waiting for a meta post on kory's relationship with her father and how it shaped how she looks at and approaches relationships, but so far i haven't found any, so here we go ig.
myand'r gave kory abandonment issues, it's clear as day. whenever kory is there in the comics, and if it's obvious or not, she clings onto people. now, this could just be her general extroverted nature, but it's pretty obvious to me that it's not healthy. she does have extreme reactions to being left alone or the thought of being left alone but simultaneously we can see her attempting to cover it up by slowly pulling away because she doesn't want to be dependent on anyone.
dick in a way during the ntt run (because let's be real he was not always a good boyfriend) aggravated the already existing issues kory had, because at the end of the day, her father was the one who abandoned her first. i think at the end of the day, she expects to be left behind, to be abandoned just like how her entire family did. she feels like she doesn't belong anywhere (the part in ntt when shes in tamaran battling her conflicting emotions on how shes not enough of an earthling, nor does she feel fully tamaranean anymore).
kory willingly put people's (especially those who she loves) emotions above her because of her fear of losing them (something she obviously took from her dads behaviour).
she agreed to the marriage with karras because she believed that that was what she needed to do, but simultaneously her wishing dick would say something, and save her somehow told me that she was not ready to fully stand up for herself which explains the cognitive dissonance she feels for the next couple of issues.
its also obvious to the readers and the characters outside that everything her father did is 50 shades of fucked up, but she cannot see past her idealised version of her father, she cannot get herself to come to terms with the fact that at the end of the day, her father sold her as a bargaining chip to the gordanians which lead to 5 years of slavery (amongst other fucked up things he's done) it's easier for her to pin it all on kom, especially because kom did have some type of involvement.
the entire time when she's trying to fight alone for the throne when myand'r has given up shows to me that she cannot see how her father wasn't ever a good father, but wasn't really a good king either. he isn't completely to blame for this (i can elaborate on this in another post).
in the end with her, everything started with her father. he abandoned her first, and her mother simply let her get sold into slavery, effectively abandoning her too. the man she loved franklin (for a bit at least even if i do not agree w the storyline), karras, her parents again, her planet, donna, ph'yzzon, her planet again, her unborn child, her entire team. they all left somehow in the end.
kory loves people, she truly does love them. but also, it's obvious enough to me that she's not just afraid of being left alone, she also expects to be left behind, every single time ; inevitably, alone with her pain and grief, again and again and again.

My Titans S4 Priorities
As Titans season 4 comes closer to being released, I find myself constantly looking for new updates/content or trying to forget about it. I am so excited but so scared because if the following things don’t happen this season, I’m going to cry:
List of Titans S4 Priorities (in order):
1. DICKKORY CONTENT - We want, no let me rephrase that, NEED Dick and Kory to develop this season. They need to have a storyline, and it better not end in disaster or I’m suing for emotional distress.
2. More of Gar - I know that Gar is finally getting a supersuit, but I still need more development for him. We’ve had storylines primarily focused on Dick, Kory, Rachel, even Connor, but we have yet had a full season of a storyline for Gar. I want him to develop his powers and for us to be shown more of Gar’s actions.
3. More lighthearted tones - As much as I love how dark this show is, I need for it to not be so serious around. I want the titans to have fun, laugh, and able to enjoy life for a little bit...you know before Brother Blood ruins it for them lol.
4. Captain Kory - I need to see Kory take on more of a leader role. We know that she is supposed to be, but we never really get to see her take charge. I want to see not only Dick be more of a leader, but Kory as well. I want them to have equal leadership roles (and also maybe develop on a more personal level idk...)
5. Explanation of Kory’s powers - As most of you know from S3, Kory found out that the orange fire, which resembles her original powers in the comics, that she possessed wasn’t really hers, it was Blackfire’s, who later takes back her powers. But Kory then unlocks her hidden true powers, which are closer to the teen titans cartoon version of her powers, but they are blue. I don’t know why it is blue. i am going to assume that they aren’t going to stay blue and will eventually turn green, but I am just wondering why they chose to have her new powers be blue. I wonder how they are going to explain her change in power color because I am going insane trying to figure it out.
6. Tim Drake storyline - As much as I love Tim, he shouldn’t be in full costume and out fighting with the Titans in this season. If he is, it has to be at the very end of S4. If you look at all of the characters, the only ones who started fighting crime right away, such as Connor, Blackfire, Gar and etc., they all have superpowers and abilities that make them pretty invincible. Even before Blackfire retained her true powers, she still had special abilities and she benefited from having Tamaranean physiology, which granted her super strength, durability, and healing. Tim Drake will be the first Titan joining who doesn’t possess any supernatural abilities. All of the Titans who are like Tim ( Dick, Jason, Hawk, Dove), all of them were already heroes and went through training. I’m not saying that Tim can’t be fighting at all or involved in crime fighting, but it would be better for him to be mostly in the background or off the field for this season. It wouldn’t make sense for Tim to be already regularly fighting crime before the end of the season.
That’s all I can think of for now. If anyone has similar thoughts or ideas, feel free to reply!

which powered characters do you think have the coolest powers overall and also like coolest individual powers?
Oooo so I’m gonna put this disclaimer here first: I’m only discussing my version of the characters. Not the comics necessarily. I’m also just looking at meta powers/alien powers, not magic. Magic is a whole different ball field
Also, as cool as the powers are, I’m also going talk about my favorite power limitations. That’s what adds the suspense and makes good stories!
First and foremost, speedsters have the coolest powers. They can control their bodies to the molecular level. I love the fact that Jai canonically can gain super strength using his strength. I personally don’t think the dc writers take into consideration how that speed can affect other parts of their lives—yeah, I get they eat more, but what about sleep? Hair growth? Immune system?
I love electrokensis, like Jefferson Pierce “Black Lightning”, Jennifer Pierce “Lightning”, and Virgil Hawkins “Static Shock.” (Also? I accidentally started shipping Jenn and Virgil so…feel free to ask about that). I just…especially in the world we living in today, that power is just so interesting and I would love to see it explored more (which we’re seeing more and more!) I would also love to see more about technokensis (controlling technology). I have an OC with it, Parker Stone, and I need to explore it more.
Anissa Pierce? Of all her powers, I think the density control is the best power. Because there is so much you can do with that, not just in a fight but day to day life (especially with younger siblings).
I definitely stole this from the Young Justice show, but Kathy using her powers to connect her team telepathically. Hell, her and Maya have been using it since Maya moved in. It keeps them safe when they have to relay information in situations where they can’t talk.
But that comes with the downside of them feeling each other’s pain. When Maya was tortured by Psymon, her teammates felt all of it. This triggered Tiffany into a panic attack so bad, her siblings had to come to Epsilon tower. She was crying and telling Tam, “I stayed quiet like you told me, Tammy! I stayed quiet!” (Whole ‘nother fic/headcannon idea there)
Just gonna say it: I like Mar’i’s powers better that Jon’s.
Don’t get me wrong—Kryptonian powers are really cool, but Tamaranean powers add a little something extra. I love that Tamaranean powers rely on emotion, which is a lot of fun with my Mar’i’s autism. I struggle to identify my own emotions, so the thought of learning to do that with powers???
Kryptonians require solar radiation where as Tamaraneans require ultraviolet radiation. Can you imagine Mar’i having to absorb that energy during a mission?
On the other hand, I think that Jon has more versitile powers. I love the ice breath and heat vision and just…there’s more situations he can be of help with.

14, 18 & 19 for the writing asks!
14. What is something you feel weird/ uncomfortable writing about?
Hmm this question is interesting. I would feel weird writing about abuse or violent trauma. It’s a little too heavy for me.
18. Show us a piece of dialogue you really like.
Hope this is considered a piece because…
“You always see me. Dick Grayson, no one else. You always have. You never wanted me to be anyone else. You never held me to anyone else’s standards. I’ve always been just me to you. Even when I didn’t know exactly who that was. I can’t even begin to tell you, or process what that means to me.” He looks up at her with the softest pleading eyes she has ever seen.
She slid her soft hands up his neck massaging his scalp with her nails. He closes his eyes, succumbing to her soothing touch. His calloused hands slide under her shirt resting on her hips.
“Try,” she whispers. The hold on her hips tightened as he pulled her down on top of him, her legs straddling either side of his. She holds her breath, attempting to stop her hips from the automatic roll they begged to do against him.
His smile grows slightly when he notices her hip stutter and relax against him. He pulls her closer, still gripping the slip in his hand.
“You are protective, loyal, intelligent, and trustworthy. Everything I have ever wanted or asked for in a partner. For the Titans,” he adds. She rolls her eyes playfully.
“Working with you and managing all of this. I mean, you took in four fucking teenagers with me, with no questions asked. How am I going to do any of this without you?” He smooths one of her curls behind her ears.
“I don’t know how,” she shrugs sarcastically.
He chuckles softly. “And you are funny as hell. I love that about you,” he whispers before kissing her cheek. Step One of his plan is complete: Tell her everything you love about her without telling her…
“And what else?” She pushes him for more. She loves compliments, especially coming from Dick, the most tight-lipped person on the planet.
“I love your lips, but especially your smile and how it takes over your whole face,” he plants a light kiss on her lips as she smiles. “And your hair. It always looks perfect. Must be a Tamaranean thing.” He wraps one of the ringlets around his fingers and watches it spring under his control. “And these eyes. They are mesmerizing. That’s why I am constantly looking away. Scared you might hypnotize me.” He pulls her face closer to his so that her forehead is resting against his.
“But you aren’t now,” Kory reasons.
“Because it might be the last—“
“Don’t say that Dick.”
“I won’t say anything else. Can I show you?”
19. Show us the line you want readers to remember from your story.
The love she feels at the sight of them overwhelms her. Her chest tightens intensely and she feels a different kind of heat coursing through her from the emotions. It feels unique from her starfire, but more powerful. All she wants to do is wrap them in it. In her love, power, and security for the rest of her life.
Thank you baby sis for the questions @jonskory

27. best to worst temper (let's hear about your other muses!! ;) )
Muse rankings for muns with more than one blog and/or a multimuse blog
Thank you for sending one!!! :D
27. best to worst temper
1 - Wildfire (@tamaraneanpacifist) - ◇◇◇◇◇ It's not really a thing he feels proud of, but, Wildfire is the most capable of staying calm in bad or provoking situations. This probably comes from him adapting the Shalla way of life after ending up with them, and he only sees it as another point where he is so very much too un-tamaranean. He has this technique where, even when really badly angered, he's still not acting out immediately - he gives out a warning, and counts up, and only if by then it's still cooking inside of him, he will actually allow his anger to flow.
2 - Cat (@starsmusedeposit) - ◇◇◇◇◇ Gifted - or cursed - with the ability of hearing/reading the thoughts/minds of so many people, Cat was probably bound to develop a bit of a middle position. She's always trying to understand the other side, always trying to reason down any anger or frustration she might feel. Without any real fighting-skills, perhaps that's also a reason that makes her always try to go with the peaceful/calm/reasoned approach over actually being angry.
3 - Liquor (@starsmusedeposit) - ◆◇◇◇◇ Presumably, her almost complete calmness - some might call it 'coolness' - comes from her experience. It's said that she's way older than she looks, but Liquor has never clarified on that. What is clear though is that she doesn't really show anger, ever, and that she usually stays focused and calm even in difficult situations. Although the latter is more of an assumption, there isn't really anyone that can talk about having seen her in any situation like that.
4 - Starlight (@rainbowoftamaran) - ◆◆◇◇◇ Honestly, Starlight would very much prefer to just get along with everyone. She tries to avoid conflicts and enjoys it when she can be in peace with people. There is a good bit of the typical tamaranean temper in her, yes, but it's much more tame than in others. She does get angry on occasion, but rarely really heavily so.
5 - Galfore (@royalcaretaker) - ◆◆◆◇◇ Through a lot of ups and downs in his life, Galfore has eventually grown to quite drastically lessen his temper from the usual tamaranean level of it. He still has things where he can quickly get very angry about, yes, but often he just doesn't and takes things with at highest growling a little or the likes.
6 - Mia (@starsmusedeposit) - ◆◆◆◇◇ Always trying to be a hero, Mia can easily be angered if she feels that something is just too unjust or if it gets personal. She is kind of reckless too, she doesn't really try to hold her anger back all that much, but she also values being or looking "cool" and so it's a decent medium level for her.
7 - Kage (@starsmusedeposit) - ◆◆◆◇◇ Always having been an assassin, Kage is well-aware that a temper - or other strong emotions, really - could easily mess up things, so she always tries to avoid falling for it. It's difficult to really deny when she's angered though, and really, more than medium temper-management she never actually achieved.
8 - Starfire (right here) - ◆◆◆◇◇ It was Earth and her friends that really brought Starfire's temper down. Born and raised tamaranean, without being introduced to the amazing kindness that her friends here offered her (and so many strangers also seem to show, here on Earth), her temper would definitely be a lot worse. Fate, or luck, or whatever it was, brought her to Earth though, and Starfire is very happy with where and how she is now. sometimes even when angered, Starfire will first still attempt to work it out in a reasonable way.
9 - Mar'i (@starsmusedeposit) - ◆◆◆◇◇ Like mother, like daughter - Mar'i pretty much has adapted Starfire's temper. She has a little bit more of a temper, but that's probably normal as a kid, and she is still more pleasant to take care of - or tell no to - than some other children. If anything, Mar'i is more likely to become "mopey"/sad over things than actually angry. Perhaps because she knows that usually that behaviour works very well in getting her caretakers to give in.
10 - Sheshe (@starsmusedeposit) - ◆◆◆◆◇ Having basically been "created" to be a villain, Sheshe does have a temper. It especially comes out when someone hurts or insults her and/or Mimi, but she can also get angry about other things. Or some very rare times when the two "sisters" argue, but that thankfully doesn't happen all too often and she soon feels bad about it then.
11 - Lightning (@starsmusedeposit) - ◆◆◆◆◇ As much as Lightning likes to play the cool and funny hero, the truth is, she can be angered rather easily. It gets problematic quickly, too, since her anger does tend to lead her to make unwise decisions and not think a lot about what she does - she's very likely to take risks she really shouldn't take, and to run into traps.
12 - Blackfire (@queenofthegalaxxy) - ◆◆◆◆◆ Is this really even a question? Okay, Blackfire is aware that anger isn't always useful, but she tends to keep a certain amount of anger always bubbling inside of her. She would say it's a means of being always ready to use her abilities in an instant, a form of protection so to speak, but really, it had never been different. It's unlikely she would even know how to stop feeling that anger.
13 - Moonshot (@warriorfortamaran) - ◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆◆ We have a winner!! Okay, no, joke aside, Moonshot is the one with the worst temper BY FAR. He's been through so much that he all internalized, he's permanently angry at pretty much everything for absolutely all and no reasons at the same time. The only thing really keeping him from blowing up (both literally and metaphorically) all the time is thinking about Starfire, thinking about what she would want from him and how she would react to if he was going to act as he wanted. He doesn't really see the absolutely horrible temper he has, he would claim it's just the tamaranean way that the people on Earth simply don't understand, but really, he's much more prone to being aggressive than most typical tamaraneans.

Greetings! Could I request some domestic/dating headcanons for Young Justice!Superboy dating a Tamaranean? Thank you and have a splendid day. ❤️
Dolly's note: Just a heads up, I am always down to write about a Tamaranean reader because they're so good so I was ESTATCIC to get this request!
Tumblr media
- Okay but get this, you guys hang out with M'gann as the Alien Trio, yes you're both aware he's not a "real" kryptonian by actual standards but on the other hand, you simply don't care about that.
- I can imagine that you both sometimes like to show off whose stronger or overall just randomly lift things out of curiosity to see who can lift the most. Everyone finds that it's best to kinda just keep things AWAY from you too when you get into this slightly competetive spirit.
- He does get a bit protective of you, not that you need it, but he genuinely doesn't like how people will ogle you (since Tamaraneans are just beautiful by nature) and sometimes just gives them a menacing glare or so.
- Honestly you guys have the best cuddle sessions with each other. You like them because Conner's arms are so strong and make you feel secure, he likes them because you're super warm and nice to hold, but they get even better when Wolf joins in on them and volunteers to be your pillow pet.
- Since Tamaranean powers are heavily based off of emotion, I can totally see you just look at Conner and you can't help but admire him when suddenly you randomly start floating but you don't even notice it.
- "Uh...Y/n?"
- "Hmm? Oh! Hehe, that is a little awkward."
- In some iterations, a Tamaraneans hair can be on fire during battle or when they're really fired up and honestly, Conner would just adore that. Because on one hand, you look super cool like that, but on the other, you also look super hot like that as well- Not that he'd admit it out loud but he most certainly would kinda tease you about it lovingly later.
- You guys also balance each other out in terms of personalities as well. Both of you are curious creatures but you're more welcoming and excited to learn while Conner is more cautious and hostile when it comes to new things, you help him learn how to embrace change and he helps you judge what is a good change and what isn't.
- He'd love to hear about your culture and likes to see the passion in your eyes as you tell him all about your home planet. It does kinda bum him out because he can't tell you anything about Krypton, even though he isn't from there, but you tell him that his planet, Earth, is wonderful and that you're so happy and lucky that he chose you to share it with him.
- Okay but you can and will kick Lex Luthor's ass and the only thing that is stopping you from doing that is Conner. A huge majority of your relationship is that you both have to stop each other from doing impulsive things.
- Seriously though, Conner, just let (Y/n) give him one tiny star volt to the face, they swear it won't hurt...too much.
- Both of you are a literal power couple because of not only your powers but also because of how different your attitudes and perspectives are of the things around you.
- Your people are very extroverted but I can also see you wanting to spend quiet nights with Conner.
- Dates between you two commonly consist of cuddling on the couch and watching earth movies, sometimes they confuse or frustrate you because you don't get the humor or you don't get the references and Conner will have to explain them to you (if he can't, then he asks Wally or something) or night where you two lay under the stars and you tell him all about space and what lies beyond just the galaxy you all live in.
- "Maybe one day, I can take you out there." You mumble tiredly as you cuddled up next to Conner on the blanket you two were laying on, gesturing to the starry night above you.
- "Yeah...Maybe one day." He grins, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you close.

Headcanons for Robin/Nightwing and Starfire’s future in the animated series?
>If we're assuming they got together after "Trouble In Tokyo" I imagine they'd be together for about... two to three years. During this time Robin finally has the confidence to put on the mantle of Nightwing and move away from being Robin, but also something's still off.
>Like the thing about 03 Robin/Nightwing, at least in my interpretation, is that he's going to continue to be a hot-headed over-competitive asshole consumed by their hero work until Starfire's like, "Okay but do you actually see yourself having a life outside of this. Do you see yourself as a whole person outside of this." And Robin doesn't actually have an answer for that. So... she dumps him. She loves him, and she knows he loves her, but like... she also knows that the Dick she knows now will just keep throwing himself at a wall until he falls apart if it means getting the mission done, and she knows that's not healthy for either of them. She knows she's not helping him get past that.
>So Starfire goes into space for a time to get some perspective--and it hurts, but like... also Earth is a planet she got really attached to because she essentially crashed onto it after a series of really traumatic events, so she kind of needs to see how big the universe is because she let her world get so small so fast. She loves her friends, but she also needs to see what's out there, you know? So she goes among the stars, nearly gets recruited into the Star Sapphire corps, helps Razer find Aya (because goddammit I need closure there), has long philosophical sessions with The Android, hangs out with the Wonder Twins, kicks some Apokolips butt, hooks up with a Thanagarian hottie, gets fuckin' blasted with Lobo, gets in a bar fight with Lobo, has a long weird bonding session with Lobo, and drunkenly cries to Space Cabbie about how much she misses the Titans (and Dick) while Lobo's like, "You don't NEED them, you are a strong, beautiful, independent Tamaranean!" Helps Lobo patch things up with his own daughter, does her best to patch things up with Blackfire (Things are still really awkward between them but there are fewer coups involved, at least.) Does a whole bunch of humanitarian (tamaranean-tarian?) work on Tamaran, and honestly just kind of gets a great sense of like, "Okay, you know... I actually feel like a whole person now." Like she's seen enough of the universe that like... she doesn't feel like a fish out of water back on earth. But ultimately... she misses earth, and she misses her friends, and that's her home, so she returns. It's been like... 3 years, but she finally feels comfortable saying that's her home.
>Now in that three years, Dick's been going through it, too, but this is not a "Getting Your Groove Back In Space" situation. He's doing a lot of work in Blüdhaven. He has a kind of intense relationship with Barbara Gordon. Like the whole thing there was that Babs was hardcore a childhood crush for him, so it's like, "Yeah! This is what I've actually wanted the whole time! Guess I just have a thing for redheads!" But... nah. It's... not quite like that. Like Babs thinks he's cute but it's also like Dick represents her trying to get emotional fulfillment out of the whole cape life and everything's all tangled up in them trying to prove themselves to Bruce and why the fuck are they still trying to prove themselves to Bruce?! It's that situation where you think it's what you want and you convinced yourself its what you want for so long that you don't want to admit how hollow it feels when you finally have it... Dick's still willing to try for it, but Babs was always the brains between them and she breaks it off.... then she gets paralyzed and that fucks both of them up and Dick is like, "Hey let me be here for you" but she pushes him away. She's done. (Don't worry give her like a year and a half and she'll be kicking ass as Oracle--it'll all work out.)
>So Dick is like, "Fine. I can give up the cape life too. All it's ever done is fuck me up anyway." So he does. But it's not like he can sit around and do nothing. And that's where all of the fucking "Spyral" shit starts. Spyral sucks. He feels like a goddamn idiot with Spyral. But then everything starts funneling back toward Gotham again and uh oh it turns out Gotham has gone to shit--like way more to shit than usual. And that's when Damian pops up in Dick's life like "Bruce disappeared. You have to be Batman now. Also you suck and you'll never be Batman. Now put on the cowl. Fuck you." And Dick is like, "Wow. I cannot stress how much this is the last thing I want." And just to rub his nose in it further Tim Drake is just absolutely vibing as Red Robin so it's like, "Huh I guess all your Robin hangups were a you problem." But... somehow chasing Damian's freaky little sword-wielding-ass around and getting the shit kicked out of him by Jason and then kicking the shit out of Jason helps him work through a bunch of stuff? Like it's ugly. It's an ugly situation from all angles. But it's also Dick confronting literally everything that fucked him up about being Robin, while also trying to steer Damian to a healthier mindset as the new Robin.
>Eventually Bruce returns from the Phantom Zone or whatever, takes up the mantle of Batman again like, "Oh god I'm so sorry I never meant to put that on you and I realize I put a lot of shit on you" and Dick comes out of it finally being able to say, "I'm never going to be Batman. But if I'm going to be a symbol, and I know I want to be a symbol, I'm Nightwing." And Bruce is like, "Hey, that's great. So like... this is totally optional... but the league is putting together a kind of junior team. It's gonna be run a lot more cleanly that the first iteration of the Titans, but we can't be babysitting them the whole time... what do you say." And honestly being a mentor has like... really grown on Dick, so he's like, "yeah totally." And Hal fucking Jordan cuts in like, "Great! You'll be co-leading with Kory!" and Dick's like "What."
>Oh my god working as co-leaders is so fucking awkward. Like basically each sees the other like, "Oh fuck. They've gotten so much hotter and they seem so much more mature and together and I've just been a hot mess for the past three years." But then they start catching up more and more, and they start talking about their adventures, and god, they are such good co-mentors to the new Titans. They become really good friends and that whole guardedness about not wanting to hurt each other actually lets them develop a really deep and respectful non-romantic relationship. But also there's still that "Oh no they're hot" tension going on.
>To their credit it takes about like... a year and a half for them to finally hook up again, and then shit gets gross. They're just making out all the time, having cutesy little inside jokes during briefings, walking around the tower with shit-eating grins, it's unbearable. But also good for them. They are absolutely the team Mom and Dad and their shit is together.
>Eventually they get married and have Mar'i and they keep showing goddamn baby pictures to the league and the Titans when no one asked. The End. :)

The Theory Of Everything
Outlaws x Tamaranean!Reader One-Shot
Word Count: 3.3K Warnings: Explicit Language, Angst
Author's Note: So y'all remember how I said that one story sparked the beginning of the Outlaws x Reader? Yeah, I lied and wrote the actual beginning. Enjoy! -Thorne
It was a subtle thing, the slightest shift in her demeanor, and he would have missed it if he hadn’t the years of thorough training in order to recognize such shifts. Her default expression was typically a frown and narrowed eyes, and hardly ever did she crack a smile, even at the most downright hysterical jokes and pranks his family would pull on one another. Which was odd for a Tamaranean considering the fact that most of the ones he’d met were usually overjoyed, especially her sister.
Something had also flashed across her face in that moment he mentioned it and she offhandedly muttered about being conditioned to not show emotion, especially that of joy or kindness during her captive years—it was easily taken advantage of by those that wished to do their worst harms to people. Then, she waved it off, and talked about something she’d read on the internet, Resting-Bitch-Face, she’d called it, then actually laughed, and said it was her normal face, there was no particular negative emotion that caused it, it just was—but if it deterred people from being friendly with her, all the better.
And he’d come to realize that her frown and narrowed gaze didn’t ooze disinterest or irritation like he’d once believed. No, now that he’d noticed the shift in her eyes when she was around him and those she cared for, the softness that entered them, and the split second that her brows unfurrowed, features relaxing ever so slightly before they hardened again, covering up any semblance of relative peace. That was the moment he realized he was in love with her, and hopelessly at that too.
But she wasn’t an easy woman to understand, not by a long-shot, or to be around, and she’d even agree with both of those. Most people, like his older brother and his friends, avoided her like the plague and didn’t interact unless it was necessary, despite the fact that she’d once been a member of the Titans with Kory. Hell, most of the Justice League didn’t want to call in reinforcements if it meant she was coming too, she was that destructive when she fought—but her volatile nature held a lifetime of wrath and a raging need to burn away all remnants of abuse—either in herself or other innocents. And she only got it out when she expended her solar energy on those she deemed her enemies.
She was impertinent with people that wasted her time, and she especially hated when people made noise, hell, even when they breathed loudly it drove her up the wall. Which almost made her kill Roy the first time she’d met him because he wouldn’t stop whistling. She was also typically the reason that Jason and Roy couldn’t bring her along to bars anymore because she was more than happy to break someone’s leg over touching her or muttering explicit comments in her ear.
But what most people didn’t take the time to see was that she was caring too. She didn’t show it because she viewed it as a weakness to be taken from her by an enemy, but it slipped through sometimes. One of the easiest memories to call on of it, was the time they’d saved a group of kids from human traffickers and as they waited for the city police to show up, she made even the youngest child learn how to send a strike that would disorient even someone who was larger than they were. That spot just below your chest is called the solar plexus. Hit it as hard as you can, and your opponent will be winded. Curl your fingers in and open your hand, like so. Strike into their middle with the heel of your palm as hard as you can.
Jason wondered if it was the first time she’d smiled since she came to earth, because when she saw the kids slip into a state of absolute fun as they tried to whack each other, a broad grin stretched across her face. But it gave him a glimpse he hadn’t seen of her—that she was still a living being, capable of strong emotion, and if that smile on her face was any indicator, she was feeling pride and understanding towards the children. He loved her smile, wishing that it would’ve stayed a moment longer.
Unfortunately, being smitten didn’t seem to just apply to Jason because if someone as hard-assed and anal-retentive about feelings as he was, was feeling such a way, he knew a loose, emotionally tethered man like Roy was too, especially when the archer gazed at her with those big evergreen eyes like he was staring at the whole universe compacted into one woman. Jason wasn’t sure how to feel about that.
And if he was being completely honest, he didn’t know how to feel about either of them—he wouldn’t deny there was something more than just friendship between he and Roy, and it wasn’t that strong as steel, forged level of trust you get between watching each other’s back when you’re in the thick of danger—it was deeper than that, but they’d yet to bring it up—that or it just hadn’t come up to where they needed to talk about it. And now that there was another person he wanted…Jason wanted to acknowledge it, but he was so afraid of fucking up probably the greatest thing that happened to him since he came back, and that kept him paralyzed from acting on his feelings. And he was content to keep his mouth shut if it meant avoiding that, even if he had to watch the two people he loved the most get closer.
***
She was typically the first one to wake in the morning. Training with the Warlords of Okaara meant rising before the sun, and while she’d learned to indulge in waiting for the sun to appear in the sky before waking here on earth, old habits died hard, and more often than not, she found herself lying in bed in the early hours of the morn, simply staring at the ceiling until she heard Jason or Roy shuffling around in the kitchen. That being said, it was usually Jason who was up and not Roy, the latter being very lazy and preferring to sleep until practically noon.
Today however, she wasn’t the first to arise, coming to stare at Jason as she shuffled into the kitchen, watching as he tiptoed around the area, either consciously being quiet, or unconsciously falling back on sneaking training. His back was to her, and even if she wasn’t one privy to childish whims, she couldn’t help but creep up on him and wait in his peripheral until he finally noticed her. And when he did, it was downright hilarious.
He jerked with a sharp ‘shit’ and immediately threw out his right elbow to jab at whatever had snuck up on him and she caught it with ease, allowing a smirk to cross her lips before it fell and she murmured, “Peace, Jason. It would be unbecoming to attack a teammate.” She pressed her thumb into the flesh underside his arm and his arm tingled with heat. “Better yet a friend.”
Jason scowled and pulled his arm out her grip. “It’s unbecoming to sneak up on teammates too, (Y/N).”
She merely hummed and flowed around him to the refrigerator. The door creaked on its hinges and he momentarily reminded himself to oil it later, watching as she pulled out the water pitcher.
“You are up rather early,” (Y/N) noted. “I have noticed that you sleep an hour or so later than I.” Her glowing eyes pierced him with a clarity that he wasn’t sure he liked. “Is there something on your mind, Jason?”
He shrugged and turned away, busying himself with pulling out a skillet and a spatula. “Just woke up, is all.” Jason didn’t have to be facing her to know that those eyes were boring into his back—he could feel them.
“Ah, so your body has received the needed recovery.”
Chuckling, he replied, “Something like that.” He felt her shift behind him, then the egg carton appeared beside the spatula on the counter, and he glanced over at her, only to see a curious look in her eye.
“Has anyone ever told you that your eyes glow in the dark?”
Jason blinked—not that he remembered. He unconsciously reached up to touch just below his eye and he murmured, “No…they do?”
(Y/N) lifted a hand and he couldn’t fight the way his heart began to pound in his chest at how soft her fingertips were when they finally touched his skin. She drew her fingers up his cheek and to his eyebrow, tracing it delicately, as if he were made of porcelain and the faintest touch would shatter him into a million shards—not like he wasn’t feeling like that already.
“It is strange, Jason. They are teal in the light, but when there is darkness…they glow a vivid green.”
A memory flashed across his mind, waking up in the neon ooze of the Lazarus Pit and he couldn’t help but shut his eyes, trying to will it away. She placed her palm against his cheek and Jason sighed as the warmth bled into his skin, reminding him of those moments of falling onto a warm pillow.
“What is on your mind, Jason?” she asked, and this time she wasn’t probing to see if he’d tell her—(Y/N) wanted an answer, and a real one at that. He let out a shaky breath as he mulled over the words that played on his tongue. “I can see you are thinking about it. Tell me what is weighing on you and I will do what I can to appease it.”
“I don’t know if it’s that simple, (Y/N),” he replied and he opened his eyes to stare at her. Her expression was unreadable and the fact that he couldn’t decipher her thoughts worried him.
“Simplicity. Complexity. These are only matters of time and understanding, Jason,” she explained and thumbed his cheekbone. “You know that I can do so. Let me help you.”
It was now or never and either he told her here or he told her later when the timing was worse, and he made an even bigger mess. At least here, she could let him down easy and swear to never say a word to Roy about it.
Jason took a deep breath and prepared himself for the worst as he confessed quietly, “I…love you, (Y/N).”
The most extraordinary thing occurred in front of Jason—her jaw went slack, and her eyes went wide like she’d witnessed the most impossible thing. And that had to be the second to worst reaction he could hope for because he’d honestly rather have her flat-out rejection than stunned silence, just staring at each other. And stare they did…for a solid minute before she appeared to find her voice.
“I…was not aware you had affectations for me.” (Y/N) blinked, adding, “Is this a recent discovery?”
He shrugged. “I tried to ignore it…I didn’t want to mess up the dynamic we’ve got going but…”
Jason trailed off and she tipped her head to the side, repeating, “But?”
Meeting her gaze, he said, “But I couldn’t stop feeling for you.” Suddenly he felt like a caged animal, too close, too confined, too transparent in her glowing stare and he pulled from her touch, spinning around to place his hands on the counter so he could gather his thoughts.
“I don’t know what’s between you and Roy, but I know it’s more than sex and I’m not going to come between it.”
“Even if you want to?” she questioned, and he gripped the counter until his knuckles turned a sickly, pale shade. “Don’t you want to be the one at my side?”
“What I want doesn’t matter. I want you both to be happy.”
“At your own expense.”
Jason huffed a mirthless laugh. “I’m used to my expense being unseen and uncared for.” He lowered his head as his heart began to collapse on itself. “I love you, (Y/N) and…and I love Roy too.” Even with all he’d been through, Jason wondered if this was what it was like to have a broken heart. “But I won’t stand in the way.”
She was silent for a long time and Jason fought viciously to keep the tears at bay. He’d just revealed two of the biggest secrets he’d ever had in his entire life—discounting the whole vigilante thing—and he wasn’t sure where that was going to leave him in the morning.
A warm hand touched his knuckles and his head shot up, staring wide and teary eyed at (Y/N) who wore a heart-tugging smile. Finally, she spoke, soft and kind.
“Come with me,” she said, and Jason felt confusion course through him as his brows knitted together.
“What?”
(Y/N) pulled his grip away from the counter as if it were nothing and she tugged at his hand. “Come with me,” she repeated, this time a bit firmer and he had no control over his feet as he silently obeyed, letting her lead him down the long hallway until they stood at her door.
She opened it and pulled him inside her room, closing the door with her free hand. Jason had turned on the lights leading to the kitchen, so he had to blink a few times, waiting for his eyes to adjust to the darkness in her room, but when they did, her room was the last place he wanted to be—mostly because Roy was curled up like a cat in her bed.
He tried to pull away, whispering, “(Y/N), please don’t—”
She shot him a look with those gleaming eyes and his mouth snapped shut, though his apprehension bubbled in his chest the closer she led him to her bed. They reached the edge and she pulled him towards her. He stepped forward, allowing her to maneuver him until his knees touched the edge and she placed her hands on his chest, shoving with enough force that if he wanted to stop himself, he had to try hard. Jason didn’t though and he fell back onto the mattress, momentarily glancing over his shoulder to make sure he didn’t wake Roy; he didn’t, and he looked back at her.
“(Y/N)?”
She pulled the shirt from her body, leaving her in her undergarments and she shoved at his shoulder.
“Lie down,” she commanded calmly, and despite everything in his bones screaming at him to get up and flee, he obeyed, albeit when his back hit the bed, he went still as a wooden beam.
“X’Hal, Jason. Relax.” She slipped into the bed beside him and pulled the covers up over the two of them as she pressed herself into Jason’s side, one leg sliding between his.
He wasn’t entirely sure what was happening at the moment, but when she reached across him and shoved Roy in the face until he woke up, something started to fall into place.
“Roy,” (Y/N) said and shoved him again, smirking slightly when the archer let out a grunt and cracked an eye open.
“What?” he muttered rather annoyed, glaring into her eyes.
She nodded at the man between them. “Jason is here.”
Roy blinked a few times. “I’m sorry?” he questioned, evidently not understanding it the first time.
(Y/N) grabbed Roy’s arm and hauled him until he collided with Jason and he wasn’t sure if it was himself or Roy who was more flustered at meeting each other’s gaze as she simply repeated, “Jason is here.”
Roy took a moment to fully understand what she was saying. “Jaybird?”
Jason pulled the most awkward smile he’d ever produced. “Roy.”
The archer looked between him and her then asked, “I thought we were going to talk to him together?”
(Y/N) shrugged. “He told me he loved us.”
Both men yelped at the same time, vastly different reactions words, but the feeling of shock was still the same. She was obviously unamused at the long, drawn-out moment and Jason remembered she hated wasting time when she gave him another look. She nodded at Roy and they stared each other down before he sighed and nodded, turning his face to Roy.
“She’s…right, Roy.” He let his fingers brush against the smooth skin of Roy’s wrist as he whispered, “I love you. I love both of you.”
He wasn’t sure what reaction was going to come out of Roy, but when the man sat up in the bed with a face-splitting grin, it was safe to say he was relieved.
Roy took Jason’s face in his hands. “You do?”
Jason nodded. “Yeah.”
The archer glanced at (Y/N) then back to him. “We were going to ask you to be with us later today, but we weren’t sure if you would respond positively or not.”
Jason blinked then turned his attention to (Y/N). “Like…for sex?”
She directed her gaze to the ceiling, and she let out the longest and most tired sigh he’d ever heard her make.
“If we wanted you to have sex with us, we would have asked a long time ago.” (Y/N) sat up slightly and lay against his chest. “No, we want you to be with us, Jason. Romantically.”
His eyes widened. “You want me to be with you two? Like a poly relationship?” Both of them nodded and he turned his head up to the ceiling, staring, unblinkingly.
“Do you think we killed his brain, (Y/N)?” Roy chuckled as he nudged her in the side and she snorted, gently rising until she was in Jason’s line of sight.
“Roy and I have not been seeing each other for a long time Jason, but even if we have not, we have noticed that something is missing, and that something is you.” (Y/N) caressed his cheek with the back of her hand and murmured, “We both share your affections. Greatly and strongly do we share them.”
She smiled and leaned forward, pressing a kiss to his forehead. “We love you, Jason.”
He took a second to gaze between her and Roy, his heart stuck in his throat and when he received the heartwarming smile from Roy, he looked back at her.
“You both really want me to be with you?” he sounded so scared, so ready to have the rug pulled out from underneath him with a horrible, tasteless joke, but (Y/N) merely nodded.
“We do, Jason.” She gave him a sympathetic look. “But if you wish to leave, you may. We will not be upset at your hesitancy or refusal.”
Roy placed a hand on Jason’s clothed chest and added, “We want you, Jason, but if you’re uncomfortable with it, we understand.” He smiled and reassured, “You don’t have to do anything you don’t wanna do, Jaybird.”
They waited. Patiently. And it took Jason a few moments to remember how to breathe correctly again, but when he did, he nodded silently.
“I want to be here…with both of you,” he whispered and before he could even do a thing, the two of them had him caged between them, their heads resting on his shoulders, arms wrapped tightly around his middle.
But it wasn’t confining, it was comfortable, and it was loving. So loving that Jason’s eyes filled with tears and he shut them tight to avoid crying, but when his body began to shake, (Y/N) and Roy didn’t think twice before shifting and pressing their faces into his neck, showering him with praise and love-filled words.
And Jason fell asleep in the arms of the two people who he loved the most—and loved him as well.

chin fucking up, amigo.
Titans 3.02
... eh?
SPOILERS ahead.
1. you know that music video for billie jean where michael jackson would dance along the pavement and the tiles would light up under his feet in different colours? yeah? me too.
titans hasn’t met a table top or a support arch that it doesn’t want to light up in a headache-inducing blue like the world’s most boring nightlight. i mean, i’m not an expert on lighting or cinematography or just... colour by any means, and the quality of the video i’m watching is poor given that i can’t access hbo max, but all the orange and teal and neon is making it very difficult to really differentiate between say, the batcave and the gotham police department and hell, the titans tower. i feel like there’s oftentimes a gap between idea and execution with titans, with gotham being this almost otherwordly hellscape with an aesthetic pulled from a gothic horror novel, but the colours and design just... leave it flat and dark and dull.
1.5. like what really frustrates me is that titans has a delightful mix of tones--the fights often remind me of schumacher-era batman camp, with the contrived quips and the start-stop rhythm and krypto just sallying in and ending the fight with a fucking SuperBark (tm) but in the same episode you have red hood just casually pulling out severed heads out of a duffle bag and desperate people blackmailed into killing themselves out of drug overdoses. I MEAN. it’s wonderful! but it looks all the same. it sounds Absolutely Bonkers on paper but on screen both Quip and Murder happen in the same washed-out blue and i wanted to be excited about the batcave, dammit!
2. things re: red hood have happened at such a breakneck speed that it feels like there’s so much that’s happened off-screen that we’re not privy to. a real proper mystery!
things that are intriguing about the red hood arc so far:
a) what was that chemical he huffed just before going to fight the joker? is it a regular old performance/adrenaline booster or is it something more lazarus-juice adjacent? if it’s the latter, i can’t imagine he got that much information from a lone chemistry textbook. and where is he getting the resources to set up his little chemistry lab? is somebody else orchestrating things behind the scenes?
b) the red hood persona, costume and mask, plus the elaborate plan he’s putting in place to both string along gotham’s rogues and enact his revenge against the titans seems too... fully-formed and elaborate to have been concocted in just a few days. how long do you think jason’s been planning this? just... stewing in resentment and building rage, dismissed and passed around and underestimated and realising that the power he thought he would get by being robin is no power, no protection at all, but something that’s left him even more vulnerable than before?
c) do we think that the scarecrow is at least partly behind this transformation? because yes, it was batman that set up this whole hannibal lecter-esque situation with him, and he would be irresponsible enough to have jason-as-robin go talk to him regularly regarding “~profiling~” criminals. it’s not too far of a leap to assume that scarecrow could’ve been manipulating jason at a very vulnerable time, and that he could’ve passed along some of his chemistry know-how, too.
d) ... or fuck, i wouldn’t put it past titans to introduce ra’s al ghul in a fucking ten second aside
e) anyway, the thing that won’t leave me alone is jason seeking out the joker not necessarily to fight him, but to orchestrate his own death. the whole thing has to have been part of a bigger plan. he broke batman with it, after all. and he’s starting to break the titans, too.
f) i love it! i mean, it does re-tread some of the storybeats we had with deathstroke last season (turning the titans against each other as revenge, etc) but it’s... tighter, this time, and at least for now seems better-executed. and as a red hood story it’s different enough to be really interesting, and i appreciate the ways in which its reframed the revenge story to focus on the titans rather than just the batman. like fuck everything up, i say! turn it on its head! slash the innards out of that sacred cow and strew it like garlands in the path of the Story You Want To Tell!
(and yes i am fully aware that by the time i post this review, there will be a whole lot more information out but if i come across like a fool then goddammit i will be a fool!)
2. i love how every season of titans starts off with, ‘oh dick, you thought you were settling into a role and a life and a pattern of relationships? well fuck you, here’s a terrible and traumatic thing, tons more responsibility, and circumstances that will lead you to uproot your entire life and move somewhere else.’ and dick’s just like, ‘well, ok. fuck you, but all right’.
can you imagine? the man was just settling into leading a team in sf and smiling for the first time in years, and now he has to deal with jason’s death, bruce experiencing a full fledged breakdown, coming back to a city that represents more bad memories than good, red hood, and a frightening new case that seems to be targeting him and his team. it’s a testament to dick’s growth that he’s not reacting to this stress like he did last year, shutting everybody out, making irrational decisions and experiencing sharp, short bursts of anger. (not to mention a full fledged psychotic episode.)
2.5. but i’ve also talked about dick performing a fair amount of unwarranted emotional labour for his team(s) in that he just lets them take out their frustrations on him and... does nothing. be it his team exploding at him for jericho (both in flashback and present-day) or donna and hank needling him for handling deathstroke poorly or barbara berating him for not handling the bank situation as well as she thought batman would though just the previous episode she had talked about how fucked up it was that bruce just expected dick to step up and replace him in gotham without any real notice. i mean it’s all perfectly understandable and sympathetic from their end--and i’m not trying to bash them here!--but hank, my man, the same chin you’re asking your amigo to keep up is the one that you punched last year and never apologised for. just sayin’.
2.75. @superohclair did a wonderful breakdown of what the ‘fear’ contract could imply here and there’s not too much i could add to that. it’s just really interesting that fear ended up being such a defining feature of their lives, albeit it’s the fear of seeming less than invincible in the face of bigger, more tangible fears. am i making sense?  dick feared loss, and abandonment, and the more existential concept of turning into something that he didn’t want to. bruce so feared being alone that he’s scouting kids to replace robin within days of jason dying.
it also goes some way in explaining the tense sort of... restraint that bruce and dick show in the wake of loss and tragedy, like anything less than complete control of your emotions can lead to tragedy. it’s conditioning that dick couldn’t shake off when he was at his lowest in detroit, hating his legacy but unable to let it go either.
2.775. but i definitely appreciate the softness that dick displays with his team now, checking on them after a mission-gone-bad, welcoming back old members with no caveats or resentments (and kory’s delight in seeing hank back! hank and dick hanging out together and hank trying to prop dick up!), and appreciating their teamwork in solving cases. that’s always been the essence of dick as a person, and the beating heart of this show: flawed and traumatised people coming together to a place that will always be open to them, where they can be their worst and be supported still, allowed to make mistakes and grow from them. that’s family.
2.8. coming back to bruce for just a sec, it’s interesting how that gotham rogue was so certain when he said that ‘batman doesn’t kill’ but it’s not a rule that either jason or dick put much store by when they were robins. the ‘no-killing’ rule clearly didn’t mitigate dick’s fears about turning into batman and jason’s never been seeing giving two shits about it. it seems to me of a piece with bruce’s distant, second-hand sort of parenting that we see in dick’s flashbacks from s1 where the fear was never about personally disappointing batman, but taking lessons from him on finding a place in gotham’s hellish ecosystem and surviving.
3. kory having waking flashbacks! i don’t buy the bullshit parasomnia episode explanation from fake!HPG (because c’mon, justin has to be some sort of tamaranean ruse) because for one, you have to be actually asleep for that diagnosis.
(and here i was, hoping against hope that HPG would actually end up as the team’s therapist)
curiouser and curiouser! i wonder if these flashbacks are from the time between kory landing on earth and the beginning of season 1, when she was completely amnesiac? it’d be cool if the show was considering repercussions from that time, and if kory hasn’t gained all her memories back.
4. i just love the vibes between gar and conner and kory. gar Having Things To Do is only one part of my wishlist for him, however: other parts include having an actual story arc, and actually bonding with members who are not conner and kory. (dick! dick! hank! dick!)
anyway. time to move on to watching ep3 and seeing this family bond and nothing terrible and tragic happening at all, nope, nosiree.

And I totally see 190 with mari and dick. But I've put in a lot of requests and i know each one takes a lot of your time and effort, so feel free to ignore me
This is my first attempt at Dickinette finished at like 2am. I hope I have served you all well.
-------------------
Dick was extremely worried about the petite young lady at the end of the bar.
The dark haired girl had been drinking by herself for about an hour, and the longer she sat there, the sadder she appeared. Her eyes were dim, focused on the drink in front of her. Her skin was flushed, most likely from the alcohol. She was wearing a pink babydoll dress that accented her delicate curves. She had white stockings and black ballet flats. Her hair was loose, cascading past her shoulders.
She looked so sad.
Dick sighed deeply side eyeing Wally and Roy. The two red-heads were laughing and downing their own drinks. It looked like those two were already well on their way to being wasted. Dick was a little irritated as it had been his best friends’ idea to take him out drinking. It was supposed to help him get over Starfire…
The Tameranean had broke up with Dick a few months ago. The man was mostly over it, but it still stung. They’d been dating since they were teenagers. They used to get along almost perfectly, but things had changed as they grew up. Dick was no longer Robin. Dick was Nightwing now, and with the new mantle came new problems.
Starfire herself was dealing with her own developing issues as a member of the Tamaranean royal family. Kor’i refused to abandon her responsibilities, and Dick could respect that. She knew Dick wouldn’t abandon his responsibilities either, so that spelt the end for their relationship. Kor’i told him she would always treasure their time together, and that he would always be one of her best friends.
She’d left for Tameran shortly afterword.
Wally and Roy had gotten tired of Dick’s moping, so they had dedicated the last few weeks to pulling him out of his funk. This was the fifth bar this week, and Dick was getting exasperated. He had let himself be sad, and now he was accepting what was and began to move on. He appreciated his friends for wanting to cheer him up, but Dick did need some alone time.
Which brought him back to the little lady at the end of the bar.
She was all alone and appeared to be intoxicated. She was vulnerable and attracting attention. A few men had bought her drinks, though she hadn’t touched them, ordering her own instead. Dick was relieved to see she still had that much sense, but the more she drank, the more men that gathered around her. It made Dick’s instincts scream at him to do something, anything, to help her.
Dick decided to go over and invite her to sit with them. If she turned that down, Dick would volunteer to order her an Uber to take her home. He just couldn’t leave her sitting at the end of the bar by herself with the wolves waiting to devour her. Dick noted that neither Roy nor Wally noticed him slipping away, so he grabbed his jacket and walked over to her.
“Hi,” he said, giving her a small smile. “...are you doing okay?”
The woman turned, and Dick felt his breath catch in his throat. Her eyes were a gorgeous slate grey filled with unshed tears. She had a cute button nose with a splattering of light freckles across the bridge. She was frowning, petal pink lips drawn thin as if she were trying not to burst out crying. He saw the tears begin to build up as she looked at him once before biting, “Do people go to a bar if they’re okay?”
Dick winced, but tried not to take it personally. She was clearly upset about something, and he was certain all the extra male attention wasn’t making her mood any better. She probably just wanted to be left alone to drown her sorrows in peace. Unfortunately for her, that wasn’t how Gotham worked. A pretty lady like her drinking alone could only spell disaster.
“Well, my two buddies are here, and their lives are most certainly fine,” he said, pointing a finger to the two intoxicated red-heads. “They dragged me here because they think I’m miserable.”
“Why would they think that?” she said, her accent coming out.
Huh, so she was French? That would explain why she didn’t seem to realize how dangerous Gotham was.
“My girlfriend and I broke up. We’d been dating since we were around fourteen,” Dick answered honestly. “Kor’i had family problems, and I had my own responsibilities. In the end, it just didn’t work out. I was sad for a little bit, but she was right. We couldn’t compromise...I just miss her. She’d been a constant presence in my life for the better part of seven years, after all.”
That seemed to reach the woman, who had now put her glass of wine down. She was no longer looking at him with hostility, but something else. It wasn’t a look of pity. Dick knew the difference between looks of pity and genuine empathy. The dark haired woman rubbed her arms before gesturing to the open seat next to her. She then smiled bitterly at him before sighing, “Love sucks, doesn’t it? My boyfriend never loved me for me. He cheated on me.”
Dick looked apologetic as he sat down next to her. He held out his hand and said, “Richard, it’s nice to meet you. My friends call me Dick.”
Her delicate hand reached out to grab his. Dick marveled at how small her fingers were in comparison to his. They were soft, but definitely did not lack strength. Her handshake was surprisingly firm for such a small woman.“Marinette,” she said. “I don’t have any friends.”
“I doubt that,” Dick replied. “Everyone has friends.”
“Not me.”
Dick lifted his hand to get the bartender’s attention. He ordered a glass of semi-dry red wine and took a sip.
“Like I said already, my buddies brought me here. The red-head who looks like he could toss a man is Roy. His adopted father and my adopted father are business rivals, so we hung out a lot growing up. The other red-head who’s giggling like a nut is Wally. He’s a real jokester, but he’s one of the most reliable friends I have,” he said. “I’m currently working at Wayne Enterprises, but I’m trying to get a different job.”
“Don’t like it there?” Marinette asked softly.
“...I had a fight with my adopted father,” he admitted with a shrug. “It’s his company…”
“So you don’t want to work there any more,” she said with a firm nod. “That’s understandable. I left Paris to get away.”
“Away from what?”
Marinette seemed to glance anxiously at him before tossing her wine glass back and chugging the contents. Once she was done, she began to tell him about her life in Paris. She started with explaining that her parents, while loving and supportive individuals, had given her freedom to the point of neglect as a child. She told him that she still loved her parents and knew they loved her, but that was the reason she’d had such a hard time asking them for help with things.
Marinette moved on to discuss how she’d had a few friends growing up as a child. She told him that she realized that she’d had fewer friends than she thought when a girl named Lila Rossi came to her lycee. The young woman went on to discuss how things had gotten terrible. Most of her friends had turned their back on her the second this Lila girl began spreading her lies. There had been only a handful of people who knew the girl was lying.
That had caused so much on strain on many of her relationships in which was only made worse by how much work Marinette was doing. Marinette had been her class’s president which was a lot of work. Her one friend had quit as her deputy after being pulled in by this Lila girl’s lies. This had left Marinette alone to do all of the work for her class.
“Not to mention all my commissions, things were goddamn nightmare,” Marinette said, quietly thanking the bartender for her new glass of wine. “Commissions? Are you an artist?” Dick asked.
Marinette seemed to light up at that.
“I’m actually a budding fashion designer!” she said brightly. “I’ve been doing it since I was young. I actually made the dress I’m wearing right now.”
Dick’s eyes scanned her dress more closely this time.
“That’s really impressive,” Dick said. “That looks like hand stitching! The embroidery on the neckline is gorgeous. Did you really sew this all by hand?”
Marinette nodded excitedly, telling Dick it had taken her only a few days to make. She went on to discuss how she’d been trying to establish her brand in the United States for a few months, but progress had been slow.
“I love designing and creating things,” Marinette said sweetly.
“Really? I’d love to see some more of your designs! Do you just design women’s dresses or do you make more?” he asked.
Marinette suddenly went very quiet. Her grip on her drink tightened before her eyes welled up with tears once again. The tears began to drip down her cheeks as her body began to tremble. She sniffed a few times before chugging the rest of her wine. It took everything in her not to slam the glass down on the counter as all the emotions she’d tried to suppress came rushing to the surface.
“...what did I do wrong?”
Dick felt himself start to panic as he saw the woman’s reaction. He hadn’t meant to make her cry! He was supposed to be making her feel better! He rushed to try and think of a way to change the subject when she asked her question. He watched in horror as she began to dissolve into tears, reaching out gently to touch her arm.
“...what did I do wrong? I did everything he’d asked of me. I was honest. I never cheated. I never—” she cried. “Why couldn’t he love me for me?”
The dark haired man gently scooched his chair closer to Marinette. He then wrapped a comforting arm around her shoulders, pulling her close in a show of support. He listened to her cry, feeling his own anger stirring. He was enraged to think that her model would date her just because he figured out she was someone he looked up to! If he didn’t love Marinette as herself, why would he want to date her after learning she was a famous designer?
“Honestly, sounds like you didn’t do anything wrong,” Dick said quietly. “To me it simply sounds like this guy was a complete idiot who wouldn’t know a good, talented woman if one bit him in the ass.”
Marinette’s grey eyes darted to him, searching for any dishonesty. When she found none, she smiled weakly and thanked him for trying to make her feel better. Wiping her eyes, she told Dick that she was going to go home and sleep the alcohol off. As she moved to get up, Marinette wobbled unsteadily and had to grasp Dick for support.
“I think I may be slightly more drunk than I thought,” she whispered, her cheeks turning bright red.
Dick simply smiled at her before draping his coat over Marinette. He stood up and gently guided her away from the bar and out into the cool Gotham air. He noted how she shivered, pulling closer to him before mumbling, “Don’t like the cold.”
“C’mon Nettie, I’ll get you a ride home—”
“Don’t wanna go back.”
“Nettie—”
“He’s there.”
This made the man stop. The guy she was avoiding was at her place of residence? Did they live together? What was she going to do now? Marinette was clearly drunk and vulnerable. What would happen if she went back home and this douchebag was still there? It made Dick’s skin crawl, so he decided to choose the lesser of two evils.
He fished out his phone and dialed a number he was secretly hoping he’d never have to call again.  Dick nearly breathed out a sigh of relief when a welcomingly familiar voice answered the phone.
“...hey Alfred...it’s Dick. Is Bruce out?”
“Why yes, Master Dick. He took Jason out this evening.”
“...could you come pick us up? I ran into an old friend, and she got pretty drunk. I’m afraid to send her home by herself.”
“Of course, Master Dick. Shall I set up a room for you as well?”
Dick could hear the hopefulness in Alfred’s voice as he added that Jason would probably like to see him as well. Dick gritted his teeth but wasn’t able to answer before Marinette’s sweet voice asked him who Jason was. One he’d told her who Jason was, Marinette got a very firm look on her face.
“You should stay. This Bruce might be a big idiot, but the little boy has nothing to do with it. Are you really going to be mean to the little boy who looks up to you because you’re mad at someone else? Because that doesn’t seem right at all. What did little Jason ever do to you?”
He would have laughed if he hadn’t been so shocked. Marinette had been an inconsolable sobbing mess only moments before. Now she was spitting out wisdom like she was freaking Buddah. He had to admit she had a point though. His problem was solely with Bruce, and Jason didn’t have anything to do with it. Jason hadn’t done anything to warrant the kind of treatment Dick had been giving him.
“...I’ll stay, Alfred. Only for Jason. I refuse to talk to Bruce.”
“I’m glad to hear that, Master Dick. Jason could use the help of someone experienced in dealing with Master Bruce,” the relief was clear in his voice. “I’ll come get you, and then set up your rooms.”
“You’re experienced there too, you know?”
“Yes, Master Dick… but I’m not a young man, and I’m not Master Bruce’s son like you are. I firmly believe he’ll relate to you better.”
Dick mentally agreed, but thanked Alfred and hung up the phone. He turned his attention back to Marinette, whose grey eyes were watching him closely. She looked almost lost as if she didn’t know what to do now. He could see the anxiety coming back to her expression and quickly asked her what was wrong.
“Should I really come over if you’re having issues with him? I don’t want to make things worse—”
“Nettie, you’re fine. Just stick close, and I’ll keep you warm and safe until Alfred gets here. Then you can go to sleep in a safe place,” Dick said firmly. “I’ll work things out with Jason. Bruce is just being stubborn and refusing to admit he’s wrong. It’s enough to drive anyone crazy.”
Marinette’s drunken mind seemed to crash.
She could vaguely remember him using the nickname before, but it hadn’t hit her until just then. Dick was calling her Nettie. Dick had given her a nickname. Dick was offering her a safe place to stay. Dick was standing here, making sure she was safe and warm while his friends were still drinking inside. Dick had left his friends to see if she was okay…
Her face, already slightly flushed from the alcohol, got redder as she locked eyes with the enchanting man next to her. She’d made a mental note of him before, dark hair and blue eyes, but now she was looking at him closely. He had beautiful cheekbones and eyes that carried a mischievousness to them. A smile always seemed to be tugging at the corner of his mouth, and he was stronger than Marinette originally thought
He was muscular, but not in the way one who lifts a lot of weights would be. He had muscles more like… a dancer.
Marinette got so tangled up in her thoughts she didn’t notice the limo pull up beside them. It wasn’t until Dick began gently guiding her to the door that Marinette even realized the car was there. Time blurred for her after that as she let Dick take care of her. The last thing she’d be able to recall the next day was an elderly man showing her a room, and plopping herself onto the bed.
Dick had come to wake her up the next morning with some ibuprofen and water.
He’d smiled at her the same way he had when he greeted her at the bar. It still made her feel weak and brought a small smile of her own to her face. Dick had then talked to her about the previous night’s events, and what had happened. He told her not to worry about crashing at the manor as he himself hadn’t felt comfortable sending her back home. He then offered his assistance in either kicking her boyfriend out of her home or helping her relocate.
“Why would you do that?” she asked quietly. “Why do you even care?”
“Because I’m your friend, Nettie.”
“Why?”
“...because right now, we could both use a good friend,” Dick said softly. “One that listens to me instead of dragging me out to bars. One that tells me to shut up and man up when I’m wrong. You may not remember it, but you set me straight last night. I’m going to talk to Jason. Fighting with Bruce or not, he still adopted Jason which makes him my little brother. I shouldn’t take my anger out on him.”
Marinette’s eyes widened as she set the glass of water down beside her.
“I did that?” she murmured.
“Yeah, you did. You could also use someone who isn’t going to use you for money or fame. You seemed really nice, and it sounds like a lot of people took that for granted or abused it. That’s not fair to you,” he added. “So what do you say? Are we at least friends?”
As Dick held his hand out to Marinette, her face began to heat up. She managed to keep herself together long enough to shake his hand, a shy smile appearing on her face. She felt her heart thud in her chest as the man with sky-blue eyes smiled the most perfect smile at her.
Sure...they could be friends for now.

DamiRae week 2020 Day 3: Last Time/First Time
So I changed this idea a little bit, instead of their “first kiss/last kiss” I wrote their last moments together in New 52 and their first moments together in Rebirth. I hope everyone likes it!
-
 Year 2022
Raven had lived on the coast of San Francisco for a good half of her nineteen years in this world, and never once had she experienced the bone chilling silence that was surrounding Titan’s Tower, until now. No calming sea breeze, no gulls calling out, no distant beeping of traffic. There was just...nothing. It was like the whole world had been put on pause while they were on Apokolips and someone had forgotten to press play when they returned.
Perhaps something had gone wrong while they were passing through the portal back to Earth and they had actually died or got stuck in some sort of void.
Her heart gave a heavy thud against her chest and she stopped pacing, which she hadn’t really realized she was doing until she halted. Her mind was too distracted; too busy worrying about Damian and the others and whether or not they would make it back from the Himalaya’s alright, or if they had even reached the Himalaya’s at all.
“Raven,”
Cold metal touched Raven’s arm causing her to jump in her spot. She turned quickly to see what she had felt and readied herself in case she needed to defend herself. Her mind was still a bit of a mess from their earlier escapades and was having a hard time to calm itself. Luckily it was Diana who stood there, her cyborg form only confusing Raven for a moment.
For the first time since they had arrived back to Titans Tower, Raven finally took a look around her, noticing the others who had come back as well. She had been so shell-shocked that she hadn’t noticed Martian Manhunter and Hawkman sitting together, almost lifelessly on the grass or Berry Allen with his back against a small cliff. She hadn’t noticed Mera sitting closer to the shore, tears streaming down her cheeks as she looked out at the water. She hadn’t noticed Kory, dear sweet Kory sitting by herself, her one remaining eye hollowly looking ahead of her, or maybe looking nowhere. She hadn’t noticed anything.
“They’ll be okay. Why don’t you sit down?” Diana spoke softly while motioning to a large rock that sat a few feet away. Raven looked at it for a second before turning back to the brunette, their eyes meeting.
She knew she was just worrying, just paranoid from her past experiences. They hadn’t been gone all that long, it might do her good to sit and rest.
Raven nodded but before either of them could move, a large golden portal opened beside them and Titus jumped out and ran into the grass. Spinning around, he watched as a group of people followed him out; Damian, Clark and Bruce assisting a very restrained and shaken Dick Grayson, and Constantine bringing up the rear. He closed the portal once they were all through.
Raven felt an enormous wave of relief wash over her as her eyes rested on Damian who was stroking Titus’ head.  When Darkseid had killed him in front of her...well...she had been injured many times before in her life, but that amount of pain, she would never wish it on anybody.
“Easy,” Clark mumbled as he and Bruce brought Dick over to Kory. Her metal body twisted around to see them. The only amount of face she had left fell with heartbreak upon seeing her lover being brought to her in restraints. Marriage. Children. Any life together that they had hoped for was impossible now, and Raven felt every bit of Kory’s suffering. She wanted to hold Damian now more than ever.
Clark and Bruce stopped just before they reached the Tamaranean cyborg, allowing Dick to see her before they came too close. At first, he didn’t seem to notice her but instead thrashed his head around and groaned. Perhaps the waters of the Lazarus pits had done too much damage.
“Dick, open your eyes.” Bruce commanded sternly. Dick, whose eyes had been closed as he thrashed about, stopped and looked forward. His exposed amber eye widened and he stared at Kory’s emerald one, tears streaming down her tangerine cheek.
Damian walked over to Raven and Diana as they watched the interaction between the two former partners, his arm snaking around Raven’s waist and pulling her into him. She gladly lent into him, her heart still hurting for her friends. Titus walked past them and trotted straight over to Mera, who had not even bothered to look up and instead had begun to cry softly into her hands.
Raven’s heart broke even more. Everyone had lost in this war, but she had been able to keep the one she loved, she could still hold him and hear his voice. Even though they hadn’t been together long, he had always been there, she had always loved him. It would have killed her if he had died, but he didn’t, and here they were. A strange sense of guilt snaked through her veins.
“K-Kory...”Dick managed to mumble, his speech slightly slurred. What little was left of Kory’s face scrunched up in happiness and she held both of her metal arms out, more and more tears falling from her eye.
The two Justice League members let go of the former acrobat and let him fall forward into Kory’s arms. She cradled him, her one eye showing more emotion that Raven had ever seen from her entire face.
Bruce and Clark walked over to Raven and the others, Clark nodding at Diana before the two of them headed towards Constantine and Berry. Bruce stopped only for a moment to look down at his son. His face was unreadable, as always, but he raised his hand and placed on Damian’s shoulder, as if telling him it would be alright. Then, without hesitation he dropped his hand and continued after the other two.
Damian held Raven for a moment before leading her to the rock Diana had pointed out earlier and sitting down on it. Raven sat as well, finally realizing just how tired her legs had been. She leaned into him.
“What now? She said in an exhausted whisper. Damian sighed deeply.
“I don’t know.”
There were very few times when the former assassin “didn’t know” something, it should have scared Raven. But it didn’t; what she had been feeling for the past two years, that was fear. The uncertainty of the future, it didn’t matter. Not as long as she was with Damian, and he was with her.
She snuggled into his chest and the feeling of his ribcage rising and falling with each breathe he took soothed her.
It had been so long that she had wanted this, so long since she had craved his touch. She had known she was in love with him since she was fourteen years old and she had seen the inside of his heart and mind, knowing he was a truly beautiful but damaged person, like her. Her fear of rejection and of her father kept her from doing anything about it however, and for years she had just suffered through it.
She loved him with every fiber of her being; it had killed her when she told him that she wouldn’t go with him to the Himalaya’s, it had killed her to say goodbye. Not a day while living with Clark and Lois went by that she didn’t wonder if she had made the right choice. Not a day went by without her wishing she had gotten the chance to tell him.
And now here they were.
Finally together, but with nothing else.
“I’m glad that you came with us.” Raven confessed after a moment of silence. “I was afraid I was never going to see you again.”
Damian leaned his head to the side, resting his chin on the top of her head. “I was almost certain we wouldn’t.”
Raven tried to swallow but her mouth was dry. “Did you ever think about me...in the mountains?”
Pushing her slightly off of him so that he could look down at her, Damian frowned.
“Raven, not a day went by where I didn’t think about you. Wondering if you were alright, hating myself for not being there to protect you.”
“You?” Raven jeered with a slight smirk and the raise of an eyebrow. “Protect me?”
Damian made a face, but Raven knew he was suppressing a smile. He always tried to.
“Well...for not being there for backup if you ever needed it.” His face softened. “I wish I had had the courage to tell you about my feelings years ago.”
Raven’s bottom lip quivered as she felt herself relax into him. “Me too.”
The sound of something ripping across the water caught both teens attention and they looked forward to see something red shooting off into the distance.
Damian went tense and Raven’s heart fell. She knew exactly what that red thing was, and she knew what was going on. She supposed they all did.
A reset.
They were sending Berry back in time, to stop this from happening. It had been done before, so they knew it could work, and probably assumed this was their best option. But it hurt nonetheless.
Damian’s grip tightened on Raven’s side, and she could hear him inhale. He was thinking the same thing she was; there time together was being cut short. Perhaps their lives were meant to be tragic ones.
Just as Dick and Kory, Clark and Lois, Mera and Arthur and so many others...they were not destined for a happy ending. No starting and family and growing old together. No years of laughing and arguments and happiness.
Not this time.
As the horizon began to shine brightly and a bright fog rolled towards them, Raven looked at her teammate, significant other, friend. Damian moved with her, like they were magnets, his eyes staring through the whites of his mask. Raven’s own eyes searched his face. She knew what she wanted, what he wanted. And if they did not act now, then they might never get the chance.
Leaning forward, Raven placed her hand on his cheek, the slight sharp poke indicating that stubble was beginning to break through the skin. Without hesitation, Damian leaned forward and captured her lips quickly, giving her no time to be shy. She closed her eyes.
He was rough, hungry, like he had waited his entire life to kiss her.
God this felt good. Why did it have to be their last? How cruel destiny was.
As her skin began to feel tingly, she wrapped her arms around his neck, leaning her lips away and resting her forehead against his. Tears ran down her face, both from happiness and defeat.
She loved this boy more than anyone she had ever met. He was her home, and by the will of every God there was...she would meet him again.
“I love you, Raven.” He said, his voice beginning to echo. But despite the echo, there was no mistaking the slight quiver to his tone.
“I love you, Damian Wayne.” She knew her next words were going to be futile, but she needed to hear the words. She needed something in this final moment together to be promising. “Remember me.”
“I pro-“
Everything went white.
 Year 2016
“Come on, you were excited about joining the Teen Titans until like...ten minutes ago. What happened?” Dick questioned, taking one hand off the wheel to slap Damian on the thigh. Damian swatted at his arm, his young face scrunching in annoyance.
“Would you keep your hands on the wheel! I knew I should have driven myself.”
“The last time I checked, thirteen was not old enough to drive in the State of California.” Dick placed his hand back on the wheel and smiled, his blue eyes never once staying from the winding costal road ahead of them.
“That hardly matters; I’m a better driver than half the population of this inept country. And I didn’t change my mind! I just...”he trailed off, turning to look out of the window while he thought. Dick waited for a moment for him to continue, but he didn’t.
“You know you can always come home for visits.” The older man teased with a chuckle. “And hey! In only three years, Jon might decide to join you!”
Damian rolled his eyes. “You think I care if that alien half-breed joins this pointless team or not?”
“Bruce told me you guys have gotten close, which is great considering a kid your age should have friends.”
“I don’t need anybody.” Damian spat, but his attention was caught by the large T shaped tower that was just peaking from behind the seaside cliffs. He had heard about the Titans Tower before, but never had seen it. It was one thing he was actually looking forward to. Not that he was completely uninterested in joining the Titan’s, he liked that he was going to finally be a part of something with a title, something different than being his father’s sidekick. It was just the teammate aspect of it that was making him weary.
Teammates were a liability and he already had enough “friends”. He didn’t need any more.
“Well,” Dick said with a sigh. “We’re basically here already, so you’re staying whether you like it or not.”
As they got closer and closer, Damian could see just how big it was. The things his father threw his money towards never ceased to amaze him.
Waiting by the front doors of the tower was a large, beautiful woman. Well...alien woman, but Damain was used to those enough now to just call them women. She had bright green eyes with no pupils and orange skin, which was different to say the least. But other than that, she looked quite gorgeous, what with her long fiery hair dancing behind her in the wind.
Beside her, was a dark skinned boy, dressed casually in jeans and a yellow sweater; the sweater bearing a large yellow lightning bolt, indicating that he was a speedster. Kid Flash.
Next was a shorter boy with green hair, green skin, green eyes and...well ...a green t-shirt. His large toothy grin showed off four distinct fangs. Damian had heard of him and could easily say that he was least excited to meet him; Beast Boy.
The last was a girl; pretty features that were hidden away behind a large, blue cloak. Again, he had heard about this one through whispers from League members. She was dangerous, unstable. A witch who had the power to destroy the entire world if she so desired. At least she could be interesting.
Dick pulled the car up to the greeting committee and clicked open his seatbelt.
“Just remember. They are your friends Damian. Not targets.” He laughed, causing Damian to huff and unbuckle himself, quickly getting out of the car. Dick followed suit.
“Richard.” The alien, known as Koriand’r, or Kory for short chimed at the older Robin. “How nice to see you again.”
Dick waved as he and Damian walked over to them. “It has been a while. Sorry I can’t stay to catch up; I have a dinner with Barbara’s folks tonight. So, I’m just dropping this one off and heading out.”
He patted the top of Damian’s head.
Kory smiled and shook her head. “Of course. Next time we need to make certain we do catch up.” She turned to the younger boy. “You must be Damian. I’m Koriand’r, leader of the Teen Titans.”
“I know who you are.” Damian said with a nod, but Dick nudged him roughly. “It’s nice to meet you.”
“And I’m Garfield!” the green boy said excitedly, rushing over to Damian and grabbing his hand to shake violently. Damian was too shocked by his sudden movements to react and he merely stared at him. “I can turn into just about any animal you can think of! Which is to-ta-lly awesome!”
Quickly, he began to morph into animal after animal, some bigger some smaller. Damian and Dick jumped back a step in fear that one of the larger ones would step on them. Wally sighed, and in a blink appeared beside Garfield who was now a cat, quickly grabbing the scruff of his neck and picking him up, holding him in the air. The changeling laughed.
“You get used to it, don’t worry.” Wally muttered towards Damian, his tone as annoyed as Damian felt. “I’m Wally West.”
He held out his hand for Damian to shake, which he surprisingly accepted.
Damian’s green eyes shifted to the hooded girl who was walking over to them, her face cast in shadows. Something about her intrigued him as she got closer, the way she moved perhaps, almost seeming to ghost along the ground.
When she reached them she reached up and took her hood off, allowing her face to be fully visible for the first time.
Damian blinked.
She was beautiful, in a dark, mysterious sort of way; pale skin, violet purple eyes, beautiful features almost too perfect to be human. But then again, he supposed she wasn’t. Not fully at least.
But what captured him the most about her was the strange sense of familiarity he felt towards her. It was like he had seen her before, but he hadn’t. Maybe he had seen her records in the batcave. He did often snoop out of his own curiosity whenever Bruce would leave him home alone.
She smiled at him, her violet eyes looking at him in a strange way. Almost as though she were thinking the same thing, that he looked familiar.
“Hey,” she greeted him. “I’m Raven. It’s probably best if you just...ignore him.” She nodded towards the cat. Garfield snapped at her for the jest and sprung back into a human. Raven’s face pulled into a smile and she giggled quietly, covering her mouth with her hand.
Damian’s world froze for a split second, strange clips of distant memories that he could barely peace together flashing through his mind. Like remnants from his subconscious.
Maybe the journey from Gotham had taken more out of him than he had thought.
“I was planning on it.” Damian said back sternly, but Raven cast her content smile at him, catching his attempt at being not hostile.
Maybe joining the Titans wouldn’t be as bad as he thought it would. Maybe one day he would consider them his friends.
The possibilities for the future were endless.

Secret Apprentice: Chapter 6
The Last Date
Chapter 5 - Chapter 7  (AO3) (FF.NET)
Summary: Robin, Starfire and her strawberry dress finally get to have the date she’s been dreaming of. It’s not under the best circumstances but at least she gets to know a little more of how Robin feels about her. But when Slade and Blackfire arrive on Earth, the Tamaranean princess is reminded of what her live has become.
Chapter 6: The Last Date
Starfire sighed after closing the communicator. She knew what she had to do. She peeked out of her room; Robin wasn’t there. She flew to the security room and disabled everything. Then she ran to the main room. Cyborg, Beast Boy and Raven were there. Robin came in, he was wearing blue jeans, snickers, a white t-shirt and a varsity red jacket on top. He was still wearing his mask. “Star, where were you?”, he stopped to look at her. The rest of the team looked at both of them in awe. “Dude! Why are you two looking that cool?”, Beast Boy yelled running to the couple. “Wow, Star, you look like a model”, Cyborg joined in. “You look like a human”, he joked as he looked at Robin. “Are we going out?”, Beast Boy asked excited. “Let me get my cool outfit”, he was about to walk out but Raven stopped him. “We are not, they are”, she slowly spoke to the shape shifter trying to signal to him that the couple was about to go on a date. “Oh...”, Beast Boy laughed nervously. “Star, you look amazing”, Robin pointed out. “Thank you, Robin and Cyborg. Beast Boy is right”, she clapped excitedly again. “He is?”, Robin and Cyborg asked. “Am I?”, BB joined in. “Guess there is a first time for everything”, Raven blatantly stated. “Yes! Since I have recently did the opening of  my heart to you, my friends, I wish to continue by showing you a place that I have been going to when I was feeling the sadness so I can make the happiest memories with you there”, she lifted herself up. “But, Star, I thought we were-“, she cut him off. “Let me just-“, Cyborg was about to leave maybe to go check the security room but she grabbed his and Robin’s hand, and flew them away. Raven and Beast Boy followed her through the night sky. There was one hour and a half until Slade and Blackfire landed on Earth when she left the Tower. She was scared of what was coming, but she had to put her friends out of danger.
They flew through the woods and then landed on the lodge. She knew this was dangerous, but it was the only plan she had and it was a safe place were Blackfire couldn’t find them. Slade didn’t trust Starfire that much, so he hid most of his things when he wasn’t in the lodge. His room was always locked either way and he had taken his computer, weapons, uniforms and everything that could identify him. She didn’t know if Red X had done the same thing, but she guessed he had. He went to lodge before she did, so he should have taken everything. A part of her was still thinking about how he left. She felt guilty for hurting him. But why did she hurt him? And was he even hurt?
When they landed everyone was amazed by the beautiful house. “Starfire, is this yours?”, Robin asked. “I guess being a hero has its benefits. Can this be our vacations house? Can we have a beach house?”, Beast Boy asked Robin. “We are surrounded by water in our house”, Raven answered before the leader could. “Come in, friends, you will like the inside better”, the Tamaranean hopped to the door. She did the face recognition check at the entrance and the main door opened. The Titans entered after her. They were amazed by the inside too. “Wow, Star, you’ve got taste”, Cyborg pointed out. “I like it”, Raven walked into the dining room, which was all surrounded by glass walls. There was no sign of Slade or Red X. Beast Boy went into the kitchen. “Sweet! There’s tofu”, she didn’t know that, but she was glad. Cyborg sat in the living room and turned on the TV. Raven sat with him as they looked through the different channels. “So, you come here when you want to be alone? How did you find this place?”, Robin asked looking around but still standing by her side. “I was wondering around this area after flying for a while and then I found it. It reminded me of the pictures in the magazines. It was on sale, so I called, and they let me have it as a gift from the city”, she smiled. “It’s almost out of the city”, he mumbled. The mall where she got the dress wasn’t that far from here, he thought. It was closer to the lodge than to the Tower.
“Where can I ask for my gift from the city?”, Beast Boy entered the conversation, following Robin to the living room as they both admired the place.
“Isn’t the Tower our gift from the city?”, Raven asked looking at Robin. “Cyborg made the tower”, Beast Boy cut in. “I made it, but I didn’t pay for it. I asked Robin for the things I needed to build it and he gave them to me”, Beast Boy gasped dramatically. “What? How come you don’t buy me the things I ask for? Like the moped! I had to work for tofu aliens to get it and I don’t even have it now!”, he shook his head, acting like he was crying. “Because I didn’t pay for those things that Cyborg asked me to buy”, Raven moved a little bit closer to Cyborg as Beast Boy sat by her left side. “Then your daddy bought them?”, Beast Boy raised his right eyebrow as he teased the masked boy who stood in front of him. “This discussion is so mature…”, Raven rolled her eyes, crossing her arms on her chest. “He is not my…”, Beast Boy started laughing. “Man, it’s okay if your millionaire daddy payed for everything. Can we send him a thank you card?”, Cyborg joined into the teasing. “He didn’t pay for the Tower and it isn’t a gift from the city. It was given to us by the league”, Robin explained, sitting down on the seat next to BB. “What? Who are those league dudes? Or dudettes?”, Beast Boy moved forward pushing Raven lightly when he did. “It sounds important and you are not the right person to know that type of information”, Raven pointed out. “Dude! I just think it’s unfair that Robin gets to know the cool stuff, the grown-up stuff and we are left in the dark”, Robin moved forward too, still sitting on his seat. “It’s a long story”. Robin sighed. “Besides, you are the one with access to a grown-up with the mask. Sounds logical to me, I don’t think there’s anything else to explain”, Cyborg turned his attention back to the TV. “Oh, come on! I want to meet your dad, at least take us for a vacation in... Gotham”, Beast Boy whispered the name of the city trying to sound mysterious. Gotham! Robin looked up to the kitchen, he didn’t see Starfire where he left her.
“Next time you save the world from tofu aliens, I’ll take you”, Robin jokingly said as he stood up. He looked around the kitchen and the dining room. The bathroom was empty too. Then he walked to the other side of the lodge, to the corridor where the bedrooms were. The first door was Starfire’s bedroom. He saw a couple of soda cans on the floor but no sign of Starfire. Then he walked into the next room: there she was.
Starfire was sitting on the edge of the bed, her back facing the door. In her hand she held a post card with a picture of Gotham. On the back, Red X had left her a note that said, “in case you were wondering - X”. She was amazed by how much the city resembled Jason; he was just like that. Kind of dark, but more intriguing than scary.
“Star?”, she heard Robin’s voice calling her name. She didn’t want to, but she hid the picture inside the top of her dress. Lucky for her, it was not that big of a post card. Then she turned around. “Hello, Robin”, she smiled at her friend.
“So, our date...”, Robin mentioned as he entered the room. She stood up and took his hand, guiding him out of the room.
She took him to the front patio, pulling him by his hand as she giggled. When they arrived, she showed him one of her biggest smiles, making her eyes smile too. Then she sat down on the middle of the grass. He sat next to her. She was sitting with her legs flexed to the side, just like a princess would do. Robin sat with his legs stretched out and his hands by the sides of his body. “Are you okay, Star?”, he asked. She nodded. “I am so sorry that you felt like you said you did, Star. I really am”. She looked to the night sky. “When you started to go away without saying anything to me, I felt left out. You are my best friend and I didn’t know why you were leaving or if you were coming back”, he sighed and let his head down. “I was scared of losing you”, he finished, and she turned her head to look at him. “Robin...”, she said in a soft tone. “That day on the Ferris wheel, when the robot took you, I was so angry that it took you away from me, from us. But that night, when I caught you flying away, I felt something else. You wanted to leave because we didn’t notice that you were struggling with your sister’s visit. I’ve never forgotten that day in particular. You are so strong and one of your biggest strengths is in your emotions. I am not like that, you know. So, it was hard for me to understand how much something could emotionally affect you to the point where you wanted to leave the team. But when I got it, I promised myself I would be there for you. To take care of you and protect your heart too. That’s why it pains me to hear that you have been struggling to that point”, she moved her hand closer to his and put her fingers on top of his. “Robin, you are the most amazing friend I could have asked for. You do not have to say sorry”, she assured him in her usual caring way of speaking. “Starfire?”, he moved a little bit closer to her. “Yes, Robin?”, he turned his face to the side, to check what were the rest of the team up to. Starfire looked back at the lodge too. The trio were sleeping on the couch in front of the TV. Raven sat in the middle of the two boys. Beast Boy had his head on Raven’s shoulder. Cyborg was sleeping with his mouth open which made Robin and Starfire laugh.
“I think they were having too much fun before”, Robin jokingly added. “Are you, Robin? Are you enjoying this night?”, the alien princess asked, turning back his attention to the Boy Wonder. “I am, Star. I am enjoying this night with you”, as he said that she blushed. “Are you making those happy memories you wanted to make?”, Robin asked back. “I am. I wish to make many more happy memories with you”, she lowered her head, trying to hide her blushed cheeks. “We will, Star, there are many more adventures to come, many more battles to fight and places to go”. “Are there also many more dates to go on?”, she lifted her head up once again. Yes, she was blushing but at this point she didn’t mind showing him how he made her feel. “This is our first date”, he pointed out and now he was blushing too. “Not quite the first. You went to a date with Kitten and perhaps you could say I did the tagging along”, she giggled at the end of her sentence. “I guess you could say that. Do you think we make a better couple than Kitten and Fang?”. She laughed out loud. “We most surely do” and then she realized what he just asked her. “Robin?”, his eyes were looking at the sky at that moment, but he turned to her when she called for him, like he usually did. “Yes, Starfire?”. She repeated the question he made in her mind. He did say “couple”, did he? There was only one way to find out what he meant. “Robin are we a couple?”, she asked and he smiled. “Would you want- “, as he was about to finish asking her something that he had been wishing to for so long, a big bright light flew through the dark sky. It was her que.
She didn’t want to do it; she didn’t want to leave him. Not like this. Not after what he was about to ask her. But this was her duty. “Trouble!”, the leader immediately declared. “What was that?”, Robin stood up and so did she. The Tamaranean lifted herself, levitating by his side. “Robin, I have to go”. He was shocked and confused. “Why? Do you know what that was?”, she just shook her head. “It is nothing, believe me. Robin, I have to leave”, she spoke softly, closing her eyes at the end, but he grabbed her hand, trying to keep her from leaving him. “But, Star, we were- “, she pulled her hand out of his. She hugged herself and then she flew away.
What she didn’t notice is that when she left, something of hers fell into Robin’s hands. He picked up what looked like a piece of paper but when he came close to it, he noticed it was a picture of Gotham. He knew she had been curious about the city, but why did she have a picture of it? He turned back the post card just to find a handwritten note signed just X. Was it that same X? It couldn’t be.
Robin went inside the lodge and woke up the rest of the team. “What’s up, man? Isn’t it like 2am?”, Beast Boy tried to go back to sleep, but Raven pushed him away before he could put his head back on her shoulder. “What is it?”, Cyborg asked worriedly. “It’s Star. She’s gone”, the leader couldn’t hide the sadness in his voice. “Again?”, Raven moved so she could be sitting on the edge of the couch. “What do you mean she’s gone? She’s been taken?”, Cyborg tried again. Robin shook his head. “Something appeared on the sky and then she said she had to leave. When she did, this fell from her dress”, he gave the post card to Cyborg. Beast Boy and Raven got close to look at it. When Cyborg turned it around Beast Boy gasped. “Dude! My theory, Starfire and Red X, they are working together”, Raven pushed him back to his seat. “How can we be sure that this X means Red X?”, Raven asked. She was angry, she wouldn’t believe that Starfire was working with Red X, that she would be capable of stealing the T-Ship. “Yeah, man, what if it’s just a note from someone else or fan mail”, Robin sighed. “This note is from someone who knows her. At least that’s what I can tell from the message. And the X, well... I am not sure. It could be him; it could be someone else or it could be...”, he shook his head again. “Who else could it be?”, Beast Boy insisted, and Robin backed away to the door. “There’s only one way to find out”, the team followed him. Raven took Cyborg and Beast Boy shifted into a pterodactyl to help Robin fly back to the Tower.
Starfire made a quick stop at the Tower. She flew as fast as she could and took the communicator Slade gave her out of the backpack. She waited for a minute, then he called. “Children, I am on Earth. We have landed on a deserted area out of Jump City. But we need something from the museum. Red X, I need you to go get everyone out of there. Starfire, I need you to be Red S again, you have to get in through the secret door in the basement. It’s activated through a button that’s under the replica of the Gordanian ship. There you must find a red diamond. I need it to lure your sister to a trap. Get it out of there and meet me at the lodge. And Starfire. Don’t let your friends stop you. We are close to getting Tamaran and Earth to safety. Are we clear?”, Starfire struggled to answer. “Yes, Slade, we are clear”. She slowly nodded. “Good. Then go do as I told you”, he ended the call. “Star?”, Red X called her name softly. “Are you sure of this?”, she sighed. “I have to do this. It’s my duty to protect Tamaran as the princess of my planet and as a hero, I have to save Earth from my sister. I shall see you there”, she closed the communicator.
She took Red S’s uniform out of the backpack and put it on. The reflection on the mirror showed her something she wasn’t ready to see. This suit, it’s darkness, as much as she wanted to believe otherwise, it suited her well. She touched the cape and hid behind it. It was just like Robin’s, as strong as his cape but it meant something else.
The princess clipped the communicator to the belt on her suit. She looked through the window, a flashing light coming from just outside the city caught her attention. How much could Slade keep her sister from hurting her new home? She had to go. Starfire clocked herself with the utility belt and flew out of the Tower.
The Titans entered the tower just moments after Starfire left. Robin ran to her room; the team came after him. He entered the bedroom and noticed she wasn’t there, but she had left her things on the floor.
“Someone broke into the Tower before we arrived, I checked the security system and it was deactivated just like the other night” Cyborg was the first to arrive after Robin. The leader kneeled next to the pink backpack Starfire had left behind. It had the same tag the dress did. He lifted it up and checked inside. He found her uniform there and a picture of Blackfire wearing the same headpiece Starfire had when she came to Earth. Beast Boy and Raven came into the room. “Where’s Star?”, Cyborg noticed the worried look on Robin’s face. “What is that?”, Raven took the picture to check it. “I thought Blackfire was in some alien jail”, Beast Boy joined the empath. “And why would Star leave her uniform?”, Cyborg asked. “Maybe she left it because she got a new one”, the shape shifter replied, his voice falling into a soft whisper at the end. Their communicators alerted them of trouble. Robin opened it up immediately, wishing Starfire was the one calling but she wasn’t. “Titans, trouble! The History Museum is under attack”.
Starfire got to the museum just after Red X, he was already trying to take down the guards to kick them out of the building. She joined him as he ran to the security room. “What are you doing here? You have to go to the basement!”, he yelled at her as she ran by his side. “I cannot do it”, she whispered. “What?”, he entered the room and closed the door behind them. “I am not quite sure how to use the suit and I did not get to do the checking of the cameras properly”, she let her head down. Red X was disabling the cameras using a virus he stole from Cyborg’s room as they spoke. “Look, Star, you have to try to do it. It’s not like I can pass you all I know in a second”, he shrugged. He disabled the lights and they were only illuminated by the emergency power that was on the hallway outside of the security room. “This will buy us some time at least”, he turned around and he found her closer to him. “There might be a way for you to pass me all you know. I do not know if it will work as I have only used it to learn a language, which is the intent of this process. But, it may be successful in transferring other knowledge”, she uncovered her mouth. “What language? What are you talking about?”. They heard steps coming their way. She lifted his mask just enough for his lips to be uncovered too and then she did it. She kissed him. He froze when he felt her warm lips on hers. His mind went blank. On the other side, Starfire’s was very busy full of misleading thoughts. There was something that made her want to get closer to Jason. The mystery that surrounded his identity, his hometown, why he became Red X. Everything about it had a different taste, like his lips did too. It tasted like danger and somehow she found out she had been craving to feel that flavor.
The Titans slowed down when they heard muted whispers coming from a room. They could barely see as they got further away from the emergency light on the corridor. The whispers came from an office with a glass window. Robin carefully got closer to the window and saw two dark silhouettes. The team joined the leader. They all noticed what was happening. “I told you she was his girlfriend”, Beast Boy pointed out. “Well, if she’s not Star, then who is she?”, Cyborg added.
Starfire stepped back and covered her mouth again. Jason shook his head. “Starfire what did you just do?”, he asked in a whisper as he covered his face too. Before she could say anything, Robin kicked the door open. The dark uniformed teens looked at each other. “Sorry to interrupt your date”, the leader announced. “Oh, I am the one who’s sorry”, Red X threw a gas bomb to escape through the glass window with Starfire by his side. They both teletransported back to the main hall, were the skeleton was.
The guards ran to meet the pair. They were an easy target for them, the pair threw X shaped gas bombs, blades and explosives. X even pinned a couple of them and stole one of their laser guns to point at the Titans. “So, can you tell me what was that?”, X asked as he took out one of Cyborg’s laser devices, that he stole while the Titans were at the lodge, and he quickly added it to the gun. She opened her mouth to explain why she kissed him but she froze at the sight of her teammates standing in front of them. They were in their regular formation. Robin was first, Cyborg by his side, Beast Boy was next and then Raven was levitating ready to use her powers. She was the only one left out of the team. “Teen Titans go!”, Robin yelled, and the team came to fight them.
X shot Robin with the gun making him fall to the ground. “Robin”, Starfire mumbled under her breathe, nobody heard her. “Hey, are you angry because we crashed your day night?”, BB yelled as he ran to Red X. The thief freed his right hand to threw an X into BB’s mouth as he shape shifted into a hippo. The green hero tried to take it out, but he couldn’t. Starfire was frozen, she didn’t know what to do. Raven came for her and she only avoided her using the clocking technology on the suit. Red X jumped on top of Cyborg and stuck an X on his face to cover his eyes before he could unload his sonic cannon so when he did it hit Raven and it made her fall. Robin stood up again and threw a birdarang that hit X on the shoulder, cutting his suit and his skin just enough for him to let out an “Ouch!, I knew you had it in you bird boy”, he joked as he ran to fight the Boy Wonder. The fight between Jason and Dick caught Star’s attention. Raven saw this and she pushed her away using her telekinetic powers. Starfire fell to the floor. Red X noticed, and he immediately stopped Robin throwing him an explosive X to make him fall to the other side, then he picked up the gun he used before to shoot Raven and move her away from Starfire. X ran to the alien princess, she looked up at him. “Sorry to interrupt again”, the Titan’s leader threw another birdarang at Red X cutting his other arm. Starfire gasped. “Hey! You are scaring my…friend”, he laughed at the insinuation. Robin ran to him and they started fighting again. Starfire stood up and pulled out one of the explosives packed in her utility belt. “Hey, cutie, I got this”. Cutie? Robin had heard him said that word in front of him before. “Mind getting what we need?” She backed away slowly, still not moving to the basement.
Robin pulled out his BoStaff and Red X clocked himself to avoid getting hit. He then appeared from the back of the masked hero and took the BoStaff away from him. Then he pushed Robin to the side with it. “You should have packed one of this on this suit”, he pointed out. Robin got back up and this time he threw himself at Red X. This was going to take too long. What if Slade couldn’t keep her sister under control? Starfire had to do something. She closed her eyes and threw the explosive. X covered himself with the cape and so did she. All the Titans were on the floor. “So”, Red X let go of Robin’s BoStaff. “About that kiss…”. Beast Boy had finally freed himself, so he ran to Red X turned into a bull. He shoved the thief, but X immediately shot him back with the laser gun which hurt Beast Boy badly, he ended up unconscious on the floor and Raven levitated to help him. Starfire gasped once more, she walked to BB. “Guess we’ll talk later, S, time to go”, he pointed at the door that lead to the basement. Cyborg came at X, trying to punch him in the face but Red X avoided the hit again and again.
Starfire walked away, looking back at X worriedly but nobody could see her face behind the mask. Robin stood up and ran after Red S, taking his BoStaff with him. X noticed it again and kicked Cyborg in the stomach to make him back away. Then, he teleported himself to the hall that led to the stairs. X closed the basement door pushing the button on the side, which he noticed in his visit that afternoon. He then sealed the doors using the laser on his glove. Jason ran through the stairs and found Robin meters away from him. He took out his grapple and caught Robin’s arm, pulling him back to himself. “Going somewhere?”, he asked. Robin took out a birdarang and used it to cut the rope and jump away from him. “After her”, the Titan’s leader responded. “You always do that, don’t you?”, Red X followed him as they both went into the basement.
Starfire was already in front of the alien exhibition. She carefully lifted the replica of the Gordanian ship up and waited to see if anything happened. It did. Red lasers appeared in the rest of the room, the kind that you would see in a spy movie, she thought. She pushed the button on the base where the replica was. A secret door opened in the middle of the wall in front of her.
“Freeze!”, Robin yelled at her and she did. “You don’t have to do this. Whatever Red X is promising you, he can’t be trusted”, her best fried continued. Starfire turned around. “I won’t hurt you”, he would never hurt her if he knew who she was. “I can help you”, Robin extended his hand through one of the holes in between the red lasers. “She doesn’t need your help”, Red X pushed Robin to the lasers and Starfire couldn’t help to gasp. She covered her mouth. Robin groaned in pain, he laid there face down. The Boy Wonder slowly stood up and then he moved through the spaces in between the lasers to get to Starfire. “Fuck, quit it, Robin!”, Red X snapped. “Never”, the Titan kept going and Starfire just backed away into the secret room.
Red X used his other grabble to pull Robin through the lasers and keep it in there, making him groan in pain again. “X, stop! You are not a bad guy”, Robin barely could speak but he did his best. “I can be that”, X replied. A loud noise made Red X lose his grip. The other Titans ran to the basement and attacked X. Robin quickly got back to trying to catch Red S.
Beast Boy pushed Red X into the lasers, putting him through the same pain he had put Robin through. “S! He’s coming!”, X yelled before giving up into the pain.
She heard him and clocked herself, she used her cape to cover herself and bent down, hiding behind the podium in which the diamond Slade wanted was displayed.
Red X threw explosives to the points were the lasers came out from. “Any other plan?”, he asked at the Titans. “Azarat-“, he cut Raven sticking an X to her mouth and two others on her hands to keep her from using her powers. Cyborg almost hit him with his sonic cannon, but X clocked himself and teleported himself to the back of the half robot to mess with his system. “Learned a trick from the creator”, he laughed as he did that to Cyborg. Beast Boy shifted into a tiger and scratched X on his chest. He groaned and jumped back. He then ran into the secret room and BB flew after him now shifting into an eagle. Before X could enter, Beast Boy shifted into a gorilla and caught him by his leg. X threw him some explosives to the face making him turn back to his human shape. Then he threw him one of his signature sticky Xs to pin the green hero to the floor. After he did that, he threw a gas bomb and tele transported to the secret room.
He appeared in the room and shut the door from the inside with a button next to the entrance, then he sealed it with his laser once again. Robin was searching for Red S using his flashlight. “Now, where were we?”, Red X asked in his regular playful tone. The Boy Wonder took out his BoStaff and ran to him. They fought for a while, pushing each other from wall to wall. Starfire stood up slowly to check on them. Neither of them was really looking at her.
She took out one her X shaped blades and used it to cut the glass that covered the jewel. She slowly took the round red diamond, hid it in her suit and backed away, looking around for an escape route. The kiss hadn’t really worked out and either way, none of them had entered that room so they had to improvise. Red X noticed that she had the diamond and tried to shove Robin off himself, but the Titan wouldn’t give up. So, he gave back what Robin did before. He used one of his blades to cut his arm and stopped him by putting his hand over the fresh wound. Robin yelled in pain. Starfire couldn’t help herself; she ran to the two and pulled Robin away from X throwing him to the floor behind her. Red X froze. This wasn’t on the plan; this wasn’t what Slade told her to do. Did she care that much for Robin?
Robin tried to sit down and when he did, he noticed something on Red S’s belt. It was a communicator with an S on top and he knew what that S meant. “S, we have to go!”, X yelled at her. The Boy Wonder immediately stood up and threw a birdarang to Red X, then he threw three ammunition disks. Red X got hit and backed away. Then Robin pulled Red S to the side to get to X. He used his BoStaff to push it into X’s abdomen, then he kicked him on his leg to make him lose balance and finally punched him in the face when he fell to the floor. Starfire was frozen now. She didn’t know what to do. She couldn’t stop Robin; she couldn’t hurt him. But Jason was getting hurt.
The alien princess moved her hand and put it on top of her belt, she grabbed an X shaped blade. Her hands were shaking. Red X groaned in pain as Robin hit him on the stomach. “S, go!”, X mumbled in pain. Starfire lifted her hand aiming at Robin. The masked hero put his feet on X’s chest, keeping him down then he ripped his utility belt and threw it to the front, where Red S stood frozen. Red X stayed on the floor.
“I know you are working for Slade. Tell me where he is and I will let you both go!”, Robin walked to Red S. She stepped back letting the blade fall to the ground. “I know you are scared. You don’t have to be. I will help you… If you tell me where Slade is and what he wants”. She shook her head as she backed further away from him.
“Leave her alone! Robin!”, X mumbled, too hurt to even speak like he normally did. Robin didn’t answer. He kept coming closer to Red S. “S! Remember!”, she sighed at Jason’s words. He was right. Slade told them that they couldn’t let the Titans stop them. Now, how did she use the suit for this kind of fight? To fight Robin?
She moved her hand back to the utility belt; they were still shaking. “I created that thing, you can’t stop me with that”, Robin pointed out. But she had to try, at least just to make him back away and buy X some time. She took out the first thing she touched; it was a grabble which Robin avoided. Then she threw out blades and he threw them away with his BoStaff. “Just tell me about Slade”, the Boy Wonder insisted. She threw explosives at him and he used his BoStaff to redirect them at Red X. She gasped, as X groaned in pain once more. Her back touched the wall. “Not talking, S?”, Robin asked. He pinned her to the wall using his BoStaff once more. She was still shaking.
“Let her go! Don’t hurt her!”, Jason yelled, trying to stand up. “Robin! Let her go!”. Robin pulled her utility belt out and threw it next to X’s. “If you want me to let her go, tell me what Slade wants and where I can find him”, the masked hero answered, not even turning back to look at X. “Please! Don’t”, Jason pleaded once more. So, he cared about S much more than he had imagined? He changed plans, he pushed his BoStaff and Starfire let out a muted whine. He couldn’t recognize her voice through it, but Red X tried to stand up once more. “Please, Robin. You’ll regret it”, X insisted. Robin pushed a little harder. “Stop!”, X yelled. The leader pushed just a little bit more and then she pushed him away, he immediately pinned her back to the wall harder, making her gasp once more. “Use your powers!”, X yelled, she shook her head. “Tell me where’s Slade!”, the Boy Wonder sounded furious as he pushed his BoStaff just a bit more. She let out a sigh. She was struggling but she tried kicking him and she noticed her strength wasn’t working like it normally did. “Just tell me!”, Robin insisted pushing a little harder. “Do it! Use your powers”, X tried once more but he couldn’t even stand on his own, he had to rest his body on the wall behind him. She whined again. He pushed, she struggled, he pushed, she struggled, he pushed, she struggled. “Stop! Robin”. Red S let her head fall, she was struggling to breath and she was feeling lightheaded. “Robin! I promise you will regret it; she is…”, Starfire shook her head. “I have to tell him!”, Robin turned to look at him. “What?”, she shook her head. “Robin, she is- “, Starfire pushed Robin with her last bit of strength. He pinned her right back to the wall. “What do you know?”, Robin yelled at her. Red X finally stood up and ran weakly to the two.
Starfire was almost falling down. Her powers were lacking because of the emotional stress and her endurance was significantly affected by it. She was about to pass out when Red X came in. He unmasked her. “She is Starfire!”.
A/N: Things are getting crazier in this story. We have at least 4 more chapters to go before we wrap this up. So, get ready for more angst because this chapter is just the tip of what is about to come.
Chapter 7 spoiler: I was listening to Hit Me With Your Best Shot by ADONA while writing the first scene which is the continuation of the ending of EP 6.

BatCat babysitting little Mar'i and/or Jake Grayson?
 BatCat | DickKory | Plotless unashamed fluff | 1,8k | Read on AO3
“Hi, B!” Greeted Dick opening the door of his condo.
Bruce gave him his small barely there smile in answer to Dick’s huge all white teeth one.
“Hello, chum.”
Dick then turned to Bruce’s companion.
“And how are you, beautiful?”
Selina raised her gloved hands to Dick’s face, pulling him for a loud kiss full on the lips, to which he made crunched his entire face blushing horrendously to her delight.
“I’m wonderful, darling. So glad to see you. He’s so handsome, Bruce, look at him.”
“I’m looking.” Agreed Bruce with a glint of amusement in his eyes.
“Where’s the little kitten? And that gorgeous wife of yours?”
“They are in the nursery” Selina took her woollen coat off and handed wordlessly to Bruce, walking across Dick following his instruction, Bruce moved inside too, starting to undress from his heavy overcoat as well, but was interrupted, buy Dick’s arms hugging from the middle, he patted the younger man awkwardly on the head. “Thank you for coming.”
Bruce just grunted. Dick, freed his emotionally stunted dad and closed the door.
“Where…?” Asked Bruce holding the clothing.
“Oh, the coat hanger fell under the weight of Kory’s collection of handbags and I haven’t put the new on the wall, just throw your coats… Anywhere.”
Bruce raised an eyebrow to that noticing the apartment around him. Dick had never been an organized child, he had impeccable work ethics but his living grounds had always being a reason for arguments when he was growing up, and adding a baby in it… Well, he knew now why Dick invite Alfred to babysit yet. It was not a complete chaos, but it was far from acceptable by the butler’s standards.
“Come! We wanted you guys to see her while she was awake, but she woke up this morning super early for no reason, she was so full of energy, flying everywhere I think she crashed now.” He laughed.
“Flying?”
“Oh! I didn’t tell you?”
But they had reached the nursery door.
Kory was sitting on a very comfortable velvet chair, Alfred’s present. The baby on her arms had a darker shade of golden skin than her mother’s, and her long black eyelashes making shadows under her closed eyes and she suckled on her mother’s breast. Her little plump hand was holding firmly to Selina’s finger.
“Bruce, look how big she is…” Said Selina whispering.
“Greetings.” Koriand’r smiled to Bruce.
He nodded his head to her, approaching the women.
Bruce leaned in and with the back of two fingers, brushed softly the dark locks of the baby’s hair.
Selina turned her gaze from the baby to her husband, to others maybe he looked stoic as always, but by the way his Adam’s apple bobbed she could see the huge emotional response. She rubbed his bicep with her free hand.
“Isn’t she gorgeous?”
Bruce cleaned his throat.
“Yes.” He answered, his voice croaky and deeper than the usual.
Selina and Kory exchanged an amused look.
“Do you want to hold her?” Asked Kory.
“Aren’t you feeding her now?”
“Oh no, she is done.” Smiled Kory. “She is already asleep.”
“I don’t want to disturb her.”
“She sleeps heavily. No need to worry.” Kory pulled her nipple from the baby’s mouth and covered herself, floated so she was in level with Bruce, and gently put the baby in his arms. Her daughter looking so little next to her massive grandfather.
Mar’i cooed softly getting comfortable but did not wake.
Dick sniffled loudly and the eyes turned to him.
“I’m sorry guys, I just-” he choked; Kory and Selina hugged him by each of his sides. Kory giggled. “Don’t laugh at my expense, Kory, not cool.” She kept giggling but tried to muffle it by kissing his hair. “I still can hear it!”
“I’m going to get ready.” Announced Kory untangling herself from the double hug and turning to her parents-in-law. “Please let yourselves feel at home, and thank you so much for doing this for us.”
“You’re welcome darling.” Said Selina as they watched Kory float out of the room.
“She’s still flying.” Noticed Bruce. When Kory hit the fourth trimester – turns out half-tamaranean pregnancies were a lot longer than human ones – her feet were so swollen that she just flied everywhere. After Dick commented on that Bruce started sending soft tall pillows so, she could put her feet up, compression stockings which somehow were the exactly shade of Kory’s alien skin, and one time Dick arrived home to find a whole spa and masseuse staff that he had not booked.
“Oh, she’s not in pain anymore… She’s just happy. Can’t keep her feet on the ground. My neck is cramping from looking up so much.” But by his thrilled tone he didn’t seen annoyed by his balloon wife at all.
“Where are you taking her, honey?” Asked Selina still hugging Dick and making little circles in his back.
“Nothing very fancy. We mostly just want to have an uninterrupted meal, then walk by Byke Beach a little before coming home to save you guys. And as Kory said, thank you so much, Mar’i a sweet baby and she was all we had to worry about it would be easy peasy, but things pile up and we could use a breather.”
“It’s our pleasure, darling. Bruce and I needed a break too, and you father have missed you so much, you should see him showing the pictures you sent us to everyone, he is so proud.”
“Is that true, B?” Asked Dick beaming.
Bruce cleaned his throat loudly and then looked down to the baby terrified he had disturbed her, but she didn’t even fuss. When he looked up again Selina and Dick were looking at him with glazed eyes.
He cleaned his throat again, this time in a softer tone.
“I can’t stop looking at her, Bruce, she’s so cute.” Said Selina perched on Mar’i crib. Dick and Kory were gone, and with the baby sleeping, Selina found out that there wasn’t actually a lot to do.
“Let the baby sleep, Selina.” Mumbled Bruce typing something on his phone, he had extracted Selina five times from the nursery in the forty minutes Dick and Kory were gone.
“What are you doing?”
Selina clenched her eyes, Bruce looked away, guilty as hell and pocketed the phone.
“You were working on your phone wasn’t you?”
“No.”
“Oh my god, Bruce!”
“I wasn’t. Look.” He showed her his phone. “Tim sent me a photo of a frog in a skateboard.”
Selina’s face was completely voided of emotion for a fraction of a second before she let out a loud laugh… That was followed by baby cries.
“Shit.”
The baby was not stopping crying. Bruce thought that she would recognise them from all the facetime calls, he was wrong. Mar’i knew that he and Selina were not her parents, and she was not happy about it.
“Is she is pain? Do you think she is in pain?”
“I don’t think so. Dick said she was in perfect health, but it’s hard to know without proper medical equipment.”
“Try feeding her again.”
Bruce took the warmed milk bottle – noticing the colour was darker than regular human milk supposed to be, it looked like light caramel. He made a mental note to take a sample to look to it in his lad later – and offered to the baby girl, but she slapped the bottle away with a strength no human six months old would have. No adult either. The bottle flew across the room and broke into the drywall.
“I’ll pay for that.”
“How don’t you know how to make a baby stop crying? You are a huge nerd, you know everything! Didn’t you raise like fifty-two kids or something?”
“They were never that young.” And to be fair, when they cried, he mostly handed them to Alfred and later Dick.
“We should call Dick.”
“No.”
“What?”
“We are solving this, Selina.”
“How?!”
Bruce took a deep breath and tried to remember everything he knew about pre-language children. He read some articles to try to communicate with Cassandra years ago, mostly applied to babies and was not useful to him at the time, but maybe it would be useful now. He recalled something about tonic dialogue, that meant the first form of communication was from touch. Basically, holding a baby while having a tense body was not good, because the baby could feel the discomfort and respond to this with distress. So, he tried to relax. Lower his heartrate. Mar’i didn’t stop crying, but her loud screaming and the fussing were gone.
“Good! Good! I don’t know what you did but it’s working.”
“Try to distract her.”
“By doing what?”
“I don’t know Selina, why do I have to know everything?”
“You are the Batman!”
“Not now, I’m not.”
“Ba mum” mumbled Mar’i between cried.
Bruce and Selina exchanged a shocked look.
“Yes, kitten. Granddaddy is Batman.”
“Ba mum!” The baby said angrily, her bluish green eyes flooded with tears.
Selina sent Bruce a terrified look. He just shook his head, also having no idea. Mar’i’s lip trembled and the crying returned with revenge.
“Hold her a little.”
“Me?!”
But before she could protest further, the baby was already in her arms, bright orange, sobbing against her shirt spreading snot and tears everywhere.
Bruce was calling someone.
“But you said you were not calling her parents!”
“I’m not. Alfred, finally, I have a predicament.”
He was silent for a while, his face rumpled in concentration, then he turned off with a “thank you”.
“What did he say?”
“Mar’i has a favourite toy. It’s a handmade Batman doll made by Damian. That’s what she mean by ‘Ba mum’.”
“I want to gush about how cute this whose sentence was but she is pulling my hair pretty hard, and I’m grieving my shirt, this was Prada’s limited edition. Let’s find that doll.”
Half an hour later and no sign of the doll, Bruce was going mad, Selina’s head was aching, and Mar’i proved that her human-tamaranean hybrid lungs were very efficient. They fell heavily on the living room’s sofa.
“Bruce… What do we do?”
He just gave her a defeated look.
“Ba mum! Ba mum! BA MUM!”
“Oh kitten, I don’t know where your ‘Ba mum’ went.” Said Selina drying the baby’s tears then her head shot up. “I have an idea.”
“I’m willing to try anything.”
“You brought a suit, didn’t you?”
Bruce pretended not to know what she was talking about.
“I’ve brought changes of clothing, yes.”
“You know what I mean.”
“Selina…”
“So what we can’t find her doll? You are the real deal!” She said exasperated.
“That’s not what my suit if for, Selina.”
“I couldn’t care less what your suit is for” she covered the baby’s ears “we had sex plenty of times while you were in that suit don’t pretend you never abused its function before.”
He sighed.
Two hours after Kory and Dick returned home to find Selina sleeping sitting on the sofa, Bruce in his full Batman gear also sleeping, but lying on his back and using Selina’s lap as a pillow, and Mar’i belly down on her grandfather’s chest, drool all over the bat insignia.

Tonic dialogue is a real thing I learnt on uni. I have no idea what the frog in a skateboard was about, I just like the idea of Bruce’s kids sending him random memes and funny pictures.

❤I want to request the reader is apart of the royal army on Tameran and while in a battle she falls from space and she meets the boys and Kori. Jason and the reader fall in love, ya know, but they dont admit it because they are both stubborn babies. Kori gets news that Tameran is getting into another battle and before she admits her feelings to Jason she leaves. Years later Kori and the reader return and feeling are shared between Jason and reader. Lots of angst/fluff (love your work btw😘)
Summary: Explained in the ask itself……… Thought I took a small liberty. ¡ENJOY!
Word Count: 3574
TW: Fluff and angst. In that order. I choked up a bit in A CERTAIN PART.
People that asked to be tagged: @sarcasmismyfirstlove, @dora-the-grownup
A/N: Sorry that I took so long to write this thingy. I loved writing it and I love asks, but my mind is not in the right place, and hasn’t been due to the situation these last days. I have a bit of uni work still on my back and that has been stopping me from writing, but your comments and asks always lift me up, I swear!!! You are all so precious. I hope your lockdown is going better than mine and that your loves ones and you are all safe and healthy.
A chance —  Jason Todd x Reader
Some would say it’s a coincidence, but Tamaraneans don’t believe in these. Specially not at war, specially not in battle. Tamaran is at war, an ongoing civil war instigated by its own inhabitants against King Myand’r due to his own decision of enslaving her precious daughter, Koriand’r – Komand’r, Kori’s elder sister, is still leading the battle, wishing to take the throne. But they resist, they will hold long enough until they manage to arrange something. Koriand’r doesn’t have it too bad herself, she thinks to herself, sprawled on hot sun, next to a very very hot body. She slaps, jokingly, perhaps too harshly, Roy’s chest. It is slightly burnt, and that might be why he reacts the way he does, howling and feigning death. Kori doesn’t still get human humor, but she has time.
She’s experimented with humans, has had her fair share of friends and lovers – amongst which Dick Grayson, Jason’s older brother, still remains, they think. Truth is sometimes she can’t even remember the tone of his voice, his pitch or his laugh. Some would say it’s sad, but it’s just not useful. Tamaraneans can be emotional, but they are warriors at their core. It won’t change, no matter how much sun the humans insist on taking, or how much time they insist on spending to rest after eating before entering the sea. She couldn’t care less, truthfully, but she likes to play by the rules.
It never was (Y/N)’s forte, really. Maybe that’s why in her attempt of escaping, she changed routes to a place they never thought of following her into. After all, Earth was where the banished seemed to go. Who would think that such a prideful and honored warrior would end up there?
She crashes into it harshly, though; there’s no elegance in her movements, or her landing when she falls into the water, to apparently never surge ever again. Koriand’r feels it under her skin even before she sees her, which she is not able to due to the speed which she falls into: Roy is paralyzed, and so is Jason, who was holding two drinks before stopping dead on his tracks at seeing the scene in front of him. The redhead and him are the first to react. She is out of the water in less than five minutes.
***
She is beautiful and hot. Like, literally – she is burning as Jason checks her temperature for third time in a row. Kori instructed that no one should touch her as Tamaraneans possessed abilities tightly tied with the sun. It basically meant the more she received, the more chances there were that she would regain consciousness. It had been a while, but there was a feeling of restlessness in Jason’s chest since he had laid eyes on her. Maybe it was her deceiving beauty, softness (she was muscles and tough skin, there was no need of touching her to prove that up); or the waves of her still humid hair, her glistening lips. He knew it was lust, maybe more if not as much as he had felt when he had seen Kori for the first time. She was a unique beauty, with something different which had nothing to do with the physical: dreams died under her eyelids, restlessness in her fingers, which sometimes trembled. She had not muttered a thing, and yet Jason was entirely charmed by her. He didn’t quite believe in those things, but there was something that he would name as “aura” or “vibe” that he felt up from her. She oozed it, and Jason could not get his eyes off from her, which is maybe why he had offered to take Roy’s turn to watch her as well. Koriand’r was impressed to say the least, not expecting this from him at all. Maybe Roy. Not that they had anything serious going on, of course.
“Myan…”. She mumbles, for first time; her voice is soft, dry. Jason shouts Kori’s name and asks for water as he gets closer to the bed the moment he sees her try to get up on her own. “No, no-“
She almost evades his touch, wiggling out of it tiredly, but can’t, in the end. Jason admires her strength, her fluttering eyes that reveal a very intense color (typical of Tamareans, perphaps? Kori possess a similar one), and her furrowed brow, like a pouty kid which makes him laugh. She has to rest for some days, but in the third one, she is out of the bed and crouching on the sand.
It takes him by surprise, carrying a small and humble breakfast as he was, to actually see her out of bed in big clothes and kissing Roy. He can only deduce it has been sudden, since his friend’s hands are paralyzed, hovering over her waist like still seeing where to land. The kiss deepens and only then he grasps her waist, which immediately seems to stop the motion. She squirms, almost pushes him to the sand, taking both by surprise. Is she not used to people caring, touching, or is she just sensitive there? By her slight blush and her bright eyes he can deduce it’s the later as he gets closer and helps his friend get up, as lowkey moody as he feels. What the hell? There is an explanation that doesn’t come until Kori is present and puts them up to date. “A way of learning”, she explains, to which she giggles when he sees Roy’s reaction, confused and mouth gaping. By the way he looks at her when they are having dinner on the beach, he can see he feels something for her. Good for him. That’s great.
***
He should be having a nice time, relaxing and gaining back strength from the last missions they had been involved in in their little exotic heaven, but he doesn’t. It bothers him more than he would admit that Roy seems to enjoy way too much her attention, which she returns, in small quantities. That, to Jason’s own disgust, pleases him – he should not be happy for his friend being rejected, but in a way Jason has been caring more for her. He did not expect something out of gratitude, nothing of the sort, but he thought she would notice.
And well, she does in the end.
They start slowly, with small thanks for breakfast, wandering on the beach, sometimes reading in silence when the sun is down, and the sky is purple. It bathes her darkened skin and she is gorgeous, but more than that, is getting to know her. She is so curious, so inquisitive about the little things and full of life. At times she seems to be on edge, specially with loud sounds, but she slowly gets used to them; Jason, from what Kori has told them, supposes that’s what war does to people. She has scars on her back, her thighs; her skin is hardened, proud badges of honor that she shows off with the little and short clothes she shares with Kori. They both have similar physiques, if anything she is slightly smaller, but they both have curves where they are supposed to, and are full of sharp edges, toned muscles and lean figures. Anyone would envy them.
           “… I know.”
“Well then start acting out like it. Your people need you, I need you.” She pleads. Jason has never heard her plead, not even when they had a water fight with Roy, which ended up with Kori up his shoulders and (Y/N) up Roy’s. “You have been out too long, and as much as I start to get Earth’s charm-“
“You understand? How so? Roy Harper? Jason Todd?”. Kori insinuates, making his own heart skip a beat, almost as if she knew he was listening, fruit on his hand, having stopped midtrack from paying (Y/N) a night visit, maybe after going for a walk in the beach.
“Koriand’r, we have been holding out for too long. We need you back, I need you back. If that’s not enough, then I don’t know what I’m doing here. I should return home, I have a duty.”
It feels like he’s going against time from that onwards. Roy and her seem to have “a night”, some hours out in the sand where they sit close to each other but without a touch between. Jason wonders what it is, as he observes them both from the balcony of their home, maybe trying to read lips – but they are in silence, content sighs leaving her mouth as they stare at the infinite ocean. They look further than they really are, and Jason cannot help but think they are wasting time. He is wasting time.
He decides to kidnap her. It’s childish, quick and exhilarating in a sense – stealing her from his friend as they get lost in the fauna, giggling and hand in hand running. She is quick on her feet and had gotten up with ability, used to it almost, before running after him, Jason leading until they were deep into the nature of the island. They’ve never explored that area before, and they have been stupid. Too stupid.
“There might be a hot source underneath this. It’s not dangerous, I promise”. He explains, slowly pulling her into the small lagoon they’ve encountered. It’s warm inside, not hot, but definitively a change from the water. She seems reluctant to enter. “Please? I… I heard you back there. With Kori.”
That takes her by surprise, and she slowly concedes. They both get into the small lagoon, cascade not too far from where they are – still they manage to hear each other without shouting. The water covers both of them more or less to their hips. It’s stupid how incredibly gorgeous she is. He can’t stop staring, and he shouldn’t be that obvious. Jason has had her fair share of lovers, women mostly, and even if he knows this kind of things can work with some, she is Tamarean. Is it rude to stare?
“What did you hear?”. She inquires, moving through the water, slowly the water rising as she gets deeper onto the water. She is grabbing Jason hand, taking him with her.
“I just know you plan on going soon. You have an on-going war and you want Kori going home with you. She explained her situation to us. The bare minimum”. She doesn’t look at him as he talks, which makes him nervous. He has never been nervous around women, but there’s something on (Y/N) that makes him squirm at times. “I think you should do what you feel like doing.”
“That’s very easy to say. But I’m not like that, I’m-“. She seems to falter, not be sure of what she wants to say. She frowns, almost annoyed at herself. “I’m bound by duty. Everyone is. I can’t fail them too.”
“I would like you to stay”. He simply says, bold as ever. This time she does look at him – and her eyes are bright, full of emotion as Jason pulls her closer to his body. “I want you to stay here. With us.”
           >> And I know it’s too much to ask. I know you are bound by duty, and-I have had that. I was… Restricted, let’s say, by someone else a couple of years ago. Bound by my duty to a certain city, so I-I understand. I swear I do. But that did not make me happy, and I did not agree to how a certain someone handled things over. So I left, I met Roy, Kori, I joined a couple of groups and after I left again – and now, finally, I am happy. With you. You are – gorgeous in all senses. Don’t think just in the physical sense, please. Your inquisitive nature is fascinating to me, and the way you listen with your eyes when you look at me. You make me feel seen, heard and it has been really a long time since I’ve felt like that. I adore the scrunch of your nose when you don’t get something, and your playfulness. I see you too, (Y/N) – and the way you fight with us is dirty, is sassy. It says a lot about your character, and sincerely I love that. Your attitude, your morals, the way you are bound tom something else you firmly believe in, your freedom… I know it’s asking too much but stay. Please.
There’s silence, but her eyes are filled with sorrow. She lets go of his hand and has to physically hug herself, both arms across her chest, as if to not fall into pieces. She feels like that too – for the first time heard, listened by someone else and not because of her military expertise, but because of who she is. Jason Todd, the strange human known as “Red”, has deliberately tried to get to know her better, get her involved in human customs and shared a couple of things with her without expecting anything in return. He has cared for her in a way that few people have done.
“Jason-“. And he knows, once she turns around and looks at him, eyes full of hurt and angst. Jason hurries to her side, embracing her fully for first time and she sighs, almost desperately. She won’t cry, she tells herself, she commands to her own body as his warm body envelopes her in a way that no one has ever done. That hug is enough to break her in every little possible way.
The horror, the hurt she has been carrying, Jason Todd can make it go away, even for a brief time. There was a dark time where she thought of herself as nothing more than a machine, a war one with the ultimate purpose of resisting… Which by no means feels like living. It’s barely scratching the surface. Jason Todd makes her feel alive, like she has finally taken the desperate breath of hair her lungs were aching for. Jason gives her the hope that there is something more besides war, the horror and trauma that comes with it; makes her feel like there’s something to come “home” to.
But she won’t, she can’t. What if she breaks him? Tamaraneans love, when they do, for life. Losing their long-life partner can be fatal, and people can’t die because of heartbreak, but for their people, it weakens them, incredibly so. What if humans are the same? They are incredibly fragile in some aspects, and even if she knows that Jason Todd is an exception (from what he has let her know), she doesn’t want to think on what it would mean if she were to promise him something she won’t be able to accomplish.
“Don’t say anything”. He mumbles into her hair, maybe knowing her answer. She grips him harder and doesn’t let go.
***
She leaves the next morning. They have slept on her bed, have embrace each other tightly, still wet and cold – but there’s only warmth between their tangled bodies as he gets woken by her movements, as silent as he is sure she has tried to be.
(Y/N) is not wearing her typical outfits, but rather an armor – it’s like silver, shiny and very resistant. It covers her most essential and dangerous zones, while still giving her some flexibility. Jason thinks he has never seen female strength so well represented.
But this is not a show-off, not a runway try-out – Kori appears soon after, wearing a similar armor, slightly more jeweled, and signals her out. (Y/N), almost obediently, follows. But before leaving the room, leaving him behind, she grabs the frame, almost as if afraid to leave the room, her fingers slightly trembling. Is she scared? He hears her take a deep breath and go.
Jason takes exactly five seconds to decide before he jumps off his balcony. The height is not crazy, but enough to make Kori shriek, as she sees him first, which makes (Y/N) immediately turn around. She grabs him, as their bodies almost clash and clench to each other, desperately. They feel like the last two people on Earth.
           “Please, try to come back.”
“I will. I will try, I promise”. She nods, glassy eyes and nodding fervently.
She commanded her body to not cry, but she has never been too good at following orders to start with.
***
The conflict takes five years. Neither of them are allowed to write, or return briefly home. Koriand’r acts as commander, and (Y/N) is her second. Every thought they have is fixed on war and coming home – to different ones, apparently.
In the five years they’ve fought, Jason Todd travels with Roy – he is still a mercenary, thank you very much, but becomes somewhat legal. They move here and there, and they never stay too long at any particular place – but they always have their holidays at the small island where they met her. They stay for a month in summer, longer than they’ve been at any place, just in the small hope she will come home someday, sometime. His anxiousness grows worse as years pass and doesn’t hear anything from either. Jason and Roy care deeply about Kori, but he can’t help but feel a bit empty without (Y/N). He hasn’t tried with anyone else, because no one else can catch his attention like she did. Maybe if he tried harder, he would, but he has no interest.
He is fine on his own too. He has been like that for a long time.
***
Kori appears first. Tired, fallen from the sky like a light bolt, it’s impossible to miss her. She cries when she embraces them both, perhaps too tired, too hurt from what she has seen and suffered from. They hug her tightly, but Jason quickly tries to ask about her, with her eyes. And she negates, sadly, before crying more into his shoulder.
“I tried, but I couldn’t. She said it was the only way, and I trusted her. But then she blew up the place and… I didn’t know she stayed behind. I’m-I’m so sorry.” Jason hugs her tightly, his chin on her shoulder. He has been shot to the heart, and he can’t stop the tears that fall from his eyes.
***
           “Jason, dearest:
I don’t have much time – I never have, honestly. I wished I could have found a better time to write you. At the start of the conflict, so you could know I didn’t die in the first weeks, like many did. Or that I was still alive – hurt but breathing, as I have been in these last few days. Instead, I am forced to write you in my probably last minutes on the universe. My people are worth fighting and dying for, Jason. I hope you will in time forgive me. I wish we could have met under different circumstances, that we could have lived on that small and precious island forever, frozen in time and covered in annoying sand days and nights to no end. I wish I could have met you sooner, on another timeline or alternative universe where I was not forced to make this decision, but it isn’t possible. Not in this life. Not here. You made me feel seen, and you reminded me that this war if worth fighting over so that my people will live, like I did when I was with you.
Every day with you was worth living. I do not regret meeting you, just not being more sincere, honest. Love is probably too much of a strong word for us, but I’ve never felt like I do with you right now. I probably never will. I’m sorry I couldn’t try harder, but there was no other way. I love you, Jason Todd from Earth.
           Always yours,
           (Y/N).
***
Jason feels frozen in time. He can’t feel, he is not sad – he knows he is, that something is empty, but he can’t feel that. Everything is numb. He reads and rereads the letter Kori gave him on her behalf every now and then, and he thinks he can hear her voice as he goes through it again and again, but when he looks up she is never there, and he is utterly lost. Roy helps, but Kori’s presence becomes somewhat bitter – he doesn’t blame her, but her absence helps, doing whatever she may be doing with all the free time she has now.
There are days when he doesn’t have the power to get out of bed, but the lightning bolt that crosses Gotham, almost breaks the sky, makes him peak out of his sheets. There’s a commotion, shouts, and a violet sphere protecting something in the middle of the street. Roy is in, with his uniform, as Jason jumps out of bed. Could it-?
He almost jumps out of the window, getting out from his safe house as quick as he can. Roy catches him up, mid-air, and lands them perfectly, Jason immediately pushing his way through the crowd until he gets there.
Kori is protectively hovering a battered and unconscious figure, in the ground – she is clearly hurt and shows sign of starvation and torture. She would be unrecognizable if it weren’t for her eyes, which slowly blink up and adjusting to the change of scenery.
It’s her. It’s her and that’s all that matters.
They have a chance. One more chance.

🌐 - The technological advancements (if there is any)
The tamaraneans do have a good amount of technology, and I would say that it is advanced, too - a lot of it is simply rather different to our things though. To name a few examples:
- There is nothing like smartphones or phones in general, with their flight they can easily reach someone physically in rather short time, and most of the tamaraneans prefer direct contact anyway; and as such no one ever bothered with trying to find measures for distance-talking. And, of course, a lot of tamaraneans are... loud, by nature. Shouting to cross a distance isn’t rare for them, at all.
- Due to their abilities and how certain materials react to their emotions in a rather similar way to their abilities, they never created motors in the way that we are having it. Pretty much any technology on Tamaran works by either putting in some energy or strength or flight already, or feeling the right emotions so that the material can react accordingly. They never tried if it react as well to other species’ emotions too or not, so whether or not that’s a thing they could actually ‘export’ is a whole different question. A very small amount of attempts with a few other species like humans seem to have worked, even if not as strongly, for some of their technology though.
- Due to the very common artistic-ness in their culture, using technology to make a picture (be it instantly or through developing a film or the likes) has always been a bit of a offending idea, or at the very least it has been taken as that it would talk down on their arts, and as such has also been never researched. Any pictures you find anywhere on Tamaran are either taken with technology not of their own, or painted/drawn in some form.
I think those are enough examples for now, though if you’d like more, let me know and I can think of adding something else - or you can specify what kind of technology in specific you wanna know about!
🥰- The ways to show love
I think I mentioned a part of this at least a little bit in other headcanon-posts before. As you probably know when being here, lip-contact doesn’t carry meaning for tamaraneans. And the same goes for ‘the act’ (I’m not gonna spell it out for you, this is how I’ll refer to it), and for deeper forms of kissing, and for probably many things that you consider a normal part of expressing/showing love. They simply dont get the same feelings from those things that humans do, and it just never felt like those things being much ‘good’ or ‘fun’, which led to it being taken simply as tools. For varying things (kissing for language assimilation, obviously, and I’m not gonna list anything else here for now), but still simply tools.
What serves much more as display or delivering of feelings, of love, to someone else, is the intimacy together - as in, opening up to one another, caring for the other when they’re not at their best, supporting the other when they’re just learning a thing or re-learning it or are simply not good at something, all these little gestures - and especially being together or more so even touching or otherwise being body-to-body or very close, when without armor. It’s a soft kind of almost-touch that is like the best display of feelings, when done so (and allowed by the other) during a moment without armor, a moment of ‘vulnerability’ basically.
Gifts are usually self-made when they are to mean more, often with a personal touch or meaning behind it.
I don’t really know what else to add here? Maybe I completely missed the actual topic of the question here, in which case I’m sorry and feel free to tell me what exactly I should’ve answered here instead.
