Removing the veil of numbness
from my bruised heart
to let it breath
to initiate the hurt once again,
this fine June.
The wounds are old
but November is over
the hurt won’t be as intense
and in June, it’ll heal.

"Explain" they said.
And so I tried.
The meaning lost within furrowed brows of misunderstanding.
So I showed them.
Outside.
Showed them the sky, pink with clouds.
Showed them that fiery orange orb that is the Sun.
And the sky was theirs alone.
Candy floss haze and golden glow.
"Did you ever see such beauty?"
Silence. Loudly mocking.
Cocktail party smiles carefully fixed.
Tainted vision cannot perceive the magic of a summer's night.
What profit to be made from splendour?
And that great star slipped earthwards;
A bow to end the Solstice show.
Lights dimmed in preparation for the final player;
Soft shadows kneel to mark their entrance,
As darkness sweeps across the stage;
Resplendent in their summer cloak of darkest blues.
Cannot yet twinkle little star;
Await your cue.
And yet I cannot make them see any more than 'night' and 'day'
And it makes me cry.

Sapphic June - A Tumblr Poetry Challenge
The lovely @theheartofthekoko and i ( @the-clary-rose ) invite you to take part in our upcoming Sapphic June poetry challenge!
The goal is to write a new poem every day for the entire month (or as many days as work for you, there are no firm rules about it). We have thirty prompts, but feel free to write whatever you want, the prompts are mostly there as a backup plan for when you need a little nudge towards poetic inspiration.
Post and tag your poems with #sapphicjune here on tumblr to take part in the challenge! Koko and I will be checking the tag and commenting on/reblogging poems sporadically over the course of the month! We’re excited to share our love of poetry with you, and hope that you’ll join us as you feel comfortable!
There really are no rules beyond posting the poem and tagging it. There’s no minimum requirement or limit to how many poems you can write. This is meant to be fun, not stressful!
Write well, my friends!
- Katie and Koko

I am not.

tentang hati yang patah
melihat cahaya meninggalkan purnama, tak berjejak
hatiku patah
mendengar ombak tak terpecah, tak berbuih
hatiku patah
mengecap kopi hitam tanpa susu
hatiku patah
membaui aroma yang kau tinggal pada sisi tempat tidur
hatiku patah
merasa detak jantungmu dalam kebisuan detik
hatiku patah
hatiku terus menerus patah
dan bagaimana aku harus menghentikannya
sedang
kau lah satu-satunya perekat
kau jua si pembuat jarak

i looked at her and i saw her and that was my first sin. not looking - but seeing. best left to god and not the kind of god that hides in the skin of a tiger-eyed girl with burning hair. i looked at her and i closed my hand into a fist. not touching - no touching. no hands on hands on skin on skin. i reached to touch her jaw and ended with my fingers in between her teeth and tongue. i looked at her and the sky opened up into a dazzling show through a fistful of embers. but i didn’t care because i was looking at her. i was looking at her. i was always looking. tiger-eyed girl - she never saw me. she never sinned, only me against a god that put looking into my heart and then pushed all my truth out like a candle.
