云上五骁 — to touch the heart
* all dialogue is in cantonese jyutping, review end for translations
Tumblr media
with your chopsticks, you grabed a piece of har gow and placed it on jing yuan's plate. it was just like yesterday that he was a young boy, hes grown up so much
"ah, do ze"
jing yuan thanked, making you simply nod your head with a smile before turning your attention to yingxing and baiheng. they were already arguing about who is gonna pay the bill when none of you guys were even finished eating
"bei ngo zou! ngo jau cin"
baiheng insisted, not realizing how loud she was as she was too busy trying to convince yingzing to let her pay the bill
"mou, mou, ngo ho ji" yingxing shook his head, waving his hands in front of him
"me cin?"
dan feng quietly asked in a sarcastic voice, earning a giggle from you baiheng and yingxing probably would have gone on for much longer but luckily jingliu finally spoke up
"mou gong laa. sik sin. ngo bei cin"
jingliu sighed and shook her head, akin to that of a mother scolding her children. jing yuan giggled before eating the har gow you had given him, eyes closing as he enjoys the savory taste of the shrimp
"tim sam, nei bei cin hai ma?"
you asked dan feng with a whisper. dan feng hadnt reply with words but rather a nod. you looked over to see jingliu staring at dan feng. her gaze wasnt cold, but one of acknowledgment
well, in your current predicament you cant really say jinglius stare was so kind now
Tumblr media
多謝 (do1 ze6) - thank you
畀我做! 我有錢 (bei2 ngo5 zou6! ngo5 jau6 cin4) - let me do it! i have (the) money
冇, 冇, 我可以 (mou5, mou5, ngo5 ho2 ji3) - no, no, i can do it
乜錢? (me1 cin4?) - what money?
冇講啦. 食先. 我畀做 (mou5 gong2 laa1. sik6 sin1. ngo5 bei2 cin4) - dont talk about it. eat first. ill pay
甜心, 你畀做係嗎? (tim4 sam1, nei5 bei2 cin4 hai6 maa3?) - sweetheart, did you already pay?
har gow / 蝦餃 (haa1 gaau2) is a shrimp dumpling basically
the title is in reference to dimsum (点心) as it directly translates to "touch the heart" [was gonna use 飲茶 (jam2 caa4) but didnt get to]

Today I got all my morning activities done quickly because I have plans to go out for lunch with my family. We ate dimsum after a long time!
💌 translating notes: Korean sentence structure is actually less intuitive for me than Chinese, but because i know more vocabulary and i'm more familiar with the language overall, it feels easier. but with Chinese, if i have the words, it's suddenly so easy! 我很惊讶了! (I was so surprised!)

Lantern Rite 2024 [Cultural Observations]
Tumblr media
Nothing overtly spoilery but tagging just to be safe.
Speech distinction between Adepti and Mortals: - Formal speech patterns very similar to Wuxia novels that Xingqiu reads, rather fond/quick to compare things to historical events or past interactions - Subtle separation in terms of referring to themselves ( commonly done in depictions of deities): 本仙 ( loosely translated as 'One'),仙师/上仙 (respectful term for upper ranking deities) > remember Xiao's reaction when Zhongli jokingly said he should be calling him that during the last lantern rite?
Traditional Chinese cultural beliefs and practises that are done irl:
-Referring to older folks as "Aunty" and "Uncle" despite not being blood-related as a form of respect (very large emphasis on remembering each 'role' someone has in the family - generally if your family is super traditional, you'd only call someone by their names if they are younger than you) - Enjoying reunion dinners during Lunar New Year Eve/ viewing the lunar new year as an occasion for celebrations together with family -Releasing kites in the form of sending well wishes to the skies, sending off past regrets/starting afresh - Tong sui (Cantonese pronunciation), 糖水 (chinese), refers to desserts that are sweet soup or custard. Different regions have different specialties. Some of which are: sesame paste, sweet potato soup, mung bean soup, red bean/green bean soup etc
- Dimsum (Cantonese pronunciation), 点心 (chinese) is often eaten either for breakfast or brunch. Another popular breakfast would be congee with fried dough and century egg.
-舞龙舞狮 performances are considered a very popular thing and are often seen in grand festivals/celebrations as well as the opening of a shop as it is said to bring in auspicious luck. In fact, it has led to the formation of performance troupes as an official career. There are also pretty big international competitions formed for lion dancing too. -Tea eggs, moon cakes, Tau Sa Piah and all are tasty snacks and if you don't like them...how dare you break my heart/J -WINTER MELON CAKES ARE SO GOOD. But instead of a conventional cake, they're more of a pastry/flaky like texture with filling on the inside. They're also called 老婆饼 (wife pastry) to my amusement. Naturally, there's also a 老公饼 (husband pastry) counterpart too.

Many of our compatriots in the Mainland believe that the huaqiao [note below] are all capitalists. Even the relatives in our hometown [Tangshan] look upon the fanke [the Hokkien term denoting lamnang, "our people," who had left China to make a living in a foreign land; literally, visitors or guests in a foreign land] as landlords and feel that going abroad is the path to prosperity. They do not understand the truth about the huaqiao. Of course there are huaqiao capitalists, but they are few in number. Eighty to ninety percent of the huaqiao are laborers, and a majority of them are small-time vendors, storekeeprs, workers, and peasants. They scrimp on food and other necessities in order to save money and return home and support their families.
[Lagalag sa Nanyang (Nanyang Piaoliuji) ni Bai Ren, salin ni Joaquin Sy. Galing sa yugtong Introduksiyon ni Caroline Hau.]
Lagalag sa Nanyang (Nanyang Piaoliuji) by Bai Ren, translated by Joaquin Sy. Excerpt from the Introduction by Carioline Hau.
Note: Huaqiao for the most part of its hundred-year history connoted enforced migration or exile, with additional meanings of official protection extended to Chinese abroad as well as self-conscious patriotism among the Chinese abroad, expressed as "cultureal" commitment to remaining "Chinese" or restoring one's "Chineseness". [...] It has also been applied to settlers who are foreign subjects.
I found this interesting. It corresponds with the stories our yaya told us of her father, who was born in 1900s Southern China (which province, she doesn't know) and migrated to the Philippines around the first quarter of the 20th century, leaving behind a family. He was very poor and sold siomai and other dimsum, I believe. He couldn't marry my yaya's mother because there were laws prohibiting the marriage of Chinese people and Filipinos.
According to Caroline Hau's introduction, author Bai Ren (real name Wang Jisheng, also a poet, novelist and dramatist) was born in Fujian in 1918. He migrated to the Philippines in 1933, traveling through Visayas then Manila in Luzon. He returned to China in 1937.

✶ 11:11 pm ; choi taeyang / theo.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
synopsis. accidentally overhearing taeyang's conversation on the phone with his friends, he states that he's embarrassed to be in a relationship with you and in a fit of betrayal, you confront him.
info. angst. choi taeyang x gn!reader [ they / them prns ]. 580 words.
warnings. embarrassed of partner + relationship (?), crying, break up, grammatical + structural errors, lowercase and smaller text intended, uses "don't" + "stop" a lot LOL
Tumblr media
"you're what?" you ask in pure shock, eyes quickly turning glossy. all the boy in front of you did was shake his head no, tears starting to form in his eyes.
"no, say it." your voice turning stern as tears start to fall. taeyang closes his eyes, head tilted downwards and afraid to meet your gaze.
tears freely fall as you await his answer, silence consumes the two of you. gaining your answer from his lack of words, you let out a scoff, grabbing your belongings before beelining to the door.
panic sets in as he frantically starts waving his hands and saying 'no' repeatedly, and for you to 'sit down'. you continue your way out of the now stuffy apartment, ignoring the pleas of your boyfriend behind you.
getting sick of his excuses and sorry attempts to get you to stop walking, you snap at him.
"tae, no! you don't get to say all these sweet things like it's going to be okay afterwards. you said yourself that you're ashamed of being with me. you're ashamed of me." you wail out, tears blurring your vision.
taeyang's heart shatters as he watches the love of his life crumble in front of him. your once twinkling, and radiant light soon dimming down to a dark, gloomy gray.
and it was all because of him.
he runs over to you, enveloping you in his arms. he whispers how sorry he is, and how much he loves you. his words began swirling, leaving your brain to mush in a matter of seconds. your sobs get louder as you cry into his chest, his hands rubbing soothingly on your back.
"don't go, please stay." he reasons with you, practically begging you to not leave him in more ways that physical. you shake your head no before pushing him off you. he stumbles backwards, shock written on his face as he attempts to hug you again.
putting a hand up to his chest to push him away but he places his hand over yours, allowing you to feel his heartbeat.
how it beats only for you.
you hang your head low, before whispering a soft 'stop.' taeyang's sobs wrack through the room. he falls to his knees before grabbing your waist "please, i love you. i'm so sorry!" he sobs out as he tries to stop you from walking out the door.
you free yourself out of his vice-like grip, your eyes swirling with something he's never seen before. not going without a fight, taeyang stands up and tries to walk over to you.
"no, tae. don't!" you shout. he's never heard you talk to him in such a way, this is the first time he's been on the receiving end of your harsh words. it takes him aback, stopping in his tracks as he watches you swiftly walk away.
he doesn't know what's keeping him from running to you, but his body just won't move. almost like he's not in charge of it, he can't move on his own account.
taeyang watches in horror as your figure becomes smaller and smaller as you walk away. "there's no way" he thinks, fooling no one, including himself.
it soon dawns on the raven-haired boy that he has ━ had something beautiful, and he was the cause of it's destruction.

Note
i know it's old and idk if anyone has said this yet, but the language/names used in the huli jing fic you wrote is mandarin, not cantonese. you're unlikely to find cantonese romanization anywhere (even online) unless its "dimsum" or other food items
Yeah, I think at least one person has mentioned that. I'll be honest, I had to use a translator to make it work ages ago since i dont speak any form of Chinese, and I dont even remember what the phrases are now (i should have kept a translation somewhere but I didn’t think sbout it at the time). I've been meaning to go back and fix it, but I kept forgetting. I'll go and fix it now, since you've reminded me. 🥰 Thank you!

Celebrating my birthday; cleaning the room, going to periplus to buy a gift for myself, visiting dear eleanor to taking picture of my older self, journaling. Spending the last day of the year in work with a full heart. Meeting mbak flos' warm and beautiful family.
See, it's not a bad year after all. Of course, there are lots of tears, mental breakdown, fears, worries, and hurting myself and people around me. But you gotta experience lots of things, spend your days with your loved ones, going to places you never go before, eating lots of good food. Making connection with people. Buying and collecting lots of cute stuff. Enjoying lots of good films, music, books, and another form of art. So maybe this mundane and mediocre life, is good enough.

Idea for an app.
One of the projects this semester is to present an idea for an app. For the last 2 weeks, we’ve been learning some basic principles of design for an app. Recently, I’ve presented an app that I liked to my class. I chose an app called “Groovepad”. The app allows users to create their own music from the variety of genres and styles they have prepared. One of the pros in this app in my opinion is that the main feature, the pad itself looks very intriguing to me as each section of the pad intrigues me into touching the pad to hear what sound it makes. However, a con I’ve recently figured out is that the app may be a little too busy looking. the main screen in filled with the selections which have quite a lot of colours in their design so the app may feel like something younger audiences would be interested in instead of an older demographic.
Tumblr media
After learning about brand guidelines and some concepts about designing an app, I needed to think of an idea for an app. While I do not think it is a very original design for an app, I’ve thought up of a journal based app. I’ve been using an app called “DailyBean” which allows users to record their day to day status. In terms of functionality, I do feel that the app is a bit limited in its choices for some categories. So I’ve been thinking of implementing a system where users can record what type of shows they’ve watched, games they’ve played or dishes they ate and also note anything special that happened to them on a certain day.
One little feature which I think would be unique from other journal apps is the ability to share the journal with other users in the app if they want. Maybe the app could be a mix of a journal and a social based app like Facebook. I believe that users are able to share their experiences with others and to learn from one another with this feature. For example, in the meals section I’ve thought about recording the dishes made by users and allow them to write down the recipes and procedures which may allow other users to learn about some potentially new or creative recipes or users can share their experiences watching a show they like. So in terms of functionality I envisioned that it would sort of be a mix of a journal and a diary.
That’s all I’ve got for now in terms of features, as for name choices, I’ve thought up of the phrase “I think therefore I am” or “cogito, ergo sum” . And I’ve thought of naming the app “Daysum” which is just combining the word day and “sum” which means “to be” in latin. It may sound stupid because it sounds like Dimsum but spelt wrong in my opinion but I thought the translation to “day to be” sounds neat. Another alternative name I’ve thought up of is “SumDay” which is a play on “some day”. Since the app function is to basically chronicle the events of a day I’ve thought of mixing “sum” and “day” together which results in the name meaning “summing up the day”.

[Open Your Mouth] Chapter 3 - O
See previous chapters here: AO3 | Tumblr
Summary: She downs her mimosa in one long drink and snaps her fingers. The television shuts blank, and she sashays her way to a room. It looks just like any other wall partition but it opens to an expansive study. It has a day bed on the side, a long table, and her most comfortable swivel chair. Metallic chairs are folded on the side for her clients.Taking up the rest of the space are shelves filled with her favorite books. In the middle, sandwiched by volumes of Crime and Punishment and Les Miserables are jars of teeth submerged in liquid, white, sparkly, well-maintained. On the other end of the wall is a chest box which also functions like a wide ottoman. Except that it isn’t. It’s a freezer for the meat she has yet to eat.

“Open your mouth please.” Her bright emerald irises pop out from her mask as she probes the inside of his mouth. Sasuke feels the metal tool scrape against his tooth on the lower left. His tongue is on the edge of making a clucking sound, but he winces from a sharp pain when she moves his tooth from front to back.
“It’s loose,” she confirms for him. He recognizes notes of jasmine in her proximity. “I can extract it for you now. You’ll just have to spend the rest of the day under pain killers.”
He dropped by her clinic during his lunch break, intending to take up her offer in the off chance that she accepts walk-ins.
Of course, it was situated on the 25th floor of one of Senju’s high rise buildings which houses their offshoot businesses in the medical field; one floor for every niche – a chiropractor on the tenth, a hair transplant on the 17th, herbal practitioners on the 20th.
Of course, the brunette receptionist with a very sharp eyeliner sent him away, and looked at him pointedly with visible annoyance when he brought up that the dentist offered the appointment herself. People often tell him he’s handsome, and he gets to use this pretty privilege during the conduct of cases sometimes. But people here are immune to his so-called stoic charm.
Of course, it’s probably because there are far richer, far more aristocratic clients than him that would have naturally made a beeline towards the beautiful dentist.
He clucks nonetheless, his tongue grazing against the cold metal. “Can you do it under thirty?”
“Rushing for an appointment?” She gets the syringe from her assistant and taps it on her delicate wrist.
“Vying if I could get ten more minutes for an ice cream.” Her hands are light and quick to inject the anesthesia in the surrounding gums. He hears her soft chuckle against her mask.
“Not the first time that someone did that move.” She hands him his cone with one scoop of mint chocolate.
“I’m not a fan of sweets if you should know,” he says. “Is strong arm strength needed for a dentist?” Two big bites from the top.
Sakura blushes with an intensity, he notes, and in contrast her actions – she shies away her gaze from his stare with her fingers devoid of any jewelry. “You’re as direct as everyone in your lot goes, huh?”
“Is the topic too morbid for you, Dr. Haruno?”
“I’m keeping tabs with the news but I forego the specifics.” She fiddles with her two scoops of double dutch in a small cup. “But to answer your question, you only need to have the right leverage, an accurate position, and a good angle to ease out the naughtiest of teeth. However, it’s really an advantage to have great arm strength. It can get tiring after the twelve noon patient.”
Sasuke finishes his ice cream in the next three bites, feeling nothing in his mouth, the anesthesia still kicking, but he can taste the blood mingle with the freshness of mint, a tinge of rust in the sweetness on his tongue. “You’re not as bothersome as everyone in your lot.”
She raises both of her eyebrows, not sure if she understands his underlying implications.
“Dr. Tsunade Senju and Dan Haruno, top billing general surgeons of the medical world.”
Her mouth opens to form a small and soundless oh. “Ah I’m sure you already snuffed most information about me – it goes that way, right? Ah? Not at all? – So the thing is….I’m not their legitimate daughter. I’m adopted.”
He didn’t have to snuff, these are all open information in the playground of the rich. “A stroke of luck to land on a high end and well managed orphanage.” Her immense wealth does not translate to jewelry, face jobs, and fancy lash lifts. On her breast pocket are three pilot coletos, an apple watch on her wrist, mid-budget choice of clothes, and comfortable white Nike sneakers to be later replaced with a good fit of block heels. When summed up, they barely make a dent out of her daily worth. The rest of the money must have been channeled to her clinic’s state of the art facilities.
“You could say that I struck gold with my circumstances since then.” She spoons out a big chunk of her ice cream.
“But not prior.” The sugar brown cone also disappears in his mouth, all the chewing done by only one side.
“Amnesia. I reportedly had a traumatic head injury when they found me.” Her pink locks drift to the side, her head tilted in expectation of his further prodding.
Sasuke twists the line to another direction, and he captures the quick change of her microexpression from subtle guarding to surprise. “Would it be possible to inject one strong dose of anesthesia to the full mouth and extract all teeth?”
“Enough to knock them unconscious,” she confirms.
And kill them without sound, Sasuke surmises. He stands up and taps his wristwatch. “My ten minutes with you is up. I take it my extraction procedure is free?”
“I’m sure you’ll afford the next one.” She continues to fiddle with her cup as she watches him go.
Sasuke halts in his exiting steps and looks back at Sakura like it’s an afterthought. “If you’d like a payment, a dinner wouldn’t be so bad.” He turns on his heels and doesn’t stop, he can hear a faint laughter behind his back.

“Did I keep you waiting?” He slides on the seat across her and takes in her body language as well as their milieu.
They agreed to meet at seven sharp but Kakashi had asked for another briefing from him so he was held back. Her soft expression, in all its exuding naivety, gives nothing away. “This place doesn’t have no reservations, Detective.”
“Just Sasuke,” he remarks. He clucks his tongue in appreciation. “A hole in the wall noodle place. You frequent this area?”
“A reminder that you gave me the green light to choose.” She’s dressed today in an olive sweatshirt tucked into a neat pair of trousers and velvet loafers – a right mix of classy and casual. “It’s my assistant’s go-to. He would always bring me the best-selling set after a grueling work day so I asked for an address.”
“Thanks for the consideration, Dr. Haruno,” he says. Their order arrives minutes after, and she flashes an apologetic smile. For ordering beforehand Frankly speaking, he expected her to bring him into a Michelin restaurant – one to boost her reputation and second to blanket her in safety of familiar breeds. Or maybe safety is much better in company of anonymity.
“Just Sakura.”
They finish two plates of dimsum and almost empty out the small bottle of chili oil, garlic, sesame, and soy sauce concoction. Sipping a glass of soy milk after a bounty feast, Sasuke reviews the facts again in his mind.
“A penny for your thoughts?” Sakura asks, finished with her drink.
“Give me a hundred bucks then.”
“How many coffee orders would those be worth?”
Sasuke smirks in spite of himself. He changes topics again, on to the mundane life of a Senju-Haruno heir.
“How is the case progressing by the way?”
He glances up and notes the curiosity and fear in her eyes. “Classified information.”
She leans, plates with crumbles and half-empty glasses in between, and tilts her head, her rose locks spilling from her back. “Will they come for me?”
An alarm ticks off somewhere in his mind. “What makes you think so?” They’ve only had one body so far with no other indication of a succeeding death.
He sees that she bites the inside of her mouth, and she fiddles again with the cutlery in front of her. “Maybe I’m just overthinking.”
About ten minutes later, he ushers her outside the rather dingy restaurant but when no car arrives to escort her back to her place, he encourages her to place an uber. He could ask her to ride with him but the mere implications are layered, and he’s not ready for that quite yet. She gives him a look when he opens the door to her uber, an unspoken question she is yet to articulate. When he gets nothing within seconds, he waves goodbye.
“Give me a text when you’re home,” he says although he shouldn’t have.
“It has been an interesting night,” she replies. “Detective.”
The car finally drives away, and he remains with the remnants of her jasmine scent.

“You are not going to release that profile,” the wife of Haru Kagoshi says. She also stands as the chief overseas director of Haru Light, Inc. “Are you insinuating that my husband fucked a gay man?”
“Fuck is a callous word. Watch your tone,” the CEO of Mingwa Industries warn. “Are you sure you’re on the right track?”
“With all due respect, Captain Yamato is the best we have in the country in the field of criminal profiling. He knows what he’s doing,” Asuma assures everyone.
“And are your detectives doing the proper work? Are you covering all fields?” the Mingwa COO pointedly looks at Sasuke. “Because as far as performance goes, you’re allowing that killer to cripple our economy by snuffing out the next best minds.”
Kakashi’s eyes roll in sync with Sasuke’s at the cripple our economy.
Yamato stands up and offers a cup of coffee at the recently widowed which she explicitly ignores. “We will not be identifying the gender of the killer, but we need to narrow it down to males. Of course, it’s up to the public how they will presume it is connected to the genital mutilation.”
“Fuck you,” the widow says. “You know we can cut off your institutional funding, right?”
Kakashi has started massaging his forehead, a sign that he is nearing his bullshit tolerance level. “Yes you can, but we have an annual appropriation from the government. And cutting off our resources won’t solve this case any faster.”
“-with your due respect,” Asuma adds, hoping to de-escalate the situation.
The grandfather CEO of Mingwa Industries scoffs. “We’ll just have to launch our individual investigation then. In case you might be intentionally sabotaging the progress of this case, isn’t that right, Uchiha Sasuke?”
The disdain in his voice when Uchiha rolls off his tongue is jarring and pointed. Sasuke smirks in defiance, willing to push these elites further to the edge of self-destruction. Years in a gray cubicle and thousands of meters walked in company to a reviewing mind, he found that money could get you somewhere – just not the finish line. “You’d better keep an eye out on me then.”
“What the fuck was that about?” Asuma sneers at the detective department after the white collars scampered off. “They are strong lobbyists backing powerful politicians. We shouldn’t be picking a fight with them.”
“He started it,” Sasuke points to Kakashi who shrugs.
“Anyway, Yamato and I will prepare to announce the profile to the media, just a vague description, and then we’ll work on a composite sketch based on these assumptions,” Kakashi pats Asuma’s shoulders. “Ease up. I’m sure Sasuke and his team are doing their best.”
“I’m not doubting an Uchiha, but I’m doubting the way your petty behaviors get in the process of investigation. Now get out and do your jobs.” The Chief Police retrieves a half-emptied pack of cigarettes and lights up a stick. “This job is giving me cancer.”
11:13 PM
She sips her third glass of mimosa as her eyes drift to the sound of her television. A big banner of breaking news is placed below with the caption authorities release a profile: a serial killer at hand?
She chuckles, almost spilling the cocktail on her fingers. She drifts closer to the screen and her nails stick on the necks of the silver-haired man and the man who she assumes is the criminal profiler.
“Authorities confirm that Armando Mingwa and Haru Kagoshi have been killed by the same person. Renowned profiler Captain Yamato reveals the breakdown of the suspect – male with a minimum height of 5’7, age from late 20s to early 30s, and frequents the high-end districts. When asked if we have a serial killer at large, the chief detective and the profiler neither confirmed nor deny.”
She downs her mimosa in one long drink and snaps her fingers. In the middle, sandwiched by volumes of Crime and Punsihment and Les Miserables are jars of teeth submerged in liquid, white, sparkly, well-maintained.
On the other end of the wall is a chest box which also functions like a wide ottoman. Except that it isn’t. It’s a freezer for the meat she has yet to eat.
March 24, 2021, 1:10 PM
“So what was the dentist’s alibi?” Neji asks the sullen detective.
“He had a meditation class for each date – January 29 and February 27 – which runs for five hours. They time it with the moon cycles. I also called his teacher – she prefers to be called witch – and confirmed his attendance.” Sasuke clucks his tongue. “However, they are a class of 100. He can easily slip out when everyone else is closing their eyes and saying humbda dumda.”
He glances at the map on the wall, pins already on the dumpsites, and he zeroes in on the address smack in the middle. “And he can dump the body with his nondescript car and go back in again. Did you know he has three cars – a Tesla, Mercedes, and a black pick-up?”
Tenten carries a fresh pot of coffee to the table and stares at their evidence board. “I’m guessing it’s the same truck with the garbage ones – those going through the suburbs?”
Sasuke nods. “He says it’s for farming. He has a land on the rural side of the district.”
Jugo raises a brow. “That ends my snooping in with the golden spoons.”
“Not quite Jugo.” Neji fills himself a cup. “These people socialize in the same circles you know.”
Someone knocks on the open door of the room and raises a box of cake. “Delivery for you, Detective Uchiha.” The staff attempts to enter but Jugo raises a finger to stop her.
“Who’s it from?” Jugo asks. “It might be the killer.”
The staff scratches the back of her head. “I don’t think the killer is a beautiful pink-haired lady with green eyes.”
All heads turn curiously to Sasuke who gets the cake from the staff. “It’s my punishment.”
Tenten’s eyes narrow at the name on the card. Haruno Sakura. “How is it a punishment? She brought you – us – sweets.”
“She knows I hate sweets. Help yourself though.”
“So you’re dating?” Neji says it with disbelief. “How? You’re barely in the office and – oh my god, you’re skipping hours aren’t you!”
Jugo repeats the name over and over. “Fuck. You’re seeing the Haruno Sakura? She’s as recluse as the oddball heirs go, but I’ve only heard good things from her. I heard she’s very skilled with her hands. Experienced it yet, Uchiha?”
Sasuke kicks him in the shin as soon as he’s done talking. “Firsthand. A tooth on the lower left. Now shut up and get back to work.”

April 12, 2021, 6:17 AM, The third body
The team congregates in the morgue. Another body. Only this time, it was found on a ravine, some parts already devoured by wild animals.
“It’s Fugashi Imamu, current overseas director of Imamu Holdings,” the medical examiner tells them. “Same methods done but there’s more clotting on the crotch area, indicating his genital was mutilated while he was still alive.”
Jugo and Neji both groan inwardly.
“He has an eight-year old.” Tenten crosses her arms in front of her. “A math wizard.”
Sasuke closes his eyes, fending off the initial signs of a migraine. The cases kept piling, and they were nowhere close to a lead. “Can you estimate the date of death?”
“I wouldn’t know just yet with all the rigor mortis and animal attacks. But if we pattern this with the recent killings, and the body was dumped within the last two weeks, the killing must have taken place on the last week of March.”
11:13 AM
March 29, Sasuke thinks about the ME’s latest message. There must be a pattern for the dates of killings. And if there was, they are up against an intelligent killer, a methodical one. He must have a list of targets with a step by step process on how to approach and kill each one. He plans weeks ahead with several contingencies.
“Captain Yamato confirms the ME’s assumption. There really is a pattern,” Tenten tells the team. “Unfortunately, the information already reached the golden spoon team.”
Neji comes in with stacks of folders and notebooks. “Got all his stuff from his secretary. Seems like the bastard slept around or may have been just a bad boss, said she couldn’t be more than happy to live in a world rid of such filthy lolita creep – her words, not mine.”
They go through each page, jotting down relevant information. Sasuke, on the other hand, flips through a small wallet-sized planner. Jotted down on March 26 is veneers with Dr. Akugawa. He seems like the go-to dentist of the big shots. He goes further up the dates and there on March 6 is a name he doesn’t expect. Haruno Sakura.
“It’s true. His daughter had an appointment with me,” Sakura confirms over the phone. “But he also dropped by last year for a tooth extraction dislodged by a punch from his grandfather. Old money can be quite controlling.”
“Ah. Doesn’t he have a family dentist?” He taps his pen on his desk, tens of gears running through his mind.
“Told me his dentist was unavailable for an emergency procedure so he dropped by the one nearest his office.”
Sasuke looks at the time on his watch. “Did you have lunch yet?”
“I have an 11:30. But I can see you in 12.”
He gets there fifteen minutes before, and he flashes his badge to Laura who has grown accustomed to his lunch break visits. Nonetheless, her countenance makes apparent her dislike.
“Your cctv records please,” Sasuke tells her. It isn’t a request, Laura knows, so she leads him to the administrative room on the floor and instructs the staff to show the dates he mentions.
Kiyoko Imamu went there on March 6 with her mother and a helper. They backtrack until they find the date when Fugashi had an appointment. A 30-minute visit and he was quickly out.
“Does Dr. Haruno have other clinics? A private location for a niche clientele?” Sasuke asks.
Laura shakes her head. “Only this one, and she doesn’t accept house calls. She likes to concentrate her work in one place.”
He tells the staff to rewind the records on January 29, February 27, and March 29. Nothing was peculiar about Sakura’s body language, Sasuke notes. He commits all records in his memory and allows himself to be ushered out by Laura. They arrive to Sakura waiting at the receptionist’s desk.
“Did you find what you were looking for?” She asks him with a tilt in her head.
“Just right about now.” He offers an open arm to her which she links with hers. Her face immediately blooms in shades of red.
“We have mussel soup today and grilled mackerel. On the other hand, we also serve bolognese. Or do you have any other location in mind?”
“Your cafeteria’s menu sounds nice.”
They’re interrupted by Sasuke’s phone.
“Where are you?” Kakashi’s voice borders on the edge of frustration.
“Lunch,” Sasuke replies.
“Come back asap. The families had Jugo come in and take Akugawa for questioning.”

ateez ancient china!au - part 1
yesterday in bed i had a sudden thought of what if ateez was in an ancient china! au, so here we go hahaha. i hope you enjoy!
part 2: coming soon!
(c) strawberryhwa-writes : not repost or translate my work on any platform
hongjoong:
the head tailor of the palace, makes clothes specifically for the royal family
was born in a middle class family as an only child, which was rare in ancient china
so there was a lot of pressure on him to do well
he was interested in clothing despite his father claiming it’s “only a woman’s job”
frustrated and ambitious — he wanted to prove his father wrong
so he made a name for himself at a very young age
that day, he spotted yeosang (who was disguised as a middle class man) shopping with his tailor
the salesman and his tailor seemed to know each other very well, referring to each other as xiongdi (brothers)
they were pushy, trying to convince yeosang to buy a yard of a golden silky fabric
curious about the commotion, hongjoong walked next to yeosang and touched it, only to realise it wasn’t real silk! (dun dun dunnn)
obviously the tailor and the salesman were trying to scam yeosang
joong was livid and exposed the both of them in the middle of the bustling market
yeosang was beyond impressed and asked for his name, and so that was how he was hired
ever since entering the palace, he’s low-key judgemental of everyone’s clothes
(especially the two faced scholars and eunuchs who try to harm the princes)
eventually he cut ties with his father but still sends money and hand sewn clothing for special events to his mother
closest with seonghwa in the palace because they’re the same age
secretly makes the best hanfu (clothing) for seonghwa
“because his proportions are immaculate” excuses
seonghwa
the first prince in line
was named by a prophet who said seonghwa had stars in his eyes
“the moment he opened his eyes”
have you seen him?
everyone feels like their heart is going to burst when they see him on a chariot
his gaze is hypnotising
but that’s actually him trying to look stern
because he’s so nervous in front of the crowd
behind the doors, without any eyes on him
he’s a soft baby that all the servants openly adore
everyone secretly wants to hit on him
but is too afraid too because of his younger brothers even though he’s b a b y
(seonghwa is godsend compared to the other princes)
knows how to play guiqin (a traditional chinese string instrument)
usually plays it at night alone near water with lily pads
loves hongjoong with all his heart
(probably had a tiny crush on him the first day he met him)
loves strawberries
and anything strawberry flavoured
when the strawberry season arrives the palace kitchen is filled with:
boxes and boxes of fresh strawberries
he manages to finish them in a few days!
he definitely seems to me another fellow mantou lover and basically all types of bread from dimsum
mantou is a type of chinese white bread with no filling in a shape of a round shape and it’s super fluffy, usually dipped in condensed milk
needs to eat a mantou every morning to get his day started
(he gets bribed every other day by yunho because he can’t resist mantou that has just been out of the oven...!)
yunho
a mischevious son from a wealthy merchant’s family
despite being born with a silver spoon in his mouth, he has a big heart
loves watching performances of every kind! he watched a dragon dance performance and begged his father to find an instructor
his father was reluctant as performers were looked down upon in the ancient times
however, the teacher who took him in said yunho had a natural talent in performing
that’s how he became one of the palace’s performers
despite his living quarters in the palace being less lavish than the two roomed bedroom back at home with his parents
he’s truly chasing his dreams
and it’s completely safe to say he’s content
one night he overheard seonghwa playing the guiqin and he danced gracefully along it
only for seonghwa to find out
and that’s how they got to know each other
and how yunho found out seonghwa’s weakness is mantou
deep inside, seonghwa’s willing to help yunho because he trusts him
the prince covers for him when he wants to slip out into the capital for a breath of air
every once in a while he peaks at his old home to check on his parents
because he knows secretly they’re worried for him, afraid he’ll get hurt because they’ve heard stories of people fracturing their bones in the middle of practice
but at the same time they know his son has grown up and they have to trust him
so he keeps his distance in fear he will drop everything and run back home because chasing his dreams get tiring too
yeosang
the second prince in line
always ties his hair up into a ponytail with strands of hair left untied to frame his face
he wears soft pastel coloured hanfu most of the time with patterns of lotus flowers
(“a symbol of innocence!” hongjoong exclaims from his room)
and somehow he never gets his sleeves stained while eating
(prince yeosang please drop your life hacks now)
he’s very smart, definitely the model student
has really neat and nice handwriting, all the eunuchs are enthralled because seonghwa’s handwriting low-key traumatised them
had a lot of pressure on him to do well academically to “support his brother when he becomes the king”
there were rumours going around about how yeosang secretly wants to overthrow seonghwa when he gets crowned as the king
luckily, he never wanted to be king anyway
he’s a man with little words, but every so often you’ll see his composure crack when an official embarrassed themselves
a tiny smile will be on his lips but it’ll disappear as quickly as it came
when someone oversteps the line in meetings, he won’t hesitate to expose all their dirty secrets
he’ll embarrass them so bad they’ll kneel and swear they’ll never offend him again
so people avoid offending seonghwa too because yeosang is hella scary when he’s mad
but behind close doors though, he’s a completely different person
with close friends like wooyoung and hongjoong though, he’s humorous and likes to share weird facts he found out recently
“did you know that beluga whales have flexible necks, like this?” he demonstrates, making a weird face
no one believes wooyoung’s words when he says yeosang is funny though
brutally honest to protect the ones he love
but when he doesn’t open his mouth everyone assumes he’s the nicer prince
oh, they are so wrong
every time a princess from another region confesses her love to yeosang, she leaves crying because of how bluntly he rejected her

So..., Pizza Hut Indonesia just launched this..., Dimsum Pizza
yep you read it right
Tumblr media
The dim sum will be filled by fish-shrimp mix and the pizza will be topped with mushroom, chicken, onion, mozzarella and tar-tar sauce.
I don't know what to feel about this, this is so absurd but I'm curious to hear what my non-Indonesian folks think about this.
Especially if you're Italian or a fellow Asian who is really into dim sum. please give me your input about this and maybe, cry with me?
[P.S : the words in the picture literally translated as : " Dimsum or Pizza? Check out for yourselves!" also "Baru" just means "New"]

[TRANS] WayV’s interview with Mens Uno June 2019 issue!
Tumblr media
Kun
Which three phrases would you use to describe yourself? Soft on the outside but tough on the inside, tenacious, understanding
What’s the most memorable moment since your official debut? When I’m waiting for the doors to our first stage to open, in my heart, I was like: “I’ve waited for this day for a long time.” When I was onstage, and I saw the fans off-stage, it was very memorable.
Please say something to yourself in three years’ time. Please do not forget your dream, do it well, do it happily, and do what you like.
Which aspect would you be the most happy to be complimented for? It should be the piano, I didn’t learn it formally and I relied on myself to find my way around. Now, I can even help the members to compose a song, and I can play simple piano pieces, so when the fans compliment it for me, I feel quite a sense of achievement.
What’s your greatest hobby in life? When I was young my aspiration was to be a pilot, so I downloaded a pilot simulator on my computer, and I love to play it when I’m bored in the dorm.
Which dish from your hometown do you miss the most? My mom’s Szechuan boiled fish, and my grandmother’s sweet and sour fish, it’s all fish related dishes, haha!
If you could exchange bodies with another member, who would you choose? Yangyang, our youngest, he’s especially naive, and really gets doted on by us geges, the feeling of being doted on is actually quite good.
Ten
What do you think is the most appealing thing about yourself? My performance skills onstage, my dancing, my singing, and what I look like when I’m happy.
What is the most memorable moment from your official debut till now? When our first teaser was released.
What is the most difficult thing you’ve encountered in learning mandarin? Mandarin has a lot of tones, and the pronunciation is a little difficult, but I think Mandarin is very interesting to learn, and I really wanted to learn it all along, so being a part of WayV is also a very good opportunity for me.
What’s your biggest hobby in life? Singing, dancing, and drawing, I like to use my pen to record what I’m feeling at the time.
If you can only bring three things when leaving home, what would they be? My phone, earphones and cologne. I like cologne very much, so I spray it every day, I like a neutral scent with a slight sweetness.
Which dish from your hometown do you miss the most? The food my mother makes, like Pad Thai (Thai stir fried noodles), Som Tam (Thai salad).
If you can switch bodies with one member, who would you choose? Yangyang, I want to experience what it is like to be the youngest brother in the team too.
Winwin
Which three phrases would you use to describe yourself? Going with the flow, the sun, and the spring breeze.
What is the most memorable moment from your official debut till now? Our first showcase, when the enthusiastic fans beneath the stage were cheering for and encouraging us.
Please say something to yourself in three years’ time. Bravely march forth, many people are supporting you from behind, don’t be afraid, fighting!
What’s the biggest reward of attending “My Brilliant Master”? Us four “apprentices” all have different personalities, but after attending the show and getting familiar with everyone, we all got along and chatted together smoothly, and the three older brothers were also very considerate towards me. All the “masters” are also senior experts in each of their professions and special fields, so there can be a lot to learn from them about professional attitudes, which to me is something beneficial for life.
What’s your greatest hobby in life? Watching movies, listening to music, and recently I’ve been frequently sitting in the living room with my members watching TV.
Which dish from your hometown do you miss the most? I haven’t eaten home-cooked food made by my parents in a long time, so I miss even their simple stir-fried greens a lot.
If you could exchange bodies with another member, who would you choose? Yangyang, because he’s not afraid to watch horror movies. Even though he’s the maknae of the team, he dares to try anything and has a lot of guts.
Lucas
Which three phrases would you use to describe yourself? Flame, ocean, limitless.
Please say something to yourself in three years’ time. Wong Yukhei, are you healthy? Are you happy? Did you buy your parents a house yet?
From your first time attending “Running Man,” were there any interesting or unforgettable moments? The other hosts took very good care of me, so it was really fun during the shoots. My Mandarin is not every good, so I sometimes can’t Get their jokes, thus a lot of funny situations will occur.
What’s your greatest hobby in life? Exercising, listening to music. I get excited as soon as I hear music, and my youthful passion will jump out, totally immersing myself to enjoy the moment.
Who is the role model in your heart? Choi Yun-fat, because to me he is a good senior to learn from. (T/N: Choi Yun-fat is an iconic Hong Kong actor known for his tough and cool roles.)

Xiaojun
Which three phrases would you use to describe yourself? Passion, sunshine, gentle.
What is the most memorable moment from your official debut till now? Before the curtains open on our debut stage, there is enough time for you to feel the atmosphere present, the waiting time backstage is very memorable.
Please say something to yourself in three years’ time. Remember all that you did in these three years, always let yourself reflect.
If you were praised for one of your skills, which skill being praised would make you the happiest? Probably singing, I spend 50% of my energy on singing.
Who is the role model in your heart? My older brother and my father.
Disregarding time and space, what would like to do, and with who? Do the most ordinary things with my family.
Which dish from your hometown do you miss the most? Dried beancurd rolls, it’s a Hakka dish, it uses dried beancurds, which are wrapped around shrimp and vegetables.

Who is the role model in your heart? He’s right beside me, it’s Li Yongqin gege, he’s one of my role models, his persistence, his readiness to face problems, and also his capabilities make him really great.
If you can only bring three things when leaving home, what would they be? The first one is a definite necessity, my phone, the second is prepared for my phone, a solar-powered power bank, the third is a hat.
Which dish from your hometown do you miss the most? I really like dimsum, but I miss steamed chicken feet with black bean sauce the most, I still drool when I think of it now.
If you could exchange bodies with another member, who would you choose? No need to think, it’s Lucas, because I have a smaller build, and I often only have to eat a little bit of food before I’m full, and was unable to try lots of food. Lucas likes food a lot too, and if I could become him, I’ll be able to try every dish on the table.
Yangyang
Which three phrases would you use to describe yourself? Cool and handsome at the same time, approachable, humorous.

Tong Sui... my definition
No, “Tong Sui” is not the name of a dynasty in Chinese history.
But you’re close. There’s Tang dynasty, as well as Sui dynasty :P
Okay, so.. . I’ll be sharing my explanation of what “tong sui” is.
Below is an example of one:
[Doesn’t look very appealing... there’s like flat pieces of dark green things sort of floating, mung beans.. . & the liquid portion is dark olive green/brown. Like dirt water.]
Tumblr media
However, it is cold, refreshing, & sweet!
Growing in a traditional Chinese family, “tong sui” is not a foreign concept to me. It is a “food group” that my parents make throughout the yr, although the varieties are a little “seasonal" (as well as the temperature of it when it is served). Ie: in winter, we tend to eat hot versions; in summer, room temperature or chilled.
“Tong sui” literally translates to “sugar water” in English. Most sources describe it as an umbrella term for sweet soups that are enjoyed as a dessert in Chinese eating culture. It is a pretty good simplified definition, me thinks.
First off, not all “tong sui” (TS) are sweet; I’d say 90%+ are sweet, others are savoury. Personally, I prefer sweet. To say it is a “dessert” after a meal... not wrong, but it can eaten anytime of the day; as afternoon snack, with dimsum, brunch even.. . I personally like it as an afternoon tea time snack bcos it’s too filling to be eaten after a dinner, which is what typically happens at banquets (it’s always served last after the 10 course meal, & by then I’m stuffed!). Same thing at home; I just don’t particularly eat this kind of stuff in the evening.
Is it a soup?
I guess =/ A soup to me is something savoury, & with majority of TS being sweet, I have a hard time relating it to soup. But loosely-speaking, I’d say soup is not wrong; there just isn’t a better term for it in the English language.
Varieties!!?? Traditionally, TS takes a long time to make - at least a few hrs depending on the type you’re making. There are kinds (think flavours) that are more common than others, & depending on where you are in China(/Asia, bcos other East Asian countries have TS equivalents), the varieties also differ. Classically, I’d say there are 6 main TS’s in Cantonese Chinese culture.
1. Mung bean & 2. Red bean.
The preparation + cooking method are similar for both, & the product is a sweet sandy soup (from rupture of the beans after prolonged cooking). Both use rock sugar or cane/brown sugar (the brick ones) as a sweetener. The mung bean one often includes kelp, while the red bean one commonly uses dried mandarin peel as a taste enhancer. (my dessert photo is #1. Mung bean + kelp)
Seed/nut-based TS: 3. Black sesame & 4. Peanut.
Involves fine-grinding (powder-like) of the main ingredient, & cooking it in sweetened water till it literally becomes a thick-ish paste. Tbh, the texture will get to ppl if you’re picky with your textures. Hopefully the aromatics of it will help a little... Compared to 1 & 2, these are more fragrant, & are so smooth that chewing is not required. Think smoothie... but with a hint of graininess + nuttiness.
5. Tapioca
Coconut & taro are the common flavours but these days.. . even fusion flavours are available at some fancy places. Nonetheless, they contain small white tapioca balls that are naturally flavourless but has a soft texture. It’s not like the pearls in bubbletea. I’m ok with this kind of TS as long as it doesn’t contain actual taro pieces in it... (oftentimes it does)
Lastly.. . I have a difficult time considering this a TS but I KNOW IT IS ONE! It’s just that in North American, I don’t think it’s that common, & it’s usually presented in a sealed plastic container, rather than a sit-down & eat item that you consume out of a bowl. 6. Tofu dessert.
Right?! The other items 1-5, you can’t get them from a grocery store, & eat it as is, but #6., they are usually placed next to regular tofu. & you can even ask for spoons at the cashier counter so you can eat it at the food court! So.. . it’s kinda weird. But traditionally as a TS, the tofu base is the same & it’s not “flavoured” (none of that modern mango-flavoured, lychee-flavoured stuff); what DOES contain flavour (/variety) is the syrup that’s drizzled on top. Honey, ginger-infused syrup, cane sugar syrup, rock sugar syrup, brown sugar syrup.. .
Hope you enjoyed the back-to-back Chinese food posts haha now back to the scheduled program. Just kidds!
* * * * * * aside: In my household, #1 - 3 are the most common ones. But they are ‘upgraded’ most of the time, like for #1, #2, sometimes tapioca is added OR we mix mung bean with red bean. For the black sesame one, we add glutinous rice balls bcos with it being a paste, it’s kinda flat & unexciting haha Another TS we make is the papaya + snow fungus one (where I will only drink the liquid portion of bcos I can’t do the snow fungus texture & I think papaya shouldn’t be cooked...).

Artist: Choi Sangchul
This past Art Basel Hong Kong, while having dimsum with friends, Joanne Lim, Founder and Director of J&S International Art Project, shows me this youtube video clip of a guy making art by rolling around a stone.  This immediately caught my attention, and lucky me! I happen to be flying to Seoul the following week.
So Joanne picked me up at the hotel and we drove about an hour outside of the city to the Korean countryside where we pulled off onto a gravel road and up to this brown nondescript building.  Here, we were greeted by a 5ft tall, older Korean gentleman with wispy white hair and speaks at just slightly above a whisper.
Choi Sangchul was a professor to university students of western oil paintings for many years.  Even while he taught full time, he was very studious about creating art and through regimented practice, developed his own artist voice.  And since retirement from teaching, he is now dedicated to his paintings.  He has set hours where he works and keeps tedious records of his progress.
We enter into his spotless studio where there were several stacks of paintings.  Mr Choi with the help of Joanne’s translations starts telling me about his practice.  I think we started with his more traditional Korean abstract paintings from the 80′s.  At a mighty 5 ft, this man lifts paintings two times his size as if they were paper...actually, i thought it was paper.  Boy was I wrong!  It’s acrylic ink on linen!!  He stretches the canvases himself AND he doesn’t use a paint brush!! 🤔

In Choi’s older works, he uses deliberately planned strokes and more colors.
As Mr. Choi pulls away layers, the paintings become more contemporary and it’s clear that he has become very established in his style.  Mr. Choi has created for himself a very disciplined process to create art in order to eliminate the human ego from the paining process as much as possible.  He creates a type of stroke with an object (stone, stick, wire) in sketch form on paper, and then executes them on canvas.  Creating the marks, he leaves somewhat up to chance, sometimes as simply as flipping a coin, but always in repetitions of 1000.

It was an honor to meet Mr. Choi and visit his studio.  What’s next?  We hope to bring Mr. Choi’s work to the United States and work with US based galleries and insitutions, so more people can see more of his works.  :)  Want to know more? Please contact us for more information!

"Chinatown Abecedario: A Folk Taxonomy of L.A.'s Chinatown," Audrey Chan.
via KCET
Artist Audrey Chan created "Chinatown Abecedario," for the recent (de)Constructing Chinatown exhibition at the Chinese American Museum. In the video, Chan turned wordsmith and used alliteration to great effect, teaching her audience the ABCs of multicultural Los Angeles's Chinatown.
After cycling through all 26 letters of the alphabet, the video goes on to translate the vignettes in Cantonese, Spanish, and Mandarin, touching on neighborhood issues and day-to-day realities along the way.
"I love learning languages and I've used programs like Rosetta Stone," says Chan, who drew each frame thrice and animated it, "I was fascinated by the sentences they use in language tapes. They are always so neutral. It's almost like they try to use the most innocuous sample sentences. My goal in this project was to make each sentence as culturally loaded as possible."
In that, she succeeds. By using a familiar rubric, Chan midwifes her audience into the world where Chinatown isn't just full of dimsum restos and Oriental tchotchkes. It is a neighborhood where disparate swaths of cultural fabric meet, then get stitched together at the seams to form a strange, but cohesive whole.
