Quick Steddie blurb ♡

Years after Vecna, when scars have healed and people have moved far and wide, Steve goes and visits Eddie. It's not the first time, not even close. Between acting like Dustin was their child and passing him off to each other like two divorced parents on each other's weekends and just wanting to talk again, they've actually gotten close. Eddie is the second person Steve calls when something happens, sometimes the first - only because he and Robin are roommates in their small apartment together, if they weren't Eddie would still be the second.

Steve's just cooking for his best guy friend that he may or may not be in love with, right? Nothing strange that Eddie is hiding, right? Wrong. Out of nowhere, Steve hears a meow and something - he assumes a cat - comes hurtling full force at his head, knocking him back slightly and digging its tiny claws into his forehead. "Shit- Eddie what the fuck!?" Steve shouts, flailing like a maniac to get the small cat off his head. "Ozzy, no! Bad!" Eddie says, picking up the cat by under its front two arms.

"Did you just throw a cat at my head!?" Steve says, wiping the tiny droplet of blood off of his forehead that bloomed there. Steve glares at the tiny culprit who Eddie is...cuddling. And cooing to.

"Tha's a bad boyy. You hurt the Stevie" Eddie whispers in between kisses to the Ozzy's soft forehead. "No, I didn't throw my cat at you. He just likes to climb and you're very climbable. He probably just jumped off the fridge" Eddie says, barely even looking up to see Steve's bewilderment. Steve shakes his head and returns to the food before it burns. "I'm in love with that." Steve whispers under his breath with a huff. Though he's sure he only thinks it, Eddie's head perks up.

"Aw, see Ozzy, he loves you even when you gave him a fourth concussion!" Eddie says, smiling widely. Steve, who had frozen up the second Eddie spoke, unclenches every muscle. "Yeah. Yep. Mhm." He says quickly. A little too quickly. But Eddie doesn't say anything more.

Eddie finally sets the poor Ozzy free and slinks up behind Steve, giving him a quick peck on the cheek as if they do this every day. "I know you meant me, sunshine" Eddie teases before snatching up some of the food and bolting, leaving Steve absolutely dumbfounded.

EUCLID ANALYSIS.

Told you guys it was coming, didn't I? I apologise that this has taken a bit longer than expected, my mental health hit me like a bullet train, but I do hope it's sufficient.

Please note this is a general analysis. Although I do go into theories, both my own and others, this is just general thoughts. Also note when I speak of Vessel, I mean Vessel as a character, not the person, unless I specifically state so.

Feel completely free to add your own thoughts, correct any errors I've made etc. As per usual, my DMs are completely open to anybody wanting to discuss ST <3

Let's start off with the basics. ‘Euclid’ is the anglicised version of the Greek name Eukleídes (Εὐκλείδης), mainly known via the ancient Greek mathematician Euclid of Alexandria, who is seen as the ‘father of geometry’, and most famous for his work on symmetry. Its general definition is something or someone who is renowned and or glorious (A) and the lesser known definition is something that is a copy of the same (B) (taken from Euclid’s ideas on symmetry), which we’ll come back to in a bit.

However, there is another Euclid in history that we’ll be referencing; Euclid of Megara. This Euclid, similar to our mathematician, was an ancient Greek Socratic (having been a pupil of Socrates) philosopher. I’ll be taking part of a text out of his Wikipedia article since his ideas have been explained thoroughly there.

First off, this is an incredibly interesting choice of name for a song. Outside of someone's maths and philosophy class, this name doesn't exist to most, so the fact it's been chosen at all is intriguing.

Vessel has shown time and time again he enjoys sometimes elaborate references in his art, an example being chemistry and biology in TPWBYT (most notable would probably be ‘Telomeres’), so, I think it would be easy to say that, whether it be a reference to Euclid the Mathematician or Euclid the philosopher, that said reference is understood and intended by Vessel.

So, let's start with our mathematician, shall we?

What I find interesting about Euclid of Alexandria is that his life and existence outside of his work on geometry is almost completely unknown. There's almost nothing known of him, as a person, other than where he spent half of his career (Alexandria; Egypt, hence his title), where he may have studied (Platonic academy) and a general idea of when he lived (around 300BC). What is known about this insanely famous man who created the foundations of symmetry is incredibly barebones. People take Euclid at face value for his work, just like Vessel (both as an artist, and a character).

Further, we, as listeners, don't have much of an understanding of who Vessel is other than being a mouthpiece of a deity known as Sleep, someone once human now grasping at the threads of humanity and someone sharing some of his struggles in life (both with Sleep and unknown people). Like Euclid, he is barebones, we take him at face value; a vessel. He is both a mouthpiece for Sleep, a mouthpiece for his own emotions (obviously) and a mouthpiece for us. His experiences transcend being just his, due to his anonymity, therefore allowing us to connect and express our own experiences. It's music for the sake of music; expression.

Now, having talked through Euclid as a person, it's time to talk about Euclid and his symmetry. Symmetry in shapes is 'reflections, rotations, translations, and combinations of these basic operations. Under an isometric transformation, a geometric object is said to be symmetric if, after transformation, the object is indistinguishable from the object before the transformation- a copy of the same’. So, of course, this means shapes like squares, rectangles, parallelograms and circles. Circles are a representation of infinity, wholeness, unity and loops. What does Euclid do? Loop itself (starts and ends with B major, which also happens to be the same chord that TNDNBTG starts with), and loops the three albums together, musically and lyrically.

Now, onto Euclid of Megara.

Euclid was born in Megara, Athens and was a follower of Socrates (sneaking into Athens to hear him speak, and he was also present during his death). He is most known for his philosophy that good is the knowledge of simply being and that the opposite of good does not exist, aka evil. The Good is described to be a perfect, eternal, and changeless Form, existing outside space and time. A form of Heaven without a God.

This idea could be linked lore-wise with Sleep Token; Sleep could, in a way, be The Good literally. Bliss. Further, with the idea that there is no actual opposite of good, then how can anything be bad? How can Sleep, as a deity, have bad intentions if there is no actual evil?

So far, with these two notable figures in mind, we can perceive Euclid as one of two ways (and there are more ways to come). Euclid can be seen as quite literally being a form of symmetry; a parallel that Vessel lays his life on because it brings all of the produced albums, all of his stories, together. Or, we can think of Euclid as Vessel. This brings me to @euclidsvessel's post on their theory on Euclid; what if Euclid was Vessel’s name before he became a vessel?

The theory that Euclid could be Vessel’s old name is not only extremely insightful, but very plausible as well. They explained their points very well in their original post, and I don't want to repeat what they’ve already said, so I do implore you to go read that! It's not detrimental to needing to understand this post, but I highly recommend it. Despite this, I am here to both support their argument and bring my own comparison. Take a look at the cover art for Euclid:

Let me repeat the lesser-known definition of Euclid; a copy of the same. A clone. A replacement. Held in the right hand is the decapitated head of Vessel's old (2nd gen.) mask. Specifically, the one that covers his mouth; the version that relinquishes the most amount of humanity. The album art is a representation of change portrayed in a symbolically gory way. Beheading, depending on the era you’re working from, symbolises both vengeance as well as a form of purification. By cutting off the head, you remove any ‘unholy’ thoughts. It's also among one of the most horrific and humiliating ways of killing someone (since it was typically done publicly, and sometimes the heads were placed on spikes of battlements as a warning).

Furthermore, there's a theory that's popped up a couple of times, lore-wise, that Vessel is not the first person to be turned into a vessel of Sleep, and he certainly won't be the last. So, considering the literal album art illustrates a replacement of Vessel, I’d say that theory is pretty much confirmed. In conclusion, the album art can either be interpreted as how Vessel will eventually be discarded and replaced by another vessel, or how Vessel himself will change, for better or for worse; clawing out of his own skin to become “someone new”.

So, to compare the idea of Euclid being Vessel’s old name, and to create the third perception of what or rather, who, Euclid is, what if Euclid will be the eventual replacement for Vessel?

i think we can all agree that it’s not gonna be as simple as ‘arthur gets his daughter back, john and arthur get to live separately’ right? but what if it was? (well not quite but hear me out)

kayne has shown that he’s able to interact with faroe in other timelines, and also transport people (john and arthur atleast) between those timelines, but would he really be capable of creating a whole new faroe for arthur even if he is telling the truth? or of giving john his own body? i don’t think so.

i reckon that, for kayne to bring back faroe in the ‘middle c’ universe, he’d have to take her out of another timeline, which would cause all sorts of problems elswhere. (although tbh i wouldn’t put it past kayne. he doesn’t seem all that bothered as to what effects his actions have on other timelines). even if arthur got faroe back, would he just be forced to let her go/have her taken away from him because of some interdimentional reasons beyond his control?

also, what’s so special about the arthur in our timeline? i mean, kayne is most likely not even from the ‘middle c’ timeline, and the whole ‘darkthur’ thing shows he’s been following what’s been going on in the other timelines. who’s to say he’s not been making empty promises to every other arthur and john? AND IF HE HAS WHAT WOULD THAT MEAN (does he need the same thing from multiple timelines?? tbh i don’t think this point is particularly likely, but just putting it out there)

and as for john getting his own body - he wouldn’t be getting his own back. unless kayne is planning on reuniting him with the king in yellow, where the hell would he be getting that body from? would it be human? would it not? (OR HE COULD JUST PUT HIM IN PARKERS DEAD BODY SSJSJDJGJKFJGG)

the promises he made them are really vague which makes me think he’s definitely not giving them the full picture of the deal they’re making (i mean considering it’s kayne we’re talking about i guess that was a given but still).

also i get that, considering the threats that kayne has made, they don’t have much of a choice but to do what he’s told them to, but what about the repercussions of giving kayne what he wants? it’s clearly not gonna be anything good, and now i come to think of it we know next to nothing about his actual motives. so far he’s pretty much just showed up, killed people, and caused problems.

i’m gonna be real i wasn’t paying that much attention at this point in the episode so i can’t actually remember exactly what he wanted arthur and john to get, but considering the threats he made to make sure they didn’t have any option but to do what he wanted, it’s gotta be really important to him.

and tbh, i’ve got a feeling kayne is working for someone, or atleast being made to do this. he went to some pretty big lengths to prove to john and arthur not only how much power he had, but to make it clear what he was willing to do with that power. i don’t actually have much evidence to back this point up tbh but IVE GOT A FEELING ABOUT IT OK

and also why does he need arthur to do it? is it arthur specifically that he needs for whatever reason? i mean that would make sense, why else would kayne be forcing him to do it, and why else would he have gotten john to try and make arthur get that stone (was that what it was? again, i’m bad at following for the whole hour) in new york.

but has he made them do whatever it is because he knows something will happen? has he made all those promises to john and arthur knowing it won’t matter either way because they aren’t going to make it back?

tldr, even if kayne were to give john and arthur what he said he would, there’s no way it would be as simple as he says it is

okay so sure. we've seen that max was there during lewis' brocedes era, the tail of it, the crashing the burning the breaking the leaving - max saw all of that. yeah he didn't know the ins and outs, the painful and precious details, he didn't know what preceded it all, what lead to the higher-than-ever-seen-before tensions between two teammates. sure, he may have known the surface - childhood friends, spending loads of time together, sharing a dream, getting to that dream, becoming teammates like it's the best thing ever till it turns out to be the worst thing ever - but he probably didn't know about the cornflakes, the shared apartment complex, the unicycles. but that doesn't matter, because he ended up playing such an important role without ever knowing - he was almost the reason for nico to lose the 2016 championship. he was this feral uncontrolled child that didn't let anyone pass him on track, that fought way harder for it than the rest of the grid - or at least, way more reckless. and then nico wins, and nico leaves. leaves lewis behind. the divorce, the silver war, whatever all that stuff. so max plays an important role there.

then lewis keeps on rising to the top, winning the majority of races in each season that follows. but 2017 and 2018 is maxiel-teammate era. it's the growth and continued growth of max who becomes a better and better driver each day - more refined, calculated, but still unwavering. and lewis is at the top looking at it all, has a teammate that doesn't threaten his position, so it's almost calm for him, compared to the years before. but it's not for max - who has a very hot and cold relationship with his teammate. one day they're besties, the next they're fierce rivals, then they laugh again. max wants to impress everyone so badly. and daniel leaves, then. in a much less impactful way than nico ever did to lewis, but he does leave. and leave max at a serious distance. max, the cause of daniels departure. and all the while lewis is this pillar in mercedes and on that top step. max is there climbing the ladders. until, eventually, max and lewis come together.

i don't. i don't really remember my main point with this other than - max played an important side role in the tail of the brocedes era and lewis played a distant side role in the maxiel era. brocedes shaped lewis and maxiel shaped max. and then they come together. it's like -- their focus was constantly on someone else until they had no choice but to look at each other, that person that's been here all this time. and then they crash together with high highs and low lows for an entire season only for lewis to get knocked off his pedestal and max to take it, for lewis to keep aiming for it, for max to race lewis differently than anyone else. max may be that calm pillar on the top step now, but his focus is on lewis. and lewis' focus is on max. and i can't wait to see what happens next :)
