sorry i finished new episode and i'm obsessed as ever

kabru clasping hold of laios' hands is so insane. laios doesn't remember this little twink's name, all he remembers is that this guy ate monster food with him and showed a slight enthusiasm for him, which to laios is unthinkable

it's hilarious seeing kabru's fervent obsession with and manipulation of laios' feelings and priorities contrasted with laios' depths of pain and distress at shuro's rejection of him and how that was borne of shuro hiding his true feelings

obvs for shuro like. he's explicitly introduced with a level of politeness and also emotional repression that's linked not only to his cultural upbringing in the east but is obviously related to his class position, esp bc the dungeon was meant to serve as his coming of age

or to hone his experiences for a return to rule as lord - and with his proposal to falin like. it's so interesting to me that shuro finds so many of falin's traits so desirable when she and laios genuinely are so similar

falin IS extremely high-empathy whereas laios is very low-empathy, but they find pleasure and joy and intrigue in similar things, they have similar senses of humour, they're similarly inexpressive or overly expressive depending on the moment

at the end of the day like, if you're going to propose to that girl and ask her to come back to your home country and marry you despite the fact that she's so obviously a lesbian, at the very least you have to pretend to like her brother

but like. she's quite LIKE her brother. they have the same broad frame, if laios gained a bit of weight i bet he'd have a similarly luxurious bust, they're both a bit clueless. she's just a woman and laios is just a man

but yeah sorry to move on from shuro's deep and seemingly inherent distrust, nay disgust, of other men that is no doubt informed by the extent to which he's been raised wholly by legions of women vs his inclination to see other men as rivals or opponents

(worsened by the extent to which he sees laios as naive and is offset by the extent of laios' earnestness)

but here you see the EXACT SAME THING happening to laios again in REAL TIME. someone else needs to keep him on side and so they're being polite

kabru is going beyond politeness and is outright lying and manipulating because he's just a delicious bitch that way, but like. the exact same thing is happening to laios - he thinks he's making a new friend and he is LATCHING ONTO kabru just like he did to shuro

is he being intelligent or tactful about it? no. god no. he's infodumping eagerly about monster food, he's answering all of kabru's questions - and!!! kabru is asking him QUESTIONS! he's being so ENTHUSIASTIC!!! and so laios rushes to cook for this new friend, this stranger

and inwardly kabru is horrified because jesus fuck, is this guy SERIOUS? and yeah he's serious about everything, he's earnest and eager about absolutely everything, and kabru is fascinated with this new variety of man but also... fucking hell

i think it's vital that they're introduced to one another initially in this group setting, because i think marcille, who is much naturally more distrustful, would ask more questions of kabru - and falin is very trusting but also would. twig something off about everything

i die because like. falin left home because she couldn't handle people's issues with magic and also because like. she was constantly in the position, i would have no doubt, of trying to explain laios to their family and friends, whilst also being beset by spirits

like obviously she wanted to go to magic school, but it was more than that - she needed to go out and grow and become an adult, and not do so in her brother's shadow and laios went off on his own, haplessly, and they end up together again bc they take care of each other

falin is a weird girl, she likes to play in the dirt, she accidentally does all this genius stuff, she's a little clueless and a little out of it, but to marcille and shuro, this is desperately desirable - she's beautiful, she's a genius, she's so loving

they see those things in her because they shine out of her like sunshine - especially because she's not intimidating, you know? whereas laios, blundering, autistic, selfish, obsessive laios, who talks a mile a minute and is so tall and broad, people find him to be too much

idk i just. i think for falin a big difficulty she has is actually in setting boundaries - she's always rushing to take care of laios even though it's not her job, she holds back on saying no to shuro because she hates to say no

marcille touches falin ALL over, touches her hair, scrubs her clean, holds her TIT while channelling magic, and falin is overwhelmed by it and you can see it in her face, but saying no is so hard for her - no to spirits, to strangers, to her friends, to her brother

i say this because like. they really don't interact much at all in the course of the manga but i think that kabru and falin actually have so much in common, both of them haunted by ghosts and both of them fixated more than they mean to be on laios

falin because to some extent i think she feels guilty about abandoning him to go to school even though she NEEDED that, and kabru because he's just an obsessive little homo and he can't cope with his need for laios' massive dick

Tighnari shakes his head, offering you a small smile. Hearing your nickname for him made his chest bloom with warmth and he could feel his tail curl up, mirroring the joy he was feeling.

"That's it this week. Thanks again." You smile and start calculating the price.

"Let me get that total for you and I'll send you off!"

This was Tighnari's weekly routine. He'd travel to Sumeru City weekly for supplies and stop by your shop. You had popped up not too long ago and were much smaller than the other stalls selling medicinal supplies. He had approached yours in curiosity. He was your first customer for the week, and you were practically vomiting up words in an attempt to convince him to buy from you.

He appreciated your honesty and integrity, only selling your supplies just above their raw value. The surprise on your face and tears bubbling in your eyes at the large first order left the fox with a warm feeling in his chest.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" Your joy was immeasurable, and you sent him home with extra products he didn't even pay for. Thus began your relationship as merchant and buyer. You knew that at 10am sharp, Tighnari would appear ready to restock his stash, and maybe tell you about some new species he found or the latest expedition.

"Being a forest ranger sure sounds dangerous, 'Nari. You don't get very hurt, do you?" The man wants to curl up under his tail in pure guilt when he sees your concerned expression. He doesn't have the heart to tell you that he's had quite a few close calls in his life, including the time he was struck by lightning. Instead, he chooses to assuage your fears, assuring you that he's quite careful, which isn't a lie necessarily.

He doesn't know when he started falling for you-- was it when you took time out of your day to visit Gandharva Ville and check on Colleii's recovery? Or the other day you came and visited to help him tend to injured rangers? Maybe it was the way your whole body physically seemed to come alive every time he visited your shop. Sure, you were friendly with all your customers, radiating joy like a ball of sunshine. But he wasn't blind-- he notices the way your eyes light up and how your speech speeds up when talking to him. The attention you gave to him was special. He lived to see it.

The growing fondness was not isolated to just Tighnari-- you would never admit this aloud, but you had also grown fond of the forest ranger. He had shot up on your list of favored people months ago when he approached your stall with genuine interest. Every time he'd visit, he'd bring something more valuable than mora-- his time.

No matter how busy he seemed, or irrelevant the topic was, Tighnari always hung around your stall, sharing his stories or even just his feelings at the time. His attention was only on you, ears pointed towards you and eyes piercing, begging for you to go on for longer about whatever mundane daily happenings you experienced.

It was sickening. Maybe it was because he interacted with all sorts of flowers (you could always spot the softest dusting of pollen on his clothes), but Tighnari was intoxicating. You found yourself drawn to him and counting down the days to his next visit. You wanted to be near him constantly.

Any outsider who looked at you two for more than two seconds could tell that you both were head over heels for each other. You both were like school children, shifting and dancing around the reality of your feelings. Onlookers could only hope you two would realize the truth quickly and confess.

"Hey, Tighnari, what kind of flowers does y/n like?"

Tighnari nearly snaps his pencil in half, ears perking up at attention. He feels his blood run cold, a barely audible growl rumbling through his chest.

"What was that?" he just barely manages to hiss out, slowly turning his gaze towards Amir, his fellow forest watcher. The man has a sheepish smile on his face, awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck.

"It's a bit cliche to fall for a healer, but I can't help it-- y/n is just beautiful! And they're so caring," he continues, then lets out an embarrassed laugh. "I want to take them out on a date! Or at least get to know them."

Tighnari's expression is unreadable as he stares at Amir. His mind races as he tries to process what he's just heard. Of course, I wouldn't be the only one to fall for them. But Amir? Does he really think he has a chance? Tighnari sneers mentally, and he can feel his tail straighten out in agitation, tugging at his lower back.

"You hang out with them a lot! Help me out Tighnari!" Amir pleads, clasping his hands together. The fox raises an eyebrow, unimpressed by his fellow ranger's desperation. Perhaps, a white lie wouldn't hurt. If it keeps Amir from acting stupid.

"I can't help you," Tighnari answers, and Amir looks up flabbergasted at his superior's denial of his request.

"If you want to court someone, you have to do the work yourself. It won't mean as much if I just tell you what y/n likes. Why not get to know them yourself?" The dog trainer stands there dumbfounded, but he takes Tighnari's words into consideration. There was some merit to it after all. And a person like you deserves to have full efforts made towards romancing you.

"I suppose you're right. Well, tha-" Amir begins, but he's cut off by a bone-chilling glare from Tighnari.

"Besides, I'm already courting y/n. Choose someone else."

The next time Tighnari visits your shop, he's not greeted with a warm smile or a cheery "Welcome back 'nari!" Instead, he receives an unimpressed stare and crossed arms from you. He offers a weird smile, taking in your body language.

"What's got your roots tangled up, y/n? Did I not return on time?" He jokes, standing in front of your stall. You snort and lean forward, resting your hands on the counter, careful not to knock down the supplies you prepared.

"Did you tell Amir that we were dating?" you ask cooly, and Tighnari can feel his nerves burn like a wildfire. That blabbermouth. I should've known he'd run off and confirm that information himself. Tighnari clears his through and fixes his smile.

"Technically, I said I was courting you. He came up with dating on his own!" You roll your eyes and turn away to dig through your other supplies, not giving him an answer.

Tighnari swallows thickly, watching your figure, desperately trying to pick apart your body language. Did I overstep my boundaries? Are they pissed off? They didn't blow up in my face but they didn't seem too pleased either. Why are they-

"You know, if you wanted to take me out on a date, you could've just asked me out," you muse, slamming down a giant pouch of mistflower stamens. The archer blinks at you owlishly, and you can see the cogs in his brain turning as he processes what you say. When it clicks, his cheeks turn a dusty rose, and he suddenly can't make eye contact with you. His tail was a dead giveaway though, curling and twisting in excitement.

"I take it you like me back then?"

"You sure know a ton about plant life but not about reading obvious signs, huh?" He turns to look at you in shock, opening his mouth to counter your statement. You cut him off with a quick peck to his cheek, pressing the supplies into his hands.

"I'll be ready in 3 nights, 6 o'clock sharp." You poke his nose gently, and he sneezes instinctively. "Don't be late, or I'll make the hunter the hunted~"

Finally, you’ve made it. Baldur’s Gate– it looks so beautiful in the bright, golden sunlight of the Sword Coast. Your heart swells with joy at the sights, sounds. Somehow, even the various city smells, which might have normally left your nose wrinkling in disgust, are calling you forward.

You turn toward your companions, each Baldurian, each with vastly different experiences of the city. It shows in how they enter it now. Shadowheart has a look of vague recognition on her face, as if she’s piecing together each part of the city into a map she’s not quite familiar with. Karlach’s entire face is lit up, much like when you stumbled upon the circus. You strongly suspect that if she weren’t attached to you all at the hips, she’d have run off into a crowd or tavern to just relish the feeling of being surrounded by people. As for Astarion…

When you finally take in his expression, a lump forms in your throat. His eyes are wide, sweeping across the city in wonder. His expression is so open and vulnerable, you hesitate to break it, yet you can’t pull your gaze away from him. Of course, he notices your staring.

"Gods,” he breathes out, continuing to look around you, past you to the full expanse of the city. You might not have even registered that he was speaking to you except for his occasional glance back at you. “This is the first time in two hundred years that I've seen these streets in the sunlight. You can forget just how much color there is in the world."

The vampire may be speaking to you, but his voice is realms away, the memories of another lifetime, another man unable to hide in the blinding daylight. You’re torn, because he seems to genuinely delight in the colors of the city– however, the underlying sorrow, the wistful regret is unmistakable. For the first time since you’ve learned of Cazador’s profane ritual, you contemplate if any price is too grand to pay for this man’s happiness.

You shoo the thought away as quickly as it comes. There are other ways. There have to be other ways. Instead, you intend to pull him out of this reverie, asking him softly, “Are you alright?”

His reaction is swift, knee-jerk, “Yes, of course.” The moment passes as he adopts an annoyed tone, “ Obviously. Sorry, did you want something?” Again his defensive wall is up, a flippant attitude paving over the subtle cracks of weakness.

You try not to let it bother you, you really do. You remind yourself that a lot of this is new to him, and that which isn’t new comes with a slew of horribly familiar memories. But it still pricks at you, a dull ache blossoms in your chest as you take a shuddering breath. “No, sorry for asking.” The words come out clipped, hurt despite yourself.

As you move to continue onward, you feel the chill of Astarion’s fingers wrapping around your wrist. His eyes are now entirely trained on you, only a smidge of annoyance left as he whispers, “Darling, you don’t constantly need to ask me if I'm alright. I'll have you know, I'm a perfectly grown adult vampire.”

Resisting the urge to turn toward him, to bury yourself in his chest and apologize– for what you’re not entirely sure– you opt instead to whisper back over your shoulder, “I know, but I can't help caring. You know that.”

He produces a small sigh, looks to see both of your companions are distracted by a nearby stall, and smoothly snakes both of his arms around you. Pressing his chest into your back, he leans in to whisper your name in an exhale. “Darling, don’t take this the wrong way, but you are utterly insufferable.”

“I don’t know how else to take that,” you state dryly, continuing to stare forward and cursing your heart for its excited palpitations.

“A term of endearment perhaps?” he questions into your hair. Holding you a bit tighter, he continues, “I… apologize for not appreciating your concern.” The word ‘apologize’ sounds like another language on his leaden tongue, but he manages through it. Much like the time he thanked you, the discomfort is palpable.

Something about it placates your heart, and you grip his arms to your stomach in a loving squeeze. “Thank you. And,” you hesitate, looking down at your linked arms, wondering how you will stand up to this man when push comes to shove. “I’m sorry for pressuring you. I know you’re perfectly capable on your own, I promise.”

He gives a laugh, an airy, happy thing. “Oh, I know, my sweet. You certainly task me with enough grueling work to remind me of that fact daily.”

You nudge him in half-hearted annoyance, but the carefree rhythm to his voice has you smiling to yourself. “If you don’t want more to do, then let go of me. I think Karlach might accidentally set the Stormshore Tabernacle ablaze if we leave her alone too long.”

Astarion releases you with a retort, “It’s made of stone, dear. How in the hells would she manage that?”

“I, for one, would not like to find out,” you say, pulling on one of Astarion’s arms as you chase after your other companions.

With all of the practiced dexterity of a rogue, his arm slips out of your hand, only to be replaced by his hand. You’re a bit surprised, but the feel of his cool palm, his long fingers, is anything but unwelcome. As if it’s the most natural thing in the world, your love intertwines your fingers in his and walks through the city of Baldur’s Gate by your side.

Again, the thought strikes you: what wouldn’t I do for this man’s happiness? You’re left with that burning question unanswered as you catch up with Shadowheart and Karlach.

“Okay everyone, let’s head to the Elfsong. I promised Alfira we’d meet her there. And maybe we can find a few rooms to hole up in while we save the Coast.” You receive a few nods as a response, a gentle squeeze of your hand from Astarion. Your heart is heavy with the number of tasks ahead of you, with the decisions that you’ve yet to make, but hearing Karlach’s occasional happy giggle, seeing Shadowheart’s head bob this way and that, feeling the soft pressure of Astarion’s hand in yours– you’re reminded to stay steady on your path, one foot following another.

this one's a long one

So first, a rundown on my headcanons for Brick and Bubbles:

Bubbles first. I think Bubbles has a much more mature outlook on good and bad than her sisters do. Don't let her ditzy attitude fool you. Bubbles sometimes she is less smart than she actually is just for jokes. "Okay, but why did I think that bush was actually the Professor but in drag". But really, she understands the moral grey that the world actually is. Life isn't just Good vs. Bad, and Bubbles knows that and lets that insight inform all of her superhero fights.

She never stops being sensitive, and instead of going with the "this hardens her later in life route", I went with the "she is actually more frustrated with her inability to harden" route. She wants to be tough and unfeeling often, especially because the emotions she feels continue to be strong and intense and absolutely devastating. Unfortunately, she just can't stop the intensity. Maybe it's because when she feels happy, she feels that joy so intensely, that it's like, why would she want to harden? Like such intense happiness that she looks back at the sadness cringing. As if she can't imagine being that sad. But of course, the sadness always comes back. I never really liked it when people took away her joy as she got older and acted like that was just a normal part of life. Like as an adult myself, sure I'm not as carefree and as hyper as I was when I was a kid, but I would still be considered a bubbly person now even though my life isn't that great. And don't think shitty things just never happened to me either.

Brick, on the other hand, is a hard cynic who hates everything except maybe himself. He is mostly stupid, but he thinks he's the smartest guy in the room. And he hates when people point out when he's wrong (which is why he hates most people, except for his yes-man Butch). I say mostly because the bitch can't spell and he just be spewing bullshit sometimes. But smart in other ways; he is resourceful, keeps up with the news, is somehow in the know for a lot of things, is quick-witted, and is great at improvising whether it's with fighting or in day-to-day life. These skills often save him from ever going to jail.

Also, I HC that Brick essentially emancipates himself AND his brothers from their dads without really asking his bros. His thought was that his dads are just- way too much. And because of his personality, he just hates having to report to an authority above him, like get off my back old man! He essentially raises his brothers, including influencing their humor, music, and values. Part of his relationship with his brothers is an ego thing. He loves being the leader and using his brothers to make himself look better. But another part of it is that he genuinely loves his brothers. And he realizes this way too late (realized when his bros were moving on from needing him). And it fucks him up. And that pushes him to be a better person actually.

OK SO THE RELATIONSHIP:

I FUCKING LOVE THEIR ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIP MAN. Like listen, as much as I love to shit on Brick, he is still a suave dude. Like the dude knows how to flirt and he's super quick with it, just great timing with shit. Sometimes it genuinely creates butterflies in Bubbles' stomach, other times she lets it completely go over her head. One, because it's funny, and two, because she kinda wants to be unassuming sometimes:

"So do you just jump around often, or are you just happy to see me"

"Oh I'm just giddy because Fruits Basket is FINALLY rebooting after like a million years, but it's nice seeing you to Brick :)."

"Oh... Fruits Basket."

Bubbles isn't a master of flirting, but people fall in love with her constantly. Like Bubbles so so SO effortlessly gets people to love her and she doesn't need to be perfect like Blossom or a badass like Buttercup. She is just so endearing and fun to be around that she attracts people with ease. Brick is just another guy who likes her basically. So he needs to work to prove to her that he is the one, and not those other nobodies.

And because of his cynical nature, he expects that the longer he knows her, he's going to uncover just the underlying sinister nature behind her bubbly persona, but he never does. Bubbles is through and through a good person who is mostly consistent in her philosophies and is just a genuinely sincere person. And she works hard to be good and she sticks by it. Brick respects the consistency and standing up for her shit. Bubbles is one of the few people who convinces Brick's stubborn mind. And it's not because of her feminine wiles, but rather because Bubbles' consistency to be good and the merit to her nuanced arguments are what gets through to him. Bubbles is also a great person to concede to because she will NEVER make you feel bad for losing an argument to her. She makes him feel heard and understood before she disagrees. So when they fight, they often deescalate it before it escalates much. Really the issue for them is how fucking long it takes for Brick to finally be ready for being in a relationship with Bubbles. But when they do, it is really nice.

I see them as huuuuge tumblr-fandom nerds. They both have had homestuck phases that they try to forget. Brick will interpret characters in veeery particular ways and gets pretty peeved about different interpretations. Bubbles is that super open-minded person who is so kind and carefree that honestly you don't mind that some of their interpretations are absolutely heinous. Bubbles (pre-relationship) would also constantly compare him and her with other characters with culpable romantic tension and that imports thoughts into Brick's head.

Once Bubbles likes someone, she is like suuuuper romantic. Doodling hearts next to Brick's name. Doodling his face everywhere. Capturing a unique beauty in odd profiles of Brick's. And like just imagine Brick sees them. These aren't idealizing him or making him look like a model, but rather capture the flaws and make them beautiful in an artistic and vulnerable way. Maybe at first Brick is like caught back, like smug, like haha ur drawing me so u liiiike me, but then he's like hold on, these are like, really good. See I am also a sucker for Brick enjoying art. The portraits would evoke something in him, he'd feel the intimacy of being drawn in such a loving way. (or maybe I'm just being self indulgent haha).

Brick and Bubbles go out a lot. Brick always takes her to secret spots, and somehow he always knows where the best Italian or the best Chinese food is, and they're always these underground spots. They are also both social butterflies and will often make conversation with strangers. They meet people who are complete characters and it makes for great stories. Entertainment for Brick and new friends for Bubbles! Another thing, Bubbles and Brick are just pretty funny together. Like Bubbles is so fucking silly and Brick is silly but in a very different way. Sometimes Brick is Bubbles' straightman and other times Bubbles is his.

Running on fumes,,, why I ship it:

Because I ship Blossutch and Boomercup,,,jk kinda. Honestly, I blame the Bubble Boy episode. From how Bubbles was able to decieve them so long, only to blow her cover by doing something so hardcore that even Boomer wouldn't do it? That earned Brick's respect for sure. AND THE FACT BUTCH THREW UP??? SCAB BOY???? Yeah, that surely got her brownie points. So from this, I created the headcanon that Brick holds some respect for her and genuinely refuses to underestimate her because shit was fucking metal. And Bubbles is CONSTANTLY underestimated by everybody else (see the fucking Hardcore episode) and she faces this obstacle all the time especially because of my body headcanons (short and a lil chubby). So when a guy like Brick actually sees her as a fucking threat, it feels nice. And they're funny together. Big plus.

Jim is a reminder of what is lost... and who you are without the weight of your history.

I had this idea come to me while I was working on my latest video about Jim and now I'm just haunted by it. It hurts my heart..... so of course I had to share.

Who are we when we are truly alone? What makes us who we are…. who are we when we don’t know who we are supposed to be?

If you aren’t controlled by the weight of your personal history or the expectations of others or prejudices…

If you were to become a blank slate who would you be at heart?

What is your true being and how is that different from you now in all of your choices, in the way you speak with others, or the way you see the world and respond to it?

Arizaphale sees Jim as the angel who was before Gabriel…. with all the weight of identity and his choices stripped away.

And he is delightful and innocent.

How much is this a reminder for him of pre-fall Crowley?

How much of this season of GO is Aziraphale watching Gabriel constantly reminded of Crowley as the innocent being he was without all of that pain, the weight of what happened to him…..

Seeing the difference in Gabriel vs Jim and wishing... and wanting... and wanting...

Seeing someone who he was genuinely fearful of, who must have seemed all powerful and who was hostile and unkind returned to who they were when they were new?

Gabriel functionally sells the lie of pre-fall Crowley….. every moment he is Jim.

Yes it is possible to go back… no matter how bad things are or have been …. no matter what you can return to that state of innocence…. of joy.

And seeing Crowley and Gabriel interact…. the one carrying the world on his shoulders… and the one who has been liberated from the memory of who he was….. forcing Crowley to mind Jim in the shop - pushing him to confront him….

"he’s harmless… you’re being silly".

And wanting… and wanting …. and then motherf--ing-metatron offers the fantasy. And this after Gabriel manages to have the love story. And after Crowley went to heaven to get angels.... to solve the mystery, and showing a willingness to go there for Aziraphale without even being asked.

I hate that this is true and how terrible it is for Crowley. How angry I get at the suggestion that he has to change himself completely to be accepted!!

I mean - the idea that Aziraphale would even think he could ask this - ever ever ever because what the heaven Aziraphale?!

But also, I can see why Aziraphale might think it was ok in that moment running high on the adrenaline of blowing up his halo and ringing a literal bell over the powers of heaven and hell to make them behave the way you want, and being told he was worthy of running it all.

I know some people have wondered about a body swap during the kiss and to that I say…. well yeah…. Gabriel stole Crowley’s identity here. Gabriel is the cynical one …. who is actually really sweet underneath that smug know it all persona of being the most important angel…. and innocent in so many ways that matter. When you strip away the created identity, and role-based aspects of his character, he becomes a playful, joyful child who wonders at the things he is learning, wants to help. Crowley isn't smug... but he's very much world-weary and "dangerous" and thrives in his grumpy persona but is so kind at heart .... and pre-fall overflowing with joy and wonder.

The parallels are very real…. and Metatrash hitched his train to that ride and then rode it all the way to heartbreak.

So yeah…. Aziraphale has things to do for his redemption arc.

But that temptation….

This is something I’m not sure he was capable of saying no to. He’s been primed with each moment in the bookshop to want what he was offered and to be blinded to what that would mean for Crowley.

Because we all know he doesn’t actually want Crowley to change

ie: the dance …. the only one who wasn’t altered was Crowley – everyone else was magicked into something swanky… but he was clearly already perfect to Aziraphale as he was.

But what you think you want and the reality of getting a thing….. especially if you’ve wanted it for a long time and haven’t been able to be honest about it…. that’s one reason the kiss was so important.

Aziraphale had to experience something real to break him out of the fantasy of his mental ideal.

Crowley has always been something other. More than a demon or an angel. He just is himself… he decided that a very long time ago…. and he’s done everything in his power to protect that identity from everyone, heaven, hell and in the end even Aziraphale.

And Jim, short for James, sometimes the Archangel fucking Gabriel helped set up the misunderstanding. So on a lot of levels, Crowley is right - Gabriel did bring all the problems in the world - and all the reminders of the past.... and a world of heartbreak.

as always, i recommend reading Digital Minimalism and Deep Work by Cal Newport. digital minimalism and introducing it’s importance to others is what i am passionate about. this post is simply to branch off from what i learned, what resonates with me and my perspective from his books while interconnecting it with posts from my blog. i can’t thank cal enough for his impact.

so you’re interested in being a digital minimalist.

ask yourself these questions:

what are your deepest values in life?

where do you currently stand in your journey of self improvement? what have you done so far that has led you to this moment and what are some things that you can do better?

do the apps in your phone bring you continuous spark and joy? in what ways does your daily phone usage support these deepest values?

be in the know: the continuous growth of phone usage is, to say the least, detrimental. as of 2022, the average person picks up their phone 344 times and uses their phone for 5 hours per day (excluding work related usage)

if your deepest values are work, continuous self improvement, friends, traveling, family, and school, how does being on your phone for the majority of your days, scrolling on social media/texting support these values?

you say you want to try new hobbies, travel more, and meet new people then look back and notice you really haven’t done most of the things you said you wanted to do. you take a closer look and notice you are on your device, pressing like button after like button, constantly watching what everyone else is doing rather than living the life in front of you. you end up disappointed.

imagine yourself looking back at your life as whole at this moment. would you see all the times you spent going on adventures, having the best time of your life or would you see moments of endless scrolling on your feed flashing before your eyes?

which one do you want?

just imagine the massive improvement you’d see if you reduced your screen time and used it to your advantage by doing meaningful things like:

learning new skills everyday, executing that plan for a trip you made, cooking, dance, working out, reading more books, learning about extensive topics like business and psychology, volunteering, getting more sleep.

to be able to create a beautiful life for yourself, it all stems from you— your will and desire to have a beautiful, lived life, your plan, the execution, and the endless enjoyment.

these are so much more fulfilling than seeing tweets or keeping up with celebrities and influencers. trust me when i say you won’t miss much and have a breakdown if you missed a celebrity’s newest selfie or didnt retweet that recycled joke you saw on your timeline 3 months ago.

there will ALWAYS be something new and entertaining to learn and experience in life. you just have to put yourself out there.

you crave genuine bonds? high bandwidth connections come from meeting up with people, having face to face interactions, not sharing memes and meaningless texts (no, emojis do not help)

you want to be a high achiever and reach your goals? you can’t do that when social media takes up half of your time.

you want real experiences? look up from the digital screen and use your five senses to bask in the sunlight, hear the real-life chatter, focus and interact with the people around you, smell the fresh air and taste the food. do you really need to record and document everything for a 24h story?

weren’t you supposed to study for that exam? did you schedule your routine appointments? when was the last time you hung out with a loved one? when was the last time you picked up a hobby and spent time alone? did you finish that book you were reading? didn’t you say you had a goal to go to the gym a few times a week? have you been easy on yourself like you said you would?

i thought you said you were sick of not living the life of your dreams yet… i don’t see you taking any action to achieve that goal?

break the habit and start living your best life. let’s get into the how!

Great Men Academy - Much like 3 Will Be Free and The Warp Effect, Great Men Academy isn't a BL, but it doesn't stop it from being queer af. It has a unicorn that grants wishes, a magical lake that requires nudity to activate, a ghost, a school sanctioned Hunger Games, body swapping, and an Elite level moment:

If you don't get the Elite reference, know that this lead-paint-level-toxic hottie, Cruz, delivered the best line ever uttered in the series:

My Beautiful Man 2 - I do not condone stalking, but when it comes to my idol and his devoted worshiper, I'm trying to invent new ways of stalking, so Hira can always be within a 100 yards of Kiyoi. They should be more red flags than California during fire season, yet they are wholesome and adorable.

Well...in a very kinky way, kinda like these two wild kids from Secretary

Never Let Me Go - It has a teenager becoming the CEO of his family's multi-million dollar company and another teenager being his bodyguard falling in love! How could I not love it?! It's outrageous! And somehow the most unrealistic thing about this plot is there being a genuine good guy who openly talks about bitcoins, and I LOVE HIM! I did not have falling in love with a man who enjoys "investing" on my BINGO card, but then again, look at my very good boy. LOOK AT HIM!

Hit Bite Love - It's so messy. It has stepbrothers in love, open discussions about condom sizes and lubricant, Kinks-R-Us, a bi Burger looking for his King, and so much more. This past episode hid a pivotal scene behind a paywall due to the two characters having sex in the school's locker room, so half of the plot was missing in the edited version. It made NO SENSE, but I didn't care. Give me all the mess, but I draw the line at taking off your sock and putting it in someone's mouth. BAD BOY! VERY BAD BOY!

The End of the World with You - Japanese BLs stress me out. They give me a lot of an anxiety, and I'm constantly preparing for someone to die or for one of them to be a murderer. Even in the "happiest" Japanese BLs, there always exist this undercurrent of malice..and I'm attracted to it. >insert Ritsu aka El Diablo<

Moonlight Chicken - Eff "More than Friends, Less than Lovers!" That's child's play. Give me my HussyVille Gang Gang! Give me the "we've been breaking beds and each other's backs since day one, but I'm not even sure what his name is, and if I'm being honest, I don't really need to know" squad. HIStory 5: Love in the Future - I will always show up to a Taiwanese BL. They are like Rihanna at the Super Bowl. They do the bare minimum but are still very entertaining, include all the fan favorites (domestic bliss, high heat, office romances, good side couples, marriage equality), and pop out with a few surprises. Others may be disappointed, but I am ALWAYS pleased.

My School President - Did you read the list before this? There is a common underlying theme. Even if the show isn't messy, I'm going to find the mess and fixate on it, and it doesn't get stranger than Por's obsession with the chinchilla. GMM better get on merchandising this critter ASAP because there is a gold mine behind this, capitalizers.

Bed Friend - It hasn't started yet, but I'll be watching it. It has a Blue Boy and Red Rascal BUT they are not who would normally be coded that way, which means they are clearly going to have to resolve the reasons why they changed their behavior to cover up their obvious colors. Who hurt our Red Rascal that he turned into a nun? Who harmed our Blue Boy to make him the slutty slut he is? I cannot wait to find out!

Chains of Heart - One word: Papi. Wait, sorry. Let me try again: Poppy. The show has a plot, and I care about it, but...Poppy. He is playing a bad guy, which I got a glimpse of in Love Mechanics, so I'm hoping it means we get to see more of him, and I don't mean screen time, although I wouldn't be opposed to that either. Obviously, I have to be interested in the actual plot since he is a supporting character...but POPPY! mmmm, papi!

If you need a sign that it gets better here it is.

I sincerely mean this. You have to understand where I’m coming from. I’m mentally ill and traumatized and I’ve been like this for most of my life. So much of my life has been bad day after bad day. When people would tell me shit got better I’d get mad. I would get mad over the word happy because I thought the capacity to be happy had been removed from my brain. I didn’t think it was possible. I genuinely thought I would never get better and I believed it to my core. If you put a gun to my head and said to believe it I would’ve gotten shot that’s how intent I was on this. But if it could happen to me it can absolutely happen to you and it’s never too late for things to get better.

This doesn’t mean things will never be sucky. Of course they will. That’s life. But fuck. I used to have mental breakdowns constantly. I would be in abusive relationships that tore me apart. I lived in so much fear. I was so sick with anxiety. I would tolerate mistreatment from partners and friends and even people I hardly knew. I’d people please to no end. I’d overextend and be everyone’s therapist meanwhile I was drowning with no one to help me. I couldn’t set a single boundary without immediately feeling immense guilt and retracting whatever it was. I let everyone’s opinions on me inform me on who I was. I couldn’t cut anyone off or leave. I’d tolerate so so so much discomfort for the prospect of “love” that was actually abuse. I let things destroy me. I put myself last just like my abusers did. I didn’t stand up for myself. I’d ruminate on my past constantly. I couldn’t let anything go. I read old messages from shitty people like it was my morning news. I was so incredibly hopeless and alone. In all honesty I thought my last abusive relationship would be the end of me. I didn’t think I would survive it or the aftermath when that hit.

But it snapped something in me. That and being played by someone I trusted who betrayed me and took advantage of me. After that I vowed to never again tolerate the shit I had in the past. I gradually started to learn and apply shit I hadn’t ever before. I started to stand up for myself. I started to learn how to stop overextending as much. I started to protect my peace. I started to spend time on myself rather than shitty temporary fucking awful waste of time people. I started to trust my own intuition over what my abusers tried to convince me of. I learned how to cut people off, something that for most of my life I couldn’t fathom. I started to let people have their own opinions on me and not let it ruin my day. So what if someone thinks I’m rude? So what if someone doesn’t like me? I may be more alone than I have been in years but it feels much less lonely than having a bunch of shitty people in my life who are toxic and not genuine.

I’m okay being alone if it means I have my peace, something I used to be terrified of. I’d tolerate mistreatment if it meant I wouldn’t be alone. I smile and laugh easier than I used to. I have fun. I experience joy. I see beauty in the little things like the night sky and the moon or the waves of the ocean or the feeling of fresh air on my skin. I put myself out there more and people actually like me for who I am. I don’t mask nearly as much as I used to. I embrace my interests and parts of me I used to adamantly suppress. I don’t need anyone to make me whole. I’m whole on my own. I don’t think pretending to be something I’m not so people like me is worth it anymore. I don’t let little things destroy and completely color my day anymore. I don’t constantly read old messages anymore. I actually deleted a bunch of old shit from my camera roll for the first time ever days ago.

Like I said I’m not perfect. I still have bad days. My esteem has a ways to go. I still feel dissatisfied with my life at points. My mental illnesses and trauma still act up. I struggle. But my god. My growth is genuinely incredible when I sit back and look at the big picture which I guess I haven’t really done before now. I’m excited to see what progress I make even further as I continue to grow. I’m so different than I used to be and I suppose that’s part of why I’ve lost so many people. They can’t handle me actually setting boundaries and standing up for myself. They banked on my tolerance that’s no more. You will lose (toxic) people when you start becoming healthy which is something no one told me. But it’s so worth it. It’s so worth it.

I’ve made it through so much horrific shit. So many close calls where I nearly took my life or contemplated it. Yet I got through it all and not only that but I changed for the better. I lived to see it get better. If you’re struggling to find a reason to stick around, live for the possibility that things can get better. If they can get better for me, they absolutely can for you. Live for the possibility of joy, ease, beauty, and a life you like.

I made a post on here that blew up awhile ago that said that I wished I killed myself at 15. I disagree with that sentiment. I would’ve missed out on so much growth. I would’ve died without seeing it get better. I wouldn’t have accomplished so much. I wouldn’t have made so much progress. I’m glad I didn’t die at 15. I’m glad I saw things out and I’m on the other side of that despair with a smile.

SPOILER WARNING FOR TSATS

My personal opinion of TSATS that no one asked for-

I personally loved Nico and Will’s relationship throughout the story, it felt realistic considering their situation and their miscommunication seemed accurate as no relationship is going to be constantly perfect, though I do wish their conversations were a bit longer

I love Will but I feel like this book left a lot of things unanswered about him, like they wanted to follow up on a promise of development for him but weren’t exactly sure how to follow through, especially with a book so focused on Nico. If this story had lasted even 2 books instead of 1, there would have been more development possible

The first half of the book, I loved. The trogs, Menoetes, Gorgyra, all of it felt the closest to books with Nico and Will I’d read in the past. Once they got to Tartarus was around when I started noticing this weird feeling, like something wasn’t right. It wasn’t super in your face or anything, but there was more that caught me off guard

I say this in the most love filled way possible, but parts of the book felt like a tumblr post

I honestly don’t really get the whole ‘Nico’s out of character’ thing I see people saying. His change feels natural, a part of his healing as he learns to accept joy into his life and focus on being a teenager. If anything, the dumb references seemed exactly like him, just a side we haven’t gotten to see in a while

If anything, Will seemed the most out of character, which makes sense. He’s someone whose POV we haven’t seen before, stuck in a place which is bringing out parts of him that don’t usually show on a surface level. The Will that so many people had in their head before this book was seen through other eyes, and now people are acting disappointed that he’s not who they thought he was when we weren’t given enough information to form a fair original impression of him

The one thing that kind of grated on me in this book was, unfortunately, the gay stuff. Nico and Will’s relationship felt so natural in the past, it felt almost more supportive to have it treated so plainly, a simple fact that Nico and Will were dating, and that was that. And don’t get me wrong, I was all for more representation, and things like Piper’s partner being mentioned or just simply Nico and Will being together was incredible. But now it just seemed to be all over the place, and again, often when it was mentioned it felt like a tumblr post

Wtf was up with Hazel and Reyna?? You know?? His two living sister figures?? I appreciate that we finally got some closure on Bianca, but to see Nico barely mention the other two kind of bugged me

The trogs should get a mini book. I said what I said

Idk bout y’all but Bob calling solangelo his sun and his star was some of the cutest shit-

Wtf was Nico’s coming out though like it still felt like it wasn’t fully his decision, after Cupid it seemed a little weird not letting his coming out be a private moment with the people he trusted most

Kinda confused how Nico survived his first fall to Tartarus when he didn’t have shit to protect himself? And yet with Will they had to make a half pipe to survive. How did Nico not just become a pancake on impact?? <- genuine question, anyone got ideas??

I think part of what made this book just slightly off for me was the lack of other characters. Even when it was just Percy and Annabeth in Tartarus, there were more familiar monsters, new friends, and there were other characters chapters in between theirs. I think that was why the Underworld part of the book resonated with me more than the Tartarus part, there were more characters to help the book move more smoothly

Also, they were fighting against Nyx, who is literally night. I know maybe my expectations were too high, but I was kind of hoping for more of a clash between night and the child of the sun

Overall, I liked this book a lot and it helped me reconnect with a part of myself I hadn’t explored in a while, but there’s a lingering ache of disappointment that I didn’t love it. Whether it needed more books to come to its full potential, or I raised my expectations too high, I don’t know. I’m still happy to own the book, to have read the book, and maybe the remaining melancholy is just a feeling of having to let go of characters, but I’d say this book did at least give some closure to all the sadness Nico has been through. The book did market itself as a ‘Nico Di Angelo Adventure’ so it makes sense he got the most insight

Me absolutely gushing and fangirling over the people of this fandom. So don't mind me 🥰

At its core this fandom is fueled by the best people I've ever met or have gotten the chance to interact with.

I've not run into one sour person. And I've been told it's because I'm not heavily active in the fandom or as diehard as many others.

But I don't think that's true. I think this fandom is genuinely filled with the most amazing folks.

I've only come across creative, gentle spirited, unique, protective, open-minded, friendly, caring, original, honest, transparent, welcoming, warm, bright, accepting individuals.

I'm in a lot of fandoms and I've never seen the community this one has. It's not just Tumblr unique either this fandoms energy spans several websites.

I know theirs a dark side to it, as their is with any fandom. But more often than not I see the good side of it.

It's incredibly easy to talk to a ST fan, even as a woman with severe social phobia and general anxiety.

I love seeing us all interact with each other. It always looks and feels like old friends chatting.

The support the fandom gives each other and the general acceptance of differences is heart warming.

It's like.... you've all become a great big version of the family the characters in the show have become.

I've seen so many people build each other up when one of us is being down on themselves. People reaching out to other fans to help. Sharing joys and sadnesses with one another.

Welcoming new people into the arms of the fandom in the best way.

But as well as protecting each other and the people who brought to life the very show that we all love as well as the industry it's driven by.

I don't think you all know how wonderful you actually are.

It's been years and I'm still blown away by this fandom. Even with it's moments of turmoil, those never last long. It gets a little ugly in some small spaces and sure like any large fandom folks bump heads from time to time. But even that usually gets resolved pretty quickly.

I've heard horror stories, but overall even in those spats ~ all sides end up having a support circle that's genuinely concerned for those involved.

Everyone whose helped build Stranger Things into what is should be proud of this community that it formed and the people it's brought together.

The ST fandom is one with so much heart it's spilling over like a waterfall.

And I thank everyone in this community for making it what it is and being who you are. This fandom constantly gives me reasons to smile.

Fanart, fics, conversations, theories, character analysis, gifs, the way you all spread news, info and hype. Good lord it's endearing and constant.

Seeing everyone rally together over things.

The overflow of empathy within people here, even those who claim they aren't good with people ... they are unknowingly great with people.

I adore how you all strive to share your interests with each other and let one another know your valid, seen and accepted.

Thank you all for making this party the best ever.

Despite his hiccups he tries to be as friendly and helpful as possible.”

I’ve been off of social media for almost 6 months.

With the exception of tumblr, Pinterest, and youtube. And before you say well those are social medias too, yes you’re right they are social media. The difference is how I use them. Instagram and Pinterest are two completely incomparable vibes. On instagram, I’m always overthinking it, and try to make my life seem as picture perfect as i can.

Where as on Pinterest and tumblr i don’t feel the need to be seen as a perfect human, though i still don’t allow my “moments” or my business on these sites either because somethings just don’t need to be shared. But on these site I feel as if i can relax a bit more and share my thoughts and how my brain works without the need for them to be validated. Maybe its because Im not directly posting myself and that I know that the odds are someone in real life connecting this blog to me are slim to none.

These sites feel slower and a bit more grounding for me. Mainly because I use them as a way to track myself, my thoughts, my affirmations, my goals, my dream self. Where as on other socials you’re bombarded with other peoples lives, what new thing they’re doing, whats going on in their lives. And by constantly seeing it your mind is constantly think of it and comparing. Comparison is the thief of joy, you’ll never truly be happy if you’re always worried about what the next person is doing.

Of course as any young adult these days knows, navigating life without social media is hard. Not only in the sense that you feel as if you’re out of the loop and missing out on things that your peers are doing, but in the fact that being without social media makes you realize how much of your time you’ve spent on it. Now you feel restless, bored, you don’t know what to do, every time you pick up your phone you’re itching for instagram, facebook, or twitter. Without these sites you have to sit with yourself and your thoughts.

I will say my life has been much slower without these apps, I’m more focused on my next move instead of which one of my mutuals got cheated on today and wondering if my significant other will cheat on me. I can say that without these apps I feel better, not only about myself but there is a genuine relief in not knowing everything that is going on in everyones life across the world.

We were not built to process that much information. And the privacy that comes with not spending every free moment of social media feels great. You can feel the authenticity of every moment come back. You can hang out with your friends and take pictures that you actually enjoy because they’re not “instagramable”. Not that your life cant be aesthetically pleasing but, some of the more enjoyable experiences are not the most aesthetic things.

You don’t have to leave social media entirely for these benefits either. As i said earlier I use Pinterest, tumblr, and youtube. And my instagram is still up, though I removed 90% of my followers and privated my page. It all depends on what works best for you, what you want out of this social-medialess (?) experience. Do what makes you truly happy and comfortable. And remember you don’t have to explain yourself to anyone. Saying “because i wanted to” or “ just because” are valid statements and you don’t have to go any further.

I guess I can talk about how I came around to self ship to begin with?

I did have lots of casual "flings" and crushes for sure in my past, but I never really self shipped. I end up crushing on just about any character that my wife writes with me in RPs or even characters that my ex-fiance would write back in the day! I started dabbling in the idea of actually self shipping with Hypnopotamus and Big Mama from Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles back when that was airing. (Think around 2018 to pre-pandemic 2020.) We usually just wrote one off dates or misadventures and there wasn't much more than that. I also kept it very private too, too shy and worried about people being mean.

I think that started getting me comfortable with actually writing myself with a fictional character. What are my traits? How do I act in a relationship that doesn't start online first? All things to really figure out about myself!

And I also had a brief little "I can fix him" moment with Emperor Nefarious from the new Ratchet and Clank game. I think the character's design is really hot, but to be honeeeest, he's a pretty flat character with hardly any screentime in a franchise that I only have a tangential connection to. This resulted in a short fizzle, I just couldn't make it last with just so little. So I realized that what I was looking for in a self ship was a lot more than just initial magnetic attraction, it had to be more substantial.

And then I ended up falling head over heels for Bull Armor!

It was slow at first. His introduction into the plot of the show got me invested to begin with. But even so, then I was like "psssh, there's no way I can find Leaguers attractive though". I love robots and all, but Leaguer proportions are still strange. They're so chibi and yet they all also loom over most humans. Yet inevitably though, something clicked and I was just doomed.

Everything about him and his story just compels me. The way that he's so kindhearted and gentle, yet it never comes into question how powerful and strong he is. How trauma impacted his every waking day after the accident and getting to see him heal from it and make lifelong friends. And his resume is accidentally so long in the weirdest ways, and yet it works! Former (but diagraced) pre-championship football runner and quarterback, robot nurse, soccer goalie for the World Championship... Also he's bull themed, fuck it, as if he didn't have enough going on!

I love him! He's really the only character I truly consider my "F/O". My wife writes Bully for me and we've got a bunch of plotlines and a whole timeline of our relationship and a couple silly AUs and just lots of cute sappy shippy stuff!

Something I really like about shipping with him is that I think he'd find the way humans function to be fascinating and genuinely beautiful. I'm constantly smitten with the idea of him loving me even more as I age, because humans transform and grow in ways not attainable by robots. I've never thought "I want us to grow old together" before about a fictional character, so it feels extra deep and special that he brings that out in me. I feel more excited about entering what some people disparagingly refer to as "twink death"-- I'm getting hairier and fatter on testosterone and I think it rocks. And I think that a lot of that confidence comes from obviously not just my own joy at how my body is changing, but also because I can imagine he'd be in love with it too.

Overall, I love this guy! Plus it feels like just the human/robot relationship in the context of the Shippu! Iron Leaguer universe has such an endless array of questions to answer! I feel like we'll never run out of stuff to write about us. Plus, it just makes me happy when I'm stressed.
