BnHA Chapter 409: Bro I’m Straight Up Having a Good Time
Previously on BnHA: AFO murdered his brother like the mischievous knave he is. Bruce was all, “hey Kudou don’t look now but I think Yoichi might have given you his secret quirk that we didn’t know he had.” Kudou was all, “damn that’s wild, it almost feels like this is a pivotal moment that will change all our destinies forever, you’d think Horikoshi would have spent just a little more time elaborating on this but I GUESS NOT.” Back in the present day, AFO was all, “I’m just going to use all my quirks at once because fuck this kid,” and Katsuki was all, “lol oh shit.”
Today on BnHA: Kacchan is all, “okay, I know I should be hopelessly outclassed, but hear me out: what if I just win anyway. What if I just go ahead and blow his shit up, because this is the final battle, and this is what all of my character development has been building up to since day one. What if I just beat him, because I’m the guy who wins. Simple as that. What if I just kick his ass with my one quirk, and prove all the haters wrong.” Horikoshi is all, “okay, sure.” AFO is all, “wait, wha -- ”
oh my god oh my god oh my god oh my g
Tumblr media
huh. well I wasn’t expecting to start tearing up less than two panels into this chapter but HERE WE ARE
I love that he’s screaming and crying with his balled up little fist right from the get go lol. he was born a pissed off baby
he’s so squishy
and so tiny!!!!?!?! !?!??!?!
and he was RAISED WITH LOVE. fucking thank you, lol. gonna print that out and frame it on my wall. turn it into a flashing neon sign to give me comfort any time I stumble across stray Mitsuki discourse lol
anyway. oh my goodness. if this is a sign of things to come, there’s a very strong possibility this chapter may destroy me. how exciting!!
yep. yep yep yep. this is for sure going to be the chapter that finally does me in. it’s been a great ride folks
Tumblr media
you better not be thinking any thoughts about dying, young man. this had better be meant in the sense of “because I’ll be by your side supporting you instead”, as opposed to “because I will be a little pile of dust in about three seconds’ time oh shit”
(ETA: after finishing the rest of the chapter, I’m pretty sure it’s the former! the first flashback is a reference to his chapter 120 speech -- “even higher than you, Chosen One.” the second is a throwback to chapter 247, when he told Endeavor he only had his one quirk, but it was strong enough to do anything he wanted to do. and the third flashback is one he also had at Jakku when he sacrificed himself to push Izuku out of the way.
so to me, this reads like (1) a reminder of his determination to surpass Izuku and become the strongest hero; (2) foreshadowing for him defeating AFO with Explosion, the Little Quirk That Could; and (3) a reminder of his “origin.” that last one being important because nowadays it’s just as strong of a motivator as his original goal. back at the beginning of the series, all he cared about was being the strongest. now, though, he’s not just fighting for himself; he’s also fighting to atone, and he’s learned to put himself aside if necessary.
as for the dialogue, this reads like a continuation of his mental conversation with Izuku that he began in chapter 362 (“gotta win... right, Izuku?” “so, Izuku... can I still catch up to you?”), and then continued in chapter 406 (“for some reason, I feel like I could overtake you now”). so in that context, “I’ll no longer get in your way” basically means that he’s done chasing Izuku, and that he’s caught up now and can hold his own. his determination to get stronger hasn’t wavered. his confidence in his own quirk and his own skills hasn’t wavered. and his resolve to atone for everything he did to Izuku is as strong as ever. put those all together, and we have the recipe for quite a spectacular redemption fight. his follow-up to chapter 362.
because earlier when he fought Tomura/AFO, he was basically just trying to buy time. no one ever planned or expected him to have to face the Big Bad one-on-one; that was supposed to be Izuku’s job. he was only meant to be there as support. and in the end he wasn’t strong enough, and he nearly died. and rather than being able to support Izuku, he ended up being used against him.
but this time is different. he’s no longer the decoy, the distraction. he’s no longer the pebble. he won’t get in Izuku’s way, because this time he’s going to be strong enough to win the fight. he’s going to hold his own, and get the job done.
so yeah. “I won’t get in your way” = “you can depend on me”, basically. because he’s become that guy at last. the guy who shows up in the clutch and wins the day. the hero he always wanted to be. good stuff.)
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
once again, just really solid hero advice from All Might here. there’s a reason he’s the GOAT
lol but in all seriousness it does tug at my heart to see him shouting so desperately at this kid. especially knowing that he’s presumably feeling the same pride and awe that I am, but with a lot more heart-stopping terror mixed in because unlike me, All Might doesn’t know that Kacchan is actually going to live forever. he narrated chapter 285, All Might, have a little faith
AFO is the extra-est mfer to ever live. but also it really tickles me to think that Kacchan pissed him off THIS much. it’s kind of an honor in a way
of course his plan is to simply just blow AFO up. of fucking COURSE it is. maybe there will be brain cells later on in this chapter, but for now who even needs them lol
OH MY GOD?!?
Tumblr media
DID THIS MOTHERFUCKER JUST BLOW THE FUCK UP FROM THE INSIDE?? am I seeing this right?? DID KACCHAN JUST SPONTANEOUSLY COMBUST ALL FOR ONE WITH HIS MIND
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
(ETA: shoutout to AFO for being so analytical when I personally would have just been screaming, “OH MY GOD MY FUCKING EYEBALLS AHHHHHHHHHH.”)
THAT’S WHAT I’M SAYING THOUGH!! HIS POWER WASN’T DONE AWAKENING YET, APPARENTLY??
oh no wait it’s even better. this isn’t Awakening at all, this is just Katsuki playing 5D chess
Tumblr media
so he actually did have brain cells the whole time then! Katsuki I sincerely apologize. you somehow had the presence of mind to make a goddamn minefield even in the midst of all of this hullaballoo
AND HE’S HUMBLE TOO LMAO
Tumblr media
it’s true!! I’m people!! please ignore the multitude of times I’ve previously called him a dumbass, including earlier in this very chapter lol
hahahahaha yesssssssss
Tumblr media
this chapter is incredibly validating for a number of reasons. I’m going to attempt to remain calm about it. but I’m enjoying this a lot ngl
oh AFO
Tumblr media
:D :D :D
(ETA: you know what, I actually do have more to say about this. because I’ve lost track of the number of times I’ve debated with people about this very thing, lol. for a while there post-Jakku it was just constant pessimism about Kacchan’s future in the manga. all this stuff about how Katsuki doesn’t have a main villain. Katsuki isn’t important enough. Katsuki is being phased out. Katsuki isn’t strong enough. Katsuki’s done developing. Katsuki’s just a joke character now. Katsuki’s just the damsel in distress. Katsuki’s always going to be second fiddle to Izuku. etc. etc. etc.
and then this chapter -- this whole entire fight, really -- comes along, and it’s just nonstop rebuttals, lol. and it’s not just that he’s proving all the negativity wrong. it’s that he doesn’t even care about any of that. AFO is out here trying to goad him with that same “YOU’RE JUST A SIDE CHARACTER” bait, and in response Katsuki just hits him with a Howitzer and tells him to shut the fuck up. AFO thinks he can get to him by being petty, because AFO still sees him as the bratty kid from the Sports Festival. but the present day Katsuki has long since moved past all of that, and no longer gives a fuck whether or not he shares the spotlight. unlike AFO, who never lost his childish egotism, Katsuki has learned to see outside himself, and the resulting growth has made him a bigger badass than AFO could ever hope to be.)
(۶•̀ᴗ•́)۶
Tumblr media
ouch
HAHAHAHAHA
Tumblr media
bro I’m straight up having a good time. this recap is gonna suck this week because there’s absolutely no commentary I can think of to add other than “I’M REALLY ENJOYING THIS, THIS IS GREAT”
Tumblr media
I want to take this entire chapter and get it tattooed on my face
sorry AFO. this must really suck for you
Tumblr media
lmao. is that all Kacchan. tell him how you really feel
OH MY GOD NO WAY LOL
Tumblr media
so, fun fact, I literally just read chapter 385 last night lmao. most fortunate timing I’ve ever had, holy shit
okay so lemme just add some more thoughts on this one really quick
Hawks deserves all the nice things in the world and I’m so sad I can’t give them to him, but at least he gets this. sweet sassy revenge
I am once again calling everyone’s attention to the fact that AFO continues to be his own undoing. congrats on screwing yourself over bucko
Kacchan’s sleeve ripping up Deku-style is once again making my Plus OFA Theory senses all tingly. it probably is just a coincidence and has nothing to do with OFA, but I can’t unassociate it now, so I’m just gonna sit here and read as much into it as possible
if I had a nickel for every time AFO’s eyes blew up in this chapter, I would have two nickels, and that is way too many fucking nickels jesus christ
ever since he came back from the dead, Kacchan’s been doing this thing where he is just really pretty at all times, even when he is being a gremlin. and honestly it’s taken some getting used to, although I’m not complaining
but like in this panel especially, it just really stands out to me how even his “GRYAHHH I’M GONNA KILL YA!!!” face somehow has this really cool, intense, piercing glare now and he no longer looks like a baby troll when he does this kind of thing lol
OH FUCK YEAH
Tumblr media
୧༼✿ ͡◕ д ◕͡ ༽୨
“THERE’S NO WAY I COULD’VE WON THIS ALONE.” OMG. THAT KACCHAN CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT JUST HITS DIFFERENT EVERY DAMN TIME, I SWEAR
he and Hawks basically pulled a “you hold him and I’ll punch” lol. thanks for the assist Hawks
Mitsuki and Masaru being all, “my little baby boy!!” and “HOLY SHIT”, respectively, sent me all the way to the moon lmao
HELLO THERE YOICHI? fancy running into you here. just chilling out over in this montage of people close to Bakugou who are watching him kick ass. did you take a wrong turn, mayhap. you’re not inside of AFO, we know that much. and Deku, much as I’m sure he’d love to have a front row seat to all this, seems to have his hands full dealing with Tomura right now, sadly
so all of that does seem to raise an interesting question, no? where did you come from just now, and why? and when Kacchan says he’s not alone, is there perhaps more truth to that statement than even he knows? or am I once again just reading way too much into this lmao
anyway so yeah! that sure was fun. and with the end of the year approaching and back-to-back two-week chapter breaks coming up, I have a chance to do the funniest thing of all time, and still not manage to catch up, lol. nah but I’m gonna try my best though. pretty sure I should be able to manage

Yeah this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
REALLY looks similar, right?
Tumblr media
I mean, even if we dont include dfo here, WHY does kudo look so shocked when he sees what stars hand is pointing to and then IMMEDIATELY tells izuku to give ofa up, while at the same time still believing izuku can beat tomura if he does so?!
There is NO WAY, izuku can beat tomura while he is quirkless! The ONLY way for izuku to win this, is if he uses a quirk that is the perfect counter to all of tomuras quirks PLUS ofa - and that is the afo quirk! With which he can take all the quirks back and turn tomura quirkless!
Tomura will not stop as long as he hasnt destroyed everything! Talking-no-jutsu will not work on him just like that! Izukus and tomuras relationship is not deep enough for that and tomura hates izuku! Only when you take all the power of him he needs to destroy, talking will eventually work! Because only without the means to destroy, he can finally embrace his humanity!
Dfo canon or not, izukus own version of the quirk or the original - the only way for izuku to beat tomura without killing him and turn him harmless is with the help of the afo quirk! Izuku will use the afo quirk just like yoichi wanted his brother to use it - to SAFE others! The kindest quirk in the world!

Interesting little tidbits at the beginning of this chapter.
Tumblr media
1. Obviously, AFO is crying over his brother dying. There’s literally no other explanation that doesn’t sound contrived.
2. Specifically states this is during “2nd’s time”.
3. If this happened in 2nd’s time then we can suppose that Yoichi had given 2nd OFA and then tagged along with the resistance for a bit before meeting his end.
4. AFO is incredibly angry here. Honestly, if he just tapped into that hate of the 2nd then maybe he wouldn’t have a need for Tomura’s body(this is a joke…kinda)
5. I like how Hori has flipped the usual shadows on AFO’s face to highlight his eyes as it’s obviously important that the reader is drawn to his crying.
6. We’re getting closer to a full past reveal for the brothers. I can feel it. Giving us such a vulnerable, crying AFO that is so consumed with rage he’s eerily calm is quite a big reveal for his character.
Other stuff in this chapter:
Tumblr media
-Hori finally used the Three Musketeer saying, in a way, this chapter with what I assume is Yoichi saying “One for All and All for One” then AFO saying “All for One and One for All!”. Funny when you remember the dude had NO CLUE this was a saying until later in writing MHA. Actually, hold up: it’s VERY hard to tell who is talking here.
-Izuku’s combined Quirks allow him to alter the law of physics. M’kay.
Tumblr media
-Yoichi tells his brother he sympathizes with him and we see AFO in the mindscape. Still seems like he has his potato head in there. Interesting.
Tumblr media
-AFO, once more, “talks” to Yoichi in his head during a life or death moment. As is tradition.
Tumblr media
-AFO doesn’t understand why he can see the ghosts. I’m still convinced there’s a part of him within OFA and he doesn’t even realize it. Maybe Yoichi is the only one that knows? It would be a huge missed story point that explains a lot if it isn’t explored.
-I’m convinced that the end of this series will have AFO(original) and “OFA”(Yoichi) “dying” together.
Tumblr media
-So, Spinner is the trump card here? Really? Interesting turn. I suppose he is Gigantimachia 2.0, so who knows how many Quirks are inside him. However, this brings me to….
-Spinner should be defeated with the help of Stain. Class 1A and 1B kids are fighting him, all seems lost, then BAM, the dude goes still. Stain is there and helps them win. Would be quite a fitting defeat for Spinner.

After 376, I am ready for whatever WILD shenanigans are gonna happen with TomurAFO, Original Recipe AFO, Yoichi/OFA, and Erasure. Let’s start by looking at AFO’s monologues and going back 20 chapters, right after AFO’s initial defeat by Endeavor. AFO says his original body served its purpose and was designed for the scrap heap anyway, so why not try Rewinding himself? Hawks even characterizes this as a “massive yet suicidal power-up.” Once fully formed out of the ashes, AFO says his only task is to “rescue Tomura” from the UA sky coffin (which he could gloopy warp into once he gets close enough). Pretty basic so far….
Tumblr media
Then we cut to Izuku giving Tomura an epic beat down using Second’s quirk during its alleged 5-minute time limit (are we gonna twist fate to extend that?). While we don’t learn Second’s name, we do learn (1) AFO cried when he found out he was defeated by a quirk that amounted to a “peashooter;” and (2) AFO/OFA are resonating together, leading Yoichi to realize that AFO isn’t quite as melded with Tomura as his bragging about a “perfected” body would have you believe. Tomura appears to be bursting, as if the power of AFO is exploding out of him (is he having a change of heart a la Nagant??), and yet….TomurAFO still believes he hasn’t yet USED his perfect body, because Erasure has prevented him from using any of his quirks. He is trying to stall for time and wait for…something…to happen so his “true” power can be unleashed. TomurAFO even addresses Yoichi directly and says that he has a chance to win. He has not yet burst. He can win if Spinner releases Kurogiri.
Tumblr media
When we go back to AFO, he’s telling Hawks how his grand plan is to thwart the future of the whole world, because he’s so influenced by the comics of his youth. Ah, youth. (Midnight would be proud, RIP.) But then AFO says “the experiences of one’s youth determine the entirety of one’s life.” Okay, that’s not true, objectively, but also wow, so predetermined and fatalistic! Not a growth mindset on this guy. He then goes on to add, “more than anything else, I place faith in a person’s emotions.” (Remember when he told young Tomura that heart is power? What experience in his youth showed him that?) The context here is that Spinner’s emotions from his younger days predicted Spinner would make it to Kurogiri and do AFO’s bidding. But what about AFO’s younger days, hmmmm? What made him identify with the bad guy and want to “thwart the future of the whole world?” What emotions are within a rewound AFO? I would have said he’s beyond emotions other than holding grudges (which he does just so he can prove his superiority)…EXCEPT for AFO’s tears as he choked (presumably killed?) Second and realized his “weak” brother beat found a way to beat him.
And then AFO says the quiet part out loud: “In the truest sense, that body is not yet complete. There’s a reason why this version of me is still essential.” HUH? Didn’t he JUST say “This body had already served its purpose?” Well yes, but he was talking about the body that turned to ash in Endeavor’s flames. His new, rewound body must be able to do something that TomurAFO cannot. Something that would permit the perfection of TomurAFO. That would allow him to unlock the “true value” of his body.
Tumblr media
So, to recap:
We have a 230-going-on-113 AFO full of mystery quirks and hatred for those who work together to stop him; his dream since childhood has been to thwart the future of the whole world, but he’s on a time limit until he rewinds out of existence.
We have a not-quite-perfect TomurAFO who may be on a time limit before he bursts, and who may not have all the hatred that he’s “supposed” to have (as Mirio uncovered).
We have Izuku on a time limit with Second’s quirk or else…something (bad?) happens
We have the Manual-Aizawa-Monoma trio keeping TomurAFO under Erasure. Unfortunately, things are looking dicey. Manual’s water is affected by the storm winds, Aizawa holds the Erasure quirk in his body but can’t use it himself, and Monoma can’t blink or else TomurAFO is unleashed…oh, and Monoma is on a time limit as soon as he stops holding Aizawa’s hand.
AFO really has multiple routes to win if he escapes Hawks. For example, he could steal any of the Manual-Aizawa-Monoma quirks and release TomurAFO from Erasure. (He could kill them too, although he’s wanted Erasure from a while and could probably use it to stop his rewinding. That is, if he can rewind himself then surely he can erase himself too.) Hell, he could simply separate them and put distance between them, which I’d laugh at because he’d be using the heroes’ own strategy against them. OR … rewound AFO could steal OFA while his “other me” is under Erasure. At that point, TomurAFO can defeat the rest of the heroes without quirks. And that’s not even counting the Twices taking over Japan, the Todorokis burning Japan, the strange weather patterns threatening the world, and the powerful countries around the world competing to placate AFO. OR maybe it’s just that AFO needs to kill that last little bit of Tenko that’s hiding deep inside Tomura; he needs to make sure Tomura feels unloved to keep Tenko in check.
Depending on how far AFO is rewound, he could even be in possession of a lil stockpiling quirk, giving him the key to open the OFA “vault” without stealing the quirk. If he’s truly back in possession of quirks his old body gave away, there might be LOT of descendants and “resonating quirks” out there under his control. How many “Versions of ME” does AFO have?? Buckle up now ‘cuz it’s gonna be a bumpy ride, whee!

Since someone ‘kindly’ asked how Villain’s Winning can be made (thinking they all die) into a sequel manga I decided to write one out. Because I do love a challenge this is also running under the premise of Dad for One. Note it’s dark and people die because the Villains ‘win’ but there is HOPE.
Tumblr media
The criteria for the Villain’s winning is taking out the heroes, this does not mean they have to kill every hero mind you. Just the big ones like Endeavor, Hawk’s Jeanist, and any that get in their way are a target.
Anyone that stands up? Murder them, so yeah people aren’t wrong a LOT of people would die. But Nezu smart if he realizes it is going side ways he would likely force the kids to get out because they are the FUTURE. Many other adults realizing if AFO becomes fully restored or Tomura can’t be de-quirked any longer many will die.
They try to abort because they lost control. Now here where I do a surprise kicker, AFO getting pissed.
Dabi wakes up and blast anyone near here with a intense heat that nearly turns everything to cinder. As if had just gotten a second wind the ice Shoto used seeming to have helped give him ‘years’ in his life. Almost revitalized and he REFUSES to lose, he doesn’t give a ‘fuck’ about happy ending he already lost that years ago when started murdering people.
Himiko can’t let go of her anger and pain of rejection from both of the people she likes and uses Twice’s quirk to overwhelm Ochaco and her team. There’s too many and she can transform into anything she wants.
Spinner breaks out Kurogiri, now they have their best man to warp them- And of course they reorganize their people because Kurogiri is completely on their side. Not Oboro anymore.
THAT is when they realized they lost, as Izuku was meant to be their ace everyone had been paired up thinking it’s their best match. But the villains refuse, they have NOTHING to lose so they will give up everything to win. Izuku isn’t where he is supposed to be.
Nezu makes the call, telling the adult heroes to get the kid out of there as AFO is at full power and they didn’t plan for this. Many are pissed, angry, some are quick to scramble or fleeing when Tarturus biggest baddies start decimating them.
Then they get news from a crying Jirou that Endeavor and Hawk’s just got killed. They tried so damn hard, they even cracked the man’s helmet but he went in for the kill. Hawk’s and Endeavor risked themselves to keep them alive. All for one didn’t even bat an eye at them the moment those two died and fled because he doesn’t have time for them. Darting off toward where Tomura should be.
That is the story of how the heroes lost and hope died....
It’s a chaotic mess but most of the kids do escape with the help of some adults. Shoto barely survived his brothers attempted murder, but when hears the announcement from his head piece of Hawk and Endeavors death. He just laughs Maniacally, whether it joy or at the absurdity as he wasn’t the cause of it no one knows. He just tries to leave because what’s the point in killing his brother if the one he truly hated isn’t around to see it.
   Shoto can’t even move.
Ochaco and Asui were made to evacuate the moment Himiko used twice quirk as it just seemed endless. They can’t HANDLE that many of them! Yet are mortified at how many people died because of this. Ochaco tried to reason, to talk, but Himiko didn’t want to talk she wanted them dead. Still thinking of the parents who never loved her. Yet she doesn’t pursue them when they go over the ocean to escape... Maybe a part of her still wished they could have been friends.
Either way, many of the class 1-A and most youth involved escape now the final piece... Izuku never did get to reach Tomura as All Might in his headpiece tries to talk to him. To tell him to return to base as it gone down hill- Then there’s an explosion and Izuku stops his running. That horrifying dead dread in his chest as hears someone picking up the mic.
“Are we done playing heroes and villain? I’m getting quite tired of these games,” an ominous voice emerges. All for One had used Kurogiri to warp him, the mist always able to move as he pleases and Spinner had been a great help. “And you All Might, I think you’ve overstayed your welcome.”
And All Izuku can do is scream at him to stop, to not hurt him- Only to hear a scream and silence.
“I’m sorry did you think you were in a hero’s manga, Izuku? I did warn you, you walk a thorny path and I’m tired of holding back. I’ll pick you up soon,” then there’s a click as the weight of what happened sits in and Izuku screams.

Thelreads, MHA 287, Replies Part 2
1) “Yeah! The broccoli boy is the chosen one, he shall guide this quirk forward! Begone, foul demon of the potato fields, begone!”- The fact that AFO’s possession of others through his vestige is treated akin to an actual demon’s, if even more invasive and defiling, says a lot about him.
2) “Yeah Shigaraki, I mean, there’s only two of you, and there’s like, 9 of them on the other side, of course they would be winning this battle of wills. Be grateful they don’t obliterate yo asses out of here”- Tomura doesn’t actually give a crap about stealing OFA himself either, but he’s annoyed that the power can seriously resist his own overwhelming might and the destruction he unleashes with it, so that motivates him to oppose them regardless. 3) “You really gonna try this angle AfO? For real? Even though you know you can’t measure up to their will?
They might have not been stronger than you in the real world, but it comes to willpower, you don’t stand a chance, it’s like a gust of wind against a tornado. This is futile, even Shigaraki cannot help you in this.”- It’s a match-up of quality over quantity actually. Tomura and AFO are outnumbered by the other vestiges, sure, but Tomura’s hatred and ever-present rage against the world entre was groomed by AFO to be as mindless and primal as possible, in order to overcome their numbers. Individually, he can overpower each one of them, and this is only after having just awakened. Given enough time, he could further refine it, now he has experience of the vestige realm, to seriously threaten to take OFA in one go, regardless of what resistance they put up. MHA as a series has always been about emotional highs, invoking that “hell yes” feeling when the heroes pull through despite the odds, bringing you to the peak of emotion in the process. It’s therefore appropriate that AFO's plan incorporates this fact, and best to think of Tomura’s hatred this way: He’s always peaking his hatred 24/7. Even if the other vestiges can resist for a bit, eventually, they will weaken, because Tomura just keeps going and going without letting anything stop him, and that near-force of nature isn’t something a human can resist forever.
4) “OH MY FUCKINGG GOD SHIGARAKI HE LITERALLY JUST SAID HE WAS THE ONE THAT KILLED YOUR GRANDMA HOW ARE YOU NOT CONNECTING THE DOTS ABOUT WHO’S TO BLAME HERE”- Well, he still blames everybody for his issues, so it’s all the same to him. Again, for all that Tomura could be redeemed, he does everything he can to choose not to, because he’s convinced himself he’s better off as a villainous monster, no matter how unhappy it makes him deep down inside. 5) “AfO how dare you speak like that about your own son?! Shame on you, it’s a good thing you don’t have eyes otherwise you’d see how disappointed he is right now”- Izuku started off his journey as a hero with his major antagonist being his childhood bully Bakugo. Appropriately enough, the major villainous threat he faces at the end of his journey, the one his power was cultivated to defeat, is himself just a massive bully as well, and is all the more devastating an opponent for Izuku because of his past experience with it. Izuku’s self-confidence and belief that he’s “worthless” without the powers bestowed upon him have always been a major weak point in his psyche, and AFO is capable of exploiting that weakness with only a few choice sentences. 6) “AND WE’RE BACK IN THE REAL WORLD IT SEEMS
AND READY FOR ROUND TWO I SUPPOSE”- Well, that depends on who you’re referring to. Because I don’t think Tomura’s in any fit state to pilot that engine of destruction he calls a body, but somebody else seems more than willing to jump in… 7) “Oh right, here comes the rest of the circus, with definitely-not-a-todoroki preparing to throw hands against his fam again. Good lord.”- Given how unexpected Machia’s appearance will be for those fighting at the hospital, I appreciate them building up his arrival so much, given it;d be a massive diablos Ex Machina for him to burst in just as they’re on their last legs agasitn Tomura already. 8) “Oh yeah, that’s definitely the face of someone who just lost someone close to him less than half an hour ago”- Dabi’s the kind of guy to always look on the bright side of life. Twice is dead, but otherwise, things are progressing smoothly, so may as well smile so the enemy doesn’t have the satisfaction of knowing you’re upset!....if he is actually upset. Again, hard to tell, he keeps his cards so close to the chest. (MHA ch 271) 9) “…
I don`t know why, but I don`t like the sound of that.”- He’s got a plan, and he’s not gonna share it with anybody, so nobody will be able to stop him…. 10) "Toga is still… thoughtful…
Seems like she’s also keeping some distance from Dabi, but more than that, she’s looking for someone, and we know who. Midoriya is there, and so is Uraraka. She is wondering where both of them are, we know that she is."- Compress is, as ever, noteful of his allies’ true thoughts and feelings and doing what he can to make sure that they’re all together in this evendour, despite his own comparative lack of power in a fight, just like a good supporter should. I actually find it interesting that he phrases the question to Toga in such a way that he’s giving her the option to stay out of the battle if she really doesn’t want to hurt the enemy, even after all the sacrifices their side has taken. It’s more care and consideration for her loss than Dabi’s showing.
11) “We can make an argument about how Hawks had to kill Twice, otherwise countless other people would die instead, about how he was not happy with what he had done, and even about how Dabi has as much guilt as Hawks does about what happen, but that does not change what happens for Toga.
The heroes are there, and they won’t save her, they will just kill her if they deem that is necessary.”- It was one thing for the world to reject her and the way she naturally is. It’s another to realise that it might be ok with killing her if it’d be easier than treating her as a human being, especially in an ongoing warzone. To her, the idea of heroes is a oppressive force that enforces judgement and condemnation, and now arbitrary execution on her friends and allies. She knows on some level that this is part of society’s system, but she wants to meet Izuku and Uraraka, the two she knows personally amongst the “enemy” to get their perspective on events and her specifically. Is she a victim to them? Or a monster to be put down?
12) “And thus, she want answers from the two heroes who she actually trust. She wants to know what they would’ve done, if they were the ones that were there, besides Twice
Would them see him as a person or as villain? They didn’t know what he went through, the pain he felt, would the choices he had to do to survive in this cruel world even matter for them? If it came to this, would them kill him as well?”- Honestly, the outcome would have indeed been different if it was anybody other than Hawks facing Twice – both in the good and bad sense. Hawks did the best he could to respect twice as a person, but it just wasn't enough, and he didn’t have the power to stop the parade any other way in the end. Izuku might have been strong enough to smash all the clones in an instant, and if Uraraka had used anti-gravity on twice, she could have yeeted him a safe distance, but that still might not have stopped the parade from happening. In the end, the fact we don’t know if there was a better way to resolve it puts us in the same boat as Toga and the heroes.
13) “We know the answers, we know where their hearts are, but Toga has been so shaken about this whole situation that she doesn’t know what to believe anymore
Her faith is being tested, she needs the answers to see if there are heroes and villains, or if this is just a lie to justify this madness”- At this point, it’s neither heroes or villains fighting straight out of a comic book, it’s just people on opposite sides coming into bloody, painful conflict with no way to stop it. @thelreads

Tumblr media
It took me way longer than it should have to make a detailed post about Izuku from my Swap AU, but whatever, I dug up a bunch of random anatomy sketches and turned them into Izuku for this.
Before I go off I do want to note in this AU, Izuku’s name is Tomura Shigaraki, just like Tenko’s would have been. In universe everyone but his mother (who’s still looking for him after he went missing when he was 4) and Bakugo would refer to him as Tomura Shigaraki.
For the sake of this post, I’ll still be calling him Izuku.
In this AU, Gran Torino kept in touch with Kotaro Shimura after Nana’s death, and was able to report Tenko as a missing persons to All Might before AFO could abduct him. All Might ended up raising Tenko, and never got into his near-death fight with AFO
While not in dire need of a successor, AFO still found himself in a prime opportunity to acquire one, as a just encase. Izuku Midoriya, quirkless, four years old, just recently got his tiny toddler ass handed to him by the person he looked up to as a hero and best friend, laying alone in a park covered in bruises.
A perfect specimen.
Under AFO’s manipulation and grooming, Izuku was raised with a growing hatred of false heroes, like Kacchan, heroes who pick on the weak and only want power and money for themselves. Bad heroes, toxic specs on the world. He could change that.
Being quirkless makes Izuku a perfect host for All For One if the time may come, as until then he can train himself to take and swap quirks as he needs them, focusing on learning a new ability as fast and with as little damage to himself as possible. He’s best with hand to hand combat quirks, Strength being one he uses the most.
Izuku is very smart, training himself he quickly outshined AFO’s expectations at a much younger age than Tenko did in canon. At 14 he was perfectly capable of fighting and planning on his own. He still has stacks and stacks of hero journals.
Despite being a villain, Izuku actually spends a lot of his time playing Vigilante, being a hero truly out to just do good. He always keeps a smile on his face, like his hero, All Might!
He’s a lot like Nice Guy from Vigilantes, actually, just a lot more territorial.
These are his streets, his neighborhoods. He won’t stand for villain causing trouble for his people. Sure the league needs members, but do they really need a couple of petty thieves? Does the world need a couple of petty thieves?
Be sure to dispose of your burnables properly.
This AU would canon divert fast, and the first official League attack against UA would actually be at the entrance ceremony, because Izuku couldn’t stand the idea of Bakugo going to his school, stealing his dream of being a hero.
He doesn’t stay for long, as much as he’d love to show Kacchan how much strong Deku has gotten, he didn’t want to tussle with All Might. Much to early to face the final boss. So he simply announced the League of Villains would be back, and vanished.
I don’t have a lot of the middle part from here to late season 3, so I apologize for lack of further detail on the USJ and Training Camp incidents.
However, a major change here is Izuku would get along with Stain very well actually! Giving the chance for Stain to join the League and stick around, and their plans are very inline. They want real heroes, heroes like All might.
On top of that, Izuku would not, even for a second, consider allowing Overhaul into the league, or teaming up with him at all. He already knew who Overhaul was when Twice brought him, and he instantly sent him packing. Meaning Magne is still alive and Compress still has his arm! Big win!
With that as well, Izuku would actually still be the one to save Eri, but not as a villain. He’s the secret mastermind behind the raid, he send clues to Sir Nighteye’s agency, and even turned himself in to Sir Nighteye to tell him directly what is happening to Eri. For full immunity, he promises the League’s full cooperation and knowledge on the Shie Hassaikai’s dealings, all to save that little girl.
I really like messing with Villain Izuku as a Chaotic good type. He’s twisted, and has certainly done some murder at a much too young age, but he’s still a kid. Barely 15, running around trying to be the hero he always wanted to be.
I don’t have a good way to end this post. Send some asks if you wanna know more about chaotic good Izuku Shigaraki or how anyone else is doing in this au.
Thanks for reading my very rambly AU post.

My Hero Academia question (manga 304): What do you think about Izuku Midoriya being the last sucessor of One For All? What do you think about the One For All "drawbacks" ? Do you expect that My Hero Academia will end soon? My Hero Academia will never have sequels after this? Why Nana Shimura wants Izuku to kill Tomura Shigaraki?
Oh my, give me a sec here.
1. I had my suspicions it’s gonna be the case actually. And I’m not against the idea? Ok technically Deku still has a tiniest chance to pass it but I can imagine it only in life-death situation and not to save himself but someone else. Low chance for that. (Also we’ve seen it in the movie, I doubt Hori will go for the same move)
If you allow me to speculate I’d bet Izuku will lose some of his powers, or won’t be able to unlock the rest. (Or unlocks it in the best dramatic moment👀) but in the end he just won’t be able to wield all variety of previous holders quirks) the reasons may vary (Shiggy/afo steals it, bullets, sacrifice for smth) but I guess the message in the end is gonna be smth like “even not being op you still can be the great hero” you know?
The society and hero system is about to change and in this new world you don’t have to be on AM level to be a great and stable pillar, to win and save ppl in need. To provide comfort and security. Also I’d say the point is he won’t be alone. Izuku has friends he can rely on.
So Midoriya being the last successor fits hero quite good.
Tumblr media
2.
Drawbacks as in “oh, dude you’re so lucky you were quirkless or you’d be probably dead by 20?”
Well, how convenient for our broccoli boy:) his weakness turned out to be the best thing what could ever happened to him, he should call his mom and ramble about it for a couple of hours. Also to all the losers who were laughing at him in the middle school “bite me suckers”
3. Well, Hori said that THE END IS NEAR. Guess we gonna have our final battle and then maybe a flashback to their future as heroes. (Pls don’t make it like 700 chapter of naruto that I still pretend don’t exist) but “near” is a vague concept, we still have a lot of mystery to reveal, even more after ch304 (WHO ARE YOU, DUDES PLS TURN AROUND) so I’d say we’re save for now. And again, speaking about Naruto it’s kinda still present even now bc why not to make more money, right? So yeah I think even after the end we’re gonna get something like spin-off or just some light novels.
The problem is, even if I adore this manga so much, the content that will follow after the end can potentially destroy all the sweet memories especially in hands of not Hori but someone else. So I have kinda mixed feelings about it.
4. To answer this i think we should wait for the next chapter. But I’ll tell you this. Not everything is just black and white. Even the whole ofa thing... I just can’t shake off the gut feeling that there is some drama here, waiting to punch us in the guts. What we perceive as pure good can actually be not so... clean? I’m not saying Nana is a bad person at all. For her this request seems quite ok maybe bc come on we have to save the country, we should see the whole picture and what is one in comparison to the whole world right? Everything depends on perspective.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 49 “One for All”
mysterylover123
Feels. All of the feels.
Tumblr media
The first time I binged through the entire arc, I went and looked up the episode names. And I say that 49 was called “One for All”. From that title alone, I got…I got chills. We’re doing this. This episode again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Nana Shimura and Young All Might oh my god.
Tumblr media
Hey look Todomomo on their own yay!
Tumblr media
“You guys didn’t save me” Yeah say whatever you need to say buddy we all know the truth.
Tumblr media
That shot of All Might is just…wow. Todoroki isn’t the only 1/2 and 1/2.
Tumblr media
Stop shit talking Nana you SOB she was amazing I know nothing about her other than her design and that she’s All Might’s mater but already know she’s amazing and I’d die for her.
Tumblr media
Man, Gran Torino grabbing All Might like this reminds me that once upon a time, he was a dad-figure and Toshi was just a kid, like Deku. He seems so young and immature in this scene.
Tumblr media
All Might has to use tactics if he really wants to win this. In other words, he has to take a leaf out of his prodigy’s book.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
All these poor panicking babies watching the World’s #1 hero slowly crumbling on TV…
Tumblr media
That brilliant visual for the stakes, spreading out across the world. You can, in fact, put the world in danger, without having it crack in two thanks to a super weapon.
Tumblr media
oh shit oh shit oh shit
Tumblr media
HOLY CRAP HE ACTUALLY DID IT (Approximation of my first reaction). He actually exposed that truth onscreen. To the whole world.
Tumblr media
THAT FACE. THAT FACE.
Tumblr media
Izuku my baby no
Tumblr media
But All Might is so awesome because he’s still going (while wearing the infinity gauntlet apparently)
Tumblr media
“My spirit” that shot composition is brilliant that’s what really makes this sow so darn untouchable. Everything about it just works.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“I’ll never give in. You killed Nana Shimura!” “No, Shimura is Tomura’s grandmother!” “No!!!!!” Someone likes him some Star Wars references.
Tumblr media
This might be the biggest dick move AFO has ever pulled. My god is he petty.
Tumblr media
Nana is officially The Best and I need her talking with Deku ASAP via OFA Avatar State.
Tumblr media
“WHAT HAVE I DONE NOOOOO!” (OMG THE ART OF THIS EP)
Tumblr media
Spirit Bomb energy. The power of this moment. The way everyone comes together, and rallies behind All Might, even though he can’t hear it, is just spectacular in the feels department.
Tumblr media
That shot just makes me - chills. All of the chills.
Tumblr media
Endeavor is just now realizing that he was a dick his whole life. This will set off something very, very controversial in the future. And I’ll say straight up: More power to it. As long as we’re not told that we or his family have to forgive him, which we’re not, a bad guy trying to be better can only do better things for the world, than if he stays a bastard his whole life. (BTW I just realized Tiger has Spinel powers. Holy crap).
Tumblr media
“Your students who want to be just like you” we all know who that is the feels won’t stop coming.
Tumblr media
WTF IS THAT (first response)
Tumblr media
AJSPHUIHRETIHGRZ
Tumblr media
IZUKU MIDORIYA. HOLY CRAP. HE KNOWS HE KNOWS OMG THIS IS THE BIGGEST SHOCK TO ME IN THIS ENTIRE EPISODE I CAN’T I CAN’T
Tumblr media
Feels reaching their maximum level! Deku saved All Might. He gave him the will, the reason to keep going. Against all odds. Against all the dangers coming coming his way, All Might finds something to live for, in his need to protect Deku. To do as his master did.
Tumblr media
That freaking imagery. This show. the visuals. This scene.
Tumblr media
“I REFUSE TO DIE”
Tumblr media
Hey guess who’s learned from his protege how to fake people out by breaking his arms and his body guess who is now the best ever because of that I can’t
Tumblr media
US OF SMASH OST PLAYING. HERE IT IS HERE IT COMES. THAT OFA ANIMATION I LOVE IT IT’S THE BEST
Tumblr media
GOODBYE AFO
Tumblr media Tumblr media
UNITED STATES OF SMAAAAAAASSSHHHH!!!!!!
Tumblr media
FAREWELL OFA
Tumblr media
This will be and is the stuff of legends.
Tumblr media
I’m done I’m in tears this is too much
Tumblr media
NOW ITS YOUR TURN. Just about sums it up, doesn’t it?
Tumblr media
Deku’s crying I’m done I will cry now.
You know how I mentioned in the Episode 23 review that there are three episodes of BNHA that transcend? This is the second. The second really, really big one, almost impossible to top. Episode 49 is rightfully praised and regarded as one of the best, strongest and most incredible bits in all of HeroAca. Though I’ll just add: Of the Big 3 grand episodes, it’s probably my third favorite. Still a-freaking-mazing, but…of the three, the third strongest…is still one hell of a position to hold.
BKDK CORNER
Tumblr media
MY GOD IN UNISON! YOU TWO ARE SO IN SYNC IT’S CRAZY.
Tumblr media
“Now it’s your turn” Kacchan KNOWS. This episode does set up the future DVK2. But that does speak to the crucial nature BKDK plays in the overarching narrative. Even in this moment, as the torch is officially, finally passed to Deku, we’re reminded that he’s not alone. The underlying tragedy in the story of All Might, and one-for-All, I believe, is that the wielder is always, tragically, doomed to walk alone, as a symbol and a wielder, isolated (Nana had to give up her child and lost her husband, All Might has been destroyed by it), and thus, finds themselves in a position where once they’re gone, things go back to how they were before. Like the Slayer’s tragedy in Buffy. But BNHA is ultimately a story about how Deku will not be taking this up alone. He’ll have Kacchan. To a secondary but no less important extent, all of 1-A, yes. But he and Katsuki…now, it’s their turn.
BEST GIRL OF THE EP: NANA SHIMURA!!!
RANKER: Favorite Hero Vs Villain Mono y Monos in BNHA
5. Uraraka vs Toga
4. Mirio vs Overhaul (Deku fights him with Eri’s help so it’s not exactly a 1 on 1)
3. All Might vs Nomu
2. Deku vs Muscular
1. All Might vs All for One (duh)

Happy Birthday, Eri!
[Before we begin appreciating the unicorn child, here's a little skit...]
Me: I have a meticulous schedule for my fanfictions so that I can focus on them without it overwhelming my real life responsiblities-
@rex101111: It's my birthday tomorrow!
Me: ...fudge.
[A few weeks later...]
Me: Okay, so my schedule might have experienced a bit of a curve ball, but who cares? Rex had a good birthday, and I got to practice writing! It's a win-win. Besides, now I can continue focusing on the rest of my sche-
Rex101111: Eri's birthday is coming up!
Me: ...so the schedule is just a guideline now.
[No shade on you, Rex! I still adore you!]
So yeah, today is Eri's birthday, so I made a fic. Check it out here:
Of course, some of you might remember the whole "Multiverse Shenanigans" I've been doing for a while (even before Rex's birthday fic), and since I probably won't get the time to properly flesh them out in fic, I figured I might as well give a guideline here. Fair warning: the list is long!
Eri (aka Prime Eri, from My Hero Academia)
She needs no explanation. She's small, she's pure, and we all love her as much as she loves apples.
Eri (aka Eri Midoriya, from My Vigilante: Illegal Hero Dekiru)
Same as Prime Eri, but her hair is dyed green. Her Izuku saved her from Overhaul before the events of cannon, so she's a lot more cheerful and confident than Prime Eri. She also learns how to use a sword after Christmas, because she's as reckless as her vigilante brother.
Eri (from My Villain: Deku)
This Eri has her hair dyed blonde, as a tribute to Mirio (and possibly All Might). Her Izuku is a villain, but he eventually renounced the title after he put his life on the line for her during the Shie Hassaikai raid. At her request, this Izuku took her quirk (he's got All For One, btw) and gave her a healing quirk instead, so she doesn't have her horn. She's a bit more subdued compared to prime Eri, but she's just as kind.
Eri (from the DadMight AU)
This Eri lives in a world where All Might is Izuku's biological father. Since most of the characters are simply updated version of previous heroes (Ochako succeeds Thirteen, Hitoshi succeeds Eraserhead, Kyoka succeeds Mic, etc.), Eri actually takes after Overhaul in this AU. She even has his black hair and yellow eyes (she also lacks a horn), with a cuter version of the bird mask and even Overhaul's quirk. Overhaul himself actually has some genuine affection towards this Eri (he's probably an uncle or something actually related to her in this AU), but since he's a bastard, he tries to brainwash Eri to only trust and be loyal to him, which really takes a toll on her. Unfortunately for Overhaul, Izuku runs into Eri, and upon seeing what actual concern and affection look like, she ultimately decides to break away from Overhaul (since Eri doesn't have Rewind in this AU, the Yakuza's plan was to capture Eraserhead). She wears green gloves to remind her of Izuku and to keep her from using her Quirk, which reminds her of Overhaul.
Juto (from the Y-Squad)
And now we start to meet the teen Eris. This Eri happens to be a 10th holder of One For All. She's often recognizable by her red-colored replica of Izuku's hero costume. Her original home was in a fallen timeline where villains grew to powerful and killed off the heroes. Izuku ended up passing OFA onto Eri shortly before he was murdered by Overhaul. To make matters worse, Eri was also kidnapped and brainwashed into becoming one of Overhaul's enforcers. Luckily, a group of dimension hoppers (led by an alternate version of Izuku) ended up crashing into that particular dimension. That Izuku (dubbed "Y") gave Overhaul a sound beating before undoing Juto's brainwashing, and allowing her to join their party. She spends her days traversing the multiverse with her new family, whom she swears to protect.
Eri (aka Teen Eri, from Lost Cause)
This is a minor spoiler for those who read my Lost Cause fanfiction. She's basically the same as Prime Eri, but she's older. Once she gets saved by Izuku and co., Eri takes after Eraserhead, using a black jumpsuit and two capture weapons wrapped around her wrist. She's on her way to becoming a promising Pro Hero in the future...
Jikan (from Shift of Fate)
I've had the concept of Jikan in my head for a while. She's identifiable by her signature white suit and cloak. She comes from a world where she, Izuku, and Tenko are all the same age. Early on, Izuku saved Tenko from a villain attack, leaving Inko to raise Tenko while Izuku was unwittingly kidnapped by the League of Villains. Unfortunately, the Shie Hassaikai happen to be one of the League's benefactors, so instead of Tomura Shigaraki, All For One's successor is Erika Chisaki, possessing both the Rewind and Decay Quirk. (Sidenote: Tenko was born with decay, but AFO stole it and gave it to Eri, so she usually has to keep both of her Quirks active in order for them to cancel one another out.) Luckily for Erika, Izuku is both friendly and stubborn, so he manages to start breaking down Erika's brainwashing. She doesn't fully break free until Kamino Ward, where Eri finally reclaims her real name and her Quirks mutates into a single Quirk: Chronokinesis. She teams up with Izuku (who was given the Quirks Teleport, Analysis, and Insomniac) and Tenko (now the 9th Wielder of OFA) to kick the League's ass. She now lives happily with her adoptive brothers under the protection of UA.
Canary (from Second Chance)
This Eri comes from a timeline where the Yakuza Raid failed, killing Izuku and Nighteye and turning Mirio into OFA's 10th holder. Overhaul becomes even more of an asshole, and Eri becomes all the more broken. However, Mirio manages to track them down, finally defeating Overhaul and rescuing Eri. The first few days after Eri's rescue, she thinks that this is a cruel dream she'll wake up from. When she realizes that's not the case, she bursts into tears, hugging Mirio and sobbing all the while. Izuku's ghosts looks fondly at the pair, keeping an eye on the both of them since the raid.
Welp, that's all the time I got! Let me know if you want to see more Dimensional Variants like these. And once again, Happy Birthday Eri!
P.S. Check out Rex's fic for her birthday. It's really good!

“Bakugou no Hero Academia” roleswap part 4 (sorry for the delay)
So now we come to the Summer Training Camp!
Katsuki is all for Kouta’s treatment of Izuku until he turns it on him too, then it’s war
Katsuki stop you can’t fight a child
Things really don’t change that much during the villain’s invasion actually. Except for the mountain fight for Izuku being less about him defeating his opponent and more trying to get down the mountain as quick as possible with him and Kouta unmaimed. Which ends with Muscular being not captured and still with the main villain group. Whoops.
The villains still go after Katsuki though, mainly because Bakugou is still our lovable angry puffball and seemingly malleable enough for them to use as a pawn, and Tomura is sure that he’s connected to All Might (Beacause what better way to hurt the Symbol of Peace than turning his own disciple against him (And then murdering both of course))
That’s when things turn pear-shaped because when they try to leave with him and he refuses Izuku’s help like canon, Izuku basically grabs him and pulls him out, falling into Kurogiri’s portal as a result.
Now Katsuki is injured, angry, and guilt-ridden as the Pro-Heroes scramble try to find Izuku while dealing with the media circus that’s bloomed in the wake of the incident as Kirishima mounts his secret rescue team to go save him themselves.
AU Rescue Team (Sans Katsuki) Consists of: Kirishima, Uraraka, Momo, Tokoyami, and Todoroki.
Naturally, Katsuki refuses because he’s certain they’re just going to get in the way of the Pros and make things worse ( “They already have their hands full trying to save Deku’s dumb ass, how do you think you’re going to help by adding yours in? All you’d do is give those bastards four new hostages!”). They need to stay out of it and give the Heroes and their teachers time to find him.
Of course, Todoroki casually points out Izuku might not have time to wait to be rescued - The villains were originally after Katsuki after all, which means Tomura will be pissed that they brought the wrong kid, and he doubts they’ll keep Izuku around or alive for long if they don’t see any use or value for him (Which he feels is guaranteed with what an unstable nutjob Tomura comes off as and how their new members were out for blood.)
The back and forth eventually leads into an argument on whether Katsuki’s refusing because he doesn’t think they can help Izuku or because it’s about helping Izuku, and Katsuki explodes because how fucking dare you - He might have complicated feelings about Izuku but that didn’t mean he wants him to be in danger. He never did - never wanted to, wanted this to happen because once again, Katsuki was too weak, to much of a “loser” to do anything, and had to be saved, again
After it seems like they can’t convince him, the groups just goes to save Izuku themselves
and collectively lose it when Katsuki shows up at the train station, waiting for them.
“I’m not here to help” he says, as he proceeds to cash in for train fare, help Momo pay for disguises, assist Uraraka with her costume (Fancy delinquent clothes are very complicated), walks with them to the warehouse, orginizes the group when AFO shows up, and help Izuku escape.
Speaking of Izuku, Todoroki was not wrong about Tomura getting angry at his interference because when they finally get to him, he’s a little...worse for wear. Alive yeah, but...
Izuku and Katsuki say absolutely nothing to each other for the entire night after All Might’s last battle except for when the police find them and Izuku tells him “Thanks”
Inko’s a lot harder to convince on letting Izuku continue at UA because boy howdy does she have a meltdown hearing her son was kidnapped by villains, and during an event where he was suppose to be safe and surrounded by pro-heroes.
Mitsuki and Masuru are a bit more hesitant because while Bakugou has definitely grown from his time at UA for the better, constantly hearing about your son consistently putting himself into the Infirmary and getting injured enough to require a hospital trip/surgery twice is not something that inspires confidence in a school’s ability to protect your kid.
Izuku’s trauma with being kidnapped and being indirectly responsible for All Might having to retire because he was weak, he was useless, he messed up at the worse time definitely shows when he meets back up with the rest of Class 1A because where Katsuki keeps his heart under the surface, Izuku wears his own right on his sleeve. He withdraws, spends more time in his room, overworks himself, and it’s very obvious he isn’t sleeping well (or at all). And no one knows what to say, because what do you say when something like that happens to a classmate.
Katsuki on the other hand, goes the opposite direction - All Might’s retired now because he lost, he was too weak, he messed up at the worse time and now Katsuki has to move forward, he can’t be stuck where he is while the world crumbles under it’s own weight without a pillar of good. He has to win, has to improve so he can step on stage as the new number one hero and pick up where All Might left off. So Bakugou trains, he studies, he tries to interact with his classmates. And no one says anything, because they don’t get what’s happening and don’t know how to deal with what he’s doing.
And that’s all i have for now thank’s for reading

BnHA Ch.358 - Review, parallels & comparisons
This week brings us a ‘greatest hits’ of Bakugo-isms plus some delightful new ones. Nutsack face, Swiss cheese, droning/yapping on are the classics, and now we get “handy-man,” and “about to hurl.” I love getting such individuality from a character, especially in the face of AFO proclaiming “all will be equal!” If there’s any character wholly against forced conformity, it’s Bakugo. This chapter really shows how deeply he understands that multiple individuals, with their own strengths and weaknesses, can contribute to something great. He’s even got Mirko grinning about teamwork!
However, it still feels like there’s something missing. Bakugo is showing respect to his teammates (no nicknames!), and he’s saying “I’ve long since taken all that crap to heart” about accepting his weakness… but he seems intent on destroying AFO!Shigaraki. His attitude towards Shigaraki hasn’t really changed (as of this chapter) from Kamino or the war. But wait — didn’t Bakugo “save to win” in the war by moving without thinking to save Izuku? Yup, and Izuku is a HERO. A fellow hero and a childhood friend. And when Bakugo got “character development” in the Joint Training Arc, who did he save? Jiro, his TEAMMATE. Bakugo has not yet tried to understand or save an enemy. A villain. The closest we got was with Aoyama, but even then Bakugo seemed to focus on Aoyama’s strategic use to the heroes.
With that in mind, let’s walk through the potential next steps in Bakugo vs Shigaraki after the cut.
1. BAKUGO WINS AND BLASTS AFO!SHIG TO BITS.
A. Tomura and AFO start to separate. AFO doesn’t take kindly to this and lashes out.
B. AFO regenerates and takes over Tomura further, accelerating his remodeling into the perfect body.
C. AFO!Shig’s body dies, causing Classic!AFO in Gunga to lash out (Tenko is still there in the vestige world).
2. BAKUGO PARALLELS SECOND AND REACHES OUT TO TENKO.
A. If he succeeds, then they can work together to go after Classic!AFO. But honestly, I don’t know what this would look like right after 358. How can reaching out a hand at this point save Tenko underneath AFO’s suppression? We’d need some interim chapters to get us there.
B. If he fails, he’s within reach of AFO!Shig, meaning Bakugo is in danger of being injured. I don’t know if AFO!Shig can take his quirk as long as Erasure is in effect. I assume the base AFO quirk is suppressed by Erasure, but the way AFO!Shig says “the more the All for One quirk takes root within me, the more my body adapts” makes me wonder if he can steal a quirk EVEN IF Erasure is working. That leads us to….
3. BAKUGO LOSES AND AFO!SHIG INJURES HIM OR TAKES HIS QUIRK. Yep, it could happen. But. BUT. What happens when Explosion is inside AFO, giving Bakugo access to the vestige realm? What if that’s exactly what Izuku and All Might need?
Ok, switching gears, let’s talk about AFO for a second, because him yapping takes up a lot of space in this chapter. First, he co-opts Shigaraki’s speech from Ch.282, telling Bakugo that all that awaits the current world is destruction. But AFO and Shigaraki meant very different things. Shigaraki was ranting against the hero system that created a cycle of civilians dependent on heroes, heroes that encouraged passivity amongst civilians, and “villians” who didn’t fit in. The pillar has fallen and the destruction of this system IS inevitable.
Tumblr media
AFO is different. He wants to destroy the whole world and make his own, with everything under his control so he can live forever, toying with people and mixing quirks in eternity. There won’t be heroes or villains anymore, but there won’t be free societies either. No capitalism, no socialism. Just AFO as the singularity and whatever elements exist outside of that singularity. (I wrote a separate post here about AFO’s peculiar focus on physical differences.)
Tumblr media
Luckily, we’ve already seen the counter argument from Izuku to another villain who believed there was no hope for a status quo. The reason AFO has followers and true believers is that he’s RIGHT about a world of nuance and individuality being complicated to navigate. It’s easy to get lost amongst the shades of grey. AFO’s world of “mine” and “not mine” is transparent and easy to understand. But is it freedom? Is it a world worth living in? As Izuku shows Nagant, the solution is to avoid anything that reduces the world to black and white. Keep the world of complex tones, and work harder to bridge that lack of understanding.

BNHA Rewatch: Two Heroes
mysterylover123
And before we start Season 3, one more road stop: The Big Freaking Movie, Two Heroes, last year’s surprise anime blockbuster and HeroAca’s first excursion onto the big screen. Time to share my thoughts and rewatch this very entertaining film!
Tumblr media
We open with bald eagles, deserts, and cowpoke themes, to make sure we know we’re in America. We fly into “California” which looks more like Las Vegas (not really complaining, I loooove that they picked my hometown state for this) to find young, white schlera eye-having All Might and his hunky bro David Shield kicking ass and taking names. My state’s name, to be precise.
Tumblr media
Some exposition follows, basically recapping the premise of HeroAca, as I’m reminded of what a stroke of genius Hori had when he decided to make the MC an easy expositor thanks to his geeky knowledge of all things Hero. Deku will always be Captain Exposition.
Tumblr media
Melissa! She’s fun and adorable and amazing, and I just love that the first HeroAca movie chooses to focus on a geeky, kind and energetic lady.
Deku looking back and forth between Melissa’s breasts and All Might’s crotch belt is peak Bi energy.
Tumblr media
I’m so jealous that Melissa gets to touch Deku’s hand.
Tumblr media
Melissa describing All Might as someone David ‘loves’ is just throwing away all pretence of his heterosexuality, if it ever existed. How the hell did this guy end up with a kid?
Tumblr media
Deku blushing around and enthusing over both Melissa and David is max bi energy.
Tumblr media
Uraraka’s Annoying Crush Counter: 5
Tumblr media
But I’m glad the girls are here! The Bones animators clearly know well what the fanbase wants to see, choosing to give all 6 class 1-A girls at least a cameo in the film, and three of them involved in the main plot. I especially love that, despite being initially pitted against each other, Uraraka and Melissa develop a bit of a womance in the film. OchaLissa ship!
Tumblr media
My one major regret about this film is that Mineta is included in the Main Cast. I wish either Mina or Tsuyu had come along for the ride instead - one, they’re better, more lovable characters who could do the same job he does, and two, then we’d have a nearly gender-even cast! (6 Boys: Deku, Katsuki, Tenya, Shoto, Kiri, Kaminari; 5 Girls: Ochaco, Momo, Jiro, Melissa, Mina or Tsu).
Tumblr media
Kacchan makes his appearance! This bit was leaked online before the film’s release and drew quite a lot of ire from BKDK shippers and Bakugo fans. I’m mostly annoyed that Deku is acting OOC here; this is Post-Final Exam Deku, post Hero Killer Deku. Would the guy who punched All Might in the face and Bakugo in the face and the Hero Killer in the face be cowering in fear behind Iida, the guy whose life he saved, from the guy he, only a few weeks ago, punched in the face?! Badass Deku Rights!
Tumblr media
Ooh a wild Todobaku moment! I always love when they bicker. Or rather, Katsuki bickers and Shoto ignores him.
OH NO you cannot slap me with the Ingenium OST theme and hardcore feels out of nowhere! God this scene is heartbreaking. I love, however, the cut to the whole of Class 1-A and Melissa when they talk about the future.
Tumblr media
AH Bakugo’s feet! Why are we staring up his crotch? So this movie has a lot of KiriBaku scenes, and I should probably talk about them a little, since their friendship is a big deal in S3. They’re the only major HeroAca ship I’ve never shipped as a romantic pairing, per se. Like, in this scene, I see Kiri as Katsuki’s wingman, his bro, the guy who teases him about his obvious feelings from someone, not as the guy he has feelings for.
Tumblr media
And for Kiri’s sake, I kinda dislike making him basically Bakugo’s sidekick. He willingly hangs out with the guy, when he wants to, in canon, he doesn’t follow him around and become the butt of the joke, and he has lots of other relationships in canon to draw from, so this dynamic between them doesn’t appeal to me.
Tumblr media
Melissa being a quirkless kid like Deku is a great idea for the film, especially since she and David still find a way to help others. They’re a brighter image of the person Izuku could have been.
Tumblr media
Full Gauntlet is pretty cool
Tumblr media
Everyone dresses up pretty! The movie suits/dresses are awesome and (almost) everyone looks great. Why Deku is wearing a baggy zoot-suity mess is beyond me, but hey, he sheds it pretty quickly so I’m not complaining.
Tumblr media
If by ‘female assassin’ you mean Beauty Queen. Jiro is gorgeous.
Tumblr media
OK the plot ensues! Darn, I could’ve easily enjoyed a movie that was just everyone hanging out and goofing off...ah well, I still love what we got.
This villain does what neither Tomura nor All for One could ever do! Subdue All Might! My god he’s a criminal mastermind!
Tumblr media
Deku wants to help, and everyone but Shoto basically piles on the bandwagon afterwards. “And me!” “And me!” “Me too!” “And Me” “Nobody cares Mineta.” I like how they bring up the Powers dilemma, since that’s a big deal in Season 3.
I was pretty impressed by the amount of level grinding our heroes had to do to make it to the top floor. 200 freaking floors, that’s impressive.
Tumblr media
Todoroki saved Bakugo! Yay! BTW I love all the tactical planning stuff in this portion, and how lots of characters get to contribute.
Tumblr media
10 little superheroes, trying to save the day. Two got lost and then there were eight.
Tumblr media
8 little superheroes, escaping from the garden. One saved the others and then there were seven.
Tumblr media
7 little superheroes running against the sea, four were trapped by robots and then there were three. (i don’t count mineta).
Tumblr media
Three little superheroes, reached the top and flew; one had to float them so then there were two. (she’s fine, Bakugo saved her. Save to win!)
Two little superheroes, faced with a gun. One fell out the window and then there was - never mind, she saved him, he’s fine.
That was fun. Anyway, to sum, the group gets split up as they work to get to the top, leaving only Deku and Melissa to reach the final boss dungeon. Highlights include the usual Kamijiro bantering, Todobaku making an awesome combat move, Uraraka standing against the coming onslaught of robots in a weirdly dramatic scene, and Reciproburst.
Tumblr media
Dislikes include Kirishima being portrayed as not much use and kind of stupid (c’mon, he can do better than that!) and Uraraka not getting to kick any real ass other than floating Melissa and Deku.
Tumblr media
So we make it to Dramatic Plot Twist Tower and find out that David set up the whole thing. I joke, but I actually didn’t see this coming the first time around and was genuinely surprised. I also think it fits really well with the story they’re telling here: about trying to hold onto the past and forgetting to look to the future. I usually measure good plot twists in terms of how they change the story, characters and themes, and this one does.
On the other hand, Sam betraying him is just kind of silly. “Oh no, not...that guy!”
Tumblr media
The villain being named Wolfram makes me wonder if there are any secret Buffyverse fans on Bones’ writing staff. With the next movie’s villain be named Hart?
I love how Melissa is a quirkless character who gets to save the day every bit as much as the powered ones. Also, Deku is freaking awesome in this scene, ngl. It has vibes of his fight with Muscular, that “pinned by an unstoppable wall” thing.
Tumblr media
And this has vibes of Deku vs Overhaul trying to save Eri. OMG S4 IS GONNA KILL ME. Anyway Deku tries really really hard to save David Shield and does lots of cool leaps and gets beaten up while doing it, enough to earn some of Wolfram’s respect, but is unable to. Fortunately...
Tumblr media
Watashi Ga Kita!
But then...duh duh duh! Wolfram has that power-enhancer-plot MacGuffin! Actually, it’s not a MacGuffin now, because now we the audience kind of care about it. It has weight, it’s significant. The characters care about it, but there’s more to it than just being an interchangeable object.
Tumblr media
I LOVE how they animated the metal on this guy. That’s Metalbending. OMG.
Class 1-A showing up and kicking ass as always. I just wanna quibble for a second with how this movie uses Howitzer Impact: a giant mind-blowing explosion in manga canon, a small underwhelming fizzle here.
Tumblr media
DUH DUH DUH DRAMATIC PLOT TWIST. Again this one floored me the first time around. My jaw actually dropped when AFO’s theme started playing. Holy crap WHAH How what how. I’m not as excited about this plot twist, as it basically just happens for the sake of being shocking, but hey, that is clearly something AFO would do, and I like seeing him and hearing his theme here anyway, so who cares. Just roll with it!
Tumblr media
And now, the reason this movie was made and the premise behind it. We never, in the canon of the manga, actually get to see All Might and Deku fight the same villain at the same time, so the movie I think was made for that purpose: DOUBLE DELAWARE DETROIT SMASH + YSR
Tumblr media
OH YOU SAY RUN. You could soundtrack a scene of people sitting around staring at the wall and turn it into the most epic thing ever. I will never get tired of this beautiful, peerless, impossibly good composition. And this is honestly one of my favorite YSR scenes, because dayum, you can’t get much cooler than the Double DD smash.
Tumblr media
Visual storytelling here is on point. David Shield’s image of All Might turning into Deku is perfect.
We end on a sunrise, fittingly, and Long Hope Philia sountracked credits - with a small bit of depressing to end on, as we see David is probably gonna get arrested and All Might can’t do nothing about it.
Two Heroes is great. My quibbles with it are all minor. It’s the perfect first movie for BNHA; it is big and bombastic and action-packed, but more important, it gets what MHA is about at it’s core. BNHA is a story about the prior generation of heroes (and villains) passing the torch down to the next one. You know, like how teachers pass info onto their students in Academia. The movie gets that, and it delivers it with aplomb. It’s a great script, every scene and moment is necessary and everything happens in the right place and right order. It’s a thrill to watch, and I can’t even begin to imagine what insane stuff they’re gonna put in Movie #2 BKDK Boogaloo. Starting S3 tomorrow!
BKDK CORNER:
Tumblr media
On a rewatch, I’m a little more OK with this scene, because Deku pretty quickly bucks up and takes the challenge - and he doesn’t exactly cower from Kacchan, Iida just gets in the way. I also love that gay sounding “Kacchan, people are watching!” line in the sub.
Tumblr media
All of Deku’s Love interests where white flowers on their fancy wear.
Tumblr media
NGL this is my favorite part of the movie. That is the sweetest, softest, most endearing smile Bakugo has ever had, and Todoroki seeing it and smirking is just perfect. Baku is peak Tsundere in this scene.
RANKER: The Formal Wear
Girls:
4. Momo - I like the tiara, and the dress is kind of a nice color.
3. Melissa - pretty but a little birthday cake-y.
2. Ochaco - Very cute and well-tailored. The tights really sell it.
1. Jiro - unconventional is the winner of the day here.
Boys:
6. Izuku - Deku where the f did you get that suit? Take it off, please. Why is your taste in clothing so bad.
5. Kirishima - it’s ok, but a little generic.
4. Kaminari - the waiter look isn’t half bad on him
3. Iida - sharp dressed, of course. It looks nice!
2. Todoroki - perfectly handsome, and of course his suit is white.
1. Bakugo - that vest tho. damn.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 38 “Encounter”
mysterylover123
S2 ends with a casual trip to the mall. Nothing else to see here, no siree.
Tumblr media
It’s odd for Tomura to designate the “types he hates most” when he hates basically everything. Anyways, Dabi and Toga! aka TotallyNotToya and Yandere Best Girl. Tomura slinks off to go pout in his room like a spoiled child. It’s almost funny.
Tumblr media
NO KAMI HANDS OUT OF DEKU’S EYES!!!!
Tumblr media
May I just say it is a great injustice that Sero was failed and Mineta passed. Sero tried to save the little creep. Justice for Sero!
Tumblr media
Another Rational Deception! Iida is outraged - how will we ever trust anything you say again?  I wonder if he’s channeling the fanbase here.
Tumblr media
Deku inviting Shoto to join them is a Tododeku classic. (Also, BTW, there’s an audio drama where Todoroki and Bakugo, after blowing off Class 1-A antics, run into each other and get stuck together by a villain’s quirk. It’s hilarious, and clearly self-aware about fans shipping them).
Tumblr media
OMG DATTE ATASHI NO HIRO IS PLAYING! i guess because they don’t play the ED in this ep. Ah well. Shopping! Iida getting nervous about buying the right kind of shoes!
Tumblr media
Tokoyami, being one of Deku’s many spouses, is rebuking him for scaring strangers with his odd behavior.
Tumblr media
Ho boy. This stuff. To fully convey the boredom/annoyance that I feel every time this show decides to replay the same damn scene with Ochaco over the next freaking season, I’m going to start up a “Uraraka Crush Counter”. We had one last ep. Now we’re up to 2. The counter goes off every time Uraraka 1) is made by someone to wonder if she has a thing for Deku 2) freaks out and 3) doesn’t actually answer the freaking question.
Tumblr media
AAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!
I will say I kinda ship it. For Tomura’s sake, of course, not Deku’s. But he does find so much clarity from this one conversation with Izuku, and he’s definitely a character who could use a real hero in his life (me speaking as a manga reader who knows his backstory). Of course, not in a ‘endgame’ kinda way, and Tomura has plenty of LOV ships that are more fitting...but I do have a weak spot for Villain/Hero dynamics.
Tumblr media
HELLO DARKNESS MY OLD FRIEND
Tumblr media
Deku’s reaction to this is chillingly telling. He’s not concerned that Tomura is going to kill him. But with the idea that innocents around him are going to die...that gets him to cooperate. Deku’s complete disregard for his own life strikes again.
“So tell me about your childhood.” “Well, it all started with my shitty dad...”
Tumblr media
Does this count as a separate Uraraka Crush Counter? I’m gonna say yes. 3.
Tumblr media
Deku explains to Shigaraki quite well exactly what he’s missing: That pesky theme that’s been hanging around all season, MOTIVATION. Bakugo’s drive last ep to be the best. RG noting that Mineta wouldn’t survive at UA without a proper motivation in the Final Exam arc. The Hero Killer’s convictions, despite his evil, inspiring people. Everyone needing motivation to win in the Sports Festival. And Uraraka’s motive, right at the start of the season.
Tumblr media
The only one missing a clear motive, then, is Tomura. (Possibly because he doesn’t, deep down, really want to be a villain, but is stuck in that role anyway). But now, Deku gives him one. He gets it. Nice going Deku. (I’m just kidding with the sarcasm of course Deku you brave sweet best boy.)
Tumblr media
Tomura hand flashbacks no! MLA ARC FEELS!!!
Tumblr media
NO NOT MY DEKU!!!!
Tumblr media
“Is that a friend?” Wha Ochaco wtf do they look like friends? Tho it is Deku so you never know...
Tumblr media
“What’s All for one after?” This exchange - I have a theory: Tomura already knows that Deku is OFA9. He knows the whole deal. Hence why he’s so unsurprised by Izuku knowing about OFA, why he asks his advice, why he notices him especially. AFO figured it out and told him. That’s my theory.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We end S2 on a rather somber note, with Deku and mom bidding goodbye to All Might and his Cop Waifu Tsukauchi, as the latter two contemplate Toshinori’s future as a hero. No Datte atashi fantasy AU ED here; just soft, sad music as the credits role, and we transition into the somber and serious Season 3.
Season 2 of BNHA is, as I’ve said before, the most consistently strong single season of TV I’ve ever seen. Every episode is at least solid, and all three arcs are incredible overall. Season 1 is good but not Standout overall, season 3 has lower lows and higher highs. Still, NGL, I do look forward a little more to Season 3 (and that’s not just because it has Odd Future, I swear, totally not) and it’s huge, game-changing moments, because S2 is just the beginning. It’s a season about motivation, about laying the table and setting up the pieces. Season 3 is the one that knocks them all down.
But not to start s3 right away! The next few days I’ll be watching the stuff in between the 2 seasons instead.
BKDK CORNER:
Nothing in this episode per se, but this omake does answer the question I had after watching this for the first time: Why didn’t Bakugo freak out about Deku saving him?
Tumblr media
Answer: Ochaco
Tumblr media
Ooh boy I want to repost this whole Omake for the corner. Can I? Screw it, I will.
Tumblr media
I guess this one’s also a big Kacchako/Izuocha omake too, huh?
Tumblr media
Ochaco ships it I will not hear otherwise.
Tumblr media
Ooh “so cool” she really is becoming like Deku isn’t she?”
Tumblr media
You get it, Ochaco. You are an ally. Never think that I’m against you because you’re Deku’s ‘official’ Love interest or the storytelling of your crush is a little repetitive. ILU.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
SHE SHIPS IT SHE SHIPS IT
Tumblr media
“Behind my back, how could you? I’m disappointed in you too, Uraraka-san.”
Tumblr media
OMG She Freaking Did it! The one thing that would’ve made S2 better would be if it ended with this getting animated (It came out in July 2017, there could’ve been time to sneak it in! Please let there be a filler void in S4 so it can finally be animated)
BEST GIRL OF THE EPISODE: No new best girls this ep.
RANKER: Biggest Shock Moments in BNHA
5 “You got your quirk from All Might, didn’t you?” Episode 60
4 “Mirio has lost his quirk forever” Chapter 163
3 “Let’s have a chat, Izuku Midoriya?” Episode 38
2. “Tomura Shigaraki, my apprentice? He’s Nana Shimura’s Grandson.” Episode 49
1. “So you’re going to get...” Chapter 213, aka OFA 6Q.

BNHA Rewatch: Episode 29 “Hero Killer Stain vs UA Students”
mysterylover123
This is a great episode.
Tumblr media
So imagine you’ve never heard of BNHA and only heard a synopsis of this episode. Notice how you can figure out a lot about Midoriya’s character, just by learning how he manages to find Iida? By observing what kind of person he is, utilizing his knowledge of the Hero Killer’s tendencies, and deducing via process of elimination where he is. You get it. Smart, a little reckless, observant and self-sacrificing. That, my friend, is good writing.
Tumblr media
Endeavor’s introduction here is so jarring the first time you see it. He’s introduced the same way Midoriya is introduced when he finds Iida and Stain later on - saving the day at the last minute, saying he’s got this, and that he’s here as a hero. It’s this eerie contrast to the Endeavor in the audience’s mind, the monster who seems to justify Stain’s philosophy with his douchebaggery.
Tumblr media
Tomura asking AFO for Nomu like a kid asking a parent for more toys lol.
Tumblr media
“Ingenium is the name of a hero who will defeat you” Iida takes up his brother’s mantle...and is instantly defeated. For those playing the Major Theme Home game, this is the Imitation one. Blind Imitation in BNHA=Instant Death Ticket. And interestingly enough, Stain embodies this concept as well. Stain is someone who thinks everyone should imitate All Might’s style of heroism and nothing else. He enforces blind imitation.
Tumblr media
Yeesh. That looks painful.
Tumblr media
So trying to piece together why Stain thought Tensei was a fake hero is odd, since he’s such a standup guy. Iida’s flashback has Tensei revealing that he feels dependent on his sidekicks, and perhaps that’s the idea here: just like Tensei, Iida needs Todoroki and Midoriya’s support, but one of the series’ components of a great hero (eg All Might) is someone who can stand on their own. At the same time, Stain is kinda, you know, wrong, so it’s possible the series is not refuting the power of friendship with this, but rather advocating for it.
Tumblr media
Stain’s rebuke to Tenya also speaks about the other half of being a great hero - prioritizing rescue - that the series advocates. Iida is so fixated on killing Stain, he didn’t even notice that Stain was about to murder the pro-hero Native (presumably for being a fake hero who commits cultural appropriation), a mistake that Midoriya immediately counteracts when he arrives and notices Native, realizing he has to stick around to protect both Native and Iida.
Tumblr media
Speaking of...
Tumblr media
Deku is so sugoi. Seriously this entrance is one of the most badass moments in the series to me. It’s like, boom, give Deku a couple days working on his quirk, and he goes from a shy kid who’s scared to use his powers to a tough, confident badass who just buzzes in, bouncing off the walls, and socks a professional villain in the face.
Tumblr media
OMG THIS OST. I don’t know what it’s called. Someone tell me what it’s called, this is one of my favorite OSTs in the series.
Tumblr media
Stain recognizes him. Villain Love at First Sight! (I’m kidding, but seriously, I like how Stain actually respects Midoriya. It’s totally in character and makes perfect sense. It’s probably my favorite thing about Stain, actually - the way he can spot a true hero-in-training when he sees one).
Tumblr media
Deku’s on such a winning streak lately. Just...looking great, being great, doing great things.
Tumblr media
Stain’s eyes are, according to Deku ‘those of a fanatic’, compared to Tomura’s (there’s that Motivation theme again). Interestingly enough, Deku and Stain are both ‘fanatics’ about the same thing. Stain is a foil, an evil counterpart of Deku. The person he could’ve been if he allowed his idolization of All Might to take him too far.
Tumblr media
Iida tells Deku to basically leave him there to die. Deku’s response is so good that I just have to post it (the dub version here): “If you really believe that, then why are you trying to become a hero in the first place?...All Might was right, though. Meddling where you don’t need to is the essence of being a hero!”
Tumblr media
I’m with you, Stain. I’m with you.
Tumblr media
So we get this fight. While Deku’s taken out quickly, his strategy is still pretty cool. It’s so fun to watch him fight. Full Cowl is one of my favorite fight styles in anime.
Tumblr media
Deku does so amazing he’s so smart. Damn but Stain still gets him. Nonetheless, Stain isn’t about to kill his new Hero Crush, Symbol of Peace 2.0, so he leaves him struggling and goes to kill his Current Archnemesis, Ingenium 2.0. Only to be interrupted by...
Tumblr media
SQUEEE!!!! Also, the Tododeku is strong with this one. Sending messages like this isn’t Deku’s style, Shoto says. Aw!
Tumblr media
Deku gives us a friendly reminder that he’s Smart beyond Smart as he’s already put together the Hero Killer’s quirk and how it works. Marry me Deku.
Tumblr media
Ew Stain no licking Shoto that’s Deku’s job.
Tumblr media
Iida is yelling about how Shoto needs to let him kill Stain. (I’m reminded of a scene from Angel: “He’s my lead, he’s my lead, what are we, on the schoolyard here?) Anyway, the animation on Shoto fighting here is jaw-dropping, seeing him swap between hot and cold...wow...
Tumblr media
The nature of Stain’s quirk is just flat-out brilliant. He freezes people in place, reflecting his own mindset of how people can’t just change, how he refuses to accept Iida’s change. And according to Blood Type Personality theory, his quirk is most effective against the types of people he hates the most (B) and least against those he likes the most (O). O being closest type to his image of a perfect hero (BTW, Blood Type in Japanese dating culture also corresponds with romantic compatibility. For my main ship: O/A (Izuku/Katsuki) is considered an ideal match. Score!)
Tumblr media
But speaking of ships, Tododeku negotiate how to work together to fight Stain and it’s super cute. Shoto then has a long flashback scored to another mindblowingly good OST about how Deku completely changed his life and made it so he could deal with his shit and talk to his mom and it’s so precious and sweet. (For the record, they’re both Type O.)
Tumblr media
Also Shoto thinking about his trek to his old man’s internship is so well-timed for me today. SPOILERS Chapter 242 ends with him offering to let Wonder Duo intern with his dad and him. Holy Crap. They sure have come a long way.
Tumblr media
OMG Sub and Dub this line is so good: “Set your eyes on what you want to become”/”Become the hero he wanted you to be!” I can’t decide which I like better. Todoroki you master of epic speeches you.
I’d say this is the best of the Stain episodes. Overall, it’s just so strong. Great pacing, acting, animation, story, everything. The OST is incredible all the way through, the character development is just a joy to behold. Everything is all around amazing. Another really-high up there one. Season 2 is just a masterwork.
BKDK Corner
Tumblr media
Iida: His moves, like Bakugou’s! Everyone can see it. (Though as an aside - I think Deku  just might be faster). Also in the eternal home game of “Win and Rescue” heroes, Izuku is a true hero to Stain because he will put others first, but a true hero also needs to be able to win a fight on their own if they want to do so. Izuku isn’t quite there yet, but he’s taken an important first step. By learning from the Embodiment of Victory.
Best Girl of the Ep: Unnamed blonde pro lady!
