Accepting the loss of your animal companion

Namazu.

Of all the ventures you wished to undertake, under the cover of nightfall, you requested to visit them. I admit, I was anticipating to spend a few bells under the lingering blooms that clung to the end of this summer's season, where I may read to you my poorly crafted haiku and you indulged me with your most gentle smile.

But we find ourselves here, far from the tranquility of the gardens and whispers of the cool evening air, it is all replaced by the jubilant cries of わっしょい ( Wasshoi ) as a palanquin arrived at your feet expectantly and seperated us; I was suspicious that these catfish were quite aware already of what you were. I should have known, you appeared to be among welcomed company gave no motion of protest as they lead you to the yagura stage and helped you up.

Surrounding you, their small forms danced and squeaked, their bells scintillate with the splashes of amber that washed over from the torches alit around you, and rang loudly as if to announce to the kami of your performance. The drums sound like thunder, resonating into the electrified, charged ambient.

How many times have you done this, escaped your well constructed gilded cage, and gave yourself permission to simply enjoy an evening free from the burdens of your duty?

I had reservations about the company you kept up there, finding their behaviors unusual and often frivolous, but you appeared drawn to them. And in turn, they seemed to appreciate your company and excitedly cheered you on as your fans flew into the air and your silks billowed around your form. You did not appear to tire, instead, your smile grew and your face was aglow with radiance.

I wanted to bottle up that expression, this unadulterated joy painted across your features. When the dance concluded, you were busied by the school of catfish that wished to speak with you.

Seems I would await my chance.

Meanwhile, I would not squander this opportunity, of course, to introduce myself to the others, one look at their goods and I already saw a chance at profit.

I know, it is rather difficult to break away from old habits.

It was just a few moments that I stepped away from your side to spark some conversations, it was not long, and the squeaks take a bit of getting used to. However, short these conversations were, when I turned to find you, you had separated from your friends and stood alone from the group, staring at a single bell.

In the moons I have come to know you, I realized that there is yet so much to unravel about the silent world you live in. I often catch you staring off into the darkness, a melancholic expression veils your features, it is the same look you wear now, unblinking.

"M'lady Takahashi, is there something bothering you? Are you tired?" I hope to break you from the trance you seem to be in, perhaps my tone betrayed me and revealed my concerns, nevertheless, you break from your reverie with a soft, reassuring smile; light glimmered in your auric gaze when they met mine and I scraped the emotion in my voice as I became pleasantly overwhelmed to find that naught was amiss.

"Would you like me to purchase it for you, M'lady?" I had to bite back the desire to call her something more personal, but in present company I kept myself in check and instead I patiently waited for her response.

In truth, I could grant her anything she wished. I would find a means to do it, empty my coffers if she desired it of me, all she had to do was ask.

But she never did.

..And I doubt she would now.

I immediately feel something in my chest tightened and a faint whisper of tension ran along the curve of my jaw as her hands extend forward, signaling that she wished to speak. Anticipation begins to burrow its way into my core.

❛ In another time, when I was but a young girl still fresh to the world and all of its majesty, my parents would take me with them to the shrines with offerings. Back then you would see the suzu: bells much like the one before us. I would rush quickly to the shrine, leaving my parents behind, just to tug on the rope with all my might and ring them. The beautiful sound would sink into my bones and my heart felt full to near bursting at how they echoed into the air. At first, I had no recognition of what their purpose was until my father explained it to me the last time we visited. We ring it to call the kami, to repel evil spirits that would dare tread near, it was a means to conserve the sanctity of the sacred grounds. Unfortunately, the shrine was turned to rubble and ash, forgotten by the people and overrun by flora. It is a monument of simpler days that I have been working on restoring. When I visited years ago, I could find no sign of the bells, but their music lives on in my heart. Perhaps I may appear silly to come here and join the Namazu, but the sound of their own bells, how they ring with unbridled joy, part of me hopes that the kami may hear them. Since I can no longer ring them myself. ❜

Everything you do is intentional, I am starting to understand that. After your hands returned to fold each other at your chest, I felt the words I wanted to say lodged in my throat. There was nothing I could say, instead my actions will speak at length of my intentions.

From the Namazu, I made purchase of this bell, and though they barely asked for much of me, I gave them plentiful to provide this as an offering to you and the shrine you have cared for.

"If you will allow me in honoring not only your father's memory, but to bring to life the melody that has lived on in your heart. I wish to place this upon the altar of your shrine." When the words finally came, it was a dam of emotions that poured from me that could not be likened to any poem that I have written you.

There was something profound and intimate in opening up to someone, to feel something inside you thaw away from the warmth the other person emits. Sharing this with you, being welcomed into your shrine, a hallowed place, is the highest honor.

I placed the bell on the altar and hoped that the kami would hear its, hollow, beautiful sound and return here, where you will be waiting. That you will be protected when I am not around, and others may watch over you in your solitude.

I may not win any favors with your now father, but perhaps the one that loved you just as dearly will know that you never forgot his teachings, and perhaps he may grant me the blessing of allowing me to remain at your side. To help you repair what you hold dear to your heart.

And to have an abundance of opportunities to ring bells at any future shrines we visit..

you open your shoe locker and a letter falls out, landing at your feet with its back side upwards to you. your name was written in familiar cursive—your best friend, suzue, had written it—and around it were heart shaped stickers obnoxiously stickered to form an even bigger heart around your name. at first glance, you could assume that the letter was from the girl herself; however, upon opening it, you were met with a typed up letter in 12pt times new roman. 

and you half cringe. 

“Dearest Y/N,

I am typing this letter to let you know of my feelings for you. I have thunk well and hard about the way you maketh thy muscle in mines chest swell, and butterflies appear within the linings of my stomach.

For a while now I’ve actually been thinking about confessing to you. Time feels like it’s running out for some reason and maybe it’s because I feel like someone else just might confess to you before I do. So I thought now was the best time. So here I am… Suzue said it’d be super funny to confess like this and I’m not going to lie, it is pretty funny and interesting, especially once I hit you with the plot twist. You are, simply put, someone I adore and only wish good things for. You’ve made me feel plenty of things throughout the time we’ve known each other and sometimes (most times) I don’t have the words to describe them. I get all giddy around you, whether it’s because you’re smiling for yourself or smiling for me. Maybe especially when you’re smiling for yourself—seeing you happy on its own just makes me happy (and wouldn’t you say that’s enough for us to know I’ve got a crush on you? haha). I’m not sure whether or not this sounds much like a confession now that I think about it, but I don’t want to be cringe-y and unoriginal by saying things like oh you’re so beautiful, oh you make my heart skip a beat, oh I wanna hold hands with you (I do)—I wanted to be a little more unique so that it’d be memorable, you know??? So, if it doesn’t seem as romantic, just read it like it is! haha.

Would just like to announce to the JJ fandom that I never realized until my fourth (FOURTH!!!) Playthrough how similar each character is to eachother.

SPOILERS FOR SOME ROUTES! (Not Kai's and Neji's obviously because I haven't done them yet—)

Fugio is obsessed with Chichi and has been for a very long time now, and yet besides this he had never been found out until the very end and when Fugio goes to repent, we never know how his feelings are resolved or if he ever loses interest. Sou's whole reasoning to going to Univeil was because of Kisa, and the others don't realize his feelings towards Kisa until after Oh Rama, Havenna and that's why Mitsuki is originally chosen as Al Jeanne, because they realized the extent of Sou's feelings for Kisa and wanted to atleast make it a bit less obsessive until that was thrown out the window by Sou figuratively trying to throw the performance. In the end he learns how to control himself and not discount others for Kisa similar to how Fugio repents and invites Jire with him, the very man he was fighting with when courting Chichi.

Miguel is IN LOVE LOVE with Rukiora, that much is obvious. In Fumi's ad-libbing of Miguel, he speaks of spending his nights awake thinking of Rukiora before he is forced to sleep. Alongside this, Miguel puts in flippant flirting with his true feelings to Rukiora. This completely mimics Fumi and how it's revealed that he has wanted Kisa the entire time and how he was mixing stupid flirting with his real flirting. And you know what happens in the end? Miguel gets enough money to move back to his home. Fumi graduates and gets a place to live in for the Tamasaka theater, not including how he resolves his family situation after Oh Rama, Havenna just like how Miguel went back to his family. Except Miguel didn't get the girl and Fumi does.

Shirota... oh my goodness the implications. Rukiora is probably the only character who genuinely doesn't know Chichi's lies and still cares for Chichi. She will go out of her way for Chichi, as shown in singing another song because of Chichi, and even gets mad at herself when she feels betrayed for Chichi lying to her. Shirota, while not such a happy go lucky person like Rukiora, he cares for Kisa immensely. He gets protective when Minorikawa gets a little too comfortable with Kisa and always accounts for Kisa. He is the person who is constantly watching her and making sure she is okay, as shown in the summer when he noticed she wanted to swim but for some reason couldn't and so instead they both find shelter in a nice cave that reflected the water. Another similarity is how Shirota feels betrayed by Kisa in at least two of the affection events, but still cares for her. He feels betrayed because Kisa doesn't trust him even though Kisa has helped him, and so now he wants her to rely on him. He is upset she can't trust him, similar to how Rukiora feels betrayed because of the lack of truth with Chichi. However, both end the same with Rukiora and Shirota forgiving Chichi and Kisa and it ends happily. The final scene with the priest even makes sense as well! Shirota forgives Kisa, like how Chichi is forgiven by Rukiora, but Kisa and Chichi continue to lie. However, now with the way it's framed, with Shirota knowing Kisa's secret and being okay with her lying, it feels more like Rukiora knows and actively accepts this fact about Chichi like Shirota who knows Kisa's secret and still lets her lie. He no longer feels betrayed by this fact, and he even admits after the performance that he knew for awhile, but was more hurt by the fact that Kisa didn't trust him with that information, which puts Rukiora into even MORE perspective. Rukiora says when Miguel lies about the Bakuu cookie being Mugwort flavor that at least he was being honest, indicating that if Chichi came out with the truth instead of having it forcefully come out, Rukiora probably wouldn't have felt so betrayed. I could go forever on this character haha

Suzu, while I haven't completed his route yet, is almost an open book in this. The biggest thing of note is how his feelings are kept so far away from Chichi. Jire cares for Chichi, loves her even, but never actively shows it until it blows over in his face. So far, Suzu seems to have liked Kisa for awhile, but has constantly pushed it down and away, constantly keeping it out of his— and by extension Kisa's— reach. Similar to how Jire doesn't let Chichi know his feelings till the very last moment. Also interesting to note the dynamic of both Jire and Fugio, because they are complete opposites to Suzu and Sou but if you look a little closer they are very much similar. Fugio is a showman first and foremost, but underneath lies heavy love and even heavier obsession, and that is Sou. Despite Sou being awkward and shy and nervous, in the final performance he can break out of it and become someone he is confident to be, and that is a showman. Now Jire, Jire layers his feelings with other things, hides and squashes it because he doesn't want to have hive feelings blown back into his face by a rejection because he knows he has nothing to offer Chichi, and that is Suzu. Suzu however is bright and cheerful and definitely shows his emotions, yet he also buries them. He likes Kisa but can't admit it to himself, he suspects Kiss is a girl but can't come to terms with that. He layers these feelings with training and cheer and jokes, because at the end of it all he is scared to lose what he has with Kisa. He cares for her, likes her, and doesn't want to ruin that friendship with her during Oh Rama, Havenna. It's also really interesting how often Jire and Fugio butt heads, especially because Sou and Suzu aren't like that unless you count the Fall Performance, which is where I bet Neji definitely got inspiration. However if you take into account how both of them like Kisa, and both of them are first and foremost worried about Kisa when they have a falling out, it makes a bit more sense. Anyways I love all of these kiddos and I will do something more indepth with Suzu when I finish his route (HOPEFULLY SOON!!!!)

Hello! I don't know if op who submitted the asked to you about anzu lore & engirls is going to elaborate, but I want to drop my two cents too since I do like Anzu and find Engirls so interested. I'm sorry if I'm repeating anything you already know and I'm not an engirls expert either so i could be wrong about some of these.

Since you mentioned Engirls Protag and the war, here's the timeline that I believe under the common assumption that EG takes place alongside ES!! (given that Suzu and the bunch, who graduates in the end of EG was Anzu's old classmates and friends)

Anzu is a year older than her little step-brother (protag of Engirls who most fans seems to call Tenn(kousei-kun)). Basically in Anzu's 1st year of high school, she attended Kimisaki Academy, and Tenn was in his last year of middle school. Anzu and the Troublemakers' failed revolution occurred then (supported by the fact that Azusa was a second year in middle school during Paradise), and she suffers from bullying until she decides to transfer to Yumenosaki during her second year. By then, Tenn is in his first year, attending Yumenosaki as well.

In ! Era Anzu has told one of the characters (I forgot who) that her brother doesn't want to be associated with her when they are on campus and to pretend that they don't know each other (but he's at least nice enough to help her promote Trickstar to his fellow general course peers for her during DDD). Generally they have a somewhat strained relationship, which was surmised by various ES and EG characters as teen angst + his inferiority complex with his sister.

By !! Era, Anzu is in her third year, and Kimisaki Academy have decided to go co-ed, leading Tenn to transfer there (don't remember if there are actual reasons stated in-game or if he's just dropped there with no explanation). Due to that, Tenn was able to help the students of Kimisaki, mend their relationships, help Anzu reconnect with her old friends, and talk more with his sister. Anzu actually gets mentioned quite often in EnGirls, like how she makes his bento lunch, Seira sneaking into Yumenosaki to see her, drives her friend Natsumi to school, and etc.

Unlike Anzu who is an only-girl in Yumenosaki's idol course because she's a last minute decided test subject for the producer course (either her or her family most likely agreed out of desperation to be able to transfer), Tenn seems like he's the only-boy in Kimisaki just because he's the only one who enrolled?

There's lot of parts that are implied but still lies in the realm of headcanon/speculation. Like how EnGirls makes it clear that the reason Anzu transferred was due to the bullying she received as the target for the actions of the Troublemakers, since she was always a slacker who the teachers already disliked, but in the EnStars novels she says it's because of family circumstance. Although in the same novel, she (and Chizuru in the novel extra Crosstalk) does give a nod to the events of Paradise, regretting leaving her friends behind and running away; meaning that for Anzu transferring was not because of the bullying, but her own cowardice (although the bullying was pretty bad it was school-wide). For Tenn, the step-siblings have always been described as close growing up, but they have seem to have grown distant lately. Apparently, Tenn had even lived away from their family for a while. One could speculate that maybe he transferred out of Yumenosaki and into Kimisaki (both schools are in the same neighborhood) to get away from his sister, who at that point have probably gained notoriety as a the sole producer of the academy. Given that some stories make it a theme to validate Tenn, and tell him that he's a different person to his sister who is also great and deserves his own happiness, supports this in my opinion.

I'm sorry if this is so long, I hope it isn't rude or anything, it's just that many people have made me aware of how interesting Anzu's character, backstory and current arcs are and I wanted to share that to anyone else that might be interested too. She's pretty complex and well-written if you cherry pick all the stuff about her specifically from the stories, which is why I can understand why many fans consider her as her own character and more than a self-insert.

NO THIS ISN'T RUDE AT ALL, ANON!!! I am literally shaking your hand, thanking you. I'm a little curious as WHAT the Kimisaki revolution was right now....and what part Anzu played.

But STARS I LOVE THIS SO MUCH. You don't understand how much I love this....Anzu predates the Enstars games, firstly (cause I heard engirls was released first). The thing about her being a legacy of engirls, haunting its narrative (at least it seems that her shadow is cast over the engirls era pretty widely), and then switching to a viewer and casting her shadow on the Enstars boys??

I was so wrong in my post about her except also not because her self-insert-ness still feels somewhat significant. Except she's like...a very strange bridge between the player and the characters, existing in both worlds (her and her brother, it seems).

Anyway, Anzu lore is SO cool and I'll have to reread this again to fully appreciate it because man, I love this!

For dinner today Kaori has invited Mt Komorebi mayor Hiro and his wife Suzu who is also on the town council. Kaori wants to discuss the possibility of purchasing the downtown park, rather than letting it be purchased by developers.

Hiro: It’s good to see you again Kaori

Suzu: It was nice to invite us

Kaori: I know you knew my grandparents

Hiro: Oh yes. Shigeru and Sachiko were always looking out for the area

Suzu: We were so sorry to hear about their passing. They may not have been official council employees but many there would go to them for advice

Kaori: Come in, please. We can eat and talk

Hiro: Are you related to my wife

Kaori: I… what?

Hiro: Anytime she wants me to change my mind she cooks a brilliant meal

Kaori: *laughs* Maybe we do have that in common

Suzu: How can we help Kaori

Kaori: Last time we talked you said the council was open to offers on Hazakura Park

Hiro: We are

Kaori: Could I buy it

Suzu: You want to buy the park? Why?

Kaori: It’s sort of hard to explain. My grandparents and I… well, they saw our family as sort of the protectors of the area, the guardians of the mountain type thing

Hiro: That makes sense, they were always so generous

Kaori: My wife and I were hoping to carry on that role. If we buy Hazakura Park we can keep it as a park. That way while developers may buy up the surrounding area, the residents will still have a park to gather in as a community

Hiro: We have had a few purchase offers. Most notable the Ito’s

Kaori: The Ito’s? Right

Hiro: But make an offer and the council will decide on the best buyer

The dinner wraps up and Kaori begins cleaning up. Before the couple leave Suzu pulls Kaori aside to talk.

Suzu: Are you okay? You seemed sad when Hiro mentioned the Ito’s

Kaori: Yeah… I dated their son Kiyoshi in high school. It did not end well. But when we were together I did learn how his father operates. He overbids on land, sweeps in to make a profit, and then leaves

Suzu: That doesn’t sound good for the area. Unfortunately Naoki has made a large offer, the council would take a lot of persuading to turn that down. But maybe…

Kaori: Maybe what

Suzu looks around to make sure her husband is distracted by the soccer game on the TV that Charlie is playing in.

Suzu: Here, I’ll give you the direct contact number for the business. I’m not meant to have it, and if anyone asks me I’ll deny it

Kaori: Why are you giving it to me then

Suzu: I don’t want to see our home overrun with poor quality, over expensive housing any more than you do. Good luck. Hiro! We should get going

Hiro: Your wife sure can kick. Please tell her I think she did a great job in that first half

Kaori: I will. Thank you for coming

Charlie: Did the dinner go alright

Kaori: Yes and no. But Char, you were amazing in that first half, the mayor even said I should tell you

Charlie: The mayor paid me a compliment? Does that make me a princess

Kaori: Not quite

Charlie: Damn. I was already sizing the crown. Thanks for watching though K

Charlie: Hey, we don’t have to give up on buying it. It’ll be better long term if we get it before people are living on the land. Do you have a next step?

Kaori: I do but I can’t guarantee anything… Clover are you trying to beg for food? Bad dog

Clover: *barks* I would be helping clean the plate

Charlie: Thanks for dinner. We’ll find a way to help Kaori, I promise

Charlie: Yes please. That was such a long game, I’m beat

The two set about getting ready for bed. Charlie is faster due to her determination to sleep and is snoring softly by the time Kaori climbs in. The two snuggle up and dream of the future.

The next morning keeps Charlie busy with her pre work task of studying opponents. Kaori takes Clover for a run in the sun and snow.

Kaori: We’ll get home and we’ll just do it, we’ll make the call

Clover: *barks* If you say so

Kaori: Try not to get dirty, then we can skip a bath for you

As she and Clover descend the stairs near the ski lift Kaori suddenly finds it hard to keep her footing. She slides on the ice, desperately trying not to fall over. When she gets a solid footing she sighs in relief.

Kaori: We are not taking that as an omen okay

Clover: *barks* suits me

Kaori: Hello? I’m calling to discuss your offer on Hazakura Park

?: Are you from the council

Kaori: No. I’m a resident and I wanted to talk to you about the future of the space

?: Look, I’m sure you mean well, but my father doesn’t meet with residents over sales

Kaori: Your- Wait, Kiyoshi?

Kiyoshi: Yeah this is my personal business extension. I’m in charge of Ito developments in Mt Komorebi. Who are you again?

Kaori is unsure what to say. Kiyoshi did not take their break up well. If she says it’s her he might just hang up, and the park would be out of reach. But if she says nothing he’s definitely hanging up.

Kaori: It’s me, Kaori

For a long moment Kiyoshi doesn’t respond and Kaori checks to see if he’s hung up on her. He hasn’t.

Kaori: I know things got messy but I really care about Mt Komorebi. I know the boy I knew did to. Please, tell me how to reach your father

Kiyoshi: It wouldn’t matter. He’s put me in charge of the developments here, the offer on the park was mine

Kaori: Oh. Perhaps we-

Kiyoshi: I… I’m actually not doing anything for dinner. Can I take you out and we can talk properly? Otherwise my schedule is pretty tight for the next few weeks

Kaori: Kiyoshi I’m married

Kiyoshi: I heard. She can come if you want

Kaori: She’s actually training tonight. But if it’s the only time you have free, I’ll come

Or perhaps I was just trying to put off writing the first household of next rotation because I’ve decided to REDACTED. I really want to reach the summit with them, I’ve never played that before, but levelling up is hard when Charlie has a job that doesn’t require rock climbing. I’m considering skipping them next rotation, and perhaps returning to them in a few in game years when I can cheat the climbing skill up enough that they can survive the climb.

Hanzo: Sonar Arrow deals bleed effect, Dragonstrike is replaced by Tiger Rage (like Primal Rage)

Kiriko: Healing ofuda grants lifesteal, Kitsune Rush Slows Enemies Inside of it as well now

Orisa: Replaces javelin throw with the version of disruptor that Sojourn had for April fools, Replaces javelin spin with a Sigma barrier

DVa: Pistol now inflicts Enemies with burn and fires like Torb gun, flight now acts like JQ Ultimate axe spin, self Destruct is replaced by a BOB style Ultimate that eventually has a smaller self destruct

Ok so a key part of Mirrorwatch's kit builds are keeping the characters core identities, which is why, say, Vengeance still has res but it explodes soles. That is something you need to keep in mind when making fan kits.

So for Genji instead of just giving him Junkrats bombs and Roadhogs hook, I would give him his regular primary and secondary fire except the shurikens explode on impact. As for deflect I would keep that the same but give swift strike a bleeding effect on hits.

I have no notes on Sym, honestly I couldn't really think of anything wrong with the changes you made. Also I absolutely agree with the healing turrets, bring back support Sym. Also the healing supports my little HC that MW!Sym was the one the one to change MW!Genji's prosthetics after he escaped Talon.

I can honestly say the same for Hanzo but I present that instead of the Sonar Arrow it's changed to a sonar dagger? I just think that even if this Hanzo still doesn't use a sword, he still uses blades. Also for Tiger rage instead of it being like Primal Rage it's instead Hanzo summoning two Tigers onto the battle field that function similarly to MW!Bastion Chicken Bots. Just with more damage and maybe even a bit more health.

With Kiriko I like the ult but I present also changing her Suzu to, instead of cleansing, to give a temporary discord effect to enemies.

Honestly with Orisa I think the Barrier would be a good chance to bring back her barrier from her original kit. Though I would also like to add a leap ability that is similar to Doomfist as MW!Orisa would be the major threat to Numbani in this world so I think her having a leap ability would be a good callback to that.

I really like the D.Va changes you made but I spesifically want the talk about the Ult. I could picker it being like her ult in game where she send out her Mech but instead of exploading imidiately, it does the same thing B.O.B does and shoots other players before exploding, it could also still have the same health as the Mech usually does but with the balancer of whether you destroy it or not it's still going to explode.

warning this got, uh, longer than I expected

so firstly with dumai in general, I loved the parallels between her and glorian. both had their positions of power thrust upon them unexpectedly (glorian expected to have many more years before she had to take the throne, dumai literally didn't even know she was royalty until like a few days before she went and had to claim her title as princess), both were seen as the sole hope for their houses, both were struggling to find their power amidst the politics of it all. but their endings were so different. in a way, glorian got the bad ending while dumai got the good ending. glorian is forced to have a child. she never gets to live in hróth and has to reject her birthright to it. she saves her people, but at the cost of herself. (of course, she does reclaim parts of herself in any way she can and becomes the warrior queen she always wanted to be, but there was still so much she had to give up and she ended up trapping her daughter in the same cycle)

meanwhile, dumai is also to save her people, but doesn't lose herself in the process. yes, she has to give up her magic and yes, she can't be with her wife in the way she wants to. but she doesn't have to bear a child to continue the house of noziken. she's able to go back to ipyeda and become the maiden officiant like she always wanted. dumai's ending is as close to a good ending as she could have and I think it's such a well done contrast between the two dream sisters.

now for dumai and nikeya specifically, ohhhhh I loved their relationship so much. the two of them have such an interesting dynamic. it takes so long for dumai to trust nikeya. and it's interesting how deeply-rooted dumai's dislike/distrust of the kuposa is when she's barely been in this world for a year. she didn't know anything about the kuposa clan until she learned who her father was. but she heard they were conniving and scheming and wanted to control the house of noziken and took that to heart. of course the river lord being responsible for the death of her grandfather and also just being an overly polite passive aggressive asshole to her definitely contributed, but I was definitely surprised how stubbornly dumai held to her distrust of nikeya. but at the same time I understand it because dumai has never loved something like she loved nikeya before. it wasn't only her distrust of nikeya because she was a kuposa, but dumai not wanting to open herself up to being hurt like that.

and nikeya... ohhhh I really really loved her as a character. I love how even in the earlier parts of the book from dumai's POV you can see her desire to be seen as more than her father's daughter. wanting to cut the strings he's using to puppet her and be her own person. how she genuinely cares about seiiki and wants to make sure dumai will be a good ruler. she struggles against the way she's been raised to be and reconciling it with the person she wants to be. she had to fight so hard to forge her own identity, especially in dumai's eyes. as she falls for dumai you can see her so desperately wanting dumai to see her as her own person instead of just as a reflection of her father. and I think, like dumai, that despite the drawbacks her ending is one of the best it could be. of course for nikeya the ending she would've chosen would've been her and dumai co-ruling with suzu as their heir, but dumai wouldn't have been happy being stuck at court. her soul always belonged on ipyeda and I think nikeya knew that. but the ending she gets instead is one where her talents/skills in court can flourish, and she can make sure seiiki turns into what she wants it to be. she can ensure it's ruled properly and make sure it's prepared for the new age they're now living in.

I think it's also so interesting that her family ate from the mulberry tree. I am so desperate for more information on the mulberry tree and neporo and all of that so I really hope eventually we get more information on how nikeya's family ties into that!!

(also, the fact that nikeya is a descendant of someone who ate from the mulberry tree and apparently still has enough siden in her blood to make her immune to the red sickness makes me wonder if sabran IX from priory would've been immune as well? since tunuva is one of her ancestors? just questions buzzing around my head)

anyway just. yeah. dumai and nikeya I love you both wish you could've had a normal marriage but I hope nikeya made plenty of trips to ipyeda for 'guidance from the godsingers' throughout her time as warlord ;)

fujimoto ayaka was well-liked enough to have a future somewhere. idk where, but somewhere

hatta mena has some issues but i do think she can still debut somewhere

i have no idea where nakano kokona can go but that's baby sister so i want good things for her. maybe the chanmina show? that's the only japanese survival show in the works that i can think of, plus she suits the vibe

i was convinced that takahashi hina and abe nagomi were gonna be 12 & 13 and be frontrunners for the lapone spin off group but they usually dont bother with people who don't make the finale...my non fact based opinion is that a group with these two and a couple others who were eliminated would still do better than a group of the finalists. as it stands, hina should try for the next korean season of pd101, and nagomi will have a future in jpop, even though the idea of splitting them hurts my head.

i loved takagi mayu but her brief foray into the entertainment world is over i fear

sutani yurara would probably hate it conceptually but im zapping her with my ninemuses ray. sorry.

i don't know what to do with sasaki tsukushi but she needs a win and bad. chanmina show? if keiko and rinon weren't fighting for top 11 id say debut them as a trio, i enjoyed their team's balance on bijin a lot

saito serina...i really like her but idk what to do with her. she has great idol potential and fits kbeauty standards more than jpop standards...maybe the next korean season of produce? she's like 45% mdh steal list but that's my bias talking

kano kurihara ninemuses beam

i kind of love kitazume sakura, she's cute but extremely intense & she tries to hide it by simply not saying anything but it still shines through. i think she's great. produce 101 korea just to see, she shouts instead of sings but honestly she gives izone

kikukawa aki...she's fun but she gives flop group, like majors or something tbh

no idea how nogizaka works but kawabata ranka should aim for something like that

kamio ayano reminds me so much of zhang zining it's crazy. if she had a storyline i think she would've debuted but she just never caught on. she would be a great gg member but im not sure where

oda aruha my beloved disappointment. if she had held on a lil longer she couldnt made lapone trainee status but alas. i could see her just working in dance moving forward

okabe nana could be scouted by someone, maybe akb idk

uchiyama rin might not have a future in music but it's kind of a shame since she has such a nice lower register

ando yui my little sister...idk what to do with her so im gonna blindly put her in mdh jpn ngg and say it makes sense because having 2 yui's would be cute

aramaki joa's push was too obvious and she paid the price, but there's no way she's not being kept on as a lapone trainee or getting offers, finals or not. i actually think her vibe sort of suits tripleS although im not expecting anyone from this show to join

i quite liked akiyama ema, something about her reminded me of jihyo but she never fully caught the audience's attention so unfortunately she might just dance from here on out

to be very real i hope suzu fans dont panic vote her into the top 11. she definitely has a future at lapone.

honestly some company is gonna take half the finalists and throw them in a group together regardless of fit so given they dont make top 11 but disregarding that...

And the end credit song!!!!! Kisa and Suzu sang it together!!!! I guess the ending song is sung by Kisa and whichever boy she pursued? So what happens for the song on Kisa’s route? Is it a solo?

Ahhhhh, and then we get to see second year Kisa and Suzu as the Al Jeanne and Jack Ace on audition day for the newbies!!!! And they’re so famous among the new kids!!!!!

And then, Kisa brings up how Suzu first thought Kisa was a girl when he saw her. Only for Suzu to reveal that WASN’T his first thought. The very first thing he thought when he saw Kisa for the first time? Despite not knowing her gender, her name, her personality or anything about her?

That she was cute.

Just like how Chance thought Sissia was cute at first sight.
