Sibling Squabbles | Yandere!Superman and Jon x Teen!Reader
Tumblr media
“Jon, please get out the way.” You demanded in an even tone.
The younger boy didn’t budge from his spot in front of the door. His gaze held firm and he shook his head, “Dad said you couldn’t leave.”
“Clark doesn’t hold authority over me.” You reminded him matter of factly, “He’s not my father and I’m not your sister.”
Jon frowned deeply at your words, “Dad said you’d have a hard time-“
“Move, Jon!” You demanded again, louder.
You moved up to him, trying to shuffle past him with your backpack filled with a few essentials.
“Where would you even go?! You were homeless before this!”
“And? At least I wasn’t stuck in some house with creepy men!” You rebutted angrily, grabbing for the doorknob.
Jon grabbed your wrist, gripping it tight, “I’m not creepy! And neither is my dad! Take that back!” He knew that his dad told him to be gentle with you since you were still settling down but you were going too far.
“No! I mean it! You’re creepy!” You repeated sharply, trying to wrestle your wrist from Jon’s grip. “Ugh! It’s no wonder your mom left-!”
A sickening crack sounded from your wrist and you saw it crinkle in a way it wasn’t supposed to then a horrible pain that left you screaming from both the shock of what happened and the pain.
Jon stood frozen, breathing uneven.
He looked from your crumpled arm to your snotty face.
He hadn’t meant to hurt you. His father had warned him plenty of times to use his powers for good and here he was hurting you because you said something hurtful.
“I-I’m- (Y/N), I’m so-!” He reached out to you and you jerked back violently with a yelp.
“Stay the fuck away from me!” You snapped, opening the door with your good hand and running out towards the trail that led to the city.
Jon decided it best that he not follow you.
He knew you wouldn’t escape now anyhow. You were far too hurt and in too much shock to get far enough. And no one would allow a young teen like you to walk around with a broken arm if you did make it to the city.
The next time he saw you, which was a day later, his father had brought you back home with a blue cast on your arm.
You looked exhausted, pissed off, and every other negative emotion that people could feel.
Clark had you both in the living room and glanced at the two of you sternly. He looked at you first with an expectant gaze.
“(Y/N), apologize to your brother.” He said, arms crossed.
You kept your gaze on the cast for a moment.
A deep breath in, “Sorry.”
“You can do better than that.” Clark wasn’t one that took apologies lightly. You had to put your full heart into it. “Remember what we talked about at the doctor’s.”
Another deep breath, “Sorry for saying stuff about your mother.” You gritted out, “And about you… I didn’t mean it.” Your voice was incredibly monotone but Clark knew that was the best they were going to get from you right now.
He knew there’d be plenty more altercations in the future to teach you how to apologize properly and honestly.
He turned to Jon, “Be more careful in the future,” He reminded him simply, “And apologize to your sister.”
Jon’s lip wobbled as he gazed at you and you wished great harm upon him. How dare he act like he was the one that had been victimized? Like he was innocent?
How dare Clark make you apologize first when Jon had hurt you? Now you were stuck in a cast and had been set back.
“I’m sorry, (Y/N). I won’t do that ever again and I forgive you.” He gave you a teary smile, “I know you’re having a hard time and I should’ve kept my anger in check.”
Clark smiled warmly, “Try to keep the sibling squabble to a minimum, okay, you two?” He patted you both on the head.
He then stood up and made his way to the kitchen, “Who wants breakfast?” He asked, tying an apron around his person, “I’m thinking waffles, eggs and bacon!”
Jon licked his lips, “I’ll have some! Can I help?!” He asked excitedly, running after his father.
“Of course you can, Jon.” You heard Clark answer from the kitchen, “(Y/N), come join us.”
God you hated them with every fiber of your being.

I haven’t watched it yet but from what I’ve gathered my adventures with superman is The definitive superman adaptation, like they know what they’re doing over there, they know that the edgelord snyderverse injustice superman is completely inaccurate and that superman is actually, in fact, a dorky himbo anime magical girl with massive tits amen

I hope Superman fandom as a whole will one day understand that if you truly want to commit to the immigrant allegory, scenes like Lois shooting Clark with a gun or her jumping off a building to prove he's Superman pair really badly with that allegory.
I know some fans like to say "Superman was always an immigrant allegory" and while I get the sentiment of retroactively looking at how the lives of his creators inform the character they made, we also have to acknowledge that the allegory was never consistent to begin with. The original Superman comics were fun gags and shenanigans. Superman Smashes the Klan wouldn't stand out so much if his immigrant identity was consistently integral to his character.
And if you're going to commit to Superman being an immigrant, then you've got to be open to changes on staple Superman lore. So much of this fandom is dedicated to nostalgia, references, canon events, "but Lois does that in the comics! It's not Lois Lane if she doesn't do crazy things to prove who Superman is!" without considering how that is contextualized in the allegory.
I still get so many comments on my Clois comics but especially the Private Interview comic saying "I've never seen Superman this way before" from even longtime fans of the character. Honestly, I never saw him that way until I read Smashes the Klan. Since then I want people to have that recognition of themselves in him too. But that means being brave with changes! Maybe it's okay for this version of Lois to respect Superman's boundaries. Maybe an Asian Lois can be more than an aesthetic shallow retread of white Lois.
These characters are more than callbacks and references. The reason they persist throughout many versions is because they hold themes. Lois isn't just "stunt girl reporter obsessed with Superman and THE TRUTH", she's also a jaded reporter hardened by life who finds hope again in Superman. Superman isn't just "save cats from trees" guy. He's an alien immigrant, and you can make a ton of new stories from that lens alone.

What Jon meant by no rizz is that you have no charm, which I’d have to disagree with since you snagged Bruce Wayne, batman, AND Superman as your boyfriends
Well, to be honest, I didn't do much...
They just threw me over their shoulders and carried me home like you'd do with a stack of hay to a barn. What else could I do but to fall head over heels?

yknow i gotta say. lex luthor can be a really fun and interesting villain, but sometimes it does just take me aback the way some people talk about him when trying to make him funny and cool, as if his biggest and most infamous shtick is not extreme, violent xenophobia.

You listened to the Superman radio show? Cool! :D I must ask, what did you think of the original Clan of the Fiery Cross arc? How do you think it compares to Superman Smashes the Klan?
Yes! I believe that Superman Smashes the Klan improves on the original Clan of the Fiery Cross radio show arc in just about every possible way! Still, I was pleasantly delighted by how biting the original radio arc was (I listened to it in anticipation for the graphic novel)- it's no wonder that some of the lines were lifted directly into Smashes the Klan.
The main difference between Clan of the Fiery Cross and Smashes the Klan is who is centered in the narrative. In the radio show, while it did tackle anti-Asian racism directly, it was still focused on the white characters' feelings and opinions about it. Superman teams up with Chuck Riggs while Tommy Lee and his family are essentially anecdotes, narratively. I think they barely had speaking lines. The white characters are characterized as either "good eggs or bad eggs": the Clan are deplorable people and all the other white characters are critical of them. Chuck's mom does a raving condemnation of them to make this clear.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile in Smashes the Klan, the story centers the Chinese American family. Roberta- a character who was only mentioned once is now the main character and heart of the story! All the characters are complex- Tommy makes racist jokes in order to fit in, their dad desperately wants to assimilate through anti-Blackness, etc. Racism is shown as a systemic issue that affects everyone. Instead of white people being either racist or not, it's shown regardless of their opinion that they all benefit from a racist system. Chuck's mom still criticizes the Clan "but is it really all that bad to want to live among only your kind?" and Chuck repeats this notion when talking to Tommy. All in a very accessible language for kids to understand. And of course, Superman relating directly to Roberta's family as a character instead of being just A Force Of Good Who Fixes Things. The climax in Smashes the Klan is a lot stronger too.
Still, the Clan of the Fiery Cross arc is absolutely worth a listen. It's an important piece of history! It has a lot of misinformation spread about it that's so easily debunked by just listening to it. Great performances, I can see why it was so popular! It's still way more political than most Superman media nowadays. Very fun to compare the graphic novel to it.

I'm currently reading the current wonderwoman run and can anyone explain why Jon is a teenager again?
I'm not a fan of the super family and quite frankly cannot afford to buy all the comics to go down the rabbit hole.
But I know that he and Damian were the same age, and they were besties, the super sons and everything, and then I know that Jon goes off world and ends up aging and experiencing years when earth just experiences a couple weeks. Leading to Jon being significantly older.
But in the current wonderwoman run (and trinity) he appears to be the same age as Damian the whole time.
Where did the change happen?
