Hey Shal, I have a question about your family diner meta. Mad respect, but in the Leviathan arc Biggerson's is made out to be a bad thing. I was wondering if you have any thoughts on that, since in the Cas tablet meta where Naomi attacks Cas, you talk about Biggerson's being bigger sons -> better than their fathers because of their bigger hearts is a good thing? Anyway, I'm hoping this comes across as a friendly question!
I tend to shy away from writing about some stuff from that season, because a lot of it seems very era-attenuated. Example: how an average librarian is referred to as "Chubby" and her beau as "Chub-chaser" in Repo Man. In general some of the mean despair over "fat people" in this season comes off Hollywood-seedy and thoughtless, but it's soooo of the times.
Tumblr media
For a little while era, the documentary SuperSize Me reigned supreme in every bit of small-talk and in every classroom. Jessica Simpson was a frequent target of weight-shaming, including this hugely publicized fiasco from 2009, when she looked like a walking dream BTW.
In this way, SPN is like a time capsule. (Like how, if you were alive at the time during post-"war on terror," Torture was the big topic in every current events class, verging on a buzz word.)
///
Yes, Biggerson's is a BIG motif in season 7, and with negative connotations. It's a nod to SuperSize Me. It's especially damning for the punching-down attitudes in Hollywood.
I want to point out that although the name is cheeky, Biggerson's wasn't even inherently bad in-world.
The Leviathan were a rotten supplier to this family chain industry, dosing their food with additives, which mirrors a lot of the real-world chatter that was going on about trans-fats, partially hydrogenated oil, etc. People were working really hard to get them banned!
When you get down to it, the people inside Biggerson's were being actively preyed upon.
///
What I think I want to carefully pivot to is the dark side of humanity and family, that of consumerism and exploitation.
I think overall that the family diner is still a positive motif, but as with every motif, there's a shadow side--the uncharitable side, a side that can be carried to extremes.
The "shadow self" of the family diner motif is excess and greed exploiting the family by ravaging its most basic requirement to survive: shelter and nourishment.
They are making humans into livestock. This was also a rampant idea in the 2000s: about selectively breeding farm animals so that they get dumber and dumber, until they're easy to subjugate for meat, assembly-line style. I think they briefly touch on this again in season 12...with the Moloch monster and family business of meat packaging.
Anyway, SPN was trying to loop this idea in, too.
///
So, yes. BIG erson's. Bigger Sons. Etc. Etc.
You want your kids to be better than you, with "bigger hearts" and more kindness. But bigger and stronger can have a heck of a downside, too.
But at its heart, the family diner also represents communion and community. It is, after all, the weak, vulnerable human family that Cas wants to protect in season 8.
It's both things at once.
(ASIDE//
And Cas becomes the ideal/idea/motif of the always-working dad/husband that wants to provide for you but doesn't indulge in happiness or nourishment for himself.)
///
ASIDE 2//
Flagrant consumerism is a big part of Nephilim concept, too, and that's a very ancient story. Theirs was an extensive appetite that so drained the world they had to be eradicated to save the world. In a very real symbolic sense, We are the Nephilim. (On the nose maybe, but we are empire: too tall, too strong, too wasteful, war-mongering, dominating etc. etc.)
And my point is, I think humans have always been aware of the tension and war that comes with the competition for finite resources. It's not just a modern, "American" concept.
In early days, our conceptualization of gods and demi-gods mimics the food chain. Ergo: If gods are above us, they're like other stronger animals...they want to eat us. Thus, sacrificing to them is a way to appease them.
Humanity and religion are historically oriented towards pooling resources to survive. Many religions, even the big ones imho, are a clever family-extension device, that's why it they’re so littered with parental components. (It's used to bind people “under one roof” and funnel the resources appropriately.
Certainly, that how Cults and Causes start; in meaningful ways they're all baby/early religions. And when enough time goes by, and the leaders die, etc etc...they devolve to myth and respectable religions proper. The ultimate difference is time.
If angels are royal families, ancient knights-and-tribalism, then Leviathan were supreme capitalism.
It worked well in theory, even when the execution was sometimes lacking to too campy to get the satire across. Especially coming from, you know, Hollywood. And Biggerson's is a warped shadow of that appetite symbol.

Name: Kylee (they/them). 30+
A totally normal Korean American mostly known for my drawings, specifically my Pokemon nuzlocke comics. But I will talk about other things on occasion because I do have periods of being fixated on certain topics. I also am a doctor!
Interests: Pokemon, League of Legends (everything except the game lmao), Fire Emblem, Advance Wars, Animal Crossing, Mother series, Korean history/culture, character design
General FYIs:
General inquiries/commission work/etc should be sent thru kynimdraws [at] gmail [dot] com! Tumblr messaging/asks/etc is not 100% reliable
I will not follow NSFW accounts but I am fine talking/interacting with them. There may be suggestive shitposting but I like keeping my content on the SFW side
I am VERY picky about who I follow/interact with online. Fandom content in particular is a minefield for me aka I have many things I dislike and don’t want to see, even if it might be a popular thing in media that I otherwise enjoy. Therefore, I will unfollow/block/mute liberally. There are times I accidentally block a blog bc I mistake them for bots. So if you got hit with that, just send me an ask or email me
I am very open about what I like and dislike, and none of those things are a direct attack on your sensibilities. I have never gone out of my way to directly send hate or whatever have you if I end up seeing shit I don’t like. My complaints in my little online space ain't a personal attack on you.
My ask/submission box/DMs  are open for criticisms if you have any issues you want to resolve in private. No one is perfect and I may have done ignorant shit that needs to be pointed out. I have deleted or edited posts in the past if people tell me what I did wrong. PS I get that some of my stuff may upset you, but try to act civil when pointing shit out please.
I try to tag all my things whenever I can. Again, send me a message if anything bothers you. I am all for good debate but if you send me excessive hate or threats bc I have different opinions about matters that are trivial, I will block/delete them.
If you wish to use any of my hcs, please credit me. And if you are comfortable with it, send me the works so I can check them out! Or @ me if that is easier.

FIRE EMBLEM FYI: Specifically for 3Houses/3Hopes because I need a separate one for this franchise specificially given how many crazy things I got due to being involved in this fanbase via my fanworks:
DO NOT try to convince me to like or tolerate Byleth/student ships, ESPECIALLY the ones with the lords (aka CIaude, Dimitri, EdeIgard). I already summarized why I don’t like FE3H Byleth ships with student chars here. While the spinoff game FEW3H has now removed that teacher/student problematic situation, the fandom keeps putting the FE3H elements into the FEW3H fanworks (i.e. remembering Byleth from “another life” trope)...so no thanks!! DO NOT SHOW ME IT!!!
As for the Byleth ships with faculty members, my response is here so don’t try to bait me about that topic either thanks.
I do not care whom you ingame S-support. 3Houses limits the dating-sim part of the game to that character, so I cannot care less about how you play the game. The main issue I have is when people treat Byleth the “character” as a legit ship material when I personally think they are a cool character ruined by fans who are too obsessed with badly executed self insert otome tropes bc they self-project super hard onto them. Just to be clear, any FE3H or FEW3H OC/Canon >>>>>>Byleth ships personally. Even Byleth-sonas that remove the teacher/student aspects are better than canon FE3H!Byleth
Please don't drag FE VA statements as some sort of “gotcha” on my opinions like this post here. IDC what other people prefer with ship shit, that’s their problem and not mine. I am not gonna bother them about it. So don’t bother ME about it.

This blog is vehemently pro plastic/cosmetic surgery and body modification. (This includes tattoos, piercings, gender affirming procedures, boob jobs, etc)
I acknowledge this is a complicated topic and does not exist on its own, there are many factors to the conversation about body modification of any kind but the bottom line is this-
Your body is yours. If you want to change it in anyway to make it more comfortable for you personally to live in, regardless of the feature you're deciding to change or why, more power fucking to you. As a trans person I will never, ever, ever judge someone for a 'bad' surgery result or whatever. You aren't shallow or self-obsessed and if you regret your surgeries you also aren't stupid. Your body is awesome, and in fact, isn't it SO cool that modern medicine makes it possible for us to fuck around with the body in the ways we do? Like. If y'all really believe in bodily autonomy the way you say you do you wouldn't act like a nose job is the end of the world.
Do I also get somewhat annoyed when celebrities get a million dollars worth of work done and then claim that 'healthy eating' made their acne scars magically disappear? For sure. But Becky from the office who wanted an extra two cup sizes for her birthday is not your enemy and you're kind of an ass for treating her badly about it. She paid good money for those knockers! Don't be a bitch!

Hi Hazel!
with everyone just waiting for first non-redbull win of the season, i’m so surprised that this stat hasn’t been brought up this year with aston jumping up and the possibility of fernando winning a race.
no driver has won a race after they’ve reached their 300th start. i feel like it would be a cool thing to follow considering that while yes, the aston martin is faster than the mercedes (without the upgrades at least so we’ll see in spain), anything could happen in a crazy enough race.
it was brought up a bunch last year when lewis had his 300th start but honestly, every race weekend i go in thinking if something crazy happens, i wonder who’s going to be the first one to win out of the two of them. especially with the history between those two.
might be a nerdy thing to be looking out for but i like to find joy in the little things in f1 so idk was kind of waiting for crofty or alex jacques to pull that stat out at some point because i think it’s cool.
i do want it to be lewis first though, now that i’ve created this mini competition in my head.
this definitely came up the other week, when Lewis hit 300, although I can’t remember where. it’s one of those that’s definitely floating around journalist discussions for like, topics that will come up.
I sincerely believe Lewis will win again, I don’t know about Alonso. it’s been a very, very long time and a lot of rule changes since Fernando won a race which isn’t to say it’s impossible but it is relatively unlikely; Aston binned the chance pretty much as badly as McL did in Sochi yesterday and it’s only the Red Bull’s dominance that’s letting them off for it.
so: he’ll probably win Spain just to annoy me. oh god, I’ve just had a vision of F1 twitter if that happens and I think I’ll just turn the internet off. not my internet, I mean the whole thing.
only six drivers ever (Schumacher, Button, Hamilton, Barrichello, Raikkonen, Alonso) have gone over 300 starts. so statistically it’s not all that surprising that none of them have won again after that; Alonso is the most outlier in the ranks because he’s done 61 races since since his 300th (Lewis has done 16) so in theory has had the most chances but also, we all know F1 is a numbers game in terms of chances but not a cumulative one.
so, yeah. it will be interesting which of them (maybe both) does it this year. or next year. or in 2028 when inexplicably this is all still going on, etc.

Happy one-year anniversary of rdo being declared dead! Here’s a list of things that will never be added or fixed/finished now! Yeehaw
The Land of Opportunities. We’ll never get a proper conclusion to the Mrs LeClerk storyline.
Blood Money. Yes blood money was 99% a letdown/absolute joke but I still wanted to see some kind of conclusion to stealing the gems.
Also just more smaller blood money contracts. Those little 3-part missions were fun and y’all can argue with the wall idc
Expansions to ALL the roles, like rockstar promised.
Meeting the VDL gang. Idk, it just bothers me that many of the strangers in online are antagonists and/or the creepiest strangers you could possibly have picked (im looking at you, aberdeens). Seeing the gang before the blackwater incident, even if it’s in a very small/limited way, would have been a million times more interesting. (and probably brought in a lot more players)
(putting the rest below because this got rather lengthy and i’ve been adding to it for a while)
Fixing all the shit broken with the naturalist role. Legendary animal spawns are inconsistent as fuck, the Protect Legendary animal free roam event has a 50/50 chance of bugging out and not finishing, i dont remember the harriettum animal transformations ever working properly, etc, etc.
Minigames! I wanna play five-finger filet! I wanna get absolutely destroyed at dominoes! (i still have no idea how to play dominoes) High-stakes poker out on the riverboat!
solo/private lobbies!
all the unreleased colour variants of the quickdraw club items. (i would pay so much gold for to get my grubby little hands on different variants of the rowberrow shirt).
Alternate gunbelts. I just.. I hate the way the off-hand holster sits. It’s ugly, looks impractical (i read somewhere ages ago that a holster like that is meant for when youre on horseback/sitting and need quick access, but dont quote me on that), not to mention how badly it clips through the character model, so i would gladly have paid a lot of gold to get a gunbelt that has both the holsters at the hips instead of ...that.
More horses? All the story mode characters’ horses, and the sable champange foxtrotter, the reverse few spot appaloosa, and whatever the fuck old man jones arabian is. Just... I would have loved to see some of the exsting breeds get the foxtrotter/turkoman/mustang treatment with some new colours and improved stats (ESPECIALLY the non-multiclass breeds, who only have 2-3 colours and rockstar tend to forget exist)
while on the topic of horses - more saddles and stirrups and customization options in general. I wanted some stirrups that give the +2 speed/acceleration that dont look like a huge hunk of plastic. And more colourways for the collector saddlebag. And the option to have the lantern harness without the actual lantern. And more loose/unkempt mane colourways that actually match more than one or two horses. And- And-
Properties :’( I imagine they were probably meant to be added together with the conclusion to LeClerk’s story, ending with us clearing our name and unlocking the option to buy a homestead of some sort. (Idk how fun properties would even be tbh, but i hate that it’s just never happening)
speaking of things that everyone and their mother were yelling at rockstar about since the dawn of time: HEISTS. Proper ones. That have multiple steps and multiple ways to do them. That pay well.
Some sort of gifting system between players. A shared lockbox for your posse where everyone can deposit and withdraw items or money. Actual trading. Idk, just let me give my low level friend some ammo dang it.
Revamping some areas of the map that would have been cool to see “before” how they were in story mode. Like Colter and Hanging Dog before it was abandoned, or Van Horn before the sheriff’s office burned down. They could have done a bunch of interesting things w the map if they had done more of a time skip between online and the main story.
A proper photo mode for online. Plop us into a temporary solo session and let us fuck around with poses, props, camera settings, lighting etc etc.
Also just... fix the photo booth maybe?
In general, if they’re not going to do anything with rdo, they could have turned it into more of a sandbox thingy/situation and have ended things on a better note and still opened it up for people to make their own fun.
I'll shut up now.

hiii not sure if it’s okay to ask a poi question but here it goes - i recall seeing you expressing (at least some level of) discontent with what Harold has done on the show (to root, to shaw and all those hypocritical decisions throughout). would you like to share more about your thoughts on this character? tks
always okay to ask poi questions. since the fandom is pretty small these days i was going to put my answer under a read more line so people could ignore it more easily if it’s a subject that bothers them but apparently you can’t add read more lines in ask answers? thanks tumblr! so if this is a topic that annoys anyone, please, just skip it. also, while some of this is facts or based on facts a lot of stuff is obviously my opinion and therefore not canon and not the only opinion etc etc.
in general, i wasn’t crazy about the way harold treated any of the other characters (with the exception of john who he had a pretty great relationship with). for root, there was the refusal to call her root, which i found very gross and uncomfortable (like, in general you should respect what people ask to be called, but also it was linked to the traumatic death of her childhood friend and he absolutely knew that so fuck that shit). he even said something along the lines of 'john reese is what you prefer to be called' to john right in the first episode? he was okay with using reese's fake name, but not hers because he made her identity into a power game.
he also tended to be..hmm, patronizing is the wrong word (and lbr root was extremely patronizing to everyone) but more that he treated her like ‘rehabilitating’ her was his pet project or something. i mean one thing that always struck me was his ‘what happened to you’ line in bad code and then the subsequent decision to put her in a mental institution instead of, you know, jail, which is where every other perp they ran into tended to go. he saw her as broken and flawed and in need of his help which, to me, came off as hypocritical and belittling.
also, putting someone in a psychiatric institution where they get pumped full of drugs when they don’t need to be? really fucked up! even if you argue root needed therapy/was depressed whatever, that’s not what they were treating her for. they were treating her for ‘delusions’ and ‘hearing voices’ which were...real things. like, the machine was speaking to her. harold knew that. he let her get put on all sorts of medication and put in solitary confinement and oh yes also her doctor was a really fucked up dude, something harold could easily have dug up if he’d bothered. also the whole ‘killing off a woman to advance a man’s character development thing’ is, uh, a bad trope. to put it mildly. i could write a lot more about his shit with root but let’s move on.
in some ways, his attitude towards shaw bothers me most. he consistently treats her like she’s violent and unhinged because she has aspd and despite the large amount of evidence to the contrary. she is, in fact, the most cool and controlled member of the team (not counting carter) and the least likely to go off half-cocked. shaw does play into this, but mostly only with harold and only through her words, not her actions. she knows what he thinks of her. when she’s captured by samaritan, harold gives up on her very quickly in a way he would never have done for john (and probably not for root either at that point). shaw’s reaction to sim!harold in 6741 of ‘did you even look for me’ says a lot about what she thinks he thinks of her. his whole ‘binary moral compass’ line to her is also, uh, heavily projecting. shaw and carter had the strongest moral compasses of the group. by a long shot.
moving on to the machine. so first and foremost, if you’re creating a sentient being, whether that’s having a kid or making a self-aware AI, you don’t create something with the intention of locking it up and ignoring it forever. (and he was creating her for the bush/cheney administration???? who TM pointed out was terrible if he somehow had managed to miss that. root called them something like the worst people imaginable and she wasn’t exaggerating). was it too dangerous to let TM be free from the get go? maybe! but then don’t fucking make an AI you think can destroy the world, buddy. there are a lot of reasons he made TM and none of them make this acceptable to me. once TM had clearly proven to be not a threat and trying to help he continued to ignore her and act like she was dangerous.
harold always needed very badly to feel like he had the moral high ground and not be the person who made a bad decision, which yes, is probably partly due to the trauma from what happened to nathan but that doesn’t make it okay when being paralyzed by being unable to make a decision got people killed. more than once! also, most of his morals got tossed out when they weren’t convenient. wouldn’t kill the senator to save the world because killing is bad! next episode he’s like if anything happens to grace kill all of them. cool story, still murder.
i wanna conclude this rant by talking about harold as a character vs harold as a person. meaning, harold as a fictional character who is used as a narrative device in a story as opposed to harold himself without the context of him being fictional. i don’t mind characters who say and do things i dislike. it’s very important to have characters you dislike as people imo. feels like an understatement. but lambet, for example, is a slimy asshole. the story is aware of this. he gets an ending a slimy asshole deserves. harold has a lot of flaws, and causes a lot of damage, gets his friends killed, and his stubborn refusal to budge on his arbitrary moral high ground lets samaritan take over and almost makes team machine lose. he gets a happy ending. with the woman he lied to (and caused a lot of pain and grief by lying to). root ends up dead, shaw gets tortured and fights her way back for root only to have her die which is kind of handwaved as ‘well she has tm with root’s voice good enough’, and john, after having rediscovered his will to live and have a life in the end of s4 goes right back to his whole dying for someone else thing. only harold gets the happy ending.
the show was actually pretty good at highlighting harold’s flaws and making them interesting, and then it kind of forgot that at the end in terms of story outcome. like, if harold had suffered enough to get a happy ending, then why didn’t anyone else get one? so my annoyance was with the narrative’s failure to satisfactorily conclude the characters’ arcs. (and for the record, i’m not one of the people who think he should have died. i don’t think it would have served a point. also death doesn’t equal redemption to me).
so, yeah, not a fan of him. don’t write him in my fics since my dislike would take time and focus away from writing about the people i do like. would probably be less bitter if they’d ended the show better. i was 300k words fic level of bitter. there was some post i saw going around recently about how if your found family show doesn’t end up with your found family together then you’ve kind of missed the whole point of found family and yeah, that.

On Hazbin vs Helluva
Sooooo..... this a topic I’ve been wanting to talk about for awhile, ever since the first episode of Helluva Boss came out. I’ve been putting it off because I’ve been afraid of coming off as one of those fans. And before I start I want to say that I respect the cast and crew and everything they’ve been doing. I don’t have any problem with them, but I still want to discuss the differences between Hazbin Hotel & Helluva Boss, and why I think Hazbin (even at just a pilot) has gotten a warmer reception. And I realize we’re only on the third episode of Helluva at this point, but I’m just basing this on what has been released so far.
Story & Theme
I think Hazbin has more heart to it than Helluva, for sure. The characters, the story, and the tone all has much more heart and emotional weight than Helluva. The whole purpose of the show is centered around redemption and character interaction, whereas Helluva’s is....well I don’t know. Unlike Hazbin, Helluva doesn’t have a specific purpose or story to tell. There’s no goal for the characters like there is in Hazbin, and as a result there’s nowhere for the story to go. Let’s compare the two protagonists, Charlie and Blitzo. Charlie has a clear goal set up in the pilot which the rest of the series will build on; she wants to help redeem sinners. And the show and characters give us a reason for us to want her to succeed. She’s a empathetic character; people don’t believe in her, she has failed but keeps trying regardless, she just genuinely wants to help people. And it’s not just important for Charlie to reach her goal, but for the universe itself. If she doesn’t succeed more sinners in hell will die (permanently). But what does Blitzo want? Well the show doesn’t explicitly tell us. We can assume it’s money and a successful business, but why should we care about that? The story doesn’t give us a reason to support Blitzo’s pretty shallow and selfish goals. And because there is no explicit goal for the main character there’s not much holding the show and characters together. What reason do Moxxie and Millie have for staying at their job with Blitzo? Money I guess, but is that a compelling reason to keep characters together? No, not really. There’s no overarching theme either, or at least not an obvious one. There’s no theme of redemption, or friendship, or nihilism, or what have you. There’s no theme at all. And it’s hard to develop a good series when it doesn’t have a theme, or goal, or purpose. And Helluva doesn’t appear to have any of those (so far) beyond some world building as its only clear purpose.
Characters
Blitzo is a dick. That’s not inherently a problem, but it is when that seems to be his main (and only tbh) character trait. This is even worse because he is the main protagonist, and if the main character is unlikeable, it’s going to be hard to watch the show unless the other aspects or characters make up for it. Moxxie, Millie, and Loona are fine, but we don’t get to see a lot of them. By that I mean we don’t get to see a lot of their characters; their likes, dislikes, quirks etc.) We see it sometimes with Moxxie, but not often. With the third episode we finally got to see more of Loona, and I hope the subsequent episodes bring more out of the characters like that. But Blitzo is just really hard to get past. There’s hardly anything positive to say about him. His design is cool, but his overall depiction is uh, not good. Most of what we get from him is insults and wanting to fuck his employees and DAMN is that bad.
Little off-shoot here, but Blitzo reminds me VERY MUCH of season 1 Michael Scott. And that’s not good. There’s a reason his character changed drastically in the first 2-3 seasons, and why that first season has aged pretty badly.
Maybe if there was some commentary on Blitzo's actions (like when he says the “r-word” yikes) there wouldn’t be much of an issue. Commentary and context is good and can help with theme, character arcs, and real-world parallels. But there is no commentary on the negative actions of Blizto. It’s just constant insults and violence for 15 minutes. It’s like an adult swim show, or most adult cartoons; where anything remotely “adult” is thrown at the screen just to see what sticks. Most adult cartoons are full of random violence, cursing, and offensive language just to make them “adult”. And that’s why adult cartoons are seen so poorly, because most people see them as pointless adult filler on T.V with no real purpose beyond “being adult”. And it’s sad to see Helluva fall down the same route, when Hazbin was so much more than that.
-----------------------------------
So a lot of things need improvement, and hopefully that’s done in these next few episodes. The second episode was completely different from any episode thus far, and doesn’t match up with everything I’ve said. It was an anomaly. The second episode had emotional weight, character, and a good story. It seems like a Hazbin episode stuck in the middle of Helluva. Even the tone is different. It’s more serious and has a story to tell. There are plenty of moments that tell us about the characters and it has a reason to be a part of the show. It made me want to watch more like it, and that made episode 3 a disappointment despite the nice character designs that it had. Episode 3 was more of the same; people getting stabbed, bullets in the head, pointless insults, and a plot that goes nowhere. A typical adult cartoon.
Helluva Boss seems to be multiple shorts tied together only through shared characters and a shared universe. To be honest, I think Helluva works best as shorts focused on world building, rather than a full-on series.
(Feel free to add to the discussion)
(Special thanks to @just-another-hhazbin for this post which finally inspired me to do this.

more of this! imagine that the child has reached puberty and has become more emotionally unstable/reckless/edgy/distracted from school and etc
they're trying to gain some kind of independence from their parent and do not fall for "childish" stuff anymore, so the level of tension between parent|child is high and it leads to unpleasant conflicts
how will single dad!axis&allies cope with the feeling when their child is growing up?
who would have an easier time understanding and connecting with the teen? (poor england)
Oof- poor england indeed :')
Allies and Axis Dads Dealing With Teens!
Allies:
America Realized his child was getting older the day he wanted to take them to McDonald's and tried to buy them a happy meal. When the kid turned it down Alfred immediately assumed they were sick. After talking it over with England, it turns out that every annoying bratty thing America did as a child has finally came full circle. Then when he realized they were getting older and wanting to become more independent, it made him extremely emotional. He had a bizarre mix of being awfully proud, and kind of scared. He realized that his kid could turn out just like him, and honestly even America himself saw how dangerous that was! All in all it's a solid 8/10 on the getting along with a bratty teen scale. Though he now joins Britain for more drinks over being an exhausted parent.
England had to go through this once, and was hoping it wouldn't happen again. Him and his child had verbal fights at least once a week. England was trying his hardest to understand but he was so set on "losing another child" that he forgot for a moment what was happening. He eventually calmed down after one fight in particular. His now teen wanted to hangout with some friends at a sleepover, but it was a school night. England said no and the kid spat back at him that 'uncle Alfred' would have been a better dad, and they ran off to their room. After being stunned for a second, he poured himself a drink. Eventually the two made up after England shared his feelings about the whole situation. Both the Father and the child felt guilty over the argument. From there on they both agreed to try and compromise.
France is another to get into petty arguments with his child. Most of the time it was over how the kid dressed. They wanted to branch out and find their own style. They felt like a doll and France was the little girl who picked out the outfits. Infact, France's kid felt smothered. One day France had enough and packed away the teens clothes, and then all hell broke lose. Between the insulting remarks, and a few sobs things were left in a sour atmosphere. It took a few days for them to really even talk to each other. Though France was the first to apologize. He was just scared he'd lose his pride and joy. Soon enough this lead to them going on clothes shopping, and France realized that his kid learned something important for themselves. How to be their own person, even if it's against the rest of the world. And France couldn't have been prouder.
China is probably the worst of them all when it comes down to understanding his kid during these trying times. They (affectionately) argue over the smallest things. Foods too hot and or cold? Argue about it. Why are you wearing no jacket when it rains? Another argument. Even though China argues with his kid, by the end of the day, there seems to be a silent forgiveness between them. Only once or twice did the teen run off to Japan, who very fondly understands China's way. Even so, he talks them into going back since China is all they have left, and this situation will blow over eventually.
Russia can be extremely patient when he needs to be. And let me tell you, his patience was certainly tested when his kid started going through puberty! Russia's kid has discovered how to manipulate him through his past trauma as a country. And so for a couple weeks Russia (via slightly concerned) was doing everything he could for his teen. Once someone pointed it out Ivan went through two phases. The first phase was silent parental anger. Which his kid picked up on immediately, especially after they realized they couldn't get Russia to do everything for them anymore. Then a small fight broke out between them. Russia was dealing with the sarcastic remarks up until his kid told him that he deserved to be alone. That's when Russia snapped and spat back, how he'd rather be alone than deal with a terrible little monster. Then it grew silent. And then phase two hit. Realization. Not just that his kid was growing up, but his kid was starting to develope some of his intimidating and threatening habits. Russia tries hard to be nice to others, but he was never fully aware that his antics could hurt this badly. It was a rude awakening for both the kid, and the father. Things got emotional, but it turned out for the better. Even if they still sometimes bicker.
Canada had one hell of a time dealing with a bratty teen. He hardly had it in him to punish his child, and it caught up to him. America had come over to the house and witnessed Canada's kid pretty much walk all over him. It was America who talked to Canada about tough love. And he tried it out. His kid was in shock when his phone was missing off the counter, and started to tear up when Canada explained that it was taken away until they, at the very least, talked about the difference between respect and disrespect. Canada was very close to giving into his kid's pleas to return his phone, but managed to stand his ground. Even after they talked things over. There was an akward silence between them until the punishment was over. But it was going to be a long sturggle for Canada and having to figure out how to deal with this new attitude that pops up every now and again.
Axis:
Germany is very much so a 'I will get respect or else' kind of parent. He's never had to punish his kid before, and usually has the patience of a god. Via a bit confusing sometimes with his parenting skills, but he gets by. But as soon as his teen starts stepping out of line and pushing their boundaries he straight up goes and tells them if they don't like it, tough luck. His rules his house. But with thought love comes the love part. The kid will storm off, and when dinner comes around Germany will bring them food and try to talk more about it. He'll say stuff like 'you might not like my rules, but they're there for a reason' or 'Its okay to be mad or upset, but this is how the world tends to work, and I just want to see you manage'. He really loves his kid, and tries but having two headstrong German's (adopted or not) can be a hassel. They both now understand that sometimes it's better to just walk away and cool off before discussing the topic further.
Japan isn't a real strict dad so long chores are done, and his child is happy. But then puberty hot and the kid became a completely different person. Japan sensed it right off the bat and decided to distance himself from his kid than try and make them see reason. Though this eventually hurt the kids feelings. You see, the kid began tossing out figurines and manga Japan gifted them. He didn't mind if they grew out of it, but at least give it away to another person. His pride was hurt, and it got hurt more when he caught his kid trying to sneak out of the house and run away. That's when he realized he had to deal with this head on. Even if he hated it. The worst part was how okay the teen was with just leaving. They became too dumbfounded at Japan's tears to even register why he was crying. Japan had actually fallen to his knees, quivering. He told them that if they really wanted to leave him that badly it was okay. And that whatever he did to upset them was his fault alone. It only dawned on his kid why he was acting like this when Japan mentioned something about them tossing out memories, and how he should have seen it coming. Japan's crying was a last ditch effort to try and fix what he thought was broken. His kid on the other hand had started to tear up as well, and despite any discomfort, they got done next to him and hugged him. He eventually hugged back, telling them they were his world. No one knows that the two ever struggled, especially since then they patched things up quickly.
Italy was a hot mess when his kid started asking for different foods, and wanted to spend more time away from him. Family was everything and it hurt him that his teen was pushing him away. Italy just got to the point where he accepted that it was happening. His kid started staying out late, and Italy would eat alone, but keep a plate out for his kid. Until one night his kid didn't come home. He panicked and didn't even bother calling Germany before he went searching throughout the night for his kid. So when he returned next day, heartbroken and feeling sick to his stomach, he finally gave in and cried. The door that night was carefully opened and closed and that's when the teen saw the damage they caused. Their father had a phone in hand, and a Missing person paper printed out, along with a gazillion tissues. He had passed out on the couch like this. Morning came around, and Italy just about passed out from joy and relief seeing his kid sleeping on the floor. He was so relieved that he carefully shook his kid awake, and immediately started balling his eyes out when they said 'good morning'. Many years and apologies were shed that morning. Italy had actually gave the kid a curfew, and they were only allowed to break that if they told him where they were going.
Ta-stinking-da! I had way to much trouble with these, but I think they're pretty good. Yet again gave myself the feels with this. Let me know what you guys think! ❤️

Modern Middle School Merlin
My brain is Big and I lost the ask. So good job to me. But I got an ask for modern middle school Merlin and friends, so here we go!! This is really chaotic. And wow, this is a lot longer than I thought it was gonna be. @ilovemosss and @once-and-future-dawn MY LOVELIES, THANK YOU FOR THE IDEAS
Merlin and Morgana are going through their emo phases together so they exclusively listen to MCR, P!ATD, and FOB
Everyone first thought they were dating, but now they’re the only openly gay students at the school
Merlin is crushing on the super popular kid (who is also the son of the principal), Arthur
Morgana, meanwhile is pretty much in love with her other best friend, Gwen
Merlin, Morgana, and Gwen are totally a friend group
Gwen and Lancelot are middle school theater kids in those choirs that are just bad but you don’t realize how bad they are until you’re in high school. I don’t miss middle school.
Uther is the principal. I kinda imagine him like Mr. Rooney in Ferris Beuller’s Day Off
Hunith is a total PTA mom who bakes The Best lemon bars and brings them to the meetings
She and Uther Do Not get along because she wants to encourage more school policies that would help the students and bring in speakers to educate them on certain topics and Uther is a dick and against them.
But he’s also jealous of how good Hunith’s lemon bars are
Anyways
Because Arthur is the son of the principal, he has to keep his grades up and even though everyone hates his dad, they love Arthur
Arthur’s best friends are Percival, Lancelot, Elyan, Gwaine, and Leon
Percival is that one kid who hits puberty before anyone else and towers over everyone. He’s also in band. He just gives off middle school band vibes, but not high school band, you know?
Elyan is a total science nerd
Gwaine is a TikTok kid. My mind is made up.
He’s the class clown type of person, etc.
Leon is on student council and he’s just kind of Done with middle school
Despite their different interests and groups, they’re great friends and I see them as those little 13 year olds who hang out at the skate park cause they think that they’re just So Cool
Gwen starts going to watch her brother and so she and Lancelot can run lines afterwards
She brings Morgana who brings Merlin because “You know who will be there.”
So this is how Merlin and Arthur actually meet and start hanging out, rather than Merlin crushing from afar
Gaius is the science teacher and he drinks Red Bull because he has Merlin, Arthur, Gwen, Morgana, Gwaine, Leon, Lancelot, Percival, and Elyan all in the same class (Not at all based off a real-life teacher of mine who drinks Red Bulls almost every class)
As Merlin gets older, he starts to hang out in Gaius’s classroom whenever he has free time. On rainy days, the whole gang eats lunch in there.
SCHOOL DANCES. Anyone remember those horrific middle school dances that only played one hit wonders and Justin Bieber? And the whole gym reeked of pubescent pre-teens, clip on ties, sixth grade girls in dresses that were way too old for them, and Capri Suns?
So Morgana gets up the courage to ask Gwen (Merlin gave Morgana a big pep talk before) and Gwen happily accepts
Arthur asks Merlin about a month before the dance. They’re on a field trip and Arthur hasn’t really come out to anyone yet (especially his father) but he wants to take Merlin to the dance so badly.
Merlin’s had a crush on Arthur forever, and being the only openly gay person at school, he thinks it’s a joke
Arthur gets really confused and they start arguing but Merlin finally accepts:
“So are you going with me or not?”
“Yes, you moron, I will.”
“I’m not joking- wait you will?”
“I just said that, didn’t I?”
“Oh...cool”
It’s adorable

what’s your favorite headcanon of indchu? what kind of dates do you think indchu would go on?
aaaaa sorry for taking stupid long to answer your ask! I am glad though that we are getting a resurgence in Indchu interest because they deserve it :)
(also the actual headcanon is in the 3rd paragraph... sorry about the long preamble...)
Ship asks!
tw addiction and drugs?
ooh... I already have a couple here, and while it might not be a favorite, I think the most interesting hc is their tension/awkward situation around the Opium Wars. I headcanon China to have had opium addiction starting in about the 1830s and so his head was like, sometimes perfectly clear and sometimes really foggy, which led to poor decision making, detachment from reality, etc. Also his government was kinda rotting and was another hit to his health and well being as a nation personification. Meanwhile India was grappling with the East India Company’s strengthening hold on him and the unsustainability of growing opium and other cash crops instead of actual edible stuff, and a lot of upheaval in politics as well. And when 2 people are tired, bruised, and faring badly politically, it leads to snarkiness, lashing out, and general crankiness associated with tiredness, which is a nice atmosphere for misunderstanding.
Additionally, Wang Yao is someone who’s constantly scheming and expects other people to be doing the same and looking for a way to stab their friends in the back, coercing and blackmailing to get what they want, pretty manipulative. Because India’s opium was getting shipped to China to fuel the illegal opium trade, and there were (according to Wikipedia, so I’m not sure if it’s accurate) around 7,000 British Indian troops that fought on behalf of Britain in the 1st Opium War, I think when he found out India was on Britain’s side and against him, he kinda thought India had betrayed him? China thought India had finally decided to suck up to Britain and sorta left him to fend for himself—that obviously wasn’t true, but given how Yao expects others to always be playing for their own interests AND his fog of opium addiction, he probably would’ve believed it. India on the other hand: I think he reluctantly and resentfully went along with Arthur,,, there was no choice besides to go along with the East India Co and march into China when he was ordered to. I think there was a little apprehension; India has known China long enough to realize he might feel betrayed by this, but there was nothing he could have done.
I imagine them meeting somewhere near Guangdong/Canton, probably in some restaurant/tavern and having a rather tense conversation, but one that cleared up some misunderstandings, mostly on China’s end. Yao is very hostile and sort of butt hurt at first; they start talking vaguely with all the general niceties (India: “I haven’t seen you in a long time.” “And I you.” China speaks slowly, each word falling like heavy stones in a pond. His voice is scratchier than India remembers (and he thinks about China’s flute-like laugh he’d heard, centuries ago), but the acid sharpness is still the same. He doesn’t say anything else, and the silence stretches on, a chasm of awkwardness growing between them. India clears his throat. “You look... you look-” “I know the state I am in. But thanks for the compliment, British India.” China’s voice is biting and bitter. India grimaces, perhaps from the insult of ‘British India’, which he has not accepted yet, or perhaps from China’s rebuke, but hides it almost immediately with a blank face. “You are welcome,” he says, and somehow his voice sounds sincere enough to stop it from sounding like sarcasm. And China looks up, and his face is momentarily absolved of its sour, tired expression, and for once, he looks genuinely confused.) Then they somehow travel to important topics after some food and maybe some baijiu on China’s part, and they just,,, really talk and release the tension that has resulted from not seeing each other for a long time. They talk about what’s changed, and their interactions with the West, maybe rag on England’s absurd ways of everything, and it’s a little bit of a pity party + mutual understanding + just a time to catch up on the things that have happened to both. By the end of it both of them are still assured that yes, deep down the other is still the snarky neighbor they’ve had for centuries, just perhaps a little worn, and a little ragged. They part ways, because the First Opium War will not be resolved by 2 of the 3 nation personifications involved talking it out and sharing memories over a table; India goes back to playing his part as England’s almost-colony and assistant in a war he has no interest in, and China falls back on a fog of opium and goes to see what the Daoguang Emperor has been up to and how badly his people are losing to England.
slk;fd;safdjksfkj I don’t think that was a headcanon but yeah... I just want a fic of someone exploring their interactions around the time of the Opium Wars and hope it won’t have to be me lol
As for date ideas, I think just going to a cheap restaurant (Yao is stingy and usually doesn’t really feel like paying lots for food) and people watching would be something they’d do. An alternative would be cooking each other’s food/trying new recipes/fusion cuisine at one of their houses; I know it’s very cliche, but it just feels like their thing. I don’t think they really care about romantic dates but aren’t really the type to do super fun, adventurous stuff lol; they’re both old men who don’t put any effort into dating anymore (but are still charming when they want to be; 4,000-5,000 years of living doesn’t count for nothing). But also lowkey I can see them going into a mall or something and just wreaking havoc, playing pranks on people and the poor cashier, trying on all sorts of crazy clothes, etc., or going to a flea market/open air market and just wandering around, looking at cool things, clothes, little trinkets, stuff like that
They are both magpies; sorry I don’t make the rules

Bro gimmie some Sinclair brother angst
Y e s. I had an idea, so here it is; Getting in a fight with your slasher s/o. Time to cry.
Fighting with your Slasher S/O Headcanons
Michael Myers
Fights with him are brutal. You’ll end up emotionally and sometimes even physically hurt. He has a horrible temper, and doesn’t like to be provoked, so if you provoke him you’re screwed.
He’ll lock his hand around your throat before the fight can escalate too far; simply to get to the punch, to put you in your place and not waste time.
He’s cold-hearted when he’s angry, and he’s terrifying. This is one of the few times he’ll willingly get close to you, and that’s simply to intimidate you.
If you get him to talk, or god-forbid yell at you, you’ve done something horribly, horribly wrong.
Afterwards, he’ll ghost you for days, sometimes even weeks depending on the severity of the fight. You won’t see a glimpse of him until he wants you to. You won’t hear a word, either, but you’ll know he’s there, hating you, because you can feel his eyes on your back and the threatening aura he eminates.
He’s allowed to get mad at you, but you’re not allowed to get mad at him.
Jason Voorhees
He does not want to fight you. Never ever, but if he ever lost his temper- let’s say you were pushing his boundaries, or maybe you let a trespasser escape- he’ll lose his temper.
He won’t yell or hurt you, but you can tell he’s fuming because he’ll run away and hide in the forest. If you were to follow him, you would see him shaking with rage and slashing at whatever resembled a human corpse. Anything to expel his anger.
After his initial rage dies down, he’ll cry. Again, not in front of you, never in front of you. Maybe he’ll go to the lake, the cabins, etc. But he’ll sit and sob silently into his hands for ever getting angry at you. You didn’t deserve that.
He’ll be so, so scared to go back home to you. He’ll fear that upon his arrival... you’ll be gone. That maybe his anger scared you off once and for all. If he were to ever walk in and find you crying, or scared, he’d hug you almost immediately and he wouldn’t let go for a long time.
After your fight, he won’t know whether to stick to your side like glue, or to give you space. You’ll have to be the one to initiate any physical contact, at least until the tension from the fight disappears.
Bubba Sawyer
He wouldn’t ever get mad at you, so if you were to start yelling at him he’d simply take every word like a slash from a blade. It would hurt him, but he wouldn’t even think to retaliate.
Of course you’d feel bad, any human would; especially when you see him start to cry.
He’d be scared of you. He’d flinch whenever you came too close, because with yelling always came hitting. Thats what he knew from his brothers.
It would take a long time to calm him down again, a long time to stop his shaking and whining.
When you finally do, youd better give him cuddles. So, so many cuddles.
Thomas Hewitt
Thomas would have a very difficult time controlling himself if you were to fight. With his family he was taught not to be pushed around, so it takes a lot for him not to hurt you.
Don’t get me wrong; he doesn’t want to hurt you, but it’s normal to him, he doesn’t know any better.
After the initial heat of the fight he’d go somewhere to be alone, brooding in silence.
The only way to calm him down again is to go sit with him, not saying a word. Simply placing your hand on his and waiting.
Billy Lenz
Billy doesn’t know how to deal with his emotions. If he were to get angry, he would be dangerous, to say the least.
When he’s mad, he gets twitchy, unstable. He has a hard time forming coherent sentences and will randomly break out into tears for only a minute or toe before he’s yelling again.
It takes a lot to calm him down. The best thing to do would be to stay silent and wait him out. His voice is so loud he wouldn’t even hear anything you would try to say.
After the fight he’d feel horrible. He’d cry, and beg for your forgiveness. If you don’t hug him, he’ll be even more sad, and afraid, too. Afraid you’re disappointed, afraid that you won’t want anything more to do with him.
Brahms Heelshire
For Brahms it really depends on the day. Sometimes he’ll take no shit from anyone, and he’ll snap back violently, but others he’ll stand silent, waiting for you to finish yelling.
On his feisty days, he’ll argue for hours. He’s a petty dude, so he’s always trying to get the last word in. Sometimes he can grow violent, too. He’d never mean to hurt you, and he’d try to channel his anger into other things.
He’s never been taught to deal with his rage or emotions, so he’s a loose canon. He throws things a lot, like plates or vases.
On his calmer days he’ll take every word you have to say, waiting for you to vent out your anger.
Then, he’d cry. He’d lock himself in the walls and he’d hide from you, sobbing until there wasn’t a trace of anger left in you.
When he comes back out it will take a while to earn his trust again. He’d be afraid of you. Ironic, huh?
Billy & Stu
If you were to yell at Billy, he’d try to shut you up with a kiss. It usually calmed you down, but if you were mad enough and yelled anyway, he’d react differently.
If you still yelled then he’d yell right back. He gets hostile very easily, but he’d never ever hurt you. Maybe he’d break something, but he’d never hurt you.
If you yelled at Stu he’d just stand there, waiting for you to finish before apologizing, even if he didn’t really do anything.
He’d stay 100% calm, even if your yelling made him a little heartbroken. He’d either give you space to let you cool off, or force you into hugging him until you calmed down.
Leslie Vernon
He doesn’t like being yelled at. He doesn’t like yelling, either. He prefers jokes or calm talking, not yelling. Never yelling.
To end the fight, he’ll cut right to the chase and try to brush the problem off or solve it as quickly as possible. If you were to insult him or bring up a sore topic, though... then you’re in trouble.
He doesn’t like to be reminded of his past, insulted, or called out for his mistakes, so when you do any of those he’ll look over you or slam you against a wall to get ont our face and intimidate you.
“That’s enough, (Y/N).” His voice will be stern and threatening enough to shut you right up. It wouldn’t be smart to bring up the topic later.
He wouldn’t outright apologize, he doesn’t want to bring the topic up again, but you can tell he’s sorry for scaring you because of how he’s walking on eggshells.
Vincent Sinclair
He’s used to being yelled at, so he won’t do a single thing. He’ll take the verbal abuse without batting an eye.
He’ll do his best to fix his act, afraid of the consequences if he doesn’t. The only problem with yelling at him is that now he’s associated you with Bo, and in turn, with fear.
He’ll see you as just another person who controls him. He’ll be scared to upset you so he won’t be... himself around you, he’ll be perfect Vincent who makes no mistakes and never complains about anything.
The only way to snap him out of his scared, compliant stupor would be to apologize, and even then, it’ll take him a while to go back to normal and let his guard down around you again.
Bo Sinclair
He will not take any crap. You don’t ever yell at him. A simple glare from Bo is usually enough to scare you out of talking badly.
It’s not that he doesn’t want to be called out- he really does want to hear your problems and such, but not if you raise your voice to tell him.
If you do grow the balls to yell at him, he’ll make you pay. Whether that be through his hand on your throat and rage in his eyes, or the cold shoulder for a whole week, you won’t yell at him again for a while.
Lester Sinclair
Poor Les is terrified of being yelled at. He’s always been invisible to his family, they’ve never yelled at him but he’s seen them yell at each other and it terrifies him.
He’ll go silent, he’ll keep himself together until he’s alone, and then he’ll sob his eyes out for hours. He won’t avoid you afterwards, but he’ll be so scared to mess up.
He’ll do whatever he can to keep you happy. It’ll take a few days for him to stop being so hurt.
Danny ‘Jed Olsen’ Johnson
If you yell at him he’ll cross his arms, waiting impatiently for you to finish. When you finally do, he’ll hit you with a sassy “are you done?” And an unimpressed quirked eyebrow.
As childish as that response is, it usually convinces you to storm off with a scoff to go cool off before coming back.
He doesn’t get hurt by your yelling, and he never yells back. He understands that people get angry, that’s okay.
He’ll brush off the fight and act normal the quickest out of any of the other slashers.
Norman Bates
Infinite apologies. He isn’t always sure what he’s done wrong but he won’t ever do it again.
If the yelling escalates, he’ll try not to cry. If it escalates further, he will cry. If it still escalates, he’ll snap.
Depending on the day, snapping either means storming off without a word, or shouting back with full force and setting rage.
After any form of his snapping he’ll feel horrible. You know he feels bad, because he can’t look you in the eye without them tearing up again. You don’t deserve to be yelled at.

Okay, so I haven’t seen a show that I related to legit every character like, ever, and The Owl House hit me like a truck.
As I watched (and rewatched) how each character acts and develops, I look at them and feel a connection.
Luz, the ‘weird’ girl, the outsider, the overly positive, interested, distractible, oblivious, and big hearted character. I utterly love Luz Noceda. Like holy crap. We both find oddly specific things interesting be it a specific topic or the immersion into a fandom. We both make weird jokes and get into pun wars with people (I had one go on for about an hour once...it was glorious). For a person who’s pretty negative about myself, when other people are involved, I lift them up as high as possible, even with weak nerd arms. We both get distracted easily, or are at least oblivious. I didn’t know half of the things happening around me during school, and I honestly still don’t. I’ve watched movies 50 times and realized the actual point/blatantly obvious event during the 51st. I’ve had people like me before and I never noticed until someone told me then I struggled to believe it (”What is it she sees, in this cluster clump of me?”). (Honestly the entirety of ‘Ordinary’ called me out super hard). Luz also does crazy things for her friends with the best of intentions (even if it isn’t well thought out). Her heart is so big and she sees the best in everyone, it’s just amazing. Little things she does and has said, I’ve done too (especially the ‘cool’ scene).
Amity is often misread and quiet, struggling to talk to others. She also doesn’t like others to see her emotions very much, she bottles them up and has a need to be seen in a certain way. She has to be ‘perfect’ (a song which also called me out pretty hard). I feel that deep down in my soul my dudes. I always had to have perfect grades and I still have to be perfect at everything I do on the first try (I’m working on not doing that). I was always quiet, and honestly still am. I definitely bottle up my emotions rather than let others see what’s up and I have a hard time forming coherent sentences around crushes...well...around people in general. I always felt the need to be the straight A student and the rock in my loved one’s lives (which they never expected of me so I don’t know where that came from haha) and I still kinda do. Amity also sacrifices herself for her friends (Grom...sports....must I say more?). And though I may not have sacrificed my body, I’ve protected my friends hard core. No one messes with my buds.
Eda. Oh Eda. The wild witch who ran off to live in the woods because she didn’t like school and didn’t want to commit to one coven in life. The witch who is slow to pick up on things, is chaotic, and completely weird in the best possible way. I always liked school until I was about to graduate, then I realized how it can really mess with people (see Eda running around the school pointing out the strangeness of it all). All I feel that I really learned from school was to take a test. Creativity killer sadly. Eda has a strange sense of humor and is slow to get sarcasm or that it was a joke. Same Eda, same. I also cannot commit to one coven, well, career or job for the rest of my life. I like keeping my options open. Plus I would love to build a house out in the woods nearby and be a witch. I’ve always been weird and chaotic too, but I think Eda’s weird is way more fun than my own.
King is a goofy little dude who usually has weird jokes or points of view, but sometimes is super wise. I know that I have a strange sense of humor that it seems like most of my people don’t understand, and I have been known to be wise when I’m not thinking about it...on the other hand, when I try to be wise, I stumble and say something extremely weird. He struggles with public speaking/putting himself out there (Grom) and is nervous a while before getting comfortable with it. (I hate public speaking says the kid who did musicals for 13 years, writes songs, and thinks she wants to be an author, artist, actress, or musician). I also connect with King with the fact that I freakin’ love rubber ducky stuff. I legit have a rubber ducky bathrobe (of which one of my best friends gave me as a birthday gift...it’s a bit small but it’s sososo soft I love it), I made a ducky pillowcase today to practice sewing (it’s so cute I almost cried), I have a bunch of duckies stashed away throughout the house, and my Grandma made me a ducky baby quilt for the future. Ducks! Am I right? (I’m right.)
Willow is the shy, not-so-confident plant girl. I am too a shy, not-so-confident plant girl. I legit have about 14 or 15 plants (each have a name) that I care about a lot. I don’t really remember being bullied (I know I was at least once), but I’ve definitely had my heart hurt (honestly pretty badly) by people I considered friends at that time (I won’t get into that here). I’m also a shy person who’s been working on being more confident with themselves. Plus: plants!
Gus is fascinated by specific topics and is younger than everyone else, which may make him feel a bit childish. I feel this on a personal level. I’m the youngest child on my Mom’s side and the second youngest on my Dad’s. I was the baby and I don’t think I got to do much with the older kids (you’re too young so we don’t wanna play with you kinda thing, etc. [which is totally fine and I get 100%]) Though I may be older than all of my friends, I still feel like a child compared to nearly all of them. They’re all so smart and put together, and I’m not. I’m also fascinated by specific topics that others may not know or care to know much about (for Gus, it’s humans, for me, it’s a lot of things).
Edric and Emira are pretty similar to my sister and I. We aren’t twins, we didn’t always get along, and we rarely had shenanigans or pranked like these two do, but as we got older, we understood each other better and our relationship is basically being there for one another and really bad puns.
Hooty...well...I suppose we share the fact that we both make up songs and are bored a lot...definitely not that we’re both owl tubes.....*nervous laughter*
Owlbert and I share the quiet helpfulness trait...plus we’re both adorable.
(Some of these go deeper than others but the point is there’s still a connection).
Goodness gracious I love this show.
I haven’t laughed at a show this hard since Good Omens last year.
I love when I can connect with characters. It makes me happy.

Reviewing Cursed (Netflix)
Tumblr media
So I finally jumped on the bandwagon for this show and I’ve got some thoughts: (spoilers)
Bad Stuff:
For all the hype I’ve read about the show, I was expecting the main lead to be at least more than she was. Nimue was a disappointment and honestly is one of the weaker parts of the show.
The 2nd weakest part being Nimue x Arthur relationship
And I’m not going to even start on the effects in this show, JESUS
While I don’t necessarily blame the hollowness of Nimue’s character on the actress Katherine, (I will say the reason it took me a while to get into this show was because Katherine has 13 reasons why stamped all over her still in my head) I do think she handled some of Nimue’s scenes a bit... awkwardly.
Case in point: Her first interaction with Arthur
Tumblr media
^But honestly, this wasn’t that horrible when you look to the effects the show used to make this show “graphic”
All the bloody gore they showed was done so badly that I scoffed more than  grimaced.
^Also can we just point out that when Nimue strung up that red paladin in vines, they made it seem like it was horrible and prime gore material when in reality it looked like a cheap set piece... what a let down
Now lets chat this up a moment:
Tumblr media
We all know how the King Arthur tale goes. He marries Gwenevere who then G cheats with Lancelot (more of him in a moment) etc. I feel for Nimue from the get go when I noticed how quick they were to use her to glow up Arthur... like seriously?
What girl would start a relationship with Mr. Goody (to the point where he is boring) when her life is literally turning to shatters in all directions? All male writers red flag
And while we are on the topic, Arthur-sir, you are the most annoying and basic good guy I’ve watched in some time. Not only does he seem to be too good to the point that its unrealistic, they seriously played off him stealing Nimue’s sword as an okay thing to do... Sir no.
Devon portrays all the characteristics of King Arthur perfectly, but I feel like if Arthur is to progress into becoming a king, we should be seeing him making mistakes and learning so as to become the great ruler he will one day be. (writers take notes please)
We need some dirt in that perfect persona he carries
Also known as Weeping Monk
Good Stuff:
Let me just start by putting this magnificent thirst trap right here:
Tumblr media
I’ve got to hand it to Daniel Sharman, he has a very loyal fanbase that seems able to carry THIS ENTIRE SHOW on their shoulders.
Like honestly, I looked through plenty of content on various apps and the Weeping Monk is blowing through social media like wild fire.
And for good reason too:
-he’s an attractive dude playing the gothic misguided character (serious cliche but highly effective)
-he’s one of the few characters with an interesting character arch (so far)
-he’s Lancelot (hello ladies man)
-he’s great with kids *swoon*
-and don’t get me started on that entrance in ep1 (the writers knew what they were doing)
I’m going to write another post at some point to address why I don’t think he is a toxic, manipulative character that just so happens to be romanticized because of looks (as is seen so far). So watch for that if that interests you. Post in Question
But to tie this off, Daniel Sharman is a fantastic actor and I hope we get more of him next season.
And, no, it’s not just because he is visually pleasing to the eye (but god bless guy liner)
I feel like the writers have suspended his meeting with Nimue to the point were we are all shipping the pair of them together, when it’s possible that they may have a different bond, closer to that of Lancelot and the Lady of the Lake in classic lore
But if they hook up I will still be very pleased ngl
Other things I really loved in this show:
Tumblr media
-Pym (her time in the viking ship as a healer was prime humor) but I’m pissed she doesn’t end up with the hot viking because unlike our main couple of the show, these two had chemistry for the short scenes they shared together.
-Merlin (The moment I saw Gustaf Skarsgård in the trailer, I started the first ep. I loved him as Floki in Vikings and wanted to see him in other things) I was pissed that the writers made him seem... boring.
-I was happy with how Merlin opened up to us as a father to Nimue. Nimue just needs to get her shit together and learn from him because we all know she’s powerful, she just needs to work on it.
Watch the writers get lazy and just magically having her cast all sorts of powerful magic just because once upon a time she manipulated an apple tree
-SQUIRELL (I loved him from his first scene)
-the Widow! She was the perfect middle ground for a character and her voice was strangely motherly (and I LOVED IT!) While I know Morgana becoming the widow was a great power play and all that, I miss the original widow.
-Morgana’s general storyline was great considering what happens in the lore. I expected her to go evil the moment her sweet love (that poor nun!) came from the dead with burn marks and talked about being powerful. I’m glad they didn’t push that on her so quickly. They should let that storyline fester a bit more. She’s too great a character to turn to the dark yet (unless they pull a complete 180 of the Weeping Monk)
Tumblr media
-Awesome baddies- And by that I mean Iris and the head monk that came to a very satisfactory end in ep 10. Also, props to the show for making the Pope a quick to anger tyrant and his second in command being a literal weasel. 10/10  villain act right there. With these villains in play, it’s easy for Weeping Monk fans to see the light in him, thus driving his character arch.
-The Christian themes. This may be surprising to some, especially if you are like me, a christian (I’m catholic). But honestly, I loved how they took snippets of Christian history and flipped it to create a complicated power in this show. By this I mean, the red monks act a lot like the holy orders in Catholicism back during the Crusades and the nuns act as healers and helpers to those that ask for sanctuary (the Abbess kept her mouth shut about Nimue, even when she was at risk) - thats what the core of Christianity is supposed to be, and I’m glad they made religion complicated through the monks and nuns.
-Red Spear/ vikings- cool concept to add vikings to the story and the red spear is a bad ass. I hope we dive further into her storyline next season (I expect so given the rumors I’m hearing about how she is supposedly Gwenevere)- If that’s true, I’m worried the writers are going to ruin the relationship G is supposed to have with Lancelot, solely because both characters are more Alpha energy than Beta, and we all know how that goes...
Tumblr media
Maybe that’s why Red Spear’s interaction with Arthur was so great. He screams beta and I’m all for it.

more scattered naruto thoughts now that we’ve finished season 8 -
[spoiler policy disclaimer first, as always: I am watching naruto for the first time and have only gotten up to the end of season 8 (after pain destroys the hidden leaf village).  i am trying to avoid spoilers, so please don’t interact with this (tags included, because the notifications now show them to me automatically) with any spoilery commentary, including even general things like “oh i love this show but it gets less good after X point” or “X season is better than Y season” or any general assessments of quality/likability/etc re: future seasons.  Thank you! <3 ]
- i like the way S8 ended.  i know that in real life maybe it wouldn’t be so feasible to just talk your enemy back to the light, but honestly, i don’t care.  i love that shit.  i love stories when people refuse to hurt the people who hurt them first, and then their seemingly inconceivable choice to refrain from striking back creates a connection (it’s the ‘return of the jedi’ effect, folks).  i understand that it doesn’t work like that in real life most of the time, and i don’t recommend it for real life people trying to defend themselves, but i do love it in fiction.  i LOVED how naruto went in pursuit of nagato to talk to him, not fight him.  even though naruto says straight-up “i can’t forgive you” / “I want to kill you so badly i can’t stop shaking” - he still recognizes that his enemy is someone who’s been victimized, and he has enough compassion to feel pain on their behalf even when he himself is reeling from having his entire home destroyed and both of his teachers murdered by the person he’s confronting.  his choice to control his (valid) rage and extend a hand in compassion is ultimately what changes the outcome and saves everyone who would have died, reversing the damage that was done, and i love that shit.
- absolutely adore yamato abandoning his own mission and taking off at a run to try and help naruto when he senses that naruto is losing control over the nine-tails.  this man thought he was just a substitute teacher for a while there, but he’s become part of the family while he wasn’t looking.
- HINATA.  oh my god i couldn’t even enjoy this incredible moment because i was so stressed out (and angry, at the time, because i really thought they were going to kill her, and that would’ve crossed my line).  i want to watch this again knowing that she’s fine, because my anxiety over ‘fuck fuck fuck they’re actually going to kill one of the kids’ precluded me from even appreciating it appropriately.
- there’s been a lot of talk on this show about how sakura doesn’t have as much chakra as naruto or sasuke, but she heals people non-stop the entire time Pain is attacking and doesn’t show any signs of running dry.  SHOW HER SOME RESPECT.
- CHOOOOOOOOJIIIIIIII!  omg.  i was so afraid that his father was actually dead, and SO RELIEVED that he was okay.  you can’t do that to choji!!!
- also relatedly, how much do i adore choji for caring so much about kakashi?  <333 i mean this kid is there sobbing over his dead body, and then he bursts out crying when kakashi comes back to life - i really appreciate these little ties between characters who aren’t always in close quarters but who do have a relationship.  kakashi has been a teacher to ALL of the kids, and team 10 especially feels indebted to him - the respect and affection they all feel for him is very real.
- first time i actually thought ‘ok he’s cool’ with regard to minato was when he talked to the nine-tails so unfazed like “he’s a loudmouth.  let’s go somewhere more quiet.’  i’ve been kind of so-so on his character so far, but i liked this.
- also later in that scene - the (rare) scenes we’ve seen where naruto totally breaks down absolutely kill me.  it happened once when gaara was dead, and then there’s another moment in this episode when he’s talking to minato - whoever voices him does just incredible work in those moments, and it is SO PAINFUL to me because naruto is always such a happy kid the rest of the time and eternally optimistic and positive and excited and popping back up every time he falls down, and so when he cracks it is just devastating to see.  i hate seeing him cry like that.
- similarly - that shot of sasuke at the end of the itachi arc wrecked me.  naruto’s breakdowns are upsetting, but at least he allows himself to have them - when he gets pushed past a breaking point, he explodes.  he cries and yells and spills every single thought in his head in front of everybody who’s around him, and after it’s done, things get better.  he’s with people who care about him.  he’s venting and making himself understood, and he always finds his equilibrium again.
sasuke, though, has been completely locked down ever since we saw him sneak out of the hospital to wander around the scene of his community’s mass murder, and he’s still locked down now, even crying all alone at the edge of the ocean.  this moment isn’t cathartic.  it isn’t a release.  this is barely even a sliver of what this kid has going on inside him, and it looks like it’s agonizing for him to even let that much out.
- the scene where naruto is about to give up and give in to the nine-tails’s power...that exchange!!!!!!!
i don’t know.  it hurts.  i hate this.  i don’t know.  what should i do.  i don’t know anything anymore.  someone...please help me.  give me...an answer.
destroy everything.  erase anything that causes you pain.  give me your soul, your spirit, your vital essence.  give it to me, and in exchange, i will rescue you from your pain.
this whole exchange is amazing.  the way naruto says ‘it hurts’...this is one of those scenes that expands to cover so much more ground than just what’s onscreen at that moment.  what naruto overcomes here is precisely the trap that sasuke has not been able to escape.  sasuke has never had any framework for dealing with pain that isn’t about pursuing vengeance.  it’s the only way he thinks he can free himself from his pain - by putting all of his energy into destroying the people who hurt him.
but it becomes an endless cycle, because he never succeeds.  itachi dies and sasuke feels worse than ever, so he turns his attention to the hidden leaf in an attempt to finally kill what’s hurting him.  but even if sasuke were to raze the entire village to the ground, his pain would still be with him, and he’d then have to turn his attention to yet another target, because the alternative would be to recognize that he can’t escape his pain by destroying the things that hurt him, and that’s not something he’s able to accept right now.  he’s spent half his life fixated on the idea that revenge can rescue him from how terrible he feels, and abandoning that idea now would mean that nothing can save him.  it would mean that he’s going to hurt like this no matter what he does.
kakashi tried to warn him about this.  he tried to tell sasuke that even after getting his revenge, sasuke wouldn’t feel better, that he’d only tear himself apart trying to achieve something that would leave him feeling empty - but sasuke was too entrenched in his own warped thinking to believe it.  and ever since then, sasuke has been in the company of people who are happy to let him dig himself deeper and deeper into a self-destructive hole as long as it benefits their agenda.  they don’t care if he’s hurting himself.  they’re happy to see him suffering.  his pain is a tool they can use.
- a note re: kakashi, when it comes to this topic -
i think it’s relevant to remember that kakashi never tells sasuke not to pursue revenge because it’s “wrong” or ethically questionable.  he never delivers any moralizing speeches in the vein of “if you kill someone who victimized you, you’re just as bad as they are.”  kakashi doesn’t think it’s wrong if itachi dies, and if sasuke were in a better state of mind, he probably wouldn’t even mind if sasuke were the one to kill him.  that’s why kakashi is comfortable helping team 10 pursue asuma’s killers, after all - because they’re not unbalanced by rage or making self-destructive decisions; they’re acting with clear heads and pursuing a course of action that needs to be taken anyway (asuma’s murderers are on their way to the leaf to capture naruto - they need to be dealt with regardless).  team 10′s kids can handle that mission - they’re thinking straight.  they’re comfortable accepting adult guidance.  they’re grieving, but they’re okay.
sasuke is not.  sasuke has been deeply traumatized since he was a very young child, and encouraging his quest for vengeance is equivalent to validating all of the fucked-up thought patterns that are hurting him so badly - that it was his responsibility (as a seven year-old child) to protect his clan, that he was weak and cowardly for running away, that he needs to take itachi down as penance for failing to save his family, that killing itachi is the only way for him to justify his childhood survival, that killing itachi will free him from his pain.  for kakashi to encourage any of these false convictions would be irresponsible and, ultimately, harmful to the child he’s supposed to be looking after.  if sasuke gets his revenge on itachi, he’s just going to be left with the horrifying realization that his pain hasn’t lessened even the slightest bit, except that now he also has to deal with the additional trauma of killing someone he used to love.
kakashi doesn’t discourage sasuke from revenge because Revenge Is Morally Bad and You Are Morally Bad For Pursuing It; he discourages sasuke from revenge because in this particular case, sasuke’s fixation on revenge is hurting him.  it’s unhealthy for him, and it will cause him worse pain in the future if he allows it to continue driving his life.  sasuke is never going to feel better if he doesn’t stop distracting himself from his pain by focusing solely on vengeance.  if he’s ever going to actually be rescued from his pain, he needs to face (and FEEL!!!) his grief, which is precisely what staying fixated on revenge allows him to avoid.
- relatedly: i just.  am SO sick.  of all these horrible people.  getting their hands on sasuke.  and using him for their own ends.  when he has already been manipulated and victimized all his life.  it makes me wanna SCREAM!!!!  and i know that’s the point; we are supposed to be frustrated by this - but - hrnghghgnh
and like - it’s not like sasuke doesn’t know it’s happening!  he’s not stupid!  he knows the people around him are using him, and he just tries to use them back and play them before they play him, and he accepts that this is what his life is going to look like, and because he survives, he thinks he’s in control, but he has NO IDEA how far over his head he’s in now.  and besides, he never stops to think that maybe his life shouldn’t look like this.  he has no conception of ‘someone should be taking care of me.’  he’s never seen himself as a child who needs protection - he’s never seen himself as a child, period.  it’s why he’s such a brat to the other kids, and it’s why he never calls kakashi ‘sensei.’  he thinks of himself as an adult.  he has adult problems.  he can’t connect to children his own age because he can’t connect to the idea of childhood - his childhood was stolen from him, and with it went any conception of refuge or safety or the fact that relentless self-sufficiency and a constant cycle of using/being used by other people isn’t in fact what his life is supposed to look like.
i am continually infuriated by all of these people who have abdicated their responsibility as adults and chosen to exploit an already exploited kid, one who is too messed up to save himself or let anybody else help him.  none of these people care about him.  they all want to use him for something.  they’re happy he’s in pain, because his pain is what enables them to manipulate him.
the people who DO truly want to help him are the same people he’s desperately trying to avoid.  the only adult sasuke ever had a meaningful and non-manipulative relationship with is the same adult he keeps running away from.  and the only two people his own age who ever actually knew anything about him or cared if he was okay are the two people he keeps pushing away.
there is, perhaps, a lot to be said about how sasuke continually runs away from the people who actually care about him and instead affiliates himself with people he’ll never have to worry about forming a connection with.  “having too many ties in this world just holds you back” - sure, and having no ties protects you, too.  nobody to love you, nobody to know you, nobody you can ever lose.

Sell me on TMA i have all the time in the world rn by my executive dysfunction refuses to start things without help.
first off i really feel the struggle youre having here starting new things is. awful. i just cant tbh
okay: why to listen to TMA, under a cut because why not.
tldr? its good quality, low emotional investment is demanded of you to start due to the simple nature of its algorithm and the gradual story/world building, the writing is interesting and the episodes are short with good atmosphere. if spooky gets to you too badly, dont worry because theres a trigger warning list somewhere on the internet, and the writing is respectful.
tma selling points:
its good and consistent quality from the beginning. its a simple answer but honestly the hardest part of getting into new stuff FOR ME is the first few episodes where im Put Off by trying to understand this new tone, all while the creators are still figuring out what theyre doing which... makes for a rough start sometimes.
tma has a very simple algorithm. dude named jonathan sims is working at a place that collects peoples accounts of “possibly supernatural encounters”, he’s recording himself reading off the story, (or its a recording direct from the person), he tells you what research they’ve done on the subject, the end. here and there you get to hear about the stuff thats going on at the place jon works at, building a second layer of storytelling to the whole thing. its fun, its easy to listen to, and
you dont have to get super invested right away. just turn on this podcast where they, in like idk twenty minutes?? tell you about something Scary that happened to Someone Else and that has no effect on you or your life but still has all the chilling atmosphere and Very good writing that makes it an enjoyable time. i mean YEAH it gets scarier and more personal later but by then youre ready for it.
this one is a personal note but, like, i get it. its intimidating seeing the fandom being So Passionate because it gives the message that you too!! have to gear up to get super into this wonderful fantastic compelling emotional heartbreaking story uwu. nothing wrong with fandom being passionate thats....... what its there for...... but that specifically has made it hard for me to get into new things before.
just let yourself enjoy it at your own pace tbh. i really enjoyed it before i got overwhelmed by fandom stuff and took a very long break but like. block all the tma tags, hit play, and have fun. thats my advice.
you get to hear someone try to sound spooky while reading off the required licencing info at the end of the podcast and its pretty funny but endearing
the writing is good. the voice acting is good. jonny sims knows his stuff and he really enjoys what he does and it comes out in what he creates.
if you dont like one or more of the stories/statements? look up the triggers list for the episodes to get mostly spoiler free warnings. or skip the statement part of the episodes you dont Vibe With and just listen to the bits at the end where you get to hear about jonathan sims and friends wacky adventures. yes the creator is named jon sims and the person he voices in this podcast is also named jon sims. sorry.
others have said this but i will too: its respectful horror.
no sexual assault, misogyny, racism, able-ism, homophobia, etc is used as a punchline or as the shock factor. aka the main reason i dont care about the comedy or horror or... lots of other movie genres. its just not funny. literally the first statement that even mentions sex is this guy going “yeah we were both totally on board but she seemed to be going through some personal stuff and so i kept checking she was cool with it, i wanted to be respectful” and then cutaway to afterwards.
or like. theres a statement with a characters with a skin picking disorder WHICH is like. hm. a triggering topic for a lot of people but also my favorite statement there is. as someone with a skin picking disorder, i was Not Expecting to have to confront This Subject and so was a little taken aback at first like. no one talks about this stuff yanno. but i personally didnt find it disrespectful, or misinformed, or too triggering. which. idk man good for jonny for making that Work.
executive dysfunction hates starting new things like oil and water so if you dont listen to it because your brain simply is Not ready to lease space to a new podcast yet? thats cool too. if you do though i hope you enjoy it because its a good podcast and it makes you think which like, right now? i think we could all use more stuff in our lives that keeps our brains active and thinking.
