Magnus Bane x Alec Lightwood from Shadowhunters, I wrote a bunch of fanfics for them when I was younger. I did not anticipate how many views I would get on a couple of them, so that was cool! (shameless plug to check out my AO3 account, Sent2TheBeast. Unfortunately most of my fics are now locked due to how people feed content to AI software)

I will give this one to @bengiyo. I was not a fan of Korn and Intouch from Until We Meet Again because of how one-sided the relationship seemed to me. But conversations with Ben gave me deeper insights in to Korn and have had me reconsidering my impression of that relationship.

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

Tony DiNozzo and Ziva David would almost certainly get me cancelled considering Ziva's service history in Israel. Glad I was able to free myself of the cop/military propaganda that is NCIS when I entered high school.

12. What was your favorite crack ship?

I don't really embrace the crack culture, I am not a huge fan of crack vids, crack fics, crack ships

13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of?

Of all the couples I read fanfics for, I think Malec from Shadowhunters was probably my most frequently read.

14. What most of your ships usually have in common?

I feel like 99% of the ships that have wormed their way in to my brain to the point of obsession (aka me making fan art, writing fics, etc) lies in the complexity and opposition of character's to one another. For example:

In Shadowhunters, the tension between Magnus being a warlock and Alec being a Shadowhunter and how they navigate the fact that The Institute and his own family have caused and continue to cause active harm to Magnus and the other Downworlders.

In Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, the extremely contradictory nature of Kaz Brekker's existence and how that impacts his relationship with and to Inej. I wrote a number of Kanej fics because I could not stop thinking about the fact that Kaz and Inej want to touch each other, want to be intimate with each other, and their extensive trauma makes that damn near impossible.

In Pushing Daises, the inability to touch, the tension between loving someone so much and knowing that to touch them would be to kill them is just so fascinating.

In The Old Guard, Joe and Nicky having been together for 900 years when we meet them so you wouldn't think there is a complex tension there per say, but they were on opposite sides of The Crusades and had to work through that to cultivate a literally eternal love. And not just that (honestly less so that) but the tension between their line of work as mercenaries, their immortality, and knowing that one day, completely unannounced that immortality will stop. I could not stop thinking about how many times those two have had to watch each other die, waiting and wondering if their lover would come back to life this time around.

In Bad Buddy, Pat and Pran not only having to navigate their relationship with the incredibly antagonistic relationship between their parents but Pat having to parse through all these years of competition, hatred, fighting, to understand that all this time he's loved Pran.

Lack of reciprocity. This is not to say the relationship has to be completely balanced. I don't think that it is a realistic possibility that every aspect of a romantic relationship exists in perfect harmony. But I've written about this before, my theory as to why so many BL boys get sick, in order to allow the person who has received more of the support throughout the show to care for their partner. I am a very outspoken Enchante anti because I hate Theo so fucking much. Theo's incompetency and Akk's incessant need to help him got Akk fired from his job, Theo lied about Enchante, and Theo moved back to France and made Akk work on his own to earn enough money for a motherfucking plane ticket to France. None of that being marketed as romantic is okay with me.

I haven't posted in months y'all I'm sorry (I literally forgot I had a tumblr account and I had literally no motivation). I haven't been drawing much 😭😭(except for vases and poses for my art exam)

I'm not really into anime anymore, especially BSD. As much as I enjoyed it, the fandom became unbearably cringe and genuinely annoying and I've seen a lot of (in my opinion) creeps. I've been very uncomfortable with the content lately (saying this as someone who makes sex jokes on an every day basis and just generally talks about weird shit). It's honestly gotten to the point where I'm afraid to cosplay from BSD again as I do not want to be associated with the fandom.

Hi, I'm not sure which post or fandom you're referencing? Also not sure what you mean. I don't put random art generated by an Ai on here. I use Ai tools as part of my process to help bring what's in my head to the screen. I have a disability that severely limits the use of my hands, and Ai tools have given me back my ability to create art again. It's been such a blessing to my life, honestly. It was so depressing to spend my entire childhood learning to draw and paint and sculpt, then go to school for it, only to have EDS/MCAS/Epilepsy/detached retinas (amoung other stuff. It sucks, I know) smack me on the nose with a rolled up newspaper in my mid-twenties.

I know there's a lot of misconception about Ai Art right now. What is is, what it isn't. Like those one-shot gens pushed out by people using highly modified ai generators, putting out massive amounts of art that looks super pro but without soul. That's not what I'm doing, but I can totally understand the mixup! What I do doesn't come from a website where a descriptive sentence will give you jaw- dropping art. It's more similar to digital artists using Adobe Photoshop, and is a very involved process requiring days and sometimes weeks of work, several hours a day.

I tried for awhile tho include more about the process, so people can see how hard it is, but this doesn't seem to be the right forum for that. I think Tumblr is maybe more of a "show me the finished stuff" thing? I could be wrong, tho, for sure.

Or, am I miss-tagging? I know a lot of my art is not just fanart, but fanfic fanart. Is that it? I do wanna get my tags right... Hmm

A Harry Potter chapter heading for the fanfiction audiobook Im recording, shown here mid-process. I can see it in my danged ole head, but its over a week in and still struggling. I had to even uninstall/reinstall my entire system when it went belly up due to a bad extension, yargh. The scene is chapter 17 of The Muddy Princess, by Colubrina.

These are a culmination of about a month of work trying to hone in on Taylor Heberts face. I picture her as an amalgamation of about three different awesome women I've known in my life...plus Claudia Black! I think they're pretty good, but not 100%. I'm still trying to find the right place to post my art and discuss with people, but tumblr seems to be not the place for that sort of thing.

hey! I'm sorry if you've answered this/spoken about this before, and if so please just point me in the direction of your previous answer. but I recently had a trans friend who asked me to stop interacting with the wolfstar/marauders fandom. liking/reblogging posts and reading fanfics within the marauders fandom are the only way I interact with jkr/hp. I would not do anything to directly give her money, but my friend's argument is that every like and interaction with the fandom makes it more influential, which translates to more money. as well as not boycotting hp entirely is a slap in the face to trans people. so, I've stopped reblogging content because I don't want to negatively impact my friend or any other trans people, but I don't personally think I'm doing any harm through engaging with fanart/fanfic.

obviously you're engaged in the fandom, so I'm kinda looking to have my opinion validated... but I think you're very smart and that we share similar values, so I respect your thoughts and any advice you have for this situation. thank you <3

honestly anon if ur looking for like a nicely-wrapped post of "here's why it's okay to interact with harry potter fanfiction" then u have probably come to the wrong place, as this is a topic that i still have conflicted feelings about myself! but. if u want a little essay of my thoughts on the matter then here u go xx

so, first of all - yes, obviously i still interact with hp fandom. however, i'm not going to pretend that i don't understand your friend's point. i get the logic behind the argument that giving any attention to any sort of harry potter media in this day and age helps keep harry potter relevant, which contributes to jkr's influence, which is an influence she actively uses to hurt trans people. i understand why ur trans friend would feel hurt or ask u to stop interacting w hp media altogether.

however, trans people are not a monolith, and there are many trans people who continue to interact with hp in a variety of ways. for me, the space i've carved out in fandom over the past year or so has been a little online haven since i have to remain closeted irl for the most part. hp fanfic has been an important outlet for me to explore + express things abt my own trans identity. but i am also very aware that within the broader trans community, i am not one of those who is most vulnerable to jkr's rhetoric + politics. at the end of the day, there are trans people who don't care if you spend money on hp, there are trans people who don't care if u interact with fandom as long as u aren't spending money, there are trans people who think u shouldn't touch hp with a five-foot pole, and all manner of perspectives in between.

for me personally, there are caveats to my interaction with hp + the way i navigate the ethical minefield of jkr. i don't think there is any reason to ever financially contribute to hp, whether that's buying merch or games or going to hp themeparks or whatever, and i discourage people from interacting w hp within the context of any sort of profit economy. i try not to interact with hp in a way that will grow the popularity of the franchise in any way - i post fanfiction on ao3, where the people reading it are gonna be people who are already part of this space that are seeking it out, and i have this tumblr blog which is, essentially, the same deal. i'm not trying to advertise my fic or get people to suddenly develop a new interest in harry potter, if that makes sense. this is part of why tiktok remains a bit of an ethical quagmire for me, because i feel that the way people interact w fic on there often blurs the lines between being inside or outside of a profit economy.

i also think it's important, when interacting with hp in any way, to acknowledge jkr's influence and the inherent shittiness of the source material. i don't think it's enough to go "dobby wrote the books haha!" and act like we can just ignore jkr, bc her shitty politics are built into the book. i think it's important to engage critically and to consider how you're building off the source material and whether ur unintentionally perpetuating the biases in the text by copying and pasting them without further examination. i talk abt this more in this post

and, of course, i think it's important to vocally stand against jkr + her politics, and to support trans people within + outside of fandom spaces in whatever ways you can. i think it's important to stay educated + engage with theory + politics in a way that goes beyond retweeting posts or watching tiktok clips. jkr isn't just transphobic; her sexism, racism, classism, fatphobia, homophobia, ableism, antisemitism, and overall horrible neoliberal politics are very much built into the text of hp, and if u are not actively educating urself on these issues it's gonna be easier to just internalize them without realizing it.

for me, these are all considerations that affect the way i interact with hp + the extent to which i interact with hp. however, there are people out there who would probably tell me to get off my high horse + stop acting like there are more or less ~morally pure~ ways to interact with hp, bc at the end of the day there's no ethical consumption under capitalism and people writing hp fanfiction isn't really harmful in the grand scheme of things. there are other people who would tell me that it doesn't matter what mitigating factors i'm using to justify my hobby; any contribution that keeps people talking about hp keeps jkr relevant, and i should be able to find other shit to write about. and like....i understand the perspectives of both those people, y'know?

i honestly just think this is a decision where every individual needs to weigh the scales themselves and decide what they're okay with. it's not my job to police or justify the ways people do or don't interact w hp media; if someone's interacting with it in a way i don't like, then i block that person or just don't interact with them. if someone sees me interacting w hp fanfic + thinks that makes me a shitty person, then they can think that and we can go on living our separate lives. some trans people continue to find comfort + community in hp fandom spaces, other trans people feel deeply hurt by the continued existence of these spaces. there is no single answer to What Supports Everybody. your relationship with your friend is something specific to your situation that you'll need to take into account when weighing your own feelings about interacting with hp; the only advice i can really offer is that i think it's better to critically consider the various perspectives people have on this issue without reducing it to a black and white case of two sides where one must be right and one must be wrong.

Hey, so I noticed you said Draco was one of your favourite characters and outta curiosity what do you like about Draco? Tumblr and fanfics seem to have this love for him that I’m trying to understand but I’m a confused. I honestly just want someone to explain it to me without getting upset. Personally I never found him to be an interesting character, just the usual high school bully who’s racist and flaunts his parents money and status like he’s earned it himself. I’ve been trying to read more fanfics with him being paired up with him and Hermione or even Harry and Ginny to get a better perspective of what some people are seeing that I’m not but whenever I read a story of him it’s not true to character. They change his personality completely and make him out to he this lonely saint who’s a got this sexy bad boy side (they give him personality traits from Harry, Ron, Hermione and Ginny) and usually drop dead gorgeous. I don’t get it. For me it’s just that if you have to change a character’s personality so much why not just invent a OC? He was never brave, loyal, compassionate, or kind. He was selfish, arrogant, coward, and pompous. The only people he cared about where his parents everyone else were just chess pieces for his plan of survival, even his best friends. Fans usually talk about him crying the toilet but that was because he was scared for his parents life, his is own life, and the task he was handed. He wasn’t a killer and I’ll give him that but I don’t think he was a nice person. He didn’t think about his peers when he brought Death Eaters into the school or when he was about to use Cruico on Harry. I think we saw a glimpse of what he would do in power when Dolores gave it to him. If Voldemort won the war and he was put in a high rank Draco would flaunt it around and hurt innocent people, he wouldn’t kill but he would hurt them. I find the fanart confusing too because he was never good looking, I know people automatically think of the stereotypical “blond hair blue eyed hunk”, but none of his features portrayed in the art are true to character. I feel like fanartist are taking Tom’s good looks and combining it with Draco’s blonde hair. Why can’t he just look like a regular blonde guy? Why does he have to be redeemed to look like some type of sex god? The fanart I see of Ron and Harry is usually geeky scrawny duo, which I get because that’s what they’re like in the book. Hermione on the other hand is usually decent looking or average unless she’s paired with Draco then she gets transformed into a Greek or African goddess. I just don’t get it! When she’s paired with Ron or Harry she’s depicted as a nerdy average looking girl but when she’s with Draco or another Slytherin … wow complete transformation. Are they trying to say unless she didn’t look like a Greek or African goddess the Slytherins wouldn’t be interested? She would have to completely change her appearance to get the Slytherin boys attention? The only ones that would fall for her as she truly looks is Ron and sometimes Harry? I find that insulting to women. I get it if you want a redemption Slytherin character but why not give that to Theo or Blaise? We don’t know much of them and when you read about them you can actually say it might be true to character instead of completely changing a canon characters personality so much to make them seem like a whole new character or morphing multiple canon character’s personality to make Draco 2.0.

yes, draco is one of my favorite characters. not because of what he did or how he acted in the books, but because of where he could go post DH. my preference is a post-war au where we get to see him grow and change and choose to be a better person. but that's because i *LIKE* redemption stories. in fact i would even go so far as to say i prefer them. give me a character who is the worst of the worst, someone mean and horrible and unlikeable, break them down until they're at rock bottom and watch as they put themselves back together better the second time around

you say you've read fics but you feel like his character is changed? that's probably valid... but also you have to remember that dramione has been around since like 2001. no seriously. dramione fics have been on live journal since prisoner of azkaban came out. TWENTY YEARS AGO. i read my first dramione fanfic in seventh grade in 2003.. so you have to remember that there is a lot fandom has adopted and adapted in that amount of time and things that are considered staples of the genre if you will. just like how we (in our little hinny corner of the internet) have headcanons and dynamics that are considered universal, dramione has the same thing.

"fans usually talk about him crying in the toilet but that was because he was scared for his parents life, his own life, and the task he was handed." you are almost there, you are so close to getting the point. just follow that line of thinking just a little bit further... half blood prince/deathly hallows is the START of his redemption. not the end of it. at least in my view. draco gets his first real taste of the ideology he has bought into in half-blood prince when he realizes his family's name or his money or his status no longer grants him favor. in fact he's pretty much a pariah, in the inner circle of the death eaters for his father getting caught, and in the outer realms of wizard society for his father being outed as a death eater. this is the BEGINNING of his arc. if you look at deathly hallows!draco you see a kid who can't make up his mind which side he wants to be on. that year during the war he witnessed unspeakable atrocities (countless people tortured & murdered in and out of school, classmates held prisoner in his cellar, the muggle studies professor eaten alive on his dining room table) and if you take all of that and put it into a scared seventeen year old (no matter his house alignment) you end up with a person who has no ideals left. they deal in realities. we see this when harry, ron, & hermione get snatched. draco is visibly and clearly reluctant to identify them. he knows its them. WE KNOW HE KNOWS. but maybe he's reached a point where he doesn't want to see any more torture and murder. maybe he's reached a point where he thinks harry is the only one left who can defeat voldemort and he doesn't want to be the guy responsible for putting an end to the rebellion. then during the BoH.. maybe draco sees the writing on the wall, he sees and thinks that voldemort has won, that's why he takes crabbe and goyle into the room of requirement to look for harry, because if voldemort is going to reign supreme, he sure as hell is going to try and find favor. the point is, you can add whatever context you want for his actions. in my opinion, by the end of deathly hallows, grey isn't even a character alignment anymore for draco, its a cold hard truth. in his mind, there is no overarching good in the world, there is only what people are and are not willing to do to each other in the name of power. that's an excellent jumping off point to try and put together an enemies to lovers, redemption story romance.

i don't have much to say about the fanart piece except for there is no superiority when it comes to the way we create and consume fan works. full stop. no one is better or worse for interpreting the character a certain way. pretty hermione, ugly hermione, harmony, dramione, romione, it doesn't matter. no one gets to say what is right or wrong when it comes to enjoying fiction. because at the end of the day, draco and hermione are not real. they are tools for a narrative. they are make believe. they can be whatever someone wants them to be.

the last point i want to address is this: "i get if you want a redemption slytherin character but why not give that to theo or blaise?" blaise had exactly one speaking scene in the entire series and theo had none. what sort of redemption do they have to earn?? that's the whole point of redemption stories, someone gets redeemed and who has more to atone and apologize for than draco?

if you really are interested in a draco redemption story i have several recs that actually address and work through his school bully/junior death eater phase and show him coming out of it as a much more humble and well adjusted individual. i have my reasons for liking him paired with hermione but those are personal to me and since you didn't really ask i won't get into it just now.

I really love my online friends who I've made because of this fandom, and I love having mutuals here on tumblr to yell at about Bleach, and I simply adore all the silent people who like my posts all the time even if we don't chat, I appreciate you all

Because it gets so hard sometimes irl when I want to gush about Bleach but my friends or family either politely turn the topic of conversation somewhere else or flat out tell me to shut the fuck up

And it gets really annoying when I sit and listen to them go on and on and on about whatever dating sim they're currently playing, or about how Jojo is top tier anime, or how Attack on Titan is peak writing, or they brag about how they know every detail of the Harry Potter books, how they can't wait for the next Pokemon game, etc

And listen, all of those things are great (I'm serious, whatever you like is valid and I'm not here to judge it, and ofc I'm a Potterhead too lol), and I'm so happy that my friends are passionate about those things, but they won't let me talk about Bleach. Or they won't even pretend to be interested. And I've spent hours listening to them talk about their special interests but they won't even give me 5 minutes to talk about how awesome the first anime episode in 10 years was

So honestly, I'm super grateful for sites like tumblr that let fans meet. You have no idea how much a silly little edit of the Karakura Gang makes me smile, or how badly I gush over any fanart of Hollow Ichigo.

Because this fandom means a lot to me. It inspired me to write, and now I'm a published author. Waiting for the next episode or chapter gave me something to look forward to when it felt like my life was falling apart. When I was depressed, it gave me an escape. And now, when my anxiety is at an all-time high, it gives me somewhere to vent in the form of fanfiction.

So yeah, when I say "I love Bleach" I mean I love everything about it: the story, the characters, the fandom, the inspiration it gives me, the hope that things would get better when I was younger (and things did)! And when someone can't give me 5 minutes to talk about why I love it so much, it just hurts

So thank you guys for being here. Thanks for reading my stories and liking my silly little headcanons and my not-terrible but definitely room-for-imrovement drawings haha

The media’s portrayal of Jon Stewart criticism of the Harry Potter goblins honestly explains a lot about fandom puritanism and social media mobs.

The tl;dr for anyone who is out of the loop is that on a podcast in December, Jon Stewart criticized the goblins in Harry Potter as being antisemitic in their depiction/origin - which is true, and people have been saying that for years.

As far as I know, though, he only called the tropes and goblins themselves antisemitic, not JKR herself. Yet now multiple media outlets are claiming that Jon Stewart accused her of antisemtism - and now, claiming Stewart is trying to walk back or deny his criticism when he rightfully says he did not.

And honestly, this explains a lot about the telephone game the media has become in the age of social-media and Internet dominated news.

A Statement to Leadership from the LGBTQIA+ Employees of Pixar & Their Allies

We are writing because we are disappointed, hurt, afraid, and angry. In regards to Disney’s financial involvement with legislators behind the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, we hoped that our company would show up for us. But it didn’t.

Monday’s email, “Our Unwavering Commitment to the LGBTQ+ Community”, rang hollow. It began with the claim that Disney has a long history of supporting the LGBT community, but Disney Parks did not officially host Pride until 2019, in Paris alone. Disney has a history of shutting down fan-created Pride events in the parks, even removing same-sex couples for dancing together in the 1980’s. Additionally, Disney began capitalizing on Pride in 2018 with The Rainbow Mickey Collection, (while de-emphasizing the terms like LGBTQ+ and not even featuring explicitly LGBTQIA+ pieces such as Pride flag pins until 2021). To this end, it feels terrible to be a part of a company that makes money from Pride merch when it chooses to “step back” in times of our greatest need, when our rights are at risk.

The second claim stated that “corporate statements do very little to change outcomes or minds”. However, the very email making this claim opened with a corporate statement regarding the ongoing situation in Ukraine. Eight days after Russia invaded Ukraine, Disney paused the release of theatrical films in Russia and announced “We will make future business decisions based on the evolving situation.” Following the siege on the capital in 2021, Disney stopped all political donations to members of Congress who had objected to the presidential election results. In 2016, Disney told the state of Georgia: “We will plan to take our business elsewhere should any legislation allowing discriminatory practices be signed into state law” in response to the controversial Religious Liberty bill. By taking a stand, Disney directly affected the legislative outcome in Georgia. It has been proven that Disney’s corporate statements can and do make a difference.

Finally, we come to the push for Content as the answer. We at Pixar have personally witnessed beautiful stories, full of diverse characters, come back from Disney corporate reviews shaved down to crumbs of what they once were. Nearly every moment of overtly gay affection is cut at Disney’s behest, regardless of when there is protest from both the creative teams and executive leadership at Pixar. Even if creating LGBTQIA+ content was the answer to fixing the discriminatory legislation in the world, we are being barred from creating it. Beyond the “inspiring content” that we aren’t even allowed to create, we require action.

We are calling on Disney leadership to immediately withdraw all financial support from the legislators behind the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, to fully denounce this legislation publicly, and to make amends for their financial involvement. While signing on to donate to the HRC is a step in the correct direction, the shareholder meeting on Wednesday made it clear that this is not enough. Throughout the shareholder meeting, Disney did not take a hard stance in support of the LGBTQIA+ community, they instead attempted to placate “both sides” – and did not condemn hateful messages shared during the question and answer portion of the meeting. This is not what it means to “unequivocally stand in support of our LGBTQ+ employees, their families, and their communities.”

Disney taking a stand by honoring their company values has changed the course of legislation in the past. If Disney is true in its values, it will take a decisive public stand against the discriminatory legislation occurring in Florida and offer tangible support for the LGBTQIA+ communities affected by bigoted legislation sweeping the country. Stand against this bill in Florida and against the similar bills in South Carolina, Arizona, Virginia, and Tennessee. Stand against the transphobic legislation in Texas, Iowa, Utah, Kansas, Indiana, Louisiana, Missouri, and Alabama. Many hateful groups are attempting to eradicate us through legislation – we need you to stand with us entirely, not in empty words.

This matter is not something that can wait until Reimagine Tomorrow in April, or Pride Month in June. This matter needs to be addressed now. This is urgent. 42% of LGBTQIA+ youth seriously considered suicide in 2021, including more than half of transgender and nonbinary youth, with a large factor being the lack of support that these discriminatory legislations enable. Disney claims to care for the welfare of children, but supporting politicians like this directly hurts one of their most vulnerable audiences. There are lives at stake and Disney’s support could save those lives. “We still have more work to do,” your email said. This is that work.

Disney has not publicly responded to Pixar’s claims, but after criticism over its belated response to the just-passed “Don’t Say Gay” bill, the $148.5-billion-dollar company pledged an astonishingly meager $5 million to “nonprofit organizations that advance social justice. The Human Rights Campaign advocacy group has refused to take the money—which is, for the record, 0.00003367 percent of Disney’s net worth—until the company takes more substantive action to combat the bill.

the tumblr staff situation is wild bc i was under the impression they knew this person was actively a terf but no. she just likes harry potter. and while i refuse to be friends with anyone who likes harry potter considering its massive influence i don’t think anyone can be considered 100% a terf if they like it?? additionally i don’t want to be friends with anyone who likes aot but i don’t think it makes someone a nazi just by virtue of watching it. also people are accusing her of being a pedo because she… aged up a pair of preschoolers….. to draw them cuddling? like was just like awww they have a crush on each other, i wonder what they would look like as adults dating, which i think is pretty normal behavior?? its not shipping an adult with a kid and aging up the kid, and the fanart doesn’t even have kissing….. like the callout posts are just insane tumblr overreaction.

what DOES matter is someone on staff decided to nuke someone’s post about this, proving they are capable of actually moderating the site but apparently are choosing not to do it. it honestly doesn’t matter to me the actions of this individual woman on her personal blog. what does matter is staff can delete the blogs of violent terfs and nazis and they just don’t. that’s what’s fucked up!

Holy Fuck!

Lisa and i just woke up from a 16 hour “nap”...

all because of... well technically the youtube algorithm...

...let me explain

Saturday evening we were sitting on the couch just browsing through youtube on our phones because there was nothing to watch (sure we have Netflix, Amazon Prime, Disney Plus, Crunchyroll, WWE Network and a dvd collection bigger than our steam library but still) and immediately on of the first recommended videos was a livestream from Elira Pendora...

a watchalong of the Lord of the Rings trilogy...

and the livestream had just started 10 minutes ago... so we thought ‘hey why not?’ and put on the stream and the movies.

(if you’re wondering why i’m blaming the algorithm. that’s because we originally just wanted to find something to watch until Clash at the Castle started but then we saw Eliras stream and, while I’m subscribed to Elira, if that stream hadn’t been on the starting page we probably wouldn’t have seen it immediately and only would have watched the VOD whenever we had our next LotR marathon)

now we actually do these movie marathons quite regularly. for example we watch all 8 Harry Potter movies every christmas. but usualy we do these with some preparation...

normally a typical marathon for us looks like this:

-we take a few days off at work (or schedule them for weekends with holidays)

-after we wake up we eat breakfast and immediately start the first movie

-we take 15 Minute breaks between movies

-we go to bed immediately after the last movie

-we take a couple days to get our sleep schedule back to normal

this time we did precisely none of that because:

A)we had already been awake since 8 in the morning on saturday.

B)the stream started at 8 in the evening for us

C) Lisas mothers birthday was on sunday so we had to stay awake even after the watchalong.

and D) we both have work again today.

so we were awake for 32 hours assuming i did the math right (wouldn’t have been a problem 10 years ago but we’re both 28 now and... well we just can’t do that anymore) and by the end of it we felt like shit. but honestly it was a lot of fun...

we can basically already dub these movies ourselves from memory because we’ve seen them so often but this watchalong brought something new into the mix. it started with Elira, Rosemi, Fulgur, Sonny and Shu but  Vox, Pomu, Luca and Yugo all made appearances along the way and while some of them (i believe only Vox and Fulgur) had seen the movies already, hearing the others experience them for the first time was really cool and we will probably put the VOD on whenever we do another marathon in the Future. also i kinda hope someone does a Harry Potter or Star Wars watchalong sometime because those are the three movie series we do marathons of the most. (Or a MCU watchalong so we can finally catch up with that. The last MCU movie we watched was age of ultron)

anyway i need to get to work in 30 minutes so i’ll stop now but now that i have posted this i will do something in the next few days and weeks that i wanted to do for a while now: talk about Vtubers... because there is a lot i have to say about them and i was kinda discouraged because whenever i look around Tumblr i just see a lot of fanart but nearly nothing else and since i don’t do fanart i was kinda afraid to post anything but now i made one post so...

...why not make a few more right?

This whole thing is so weird. Liking a piece of media doesn’t mean you endorse the creators views. A drawing of two aged up child characters standing next to each other isn’t pedophilia. Being able to remove one post and person from the site completely doesn’t mean it’s a feasible thing to implement side wide. Tumblr has like 200 staff. There’s probably more of the posts we all want gone made every minute than there are tumblr staff members. Moderation has got to get better but responding to this with “so you could do this all along and just choose not to” is ridiculous. Completely removing the post and blogger does seem like an overreaction but given she’s deleted or privated most of her socials (importantly without hiding the stuff on her tumblr people had issues with, so this isn’t an attempt to hide it) and also given how many people seem to think “this person likes Harry Potter” is a callout of a horrific act of bigotry I feel like there may be some stuff that went on privately in terms of harassment. Like this still seems quite over the top but maybe not as much as it seems with the info we have. I find it hard to believe this went down in the way everyone is reading it. Very chronically online moment from the tumblr user base today. Especially given that half of them are literally enjoying Dracula right now.

You are absolutely correct, someone's fictional taste does not dictate their moral or political stances. And this is super weird. I'm mostly cocking my head because like... she called a staff member a freak and a terf and then was surprised when it... got her nuked.

You raise good points about whether the ban and deletion is mass implementable, because yeah, it likely isn't. I do think how staff responded is ridiculous, but that's due to the extreme normalcy of harassment on here. Suicide baiting is common. Harassment and ban evasion are common. In the past if not now, mass reported blogs could be taken down without someone actually reviewing whether the reports were accurate. So this feels a little like "ah, so some people are more equal than others, I understand".

re: the person who got banned, whose name I'm keeping out of my blog where possible... I'd honestly say that her name being attached to the call out is pretty damning: it's making serious accusations (it calls someone a predator and a nazi) over fanart. Maybe not the smartest move, in addition to being wildly disconnected from reality. Staff are bigger fish than no-name bloggers.

It's been two days and I'm already exhausted by the number of "they were banned for calling staff an HP fan!" takes. Her screenshots have her calling a staff member a freak for liking Attack on Titan. I don't know about you, but my back goes up when I see the word "freak". It's usually trotted out by a very specific and very pro-harassment group on here. And I don't have any faith in "i didn't tell anyone to go harass her" because as far as I can tell... that particular group doesn't need to be told.

Now, I'm gonna assume the she who hid her socials is the staff member because... honestly, I'm not following this very closely, and hopefully I can keep that up. But uhh, if she wasn't getting harassed before this I'm sure she is now. I haven't been able to escape this and it's only been two days, I might log out for a week or so.

LOL. Dracula is different because (incoherent mumbling noises) and antisemitism only counts when it was done in the... 2000's? I don't know, it's late and I'm tired, and your post is excellent, thanks for taking the time to write it. It brightened my mood :)

Weird Thoughts on Lucius' Visuals

Well, i knew Lucius from a supposedly porn comic series on Deviantart. That's just fucked up to think about sometimes.

Let's talk about Jason's Interferences. Yes, he's potentially yassifiedable for being a slick and dramatic character in the books, but he's not supposed to have long hair...You know the L'oreal memes, basically all the hair-related memes...those are my tween-age cornerstone lmao.

Movie Lucius look is mostly based on Jason Isaacs' Preferences. This image's authority is questionable, it's not mine either, but i think it resembles what i imagined in the books

He's a racist character, Jason thought, which makes clear of him to not dressed like muggles (or pretty much like Arthur Weasley and possibly other protagonists). This later shaped his major movie looks. He asked for longer hair to distinguish him from Draco, he also asked for exaggerated coat, and of course, THE CANE! Yes, Jason Isaacs literally carried the whole Lucius' character on the screen. He designed his character, played his character, even asked JK to make a final statement for Lucius in Deathly Hallows because he's supposed to not appear anymore, She granted it eventually.

For me it's very obvious. I love to see artists being passionate about their lifeworks. I didnt blame Jason Isaacs for being a good looking person and i understand some fans really foreseeing it first (i am too honestly). But i think that is the ultimate juice about Lucius' character on the screen, It's just really cool...

Oh if only i have better words to explain all my love for him arghh..it's just not enough..

Move on to the fanarts. Most of them are either gay looking or daddy looking like the image i showed you earlier. There's no hate on that...i might have some preferences, but more on that later..

I noticed some platforms/regions have their unique visualization styles. Tumblr is just being tumblr, so is twitter, instagram, they actually have quite similar artist culture. Deviantart and Livejournal archives was obviously legendary. TikTok is also unique for being a short video platform, i've seen numerous Lucius/Jason edit in thirst trap manner, which i happened hard consuming it. Russian fans are likely prone to rare ships like malfoycest, Chinese fans are surprisngly active on hp fandom despite being shown only in mainland platforms, and i've seen some good stuffs coming from Japanese hp artists. I'ts questionable whether there's actually official anime illustration of Harry Potter in japan or if it's just being a regional trend. but i often seen him being drawn in white hair instead of blond (Draco and Narcissa is still drawn blond anyway). i don't know why i liked it...

Personaly i want to see more of Lucius in dynamic clothing (very much like Draco) which explain why i love him in Deathly Hallows part 1 so much. in this case i'd refer to Pelegrin-tn and Opalchalice. their photo manipulations are my favorite.

As for my personal art direction, you'll often see me keeping his stubble from DH and umm in other case might be his post-azkaban mental instability...for noble purposes...HAHAH, but i also have a thing for making his hair wavy rather than straight, i did also love to imagine his hair cut shoulder-short like Severus.

you’re 29??! i can’t believe it!! i just turned 23 and i was feeling really ashamed of still being involved in fandom. not to mention, still reading fanfic. i know the hp fandom is really old but i always assumed the older fans just kinda left as they got older and started careers and families. now i’m starting to wonder how many of the hp (and drarry) blogs i follow are run by people that are around 30! also, i don’t wanna make it seem like i think you’re old. i honestly don’t!!! i guess i just had this idea that people naturally lose interest in their fandoms as they get older and i’m amazed (and relieved) that’s not the case!
