Great bittern or Botaurus Stellaris
The Eurasian bittern or great bittern is a wading bird in the bittern subfamily. It is a secretive bird, seldom seen in the open as it prefers to skulk in reed beds and thick vegetation near water bodies.

Hello tumblr! I am looking to connect with other history buffs and teachers as I decorate my first ever classroom! I am teaching AP Human Geo and World History I (pre-history to the Renaissance) and I really want to push perspective and representation in my decor. I have some general content poster idras, but I'd love some recommendations!

Teacher MUST HAVES- The Veruca Salt Syndrome
For More #teaching advice and all things classroom related, follow this quirky teacher theSPinnovativeclassroom.org
I don’t know about you, but I love all things classroom and teacher related. Stuff- I’ve got a lot of it. And this carries into my clothing and personal things, too. I wouldn’t say I’m a hoarder. I’m a collector of things. It’s Teacher Confession Time. I have to put myself out there. I need to help others. This blog, my advice, THIS VIDEO…I hope it helps someone. I fear it may be too late for me.
I’ve got gadgets and gizmos a-plenty. I’ve got whozits and whatzits galore. You want thingamabobs? I’ve got twenty! But who cares. Big Deal. I want morrrrrrrrrrre!
I’m an advertiser’s dream. The marketing companies? It’s me they love. Why? Because when they say “it’s a must have” and it’s on a reel, story, or video…I immediately NEED it. And since it’s so easy to just click and buy, I tend to do that.
It’s the “Veruca Salt” Syndrome. I’ve got it, and maybe you do as well. If you know your Charlie and the Chocolate Factory characters, you know Veruca. She sees it, she wants it, she buys it. And don’t tell her no. She. Needs. It. Now.
Hi, my name is DJ. I’m a teacher and parent, and I have Veruca Salt Syndrome.
Don’t get me wrong, I’ve gotten so many great things that way! Things I love and use every single day. But I’ve also gotten just as many “I don’t need this or these” items.
My advice to everyone is to stop and think before you click a link. Think don’t link. Because in the end, do you really need it? Will you really use it? Just because it works for Miss So-and-So in her adorable video, does not mean it will work for you.
This is fantastic advice. I hope it helps someone out there. And maybe one day I’ll have the willpower to use my own advice more often!
For complete transparency, I wrote this blog post after opening an Amazon package filled with some sort of art supply that I needed for a project I have long forgotten about and have zero time for now. Dragon eyes?? Honestly though, they look super cool. I could probably use them to do a very cool writing activity. Was that what I bought them for? Who knows. I have two million of them now. In the meantime, cross your fingers for me that no more packages are delivered my way.

My friend who is a teacher wanted me to make her cute classroom decorations. So I made her some bees. We have bees with and without eyelashes because I thought it was funny.

Here we go again
Here we go again
I love how the panorama effect makes my classroom look much deeper than it actually is, and the fact that the lights changed color a couple of times while I was … panorama-ing … is kind of neat too. But basically that’s all I’ve managed to do so far, is get the lights up. The desks are absolutely not staying in that configuration, but I want something new this year and I haven’t come up with the…

Can’t believe I found this awesome Stranger Things Demogorgon Diorama at a Walgreens of all places! This Halloween figurine fits perfectly with the rest of the spooky pop culture items I have in my classroom this month and it’s definitely a hit with my students. 🎃
Full disclosure: The paint job on these isn’t great, but luckily my artistic wife was able to whip out her acrylics and really make this piece display-worthy. She muddied up the pumpkins, added splashes of red to the vines from the Upside Down, and touched up the lettering on the display base. The Demogorgon didn’t even have any teeth when I got him for crying out loud – he was all gums!

Haven't finished setting up everything in my classroom (almost done--just have some decorative finishing touches). But I did finish the exterior display.
I'm showcasing books at my students' reading levels of a certain theme each quarter. This quarter is Fantasy. Couldn't help but include some familiar (but modified) lyrics.
