A snapshot of one morning, on a relaxed day with mild weather. Now imagine this when it's crowded or when it's raining or snowing.
Video description: POV from the lap of a wheelchair user. Very shaky. OP is going downhill on a fall day. Lots of trees and fallen leaves around. There are construction trucks to the left in the very beginning. Every now and then, you can see a German Shepherd on the left. Second obstacle shows a food robot crossing the sidewalk to drive in front of OP, but it stops suddenly and OP crashes into it. OP continues down the hill until she reaches another food robot, which is obstacle 3. This robot sits in the middle of the sidewalk while OP navigates around it. Then OP comes to a concrete ramp with iron railings, which is obstacle 3.5. It is very steep. After the ramp, OP goes to cross the street, where a black SUV blows through the crosswalk. Obstacle 4 is a ramp with red brick. OP struggles to move up and pauses at one point before continuing again to obstacle 5, where there is a big concrete building and manual doors. The German Shepherd service dog goes up to push the accessibility button multiple times to no avail. A student comes and opens the door, OP enters through two sets of doors into a hallway. Clip change to obstacle 6, OP is wheeling down a hallway and approaches a white elevator with out of order signs.
End of description.

Yesterday I successfully defended my #dissertation examining the “social facts” of COVID-19. Here’s me headed to the defense rocking my CAN99 and walker 😷🚶🏼‍♀️ #IMaskBecause as a scientist who studies #Covid, I signed up to defend my diss, but I didn’t agree to die for it. #PhDone pic.twitter.com/OZGL469jnG

The leftism/anticapitalism leaving people's bodies the zeptosecond you imply that disabled people who aren't "productive" still matter in society and need to be treated like intrinsic equals who have a place in this world:

people on tumblr will literally post things like “you have to eat vegetables and expand your palate i dont care if you are a picky eater because of autism (if i can overcome it you can too)” and everybody will reblog it being like “yes this is true for everybody no matter what” and think its okay. like sorry but that wont work for everyone and there is no one size fits all and some people will never be able to eat these things no matter how hard they try. im only allowed by my doctors to eat recreationally and not for nutrition, because my ARFID is so severe that i get my nutrition solely from a specially made formula drink. your suggestions of “try vegetables roasted!” or “try them in soup!” and assurances of “i did it, you can too!” don’t work for those of us with more severe mental illnesses and disabilities. stop tying a person’s worth to their diet and stop assuming everybody has the ability to do what you can.

[Image description] Image 1: A digital illustration of Dr Loboto from the Psychonauts series. He's drawn from the waist up at a 3/4 angle, with his gloved hand holding a golden dental tool. His other prosthetic arm is held slightly up as if in thought. He's grinning wildly, revealing a set of sharp teeth. The background is a warm brown and features sketches of various characters from the psyconauts franchise, such as Linda the lungfish, Loboto's family, Shegor and the fish gaurds from Rhombus of ruin. There is a bright magenta blood splatter covering the middle of the background. Image 2: A monochrome comic of Loboto, who has one hand up to his chest and the other gesturing of to the side. He's grinning and saying 'I have no relevant skills. I am unpleasant to work with. I like to cause problems.' Coach Oleander can be seen in the bottom right corner, glaring up at Loboto. Image 3: A continuation of the comic . Oleander stands to the right of the canvas with one hand on his hip and the other pointing up at Loboto who is standing in the foreground on the far left. With a sharp grin and a glare, he ignores Loboto's warnings and says 'Hired.' [End ID]

My theory for why Dr Hemlock’s hand is always hurting is that he’s a beginner crocheter who hasn’t learned how to properly hold his tension yet. The glove is a compression glove

Rewatching the training between Izzy and Stede makes the inner soft scientist come out. Like, just watching Izzy breath is beautiful, showing he's still alive and human despite the torture he's endured. I would kill to watch him move and navigate his new leg just how I had friends watch over me as I started using my cane for my own disabilities. I see myself in Izzy a lot, and call it the God complex, but I adore that as it helps me look at myself and feel more worthy as we have endured similar shit.
I would adore running my fingers through his chest hair, taking in their feeling to ground myself. It is truly beautiful, especially all gray and reflecting so pretty in the sunlight. Con's chest is fuckin gorgeous too.
Izzy is human despite every insecurity and flaw. He is human with every breath and a fighter at that. He is a queer unicorn and a beloved one by his crew despite being upset about his missing leg. He is alive and that is truly beautiful through my scientific eyes. Alive. Life. Just simple things like breathing and moving, even a bit, to keep you alive. Life is beautiful and it should be saved, both when the organism is alive and dead. It is all beautiful and it is being you. You are enough and cherished.

My classmate said that blind people can't be in science because they "can't read graphs." I responded with "disabled people can be scientists, besides that's what alt text is for." She replied with "well, okay, but they can't be in forestry [our field], that would be too hard for a disabled person." I then countered with the fact that I am disabled and am succeeding (and while I didn't point it out, I am receiving higher grades than she is, and I have had to tutor her). She said that it's different for me, and when I asked how so, she didn't reply.
Disabled scientists exist and we are successful!

sometimes i wish you could hire a service where someone reads a study and then will talk about it with you in very simple terms to help you understand said study. or even just any topic but for me, mostly studies. not like a tutor, or tutors i've experienced, that try to 'bring you to that level' or whatever. i mean teach it to me like i'm in middle school. break it into bite sized pieces. talk it out with me!

Every time I try to "tough out" my pain, I always imagine a group of scientists with the saddest expressions on their faces because they invented a way to help my suffering and I refused to use it because I didn't feel "worthy enough" and I always feel so guilty and grateful for their effort and sacrifices
