Jazz Fenton is by far the best older sister I’ve come across in cartoon media and blows pretty much every 2000s-era Disney Channel big sister figure out of the water for the sole reason and sheer fact she actually loves and cares about her younger brother, isn’t self-absorbed, and doesn’t treat him like total fucking trash.

Danny thinks he's done a wonderful job all things considered. His city is safe, no one has died yet, no major injuries, Vlad had screwed off after Danny beat him within an inch of his afterlife (Danny learned that Vlad was a revenant abusing dirty ectoplasm for powers-not a halfa), ect.
Most of his rogues gallery also stopped bothering him once it became clear he was having trouble keeping his increased power in check and was trying hard not to hurt them. Unfortunately there was one who refused to leave him alone. A warrior princess was demanding his hand in marriage as she needed to be married by the summer solstice of next year or the throne would be passed down to her younger sister, who was already married.
It didn't matter how many times he said no, she kept coming back and challenging him for his hand. Each time she came back stronger and with new tactics and weapons to try. He was starting to fear she might actually win one day. That day might be sooner rather than later as her latest scheme was cutting it close.
Deciding that 1. Amity didn't need him anymore if he closed the portals 2. He was probably going to have to leave anyway if he loses and 3. He didn't have a future in this world as Fenton anymore he leads her on a wild goose chase back into the GZ and causes the portals to collapse in on themselves. The princess laughs, thinking he had given up. But no.
Danny put a curse on himself to turn him into a bat for the next year or so, a full month longer than the princess had left to find a spouse. She screams. Appearently she had a phobia of bats, who knew? Anyway he was left alone to fly through the Infinite Realms and find a new home.
He found a new world easily thanks to the natural portals of the IR and crossed though. Immediately being pelted on all sides by freezing cold rain was not what he expected but its what he got as he flew over a sign that proclaimed the city beneath him was called Gotham. The little glowing white bat flew through the night for hours before seeing a fruit bowl laying innocently on a kitchen counter through a window. Whats more it was in some giant manor so the occupants probably wouldn't mind if he ate an orange or two.
Right?
Needless to say a kid around the age of 11 or twelve walked in on him clutching an apple like his life depended on it while furiously munching. The kid looked...excited? He started going on about names and what he would need to care for him. Danny wasn't really listening, he didn't realize how hungry he had been until he started eating. He waited until the kid had looked away to turn himself and his apple invisible. This bothered the kid who looked suspicious but went to look for "the bat" anyway.
Later, while Danny was taking a shower in the kitchen sink to wash off the remains of his meal (I headcanon that Danny is a bit of a neat-freak) some other guy walked in holding an empty coffee mug and wearing eyebags that would put a raccoon to shame. They just stared at eachother for a solid few seconds before Danny started squeeking in rage and covering himself with the washcloth he was using to scrub himself clean. It looked like something out of a cartoon. Tim thought he was hallucinating but why would he hallucinate a glowing white bat with hearts all around it (that part isn't real) taking a shower in the kitchen sink. Was his subconscious trying to tell him something??
The next victim person to spot him was Duke who just stood in his doorway as this glowing white bat rolled an orange down the hallway. He decided this was a problem for the night crew and went to tell them.
Alfred saw a small shock of white fur and heard squeeking. His first thought was 'rat' and he didn't even hesitate. Danny dodged 3 bullets and got the hell out of the kitchen.
The batfam are debating on whether this was a shifter or an meta animal that was experimented on.

Bruce is a halfa. He became one before Dick came into the picture and hides the fact very well, surprisingly. (well, from anyone who isn't Alfred.) He researched extensively about ghosts and talked to every magic user about them to the point they got extremely suspicious that he has a ghost issue. Paired with the fact that some of them get ghost vibes from him, a lot of magic users suspect that he's been possessed (even though they've tried exorcising him multiple times and it didn't do anything.)
When Dani finally ran into Bruce, she'd gotten a hang of spotting disguised ghosts and halfas and started making a game of trying to figure out their obsession. Halfas' were harder to figure out since they didn't have the luxury of focusing solely on their obsessions. At first she thought it could be darkness or bats considering how he seemed to stick to the shadows and he had a thing about naming all his stuff bat-something. Then, she considered maybe his obsession was ghosts after learning that he'd gathered all the information he could on ghosts. She tested if his obsession was tech or information. While she was very nearly convinced that his obsession was information it didn't seem quite right.
Then, she saw him interacting with his family and it clicked. "By the Ancients, your obsession is family."

Maybe dc×dp Jazz×Jason magical ceremony bullshit for soulmate friday?
"Hear-ye-hear-ye!" A glowing green man dressed in what looked like the stereotype for any comedic relief in midevial films called out as he floated above the city of Gotham, his voice projected around the world. "Her Royal Highness, Queen Regent of the Infinite Realm Throne has decided to cast the Ritual of Bindings, to draw her soulmate near in order to give DNA to help the Deaged King who has been injured and needs to be Reborn! Queen Regent Jasmine Nightengale will cast the spell in Three Scores! All those touched by Death may be called!"
Predictiably people freaked, running around screaming. Or talking about it, which was what the Justice League did right after, speaking at the table.
"Look, it's legit," John Constantine said to the others. "I've met Danny, the King, before he became deaged, and he's a good sort so is his sister. If she's calling upon the ritual... well, I honestly think she has no other choice."
"So she's going to force whoever-" Bruce said but John glared at him.
"No she ain't. Rather she'll give them a choice. It would be safer for her spouse to be her soulmate but she could find any random man to sleep with to get the DNA." he told Bruce who nodded grumpily. It appeared all they could do was wait.
After three hours, Bruce got an alert. Jason's tracker went offline. He didn't think of the Queen then, rather became worried about other things.
He should have thought of the Queen.
-0-
Jason found himself in a throne room, and reacted appropriately. He pulled out his gun and pointed it at a guy in armour. "Where the fuck am I?" he demanded.
"You are in the throne room of the Infinite Realms." a feminine voice said from behind. He turned to see a redhead behind him, dressed in a black dress. "I am Queen Regent Jasmine, and you are my soulmate."
"...Oh shit," Jason said, remembering the proclamation. He looked at the woman who looked back nervously. "This is for... the King?"
"My brother Danny is the High King. He was injured by an enemy of his, Plasimus. Vlad, our enemy, was obsessed with our mother. He wanted her but she hated him. Eventually he discovered Danny was transgender, as well as learning that Danny is like himself, what the citizens of the Infinite Realms call a halfa. Half human, half ecto being as they are called." Jasmine said in a tone that became choked as she spoke. "He attempted to claim Danny. I don't know how, he became confusing with calling my brother a son or a consort. I don't know which he meant and I don't want to know." Jasmine swallowed. "He attacked and our parents passed in the attack while Danny became injured. He needs to be Reborn, and I can provide half the DNA. I need another half."
"So... you want this a one off?" Jason asked. "Why not go out and pick up a random?"
"I don't want a one-off. I want a partnership. I want to raise my... my child with a partner. I also want him safe, and calling upon my soulmate will help." Jasmine said. Jason stared at her, wondering what to do.
He had never thought of marriage, or kids. Frankly with his life he didn't think it a reasonable thought. But here was a Queen asking him. His soulmate even.
(The part of him who loved the classics, who snuck smut novels and who had opinions on romance flicks was cooing inside of him, begging for this chance.)
Jason always did like kids...
"Alright so... what do we do?" he asked Jasmine who smiled beautifully. He wanted to put that smile on her more.

DC x DP idea thing #1
Uncle Scarecrow Au
Essentially, in this AU thing, Maddie, and Jonathan Crane are cousins (their moms were sisters) that often see eachother when Maddie's family visits Georgia before contact was cut due to Grandma Marion and Great-Grandma Keeny
Jonathan and Maddie managed to reconnect for a year or two through letters when Maddie started college and Jonny boy is in the middle of getting his doctorate but lost contact after Maddie got busier with studies and Jonathan went to Gotham. They're on good terms with each other and once in a while in recent years, they'd give each other updates (and gifts. Danny and Jazz grew up hearing a bit from/about Jonathan when they were younger but stopped hearing about him around the time when he became the Scarecrow. So, let's just say when Danny's... 6? Ngl, DC timeline is messy and confusing at times)
Maddie and Jack only recently learned that Danny's a halfa, the ghost king at that, and accepts it. They start helping him wrangle up some of the rogue ghosts and throw them back to the GZ when not even a week later, the GIW started swarming Amity Park immediately.
This causes the Fenton Family to escape (though not unscathed) and end up going to Gotham, not just cause Jazz is studying there, or the fact that there's enough ambient ectoplasm energy there to cover up Danny's signature, but because Jack's apparently from there, has connections too, while Maddie knows that Jonathan could help. She's his favorite cousin after all and adores Danny and Jazz from the bits and pieces she sent him about them.
"Madeline," The man in the burlap mask nodded to her.
"Jonathan," she nodded back.
Danny can't help but feel tense and wary as he stares down at the tall figure in front of him. This was Uncle Jonathan? Don't tell him he's as big of a fruitloop as Vlad.
Maddie stares at him before raising an eyebrow, "I see you still aren't taking care of yourself as you should, huh, Jonny?"
He scoffs, southern accent becoming a bit more prominent as he spoke, "like you're anyone to talk about habits, Maddie. Intellect may run in our blood but having normal, sane habits aren't. Don't you remember Great-Grandma Mary?"
The two burst out into some chuckles.
"Glad you're still alive and well, then, cousin," Maddie says, taking the hood of her jumpsuit off along with her goggles.
"Likewise," Jonathan replies, taking his ratty hat and burlap mask off revealing a sharp, gaunt face with a long, hook nose, pale blue eyes, and rusty auburn-colored, bordering brown, hair, "Now, what's this about a government branch coming for little Danny, and how... Sensitive are you to gore and other graphic imagery of sorts?"
"I mean, I already died and have to fight ghosts-..." Danny piped up immediately, only to shut his mouth up just as quickly.
"... Remind me to set up a proper therapy session for you later, child."

DP × DC but it's a tired and burnt out Danny that makes landfall in Gotham, in this AU Danny is a halfa but it is his sister that plays the role he does in Canon and he only got his powers via ectoplasm contamination. He got burnt out acting as his sisters occasionally sidekick and her alibi in regards to their parents, so after he finally graduated from Casper High he opted to find himself while Jazz joined the Justice League.
So here we have a severely overtired and burnt out Daniel Fenton working at a local Lexbucks Coffee Shop when out of the blue he gets involved in the usual Gotham drama that results in a drive-by shooting wherein Danny gets shot. Danny, being a Halfa, gets up despite having been visibly shot in locations that would be fatal to anyone else but for him it's nothing and he goes back to work.
So begins the interest in Gotham's newest criptid; The Undead Barrista.
👀👀👀
(Lmk if you'd like to read this on my A03, and/or a version from his coworkers POV!) Ok so I did a fic!
Length: short boi. Save about 10-15 minutes.
Summary: see ask above. PLUS Danny sasses Gotham's Rogues Gallery into submission and finds out he really wasn't as useless as he felt.
Danny was second; he was the second child. The second smartest child. The second best as dealing with people. The second one to DIE and get superpowers.
At first, it was exciting! Phantom and Wraith, superhero duo of Amity Park! But Jazz- or Wraith, when she was in ghost form- had the ability to make people feel safe. To calm down situations before they ever started.
Danny had the ability to tear enemies to shreds, destroy infrastructure, and scare people.
Even Sam and Tucker agreed, although not in so many words. They didn't need to; after Dan, after they knew what he'd probably become, things really changed. He was watched, less to make sure he was safe, and more to make sure he didn't become Dan.
When he started sympathizing with that Fruitloop, Vlad, he knew something had to change.
So he flew up, up, into Earth's orbit, so he could look at the planet below. He didn't know how long he stayed there, but when he saw the sun set over the Himalayas, he felt something in him... settle, somehow. And he came to the realization he needed to leave.
It wasn't their fault- his sister, Sam, Tucker. He was the worse liar, so their parents suspected him of everything. He dealt with ghosts better than people, so Wraith was more trusted. As they aged, and Wraith looked the same but older and Phantom started looking like Dan- well. It wasn't the people of Amity Park's fault, either. Besieged by monsters, who would want to rely on one?
He got his things and left. He left a note saying he needed a fresh start, and then took off. He didn't leave the name of the city he was moving to. He didn't know.
That was how he became a barista at a Lexbucks in Gotham with a tiny loft apartment. And for the first time since he was 15, he was happy. Really, truly happy. He made friends in an astronomy club, and got together every other Friday withe people to watch old movies.
He was about to start a management program at Lexbucks. He would be 'needed' by Clockwork every Monday for an unknown amount of time (it was hard to tell time when CW paised as needed. Sometimes Monday lasted weeks, if he thought it was warranted.)
Clockwork being Clockwork, that sometimes meant he needed to solve some ghost issue, or fix a paradox, or come over for dinner, or take a vacation. (Was there a portal in his closet? Yes. Yes there was.)
He saw Frostbite once a week too, Gotham being closer to the Far Frozen, and was learning Greek- both ancient and modern- from Pandora.
He was finally going to ask out Eduardo from the bookstore across the street today.
That meant, of course, he was shot right outside his apartment. Danny left for work around 3 AM; his apartment was pretty close to the edge of Crime Alley, he was the store opener and they started serving customers at 4 AM. A match made in hell.
He heard the gunshots before he felt them, and reflexively turned invisible to change into Phantom. The drive by shooting ended as quickly as it began, leaving Danny to curse and change his shirt. Dammit.
Ah well. Gotta love Tuesdays, right?
Next Tuesday was when Condiment Man walked into the Lexbucks. Probably to try and rob it, but it was difficult to understand over all the giggling from his regulars.
"Bring Gotham to-"
"Sir, this is a Lexbucks. Please just order your coffee, tea, other drink, or something to eat."
Condiment Man gaped for a moment. "I- I don't want coffee. I want villainy."
He nodded. "Fair. But this is a Lexbucks. No villainy, just coffee, tea, sodas, food. No evil available except the evil inherent in corporations."
"I. Um. Ok?"
After a moment, Danny cleared his throat. "So about your order?"
"Um. Well. Can I order you to join me in my quest to bring Gotham to its knees?" He asked nervously.
"Kinky." He said, and Condiment Man sputtered. "But no." His calm demeanor changed in the blink of an eye. "Get your hand off the trigger for that mustard right now, or you'll be cleaning every inch of this place with a toothbrush until it sparkles!"
Condiment Man yelped and left. The locals- regulars and newbies- started laughing. He was pretty sure somebody started crying. His tips were glorious.
Maybe Tuesdays weren't so bad after all.
XxXxXx
"I got a hit on Danny!"
Jazz spun around. "Really? You're sure, Tuck?"
"About 50%, the video is pretty grainy. But you tell me somebody else who deescalates villains with sass."
"Where?"
"That's the problem. They were using a VPN. It's somewhere in the US, probably Gotham, Metropolis, or League City- Gotham Rogues get around sometimes."
Jazz's face started to fall. "Tucker, thank you, but- it's been 5 years. Are we sure his face didn't totally change? I mean, remember Vlad's before and after?"
He sighed heavily. "Jazz, we failed him. I failed my best friend. I missed that he was hurting for 3 years before he ran. No matter what that note said, I was probably part of the problem. Give up on him of you want. But I'm gonna keep looking."
God, those notes had been like kicks in the teeth. If it was Vlad, he'd say it was orchestrated. But it was Danny. He very much did not blame them. He didn't want to go. And what was carefully not said, but pieced together when they compared the note left for him, Sam, Jazz, and the elder Fentons was they were the biggest reason he left.
XxXxXx
"I, the Baffler, will bring chaos and confusion to Gotham's streets with your assistance, Undead Coffee Person!"
That was, oddly enough, better than Inviso-Bill. Still. "Hey man, this is a Lexbucks. And I have a name."
He seemed delighted. "Wonderful! What is your villain name?"
"No, no, no villain name. I'm not a villain. Just a barista. My name's Jack. What's your order?"
The baffler seemed. Well. Baffled. "But aren't you going to join me in my life of crime?"
Danny sighed heavily. "Dude. I just wanna pay my bills. Coffee, tea, what do you want?"
"You can pay your bills with crime!"
The Baffler seemed so honestly pleased it was hard to get angry. Just a big guy in a dumb costume, and Ancients he missed his dad. But then he shot the cash register. "See? Crime!"
Danny snarled and, quick as a blink, The Baffler's hamds were frozen to the counter. "You have ice powers?!"
"And you have dumbass powers, you knockoff Riddler. I'm calling the cops."
XxXxXx
"You must be truly desperate to come to me for help," Vlad said with amusement plain on his face.
Sam narrowed her eyes, and Tucker scowled. "Yeah, well, we need untraceable cash, and you're the kind of guy to keep that on hand."
"And why do you need it?"
Sam grit her teeth, but replied, "let's just say if we find what we're looking for, the number of halfas might be back up to 4."
His eyes flashed brightly. "Well, then. How much do you need?"
XxXxXx
"Together, we will bring Gotham into the next ice age!" Mr. Freeze roared.
Danny narrowed his eyes. "Doctor, this is a Lexbucks. What do you want to order?"
"You, too have powers of ice! Together, we can bring Gotham into the cold!"
He sighed. "Ok. So frozen. Small, medium, or large?"
"I- I am ordering destruction, not coffee!"
Danny pointed to the menu. "Do you see destruction on the menu here? No. No, you don't. Your order?"
He gaped. "Chai latte? Mocha cappuccino? You seem like a smoothie kind of guy, want one of those?"
Mr. Freeze cleared his throat. "What kind of smoothies do you have?"
XxXxXx
"Are you seriously going behind my back with Plasmius?"
Wraith stood, arms crossed with a scowl. "Oh back off, you're nowhere near as scary as Phantom. Or even Skulker." He snapped.
Batman cleared his throat. "I'm told you have information about an incredibly dangerous illegal meta in Gotham?"
Sam shook her head. "I wish I could say I couldn't believe this. He's your brother."
Jazz swallowed. "You don't even know for sure if this is Phantom. This could be a legitimate threat."
"Every time I start to wonder why he left, all I have to do is remind myself about-"
"Sam."
"He's our best friend, Tucker! And she just might've gotten him thrown into Arkham, because Batman doesn't believe in rehabilitation!"
And another argument began.
XxXxXx
"I'm so sorry, Jack. I really like you, I do! It's just..." Eduardo trailed off, shaking underneath Danny's jacket.
"It's ok. You didn't sign up for getting kidnapped by the Penguin in a sick job offer."
He smiled a little shakily, and Danny hugged him tightly. "I'll see you around, ok?"
"Thanks, Jack."
Why the hell was he so broken up over a guy who didn't even know his real name?
XxXxXx
Thursday began at the sight of the Joker prowling around. Danny let his jaws drop and released a hiss that made fully grown ghosts back the hell up, following it by the unearthly rattle he learned from Fright Knight.
The Joker backed up. Swallowed. Put on his trademark grin, and stepped back in. Albeit a little further from the front counter. "Now, now, kid, I'm a clown! Kids love clowns, yeah?"
Another hellish hiss echoed from behind the Joker. He paled, then stiffened as a massive blue hand was on his shoulder. "Perhaps this isn't the best place for you."
The Joker laughed shakily. "Hey, pal, I'm-"
Plasmius' glowing eyes flashed, and the Joker's started glowing red. The clown's face fell slack. "This isn't the best place for you."
"This...isn't the...best...place....for me." The Joker slurred.
"Leave." Commanded the vampire ghost.
The Joker staggered out drunkenly. Plasmius turned his attention to the counter. "Can I get a large black coffee? With a shot of espresso, please."
Danny cocked his head and tried not to laugh at Kristen's face when the fruitloop sat next to her. "Sure. Kristen?"
She looked at him, wide-eyed. "He's not going to hurt or overshadow you. Right, Plasmius?"
"Of course," he agreed magnanimously.
Plasmius drank his coffee at the store. He bought a blueberry donut. Gave him a $500 tip. "The number hasn't changed. Call me, and we'll see about moving you before Batman and his friends crash the place."
"I can fly, you know."
"He has multiple jets. And besides, from what I've heard, Wraith is helping him track down the big, scary meta."
"Thanks for the warning, Plasmius. I'll think about it."
The elder halfa nodded and left, phasing through the door.
Jazz was hunting him. Jazz was hunting him. His sister was- it wasn't fair. He left her the entire territory of Amity Park. She had the undivided love and attention of everyone in Amity Park. Inside the roll of $100 bills was a business card.
He pocketed it, and yet another super came in. Plasmius was right. They were hunting him. Red Robin frowned at the menu.
"Hey, do you still have the mint hot chocolate?"
"Yeah," he said quietly. "Small, medium, or large?"
"Large, please." Red Robin waited in silence while his drink was prepared. "So, Jack Walker isn't your real name."
Danny shook his head. "Nah. If you're going to arrest me, might as well just call me Danny."
He observed him carefully, then nodded. "I'll see you around, Jack. Try to keep out of trouble."
XxXxXx
"He isn't a threat!" Tim snapped.
"You deliberately disobeyed me! We agreed not to approach the person who can use mind control!"
"You agreed, B. Wraith, just leave him alone, ok? He just wants to make his coffee and leave every day."
"Is he my brother or not?"
"Does it matter? He left." Tim snapped. "That guy is just trying to make a living. He's not going to hurt anyone who doesn't start trouble."
Jazz embraced both Sam and Tucker, feeling real, true hope for the first time in years. "It's Danny! Guys it's Danny, we can bring him home!"
"None of you are leaving until we can bring him in for questioning."
Jazz's face hardened, then she agreed. That was alright. She had a secret weapon. Two of them, actually.
XxXxXx
"Jack, you've got people asking for you."
Danny groaned.
"Sorry Jack, you're the one who made the rule about people in weird suits with guns."
"Yeah, fair. Thanks."
He stepped out behind the counter, and froze. "Danny?"
He swallowed. Blinked to make sure he was seeing what he thought. "Mom? Dad?"
For the first time in 5 years, he was embraced by his parents. He didn't feel bad about the tears. He couldn't. "Let's go home, baby. Let's go home."
"I can't. I- I'm not..."
"It's ok, Danny. We know now. About Phantom."
"I'm so sorry we made you feel your only recourse was running away."
XxXxXx
He had started to get the idea Jazz might be hunting him in a violent way. The only violent thing was the force of her hug, and the way her nails dug into his shoulder to keep him close.
Danny couldn't quite understand her over the blubbering, but that was fine; he had always been a sympathetic crier. Although the way all of the bats, Constantine, and Superman were shifting awkwardly, trying not to watch them while watching them, was pretty funny. It got worse when Sam kicked Batman in the knee and joined them. Then there was Tucker, and his mom, and- his dad was squeezing them tight enough to pick them up a few inches.
It took a ridiculous amount of time to get them all to stop crying- and Danny included himself. He had a good 5 years of believing he did nothing but harm to his human(ish) family to cry over.
"So just to be clear. You are not a villain."
"Yep. Used to be in the hero game, even."
"And you're not going to start being a villain."
He chuckled. "No, I won't."
"For now, your stay in Gotham is fine, though you should start using your legal name. If you don't like Danny Fenton, you can always legally change it. Can we call on you if we get a ghostly threat closer to home?"
"Absolutely."
"Wait! Danny, you're going home, though, right? With us?" Jazz asked hopefully.
"I'd like to visit," he said quietly, "but Jazz- I scare humans. Pretty badly."
"The ghosts negotiate with you, they listen to you! And people- look, now that Phantom's not there stopping fights by talking to ghosts before they start, or helping the new dead solve their murders- well. Phantom has been missed."
"Jazz, you do all that too. And you calm humans down way better than I ever have, so-"
"Danny," Tucker interrupted, "please, buddy. You don't have to stay, just come for a week. Things are different now. Promise."
And. Well. Even if they were wrong, he missed them. So much. "I can do a week."

Headcannons that carry over to almost every if not every DP au I think of (most if not all of them are DP/DC aus)
Danny and Jazz took dance classes when they were little, and Danny was always a dance prodigy. He can dance flawlessly on pointe and can do any style, though Danny and Jazz's main focus was ballet when they took dance classes. They still know a lot about most dance styles.
Danny and Jazz also took figure skating lessons growing up, but only in winter. They both still practice every time they go ice skating.
Danny is trans.
Danny and Paulina are dance partners (or were dance partners before Danny left Amity Park)
Paulina has dragon powers because of the incident with Dorothea's necklace.
Sam has dragon powers because of that incident as well, but hers are weaker due to less exposure.
Sam also has plant powers because of the thing that happened with Undergrowth.
Paulina and Sam both have dragon instincts because of their dragon powers. This means they are both VERY protective.
Ghost hearing is on the same level as kryptonian hearing. When Danny first became a halfa, everything was too loud for him to understand and sounded like white noise. Danny, Sam, and Tucker all started learning sign language shortly after the accident because of this. If Jazz didn't already know sign language, she quickly noticed that Danny wasn't understanding anything he was hearing and started learning sign language as well.
Ghost speech is not a language. It is a power that allows ghosts to understand and speak any and every language fluently, whether they've heard it before or not. But it's like learning every language with the time and effort it takes to learn 1. The power still needs to be practiced for ghosts to use it well. It's a skill.
Danny knew a few languages even before he died, so it was easier for him to learn ghost speech than it was for other ghosts who have that power.
Dani goes by Ellie because it didn't feel like she had her own name when she went by Dani.
Danny and Ellie both have fangs.
Danny and Ellie need more iron in their diets than any human.
Danny is 4 feet tall and will stay that height forever.
Ellie is at least 6 feet tall when fully grown because her growth wasn't stunted like Danny's.
Jazz is TALL
Danny is touch starved af but REFUSES to ask for affection.
Jazz is touch starved too, but not nearly as much as Danny, and her communication about wanting affection is slightly better than Danny's.
Danny gave Ellie a stuffed raccoon shortly after they met. Ellie named it Travis.
Ellie refuses to say the word "raccoon." They are Trash Pandas and that is what she calls them.
Danny has a giant panda plush that was given to him by 1 or both of his sisters.
Jazz has a stuffed red panda that Danny and Ellie worked together to get for her.
Danny is bisexual.
Sam is a lesbian.
Jazz is either a lesbian, bi with a preference for women, or aroace. (Lesbian in most of the aus I think of.)
John Constantine is Danny and Jazz's pseudo uncle, "Uncle JC," who they weren't allowed to see or talk to anymore after he got into a fight with Jack and Maddie about ghosts when Danny was 12. (This 1 is more specific to dp/dc, but most, if not all, of the dp aus I think of are dp/dc.)
I don't talk about these enough, but these are the headcannons going through my head with every, or almost every, story idea I come up with. I think I've mentioned all of these on discord at some point. I don't post all the story ideas I come up with, but many float in and out of my head and repeatedly come back. Sometimes, a possible story idea will be floating around in my head for weeks, and I won't write anything down or talk about it or post about it, and then eventually I either send it to the discord server to talk about, or post it on tumblr. Usually discord. But I only talk about the ones that I can put into clear enough words to talk about them.

Fourth lot of chapters begins! Thank you for all the interest and likes!
And the time line has caught up to the start of the Mini Adventures!

Chapter 19
Danny fell silent after their recount of everything they had gone through, from when they died, all the to how they became king. They had shared bits and pieces with Dan and compared their live up till the Nasty Burger incident and how Danny’s was different after Dan was sealed away but it had never been in such detail or in one whole sitting. It felt like a weight, they didn’t know they had, had been lifted off their shoulders.
They had a brother, a blood related older sister who understands the feeling of being thrust into a hero role and a brother-in-law had also experienced finding out he was an entirely different race than they had been raised as. Not to mention their niece and now, officially, their daughter.
They had a family, people who understood in ways their friends and Jazz had never been able to do. They new their true heritage, even if half was still missing. They felt more whole than they’d ever felt, even before the accident. All the little odd behaviours they’d has a a child, that the Fentons had basically trained them out of doing, that they were told was wrong. They finally knew why and that they had in fact been normal behaviours for a mer-child.
Looking over to where Rukia and Elle were playing… they were relieved and happy that Elle would be able to embrace all of her instinct from the start. They still found themself holding back or suppressing some instincts, even around others of their kind. Years of being told, trained, to act human were hard to shake off.
****
Clock Work had come to inform them that the claiming ceremony was ready and the family of siblings and nieces made their way to the private room. The ceremony was short and sweet. An exchange of ectoplasm and a sworn oath of familial bond.
They had all been surprised, excluding Clock Work who was acting as the main witness, when Elle was engulfed in a bright light. Once it had faded they were met with a human looking Elle as a three year old.
Clock Work was quick to explain that the ceremony had corrected the unnatural age progression that Vlad had put her through in the pod, as well as the error in her make up that had made her susceptible to destabilisation, even with the Ecto dejecto. She was now a true Halfa. Her memory was still intact but she would now act more her true age.
Danny had scooped Elle up and held her close, they had always had the fear, that she would one day disintegrate and they would not be able to help her. This was one less fear they had to worry about. She was safe and healthy and she will never destabilise again.
****
Dan sighed as he slumped back into his chair. Dan had a strange mix of emotions, he wanted to go after Vlad for what he had done but he was happy to have another niece, there was also the jumbled thought on if Elle could be counted as his as well or if, despite being the same person, their genetics were different.
It was something to look into, for curiosities sake, for all they knew they could actually be brothers… their mother could travel dimensions for fucks sake, it was in the realm of possibility. Did Clock Work know? Who was he kidding, they probably did. Continuing that thought he wondered if they had the same father? Was a different time period also considered a different universe? It that was the case, how did he end up the same in the same environment, with the same people? He new of other Earths, thanks to his time with the JL. They had made no progress in finding their father…
Maybe it was time they asked Clock Work directly. He didn’t have much hope in finding him nor that he would be happy to learn about them, to be honest, unless Clock Work hinted or told them where to look. Considering time, would their father even be alive now? They didn’t have a time frame or any indication of what time period or universe he was from. He didn’t particularly care either way but Danny…He would keep looking for his brother’s sake.
His intrusive thoughts were interrupted by a pat to his leg, looking down he came face-to-face with his youngest niece.
“Hi!” The smile on the three year olds face made him wary. It was to much like Danny’s, when they were up to something, to not be suspicious. Dan knew for a fact he did not smile like that when planning something. Danny had told him many times he had more of a smirk, Danny, and therefore Elle, had a smile that radiated to much innocence that anyone who was not familiar with the little gremlin would never suspect the chaos they had, were causing or will cause in the future.
“Hi… can I help you?” He continued to watch for any hint of what she was up to, as her eyes widened and her smile brightened, his senses prickled further. Danny had caught him off guard, more times than he’d like to admit, with that look. Were her eyes sparkling…?
“Can I call you Uncle Udon too?” Dan stared before slumping further into his chair, in resignation. ‘I’m never going to shake this nickname now.’ His siblings’ laughter and his older niece’s giggles just further cemented the thought.
****
Their older sister and her family stayed with them for a week after the coronation and Dan had informed the JL that both he and Phantom would be off world for the week and had Katana checking in with Japan during the week while Superman had offered to do a few flybys during his free time. Their claimed haunt was relatively problem free but they did suffer natural disasters at certain times of the year. Though they were quick to boot anyone who planned to cause trouble, before it could truly begin.
It had been nice, all the heavy stuff had been felt with on the first day and that left the rest of the week to relax and bond as a family. Rukia and Elle had become fast friends and they Danny, Lucia and Kaito got to know each other more and they had learned more about their Mother and the world their sister lived in. Sharing stories of being teen heroes in worlds that had no other heroes to guid them. Danny was happy.
Once their sister and her family had gone home, Danny and Dan had returned to Japan and their home town, Elle in tow. To say the town was overjoyed was an understatement, they had shown a festival in honour of Yuurei and the the fact that they would continue to prosper for many generations in the future. Elle had had a blast as she played with the town children and are to her hearts content. She loved the fact that she now had a place to, permanently, call home. That night they slept at the Shiro as the festival continued for three days.
****
Things had settled down, after three weeks, and Danny was only now ready to face the box of their mother remains. It was common for some ghosts to have keepsakes of family members, even the mere kept blood pearls, either to remember or as gifts of protection or  proof of bonds. The thing was, usually, it was one or two pieces. A tooth, lock of hair, blood pearl or fur. Not every usable piece, like the Hunters had kept. Now faced with the box full of fins and scales… They didn’t know what to do. Deciding that they could figure it out later, they started organising them, trying not to think about where they had come from. Ells was taking a nap and Dan had come in at some point to help them. They were thankful for the quiet support.
****
Danny was exhausted. It didn’t happen often anymore, due to the power boost being King of The Infinite Realms gave them, but it had been a long two weeks. There had been an intergalactic war that was getting to close to their planetary orbit and almost everyone had gone to investigate and help, in any way they could, to resolve the problem peacefully. Everything had been going well but one side had decided that they still wanted the other planets resources. The JL were then fully dragged into the war. They were finally able to resolve thing with minimal casualties but it had taken its toll on everyone their.
Dan had stayed back so Earth wasn’t left unprotected while most of the heavy hitters were off planet. He had also kept an eye on Elle. Once Danny had returned home, despite their fatigue and heavy body, they had spent some much needed time with Elle. All three of them had gone to the hot spring and messed around as Danny unwound the tension they had built up over the  weeks they had away.
It had been their first large scale fight, they had been involved with, Dan was usually the one to go on these kind of missions but this one had been in space. In Space! Sure they could go anytime they wanted but they also had a pull at their protection obsession. So two vultures one stone.
It didn’t hurt that their partner for this particular mission was Red Robin. They had gotten to know the other hero on a more personal level, though that is rather subjective, they were friends now. Besides, war didn’t allow for deep discussion, as much as movies portray at least. They mainly worked on information gathering, hacking alien tech and espionage, in some cases, in their quest for information. For the first week at least. The second week was filled with fighting and making sure their teammates did join their domain so soon.
Danny sighed as they slipped further into the hot water. They were so relaxed that they didn’t notice a certain three year old sneak up on them.
“Daddy? When can I get a sybling?” To say Danny nearly drowned would be false but they did sink into the water and flounder around in surprised embarrassment, before coming up and sputtering. Dan was laughing in the background.
“Not unless someone manages to clone me! Again!” They cried out in a rush before mumbling. “Or someone actually agrees to marry me.”
****
Danny collapsed onto their bed at Phantom’s keep. The rush of Ectoplasm would help them get back to normal quicker. They snuggled into their pillow and their thoughts drifted to Elle’s question and immediately blushed when Red Robin crossed their mind. Forcing their mind to be quiet, they slipped into sleep. Their dreams were hazy and fragmented and their consciousness remains out of reach for almost to days. Unaware of their sleepy actions.

Little Badger, Big Badger
Vlad’s obsession is family, something he is seriously lacking. To make matters worse his core is already convinced that Daniel is his son, and being away from his son is causing him a lot of emotional turmoil and pain. The more he ignores it the worse he treats Daniel when he sees him again, and the more Daniel distances himself.
But after all that Vlad has said and done, forgiveness is a million miles away... right?
Vlad Masters was many things; a leader, genius, evil mastermind, most powerful halfa in the ghost zone, and Mayor of Amity Park. Other than the occasional hiccups in his life things had gone fairly well. Sure, the accident when he was in his twenties was inconvenient, and his status from human to halfa was a long and painful one but it was far from the only painful thing he had experienced.
Even before the accident things had been… difficult.
His father was determined, undermining and cruel - demanding he be a soldier as he once was or at least be something useful instead of a ‘white collar sleazebag’. His mother was absent most of the time both physically and emotionally and when she was there she was constantly annoyed with anything that had to do with Vlad and his sister.
That’s right - sister.
His sister had been the only light in his life in the gray, a few years younger than him but as bright as a star. After he got infected by ecto-acne he distanced himself from her considerably which hurt his core but was for the best. His sister was… fragile, but fragile in a different way compared to their parents. There wasn’t a bit of aggression, hostility or cruelty to her, a stark contrast to Vlad. A heart of gold and kind hands which healed others instead of hurting them. But she was sensitive and often got too attached to those who only hurt her.
Abusive relationships, cruel partners, and lack of caring for her safety because she wanted to fix the ones she loved often put her in harm's way. Vlad thought that by separating himself he was going to help protect her from him. So shortly after he fully ‘changed’ into the halfa he was now he cut all ties with his wonderful little sister and his awful parents.
His core and obsession suffered at this choice, it was so young and so fragile that it latched onto the last connections he had and the newest connection it formed. Maddie, Jack and Daniel Fenton.
He still despised Jack Fenton for the accident, his calculations, his haste to finish their project, his mistakes had cost him everything but it didn’t change that he still cared about him deep down. Maddie - he knew it was a foolish dream to imagine he could take her from Jack, even when he knew how she felt about him in college, if being married to the bumbling oaf for 20 years wasn’t enough to change her mind he sure as sugar wouldn’t be. Then Daniel… an absolutely amazing child who was like him. He died too young and his core was still new. It needed a connection, a bond, an older core to learn from and Vlad was desperate to be that mentor.
But his years alone made him aggressive, his core and obsessions lashed out when they saw Jack and gained an attachment to Daniel. He messed up and as a result he hurt his chances of forming that bond with Daniel.
It hurt.
Vlad had hurt him.
He had never wanted to do that.
Vlad thought that would be the last of it, that if he couldn’t have Daniel, Maddie or Jack then he would make his own family but that didn’t work. Because part of the whole ‘being dead thing’ also meant biological children were impossible and cloning wasn’t working no matter how hard he tried! So he grew more hostile. More desperate. More afraid.
He became Mayor of Amity Park partially to spite Daniel but to also teach him, both a life lesson about picking powerful enemies and also to keep an eye on the boy in case things got out of hand within the city limits. It was enough - at least for a while. But he could already feel his obsession reaching and crying out for more.
Family.
Family.
Nights made the feelings harder to ignore. Harder to push off. Harder to push though, the constant nagging to check on Daniel and insure that he wasn’t harmed or working too hard was infuriating. Thankfully, on this night it seemed as though fate had plans of its own.
It started with a soft and almost hesitant knock, pulling Vlad’s attention away from his tea which had long since gone cold. He had been glaring at it for hours to try to get the nagging pull of his core to cease, and while it clearly hadn’t worked on the knock would at least provide a small distraction.
Vlad got out of his chair, placing the tea on his coffee table as he walked through the house as the person knocked a second time, this time more confident. It made Vlad raise a brow as he walked to the door and pulled it open with mild annoyance, the scent of rain assaulting his nose and rain immediately splashing into the house as it hit the path outside his door. He hadn’t even noticed the sudden onslaught of precipitation.
He looked down at the person standing in front of him, blinking in surprise as he looked at the familiar teen. Black hair was soaked down, white t-shirt clinging to his painfully thin body, jeans drenched up to the knees, and a type of exhaustion that felt wrong on a face so young. Daniel’s eyes met his for a moment, too blue to be natural and much harder to hide than they had been when they first met. Then his eyes looked down and he rubbed his arm.
“Daniel? What are you doing here? It’s late.” He said, though the time was the least of Vlad's concerns. The last time Daniel and Vlad had been face to face he had been attempting to destroy Danielle (or ‘Elle’ as he heard she had gone by since that day). They were far from on ‘friendly’ terms, yet he was here.
“Can… can we talk?”
Vlad blinked, looking at Daniel in confusion. “Just… talk?”
Daniel nodded, refusing to look at him still. “Yeah...”
Vlad went to tell him to just say what he needed to say then leave but his core seemed to almost beg for him to hug Daniel. Plus, this was a great chance to try to fix things. There might never be a chance like this again.
He couldn’t let it slip through his fingers.
“Very well. Come in and kick off your shoes by the door. I will get you a towel so you’re not getting everything wet.” Vlad said, stepping to the side as Daniel walked into his house, closing the door behind him. He watched as Daniel seemed to hesitate, before starting to pull off his shoes.
Vlad took the chance to walk towards the nearest bathroom, opening the door and simply grabbing the towel from directly off of the towel rack. He carried the towel back to Daniel who continued to stand near the door, as though scared to cross further into the house. Vlad held the towel out to Daniel.
Again, Daniel eyed it interestingly before he took it and started drying off his hair.
“Come, we can sit in the kitchen. I was just about to make myself some fresh tea.” He said, leading Daniel through the house into the kitchen. Once they entered the kitchen Vlad gestured towards the bar and the barstools that were tucked neatly under it. “Have a seat, Daniel.”
“Mhm…” Daniel sat down, glancing around again while Vlad went to the stove, adjusting the kettle and turning on the stove burner.
Vlad then sighed, turning to face Daniel as he leaned against the far counter. “Mind telling me why you’re here…” He looked at the clock in the corner, “Two-twenty-one in the morning?”
Daniel swallowed thickly, seeming to hesitate as he opened his mouth, but then shut it again quickly as he curled up in on himself causing worry to pang at Vlad’s chest.
“Daniel? Did something happen at home?” He asked.
Daniel let out a shaky breath, “N-no. Home… home is fine. I-I just… I-I um… I…” He looked terrified, more fear than Vlad had ever caused this child. Though that was a given considering he was currently fighting back tears on a barstool in his kitchen. Whatever had frightened this child was scarier than Vlad.
Somebody or something had scared his kid.
Vlad hesitated, unsure what to do for a moment before he reached into a cupboard, pulling out a box of cheap sugary sweets. Specifically cosmic brownies. He opened the box, pulling an unopened package out for himself then handing one to Daniel who eyed it confused before looking up at Vlad, blinking the tears from his eyes.
“What’s this?”
“Cosmic brownie. Unfortunately it was something your father got me hooked on in our college days, I have been unable to shake the habit and always keep some in the house as well as in my office.”
Daniel opened it, then took a bite. “Why are you telling me this?”
“Because nobody will ever believe you.” He said, and to his relief he heard a snort of laughter come from the teen.
“Yeah, I guess they wouldn’t. Who would believe that Mayor Masters has cosmic brownies on standby.” Daniel smirked, “You should get one of those ‘in case of emergency break glass’ cases and just put a box of cosmic brownies inside.”
Now it was Vlad's turn to chuckle, “You know, I might have to agree with you. Perhaps I could put one in each room in place of a fire extinguisher.”
Daniel laughed again, a bit harder this time. Though it didn’t last long before he took another bite of his brownie and sighed. “I um… this is going to sound stupid but I had a nightmare.”
“A nightmare?” Vlad questioned leaving the ‘a nightmare bad enough to come to me?’ part of his statement unsaid.
Daniel nodded slowly. “I um… it’s complicated and I don’t know how much I’m able to say but… there was this ghost a few months back and he… he nearly killed Mom, Dad, Jazz, Sam, Tucker and my homeroom teacher, Mr. Lancer.” His voice was quiet, his hands trembling slightly. “I-I say ‘nearly’ killed them but he kinda… h-he would have killed them if it hadn’t been for Clockwork.”
Vlad had never personally met Clockwork but he had heard of the incredibly powerful god of a ghost. He did not show himself to those who he did not want to find him. Vlad had never been able to find him, likely as a result of that ability. Though he knew that if Clockwork interfered then what Daniel had said in the beginning about how much he’d be allowed to say implied there were a lot of complicated ‘time-travel’ aspects to this situation.
“But… a-and I know you might not believe me but… y-you were kinda there too. You helped me. Despite everything that we’ve been through… you willingly helped me because I asked. B-but in my dream… in my dream that ghost won. That ghost won and killed my family and my friends and I realized that… even with all I know, a-all I’ve seen, if that happened…” Vlad saw the tears finally streak down Daniel’s cheeks, dripping onto the counter. “If anything happened to them you would still be the first person I would run to. J-just like tonight.” He sobbed.
Vlad walked over hesitantly, standing next to Daniel as his hands shook.
Daniel had gone to him? He had asked for his help and even with everything bad that had happened - all the bad things Vlad had done to him - he had come running to him. What did this mean? What did this mean? What should he do? What could he do?
“Daniel… I won’t lie to you. I don’t fully understand what you’re talking about but what I do know is that I am happy you’re here.” He said as Daniel looked up at him, almost surprised as tears streamed down his face still.
“Y-you are?”
“Yes. My obsession… is complicated, as is my situation. But I have been neglecting it for many years and as a result it has made me… aggressive, cold and hostile. Such traits that have been turned unfairly to those whom my obsession is drawn to; you and your family. I have done horrible things to you and your family and while you have no reason to forgive me I… I would like to attempt to start over.”
Daniel seemed as though he was still unsure about all of it, so Vlad let out a shaky breath, sitting on the stool next to Daniel, turning him slightly.
“My obsession is Family, Daniel.” He explained as Daniel’s eyes widened.
Talking about an obsession was difficult for ghosts and asking about one was considered incredibly rude, so Vlad could understand why Daniel was confused by the subject. But, Vlad knew if he stopped talking now he wouldn’t finish this conversation, so instead he kept talking and didn’t give Daniel a chance to speak.
“A family, which I do not have and cannot have. My parents have never been particularly nurturing and my sister, well, I was forced to distance myself for her safety after the accident. My core attached to what I knew at the time of the accident; your parents. Then when I met you my core - for lack of a better term - imprinted on you. My obsession for a family now specifically surrounded you because my core was convinced that you were already my family. But the amount of neglect my core has suffered over the years causes some emotional turmoil and as a result I lash out and I have repeatedly hurt you and as a result-”
“-I pulled away further.”
Vlad nodded, “Yes, which as you know makes that pull stronger. Being in the same city as you has helped considerably but… I would still like to fix this. To start fresh. I want to be the kind of man you can run to in an emergency or when you feel unsafe, and while I cannot say I won’t make mistakes in the future I do promise to try to be better.”
Danny sniffled, rubbing his eyes. “I-I think I’d like that. I-I mean… I can’t promise I won’t be a pain in your ass sometimes or cross lines now and then, but I can promise to not be as much of a pain, so long as you stop trying to kill my dad and steal my mom.”
“Very well, though, I cannot promise that ‘forgiving and forgetting’ will be as easy in practice but… for you, my boy, I will try.” Vlad smiled down at Daniel, “Now then… Danny, would you like some tea?”
Danny’s gaze softened, “Tea sounds great. Thanks, Uncle Vlad.”

More than one Monarch (Part 2!)
So part 1 was Giratina, or at least a part of a part. I still have some more, but I want to explore each 'part' a bit before expanding another 'part'. Not that these all have to connect but it could be, nothing is fun when things are ruled harshly. (unless it's a magic system but that's not here or there)
So the next part is...
Hades!
Tumblr media
(picture is not mine) Or at least leaning into that lore? Pandora is in DP already, who says I can't just pick some things to throw into DP (or throw DP into Hades). Plus having this brain rot since Hades 2 had a trailer recently. Could have the two 'princes' hang out together and be menaces together, heckling Zag's dad cause Danny does have the desire to mess with authority. Sassy quips left and right, competitions with Thanatos (more sassy banter), Cujo and Cerberus playing ghost dog fetch. The possibilities!
My original idea for this was Persephone being the 'original halfa', a headcanon of when she was taken to the Underworld she was still alive, but when she ate the pomegranate seed she became half dead, forever becoming a part of the Ghost Zone but since she was a goddess of life she couldn't become 'fully dead'. Literally a Queen of Death and Life, a Goddess of Seasons more or less by causing growth and decay depending on her station. (being in the underworld causes winter, then visiting her mother Demeter so the season would change from winter to summer) She even has a name change to go with her transformation of becoming a Halfa! (That bit is because the being 'Kore' is/could be Persephone, but another theory suggests it's a different entity altogether, but this is my headcanon, not fact, I'm cherry-picking here) Dreaded Death Queen Persephone (Ghost), Vegetation Goddess Kore (Alive). (She has many titles and names, but these are the main two I'm sticking with)
So lo and behold, Danny crosses time and space again, somehow landing in "The Underworld" and meeting the Princeling Zagreus, Zag goes "cool a free brother!" or "A new friend! or more?" and takes him on a journey to meet his mom, which could be his first time succeeding or did this before, and Persephone notices Danny is just like her. A being with bonds with both Life and Death, which is a first for her, that doesn't count Zag since he was born in the Underworld and is already a prince of it, he's 1/4th living, or just fully 'dead'.
"I always wanted another child!" Oh no not another adopter. Could just be a mentor too. They have a great time, Danny could even meet Melinoë (as a baby?). Shenanigans are had, lessons are learned, and bonds are acquired. Both Danny and Zag learn how to be better rulers together and create a good bond between the dimensions of both the "Ghost Zone" and "Underworld" dimensions.
"Ah, you're having a 'Ghost' problem, not an 'Underworld' problem. Let me inform my good friend the Ghost King and he'll be here soon enough." "There's more than one King???"
"See, I deal with Ghosts. My good friend Zag deals with souls, I'll summon him right now!" "Why is he wearing a flaming crown like you?" "Cause he's also a King, duh." "WHY DO WE HAVE MORE THAN ONE KING OF DEATH IN HERE?!"
Again, could be after Danny is made Ghost King, or Before just in the middle of his canon before Pariah Dark and all that drama. Or it could be when he's older than canon, I didn't set this in stone it's an idea.
I'll make a different part for the idea of Halfa!Persephone, one that does include the AU!Ghost King with Danny for sure.

You know what’d be interesting? If when Vlad came back to Earth, the Danny he met was different from the one before.
Like, I see a lot of stuff going around about trans Danny. Now, I don't really believe it, but let's just say, hypothetically, that it was true? Well, what if while Vlad was stuck in space, Danny realized that she didn’t wanna transition anymore. That it shouldn’t matter if she was a little more masculine than other girls. She was just a tomboy & shouldn’t have to go through hormone therapy or a life-altering surgery or literally castrate herself just to appease other people's twisted ideas of what a boy or girl should be. She’s never cared about being a girl before, so why should she now?
Really? She’d only pretended she was one because she remembered her mom saying that she’d always wanted a son. It'd delighted the woman when she started asking to be treated as a boy. She had encouraged it, not even really questioning her about it, but now Danny knew just how toxic that was.
When she takes off her binder & starts using her old name again, it’s like a huge weight off her chest. (She never went on puberty blockers or hormone therapy because it sounded too experimental to her.) She doesn’t have to be something she doesn’t actually think she is anymore!
Not to say that gender dysphoria doesn’t exist, so much as Danny, herself, isn’t a subject to it. She has no problems with the transgender community. She's just not one herself & she doesn't appreciate others trying to force their views onto her just because she isn't the perfect image of femininity.
She is bi though.
Because of this, she doesn’t think other kids should be allowed to make that transition until they reach between 18-25 because what if they changed their minds like she did? What if they wanted children of their own? The brain doesn't stop developing until the age of 25. There’d be no going back after surgery. Like, sure, once they do reach that age, then fine. Go ahead, it's their body & they are mature enough to make that decision for themselves. But otherwise, don't do it.
Danny just jumps with both feet back into being a regular tomboy & loves every moment of it. Unfortunately, she & Sam break up as Sam prefers guys, but they stay bffs.
Then Vlad comes back & he’s stunned by the sudden appearance of this beautiful half-ghost woman. When he learns that she was his little badger & that she was a biological female, he’s shocked into silence. He tries to take out his revenge but keeps getting sidetracked by certain new, rather obvious, features of his enemy.
She inherited her mother's body type is all I'm gonna say. Besides, Vlad's always liked a woman who could kick his butt & look fantastic doing so.
---
Personally, I am of the opinion that Vlad didn't have access to the Ghost Zone until after Danny became a halfa. The reason being that most of his tools are Fenton knock-offs, so I don't see him managing to build a working full-sized portal when even they hadn't yet. Even if Vlad managed to get the proto-portal to actually work, it was too small to be able to fit him & the only things able to pass through would've been blob ghosts & Skulker without his suit, maybe some of the smaller animal ghosts. As such, the only ghosts he would've made physical contact with would've been those just listed. Vlad wouldn't have had anything especially strong to fight like Danny does nearly every day. Not only that, but most of the business he'd conducted in the GZ would've been done through a middleman, i.e. Skulker.
I firmly believe that, as a businessman, Vlad would eventually have found himself weaker than Danny. Primarily because of his style of fighting, which is to never fight anyone that he isn't 100% sure that he can beat & to then overwhelm them with pure power. Did you see how he ran from Pariah Dark & Vortex? Not only that, his personality is that he never cleans up his own messes & avoids the consequences of his actions whenever possible.
As such, I think most of his power is due to being a fully mature adult & even if Vlad has trained his abilities, the fact of the matter is that that sort of thing has nothing on real life experience in battle. Not to mention, I highly doubt he even knows how to utilize his core element & just tries to suppress it whenever the heat gets to be too much. The reason being that Danny needed Frostbites help.
Vlad never had that.
So, I feel like even a female Danny would end up being much stronger than Vlad upon reaching maturity. Like, sure being female affects physical attributes, but not her actual energy-based powers & not her flight. Anything envolving using her body (minus flexibity) would be less than if she was male, but not by much, however everything else would be the same.
So, it'd be like comparing a male nerd to a female veteran. Vet trumps nerd.
At the same time, I do think Vlad has a talent for escapes.
So, it'd be a lot like seeing their first fight in Bitter Reunions reversed.
---
Edit: There have been comments recently calling me a TERF, but that term is incorrect.
TERF isn't simply being anti-trans which is the way that the word's been thrown around. It is defined as someone who excludes trans rights from the advocacy of women's rights.
Thing is, neither women's nor trans' rights are even brought up here. If you're going to antagonize me by calling me something, please use the correct termonology for whatever it is you're accusing me of.
If you wish to debate with me civilly, that's fine. I like a good debate, but please respect me & my opinions & I will respect you & yours. I admit that it's possible that I could be wrong about some things & feel free to try & correct or convince me. I like to think that I'm a mature enough person to be able to admit when I'm wrong, but only if there's enough evidence to do so.
I just don't understand how simply having different opinions from someone elses & merely stating them could infringe on anyone's rights. That sort of logic would mean that no one could ever voice their own opinions for fear of infringing on anyone's rights & that just leads to stagnation. Or, is it that only your opinion matters? If so, that's highly arrogant & I can't help but wonder where such an idea came from. It's a sentiment that lacks empathy.
Maybe I'm just trying to increase visibility on detrans rights? They're a minority too, even more so than transpeople in fact, so why is it that so few people talk about it?
I hope you all have a good day, take care of yourselves, & learn tolerance for other people's opinions.

Danielle Masters Fenton Phantom;
Dani was born from Vlad Masters failed attempt at cloning Aidan Al Ghul Daniel Fenton due to his initial obsession with the Hero's adoptive Mother, which expanded to include him when he learned that he was a halfa(half human, half ghost) like himself. When it became clear that Danny would never willingly become his son, Vlad tried to clone him. Out of all of his failed attempts Danielle was the only one that came out relatively stable, but even she wasn't entirely so. Parts of her would randomly melt into goo and she would have to wait for her structure to stabilize so she could reform, until eventually she was on the verge of total break down.
That was when she went to Danny, Vlad telling her that they needed Danny's help to be able to stabilize her. Even though that was technically true? Vlad was also hoping to be able to force Danny into a role as his son, Dani's existence had quelled his obsession for a bit- but only until he was faced with a chance to gain Danny as a son again. Eventually Dani realized that Vlad was using her as a means to get to Danny, and so she turned against him and helped Danny who in turn helped to stabilize her using some of the Fenton's equipment.
After that she stayed in Amity for a couple of days before leaving to "explore the world", really she knew that staying in Amity would make it easy for The Fentons to learn Danny's secret and put him in potential danger. Because of that she only visits occasionally and doesn't let any adults know she's there, sticking with the trio and Jazz and sleeping on Sam's couch. Before she initially left to explore the world Jazz pulled her aside to talk to her, she wanted her to know that Danny had a twin brother. She told her that she didn't know how similar they looked because Danny didn't really talk about him, but she wanted her to know just encase so she wouldn't immediately assume Vlad was trying to clone him again if she ran into him.
It was about a month after Danny was told her would be crowned King of the Infinite Realms that Dani showed up in Amity and learned as much, and not long after that she ended up in Gotham. She was drawn to the city because of it having a high ecto plasmic signature, and decided to stick around for a bit because it seemed interesting.
Optional
Going with the plot line in my story, she meets Jason Todd and is drawn to him because she can sense his pit exposure. He doesn't set off her ghost sense immediately, but it's almost like when you almost sneeze but it goes away. Eventually when he gets annoyed at her following after him and a bit of the pit rage peaks through it does fully trigger her ghost sense, after she realizes he has died and come back she makes a habit of bothering him when in Gotham and that it how she eventually meets the other Bat's. She will leave for a few days or weeks at a time, but when she comes back she always goes to bother him first. Even if she won't admit it because of her fear of connection and abandonment, she comes to see him as a brother even before knowing Danny's connection to the Wayne family.

As much as I believe Vlad to be an iredeemable asshole in cannon, I like the idea of a begrudging mentor Vlad. Like, say in an alternate universe everything starts of the same but he's not got some evil plan to kill Jack and marry Maddie. He's bitter and resents them for turning him into this abomonation, resents them for being happy when he can't, he tries to stay connected, but he just can't stand being near them and fears their reaction to his ghost side. (1/3)
(2/3) He takes advantage of his new powers, he steals and cheats his way to power, living life lavishly, but it doesn't make him happy, none of it fills the emptiness in his heart. He spends most of his life miserable up until one day he invites the Fenton's on a whim, perhaps in some desperate attempt to find happiness again, where he meets Danny. It goes similarly how it went in the show, Vlad discovers he is a halfa like him, see's how his parents treat him... ~ ~ ~ i think part 3 got eaten, bro, but i'm gonna work with what i got.
Vlad sees this kid who's like him who's parents still talk about killing ghosts and destroying them in front of him. not knowing that they're threatening Vlad. that they're threatening their own son. he see's these so called scientist haven't learned anything about ghosts in the years that they've been estranged and that they've managed to make the same mistake twice.
and he see Danny, a moody teenager, going through the traumatic process of dying and gaining hard to control powers on top of being a highschooler and social pariah. he sees this kid in desperate need of guidance and sees his parents who are neglectful and unaware of a fact he learned within a day of knowing Danny. and he says, "if you can't handle the responsibility of having a kid, he's mine now." yoink
except, obviously, he's really, really bad at it. being a mentor, winning Danny over, being a good person. all of it.
initially he just straight up offers to help Danny learn his powers and that works, Danny agrees, because Vlad isn't trying to kill danny's parents or attacking him, or stalking them, so Danny has no reason not to accept the help. Vlad seems okay for all his rich guy eccentricities.
but then the lessons actually start and danny realizes. oh. this guy has no idea how to teach. and oh this guy has the moral compass of a rotary fan. and Danny initially goes with it. in canon danny's can be swayed by petty stuff and money up to a point. he can let a lot of shit go and is even willing to do some soft crime if he thinks it's for the right reasons. and Vlad might beat him up when trying to teach him to fight, but that's part of training, right? and he might be changing a little under Vlad's influence but danny doesn't see that as a bad thing, until Sam and tucker basically call him out and he accidentally hurts one of them. something that Vlad had told him to do.
so danny bails. basically confronts Vlad and tells him he's a shitty mentor and that he's gonna peace out. suck eggs, fruit loop.
but Vlad had thought things were going well. he's gotten attached. he doesn't want to go back to being alone and he and danny are the only two of their species in the world. so typical villain/stalker stuff happens between them for a bit. Vlad tries to win danny over with money, with manipulation, with blackmail. and Danny isn't having it. (he has blackmail on Vlad too). Vlad is growing increasingly desperate and looks and acts a mess. this is a vulnerable Vlad. we're not getting well kept always cocky and put together except when danny embarrasses him Vlad. we're getting a pathetic man trying to cling to the only human(ish) connection he has and slowly falling further into depression and insanity.
and Danny pities him. because Danny had that human connection too. in the early days before he decided he got to see vlad's dorky and cool side. Vlad was generous with his money. vlad only swears in food. he lights up when he watches a packers game and is a total fanboy.
and Danny kinda gets how he became like this. how his isolation and loneliness and fear drove him further and further down the road of corruptness and evil. Danny learns what he would become without his friends and if anything Vlad is better than that. it's almost similar to how he is with val. he understands where she's coming from and sees that she's a good person even if her actions have taken a turn in the wrong direction. he feels the same about Vlad. he thinks maybe he can convince Vlad to be better.
so redemption arc/reverse mentor relationship because danny is gonna be trying to teach Vlad how to stop being a fruit loop and start making some friends his own age. the comedy potential of that is amazing. i have the mental image of Danny convincing vlad to go on a date with Harriet Chin and coaching him from behind her even though he has next to no dating experience either. pure shenanigans.
i also see there being several back and forth instances of kidnapping. Vlad locks Danny in his house because he doesn't want to be alone (Danny eventually escapes and gets mad. Vlad learns never to do that again). Danny kidnaps Vlad to be a chaperone at a school event, mostly to get Vlad to lie for him. another time Vlad kidnaps danny to go to a rich person party because he said he had a kid in a pathetic attempt to make a friend (moral of the episode is lying to make friends doesn't work) so he just has Danny pose as his son that whole episode and they're trying to get along and seem happy, meanwhile snipping at each other in whispers. they think no one is buying that they're related but ironically them arguing at the end of the night is one convinces the person they're family. "me and my daughter would fight all the time, especially at events she didn't want to come to." probably muddies the moral but that's common enough in dp.
just gradually develops into a weird redeemed uncle/mentor dynamic. Vlad really isn't teaching Danny much. he still occasionally has his moments to shine with explaining new powers and showing danny how to commit tax fraud or lie to the police. but he's mostly just this weird guy who's first friend in twenty years is a teenager.

Alright, now that I’ve drawn both halves lets talk about the ideas a friend and I came up with! So first of all, we had this idea that since her ghost sense is visual, as in she can see ecto-energy traces, we thought it might be cool if that was also an X-ray vision kind of deal. Basically, she can see ghost signatures/auras through walls!
Then there’s her friendship with Vlad and Jack. Since they both still have a crush on her tensions are high but Maddie doesn’t really notice at first since she’s too busy getting used to her powers and being half ghost. After the accident though, Vlad blamed Jack for putting her in the hospital in the first place and has been pushing the guilt trip on his former friend to get him to back off so he can finally make a move on Maddie. At some point though, Vlad, being the fruitloop he is even goes as far as turning himself half-ghost just to be with Maddie. Obviously she’s not thrilled by this but at least Vlad would never dream of fighting her for real.
As for Jack, he already felt guilty and from then on tries to be a lot more careful with their inventions...but eventually Maddie and Jack grow closer anyway either before or after he becomes a halfa too because Vlad’s advances are clearly getting out of hand. Apart from that, the three of them stay friends although Vlad’s on thin ice and at one point Maddie straight up tells him if he wants to stay in her life he needs to make peace with Jack since what happened wasn’t his fault. Both of them know how impulsive Jack can be and Maddie was the one who chose to push Vlad out of the way which was how she became half-ghost and its unfair to use what happened as an excuse to make Jack look bad.
So if Vlad really cares about Maddie he’ll do the right thing since they’re all friends and fellow researchers so all three of them knew the risks. Also, since Maddie can’t have kids either she buries herself in learning more about ghosts and realizes they’re not all bad. Although at first she still considered herself more human than ghost and didn’t think they were anything alike. As a result, the three of them mostly focus on researching ghosts while the rivalry between Jack and Vlad remains but hopefully he’ll wise up and stop being a fruitloop otherwise she’s already turned their confessions down once and if this keeps up she’ll leave to focus on herself for a while.

Pull.
My first for the Phic Phight! 1,685 words.
Danny's been summoned. But not by who you'd expect. In fact, not by an actual person. Prompt by Greyheartwriter.
-----
Danny had been summoned before. Or rather, Phantom has. Usually by Sam, with Tucker occasionally tagging along. Typically when he was grounded. His two best friends always got a kick out of it. Grounded or not, they were going to hang out with their friend, especially when he insisted he should probably stay home “just in case”. He hadn’t gotten caught yet, but there have been a few close calls. Regardless, summoning Phantom was one of the rare moments the trio had to goof off and be regular teenagers. Well, regular enough anyway.
Danny sat with his elbows on the desk, hands gripping his hair in frustration. Falluca had assigned a large problem set to be done overnight. Like Danny didn’t have anything better to do - rest, catch ghosts, nap, hang with his friends, sleep. At 10:30 pm, he was almost done, he was just stuck on this one problem. He thought about calling Sam and asking for help, but he really wanted to try getting this on his own first.
He grabbed his pencil and tried writing out the problem for the 400th time when he felt the pull. “Oh no,” Danny muttered and looked around his room before trying extra hard to focus on his math homework and not the pull. It always failed, but he had been trying to train himself to ignore the pull. “Not. Now.”
Danny put his face closer to his paper and tried to focus, but the pull was getting stronger now. Ugh, why him? Why can’t people summon other ghosts? Well, that could get ugly and dangerous real fast, but come on! He was gonna kill Tucker and Sam. Or maybe…
Maybe his friends were struggling with the same problem as him and they wanted to put all their brain power together. But they could have just called. Regardless, he was still resisting the pull.
The pull was just a feeling of needing to be physically somewhere else. Or it started out that way, anyway. It was like holding your breath and forcing yourself to not hiccup again. You could try to deal with it absentmindedly, but usually it was all you could focus on until you were satisfied. And that’s where Danny was at now, the pull was beginning to consume all of his thoughts, it was beginning to cloud his brain of anything else. He gripped his desk as he felt another strong pull. Whoever was calling him had done it at least 3 times now. Again, Danny tried to focus on his paper.
Another pull, and Danny’s vision became cloudy. He felt anxious. He needed to be somewhere. What about math homework? That was supposed to be his top priority, they had a test on Friday. He gently started shaking as he tried to refrain.
He fell out of his chair at another pull, another call. Fuck it. He couldn’t hold on anymore.
He sighed, took a deep breath, and focused on the pull. He felt immediate relief as he answered. He felt the familiar feeling of following the call, like riding a waterslide or a rollercoaster in the dark. You had no idea where you were going, you couldn’t see anything in front of you. You didn’t know how long the ride would last and you had zero control. You were just being forced in a different direction, sometimes feeling the whiplash of the unexpected.
He could feel his core becoming colder. He felt his transformation into Phantom, and soon enough, the blackness was beginning to fade, and he tried to gather his surroundings. “Sam, Tucker, if it’s you I swear I’m gonna-”
Oh, OH. This was new. Danny didn’t even know that this was possible. He guessed it made sense though. Maybe Ouija boards were like cell phones in the Ghost Zone. Ghosts had to get a hold of each other somehow.
He turned his body as he slowly looked around. He didn’t know this part of the Ghost Zone. He didn’t even see any ghosts around. He started to panic. He didn’t know where he was, or who called him, or if anyone even actually called him at all. Was this some new stupid ghost power he had to learn to controll again? He just figured out how to keep his pants from falling down when he tried to flirt with girls. Not important right now, he reminded himself. He formed a small ectoball of energy in his hand, preparing himself for any attack.
But no attack came. Instead, he just felt a little nudge at his feet. Looking down, he sighed and dropped his ectoball. “Really?” He glanced down at his caller. “First of all, how did you even learn to do that?!”
Headbutting his ankle was the small green fluffball nicknamed Cujo, in his puppy form. To answer Danny’s question, he used his nose to nudge the planchette on the board, moving it around until Danny began to feel the pull again, though this time the pull wasn’t as strong because he was already in his destination.
Danny chuckled and scratched the pup’s ear. “What’s up buddy? I gotta finish my homework.”
Cujo barked and wagged his tail ferociously, sticking his butt up towards the air as he bounced around. Eventually, the dog dragged his squeaky toy towards the halfa and barked again.
“I can’t play! I have to finish my homework so I can try to get a few hours of sleep in a row tonight. Sorry dude, but no.”
The puppy’s excitement level deteriorated quickly. He let out a little whine, and gave Danny his best puppy dog eyes. Danny sighed as he rubbed the back of his neck. Cujo was adamant on playing, that much was clear. He called him 6 times already, what was going to stop the pooch from doing it again until he got what he wanted? Maybe just for a few minutes…
Cujo’s tail began wagging again as he could see Danny caving in. “Alright, alright. I needed a break anyways.” He formed another ectoball and threw it as hard as he could. “Go long, Cuj!” He smiled as the pup darted after the ball at lightning speed and stretched his muscles for the few seconds it took for Cujo to return with the ball. The pup barked excitedly.
Danny smiled, he always wanted a dog anyway. He threw the ball for Cujo for another few minutes, before playing tug of war and teasing the dog with the squeaky toy. “Who’s a good boy?” Danny said in a voice only reserved for Cujo and other animals (except for Sam’s pet snake...he couldn’t use his little baby voice on that thing, it was too weird). He rubbed the dog’s belly, laughing when Cujo’s back leg would twitch in response to the belly rubs.
The phantom yawned as he laid down on the ground next to the pup, using one hand to prop his head up and the other to scratch Cujo’s chin. “I’ll admit, you are making me feel more relaxed.”
Soon enough, Danny was snoozing with the little puppy curled up into his side, snoring softly. Though, the moment of peace didn’t last more than 15 minutes as Danny woke up to the feeling of being pulled again. He groaned, gave Cujo a little kiss on his head, and answered the new call.
Sure enough, he was in the middle of Sam’s room, falling to her rug as he was still too drowsy to make a better landing. He heard Tucker’s laugh and jolted up, shaking the remaining grogginess out of his head. Danny groaned, “what?!”
“Look who woke up on the wrong side of the...rug…” Tucker tried. Danny could feel Sam rolling her eyes as she offered him a hand so he could stand up.
Danny couldn’t help but let out a low growl, “Tucker…”
“We’ve been trying to call you for 25 minutes already! Guess you didn’t have your phone on you. Thank the goddesses for Ouija boards,” Sam stated as she straightened out her skirt.
“Why? What’s wrong? Is there a ghost?” Danny examined her room, making a face at the snake that he swore was glaring at him.
“School starts in 4 minutes, dude,” Tucker explained as he grabbed his backpack.
“You gotta fly us to your house to get your stuff then fly us to school, and maybe we won’t get detention this time,” Sam put her backpack on as well.
“Ah, fuck,” Danny quickly grabbed his friends’ arms and flew as quickly as he could to his room, grabbing his backpack and flying to school. His parents were already in the lab working on stuff, and Danny doubted they even noticed he was missing and almost late for school. A bomb could go off in the town and they would be so immersed in their work that they wouldn’t hear it. His overattentive sister, on the other hand, had apparently been trying to get a hold of him for an hour now, only stopping when Sam texted Jazz that they had Danny with them.
The trio landed in the bush as the first warning bell rang. Danny transformed and they ran into the school together, making it to their homeroom late, but for once luck was on their side as the teacher wasn’t paying attention...her car alarm mysteriously went off.
Danny pulled out his notebook and realized he still had to finish that math problem. Shit.
He turned as Sam tapped his shoulder, handing him her homework. He smiled gratefully.
“Don’t worry, Tucker had to copy mine too. That problem took me 5 hours to solve. You both owe me.”
Danny sighed in relief and nodded. He had 10 minutes to copy this down, and it was two pages long. It should be a crime to assign problems that long. He pulled out his pencil and started scribbling down the solution when he felt it.
Another pull. Damn that dog. No, he loved Cujo. Damn that Ouija board. “Remind me to find Cujo a puppy friend,” the halfa muttered to his friends.

The Other Side
Phic Phight Oneshot for Kiinotasha and KC: (AU) Born a halfa and raised in the Ghost Zone by his mother, Danny struggles with his human identity when a permanent man made portal appears in the Ghost Zone.
On AO3 and FFN
-------------------
Danny never questioned his life until that man made portal spawned. He never forgot when he first saw it six years ago while playing with Youngblood.
Naturally, they were playing aliens and spacemen, Danny's favorite. Earlier in the play session, they had found it, and it was deemed part of their spaceship. It was just a metal outline, an octagon. Thick enough that they could sit, and they pretended that the limited space was the entrance. Obviously on the left side was space, and the right side was their ship. Eventually their moms called them home, and during dinner when asked about his day, he told his mom about it.
She frowned, and she asked him for more details. Having played on it all day, he described it perfectly. His mom paled, and she forbid him from going there again, but she didn't expand on why.
He saw no reason to be afraid. It was just a metal shape. There were far more dangerous places in the Ghost Zone. So the next day, he told Youngblood about his mom's weird reaction. His mom had reacted the same, but didn't say why. His dad explained that it was dangerous, but not what about it was dangerous. Danny didn't have a dad, but he was sure that if he did, he probably would have said the same thing. But neither child could get it. What was dangerous about a shape?
So they just played with it again the next day, and they lied to their moms about what they did.
Two years later, another ghost had join to make them a trio. Her name was Box Lunch, and she was honestly a lot of fun. But she was still a girl, and they didn't tell her about their secret fun location until they were sure she didn't have cooties. When they showed her, she instantly knew what it was.
"That's a ghost portal!" she exclaimed. Youngblood and Danny thought she was stupid. Ghost portals didn't stay anywhere permanently. They opened and closed at random, when the human world and Ghost Zone would temporarily merge and allow for a rip to tear. But it always mended back together quickly.
"No it's not," Youngblood scowled. Box Lunch made a face at him.
"Yeah-huh!" she insisted. "My mommy and daddy get into the human world all the time! She said some people there have been trying to make a permanent portal to here!"
"Nu-uh!" Youngblood argued. "My dad said that humans wouldn't do that, they're more afraid of us than we are of them!"
"Yeah-huh!" Box Lunch said more forcefully. "My parents were human once, they said that people constantly wanna hunt us in the human world! And that they're coming here!"
"If they're afraid of us, then why come here?" Youngblood challenged.
"What else would it be?" Box Lunch asked, crossing her arms.
"It's a weirdo ghost's lair!"
And as they bickered back and forth, Danny had remained quiet. He didn't know how to feel about any of this. His friends often forgot that Danny wasn't just a ghost. He was also human.
Not that he was a ghost who was once human, that died. He was both, and he always had been. Born that way, according to his mom, because his dad was human. Danny didn't know too much about him, and he never really thought to ask.
He knew that his name was Jack, and how he looked like. His mom had hung a photo of him in his room so that he'd know; blue eyes, black hair, with a square jaw and in a distinctive orange jumpsuit. The orange suit always reminded him of the blue one his mom wore underneath a lab coat. She said he looked just like his dad when he was in his human form, and he could absolutely see it. Though as a ghost he had white hair that he seemingly inherited from nobody, with his mom's light blue skin and yellow-green eyes. As a ghost, he matched with a black jumpsuit, though as a human, he preferred regular clothes.
Most ghosts had learned of Danny's true nature early on as the news slowly spread when he was born. They loved him and accepted him as one of them. He could go out into the Zone as a human, but it always felt weird. So he was always a ghost.
That night, as he got tucked in for bed, he decided to bring the metallic object up again.
"Box Lunch said that the big metal shape is a permanent ghost portal," he blurted out. His mom stared at him with wide yellow eyes, and so he knew that Box Lunch was actually right. "Is it?"
She sighed, sitting on the edge of his bed.
"I believe so," she confirmed. Danny sat up.
"Is that why you don't want me going near it?" he asked.
"Yes," she replied. Danny cocked his head curiously.
"But if I'm also human, wouldn't they be okay with me?" he wondered. His mom paused for a long, long time. "I'm also one of them."
"I don't know, honey," she admitted. He could tell that she did know. She kissed his forehead. "I'll talk to you about it when you're a little bit older, okay?"
"Promise?"
"I promise. Now good night, sweetie."
It was four more years before it really became relevant again. He had essentially forgotten about the unoperational portal as homeschooling, other friends, and general undead life had continued on for him and his mom.
Youngblood didn't age, since he was once human and died, and so as Danny got older, they hung out less. While Box Lunch, a born ghost, grew, he became distant from her too for unrelated reasons. Danny wasn't alone, however. For a while, he hung out with other ghosts who had died young before he met his best friend. He was a bit older than him when he had died, sixteen to his fourteen, but Johnny 13 (and his shadow) and him had almost instantly become friends and hung out nearly every day. Often his girlfriend joined them too. His mom also allowed him to keep a newly dead dog that had followed him home, that alternated from a puppy to a large hulking beast of a monster dog. Danny named him Cujo.
Ghost Writer provided lessons in the arts on Tuesdays and Thursdays for him and a few other younger ghosts, which did include Johnny and Kitty. On the other days, his mom homeschooled him in her passion: the sciences. His favorite memories were of him and his mother in her lab, doing home experiments and building a wide variety of things.
She indulged in whatever nonsense he wanted to build, which included but wasn't limited to: rock cannon, small spaceships, figuring out how they could grow potatoes on the moon like the man in the martian book did, using ecto energy to cook poptarts.
Often her friend, Technus, but better known to Danny as Uncle Nico, came by to do more of the tech-based stuff. Danny believed that Uncle Nico could do anything with technology. He was one of the ghosts that often went through the natural portals, and whenever he came back, he had something for Danny. Typically game consoles and games, but sometimes fun little useless knick knacks that Danny treasured deeply. He fixed those game consoles many times, and also showed him how to download and install cheats and mods to make them more fun.
And after a morning full of science or the arts, Danny would eat lunch then rush off to play with his friends, Cujo always on his heels.
Looking back, he never did much as a human. He had to resort to his human side to rest, or would default to it if he fell asleep. It felt weird being in human form amongst ghosts, and so he was just always a ghost. He never thought much about it, and nobody ever asked him to be a human around them. It was just how things were.
On the day he'd never forget, it was just him and Johnny. His girlfriend had opted not to come. Danny couldn't remember the original topic, but it made him remember the portal. As soon as he told Johnny about it, the two idly scratching Cujo as the dog slept in between them in puppy form, the ghost's eyes lit up excitedly.
"Dude! We have to check it out!" Johnny insisted.
"I dunno," Danny hesitated. "My mom said that I should stay away."
"Come on, it'll be sick! I've always wanted to go back to the human world," Johnny begged. "And you've never even been there, despite being half-human!"
Danny paused. Well, when you put it like that...
"Okay!" he agreed. He floated up from his seat a bit so he could untangle his legs to stand. Cujo immediately got up from his spot laying near them, tail wagging excitedly. "Let's go! I think I still know where it is!"
It had changed since he last saw it. It now had huge yellow and black doors in place of the previous blank space, and it seemed somehow bigger than he remembered it years ago. But it was unmistakably the man made portal.
Even now, he didn't get what would be too scary about it that his mom would encourage him to stay far away. It was just a door.
"This is so fucking cool," Johnny whispered as he touched the door. "Imagine...no more trying to hunt down a portal. We can just come and go as we please...seeing our lost loved ones...seeing my mom again…It's been so long...I dunno if she'd even remember me..."
Danny didn't say anything, but he did begin to think and truly wonder for the first time what his dad was like. His mom never talked about him, and he never really asked. He and his mom were happy, and he also had Uncle Nico. Was his dad kind? Did he also like science? Why wasn't he here? Did his dad even know about him?
"Do you think we can open it?" Danny asked. Cujo licked his fingers, and Danny scratched his head. Johnny glanced over his shoulder at him.
"I dunno," he admitted. His hand turned into a fist and he knocked on the door. "It seems really solid. I don't think we can just break it or something."
"Hm. Lemme see," Danny mused. He came closer, and he put his hand on the door. It was cold, and Johnny was right; it was metallic, just like the outer edge he used to play on, and it would not break easily. His finger traced the middle line of the two doors. "Hm. Maybe we can pry the door open."
"The humans made this," Johnny spoke. Danny stared at him. No shit. "No, no, I mean. Maybe you should do something to it as a human." Danny thought on this, and he shrugged. Couldn't hurt.
His transformation rings came and went, leaving him in his human state. He was just in a t-shirt and jeans today, and he stayed floating near the portal.
His hand had barely touched the portal when it opened for him.
Danny gasped in shock, jerking his hand back as it opened. Johnny had also jumped, going backwards a bit, and Cujo's fur went up as he barked. It fully opened, and he couldn't see anything but the green ooze. This wasn't anything like Uncle Nico had mentioned natural portals being like. They normally acted like a window you could see through. But it was an unnatural portal made by man.
"Maybe this isn't such a-" Johnny began, but Danny had already stepped through.
There was a weird in between area that shined bright blue that he never heard Uncle Nico describe. But in this in between, he could see exactly what the ghost had mentioned. He knew he was still in the Zone, but he could look out the portal into the human world like a window.
A man in an orange jumpsuit, with black hair that was graying, was sitting in a room that reminded him very much of his mom's lab. He was staring at the portal in confusion, likely because it had randomly opened, and Danny instantly knew who it was. He had no idea if his dad could see him, but he found himself rushing backwards, and back into the Zone.
The second he returned, he became a ghost again, and he silently began to fly away as he tried to process. Johnny asked no questions, only following, Cujo following them both.
That night, at dinner, he finally asked.
"What was dad like?"
His mom stared at him for a moment.
"Well, he was very sweet," she said slowly. "Very bubbly personality. Always went out of his way to help his friends." She smiled softly as she talked about him. "Adored fudge."
"Did he like science?" Danny wondered. His mom gave a short laugh.
"Oh boy he adored it. Not the best at it, but he had a lot of enthusiasm," he replied. "We used to do experiments together all the time."
Danny stared down at his food as he thought. He looked up to her, and he could tell that she already knew what he was going to ask.
"How come I never met him?" he wondered. She sighed.
"...He doesn't like ghosts," she replied. "Aspiring ghost hunter when I met him, actually. I was alive then. Had the same ambitions." At his shocked look, she laughed again. "I know, ironic. We had dated for about two years officially. But then...I died. It was winter, and I was driving late at night during a snowstorm. My car slid off the road, and into a river. And I died from my injuries. I found that I could disguise myself as human, and I was in denial. So I just...continued on."
"...Why?" he asked. His mom shrugged in defeat.
"I guess I just didn't want to admit that it was over. I hadn't done everything I wanted to do yet. I was still in college, and I felt like my life had been forcibly finished before it had even truly started," she admitted. "Jack had proposed, but I had declined. I was too afraid to tell him. He began pursuing ghost hunting more seriously as a profession and building weapons and portals. I found out I was having you, and he was so excited to be a dad. I began getting scared. I didn't know how long I could continue the lie. I didn't know how it all would affect you. Then the police found my car and body, and I knew I couldn't avoid the inevitable any longer. So I left. I had no clue how to face him, or even how safe you might be if we talked. Especially after you were born, and I realized that you were half ghost."
The more she talked, she more somber she became. By the end, she was sniffling a little. Guilt began to wash over him.
"Have you ever talked to him again? Like after I was born?" he wondered. She shook her head no. "How come you've never taken me to the human world?"
"I had considered it. But it's too dangerous," she explained. "Humans aren't like ghosts. If they knew that you were also ghost...you wouldn't wanna find out what happens."
"...Do you regret any of it?" Do you regret me?
She smiled softly despite the conversation.
"You were the best thing to ever happen to me," she told him. "I may have been very anxious about being alone, and how you may turn out despite it all. But you were born healthy and perfect in every way. You're absolutely the light of my afterlife."
Danny smiled back, feeling some reassurance. His mom stood up, leaning over to peck his forehead before picking up her plate. He heard Cujo scramble out from under the table, ears up in excitement.
"I think I'll finish this later," she told him. "I'm not too hungry tonight." She glanced down at the dog. "This isn't for you."
Cujo whined, following her as she put her plate in the microwave. Danny nodded, sparing a small smile to Cujo and ushering for him to come over. He slipped him a piece of chicken as his mom left.
Later that night, Danny couldn't sleep. He was too busy sorting out his rushing thoughts. He was of course still him. Nothing really changed, but there was this new growing emptiness. Danny was still Danny, but there was a whole other side to him that knew nothing about. It began to eat at him more and more. Who was this human side besides just human Danny who lived in the Ghost Zone? He didn't know.
He now wished that his mom had taken him to the human world before so that he could know. She did say that there was a risk in the humans knowing he was also a ghost, which he didn't get. The ghosts accepted him as one of their own, so why wouldn't the humans? He didn't get humans at all. And he needed to know more about them. He was one of them.
By breakfast, his mind was made up.
After an unusually boring lesson with Ghost Writer together, Danny immediately went to Johnny once their small class of sorts were dismissed.
"I have to go back." Danny couldn't breath for a moment. "I have to see what it's like. Like you said, I'm also human, and I've never been there. All my unlife, I've been a ghost, here, in the Ghost Zone. My dad's in the human world. And I need to know what it's like to be human. What it means. So I can maybe meet him one day."
Johnny nodded.
"I think I get it," he said slowly. "I'll come with you. Keep you company. I think I could pass for human pretty well, even if I have to say that I have some kind of sickly disease that keeps me pale."
Danny grinned.
"Thanks," he replied. "Come on."
It took no time at all to find the portal. Danny stared up at it, his breath once more stolen as he tried to think of a reason why he shouldn't go through it.
Nothing came to mind.
"It's okay if you don't wanna," Johnny said. Danny shook his head no.
"I have to do this," he replied. "I need to do this."
Johnny patted his back, and that was all the subconscious encouragement Danny needed to turn human and press his hand to the door. Once more, it opened. The fact that he's even able to open it made him know that this was something he was meant to do. He once again stepped through with Johnny right behind him.
