Another banger from Microcosm Publishing- House Plants & How to Grow Them, found at a florist shop near my house. They are all delightful people there.

NGL Coor that is a bit valid in terms of you not being able to give them the focus they needed.
Plus you would've raised like 9 kids WHILE having to collect other species/lifeforms
Although I do kinda wonder
Do you guys have other relatives? Like other cousins or aunt's or uncles or is it just you, your kids, the original Archivists and The Collector
Tumblr media
Uncle Coor: I am glad you see my perspective. It would have remained solely 4 children I would need to raise with one adult I would need to re-train. My children at the time were all adults, and had been for quite a while. However, taking them in definitely would have made me put off having more of my own children, which means my little Cataloger might not be here. And it is possible the Cartologist would not be here either. I much prefer to raise one child at a time.

Not too bad for a neglected plant. This Philodendron Majestic (Sodiroi x Verrucosum) needs a moss pole so bad but I’m too lazy to make one and to repot 😬
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I imported this from Indonesia way back in August of 2022. The whole order was basically dead so I just chopped the individual nodes and dumped it all in a propagation box with moss as a medium. Between the building the house, moving, seasonal depression, among other things, I neglected the box. I did not check it for over half a year.
Tumblr media
April came along and I finally took care of the box and to my surprise, every single type of plant that I originally ordered sprouted. Yay! I repoted them but as the weather got warmer, I focused 100% of my time on my outdoor garden. It seems like these tropical plants loves being neglected. I have the Atlantic coast high humidity to thank.

"Thrive on neglect" is a complete lie. You always see lists of "easy" houseplants online nowadays, often referred to as plants that "Thrive on neglect" and are "Impossible to kill." Bullshit. No houseplant I've ever encountered has been happier and healthier while being ignored than when receiving regular checks and daily attention.
There are many plant species that prefer dry soil, but infrequent watering ≠ neglect. You cannot seriously tell people that they can put a plant in a pot and just walk away and that that plant will "thrive."
Plants I see owned by people with this mentality of watering every month or two because their plant is "impossible to kill" look like they're barely clinging onto life.
Plants enjoy attention. Greet them, chat with them, play music for them, fertilise them, listen to their individual needs, and water them when they say so.
Thrive on neglect my arse

Alocasia Silver Dragon
I am in love with the texture of these leaves! I even have a bit of variegation on the one!
Note: Sport (unstable) variegation is somewhat common on alocasias. If you’re buying a variegated alocasia ensure that the majority of the leaves have variegation.
