"Cocteau ... has created an enigmatic libretto in which a noble maiden has a lovely white unicorn which eats only from her hand. But after the Knight comes, and an amorous pas de deux ensues between the two aristocrats, the Unicorn will no longer eat and dies. The Knight, who has left, now returns, but the Lady is no longer interested in him. As the curtain falls, she is on stage alone, with neither Knight nor Unicorn, pointing to a banner on which is inscribed 'Mon seul desir' (My only desire)."

Kang’s first appearance features him teleporting into the Avenger’s headquarters - on a sofa - and challenging the whole team to a duel. He’s my favorite villain of all time. He elevates being a dick to a level that can only be referred to as an art form.

Reading update:

Poetry! Idk anything about poetry but I liked these poems.

I really really loved Lev Rosen’s book Camp, so I picked this one up. Jack of Hearts (and Other Parts) was very good, but this is definitely one where I had to be like, “I am not the target audience for this, but it accomplishes what it sets out to achieve.” The main characters are teens, of course, since it’s YA, and they are veeeerrrry sexually active, and I kind of felt like a parent haha. It was a very sex positive book which was good! But it honestly made me a bit uncomfortable—and again, I am not the target audience, as I am very definitely not a teen. The writing itself was great, and the stalker plot was creepy as hell.

I love Ginn Hale. Ginn Hale has never written anything I don’t like. I actually had a different Ginn Hale mlm fantasy in my TBR pile, but I was able to pick this one up recently (for some reason it was kind of hard to find online) and figured I should probably finish one of her duologies before I started another one. I adored this—watching Javier bloom and accept himself was wonderful, and the love Kiram and Javier have for each other is really lovely.

Do you like to cry? Do you like to get so sad as you’re reading that you can’t breathe? Do you like to get angry that the AIDS crisis went on for so long in America because of bigotry? Bonus points if you were a literal child at its height and couldn’t have done a damn thing, but you still beat yourself up as you read because...maybe you could have? Maybe you didn’t have to be so clueless about it?

Anyway this book follows two eighteen year old boys in New York City in 1990. Adam has his first boyfriend and first love who is HIV positive. Ben is kinda/sorta kicked out by his mom in upstate New York and comes to live with his brother in NYC. The two of them keep running into each other. Through the book we get these interludes in first person where a question is posed, and then answered, and it becomes clear—at least, it was clear to me—that this is Adam and Ben talking to each other in the future.

I had to read this entire book in one day because it was too fucking sad to go to bed thinking about it.
