Expert Tips on Buying the Perfect Hiking Boots in NZ
Tumblr media
Shopping for hiking boots in NZ is quite different from buying regular footwear. In the case of ordinary sandals and trail shoes, we tend to focus on the style and fashion aspects more than anything. However, with hiking shoes, factors like durability, support, and comfort come into the picture.
Since hiking is an outdoor adventure, the terrain conditions may not be very suitable for your feet. As a result, one should wear good-quality hiking shoes that not only protect the feet and ankles but also offer adequate support. However, choosing the perfect hiking shoes is not as easy as it sounds, especially in present times.
The market for camping essentials is flooded with a variety of options in each category. Be it shelter, clothing, footwear, or anything, the choices are endless. Talking about hiking footwear in specific, you’ll be overwhelmed to see the wide range of options available. So, how will you pick the one that actually fits your feet, assures support & comfort, and will last longer?
Relax! We know how confusing it is and that’s why we’ve brought some expert tips on buying the perfect hiking boots in NZ. A perfectly fitted boot can mean the difference between a painful traumatizing experience and a comfortable pleasant one. Instead of getting influenced by reviews and promotion gimmicks, it’s important that you make an informed purchase.
Here are some expert tips that will help you in buying the perfect hiking boots for your next adventure.
Focus on your hiking style The choice of footwear for your hiking trip will largely depend on the type of hiker you are. For instance, if you are a day hiker that travels light and along low elevations, a lightweight hiking boot will be the perfect choice for you. On the contrary, if you are a backpacker who sets out on a multi-day hiking adventure, a heavy-duty hiking boot is what you need.
Measure the feet size accurately Fit and comfort go hand in hand. Hence, you cannot afford to make a mistake while measuring the actual size of your feet. While shopping offline, ask a professional to measure your feet accurately in both standing and seated positions to get the exact size. In the case of online shopping, measure your feet by yourself and make sure to check the size scale on the website before finalizing the purchase.
NOTE: Measurements of both feet should be taken and the length of your feet is considered to be where your longest toe ends.
Always go for one full-size up Mind you, the fit of hiking boots is not the same as other regular shoes. Since hiking is a strenuous physical activity, your feet are most likely to swell and need space for adjusting comfortably. Similarly, most hikers wear extra thick socks while heading out on the trail to keep their feet cushioned. This is another reason why extra space is needed for the feet to fit comfortably in the shoes. Hence, always go for one full-size up boots that assures constant support and comfort.
Break-in slowly Much like any footwear, wearing hiking boots for the first few times can be painful and discomforting as your feet need time to adjust in those pairs. So, instead of wearing them for the first time and going about hiking in the wilderness, start off with shorter walks around and let your feet settle in comfortably.
Waterproofing or not Many have this misconception that hiking boots should be waterproof only. Well, there’s certainly not a compulsion. Waterproof boots are great if one is planning to hike to locations where it rains or you don’t want your feet to get exposed to moisture, dirt, etc. However, non-waterproof boots are also great options for those who don’t mind a little dirt for ventilation. Also, non-waterproof boots are ideal for those who are prone to getting blisters due to hot feet.
There You Go! Besides these, the level of support and comfort you need during your hike should be considered before deciding on a specific type of hiking footwear. Factors like heavy gear, off-trail trekking plans, past ankle injuries, etc. are vital that play a significant role in the quality of purchase you make.
So, if you are planning to buy hiking boots anytime soon, make sure to keep the above-discussed expert tips in mind. You can check out the exclusive collection of hiking boots on Dwights. You can find popular picks like Hi-Tec and Crispi boots in NZ at the best prices.

If you're looking for the best dog harness for medium dog 1000 , you need a product that can withstand its weight. A strap-style harness will give you better control of your dog while walking and will accommodate dogs up to 250 pounds. Here are a few options: Puppia Soft Harness, Active dogs Chest Plate Harness, Ruff wear Hi & Light Lightweight Dog Harness, and the Tru-Fit Smart Dog Walking Harness.
Active dogs Chest Plate Harness
The Active dogs chest plate harness for medium dog is a practical option for a medium-sized dog. This harness has a triangular design that helps distribute pressure and allows easy adjustments. It is recommended for service animals and is made of breathable air-tech Condura fabric to prevent overheating.
This harness can be used for a wide range of activities. It is perfect for tracking scents, biking, agility, fly ball, and other activities. The harness can be put on with very little effort and can be adjusted at the chest and shoulders. The girth strap can be adjusted for a perfect fit and it comes with a bungee-style leash for ease of attachment.
Ruffwear Hi & Light Lightweight Dog Harness
The Ruffwear Hi & Light Lightweight dog harness is designed to provide comfort and freedom of movement. Its low-profile design helps to keep the dog's weight low and breathability high. It also features a durable shell fabric that sheds dirt and debris.
It comes with multiple adjustment points in the front and back to ensure a secure fit. It is easy to put on and take off for your dog. The harness comes with extra thick padding and four adjustment points on the rear to ensure a snug fit. The design is comfortable for your dog to wear, and its EVA hollow mesh provides a cool, dry, breathable fit.
It has a lace trim to look pretty on your dog. Made of lightweight polyester and mesh materials, it features solid plastic buckles. You can also pair the harness with a matching dog collar. While you're shopping, you may want to consider buying a harness with a strong anti-pull feature. This will help prevent your dog from pulling out of the harness when it's excited.

This harness is recommended for medium-sized dogs, but is also available for small dogs.
Another soft harness is the Kurgo dog harness. While it is a lightweight harness, it can feel heavy, especially if you're using it for running. It's best for medium-sized dogs but can be tricky for dogs with deep chests. It's also bigger than the Puppia harness, so it's not ideal for toy breeds.
Ruffwear Tru-Fit Smart Dog Walking Harness
The Ruffwear Tru-Fit Smart Dog Harness for Medium Dogs is a versatile multi-purpose harness that fits most dog breeds. It has padded shoulder straps and belly straps and is made with durable materials and thin foam. It also comes in several different sizes to fit most dog breeds.
The harness is made with eco-friendly materials. Its buckles are quick release. This design provides optimum control while walking the dog. The harness also features reflective trim, but the trim may not reflect light so it may not be visible. It's also possible that the harness' overall durability will suffer.
The light-weight design is also perfect for small dogs who dislike bulky designs. However, the lack of a front clip means that this harness isn't ideal for dogs that pull.
Rabbitgoo Chest Plate Harness
The Rabbitgoo Chest Plate Harness is an excellent harness for a medium-sized dog. It's designed to be easy to use and secure. It features a front and back leash attachment and two reflective straps. It also features a breathable material to help keep your dog cool and comfortable during hot weather.
If your dog needs extra security, you can choose Rabbitgoo's Tactical Dog Harness, which is made of durable nylon and has reinforced metal leash attachment points. This harness is also adjustable and has a back handle to add more control over the dog.
The design is ideal for hiking and outdoor excursions. Its chest plate is padded to keep the dog comfortable and safe. It also has a seatbelt attachment for easy securing.

What are the tips on choosing Camping Swags?
Planning your camping activities is crucial, but it doesn't mean you should ignore finding a lightweight, portable and sturdy shelter to protect you. There are many benefits to using camping swag. Over time, the camping swag with a mattress inside has evolved considerably. Swag can be an excellent option for staying dry and off the ground when camping with friends.
Listed below are the top tips to consider when choosing camping swags
Size of camping swags
Depending on what size your camping swags need to be, you may have three options to choose from - a single, a king size or double size. However, the dimensions of each camping swag will vary slightly, so it is up to you to check the actual dimensions of the camping swags you are considering purchasing. The amount of headroom provided by the camping swags also varies quite a bit. If you're looking forward to sitting up comfortably in your camping swag, keep this in mind if you'd like a little extra space.
Material
It is recommended that camping swags should be made from a heavy-duty canvas to remain protected from the elements. A blend of cotton and polyester fibres is used to make the canvas, ensuring that the swag is breathable, waterproof and rot-proof. You can tell the difference between good quality canvas and cheaper versions by the weight of the canvas or the grade. A ripstop fabric swag is an essential part of buying a swag since it offers a high level of durability. In this way, nylon has also been used to make the canvas more durable and tear-resistant.
Base
The base of the camping swags is equally crucial as the outer layer. Some camping swags also feature a canvas bottom. However, it is generally more appropriate to choose a camping swag that has a PVC bottom instead. No water could get into the swag, and PVC dries much faster than canvas. However, there is a problem with PVC: it does not breathe as well as a canvas during hot and humid weather, which can cause condensation.
Mattress
A very special aspect of camping swags is that they come with a mattress, which means that you do not have to buy one separately. Even so, it is helpful to take this into consideration when selecting a camping swag, especially when it comes to its mattress. A few camping swags mattresses typically consist of high-density open cell foam. These mattresses are typically available in 50mm or 70mm thickness. It would be best if you considered this to determine the size of the camping swags that can be folded up and, more importantly, the quality of your sleep. The foam is manufactured in various shapes, such as eggshells or ripples, and is specific to the manufacturer. Camping swags with a thinner foam at the end of the foot will also be a good choice.
Style
There is a lot of importance to the style of the camping swags. The first thing you must do when looking for swag that will suit your needs will be to find it in the shops or online. You will likely be able to set it up quickly if you choose a compact model, but you will lose out on the space you have for your heads and feet. Many people do not prefer using single poles to support their camping swags, as this can lead to claustrophobia among you.

Hayu~!
I love your writings and your blog, sweatheart!. Can i ask you to do HC about Adultrio and omegaverse? Like how would they react when their omega is in heat, or something like this
Thankss~! ❤
(Ps. Sorry for my bad English)
I’ve been wanting to do something like this for a while!!! <3
Omegaverse Hisoka w/Darling:
Tumblr media
His scent would be something along the lines of rose water and sugary bubble gum. It’s sweet, but not too over bearing, a really weird scent for an alpha. Maybe it is misleading?
Oh god, any of these guys being alphas would be awful, each one for a different reason too. In Hisoka’s case, he becomes more of a hunter than ever before, more of a blood thirsty predator that lusts over tearing omegas and betas to peices. He loves watching them writhe and cry and beg for mercy as he tears off their limbs, and the terrible scent they give off somehow makes him even harder. He especially loves Omegas, even when there are so many laws protecting them.
When he meets you, it is terrifying. At first he was going to simply kill you, omegas are rare and it would be so fun to make you cry. But he changes his mind once your heat accidentally starts early. Your on your way home, he’s watching from afar, and the moment you pass through an alleyway it starts.
That’s the final straw, his bloodlust was already so high, so your heat pushed him into an intense rut. He is shaking when he acts like a gentleman, telling you he’d kindly take you home where you will be safe. Despite his intense bloodlust, he still has some form of self control, but the moment you let your guard down it all melts away.
That’s kind of how he bonded you, and somehow he decided not to kill you. Maybe it was because he couldn’t help but bond you while he was in his rut? Probably. The moment was just too intense.
Surprisingly, he isn’t the worst alpha (after that first incident and the fact you are stuck with him against your will). He scents everything you wear to make sure others know who you belong to, he gets you any nesting materials you want/need, and he makes sure you are comfortable. He doesn’t even force omega stereotypes on you, so you are free to do as you wish.
He lets you out as long as you don’t run away, he makes sure no alpha does any funny business, Hisoka even takes care in making you physically comfortable. Dare I say he is... a good alpha?! I mean he defiantly has growing room but he is far better than many alphas you’ve heard in stories. He is absent often, so that is probably a big reason as to why he is so lenient.
Despite all the ups, Hisoka still has a tendency to mark you way too hard. He is sadistic, blood thirsty, and extremely obsessive. He wants the world to know you are his with scars and smell.
At least you have a comfortable nest, right?
Omegaverse Illumi w/Darling:
Tumblr media
Illini smells like a recent rain, one where you can tell there was a heavy thunderstorm. There’s a hint of juniper in there too. It is fairly pleasant, but there is also an undertone of metallic iron. You can’t tell if it is from the blood on his hands or his natural scent.
He’s probably the worst out of all these alphas. Illumi is possessive, to him you are a precious treasure he doesn’t want to loose. A beautiful doll to dress up and mate with.
There wasn’t a really crazy way you guys met, it was simply a case of ‘that’s the one’. Illumi saw you and knew you were the perfect little omega for him. You didn’t exactly have a choice, running would only make things worse and there was no way you could fight back.
Your first heat wasn’t what you would call romantic. Your nest felt wrong with what was available, he didn’t give you any personal space, and his scent was suffocating. He wouldn’t take no for an answer and he made sure he knotted you and stayed there. He wanted pups so he was going to get pups.
Life after that wasn’t much better. You had the duties of an omega, cooking, cleaning, nesting, welcoming your alpha home, everything typically expected. At least you had help, so most of the chores you did very little of.
Once you started showing (it would happen eventually, he would even force your heat if he didn’t knot you the first time), your duties became simple yet strict. Follow the rules if you care for your life. His family isn’t too different, even the omega mother expected you to follow orders. No sympathy, don’t expect to get any.
Illumi is stoic, not really showing many emotions, but you quickly learn how he operates underneath that indifferent mask. Small smiles, slightly furrowed brows and pursed lips, half lidded eyes, all these small tells told you what he was thinking. His naturally strong scent helps too, it is easy to tell because it reflects his mood so well. Maybe a little bit of ash when he is irritated, or sakura when he is pleased. Either way, make sure you smell the air around him.
After one pup, he expects you to give him another one. You won’t be able to keep them long either. It’s a sad existence, truly, you are only an object of an alpha’s obsession. He makes sure you do your omega duties as well, at least you follow the rules if you don’t want to get hurt.
Don’t try to escape, it’s not worth the trouble when there is no way you could escape. He’s too good at finding and hunting down scents.
Omegaverse Chrollo w/Darling:
Tumblr media
Chrollo smells like men’s cologne mixed with coriander and the pages of a new book. There’s a hint of honeydew too, calming and sweet but not too much to hide his calculating personality.
He is the middle ground, more on the side of Illumi compared to Hisoka. Chrollo is possessive, obsessive, and exteremly protective. Nothing comes in between you and him, not even the Troupe. This is way more apparent when you are his precious omega. His eyes and hands are always on you.
You were probably someone of some importance, the daughter/son of a rich individual, a collector, an antique shop owner, a book nerd, anyone. In the end, a simple interest shared between the two of you is what makes him spend the time to begin to get to know you. He would take it slow, using his charisma to gain your trust and manipulate you. After a while he decided to keep you. So when your next heat came along, he was there for you.
He made sure you had all the nesting material you could ever want. He took you to his floor in heveans arena to give you the privacy and comfort you deserve. He helped get you anything you wanted too. It was perfect, you were falling pretty hard too... so after you let him scent some of your things you invited him into your nest. Chrollo took care of you, helping you through your heat, marking your mating gland, and giving you the knot you begged so much for.
After that, everything went down hill. He still took care of you, but the possesiveness quickly began to show more and more. He wouldn’t let you leave, he wouldn’t let you meet any friends or family, he became the only person you would meet. By the time you’d realize how controlling he has become, it was too late. You had little independence left, and it was all in his hands.
He keeps you really close, scenting all of your things and baring his canines at anyone who looks at you the wrong way. No one messes with you. He loves you too much. Chrollo is a master manipulator as well. Even if you realize he is manipulating and gaslighting you, he will still find a way to make sure you do as he says.
Traveling around the world is normal. It’s annoying, but he makes sure you have everything you need in the end. A warm bed, a hot meal, and the best nesting materials. Chrollo doesn’t exactly want pups, maybe one to keep you with him, but that’s the only reason why. If he ends up with a pup it will be the Troupe that will take care of them most of the time, though they don’t mind. They love your little pup.
Chrollo never lets you leave his sight, your always in his lap while he reads and pets your thigh. Escape isn’t a realistic option.

GRACE: Chapter I
Kim Namjoon lost himself when he lost his hand.  Things have not been the same for him since.  When Taehyung tells him it’s time for him to marry - he isn’t exactly thrilled at the prospect of someone else having a front row seat to his struggle with himself.
That’s where you come in.  You’re a nurse, as well as a member of Bangtan, and Taehyung is never more sure about a match than he is with you and Namjoon.  Feeling like you’ve been chosen to help Namjoon on his journey back to finding who he is, you feel completely out of depth.
It’s only when you start to see the man underneath that you start to fall in love with Kim Namjoon.  And maybe after all, you might be his saving grace.
Tumblr media
WARNINGS: Language, eventual sex and some violence
A/N:Namjoonie’s story! ENJOOOOY :D
“Kim Taehyung wants to see you, Y/N.”
Your mother’s words dropped between the two of you, like lead.  Her eyes avoided your own - and you knew exactly what she actually meant.
Kim Taehyung has found you a husband.
Your chest tightened and you gripped the handle of your coffee mug for dear life.
Your eyes traveled over to your father, his face kind but stern.  This wasn’t up for debate.
“Okay.”  The word was quiet, “Do I - do you…”
You took a deep breath and collected yourself.
“Who is he?”
The question hung in the air uncomfortably.
Your parents exchanged a look - the same look they’d exchanged your entire life when decisions were made for you and they were afraid you wouldn’t like it.
“I think we should let Taehyung tell you that.”  Your father’s voice was steady, “As Capo, it is his right.”
As capo.
You didn’t know Kim Taehyung very well at all.  Though the two of you were of a similar age - had grown up together in Bangtan - he had always been groomed for Capo.  You on the other hand, had been groomed like most other women in the mob: to believe that your most important duty in life was to carry on your family line.
You knew it was outdated.  And you hated it, though you’d never complain.
Life had taught you that complaints got you nowhere - and so you’d learnt to keep your head down and get on with it.
But that didn’t mean you’d never wanted more.  That you’d craved freedom and independence like no other.
And when your parents had allowed you to study nursing at university you really had thought maybe things were changing.  Until you’d realised that it had been a direct order from Taehyung’s father himself - the Capo at the time.
Bangtan needed their own nurse.  Someone who could take care of things quietly and efficiently.
Someone who could help those who were badly injured find some degree of normality.
And that’s what you did.
Still.  You loved your job - mob mandated or not.
“Okay.”  You whispered, feeling something like dread wash over you.
“His wife has invited you to dinner at theirs,” Your mother finally moved her gaze to connect with your own, “This evening.  Eight pm.”
You nodded, on autopilot.
This was what you’d done all your life, wasn’t it?
You listened to orders.  You never asked questions.  You never challenged Bangtan.
And if the Capo himself wanted to see you, then you knew it could only mean one thing.
He’d found you a husband.  And tonight, you would meet him too.
//
You stood outside Kim Taehyung’s mansion -- because that’s what it was, a mansion -- nervously fingering the hem of your blouse.
This was it.
You’d waited twenty-five years for this moment - the moment someone else decided who you would marry.
You’d always known it would be like this.  Your father was too powerful - he held too many cards too close to his chest - and Bangtan could never let someone like him choose his own daughter’s marriage.
He’d told you since you were a young girl to expect this.  An arranged betrothal.
And when you were little you thought it was sort of romantic.  Like some fairytale - a princess locked away in a tower and a knight who was destined to save her.
Except now you were older and it wasn’t all that romantic anymore.
It was stifling.
You knew your father had come to this agreement with Taehyung himself.  You hated that you lived in such a misogynistic world, but it was the way things had always been.
After a long moment and a deep, calming breath, you lifted your hand and knocked, once.
There was a beat and then the portal swung open.
And Kim Taehyung’s wife was smiling widely at you.  You forced your own lips up into a smile.
“Hi!  Y/N, was it?”
You curtsied a little feeling foolish straight after, “Yeah.  Hello Mrs Kim.”
“Ugh Mrs Kim is Taehyung’s mom,” She laughed, “You can call me ___.”
Her eyes were kind as she opened the door further and gestured you inside.
“Come in, please.  Dinner is almost ready and the boys are too.”
The boys.
Your heart skipped a beat.  For a moment you wondered if perhaps your father had somehow secured a marriage to the last available member of the Special Seven, Kim Namjoon.
But you shook your head.
Your father was important, of course… But surely not that important.
Besides, from what you’d heard through the grapevine - since the accident that had caused Namjoon to lose most of his hand - he had pretty much become a hermit. The rumour mill was rife, of course, with people’s theories of what would become of Bangtan’s most eligible bachelor.
Could it be that Kim Taehyung wanted you to take up that mantle?
“I hope you like pasta,” ___ interrupted your thoughts and you looked up as stopped in front of a large dining room, “We hardly ever use this room anymore, but Taehyung thought it was appropriate for tonight.”
Your eyes widened at the opulence of the room you were stood in.  The chandelier that hung in the middle of the ceiling dripped with what you could only guess were the most expensive diamonds money could buy.  The long, mahogany table was ornate and rich - a dark colour that spoke of wealth and taste.
“It’s a little much,” ___ spoke up again and you turned to see her rolling her eyes, “But it was like this when we moved in.  Taehyung’s dad had a lot of money and apparently not a lot of subtlety.”
She laughed at the comment and you giggled too - relaxing a little as the tension eased from your shoulders slightly.  It seemed you’d found something of an ally in Taehyung’s wife and you were thankful for that, at least.
“I know we don’t really know each other,” She started carefully, a perfectly plucked brow pulling up slightly, “But I like to think of myself as a confidant of sorts… Especially when it comes to matters of the heart.”
You raised your own brow, “Matters of the heart?”
She bit her bottom lip and you noticed the pity in her eyes.
As she opened her mouth to answer you, somebody cleared their throat to your left and your head snapped round, finding yourself looking up into the formidable gaze of Kim Taehyung.
He was alone, you noticed immediately, and you tried to keep your expression neutral.
This was the game of Bangtan.  A game you’d grown up in.
A game you knew well.
“Taehyung,” You greeted, nodding gently, “Thank you for inviting me.  It is an honour.”
His handsome face was cold - barely responsive as he nodded back to you, “Y/N.  Welcome to our home.”
Our home.
The words warmed you.
It had been clear for a while now that Kim Taehyung’s only weakness was his wife.  He would burn the entire world down for her - and you’d been told of this time and time again.
They had started off as an arranged marriage - almost six years ago now - when Taehyung’s father and his wife’s father had worked so closely with one another they had promised their children’s hand in marriage in an act of loyalty.
But things had changed in the years since.
It was well established that Kim Taehyung loved only one thing more than he loved Bangtan - and that was his wife.
You tried to focus on that - on the fact that loveless marriages could turn into something else - as ___ nudged her husband playfully.
“Don’t be so formal,” She teased and you couldn’t believe you were witnessing this exchange, “Y/N is a friend.”
Taehyung actually rolled his eyes playfully and smiled down at his wife, “I’m still Capo, darling.”
She laughed as well and your chest tightened.  You wanted that.
The obvious love they had for one another - the way they seemed to be so comfortable with each other it was like they had found their home.
“Well dinner’s almost ready Taehyung so go and get cleaned up.” ____ said, slipping an arm through yours and leading you towards the ridiculous mahogany table, “Come sit over here, Y/N.”
You noticed for the first time that the table was set for four people.
Your heart pounded against your chest.
“Who is it?”
The question slipped out of you before you even had a chance to think it through.  ____ froze. She was slipping into the seat beside you when her eyes turned to your own.
“What?”
“The fourth person,” You whispered, darting your eyes behind you to make sure Taehyung wasn’t within earshot distance, “My future husband.  Who is it?”
____ looked genuinely distraught for a moment.
You clicked your tongue.
“I’m a member of the South Korea mafia, ____, I know how this shit works.”  You noticed your words were a little sharp and you tried to soften them with a weak smile, “Just tell me who it is.  Please.”
____ seemed torn.  Her eyes roved your face carefully and she sighed.
“He’s a good guy.”  She told you carefully, “Really.   I’m not just saying that.”
Your heart dropped.  The look in her eyes - the trepidation….
“It’s Kim Namjoon, isn’t it?”
A throat cleared itself loudly from behind you.  You snapped your head to the side and watched as the man himself sauntered towards the two of you.
“You rang?”  The sarcasm dripped from his tone as he stuck out his prosthetic hand for you to shake.  You supposed he was expecting you to be disgusted - maybe to rebuke him - but you were made of stronger stuff than that.
You forced yourself to smile, “Hello Namjoon.  I’m Y/N.”
He narrowed his eyes as you shook his prosthetic.
“I know who you are,” He raised a dark brow, “The future Mrs Kim Namjoon.”
The words were like heavy bricks - weighing down on your shoulders.
You knew next to nothing about this man.  Despite what ____ had said about him being a good man all you saw was bitterness and anger in his eyes.
“You’re the nurse, aren’t you?”
You nodded carefully and tried to calm your pulse.
“Well now we know why Taehyung chose you for me.  The cripple.”
____ cleared her throat and stood up abruptly.  Her eyes were dark and angry and she shook her head at Namjoon.
“No.  You don’t get to do that to her.  Not when she had nothing to do with any of this.”  Her bottom lip trembled slightly, “Apologise.” Namjoon’s face was a perfect mask of nonchalance.  His eyes flicked between you and ____ and he shrugged.
“What for?”
____ squared her shoulders, “You know exactly what for, Kim Namjoon.”
“I think that’s enough now,” Taehyung entered the room sharply, standing between his wife and friend.  His gaze fell on you after a moment, “I see the two of you have met.”
You nodded wordlessly, wondering just what in the hell was going on.
Namjoon was seething apparently, as he sulked to the left of his friend, arms crossed and eyes dangerously black.
“Was he not as welcoming as he’d promised he’d be?”
“This is ridiculous V, we both know that.  You’ve chosen her because she’s a nurse and because of this,” He stuck his fake hand in the air and you refused to look away.
Nobody else in the room reacted for a moment.
Taehyung took a deep, calming breath.
“That was part of it, yes.”  He said evenly, “Y/N is a trained nurse and therefore she can help you move forward with this.  But she’s also a good match.  Right age, right height… Her parents are wealthy and important like yours.  It is a good union.  I have told you this plenty of times Namjoon.”
“I will not marry her because of pity,” Namjoon spat the word out, “I’m not some fucking charity case-”
“I don’t pity you.” The words flew out of you and when three sets of eyes turned to fall on you, you wondered if it was the right choice.  You chose to focus on Namjoon.
“What?”
“I don’t pity you,” You told him honestly, gesturing to his prosthetic, “What happened is awful, obviously.  And I may never know the full extent of it.  But I don’t pity you.  You are a man with an obstacle in life.  There are many men with obstacles in life.  That doesn’t make you worthy of  pity.”
Namjoon’s eyes searched your face for something - what you weren’t sure - and she sighed heavily.  He seemed so tired.  You noticed the bags under his eyes, the lines in his forehead.  He was young - just a little older than you - and yet it seemed he’d aged so much recently.
“So you want to marry me?  You want to marry a man who’s had to learn how to live - how to do normal every day things like eat with a knife and fork - all over again?”
You shrugged, “I want to do what’s best for Bangtan.  If Taehyung says that’s a marriage between the two of us, then so be it.”
A long moment passed between the two of you.
Namjoon seemed to be sizing you up, and you took the opportunity to do the same.
He wasn’t ugly.  Far from it.  Kim Namjoon was tall and handsome - and from what you’d  heard through the grapevine - he was also smart and kind.
People spoke about him of course - he was a member of the Special Seven - and what they said was normally very positive.
He wasn’t like other Bangtan men.
He was grounded.  He was softer.  A man who used brains instead of braun.
You had to admit, those traits were attractive to you.
Eventually, he spoke.
“Alright then.”  He nodded and gave you a strange look - somewhere between admiration and confusion, “I suppose that says it all.”
Namjoon turned to Taehyung and nodded.
“We’ll get married at the earliest convenience.” _____ gasped from behind you but you barely registered the sound.
It had all been well and good in theory… But now what?
Kim Namjoon stuck his hand out to yours - his real hand made of flesh and bones - and smiled sardonically.
“Welcome to the family, Mrs Kim Namjoon.” You smiled back.  Mrs Kim Namjoon.
You could do this.
//
Planning a wedding was easy when you weren’t trusted to do a single thing.
Kim Namjoon’s family had promised to take care of everything - and as a family higher up in the Bangtan hierarchy than your own - there had been no argument to be made.
This was the way things worked in your world, and you’d learned long ago just to accept it.
You barely saw your husband in the ensuing months.  He dropped by once to meet your parents and officially ask for your hand in marriage, and once more since then to update you on the wedding arrangements.
But apart from that he was like a ghost - you even forgot sometimes that you were supposed to be marrying him.
You rarely thought about the fact that by the end of this year you would be Mrs Kim Namjoon and despite the relatively long engagement - six months was a long time in the world of Bangtan - you were happy you had the time to get used to the idea of marriage.
It wasn’t until one evening when Kim Namjoon came calling for you that the reality of the situation truly sunk in.
You were leaving work - it had been a particularly difficult day so far, and absolutely nothing seemed to be going smoothly.  In fact everything today had felt like it was seconds away from falling apart and you felt like you too, were going to break down.
And as you made your way across the parking lot you found Kim Namjoon, leaning against your car.  How he knew which one was yours was beyond you - but you smiled at him questioningly when you were within earshot.
“Hi.” He smiled almost sheepishly, “Hi.”
“What are you doing here?”
He crossed his arms and squinted one eye shut as he stewed in your question for just a moment.  Then he sighed heavily.
“I’ve been an asshole.”
“Huh?” You raised a brow.
Namjoon groaned and clicked his tongue, “Are you gonna make this difficult for me?”
“What? No!” You shook your head and shrugged, “I just don’t know what you’re talking about.”
“The night I agreed to marry you I was a jerk.  And we’ve barely seen each other twice since we got engaged two months ago.”  He ran a hand through his hair, “I promised myself I wouldn’t be like that.  So I’m sorry.”
You cocked your head to the side, shocked at the show of vulnerability.  Namjoon was a Bangtan man - he should be cold and unforgiving - he should push away intimacy and hate the thought of opening himself up to anyone.
And yet here he was, apologising to you for something you’d assumed was just the way things were done when a marriage was arranged.
“Okay.”  You nodded slowly, “I forgive you.”
He smiled softly and you found yourself thinking he really did look handsome like that.
“I’d like us to be friends at least,” He shrugged, “If nothing else.”
You smiled back, “Friends sounds good to me.”
“Good.  Great.  Thank you,” He gestured to your car, “So can you give me a ride home?” You gave him a questioning look, “How did you get here?”
“My driver dropped me off,” He lifted his prosthetic hand, “I can’t really drive anymore.”
There was a moment of almost awkward silence, but you refused to let something Namjoon couldn’t control, ruin the atmosphere.  He’d apologised to you - he was making something of an effort - and you owed it to him to do your part.
“I can help you with that,” You told him, pointing at his hand, “Getting used to it.  How long have you had it on for?”
“Half a year,” He looked away from you, “It’s still so uncomfortable.”
You took another step towards him and his eyes connected with yours.
“I don’t care.”  You told him firmly, “I don’t care about the prosthetic.  I swear.  And I’m sorry it’s uncomfortable.  I’m sorry it happened to you.  But I’ll help you.  I will.  I promise.”
Namjoon’s eyes softened at your words and you were taken back by the way he was suddenly looking at you.
God.  He really was so handsome.
“Okay.”  He whispered, eyes darting across your face, “Yeah.  Thank you.  That would mean a lot.” The moment was suspended for another moment more, and you wondered if you might do something crazy like try and kiss him - before Namjoon cleared his throat and the spell was broken.
Jesus.
What was going on with you?
Your pulse was racing as you fumbled around your handbag for your keys and you told yourself the nerves were only because of the day you’d had.  It had nothing to do with the handsome man standing in front of you.
“You’re going to have to give me directions to your house,” You told Namjoon as the car unlocked and you both climbed in, “I’ve never had the privilege of visiting.” He snorted a laugh, “It’s a two minute drive from Taehyung’s.  If you drive that way I can guide you.”
“Sounds good.”
You buckled yourself in and tried to ignore the way your cheeks were flushing at the idea of you and Namjoon being in such a small space together, focusing instead on the feel of the steering wheel under your fingers, and trying as much as you could not to stare at him through the reflection of the mirrors.
That would be weird.
Weirder than you were suddenly being.
“How was work?” He asked you once you pulled the car out onto the main road.
You groaned, “Awful.  Today was a bad one.  We have them sometimes but it really lowers your self esteem.  Some of my patients seemed like they couldn’t stand my face.”
Namjoon whistled lowly.
“I can imagine that wouldn’t be a very comforting atmosphere to be in.”
“No, not very,” You shrugged and shot him a look, “But that’s the nature of my job.  Nurses are treated worse than doctors even though sometimes it feels like we do triple the work.”
Namjoon chuckled and you raised a brow, “What?”
“It’s  just…” Out of the corner of your eye you saw him shake his head, “It’s like that with us sometimes.  In Bangtan I mean.  Taehyung is treated with so much respect and reverence - and he deserves it.  Of course he does.  But the rest of us… We work our asses off.  And we barely get any recognition for it.”  He pulled a face, “So I guess I’m trying to say I know how you’re feeling.  Kind of.”
You let this information settle with you.
It made sense of course.
Bangtan was the biggest food chain of them all.  The Capo demanded respect.
And in the little interaction you’d had with him, you saw how intimidating Kim Taehyung could be.  Still.  You imagined that had to be annoying.
“Doesn’t it piss you off?” He scoffed, “Of course it does.  But that’s just Bangtan.  That’s the job.  We don’t do it for recognition anyway.  We do it because we love Bangtan.”
You smiled at that.
It was exactly how you felt about your job.
“Yeah.  I understand what you mean.  As much as it sucks that I don’t always get the praise I feel I deserve… I don’t do it for that.  I do it to help people.”
There was a heavy moment between you both.  Namjoon seemed to be taking in what you’ve said and you found yourself thinking that if it’s this easy to talk to him you might catch yourself falling for your own husband.
“That’s a lovely way to put it,” You felt rather than saw his smile, “My house is just on this curb.”
You slowed the car down and turned to your fiance, surprised when you saw him already smiling at you.
“Thank you.  For this.”  His eyes were gentle and shimmering almost and you once again had to force yourself not to flush, “It’s been…. Nice.” You grinned back, “Alright.  Don’t be a stranger.”
He laughed at that and shook his head.
“I won’t.” He gave you a warm look, “Goodbye Y/N.  I’ll call you soon.”
You nodded, “Okay.  Bye Namjoon.”
He smiled at you once more before climbing out of the car and waving goodbye at you.
And as you drove away all you could think of was this:
Kim Namjoon might very well be the best thing that could have ever happened to you.

Routine.
Defined as habitual tasks you partake in on a regular basis. These monotonous daily routines are what provided a grasp of control amid the uncontrollable and brought you order in a time of uncertainty.
The dawn of a new day started with the bittersweet greeting of the mourning doves’ songs. It gently tugged your consciousness forward, your weary limbs stretching out beneath warm covers. Your eyes would peek open and be greeted by the same dull room, bed tucked in a far corner. The sheets over old furniture still haunted you, the house inherited by past ghosts of memories.
It was a husk you resided in, perhaps a tomb you inherited. And as with every morning, you push the thought away.
A quick wash-up and breakfast helps kickstart your day before you’re off to run any errands listed off in your mind already. Fresh morning dew still glistens on the grass when you leave.
Days where errands would carry you to the harbor would have their own side routine you knew fairly well. Checking Bubu Pharmacy for any medicine pickups for the village elders, a quick chat with Ganyu as you passed her during one of her duties, a passing stop to the markets by the docks for supplies, and the occasional prolonged stay for lunch per the invitation of Zhongli and his courteous acquaintance. Every week, just like clockwork.
The busy day would wind down near the docks, watching the waves as they crashed upon rocks and taking in the scent of the sea spray that swept by you with it’s breeze. If you closed your eyes, the sounds of the sea and bustling voices of the harbor would meld together into one— a comforting cacophony of background noise to keep you grounded before the harbor’s relentless energy swept you away.
The city was a little much for you. It made you miss the tranquility of the small place you resided in tucked far back in the village.
And so everyday your heels pointed back towards home, ending with a meal in between more work you buried yourself in until odd hours of the night.
This was the routine you came to know with seldom any out-of-the-ordinary variation.
And then, curiously, slowly, the yaksha you came to befriend incorporated himself into the routine— first embedded into your routines and soon enough ever-present in your heart. Perhaps you could say that he altered your habits for the better.
Nowadays, leaving the harbor after errands is pleasant. No longer does the road back to Qingce isolate you into your thoughts. The sun that casts mesmerizing hues upon the sky as it sets leaves a pleasant warmth on your face. You look forward to his name on your tongue.
‘Xiao.’
The summon rings out clearly amidst his tumultuous headspace, bringing brief peace with the familiarity of the voice. In an instant he’s at your side, the ominous mist that enveloped him subsiding. There's a wordless question in his eyes as he shyly laces his fingers with yours.
With a light squeeze of his hand, you reply, “Let’s go home.”
There’s a pleasant silence that accompanies these walks, his hand firmly holding yours as if you might slip through his grasp at any given moment. On occasion, he would ask how your day went just to hear your voice. Though he wasn’t fond of the crowded hustle and bustle of the harbor, hearing your little enthusiastic retelling was enough to leave him with vivid imagery. Your voice was his comfort.
Arriving home has also taken on a newfound normalcy. With Xiao around, the once-empty house you inherited no longer feels foreign. Finally, with sure conviction, you can say it feels like your own.
Shelves that were once scarce with items and decor were now neatly arranged with ornaments and small handcrafts that Xiao has given you. The bookshelf that was once littered with dust and cobwebs is now rich with rows of books of all sorts. Even tables and bedside stands that were once empty are now always adorned with flowers that you and Xiao pick while out stargazing. These items are glimpses into the new pastimes you treasure to make time for.
Today was one such day where the breeze was pleasant as the sun tucked away for the night. However instead of being outside, you chose to take up comfort reading indoors. There on a pile of blankets and pillows you sat comfortably, Xiao resting his head on your lap to intently listen to you read aloud.
The adeptus reminded you of a cat that’s getting comfortable with a stranger they keep meeting. The spots he chose to rest on were getting much closer in proximity, but never directly on you. That is, until you boldly asked if he would like to rest on your lap and he settled there gratefully with your permission.
You closed the book, running your hand through his hair to get the yaksha to open one eye. “Are you sure you want to hear me read this poem book again? I’m sure you know it by heart at this point,” you pointed out with a laugh. “Why don’t you choose a book this time?”
There was a moment of contemplation before Xiao relented and went to search through the many book spines readily available. A glistening stone caught his attention again—his hand visibly hesitating for a moment.
You leaned your body over a bit from your comfortable pillow haven, curious as to what book he would select. Part of you expected him to select a random one off the bookcase, and was surprised to have a quaint little red book placed in your hands.
“I’ve been meaning to ask… about this one,” Xiao started, his face neutral but betrayed by the twinge of pink that was hidden by the dimness of the lamplight.
“This is…?”
He shrugged. “The subject of this book— is this something you like?”
Confused, you opened the cover. Inscribed on the inside in unmistakable cursive was a message from a certain librarian— a friend. Your brows creased, mouth pressed in a thin line as your eyes skimmed over the note the particular librarian left. A subtle feeling of dread crept over you.
‘Hey cutie, sent you a few goodies that were offloaded from our catalogue this season. Thought you might enjoy this one to spice things up a bit. I know how curious you were about the forbidden section, so here’s a little glimpse for you.’
Oh no… You quickly skimmed through some pages of the book that felt hot in your grip. Or perhaps it was your entire body flushed with embarrassment at the lewd imagery the story portrayed
“I–I didn’t… I d–didn’t know Lisa sent this along with the other books. This book— I haven’t read before so… um…” You anxiously bit your lip, voice growing quieter the more you went on. “I–It was a gift. I didn’t know.”
Xiao hummed, hand grazing your reddened cheeks curiously as you fanned your face. There was practically steam rolling off you.
“So,” Xiao started cautiously, “The things the book spoke of— it’s not something you like?”
If you were red before, you couldn’t possibly imagine how you looked now.
“N–No! I mean— Yes. I mean—!” You fumbled over your words, flustered over such an erotic novel unknowingly being in your possession.
“So, it makes you… happy?”
“Xiao— Stop, please— I’m going to die of embarrassment,” you squeaked into your hands.
His persistent curiosity would be the death of you at this rate. You buried your face under a pillow, too overwhelmed by the suggestive images still swirling in your head.
A little dumbfounded by your reaction, Xiao could only watch your huddled form hide away as he awkwardly rubbed your back in an attempt at reassurance.
The adeptus finally gained a bit of your attention, quietly inquiring, “Do you not wish to talk about that type of subject?”
The grip on your pillow slowly eased up, partially uncovering your face to meet his gaze. There wasn’t an ounce of discomfort on his face, and it was reassuring save for the fact that you were the one needing to explain.
“It’s not… that I don’t want to. Intimacy like— that—“ You pointed accusingly at the book now in his hands. “Is something, uhm, highly emotional— in a good way! Ah, what am I saying… It’s an act of love and bonding with a significant other, so to speak. Usually. Ah— it’s a little complicated.”
As you fumbled with your train of thought, his hand slowly placed itself over yours, thumb brushing over your knuckles. It drew your little state of panic to a close, feeling him press his lips to your forehead in a moment of soft distraction. It quickly brought a small thankful smile to your lips.
Kisses made you happy. This was a fact Xiao had learned.
“Let’s talk about it another time. Do not stress yourself over it.”
You nod timidly, choosing to hide your face in the crook of his neck. “...Okay.”
Xiao leaves not too long after, disappearing into the shadows to diligently tend to his duties. Sleep finds you quicker when he’s not around, though your mind is still tumultuous.
You had half a mind to go straight to Mondstadt and give Lisa a stern reprimand, not that she would care. If anything, it would fuel her amusement and her teasing would become more unbearable especially when your heart could barely handle Xiao boldly initiating displays of affection. That librarian was more perceptive than her languid facade let on.
For the time being you buried the cursed erotic book within cluttered closet boxes and called it a night.
Out of sight, out of mind.
A bead of sweat rolling down his temple caught a glimmer of the pale moon watching over him. Beasts that were affected by his karmic debt laid strewn across the battlefield. It weighed heavy on his mind, a distasteful reminder of increasing demonic activity with the Lantern Rite a few weeks away.
There was a light burning sensation that twinged Xiao’s calves and arms, and he rolled his shoulders to relieve his muscles from the fatigue of ceaseless combat. His tired muscles were just about ready to turn in for the night and make his way to Wangshu Inn.
But he paused. The voice tugged at his mind.
‘Xiao…’
There was no mistaking it. It was your voice.
The ache in his muscles was an issue for later. There was strain in your voice, evident discomfort. The reason was uncertain but as much as Xiao wanted to deny it, he was alarmed ever so slightly.
A blur of black mist was all it took and he was gone under the serene moonlight. When he found you, his guard was high with lingering confusion. An intruder was his first thought.
A quick walk around the house, footsteps lighter than the breeze that accompanied him. Nothing. No other presences detected either.
‘You called me, but why?’ Xiao questioned.
The bed gently dipped with quiet creaks where he sat next to you, brushing his thumb over your cheek. Your peaceful sleep was broken as your brows slightly furrowed, breathing slightly labored with small whimpers you let out.
“...X–Xiao,” you quietly whimpered amidst your sleep.
Ah, you had summoned him in your sleep then. How odd. It was a first, to say the least, but he couldn’t be upset with you.
‘Another nightmare…?’
Just how bad could a nightmare be that you would desperately call his name in your sleep, he wondered? But a promise was a promise. He was determined to rid you of your ailments if it was within his power.
The yaksha took in a deep breath, focusing himself fully before slowly exhaling a puff of dark mist. The aches in his body went ignored.
Dearest dream eater, won’t you save her?
The sound of his footsteps pacing a dark corridor— humid, stuffy as he pressed forward following the muffled sound of your voice. It’s something he will never forget though he feels he should.
To feel haunted by a dream’s fragments that refuse to vanish is something he should laugh at. It’s not real.
Then why?
Bits and pieces are burned into his memory. Perhaps in a torturously pleasant way he never really imagined. Blame it on him never finding someone he considered such private feelings with.
Xiao did not stay that night after consuming the dream, nor did he come back to check on you come morning as he usually did. On the tiled roof of Wangshu Inn he lays, brows furrowed and a strange warmth pooling throughout his lower torso.
The memory is unlike others that plague him, though it causes him inner turmoil with the increased bodily frustration.
Those eyes… haunt him. The smugness on the face that stared back at him then was enough to piss him off. The reasons festering in his tightened chest he couldn’t quite explain. The fragments would rewind and play, rewind and play, over and over since that night.
‘So,’ the familiar red stranger began with an amused smirk. ‘Looks like the yaksha really will answer any call of his name.’
They made it a point to maintain eye contact as they pressed their lips to your temple, arms holding your back flush against his chest.
Those piercing jade eyes— a mockingly similar exterior. It was like Xiao stared at a twisted reflection of himself conjured by your dream, the red accents in his hair and clothes a fiery scarlet akin to the bubbling anger he felt upon seeing the illusion lay its hands on you. The fact that they spoke in his same voice was enough to raise a rumbling growl within Xiao’s chest.
Quiet huffs left your parted lips as your chest heaved, a scarlet sash tied over your eyes like a blindfold.
‘Xiao, I–‘ Your body shivered at the feeling of his hands gliding over the inside of your thighs. It made you let out an involuntary whimper, cheeks aflame with arousal.
‘That’s enough,’ Xiao commanded the dream illusion of himself through gritted teeth.
The scarlet-hued Xiao shifted you in his lap, his lips set in a mocking smirk as his hand slipped between your legs to elicit sweet mewls from your parted lips. What Xiao wouldn’t give to conjure his spear then and there to wipe that irksome grin off his own face.
The illusion hummed, making it a point to place a kiss to the swell of your exposed chest. ‘Surely you don’t mean to ignore our person’s feelings? Or our own, for that matter. How crude of you, adeptus, to try and stop something she begged me for— something our body clearly begs for, as well.’
‘Quiet.’
The silence was deafening, though the illusion only seemed to stop momentarily out of amusement in seeing how long the real Xiao could uphold such a serious facade. Internally, he battles with two new emotions he hadn’t experienced before— jealousy and arousal. Somehow, because he could channel a warrior's rage through jealousy, the other warm feeling seemed to be drowned out. For now.
‘Silence me all you’d like. Deny your desires until you grow numb, for all I care. But for your human, these desires are your bond,’ the illusion persuaded, unbothered by the icy daggers Xiao glared through him. ‘Isn’t that right, my love?’
His fingers slowly working at the sweet, throbbing ache between your legs left you unable to form any coherent thoughts. Perhaps it was deliberate so your mind was elsewhere, drowning in a hazy pleasure. The gasps and mewls leaving your shaking body were slowly getting to the adeptus. Ironic, just how similar to that stupid book this was.
Xiao scoffed, and prepared himself to finish what he had sought out to do. ‘I don’t concern myself with desires. I’ve had enough of you.’
As Xiao unraveled and crumbled the dreamscape around him, the illusion remained smiling with sly intention.
‘Dishonesty will get you nowhere, Adeptus Xiao. She will be forced to forget this dream, but these feelings you both harbor cannot be erased so easily.’ The illusion lifted the ribbon from your eyes, leaving Xiao momentarily frozen.
Eyes are the windows to the soul, and what he saw in those misty eyes left his body aflame— confused. His tongue darts out to lick his lips, and he swallows thickly.
Once you get a taste, a dormant desire will begin to flourish.
The sly illusion holds their hand out invitingly, jade eyes unreadable as they scrutinize Xiao’s movements. It’s hesitant— the small step forward he takes.
‘What are you waiting for, adeptus?’
There’s a harsh gust of wind that blows through, the skies of Liyue harbor a dull grey with the rolling storm. The crashing sounds of waves upon the rocks below the docks resonate with your tempestuous heart. Weary eyes scan the horizon of the uneven sea, looking past the peaks of Guyun Stone Forest in the distance. You cling onto the hope of catching a glimpse of something— something to ease your worrisome heart.
“It’s been a few weeks,” you note quietly, the door of the balcony clicking shut as you walk back into the warm home office.
Yanfei answers without looking up, her hands still furiously scribbling on the parchments that have slowly accumulated into a towering pile. “He’s probably busy. With what exactly, I wouldn’t know— but I’m sure you have a better idea.” She sighs, regretting the coldness of her blunt tone. She adds in a softer tone, finally looking up, “Sorry, I’m not much help if it’s not consultation involving the law.”
The legal adviser can only watch helplessly as your eyes drift back to the window to gaze out beyond the sea’s horizon.
“He’s going to the Lantern Rite festivities with you, right?”
You turn back enough to meet her hopeful gaze with a sad smile. The silence is all the answer she needs.
“Was that a stupid question to ask?”
You shake your head, and turn your face back to the window so she can’t look further into the feelings you try to conceal.
The Lantern Rite was in a few days, and Xiao was nowhere to be seen. Though there've been occasions where you hardly saw him, this… this time was different. It was a feeling you couldn’t shake off and it filled you with uneasiness.
The thought of calling his name and receiving no answer terrified you. Doubt was quick to grip your mind in a vice.
“I think I’m the stupid one.”

Would love to see supercorp “I’ve never been festive”! Glad to see you back on my dashboard!
The thing about Lena, Kara thinks to herself as she strolls down Main Street with her hands shoved in her pockets, is that she wants to seem tough. That's the problem in a nutshell. And anyone else here in Midvale would tell you that it's just a city thing, that all the city kids want to seem tough, that Lena is no exception, but Kara doesn't think that's true. Well, okay, she knows it's true. But with Lena, it's something else. Something deeper. Something maybe related to the way that Lena has withdrawn into herself day by day as Midvale has begun to dress itself up for the holidays.
But Kara can do I'm-so-tough. She can do I-hate-Christmas, and she can do I-don't-believe-in-fun because at this time of the year she can do anything and get through to anyone. A little bit of light, a little bit of magic... maybe a little bit of love. That's how Christmas goes, right? Especially in a place like Midvale.
Kara likes to think of Midvale as a postcard town: the kind of town folks are only ever passing through on their way up and down the coast, a scenic detour, a cozy place to spend the night or just the afternoon before you move along. It's a place where time seems to have come to a standstill or at least a crawl, where it was a big deal when the first (and only) Starbucks opened, where nothing at all is open after 8pm, and you'd be hard pressed to run any errands on a Sunday, and you'd better not let Mrs. Nal catch you doing anything untoward or you can expect you'll be the topic of every conversation in or out of church for the next week or so at least. Kara would know; she's been the talk of the town on more than one occasion.
But these last several weeks the talk of the town has been the young woman who pulled up one evening in a car worth probably more than every vehicle on Main Street put together and strolled into the aforementioned Starbucks in a beat up hoodie sporting red rimmed eyes and trembling hands to ask the barista whether possibly anyone had a spare phone cable. She didn't want to bother anyone, only she'd left Metropolis in a hurry and forgotten hers and without GPS she didn't have any idea where she might stop to purchase one. She'd slid a hundred dollar bill across the counter as payment for the manager's beat up old charger and rolled right back out of town before anyone could tell her just how far from home she was.
Only then she'd rolled back into town some six hours later and booked herself into the bed and breakfast. And then she hadn't left.
The Danvers have assured Kara that in all the years Eliza and Jeremiah have run the bed and breakfast, and all the years Jeremiah's parents ran it before that, stretching back all the dusty decades since Midvale was founded, they have never had a longterm guest, no sir. It has simply never happened before. Kara doubts the veracity of such a statement but it has been delivered to her with all the solemn weight of sacred fact, and so she's taken it in stride - something which Alex seems to have found suspicious. And, true, on another occasion Kara might have been found elbow deep in records on a personal mission to prove that Jeremiah has pulled this particular historical "factoid" from some place the sun don't shine, but, well, she's been a little distracted these past weeks. Distracted by sad green eyes and coy smiles and the overwhelmingly mysterious circumstances that have delivered Lena directly into Kara's home.
Unfortunately Eliza has strictly forbidden Kara from asking the hundred and one questions perpetually on the tip of her tongue, and Kara's objections that she's twenty four now and she'll ask her questions if she so pleases haven't actually outweighed the sense that, at least where Eliza is concerned, she ought to do as she's told. So she's restrained herself. And as the weeks have gone by, she and Lena have fallen into an amicable, if not entirely comfortable, routine.
Kara serves Lena breakfast in the dining room with the other guests at precisely 8:15 every morning: two poached eggs with avocado on a thick slice of Winn's sourdough bread, a cup of coffee (black, diluted with hot water), and a side of roasted vegetables (no potatoes). Every morning Lena invites Kara to join her at the table, though Kara only does so when there are no other guests around to serve. They eat - together or not - in a silence broken only by small talk and the occasional lingering gaze when one catches the other looking until, at precisely 9:15, Lena excuses herself to seek out Eliza and enquire after the availability of another night's lodging. She pays in cash, one day at a time, without fail. She and Kara see one another again on the stairs, Kara on her way out to work a shift at the library and Lena on her way back up to her room. A small smile passes between them, affectionate and familiar, and Kara thinks perhaps... But no, the moment has passed and they've gone their separate ways for another day.
Kara has resolved that this pattern will not repeat itself again. Not now, not when Midvale is draped in heavy golds and greens, when the smell of Christmas pastry is wafting through the streets, when the trickle of seasonal tourists is threatening to become a thunder which will by necessity pry Kara's attention away. Not now when Lena is withdrawing further and further, when those lingering glances at breakfast seem to be few and far between, and it seems the onslaught of Christmas cheer is threatening to drive Lena out of Midvale altogether. If Kara is going to get through to her, today is the day.
She swings into J'onn's diner with a determined expression, sidestepping the younger Arias who has eyes these days only for her iphone and not so much for where she's going. J'onn is predictably behind the counter; Kara isn't sure he's taken a day away from the diner in all the time she's known him.
"I need two to go mugs of Bad Day Danvers Brew," she tells him. "It's urgent."
He plops two large paper cups down onto the counter almost before she's done asking. "I thought your sister was on duty tonight."
"She was. Is. It's not- It's for me."
"I don't suppose this has anything to do with a certain green eyed young lady from out of town."
It's not really a question the way J'onn says it but Kara somehow still feels pressured to answer. She flushes, turns away, scans the room. The dinner rush hasn't quite arrived. J'onn bustles about behind the counter without further comment, though he does arch an accusatory brow when Kara meets his eyes again.
"You do know," he says as he slides the drinks across the counter, "She's going to leave this place. She may not be ready yet, but the day is coming."
Kara frowns at him. "Leave is a four letter word."
"L - e - a -"
"You know what I mean."
"Maybe you should consider it too. Whole world out there waiting for you, Little Danvers. Seems a shame not to go out and see it."
Kara thinks for a moment of this world as she saw it first: a little marble hanging in a black sea, so fragile and small, so far away from home. Midvale is home now, and she'll be damned if she's going to leave it behind. She forces a smile for J'onn's sake.
"I'm right where I'm supposed to be," she says. She tries to pay him for the drinks. As he has a hundred times before, he turns her money away. Kara slips the cash into the tip jar on her way out the door.
When she gets home it's to the smell of apple pies bubbling in the oven and the sound of some old 50's Christmas record playing almost too loud for Jeremiah's battered old bluetooth speaker and hardly loud enough to compete with Jeremiah himself. Kara creeps up the stairs two at a time, one Bad Day Danvers Brew clutched in either hand, quiet quiet quiet. If Eliza catches her she'll try to put her to work and Kara isn't sure she can explain exactly what she means when she says she's too "busy" right now to help out.
She occupies herself with that thought, thinking up excuses for Eliza, each one more improbable than the last, and then she finds herself standing in front of Lena's door. She feels suddenly grimy, foolish, clumsy. What she hasn't considered in all her planning for this moment is that with both hands occupied she can hardly knock on Lena's door, and with her heart pounding an urgent rhythm in her chest and her body trembling with something that is distinctly not fatigue Kara doesn't trust herself to tuck one of the drinks into the crook of her arm.
So she does what any sane person would do: she kicks the door. Gently. As gently as she possibly can, but it still feels brutish and Kara winces as the sound of it tumbles down the hall to clash with Jeremiah's crooning and the roar of the vacuum cleaner in the foyer. Grimy, foolish, clumsy. But then the door swings open and all such thoughts fall from Kara's mind.
She has words picked out for this moment but they don't come to her. Lena stands in the doorway in jeans and a cardigan and socks that have bumble bees on them and Kara feels like she needs just a moment but the moment is already passing. Green eyes search hers, curious, bemused. Kara wants to reach out and tuck that stray lock of hair away, but-
The drinks. Right. "I brought refreshments," she says, proferring the paper cups. "For us," she adds, in case it isn't clear.
Lena reaches out for one of the cups, hesitant, then pries the lid off to take a whiff. "Hot chocolate?"
Kara wants to melt on the spot but she sticks to her guns. "It's special hot chocolate," she clarifies. This is not how this conversation was supposed to go. She had this exchange all planned out, there were contingencies, it was all perfect and here she is muddying it all up. "I was thinking maybe we could go out tonight."
"Like on a date?"
Oh, Rao. Kara's eyes drops to Lena's mouth without her say so and then they travel a little further south to the line of that cardigan and she swallows. "No," she forces out, "like on a walk?"
There's a long pause and then Lena laughs. "You're really very charming, Danvers," she says, and Kara feels an unexpected thrill at the sound of her last name in Lena's mouth. "Let me just get my sweater."
"You're already-" Kara starts, but the door clicks shut before she can finish. "Wearing a sweater," she mumbles to herself.
Lena emerges some minutes later, just when Kara is beginning to get fidgety. She's thrown on a hoodie which is perhaps a size too big and a pair of converse rather the worse for wear and Kara isn't sure what she was expecting but it wasn't this. Which is not to say that she doesn't like it. Lena licks her lips and fixes Kara with a pointed look.
"There is whisky in that hot chocolate," she says.
Kara shrugs. "I did say it was special."
They make it down the stairs and out of the bed and breakfast without Eliza noticing, though Kara is all but certain Jeremiah saw them leave together and will have Questions with a capital Q about it later. The sun is just now sinking below the horizon as the two of them turn down Main Street, ducking around Mr. Schott who is occupying most of the sidewalk with a rickety old ladder in an attempt to install another strand of lights above the toy store window. Already the street lamps bear oversized red bows and long, heavy pine garlands, and it will be only a matter of days now before every storefront from here to the edge of town is bright and warm and magical. Kara takes it all in with a growing smile. Lena takes it in with an expression that borders on an outright scowl.
"So are we going anywhere in particular?" Lena asks. They duck around a knot of visitors asking after a table at the brewery and for an instant Kara is almost certain she feels Lena's fingers brush hers.
"We are," Kara admits. And then, because she doesn't want to give away their destination, she adds, "You don't like Christmas."
Lena grimaces and takes a long sip of the Bad Day Danvers Brew. "I wouldn't say that I don't like Christmas."
"But?"
"But I've never been festive. And this year..."
Kara's mind fills in the words that Lena doesn't say: This year it's hard. Hard to see the joy and the magic and the laughter all around when you're alone and far from home. Well, Kara knows a thing or two about that. She takes a sip of her own drink and, resolutely, carefully, looking straight ahead, she reaches out to touch Lena's hand, so gentle it could have been an accident.
"This year you have me," Kara says. She's shocked the line comes out of her mouth as smoothly as it does. Her heart is so far up her throat she almost fears she'll choke on it.
Lena steps in closer until Kara swears she can feel the heat radiating between them even through both of Lena's sweaters and her own Christmas flannel. They walk in silence for a block or so, shoulders bumping once in a while, before Lena asks, "Do you have any favorite holiday traditions?"
Kara shrugs. "I like the carols. Jeremiah and I always go out caroling on Christmas eve. Oh! And the cookies. Pie for breakfast on Christmas morning."
Lena laughs at that. "Pie for breakfast? Lilian - my step mother - she'd have a fit."
"Well you can have pie with us this year if you want; I promise not to tell Lilian a thing. If you're still hanging around."
Lena looks at her sharply and then looks away, leaving Kara to feel silent and small and a little rejected. But Lena touches Kara's wrist as they move through the crowd and then, when Kara doesn't pull away, she takes her hand.
"Christmas is always an important social event for my family," Lena says. She glances at Kara as if to check that she's listening and then away again so quickly that Kara almost wonders if she imagined it. "Everything has to be perfect. The food, the decorations, the music. The family. And it's beautiful, really. Imagine a pine tree towering up to the very rafters, all the ornaments carefully curated and arranged, and a cellist flown in from Italy perches in the corner playing O Come Emmanuel while the city's elite pass through pretending to enjoy bite sized Christmas pastries prepared overnight by a team flown in from France. I suspect it would feel magical if it weren't so much work. It's hard to enjoy the magic when you're a part of it. Especially as a child."
Kara frowns. Her fingers tighten around Lena's, tugging her ever forward towards the Christmas tree in the center of town. She's thinking of Krpyton, of a perfect family, a perfect people, and a perfect world crumbling under the veneer. But she can't say that to Lena, so she flashes her a bright smile instead and says, "In Midvale, everyone who wants to gets to put an ornament on the town tree."
"Everyone? That doesn't seem practical. There have to be, what, at least a thousand people living here."
Kara nods. "Yeah. Not everyone participates, but most people. And of course that means the tree isn't curated like your family's, but it's got a special kind of magic to it. The kind you get when you aren't trying to make magic follow the rules."
It occurs to Kara that there is a sort of comedic timing to this, as this is the moment Kara steps over the low fence with the sign that reads "do not walk on the grass" and tugs a protesting Lena after into the shade - or, in this case, the light - of the Midvale tree.
"Rules," Lena is saying, "Generally exist for a reason, and when you break them willy nilly you don't get magic, you get chaos. It's important to- Wait, is this your Christmas tree?"
"Yep," Kara says. She reaches out to press a hand to the trunk and then stares up at the tiny golden lights wound among the branches with care, ornaments dangling here and there, some homemade and some not. She's definitely not supposed to get this close to it but, well, it's Alex on duty tonight and she doubts her sister is about to arrest her for trying to make a move on a pretty girl. "This is the one."
"But it's an oak tree," Lena observes. She steps up beside Kara to touch the trunk.
"Couple hundred years old, or so they told us in middle school," Kara says. "She's a gorgeous tree, isn't she? Not a pine and not perfect, but. Our own kind of magic." Then she grimaces. "Sorry; I'm being terribly cheesy right-"
"Did you know that mistletoe often grows in the California oak?" Lena interrupts.
Kara falters. She did know that, but this tree is carefully tended. No mistletoe here. She opens her mouth to say so when Lena holds up a finger to stop her again.
"To be perfectly clear I'm suggesting that we kiss here under this tree. Because you're charming and a little over the top and I hate that I love your Christmas flannel and I would very much like to have pie with you on Christmas morning. So if you'd like we can pretend there's mistletoe in the Midvale Christmas tree. It would be a very reasonable mistake; mistletoe really does grow on-"
Kara kisses her. The surprised gasp that falls from Lena's lips almost makes her laugh, but this is a serious moment so she tries to keep it in. She's got only one hand to work with - the other is still hold her Bad Day Danvers Brew - so she slides it around Lena's waist to pull her closer, and it's her turn to gasp when Lena tilts her head to slide her tongue along Kara's bottom lip.
Someone on the sidewalk cheers, and that is when Lena drops her drink. And then they do laugh together there under the tree, spiked hot chocolate splattered over the bottom of Lena's pants, Kara pressing her own drink into Lena's hands, and the sound of Mrs. Nal nearby screeching about public indecency while James tells her to go suck an egg. The two of them will be the talk of the town for weeks. Certainly through New Years. Kara doesn't think she minds.

Merry Christmas to everyone celebrating; Happy Holidays and a lovely morning to everyone who is not! Thank you for this prompt! I expected to write a quick 800 words but it got away from me and took all month.

The heavy pouring rain waged war against your once dry and stylish jacket. The piece of clothing now resorted to an added weight as you strode forth to reach your apartment complex. Luckily you were only a street away, your hurried walk turning into a legitimate jog when the storeyed building came into sight. It was Friday night, meaning the day you worked overtime for the sake of earning a little extra as well as filling in for a coworker. Most of the day the weather had been miserable, the sky maintaining a mundane and drilling grey cloudy sketch that slowly collected into rain. Luckily your morning walk to work hadn't been affected by the downfall but the weather had chosen to stick around for your walk home.
Your jacket glued itself to your frame as its capability to keep you dry fleetly decreased, the hoodie underneath beginning to dampen ever so faintly too. Your pants were already taken to the rain, answering its call by absorbing the water into the fabric and making them exceptionally uncomfortable to wear. The pair of shoes on your feet struggled to bind together as they countlessly stepped in puddle after puddle, wearing and tearing with every step you took.
Cars passed by, tires causing gushes of water to hit the pavement. The street lamps did nothing to show your presence as they sped by, your body growing damper from the droplets of water hitting you. You briefly scolded the inconsiderate drivers in your head, eyes glancing ahead to meet an approaching individual. They were most likely a neighbour but given the darkness surrounding you weren't entirely sure, ultimately deciding to keep your head down and not draw attention to yourself.
In truth, this wasn't the only reason.
During the last week and a half, your want to socialise was relatively low, finding a lot of your spare time spent at home and in your own company. The separation from society was healthy for your recently plagued mind, spending afternoons finding all kinds of homely leisure to pass the hours by. It felt much more wholesome and enjoyable to endeavour in a story from your bookshelf or writing poetry in your journal straight from the heart rather than sitting aimlessly on your phone. Simply scrolling through social media to bore the day away.
Why the sudden stray from society to your own little world? Well... sometimes having a popular Pro Hero as a boyfriend came with its cons. Especially when hardships came between. As of the Tuesday approaching, it would be your ten-month anniversary with your partner - Hanta. Or what he was better known as; Taping Hero: Cellophane.
Yours and his meet was rather mundane truth be told. What started as a journey to purchase a recently released volume of one of Hanta's favourite manga comics took a drastic turn and became something much more meaningful. He caught you grabbing the final copy available, smoothly swooping in to attempt to charm you into giving him the comic (the ravenette had been to about five stores before that during patrol - a rather lousy thing to do but he justified his actions with lack of spare time). However, he walked out with a date two nights later instead, finding himself be moved by your own charms and attraction that Hanta urged himself to ask and not miss the chance.
From there, things were taken slow. His social status was shared pretty quickly, faster than Hanta felt comfortable with - liking the idea of you liking him for who he was over his fame and wealth. It didn't affect your perspective of the ravenette, since you had already fallen for him before such information could be told. It took a month before you officially became boyfriend and girlfriend, and life couldn't have been better for the pair of you. For the most part, your relationship was perfectly stable and as healthy as you could make it. But unfortunately, all good things must come with a cost.
See, one thing you were to learn with growing closer to Hanta was he kept his personal life extremely separate from his heroic persona. Such a statement was made very clear before you brought your relationship to the next level since the ravenette requested that if you were to become lovers that he would want it to remain private. So he could feel he had a somewhat normal life outside of his duties as a hero. Whilst becoming a Pro was his dream and the man loved his job, Hanta was also a sucker for peace and quiet too. Having that metaphorical and literal balance in his life granted him inner peace, and as his partner, you respected that.
At least at first, since you didn't think you would reach ten months together and still be hiding behind sunglasses whenever the pair of you wanted to see a movie.
You couldn't lie, it was endearingly sweet Hanta felt that way, partly anyway. The fact he cherished your love and relationship so close to his heart that it was only shared between you two. But your irrationality couldn't help but make you wonder how in a concerning way, Hanta's desire to keep you from his greatest achievement in life (becoming a top ten pro) almost felt like he was hiding you... like he didn't want you a part of it. And once that thought struck you as the ravenette rested peacefully beside you one night, it didn't shy away anytime soon. Given the fact you had spoken briefly about making yourselves public in the past with little to no issue, you didn't think you would cause harm by bringing it up again. But it seemed your choice of when to bring it up was poor, as it most certainly did not run smoothly between you.
Something about his day had irritated Hanta, and so you pinning such focus on the subject seemed to pass him over his limit. There were a few snaps here and there, which you didn't necessarily appreciate, and Hanta's lack of enthusiasm and care for your request made you all the more upset. So weighted emotions matched with the evident disagreement surely lead to Hanta storming out of your apartment with such a slam to the door you wouldn't have expressed shock if your neighbour's stepped out in the hall to see the chaos ensuing.
That was nine days ago, and so far neither of you had seen nor spoken to the other. You'd made attempts to contact him since then, attempts you knew before you tried would come out unsuccessful. But from observation, Hanta was surprisingly a complete mess when it came to emotions based on negativity. Whenever the ravenette grew angry or agitated he became a closed book, so hard for you to read that the only thing you learned that worked was to give him space. To let him get through his upset alone since he never seemed to allow for outer help and comfort to assist. Which you despised because you wanted to help him through his troubles. To be there as the big spoon or to be the shoulder to cry on. But stupid male pride got in the way, Hanta building a wall so high and thick between him, his emotions and you that truth be told you had no idea how to push through.
So you resorted to letting him get over it in his own time, knowing deep down he would come around eventually. It wasn't the first quarrel you'd had and hopefully not the worst, and you knew this was Hanta's way of dealing with it. Whilst you had been willing to wait it out, you placed that thought in your head thinking it to be only two or three days before Hanta made some sort of effort.
But it was nine. And that was beginning to concern you greatly.
You finally reached the stairs leading up to your apartment building, the relief flowing through your system so freeing and wonderous. All that was left was to type in the passcode by the main doors and you would be merrily under shelter, able to kick off your trainers and slip into some comfy sweats. Perhaps even make yourself a warm cup of cocoa and watch an episode of a show you needed to catch up on before the sweet release of sleep. Or so you thought it was going to go.
Twenty minutes later and your thumb grazed lightly over your phone's home screen, imaginatively stroking the black hair of a certain boy you loved dear as he smiled cross-eyed back at you. The photo was taken when Hanta took you ice skating in the countryside during the winter which previously passed. He discovered a secluded location hiding a spacious lake that had been glazed with thick, sturdy ice. After numerous times of losing your balance, Hanta deemed it amusing to take a photo with you as you sat on your backside in defeat. And whilst it did humiliate you, you adored Hanta's goofy looking face in the photo. Hence why it was your background.
You'd found yourself staring at the photo the night prior too, contemplating whether to try to call again or not. What if something was wrong? What if Hanta was injured and somewhere under repair at one of the numerous hospitals in the city? God... what if the doofus finally slung himself across the city as crazily as that Western hero he never shut up about and fell to his death? And your setback from social media was the reason you hadn't found out yet? See! This was a reason why you wanted to go public! At least in an emergency, somebody would know who to contact!
Your brows crinkled at that final thought, what began as concern moving back a step to annoyance and you settled on tossing your phone behind you on your bed in defeat. Proceeding to stand upright, you tugged the oversized hoodie (Hanta's hoodie not to mention) on your person and wandered through the rooms of your apartment to your kitchen. Where the bubbling of your kettle boiling water filtered your ears. The low hum calmed you as you leaned against the counter in thought, arms crossed over your chest and your eyes focused deeply beyond the wooden flooring.
Tap. Tap. Tap.
The noise went unheard at first, so occupied in your head you mistook the sound for the kettle boiling. But when the triple trill sounded again, it dawned on you that that was most certainly not how a kettle was supposed to sound. Snapping out of your focus, your head lifted to the kettle before it scanned the room around you. Nothing seemed different at all, and nothing inside your apartment had a reason to make such a sound.
Unless you had rats... then maybe that would make sense.
Please don't be rats.
Having no initial success, you blankly went back to your thoughtful state - the kettle finally boiling. Permitting you to fill the lavender painted mug that waited impatiently on the side, four heaped teaspoons of cocoa powder begging for hydration inside. Now actually having something to do you hoisted yourself off of the counter, stepping to the one opposite to do the task at hand. But then just as you were going to pour the heated water...
Tap, tap, tap, tap, tap!
This time it was more rushed and heightened, holding a lack of patience to a certain extent. It was there you finally trailed your eyes left, right and centre, your E/C irises landing on the french doors past your sofa which lead to your balcony. Doing as much as possible to downplay your panic by putting on a brave face, you manoeuvred from your perch in the kitchen and headed for the doors to glance outside. Thankfully the light on the balcony was switched on, giving you a glimpse of silhouettes to the arrangement of the outdoor area. At first, nothing seemed different at all. Just the usual setting your balcony always had. A few potted plants and a small sakura blossom which you'd been growing from the seed, as well as a glass table and four chairs. Not to mention the closed up umbrella and pole reaching for the stars above too. But looking over your observations, something went amiss. Since when did you have five chairs?
Squinting your eyes in a struggle to focus better, they were only set to widen as it hit you what you could see. There, perched on your balcony in a squatting position was a person... balancing perfectly on the thin pole as their head leaned forwards to occasionally peer inside the glass doors. It took a second or two for you to figure out what was going on. But the moment you recalled the fact you had a boyfriend with the ability to swing from rooftop to rooftop, your heart both plummeted to your feet and leapt to the heavens above simultaneously.
After realising what was happening, you moved to the lock of the glass doors and grabbed hold. That movement seemed to indicate shifting on the exterior because the person on the other side stood upright and casually stepped off the railing as though it were a stair. You swallowed thickly, clamping down on the inside of your cheek in worry that you could not see his face. Unfortunate for your nerves since at least then you could gain some form of presumption to what his expression read. So walking in blind, you unlocked the door and jiggled it open, the glass door sliding to the side easily. Quickly did the silent walls of your apartment be filled to the brim with the heavy downpour of rain and distant car horns in the distance. As well as the overhanging state of tension in the air as your eyes trailed up the slender frame of your visitor and meeting the ebony eyes you'd been missing for far too long now.
"What... what are you doing here?" You uttered out after a long twenty seconds passed. Upon opening the door no words were said, only the longing gaze of two conflicted lovers. Hanta stood before you with a discouraged expression, lips tightly pursed together with no catchphrase toothy grin to show. He was donning his hero costume, though his helmet appeared to be missing for reasons you didn't know why. But it didn't help Hanta one bit since his black locks were laced with the heavy downpour from above. You imagined his hero costume was drenched as well, damp spandex sounding all too discomforting in your head as you used it as a focus to ease the nerves you felt to the sudden visit.
"Hey," Hanta finally said after what felt like a millennium. What were his usual cheerful tones came out low and unsure, like the ravenette hadn't come prepared and was relying on other factors to push himself forward. With sunken brows and a clear of his throat, Hanta continued as he lifted his eyes to meet yours. "Can I come in?"
"Oh... right, sure," You stated blankly and stepped back for him to do so. At first, you wanted to ask him why he decided to come to your balcony of all things, but the look in his eyes had convinced you to wait for that chance. There was just something about those gorgeous orbs of ebony you couldn't say no to - conflict or not. Luckily your apartment flooring was hard, meaning any water from Hanta's shoes (or soles as his costume didn't use shoes) could be mopped up and dealt with later. Not that you were thinking about that at all. Your mind was too focused on processing what was going on.
"I was in the neighbourhood and you know that my tape is crap in rain so... I didn't know where else to crash," Hanta started once inside your apartment. He nervously laughed as though to ease inner feelings, hands meeting his hips in a lost attempt to make conversation. It was mainly due to the fact you hadn't properly greeted him, sort of dawdling between him and the sofa. You looked Hanta up and down and sighed, seeing how soaked he was.
"Here... slip this on," You lifted your hands over your head to tug the hoodie off, holding it out for Hanta to take. It was his anyway, and it would be a lie to say you weren't wearing it for his scent. Underneath the hoodie, you donned a simple black tank top you tended to wear during your morning jogs or times of exercise. The ravenette took it reluctantly, initiating you to head for your bedroom. "I'll go grab you some pants too. And a towel for your hair,"
"Oh... okay then," Hanta was genuinely astonished by the hospitality, watching you disappear down the hall. As you grabbed the aforementioned items, he began to remove the top half of his hero costume. It was true that Hanta loved his hero costume very much but when it came to the rain he wanted nothing more than to change the design completely. The spandex soaked up the rain and it took hours to drip out, not only dampening him but also multiplying its weight much more than double its usual. With his tape dispenser shoulder pads placed on the floor, Hanta stripped himself of his top half. Sighing when he discovered the rain had seeped through and dampened his skin. Luckily you entered the room shortly after, carrying some grey sweats of Hanta's and a freshly cleaned towel.
"So... is there any other reason you decided to scare the crap out of me on my balcony?" You questioned flatly, a hand on your hip as you held the towel out for Hanta, placing the sweats on the sofa cushion next to him. He mumbled a quick thanks, promptly starting to dry his upper half.
"Well yeah," The ravenette stopped momentarily to glance your way, ebony eyes finding you back at the countertop in the kitchen where you resumed the task of making cocoa. Hanta quickly expressed a sigh. "W-We gotta talk,"
"About?" You asked innocently, though you were fully aware of what was being implied. Chewing the inside of your cheek as you did your best not to make eye contact, Hanta furrowed his brows at you.
"I think you know,"
"Well, are we starting afresh or picking up where we left off? The moment you decided to storm out of here and slam the door shut?" You spoke in a passive-aggressive manner because truth be told, you didn't appreciate Hanta's way of handling your last discussion at all. So you were certainly planning on letting him know. Speaking of which, Hanta was now scrubbing his raven locks dry as his eyes closed in response. Almost like he expected you to react in such a manner. Though he refrained from biting back, knowing that would only make it worse. Not his aim for visiting.
"Starting afresh,"
"Okay then," Was all you said, stirring your spoon and tapping it quite obnoxiously on the side of the mug before dropping it into the kitchen sink. Then you moved to the fridge to grab yourself some squirty cream. The can practically empty, it reminded you how badly you needed to go grocery shopping the next day. As for a reply, from across the room, you could only see the essence of hesitance. Either from Hanta figuring where to go from that or ultimate regret for even coming. Your bets were on both.
"Look Y/N -," The ravenette began, relatively quick to dry the rest of himself off and to put on the remaining clothes. Just as he was prepared to skirt over to your side, his actions ceased upon seeing you setting yourself down on the armchair opposite. Hanta had a moment where he didn't move, unsure what to do before he resorted to sitting down on the sofa. Feeling it the only safe thing to do. "I don't want problems between us. It's the last thing I want, okay?"
"I um... okay," You said, fingertips tapping lightly against the ceramic mug filled to the brim with whipped cream and cocoa. Hanta met your gaze for a split second, hands proceeding to fiddle with the other much more prominently.
"But... I want you to know that I've been thinking about it and well... I guess if it'll make you happy, I'm willing to do it and go public," Hanta spoke through a sigh. Peculiar, because a week ago you would have probably broken into a bright smile and jumped straight into the ravenette's arms then and there. Yet, you remained in your seat and mouthed a small oh of... disappointment was it? Whilst you weren't certain what it was, it most definitely felt like that. Which was odd because the words Hanta had just uttered were the ones you had been waiting to hear for months now.
Funnily enough, it didn't take you long to figure out why. Because throughout the previous week and the lack of contact, that's exactly what had been the route of the problem. The way Hanta treated you during your last interaction and the lack of communication mixed with it. It wasn't the original issue anymore. Of course, you still wanted that. But you additionally craved a sense of closure for how you were treated.
"Hanta I...," Hanta's brows crinkled together in a frown, not shy to display his confusion to your hesitant tones.
"What? What is it? T-That's what you want right?" He replied.
"Yes, it's what I want. But that's not the issue anymore,"
"What do you mean? I'm not following...," His response made you scoff. Not exactly great for the situation at hand. You remained silent for a little bit longer, scratching the side of your head as you sat upright to elaborate.
"Hanta... you haven't texted or called me in over a week. You walked out of here after a fight and practically went radio silent!" Was your protest, watching as Hanta fell back against the sofa. Unbeknownst to you, there was another reason he did this. An inner conflict he had yet to unveil. A prolonged silence ensued as if Hanta was trying to find the correct words to say.
"Because I needed space Y/N... time to think!"
"Yeah well we both did... but even calling just to say that would have been reassuring," You weren't finished despite trailing off, Hanta seeming to notice by the way your lips were faintly parted. "I know you have a busy schedule but... but...," The thought entered your mind for a split moment, doing much more damage than intended.
"But what?"
"It doesn't matter. I-it's stupid," You tried to brush it off, suppressing the thought further down into your system so it wouldn't win you over. Hanta didn't seem to like that though, his head tilting your way with his eyes boring into your own. He could tell when something was bothering you, just from your body language.
"No. Tell me,"
"You're not losing interest in me, are you?" It sounded ridiculous the moment you uttered the words, and it sounded even more ridiculous as Hanta's hands met the bridge of his nose in a heavy sigh. Quickly causing you to further your point. "I-I just thought that you not wanting to go public and being 'busy' was a nice way of saying -,"
"Don't even finish that sentence,"
"Sorry," The silence lingering between you both drowned out your voice, to which you looked down at your hands with a sigh. The ravenette sat upright rather abruptly, shifting onto his feet and coursing a hand through his hair. There was a clashing frown on his face as he reflected on the words he just heard.
"I can't believe you would even think that... that I'm growing tired of you!" Hanta called out in disbelief, near offended by the accusation. His body twisted to face you, eyeing you down for some sort of explanation or justification to what you said.
"It's hard not to when you're giving off all these... these signs!" That was your best response. Though you were set to be cut off by another sharp sigh from Hanta. One of many expressed that rainy night. You watched as he walked on over to the glass doors he entered moments earlier, observing the rain slashing harshly against the clear surface. It had grown even heavier since his entry, the back of his mind relieved to be out of the dangerous weather and inside closed doors. He didn't ponder on it long though, returning to the situation at hand and leaving the indistinct 'pitter-patter' of the rain behind him.
"Y/N have you ever thought for a single moment why I've kept you secret for so long?"
"You said you liked your private life to be away from your hero one... a-and I get that!" You replied urgently. "I'm okay with all the publicity and the social media responses and -," As though he expected that answer, Hanta interrupted you with a near saddened laugh. It caused you to frown and glare his way, about to raise your voice if not for his own voice filling the apartment.
"You know my job isn't just walking around being a celebrity, right?" Hanta glanced back at you. "I'm a hero for crying out loud! I protect people from danger! People like you!" The ravenette pressed a closed fist against the glass pane of the door, forehead inches away from the surface since Hanta shifted most of his weight onto it. You tilted your head, frowning.
"I know that but -,"
"But do you?" Hanta's tone came off harsher than intended to emphasise his point. But he was quick to abandon it, clicking his tongue in defeat to a battle in his head when he realised he had to explain his case. He'd been reluctant to say anything about his activities in the last week since technically not even the press knew, but lying wasn't going to get Hanta and you anywhere. So he surrendered to the urge and spoke. "Listen, the reason I didn't message you this week is that I've been working non-stop over some drug trades going on. One's that have been going on for a while underground and ones that have gotten good people killed. I haven't had the time to focus on us even though our fight has been in my head all week and I've been shitting myself over talking about it because I don't want to lose you! I couldn't imagine life without you, Y/N and I feel like an ass for treating you how I did last time we spoke! But I haven't been able to tell you that because access to my phone has been slim, and I couldn't-,"
"Hanta?" You stood up gingerly, only speaking up due to the change of Hanta's aura. He had started curt and sharp but slowly tumbled into a more emotional demeanour. The more personal his small speech grew the more it started to affect him, probably the impact of his own thoughts taking their toll. There was even a voice crack at some point, one you'd never heard before. Hanta took a deep breath, bracing himself to speak again.
"It sounds like a lame excuse but it's the truth. I didn't want to say it. But I can't lie to you," He continued. "It's cases like this that have kept me from wanting to go public. B-Because if those people were to figure out who you are because of me...," There was a stifled shake of a breath, Hanta's voice quietening in fear just at the thought. "I wouldn't be able to forgive myself,"
You were speechless. So speechless you weren't even mad anymore. He was finally... finally being vulnerable with you and that seemed to be enough for you to erase all your grudges. Sure, work wasn't an excuse for everything. But in a circumstance like this one - with the job that Hanta lead, you could understand his reasons and in spite of your worry you knew the rules. No mobiles on operations. And finally, he was confiding to you about why he struggled with the thought of announcing your relationship. So in a very reluctant manoeuvre, you plucked up the courage to walk up behind him and wrap your arms around Hanta in a sorrowful hug. Hanta tensed up at first, breath running short, but he didn't push you away. A hopeful sign.
"I'm sorry for making it such a big deal when you had other things to think about," You said, pressing your lips to the back of his shoulder blade and giving the surface a peck. You remained there for a good few, adamant seconds before retracting. "And I'm sorry for never looking at it that way... or considering your feelings on the matter,"
"Y/n it's fine... just...," Hanta seized the opportunity to turn around to face you, running a hand through his ebony locks with one hand as his other slithered around you to return the hug. "I'm sorry I made you doubt me... I feel like shit about it and it wasn't my intention at all,"
"No! No! Don't apologise. It's okay, " You brought a hand to fiddle with the string of his hoodie. As much as it wasn't what you wanted, you had to see Hanta's perspective and understand his feelings too. This was a two-person relationship after all and had you known his feelings ran that deep, you wouldn't have pressed the matter as much as you had. "Look, we don't have to announce anything to anyone okay? If it makes you comfortable and happy then I'm willing to remain a mystery a little longer,"
That returned some colour to his face, almost like Hanta feared you would oppose him even still and the situation would grow for the worse. With a small sigh of relief, he finally allowed a smile to press to his lips. A smile you knew all too well and had missed for a while now.
"Thank you for understanding," Hanta exhaled, pausing as his eyes hovered onto you with an ounce of playful intent. "And I guess we could be a little bit less discreet when we go to the cinema together," You smiled faintly, finally satisfied with the decision you had come up with. Better yet, a compromise. The very thing you had wanted to start with... clearly your concluding thoughts had been premature.
"Thank you... it means a lot,"
"Yeah... I love you," Hanta spoke gently, pressing a kiss to your forehead.
"I love you too," You stood on your tiptoes to lightly peck his lips, Hanta humming softly in approval as he returned the gesture. After a few seconds, you pulled back though, feeling a smile on your face as you did. It was enjoyable to kiss his lips again, another thing you had missed greatly in your week-long deprivation of your boyfriend.
"So, how does some hot cocoa sound? I can imagine you were sat on the balcony for a pretty long time," You pulled away from the hug, but kept hold of Hanta's wrist as you tugged him along with you. Hanta shook a fist in grateful triumph, sighing out in bliss at the offer.
"Oh, I thought you'd never ask! Hot cocoa sounds amazing," He smiled, pausing temporarily before adding on. "But are cuddles on the table too?" You glanced back at him, half expecting the request. But there was no way you were going to say no. You shook your head in amusement before answering.
"I think we're both in desperate need of cuddles, so I think so. Yes,"
"Amen to that,"

Elves Reacting To Your Period
Tumblr media
Imladris
Elrond
Elrond is an ellon expert knowledge of healing, humans and had a sibling who chose a mortal life. Let alone making Imladris a haven for all races and walks of life- that were peaceful, of course. So you wouldn’t be the first menstruating human he’s been around. He is completely and utterly supportive yet subtle and discreet knowing that this is a delicate time for you. As well as possibly embarrassing to make a tremendous fuss over it.
Elrond discreetly brings you pain relievers, has soothing teas prepared for you, checks in on you when he has the time available. The Healer in him brings him to fret over you some, and should your pain be severe, he is quick to alleviate it. He’s had thousands of years to assist with such things, and you being his partner, he will more than happily help you. He will also make sure any menstrual products are there at your immediate disposal.
Elrond is very gentle with you, being sure to provide you with the emotional and mental comfort that you might need during the day. Making himself far more available through your period if he can help it, wanting to make sure you have the proper support you need. Saving any physical comforts for later when you two can be alone properly and uninterrupted.
Glorfindel
This warm ball of sunshine isn’t entirely clueless about humans and their menstruation cycles. He has spent little of his time around it or reading about it. While logically he knows you menstruate, it surprises Glorfindel the first time he encounters it with you. Glorfindel is worried he has hurt you somehow or another, even if the placing of blood on your clothes and sheets show that he couldn’t possibly have hurt you.
Glorfindel is quick to try to get you to a healer or a healer to you, wanting to make sure you are in fact okay. Though when you explain to him that partially, you are okay and that the bleeding is normal; he is quick to simmer down. The ease with which you speak of it is what brings him to trust you on it, and he attentively listens to you. Glorfindel also asks you a lot of questions about it, as it is human men he is used to being around, so his knowledge about your reproductive health is not extensive. He is also quick to help you clean up any sheets or clothes that need to be taken care of, or take over gathering the items while you clean and situate yourself.
Glorfindel will do what he can to take some time off during your worst days of menstruation and is unfortunately not exactly tactful about it at first. You will have to tell him if it bothers you, in the event you find it embarrassing, as he has no shame in announcing it. Because he will straightforwardly tell them “Y/N is menstruating I am afraid I am unavailable until further notice.”. Once you tell him, Glorfindel will keep that talk between you, him and the Healers if need be. When he can’t be there with you, he instead sends a healer in to check on you and bring you the things you need.
Erestor
Erestor is extremely knowledgeable and has spent a copious amount of time absorbing everything there is too in the library. Even on healing subjects, no matter how gruesome or unusual they may seem to him. But with dealing with menstruation... Well, that is a completely different story. Erestor won’t make a massive fuss over you being on your period, but he is entirely flustered by what you are going through.
At first he genuinely doesn’t know what to do. He never imagined he would have to deal with a menstruating human. Even when he started courting you. But Erestor is very technical and by the book- literally here. So he does what he thinks anyone should do, and goes to reference his books quietly and away from prying eyes.Erestor is extremely discreet about helping you, keeping the matter very private. Don’t mistake this for him being ashamed of you, he is far from ashamed of your bodily function. Erestor is just a very private ellon.
He places a few orders for a dozen or more every month, for pain relievers to be kept in your shared chambers at all times. Stashed away in your desk drawers too so they are readily available and you or him aren’t having to haul off to the Healing Halls all the time. Quietly he will consult Elrond- the only other elf he will tell about it- if he feels like he isn’t doing enough until he gets the hang of helping you. If your pain and discomfort is severe, Erestor- while one for privacy- will go with you to the Healing Halls and explain the matter to them. Diligently sticking by your side and listening intently for care instructions and how to help you further.
Lindir
Lindir is completely and utterly flustered when he discovers that you are menstruating. It is not that he is doing it to make you feel bad- which only makes him feel worse when he sees his embarrassment is distressing you- it’s that he just doesn’t know what to do. Seeing the blood on the sheets and on your clothes makes him feel faint as are you hurt? But then you explain its your period?
Of course he knows what a period is from what he has overheard when coming to see Elrond in the Healing Halls. But that doesn’t make him any less uncomfortable about it. He is stammers and stutters asking questions and is bright cherry red trying to figure out what to do next. Despite all this fuss he has stirred up, Lindir is really supportive. Just the first few times this is what you will encounter. With him profusely apologizing for embarrassing you or distressing you.
Trying to help somehow, nervously going down to the healers or Elrond for the things you need while you tidy up. Elrond swore the first time he came to him and had to talk to him about it, that he was going to faint over the ordeal. Elrond made him sit an extra ten minutes until he could calm down and send him back to you. On his way back, Lindir sends for someone to fix you your favorite meal and may grab a flower or two as an overly sweet gesture to apologize with the pain reliever in hand. In time, every time you have your period, he gives you a flower with your first meal after he sees how happy it makes you the first time.
Elrohir
While Elrohir is used to being around humans, them being menstruating humans is a completely different subject. As it is, he is already pretty protective over you and your well being, especially since you’re human and considers you to be more fragile. So when you wake up and are bleeding or have bled through your clothes and maybe even on him, worried is a very simple way of putting it. He certainly makes a fuss over it between you both!
While being such a great healer himself, he is ready to give you an exam from head to toe and figure out why and where you are bleeding. When you tell him what your period is, and its purpose, Elrohir’s visibly relieved that no, it is not life threatening. And grateful that no he didn’t sleep through you getting hurt- as he is a heavy sleeper. Though he voices his concerns that you are now physically uncomfortable. But like his father, Elrohir is quick to use his skills in healing to good use to help ease your pains and discomforts. Making and bringing you tonics and pain relievers and anything you need to ease the nuisance of your menstruation.
Elrohir will prefer that you take time off from any work and take time off his own duties to be with you when he’s in Imladris. Like this goes without question and there is no making him change his mind, every single month. Without fail Elrohir takes that week off to be with you. Even if you tell him you will be fine, Elrohir is taking the time off regardless and will absolutely even go as far as to delay his leavings with the Rangers until the time has passed. He’s happy to hold you and kiss all over you and lounge around with you if that makes you feel better. He’ll read softly to you, or comfort you through such tough emotional difficulties, and most definitely not skip over any whims you may have for food.
Elladan
Like Elrohir, he isn’t used to be around menstruating humans at all. Though he is far more laid back compared to his brother. So rather than making a huge fuss about your menstruation, Elladan will ask you seriously if you are okay and carry on as if it were not really a big deal. Making a few light hearted jokes to keep your mood up if he can tell it is negatively affecting you.
Elladan will help you clean things up without question. The sheets are dirty and you’re embarrassed? No big deal, you can’t help it. Elladan just carries on normalizing these instances for you entirely, as he just wants you to be comfortable with him. I headcanon that while Elladan does and can heal, making tonics/pain relievers aren’t his strong suit and he will definitely ask his brother to do so for you.
Elladan is laid back, so if you need anything from him you can most certainly tell him and he will do it without question. You want alone time because you’re furious? No big deal, he will back in an hour or two. You want him all to yourself all day? You’ve got it. It embarrasses you to go to the healing halls for menstruation products? Say no more, Elladan is already halfway down the hall to get it for you.
Bonus:
Tumblr media
Haldir
Haldir is no stranger to blood or humans and their customs and bodily functions. So when you menstruate the first time while together, he completely and totally expected it to happen. It was inevitable, but that doesn’t mean that he knows everything you need. Haldir knows that pain is something that generally seems to be an issue for menstruating humans and is at least prepared for that much.
He asks you what all you need while bringing you a vial of pain reliever he has stored in talan or on his person specifically for you. Telling you not to fuss with anything other than yourself, if it's like a bedroll or comforter you’ve bled over. The ellon knows how to get blood out of fabric and will first handle the list of things you need and then tend to the stained fabric. Haldir will go and fetch the things you need without batting an eyelash, and he just brushes any of the healer's concerns aside.
Even if they offer to help, he just shrugs away their words, knowing you’ll go to them if you need it and that there is no sense and making a big deal over something so normal for you. Haldir will listen to all of your woes about it, comforting you even in his more subtle ways however he can. Holding your hand, rubbing your back, and in private holding you close. Haldir though will just tell you flat out to do something that will help you if he knows you are putting it off or have forgotten. Unperturbed by the conversation or needing to help you when he’s around and not on patrol.

I thought my mind is angst free but le nope, here I am. Hazel, my precious ray of sunshine, may I ask for some angst torture with Sanji and Zoro (not poly, lmao) and fem s/o who hid severe medical condition from them. One day it suddenly gets much worse and Chopper is not available; boys can't do nothing much than watching her fading away in their arms and begging her to not go where they can't follow (ah yes, lotr reference). But happy ending plz, if possible T^T Thank you UwU
Some Angst for Bas! :Hellmo: I tried not to angst it up too much, and they ended up about double as long as I intended. I hope you like them and thank you for your insane patience! Sending you love!
Having an S/O who hides a severe medical condition HC - Sanji, Zoro
2nd person. Female reader. tw: illness, mentions of illness, light angst
Sanji
Tumblr media
Sanji is quite observant. He keeps an eye on his lover, and he knows you better than you sometimes know yourself. So he definitely knows something is up: the visits to chopper, the sudden breaks you need to take in the middle of chores and training. But you never talk about it and he respects your privacy.
No matter how much he wants to help you, no matter how much he really wishes you would open up to him about whatever is going on, he knows that you want to tackle this by yourself.
That does not mean he lets you do everything by yourself all the time. He finds many ways to help you around, disguising it under his gentleman attitude.
He cooks you special dishes that are filled to the brim with all kinds of vitamins and other nutritional elements that will help you keep healthy and strong, even though he has absolutely no idea what part of your health is the one that is stopping you.
He carries everything that might be too heavy for you, not wanting to over stress you. Even if you’re plenty strong, he will just say that it’s a men’s duty to carry his lady’s stuff.
Even when you're training, he will bring refreshments, make sure you take plenty of breaks, draw you a nice bath after and massage any aching muscles if you will allow him.
Sanji is near you when you have the worst episode of your illness you’ve ever had. You feel weak, everything hurting, and you just collapse in the middle of the deck. Sanji would catch you right before you fall, worriedly asking you what you need, but he realizes you’re already unconscious and cannot reply.
Chopper is out with some other crewmates to get supplies, so Sanji is immediately panicking, torn in between leaving you on the ship to go get Chopper as fast as possible and staying with you in hopes the others will return soon. He eventually settles for the first, deciding that your chances are best when Chopper is involved.
He picks you up and carries you to your bed so at least you’re in a comfortable spot, but when he turns to leave, there’s a soft tug at his sleeve and he can hear you very faintly whispering to stay. Your eyes are barely open and you’re wincing with every little sound and movement around you. He kneels down next to the bed, tears now falling freely as he begs you to stay with him and not to give up. Chopper will be there soon.
You have fallen unconscious again when Chopper returns. Sanji races outside the moment he hears them arrive and drags Chopper over to the room, explaining as quickly as he can. He insists on staying with you as Chopper looks after you.
Luckily, Chopper is already aware of your situation, and he’s able to help you swiftly.
You wake up not that much later, still in loads of pain, Sanji holding your hand as tight as he can without adding to the pain.
“Please y/n…. let me help next time”
Zoro
Tumblr media
Zoro notices something is off rather fast… but much like Sanji, he is not one to pry. You tell him you’re fine, he will believe you.. up until a certain point that is.
For the most time, you can just dismiss him by telling him there is nothing seriously wrong, trying not to worry him, and assure him that you can handle it. After all, Zoro won’t needlessly hurt your pride by being overbearing or smothering you when it’s unnecessary.
He’s still picking up on some cues. Just because Zoro is pretty routine-oriënted, he will notice it when things are out of place or not going like they should. On days where he notices you’re struggling, he will pull you with him for an extra nap, bother Sanji for some extra healthy food… the small things that let you know that he cares, he just doesn’t want you to be bothered or feel bad that he’s helping.
He’s training when he hears a loud crash, and even though it’s not that rare for things to fall and break on the ship, he has to do a double take, seeing as the only ones on the ship are you, Usopp and him. The latter usually just spends time tinkering away, and wasn’t supposed to emerge from his room until an emergency happened or the others returned. Weights are swiftly dropped as he shouts down from the crow’s nest.
“Y/n? Everything all right there?”
When there is no response, he rushes to where you are supposed to be. He knows you’re not one to joke, especially since you very well know how overbearing he can get when there’s serious danger involved.
He finds you on the floor, a little scrape bleeding from the fall, but otherwise you seem unharmed.
He almost lets out a sigh in relief when he notices tears silently streaming over your face. Your expression is contorted, laced with pain and he feels his heart sink all the way into his shoes when he rushes over, easily picking you up and cradling you, his actions a little more rough than intended, only because he just wants to make sure you’re helped as soon as possible.
You let out a yelp as he picks you up. It’s loud, but not as intense as he’s used to from you. You’re visibly weak and he curses himself mentally for not saying anything earlier today or staying with you when he noticed today was another one of your ‘off days’.
“Y/n, what’s wrong? What can I do?”
You open your mouth a couple of times, but find that even talking has become hard, if not excruciating, and you can barely choke out “Chopper”.
Zoro holds you as close as he can without crushing you or causing you any more pain, and yells out to Usopp to hold the fort. He needs to get you to the doctor, ASAP.
His sense of direction is not really helping, but fortunately, the rest of the crew doesn’t take too long to hear of a ‘green haired man frantically looking for his crew while practically running in circles’.
The rest of the crew finds you guys relatively fast, but by then you’re slipping in and out of consciousness. Zoro had been cursing about them getting away, and simultaneously kept talking to you, panic apparent in his voice as your answers are incoherent or altogether absent.
Chopper, as the only one aware of you condition, manages to help you faster than any other doctor would be able to, but you’re going to need some extra medicine and rest for letting it come this far.
Once he gets the ok, Zoro carries you back to the ship, ignoring all your protests. He will see it as his personal responsibility to make sure you rest and get your meds in time.
He kisses your forehead as he puts you down on your bed to rest once you’re back at the ship.
“Sorry y/n, some burdens cannot be carried alone. I will help, even if you don’t want me to.”

—————
For once, the silence of the night was comforting.
“What is this?” Negan whispered in the dark of his cell. His finger looped through the chain around your neck, feeling the shell casing you had attached to it.
You had needed him that night, slipping into his cell after everyone had gone to bed. Negan hadn’t even hesitated to pull you into his arms on his cot, wrapping his long arms around your waist and down your sides. He hadn’t waited any time to press his lips against yours as his hands explored your body that was pressed up against him.
Your hands had moved on their own accord, pulling him towards you to fill that need that was almost an addiction. Now, as you lay beneath the blanket with the cool night air filtering through the small window, Negan looked down at you with love in his eyes.
Your hand found his and played with the makeshift pendant as well. “Daryl found it,” you whispered back. “It’s one of mine from the war,” you explained.
“Where did he find it?” Negan asked, furrowing his brow as his fingers caressed the brass beveling.
“The Sanctuary,” you said, letting your eyes close as his hand moved from your necklace to your neck. “I guess I made my mark there more than I thought.”
“You definitely made an impression,” Negan said as he leaned down and pressed his lips against your pulse point, letting his teeth graze against the sensitive skin of your neck, but you had caught a double-meaning in his words.
“What do you mean?” you asked, pushing him back.
“What?” Negan asked, looking at you with heavy eyes.
“Why did you say that like you knew me before all of...this?” you asked. “Did I miss our introduction or something?” Negan was silent for a moment before he nodded.
“I... I knew who you were the whole time my people were fighting yours,” he admitted. “I noticed you that first night in the clearin’. You were so...resilient even though you were out of it for most of it. I could tell by the way you responded to everything that you weren’t someone to fuck with. Then, I began to notice you later when I would visit Alexandria and then Jadis mentioned something.”
“Jadis?” you asked, confused.
“She knew you, right?”
“Briefly,” you said. You had been with Rick when the group had met the eccentric and odd woman. You didn’t think you had left that much of an impression on her. “I didn’t know her that well.”
“Well, she knew you,” Negan confirmed. “When she grabbed me after Rick tried to take me out, she told me that you were going to be the one to kill me if she didn’t do it. Not Rick, you.”
“I don’t understand,” you said.
“Jadis saw something in you, I guess,” he said, his hand reaching down to rub at your hip.
“She saw a killer.”
“I don’t know, but it didn’t matter because I had already had you in my sights. When you first came to see me in this cell, I pretended like I didn’t know who you were, but the truth is, I’ve always known.”
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Call me old fashioned, but I wanted to get to know you the regular way. You seemed to want to talk to me like I was just another man and not the killer you met all those years ago,” he said. “I didn’t want you to think I was judging you for what you had done in the past.”
“You wanted to know me and not the sniper,” you realized.
“Is that so terrible?” he asked. Looking up at him, you began to think about everything that had happened since you had begun to speak to him. Even further back, you looked at the war and how he had been before his time spent in isolation. There was a part of you that didn’t understand what it all meant, but there was a small bit that did. Perhaps he didn’t change that much, but instead, the man who lay in bed with you had always been there underneath the mask he wore.
It only took someone to love him to peel that layer away.
“No,” you answered, “it’s not terrible at all.” Negan gave you a soft smile and then you were pulling him down to you, kissing him firmly as he maneuvered himself to wrap your leg around his waist and together you fell into pure bliss.
------
It was early the next day when you ran into Michonne who was saddling up with Judith at her side.
“What’s this?” you asked, reaching down to rest your hands on Judith’s shoulder. The young girl looked up at you with a toothy grin that you returned.
“A tree went down in Hilltop,” Michonne explained. “Ezekiel called me this morning. The wall is down and Walkers are moving in fast.”
“Is anyone hurt?” you asked, your concern growing.
“A few, but nothing too major,” Michonne said. “The biggest problem is that Alpha’s herd is attacking now that they’re vulnerable and they need help. I’m taking some fighters with me to help, Judith too.”
“What do you need me to do?” you asked.
“Keep an eye on things here,” said Michonne. “Alpha’s Walkers are still showing up and tensions are very heavy right now with Lydia. I’m worried something may happen if people don’t keep calm.”
“I got it, don’t worry,” you said. Michonne then reached out and grabbed your shoulder.
“I know you do,” she said. “I hope you know that I will always trust your judgment, no matter what.” You paused at that and realized that you had actually needed to hear it. Especially from Michonne.
“Thanks, Michonne,” you said. “Tell Enid and the others I said hello, okay?”
“I will,” Michonne said and then you kneeled down to see Judith.
“Take care of your mom, okay? Don’t let her work herself too hard, okay little miss?” Judith smiled at you and offered you her pinky. You hooked it with your own and then pulled her in for a hug, squeezing her tight.
“I’ll take care of her if you take care of him,” Judith whispered in your ear. You pulled back and gave her a wink. She took that as a yes and then you lifted her up into the makeshift carriage.
“I told Daryl that we’ll be available through the radio at Barrington,” Michonne said.
“I’ll keep an ear out,” you promised and then you waved as Michonne led the caravan out, heading off to help your friends in need.
With a sigh, you went in search of Daryl who you knew was either sulking in his room or playing with Dog. Spotting RJ running after the canine, you jogged over to join in on the fun and hopefully get some relief from all the thoughts in your head.
————
Lydia was alone when Negan found her.
On laundry duty for the day, he slipped through the many clotheslines and discovered the teenager who was digging in the dirt. “Hey, you,” he said, smiling down at her.
Lydia looked up at him with a small smile of her own, one that was always either reserved for him, you, or Daryl. “Hi,” she said.
“Why are you hiding out here?” Negan asked, sitting into his hip.
“Who says I’m hiding?” she challenged.
“Me,” he said, kneeling down to her. “What’s going on?”
“Gage and his friends are still being…”
“Assholes?” Negan offered and she nodded. “Shit, kiddo, you can’t let them get to you.”
“Easier said than done,” Lydia said with a sigh.
“You need to tell (Y/N), they’ll shut that down,” he said, but Lydia was shaking her head. “This whole not wanting to cause trouble shit gotta stop, Lydia. (Y/N) doesn’t like disorder and they sure as shit don’t like it when someone they care about is being treated like this.”
“I don’t want to start anything,” she said.
“It’s already started. It started the day these people met the skins,” Negan said and then took a pause before continuing. “You might not know this, but there are plenty of people around here that have been on the ‘wrong side’,” he explained.
“Like who?”
“Well, for one, me, as you well know,” he said. “Then there was Tara, the woman who used to run Hilltop. She wasn’t always on the winning side and yet these people loved her so much. Then there are people like Laura who once worked for me or even Gabriel who I believe turned on Alexandria for a short bit before joining in on the campfire sing-a-long.” Lydia looked at him in confusion at that last one. “Point is, kid, is that these people are some of the most frustratingly forgiving fuckers I have ever met.”
“They haven’t forgiven you,” Lydia said.
“Well, I’m special,” he said with a wink that caused Lydia to laugh. “Seriously, though, you should tell them.”
“Tell ‘em what?” Daryl’s voice came from behind Negan. You were just behind him, trying to keep up. Once Daryl saw Negan approaching Lydia, there wasn’t much you could do to stop him.
“Daryl,” you warned, trying to get in between him and Negan.
“Lydia’s let’s go,” Daryl snapped and Negan sighed, knowing where this was going.
“I’m good,” Lydia argued.
“Now,” Daryl snapped and with a sigh, she got to her feet and stormed away. You tried to stop her with a hand on her arm, but she shrugged you off. You then glared at Daryl who didn’t back down from you.
“She is just trying to fit it,” Negan interjected and you began shaking your head behind Daryl’s back that clearly said don’t antagonize him.
“Well, she ain’t gonna do that if she hangs out with you, is she?” Daryl said.
“Daryl, stop it,” you said, pushing him back.
“Nah, (Y/N),” he said. “I don’t care what’s goin’ on here,” he said gesturing between the two of you, “but I don’t need people associatin’ her with him.”
“That’s not up to you,” you said sternly, keeping yourself between Negan and Daryl. “Lydia lives with me, she’s bonded with Negan. Whether you like it or not, that interaction is gonna happen.” Daryl went to say something else before he huffed and walked away, not giving Negan a second glance.
“(Y/N)…” Negan began.
“Don’t,” you said, keeping your back to him.
“Daryl is too important to you. Don’t piss him off,” Negan said. You finally turned to face him and crossed your arms.
“Daryl and I have been at worse crossroads. Besides, he’s more pissed at Carol right now than you or me. I’ll talk to him,” you promised.
“Just…” Negan trailed off, reaching for you and you let him take your face in his hands. “Don’t push him away. There’s too much history.”
“I won’t,” you promised and he nodded before kissing you quickly. You ran your hand through his hair before following after Daryl and Lydia, eager to diffuse the tension. “Daryl, listen to me,” you said as you caught up to them. Lydia was fuming at him.
“We were just talking,” Lydia was saying as she stalked away from him.
“He ain't your friend,” Daryl argued.
“He gets me, okay? Besides they’re always together!” Lydia said gesturing to you. You went to argue, but couldn’t find the words.
“Just stay away from him, alright?” Daryl said. When Lydia went to retort, she froze looking over both of your shoulders. “What?” he asked and then turned just as you did.
Rage immediately entered your chest. Painted on the door of Michonne’s house were the words, “Silence the Whisperers”. You had no doubt that a similar message would be waiting for you at home as well.
----------
Lydia wasn’t speaking to you or Daryl as the day wore on.
You kept an eye on her wherever she was, as did Laura and Gabriel when they had her in their sights. You were trying to give the girl space, but you were at a crossroads with her just as you were with Daryl. There was too much tension across the communities. You hadn’t heard from Oceanside in a while, but Hilltop was in trouble. Michonne knew how to handle it, but you had that itch to ride out as well.
However, you knew that leaving now would only give Lydia’s bullies an opportunity to gang up on her further. This was starting to feel as if you were back in the early days of Alexandria when nobody trusted anyone. It was as if you were walking on eggshells, just waiting for the cracks to come.
It was nighttime by the time you dragged yourself home. You had been trying to help Siddiq with Coco while Rosita slept. Dante took over the infirmary for the night so the new father had some time off and you were more than willing to help out with the little one. Besides, it did keep your mind busy.
Walking into your house, you pulled your sword off your hip. “Lydia?” you called, running a hand through your hair. When there was no answer, you paused in the living room. “Lydia!” you called again, but your house remained silent. “Shit,” you swore.
Grabbing your gear, you headed back out into the night, in search of the teen. Nobody was out at this time of night, everyone preferring to stay in the warmth of their homes. Jogging towards Michonne’s house where you knew Daryl was living, the entire building was silent. That is, except for Carol who sat on the stoop, staring into the night.
For the first time in a long time, you couldn’t get a read on the woman. You had been with her since the beginning, watching as she grew from fragile and timid to brave and daunting. Carol was everything that you had wanted to be, especially since she still held onto that caring nature that had made you love her immediately.
However, now you were seeing the other side of Carol that was never all that comforting. When she needed it, the lone wolf side of her came out and it always started with simmering anger. You couldn’t imagine what she was feeling after what Alpha had done to her child, but there was a predatory look in the woman’s eyes that sent chills down your spine. You began to wonder if Alpha had seen it yet and if she had, was she scared?
Carol didn’t even seem to notice you as you passed her and headed towards the cell. However, that door was open as well. Negan must have been just finishing up his work for the day, you figured. You didn’t know what time it was, but all this silence was making you worried.
Just as you were about to head down another street, you noticed Daryl coming out of the house, a frown on his face. “What’s wrong?” he asked as he noticed your stressed expression.
“Is she with you?” you asked as he approached.
“Hmm?”
“Lydia? She wasn’t at home, is she with you?”
“I thought she was with you,” he said with narrowed eyes. You were about to speak when a shout of alarm caught your attention. You and Daryl looked at each other before you took off in the direction of the commotion.
Shouts of pain and the sound of crying came from the laundry area. When you arrived, you were struck by what you saw. Lydia was on the ground and her arms and legs were wrapped around Negan who kneeled over her protectively.
“Negan killed her!” a voice rang out and you turned to where everyone was looking and that's when you saw the body. A woman, someone you recognized as one of Ozzy’s people. She was a part of the highwaymen and now her blood was staining the ground.
“What happened?” you whispered as you faced Negan, but he wasn’t moving from Lydia’s side as his eyes bore into yours.
“He didn’t do anything! No, it wasn't... He didn't do anything!” Lydia cried from the ground, choking on her sobs.
“Get him out of here!” Daryl yelled and when you tried to stop him, he pushed you back, grabbing you by your arm. “I’m trying to diffuse the tension.” Guards rushed at Negan to pull him off of Lydia, but she was resisting, clinging to Negan’s boots.
Eventually, Negan managed to untangle her from his legs and walked willingly from the scene. You were frozen as Daryl took Negan’s spot, trying to soothe her. “He didn’t do anything,” she cried.
“I know, I know,” Daryl whispered to her as he stroked her hair. Lydia’s eyes found yours and you wanted to go to her, but there were too many thoughts going on your head. For months you had been saying that you would choose others over Negan, but now? Now you weren’t sure what the hell you were going to do. “(Y/N),” Daryl said, getting your attention, “get her to Siddiq.”
Nodding, you knelt down and helped Lydia to her feet. She leaned heavily on you as you began to take her towards the infirmary. Behind you, you could hear Daryl’s deep voice barking out orders for the others to disperse, and then you watched as Gabriel began walking towards the meeting hall. It was time for the council to convene.
-------
“Hold that right there,” Siddiq said as he pressed a towel to Lydia’s face. “Easy, now,” he soothed.
You stood next to her, waiting for Daryl to arrive. Lydia looked so small as she curled in on herself on the exam table. With her hair stuck to her neck with sweat and dirt brushed on her clothes, she looked as she did when you had first met her. That image of a frightened girl was burned in your mind as Michonne leveled her sword at her head. Now, that look on Lydia’s face had returned.
“Are you okay?” Siddiq asked you as he wrung out another towel. You nodded, not trusting your voice right now. Feeling a tear roll down your cheek, you flicked it away before Lydia could notice. The last thing she needed was you breaking down as well.
Siddiq went to say something else when Daryl entered the room, his eyes finding Lydia immediately.
“Hey,” he said softly, nodding to Siddiq who left the three of you alone. You and Daryl took a spot on either side of the teen, trying to get her to look at either of you. “I’m sorry this happened to you,” Daryl tried, but she was still quiet. “Lydia?”
“He was so sweaty,” Lydia whispered. “Never liked deodorant. Said it... it made his armpits itchy. So, I got used to it. Sometimes he smelled like garlic and onions.” Daryl looked at you in concern, but you just lightly shrugged. “I miss him,” she finished.
“Who?” you asked.
“My dad,” Lydia said as her voice cracked. “My dad would have protected me.” Your heart felt heavy at that statement and you couldn’t handle seeing her in pain.
“Tell me what happened,” Daryl said. Lydia finally looked up at him and with steel resolve, told the truth.
“Negan saved my life. I would be dead without him,” she said and then reached out and grabbed your hand, her grip like a vice. Lydia looked at you with tears rimming her eyes. “I’m sorry I went out without telling you,” she said, but you were already shaking your head.
“It’s not your fault, Lydia,” you told her, and then she was leaning into your arms, reaching for Daryl as she did so. You and Daryl held onto her as you both tried to wrap your head around what the hell you were going to do.
-----
“Yer stayin’ outside,” Daryl said as you began walking towards the cell.
“Daryl, come on,” you said in a hastened whisper, but he wasn’t up for negotiating. He stopped just before the cell and raised a finger to you.
“Outside,” he whispered so the current inmate couldn’t hear him. “Ya can listen all ya want, but I gotta hear his side without you there. Alright?” You knew he was right.
“Fine,” you responded and then Daryl was jogging down the steps and into the jail. You sat just outside, close enough to hear both of them. You were just hoping that Daryl was going to be able to keep his head.
“How’s the kid?” Negan asked as Daryl approached the bars.
“She’s banged up, but she’s gonna be alright. You know, the people out there are talkin' about puttin' you down, sayin' Rick ain't around to save you no more, maybe they should have done it a long time ago,” Daryl said and you had to fight to stay in your spot.
“If you came here looking for a confession... just keep walking,” Negan said and you could hear him sit up on the cot as the springs groaned. “It was an accident. And for the record, screw her. She was a goddamn asshole beating on a kid. World's better off. But you already know that, don't you?” he said and then sighed.
“You came down here to look me in the eye because you don't know what to do with me,” Negan continued. “Shit, all that time you spent fantasizing about my death, all that time you actually tried to kill me, and now look at you. You're not so sure.”
“Shut up,” you whispered under your breath. Antagonizing Daryl right now was not a smart play. Daryl, however, wasn’t in the mood to be screwed with.
“You listen to me real close. You and I ain't never been in a room before, not toe to toe. And there ain't nobody to save you right now,” Daryl threatened and Negan was silent for a moment before answering.
“Isn’t there?” Negan challenged. “Because from where I’m standing, Daryl. I don’t think your bestie would be too happy if I got the noose.”
“Don’t,” Daryl said.
“Don’t what? Tell the truth? Cause if I’m being damn honest and we both sure as shit know that I always am, (Y/N) seems to be the only thing keeping you from usin’ that fancy bow of yours on me. Isn’t that right?”
“I ain’t here to talk about them,” Daryl said.
“Good cause they got nothin’ to do with what happened tonight,” Negan said. “Hell, the only person that mattered was that scared girl.”
“Why help her? Why help Lydia? You ain’t no hero.”
"No, I'm not. I'm a sucker. See, I started believing in your way of life, your moral code. Hell, you even gave me a little taste of freedom, just so you could yank it away when I actually did the right thing. You gotta admit, that is pretty messed up. And we both know I appreciate some messed-up shit. So, now it’s up to you, what are you gonna do about it, Daryl?”
“You’re gonna get a chance to tell your side,” Daryl said as he walked from the room.
“Who’s the sucker now,” Negan said as he lay back down on the cot. Daryl locked up behind him and then he was pulling you up by your arm and dragging you away from the cell.
“Daryl,” you said, pulling away from him. He didn’t stop until he was far enough away from the cell.
“What’s his angle?” Daryl asked.
“Are you fucking kidding me?” you asked, your brows raised. “He saves a goddamn kid and you think there’s an angle?”
“With him, there always is,” Daryl argued.
“Maybe with the old Negan, but what does he have to gain by doing it now?”
“You!” Daryl shot back.
“I’m already his, he has nothing to prove to me! Why don’t you get that?”
“I’m trying!” Daryl shouted back. You stopped and looked at him, really looked, and what you saw made you take a step back.
“You were never okay with any of this,” you realized. “All that bullshit in the barn was just that.”
“I just need time,” Daryl said. “You can’t expect me to be all goddamn accepting of you and him.”
“I never asked you to be accepting! As you said then, I’m a grown-ass adult, I don’t need my family’s permission. You told me to not keep any more fucking secrets from you and I haven’t. What else do you want me to do?” you were fuming as you yelled at him. Daryl just shook his head.
“I don’t know,” he admitted. “I don’t know.” Scoffing, you turned to head towards the meeting hall.
“Well, let me know when you figure it out.”
-------
Nobody told you to leave as you sat in on the council meeting.
Regardless of your relationship with Negan, with Michonne away, you were now in charge of security and this did concern you. Gabriel was talking with Gage and Alfred as you leaned against the wall by the fire, trying to get a read on them.
“Lydia lured you there?” Gabriel asked.
“Yeah,” Gage said, nodding his head vigorously. “You saw what she did with the squirrel. She's psycho.” Confused, you glanced at Aaron who leaned back to whisper to you.
“Lydia brought a squirrel to lunch and ate it raw next to them,” Aaron whispered to you and you sighed deeply.
“Of course she did,” you swore, returning to your position.
“And Negan was with her,” Alfred added quickly. The problem was, you didn’t know if that part was a lie. You had no idea where Negan was before you found him protecting Lydia.
“If you thought Lydia was crazy, why'd you agree to meet her back there in the dark?” Gabriel inquired. Alfred stuttered, but Gage was ready with an answer. As always.
“Hey, we're the ones who were attacked here!” Gage shouted.
“But she's the one laying in the infirmary,”
“And our friend is in a grave.” You had heard enough and it seemed that Gabriel had as well. He dismissed them with a wave of his hand and they left quickly. As Gage left, he locked eyes with you and you stared him down. He practically sprinted after Alfred at your look.
Once it was just the leaders again, Aaron began. “I get why people might think Negan's been redeemed. I've... I've wondered it myself,” he said. “He saved my life when I was blinded. Whether that was for personal gain or not, he still did it.” Aaron then looked at you before continuing. “I’ve also seen... and heard things that have led me to believe he actually feels remorse for what he’s done.”
“We’re not here to look at his moral compass, Aaron,” Gabriel reminded him.
“Maybe we need to,” he argued. “However, with everything that he’s done, maybe something is broken in him.” You slumped into a seat across from the main table, rubbing at your temples.
“Yes, but killing him now over this undermines the civilization that we have built,” Siddiq added.
“This civilization was formed on blood, Siddiq,” Laura reminded him.
“That doesn’t mean it has to stay that way,” the doctor countered. “I know how we all feel about him and I do mean all of us,” Siddiq said, looking at you, “but that doesn’t mean we become executioners.”
“Wouldn’t be the first time,” you added and Aaron knew you were talking about Gregory.
“That was different,” Gabriel said, knowing where your head was at as well.
“Not really,” you said.
“Look, the council wasn't made for this, deciding on a man's life in the dead of night because people are carrying pitchforks and torches,” Gabriel said, rubbing at his brow.
Suddenly, Daryl came into the room. He glanced at you quickly before turning his attention on the council.
"If you can't make a decision, the people out there are gonna make one for you,” he said and everyone knew he was right.
“What'd Michonne say?” Gabriel asked.
“She wants me to be her vote. Lydia said Negan saved her, so he saved her. I'm a ‘no’,” Daryl said and you weren’t even surprised that she relegated her vote to Daryl. You weren’t getting a vote this time when it came to Negan’s fate.
“So we're tied,” Aaron said. “Gabriel, where do you stand?”
Everyone looked to the Father who just stood from his seat. “I'm gonna take the night to clear my head and consider my vote,” Gabriel said, grabbing his hat. “I suggest you all do the same.”
As you got up to leave, Daryl got in your path.
“Move,” you said, not wanting to do this right now.
“I’m sorry,” he said, making you pause. “I shouldn’t have yelled at you like that.”
“No, you shouldn’t have,” you agreed. “I am not going to apologize for loving him, Daryl.”
“I know,” he said with a sigh. “I guess I hadn’t realized you were actually that serious about him.”
“I am,” you said, crossing your arms, “and I don’t have to justify my feelings to you or anyone.” Daryl nodded, dropping his head. You weren’t in the mood to play best friend right now. He didn’t need to be comforted after he had yelled at you in the street.
“Are we gonna be okay?” he asked, looking up at you through his hair.
“I’ll get over it,” you said.
“That’s not what I meant,” he said.
“I know,” you said and then changed the subject. “What did Michonne actually say?” Daryl sighed as he leaned against the main table.
“She thinks that Alpha won’t attack if we have Lydia with us,” he said. “She wants us to make sure that Lydia stays.”
“Great, more pressure to put on her,” you said.
“I don’t think that’s what Michonne meant,” Daryl said.
“Doesn’t matter. She’s been through enough already. We can’t put that on her now. Especially not after tonight.”
“I know,” he said. You were quiet for a moment before nodding and turning to leave. “(Y/N),” he said, stopping you, “you can’t go and see him.”
“Daryl...”
“This isn’t about what I think about him. When Gabe talks to him, he can’t have your opinions goin’ on inside his head. Just... just give ‘em the night.” You paused in the doorway and then turned back.
“Fine, but I’m not going far.”
-------
You had ended up sleeping at the Grimes house with Lydia by your side. She didn’t want to be too far from you or Daryl and so a compromise was made.
Waking up in the morning, the sun was streaming in through the windows of the house, illuminating the sleeping teen on the couch next to you. You hadn’t slept that well, worried about what Gabriel was going to decide.
While he and Negan had formed some sort of bond, Gabriel was always thinking about the bigger picture. You were only hoping that he was including Negan in all of that.
Just as you were about to wake Lydia, a loud banging echoed throughout the house. Lydia was startled awake as Daryl came walking into the room half-asleep.
Getting up, you joined him at the front door. “What?” Daryl growled as he pulled open the door to see a very distraught Gabriel.
“He’s gone,” Gabriel said trying to catch his breath. Gabriel then spotted you behind Daryl and he just shook his head. “Negan’s gone.”
“(Y/N),” Daryl said, looking back at you, but his words weren’t resonating. Nothing was. “(Y/N)!” Finally looking at him, you just began shaking your head.
“No,” you gasped. “He’s not, he wouldn’t...”
“The keys were stolen,” Gabriel said. “Someone let him out and based on the look on your face, it wasn’t you.”
“Of course it wasn’t,” Daryl said as he moved forward to grab you by the shoulders. “Look at me,” he said.
“I... I can’t,” you said and then he was pulling you into his arms, trying to keep you on your feet. “Not again.”

< Chapter 1 | Chapter 2, Part 1 |
“How many children do you want?” You ask, getting comfortable under layers of soft blankets.
Tobirama glances at you, incredulous. You see his ears get red. “We do not have to discuss this right now. Do not mind what the people are saying.”
You smile in secret as Tobirama slides into the bed next to you. He is always so thoughtful, even if he sounds insulting doing it. He knows that you felt hurt by what the kunoichis of the village have been saying to you, and they have been suggesting such things for a while now. This is him trying to reassure you that there is no rush.
“Well, I do know I want to have children with you,” you say with a yawn. “Let’s talk about it some more later. Like you have said.”
Your eyes feel heavy and they flit close, leaving Tobirama with the silence. He glances at you, and tries to sleep as well, but it continues to evade him. He lies there with his many thoughts, and he reckons he will have to entertain them throughout the night.
When they were kids, Hashirama had told Tobirama that when he was born, their clan thought that he wasn’t going to make it at all. Born an albino, an occurrence in the Senju that has never happened before, Tobirama was a small thing, and the fragile purple and blue veins under his very pale skin were apparent, as if his skin would fold like paper. Hashirama said that out of all their brothers, he held Tobirama the most, because that was the only thing he thought he could do for him.
But Tobirama continued to live, to breathe and to cry like a normal baby.
It was a bloody time to raise children, especially children who may not even live more than a decade. His future back then was bleak and he wasn’t even sure if could even live long enough to make his brother’s dream come true, but here he is, grown up and thinking about starting his own family.
Peace was a prize paid by many lives, including their very own younger brothers. How Kawarama and Itama would have loved to grow up in a place like Konoha.
Even if peace is a little scarce these days, with the brewing tensions with the other shinobi villages after Madara’s defection, peace can still be preserved. Especially now, when there are more children surviving past ten years.
When you mentioned that you wanted to start a family with him, Tobirama started to plan ahead in that nervous panicked way he does. Despite being busy throughout the day with his duties, his mind keeps drifting to the steps he may have to take to build a family with you. Even if it’s just a possibility. Even if it will not happen, but just in case it does . He cannot have himself bumbling about like a fool. He wants to be prepared. For anything.
He blinks at the ceiling, both unaware and aware of the time passing, and then he glances at you, still sleeping.
He thinks about how much he has changed. He never thought about having children of his own, he wasn’t even sure if he would even marry in the first place–or marry in accordance to his feelings, but now, things have changed for him. Of course he loves his brother’s children, but the thought of bringing one of his own into this world had never been in his sights before. The thought of holding his own, tiny little child….is daunting. Besides, with the way he was raised, what other parenting methods would he resort to but what he knew? He does not want his own children to go through that.
He refuses to raise his own children in a way that sets them up for death. Their future has got to be better.
 Will he be better?
How many kids will he have? Will he have daughters? Or as many sons as Hashirama?
“Tobirama?”
You wake up, and find Tobirama’s eyes on you. He always watches you when he cannot sleep. Slowly, you bring a hand to his chest.
 “What’s wrong?” You murmur.
He keeps staring, and you smile softly, waiting.
 “Children,” he states.
 “What?” You almost laugh.
Tobirama visibly scowls. “You asked how many children I want to have.”
You narrow your eyes, trying to think. Then, it comes back to you. Oh .
“And your answer is?” Your lips spread to a smile.
Tobirama stares at you, in that clueless expression that you became familiar with. It appears once in a blue moon.
“Does it bother you?” Tobirama quickly interjects to change the subject.
You prop yourself on your elbow and raise an eyebrow. “What bothers me?”
Tobirama flails a hand towards the ceiling helplessly–so uncharacteristic of him. “That people talk about you.”
“Not really,” you reply immediately, not wanting to make him worry about this.
Your husband turns his head to focus on you, his attention solely on your words to come.
“I mean, they are kind of right,” you add sheepishly. “I had no name for myself and my family, while they used to be a big clan, refused to be shinobi anymore. There was no reason why you should look to me as your wife. There was nothing to be gained.”
“Besides,” you voice out quietly. “We’re not getting any younger, especially me.”
Tobirama stares at you like you suddenly grew a second head.
“Tobirama–”
“If we–when we do have children,” Tobirama interrupts, not quite gently, but in that gruff way he does, when he tries to cover up his thrill. “I hope they will have your grace and your kindness.”
You press your body closer to him, and he pulls you over on top of him. “Are you thinking about it?”
 Tobirama guards a small smile.
“Wait, don’t tell me,” you chuckle. “You’ve actually thought about it.” You state it as it is, because you know how Tobirama gets when something is sitting on his mind for a long time.
“Just in case,” Tobirama replies, his hands travelling down your hips. “We aren’t getting any younger.”
You lean forward to catch his lips, and you murmur, “Good news for you, you can still reproduce in your old age. As for me, might as well throw me aside as soon as I’m past my thirties.”
Tobirama frowns, and he pulls you closer. “Never. I’d take you, barren or not.”
You roll your eyes. “How sweet.”
 “I mean it.”
 “How very sweet.”
You lean forward and kiss him on his lips again, but before he can reciprocate, you pull away. “I hope they look like you.”
 Tobirama hums. “Debatable.”
“You know you’re actually funny when you try,” you comment playfully, and with that, Tobirama flips the two of you on your back.
“Three or four children will suffice,” Tobirama finally gives you an answer.
You frown. “Are you seriously making another genin team? Out of our own theoretical children?”
Tobirama smirks and pushes his knee against your thigh to spread your legs apart. “Let’s start now.”
You roll your eyes. “Not even going to ask me, huh? So typical of you.” You smirk at him. “I am still taking the birth control remedies that Mito gave me.”
“You talk as if the Senju are impotent.”
“So cocky,” you goad, and you bring a knee up to his groin. “Can you really get me to carry your child in one go?”
Tobirama’s eyes narrow dangerously. “Is that a challenge?”
Tobirama leans down and he presses his body into yours, and every inch of your skin in contact with his sets your skin ablaze. He kisses you fiercely, and you return his kisses with the same fervor. You hastily tear at his clothes, and he is quick to untie your sleeping gown and push them down to your shoulders.
“Wait, are you absolutely sure?” You ask him and you push him back, suddenly incredulous. “I thought you’d want to talk about it some more.”
Tobirama raises an eyebrow. “Since when did I ever act on impulse?”
“Well, I mentioned it once, and suddenly you’re eager to impregnate me?”
Tobirama’s expression softens and you grow more bewildered. He takes your leg, and plants a kiss on the side of your knee. “We have many chances to get it right.”
“But don’t you want to make preparations? You’re a very busy man, and don’t you have to, like, consult with your family or doctors, or buy baby things…?” You trail off, realizing that this is Senju Tobirama you are talking to.
Senju Tobirama, your husband, who is probably taking care of all your worries even while the two of you copulate to your satisfaction. Who probably will continue to make many more arrangements as time goes on.
“Bastard,” you almost spit out of spite.
Tobirama places his hands on your hips and roughly pulls you closer to his waist. Your back lifts off the bed, and the edge of your yukata rides up your thigh, exposing more skin. His eyes hungrily rove from your exposed shoulders and thighs, and you shiver in anticipation. Love-making with Tobirama is never dull, and it is always intense and particular with his own brand of tenderness, in which he shows you how passionate he truly is. The bedroom is the only witness to this, besides you.
“Is that what we’re going to do now? Call each other names?” Tobirama asks, his voice dropping to a lower tone that sounds akin to a growl.
“You can do anything you want to me,” you murmur, and you peek at him meekly to gauge his reaction. “You can even be mean about it.”
 “Don’t be coy,” Tobirama orders.
“Or what ?” You smile, knowing that you are slowly riling him up. “I’ll regret it? You’ll make me regret it?”
Tobirama suddenly tears your yukata apart, and now, you are stark naked under him. “Or I’ll make you beg for it.”
Your body flushes, and you let out a shaky sigh. The ball may be in his court, but it is still favorable to you.
"Show me how you'll do it," you whisper.
Tobirama stares at you, seeming like he is contemplating, when suddenly, he grabs your throat and squeezes the sides of your neck. He leans over you, covering your body with his own and he plants a violent kiss on your lips that leaves you dizzy.
You let out a moan, but he swallows it, his tongue swirling against yours. He turns his head to deepen the kiss, and your eyes snap open as he devours you. Tobirama does not show any sign of easing up, and you can only gasp as his hand travels down your stomach, and dives in between your legs. He presses his fingers against your cunt, and he starts to grind them purposefully, and you sense yourself getting wetter, and your walls clenching from the anticipation.
Tobirama’s hand eases on your neck, and he watches your face as he brings you to the edge, rubbing and pressing against your clit, and when your breathy moans start to accelerate, he stops, and he leaves you gasping, your nerves completely alight with a blinding white fire. You whine, and you close your eyes as your body trembles for more.
You reach down in between your legs, wanting to finish, but Tobirama grasps your wrist and pins them to the side.
“Eager, are we?” You can hear the smirk in Tobirama’s voice.
You peek at Tobirama, and you run your eyes from his chest and his torso, and to his red and angry erection.
“Aren’t you?” You whisper, your voice catching in your throat.
“I have some patience,” Tobirama runs a hand on the side of your thigh, and squeezes your ass.
His rough hand on your skin makes you whimper, and even more so as he leans down and puts his mouth on your breast to suckle your nipple. His tongue laps on it, and around it, flicking the aroused bud until you are arching up to his hips to find some relief. His other hand kneads your other breast, his fingers pinching and twisting your nipple.
You squirm underneath him, unable to bear it any longer, but a stubborn part of you that is in this game will not let you beg. His teeth graze against your nipple and a shiver runs down your spine. Every part of you that he touches becomes sensitive and pliable for him.
Finally, Tobirama lets up and he plants a kiss on your swollen lips. It is unexpectedly gentle, and you melt against him, and this time you consider saying please.
You shoot your husband a glare filled with lust and your hand travels to his cock, and you begin to pump it, your hand twisting the shaft and teasing the head. You hear Tobirama stifle a gasp, and you keep going, feeling it harden even more. Suddenly, Tobirama grabs your hand to stop you and his body twitches and he turns red.
He starts to breathe harshly, and you bite down a smile.
 “Please?” You say to him.
Tobirama rolls his eyes, and you let out a breathy laugh. “Who am I to say no?”
Tobirama’s hand stills your hips, while the other guides his erection into your entrance. He eases in, slowly, shallowly thrusting with the head of his cock. He places his hands on your hips to massage and make you relax, and then he guides the two of you into a slow rhythm that continues to build a searing heat that spreads throughout your body.
Tobirama’s pace picks up, and he leans back a little to drive himself deeper into you. You accommodate him by arching up a little, but the position proves to be unsatisfying. You want more. You thrust back voraciously just as he pulls away, and you use your thighs to flip the two of you on his back.
You smile languorously, and you plant your hands on his chest, and begin to grind your hips down. You take all of him rapaciously, and your hips stutter as they continue to chase a climax that is beginning to take ahold of you. Tobirama thrusts upwards as you come down, never giving up much control, and you throw your head back and let out a strangled scream as he continues to fuck you from below.
A pleasurable shudder runs through you, and you lean forward to give Tobirama an open-mouthed kiss. His hands go to your waist to hold you there, and then, he sits up and slams you down on your back. The two of you end up at the corner of the bed, and Tobirama’s hips slam into you with more zeal, and you start to cry out uncontrollably. Tears flow down from the corners of your eyes, and you grab onto Tobirama’s back and run your nails down his shoulders.
Tobirama places a leg on his shoulder, and he fucks you even more relentlessly. Somewhere in the background, you hear something snap and creak, but you are lost in the throes of passion, and your focus is only on your husband, whose cock is pulsating inside your tightening walls. He covers your body with his, and holds your hand above your head. You feel his cool chakra descend into your veins, and the feeling soothes and riles you up even more. You roll your hips back into him as he continues to ram himself deeper.
Suddenly, the corner of the bed gives, and the two of you fall to the floor, along with the sheets and the mattress. Tobirama rolls you to your back, not caring if the walls of this house are next to cave in. You seize and let out a strangled scream as a white, blinding light explodes beneath your eyelids and you mewl as he keeps going, this time, to reach his climax.
Finally, his hips stutter and he pushes in as you feel him come inside of you. His hot seed fills you, and he gives you a few more thrusts before settling in.
You shake underneath him, completely dazed and mind-numbed. You feel his hand on your face, reassuring and tender.
The two of you hiss as Tobirama finally pulls out, and he collapses beside you. Your breaths are loud and harsh, and when they have slowed, Tobirama pulls you onto his body to embrace you. A kiss is planted on your forehead, and you close your eyes, unable to think of anything else but you and your husband, and the prospect of starting a family.
//
You probably only slept for an hour or two when daylight started to flicker in through the small slits of the curtains. Your face is buried into Tobirama’s chest, while your husband lies on his back, staring at the ceiling. You feel kind of sorry towards him for riling him up so much as you are sure he probably did not get enough sleep.
You yawn, and stretch languidly, feeling the soreness settle in. Tobirama glances at you, eyes stark and bright in the dim light of the room.
“Up for more?” Tobirama suddenly brings up and you almost snap your neck to look at him.
“Wait, what?” You gasp as he flips you to your back. “Don’t you have work?”
Tobirama stares at you pointedly, and hooks his arms underneath your shoulders.
“Won’t we break the house if we keep doing this?” You smile suggestively.
Tobirama pauses, and with a passive face, he utters gravely, “Well, I do not want to do that. We’d be homeless, and with a needy child on the way.”
You roll your eyes. “All right, Nidaime, that’s enough. What’s gotten into you? You’re getting ahead of yourself.”
“We’ll go slow this time,” Tobirama plants a kiss on your chin, and you laugh.
“Oh, slow is not your thing, my darling,” you tease, and you kiss him, with as much ardour he gives back to you.
To be continued...

If you're looking for the best dog harness for medium dog 1000, you need a product that can withstand its weight.
It features locking attachment points for extra security and a top handle for extra control.
Puppia Soft Harness

Love Limit: Seven years 2
Harry couldn't keep still, fidgeting in his seat with restless energy bubbling under his skin. He had been like that since he woke this morning, though his parents assured him it was normal to be a bit nervous for his first day of Hogwarts.
Uncle Remus and Uncle Sirius had been amused by the way he kept looking around in search of sunshine hair. They assumed he was overwhelmed by the crowd of parents and students boarding the express when in reality he was just trying to find the love of his life.
Leo had been quick to hold his hand after his Uncle Sirius teased Harry and the four adults melted at the sight, though Harry knows Leo mostly did it mostly to not lose Harry who was still trying to find Malfoy up until the Black stuffed him into a cart.
The train had left Platform nine and three-fourths about half an hour ago, yet he had not been able to calm since then. How could he?
He was finally going to see Malfoy again, after months of their first meeting. It's been nearly seven months but he thought about the other boy for every day that passed, and he spoke to Leo about just as much.
His best friend was close to smothering him with a pillow a mere three weeks ago during another sleepover where Harry had described the way Malfoy sat in the sunlight for the fifth time.
The two had been spending more time with each other as Leo had officially been made his fiance, two weeks after the meeting between the Potters and the Malfoys.
Malfoy's and Nott's engagement was announced in the Daily Prophet a week following that.
As Harry predicted, Leo wasn't that thrilled by their betrothal even if Dad and Uncle Sirius were over the moon about it and spent a full week celebrating. He wasn't dead set on opposing the arrangement, however, seeing as he wound up with someone whose company he didn't mind.
It was also important to remember that both Harry and Leo had always assumed they would be each other's spouses one day anyway so the announcement came to no suprise.
What did come as a surprise was Harry asking for the breaking of the marriage contract.
Leo had warned him he would only agree to their splitting if Harry could guarantee both Malfoy and Nott would do the same, as well as having a new partner set up for Leo right after. Then and only then, would the Black allow him to be a free man.
Harry took no offense because he knew just how damaging the action could be for his friend. Breaking an engagement was not easy and gave plenty of repercussions to the family name and one's personal image as well.
If Leo allowed Harry to damage his public image without having proof of a new engagement right after, the two would be eaten alive by high society and might wound up in debt for breaking the law at age seventeen if they could not be web by then. The fines were a heavy thing to pay especially with the interest rates rising for every year they continued to be single.
The breaking of an engagement without a backup in place could also lead to exile in extreme cases. Charlie Weasley is a good example of this. His ex-fiance, Nymphadora Tonks, had agreed to the appeal of ending their planned marriage right out of Hogwarts.
Since it was Weasley the one to file at age seventeen, with Tonks being only sixteen, he was the one sent into exile. It was fine with him, seeing as the man already planned to go to Romiona to work with dragons anyway but now he could not return as easily to his home country.
He is allowed three visits per year to see his family- Harry suspected it was the Ministry's way of making people see what they had lost. To add salt to a wound as it were but he wouldn't be able to stay longer than three days.
Tonks as the "wounded" party was not punished with exile nor was she charged the fees seeing as she had still been underage when her engagement went up in flames. The fact remained, however, that she was looked down on for her failed betrothal.
She remained single even with the available muggle-borns around which was much more damaging to her public image and people whispered harshly about her in the streets. Harry had overheard more than one witch or wizard tell their children that they "didn't want to end up like that good for nothing Tonks" when they seemed to be a bit too rowdy.
Harry knew Tonks didn't care or minded being an outcast after meeting her during a visit to Uncle Sirius'. She was unapologetically herself and damn what the masses thought.
Leo didn't have the privilege of such freedom as his distant cousin did.
Harry wouldn't feel the fees as much, neither would Leo, as both came from wealthy families but Leo could not afford to take any political hits without good reason.
He is, after all, the son of a werewolf.
Uncle Remus is constantly under watch by the magical CPS who believed he was not fit to have a child, regardless of the epic court battle it took the man and his husband to win the right to blood adopt. The court gave them Leo and they could take him away just as easily.
Then there were the eyes of all the Lords and Ladies watching Leo's every move, waiting for a mistake that they could turn into a weapon because they wanted to hurt the Ancient and Noble House of Black.
This meant they would go as far as demand Uncle Remus be turned over to the Werewolves Containment Unit or remove Leo as the Heir Presumed for the Black lordship.
Leo's Uncle Regulus is the active Lord Black but he and his partner had yet to find a matching Squib child compatible with their magic so this means Leo, as the next youth close to the main line, is the family heir.
After the death of the previous Lord Black- Leo's grandfather Orion- Lord Black had reinstated both Uncle Sirius and Mrs.Tonks to the family line, claiming they would move past the older generation bigotry.
It might have helped his decision that he too married an "unpure" wizard because he fell in love with a half-blood in Hogwarts even when he had already been promised to another. (Lord Black's original fiance died in the war, as a death eater, and he was not mourned. Harry never knew his name but he does know Uncle Sirius suspected the male had been abusive to his brother)
If Lord Black and Sir Snape did not find a child by the time Leo turned fifteen, then his title will be secured and Leo would become the next head of the house.
From what Harry knew, neither Lord Black nor Sir Snape was that eager to have children, seeing as they didn't really want to be parents. Mom once told him it was because Sir Snape lived in the fear he would be like his father while Lord Black worried he would be a copy of his cold indifferent parents if they ever blood adopted.
They only applied for blood adoption every fifth year or so since the law required them to instead of every year as most would-be parents did. Lord Black and Sir Snape just hoped no new child match their magic every time, breathing a sigh of relief when the Healers apologetically informed them no child was compatible.
They had one more year before the law no longer applied to them and the pair counted down each day with eagerness.
They already behaved as if though Leo is heir apparent instead of presumed anyway.
Leo took his responsibilities as Black Heir very seriously. Happy to do his lessons with Lord Black, about running the family estate, the family business, and his political training much to Uncle Sirius' ire. He enjoyed them, especially when he had always been fascinated by his duties. It was more than just the power that came with the seat of Lord Black, to Leo being the Heir was who he is.
For these reasons he had not broken the engagement between him and Harry, and would not allow it to happen until Harry meet his demands.
"Harry, will you please calm down? You're giving me second-hand anxiety" Leo said, snapping the boy from his thoughts on marriage. Across from him, his best friend was peeling oranges. He handed over the one he was working on with a raised brow. "Eat. You'll feel better."
"Aren't you excited Leo? We're going to see Malfoy and Nott again!"
The boy shrugged "I'm more excited to be starting Hogwarts in all honesty"
"Because Nott will be wearing the school uniform there." Harry deadpanned biting into a slice of orange.
Leo gave a wolfish grin. "You get me."
"Why do you find that attractive?"
"I like brains"
Harry didn't understand what one had to do with the other but he didn't push for more information. Leo was weird like that and sometimes it was better to not question his best friend.
Luckily the door open then so he didn't have to reply. Harry's heart leaps up into his throat only for it to fall when he saw a red-head boy stick his head in rather than the elegant blond he associated with Malfoy.
"Can I join you? Everywhere else is full." the redhead asked a bit unsure. Harry glanced at Leo, who was smiling warmly at the newcomer and he knew the answer.
"Yes, that's fine. Come on in" Harry said getting up to offer his seat. He went over the other booth, as Leo automatically shuffled closer to the window, making space for him. When Harry sat their shoulders pressed up against each other's in a comfortable way.
The boy gave them a grateful little smile, shuffling in with an old beat-down trunk and hunched shoulders. He struggled with putting his trunk away but he didn't ask for help so the two didn't offer any because it seemed he like the type who didn't want to be pitied. Harry mentally put him down in a part of his mind to watch out for and make sure was doing okay.
Once done the boy sat down across from them, suddenly looking a bit nervous.
Taking that as a cue the green eye boy gave him a friendly smile. "I'm Harry Potter, by the way, and this is my fiance Leo Black. It's nice to meet you."
The stranger's mouth drop open in shock, his wide blue eyes swinging between the two with obvious awe. It's to be expected, after all, it's not every day one met the rich and famous.
Harry as the Boy-Who-Defended and Leo as the Pressumive Heir was as rich and famous as they come in modern times. Especially if one was a Quidditch fan, seeing as Leo's family has recently bought three of the major professional teams. Most kids their age were Quidditch enthusiasts so seeing the boy who owns the team they adored was a rare sight indeed.
"I-I'm Ron Weasley! Mom calls me Ronald since that's my full name but only she calls me that so don't worry about it. Ron is fine!" Weasley babbled looking to be swallowing his own tongue.
Harry pretends that awkward introduction wanting to give him a chance to keep his dignity. He searches for a way to make him feel more at ease but Leo beats him to the punch.
"Would you care for an orange?" Leo asks holding out the freshly peeled fruit.
"Oh! Um yes, thank you" Weasley seemed to brighten taking the food with a smile. Leo shoots Harry a victorious look, saying with his eyes, I'm taking care of him so you best take a step back.
Not to be outdone, Harry quickly picks up his travel blanket Mom prepared for him. He had noticed Weasleys' clothes were rather thin for the weather, which meant he would appreciate some warmth.
He offered it to Weasley who seemed unable to refuse, as Harry draped it across his lap, making sure to pull the top end over Weasley's shoulders and effectively tucking him in. A rush of glee washed over Harry's chest at the look of gratitude on the other face but before he could bask in it Leo appeared at his side offering the travel pillow Uncle Remus had gotten them.
Wrapping the pillow around Weasley's neck, Leo quickly offered more oranges as well as aiming a charming smile he only used to disarm and enthrall others.
As predicted Weasley's face turns bright red at the sight. "Ummm..."
"Are you comfortable?" Leo asks.
"Yes?"
"Good." Harry nods. "Let us know what else we can do to make this better, alright?"
Weasley glanced helplessly between them then lowered his eyes. Face as red as his hair the boy mumbles. "I'm already engaged..."
"What?"
"I'm gratefully I am! Flattered too, but see my parents already engaged me to the girl who lives near us. Luna Lovegood."
Harry didn't understand but Leo looked started. "We aren't flirting! I swear we just...like taking care of people."
Weasley looked unsure but he eventually dropped it. The three spent some time chatting about everything and nothing, buying some candy from the cart when it came by but he eventually grew tired and fell asleep with his head pillowed on Leo's shoulder.
Harry had been so excited the night before he barely got any sleep so now he was paying for it. When he opened his eyes much later he found Weasley reading through one of the comics of a superhero that Harry brought along- Leo must have lent it to him at one point- but there were also two newcomers.
Nott was telling Leo all about a book series he recently started, while his fiance keeps making doe eyes at him. Harry barely notice however because Malfoy was sitting right across from him seemingly disgusted by whatever Batman had done.
When their eyes met every thought Harry had in his head went right out the window. "Hello again Potter"
Harry had been waiting for this moment. Had a dream of for weeks, had planned what he would say, how he would act, and yet when he opened his mouth the only noise that came out was a choking squeal.
Malfoy looked highly unimpressed and Harry wanted to die. Leo snickered attempting to cover up a full-blown laugh while Weasley didn't even try. Nott merely waited until Leo stop chuckling before launching back into the plot of his book.
Year one was starting off great it seemed.

While she’s rarely out of uniform anymore, she has what’s considered a “tomboy-ish” style.
Personality
Energetic | Playful | Dedicated | Impulsive | Brash
Type: ESFP-A (The Entertainer) Temperament: Sanguine-Choleric Alignment: Chaotic Good
Lively, loud, fun-loving; Amelie takes the role of being the Legion’s resident jokester. Even during dangerous situations, Amma is given to flippant (and most of the time, cringe-worthy) wisecracks and one-liners, staying relaxed and seemingly carefree all the while. She’s shameless flirt, constantly spouting lame pick up lines to anyone she sees as the least bit attractive (although she does very poorly at actually getting a date). Despite her general goofiness, she’s incredibly dedicated to the Legion cause and her fellow Legionnaires, giving her 100% and beyond.
Amma’s happy-go-lucky attitude is for the most part, for the sake of relieving the stress that the life of a hero often brings. Not just for herself, but for her friends as well, however it’ll occasionally blow up in her face. While she might not mean to, she has a habit of coming across as immature and reckless, especially compared to the other founding Legionnaires. Over the years, this had started to shape into a suppressed inferiority complex that when exposed, leads to sporadic and intense clashes with others.
Powers/Advantages
Amelie uses air manipulation as an offset of telekinesis, maneuvering the air in and/or around objects she moves them to her will, including herself, enabling flight without the use of her Legion flight ring. She can also manifest her aerokinesis in strong gusts, whirlwinds, and gales. By controlling air waves, Amelie is capable of sound amplification and negation.
Like all Legionnaires, Amelie owns a Legion flight ring, which enables flight outside of her natural metagene, provides communication between other Legionnaires, can emit light like a flashlight, and protects the wearer from the vacuum of space. The Legionnaire belt works as a cloaking device.
Amelie is unable to create her own atmosphere, she can only use the air that's already available; her powers are rendered useless in a vacuum. They’re also tied a bit closely to her emotions, she has a hard time reeling them in if her emotions get the best of her.
Biography
Amelie was first born to Sinclair and Cornelia Gwin, followed three years later by all male triplets. The Gwins lived a happy existence, making their living off the small but successful restaurant under Sinclair’s name. Amma was an active, sporty girl throughout all of elementary and middle school and from a young age was smitten with the idea of running the restaurant when she was old enough. Her parents were loving and doting of her and her brothers, but she was particularly close to her father, who was known for his jolliness and all around silliness.
Tragedy struck the Gwins when Amma was twelve, her father was caught in the middle of an armed robbery while closing the restaurant. Sinclair was found dead at the scene. The Gwins stumbled at the sudden blow, Cornelia scrambled to not only trying to keep herself from falling apart, but console her children while keeping the business stable. Seeing her mother doing her best to keep everything cohesive, Amma did her best as the eldest of the children to comfort her brothers and help in any way she could in the restaurant.
The incident of her father’s murder molded much of her personality. She loved her father dearly and his death devastated her, but instead of allowing herself the time to grieve she took up Sinclair’s jovial disposition. She forced herself to stay strong for her family, shoving any of her own trauma down where no one could see it, and instead focused on trying to brighten everyone else’s day.
The stress of keeping up her mask of cheeriness eventually came too much not more than a few months after Sinclair’s death. A particularly nasty crying spell came to a crux, alone in her room, Amma felt as if everything was too much and too soon, her feelings erupted. She didn’t realize the roar in her ears wasn’t just her blood rushing, but that her room had been seized by a whirlwind, ripping through posters and hurling around furniture. The noise alerted her mother, who came rushing to her daughter’s side, which proved nearly disastrous. The storm correspond to Amma’s emotions, who was now in a panic, as the wind tore the roof off and sent both Amma and Cornelia sailing through the clouds.
Amma, in what should have been a futile effort, imagined that they’d somehow make it down safely. When the force of the impact never came, the mother and daughter opened their eyes to see they were hovering unharmed over the remains of their house, the triplets staring up at them in awe.
Amma, due to the stress of grief that went unchecked, activated her own metagene.
The Gwins made their home at the restaurant, loyal customers and helpful neighbors contributed in making the place comfortable for them with generous donations. Meanwhile, Amma experimented with her new found abilities, all under the careful eye of her mother. While abilities such as her own was no longer too outside the norm in the 31st century, Amma couldn’t fight the feeling that her powers could perhaps make a difference, instead of having them just thrown under the rug as a quirk.
She developed the habit of dropping by the remaining superhero museums, Superman and the Flash, as they were the first few who came to time with abilities that helped the world. The prospect of being a hero herself was something that called her greatly, but Amma couldn’t think up a way to start. Her chance would appear however, just a little after her thirteenth birthday.
Once again roaming through the Superman Museum, Amma encountered three kids right around her age, huddled far off to the corner of the building. Experience in having three younger brothers who were more often than not up to no good, Amma tried out a new trick she had been practicing. By keeping together the air waves from their voices a longer distance, she was able to carry their conversation to where she was staying, essentially eavesdropping. What she thought was three kids potentially plotting to trash the museum was actually plan on solving the conspiracy behind the threat over billionaire, R.J Brande’s, head.
Amma practically forced herself into the conversation, much to the surprise of the other three. A Braalian with magnetic manipulation, Rokk Krinn, a Titinian telepath, Imra Ardeen and Winathian electrokinetic, Garth Ranzz. Rokk, Imra and Garth were skeptical of Amma, who shoved herself into their plans with no sense of the danger to come. She won them over however, by showing them her own abilities, namely, her flight and the ease of transportation it would bring. And so the four became a rag-tag team of heroes, coming together to save R.J Brande.
Brande was grateful for their quick-thinking and selflessness and in return now helps fund their team of defenders, The Legion of Superheroes.
Amelie goes by Zephyr, a senior Legionnaire, and fights so that the galaxy can be safe from the likes of the Fatal Five and that no one should have to experience her loss.
Notes
Zephyr is a skilled cruiser pilot, since her abilities are void in space, she didn't want rendered useless. Her fighting style bleeds into her piloting, very quick on her reflexes.
Amma prefers to float everywhere rather than have her feet touch the ground, reason being she’s the second shortest member of the Legion and it’s hard to tell when she’s in the air.
One of the few things Amma takes with extreme caution is kitchen duty, she’s taken the title of the Legion’s Head Chef. Other Legionnaires take scheduled shifts helping her set up meals for the day. She’s surprisingly stern when it comes to the kitchen, from food preparation to cleanliness.
She’s notorious for developing inconvenient crushes, such as with a constant thorn in the Legion’s side, Mekt Ranzz, and far beyond her league, the President of United Planets, Winema Wazzo
Amma is well aware of her status as a founder, but dislikes drawing respect out through it. However, she does wish that her fellow founders took her a little more seriously, something that causes friction mostly between Cosmic Boy and herself.
She had originally named herself Gale Girl when the Legion first came to be, but with Imra, Luorno and Tinya’s hero names all ending in “Girl” as well, Amma wanted to stand out. Zephyr looks and sounds cool.
