25 Things That Surprised Me as a Brit Living in Japan
1) Shops and supermarkets change their stock regularly. One day you buy ice cream, and when you go back three days later to get some more, it’s gone and there’s no evidence they ever sold it. No “sorry this is sold out”, no empty space where it was.
2) So much single-use plastic. Cookies, cakes, fruits and vegetables etc are individually wrapped, or wrapped in packs of two. To be fair though, Japan is much better at recycling all this plastic. Which leads me nicely on to...
3) PET bottles go in one recycling bin, the plastic labels and bottle tops go in a different one. You can’t just put them in together.
4) Multipack crisps are not a thing. Or if they are, I’m yet to find them. I’m used to getting 24-bag multipacks and adding crisps to my lunchbox, taking them with me in case of sudden hungries and using them to get me by between meals. Here you only really get crisps in sharing-size bags, and there’s much less variety. (Although you can buy chocolate-coated crisps, which sound like a cardinal sin but are pretty tasty)
5) There are lots of varieties of plain yoghurt. There’s not a lot of variety of flavoured yoghurt, especially when it comes to large pots. In the UK I can get strawberry, strawberry wholegrain, raspberry, blueberry, mango & passionfruit, mango & apple, mango & vanilla, vanilla, coconut, lemon curd and so much more in 500g pots. Here I’ve found vanilla, honey and blueberry in 350g pots.
6) Even in the winter when the snowstorms came, there were many non-coniferous trees that remained green. I cannot begin to explain how jarring the sight of such vibrant greenery amongst white snow is when you’re used to winter being a sea of brown and grey.
7) Cars actually stop to let you cross the road. Even if they’re turning into a side-road or at a junction, they stop for you to cross, holding up traffic. In the UK, you would annoy a lot of drivers if you started crossing a junction they were turning into.
8) Squat toilets. They’re not just a thing; they’re a commonplace thing and almost every public toilet seems to have at least one. I’ve never seen anyone opt to use one (apparently it’s easier for pregnant women though)
9) When the emergency services are called, they really show up. My neighbour left her keys in her door, someone called the police, two of them waited for her to return home. That same neighbour accidentally used a dish that wasn’t heat-resistant in the microwave and while there was no fire, there was a bit of smoke. Three fire trucks showed up, as well as police. Not a chance anything like that would happen in the UK.
10) You’re not supposed to thank the cashier after buying something; you’re supposed to just bow and leave. I cannot do this; I am culturally conditioned to thank cashiers and find myself doing it anyway.
11) 99% of (non-sliding) doors open outwards. In the UK, the opposite is true. I assume this is because, in the event of an earthquake causing structural damage, it’s much easier to barge your way out of a door when it opens outwards. In the UK, we’re more worried about people breaking in, and so doors open inwards such that we can barricade them (or so I’m told).
12) There are differences between some fruits and vegetables here. Cucumbers are tiny green wrinkled things that look like alien fingers. Radishes are enormous white monstrosities. Spinach is rarely baby leaf. Pumpkins are green. Sweet potatoes are white inside.
13) There’s not much in the way of caramel or salted caramel, but strawberry-flavoured things (especially chocolate) is very common (as is macha flavour). Things that are caramel flavour are more like burnt toffee flavour.
14) People wear coats when it’s 25ºC outside because apparently that’s not warm for them.
15) Convenience stores have printers that you’re welcome to use any time. You have to pay, of course, but for A4 paper it’s 10 yen per black and white page or 50 yen per coloured page, which is basically nothing. You can also print out things on A3, B4 and B5 paper, as well as photographs and postcards.
16) The stairwell for blocks of flats is typically outside, and then you walk along a walkway outside to get to the door. You don’t typically go into a block of flats. The opposite is true in the UK: you have to go into the building (which is typically locked, so you have to buzz the flat of the person you’re visiting and they’ll open it electronically for you from their flat) and then go up the stairs inside.
17) Bread is not sold with the end slices. It’s also usually sold in loaves of 6-8 slices, all of which are thick-cut and much sweeter than English bread. Typically only white bread is available.
18) Vending machines crop up everywhere in the seemingly most random places. I stg if Erebor were in Japan in the years of Smaug, it would have a well-stocked and fully functioning vending machine.
19) There’s no such thing as pepsi max, although there is pepsi zero. Typically you can’t get pepsi zero from the convenience store (although you can get coke zero) and have to go to the supermarket, but it costs like half the price of coke zero if you can be bothered to make the journey.
20) There are cars/vans with megaphones that just drive around advertising things. One time one passed us by and I asked my friend what the deal was and he said “oh, it’s advertising gas”. They’re also used in election campaigns. I’m still confused by these things.
21) Exposing your bare shoulders is a no-no. Even when it’s 35ºC with 90% humidity, people wear tops with sleeves that cover their shoulders (some even wear long sleeves to stop them from getting a tan). It’s okay if you’re going out on the town, but not as everyday wear.
22) “Milk” and “butter” are flavours. Personally, I think it’s redundant to describe cream as “milk-flavoured” or cake as “butter flavoured”, but it would seem Japanese people disagree.
23) Cash is still used everywhere. I pay my bills at the convenience store in cash.
24) Prices of produce are REALLY volatile. One day you pay 88 yen for a tomato. The next day that same tomato - now slightly mankier thanks to being a day older - is 198 yen. Two days later tomatoes are 98 yen. The next week they’re 128 yen.
25) Shoes off! In the classroom, at the doctor’s, at the office etc, shoes come off at the door and you change into provided slippers. This is now so deeply ingrained in me that I feel uncomfortable when my UK friends send me pictures/videos and they’re wearing shoes inside.

Absolutely am feral for all your hardshine. Anything about them post Hardwon’s return in C3 or sometime in the 200 years between C1 and C3?
Oh, thank you! To do a slightly shameless plug, the last chapter of part 2 and part 3 of this series are specifically what could happen post-reunion.
Between campaigns:
As they travel Bahumia, helping repairs in the aftermath of the cataclysm, people they meet keep assuming they’re married. It’s never said to both of them at the same time. Hardwon’s at a bar, ordering more drinks, and the bartender says “I think your wife is looking for you”, and Hardwon turns to see Moonshine scanning the dance floor for him, inviting him over as soon as she catches his eye. Moonshine is buying food for an upcoming trip in the Stormborn, and the cashier says “Your husband is about to topple an orange pyramid and get crushed” so Moonshine sends PawPaw over to stabilize the display. What they don’t do, when this happens, is correct the speaker. Ever.
I’ve mentioned this before, but i do think they co-parent Big Bev. He considers them both to be his parents. I don’t think surnames are all too popular or necessary in the Crick, but they tend to use them for official business, especially since they have to be more organized given the current political situation in the Living Wood. Ranger captains all choose their own last name for business, and Cybin is off the table, since about 80% of them are or consider themselves Cybins. For official purposes, Big Bev is a Surefoot.
They get into a hotly contested debate over who will get to be Bev’s best man at his wedding. It’s one of the biggest “arguments” they ever have, and no one else in the world would actually consider it an argument. In the end, Bev asks them both, they share the role beautifully, and their speech causes so many tears that the other speeches are delayed by 10 minutes so people can regroup. They also dance every dance of the night together.
Often, they go out and wingman each other. When they do, they gas each other up so much, and regroup for confidence every couple hours. Anyone they’re trying to hook up with sees this, and assumes (correctly) that the two of them are in love. More often than not, they end up going back to the ship together. But they might be happier that way.
Post-Reunion:
If you have read this fic of mine, you may have noticed that Hardwon grabs Moonshine’s hand when he finishes hugging her hello. He doesn’t actually let go of it for 2 hours. She doesn’t mind. Winch, upon meeting Moonshine and Bev, also assumes that Moonshine and Hardwon are married, or at least have been together for a while. He does not bring this assumption up with anyone, but is happy for them. A bit sad it was left out of the books he read about them, because it would have made them more interesting.
Bev is very much over their bullshit at this point, and is at any point minutes away from casting Zone of Truth and locking them in a closet. Erlin keeps stopping him, but it’s getting harder every day.
“Hardwon Surefoot: Small Folk, Big Fuck” makes its way to the Astral Plane much faster than anyone could have anticipated. Lucanus actually hears it first, and sends a singing telegram to their house in Gladeholm so they all hear it right away (he’s gotten into pranks recently). Moonshine laughs so hard at the words that she nearly falls over. And, perhaps, it finally does lead them to have a discussion they’ve successfully put off for two centuries.

Lessons in Honesty Part 6
steve harrington x reader
Chapter 6: Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)
– other chapters: part 1 ⋆ part 2 ⋆ part 3 ⋆ part 4 ⋆ part 5  ⋆ part 6 ⋆ part 7 ⋆ part 8
– series synopsis: Being Robin Buckley’s younger sibling had always been uneventful, up until she got herself tangled with Steve Harrington. And really, you were happy for her. She deserved friends. What was bothersome was when he got let in on small secrets like your infatuation with Eddie Munson, and decided to take it into his own hands to try and get him to pay attention to you-- by pretending to be your boyfriend.
– notes: hello friends!! this is sort of a two-parter chapter. the next update should hopefully be posted soon to follow it up. very excited about it. i love being self-indulgent. enjoy!
read here or on ao3 _____________________________
You dreamt about Steve Harrington.
The catch was it wasn't one of your typical dreams— the nonsensical streams of the unconscious where your mom is also somehow your high school principal and scenarios change from frustrating cyclical conversations to apocalyptic horror to standing in line trying to buy a bunch of bananas that all of a sudden turn into rotted oranges the moment you get to the cashier. They made sense while you were in them, but the moment you woke up, you could only grab onto small strange pieces for so long before they started to vanish throughout the day and were gone entirely by the time your head hit the pillow to dream once more.
You were having trouble forgetting this dream. It clung to you like a ghost burrowing into your skin, its memories and experiences becoming one your body could recognize, but not your mind. The dream played over and over in your head despite your attempts to try and shove it away. Steve's face had been so close for so long that you could point to the exact spots his beauty marks were on your own skin with absolute familiarity. You could feel the warmth of him being pressed so close to you. You could feel the phantom touch of his hands lightly grazing the sides of your body, his fingertips pushing up the hem of your shirt. You could still hear the soft noises he made in the back of his throat as his lips greedily pressed against yours.
You hadn't just dreamt about Steve Harrington. You'd had a sex dream about Steve Harrington.
Or at least, it would have developed into one if Robin hadn't started pounding at your door and woke you up before dream clothes had the chance to be shed.
You were thankful she had. Really. Even if your ghost-possessed body didn't believe it at the time.
As payment for Robin not telling your parents what had happened the night before, she demanded that you take the turn of doing the Saturday morning gardening so she could continue to sleep in. You weren't a fool. Of course, you would do it. It was, realistically, a pretty small ask for her secrecy. Unfortunately, within that trade, you wondered if it also meant you lost out on hearing what exact words had been exchanged by Robin and Steve the night prior. She made no mention of it to you, and when you had pounded on her door to talk about it after she had made her way back to bed, you got no reply.
But was there really any reason for concern? If she didn't say anything, that probably meant all was well. Even so, wasn't the whole point of hanging out with Steve to make her suspicious? It would help in your favour in the long run.
It only came at the cost of the strange moment you shared in the bathroom replaying in your head on a constant and unrelenting loop.
And the sex dream. Couldn't forget about that little issue.
You hadn't even begun to process why the dream had happened-- not what it could have meant, not about how this was the first dream you've had of its type. You'd never even dreamt about Eddie that way. But now that you were alone, such questions consumed your thoughts. You didn't think about Steve that way. The dream must have been a product of your banged-up head and close proximity to him for most of the night. Especially in that bathroom.
'You really think that's true?'
Gah! Why did he have to say it like that? So quiet and… revealing. And so close. Those words of his must have been what haunted you. The last part of your conversation replayed in your dream, including your breathy and quiet response of 'I do.' Seriously, what did you think you were doing? Swearing a marriage vow to the guy? It was like your treacherous brain was trying to make up the gap of what it thought would have happened if Robin hadn't busted in there when she had.
"Idiot! Idiot, idiot, idiot!" You chastised yourself in a sharp muttered intake of breath. If you didn't have the watering hose in your hand, you would have smacked yourself on the head to make those intrusive thoughts disappear.
"What'd those flowers ever do to you, Pip?"
Turning around with a sudden jump at the voice crooning in your ear behind you, the hose that had been pointed at the rose bush found a new target as it sprayed all over Eddie and his poor unsuspecting shirt.
"I'm sorry!" you sputtered out, the grip you had on the hose releasing to drop the offending object on the ground. When the hell did he show up? Why was he here? God, if you had passed out face down in the dirt outside and this was another stupid dream, you were going to—
"If you wanted me to take my shirt off, all you had to do was ask," Eddie laughed as he peeled the clinging black fabric of his Iron Maiden shirt off of his stomach, lifting it up slightly to ring the material out.
Yep. Definitely another dream.
You might have stood there gaping for a little longer than necessary, but hey, your brain hadn't totally caught up with what was happening. All it took was for Eddie to lift a brow in question for you to give a slight shake of your head and snap out of it. "What are you doing here?" You questioned, already scrambling away a few steps back to twist the water tap off.
Eddie followed behind you as he spoke. "Y'know, just wanted to check to make sure you didn't die in Harrington's car."
Turning back around, still not totally registering everything as reality, you offered a very eloquent, "huh?"
Eddie's head gave a slight tilt in return, a smile still on his face but frozen more in confusion than actual amusement. Not that you blamed him. You were usually a lot more… quippy. "Was your head injury that bad you already forgot it happened?"
Oh, right. Eddie was making sure you hadn't bled out in Steve's car. At least now you were starting to catch up.
"If I tell you that it was, are you more likely to pretend all that embarrassing stuff never actually happened?" You asked with a sheepish kind of smile.
Eddie laughed. "Sure, though you're pretty adorable when you're embarrassed."
Somebody pinch you. Or punch you. Yeah, a punch would suffice in waking yourself up. What the hell was happening?
Eddie took the cue of your flustered silence to keep speaking. "But seriously, I wanted to stop by and see how you are. I feel terrible about the shit that happened yesterday. The owner assured me the guy would be barred for at least six months. If it were up to me, I'd never let him back in, but I imagine he makes up half their monthly revenue in shitty beer sales alone."
That had you given an unamused laugh in return. "I can imagine. He smelled like he bathed in it." Though, he definitely didn't look like he bathed at all.
Nodding your head toward your front yard from where you currently stood at the side of your house, you led Eddie towards your front porch as you continued, "It's fine. I mean, I would rather it hadn't happened, but I'm still glad I went." You sat in one of the chairs while Eddie leaned against the railing, peering down at you. You could spot his car in the driveway from the corner of your eye. How lost in thought were you that you never even heard it pull up? Speaking of— "how do you know where I live, anyway?" You questioned curiously. He'd never been over here, and it's not like you would have had a reason to mention it.
"Worried I'm stalking you, Pip?" He teasingly asked, the corner of his mouth quirked up in a prodding smile. A single laugh fell out before you could stop it. "No," you replied, "I think I'd have noticed that." You tried to keep your tone light despite it being the absolute truth. No need for him to know just how much you noticed him on a day-to-day basis.
Eddie looked contemplative enough that it struck a nervous cord in you. Thankfully, he pushed the joking aside. "Henderson told me awhile ago. He even offered to draw me a map if I ever needed it."
Yeah, that sounded like the little brat. All too accommodating. You would need to talk to Dustin about that conversation in the car the previous night and the importance of him keeping his assumptions and plans to himself.
"Ah," you hummed with a nod. "I hope you took him up on that. I don't pay him for nothing."
Eddie's smile stretched a bit further at the joke, but something about his calculating expression had you wondering if maybe you were missing something. "You sure you're okay?" Eddie asked, the question popping out of him as he stood a little straighter, moving now to sit in the chair next to you. Having him at eye level made you feel more raw. Were you okay? You had a headache, sure, but really the injury itself wasn't what was bothering you. You knew were you a little… lower energy than you usually were. But your thoughts were still somewhere else, lingering on a boy you had no reason to linger on. You liked Eddie, not Steve. Your brain was just playing catch up still from waking up from that ridiculous dream.
You smiled to play off the quiet seriousness of the moment. "I'm okay. Really," you assured Eddie. "Just didn't get a lot of sleep."
You weren't sure if Eddie believed what you said, but he was kind enough to pretend he did. "Alright." Lifting his hand to ruffle your hair in that strange habit of his. You ducked your head away with a small laugh, giving a gentle warning of, "Hey, it's still a head injury."
He grinned back as he retracted his hand. "You know, I was kind of surprised you came last night," he offered out of the blue. It caught you by surprise.
"Really?" You asked, your eyes a bit big as you tried to get a better read on his face. He said it casually, his face still showcasing its usual warmth. But there was something else there. You just couldn't get a read on it. Almost like a tightness. "I've always wanted to watch you guys play, but I thought it would be weird if I just showed up," you admitted, though it was more complicated than that. Part of you believed if you'd had done that, you'd come across as some weird groupie who might as well have yelled their love for him in his face. Also, it wasn't something you'd really want to go to alone. Robin would have never taken you, and other than her, you didn't really have any friends. But now you had Steve.
"Really?" He reflected your statement back at you, pulling his head back with a smile, his certain playfulness still there but mixed in with genuine surprise. "I just thought—" he paused for a moment, debating saying what was on the tip of his tongue. "I always assumed you didn't like me all that much."
Now that caught you like a hand to the throat.
"What?" you sputtered out, leaning closer to him as your hand gripped the sides of your chair in utter shock.
Eddie's hand reached out and landed on yours in a placating gesture. You didn't even think he had realized he had done it. "Woah, woah—" he laughed out at your reaction, "no offence meant! I mean, I'd get it. I'd be disappointed, but I'd get it. I was pretty pushy with you when we first met. You get along well with the other guys, but I dunno. You feel distant from me, Pip."
You still couldn't speak. Is that what he thought this whole time? That you didn't like him even as a friend? You really were an idiot. Yes, you had maybe put a bit of distance from you and Eddie, but that's because it felt safer that way. No way he would know of your long-standing crush if you played aloof. But were you really that shut off from him that he had absolutely no clue?
"Eddie, that's not it at all. I think I like you too much," you blurted out, not even thinking about the implications of your words. All you wanted at that moment was to prove what he'd thought was wrong.
Now that really seemed to get his attention. You felt his hand still placed on top of yours flex in an involuntary movement. "What does that mean?" He questioned, voice level with no hint of his earlier safe playfulness.
You never got the chance to reply, not that you would have known what to say.
Your attention was drawn away from Eddie when you heard the crunch of gravel on the street. Eddie's gaze took a few more seconds to slip away from you before it followed your line of sight. "What the hell?" you murmured, standing up and moving over to the porch railing. It was definitely Steve's car. As two other bodies climbed out of the car before him, he honked his horn as if he didn't already have your attention.
Dustin and Nancy?
"Pip, Eddie!" Dustin called over, already doing a half jog up your steps. He stood in front of you with a slightly panicked look. Alarm bells went off in your head. Eddie turned to look at you with equal amounts of confusion and concern. You put a hand on Dustin's shoulders, eyebrows creased as you questioned, "Hey, slow down. What's going on?"
"It's Mike and Lucas," Dustin breathed out with a fearful look in his eyes. Your heart dropped, and the alarm bells turned into a roaring siren in your ears.
"They're lost somewhere in the woods."
The sirens dimmed immediately into an annoying fly buzzing around your head you couldn't swat away. But know what you could swat?
You flicked Dustin on the forehead. "They're lost in the woods? Are you kidding me? You had me thinking they'd been kidnapped or something!" You breathed out in aggravation, hands moving to your hips as Eddie visibly relaxed beside you as well.
"I think those boy scouts can handle themselves, Henderson. How long they've been gone?"
"All night," Dustin snapped, rubbing a hand across his forehead and giving you a reproachful look.
Shit. That wasn't good.
With immediate guilt, you moved your hand to pat Dustin on the shoulder and muttered an embarrassed, "I take back the flick." Dustin gave you a dead-panned, unamused stare as he pushed your hand away with a monotone, "thanks."
As Nancy and Steve stepped up on the patio, their faces showing similar concern, you asked, "what were they doing out there?" Robin made her own entrance when the front door opened, and she joined the party while jumping up on one foot as she tried to get one of her ratty brown bunny slippers on. You'd left the door open but the screen door shut to air out the stifling house. She must have heard most of the conversation because there wasn't any confusion on her face.
"After you and Steve dropped me off at home last night, Mike and I decided to spend the night at Lucas's. I'd heard about this abandoned cabin the other day from some people at school and thought it would be cool to check it out." Cool? Sure. Stupid? Absolutely. You kept that to yourself, however. "We searched for it together for a while, but eventually, we figured it would be easier to split apart. We had our walkies, but Mike and Lucas both stopped replying. I've been looking for three hours, but I haven't seen either of them since."
Well, fuck. That wasn't good. Not at all.
"Never split from your party, Henderson," Eddie chastised Dustin, running a stressed-out hand through his curly hair.
Steve broke into the conversation before tensions got too high. "Dustin showed up at Nance's to see if Mike had come home. I figured if we all helped to look, we'd be able to cover more ground in the daylight." He looked between you and Eddie for a moment as if debating saying something, but whatever it was, he kept it to himself.
Wish you could have said the same about the next thing that popped out of your mouth.
"You were at Nancy's this morning?" The question fell from your lips before you knew you would ask it. Robin elbowed you discreetly in your side, and Steve's eyes widened just a fraction. He quickly covered it up. "Yeah, yeah, just uh, talking," Steve mumbled.
Dustin butted in before you could overthink why the hell you'd said that. "Look, we don't have time to chat!" Always the commanding one, he was. "Before Mike went radio silent, he said he thought he saw something. I'm worried he found the cabin, but it collapsed or something. We have to go. Now."
"Have you called the police, kid?" Eddie cut in, a voice of reason you weren't expecting.
"All the cops would do is stop us from looking ourselves. They probably won't even believe they're lost. Ever since Hop died, those other guys are useless." Dustin sounded pretty serious about that. It made sense, in a way. Things had definitely shifted a lot since that mall fire. You knew those other guys had a relationship Hop, after all that strange stuff that had gone on with Will Byers. Hop was the one who believed them that he wasn't really dead, not the other police guys. You could understand their lack of trust with how some things panned out.
"We'll split up, okay? If there are three groups of us, each of us can enter the forest at different points and try and meet in the middle," Nancy suggested. The nervous pit in your stomach continued to grow.
Robin finally jumped into the conversation, ready and willing to do whatever. Turning to you, she said, "you and Steve go together. Eddie can take Dustin, and then Nancy can drive us in Dad's car to the nearest entry point," Robin suggested.
You nodded your head as Dustin's mouth gaped open for a second, his eyes flashing with a moment of strange alarm. "I figured Pip and Eddie could go together, and then Steve and I could," he retorted back on a weak sort of argument.
Robin lifted a singular curved brow, crossing her arms over her chest as she gave a small laugh. "And what, separate the two love birds?" she asked, moving her hand to point between you and Steve.
You thought your eyes were about to bulge out of your head as Eddie and Nancy replied with an oddly harmonized, "what?"
Robin snorted. "My kid sibling and Steve are dating. You guys didn't know?" she smugly said, though something else was written on her face. Something you caught and made you immediately suspicious.
Too bad you couldn't call her out on it. Steve's hand latched onto your arm as he pulled you away to his car, giving you a stressed-out sounding whisper of, "we'll talk about it on the way."
Well, this day couldn't get any worse. __________ tag list: @rexorangecouny @simonsbluee @felicityofbakerstreet @heytherejulietx @ohashley101 @youngflower @katsukiwrld @ramona-thorns @theblairwaldorf2 @fezco-mylove @hxrgreeves @jbcalway @heizenka @edenstarkk @greekktragedy @trishiepo0 @nonpoppin @bimboshaggy @scoobiessnacks @spideyycents

Title: Unready Author: @aurorawest Rating: M (language, sexual content) Relationships: Loki & Stephen Strange, Loki & Thor, Jane Foster & Loki, Jane Foster/Thor, Loki/Stephen Strange Major Archive Warnings: Creator Chose Not to Use Archive Warnings Word Count: 23.7k Summary: It's wedding day in New Asgard!
Thor and Jane are tying the knot and the entire village of New Asgard is turning out for the occasion—along with Avengers, Guardians, Masters of the Mystic Arts, and that one cashier at the Spar in Tønsberg whom Thor always chats with. It's going to be the perfect day, at least if Loki has anything to say about it (he does). No one deserves happiness more than Thor.
And if watching Thor marrying Jane stirs up feelings for Loki—loneliness, and yearning, and a wish for something that can never happen—well, he'll push that aside like he always does. He could never have what Thor and Jane have. He especially could never have it with Stephen Strange.
Thank you to my betas, @mareebird and AsgardianHarmony!
Chapter 7, Someone Else's Universe, is posted!
The little house at the top of the lane was quiet too. Loki still let himself in softly, too used to the presence of another person to let the door clatter shut. Jane had moved her things in, and boxes were piled in the porch and in Thor’s room, waiting for their return from their honeymoon to be unpacked. It was the first time Loki had been in this house without Thor. He had never slept here by himself. Thor had always been in the room down the hall. Loki flicked on the lights. The living room blazed with light. It seemed harsh, somehow. It seemed…hard. Antiseptic. Empty.

Ashton took a deep breath before he opened the bookshop’s door, hearing the bell above his head ding. He could feel his heart beating like it was going to fall out of his chest at any moment, but he knew he could do this – he had to do this. He’d been hyping himself up for the past four months to come back into this shop and confront you about your mixtape. He hadn’t been able to think about anything other than that damn CD – that you were telling him you still loved him.
He looked around the small shop, unable to see or hear anyone around – not a cashier, not someone stocking shelves, not anyone greeting him as he entered... It was like the store was empty. He decided he’d use the opportunity of no patrons being around to find you – at least no one would be around to hear you reject him for practically ghosting you for four months.
He began walking toward the back of the shop – the only place anyone could feasibly be if they hadn’t heard someone enter – but he stopped when he heard people talking. He listened carefully upon hearing your voice, quietly making his way toward his favorite sound, and stopping at the end of the aisle of books just before he’d been spotted.
“How can he think I’m happy?” he heard you sniffle, peeking above the books to see you roughly wiping your eyes with the heel of your hand, “I’ve been miserable since the day he broke up with me and he thinks I’m happy?”
“Y/N,” your co-worker sighed, “Maybe he’s just trying to cope too. You didn’t leave that CD for nothing, did you?”
“That was months ago,” you mumbled, “If he’s listened to it, he would have said so by now. He hasn’t even come into the store since then. It probably scared him away.”
“He’s probably trying to figure out how,” she assured you, “It took you a couple weeks to come up with the idea for the CD, didn’t it? I’m sure he’s just trying to come up with an idea for a response.”
“He probably thinks I’m too clingy – that I’m too hung up on the past and am begging for him back...” you whispered, more to yourself than to Corrine, “He already broke up with me for being too much to deal with the first time around... Why would he wanna deal with this trainwreck again?”
And Ashton, finally having enough of you berating yourself, couldn’t keep himself quiet anymore.
“Because that ‘trainwreck’ is the best thing that ever happened to me!” he said angrily, making you jump when he popped out from around the corner, “And I’m not about to stand here and listen to her convince herself that I don’t love her anymore!”
Corrine rolled her eyes – took him long enough to speak up – before plucking the books out of your hands and taking the cart to finish working so you and Ashton could have a moment alone.
“A-Ashton!” you squeaked, quickly wiping the rest of your tears off of your cheeks, “What- What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to talk about that CD you left me,” he stated bluntly to keep you from avoiding it.
“You... You listened to it...?” you murmured, surprising him.
“I mean... Yeah,” he nodded, “You put it there for me to listen to, didn’t you?”
“I just... I didn’t think you did...” you admitted, keeping your gaze on your feet, “Been a while since you’ve come in here...”
“Well, uh...” he cleared his throat nervously, “Corrine wasn’t wrong when she said I’ve been trying to think of something to say.”
“I’m just- I heard you and your friend talking before... I don’t- didn’t...know you thought I was happier... I guess I just thought... You know I’m not good at talking about my feelings... I thought that would be easier... M’sorry if it made you uncomfortable...”
“Uncomfortable?” he furrowed his eyebrows, “Why would it make me uncomfortable?”
“I’m- I dunno,” you shrugged lightly, “Jus’ haven’t seen you around since then, I guess...”
“You didn’t make me uncomfortable,” he shook his head, “I never expected you to still want me is all. Those songs you picked... That was a lot for me to hear all at once.”
“M’sorry...” you repeated in a whisper.
“You have nothing to be sorry for, Y/N,” he assured you, “I know talking about how you’re feeling is difficult for you. I’m proud of you for trying anything at all.”
He saw the corner of your mouth twitch, making him barely smile as well. He watched you for a moment longer, finally realizing you hadn’t looked away from the floor.
“Hey, Y/N?” Ashton said softly, “Look at me? Please?” You barely shook your head. “Why not?” he furrowed his eyebrows again – had he done something wrong already? But, as you swallowed the lump in your throat, he could have never prepared himself for your reply.
“If I look at you again, I won’t be able to stop myself from kissing you,” you confessed so lowly, he almost didn’t hear you. But when his brain finally processed your words – when he actually realized what you were telling him – he couldn’t keep himself from smiling.
“I wouldn’t tell you to stop if you did,” he promised.
You tried to slyly wipe your face again, but Ashton took your hand and pulled it back down. He then put his hands on your cheeks and lifted your head up. Your eyes finally met his, and he could tell how hard you were trying not to start crying in front of him.
“You are my favorite person in the entire world,” he whispered, swiping his thumbs underneath your eyes, “You know that, right?”
“St-Still?” your bottom lip quivered slightly, your heart racing when he smiled at you.
“Forever,” he promised, smiling even wider when you wasted no more time in kissing him.

Hello! I hope your day is going well! I’d like to request a BSD matchup and…I apologize in advance for the chaos of the order the information is in.
I’m a 5’4” 1/16th Russian, 1/8th Asian Caucasian female and I’m 18 years old. I’m an ISTP I’m generally pretty energetic, but not overbearing energetic and I only fall asleep when my eyelids tell me to (unless I have homework due for a class I’m falling behind in the next day) and I’m not one to leave my dorm unless I need to eat or go to class or meet my friends/family. I take responsibility if I know no one else is going to do it in a messy organized way. I’m easily taken advantage of because of my naivety and gullibility. I act like I know more about death, murder, and dark things like that when really, I’m too weak to actually hurt a fly, I’m just skin and bones. I’m very prone to mental breakdowns over the smallest things a friend might say. I love to write stories, read manga, and watch anime. I’m not good at arguing my points, but I can make people addicted to things I’m obsessed with. If I become interested in something, I become obsessed with it, so I have read the light novels, Beast AU, seen the entire series twice and Dead Apple. I don’t mind spoilers though. I love making new OCs for different shows (but I’m EXCESSIVELY SADISTIC about it) and I love to read Yandere!Reader, Suicidal!Reader, Depressed!Reader, and [other anime character]!Reader, Character x Readers to soothe my depressive tendencies. I have severe epilepsy that’s near incurable and the most dangerous seizures happen in my sleep 1-2 times a month, consciously 1 day out the year, but I’ll have like 2-3 of them in intervals and these seizures can risk me suffocating if not treated properly. my grades are mostly A’s and B’s except for a couple classes with D’s. I eat like one or two meals a day (sometimes none because of medication) and when I do, it’s like two pieces of pizza or a tiny bowl of alfredo pasta, so I’m really skinny and light. I have slight acne, but it’s not too noticeable. I can be self-conscious and have depressive (sometimes suicidal) tendencies because I get into my own head, and I have undiagnosed ADD. I rarely use social media unless it’s necessary for school or long-distance communication. I work at a convenience store and I’ve mastered pizza making, cashiering, donut frosting, sandwich making, and coffee making because of it. I just adore that industry and especially the political area of it even though I ignore politics outside of the convenience industry. I’ve always been prone to crushing on villains in shows or manipulative/sadistic/intelligent characters, though I have made an exception for Chuuya because let’s be real, he’s had more hero-like roles than villain-like roles.
You are match up with...
Dazai!
Tumblr media
-He also makes sure you eat at least enough - he understands what it is like to not be able to feel like eating and doesn't want you to have that habit.
-He already knows how naïve you could be.
-So he will help you by making sure you don't waste your breath on people who want to take advantage.
-Like even though he is suicidal himself, he doesn't want you to mentally suffer that badly, so he will comfort you by physical contact and gifts.
-He is protective of you, so he doesn't want you to end up in hospital for something he could have prevented, so he makes sure no light flashes near you
-In his opinion, suicide shouldn't be painful, and that is a toll. It should be enjoyable when you do it with him.
-Wants to make pizzas etc with you, you made it sound so fun.

Monkie kid oc Vick!
Tumblr media
• Name: Vick
• Age: 24
• Gender/pronouns: Female she/her
• Goal: To get as strong as her mentor.
• Relationships: She cut off her family after deciding it was too much of a toxic environment her relationship with Macaque is platonic him being a father figure while Mei and Mk became her bff’s meanwhile she has a crush on a certain red boy.
• Role: Macaques student.
• Job: Waitress.
• Past work: Average store cashier.
• Personality: Very outgoing and tends to make sure whatever plans she has gets finished as fast as possible her humor mostly is sarcasm but she is also a bit of a trickster pulling pranks, she has a habit on always having some sort of blackmail, whenever she’s on the battlefield she’s very focused unless she is absolutely sure she has the upper hand she can get confident and cocky and now thanks to Macaque’s amazing theater teachings she likes to act in many many ways often switching from a scared unknowing bystander to mean ruthless villain in a dime.
• Home life: She keeps her apartment tidy enough it’s not completely clean but not too messy after she gets back from work or training she immediately cleans herself up , feed the stray cats outside, make dinner and lay in bed watching any sort of YouTube videos while eating.
• Work life: She keeps to herself mostly not really interested in befriending anyone who comes or works in the casino she zones out following her usual routine and premade lines for the customers she’s very indifferent about work as long as they pay well then it’s whatever.
• Origin story: She moved away from Australia to Megapolis to have a fresh start later she began being mentored by Macaque at first she was a test for his plan against Mk but he ended up taking it seriously and officially began trained her and building a bond (slowly) after the fight with Mk Macaque tasked her to “befriend” Mk to spy on him she was worried she might get to attached to Mk but Macaque told her to ditch of she felt like she was getting any feelings.
So around season 2 Vick befriended Mk and Mei she mostly stood in the background and didn’t mess with the adventures she ended up getting a long with Pigsy and while that was happening she updated Macaque on what’s happening with Mk at the shadow play episode is where Macaque revealed to Mk that Vick was spying on him and the three fought a little.
Outside Macaque told Vick to head home and rest up and he went to get the lantern (we all know what happened there)
But skip to season 3 and Vick teamed with Mk to defeat Lady bone demon while it took a while they soon got along again after a deep talk and apologies Vick mostly keeping her interactions with Wukong very short during the journey but they get on good terms later mostly just annoying eachother.
• How she sees herself: She always sees herself strong and mostly independent but during bad days or something went bad she sees herself as a failure or mistake that mostly stems from her childhood.
• Character Inspiration: Mae Borowski (Night in the woods) Rika Kawai (Wonder egg priority) Asuka (Eveangelion)
• Fun fact: She cuts her own hair and feeds all the local stray cats outside her apartment (Unfortunately pets aren't allowed)
•Fighting style/J: F*ck it we ball.
Quotes/lines:
“It’s kinda funny but whenever we plan on getting into a battle Macaque makes me wear something purple I dunno something about matching aesthetics? he’s so theatrical”
“What’s so wrong with my hair? I like the messy look at least it’s not constantly everywhere plus I don’t have time to go to a barber”
“Where are those two idiots?”
“None of what I felt the time we spent together was fake I know this will never make up for what I did but I am really sorry…”
“I managed to kick your ass once I think I can do it again!”
“Done being all brooding yet or we’re just gonna stay on top of this roof?”
“We practiced this already like a million times! Why not go all out?”
“That’s a colorful vocabulary for someone who’s on camera do us a favor and smile”
“Alright drama queen got it”
“Crap did one of the cats sneak in?”
“Ah can we wrap this up? I don’t want to be late for work!”
“I’ve been pretty damn fine without help I think I can figure this all out on my own”

1. What was the last thing you had the urge to do? I wanted to try this trending coffee shop in UP that mainly had an al fresco area, but the rain got so bad that I ended up on the other side of campus and got food from this burger place instead. With the change of plans, I maximized my me time and had a solo ~picnic in my car while it rained outside :) I watched a couple episodes of Run BTS while eating my burger and fries.
2. Is there anyone you feel that takes you for granted? Fortunately I do not feel treated this way by anyone.
3. What is the last thing you had a craving for? Continued from who knows. Last Sunday? KOREAN FOOD. I haven’t had it in so long. But I’m planning to get some delivered tomorrow in time for when my sister and I watch the new In the Soop series :) I’m gonna get Korean fried chicken and gimbap, and I know Nina’s favorite is tteokbokki so I’ll get that too. 4. Do you ever read the comments on social media posts? Not always but sometimes I do wanna see the general reception to certain posts.
5. What was the last thing you felt like you wasted money on? I dunno. Maybe the extra burger I bought from ^ said burger place. The cashier didn’t have change for me but she said it would help if I bought one more item, which led me to buy an extra burger just to get it over with lol. There aren’t a lot of open spots in UP so I didn’t have other options; anyway, I ended up giving it to my mom when I got back home.
6. What’s the last thing you had stuck in your head? Beyoncé’s Break My Soul.
7. What was the last “good” thing to happen to you? Getting past the megabitch that was Level 758 on In the Seom. Hahahaha.
8. Last awkward situation you were in? Probably one of my work meetings wherein nobody really knew how to end the call. Those meetings with painfully long and awkward silences will sometimes happen lol and my teammates and I will typically poke fun at it within our own group chat.
9. Think of the last time you were sick – what were you sick with? I had a fever two weekends ago and it was a side effect of my booster shot. That was...a ridiculously uncomfortable experience. I didn’t just have the chills – I also felt like my skin and my entire body was glass and it hurt to move and it hurt the moment I slightly hit anything.
10. How do you think your life would change without social media? It would just be a little quieter; I wouldn’t call it boring, just quiet and uneventful. I go through social media hiatuses from time to time anyway so I have a pretty good idea of what it’s like.
11. What was the last thing you wanted to buy, but couldn’t afford? The loft bed I’ve been envisioning all year but just never pushes through, lol.
12. What is a recipe you’d like to try to make for yourself? My grandma’s kare-kare recipe, but I know mine will never come remotely close to the way she makes it.
13. What goes through your mind when you look back at old photographs of yourself? Happy that I’m no longer there knowing that mental health ate up most, if not all, my younger years.
14. What was the subject matter of the last email you sent? Ugh, idk man. It’s definitely work, but I don’t want to check/think about that right now just to answer this. 15. Would you say your emotions are fairly stable and predictable throughout a week’s time, or not so much? Yeah, for the most part. I’ll feel waves of sadness though, and it’s been happening more frequently these days; but I’ve been better at managing those moments.
16. Are you friends with your family members on any social media platforms? Yes. I don’t hesitate from unfriending if their opinions get too annoying though.
17. How do you get your news? Social media, and occasionally, the TV.
18. How often do you drive? At least once a week, for various reasons but mostly for work or errands.
19. If you had to go (back) to school and completely change your career path, what would you choose to study/pursue? History. But I’m also fine with my current degree (journalism).
20. Are there any TV shows you constantly quote or know almost every line to? I don’t quote Friends all that much but I do have so many episodes memorized.
21. What do you think about lizards? I don’t have a strong opinion on them.
22. Is there anything that people assume about you that isn’t true, and that you find very irritating? When surveys ask me about stuff that can only be answered by someone who lives in the US or on the other side of the world. Like questions about Thanksgiving, Walmart, winter, etc.
23. How would you rate your “detective” skills? Like on social media? Probably an 8. I’m pretty good, but Angela is so much better than I am lol she can find anyone in a matter of minutes.
24. Have you ever done consumer testing (testing products before they come out on the market)? If not, would you ever want to? Yeah. That’ll sometimes come out in my work, especially with accounts that involve food.
25. How do you feel if you are late arriving to meet someone? How about if someone is late meeting you? If it’s someone I don’t know all that well, I’d find it embarrassing. I’m usually late when meeting up with friends though – only because I know they’d end up being late too hahaha. Filipino time does that.

ugh girl i feel u with the job stuff. i work part time too and when i first started a little over 2 months ago i got at least 3 days a week and now im barely getting 1 day a week maybe 2 if i get lucky or get called in to cover a shift. i think they hired way too many people which is annoying af
i've been working at my job for like two almost three years now. and i swear recently they have been giving me more and more reason to quit, which is hilarious bc i'm their best worker, and that's not even a joke. every manager and co-worker i've had agree.
but it literally took them til last month to finally make me employee of the month....
and then when i started working freight there, bc originally i was a just a cashier/sales associate, they promised me a raise and never gave me it. i got one later, but it was still less than what they promised.
and then when all sales associates got a raise of a dollar, the managers acted as if we should be lucky we got one. like?????? i work harder than you and you STILL make more than me lmao
and what's funny is that they give me and my one freight co-worker extra hours any time there is any bc they know we are the best and also bc the other two ppl on our freight team are flaky and literally just quit this past week lol
so idk why they keep dicking me with these hours and act as if we don't have the time. they kept us on this schedule of tues/thurs since january. it's only been within the last 2-3 months that they will randomly throw me a bone and be like "you like working right? you like money right? come in and work saturday, the worst day ever to be in retail"
it's just... so annoying. if they cut my hours anymore, i won't qualify for my part-time benefits and if that happens, i'm fighting employees, managers, and customers in the parking lot lmaooo

Dear future self… January 7, 2024
This week has been pretty quiet honestly. I’ve been pet sitting Theo which has been alright. He’s sweet & cute but has no listening skills. His recall sucks so the parks haven’t been the best times, he also is high maintenance energy that it’s exhausting but I drop him off to his next sitter tmrw. I haven’t done too much this week. Been going to the dog park every day, reading a bit before bed & then watching shows. On Thursday at the dog park this guy was walking towards me & complimented my knights toque, when I looked up he was wearing a knights hat. I laughed & said wow there’s very few of us here what are the odds! & he started asking questions which sparked a continued conversation for at least half an hour. He was curious, inquisitive which was really nice. We were walking back to my car & he paused. I knew he was going to ask & we said it too & I laughed. I said it was refreshing talking to someone who showed genuine interest & curiosity & he thanked me for the compliment so we exchanged numbered. It was nice & he’s really sweet so we’ll see where that goes. I did tell him I just came out of a toxic relationship though so friendship was all I was looking for at this time.
I think it was two days after that Troy had texted me asking how I was feeling. We’ve had continued conversation through the week here & there but nothing big & then after Friday after midnight & I responded Saturday mid morning I haven’t heard back. But it’s fine. I’m not pushing it & I don’t want to force anything. I’m going to leave it to see if he’ll invite me or ask me to do something. Saturday morning I dropped Theo to day camp & went to the mountains with nova. Went to quarry park & did our usual walk & then took a different path towards grassi. It was really nice day, drive up & saw some other lakes that would be really nice in the summer. Steven dropped off some stuff later & then again I just read & watched shows. Very chill. I want this year to be more kind & giving. I mentioned giving compliments to lift people up but also I want to bless people too in ways. Before I drove out to Canmore I went to Starbucks & I paid for the persons order behind me. It felt really good. Made me happy. Then as I was driving out I prayed that God would open more doors like that for me. That he would put it on my heart to be able to bless people more wherever it was. I went to Walmart for groceries after coming back & the older lady behind me had asked the cashier
How much the reusable bags were as she needed some. I happened to have had 2 extra ones which I wasn’t sure how I only used 3 from my order but God lined it so perfectly & I gave them to her. She said she would pass that forward which was nice to hear. I giggled as I walked away, how only hours before I asked God to open more of those opportunities up. I didn’t want to go to church today but I did which I’m glad. It was a good service & the pastor talked about how we need to be cutting things off & not be dragging certain things into 2024. Whether that be relationships, emotional ties, physical items etc but we needed to be able to leave it behind & move forward. Really good & want I need to hear.
There’s a lot I want to leave in 2023. I really hope to do that this year as I move forward.

nightly ptv posting in random places until i see them live (123 days left!!) - not in the greatest place rn as this cold covid continues to fuck with me both physically and mentally so im gonna get really sappy and talk about how significant each album is to me cause i could write a whole essay on this. under cut cause this is gonna be long
collide with the sky was the album that got me into this band. one of my irl friends was reposting tiktoks about them, i heard the hell above transition and instantly ran to them for recommendations cause i was HOOKED. that night i think i listened to them for around 3 and a half hours straight, i think i went through the entirety of collide, selfish machines and afftd (im not sure if i finished afftd or if i looked at misadventures yet) and the only thing that stopped me from continuing the binge was a massive headache that came over me. hold on till may inspired two of my ocs as i imagined them taking the roles of both people in the song, their personalities and how that'd fit into an existing universe we (me and my friends) had. they're still the two ocs i think about the most since i connect them with ptv very often and - yknow, hyperfixation. fun fact: i timed the "im sorry but ive made up my mind" in bulls in the bronx to happen when it hit midnight on my birthday. no clue why, just thought it was cool ig
the jaws of life was the first album i owned physically, accidentally managing to acquire both the cd and the vinyl on my birthday (cd was spotted in hmv, vinyl was my grandma's gift. there's a certain cashier at that hmv that i think happened to be working that day who shares my music taste, they recommended my dad listen to them since he said he got the cd for me lmaoo) the songs on that album were the first ones my parents heard, as my dad's car has a cd player so i popped it in on the way back home. much later on due to some shenanigans involving a shitbox car thats best music source was cds and oh look ptv is the one band my mum didn't mind listening to and i had 2 of their cds (i'll talk about that later), it ended up becoming her favourite album of theirs so we'd very often listen to it on journeys even when she got her car back as it was one of the few things we shared taste wise after i took a dive bomb into rock/metal, so while its my least favourite in terms of songs as im writing this (i don't dislike them!! some of my faves are on there!!), im incredibly sentimental towards it regardless.
misadventures was the second album i owned physically, finding the cd buried in a local record shop (it has the acoustic bonuses on it!!), and i think i can sorta call it my favourite album of all time. almost every single song in that album has been put on loop at least once (i mean that very literally. every single one. except sambuka? idk, just wasn't in my head as much...) it was also involved in the shitbox car shenanigans which might have influenced my love for it too. the divine zero in particular had (and still has tbh) a strong chokehold on me, being a little too relatable for me as i was going through a very dark patch in life that im not sure is entirely over yet actually, though it at least feels like it might be. i still can't listen to that song only one time whenever it comes on, i have to replay it at least once. it was my top song on spotify and i barely even fucking use spotify. can you tell im normal about the divine zero?
tl;dr - ptv are cool. im normal about them. thumbs up emoji.
a flair for the dramatic and selfish machines, while not having a big long story behind them, have been incredibly important to me during The Cold Covid as their songs are the main ones im obsessed with currently. some noteworthy songs off them are she sings in the morning/yeah boy and doll face (ok this one's kinda silly: i found out people found the first song through osu which i hadn't played in ages and these two was some of the first plays i got in a very long time so i currently hold them very close. fun fact: i like rhythm games!), wonderless/chemical kids and mechanical brides (INCREDIBLY calming to me, go tos when i need to lower my energy levels), million dollar houses (very closely connected to one of the two hold on till may connected ocs) and fast times at clairemont high (ok it's just a banger to me. the high notes make me fucking feral and i listened to the song 10 times in a row once. oops)

Random observations on Japan
Maybe these are more applicable to Kyoto than the entirety of Japan, but here are some things I’ve observed:
1. Japanese people don’t say “sumimasen” often when they squeeze by you. And squeezing past people happens a lot more than in the US because of the compactness of the buses, supermarket aisles, school halls, etc. In the US, I’ll be walking on the sidewalk with headphones, and joggers or bikers coming up behind me will call out “on your right!” far before they get to me even if I’m not in their way.
Since you get off buses in the front, a lot of people will squeeze by you to scan their IC cards, and most people just... go ahead and do it without saying anything.
The exception are the staff at konbinis who say sumimasen multiple times if they accidentally cross paths with you. This makes me wonder if “sumimasen” is even the right word.
2. Escalators. Okay, so you’re supposed to stand on one side and the people in the hurry are supposed to “walk” up/down on the other side so... which side is it? Everyone stands on a different side. I’ve heard in the Kanto region they stand on the opposite side as in the Kansai region (where I am), and there are a lot of people who commute in Japan, so maybe that’s why
3. Paying for groceries.
This one is so strange to me, even though when I think about it, technically in the US we have a similar system. There is the conventional way of paying where the cashier rings up your purchases and you hand them the money directly. There is another way where the cashier rings up your purchases, but you pay through a machine, and then you take your groceries off to a table and bag them yourself (I’ve seen this at 7- eleven). And then, there’s the complete self check-out where you scan everything by yourself and pay through the machine.
4. Bagging groceries
When at konbini/supermarkets I find that cashiers rarely bag groceries for you; they’ll hand you the bag in your basket, and usher you off to an “island” where you bag everything yourself. They will usually wait idly as you’re fiddling with the card reader.
5. Japanese students in class
Here the Japanese students are supposed to take at least 2 courses in English as part of their undergrad curriculum which means there’s usually at least 2-3 Japanese students in my English-language classes but they are usually so, so quiet. I completely understand the fear of speaking up in a language you don’t understand too well, in a room full of foreigners.
Heck, I still struggle with anxiety even while my English is perfectly passable. There’s the gnawing dread of saying something potentially ignorant/stupid, and not knowing if other people will judge you.
But I have heard it’s more the fear of not speaking English well. It’s also that Japanese classes are lecture-based, and the teacher is supposed to enforce authority over the students by passing information one way down to the students. So thoughtless questions are thought to be rude because they take time away from the lecture. This makes me think that it must add an additional layer of consideration if students are encouraged to think to themselves if a question is “stupid”/thoughtless before asking.
You know how some teachers incentivize students to ask questions no matter how ignorant they may sound, in an attempt to get anyone in the class to say something? I feel like this self-filtering will not bode too well for participation...
We shall see. In 10 days, I’ll have spent a full month in Japan.

#unless of course i put my clown costume back on and apply for bakery jobs once i get to la which i have to admit im still considering#i mean. i don't THINK a cake decorator at an independent bakery would need to come in as early as a bread baker at a grocery store#but i also saw one ad for a cupcake froster that said 'fluctuating start time between 12 and 3 am' so. who knows#ofc that's basically just a graveyard shift which i think i would do okay with#like back when i did transcription that's pretty much when i would work#god i really do have the world's least impressive resume huh#there's my year in the bakery/three weeks as a cashier before i got promoted#then there's the month and a half of manufacturing i did at that job training center before it shut down bc covid#and then there's my three years of off-and-on freelance transcription work#which i could never have as an actual career bc i type w my two index fingers and can only do 40wpm#and the insane part is i literally know exactly what i want to do w my life i just have no idea how to make it happen#my plan is basically like. step 1: get to la. step 2: start working out again and lose those last 30 pounds. step 3: acting classes#step 4: ??????#like it's insane just how little thought i have put into this lmao but anyway i need something that will make me money so i can pay rent#and my one skill is that i kind of know how to decorate cakes#so.....not a lot to work with here. not a whole lot of options#god i would KILL for a chance to go back in time and get my ged sooner and actually go to college. i am literally gonna regret this for the#rest of my life#and yes it IS too late now yes it always has been no i don't accept constructive criticism yes i probably need therapy#anyway yay one more day at my current job and then i'm out! and next friday i'll be on my way to california!#also tomorrow will be 2 weeks since i got my second dose of moderna. shot girl summer babey

All I Ask ; Rafe Cameron (Part 2)
masterlist
#Part 2
#Part 1
Pairing: Rafe Cameron x reader
Summary: Reader finds herself in the arms of her best friend’s brother after finding her boyfriend cheating on her
Warnings: Swearing, cheating, hella angst, JJ being an extreme asshole
A/N: you guys are truly amazing. thank you so much for the countless amount of love & support for my last works, i love you!
p.s, my request box is always open! go ahead and drop any ideas bae
“Hey,” he said softly. “You’re okay?”
(Y/N) emitted a laugh, her eyes focusing on the road, but her mind was somewhere else. She cleared her throat, “Um, I don’t think so.”
“Want to talk about it?” he said, and she noticed the grogginess behind his voice. She felt bad now, knowing that she had woken him up, but she was desperate for someone.
She couldn’t go to the pogues; her only friends, not when they knew. They knew all along about Kie and JJ but they didn’t try to talk to her. She thought about Pope, how he had looked so nervous around her since a month ago and how she had thought of it as nothing more than anxiety for his new upcoming scholarship application.
(Y/N) groaned, tightening her fingers around the steering wheel. Why had she been so naive? Why couldn’t she realize the signs sooner?
“Are you okay?” Rafe asked, suddenly jolting up from his bed when he realized how quiet she has gotten. Ever since they got close 4 years ago, there was never a long silence between them as (Y/N) always has a random topic to discuss about. He would tell her that he doesn’t care, but he truly likes the new information she’ll give him.
Like how the word ‘who’ is the oldest English word in the world.
“Like, the owl?” he asked, scrunching his face. (Y/N) rolled her eyes, licking the slowly melting ice cream, and Rafe had a sudden thought of stealing her snack.
“No. God, you’re stupid. It’s who.”
“Yeah, the owl,” he grunted, thinking hard. (Y/N) looked at him with her bored eyes again, and Rafe took a quick glance at the dripping ice cream.
“No, Rafe, that’s woo. I’m talking about who.”
“You should write it.”
Rafe watched as she used her pointer to write the word ‘who’ on the table using her ice cream. Rafe laughed, finally understanding the joke, and he smiled wider when she returned a grin.
“No,” her voice croaked, and she could feel her tears slowly rolling down her red cheeks. God, she felt stupid. Why would she cry over stupid stuff like this? She had told Rafe before that she couldn’t understand why Bella Swan was too sad over Edward’s flight, saying how Bella had Jacob all along to help her get over him. Rafe rolled his eyes at this statement, muttering something along the words of ‘this is a movie’, ‘Edward is hotter’, and ‘Jacob look like that cashier guy at the hardware store’.
But she understood everything clearly now because she too, felt like staying in her room for the rest of her life.
“What happened? Do you need me to pick you up?” Rafe asked again, finally standing up from his bed and walking towards his bedside table to retrieve his car keys. He rubbed his eyes, still so tired, but he wanted to make sure she was safe.
“It’s alright, Rafe, you don’t have to pick me up, it’s just, um-” she took a deep breath, “Can I come over?”
Rafe stopped in his tracks, not sure if he had heard her right. He waited for a few seconds, “Huh?”
“Can I come over?” (Y/N) bit her lips, making a turn towards the road heading to Figure 8 from the Cut. The road was deserted, and she looked at the dashboard to check on the time.
2.43 a.m.
“Yeah, sure, um, when are you coming? I just have to wait for you, so you know the new passcode of the backdoor.”
“You guys changed it already?” she asked, and she was surprised to find a smile creeping onto her face. “When was the last time I came over? 2 months ago?”
“9,” Rafe muttered, “But it’s okay. I’ll wait for you, okay?”
“Okay,” she released a breath, “Thank you, Rafe.”
“Yeah,” was all he said before ending the line.
Maybe she did missed him.
When she arrived before the white building of the Camerons’ household, she could see a figure sitting on the front porch, bending over something that (Y/N) assumed to be a phone.
Rafe was mindlessly playing Candy Crush, just starting on his third level when he heard a car door being shut. He jumped to his feet, ready to greet the girl, but stopped in his tracks when he saw the state of her.
She was still in her party clothes, her (H/C) hair in a messy ponytail and her makeup all smudged. He tried to think of a joke, wanting to lighten up the mood, but his deed was interrupted when she finally had him in a tight hug.
“Whoa,” Rafe exclaimed, putting his arms around her waist. He let her stayed in that position for a few more seconds, liking the warmth, and finally parted after he cleared his throat.
“What’s wrong?”
“I, um-” she sighed, not looking into his eyes. “I got cheated on.”
Rafe was glued to his spot as he watched her wiped her tears with her sleeve, looking down to her glittery blue slippers. He couldn’t remember the amount of times he had prayed for his (Y/N) and JJ to call it off, but he didn’t hope for any kind of cheating to occur.
“I’m so sorry,” Rafe said, pulling her into a hug again. He rested his chin against the top of her head, letting the scent of strawberry wafted into his nostrils. (Y/N) cried against his chest, her face all scrunched up, and when she pulled away for the second time, she noticed the tear stains on his shirt.
“Oh my god, I’m so sorry,” she rushed, trying to remove the stain using her fingers even though she knew it was impossible. She was too tired to think logically; she felt like laying in bed and watching Love Island until the day she dies.
“You’re still stupid, even when you’re all fucked up,” Rafe sighed, but he watched her from the corners of his eyes in case his words had struck her, but she looked like she understood the joke. She smiled weakly, pulling on the hem of her dress that had rode up down.
“Come on, let’s get you cleaned up,” he said, pulling her by her wrist as he guided her through the backdoor to his room. He showed her the new passcode proudly, mouthing how it was his birthday date this time, and (Y/N) had emitted a small laugh.
Screw maybe, she did missed him.
“And still a mess,” she sighed, plopping onto Rafe’s blue bedsheet as she took a look around the room. The painting of a random boat in the middle of an ocean was still askewed, and his trash can were piling up. She made a face, pointing at the cause of disturbance.
“You have to clean that.”
“Sorry I couldn’t let you stay in our five stars suite, ma’am,” he said, finding an old t-shirt in his cupboard. “You know, since you barged in this hotel at this time, all there’s left is the 3 stars suite.”
“You’re calling this a 3 stars suite?” she laughed, tilting her head to one side. “Rafe, this room can’t even be rated.”
“Whatever,” he pulled out a yellow t-shirt, putting it aside before looking for a new pair of boxers. “Is your room still pink with that weird strawberry pound cake smell?”
“Yeah,” she laughed, crossing her legs. She was glad there were no crumbs on the bed, or else she would rather sleep in her car. “And that smell’s great. My sensory organs are blocked by all the dust you’re collecting in here.”
Rafe grinned, liking how she was back to her old self, and handed her the pair of boxers and the yellow t-shirt. (Y/N) muttered a quick thanks, her feet lightly padding against the carpeted floor towards his bathroom. She closed the door, leaning against the sink, watching her reflection in the mirror.
She did look miserable, and her eyes were all red and puffy. She always hate how puffy her eyes would get after a nice session of crying, having to endure the pain of soothing it down again.
She shook her head, not wanting to spend anymore time thinking about JJ or Kie or the pogues who had betrayed her, and tried to reach for the zip of her dress. After a few good tries she sighed, relaxing her cramped arms. The familiar yet uneasy pain coursed through her veins, and without wanting to abuse herself anymore, she turned the doorknob.
“Rafe? Can you help me?”
“Huh? Yeah,” he came to the door, closing his eyes before he halted right in front of the object. “Are you naked?”
“No, can’t seem to be, too. Can you help me unzip?”
Rafe opened his eyes, feeling his heartbeat quickening, and with trembling hands, slowly unzipped her dress and stopping directly at the curve of her bottoms, silently admiring the view.
He cleared his throat, shaking his head at the childish behaviour he just found himself in. “Yeah, done.”
“Thanks, Rafe,” she smiled, and turned to close the door again. Rafe listened to her breathing in the bathroom for a few more seconds, knowing how hard she was trying to ignore the aching feeling eating off of her. He wished he could take her pain away an make it his, knowing that at least he’ll have an excuse to snort more coke to ‘forget the pain’.
When she got out of the bathroom, Rafe had to stop himself from drooling over her in his shirt and boxers. She always look good, but she had never looked better in nothing but his yellow shirt and his boxers.
Rafe closed the light, remembering how she hates sleeping with any form of light either it’s tiny or big, and settled himself on the sofa. He wanted to give her space, not wanting to rush anything, knowing how tired she must felt from all the things she had to endure today.
“Rafe, we’re not 10. You can sleep on the same bed as I am,” she sighed, turning to face the other side. Rafe stood up, thanking the gods above, and settled for his new room.
“We never sleep in the same bed before,” he said, pulling the covers to shield himself from the cold. (Y/N) snorted at this statement, still not looking at him or even turning to face him.
The closest thing they have done to sleep right next to each other was in the car during a road trip, and when they woke up, they were both throwing disgusted faces and pretending to vomit.
“Stop it, you guys look stupid,” Sarah groaned, giving them a quick look over her shoulder. Rafe pulled his middle finger from under the blanket he was sharing with (Y/N), causing her to snort and struggling to hide her laugh.
. . .
“So yeah, that’s how you hit it.”
“You’re bluffing,” (Y/N) rolled her eyes, taking over the club and watching the small hole in the distance, squinting her eyes. She took a step back, licked her teeth, and gave Topper the club back.
“See? I told you I’m right!” he exclaimed happily, clasping his hands together. He returned to the game, focusing on his goal, and hit the golf ball.
“That’s fine, I guess,” (Y/N) announced when he came back to the resting area, “For beginners.”
Rafe snorted, downing his mineral water before handing Topper the same bottle. Topper grunted at him, muttering how it’s unhygienic, but he took a full swing of it anyways, being so thirsty after sitting under the sun for hours long.
“We’re glad you’re back with us, (Y/N),” Topper smiled, removing his cap and fanning himself with the clothing. He opened his mouth to say something, but when he looked at Rafe’s expression, he quickly shut his mouth.
He wanted to ask her if she ever missed their old clique when she was with the pogues, but Rafe knew better. It had been 3 weeks since the incidence, and she had been doing so well in coping with the situation. They had been inseparable ever since, always attached to the hips everywhere they go; he couldn’t let one tiny mistake slip that can cause her another breakdown.
“Hey,” Kelce jogged to them, smiling apologetically at Rafe and Topper before placing a quick kiss on (Y/N) ‘s cheeks. (Y/N) smiled, knowing how sweet and gentle Kelce is, almost glad he still does the same thing to her even after they had not been hanging out for a year.
“You’re not dressed for the occasion,” Topper rolled his eyes, “And late. We’re already packing up, man.”
“I know, but I’m wondering if you guys would like to listen to Cage The Elephant this evening by the beach,” he explained, still heaving from his previous activity. He had drove straight from his home to the country club after getting 4 tickets to the show, excited to show his friends what he had gotten for her.
(Y/N) snorted, throwing her arms into the air. “Fuck off, Kelce. There’s no way they’re coming down to Obx.”
Kelce sighed, taking out his phone before showing her the proof in his photos. (Y/N) grinned, trying to contain herself, and looked at Rafe who seemed to be smiling as well.
“Thanks, Kelce,” she laughed, pulling him into a hug. They made her happy, and all the negative thoughts she had about them during her brief friendship with the pogues suddenly evaporating into the air. She squealed, jumping wildly, and she swore she has never felt this happy before.
Just them four. Like the old times.
Four hours later, (Y/N) took a step back when they arrived at the beach, the memory of what happened three weeks ago suddenly rewinding in her head. Rafe noticed how quiet she had been, and pulled her aside while Topper and Kelce went to check on the stage.
“Are you okay?”
(Y/N) bit her lips, nodding. She ran her fingers over the penguin charm Rafe had gotten her a week prior, saying how it resembles him when he sees her. (Y/N) rolled her eyes at him during that surprising moment, touched yet confused at the story behind the penguin charm.
“Okay. Do you need a drink?” he asked again, staring into her eyes. She shook her head, wetting her lips and putting on her usual smile. Rafe grinned at her, muttering how she’s doing so good, all while guiding her towards their two other friends.
“(Y/N)?”
(Y/N) turned to look at the source, not thinking much. She almost fell to the ground when she saw the person responsible, but Rafe still had his arms around her. He turned to check on her again, but followed her gaze when he noticed she was staring at the opposite direction.
“What the fuck?” Rafe yelled, pushing JJ’s chest with so much anger that he toppled over to John B. Sarah yelped, pulling Kie to her side, watching as her brother walked towards them furiously.
“Chill, man, I just want to talk to her,” he said, taking a deep breath. He noticed the crowd starting to notice them, and his eyes landed on a certain girl who was held up by Topper and Kelce, both asking if she was okay.
“Fuck off, pogue,” Rafe said, his eyes stern as he stared over JJ and his group of friends. “You have nothing to say to her.”
As he turned to return to his friends, his chest heaving from the near-fight he almost encounter with JJ, he bended to (Y/N)’s height to check on her state. Her eyes were glassy, her face red.
“So you’re fucking them all now like a whore?” JJ shouted, loud enough for everyone else around them to gasp, and some already had their phones out. (Y/N) was shocked at this statement, frozen on her feet, not knowing what on earth would make JJ say that to her.
He was never mean to her, even when they had a fight. He yelled at her sometimes, sure, but she had been the one yelling first. He never called her anything of that sort, not even during sex, where she had given him her full consent.
“You’re crazy,” she muttered, her lips trembling. “Go to hell.”
“No, no, because it has always been easy for you, right? You broke up with me, got on with Rafe, leave your own friends and come back to the country clubs?” he laughed, and she flinched at his words. If JJ had meant the pogues as her friends, then he was totally wrong.
“Fuck off, pogue,” Topper stepped out, and before he could finish his sentence, JJ landed a full punch on his face, causing him to fall onto the ground with a thud.
(Y/N) screamed, getting to his side as Rafe returned JJ’s gesture. Topper laid on the ground with his nose starting to bleed, causing (Y/N) to panic while she rummaged through Rafe’s backpack he had left on the ground for clean tissues.
Topper groaned, keep wanting to get up, but (Y/N) held him in place, not letting her friend go and hurt himself more just for her. She cried while she tried to wipe the blood, hearing the fight behind her.
“Fuck you! You stupid pogue! You should be in jail like your dad!”
Something cracked in JJ as he yelled something back in pure anger. He punched, kicked, slapped and hit Rafe who was already on the ground, spitting blood.
“JJ! That’s enough,” Pope pulled him back, trying to contain the wild animal as he thrashed to escape. He yelled more curses at Rafe while Pope tried his best to pull him away, obviously not done with hitting the boy laying on the ground.
(Y/N) cried, running towards Rafe’s side, cupping his face and looking into his swollen eyes. She groaned when Rafe’s laugh filled the air, not believing how he was still joking in a state like this.
“I’m okay,” he said, his breath ragged. “Don’t cry. I’m okay.”
Rafe stood up slowly and looked at the direction of the still thrasing JJ, hearing his muffled shouts with his arms around (Y/N) ‘s waist. He held her close as she sobbed into his shoulder, still trembling.
“Let’s go home?” he asked, and (Y/N) didn’t need to be told twice to follow him into his car. As disappointed as she was that she didn’t get the chance to see her favourite band, she wanted to take care of Rafe, who had been there since the day she found out about Kie and JJ.
The clock struck 12 in the morning and the grandfather clock in the living room chimed as Rafe groaned, feeling a certain girl with trembling hands and tired eyes gently wiping a cotton pad across his cut.
“Fuck! I said slowly,” he grunted, closing his eyes to decrease the pain. (Y/N) bit her lips, trying to concentrate all the while trying to contain her laugh. He hissed again when she dabbed on his cut, this time with his fingers gripping tightly around her wrist.
“I said slowly.”
“I’m doing it slow, asshole,” she smiled, and felt him softened when she finally threw the last cotton pad. She pulled the covers to his chin, fixing the front part of hair before going to the bathroom to wash her hands. When she came back, she found him still awake with his eyes wide open, staring at the ceiling.
“I really need you to sleep,” she sighed, “To heal your pretty face.”
Rafe grinned and though (Y/N) tried her hardest not to smile back, she couldn’t deny the warm feeling settling in the pits of her stomach.
“You think I’m pretty?”
There was no use denying it anymore.
“Yeah,” she shrugged, getting into the space beside him. “Even when you are all fucked up.”
(Y/N) could sense his smile even when she didn’t look at him, knowing how soft he usually end up being when she compliments him. She turned to look at him.
“Are you serious about not wanting a girlfriend?”
Rafe turned to look at her, his eyebrows raised. His insides exclaimed happily, liking the way his words had struck her. He meant what he said, but that statement didn’t apply to (Y/N).
“Why?”
“Just asking,” she shrugged, and made a move to touch his cut. He hissed, feeling a sharp pain soaring in him, but she looked so peaceful trying to figure out his wound.
“You can kiss them to make them feel better,” he grinned, and watched as she groaned, trying to hide her face against the pillow. Rafe laughed, and turned the lamp beside him off, knowing that he shouldn’t push it and leave her be.
Just as he was about to drift into a peaceful sleep, he felt her soft lips against his, to which it was quick and gentle before she pulled away, giggling.
“4 years.”
“Huh?” (Y/N) questioned, still smiling from the kiss she just initiated a few seconds ago. She couldn’t contain herself; he looked so peaceful, so sweet, and so handsome. She didn’t know why she hadn’t kissed him sooner.
“I waited for that since 4 years ago.”
“Now you’re just pushing it, Rafe.”
Rafe grinned against the darkness, and felt his heart soaring. “Can we kiss again?”
“Tomorrow,” she stated, and Rafe laughed.
Tomorrrow. The next day. Next week.
He didn’t care - as long as he will finally have her by his side.

It's me again!!!!
I really love the way you write, and I hope I don't pressure you too much!
So can I pls have a scenario with koko and inupi with a friend that is kidna crazy, rude but also smart (kinda like GenZ). Like they met when the reader was about to fight a group, nd koko and inupi were just walking by, stopping to look what was happening.
And I just have this stuck in my head:
Random: What are you gonna do about it
Reader: I'm gonna fuck your mom and give her a son she can actually love
So like the reader isn't in a gang but he is seen with them most of the time so obviously people assume things. And like before they got to know him they expect him to be dumb because of the things he says, but they learn that he is actually pretty smart
I really hope I don't pressure you too much with how much I request but I just really love the way you write and you already answered 2 of my requests perfectly
Koko,Inupi and their rare friend
happy new year! sorry for make you wait (●´⌓`●)
anyway, here's your request I hope you enjoy it <3
btw,I found it very funny the thing about the mother so I added it to the request
Tumblr media
A few days after Koko and Inupi joined Toman and things had calmed down a bit, Takemichi and Chifuyu could be seen talking as they walked
Or that was what they were doing until they heard a fight
They could see a boy fighting with an entire gang or at least the three members that were left standing.
And that's when the leader of the band spoke since the boy was on the ground
"And what are you gonna do now Y/n?"
Takemichi were about to help the boy until he spoke:
"I'm gonna fuck your mom and give her a son she can actually love"
And boom, the leader out of nowhere had received a kick to the head, causing the other two to take him away.
"Who taught you that language? "
Inupi? what was he doing here?
And he apparently Y / n pointed to something or someone
"Don't point me spoiled rat of 14!
Koko? ok wtf
"Takemichi, Chifuyu, you can get out of there now"said Inupi
After that Inupi and Koko had to explain who Y / n was
They met him a year ago in a store, swearing at the old lady who worked as a cashier
Inupi got in the way of the talk, telling the old lady to forgive his"friend" and taking him bc he wanted the boy to shut up.
And this is how a friendship started in which Y / n was koko's spoiled
They admitted that at first they thought that Y / n was a brainless fool, which left Y / n quite offended with them
They explained that Y / n was not part of any band no matter how much they begged
He was rude in actions and in vocabulary but when he wanted to he could use his brain, and dang,he looked like another person when he used it
After this event, takemichi started talking to Y / n since it could be useful to save his girlfriend
Btw, Y / n began to talk with the other members of Toman and more than anything Draken
And now, Y / n was koko,draken and mitsuya's spoiled
