“When did you get so wise?” Alya teased softly.
“When I decided to rewatch Star Wars. But no seriously. If anyone in class bothers you please tell me because we should be sticking together not at each other’s throats.” Nino stuck out one hand and Alya slid her hand into his.
“Cross my heart and hope to die. I will. And you’re right, we do need each other, especially now, especially at that school.”
“Especially at that school, yeah.” He laughed out. “We’re going to get through this. I don’t know how, but, we are and we’re going to do it together.”
Alya smiled wryly before she looked up at Nino and it slipped into a real small smile. “Together.” She agreed softly.

Ooh ooh, in the mood for some Steve? Maybe you could write one where he’s trying to decide if him and reader are just friends or if he’s in love with her and he decides that they’re just friends. Then he sees her at a formal event and she’s all dressed up and he’s just like “nope, not friends, oh no, definitely in love” and he spends the whole night jealous and brooding because she’s there with someone else. But then at the end of it, he confesses his feelings to her and kissss her? I know this is so specific but it just seems like an ideal situation for Steve in my head.
I love this prompt! This takes place in the universe of my Henderson!Reader series, and let’s say that the Hawkins seniors had their prom a couple weeks after the snow ball, because plot. This is the song playing at the dance.
Prom Queen - Steve Harrington x Reader
He was just your friend.
Just your friend who sometimes brought pizza over in the middle of the night, or knew what the best scary movie was to rent (probably because he’d found out from Dustin.)
Just your friend, who had kissed you - but only just that one time.
Besides, it barely even counted. The two of you had gotten caught up in the moment - he saved your life, you’d kissed him. It was dumb, and completely reckless, and really, really impulsive.
...And it kinda made you want to do it again.
But you couldn’t. Steve had kissed you back, but it wasn’t like he’d admitted to having feelings for you. He’d just broken up with Nancy, and Nancy was your friend. You weren’t going to throw yourself at her ex-boyfriend, especially if he couldn’t care less about you, romantically.
The problem is, it’s inconvenient not to have someone to go to prom with. Really, really inconvenient. You wanted to ask Steve so badly - you were friends, after all, it wouldn’t be so strange - but you couldn’t even have asked him if you wanted to - because when you had subtly mentioned the subject, Steve had shut you down.
He didn’t want you. When were you going to understand that?
On one hand, you didn’t want to hurt Steve by going with someone else. On the other, he’d wrecked you, and you kind of did want to hurt Steve.
And, unfortunately for the both of you, you knew exactly how to do that.
“Remember,” Max lectured her brother, who stood awkwardly next to you, “If you do anything, Y/N’s gonna tell me about it - and I’ll kill you, understand?” “Yes, Max,” Billy muttered, through gritted teeth. “Understand?” “Yes, Max.”
Max shrugged, opening the car door for the two of you.
“He should be good,” she said. “Let me know how it goes.” You flashed her an uncharacteristically dorky thumbs up.
Billy groans.
...
This could not be happening.
Steve Harrington’s life had been even more of a wreck than usual, lately. No college. No job. No girlfriend. No friends.
No friends, that is, except you.
You. Who he’d pushed away.
Why he’d done it, even he didn’t know. Maybe it was because you were the first thing he’d loved in a long time, and he just wasn’t sure whether it was real. Steve didn’t want to hurt you by later realizing that you’d just been a rebound. He needed time.
Maybe I’ll figure it out tonight, he thought, checking his bowtie in the school’s bathroom mirror, and walking back into the gymnasium.
And seeing you, and - oh, no.
This could not be happening.
You and Billy Hargrove, his arch nemesis. The guy who had busted his face up. ‘Course, you hadn't known that. As far as he knew, Dustin had never explained to you why he looked the way he did. The rest of that night was so overwhelming, Steve wouldn’t be surprised if you hadn’t given it a second thought. This wasn’t fair.
And then you walked closer, and he really got to see you - your dress wasn’t cheesy or awful, like everyone else’s. It was black, with a tulle skirt, and fake-leather corset. You wore elbow-length gloves, and your hair was styled just the way you liked it.
You looked pretty - you were pretty.
And he knew that he loved you.
Not that it mattered. He had pushed you away, and now you were in love with Billy Hargrove. Which was... fine.
Steve couldn’t care less.
...
“Alright,” you said, in a low, persuasive voice, as you and Billy danced, “You better keep your hand on my waist, Hargrove - Steve’s coming over.”
But to your surprise, Steve breezed right past you. You’d been hopeful, for a moment... he’d spent the whole night glaring at you, bowtie untied, shirt collar open, looking as wrecked as he seemed to feel on the inside.
...Oh. You remembered why he was heading up. It was a quarter to nine, and that was when Hawkins High announced prom king and queen - which Steve had won last year, and was a sure bet to win again.
“Alright,” said a red-haired girl, stopping the music. “We’re going to go by prom queen first, if that’s okay - the 1984 contestants for Hawkins High prom queen are...” You glanced across the gym, to Nancy, who grinned at you.
“Y/N L/N!”
You clapped your hand over your mouth, completely shocked. You’d been sort-of popular at Hawkins, but never like Nancy or Steve. This was... amazing.
Or it was, before Steve Harrington rushed in front of you and grabbed the DJ’s microphone.
“Hi,” said Steve, interrupting the music. “Hi, you may know me, I’m Steve Harrington-” The crowd whoops.
“Yeah, but the thing is, that doesn’t matter - this whole prom thing, man, it’s just... a social obligation that nobody really cares about, and it’s so fake-”
“Get off the stage!” someone shouted, and you were eighty percent sure it was your best friend Robin.
“And if you care about this,” Steve finished, “You’re fake, too.”
He looked directly at you, and the red-haired girl reclaimed the mic, shoving him off.
“Anyway,” she said. “This has a special kind of irony now, but - the 1984 Hawkins High Prom King is Steve Harrington.” You cheered louder than anyone, and Billy, ever-so-talented at pretending to be a gentleman, walked you up to the stage.
“Nice job, Harrington,” you muttered.
“Hey, don’t look at me. I’m not the one who showed up with Hargrove.” You groaned, trying to smile as the crowns were placed on your heads.
“And now,” said the red-haired girl, reading off a cue card, “the prom king and queen have the first slow dance.”
Steve offered his hand to you, almost jokingly, and you were tempted to smack it away. Instead, you exhaled, trying to conceal how in pain you truly were.
“I wanted to come with you,” you admitted, swaying, and he spun you. “We were friends - I tried to ask.”
“There’s gotta be some in-between between me and Hargrove.”
"Maybe there isn’t,” you shout-whispered, as the dance ended. “Maybe I just wanted you.” There, you’d said it. You'd well and truly embarrassed yourself in front of the King of Hawkins High.
You ripped your hand from his grasp, and tore out into the parking lot.
“Y/N!” he shouted, far away from the mirrorballs and music. “Y/N, come back-”
“No,” you said, fumbling for the keys to your car. “No, I’m done, Steve. I don’t want to be your friend if it means I’m the person you expect to wait for you until you need me there.” “I don’t want to be your friend, either.”
Your breath caught in your throat, and you turned around.
“I love you, Y/N. I really, really do. And, any place you’re going... that’s where I’m gonna be. I get it if you don’t feel it - if you don’t love me, too. But I had to say it.” He turned, and you grabbed his wrist, turning him back to you.
“Kiss me good-night,” you said, finally, “Or you’re going to regret it for the rest of your life.”
Steve kissed you, softly.
“Good-night,” you whispered. He opened the car door for you, and you climbed in.
“Hey, you want to get pizza?” “Me?” “Yes, you, Harrington - it’s prom night. Can’t be home too early. Unless... King Steve’s too cool for pizza?”
“Oh, no,” Steve grinned, getting in on the other side. “No, he’s definitely not.”

if i could go back
i’ve been telling you guys i am incapable of writing anything without angst so... enjoy
Pairing: Y/N and Harry
Warnings: angst lol, happy ending tho
Summary: Y/N caught feelings for Harry, who was already in love with someone else.
~~~~~~~~~~
Y/N groaned at the blaring sound of an alarm, reaching over towards her nightstand to grab her phone. In the process, a body shifted beside her and she realized she wasn’t alone. Sitting up, she looked at the person next to her and the memories from last night seemed to drown her.
“Mm, hello?” Harry’s deep morning voice grumbled to the caller who dared wake him up on a Saturday morning. Y/N grabbed the covers and wrapped it around her to cover her nakedness, and she felt a little embarrassed.
Y/N couldn’t wrap her head around the fact she actually slept with one of her good friends. She was always adamant of never crossing that line with him, but somehow it happened and she basked in the memories of last night. He was so sweet and good to her, like how she imagined he would be, and honestly her imagination didn’t do him justice.
“You okay?” Harry’s voice turned concerned and Y/N tilted her head slightly in curiosity of who was calling Harry at--she tapped her phone screen and it lit up bright in front of her--nine in the morning.
“Don’t cry, baby, don’t cry. I’ll come over now, yeah? You’ll be okay.” The words rushed out of Harry and before you had a chance to process it, Harry was turning to you.
“Hey, Y/N, there’s an emergency.. I think you should go.” Y/N blinked in confusion, this was not how she was expecting things to go when she woke up.
“Is everything alright?”
“Yeah, it’s just Daisy. Her boyfriend just broke up with her and she needs me right now.” Of course it was Daisy, and as long as she was in the picture, Y/N would never mean anything more than a friend to him. That’s been how it was for as long as she knew him. He was wrapped tightly around Daisy’s finger. She couldn’t help but feel jealous of her, Harry was so in love with her but she just wouldn’t see it. If only Harry felt like that around her, Y/N thought.
“But.. last night?” He looked down at her beside him, pity gracing his features.
“It meant nothing.” Y/N sighed, embarrassed and full of shame. She shouldn’t have done this.
“I’m sorry..” Harry reached out to grab her hand as she gathered her dignity and got of his bed, grabbing her items and stepping into her clothes.
“Save it, Harry. I can’t believe after everything she’s put you through you’d still walk through hell for her. You’re only hurting yourself, I hope one day you’ll see that. But I won’t stand by you through it.”
She raced out of Harry’s bedroom, Harry following behind her trying to explain himself, but Y/N wasn’t having any of it, not when Daisy still had his heart.
“Call me when you get your shit together.” She turned towards him one last time, regarding him with a look that was full of anger and heartbreak.
“Don’t do this, Y/N. Please..” Harry was torn between saving his friendship with Y/N and going to see the girl he was in love with, but he didn’t need to decide because Y/N decided for him.
Y/N exited his front door, and in that moment they didn’t know it would hurt them more than they expected it to.
~~~
A few months passed, Harry tried every possible way to get Y/N to talk to him, but she wouldn’t have it, not when he was still under Daisy’s influence and being stupid. She cut off most contact with Harry’s friends, only because she didn’t want to break and ask how he was doing. She already got enough of it through social media.
Y/N was a stylist, and she worked herself up, booking celebrity clients left and right and eventually became good friends with a few of them. She liked her new life without Harry in it, but that’s the thing. She didn’t love it, she missed him deeply, but she wouldn’t succumb to his charms. She still had that one night burned into the back of her mind.
“Are you going to Max’s party tonight?” Y/N turned to her assistant, Emily.
“I’m not sure, I’ll probably just leave after I get him ready.” Max Graham was a good friend and client, he was a big producer and would occasionally host big parties. She rarely attends, even though he always begs her to stay and mingle. She just doesn’t want to risk seeing him again.
“Why don’t you stay? I heard some big celebs are gonna be there. Maybe you can book Rihanna or Ariana Grande.”
“You already know Grande’s stylist is my friend, I’m not stealing her away. Although, the thought is tempting..” Emily giggled at her boss and continued putting together some outfits on her iPad.
“Just stay this time please! If you get bored I’ll leave with you and order you some take out.” Y/N thought about it, he most likely won’t be there, he never used to attend these parties. She thought one night wouldn’t hurt. Also, why was she letting him still have control over her life? She could go to a party that she wants to go to, whether he was going to be there or not. It was her life, her choice.
“Fine, but you’re treating for lunch on Monday.” Emily rolls her eyes but nods anyway, excited her boss was finally going to enjoy herself at a party.
~~~
“Y/N, my darling angel!” Y/N giggled at her friend and client and bowed down exaggeratedly.
“Hello, good sir. I come bearing gifts.” Y/N stepped aside and the clothing racks full of designer clothes held in plastic coverings was pushed in.
“What look are you going for today, Max?” She came up behind him and rested her hands on his shoulders, holding his stare in the opulent mirror in front of them.
“Surprise me.” He boldly said, a sly smile on his lips.
Y/N was excited. She loved dressing people up, she’s always had a knack for fashion and it was great that she enjoyed it as well.
“Emily!” Y/N called, needing the help of her assistant.
“Could you grab that new belt, I think it’s in the trunk.” She asked her while unzipping the bags she knew would look super well on Max.
“Yup, be right back.” Emily walked away and Y/N held the two articles of clothing together, trying to picture it on her client and she shook her head, discarding the top she picked and plucked another from the rack.
“Aha..” She whispered, grinning in excitement.
“I have found the perfect outfit for you. You will love it!”
Max turned around to grin at her, he loved the outfits Y/N dressed him up in. He was truly fond of his stylist, she was so caring and he knew she had been hurt in the past. He could tell from the way her eyes dimmed sometimes, looking to be in another world with a frown on her face.
He wanted her to have fun, and if there was one thing about Max’s grand parties, it was that you had fun. He prided himself on ordering the best hor’dourves for his guests and the best djs.
“I hope you’re coming tonight?” He basically pleaded with her, giving her his puppy dog eyes. She always said no, though. She didn’t like going to big parties, but he didn’t know why.
He was prepared for her to decline his invitation, but Emily approached and answered for her.
“I got her to come tonight, you can thank me now, by the way.” She grinned at both Max and Y/N, and all Y/N did was roll her eyes at her perky assistant.
Max gasped over dramatically, turning his head to face Y/N.
“I’ve got a ton of people to introduce to you, my dear. Prepare yourself.”
Y/N laughed at her friend’s dramatic antics and switched the topic to the matter at hand.
“Alright.. I was thinking some stripes.”
~~~
Y/N decided to head back to her apartment really quick to change and get dolled up. She wanted to look good, not for anybody but herself. It’s been a while since she went to a party... the last time was definitely pre-Harry.
She swung by Emily’s apartment to pick her up, before heading to Max’s. His mansion was lit up with pretty colorful lights and multiple cars parked in his long round driveway. She and Emily greeted the valet and prepped herself mentally before heading inside.
She’s gotta give it to Max, this looked like a great party. Everyone was mingling and the atmosphere was nice, she decided she would have a good time, even if she had to force herself.
She caught the eye of the host and he quickly went up to her and greeted her with two cheek kisses and she praised his outfit.
“You look amazing, your outfit is to die for, who’s your stylist?” Max rolled his eyes at Y/N’s teasing and pulled Y/N and Emily along with him. He was giddy she finally made it and he wanted to show her off to a few major celebrities he had invited.
“Darlings, you both look absolutely stunning.” Max complimented them both and Y/N blushed, looking down at the short dress she wore. The little black dress with glitter sparkled under the twinkling lights above her. She hadn’t dressed like this in a few months and she missed it.
Max guided them to a few celebs, even getting to meet the Jonas Brothers who she was a big fan of when she was younger. She mingled with them and got into a deep conversation with Zendaya. She laughed and drank and danced, it was overall a fun time.
Until Max led her to a familiar figure. His back was turned to her in an all cream suit. She spotted Jeff first in front of him, who had a full view of the incoming people. She watched as his eyes saw her and they widened, pausing mid speech which made Harry confused.
Y/N wanted to run, she wanted to leave and forget she had ever saw him here. What the hell was he doing here in the first place?! The one time she had decided to have a good night and have fun he had to be there to ruin it.
Max held her hand and pulled her along as her feet reluctantly took the steps to their destination. Her mind was blank but then he turned around, and it was like everything she tried to repress came out again.
The feelings- the hurt, the pain, and the love? He was surprised to see her, that she could tell. His hand reached out to her and she watched as he pulled it back.
“Gentlemen! I’d like you to meet my beautiful and amazing stylist, Y/N Y/L/N!”
Silence. Jeff was the first to break it.
“Hi, Y/N. You look great! How are you?” He leaned forward to hug her and she reluctantly hugged him back.
“Jeff, hi. Yeah, I’ve been good, how are you? How’s Glenne?” They pulled back and Max clapped.
“You already know each other? Perfect! Y/N, do you know Harry?” She blanched, she hadn’t meant to, she just wasn’t ready to confront her feelings with Harry. She thought she could get away with never seeing him again but she should’ve known that in this industry, probably not.
“Yeah, uh, we met a year ago. Hi, love.” Then Harry had to give her that smile, that damn pantydropping smile. That damn handsome smile that made his eyes sparkle.
“Harry.” It was a whispered breath, taking him in. She missed him. They were friends, very good friends, before she caught feelings. And she missed him and their times together. But then the thought bulldozed into her mind. The reason she left him and everything about him behind- Daisy.
She assumed she was still in his life. And as long she was there, Y/N wouldn’t be.
The thought made her turn cold and rigid.
“Nice to see you again.” She smiled politely, turning her head to Max and seeing Emily wave to her to come in the background.
“Emily’s calling me over, bye guys.” She did a little wave and hurriedly walked over to Emily. She passed by Jay-Z and Travis Scott and she couldn’t believe she was in the presence of some big names.
“Girl, I just met Beyoncé. I died inside!” Y/N laughed at her assistant and they walked together to the bar.
“Should I introduce myself to Shawn Mendes?” Emily was a fan of him, and they were the same age so Y/N told her to go for it. But in all honesty she didn’t want to be left alone. Not while he was in the vicinity.
They grabbed their drinks and Y/N played with her straw while she watched Emily strut over to Shawn. Emily flipped her hair and turned her head back to look at Y/N, where she just gave her a thumbs up and a wink.
She took a deep breath in and let it out, shrieking and jumping a little in shock when the man she was hoping to avoid appeared beside her.
“Shit! You scared the shit out of me.” She clutched her chest and tried to calm herself from the fright.
“What are you doing here?” She mumbled, when she was around him now her confidence dropped and she became a nervous mess. She hated that. She hated he had so much control over her still.
“I miss you.” It was a simple statement, but her heart fluttered when he uttered those words.
Y/N looked away.
When enough seconds passed and Harry knew he wouldn’t be getting any response to what he said, he took a different approach.
“Dance with me.” Y/N laughed, startled by his request.
“Huh?” She was confused, they hadn’t talked in months and the first thing he wants to do was tell her he misses her and to dance with him.
“I’m not doing that.” She was being cold and callous but that’s how she did things. This was how she hid and masked the hurt. It was better that way, she thought.
“Y/N..” He uttered her name, she missed it. She missed him so much. But it also made her angry. If he wasn’t so far up Daisy’s ass, maybe they could’ve still been friends. Maybe they could’ve been something more. But Y/N was naive to think that they could’ve been. He wasn’t obligated to love her just because she loved him, no, it was her own fault for falling in love with her friend who was already in love with someone else.
“You can’t just do this, Harry! I cut off contact with you for a fucking reason. Can’t you take a hint?” He seemed hurt by her words, and she wanted to apologize but the words died in her throat.
“Just a conversation, lovie. Just tell me how you are.” She scoffed before thinking about it. He could tell she was weighing her options and the pros and cons so he decided to help a little.
“After, you can decide if you never wanna talk to me again. I’ll never bother you again, never contact you. You’ll be free of me.” That caught Y/N’s attention. That’s what she wanted, right?
“Alright..” He softly smiled at her before guiding her away from the loudness of the party.
“I’m so, so proud of you, lovie. You’ve made a name for yourself. I’ve heard people rave about you. Made me jealous how they got to see you and spend time with you and I didn’t.”
Y/N sighed. “Distancing myself from you was the only way I could cope. Truth be told, Harry, I really liked you. I mean.. it must’ve been obvious that morning. Seeing you hooked on Daisy just hurt me a little. It’s okay now, though.”
He stopped walking, turning to fully face Y/N. There was a light glow from the tennis court lights but otherwise they were wrapped in darkness.
“I’m so sorry I didn’t see it sooner. I’m so sorry I didn’t recognize your feelings, and I’m so sorry for making you feel like shit that morning. If I could redo that morning, I would’ve ignored the call, no, no. I would’ve answered and told her to fuck off, I would’ve woken you up with so many kisses all over your face and body. We would’ve made love that morning and I would’ve confessed my feelings, and all this pain and hurt could’ve been avoided. But that didn’t happen, and all I could say now is that I love you. And if you’ll give me another chance, I swear I’d never hurt you again.”
Y/N inhaled deeply at his confession. It was full of conviction and truth. Her eyes welled up and she couldn’t stop yourself from full on sobbing.
“Oh baby, no, don’t cry!” He wrapped his arms around her, which made her cry just a little harder.
Harry thought he was too late, thought he made her so sad with his words that she would never want anything to do with him anymore, and that broke his heart into pieces.
“God, I just- I just never thought I’d ever hear those words.” She giggled while crying.
When Y/N had left that morning, he was hurt, but he had to see Daisy. He had went to her house, and he had convinced himself that he loved her. When she opened the door, her boyfriend was wrapped around her, and she dismissed Harry rudely. And then Harry thought long and hard. He had Y/N, the sweetest most caring girl, and he had chose Daisy over her? The one who had always used Harry as her backup when her boyfriend would grow tired of her. Y/N had always been there for Harry, had been there to hold his hand when the going got tough. He went home to wallow in his thoughts and really only fully came to his senses when Gemma whacked some sense into his brain. He realized he didn’t deserve Y/N, but it didn’t stop Harry from trying to contact her. She ignored every call, every text, and then eventually blocked his number. He’s ask his friends how she was and they’d say she was doing good, gave some vague details about her life but that was it. He missed her so fucking much and now that she was in front of him, he would never let her go.
“These are happy tears. Do you, do you mean it?” Harry was carefully wiping the tears streaming down her face, leaning forward to press his lips to her cute nose.
“Of course, I meant every word. I love you so much and I hate that it took me so long to see it.” He wrapped his arms around Y/N and she hesitantly hugged him back and instantly sighed in relief. How she missed this.
“I love you too.” She smiled and initiated the kiss between them, the first kiss since that night. It was passionate, they kissed deeply and smiled happily into the kiss. Y/N pulled back a bit but Harry followed, pressing multiple kisses to her lips. She laughed and swatted him away.
“Wait.. that was the cutest thing ever!” She heard her friend’s voice and the sound of someone being hit, followed by a groan and a whine. Harry and Y/N both looked at the two people hiding behind a rose bush.
“Really?” Y/N groaned, embarrassed of her friends spying on their intimate and personal conversation.
They popped out, both appearing drunk as hell. Harry laughed at their appearances and wrapped his arm around Y/N’s waist, while Y/N tucked her head into his chest.
“Can y’all make some babies? They would look so adorable!!”
“Max!” Y/N scolded, cheeks heating up at his words.
“I’m down if you are?” Harry suggested, winking down at her. She rolled her eyes at her man, pulling him down for a deep kiss, her friends cheering her on in the background.

Miraculous Lemonade (Song Fic)
I love the movie Lemonade Mouth and thought that the favoritism shown to the athletes over everyone else on the movie was similar to the favoritism shown to those with high-ranking parents in Miraculous Ladybug. So, an idea instantly formed in my mind. Includes my original characters Lyon and Vallia Garden.

*****
Adrien sat in the park outside of the Dupain-Cheng Bakery, eating with is two friends from Greece, Lyon and Vallia Garden. The two were doing an exchange program that helped students from other countries experience other cultures. They spoke fluent French, so they came to Paris. Adrien met them years ago when his family went to a charity fashion show that was held at the animal and nature sanctuary that Lyon and Vallia’s family owned.
The three may be a “little” annoyed with what had just happened at school. Lila “Liar” Rossi had framed Marinette for cheating, assault, and theft. Adrien made, what he called, a “deal with the devil” to get Marinette back in school. But it seemed that after her first few days back, Marinette’s parents decided it was better for her to go to an arts school instead of Dupont.
What infuriated the trio the most was that the school made no effort to investigate any of Lila’s accusations. There was no checking the security footage, no dusting for fingerprints, not even any hearing of Marinette’s side of the story. They simply took Lila at her word and some easily framed evidence to expel the best student at Dupont. It made them all furious.
“You know the favoritism shown at your school is appalling, right,” Vallia raised an eyebrow as she looked at her friend.
Adrien sighed. “I know, I know. But what could I do about it? I’m the son of a fashion designer, not a politician like Chloe.”
“That brat’s a part of the problem, anyway,” Lyon scoffed. “The entire school was punished and she is the only one that gets out of it? I’ve seen less corrupt politicians in Gotham, and that says something.”
“I know people criticize me for being Chloe’s friend, but would you two give up a friend that you’ve had since you were a kid,” Adrien asked them.
“Honestly, no,” Vallia said. “We get how you feel, Adrien, but one day Chloe will do something unforgivable and you will have to choose between her and your other friends.”
“I think I chose a while ago but just didn’t want to admit it,” Adrien says. “Chloe had her chance to be a better person when she was Queen Bee. But even after getting to be a hero, she still got her father, Sabrina, and Aurore akumatized.”
“Is there anyone she hasn’t akumatized,” Lyon crossed his arms.
“Out of all our class, only Marinette and I have not been akumatized,” Adrien says. “And for everyone that has, only Max, Nino, and Lila were not akumatized by her.”
“Well, Lila being akumatized was probably her own fault anyway,” Lyon shrugged. “She lies with every breath she takes and one of them probably bit her in the butt at one time or another.”
“Oh, I didn’t tell you guys yet, have I,” Adrien thought he had told them already.
“Told us what,” Vallia asked.
“You two were not here when she had her real first day,” Adrien tells them. “Lila lied on Alya’s blog about being Ladybug’s best friend. She had met me after school and tried to lie about not only being the descendant of a hero but also being the holder of the fox miraculous.”
“Seriously,” Lyon raised an eyebrow. “She was actually that stupid? Why not just put up a giant light-up sign that says ‘Hawkmoth, come and attack me,’ with her address written in neon.”
“If she hasn’t been targeted, Hawkmoth probably knows that she’s a liar,” Vallia said.
Adrien nodded. “During our conversation, Ladybug herself showed up. She probably saw Lila’s interview because she immediately called Lila out for her lies. Ladybug obviously hates liars as much as Marinette. Lila ran away and the next thing I know, she is breaking into my house while akumatized as Volpina and once again claiming to be a hero.”
“So that’s how you know she’s a liar,” Vallia understood now. “But why didn’t you tell anyone?”
“Because at the time she was only lying to get attention and friends,” Adrien said. “Have you seen my class, we’re all special in a lot of ways. Alya runs the most popular blog in Paris. Nino gets a lot of attention as a DJ. Juleka, Rose, and Ivan are members of a band that has been getting a lot of attention lately. Rose is friends with Prince Ali. Chloe is the mayor’s daughter. I am a model and the face of my dad’s brand. Even Marinette knows Jagged Stone, Clara Nightingale, and has impressed my father and Chloe’s Style Queen of a mother with her designs. Compared to all of us, Lila’s lies are not that unbelievable.”
Vallia and Lyon actually see where he was coming from. Being surrounded by people her own age and yet they have accomplished so much, it made sense why Lila would want to lie about herself like that.
“But then she took things too far, right,” Lyon asked his friend.
Adrien nodded. “Once she came back from her, so called, trip to Achu, she started using her lies to manipulate the class, which you guys have seen. She lied about having tinnitus so she could sit next to me, lied about having a sprained wrist to get Kim to carry her lunch tray, she even lied about having an allergy to tomatoes to make Rose take them out of her salad for her.”
“Isn’t that why she was akumatized into Chameleon,” Vallia remembered Adrien telling them. “You told her to stop lying.”
“Yeah,” Adrien said. “When she suddenly left for her ‘trip,’ I saw no reason to humiliate her by telling people about Ladybug calling her out. Plus, it’s not like they had any reason to believe me since none of them ever believed Marinette when she told them that Lila is a liar.”
“And it does not help that no one in school ever tries to actually fact-check her stories,” Lyon rolled his eyes.
“It’s not like it’s hard, either,” Vallia agreed with her brother. “Jagged Stone published his autobiography three months ago. There is no mention of a cat, a plane crash, or anyone named Lila in the entire book. It even specifically says that he had Fang, his crocodile, since he was twenty. That is fifteen years that he has had him.”
“I know, I know, my school is full of the most gullible people in Paris,” Adrien sighed. “And now that Marinette is gone, it seems like Chloe and Lila have teamed up and are ruling the school with iron fists. I can barely get a minute without one of them hanging off my arm.”
“And it’s not like any of the teachers or Damocles are doing anything,” Lyon says. “I’ve seen you, ask, request, and even demand for them to let go of you and they never do. You’ve even done it in front if some teachers and none of them ever did anything.”
“It’s the daughter of the mayor and the daughter of a diplomat,” Vallia sighed. “They will, most likely, never do anything. Even if it involves the son of a rich fashion designer.”
“It’s not like we can do anything about it,” Adrien sounded defeated. “Damocles is too afraid of losing money from the mayor and it’s not like Chloe and Lila are ever going to change.”
He was rubbing his very sore and bruised upper right arm, which Lila had been holding onto very tightly for most of the school day. And he knew that he would also probably have to deal with more of her harassment at the next photoshoot that he has with her.
“But... can even Damocles deny change when the entire school is rallied against him and those like him,” Lyon smirked.
“Oh, I know what you’re thinking, Lyon, and I am in total agreement,” Vallia brightly smiled.
“Uh... mind cluing me in, guys,” Adrien was completely lost.
“Well, you know that Lyon and I are friends with Clara Nightingale,” Vallia started.
Adrien nodded. When the pop star had come to Paris to shoot her “Miraculous” music video, she had basically tackled the twins when she saw them. Apparently, she had met them years ago when she did a charity concert at their family sanctuary and even now treated the two like they were younger siblings to her.
“Clara had told us the reason why she started performing in the first place,” Lyon continued for his sister. “When she was our age, she attended a high school that focused entirely on athletics and nothing else. To the point where all other extracurriculars were pushed into the basement with no budget for any of them. So she used her music to spread the massage of what was happening. She wound up getting a sponsor for the music program that built an entire auditorium for her school even when the principal tried to deny it.”
“So, she basically started a music revolution,” Adrien summed up.
“Exactly,” Vallia says. “We can do the same here. Use music to show that not everyone tolerates the favoritism. It should prove more of a problem since all three of us are rich but also see it as a problem.”
“We should probably also add those that are not like us,” Adrien says. “Kitty Section could help, plus Luka and Juleka are not under Lila’s spell.”
“But Rose and Ivan are,” Lyon reminded. “Without them, we would not have a drummer or a singer. Vallia and I can sing, but neither of us play the drums. I’m classically trained on the violin and Vallia doesn’t play any instrument.”
“Kim plays the drums,” Vallia said. “And when Lila got Marinette expelled, he snapped out of her spell.”
“Guess we have our plan,” Adrien says.
“We’ll talk with Nathaniel and Marc,” Lyon said. “They can spread it to the rest of the school and we will soon have as much support as we will need before we perform and get the Board of Education involved.”
“But what about your father, Adrien,” Vallia was worried about her friend’s ‘stick-in-the-mud’ of a parent. “He would never agree with you being a part of any type of revolution.”
“Well, my father will just have to deal with it,” Adrien shrugged. “Plus, I can always spin it to make it look good for the brand when my fans see it as me trying to help those that are neglected because they are not rich.”
The twins smirked as they walked off to get their friends in on their plan.
*****
Luka and Juleka were more than happy to use music to change Dupont for the better. Luka went to an arts school, but Juleka wanted a normal school and she was currently regretting her choice. Kim was also very glad to finally be able to show that he was more than just a jock and that he was about more than just dares and jokes. Seeing the bruises that Lila and Chloe had been leaving on Adrien’s arms just motivated them even more.
They decided to give their performance at a school dance that was coming soon. The entire school would be there. And when they talked to Marc, his class’s president Aurore contacted the Board of Education and they were going to send a few members to check out the problem.
“You guys ready,” Luka asked them as he picked up his guitar.
“Ready as we will ever be,” Juleka answers.
“I’m just glad to finally be able to stick it to the man,” Kim grins brightly.
“The song you guys chose is certainly a good one,” Adrien looks at Lyon and Vallia.
“What can we say, we love American Disney movies,” Vallia smirked. “Makes us glad that we’re fluent in english.”
The dance got dark, allowing them to get onto the stage that was set up for them. They had convinced Damocles to let them perform, saying they had an important message to give out with their music. Since three of the performers were rich, he let them. It did not go unnoticed how he had rejected Kitty Section when they had wanted to perform at the last dance even when they had told him the same thing.
Adrien stood behind the keyboard as Kim sat at the drums while Juleka picked up her bass and Luka stood with his guitar. Lyon was taking the lead singing position while Vallia was back-up vocals and running their “special” effects. They all had their own mics for them they took turns singing their verses. They were going to get their message out whether people at Dupont wanted it to or not.
Adrien was just glad he managed to avoid both Lila and Chloe since there was no way either of them would have let go of him and let him perform. But after this, he hoped to never have to deal with either of them ever again.
The music started, the spotlights shining down on them. Lyon took the lead and began.
Lyon- “Hear it getting louder, a call for revolution Yeah, we came for what was ours, it's time for restitution We'll protect our own, take back the stone No, human nature cannot hold us down.” Luka- “Stranded at the bottom, but we're more than a whisper No, we'll never be forgotten, our blood's thicker than silver, yeah When worlds collide, it's do or die So tell me, is it wrong to stand your ground?” Lyon+ Luka- “Hear us howl, all or nothing Fangs are out, we ain't running Hear us howl, it's all or nothing.” All six- “Oh oh oh oh This is a declaration Oh oh oh oh Of a new generation It's now or never, we're in this together We'll fight through the highs and the lows No, we won't break, we're more than flesh and bone.”
Lyon gave a wink to his sister and she started the real part of the show. With members of the board in the audience, this was going to force some changes to be made.
She pressed a button, images and videos started showing on the giant screen behind them. If they could see the board members, they would have seen some very furious faces.
All of the images were of destroyed property, bruises or scratches on people, and even of old things like the destroyed make-up bag that Chloe took a marker to. Then was the clear message when pictures of Lila and Chloe were shown with GUILTY under their pictures then with pictures of the school staff with DOES NOTHING under them.
Lila, Chloe, and Damocles were all white as ghosts.
Vallia- “The world has gone crazy and no one seems to listen Gotta step in, no more maybes, and stop the demolition Is it hope or fear? Look in the mirror Everything we built is coming down.” Juleka- “No more hesitation, it's time we start to realize With all this separation, silence is still taking sides So use your voice, make a choice And tell me, are you standing with the crowd?” All six- “Oh oh oh oh This is a declaration Oh oh oh oh Of a new generation It's now or never, we're in this together We'll fight through the highs and the lows No, we won't break, we're more than flesh and bone.” Then videos were played on the screen. The first were from the day that Marinette was expelled. It was footage from the school security cameras that they got when Markov, the ever helpful AI, hacked into them when the group asked for his help. He was more than happy to help slap some sense into Max.
It clearly showed Lila taking the test answers and putting them in Marinette’s bag. It also showed her fake falling down the stairs and placing her necklace into Marinette’s locker. The video moved on to showing all the times that her or Chloe would grab onto Adrien and would never let go no matter how many times he told them to. The video also showed it happening in front of teachers and they never did anything.
More videos showed Chloe bullying, destroying other art projects that were not her own, and even all the things she did that got most of the class akumatized when it happened on school grounds. They also got videos from Jagged Stone, Clara Nightingale, and every other celebrity that Lila lied about. All of them saying they had never met Lila in their lives. All six- “Ayy, ayy, ayy ayy We say no more bad blood, no more bad blood Ayy, ayy, ayy ayy No way, they can't stop us, no, they can't stop us Ayy, ayy, ayy ayy We say no more bad blood, no more bad blood Ayy, ayy, ayy ayy No way, they can't stop us, no, they can't stop us.”
More videos and photos identified every bully in the school. Each and every single one of them being rich, or have influential parents that Damocles was afraid of, or both. The other students all gathered near the stage, showing their support to the band and hardly anyone supporting the staff or the bullies. Alya was still speechless over Lila’s lies being revealed and what she had said to Marinette in “defense” of Lila. Sabrina was also pale as she remembered everything that Chloe ever made her do, like stealing Marinette’s diary and locking Juleka in the bathroom. Adrien- “History changes, but we lost the pages we wrote When you lose direction, can't see the reflection you know We came from the bottom then became the problem Now everything's out of control So hey, are you with me? Let's go!”
The students cheered and danced as the band all sang. They all knew that they were now going to finally be free of the bullies and liars that have been plaguing their lives for years. All six- “Oh oh oh oh This is a declaration Oh oh oh oh Of a new generation It's now or never, we're in this together We'll fight through the highs and the lows No, we won't break, we're more than flesh and bone.”
The band finished with a bang, staring down the staff with cold eyes that said that they regretted nothing. Everyone they stared as were about as pale as a person could be.
After the dance, the Board of Education members brought everything that they had learned and seen to the rest of the board. Actions were immediately taken over the weekend. There was an intense investigation into the school and every member of the staff. Not that surprising, but Mendeleiev was the only staff member that never did anything wrong but was constantly blocked from doing anything by the other staff members.
Damocles was revealed to have been using money granted to the school for things like locker upgrades and new textbooks for his Owl gear instead. Plus he was also found out to be taking many bribes from parents of the bullies to not only keep them from being punished but to also increase their grades if they were low. He was fired immediately.
Bustier also faces a lot of consequences. When the investigation was made known, dozens of her old students came forward. It was revealed that her methods have caused all of them pain. She had spent years coddling the bullies and punishing the victims. Many ended up in therapy while the bullies usually ended up in jail for mostly violent crimes. She had her teaching license revoked and was blacklisted from ever teaching again.
The rest of the staff were all suspended until they finished courses about how to deal with bullies, how to properly run a classroom, as well as all of them having to pay finds.
All of the bullies were either expelled or suspended, depending on how horrible they were. A lot of them were having to repeat the grade because of how much their parents had spent to keep their grades up while they did hardly any work.
Alya, while being sued for the lies she posted on her blog, did not do anything else beyond cyber bullying of Marinette. But that did get her another lawsuit from her former best friend’s parents as well as being suspended from school for a week. Her parents forced her to delete the Ladyblog.
Chloe and Lila were, of course, the worst of them all.
Chloe ended up expelled and it was found out that she was also banded from every private school in the city because of how well her bullying habits were known. Her father was also facing multiple accusations of abuse of power because of how he handled problems that his daughter caused. Chloe could also hardly ever leave the hotel without being sneered or yelled at by literally everyone in Paris.
Lila was not only expelled, but also had giant finds placed on her after she was arrested for her months of truancy. Every celebrity she had ever lied about was also suing her for slander, defamation, and libel. It was also revealed that her mother had taken away her diplomatic immunity once she had learned about all the lies that her daughter told her and everyone around her. Her reputation as a liar has spread all throughout France and she will never be able to use her schemes ever again. Her mother makes sure to inform all her future teachers and principals about her lying and bullying habits.
All while this is happening, the new band clinks their glasses together as they cheers for a job well done. And if Adrien also happens to be kissed by a certain Greek lead singer, that is just a bonus for him.

Rose and Juleka are best friends. And, as of late, lovers.
@critical-thinking-is-mandatory , You’re the reason I wrote the Marigami one and that one is the reason I wrote this so you’re getting tagged.
Juleka had always felt like a bit of a nothing, at least compared to the people around her. Her mother, the rule-breaking pirate with an affinity for rock music. Luka, her empathetic brother who immediately charmed most who met him through his mellow, understanding nature.
She valued herself more now, but she still didn’t feel like anything special most of the time. Not compared to her family, let alone her classmates.
Adrien, the literal model. Alix and Kim, the star athletes. Max, the all-around genius. Alya, the confident aspiring journalist. Marinette, the brilliant designer. Even her fellow quiet kid Nathaniel was a good artist. Mylene and Ivan were both dedicated enviornmentalists, and while they didn’t have incredible standout talent in the way their classmates did, their activism made them noteworthy. Nino enjoyed music and was quite good at re-arranging it to suit his needs and tastes, and was well-known in the school for being the go-to DJ. All of them were worth a passing glance at the very least.
Through no fault of their own, most of her classmates- most of her friends- made her feel utterly invisible.
And then there was Rose.
Rose, who by all accounts should have made her feel just as invisible, but didn’t. Rose, who was bright and cheerful, who was kind almost beyond measure. Rose, who was her dearest friend and as of late, lover.
They’d met the day Juleka had transferred into Rose’s fourth grade class. Juleka was, of course, far too nervous to make conversation with any of these strangers, and sat alone at lunch so she wouldn’t be expected to try.
It wasn’t that she truly wanted to be alone, but the prospect of social rejection was terrifying. Why should she even attempt it? It’s better if she was by herself.
These plans were cut short when a stranger in pink with a unicorn lunch box sat down and claimed the new student for herself.
Of course, Rose didn’t ever use the word “claim”, that sounded too possesive, but she may as well have.
Juleka never knew why she didn’t freeze up that day, or run off. But something about Rose, about the way she spoke or maybe something about her face, told Juleka that this was someone safe. Someone who would forgive her inadequacy.
And so, the two of them talked. And despite Juleka’s whispered, one-word answers, Rose never seemed to get bored of her. Not even after a few days, or weeks, or months.
It was hard to tell exactly when Juleka had fallen in love with her. But if asked, Juleka could give a million reasons why. Because Rose was so maddeningly cute. Because Rose was so passionate about helping others that she was willing to dedicate hours and hours of her time to helping a nervous wreck like Juleka come out of her shell. Because Rose made her feel seen, and safe, and appreciated.
Loved.
If it had been anyone else, it would have been almost impossible to confess her feelings. The nervousness would have been overwhelming. But in Rose’s room, surrounded by stuffed animals Juleka had made it a point to learn the names of, looking directly into Rose’s eyes? Those eyes that had told Juleka from minute one that Rose would always accept her, would never hurt her?
It was still nerve-wracking, but compared to what it could have been, it almost felt easy.
“Hey, Rose?”
“What is it? Are you alright? You look nervous.”
“...I like you. Like, romantically like you. A lot.”
“Oh! Is that all it was? I like you too, Juleka. I was going to write you a love letter, but I was worried Chloe would intercept me again... you know what, I’m gonna do it anyway.”
Rose did, in fact, write her that love letter. Juleka currently had it locked in a box, neatly folded up, with a pink rose painted on the box so she would never lose track of it. She did not intend on losing it, but she also didn’t want to carry it around day to day- that was practically begging for Chloe to grab it, at which point Hawkmoth would make it Juleka’s akumatized object and she’d have to deal with trauma interfering with the feelings of love and warmth the letter brought her.
Juleka, for her part, gave Rose at least five unicorn figurines in the time they dated. A delicate one made of purple glass seemed to be Rose’s favorite, and was given similar treatment to the way Juleka protected Rose’s love letter.
Anarka and Luka figured out Juleka and Rose were dating long before they made the official announcement. Upon telling the larger friend group, Juleka was shocked to discover that not only had most of their classmates suspected it, Alya went so far as to bet on it with an “unknown party” that everyone knew was probably Nino.
At this point, the only people in the class who didn’t know were Chloe and Sabrina, and that was just because nobody wanted to find out if they could add homophobia to the long, long list of Chloe’s despicable attributes. But besides those two exceptions, Juleka and Rose were effectively “out”.
They had their difficulties sometimes, but they’d made it several years of being best friends and really, besides the kissing, being girlfriends wasn’t much different. As far as Juleka was concerned, a little rough patch now and then was more than worth the best thing that had ever happened to her.
Juleka had always felt a little inadequate, and as much new self-worth as she’d picked up, she still felt like nothing much from time to time. Like a ghost. But Rose had recently advised her to try and see herself the way Rose saw her.
And to Rose, Juleka was far from invisible.

Miracle queen highlights
I'm Ukrainian (still can't believe my country even airs the new ML episodes) and since I don't think English dub still came out I'm gonna talk about some important moments and the ones I liked.
• The theme was that sometimes you don't get what you want, but the true beauty lies in life itself. Also that losses are a part of life but beautiful things happen too
• Marinette asked Luka to play his melody for her and he was like "are you sure you want to hear that... you still think of Adrien don't you?" and she looked so sad
• Adrien told Kagami he wasn't ready and that he imagined this moment differently. She asked if he was uncomfortable with her and he was like "n-no it's just..." and she said that his hesitation caused him pain
• the Ladynoir moment was the highlight of the whole episode. Ladybug told Chat about her mistake with Fu and called herself a failure and it went like this: "Ladybug don't focus on the bad stuff. You're the only one who can fix this". Then she hugs him and says "Thank you Chat... you're always there for me" and he says "Always, Ladybug"
• Chloe said some mean stuff about every miraculous holder, e.g. "nerdy Max, failed reporter (Alya), lame DJ (Nino)..." then about Kim "the first one without glasses, I thought it was a requirement for those she chose to wear glasses" and when it came to Luka she was like "this one is cute but dresses like garbage". Side note - no offense to the shippers if such exist but I hope they won't get together because Chloe is so toxic rn, I wouldn't want anyone to be in a relationship with her. I wanted her redemption as much as the next person so idk where the writers are even going with her. Then it came to Kagami and she was just like "ew god not her". Speaking of Luka, she called him useless later anyway when Chat took his miraculous
• Chloe was literally a total brat in this episode and it was so cringy, she kept yelling about how she's the best and the queen and she has to be the one to save the world. The writers seriously did her so wrong
• on a related notes kwamis told her to go screw herself and their exact words were "she doesn't even know our names or transformation phrases" and the goat kwami was like "how hard is it to say please" but Chloe kept throwing a fit
• After she got her miraculous taken away she yelled at Ladybug that she doesn't like her anymore and that she's going to New York because she doesn't even deserve to breathe the same air as her but Audrey decided to stay in Paris and Chloe was so pissed and called her parents disgusting and ordered them to start fighting again
• Fu made Marinette a guardian and because of that he lost memories (former guardians do because they're not supposed to know the identities of the holders when they refuse the miracle box)
• When Ladybug was having doubts in the middle of the fight she said she was the worst Ladybug ever and can't do anything right. But Fu said she's the best Ladybug he's ever met ;_; and that even if she made some mistakes everyone does, and the most important thing is fixing them and he has faith in her. It was so important for Marinette who always doubts herself. I'm gonna miss their bond
• When Fu saw his girlfriend he said "It's strange, I see you for the first time but it feels like I've known you for my whole life"
• Oh and Fu wrote Marinette a letter and there was something about growth (which is why I feel like there could be a time skip) and he said that if she's reading it he already lost his memories and is wishing her all the best
• Nathalie stole Fu's tablet and found some info on how to fix the peacock miraculous so apparently they fixed it
• Gabriel and Nathalie's dynamics was basically "I'm sorry it's happening to you, my Nathalie, but I still need to use your powers" "No worries, I'm fine and I'll do anything for you"
• the last scene was pretty self-explanatory, I guess (and I felt empty because I love Lukanette but they aren't going to last anyway ;_;)
• Update: I forgot to include one moment and it was ladynoir saying to hawk moth in the battle when he tried to instill doubt in them "It's us against the world as always" and Chat was like "Ladybug and I don't fight against each other, we fight alongside each other"

Chill Days
There’s one thing Nino was certain of. It was that when Marinette’s mad, it’s down right terrifying. He hasn’t been on the receiving end of it (thank God, wasn’t that a relief), but he had witnessed it enough times. He knew what signs to look for and what to avoid. Nino knows it’s been a while since she got angry (Kim really needed to control his mouth). The thing is, Marinette is the sweetest girl he knows. She would always go out of her way to help anyone, be there to encourage and give feed back, all in all, she’s a great person. And she’s nice. Even to people like Chloé, she’s hardly ever actually gotten really, truly, angry. When they say don’t piss off the nice people, it’s some pretty solid advice to live by. He felt it before seeing her.
The hairs on the back of his neck pricked up and the atmosphere was much colder than it was a few moments prior. Where there was a loud lull of chatter, it was replaced with a sudden silent that had his blood chilling. He locked gaze with Alya, and where as he was starting to feel dread, her eyes filled with confusion.
Ah, she’s never seen her angry.
He looked around the classroom and noticed how even Chloé was scooting away from the door. And when he glanced at Adrien, his eyebrows raised. The boy next to him didn’t seem to notice anything and he was busy doodling and giggling. But before he could voice out his thoughts, the door of the classroom opened.
It didn’t open with a bang - it wasn’t even loud, but the girl behind it made it seem so much more menacing. He averted his eyed quickly, but with the moment glance he saw had confirmed the scowl he knew would be there. Oh, God, who pissed her off?
Nino swears, a pin could be dropped and it would be heard clearly with just how quiet it was.
“Marinette! Good morning!”
Flinching from the sudden voice next to him, Nino shook his head, glancing at the boy as he put a finger on his lips. He knew Marinette had a soft spot for Adrien, but when she's mad, no one is safe. Even Adrien.
But it seemed like Adrien wasn’t getting the message. Instead of shutting up, like what a normal human being would do, he was basically bouncing in his seat and smirking. Whipping his head around, Nino was frowning until he caught where she was looking. And just froze. That heated glare he saw from afa  before was suddenly aimed in his direction. Immediately, thoughts of all the ways he could beg for forgiveness flash through his mind. Should he get down on his knees and beg? Get flowers? Chocolate? Maybe get her those fancy fabrics she likes so much? Maybe-
“Adrien.”
He stiffened, inching further away from where she stood. He’s never heard her speak so
coldly before. And looking at her more closely now, Nino let out a sigh of relief because the glare wasn’t actually towards him. He was beginning to relax now that he knew Marinette was staring next to him and not at him. That means he didn’t piss her off, which he never, ever, wanted to do in the first place. So the only person who could have-
Adrien.
Eyed widen in disbelief, the aspiring DJ stared at his deskmate. The boy had the audacity to look smug. What the hell could Adrien have done to piss Marinette off? And why isn’t he asking for forgiveness right now?
That’s it, this is Adrien’s funeral. It was nice knowing you, dude.
He watched how they held a stare off, Marinette and Adrien. The class president had a very blank faced expression, yet cold and fury filled eyes. Adrien,
God, why is he grinning, held her gaze and looked relaxed. Relaxed!
Marinette walked towards her desk and placed a hand on the model’s shoulder. That’s when Nino saw him finch and moved to the edge of the seat bench when she spoke.
“Can we talk during lunch?”
That definitely sounded like a demand and not a request. Nino saw the shiver run through Adrien’s body but the smile didn’t change. If anything, it actually got wider.
What was he doing? Adrien, abort! Abort!
Adrien nodded his head and gave the girl a loop-sided smile, one Nino has never seen on the boy before. The DJ was so utterly lost.
What has his best friend, the one and only Adrien Agreste, the literal sunshine boy of Paris for heaven sakes, do to piss of Marinette Dupain-Cheng?
The baker girl only stared at the model deadpanned, and he saw his smile flatter. Seeming to find this satisfying, she continued towards her seat. It was only then that Nino felt himself finally relax. Okay, everything will be okay and he’ll help Adrien apologize to the scary girl. He glanced at Alya and felt a pang of sympathy. The poor girl was staring at her best friend in utter shock (and a bit of fear if he was being honest) and was almost falling off her seat. He grabbed his phone as quietly as he could and sent her a quick text to catch her up with things. When she read it and nodded in understanding, he was glad to have one less things to worry about.
Nino knows the drill when this happens. Almost everyone did at this point (poor Max had to learn it the hard way, but Marinette made sure to apologize afterwards). Don’t talk unless absolutely necessary, like when a teacher called on them, and don’t make any noise. And when comes around lunch time, give her a shoulder massage. The only person Marinette spoke to during these times was himself.
Marinette snapped her eyes and locked gaze with him and Nino gave her a gentle smile.
“Nino, can you ask Alix and Kim to stop by the bakery during lunch and grab us some snacks?”
Nodding, he gave her two thumbs up. This was something else he knew was coming. It was his job to be the mediator between her and everyone else. When he looked over at the two mentioned peers, he saw them nod in understanding. Everyone had a role to play; Alix and Kim got pasteries, Max and Nathaniel would set up video games on the class projector, Juleka and Rose would grab candies from a nearby store, Ivan and Mylene would have blankets and pillows ready. Even Chloé had a role - she and Sabrina are in charge of catering food.
Don’t make the mistake, it isn’t just for Marinette. All the things were for the whole class. It was a way of saying sorry but at the same time, having the whole class get back to normal. Marinette’s anger usually only lasted until the beginning of lunch. And usually by the end of lunch, everything was back to normal. So Nino was able to smile more - this meant that everything should be resolved by lunch. Great. No biggy. Turning to Alya, Nino mentioned for him and her to switch seats. He saw the hesitation in her before moving her things and Nink gave her a quick kiss on the cheeks. I’ll explain later, it translated.
Now sitting next to her, he began to massage her shoulder gently. It’s not because she ever asked for it, but it always seemed to calm her down. And he very much would want a calm Marinette before his boy Adrien experiences her wrath.
“So, Mari, how was your weekend? Cause mine was absolutely pawsome.”
Pausing in his movements, Nino stared at the boy in front of him, slowly feeling the fear come back to him. He frantically shook his head and ‘shut up’, he mouthed. Even Alya was shushing him.
With an eerie calmness, Marinette lifted her head towards Adrien. “Excuse me?”
Adrien, he kept the silly grin on his face but Nino could see the anxiety start to creep in his eyes. And Marinette must have seen it too because she immediately relaxed. They continued their stare off and hesitantly, Nino started massaging her shoulders again. Almost like a miracle (an answered prayer?), whatever was silently going on between them was enough to have back away from her earlier anger. And Adrien, the whole dumbass he was, was now smiling differently. It was much more gentle and dare he say, affectionate.
And just like, the atmosphere cleared up and Marinette herself seemed to have the softness and sweetness return to her. She turned towards the boy next to her and gave him a quick hug, but Nino was too stunned to do much more than gape at her.
“Thanks Nino! And,” she turned and faced the rest of the class sheepishly. “sorry everyone. Do you guys still want to do the chill day stuff?”
Realizing he wasn’t the only one stunned by the turn of events, Nino saw everyone with various ranges of emotions but they all looked equally in disbelief. How could he blame them? Marinette’s nice and her anger was short lasted but it usually took until lunch for everything to cool down. And all it took was a look from Adrien for her to calm down.
What the fuck just happened?
“Dupain-Cheng, I’ve never seen you that angry before.” Chloé huffed, and it looked like she was trying her best not to seem as off put by the whole situation as the rest of the class. “I need chill day just to get over how stressed you made me, I thought you were actually gonna kill Adrien. Plus,” she stared at her nails. “food’s already been ordered.” The class snapped out of the daze they found themselves in, each one voicing out their complaints and relief. Nino watched the boy that caused all of this in the first place and noticed how relief was the first thing he register on his face. And he was still looking at Marinette with that soft gaze again. Nino was now desperate to know what happened but his fear of the anger coming back stopped it. Besides, she’ll call and rant later tonight anyways. For now, Nino was content with switching back to his original seat, chastising his best friend, and having the happy atmosphere return.

Her handsome boy, (Chapter 2)
Pairing: Adrienette, Ninya (in the background)
Words: 1,7 k
Warning(s): Swearing, cheeky mentioning of sex
Summary: Alya, Marinette, Nino and Adrien are seniors (18 y/o) and as Marinette, biker girl supreme, discovers Alya’s crush on the music-nerd Nino Lahiffe she starts to question if she also has a crush on a certain goody-two-shoes-boy.
A/N: I’m really sorry for the late update! School combined with exams and just life had me really stressed, I hope I’ll get to write more as school draws to an end. I’m also not really happy with this chapter, but I guess it’ll have to do.

Chapter 1
Tumblr media
Adrien Agreste was used to being stared at. He got stared at much more than other people. Especially after that underwear-ad he had done for his father. Yes, Adrien Agreste was very much used to stares, but not stares like these. In the beginning Adrien hadn’t noticed them, he had a bit too much on his mind to care, but now it was creeping him out.
He had gotten used to the awestruck faces, the grinning-madly-faces, the swooning faces and the jealousy faces (mostly on guys). But the second he walked out from the girls-bathroom he realized that the stares he now got was a mix between confused, smug and angry. Why were most of them angry? The boy wondered, keeping his head high as his father had taught him.
He was stopped in his tracks as someone grabbed his left shoulder. He was relieved as he heard a familiar voice.
“Dude, where have you been?” Nino popped up from behind his shoulder and grinned. “That was some big-ass lady drama, huh?” Adrien nodded, his heart slowing down a bit. He felt a bit more normal by Nino’s side.
The boy pulled his headphones off and shook his head. “She got some temper that Marinette girl, but to be fair, Chloe kind of deserved it.” Nino chuckled to himself and watched as Adrien again nodded absentmindedly. Nino looked around and frowned as he saw the people lined up by their lockers, giving Adrien the stinky eye.
“What’s up dude? Usually these folks adore you.” Adrien glanced at the angry girls and nodded slowly. “Yeah, I really don’t know.” He rubbed his neck and blushed as he remembered the last time he did just that.
With the frown still on his face, Nino looked Adrien over and a grin started to form. “Oh, well I do.” Nino said, laughing loudly. “Dude, why didn’t you tell me?”
Adrien looked confused at Nino. “Didn’t tell you what? I tell you everything.” Nino smirked and shook his head. “I can’t believe you’ve been hiding it from me, dude. I’m like your best bro!”
Adrien sighed loudly, he was getting more confused by the second. “Again Nino, I am not hiding anything!” Nino’s grin dropped for a second.
“There’s literally red lipstick on your face. I’m no genius, but I don’t really need to be.” He pointed at the blonde’s reddening cheek. Adrien rubbed his face, accidentally making the stain worse.
“What?! Where?!” He rubbed his cheeks furiously while trying to figure out when someone could have gotten lipstick on him. It could have been one of the models for the shoot this morning, but his makeup artists would flip so that’s-
“Marinette.” Nino turned back, realizing that Adrien had stopped in his tracks. “You okay man?” A ghost of a smile passed over Adrien’s lips.
“Marinette.” He whispered. Nino looked at Adrien with eyes big as plates.
“Marinette?” He asked after a tick of silence. The DJ looked around nervously, as if someone was about jump on them.
“Marinette, the girl that made Chloe cry in second grade? The one that shouted at a teacher for teaching us just one side of a war in eight grade? The one that beat Kim on the running tracks by whole seconds in ninth grade and smashed Max in Mega-Strike 3 in tenth grade? That Marinette?”
Nino heaved a breath and watched as Adrien grinned, shrugging. “I guess?” He answered, a blush creeping up his neck. “I just got to go to school Nino, I don’t know your childhood friends.”
Nino didn’t seem to hear the last sentences that left Adrien’s mouth. He was left staring at the green-eyed-idiot with his chin almost touching the ground. Adrien was talking, rambling about something, but Nino stopped him by lifting a hand.
“You banged **the **Marinette in school?! Just now?!”
Adrien choked on air. He was sure he was going to die. Right there on the floor of that blasted hallway. Yeah, just by that old gum. Not a very flattering death, but it would do. Anything to not live through the humiliation. Either he died here, or she heard about Nino’s comment from someone and then she would kill him. Slowly probably. She would never even think to sleep with him, and what wouldn’t she do to keep Adrien from even being near her perfect badass rumour?
He needed air. His lungs were not taking in any air. Why didn’t his lungs have access to any air again? Oh, right, he wasn’t breathing.
Adrien gasped for breath and put his hand out to lean on a nearby locker. Wow! Now he was making a scene. Just great. A younger girl looked at him weirdly as she walked by. Adrien smiled at her and waved her on. The girl lifted an unimpressed eyebrow but continued walking.
After a moment, Adrien turned to a wide-eyed Nino and managed to wheeze out the most pathetic form for a word he had ever heard.
“What?”
Nino looked like ha was about to explode. Of laughter. In the hallway. Adrien managed to send him a cold glare, but it only made Nino’s grin widen.
“I take that as a no?” He asked, a smug smirk now firmly planted on his face.
“Definitely a no! It was a kiss on the cheek!” Adrien laughed, desperately fanning his face. Nino patted his friend on the back and pushed his glasses up with a knuckle. It had slid down his nose while he was grinning so widely.
“Hey, it wasn’t just the cheek, have you seen your hair? And your shirt, it’s all crumbled!” Adrien glanced down at his appearance, frowning slightly. That had to be fixed. Reaching his locker, the blonde pulled out a mirror and pushed his hair back in the usual position.
“Nothing happened.” He stated, tugging at his shirt. “I gave her my shirt. She’d never be with me anyways.” The blonde scoffed and slammed his locker slightly, winching as some people turned at the sound. Nino rolled his eyes as he watched the antics of his so-called best friend. “Yeah. Because she’d just hate to go out with a fucking model.” Adrien nodded, a sad tint to the movement. He decided to let the matter go and glanced up at his friend with a smirk.
“Never mind that. You at least got to speak to your crush today.” Nino fidgeted with his headphones and grinned. “It wasn’t anything special. She wanted to borrow a pencil.” He looked around, trying to catch a glance of the auburn-haired beauty.
Adrien chuckled. “Sure, she talked to you for half an hour to borrow a pencil.” He said as he grabbed the door handle to the math classroom. Nino didn’t respond, instead his attention turned to the girls walking around the corner. Nino shook his head fondly. “We’re in deep shit dude.”
Yeah.”
Marinette was walking with a swing to her hips, Adrien couldn’t take his eyes off her. He thought his shirt fit her better than it had ever fit him. It was way to big to her of course, but she flaunted it like a queen. It hung low on her hips like a little dress, and Adrien, oh Adrien was melting. God he would love to wake up to her wearing that thing. She could take all his shirts for all he cared. He just knew that he would die if he never got to see this sight again.
Adrien groaned and tore his eyes away from the goddess. He really needed to get to class.
Math was the last class of the day, and the dullest one. He couldn’t help his thoughts when they flew towards that dark-haired girl. Adrien watched the clock as it ticked, silently praying for the bell to ring. When it did, he almost shouted in relief.
He grabbed Nino by his arm as a shout sounded in the hallway. The two boys hurried out the door to see what was going on.
A skinny boy was sprawled on the ground, his books and glasses scattered over the floor. “Shit.” The kid muttered, grasping his bruised elbow. Over him towered a figure Adrien had gotten used to. Chloe. The blonde laughed loudly, and Adrien sighed. Did she really have to be so mean? He walked over to the boy and asked if he was alright, helping him pick up his books. He could feel the cold glare from Chloe on his back, but she didn’t move to do anything.
The one who moved was Marinette. “How dare you?” She hissed. Adrien could feel the blazing fury rolling off her in heat waves. Adrien and Nino finished helping the boy, and backed off as girls started gathering on either the side of Marinette or Chloe. Adrien could see a pattern forming on the different sides. Many of the girls forming behind Marinette wore leather combined with something red. Chloe’s side was a colourful mix of pastel, high ponytails and stilettos.
“You’re the one who started the war, honey.” Chloe flipped her ponytail behind her shoulders and planted her hands on her hips. “Don’t tell me you’re this afraid of losing?”
Adrien could have sworn Marinette growled. “You have no right to touch Max.” Chloe laughed again, as if the mere suggestion humoured her. Marinette grabbed Max’s arm and dragged him to her side as she watched one of Chloe’s girls reach for him. “Stay on your side of the fucking school.”
Chloe’s jaws clenched, and her eyes were dark. The smirk she had been wearing dropped off her face in an instance. “You have no right to touch my Adrikins, but you did.”
Marinette spared a glance towards the blonde in the corner and a grin crept up on her face. “He didn’t seem to mind.”
Chloe shrieked and her face turned red with anger. “You have started a war Dupain, and you’re going to lose it!” Marinette laughed at that her outburst.
“I don’t start wars, Chloe.” Marinette spit the name out like venom. “I finish them.”
The norinette put her arm around Max’s shoulders and turned around. “Let’s go Max, I’ll get you home.”

Over the course of one summer, two boys will have to face their biggest fears and decide what they’re willing to risk — to get the thing they want the most. Cover image and summary via Goodreads

it’s only dark in the nighttime
The red light is back. The little colon between the 2 and the 0 on his clock incessantly blinking, taunting Steve. As if he doesn’t know that yes, it’s past 2 in the morning and yes, he’s still awake. It’s been like this most nights since he helped save the town, since an asshole beat his face in, since he exchanged his girlfriend for a gaggle of nerds.
Two weeks. He just wants to sleep.
But he’s distracted by the restless wiggling of his toes and the itch in his fingers, so he gives in and goes for a drive.
He has no destination in mind, but isn’t surprised when he finds himself on Maple Street. And then passing Dustin’s house. And even making his way down Cherry.
He’s just making sure they’re all right. That their parents’ cars are in the drive and the shades are drawn and the lights are out. That they’re hopefully wrapped up in their beds, fast asleep.
It makes him feel just a little better.
Sleep still won’t come, so Steve spends most nights on his midnight rounds. His heart would race in bed, but here he’s soothed by the steady motion of the car. The late-night DJs keep him company and the soft streetlights are calming. Not to mention the nicotine coursing through him with every cigarette. And yeah, maybe he should worry about that one someday but right now he’s just worried about tonight.
He feels useful for once. He likes it this way.
Steve begins to notice certain things, like how the Wheelers’ yard is perfectly tidy, the leaves always raked and the snow shoveled. The Henderson house is the opposite: the Halloween decorations are up until Thanksgiving and Dustin’s bike is always left in the middle of the yard. He’s witnessed a certain redhead climbing into one of the Sinclairs’ windows, but keeps quiet. The nights he spots her are often the same ones that he sees the blue Camaro in her driveway. Whatever makes her feel safe.
He even goes out to the Byers’ house most times, usually turning his lights off so he doesn’t wake them. He’d drive to Hopper’s cabin if he knew how to get there.
He doesn’t even try to be quiet when he finally returns home and collapses into bed. There’s usually no one around to hear anyway.
The long nights are starting to weigh on him and he knows that it’s showing. Even his winning smile can’t distract from the bags under his eyes or the fact that his hair is messier than ever.
But his parents barely see him and his teachers have never cared much for him and his baseball coach just shrugs when he decides not to play this season. Maybe he wasn’t so good after all.
The worst is the day that Nancy corners him outside school, in the little walkway that he’s always thought of as theirs, for better or worse.
“Are you okay?” The concern in her eyes is unbearable.
“Yeah, Nance. I’m fine.”
“Steve…” She raises an eyebrow, so perfectly Nancy of her.
“Are any of us okay?” He shrugs, letting out a humorless laugh.
She keeps staring at him but backs down. “You’re right. I’m here, y’know. If you need anything.”
“Don’t worry about it.”
And he ignores the tightening in his chest as she walks away. He may be pushing her away, but it’s for the best. She deserves to be with Jonathan. She deserves to be happy. He wasn’t able to do that. But the night patrols...that’s something he can do.
The problem is that after cutting things off with Tommy H. and Carol and the like, Nancy was really his only friend left. Besides some shithead kids who seem too young to understand him but have already seen too much.
He’s lonely. But it’s easier to be alone in the car at night than to be alone in a crowded hallway.
A few months pass before the first “incident,” as he takes to calling it. A misty night, on the edge of the woods, when he spots a light in the distance. Red and blinking slowly, like a lighthouse in the fog.
He pulls over to the side of the road and sticks his head out the window. “Hello? Anyone there?”
No answer comes and he feels a prickle of fear cross his neck. The whole thing seems too eerie to be just a lantern or flashlight. Something is wrong here.
But it’s probably just his imagination. He just needs to sleep.
Only two days pass until the second incident. He’s driving back on Mirkwood after having checked on the Byers’s house (dark and still, as it should be), when his headlights catch on something in the middle of the road. Something...floating? Steve slows to a stop only a few yards away and his heart freezes. It’s a body. As he opens the door, he looks up to the sky, half expecting to see a UFO. But there’s nothing. Not even the moon or stars.
The forest seems unnaturally silent and he gets that same feeling along the back of his neck, but he makes himself walk up to the body. It’s a girl, unconscious (or worse), in a simple t-shirt and jeans, sandy hair floating around her like she’s underwater. He’s reaching out a trembling hand when she begins to fade. His fingers only just catch her elbow before she disappears. He feels nothing, only air.
A ghost?
He’s interrupted from his thoughts by a strangled noise and barely jumps out of the way as a deer sprints into the road. It trips over its own hooves and collapses in a heap in the ditch.
What the hell is going on?
This might be more than his imagination.
Steve makes the mistake of mentioning the second incident to Dustin, who immediately decides that the Party needs to step in and assist. No amount of arguing can change the boy’s mind and honestly, Steve is just too damn tired to.
That Friday night he parks down the block from the Hendersons’ house and watches as the not-so-stealthy group of young teens approaches the car. He rolls his eyes. This is gonna be real fun.
With the exception of Will (who worries about sneaking out on his mom), the entire Party shows up, with backpacks of supplies and makeshift weapons.
Is Mike holding a slide rule?
Dustin opens the passenger door and Steve raises his hand, pointing to the backseat.
“Nuh-uh, El rides shotgun. Get in the back.”
“What?” The boy pouts.
“She’s our best fighter.”
Dustin groans but does as he’s told. As Eleven slips into the front seat, Steve adds, “Plus, I don’t need you sitting on your boyfriend’s lap.”
Mike sputters and his red face is visible even in the dim light. “Yeah, well, what about Max and Lucas?”
Steve flicks his eyes up to the rearview mirror and finds the redhead sitting chastely next to Lucas. “Max, is your dad the chief of police?”
“Nope,” she replies, making sure to add a pop at the end.
“Well there you go. Sorry, Wheeler.”
Truthfully, Steve wants Eleven up front because she’s the calmest of the bunch and he’s feeling a little unsettled about bringing the kids with him tonight. But he can never pass up a chance to tease Mike. El has always been a little clairvoyant and knows that Steve means well. Plus, she always likes being included.
Barely any time passes before he starts regretting bringing them along. For one thing, they won’t shut up. By the time they reach the forest, they’ve had him run through the story three times.
“Okay, let’s go over this again. Where did you see the body?”
“Mirkwood, it’s all been happening on Mirkwood.”
“He told us that already, dipshit.”
“Shut up!”
“I swear to God if you little shits don’t shut up, I’m leaving you out here.”
“Okay, okay.”
“He means it.”
“Wow El, just take his side, I see how it is.”
“The power of shotgun’s gone right to her head.”
“Shut up!”
“Goddamn it’s foggy out here.”
“Watch out!”
Steve slams on the brakes and everyone braces themselves. When they look up there’s a girl standing on the edge of the road.
Steve gulps. “Holy shit. That’s her.”
Everyone scrambles out of the car and the girl backs away, trying to get out of the light.
“Hey, wait!” Lucas calls. She stops, letting the unruly group approach her.
“Do you need help?” Mike asks. She simply furrows her brow and wraps her arms around herself, still wearing the same t-shirt and jeans.
“You look cold.” Dustin shrugs off his jacket and offers it to her. It’s a little snug, but it seems to do the trick. She fingers the buttons and looks around with guarded eyes. Steve wonders if this is the way Eleven was when she first appeared.
“Hey,” he murmurs, afraid of startling her. “What’s your name?”
She locks eyes with him and her voice is a low whisper. “Robin.”
As the first rays of sunlight appear, Steve sits on the couch in the Byers’ living room. There’s a flurry of activity - the kids arguing with Hopper, Jonathan frying eggs, Joyce pacing. Robin sits curled up in the recliner and El stays close to her, wrapping her in a heavy quilt.
Nancy hands him a mug of coffee, and he gives her a half-smile in return.
“I told you to talk to me.”
“Yeah, well…” He trails off. He doesn’t even know what to say anymore, the danger of their impending situation starting to weigh on his chest. It’s all happening again...
“I’m glad you were out there. I mean it. Thank you.” The look in her eyes is sincere and Steve thinks maybe, maybe someday they could be friends again.
As she gets up to root around for weapons, Hopper walks over and hands him the spiked bat.
“You know, kid...could use someone like you on the force. Think about it.”
“Yeah, maybe I will.”
He’ll think about it. They just have to make it through this first.
inspired by this post. shoutout to @maxmayfield for getting me back into writing, especially writing Steve :)

Dec 5 Spoiler Design Roundup
Why on Earth did I ever think that this was going to be a good idea? Anyway, we start off this week with a card that I should have gotten last week, pushing our total for this week up to 27 new cards to review. I can’t think of anything else to say except let’s get to it.
Ocellus, Hit the Books
Tumblr media
Novelty: This text is coming to us straight off of Tempest Shadow & Grubber from last, without modification, and it’s not really bringing anything new to the colour since that card was in Purple too. It’s an okay point that the card allows Purple to be more removal-focused while joined with other colours but even so I’m not impressed.
Impact: It seems clear to me that the 4-req is there to explicitly bar BRB from using the card (since that deck always was Mane’ing Pink). Given that, it would fall to the Purple version of the deck to pick Ocellus up, and it might have. This card would certainly have been a help.
Flavour: Since sending to top of deck is the hardest form of Friend removal that Purple has access to, it can get associated with the toughest punishment that the colour can dish out: detention, extra homework, yada yada yada. So that’s okay, even if it feels a little off coming from earnest Ocellus here.
Rockhoof, Pillar of Strength
Tumblr media
Novelty: Rockhoof’s primary Novelty score comes from his position as one of the few cards in the game that properly plays slowly. Taken together, after a few turns this card is usually 4 Power, and easily enough 8. But that takes time, and there haven’t been very many cards at all in the game that reach stupendous value like that only eventually.
Impact: Unfortunately, Rockhoof falls to the same Problem as did Star Swirl. Only maybe even a little worse, since at least the opponent was incentivized to get rid of Star Swirl before any of his triggers happen. The opponent might not feel like Rockhoof has to be dealt with until 2 or 3 turns down the line. Notably, of course, he’s only costing you 1, which helps, but ultimately the card would be unlikely to have much of an impact on the board.
Flavour: As I’ve said, I’ve felt pretty good about Flavour on nearly all of these Pillar cards, with the singular exception of the somewhat staid art choices. Similar to Flash before, can we not have just a touch more action to look at? But yeah, just like Star Swirl was Super Purple, say hello to Super Orange!
Mage Meadowbrook, Pillar of Healing
Tumblr media
Novelty: Has there ever been a card that hated Troublemakers this much? You could maybe make an argument for Fire When Ready, but besides that, no. The opposing Resource sweep was done before in Rest in Pieces, but combining effects is always pushing the envelope, especially when you combine really powerful effects like this card does. And attaches a Friend to boot.
Impact: Given that the card almost single-hoofedly destroys the deck that ended up winning this past Continental’s, I naturally have a hard time seeing how it could ended up not making a splash in last set. Even if Yellow already has a ton of cards doing this, as I said above, combining effects is super powerful.
Flavour: Is this Super Yellow? Well, we’re taking two things that the colour is good at, turning them both up to eleven and combining them together, so I’d say that qualifies. Plus, yay, Meadowbrook isn’t just standing there! See, this is all that I’m asking for. Surely Flash and Rockhoof could have got something more like this.
Berry Punch, Party Preparations
Tumblr media
Novelty: Based on how I dealt with Meadowbrook above, I feel like I should start giving a little more Novelty weight to cards that combine previous effects than I have so far. Since that really a design decision that pushes both of them. Here, we have the draw effect from the DJ Mane, in addition to CG Shining Armour’s Power philosophy. That’s enough to at least earn us something.
Impact: It’s always hard to gauge which cards could have dredged up colours that were seeing use in the old days. In this case, though, Pink/Orange actually did do a thing in SB, though admittedly only right at the end. I have a feeling this card would at least have been in the running for that sort of deck, so it deserves some respect.
Flavour: When evaluating this category, I’ve found it easier to start at 5 and think about things I don’t like rather than trying to go the other way. Because it’s worth remembering that Flavour shouldn’t be a hard category to get a 5 in. In this case, it’s a little tough to imagine Berry Punch as a solid, dependable character with lots of Power to rely on, but again it matters based on how much a party you’re ready to start. That’s something I can get behind.
Ember, Dragon Lord
Tumblr media
Novelty: “Just another Orange Diligent Friend” was an example that I specifically had in mind for things that would score low on Novelty when I was dreaming up this series. Ember does manage to save herself at least, with the ability to provide some level of protection from frightening. She’s also good for providing a “lock without a key” like Distracting Cheerer did before. This card asks for you to have some other source of counters if you want to get max value out of it.
Impact: While Orange has done a lot of protection from frightening before, I’m struggling to think of a meta where it was really, truly, relevant. It’s never been useless, but it’s never really been useful enough to make it an objective worth playing toward either.
Flavour: The flavour text on this one wraps the whole card up into a neat little package, which providing its own cherry on top of everything. The Dragons as a whole I’ve felt to be well-designed from a Flavour standpoint this whole set: capable of working together under the guidance of a tenacious, intimidating leader. What they accomplish with that work, though, is their own problem to solve.
Greta, Cruising Along
Tumblr media
Novelty: As many before me have pointed out, Lyra 3.0 here isn’t exactly breaking new ground in terms of what she’s trying to accomplish for the game. Surely I understand why such a card needed to exist, but that doesn’t mean I have to like it.
Impact: What with the amount of pressure that aggro was under last set, Blue would have surely appreciated another early play to rely on by Turn 2. Especially as this one could guarantee a confront on something, whether the opponent’s TT or your own Problem. So Scootaloo would have appreciated this a lot. Enough to warrant its inclusion, I’d expect.
Flavour: The thing that gets to me about this card is the necessary “drag” effect, i.e. moving something along with it entering play. I get the concept of Greta as on her way, with movement present in the card a fair amount, but to be honest I’ve never really got why any in the “Lyra” series got to move something else.
Friendship U
Tumblr media
Novelty: This is the first tri-colour Song that I’ve had to put through this process, and as with all first-time things, it was hard. Eventually, for this category I decided to look at what each effect did, and Pink’s contribution of retiring a random is a pretty interesting one. It’s probably weak compared to the others (unless you can engineer a Poppy point with it, heh), but at least it’s new. Add that to the tri-colour +1 and we’re in an okay spot.
Impact: For an instant I was tempted to say here that tri-colour just didn’t work in SB, a meta where even two colours was often enough a liability. But Pink could do it, which at least gives cards like this a shot, and its Blue and White abilities are worth enough for a look.
Flavour: For the Flavour, I was honestly drawing a big blank here. Songs by their nature are often hard to connect in terms of Flavour, since generally three effects loosely related to the contributing colours are grouped in, as certainly seemed to be the case here. Add on to that Songs usually want to do three different things, and it’s often hard to tie the whole package together and make it feel united.
Reliving History
Tumblr media
Novelty: This card is really cool. It took us all a few moments after its reveal to fully grasp all the ways in which that’s true, but such a simple statement of text enables a lot of ways to use it. While that’s kind of captured by Impact, there might need to be a fourth category to cover cards like this, perhaps something like “Elegance”, evaluated based on enabling as much stuff as possible with simple text. Thoughts for the future. Anyway, the card superficially resembles Stand Still! as well as Inspiration Manifestation, but comes away smelling fresh regardless.
Impact: As above, for enabling all of the cool tricks that this card does, it’s hard to imagine not finding it somewhere. The only reason this isn’t ranked higher is that White needed a lot more than just a fancy trick card to become something special. Bugle’s deck might have included this card as a counter-confront tool, but other than that there just weren’t that many decks to take it.
Flavour: In terms of the concept of literally reliving history by sending something back to where it was before, everything here works out. Even in spite of the idea maybe being a little Purple, with time travel and all that, tying it to Rarity and Sweetie with the art and text works great to make the colour work. The only issue, as is often the case on these Harmony cards, is making that scaling work. What to additional Unicorns have to do with any of this?
Mistmane, Pillar of Beauty
Tumblr media
Novelty: Unusually for a card with a high rating, there isn’t all that much to say here. The card is novel. It comes out of left field, but rather than leaving destruction like Fireworks, it leaves thought. What is the best way to use an effect like this? Many will ask that question. Some, maybe, will find the answer.
Impact: I agonized a long time over this. Mistmane is so unique that I imagine her Impact would be the same on virtually any meta, which means that this score is unavoidably a projection on FF in addition to a reflection on SB. Provoking an explosion of speculation as she inevitably will, she can’t be lower than a 3. The only question left is how good the decks that she creates would end up being. And while I’m not willing to give her every concession, I can’t give her a 3 either.
Flavour: The card nails the Flavour, encapsulating this idea of a cycle of rebirth and renewal so well. How the card flows from hand to board to discard pile and back, earning you benefits along the way. Embrace the cycle, do not fight it. It’s good. A fitting capstone to the cycle that it’s completing.
Silverstream, Student of Friendship
Tumblr media
Novelty: Taking a look back through the full list of cards, I was surprised by how many Problem deck interactions Pink actually has already. This card’s text borrows directly from Music in the Treetops, and comes very close to both the Cheese Sandwich UR and the Party Favour UR. Silverstream isn’t really innovating on either of them, though, except for her low req.
Impact: For the same reason, this is an effect class that Pink has had access to for a long time already, and at comparable costs too. I don’t think there’s ever been enough “Problem deck matters” cards to make this sort of thing desirable.
Flavour: Why exactly is Pink able to interact with the Problem deck? Inside the concept of the game, interacting with the Problem deck is really like being able to see the future coming before it happens, which is actually fine. Pinkie Sense is an idea, after all, though it’s weird that that’s never been explicitly elaborated in a Pink card. Either way, Silverstream isn’t even tapping into that, so I don’t know.
Caldera, Explosive Personality
Tumblr media
Novelty: As I mentioned when I first spoiled this card, Caldera offers a third take on the idea of repeatable frighten, costing more than the free one that Midnight gave us, and less than the somewhat risky one you can get from Staff of Sacanas. Exploring that space is good, especially while fitting into the Dragon tribe and potentially pulling them in a slightly new direction. Plus, using the ready instead of the exhaust as the trigger is totally new, and enables the card to go in cool directions if its getting exhausted to some other ability.
Impact: This card’s primary value, I should think, would be in that repeatable frighten, which is not a terrible ability by any standard. While the predominant Orange/Purple of Chaos Control was never going to give up its Stick, it likes what this card can do and is in the right colours. It could have found its way to trying the card out a bit.
Flavour: Like so many of Harmony-tagged cards, the basic foundation of the card is great, incorporating the title and the flavour text into the idea of a dragon who stands as a pretty intimidating fellow. But try as I did, I couldn’t think of a good reason why, when he collects himself after having scared somepony, that would then offer some encouragement to a fellow Dragon. So a middle-of-the-road score then.
Starlight Glimmer, Great and Powerful Assistant
Tumblr media
Novelty: Pulling things out of the discard pile temporarily to banish them later is admittedly old hat for these colours, but Starlight does do something new in tying her ability to a novel trigger. In doing so, she creates a situation where that particular ability, normally associated indelibly with control, might get included in aggro instead.
Impact: Unlike, say, griffons, dragons and changelings, the card corpus was full up on Unicorns already, and indeed most of the Unicorns that I’m now looking at to go into Unicorn aggro are old cards. So it’s safe to say that Starlight might have been able to pull a deck or two together in her time, though without the new Trixie it’s harder to say if she would have seen any success.
Flavour: Honestly, I feel like Hithroc should be really pleased with how this set has gone. While there hasn’t been that much Trixie herself, there’s been a lot of “Trixie-fication”, as I would say. Unicorns are getting emphasized for their adeptness at using spells to perform little tricks, and Starlight here is no different. She’s ready and willing to help every unicorn unlock their inner Trixie by giving them some magic to play around with.
Rainbow Dash & Fluttershy, Chillax
Tumblr media
Novelty: Yellow has been specializing in these global +1 boosts for a while now, and perhaps the most surprising thing for me is that they haven’t worked out yet. How much is it going to take? Still, this card’s reliance on Pegasi is fresh for it, and reaps those natural points from doing Harmony.
Impact: Surely this dam’s got to burst at some point. We’re right around the point where our Pegasus tokens could be entering at around 4-5 Power after all. This card would be enough to make it work, I think, even if it would take more support (like we’ve got in this set!) to take it to the next level.
Flavour: I have a really hard attaching Swift to a card so clearly lackadaisical in its approach, yet at the same time RD and Fluttershy here are doing it right. An encouragement to get enough rest is exactly the thing that those energetic, enthusiastic Pegasi need to follow, and it will no doubt serve them well.
Tymbal, Talk It Out
Tumblr media
Novelty: Adding new cards that score points to the game is simultaneously the most dangerous and also the most necessary experimentation that can happen within the game. Precedent has set the standard that winning almost always an alternative source of points, so adding another in a measured manner like this must be applauded. And doing so in a way that firmly nudges Changelings along is possibly even more important. I’ve lamented before that I couldn’t tell the direction of the Changeling tribe, but now I see. This card is the tribe’s direction, and it’s a worthy one to pursue.
Impact: As a card that scores points, I’ll go out on a limb and say that this card would have seen play in SB even with the dearth of changelings that set had. Thorax Mane would have dragged together as many of them as he could and given it a shot. And who knows, it might have actually worked.
Flavour: This card is possibly my favourite flavour yet. Yellow and White, for the soothing help and for a changeling who knows how to accessorize. Low power, for his own non-threatening nature. Calming is a nice touch too. Plus, for once the Harmony text makes perfect sense too. You’re getting a point because you’re actively working to solve problems before they get unmanageable, and a Feeling Forum isn’t a forum unless at least two changelings show up. It actually all fits.
Gabby, Express Delivery
Tumblr media
Novelty: I perhaps ought to give a little more consideration on Novelty for all of the Dragon, Griffon and Changeling Harmony cards, since by their nature they’re pushing archetypes that have to be completely new. In Gabby’s case, she gets extra points for throwing Agile onto a fairly substantial body, and synergizing it well with her own ability.
Impact: One reason to support the above assertion is that due to the fact that Dragons, Griffons and Changelings were more spice than strategy before, most of their Harmony cards now are doomed to low Impact ratings, because you’re a total bomb like Tymbal you’re not going to suddenly incarnate a deck around yourself. Gabby suffers that fate just as well as any griffon has before her.
Flavour: I talked in the last post about how the Griffon tribe functions around the idea not of quite working together, but of having each griffon be individually better instead. Each griffon costs less, or gets to frighten a thing, or draws you a card when it moves, etc. Since this keeps playing into that idea, it’s good. Plus the rest of the stats all seem to line up okay, and the Agile makes plenty of sense for a youth like Gabby.
Applejack & Pinkie Pie, Backdrop Builders
Tumblr media
Novelty: We’ve had a couple of cards that start faceoffs when they enter before, that couple being Gilda and SR Maud. But neither of those had anywhere near the same payoff as this one. This has the potential to draw a lot of cards, and I think it necessitates experimentation, which is what new cards should always do.
Impact: As I mentioned for the other Pink/Orange card, we only have to look for eminently_sensible’s Continentals deck to ask if it would have taken something like this. Maybe it would have. Probably it wouldn’t have. And would this card have coalesced a new deck around itself? I don’t think so, though it’s still exciting enough to give me pause. I can’t give it a 2, so I guess it’s a 3.
Flavour: So the thing is that Gilda and Maud both had confrontations worked into their concepts. So too for the Showdowns and the old multi-showdowns. This card kinda does, right there in the art, but it’s self-contained. We’re not challenging the opponent just because there’s conflict inherent in the card. Moreover, again the scaling with earth ponies is a little tricky to walk.
The EEA Council, Strict Guidelines
Tumblr media
Novelty: The thing that I love about cards like these, at least as far as this series is concerned, is that they’re so easy to write about. This card’s effect is totally new and completely unexpected. Check.
Impact: This card impacts basically every deck from prior metas, to some greater or lesser degree. The only reason it’s not a five is due to the (small) chance that everyone just ignores it because they can’t build a good enough deck around it. But even then, all decks have to be aware that it exists.
Flavour: This card makes perfect sense, with the staid, stolid council unwilling to put up with any funny business. And, even better, them being so imperious that they’ll enforce those rules on everyone, not just the opponent. In some Un-set, I wouldn’t be surprised if Neighsay enforced his rules on the games adjacent to yours as well.
Pegasus Chariot
Tumblr media
Novelty: While essentially doing nothing that hasn’t been done before, Pegasus Chariot gets high marks for rolling everything up into a Resource and presenting such a compelling value engine. It’s a deceptively simple card, but it does everything, and because of that it’s very versatile. Both Blue and Purple like what they’re seeing here.
Impact: It doesn’t matter if you’re primarily moving your stuff or the opponent’s stuff, the card is just as good. That allows this card to fit just fine into two wildly different play styles, and that helps its Impact immensely. Like I said, basically any Purple/Blue deck would need to look.
Flavour: For the “Elegance” rating that I mentioned earlier, this card is off the charts. Both Blue and Purple wrapped up in a single ability, presented as a single sentence. What is there to say? It’s a chariot that moves stuff. Plus you’ve got the pegasi too, so you don’t have to supply a driver; just pay them what they’re due.
Professor Fossil, Chipping Away
Tumblr media
Novelty: On the other hand, sometimes you get a softball going totally the other direction. Vanilla entry? Boring.
Impact: I repeat: Vanilla entry? Boring.
Flavour: This one, though, I did have to think about. I wanted to be very careful if I was going to consider giving the card an all-around 1, after all. Such vanilla cards have to exist after all, and Flavour is their saving-grace category. But 4-Power, especially in Orange, comes almost exclusively down to either physical strength, or the results of cooperation, neither of which is in much evidence here. Is “having strong opinions” enough to warrant that designation? No.
Sphinx, Grinning Riddler
Tumblr media
Novelty: These guessing type mechanics are nothing new to the game, but they’ve been infrequently enough in the past that it’s useful to have some more to play around with. Especially in a form like this, where it’s not hard to imagine the card’s effect going off every so often. Plus it’s the first time something like this has had such a significant effect, as opposed to just gaining some AT from Magic Arena.
Impact: The problem naturally, is that in SB the Troublemaker choices were relatively set in stone, and the meta really lacked any way to increase the Sphinx’s effectiveness. This card was never going to dislodge Mimics or Grubber from their spots, so it’s hard to imagine a world where it saw much of any play.
Flavour: The card fits the bill for what it’s trying to do though. Like the Sphinx of old, it asks a question, and if you get it right it steps aside. Good stuff. It’s also very nice that if your opponent has Somnambula, this card actually does nothing. Since you have to indicate which card you chose, and your opponent can see your hand. But that’s great from a design perspective.
We’re Friendship Bound
Tumblr media
Novelty: At least with tri-colour cards I now have something of a rubric to mark against. The random discard is pretty new, as we had a little of it way back in the day, but not much at all these days. Moving opposing characters is nothing special, nor is getting through Troublemakers though. (Flutter Pirate was basically an Event already.) So Tri-colour +1 plus the Orange thing makes 3.
Impact: Moving three opposing characters or getting through Troublemakers are great abilities, though, as is the random discards when attached to a simple Event. Honestly I’d have marked this card higher if being tri-colour hadn’t been as much of a liability in the past.
Flavour: As I said, for Friendship U, it’s almost an expectation that these tri-colour Songs should be a bit of a mess in terms of Flavour. We’re taking three effects that emulate their colour, and which do fundamentally different things in order to make the Song versatile, and it’s incredibly hard to get something coherent out of that. Consider this 2 almost as a placeholder in that respect.
Somnambula’s Blindfold
Tumblr media
Novelty: Ooh, a perfect score! That’s nice, since it usually means I don’t have to write all that much. The Novelty here is easy enough to grasp, as I can’t remember seeing text like that anywhere before. Such an effect, especially expressed as an all-powerful can’t, is quite a powerful one, and well worth seeing around.
Impact: Similarly, last set there was a whole lot of discard pile interaction going on, and a whole pile of deck search going on too. Maybe this is a good time to point out that this card turns off Meticulous?? Yeah, that’s pretty Impactful.
Flavour: As Somnambula’s artifact, the Blindfold forces both players to play blind, to understand that no matter how hard they try, they’re not going to impact their futures or reach back into their pasts to find answers. There is only the now, and the only course of action is to pick a direction and believe it’s the right one.
Mistmane’s Flower
Tumblr media
Novelty: As many people better-versed in the CG corpus than I were quick to point out, this is very close to what Fake Crystal Heart did back in the day. But as only the second card ever to implement this ability, and for doing it in a slightly novel way, it’s got to get some recognition. Core could use something like this, for all the weirdness it enables.
Impact: The card clearly has been designed to be a lot better than Fake Crystal Heart for what it does, enough so that it’s going to get some interest no matter where it goes. Is it enough interest to make it actually good. Well, there definitely are enough Resources out there to be worth stealing, that’s for sure.
Flavour: Since we don’t have the full flavour text on this one, I don’t have to evaluate it! Because Flavour is all about the whole package, and we don’t have the whole package. But for what it’s worth, the rest of the card looks good, fitting nicely into Mistmane’s whole cycle of renewal thing.
Defend the Hive
Tumblr media
Novelty: This is a pretty simple, straightforward Event, even if we include the whole Harmony Changeling text. To some extent, it can win some plaudits just for being so simple and elegant. Just like with Chariot, simplicity can often open the door to the real shenanigans.
Impact: Thorax adores this card, and though he wasn’t all over the place last set, he sure was knocking on the door. He just needed to get a wing in somewhere, and surely he would have been all over the place. I’d be willing to bet that this card would have been good enough to make some more people see him.
Flavour: I am surprised, though, to see the very simple Immediate-speed move-a-thing Event be in Yellow of all colours. The Changeling add-on is fine, but the vanilla Event is plainly Blue, and that hurts the Flavour a good deal. It’s one of those cards that I can see the intention behind pretty clearly, which is a shame here, because it doesn’t change the facts.
Spike, Fight and Flight
Tumblr media
Novelty: In essence, this card functions a lot like an Ember with Diligent, except of course that he only goes in one faceoff per turn. Since his potential payoff is a lot more, then that’s just fine with me. Plus he brings that ability into the proper fold of the Dragon colours.
Impact: When I first saw this card, my first thought was: “This is why the Dragon deck doesn’t have to splash for Ember, huh?” My second was: “I’m probably still going to splash for Ember though.” Now none of that is to hate on Spike. This low Impact rating is simply a point of recognizing that Chaos Control wasn’t about to take him, and like so many of these new cards, Spike isn’t hitting anything special nor is he going to forge a new deck all on his own. Don’t worry, Spike, you’ll have a place in FF if I have anything to say about it.
Flavour: Spike’s growing up! And so he’s becoming more like a dragon, starting some fights and getting in on them. He’s smart enough to pick his battles, but also not tenacious enough yet to get in on too many of them. Just like Ember, though, he’s a noble dragon, so he’ll only end up on the wrong side of the fight sometimes. I know I’m looking forward to having Spike and Nightmare Moon team up to scare off some ponies.
Old Money, Particular Socialite
Tumblr media
Novelty: Our text here comes to us direct from A Petite Sneeze, only without the inflated cost and with the added sweetener of that “enters play” ability. That’s a dramatic realignment from its former incarnation, and stands poised to usher in some real fun times.
Impact: Is this the most powerful “enters play” ability we’ve ever had on a Friend. It’s in the running, I’d say. There’s a deck shaping up already that looks to get away with murder thanks to this card, and most of it is pre-FF. Suddenly some cards like Starlight Glimmer, Magic Instructor are looking pretty essential. But I’m not quite ready to say that it’s going to kill everything yet.
Flavour: Well, here we’ve got a very exacting planner indeed. Meticulous 2 is reserved for the ponies who really obsess over the details, and Old Money here likes it just so. Moreover, if you step out of line, she won’t just show you the door. She will end you. But political and social connections can only get a pony so far. Banishing Troublemakers is a little much.
Yona, Friendship or Else
Tumblr media
Novelty: A quick look through the archives reveals that Persistent, while a rarity among Yellow Friends, isn’t an unknown. The same goes for Swift, which is a little more common among Yellow. The big kicker here though is that bounce text. For what is I think the first time, the strongest removal in Yellow is being done in a repeatable manner. I know of a deck or two that will like that.
Impact: So Bedtime has been lurking in the shadows for a long time now, played only by a couple of true aficionados. I don’t expect that Yona is going to suddenly bring that thing into the spotlight, but she certainly helps. It’s good that she can find a place there, since I’m not sure if the aggro Yellow can find a spot for her. Maybe it could, but Yellow was very fast in those days, and might not have appreciated a tempo card like this one as much.
Flavour: Yona knows what she wants, and she’s not going to stop until she gets it. Again, bounce is Yellow’s super removal, so if you want a repeatable version of it, you better put it on someone bound and determined to see their way through. Yona even kinda’ deserves the Swift, being a quick stepper when the situation demands it. Not all bad at all.
Well, as to what I’ll do for this when the whole set comes out, we’re going to have to see. I could see myself maybe extending it out as we go over the rest of the set, to avoid having to do dozens of cards in one week ever again. Stay tuned for updates on that.
