God, I live for any story where Bruce realizes he's taught Dick he either a) matters less than him or b) matters less than literally everyone on earth... Like, you see it sometimes in the comics, Batman reacting to Dick's iron-strong belief in sacrificing himself. And it is always a mix of anger, terror, or guilt. Like, Dick will pull some shit that is incredible and saves people but requires him to really not give a shit if he dies or not, and Bruce will be screaming at him to stop, going 'this is me, I did this'. - @jackhawksmoor

Religion in RWBY
While we now have a bit more information on the Brother Gods and their origins, I am still interested in the other religions in RWBY  as worldbuilding.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The White Fang Throne Room was based off medieval cathedrals, and both rooms have the image of this hooded Faunus.
Tumblr media
and Fairytales of Remnant also has the God of Animals, although whether they are still worshipped is in question.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This circular design is also seen in the Beacon Vault and the church-like building from the Ruby Vol. 4 short.
Tumblr media
There is also a statue of a woman outside said building.
Tumblr media
For real life religion, the writing on the wall in Burning the Candle is from Grímnismál, one of the poems from the Poetic Edda about Norse mythology.
Tumblr media
Arslan has the Endless Knot on her sash, which is a Buddhist symbol.
Argus, Atlas, Kali, Mercury, Marcus, Neptune, and Sun are all names that come from mythology, plus they have Norse weekday names like Thursday.
Qrow and Ruby have cross accessories in some of their outfits.
In the Shining Beacon Part 1, Yang and Ruby both use singular “god” as an exclamation, while the ship captain in Of Runaways and Stowaways uses “gods” plural. Ironwood used “Brothers” in Pomp and Circumstance.
I’m not really going anywhere with this, I just wanted to write this out and think it’s an interesting but minor bit of cultural worldbuilding.

Albert Racinet's "Polychrome Ornament," 1869 PLATE VIII. GRECO- ROMAN ANTIQUITIES. POMPEIAN STYLE. DECORATIVE ARCHITECTURE.
THE purely decorative architecture, which we find represented on the inner walls of the apartments in Herculaneum and Pompeii, seems to belong less to the domain of reality than to that of fancy. Tradition attributes to the painter Lidius, in the time of Augustus, the invention of these architectural compositions, so elegant though so fantastic; and they are frequently intermingled with maritime scenes and landscapes, or animated by various figures. Executed by Greek artists, or by Etruscans working under their influence, they were highly appreciated by the Romans, who found in them the elegance and poetry of Greek art, in place of their own stereotyped forms of architecture, of which vaulted ceilings and arcades were the most striking characteristics. The principal subject of the plate is a painted wall from the Casa delle Suonatrici, taken from the great work of Zahn: Les plus beau, ornaments et les tableaux les plus remarquables de Pompei, d' Herculanum et de Stabice; Berlin, 1828-30. It is considered one of the finest of its kind. The two single figures have been added to the design; they do not exist in the original. One of them, that of the dancing girl, on the dark ground, was discovered in the Torre dell' Annunziata. It is the finest of the twelve figures which were found in the same apartment, and is similar to those which Pliny calls Libiclines. The little winged genius, with Bacchic attributes, which occupies the upper medallion, was found in the excavations at Civita. These two figures are taken from the great work of Mazois: Les ruines de Pompei ( 4 vols folio; Firmin Didot).

Reputation has 2 parts
Tumblr media
With the release of Reputation Taylor provided a Parody Tabloid which included a prolog letter:
"When this album comes out, gossip blogs will scour the lyrics for the men they can attribute to each song, as if the inspiration for music is as simple and basic as a paternity test,"
See also: Reputation timeline
Reputation Magazines has 2 volumes
Reputation was released with two variants of TS Parody Tabloids, with different backcovers. Taylor discussed the album having two sides in her Lover interview with Zane Lowe (at 4:30 in). There she said one half was weaponized and the other was the real story about love and friendship.
One refers to this awful real piece of journalism about Haylor and this one. The paternity test in the letter, 'who is Olivia's real father' and references to pregnancy rumours in tabloids are interesting. It's possible Bigger than the Whole Sky was from the Rep vault. :( which sadly tracks with disappearing for a year and the more serious things covered in Miss Americana.
There are you tube videos that go through every page of them both magazine.
They had the lyrics for different songs, which was a hint that the album covered more than one phase, ta(y)ble of contents didn't follow the track listing:
Vol 1 "Who is Olivia's real father?"
Harry Styles is Olivia's real father, and most of this first part relates to Haylor and the events in the first half of 2016 before she disappeared.
Gorgeous is the most obvious clue of this split, it is track 8 so if that was the order it would be in Vol 2, but it's in the Vol 1 Magazine because it is part of the April 29 story. LAWYMMD is in both, it's the point of change and retreating.
Based on her hair in the Making of Reputation clips you can see her hair in these songs was before she bleached it. Most of these songs were all recorded before she met Joe or Tom H at the Met.
Ready for it
End Game
I did something bad
Gorgeous
Don't blame me
Delicate
So it goes, and
Look at what you made me do
Vol 2: Why she disappeared
The second half is about Taylor retreating and healing after she disappeared. The songs about Joe are here, though not all relate to Joe. Miss Americana continues from this volume, and was filmed during the Rep Tour.
This is why we can't have nice things
Look at what you made me do
Getaway Car
King of my Heart
Dress
Dancing with our hands tied
Call it what you want, and
New Years Day
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The volumes also had different paintings and an 'is this the end of all the endings poster' The paintings were the same, but they each had a lyrics and different poems:
Vol 1 - who is meredith's real father, has these New Years Day lyrics.
Don't read the last page
... but I stay. and,
Why she disappeared Poem
New Years Day is in the Vol 2 book because it is about being settled, but it was possibly cut from 1989.
Vol 2 - why she disappeared, has lyrics from Call it what you want which was in Vol 2.
All the liars are calling me one, nobody's heard from me for months..
I'm doing better than I ever was. and,
If your anything like me Poem

/// You know, I’ve been with-a-grain-of-salt enjoying @bestworstcase ‘s analysis from the sidelines, but the vol 9 commentary has been particularly enjoyable. I caught up on most of those posts, thought about some of the commentary leading up to the volume from the trailers, keeping me up until 4am. I promptly then woke up just shy of four hours later with my eyes popped right open, everything having percolated in my sleep, because I’m calling it right now:
1) Something something you can’t make something from nothing, not everything is as it seems, time is wonky.  The denizens of the Ever After are grimm. The characters do not die, but “ascend” by falling through a hole in the ground which a grimm in the real world then crawls out of.
2) Something something the god of darkness is actually more benevolent (doesn’t insta-kill his creations when they fail) and the god of light can’t do shit on his own (Ambrosius’s creations were pulled from the same pool?). we saw the color schemes of god of light and god of darkness shift. We are in a god of darkness realm now where everything is in reverse, (they went through the looking glass. A mirror world.)
less certain, but makes sense:
3) Something something this is Salem’s Lost Fable, not one of Oz’s stories. Salem is the girl who fell through the world (a grimm pool) and manipulated her way back out of the Ever After and can now influence grimm. Alyx is Salem. Alyx is the protagonist (hero? anti-hero?). Salem gets her hero arc, though not entirely honorable.
4) Something something grimm are believed to have no souls, that’s why. They don’t die, they get sent back to the Ever After. Unless they get eaten by the Jabberwalker. Unless they get hit with the god of light’s Silver Eyes. Summer Rose was used as a prototype hound, (dipped in a grimm pool?). Summer Rose is the Jabberwalker. Trying to “fix” her little god-of-light-now-dark corner. Trying to find something. Something something the heart never forgets, she’s going to find her emblem and remember her promise.
5) Something something the pressing question to every citizen is “What are you?” This is the land of choice.
6) Something something Cat Most Curious helps them along their way, but I haven’t slotted that piece yet. Is he the spirit of choice? Showing them possibilities through questions? Soothing their hurts here where the crown in the real world caused anguish? I’m not sold, but there’s... something.
7) The tree is the Beacon vault? It comes to you when you’ve made your choice? Can they open the door to get back home? How without a maiden? (Or will they have one? Or bc time is wonky will someone else open it from the other side?)

books i read in march 2023 📚
( trying the read more thing for the first time ever cause this is so long hope it works 💖 )
1. the hurting kind by ada limón - ★★★★★ - goddamn it, i really cant decide between four and five stars here . but at the end of the day, even though i cant say i loved every single poem, the collection as a whole is so full of life and defiant grace i just cant resist rounding up . ada limón has to be one of the best nature poets ive read so far ( cant wait to reread some of these poems outside when spring begins to feel like spring ), and also one of the few who can truly make this blunt and direct writing style work . if i were to talk about every poem i enjoyed, id be here all day but shout out to foaling season specifically that one hit me almost physically
2 + 3. the sandman: the kindly ones ( vol. 9 ) + the sandman: the wake ( vol. 10 ) by neil gaiman - all the stars in space . to me - if i loved it less, i might be able to talk about it more . shrimp emotions dont even begin to describe everything these last two volumes make me feel . i say this all the time though + there is not much else i can say without spoiling things, so . i dont know . just read it . the one thing i want everyone to take from this blog is that they should read it
4. panics by barbara molinard - ★★★★ - i think i found this thanks to lees ( stephaniesays1968 ) storygraph ... one of the instances in which the story behind how something was written is almost more interesting than the writing itself . barbara molinard was known for destroying her work and this is the only book she ever published - and being aware of that does make the stories even more haunting . or haunted perhaps . very madwoman in the attic, very surrealistic, recommending this to those who enjoy kafka and shirley jackson
favourites: the plane from santa rosa, the fathers apartment, untitled ( isolated fragments, liberty ), taxi, the sponge, im alone and its night, the vault
5. serious concerns by wendy cope - ★ - i expected this collection to have roughly the same energy as the famous orange poem, but instead it was just very ... english wine mom after her fourth divorce . though undeniably witty, occasionally funny and even somewhat subversive, the ever-present vibe of cynical pragmatism made it completely unenjoyable for me . however, wendy copes wikipedia page claims that her later collections are different so perhaps i just started in the wrong place ? i wouldnt want to discourage anyone from giving this collection or author a try, but personally i simply dont share her sense of humor
6. contemplation by franz kafka - ★★★ - i spontaneously picked up the czech translation during a slow day at work and ... well, it sure helped pass the time ! i have no idea how i feel about kafkas fiction to be honest - on the one hand he is so much more than the sadboy people tend to reduce him to and there is certain joie de vivre in his writing, on the other hand i find his style ... dry . ( saying that feels like a crime ) this was a pretty hit-or-miss collection for me, but i feel more motivated to read more of his work now, so . a win is a win
favourites: the sudden walk, excursion into the mountains, passers-by, on the tram, clothes, rejection, reflections for gentlemen-jockeys, the street window
7. howls moving castle by diana wynne jones - ★★★★ - this was so whimsical and chaotic and just bursting with creativity . way more down-to-earth than i expected, but it was almost healing to see these really flawed characters loved and happy . im so excited to watch the movie now, unlike everyone else i didnt feel much for book howl ( i just kept thinking he needs a fancam set to womanizer ) but perhaps i will fall for his movie version ? we will see . im very intrigued by diana wynne jones' style, it made the story seem as if it was writing itself ... cant wait to read more ! and recommend her work to every child i run into
up next: i said this last month, but i need to read my silly little college textbooks for real this time, so i should take a little break from this weird marathon reading i seem to be doing . anyway i hope to slowly get thru weavers, scribes, and kings by amanda h. podany ( finally ! nonfiction ! ) and um . well . there is still the prequel to the sandman . and a few spin-offs that seem interesting . and i downloaded stardust the other day because i love actively making my parasocial relationships worse . i should disclose that im horrible at planning though, so chances are i will just read ten completely random books again instead of any of these . love and light

Episode 172 : Yield To None
"Do you wanna be dope, or do you wanna deal it?"
- Common
All Hip-Hop at a nice steady pace - but a varied platter of vibes - for this episode, as I celebrate my birth month!
Great personal news : I'm very proud to be included in the new "Hidden Histories : Black in Manchester" resource by Parise Carmichael-Murphy - have a read!
Twitter : @airadam13
Twitch : @airadam13
Playlist/Notes
Meyhem Lauren & DJ Muggs : GT3
From the car-themed "Members Only" 2019 collaboration between Meyhem and Cypress Hill DJ/producer DJ Muggs, this track integrates the sound of some very angry engines as an additional instrument/element of what is otherwise an extremely sparse bit of production - drums and bass only. Meyhem is laid-back and comfortable at this pace, crafting a track that even those of us without a Porsche on the driveway can appreciate - well, as long as our speakers or headphones deliver the goods!
[RZA] Raekwon : Can It All Be So Simple (Remix Instrumental)
You might detect a little sonic garbling where I was using Serato's "stems" feature to try and remove the vocal samples in the hook, but other than that here's the glorious sound of a hard-to-come-by RZA instrumental of a track from the monumental "Only Built 4 Cuban Linx..." LP. Rae, Ghost, and RZA took their track from the Wu-Tang debut LP which was already a classic and subtly made it a little darker, a touch rougher and a little less nostalgic. A masterful remix and rewrite.
Roc Marciano : Ridin' Around
A very different kind of rider music to the opening track, but still with an ominous bassline which helps carry the vintage crime vibes perfectly. This is a deep cut from Roc Marciano's seminal solo debut "Marcberg" album, with his gangster wordplay on full display atop a track with more drum action than on much of his later work.
Showbiz & AG : Trapped
This is one of those records which, despite being by a highly respected group, has likely slipped under your radar. The DITC production legend Showbiz is here under his original name (you can find much of his other work credited as simply "Show") alongside his day one MC AG on this late-night creep number from the 2012 "Mugshot Music" album.
Planet Asia ft. Prodigy : Stick & Move
If you love your dark, underground NYC Hip-Hop, you might have heard this sample used elsewhere, but for the current episode this is the slow, menacing, bi-coastal track that gets the nod. Fresno and Queensbridge in combination as Planet Asia and Prodigy (RIP) go back and forth over an Evidence beat on this 2005 release. Not even a hint of going for the pop audience here, just gutter from start to end. Got to respect it.
Mud Family : Itchy Town
I've been holding onto this one for absolutely years! I first heard this on a "Radio Zero" show courtesy of Dave The Ruf, and it's a dark, brooding piece of UK boom-bap from this highly-regarded north London crew. Centred around the MCs Chester P, Skinnyman, and Mongo, they released their core work in the late 90s and early 00s, with this absolute beast being on their very first wax release, 1997s "The Mud Files, Vol. 1". Production on the EP as a whole is credited to Deckwrecka, Firebomb Fritz, and Mad Money Wah - not sure who did what on this cut, but I applaud them for cooking up a track that still bangs after over twenty-five years!
DJ Premier : Dee Ell P
It's been over a decade since DJ Premier gave us a "Beats That Collected Dust" collection, but there's a good reason for that...as he correctly points out, the beats that end up included have to be given time to collect that dust! With that said, the third edition is out now, and is a good digital pickup while the (likely pricey) vinyl works it's way through distribution to the shops. As for the title of this selection from the new release, I haven't deciphered it yet. "The LP"? Was it a track meant for Large Professor, perhaps? Probably overthinking it - just enjoy the master of the MPC 60 going back into his vaults.
Mabanua ft. Kev Brown : Holdin' It Down
I had completely missed this but was introduced to it by none other than Kev Brown himself when he played it on one of his "Beats 'n' Stuff" shows on Twitch! While he drops plenty of unreleased material, he'll throw in overlooked gems from his discography like this one, a collaboration with Japanese beatmaker Mabanua. Given that Kev is on the mic all the way through, I can only assume that Mabanua did the production here - even though it has that Kev Brown feel in spades!
De La Soul ft. Common : The Bizness
An old classic from some of the greats. If you don't already have De La Soul's "Stakes Is High" album, you can now easily buy digitally or stream it, so get on that! This track has, apart from one regrettable homophobic reference from Common which the label partly censored, bars upon bars of heat on a self-produced track that you can't help but nod your head to. I can also think of at least three Hip-Hop tracks that sampled/scratched lines from this one, which is a sure sign of a piece of work that has your peers paying attention!
Blu & Exile : Berries and Juices
You can't help but bop to this, Exile's beat has an undeniable bounce and while Blu does say "beat so sweet that I ain't even gotta do s--t", he unquestionably lifts it to that next level with a couple of chilled verses. Bonus points for the "Coming To America" reference 🙂 Take heed to the title of the album this is drawn from - "Give Me My Flowers While I Can Still Smell Them" - and apply that sentiment to not only this duo but all the artists you enjoy!
pH7 ft. Access Immortal and DJ Roger Rekless : New York
A long-lost track that only resurfaced for me during the Great Digitisation of 2020-2023! A trans-Atlantic collaboration with German artists pH7 (Cologne) and DJ Roger Rekless (Munich) coming together with Bed-Stuy MC Access Immortal for a jazzy number with solid boom-bap underpinnings, tight cuts, and an overall clean and refreshing sound. You can find this on the somewhat obscure "Blazing Heat" EP,
Ilajide : Ayerloom
Taking it back (ok, not that far back) to 2015 for a beat from "Latex", the first solo LP by one of my favourites, Ilajide of Clear Soul Forces. That drum beat could have come from an 80s Hip-Hop classic, as could the rest of the sounds on the track - and yet, as a whole it doesn't seem of that era. This Detroit beatsmith isn't afraid to go after a certain sonic hardness that other producers might shy away from in the modern era, and it's that banging aggression that helps set him apart.
Kuartz : Glitch In The Ghost
Local beat legend Kuartz released his new LP "Hybrid Dialects" this month, and it's a collection of bassy, techy, angular production that is well worth spending your hard-earned cash on! This was the first track I heard from it, which he debuted earlier in the year at Manchester's WORKINONIT beatmakers event - it was so raw that I had to ask him for an advance copy 😁 I've played it on Twitch a couple of times but now here it is as a taster for the album.
Grand Agent ft. Liv L'Raynge : Ooh-La-Lah
I hadn't heard this for absolutely ages until pulling it out earlier this month, which is a sign that no-one I've been listening to has been playing it either! Grand Agent collaborated with Oxnard production wizard Oh No on the "Under The Circumstances" LP which this track is drawn from, and the album has the husky-voiced MC Liv L'Raynge as the featured guest - with this track being her standout performance. She burns it down on the opening verse over Oh No's heavy beat, and really steals the whole show to be honest!
Coyote ft. Shaquille O'Neal : 3 Lokos
I first heard an excerpt of this on Instagram - not sure it was on Shaq's page, but either way it sent me to go ahead and find the full version of this new single! Coyote is the pairing of Ladies Love Guapo and Ricky Blanco, neither of whom I know already but they both spit rugged on this track, which they produced alongside Brian Lee and on which they were specifically going for a hardcore 90s feel. I know, I know...you want to know about Shaq. Well...he kills his verse. The doctorate-holding four-time NBA champion has been recording since 1993's guest appearance on "What's Up Doc?" by the Fu-Schnickens and his "Shaq Diesel" LP, and despite a long break he comes out spitting with that hunger!
K-Otix : World Renown
Classic underground Hip-Hop right here from 2000, and now available along with the rest of the "Universal" LP on Bandcamp, so no reason not to put some dough in the artists' pockets! You might hear this record and think NYC, but nope - this is a Houston record! It might have been releaed on Bronx Science record, but the skills are all Texas-raised. The incredibly memorable beat comes from the man known as The ARE, who has also done some amazing work outside the crew, and Damien and Micah take the vocal reins. Big record.
DJ Spinna : Surely (Instrumental)
As we move with the wind-down, here's a beautiful track from the studio of DJ Spinna, taken from the instrumental release of his solo debut on BBE, "Here To There". With Ovasoul7's vocals gone, the guitar of the late UK jazz guitar legend Ronny Jordan and the programming work of DJ Spinna get to take centre stage, giving the track a different dimension.
Method Man ft. Ghostface Killah : Afterparty
An appropriate record to end the show with! A dope sing-songy exchange between Meth and Ghost starts the track off, and the melodic approach pops up throughout the track in between straight up bars over a smooth beat from a producer credited simply as "Q", but better known to most as Qur'an from Da Youngstas (sorry, can't bring myself to put the incorrect apostrophe in!) Still my favourite track on "Tical 0 : The Prequel", just as it was on first listen.
Please remember to support the artists you like! The purpose of putting the podcast out and providing the full tracklist is to try and give some light, so do use the songs on each episode as a starting point to search out more material. If you have Spotify in your country it's a great way to explore, but otherwise there's always Youtube and the like. Seeing your favourite artists live is the best way to put money in their pockets, and buy the vinyl/CDs/downloads of the stuff you like the most!

Reactions As I Read: ● Kingpin time! ● Spidey knocks down Kingpin the same way my cats take me down--by twining between his feet! He doesn't stay down long, though ● the scene on the cover is already happening on page 3 ● (pg 4) Kingpin accidentally hurls Spidey into the power source for the brain-washing mechanism ● Spider-Man uses the smoke to escape out the window, leaving Capt. Stacy behind ● (pg 5) Gwen is getting worried by her dad and now Peter's extended absences ● brain-washed, Captain Stacy rejoins everyone back in the club ● MJ reported the fight from last issue, but the Captain convinces her it was nothing, perhaps a rehearsed scene ● (pg 6) Peter can't go back yet because he's still feeling the effects of the electrical shock he got ● he's seeing double ● (pg 7) he's not even going to tell his friends that he's leaving. But since he has made a habit of running off, they don't seem all that bothered ● (pg 9) Peter realizes he's in love with Gwen ● he's going to go out and try to find Capt. Stacy. His vision is still blurry but it's better than it was ● he hops on his bike and goes to Gwen's house, where he asks for her father ● (pg 11) Capt. Stacy is acting very strange and raises his cane to strike Peter ● (pg 12) Peter raises his arm to defend himself and accidentally knocks Capt. Stacy down, which is of course when Gwen comes back into the room ● she tells Peter to get out and never come back ● (pg 13) Stacy calls Kingpin to warn him that "a teenager is suspicious" of them. Kingpin demands his name ● (pg 14) armed with Peter's name and address, Kingpin sends some of his goons there to take care of him ● but Peter's not home. He stops by the visit his Aunt May, who is still recovering ● (pg 15) the goons go to the apartment and shove Harry aside ● love this panel:
Tumblr media
● Peter tries to convince Harry to go stay with his dad for a while, but Harry says that he's not chickening out when Peter might need him ● that decides Peter to go out as Spider-Man, even if his vision is a little blurry ● finds Stacy and follows him with a couple of goons to police HQ, where he takes them to a vital records storage vault ● (pg 18) Spidey sets up his camera, then busts in on them ● Stacy hits Spidey with his cane, then they all make their escape ● he develops the pictures, but doesn't know what to do with them because he can't trust who might be under Kingpin's influence ● he decides to give them to Jameson ● it makes the front page of a special edition of the Bugle, which Gwen sees ● 👏👏👏
Synopsis: While trying to stop Doctor Winkler from brainwashing Captain Stacy, Spider-Man is suddenly ambushed by Winkler's employer: The Kingpin. The fight is a short one when Spidey is thrown into one of the machines. The resulting jolt blurs his vision enough to make him ineffective in a fight, and so he flees. With Spider-Man gone, the Kingpin completes brainwashing Stacy and lets him go. Stacy meets up with Gwen and Harry who are being told by Mary Jane about Spider-Man's appearance at the club; George alleviates any concern they have about what happened. Meanwhile, Spider-Man struggles to get around the city due to his double vision. Realising web-slinging is too dangerous in this condition, he resigns to change back into his civilian guise so he can get home safely.
That night, Peter has troubled dreams about what the Kingpin had done to Captain Stacy and decides to do something about it in the morning. When he wakes up, he finds his vision has improved, but it is still blurry. He then goes to the Stacy home where he asks to speak to Gwen's father. When Peter tries to confront George over what happened at the night club, Stacy attacks him, forcing Peter to defend himself. Gwen walks in on the situation, and her father accuses Peter of going mad and attacking him. When Peter tries to explain himself, Gwen is too upset to listen to him and tells him to leave and never see her again. Finally alone, George calls the Kingpin to advise him that Parker knows the truth. The Kingpin sends some men after Peter, though when they arrive only Harry is at home, so they instead wreck Peter and Harry's apartment.
However, when the Kingpin's goons force their way into the apartment Peter shares with Harry Osborn, they only find Harry. This is because Peter is visiting his Aunt May in the hospital. When he finally returns home, he is shocked to see that these men trashed their apartment. After learning what has happened, Peter decides to trail Stacy as Spider-Man and learn what the Kingpin has ordered him to do. Spider-Man photographs Stacy going into police headquarters stealing protected documents. Setting up his camera, Spider-Man jumps through the window and tries to stop Stacy. While struggling with some of the Kingpin's men, the wall-crawler is unprepared when George strikes him over the head with his cane. With Spider-Man knocked out, Stacy and the goons flee, deciding to steal the files some other time. When Spider-Man recovers, he takes his camera and flees the scene.
Examining his photos, Peter realises that he has evidence that will ruin any alibis that George Stacy might make, but debates what he should do with the photos. After much debate, Peter decides that giving the photos to the Daily Bugle to publish is the only way to stop the Kingpin and hopefully free Captain Stacy from his control. Jameson is excited to see the photos and orders a special edition to be published immediately. Some time later, Gwen collects the newspaper from her doorstep and is shocked to see the front page story about her father. She is in an even greater shock when she sees that the photos were taken by Peter Parker!

Wanted to leave this for my critique section for the Ruby Rose video Essay but I kinda want to share my thoughts at the moment regardless cuz this video is Horrendous(I'll still discuss it in the Full video when it's done though)
https://youtu.be/wLzGp8ZTg-U
Tumblr media Tumblr media
For his main points/claims presented in the video:
-Jumps to the Assumption that -Focusing on Oscar/Ruby and Jaune/Ruby relationships = Shipping apparently
-Salem is just Crazy EX wife
-Ruby is Never Affected by Pyrrha's Death
- Activating Silver Eyes from only her Mother, despite No mentions of her Mother in Vol 4-5-6,
-Ruby is so Vapid and Empty that all her interactions are seen as Shipping Fuel
-Jaune conflicts with Ozpin makes no sense
-"Why should I believe these two close are close eachother when they have a lack of scenes"
^Talking about Jaune/Ruby and Blake/Yang
-Pyrrha could've been a factor in Oscar's Arc
-Jaune Fighting Cinder was Dumb
-Why aren't Nora & Ren in the scenes Ruby and Jaune
-Oscar is just nothing but Shipping bait for Ruby
-Ruby is Obsessed with Oscar with no reason?
-Jaune doesn't Care about Pyrrha's Death?
-Jaune Resolves his issues in One episode(The Whole Jaune Ozpin Argument)
-The Writers Hate Pyrrha
Time for My counter Arguments
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Starting with the Main Bread and Butter
Lancaster & Rose Garden Critiques
>I find this section the most baffling because Adel aka goes on a full rant on how Ruby has moments with Jaune & Oscar ALONE(Without others like Ren, Nora etc) which totally equates to Shipping Bait and not well I don't know....
Building up the relationships of the characters while also simultaneously imply moments that can be read through a Romantic lense
Oscar and Ruby having a ton of interactions with eachother because in a way Oscar can relate to Ruby who had the whole world on her shoulders, while he has the bear the mantle Ozpin gave him by entering a War he shouldn't of had a part in.
-Them Training with Eachother in a H2H sparring Match(Vol 5)
-Ruby's Speech with Him about the fall of Beacon(Vol 5)
-Vault of the Spring Maiden(Vol 5) Oscar rushed to Ruby's side during the Haven fight & defended her against Lion heart
- Even after Ozpin's lie was revealed, Ruby was willing to reassure Oscar that he won't just be another one of Ozpin's Lives(Vol 6)
-"Seeing Red(Vol 6), Oscar shares his findings on the Colossus Atlas Mech with Ruby that aided in locating a weak point in its defenses.
Now Onto Lancaster,Adel points Out WHY ARE THEY SO CLOSE WHEN THEY BARELY INTERACTED throughout the volume?
>Sore wa Chigau Yo!!!!!
Maybe it's because They were friends from the very beginning(During the Events of Vol 1-3,Ruby and Jaune connected due to dorky and somewhat social awkwardness but later grew to see one another as a righthand partner when they're in a bind)
Jaune & Ruby was eachother's First actual friend in all of this before the teams were formed(during their first meetings, you can get impression of their parallels with both being the youngest members of their Semesters)
-In "Vol 1" Ruby helps Jaune out with his Leadership Skills
-Dance Dance Infiltration(Vol 2) had the pair share a moment together as the Social Awkward Duo
-New Challengers(Vol 3) Ruby does in fact cheer Jaune on when his team went up against BRNZ
- End of the Beginning(Vol 3) Jaune trusts Ruby enough to contact her on Pyrrha's location to stop Cinder
And in the final part, Jaune alongside Ren and Nora was willing join Ruby on her Journey to save what's left of the world
-In "The Next Step(Vol 4), We see more of their chemistry throughout the fight against the Giest w/ Jaune's Coordination skills and Ruby's nibble movements w/ her Semblance allowing them the W
There was also a scene where Ruby laughed on how weird yet Adorable that jaune has a Pumpkin Sweater
In the scene Adel points Out to ship Bait(Where Ruby watches over Jaune, it was meant to show the concern she had for him on how the loss of Pyrrha affected him so much that he trains practically every night in order to be strong enough(so no one could die again)
-Two Steps Forward, Two Steps Back(Vol 5)When Ruby began to blame herself for Qrow's injury from Tyrian and wished for JNR to have never came with her into this fight
Jaune reassured her by saying how she gave them the courage to keep going and that they wanted to help her the whole way through
-In "Lighting the Fire(Vol 5) Ruby stays strong in believing that Jaune can eventually find his true Semblance which helped through away his seeds of doubt
In Fact, The reason why Jaune's and Ruby's moment of reunion(Vol 6) was wholesome is because they made a promise to one another to come back because of the Grimm attack during the previous volume.
As for Jaune being a Dumbass for fighting Cinder(Looking at it Out of Context Yes it is but luckily we live in a world, where it's not black and white)
Jaune was an Emotional Wreck After the death of Pyrrha showcased in moments of prone aggression(I.E Being Irrational)
-Like during the Talk with Qrow about Ozpin's plan(Vol 5)
And Considering the fact that Cinder doesn't recognize him + Taunts him every chance she gets(I don't believe he is stupid for acting out on his emotions even if the situation he placed himself in wasn't the best choice)
"Cinder: You're just a failure with a death wish
Cinder: Are you going to let her die too?
Cinder: (chuckling) I'm starting to remember you, you're the dense one that can't tell when he's out of his league."
As for the "Jaune doesn't Care about Pyrrha point "
He brings this up because Jaune doesn't always show his grief for her and I'm like " Do I really need an Entire Volume dedicated to Jaune just whining about Pyrrha instead of idk walking forwards & improving to secure her Legacy as well as his?"
Also Adel (Pyrrha is Not Jaune's Girlfriend) While Yes the two became romantically interested in eachother at the end of Volume 3,they never truly got together & Jaune didn't truly realize his feelings for her until its too late(Adding to the tragedy of their relationship).
Now for Jaune's Conflict with Ozpin( the resolution) made sense because Jaune didn't want to believe that it was Pyrrha's choice to take part in becoming the Maiden for the people and trying to stop Cinder during the fall of Beacon;Jaune gaining closure with his issue alongside his team as he decides to apologize to Oscar for lashing out as the kid wasn't really responsible for Ozpin's lie at the end of the day.
"Pyrrha could've been in Oscar's Arc" I can see where he was going with this as Oscar and Pyrrha have similar journeys with Decisions that can change the world as we know it(However I believe Ruby and Jaune help do Pyrrha's job already well via their parallels with Oscar)
Especially Ruby's Speech w/ Oscar(Vol 5) on how although she's scared, the dead would've wanted us to live on & fight the good fight.
The Salem part is kinda irrelevant for the most part(Just him going on a tangent that RWBY writers always resort to Romance cuz they don't know how to write proper relationships(points to The Romance in Team JNPR being half baked and states Bumbleby makes no sense due to their lack of interactions in Vol 4 & 5 ignoring the ones that occurred in Vol 1,2,3,& 6)
Same goes for "The Writers hate Pyrrha" part(Just more baseless claims with no actual evidence; with at most the arguments revolve around her dying for only Jaune's development which completely Ignores the Nuance of her internally struggles and Hopeless fight Against a Half Maiden(to keep the school from falling & aid her comrades).
"Ruby is so Vapid and Empty that all her interactions are seen as Shipping Fuel"(So I guess we are just gonna discount how well her Optimistic and Hopeful personality mixing the other Major Characters like Say Weiss as an example)
And the Final Point
" Activating Silver Eyes from only her Mother, despite No mentions of her Mother in Vol 4-5-6"
Um Why exactly does Ruby need to think about her mom every time when she has mentioned her in previous volumes plus the Silver Eyed Blast was not only her mother's memory but also the beauty of life itself through her fun adventures and emotional moments with her friends during hardship.
But yeah I should just go back to the Main subject (The Ships),All in All
Oscar and Jaune Whether just a friend or maybe more have had more than enough moments as the volumes went on to provide the fans leeway into believing that either boy can be a suitable love interest for Miss Rose as a result of their Chemistry.
Hope yall enjoyed and see ya next time

Books Read in 2022
In 2021, I aimed to finish 12 books and finished only 10. In 2022, I once again aimed to finish 12 books - and this year, I surpassed my goal and finished a full 30! :)
The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoevsky
Rilke's Book of Hours translated by Anita Barrow and Joanna Macy
The Fantastic Four by John Byrne - Vol. 2 Omnibus
Siuil, a Run - The Girl from the Other Side - Vol. 1 by Nagabe
Same-Sex Unions in Premodern Europe by John Boswell
A Collection of Poems by Edna St. Vincent Millay
The Year of Magical Thinking by Joan Didion
War is a Racket by Brigadier General Smedley D. Butley
The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway
The Rime of the Ancient Mariner by Samuel Taylor Coleridge
To See a World in a Grain of Sand (a present)
6 assorted vintage comic books (WW, Conan, Vault of Evil, House of Mystery)
The Me You Love in the Dark by Skottie Young and Jorge Corona
Love Me, Love Me Not #1 by Io Sakisaka
The Celtic Twilight: Faerie and Folklore by W.B. Yeats
Slouching Towards Bethlehem by Joan Didion
Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles #1 by Naru Narumi
Face by Rosario Villajos
Seeing the Getty Center
Ms. Koizumi Loves Ramen Noodles #2 by Naru Narumi
Howl and Other Poems by Allen Ginsburg
Rainbook by Claire Wendling
The Cathedral is Dying by Auguste Rodin
Scott Pilgrim's Precious Little Life (Vol. 1) by Bryan Lee O'Malley
Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (Vol. 2) by Bryan Lee O'Malley
Rain Like Hammers #4 by Brandon Graham & The Sandman Convergence #39 by Neil Gaiman and John Watkiss
The $12 Million Stuffed Shark: The Curious Economics of Contemporary Art by Don Thompson
The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. LeGuin
To the Lighthouse by Virginia Woolf
The Epic of Gilgamesh
To be fair, some of the comic books that I bundled together were very slim, so I'm probably inflating my final count... but I remember and enjoyed every one of them, so they count to me >:)
Looking back, there are so many books here associated with distinct memories. I remember reading Howl on the plane from LA. I remember exactly where I sat at the kitchen counter reading Rodin's Facebook-style rant about cathedrals (and thoroughly enjoying it, it felt like sitting in his studio!). I dragged my boyfriend to the local ramen place after reading Ms. Koizumi. I still get angry about the translator's note at the end of the Rilke book that I picked up in Beloit lol (okay those translators LITERALLY deleted multiple lines from a poem that they translated because THEY DIDN'T LIKE THE CONCEPT THAT RILKE HAD ADDED THERE. I understand translation can require some creative interpretation but they COMPLETELY ALTERED the poem to better suit their taste, deliberately denying Rilke's intent, and called it translation. UGHHH)
I want to read a lot more Virginia Woolf - To the Lighthouse was a vision! She's a genius and has stolen my heart.
I also want to return to Proust; finally check out Eliot, Shelley, Byron, Milton, etc beyond Tumblr snippets; conquer The Ambassadors; continue to pursue Dostoevsky, Yeats, LeGuin - I've got a taste and I want more!
Last year I was afraid of taking on too much. Now I'm afraid to take on too little :) I suppose I'll still aim for at least 12 books finished in 2023, but with the intent of matching/surpassing 30.
Right now I'm reading Grief Lessons: Four Plays by Euripides, translated by Anne Carson. Just finished crying over Herakles. It wasn't the tragedy but Theseus' love that made me break.
I can't wait for what 2023 will bring! Happy New Year, everyone! <3

My Dick Grayson/Nightwing Comic Recomendations
The Beginning:
Batman Long Halloween  + Batman Dark Victory (My preferred take on Dick’s origin but his story is tertiary)

Robin Year One
Year One: Batman/Scarecrow Robin
Clay - Batman Black and White #6

Legends of the DC Universe #6
Superman #700
"Don't Know Where, Don't Know When" - Batman Black and White #1
Batman the Black Casebook
Teen Titans:
DC Universe Legacies Volume 1 #4
Teen Titans: Year One
Teen Titans #14 is, for its time, brilliant. This is Dick as a true hero.
Optional ~ Teen Titans 1966 #4, 5, 8, 11, 18, 19, 34
New Teen Titans Vol. 1 #38
New Teen Titans Vol 1 #39
(Read it all, but if you haven't the time start with these)
Boy to Man:
New Teen Titans: The Judas Contract
Adult Titans:
Titans: Then & Now
Nightwing stories
Nightwing Volume 2 #24, #25, #41-#47, #71-#75, #79-#82,

Nightwing: The Great Leap
Nightwing: Second City,
Nightwing: Setting Son
Nightwing: The Untouchable
Nightwing v4 #42
Let Them Live!: Unpublished Tales from the DC Vault #2 (Nightwing: "Without a Net")
Once you're more used to comics, I'd then recommend reading through;
The New Teen Titans (1980-1988), This falls apart by the end but for the majority of the run it's brilliant if heavily dated.
Batman Prodigal,
Read Nightwing volume 1,
Nightwing by Chuck Dixon,
Batman & Robin by Grant Morrison,
Batman: The Black Mirror,

Into the Anthill pt 11 - Back To Basics
Looks like it’s time for Hank to switch names yet again now that he’s off the Avengers so he’s returned to just being Ant-Man for these next few adventures. He’s contacted by other heroes for several missions but he never joins their combat during this period, always opting for an alternative path that keeps him off of the battlefield. The one time he volunteers for super-heroics here is Marvel Feature Presents: The Astonishing Ant-Man.
Naturally, that went very poorly for him.
🐜🐜🐜
Avengers vol 1 #93
Hank donned his classic Ant-Man gear when Iron Man called a meeting of the original Avengers to determine if they thought the new Avengers were to blame for the recent Ronan incident. Rather than helping with their decision, he instead went on a solo adventure inside Vision’s body to determine the cause of a recent short in his brain.
Iron Man vol 1 #44
A flashback story set not long after Hank’s first battle with the Scarlet Beetle. Apparently, it had regained its super-intelligence sometime after Hank turned it back to normal and swore vengeance on humanity again. Before it could begin its new plan it was crushed by a canister of kerosene and seemingly killed.
Avengers vol 1 #99-100
The Avengers called Hank and T’Challa hoping either could cure Hercules of his recent amnesia, but neither could. Black Knight then summoned all of the Avengers to plan for an attack against Olympus, even the members who had quit (Hulk, Ant-Man, Wasp, and Swordsman). Hank and Jan stayed behind to monitor for portals between the realms while the rest of the team handled the fighting.
Incredible Hulk vol 1 #154-155
When a woman from a micro-cosmic world became stranded on Earth, Bruce Banner turned to Hank to help him return her to her world. Hank had not gone microscopic since his first adventure with the Fantastic Four, but still kept that particular serum in his personal laboratory vault.
Marvel Feature vol 1 #4-10
Hank was working on some new drugs for Doctor Curt Connors with Peter Parker as his lab assistant when Connors’ son was kidnapped. A local cartel was holding him hostage in exchange for the experimental drugs, so Hank suited up as Ant-Man and saved him with Spider-Man’s help. The boy was saved but Hank was infected by a microbe that prevented him from growing back to his normal size.
On the way back to his lab Hank fought Egghead again, preventing him from siphoning the intelligence out of his niece, Trixie Starr. In exchange for his help she sewed him a new uniform and brought him back to his lab. There,  he found Jan bickering with her chauffeur (still Whirlwind in disguise), who took off after she refused to add him to her will. He returned in costume and attacked, but Hank made his presence known and fought him off. Jan wound up drinking the experimental serum that he hoped would negate the microbe and turn him back to normal. Of course, it got her stuck at small size as well. Whirlwind burned the lab down and told the press that Hank and Jan had died in the fire so that he could conspire with her attorney to get her fortune.
After Jan began to mutate into a half-wasp monster, Dr. Nemesis caught them and negated enough of the microbe’s influence to allow him to return to his normal size. In return he demanded classified Avengers intelligence. Hank knocked him out for asking.
Minor/Cameo appearances from this period:
Avengers vol 1 #135
Captain Marvel vol 1 #35, 37

OOH OOH OOH! lotro ask game!!! 2, 4, 9, 20, 35, 42? <3
Thanks for the ask!! <3
2. Do you have a favorite Epic quest?
I love, love, love the session play quests. My favorite tho has to be the ever-iconic Boromir POV session play during vol 3 book 7. I’m sure he does canonically know everyone’s names in the fellowship, but the names he gives them in the game are too hilarious.
4. Do you have a favorite side quest?
I really love the lore-based side quests in Lothlorien that talk about the tale of Amroth and Nimrodel, as well as the ones where you explore or reflect in different areas. The slower pace and encouragement to take in the scenery were a breath of fresh air after spending so much time hacking at things in Moria.
I also love the side quests in Rohan that mention how Eowyn has inspired other girls and women, and the relationships that she has with the various female thanes and reeves. LOTRO has always been pretty good about its depiction of women imo, but it seemed like around Rohan it really started stepping into portraying relationships between women, which I appreciated.
9. Do you have any favorite character(s)?
Corudan, my beloved. **spoilers if you haven’t reached Helm’s Deep** I still can’t believe I just waved goodbye to him and sent him on his way at Helm’s Deep without realizing I wouldn’t see him again. ;-; The devs better pick up his storyline again and let us know what happened to him—and he’d better be alive—or I’ll riot.
And since we’re fresh off the Harvest Festival, I love Ivy Redsmith. She’s such a good friend ;-;
20. Do you spend a lot of time on cosmetics- outfits, weapons, housing, pets? Do you have any favorites?
I’ve spent WAY too much time on cosmetic outfits. I spent most of my time collecting cosmetics/cool armor and creating outfits when I first started playing, and it’s the reason why I’m perpetually running out of inventory, vault, and housing space because I have too many beloved pieces I’m not willing to part with. (On the upside tho, my new alts never have to run around in their janky beginner armor for very long because I always have something from the stash that I can share with them lol.) Most of my screenshots of the outfits I made were on my old computer so I don’t have access to them (rip), but I modeled a lot of the ones I made after the outfits I saw on blogs like Cosmetic LOTRO, Starry Mantle, Material Middle-earth, and Wandering Around Arda.
As for favorite pieces, some of my favorites include the Tunic and Trousers of the Autumn Traveller (Harvest Festival), the bee wings (Harvest Festival), the Swan Cloak and Cloak of the Dove (store items), Gwir-palvais (Isengard instance), all of the Dunland quest reward armor (that was when I really did my inventory in lol), and the High Elf starter armor.
35. Are there any quotes you like?
Rodwen and her group of failing adventurers (in Parth Galen/the East Wall in East Rohan) have a lot of choice dialogue, with my favorite being, “We lost Cuilinn not long after leaving Cair Andros; he was a minstrel, and did not understand the need for silence at a crucial moment.”
And I love every sassy comment Corudan makes about third wheeling with Horn and Nona. :D
42. Are there any fun easter eggs you’ve found that you enjoy?
According to the devs it’s not an official easter egg (and wasn’t a connection on their radar at all), but I read on the forums that the Ivy Redsmith/Halson Cleary story line coincidentally mirrors Connie Willis’ short story, “A Letter from the Clearys.” I've never read the story, but I thought that was cool, even if it was unintentional.
My favorite official easter egg is the hidden deed for climbing to the highest point of the Hollin Ridge, which bestows the “Ridge-racer” title upon completion. My main bore the title proudly for a long time. :D
[lotro asks]
