Bedtime? What Bedtime? A Sugar Mommies Drabble
Prompt: Reader/baby reacting to getting a bedtime after not resting enough in one of her exam periods.
Word Count: 908
Rating: General with fluffy scenes. SFW!
Dom!Natasha Romanoff, Dom!Wanda Maximoff, Dom! Carol Danvers x Sub!Reader
“A bedtime?” You say, eyes nearly bulging from your head. “What am I? 4?”
“The way you’re acting right now, yes, yes, you are.” Natasha replies.
“I am not going - no! No way! That’s ridiculous! Wanda, back me up here!”
The older woman just shakes her head and holds her hands up in a mock surrender.
“Normally I would, but this time I actually side with Carol and Natasha; baby girl.”
You glower at her. How could she?
“I am not having a bedtime.”
“How much sleep did you get last night, detka?” Natasha asks. You open your mouth to reply, a cocky response on the tip of your tongue, your inner brat riling up, ready to swing; but when the red head raises her perfectly sculpted eyebrow, your brat vanishes in a puff of pathetic smoke.
“I - why is that important?”
“Because your dom is asking you, that’s why.” She replies. “Now answer the question.”
“...I don’t see why I have to…”
“5.”
“What?” You stare at Wanda.
“4.
“What is she doing? Why is she counting?”
“3.”
“...Wanda…”
“2.”
“Answer Natasha’s question, Y/N. Your final warning before things get ugly.” Wanda says, her glare fixed just on you.
“I don’t know…I finally…I…crashed around 3…maybe 4am?”
“When did you wake up?” Wanda asks, stepping towards you. You automatically try to step back but Carol is there behind you, blocking your body from any chance of escape.
“7…”
“That had better be PM babygirl.” Carol whispers into your ear.
“A-AM…”
“So last night, you’re telling me, you slept for 3 hours?!” Natasha shouts, she really doesn’t mean to, but she knows for sure people at the local Starbucks heard her.
“Maybe? I mean…it was like a nap…”
“Not helping your case there, bunny.” Carol murumers.
“Yeah, I didn’t think that through.” You try to move from around Carol’s body but her grasp tightens around your wrists and she doesn’t let you budge.
“Oh no, sugar.” She smirks. “You’re not getting away that easily.”
“What are we going to do with you?” Natasha sighs.
“Oh I know perfectly well what to do with her,” Wanda glares at you, causing you to let out a pathetic sound and burrow into Carol.
“Save me and I’ll do your chores for a month, Danvers.”
The blonde cackles, momentarily letting you go, and you take your chance. Making a dive for freedom that is short lived. Carol snatches you back up and holds you in a hold so tight that no amount of wiggling will set you free.
“Nice try, baby, but you aren’t going to bribe me that easily. Now be good, accept your punishment like a good little brat.”
“But -”
“No buts, unless it’s yours.” Carol says.
Your grin slides off your face when you make eye contact with Wanda.
“Now, whilst we discuss your brand new and very permanent bedtime, you may go to your corner and kneel, and think about the apology letters that you will be writing to each of us.”
“Each?!”
“With no complaints.” Her tone is firm and you really have to fight the urge to roll your eyes at her. Instead, you just gape at all of them.
“I - what…?”
“Off you go, sweetness. The grownups have some stuff to discuss.” Wanda tells you, squishing your cheeks as you pass her. “You know what to do and what position we like. I’ll come and tap your shoulder when you’re done; understood?”
“Yes.”
Her fingers squeeze just a little harder.
“Yes, what?”
“Yes, mommy.”
“Good. Off you go.”
Tumblr media
That night, at 9:55pm, you’re lying in bed with Wanda as she reads to you another chapter from Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone. You lie there, facing her, head cradled against her chest as she reads some of the dialect from Albus Dumbledore and you can’t help but shake the exhausted feeling in your body. Your eyes are heavy, burning with sleep and you fight with them to stay open. It’s when you yawn, do you catch Wanda’s attention and she leans down to kiss your temple.
“Sleep, detka. Don’t fight it. We will all be here in the morning when you wake up.”
“But -”
“- and you can finish your work too, with breakfast if you’d like.”
“No…I wanna know what happens in the book.”
Wanda giggles, and looks down at you with adoration.
“How many times have you read these, baby?” she asks.
“...couple…”
“And yet you want to know what happens?”
“Just call me Dory.”
That earns you another laugh and this time, a peck on the lips.
“How about this, if you fall asleep, I stop reading immediately and we can continue on during breakfast. Does that sound okay?”
“...I’d like that.” You yawn again.
“Good girl,” she says. “Now shut those beautiful eyes for me.”
You do as you’re told.
“And don’t forget, bedtime is at 10pm, yes?”
“Mhm.”
“One day it might even be 10:30. But for now, 10pm works just fine I think. Don’t you think so?”
She’s baiting you. But you’re far too exhausted to bite. So you just sleepily agree and vow to fight her on bed time tomorrow, when you’re fully refreshed.
It’s a very good plan. Foolproof some might say.
You fall asleep as Wanda reaches the end of the chapter and dream of nothing.
Smiling when Wanda tucks you in and settles down for the night also.
One word on your mind: bliss.

✮ Things Severus will never say ✮
↳ a look through his diary
The pain I feel is wholly insignificant in the face of your betrayal. Oh sure, we have fought and hurt before but this time the pain I feel at your hand is so raw, so visceral, that the only way to soothe it is understanding that you are smiling. Your happiness trumps the pain I feel… I just wish you hated him like we used to so that it didn’t hurt so much when that smile was directed at him.
—after the rejected apologies
They scream and yell today. And yesterday. And every day since. Father doesn’t like when I do magic, Mother says it’s normal for My age and to just not show Father what I can do.

I’m unsure what hurts more. My pride or losing my first friend. The person on whom I could depend. Who I was changing for. Who looked at me and still believed I had some semblance of good inside, even when I’d proven time and again I don’t. And now I don’t have Her so what, pray tell, is the fucking point. I’ll write to Lucius in the morning.

The Malfoys, while newly-wed, are gracious hosts. I find comfort in Their home unlike anywhere I’ve ever been before. The future seems promising, and Lucius intends to speak with a benefactor on my potions skill. I shall have word back before Easter on career prospects under the sponsorship of this benefactor. I miss you. God, how I miss you. It’s been several months and it still hurts so much. So very much. Harry is safe, Dumbledore will not tell me where he is, but he is safe. Cared for. I hope he is loved. I wish I had not chosen this path. The one that took you away. But I am here now and I will work harder now to fix my mistakes. There’s clean-up to be done, people to put away. Wounds to heal, I only hope that if you look down on me, it is not with scorn with which you do it. Albus thinks this war is not over. If it isn’t… I’ll protect him. I’ll protect him with my life, I swear this. I will do for him what I should have from the beginning with you. I will change. I will be better. I will keep him safe.
—6 months after the Potters’ deaths.
He is more like his father than I expected. This will be tying. I will keep my promise but it will… be a trial.
—after Harry comes to Hogwarts
Give me patience, Lily, your son is every bit your husband and I regret to say I rise to his taunts every time. Patience, for strength, will send me to Azkaban and him to an early grave.
—sometime in Harry’s third year
This is my last entry. It has been years since the war began, longer than expected, and I will likely not make it out. I only pray the souls I doomed forgive me, but I don’t blame Them if not.
—the final page, day before the Battle.

hiii! i love your different characterisations of v so muchhh, how would you rank your voldemorts from the cruelest to the least cruel from all your fics?
That's such a fun question! Made me think a little, since my Voldemorts are always similar in nature, and mostly have some slight differences based on circumstances.
So, here we go, from the cruelest to the least cruel:
1.Voldemort from Ouroboros. (and from Beauty and the Beast, since I always intended them to be the same person with the same history. And he's also the same with The customer is always right.)
I think some people will not agree with this- I think the most common opinion is that Voldemort from Either must die is the cruelest, but in my opinion the one from Ourobors is far worse. The only difference comes from the way the protagonists sees him; Tom is cruel himself, so Voldemort doesn't look so bad to him; poor Harry is a national treasure made of kindness and compassion so he perceives his Voldemort in a different way. But, overall, in my mind, Ouro Voldemort is so much more broken, so much crueler than Either must die Voldemort.
2.Tom from Lesser Evil
Tom here is worse than even canon Tom. He suffers so much more in this world ruled by Grindelwald, and he also grows up with Gellert as a mentor, who gives Tom access to prisoners and poor civilians, with no consequences to be had. That universe is very, very lucky Tom developed an obsession with Albus, who so far keeps this feral boy from burning the world down. But when Albus will die...well. I would not want to be part of that universe, I tell you!
3.Voldemort from Either must die
I wouldn't say he's especially cruel compared to my other iterations of him, but this one is one of the sanest, so that makes him *highly* efficient. The scariest thing about this Voldemort is his remarkable patience and his crystal clear logic. Yet, over time, his daughter (and Harry, to a lesser extent) definitely mellow him out by the end.
4.Voldemort from It runs in the blood.
This one is also very scary because he's at the height of his power, still saner than whatever came back from Albania, and he's an expert manipulator. Some people tell me he is noticeably softer than my other Voldemorts, but he's not. It just seems that way because we see him mostly through the eyes of our smitten protagonist, Sirius, who also doesn't have the greatest moral compass in the world.
However, this Voldemort now gets someone in his life that might influence him in some ways, teach him something about caring for others.
5.Tom from Ouroboros (I feel like he should get a place in the ranking, too, since he's also Voldemort)
This is a Tom that grew up with a very broken, bent on revenge Voldemort. That learned dark magic straight from him, since an early age. Saw him torturing and killing muggles in their home basement.
Alas, he also got friends in this, and he learned some compassion because he felt safe, and that allowed him to care about others, too.
He's a sweetheart compared to his 'father', but he's still very much a cruel, selfish boy that ends up ruling the entire world and allows Voldemort to commit genocide against billions of muggles.
6.Voldemort from The last enemy.
He's dead, so he has nothing else to lose. There's no one around to be cruel to.
He also fell in love. Better late than never!
7, 8. Voldemort from Prison Blues/ Tom from Dissonance
Just plain, old regular cruelty levels.
9. Voldemort from Metamorphosis.
He's retired! He's too done with everyone's shit to be that cruel. He has it in him, of course, but those darn kids and that annoying Albus with his lovely, bouncing curls occupy most of his time, so he doesn't have the energy to be cruel much. And did he forget to kill Potter again? He even wrote it down somewhere!
10. Tom from `Metamorphosis.
He's just a darling. He's a little ...deficient when it comes to compassion, but he's definitely the most well adjusted from all the Voldemorts. He also makes a great step-dad! Ask Lucius, he'll tell you in a heartbeat that Tom is his favourite dad and he can do no wrong.
(Also, I realised the last 5 Voldemorts all had a fling with Abraxas? And they're the least evil? Hmmm....is that the secret? Malfoy cock is a cure to evilness??? Must be researched!)
This is just how I see it! I'm sure some of the people that read all these fics would rank them differently and that's fun and interesting! At the end of the day, Voldemort is rotten, everywhere, but he's just such an interesting, complex villain that I will never stop loving him. (From behind a laptop scree, of course. Where it's safe to love him and torture him in my fics.)
Thank you for the ask! ❤️

Based off one of your podcast episodes where you think Dumbledore killed Flamel, do you think Dumbledore would kill any wizard who found out different methods to being immortal?
Anon's referring to an @rankheresy episode by me and @therealvinelle (specifically this one)
TL;DL: @therealvinelle and I concluded that Dumbledore had killed Flamel before the events of Philosopher's Stone.
The thing is, that wasn't why we theorized Dumbledore killed him.
Dumbledore and Mortality
First, a bit about Dumbledore and death.
Dumbledore has some major hangups on death. To be fair, we all do, but Albus especially seems to in part because he seems to have obsessed over it in his youth as well as at his canonical age.
We know he chased after immortality as a young man and this concept of Master of Death. We know that upon gaining the cloak from the Potters, as well as the ring, he did get weird about it. Mostly, though, it's how he talks about death.
Dumbledore's often reiterating that death is a natural occurrance, which yes it is, but he romanticizes it. Death is the next great adventure, death is like going to sleep after a long hard day's work, it's a rest, a new path, and something we should look forward to when our time comes. And true, he's saying this to a child and of course sugar-coating things, and he's trying to explain why Tom's obsession with death and his horcruxes are unnatural, but it's still very strange things to say.
And the feeling I get, at least, is that Dumbledore is trying to convince himself that he's okay with death. Especially in book six where his mortality is catching up with him, he has much to prepare, and yet he's not quite prepared for when the end catches up to him despite himself.
This is a guy who thinks about death a lot and why he's no doubt convinced himself that Flamel, who he views as a good man, was totally okay with him and his wife dying after he's been not dying for several centuries because Dumbledore swears a Dark Lord who's been dead for ten years is after the stone.
But Dumbledore doesn't seem to view Flamel with contempt in Philosopher's Stone, or even all that misguided, just someone who after a long life had realized it was finally time and accepted it gracefully because the stone was very nearly stolen thanks to Dumbledore's bizarre obstacle course he set up in the basement of his school.
(This is where @therealvinelle and I come in, because we call foul on Flamel rolling over to die that easily when there have surely been thieves in the past, or letting Dumbledore do any of Philosopher's Stone without any intervention whatsoever and then supposedly quietly dying while Harry's passed out and agreeing to smash the stone after all that work to protect it.)
What Dumbledore is Not
Dumbledore clearly views Tom as bad in not accepting mortality, in murdering others to ensure his own immortality (rightly so, that's a very bad thing to do, as is splitting your soul apart even if it didn't require murder) but, and as weird as it is for me to defend Dumbledore, he's not itching at the bit to destroy Tom for that alone. That's just a facet to him of why Tom has gone too far and is unsalvageable and must be destroyed. It's a character flaw to Dumbledore, but one of many and not the main issue for all he brings it up quite often.
Dumbledore never gives off vibes of getting rid of or killing anyone who ever looks into immortality. Flamel, if @therealvinelle and I are correct, was left alone for many years when Dumbledore was personally acquainted with him and his wife until 1991. If there's other people who have similar immortality granting things, then we at least don't hear about them canonically.
Depending who they are, Dumbledore might view them as misguided, fearful, or else hold them in contempt but he's not a serial killer who's planning to hunt down people and murder them for doing things he doesn't like.
But the short answer is no, I don't think Dumbledore would do that.

Not that I ever get annoyed by the aggressive Snape hate on the internet at all (I actually do 🤧) but I feel like some perspective is genuinely needed.
I can't hear the 100th regurgitation of why Harry shouldn't have named his son Albus Severus and how people don't accept it and how it is ugly and crazy and whatnot. Might I suggest the wild possibility that Harry Potter actually has the ability to genuinely empathise with Snape? That which the people who endlessly rile about him just cannot see or feel Harry does and that's why he chose that name with intent and not just with pathos? The name Albus is another topic to discuss but really Harry seems to be able to see Snape from an angle that made him want to do that and call a child of his this name until his own passing. I don't think that was a crude or promotive act. I think Harry felt Snape beyond the surface. Whether people accept this or not, Harry was at the receiving end of Snape's bullying but somehow he was able to let go of his pain related to this experience. Maybe because he recognized a genuine love, I don't know. But I have faith that he had good reason to feel like these are the names that he wanted and they were right for him.

So, Harry Potter ask here:
This one might sound a bit controversial to comment on, I hope it doesn't bother you. What is your opinion about the narrative redeeming Snape, a former Death Eater (the blood supremacists guys), just because of his guilt and love for Harry’s mother. I see a lot of discussions on this topic (Snape himself is already a controversial character, so I guess it's no surprise there are so many discussions around him), remembering you I got curious to know what your thoughts on this subject.
No worries!
I see Snape as a character who is far and away the most complex character of Harry Potter. Now, HP's a fairy tale in principle, so most of its characters are not overly complex. But Snape is (and so is Dumbledore). But I think some people can have trouble processing complex characters inside fairly straightfoward, simple stories, which isn't necessarily the fault of the story.
While She Who Must Not Be Named has had a lot of "..." takes to her own works (and horrid takes elsewise), I do think she's not wrong about her statement on Snape: that he was a hero, and he was a bully, both at the same time. He just was. There's no excusing his treatment of his students. His heroism and sacrifice without any guarantee that he would be remembered as anything other than a traitor was brave.
So, not only is Snape complex, but he embodies the old adage "hurting people hurt people." His childhood is also extremely hard to read about--it sounds agonizing. Snape does grow up to bully others because he was himself bullied horribly--not just by his peers, but at home, where his father abused both him and his mother.
Another potential stumbling block for Snape's "redemption" is that it gets to the heart of what a redemption is. Is it actually a change in character? Or is it a change in how the reader perceives the character? Because technically, in universe, Snape's been redeemed since before Harry was born. It's just that our reactions to him change after the reveal in the last book. And, he was still hurting people while being a hero. (Antihero?) So, how should we feel about him?
I'm going to say that's exactly the question we're supposed to be asking, actually.
And to determine what asking that question gets us, let's look at Snape as a foil to other characters. Snape is a very good foil for Dumbledore, Harry, and Voldemort. Actually, these four all foil each other quite a bit, and it's in their foilings that we come to an understanding of the story's themes.
Like Dumbledore, Snape is somewhat morally gray. We're meant to ask the complicated questions at the end of the last book, which was all about wrestling with the legacy of heroes who turned out to be very flawed. Snape is cruel to Harry, but is ultimately determined to keep him alive no matter what because that is what Lily would have wanted. Dumbledore is loving and a good mentor to Harry, but does all of this while knowing that Harry would have to die in the end. Snape even calls Dumbledore out on this. Dumbledore also allows Harry to stay in two abusive situations--the Dursleys and Snape--for the ultimate benefit of protecting him... so he can eventually sacrifice himself.
If someone is horrible to you but ultimately determined to keep you alive no matter what, are they a worse person to you than someone who is nice to you and believes you must die, even if they are devastated by this?
This is why I really roll my eyes at people not understanding the purpose of "Albus Severus Potter" at the end. It's so dismissed and derided, but it's narratively perfect. (Especially in! A! Fairy tale!)
The names aren't about Harry and how he feels about these men. They are names that are significant symbolically for showing how Harry has reconciled these two complicated legacies, and will keep reconciling with them because their legacies are literally alive and living on (and the weight of having legacies and the question of whether you're seen as yourself is exactly what The Cursed Child explores.)
In the end, both Snape and Dumbledore achieved their goals: Harry is alive, and he died to vanquish Voldemort. All is well. Their legacies live on in a literal new life, who gets to decide for himself what his own legacy will be in TCC. Meaning, even if Harry acknowledges their flaws, he chooses to appreciate their lives. Instead of being kept in the dark, ignorant about his endgame and ignorant of his mother's history, he sees, and he gets to determine how he feels about it all. It's empowerment, not capitulation. It's maturity, embodying the macrocosm (appreciating the big picture) in the microcosm (a single person). (Also, yes, Dumbledore's "the greater good" struggles with Gindelwald tie into this idea, wherein via Snape and Dumbledore's opposite approaches/reasoning to protecting Harry, we see that the greater good vs the individual is not necessarily a dichotomy after all. So having a character literally embody both in the end is--perfect.)
Snape, Harry, and Voldemort all grew up unloved. The difference is that Harry is able to find himself surrounded by loving friends at a point. Snape is able to find one person to love. Tom Riddle isn't able to find anyone, and hence he becomes Voldemort. That shred of love inside Snape saves not just himself spiritually, but Harry physically. Because love is like that. It's the most powerful magic, after all.
As for the whole idea of showing Snape as redeemable thanks to love--I mean, listen, as someone raised in a cult, people need to realize that people inside these cults--even extremist, evil ones--need someone or something to motivate them to leave. They were a person before their joined the cult (unless you were brought up in it) and they're still a person. Giving someone ties to the outside is exactly how most of them will come to realize they have options. No, not everyone has to forgive them or be willing to extend a hand. We can't be everything to everyone. But if someone can, that doesn't mean they're excusing the inexcusable. They're just recognizing the humanity inside them. And even if no one does, the person in the cult can decide to love someone and leave. It's hopeful. It's a fairy tale, and love wins.

Dear Headmaster Albus Dumbledore of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry,
I hope you are in the best of health. I am pleased to inform you that I am. Breeding rabbits this year is a bit...troublesome. My little darlings are afraid of all the dogs and snakes that have been hanging around the neighborhood lately.
I heard that the famous Harry Potter will be spending his third year at Hogwarts this year. That sounds very exciting. How is the boy doing? I can still remember my time at Hogwarts very well. How I wish I could roam through those magnificent halls again.
But let's get to the point of why I'm sending you an owl. My work at one of the local Muggle hospitals around here is going well, but it is not the true fulfillment. I'm sure you've already filled all the professors' positions with some exquisite people. The circumstances mentioned above do not allow me to spend my life here any longer and I would be very happy if I could come back to Hogwarts. Could you possibly have a vacancy for me in the Hospital Wing or do any of the professors need an assistant?
I am very pleased to hear from you, Professor Dumbledore.
With the very best and kindest regards,
Minty Delaney
The hand of the man holding the letter was bony and old. Older than it should be. Nevertheless, he read the letter with his lips curled and almost pulled into a smile. The paper on which the message was written looked worn and was slightly yellowish in color. It gave the impression that the owl that brought him these lines had flown an almost infinitely long distance.
Professor Albus Dumbledore rolled the old piece of paper back up into a scroll and tied it back with the ribbon with which the letter had previously been sealed. The old wizard adjusted his crescent-shaped spectacles and cleared his throat briefly. He then sat down on his wooden chair and rested his hands on the solid desk in front of him. "Please." he said in a very friendly and welcoming tone as he pointed to a chair in front of him. A witch of the still young age of twenty nine years slid into his view, her hands restrained in her lap. She took a seat on the creaky chair. Her posture was very tense and her eyes looked anxious.
"Lovley letter. I was very pleased to receive it." Dumbledore said as he tapped on the paper. "Even if I was a little surprised."
"Forgive me for this sudden outburst. The circumstances..." the woman began in a calm voice, but the headmaster interrupted her by placing his hand on his lips.
"You wanted a post in the hospital wing. You would fit in perfectly there, but I'm afraid Madame Pomfrey is already doing an excellent job there."
"I understand. But Professor, you didn't have to let me come here to tell me that. Why don't you write me this cancellation in a letter?"
"I didn't say I didn't have a position for you. Hogwarts has always kept its doors open to those who have sought help and asked for it." the old man smiled. "In your letter, you mentioned that you would also work as an assistant to the professors?"
The woman with gray hair, which she wore in a loose braid, nodded. Her eyes had a pink, almost red glow and as it slowly dawned on her what Dumbledore wanted to tell her, they lit up with joy. The old wizard stood up and walked over to her. He placed his hand on her shoulder. "You will be working as a nurse in the hospital wing with Madame Pomfrey. I have a feeling that we will need someone like you at times like this. However, you will also help the professors with smaller tasks if they need it."
The young witch placed her hand gratefully on the headmaster's. A faint smile crossed her lips and a feeling of security and warmth rose up inside her, something she hadn't felt for a long time. "Thank you, Professor," she almost whispered.
"Use your time with the professors wisely, Minty. Someday I'll hire you as a professor for transfiguration."
Minty Delaney giggled. "You don't really think I'm competition for Professor McGonagall, do you?"
Dumbledore patted her shoulder and took a step back. "Not at all, you are both important and valuable to Hogwarts in your own way." The old man placed his hands on his lower back and his gaze swiveled around the room. He suddenly seemed a little distant and absent. "You must be tired, Minty. I've already had your luggage taken away. You'll find your bedchamber near the Ravenclaw common room. I thought a little proximity to your old house couldn't hurt. I'll introduce you to the professors tomorrow. Luckily, we still have some time before the new school year starts."
Minty stood up hastily. She didn't want to waste any more of Dumbledore's time, as he obviously had other plans for tonight. She tilted her head forwards slightly. "Thank you very much, Professor."
She hurriedly made her way to the spiral staircase that led out of the Headmaster's office. A large eagle guarded the entrance and as soon as she got closer to the statue, it opened the exit. Her foot was just taking the first steps into the long corridor in front of her when she banged her nose against something black. She pulled her hands up quickly when she felt the impact. She felt a rough material under her hands. It seemed to be a mage's robe. 'The object' was not an object, but a man's chest rising and falling as he breathed in a little annoyed.
Unsure, Minty moved her head upwards so that her chin was now digging into the ribbed, thin chest. Her eyes became a little watery. 'What an awkward and embarrassing situation...' she thought.
Her eyes met a very tense, pale face. Dark, tired eyes looked down at her. The man was several heads taller than the small woman. Minty could barely get a whimper out of her throat. The man with black, somewhat stringy hair raised his equally black eyebrow. His already cold face didn't move an inch.
Minty was paralyzed with fear and panic. 'Move...' She felt her jaw tighten and her body tremble. Every muscle was tense. It felt almost impossible to break away from the man, who was probably one of the professors. Minty's eyes ran over the features of his face. Over the dark eyes, to the slightly gaunt cheeks, back to his thinly curled lips and finally to the large, crooked nose in the centre of his face.
She wanted to say something, whisper some kind of apology for her clumsy behavior, but no matter how hard she tried to calm herself, the spasmodic panic spread through her stomach. She opened her mouth, took a deep breath, and the man grabbed her by the wrist.
"And you are..?" the man cut her off before one single word cut escape her throat. His voice was cold and there was a hint of bitterness in it.
"I'm sorry..." Minty stuttered. She feared that the man was about to break her arm.
The wizard quickly pushed Minty against the wall next to them and moved a little further away. He still had a firm grip on her wrist, while he had drawn his wand with the other and was now holding it to her chin. "Your name."
A whimper was all the witch uttered when she touched the cold wall. She squinted her eyes now. What a terrible confrontation. Minty's knees went weak and she took a deep breath. She felt dizzy. "A-a-ara..." she began softly and weakly as a familiar voice beside her interrupted her.
"Severus." Dumbledore's voice cut through her whimpering.
The dark eyes of the man, who was probably called Severus, left Minty and focussed on the headmaster. When he saw Dumbledore put on a friendly smile, Severus knew that there was no danger from this woman and let her go.
"There was no time to mention that I was expecting a guest. Why don't you go to my office, Severus?"
The professor nodded, but gave Minty one last, suspicious look before he went upstairs to the Headmaster's office. Dumbledore was now standing in front of Minty again, placing a hand on her shoulder reassuringly. "Minty..." His voice seemed a little stern.
The young witch swallowed a heavy lump. She was painfully aware of the mistake she had almost made. She had almost told the professor her real name. "I...I'm sorry." Minty stroked her still watery eyes with her index finger.
"No one should know. Do you understand that? You've kept it a secret for years, don't get careless now."
A nod. "I know, Professor."
Albus Dumbledore straightened up. "Now really go to sleep. Dark times are ahead of us. Use every minute you have to yourself." With these words, he left her alone and returned to his office.
Minty wasted no more time either and set off in the direction of the Ravenclaw tower. The way there was uneventful. Strangely enough, she knew exactly where to go without Dumbledore telling her which room was hers.
She was just sure that the path was right and just before she arrived at the tower, she saw a room. A room with a marking. Minty was overcome with such incredible happiness. She felt safe and secure, despite the strange confrontation with Severus. She had felt at home after many years. She quickly opened the door and stepped into the room.  Her eyes lit up with joy, knowing full well that Dumbledore had this room set up for her.
It wasn't a large room, but it was very cosy. Right on the other side was a wide window, through which the moonlight was currently shining. There was a large bed in the corner of the room below it. The bed linen was in pastel colours and, like everything else in the room, radiated a certain warmth and familiarity. The wall beside the bed was decorated with a number of dried flowers which where sorted around a mirror. To Minty's left were a pair of bookshelves filled with books on transformations, magical animals and potions. In the centre was a large white and very fluffy carpet. Minty's luggage was also there. A few candles were skilfully placed around the room to provide light.
Minty pulled the scrunchie out of her hair and a broad grin lit up her face. She quickly closed the door behind her and stepped fully into her room. She turned around a few times, taking in every little detail that was hidden here. She finally plopped down on the bed and looked at the door again. The symbol she saw outside was also on the inside of the door. It was a rabbit, its ears hanging limply downwards. That was Minty's symbol. The rabbit with floppy ears. The animal she could transform herself into.
She sighed with relief, stretched out her arms and let herself fall backwards. She bumped her wrist against the mattress a little too hard. A sharp pain shot through her and she hissed from the pain. A soft mattress shouldn't actually hurt. Minty looked at her wrist and saw a small bruise.
She immediately thought of the professor she had met earlier. She began to gently massage her wrist. There was something about this man's appearance that aroused her curiosity and interest. Still, he frightened her. Those dark eyes and that black hair...And then that nose...
He had been very slim, yet he was strong.
Minty closed her eyes.
She visualised him a little more in her mind's eye. She now also remembered the man's scent. Old books, like a library. Candles that had just been blown out. There was more, but she couldn't remember it. As if the room had been tailored to her exact needs, all the candles went out at once.
Minty Delaney's consciousness slowly slipped into a deep sleep. Her thoughts of the strange professor accompanied her into her dream world. There were some exciting days, weeks or even years ahead for her at Hogwarts.

THE BIG FIND 2023: Day 5
The Big Find is a 10-day long Drarry fic-finding marathon to celebrate the blog’s anniversary. Below is the Day 5 compilation of lost fics, both old and new, that we’ve been unable to find. Our aim is to get as much attention to these lost fics as possible, to help people finally find their missing fics! Anyone can participate by reblogging, reading through each list, providing additional fic details, and informing us the title, author, or link of a fic, and their respective number in the comment section. Happy finding!
5.1 George throws a life celebration for Fred at the Burrow and Draco is there. At night Draco and Harry sleep together at the Burrow and Draco wakes up in the middle of the night to Harry missing, he goes downstairs and Harry is talking with Ginny in the kitchen and Draco gets jealous 5.2 It started with Harry’s birthday (royal family?). And Harry was sneaking to the kitchens and accidentally spied on Draco making bread with the family servants. Harry and Draco then bond and they talk about how them feel like a combo of the houses. (I believe Draco is a Sytherpuff.) Draco also reveals that he is being abused by Lucius and is planning to leave on his 17/18th birthday before it gets worse. Later, during the party, there was a fight and Harry transported Draco and him to the Potter family gardens for protection. Harry then showed Draco a special (rainbow) flower and even parted the lake to show Draco the view. It ended with Lily, Molly, and Narcissa setting a trap for Lucius and him being arrested. Harry’s birthday then ended happily.
5.3 It started on the last night of their 8th year of Hogwarts. Harry was in the black lake where he met some kind of forbidden forest creature maybe a fairy/nymph, they gave harry a gift for his help defeating Voldemort. After that Draco met Harry and they spent the night in a hut or barn around Black Lake. The next day Draco left Harry, so Harry felt down because he knew Draco had to marry Astoria. A few days later harry got sick and then met snape (yes severus was alive) and he was the one who told harry that she was pregnant (it turn out the “gift” is the ability to get pregnant) and then took care of him during the pregnancy. A few years later, harry accepted the position of professor of defense against the dark arts where he met draco who a potions professor there too. harry brought his son to Hogwarts, I think his name is something that starts with D. I remember their children have the ability to dream something or empathize. there is a scene where lucius and narcissa meet their grandson and surprisingly they open up to it. snape is also part of the family because he lives with harry and his son so he is called grandpa. i think the last plot is that their son got lost in the forest because of the nymph so draco went to see him thanks to his son’s ability.
5.4 I read a fic (probably 2-3 years ago now) based on/inspired by the song “Boy in the bubble” by Alec Benjamin. Harry gets beat up by Dudley’s gang in the park near private drive. He skulks back to the house and Petunia questions him in the living room like in the song. I think it may also tie in later to the train scene where Draco breaks Harry’s nose? Which leads to Draco realising just how deranged Harry’s mental state is? Please help, this fic was the entire reason I listened to the song in the first place so I know it exists.
5.5 voldemort turned the rooms at harry’s childhood home (the one at godric’s hollow) into like challenges/traps? and in one of them there was draco, and the entire room (walls, ceiling, floor) was describes as being live, pulsating bloody flesh? Fic is not Forgive Those Who Trespass by Lomonaaeren
5.6 Drarry were in secret affair but Harry gets Ginny pregnant and they break up with the promise of getting back together after all the kids are grown up. So Albus and Scorpius are sent to Hogwarts, Harry meets Draco after years, they discuss and decide it is time to get back together. Draco is divorced while Harry plans to divorce Ginny who wasn’t happy at all finding this. James was the only kid who had trouble, he tries to run away from school but fails.
FOUND! 5.7 I believe I read it in AO3. It was a war fic with older Drarry stablished relationship and it was part of a series in believe, in a different part I think Draco had died and then had been brought back to life and one of the consequences of the spell was that they needed to have sex everyday to keep Draco alive. They also had a son and I think Draco carried him. They were living in Grimmauld (I think) and I remember this scene in which their son had been kidnapped because Kreacher had access to the house and had taken him to Malfoy Manor where Voldemort was staying (I think Lucius gave him the order). Then they had broken into the Manor to rescue the baby and Draco had taken a potion that made him invisible. The potion didn’t include his clothes so he was naked and Harry had the invisibility cloak. I also think they were married but I’m not sure
5.8 It’s very VERY old and I remember I read it in ff.net. it’s pre battle au. The story starts with the Malfoys deciding to change sides and going into hiding but they are found and attacked. Narcissa dies protecting Draco. After that Lucius and Draco goes to Diagon Alley till Draco starts the new school year. In the alley Draco finds the golden trio, I think they have some kind of discussion and when Draco returns to where they are sleeping he speaks with Lucius and talks about all his feelings (all this in the beginning of the story is what I remember the most) Sirius and Remus are alive and together I think. I remember they ‘welcoming’ Lucius in their little family. I think the fic was mpreg with Draco getting pregnant. I cannot remember if the story was finished
5.9 fic on Wattpad it is a creature inheritance and I think it’s set in like the 8th year after the war but I might be wrong. So harry is a Neko and is like a sub and I can’t for the life of me remember what Draco is. They are living in the room of requirement for some reason I can’t remember why. The big plot point I remember is that harry gets raped but like he thought it was his fault and feel like he wronged Draco to the point that he trys to kill him self but Draco helps him get better and the end is happy
5.10 set during the war, at least during fifth year. I don’t remember a lot but i do remember that harry was dark, and i believe he cast sectumsempra on walburgas painting and it caused the walls to bleed. I think he and snape were close to or something. Thinking about it right now, it could be wtwog but im not sure.
5.11 Harry and Draco spend the summer together. Draco gets a camera from a store from a muggle woman and is intrigued by the pictures not moving. I think they were avoiding school or in hiding. They were nervous to stay together at first, but they got more comfortable as time went on living together over the summer. I think they were living in an abandoned house or something along those lines!
5.12 Draco had a child. Draco was a rare fae that was taken by death eaters who tortured and sexually assaulted him, resulting in him having a child. Harry comes upon him in a rescue centre for magical creatures and tries to help Draco (post-second wizarding war). Draco had wings that he would wrap his child in whenever he felt threatened. Draco and Harry are mates and Draco eventually trusts Harry with his child. Draco is traumatised and therefore doesn’t speak but can communicate with his child through a mind link
5.13 searching for a fic where Harry is at first in a relationship with ginny but they had a big fight over Harry wanted to be pegged but Ginny not wanting to do it because she was afraid Harry would leave her for a man, because she noted how harry looked at other guys in the street, Harry relizes he is gay and he and Ginny broke up. Harry goes to a gay bar and see Draco, then follows him and sees him fucking a guy, he gets really horny. Draco confronts Harry at the ministry the next day (in the elevator) about him being in the club watching him, he tease Harry a little bit and Harry thinks Draco is just being an asshole, but then after some days and with the encuraging of Ginny he and Draco make out a little at the ministry and then fuck at Harrys house. They ended doing that very often and Harry start catching feelings (Draco abously does too) and they became boyfriends. At the end they go on a date and they meet up with Ginny and her new boyfriend Neville, Harry tells Draco a little about how Ginny was very kinky (like, there’s a mention of golden rain) and tells him about a little scene she wanted where he was in his auror uniform and she was arrested, and Draco sugest doing it but Harry was the one being fucked, Harry then thinks he is going to enjoy that more and says he would like that.
5.14 Draco is raised by Regulus, Narcissa giving Draco to him as a newborn child, and he decides to raise him properly in America. Lily and James are alive also Sirius and Remus, I think they were a couple. Draco had some special abilities I think and around when he was a teenager, Greyback found them and the Potters, Sirius and Remus came to warn them, but not quickly enough and Draco was injured and Lily healed him. Lily has 3 kids including Harry and she is a healer. It wasn’t a finished fic , in fact i don’t think there was more than 4-5 chapters in it at the time.

In Defence of Albus Dumbledore:
Look. I know this is an unpopular opinion, so I’m going to write this here because putting it anywhere else (like at the bottom of the fics which have inspired this frustration) would seem mean, and it would probably end up coming off as unintentional flaming, which I would never do to anyone ever. Also, as I’m less frustrated with individual works than I am with an entire situation, it wouldn’t really be fair to direct it at one specific person.
Get ready. This is going to be very ranty and long and I can't promise not to get off topic and onto a tangent a few times.
I understand that we all have grown up a lot since first reading Harry Potter. I get that once we realized how grey a few of Dumbledore’s decisions actually and the ways in which they affected the characters we love we all felt rightfully upset.
But can we please stop being so narrowminded about it?
There are plenty of redemption fics out there. A lot of them are works that redeem characters like Severus Snape, Draco Malfoy, Draco’s parents, various Dursleys and loads of other people. I’ve seen fics that have Sirius confronting the realities of his juvenal behaviours and having to atone for past wrongs. I’ve even seen (but admittedly never read) fics that redeem Voldemort himself.
But the least popular person for a redemption story in fanfiction by far seems to be Albus Dumbledore.
I get it.
He was supposed to be an infallible genius who did no wrong and he let us down. But please.
Can we all please just admit that we’re using Dumbledore as a stand in?
The hatred we as a fan community levy at Dumbledore is influenced by so much more than his actions in cannon.
It’s the dissolution we feel at growing up. The need as young people to bite back at overbearing authority. It’s the conviction that leaders should never be allowed to fail if failure means the death of innocent people. Even though we can all recognize on a personal level that our failures are typically unintentional and are definitely what make us human.
Of late, it’s very clear that Dumbledore is a stand in for the betrayal we feel at JK Rowling’s anti-trans standing.
We all loved her so much.
She gave us this world.
She promised it to everyone.
And then she said that it was all a lie, and that it was never meant for some of us anyway.
The parallels are clear.
While we were first reading, we loved who Harry loved. Simply because he loved them, and we loved him.
When we grew up, we started acknowledging the ways in which the characters mirrored people in real life, and we chose the people we found the most familiar to love instead. Personally, I understand the reason I read Severitus so often is because I had a largely absent father who I idolized as a child, and that father was a bit of a rockstar like person. Dark, intelligent, and cruel when he wanted to be. Artistic, genius, condescending, and amazing.
As an adult, I still long for his love and approval. Learning that Severus was capable of so much good at the very end of his story, that he was in fact good all along, even when he looked exactly the opposite, gave me hope that my father was too. Even though I now understand that redemption for my father is just a fairy tale it’s still a story I hold close to my heart. A story I long for. It’s a possible happy ending for both a lonely child and a jaded grouchy adult.
Albus Dumbledore was different.
This was a man that we trusted to have everyone’s best intentions at heart. We were told he was safe. We were told he was the smartest man in any room. And then he failed us. And we looked back at all he had done, and rather than seeing the good he had tried to achieve, all we could see were the mistakes he had made.
I firmly believe that the reason that so many people hate him so strongly now is because we all loved him so much first. Like Harry, we all believe that he was incapable of mistakes. His mistakes in cannon aren’t any more morally condemning than anyone else on the light side.
Keep in mind that I said, “in cannon.” I feel like I need to distinguish that. In cannon, though Harry asked if he could stay at Hogwarts during the summer, he never told Dumbledore about living in a cupboard under the stairs. His letter was addressed to there, but we have no way of knowing whether it was physically or magically written on the envelope. And besides, that letter was signed by Professor McGonagall, not Dumbledore. Harry also never mentioned to him the Dursleys withholding food. Or locking up his trunk so that he couldn’t do his homework. He made it clear that they disliked him, that they thought him a burden, but think. Really think. Dumbledore is the head of a school full of children. How many children misunderstand and exaggerate even in their own minds how much their families dislike them.
Let me be clear; when I say kids exaggerate I don’t mean in terms of abuse. I only mean typical things such as, “My mom’s always grouchy when she gets home from work and she never notices that I’ve tried really hard by cleaning the bathroom if she told me to clean the kitchen before she got home and I decided to do the bathroom because I wanted to clean it instead of doing the dishes and now she’s yelling at me that she just needs me to help her sometimes, and I don’t feel like that’s fair because really I do. Look, I cleaned the whole bathroom by myself! And I straitened up the living room too! The only thing I ‘forgot’ was the kitchen and now she’s acting like I do nothing. This means she hates me and appreciates nothing I do. I am clearly a burden to her, and I should go live under a rock so that she doesn’t have to deal with me anymore.” Really, your mom probably isn’t saying you’re a burden. Your mom is more than likely overworked, over-tired, and almost certainly depressed in a society that doesn’t cater to mental health awareness, and on top of all that she was raised by a generation that was allergic to admitting and self-regulating their true feelings so she can’t articulate that and she’s instead taking her frustrations out on you.
This is wrong, and she shouldn’t do it. But consider. Why didn’t you want to clean the kitchen? Was it because you had a long hard day at school and you’re overworked, over-tired, and definitely depressed in a world that doesn’t cater to mental health awareness, and all you really wanted was a break from the hardest job and you just wanted to compromise by doing the ones you felt emotionally and physically able to do? Because I promise, that’s probably exactly how your mom feels about the damn dirty dishes that she’s going to have to deal with before she can make dinner after being cussed out and yelled at by customers and or bosses all day in between doing her actual work and that’s the real reason she’s yelling.
Because, though a lot of teens believe otherwise, parents are still just people and the feelings that overwhelm kids still overwhelm adults just as badly. And they’re even less likely to know how to help themselves because they didn’t grow up with the internet where everyone shares their feeling and gets back validation and advice, so they mostly just believed those feelings were personal failings that indicated something broken specifically only in them and that they should learn to live with it and never tell anyone ever because complaining is for babies and liberals. Okay, maybe that last bit is a little too specific to my own mother, but you get the idea.
It’s a cycle that’s been going on for years. Hopefully, we can eventually all learn how to communicate peacefully and compromise on chores sometimes so we can end it someday. Or everyone can just switch to paper plates, and then we’ll worry about how we’re killing the planet later and no one will have to do the dishes ever again.
The point is, while that isn’t the best parenting style, and it can cause issue’s with your familial relationship as you age, it isn’t technically abuse. And it especially wouldn’t be considered abuse in the 90’s while Harry Potter was taking place or the early 00’s when it was being published.
Harry was not bruised when he arrived at Hogwarts. He didn’t show obvious outward signs of abuse. He never told any adults what his life was like at the Dursleys at all. He really didn’t even say much about it to Ron or Hermione either. Mrs. Weasley sent him treats for his birthday, which was a sweet motherly gesture. Hermione and Hagrid did as well but think about it. Do you believe for a second that if Molly have-another-serving, can-I-get-you-some-more-bread, try-the-potatoes Weasley honestly thought the Dursley’s were starving Harry that she would first wait until the end of July to send Harry anything, and then only send him sweets? She would scale the Dursleys’ house and stuff a full six course meal through the bars multiple times a day before she let that boy live off stale birthday cake. When she asked if the Dursley had fed him enough she meant it in the same way she always meant it, in the if ‘I can feed the world I can love the world’ way.
Hagrid sent him rock cakes, but again, think about it. Hagrid had shown up with a cake for Harry’s birthday the day he first delivered the letter when he couldn’t have yet known of the way Harry was treated. He just wanted to show Harry he was loved and missed.
Of the people who sent him food, only Hermione really knew Harry didn’t get to eat his fill at the Dursley’s and she still only sent cake because all she knew was that he was being forced to diet with Dudley. Which is why she sent him the kind of food one would eat if they weren’t on a diet instead of true sustenance. A fourth of a grapefruit as a meal is not a diet, no matter what Petunia called it. And if he had told Hermione specifics, she likely would have told Harry that, but again, he didn’t tell anyone specifics.
Everyone knew that Harry was unfavoured by the Dursley’s and that they wouldn’t be celebrating his birthday, and he wouldn’t receive cake or presents, but they really didn’t know much else. Ron and Hermione only understood he was being starved in the way most naive well-fed kids from happy families can understand. It sounded cruel, and they did try to tell people, but because they didn’t understand the full gravity of the situation, they couldn’t properly communicate to trusted adults that Harry was actually experiencing abuse. Plus, Harry tended to downplay it even to them.
When Dumbledore speaks about knowing Harry would come from a less than happy home, you can tell he is picturing a world where Harry is liked second best to his cousin. Where he never feels fully at home. Like an overextended visitor in a relative’s house. He thinks they’ll treat him like the weird cousin who came to stay and never left rather than an immediate family member.
He isn’t picturing Petunia Dursley slinging a frying pan at Harry’s head. Or refusing to let him drink his fill of water on a hot summer’s day spent weeding her ridiculous flower garden. Or an overly restrictive diet enforced on an already undernourished body simply to make Harry’s morbidly obese cousin feel better about his doctor changing his eating habits.
I think we’ll all agree that feeling less than welcome by stuck up relatives sucks, but it’s better than whatever Voldemort’s loyal leftover followers will do to him if they manage to track down the person responsible for their dark lord’s downfall.
I understand why a lot of people feel like Dumbledore should have just put Harry under the Fidelius Charm and hid him rather than sending him to the Dursley’s but consider: If Dumbledore trusted Sirius the way he must have done to not betray James and his family, then it makes sense that he felt Fidelius was no longer an option. He fully believed Sirius was the secret keeper. Sirius, the Potters, and Pettigrew were the only ones to know of the change. It’s likely that after learning that the Death Eaters had convinced Sirius to betray the Potters he was jaded enough to take it as a sign that no one could be a trusted Secret Keeper. No matter how much they loved the person under protection.
He also likely would have insisted on a trial for Sirius had Sirius himself not told everyone that he was the one who killed James and Lily while descending into hysterical laughter. We know what Sirius meant, (he felt responsible for them dying because switching to Peter at the last minute had been his idea) because we read the third Harry Potter book, but Dumbledore didn’t have that same advantage. All he had was the word of an apparently mad man. A man who had just tracked down another dear friend and apparently killed him and 12 innocent bystanders in a fit of insanity.
Why, when last he had heard Sirius was the Secret Keeper, would he doubt a verbal confession from a man who did nothing to try and save himself from Azkaban? The Marauders never told anyone of their animagus abilities. No one but Sirius could have understood what Peter had done. Why do we expect Dumbledore to have known better?
So, instead of Fidelius and hiding Harry away for his entire childhood, he gave him the best protection he could think of under the circumstances he had been given. He sought to give Harry a normal life and to keep him safe from the remaining Death Eaters.
Dumbledore understood that fame was power, and that power could corrupt even the best of people with the strongest of minds, so he kept Harry away from the limelight. He also understood how fickle people where about fame. This was the right decision even if the Dursley were a bad choice in guardians. We saw proof of this numerous times while Harry was at school. His fame only ever seemed to bring him more hardships. In book two they said Harry was a dark wizard because he was a Parselmouth and that that’s how he overpowered Voldemort. In book four even some of Harry’s friends refused to believe he wasn’t just a glory hound and that it hadn’t been him who entered his name in the tournament, but rather someone trying to kill him. In book five, almost everyone refused to believe Harry was telling the truth about Voldemort’s return. Every single time Harry’s name entered the limelight, it was in a way that harmed him. Imagine how much earlier it would have started had he grown up in the wizarding world. They would have been debating his kindergarten finger paintings if they could have.
Why does the entire fandom also assume that Dumbledore thought of himself as the wisest most all-knowing man in any room? The only people who canonically acted like they believed that about him were the Golden Trio, and they were enlightened otherwise multiple times throughout the books as they grew up. Just as everyone learns new truths about trusted adults they thought of as perfect as they grow.
The fact is, Albus Dumbledore has always been just a man.
He was a great and powerful but flawed man who wanted more than anything to make sure that evil could not prevail. He obviously still holds plenty of shame and guilt over his dealings with Gellert Grindelwald in his misspent youth. We have surmised that when he looked in the Mirror of Erised he likely saw his sister Ariana, or something as equally heart-breaking which he recognized as his own fault. He fully understood that he was just a man. He encouraged everyone to understand that fact about Voldemort as well.
He was not a god, and he didn’t pretend to be.
Not in cannon anyway.
Fanon Dumbledore, on the other hand, tends to be anything from a meddling idiot to a full on manipulative dark lord complete with moustache twirling and nefarious intent. Which, I believe, further influences and enforces the fandom’s collective bad opinion of him. Most of us haven’t reread the real books in years. It gets hard to remember at some points what was something he did in canon vs. what was something he did in fanfiction.
Every other character seems welcomed to grow in the world of fandom.
Severus was canonically a willing Death Eater in his youth, a bully to children in his care in his adulthood, and a petty grudge-holder who couldn’t let go of the past. We accept that we can’t fully know how much of his behaviour towards the students was an act to fool the Death Eater’s children, but we can assume it definitely wasn’t all of it. Still, he gets plenty of redemption fics. He had literal access to Harry’s traumatic childhood memories but still saw no signs of abuse because he was too busy trying to keep a 15-year-old child from gaining any ammunition about his own past.
Looking back, it seems obvious that as very few of Harry’s childhood memories were shown in the Occlumency scenes, he likely wasn’t as bad at clearing his mind as either he or Snape assumed, but it was also possible that Severus didn’t see those memories because that wasn’t what he was looking for. The memory of Harry getting chased up a tree by Marge’s dog as the rest of his family watched and laughed should have triggered at least a couple of red flags, but Severus was typically determined to only see the bad in Harry, so he overlooked it.
James Potter who is often thought of as the better choice for Lily was also a bully. And he spent years relentlessly pursuing a relationship with someone who had never given him any indication that his advances were welcome and had in fact outright told him the exact opposite of that many times until he finally wore her down and convinced her to give him a shot. That’s gross, unacceptable behaviour but I guess it is technically better than dating a budding racist that sees you as the exception to his views on your people, so James is rebranded as a lovable hero who changed after having a slightly misspent youth rather than a mean spirited bully who likely grew bored with his main target once he no longer saw him as competition (there would have been no reason to bully Snape if Lily wasn’t friends with him anymore after 5th year which was conveniently around the time he began to “grow up”) as well as a pushy loser who wouldn’t take no for an answer even though Lily said it multiple times. (There’s also the point that once Snape knew about Lupin being a werewolf, James likely wouldn’t have bullied him anymore so as not to provoke Snape to reveal the secret and get Lupin thrown out of school and possibly killed.)
Ron told Molly outright that the Dursley’s were starving Harry and had fixed bars on his windows to trap him after weeks of being concerned when he didn’t reply to Ron’s letters, and she still ignored it, assuming instead that Ron was exaggerating and never even tried to check with Harry to learn that he wasn’t.
Remus spent a year teaching Harry individualized lessons to repel Dementors and never once asked him why he was so sad that they affected him in ways that none of the other students experienced. I mean really, he couldn’t have been the only orphan attending that school so Remus couldn’t have thought it was just that. And Neville’s backstory was nearly just as sad (and just as well known to Remus) and even he didn’t faint like Harry. Yet, he didn’t question Harry once.
Sirius (who is also a bully and a petty grudge-holder) never wondered why a child would want to move in with an escaped prisoner who he had never met before that had just mangled his best friend’s leg and tried to commit murder in front of him instead of the relatives he had been with his entire life. Even when until that very night he had believed that prisoner wanted to kill him?
Arthur actually met the Dursley’s and saw Vernon’s rage at magic when he came to collect Harry for the Quidditch World Cup and he still questioned nothing.
Half the Order found Harry locked inside his bedroom with locks affixed to the outside of the door, and all they did was give vague unfulfilled threats to Vernon and send Harry back. You could blame that on Dumbledore, but I think that’s ridiculous. They were not under Imperious. They made their own decisions. Every adult there had a responsibility to that child, and they all failed him individually.
Yet time and time again I see Dumbledore condemned so overwhelmingly in the very fics that redeem and or absolve these other characters of those very actions.
Even McGonagall, who knew from the start that the Dursleys were awful people, never pulled Harry aside as his head of house and asked him anything about his home life. And, as I stated earlier, her name was the one on the letter addressed to the cupboard under the stairs. She also made it very clear that she wasn’t someone for Harry to confide in by constantly dismissing any concerns he presented her. The way she reacted about the Stone was ridiculous. And her non-concern over the amount of detentions Harry received from Umbridge followed by the ‘have a biscuit’ scene rubbed me the wrong way. And yet, of late she seems to be revered in the fandom community as some kind of badass grandmotherly character. All because she protested one time about leaving Harry with the Dursleys and then never brought it up again.
It’s getting a bit ridiculous. I’m exhausted by the way the fan community continues to rewrite cannon to fit their dissatisfaction with our once trusted role-model JK Rowling through Harry Potter’s once trusted mentor Albus Dumbledore.
Just once I would like to read a Harry Potter fic without having to think about the various ways in which JK Rowling let us all down. And with everyone rewriting Dumbledore as the ‘real villain all along’ I can’t help but be taken out of the fic and forced to relate it to reality.

Sometimes I’ll see a marauders take so terrible I wonder how anyone who likes the harry potter series or the marauders characters could take it seriously. But then I’ll see something like Reguluslover7896 as their username and then it all makes sense. Some Regulus fans will seriously hate on ever other character to make their favorite who joined a racist group look better. Like the mental gymnastics I’ve seen. A few clown takes I’ve see over the past year are like:
* “Albus Potter should have been named after Regulus instead of Snape!” Bruh...... I don’t even know how delusional you have to be to actually believe this
* “James and Regulus raising Harry uwu while Lily gets killed off in a brutal manner like drowning to death.” Tell me that you are misogynistic without telling me. Also stop fucking demonizing female characters because they “get in the way” of your mlm ship. I imagine that the fandom would riot if lily was in a different ship and James was demonized for it, like snily or something.
* “Regulus was only 17!!!!!!!!!! He’s still a kid so him being a FAN of the hate group that’s clearly an allegory for real life supremacist groups is not on him. His parents were probably threatening him to doing it.” That's all conjecture and the last part is headcanon. Also I don’t care about the whole he’s just a kid thing. He was not fucking 5, he was 17-18. I’m around that age and you should have morals at that point. I also don’t buy it cause that’s not how the world works! I had a class full of teenage boys who were fans of Andrew Tate and said bigoted shit  like “Women are inherently more incapable of leadership cause they’re too emotional” or “Queer people are gr**mers.” They knew what they were saying and I don’t care if they’re still young and learning. They still hurt and made people in my class feel unsafe. They’re still responsible for saying harmful stuff.
Anyways I’m just venting.

Character Essay: Snape
So, there are some characters that I have feelings about. Like, that I can see what the author was trying to do with them, but I also just... think they failed.
Unsurprisingly, two of these characters have to do with Harry Potter. Severus Snape, and Albus Dumbledore.
Yes, I know, J.K. Rowling is a terrible person and a TERF. But this is still something I wanna write about. And this is my blog. So... yeah. The Albus Dumbledore post might come later.
So, Severus Snape.
I’m gonna break this down into 3 big issues I have with the character. Which does definitely call into question the way Snape was written. And I'll even put it under a read more so any people who are pro-Snape for whatever reason don't have to read any further.
And yeah, this isn't going to be nice to Snape. Like, I've said it before, and I'll say it again, Albus Severus Potter should have been named Rubeus Remus. It is actually kind of a crime that he never named a child for Hagrid, considering Hagrid was literally the first person who was nice to him and introduced him to the Wizarding World. But I digress, let's get to the main subject of this essay.
1. Treatment of Students
We know why Snape treats Harry like shit. It doesn't make it ok, but I wanna talk about other students. Disregarding the favouritism towards his own house, we already come across a huge problem, that is also a problem with Dumbledore as well...
Snape's an abusive teacher.
Even if we disregard Snape's treatment of Harry, we have how he treats students like Neville, and insults leveled at students not within his house. Even the best Hermione, who is basically as close to a perfect student as we get, is simply ignored and passed over without a comment, and Neville... Hoo boy.
Like, I don't know the specific guidelines teachers are given that they're not allowed to cross, but Snape breaks almost all of them. Insults and abuse are hurled towards Neville constantly, even when he's in other classes, like him insulting Neville right in front of Lupin. And while I do like Lupin... Lupin just smiles at it. Nothing ever happens. Snape apparently never even gets told off about abusing his students. Hell, he yells at Hermione and Harry in front of the Minister for Magic in the 3rd book, and Fudge, while surprised, does nothing about it other than trying to calm Snape down.
Like, is abuse just... not a thing in the Wizarding World? This comes up in my thoughts about Dumbledore as well, beyond this, but...
If Snape was a teacher anywhere else, he would have been fired. Like, immediately. But he's just allowed to do so. Like, the closest thing to punishment he gets is that he's not allowed to teach Defence of the Dark arts until Harry's 6th year.
And just so we know this isn't the norm, let's look at another teacher... Minerva McGonagall.
She is the head of Gryffindor House (although I still think she should be a Ravenclaw. As should Hermione. BUT ANYWAY) but she does not favour her house. Excluding Quidditch, in which she supports her House's team, but that's a different thing, that's fine. Whereas Snape has probably never taken so much as a single point from Slytherin, she was responsible for the largest amount of points taken from Harry at one time, if I'm right. If not the largest amount, certainly the largest amount of points taken in the first book. She is also strict, but is also shown to be fair, and will compliment a student and praise them if they do well. She praises Hermione in their first class, because while Hermione did not entirely succeed, she did show godd progress for her first try. And while we do not see her compliment a student from another House, it can be assumed that it does happen.
This is how a teacher SHOULD be. They are there to nurture students, teach them, not abuse them and play favourites.
There are other teachers in Hogwarts, but Snape is the main one who abuses them. A case could be made for Barty Crouch (disguised as Mad-Eye Moody) abusing them, by putting them under the Imperius Curse) but considering he was a Death Eater, and was apparently doing it because Dumbledore wanted him to, we'll just... ignore him. I don't think it's too far from what Moody would actually do, although I don't like to think of Moody as abusive.
But yeah, Snape is very abusive of his students, to the point that the most positive thing he can really do towards a student that isn't from Slytherin is ignore them or say nothing. And abuse is a really fucking bad thing, in case you didn't know.
Let's move onto the next topic...
2. His 'love' of Lily Evans
Yeah, I put the love in quotation marks. Mainly because it... doesn't really read that much like love to me. I am aromantic, so that might have SOMETHING to do with it, but...
It just comes off more as a creepy sort of obsession than anything else. An obsession deep enough for him to have a doe as a patronus.
Like... let's start from the beginning. The first time we see Snape and Lily, Snape is spying on her and it's implied that he's been doing so for a little bit. Even though they're just kids, I'm pretty sure that counts as stalking. And then he makes a branch fall on Petunia when she insults them, which could have seriously injured her, depending on the size of the branch and where it hit her. It was enough to make Petunia cry at the least when it hit her shoulder.
Snape also encouraged Lily to steal letters from her sister and read them, when they found out that Petunia had written to Hogwarts. Although I guess that doesn't really come into the subject of his 'love' for Lily.
We also see that Snape is very... racist, I guess? Does the whole blood thing count as racist? Calling Lily a Mudblood, and then when he tries to apologise he can't even deny that if it was anyone but her, he would not apologise for it. So basically having different rules for her, which I guess could come into a love thing but the fact that he calls muggleborns Mudblood and yet 'loves' one comes out as... kinda fetishistic to me, I'm not gonna lie.
In the books we also have him desperate to protect her from Voldemort, crying when she's dead... And yet despite that, he is horribly abusive to her son, just because he looks like his father. And yet he does say that he wants to keep him safe, angry at Dumbledore when he finds out they've basically been raising him like a lamb to the slaughter. So apparently he's fine with possibly mentally scarring Harry, but killing him? Oh, that's just totally unforgivable!
You can point out various things across the books that Snape has done for Harry, but that doesn't change the fact that Snape is INCREDIBLY abusive to Harry, even moreso than he is to other students.
And then we have him taking part of Lily's letter, just because it had her signiture, and part of the photo that showed her in it, which just... always struck me as creepy. Stalker-ish. I dunno how to explain it any better than that.
And then, we have absolutely the creepiest part... him wanting Harry to look at him as he dies. Just so he can pretend that he's looking into Lily's eyes, probably. Which... yeah, that's just super creepy.
Like, I honestly cannot see it as romance at all. It just comes off as Snape having an obsession. It's even worse in the movies where he is shown cradling Lily's dead body against him and crying. Which normally wouldn't be that bad but with everything else on top of that... yeah.
This does bring us onto the last subject...
3. Snape's 'Redemption'
Snape's redemption is supposed to happen after his death. Here's the problem... he's one of the main examples about why J.K. is very poor when it comes to redeeming characters. Like, Draco could have been set up for a redemption, but he wasn't, as were his parents. Snape was set up for a redemption... and J.K. seems to think it was enough?
So, the main thing that is supposed to redeem Snape, that is meant to make us think he's ok... is showing us his past with Lily, and various discussions with Dumbledore. The whole sequence is for exposition and to try and make us think Snape is a good guy because he 'loved' Lily, and that was his motivation for everything good he did. Which, again, comes off as pretty obsessive.
Here's the thing though...
Snape abused Harry for 6 years of his life. He made Draco set a snake on him in his second year. He repeatedly broke into Harry's mind which seemed to end up having the opposite effect that Dumbledore wanted. Dumbledore even basically admits as much, saying that Snape was a poor choice for it, that he had hoped Snape would be able to see past his hatred of Harry's father. He refused to listen to anyone when it came to Sirius, refusing the possibility that Sirius might be innocent (until Dumbledore talked to him about it, probably), outed a colleague as a werewolf, which, considering the allergory J.K. was aiming for, was like outing a gay man, and made him resign from his job because he knew student's parents would be writing in to complain about it, so it essentially cost Lupin a job, which as we know, is already something that werewolves had problems with.
I do have issues with J.K.'s allergory of werewolves as homosexuals... but let's just say that one of the most notable werewolves, after Remus, was known for attacking and 'turning' children and leave it at that. It's not relevant to the topic at hand anyway.
Showing us that Snape did some things right, and that he 'loved' Lily... like, let's pretend that he did love Lily for a moment, and that it wasn't a creepy obsession.
... That still doesn't excuse the shit he did. It doesn't excuse the abuse at all. It doesn't redeem him from being a Death Eater. His only reason for wanting to save the Potter family was Lily.
Saving Harry's life in the first year by countering Quirrell's curse, and then acting as referee in the next match to protect Harry? That doesn't redeem the abuse that he inflicted upon Harry in the first year, let alone the rest of it.
Let's assume he had the best intentions in Prisoner of Azkaban, and he was interested in rescuing Harry, Ron and Hermione from Sirius. Although that is a HUGE assumption, all things considered... still doesn't redeem him.
Checking that Sirius was indeed at headquarters and then alerting them that Harry had gone to the Department of Mysteries to try and save Sirius when Sirius wasn't even there? Still doesn't redeem him.
None of the good things Snape does redeems him for the abuse he inflicted upon his students and especially Harry and Neville, and his love for Lily reads more like a creepy obsession.
J.K. tried to redeem Snape... and absolutely failed. Sometimes when you write a character, you need more than a single chapter to redeem them.
I'm not even sure if Snape was redeemable at all. Abusing children is a pretty fucking terrible thing. And I don't think it's even me being biased for being abused by a teacher, it's just unacceptable.

No hate, here is just some of my opinions for each Harry Potter ship. (All the ships that I would be writing about is on the hashtags section, such as drarry and romione etc...)
Drarry
- this ship makes me gay
- i just love the thought of rivalry and hidden feelings
- enemies to lovers vibe
- they should have ended up together, i think this would be the best. Like, so that the series has someone else who is gay (apart from Professor Albus Dumbledore whom JK Rowling said so)
- people should make more fanfictions about them...
Hinny
- literally like a love at first sight/soulmates vibe
-they are just meant to be
- i think they are cute
- i just think that the only reason Harry married Ginny was because they had a crush on each other, like how Ginny liked Harry during his second year at Hogwarts and her first year. But I really think Harry and Hermione are meant for each other (lemme talk about that when its their part for the opinions ; and )
- i like how their relationship doesnt matter, like the age gap between them... doesnt matter...

Smut & Fic
Rules: pick any ten fics, select some smut or pre-smut dialogue, and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, feel free to share anyway!
I was tagged by the lovely @skeptiquewrites who asked about my single PWP recs - it was so fun to put this together! I’ve decided to link ten of my smut recs following my own favorite banners, and quote some of my favourite lines. The good thing about not being an author is that I don’t have to care much about context, romance or aesthetics here - I can just focus on that hot dirty talk and be on my way, you’re all welcome 😂 tagging whoever wants to join, and also no-pressure tagging @writcraft, @danpuff-ao3, @lqtraintracks, @wolfpants and @sorrybutblog if you haven’t done it yet :)
Matched Set by astolat | My rec
Quote: “I don’t mind, Potter. You can give it a pull, too, if you want to know what a big one feels like.”
Patient, Hungry, Waiting by @shealwaysreads | My rec
Quote: “Oh,” Potter breathed, as Draco drew closer still. “Somehow I don’t think your social saviour routine was quite as benevolent as you present it.” Draco hummed, pleased, as he hooked his fingers into Potters belt-loops. “It’s like you know me,” he whispered as he leant in to bring their mouths together.
(Un)Calculated Risk by @l0vegl0wsinthedark | My rec
Quote: “You’re like an animal,” Draco said, talking over the devastated little cry that he’d nearly let out. “Only animals eat arse with this sort of unapologetic enthusiasm.”
heavy by @onbeinganangel | My rec
Quote: “I like everything you do to me,” Potter replies in that way that is so quintessentially him — both honest and disarming, all at the same time, and Draco’s pulse quickens.
You Either Fuck or You Get Fucked by @fw00shy | My rec
Quote: He wrapped a hand around Harry's cock between them before thrusting once, cradling the back of Harry’s neck in his hand. “How’s that? You like it? Like that Malfoy dick?”
"Hate it. Don’t stop." Harry’s eyes were watering."
Tense by Faith Wood | My rec
Quote: Potter seemed to consider this for a moment. "Your cock. In me. Now," was what he came up with. "Sounds like a telegram," Draco mused. "Lacks please."
Teeth by Amelior8or | My Rec
Quote: “It’s okay,” Harry croaks, his thrusts all-consuming but somehow tender, shy. “I promise it’s okay. I’ve got you. I won’t let you go.” Draco hiccups into something that is too close to a sob, pinches his eyes shut against what threatens to burst out. “I’m so hard to hold.”
break the bad luck in my life by seaworn | My Rec
Quote: “Yes,” Potter nodded his head, kissing Draco’s jaw before kissing him on the mouth again, big palms cupping Draco’s chin. “Always so put together. You’re so pale, Malfoy. I can’t wait to mess you up,” he mumbled against Draco’s mouth.
Bonus: 2 delicious age gap smut because it wouldn’t be me otherwise 😌
Team Players by @shiftylinguini | My Rec
Ship: established James/Teddy, James/Oliver
Quote: “See, that’s when I stopped being jealous,” Teddy went on, in a low tone. “Seeing you take it and moan like it was the best fucking thing that had ever happened to you.”
Euphoria by birdsofshore | My Rec
Ship: established Albus/Scorpius, Albus/Draco
Quote: "Please." I can see Al's legs quivering. They must be getting tired, hooked over Father's shoulders like that for so long. "Please, Draco. Fuck me. Fuck me some more."
