ACOTAR 5: A Frozen and Moana Retelling
By @wingedblooms and @silverlinedeyes
Note: this is mainly a joke based on @wingedblooms amazing Ramiel meta and we were cracking up at the idea, but Sarah has toddlers so I CAN SEE IT lmao
Cast of Characters
Te Fiti/Arendelle: Wyrd whose soul is in Prythian (the heart of which is in Ramiel)
Ta’ka/the eternal winter: the barren parts of Prythian
The Heart of Te Fiti: the Cauldron
Elsa/Maui: The Asteri (I think? TBD honestly)
Anna and Kristoff/Moana and Maui: Elain and Azriel
Love: well, love (or Elain’s life giving or healing powers)
A Plot Summary
A long time ago in a land far far away (Prythian) Wyrd birthed the land. To give life to the land, her spirit was entrapped in the cauldron, and that cauldron was hidden in the heart of Prythian: Ramiel.
Tumblr media
One day, the land was invaded by evil beings called Daglan, though we now know they were Asteri. And the Asteri stole the spirit of Wyrd for themselves and corrupted it.
Tumblr media
This corruption caused a plague to ripple through the land, killing mountain after mountain (like how death killed island after island in Moana—see where we’re going here?)
Tumblr media
This set off an eternal winter (“you kind of set off an eternal winter”) in Illyria that could only be prevented by the Blood Rite feeding life and magic back into the land to temporarily bring back spring, only for the land to fall into a deep winter again that it seemed could not be broken until the Rite was done anew.
Tumblr media
Never fear though! Elain and Azriel are going to go on a journey to figure out what is wrong with the land. They might even have to go to Hel or maybe the Middle (either one would be Lalotai—the land of monsters) and back to find answers.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They will have to face whatever evil lurks within the land, leeching it of life, and whatever evil has corrupted the cauldron.
Tumblr media
And ultimately, they will discover that love (or maybe, you know, Elain’s lifesinging magic or healing magic) can thaw a frozen “heart” and remove the corruption from the cauldron (a la Yrene in ToD and KoA using healing powers to remove the Valg parasite?), restoring the heart of Prythian—i.e. the Caudron and Wyrd’s spirit—to the land and cause spring to bloom again.
Tumblr media
Oh and how could I forget—Elain and Az will discover true love (true mates?!) for each other along the way.
Tumblr media
THE END.
#you’re welcome 🤣🤣

Here's my version of Zerachiel!
POTENTIAL TRIGGER WARNING: I briefly mention pedophilia and talk about OCD.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Zurachoniel Absevomuthi is a self-confident, honest, and patient charismatic fallen hybrid between an archangel and a choir angel with a strong fondness for young children. He’s exceptionally compassionate and wise, and often behaves in an enthusiastic and cheerful way, trying to inspire positivity within others. However, he can come off as frustratingly boisterous, gullible, naive, and even mischievous at times. Despite the betrayal of his kind and his persistent loneliness, he tries to maintain an optimistic outlook on life. He’s a workaholic with intense loyalty in his relationships and materialistic desires. Due to his pragmatic nature, he’s concerned more with matters of fact than with what could or should be. He’s tenacious and stubborn when it comes to his responsibilities and love of music, but can make brash and clumsy decisions. Whenever he feels extremely stressed out or mentally exhausted, he tries to remain calm, bubbly, and stoic. He has obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), possessing an irrational fear of contamination and misplacing items. He has a need for things to be orderly and balanced, and a difficult time dealing with uncertainty. He experiences unwanted, aggressive, and horrific thoughts about sexual objects, losing control, and harming himself and others. Zurachoniel tries to think of more pleasant thoughts, follows a strict cleaning and organising routine, and often demands reassurance.
He’s a 5’ 3” (160.02 cm) ectomorph with an inverted triangular figure, sloping shoulders, a square chest, and a mediocre musculature. He has pallid skin with cut marks on his thighs and greyish-brown freckles on his face, neck, hands, and feet. He has inverted T transgender mastectomy scars and a silvery birthmark that’s shaped like a long-haired comet on his lower right abdominopelvic quadrant. Zurachoniel’s side-swept hair is a silvery-green with messy surfer vibes, and he has sunburst soft maroon-salmon pink eyes with blue tapetum lucidum. He used to have two wings that mimic the natural hues of a purple sterling, but changed into a glossy black with pink sheen after his fall. He has two tattoos: a fiery gyrfalcon emerging from an old-fashioned furnace and a blue serpent coiling around a golden trumpet on his right arm.
During his time in heaven, he wore a linen alb of shimmering blue-green with slight ripples and it reached above his mid-calves. Over his alb is a golden dalmatic that had embroidered designs of hibiscus flowers, rivers, shooting comets, turtle doves, and circles of fire. He wears a cashmere red-violet skirt with white ermine trim at the bottom and gilt-brass anklets. Around his waist was a metallic purple girdle of bluish-yellow bells, red grapes, and poet’s daffodils. He originally had a simple golden halo that gleamed with bright light, but that would turn into a smoky black with sharp spikes. After Zurachoniel’s fall from grace, he wears a tight broadcloth shirt of mine shaft and a viola bowtie with diagonal marigold stripes. He dons a fuzzy wuzzy brown tuxedo and dusty grey trousers with copper rust and pirate’s gold polka dots. He also has an acapulco formal V-neck vest and gypsum rose lace-ups with metallic blue bottoms. He carries around an acoustic guitar made from Hawaiian koa wood and a golden carnyx that has a bell styled in an open-mouthed dragon’s head. His gryphon-adorned thurible is tied to his black leather belt and his carnyx has a thin, yet sturdy shoulder strap.
Zurachoniel can manipulate holy music, fragrance, bitterness, and angels, and use omni-telepathy, meta-teleportation, and psychokinesis. His omniscience is nearly perfect, but various details and topics are mentally blocked. However, he possesses absolute knowledge on moons, the musical arts, and the apocalypse of each universe. He’s a master of singing and musical instruments, using his voice to purify negativity in those who are willing to listen. His physical strength and emotional intelligence is enhanced by prayers, and he can sense the coming of death and act of dying. He can create a violent firestorm and falling comets that poison rivers and water springs. He’s able to freeze the movement of the stars, moons, and the Sun, diminishing light and causing complete darkness during day and night. He has the ability to summon crowned locusts, earthquakes, hailstorms, lightning, and thunder. He can heal people of their physical and mental scars, and damage the souls of parents for their incompetence to protect and educate their children. Zurachoniel has dominion over the earth and purifying light, and can absorb addictions, night terrors, and memory problems.
FAMILY:
Unknown
ALIASES/NICKNAMES:
Zerachiel
Acrid Wyrm
Angel of Bitterness, Fractured Childhood, and Slow Healing
FUN FACTS/EXTRA INFORMATION:
He’s questioning and transgender
As an Æylphitus, the different parts of his name have special meanings: Zurachoniel means “god has remembered” and Absevomuthi means “woodworm”.
He views door handles, empty sinks, and public toilets as sources of contamination.
He silently repeats a series of words in gibberish nonsense while doing unrelated tasks
When organising his clothing, antique items, books, and musical instruments, he always counts backwards and avoids the number 7.
During his time in Eylvhraszokjumni, he was a babysitter, an educator, and the leader of the choir angels.
He questioned the divine council on the unjust rules they impose on sinners and how some people were unfairly judged. The divine council weren’t impressed, so they orchestrated a plan to turn most of the angels against him by proclaiming that he’s a pedophile. They used fabricated evidence to strengthen their claim, so they can “justify” why he was kicked out of heaven.
His penis was surgically removed and his vagina mutilated with a ceremonial dagger, basilisk venom, and medicinal alcohol.
He dislikes to admit that he’s a fallen angel
He’s the vocalist and acoustic guitarist of Amara Lignum (“Bitter Wood” in Latin), a funky jazz band he founded.

I honestly avoid discussions about Rhaegar and Lyanna because the discourse has given me irreparable psychic damage and we just don't know enough about either of them to have intense feelings about them. I don't like or dislike either character, they are just characters with little background whose relationship is a plot device to set the stage for the main series lol. That being said, I think the reason Lyanna is disliked is 90 percent because of the show. The show had her aged up and giggling at this embarrassing fairytale wedding ceremony in Dorne of all places after she knew Rhaegar threw is wife and kids away in some bizarrely cruel annulment and then named her son Aegon. The showrunners made those two even worse than Henry VIII and A*ne B*leyn because at least KOA and Mary Tudor weren't brutally murdered after Henry VIII threw his first family away. It was incredibly bizarre and made the characters even more cruel and malicious than what I believe Martin probably intended. If this was what he intended in the books though, I really have no words because wow lmao.
It might be unfair to dislike her because of the show, but that is the only interpretation of that character there is so that will color every discussion about her. Book fans need to understand that until Martin finally publishes something it really doesn't matter what clues or metas they think point to the Real Truth of that relationship. I see people arguing over and over that, "Well, that is not what Martin intended at all and the books will be different." Well, ok, but until he actually publishes a physical book that one can go buy at a bookstore all people are doing is debating and arguing their headcanons about these two, while aggressively ignoring the show depiction. It's just so stupid and makes people go in circles. I honestly would love to never see discourse about Robert's Rebellion ever again because it's just so stupid.
I just answer anon questions as they come, i'm not writing metas especifically about R&L, and even when I answer those questions, my premise is that we don't know much about what really happened.
Having said that, I think that giving and opinion and interpretation based on the few lines from the text material and the author interviews is something more than headcanon tho.
I agree with you that R&L are basiclly just a plot device, and on top of everthing they are dead, and fighting over the ambiguos/dubius relationship of two dead characters, is mostly useless.
But some of the most ardent R&L lovers ranting and crying in our inboxes are actually funny, at least I give them that much. . . . LOL

New DC Series Ahead
So while I wait to be entered into Ao3 I thought I'd share a bit about the characters from my new series, Back in Black. So Back in Black is a fanfiction of the DC universe. It isn't just DCU, DCAU, DCMU, or anything like that. It's literally everything including some stuff from Teen Titans (the original) and Young Justice (S1, S2).
Back in Black is a multi-pov fic that mostly uses the pov of my two OCs, Rosa Wayne and Abigail Andrews.
Rosa is Bruce Wayne's biological daughter that he had with a previous girlfriend named Leilani Koa. Leilani was meta, but Rosa isn't because Leilani's powers (mostly extreme strength and durability) couldn't handle being transferred to Rosa so Leilani got extremely sick during pregnancy and died during childbirth.
Rosa was taken in as a baby by her father and was raised alongside Dick and Jason. She was eleven when Jason was murdered. (Oh yeah in this timeline Bruce gets Jason when he's like 10 and Dick is 15 and Rosa is like 2). She was used to her brother's gymnastic shit from a very young age.
A bit of housekeeping: Bruce Wayne's bio children are Damian Wayne and Rosa Wayne. His adopted children are Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Cassandra Cain, and Duke Thomas. Barbara's father is still alive and Steph lives on her own with support from Bruce. (But she isn't adopted by him because of the ships in this book because we don't support incest here).
Abigail Andrews is the daughter of a scientist who experimented on her and her older sister to 'better the world.' When Abby's older sister was murdered by the Joker Abby's father went crazy and tried to turn her into a supervillain. She escaped and created a power limiter for herself but she still has the speed of an Addax and enhanced strength.
Chapter One of Back in Black should be coming out soon.

listen… the scariest part about that excerpt was aelin talking about maeve toying with her memories.
“The dark queen with a spider’s smile tried to wield it against her. In the obsidian webs she wove, the illusions and dreams she spun at the culmination of each breaking point, the queen tried to twist the memory of him as a key into her mind. They were blurring. The lies and truths and memories.”
not only is this heartbreaking, but it makes me think that if she’s trapped in there for another few months, aelin might start to think that rowan never really loved her at all. that he had hated her from the beginning, and anything she thought was a loving memory was actually a lie. that even her court did not believe in her and all of her efforts were futile. that her own failures had gotten her there.
a theory circling around tumblr for a while about koa is that maeve is going to use aelin as a weapon not only against erawan, but rowan, too, when he rescues her. and that’s going to be…ugly if she fights it.
i think when she is finally rescued and safely home, her biggest fear, the biggest trauma that she’ll still hold onto about her time spent with maeve, are the memories that she will no longer have intact about her past. and that’s going to be awful—the first time she has to look at rowan and say, “i remember that this happened. was that real, or not real?” and i think that might become her new way to cope. it’s the one truth that she might not share with anyone but her mate: that she no longer even remembers the conversations and events that occurred in her past because they might all be lies, twisted and taken from her as punishment. and i think it’ll break rowan, slowly and thoroughly, when he has to answer all of these questions as he realizes how much was taken from him, too. wondering if his wife even remembers the moment that they were married, the day he got down on his knees to tie the blood oath to her, etc. it will ruin him, especially if he has to answer the most painful question of all: “you...still love me. real or not real?” because, in the end, he blames himself.

Hey Throne of Glass people! We’re all here because we enjoy a series in which not one but two women of color (specifically, if we’re to rely on somewhat vague descriptions of Sorscha, BLACK women) are killed off to further the storylines of white protagonists. If we’re honest about condemning this and enjoying the series critically, the least we can do is make efforts to combat real world injustice.

I donated $50 to the Minnesota Freedom fund, which you can read about HERE, and donate to HERE. If you can afford it - please consider matching my donation. If you can’t - please consider reblogging or signing the petition for justice for George Floyd HERE. Thanks guys 🖤

Dorian in KoA
I’ve been thinking a lot about Dorian and what he did in KoA, not only to help with the wyrdkey and lock situation, but just in general. How his relationship with Manon changed and how he mourned Sorscha and how he tried to come to terms with his father and not knowing what kind of king he wanted to be/could be. (This is lowkey because we tend to talk about Dorian in terms of manorian and not as an individual, independent character. But there’s so much more there than a ship.)
Throughout the series, Dorian was trying to figure out how to wield his power, both in terms of magic and being King of Adarlan. When he met Celaena, he played the part of pampered prince well. He looked down at her from his throne, he was fine taking a woman from prison and forcing her to fight for him. He ate like a fine lady still. Then as we get to know him, we see that the most significant emotional relationship he has is with his best friend, the captain of his guard. (I wonder if Chaol’s loyalty to the King of Adarlan was another thing making Dorian feel like he had to stay in line. Just a thought.) Dorian’s family is more ceremonial than anything else. His mother probably did not get to marry for love, and so that’s understandable. Up until we meet him, Dorian’s most significant emotional relationship was with Chaol. Which is pretty damn important.
Going back to who Dorian was supposed to be and who he was, that means that Dorian the Future King and Dorian the Person are not necessarily the same. You have Dorian the playboy, and the Dorian who gave a girl - whom he owed nothing to - hope. However, Dorian the Person doesn’t matter, not in the scheme of things, that’s what his father would say. So Dorian grows up knowing that he will have control of a kingdom, but feels like he has no control over himself.
It’s an ironic twist that for all of Queen of Shadows, Dorian had zero control over himself or his body. His loss of autonomy was complete. He was trapped and horrified at what he had failed to do, and then what he was forced to observe. He was supposed to have saved Sorscha, become King of Adarlan, and kept being bros with Chaol. He may have been dreading having to follow in his father’s footsteps, but he could do it. Then in QoS, even that was stripped away.
So then skip to EoS/KoA, and suddenly... Dorian not only has control of himself again, but he realizes that he has more control over his life than he knew. And that’s terrifying. He could really fuck everything up, and it would be all his fault. There was no demon inside of him anymore, his father was no longer looming over him, telling him everything he was doing wrong. He was finally able to mourn Sorcha openly.
He had difficulty using his shifting ability because he wasn’t comfortable in his own skin yet. He didn’t know who he wanted to be, because he hadn’t had the ability to choose in so long. So what if he made the wrong choice? What if he failed again? Dorian had complete control, and no idea what to do with it. At first. It wasn’t even until he broke away from Manon and made choices for himself that he finally started to come into his own. He went and got that power by himself. He sat alone and practiced shifting. He went to Morath alone.
Sure, Manon’s role in Dorian’s life is important. But it’s not everything. Dorian grew up knowing not only that he had to be king, but that if he failed, his brother might take his place. And that really, really can’t happen. Dorian grew up knowing what kind of king his father was, knowing he didn’t want to be that, but not being sure what other choice there was. Aelin came into his life at exactly the right time, as a model of someone who doesn’t rule their kingdom, but serves it. And I think that’s exactly what he needed, to show him another way that he could be, as a king.

Hi I saw your post about fics being in character and I thought this could be a good opportunity to share some insight to help people who struggle with their characterization. I love your writing and ask could you share some traits you see as 'core' Rowan and Aelin traits? Maybe more valuably, would you be open to sharing your process for what you look for in the text when understanding characters, what stands out to you and what you make sure to include vs what you don't? I understand if this isn't something you want to share and I send this ask with good intentions and respect and hope this can start a productive discussion, no drama. Thanks :))
totally okay that you asked this!!
i think part of it is that i have read everything up to EoS so many times. like at least four times each and i've read heir of fire and queen of shadows probably six times each. i've only read kingdom of ash once bc it's still too painful to read again lmaoooo.
when i write i also always look for any chance i can to make parallels. i love making canon parallels to anything from small moments to bigger ones that are more recognizable. like the rowaelin qos reunion, rowan's "where is my wife" moment. rowan and aelin sparring in any capacity, like, anything like that. because i think that helps when you're pulling from the text and putting them into situations where you know how they interact with them, and it makes it easier to add in bits and pieces before and after. if that makes any kind of sense. (this also goes for legit any ship that i write. nessian, feysand, etc. pulling from the text and putting them in familiar situations will always help.)
as far as traits go, one of my major ones that i always try to keep in mind is rowaelin's loyalty to each other. rowan is like loyal to aelin almost to a fault sometimes. he will do anything and everything for her. when it comes that's why their thing is "to whatever end." they will follow each other to whatever end and beyond.
aelin has a very low opinion of herself. she thinks that she's expendable compared to those around her. she is very depressed sometimes and i think it gets overlooked a lot. (when i get my books back from my sister, i plan on doing a meta about this.) but she's been through a lot in her life and i try to keep that in mind in a lot of au's. some au's that are heavier (like iihasts and fafs) i try to pull on that. her mental health is very important to a lot of the way she handles things. post KOA, i know this girl has PTSD. it's evident in the way she handles a lot and takes a long time to warm back up to rowan in kingdom of ash. but she was tortured and manipulated for months. she's not okay.
people (in the books) also call her selfish A LOT but most of what she does she does for other people. she even spared dorian the weight of killing his father and told him she did it. like, come on.
as celaena, she does lean on the more selfish side, but as aelin she's doing everything she does for the greater good of the entire world. she didn't forge that lock for herself. she forged that lock for a better tomorrow for everyone she loved. which is incredibly selfless. she would also completely throw down to keep her loved ones safe.
the arrogant behavior is such an act. she's not really like that, it's a cover to hide everything she's truly feeling inside, to protect herself, to keep people from truly getting to know her. she can flip her personality to better suit the situation and the people she's around. she's mostly only her true self around aedion, lysandra, and rowan. i don't even think she really reveals herself to the rest of the cadre for probably a very long time. she picks fights when she's hurting the most and rowan is really the first person to see and recognize that. (very evident in hof when she sees what a good person gallan appears to be and goes and picks a bar fight immediately. or when arobynn humiliates her and she wears her nicest jewels to try to intentionally get robbed so she can start a fight.)
the reality is that she's an insanely hard worker, she keeps going and going and going to meet to meet her goals. she's a master strategist and very quick on her feet in any situation she finds herself in. she feels isolated (which goes back to her depression and ptsd) and she feels misunderstood. but she has been known to literally give the cloak off her back (with kaltain) and the money in her pocket (with yrene) and doesn't expect anything in return. literally nothing in return. she just did it out of the goodness of her own heart, yet she's constantly filled with self doubt that she's a bad person because people tell her that she is (chaol literally calls her a monster and she holds onto that and ends up asking rowan if she is one.)
she gives a lot of forgiveness and second chances, except to abusers. she pulls no punches with them. yet even with arboynn, she made sure there were no redeeming qualities left before letting lysandra kill him. instead of seeing it as a victory, though, she just felt hollow. she doesn't take joy in killing these people. she is not a bad person.
she feels a lot of guilt when she feels she could have stopped things. i think she carries those moments with her. which is why she helped those people the king wanted dead to escape in com. she has no problem ending people that deserve the punishment, but when they don't, she does what she can to help them.
rowan is so respectful. he finally gets his mate and his wife and his love back and he's consistently giving her the space she requires when it's so hard for him to not just touch her. he puts his own needs aside consistently based on what aelin needs.
he's a complete and total hardass to other people but is so soft for her. but he's also territorial about her. he's protective of her. but never at the cost of what she needs and wants. however, he will put his foot down and make people swallow their own tongues if they're disrespectful toward her. but he's also respectful toward everyone, not just aelin. he can prove his points without physical violence even if he would want to.
in that same vein, if you're doing enemies to lovers, he doesn't understand her at first. he think's she's spoiled and doesn't have a single clue about the trauma she's been through and he's very hard on her. he treats her like another warrior in their training. he doesn't go easy on her just because she's a woman (which also still comes from a place of respect) but the second he finds out about her trauma the way he treats her shifts. he becomes protective because he doesn't put up with that kind of shit. he isn't torturing her in their training, in fact aelin in hof says that he's brilliant even if he beats the shit out of her every damn day. a lot of people try to twist that into a thing of abuse, but again, he's training her like a warrior. he doesn't coddle her and she doesn't want to be coddled. again, this comes from a place of respect.
he also learns from his mistakes and tries to right them, and takes action to better himself from it as soon as he can. this is important. he has the humility to apologize, whether it be by actions or words. he doesn't ask for credit in the things he does and ends up kind of making jokes about it. i think he has a lot of humility at the end of the day. he is quick to forgive others when it's deserved but has a lot of trouble forgiving himself. this is also important.
but rowan also has a playful side with aelin. they have witty banter that they exchange even when they're not totally on board with the other. he's funny in subtle ways, and toward the end of the series we see that he's so wholly comfortable with her that he even gets a little silly.
after his own trauma, he also falls into a very deep depression. for centuries. it took aelin coming along for him to come back out of his shell. everyone gave up on him, but aelin never did. just like he never gave up on her, and they were able to walk out of that darkness together. i also think he feels a lot of guilt when innocent lives get put in danger and risk or die at his hands when he felt he could have stop it, much like aelin.
rowan is also very calm in most situations. he's able to work out solutions like the warrior that he is even when other people are losing their minds, which makes him a very good soldier and eventually king.
i could keep going but this is getting wildly long lol. i hope this helps even a little. thank you to @westofmoon @whimsicallyreading @punkassbookjockey26 for helping me with my thoughts as i'm still exhausted from surgery and healing.

2. Tell us about what you’re most looking forward to writing – in your current project, or a future project: There’s a part in Golden World that I’m like I Want This To Happen So Much. There’s also a part that’s Pain but will also be a thing I really want to get to. I cannot say more because spoilers but OH OH IT MAKES ME HAPPY.
1. Tell us about your current project(s)  – what’s it about, how’s progress, what do you love most about it?
Okay. I’ll go in bullet points under a read more.
Tudors
Iphigenia (the OT3 verse version of Iphigenia by @reganx2 which I should summarise to @pearlsthatwereeyes as ‘what if Iphigenia but the daughter lives + the shitty dad gets his after [redacted] to her children): I finally figured out that it need an addition to the current last chapter chapter and then an epilogue that’s like 20 years later because the lovely people over at @cosmonauthill’s Discord Server helped me figure a thing out.
Golden World (the Tudors OT3 Universe 1547 - [redacted] in which we meet Mihrimah Sultan, Princess of Wales, seeds are planted, golden worlds are building and some people are shit): I am so stuck on this particular chapter UGH. Possibly I should just skip it for a bit or something but I kind of need this chapter and the subsequent one(s) to set up things for a time skip and the later part of the story but my brain is like U SUCK U WILL GET IT WRONG so I have to wrangle it into shape. This is
Let Us Dream (Modern AU OT3 Romance Dot Gif): Should really just mark this as incomplete :(. I also can’t decide whether it’s any good or not but I adore the fic it was inspired by so AAAGH.
Lucky Stars And Moon (OT3 Modern Royalty AU In Our World): I want to write more and do more graphics but it also requires me to like, think about tabloid journalism.
A Queen Twice Over (Basically a fic of fic making it OT3 in which Mary (Rose) Tudor marries Francis I): Needs like, words and also an outline.
Into The Fire (Sort of ’Game of Thrones but in England’ featuring all of Henry’s siblings live but also they have an awful oldest brother and they are rebelling against him): I know how it goes but it goes dark and I’m not sure if I’m in the headspace for that.
Exile AU (Henry does a Stupid, exiles Anne and Tom, marries Jane, it turns out Anne is (a) still pregnant and (b) gives birth to Prince Thomas): Exists in Tumblr Posts.
Dark Mirror AU (Consorts AU AU in which Henry and KOA listen to Norwich :/): also only exists in tumblr fic.
Queen Of Blood AU (Mary decides to take a turn left from It’s Always Darkest and take Nofolk up on his offer of the throne): also only exists in tumblr fic.
The Witcher
Witcher Narnia (The Witcher In Narnia): I really want to write the story of Calenthe The Last Queen Of Narnia Before The White Witch but possibly I need to wait until I watch S2 to get inspired. I do have a soundtrack for it though. Also maybe yell flail at @shes-a-voodoo-child @ruffboijuliaburnsides about it.
Witcher Hunger Games (The Witcher in the Hunger Games AU which = things are both better and worse): I want to write the Yen and Jaskier first meeting in dive bar story and then maybe some of Yen’s games in detail.
Meet Cute On Set (Or ‘Jaskier is an actor, Geralt is the equestrian trainer/teacher and it’s filming The Tudors but my Tudors OT3 unverse Tudors because Joey Batey played Mark Smeaton in Wolf Hall’ Yen is a director/producer): I want to research more about the equestrian side of things etc.
Witcher Tortall (Because Yen Has Purple Eyes): sadly exists only in tumblr posts right now.
Misc
It’s Not Because Of You, It’s Beause Of Me (Ted Lasso fic about Jamie Tartt with a take on his backstory that is complete on it’s own but could also have another chapter): maybe maybe will have something else.

i'm like... a third of the way through?
i realized why Megan wrote this book. It's because Sophos is absolutely a foil for Eugenides. He is almost guileless in the face of Gen's wiles. He is incredibly optimistic about other people, whereas I think Gen would also see people's faults and how to leverage them (which, as I'm thinking about it now, makes Gen's graciousness so incredible). Sophos is certainly no prodigy except maybe with poetry, compared to Gen the renaissance man. anyway thanks for coming to my qt meta. Here are more things I liked:
Sophos trying not to laugh at people being afraid of him. (sophos. what will you do when you're king? people are going to be afraid of you all the time?)
Sophos knowing to give a different name other than his own! he lives up to his given name.
He literally just wants to read poetry and have friends. uggggghh. Sophos.
Sophos loving the QT-world equivalent of the Iliad. I am here for it, because I too love the Iliad.
The whole exchange with Dirnes! I am thinking of Gen in KoA: "He was kind." taking the beating. sharing the cake. good grief.
"I wonder if people always choose what will make them unhappy." / man I gotta sit down and think about this quote. also gotta see if this holds true for sophos for the rest of the book. i hope not.
"...still I waited, because there was no point in lying to Sylvie." / Gen would NEVER. (I mean, maybe he would, but I don't think for that reason.)

Not Telling: A Study in How Much We are Actually Told About The Characters, Part One of Two
AKA that meta I started writing/promised to post fully a year ago and then never finished or posted bc I’m a mess. It’s being posted in two parts because it got a bit long.
So we all have our own idea of what the characters look like although many people believe the characters look roughly the same, with some minor differences from headcanon to headcanon. But what does the text itself tell us? The answer is...both more than I expected but also in keeping with Not Telling, not a whole lot at all.
I want to start this with a caveat that I kept very good notes on TT, ACoK, and TaT, mediocre notes on KoA and passable ones for QoA lol. however, it does give us a decent picture of what everyone looks likes. This is like 70% quotes and 30% extrapolation, but I try to explain my thought process on some of my conclusions.
Eugenides:
There’s a few instances that I remember reading (mostly in The Thief) that I forgot to mark but I know all of those dealt with his height and hair - that his hair is long, that it’s dark, and that he’s smaller than Pol and the Magus. So here we go:
“..the man wearing it was tall. Taller than I was, of course, but taller than the magus as well.” - Note that he’s talking about the one of the gods here, which indicates that
eugenides is very short at this point
the magus when compared to other people is probably pretty tall
“Scabs that were black against my prison-fair skin.” - Indicates that his skin has lightened noticeably since he was in prison although that’s the only indicator we get about what he looks like until literally the very ending with...
“He mentioned an Eddisian mother to explain his dark coloring.” - Which is exactly what I mean in Not Telling - we are told enough to have a clear blue print of him, but we are left to fill in the details of how he looks.
About his wound: “it’s taken a divot out of your face...it might heal clean.” and “I was quite certain I’d have a feather-shaped white scar.” - Note that Eugenides thinks this is a sign of approval from the Eugenides the god.
We get just as little in The Queen of Attolia, although note that this is the first time we are getting Gen from someone else’s point of view, instead of him describing himself:
“...his dark hair covering his face...He’d grown...he was not quite her height, but with his hair cropped short under his helmet, she hadn’t looked twice at him when she had seen him.” - that’s the only real description we get of him in the beginning of QoA before It Happens, and it’s from Irene’s point of view. There’s also several references to him looking “young” “naive” and “guilless” - young pops up about half a dozen times, and she remarks often on him being “a boy” and “half-grown.” Obviously part of that is guilt, but I did want to note that when we’re in Gen’s mind, he doesn’t focus on how short or young he looks, but when we’re in someone else’s mind, they immediately zero in on how young and small Gen is.
There’s a lot of descriptions of him after The Thing but it’s all involved in how sick he looks ie bruises showing against his yellowed skin, being so pale that his scar looked dark against his skin, that he’s lost a lot weight, stuff like that. It gives us the sense that he is very sick but no real indication of how he looks when he’s not suffering from fever and blood loss.
“His dark hair blended into the darkness behind him…” - first physical description in KoA
“The Queen was several inches taller than Eugenides…” in KoA during the dance scene
“His usually dark skin was so pale the scar on his cheek showed against the lighter skin around it.” - during the assassination attempt
“Costis was sufficiently taller than the king…” - I think this is our first reference to Costis being very tall, but of course nowhere near our first reference to Gen being short.
“His face was pale, his normally dark skin yellowed.” - My note has nothing to do with his look, but the fact that his skin is usually dark but is now both pale AND visibly yellow makes me think his liver was damaged by the assassin and that’s why it took so long to heal.
“He chose Mede coats with the long bell sleeves because no fighting man who’d seen the muscles in the king’s wrist would have underestimated him the way the Attolians had. His other wrist with no hand at the end of it appeared oddly narrow and delicate. Costis tried not to stare and found himself looking instead at the king’s scars. The long line across his belly was an angry red, but there were other marks: ragged tears around his knees and elbows, and lighter shining bands around his ankles that could only be the mark of fetters, as well as the various lines left by edged blows on his chest and arms, and one long one on his thigh. There were also a number of bruises, some newly purple and black and some fading almost to nothing. Costis wondered where they could have come from.” - WHEW long description for the first time and its all about Gen’s scars.
“...skinny and prison pale, incongruous with the clean clothes the Magus had picked out for him.” - Sophos’ PoV from AcoK. This seems to imply that Gen is usually darker than he is in the Thief - which we’ve been told before, that he’s darker skinned but stints in prison and a number of serious injuries seem to frequently make him look sickly and pale - but also that he’s usually heavier - whether that means, like Sophos believes, that Gen is normally not as skinny or that he’s gained weight since becoming Attolis is anyone’s guess.
“I kept going until I could see his face, see every detail—the quirk of his eyebrow, the twist at the corner of his mouth, the mark on his cheek, where he’d said the Attolian guards had once shot him when he was running away…” - Kamet’s description of him.
“I remembered him as a boy, small for his age. I found him taller, broader in the shoulder, much older than the intervening years would explain, with a hook where his hand had been—wholly changed, in fact, but for the scar on his face and that smile.” - Gen is finally like a normal height lmao, but also he’s gotten bigger in general, which seems to imply IMO that re: Sophos’ assessment earlier, most of the weight (and likely muscle as Costis points outback in KoA) is the result of his time in Attolia and not weight he lost in jail. But whether THAT is due to him like, eating more potentially or having a different fighting style/routine that is bulking him up, or just a natural consequence of getting older or a combination of the two is again, your guess.
Helen:
“By far the least attractive of the women stood up.”
“She had black hair, like Attolia, and her gown was red velvet...tended to stand like a soldier. The ruffles on her shoulders made her arms seem long enough to reach to her knees. Her nose had been broken and reknitted crooked, her hair was cut short like a man’s and curled so much over her simple silver crown that crown itself was nearly invisible.” - all Gen’s point of view.
“She was short and too broad to be called petite. Her father had been broad shouldered, Attolia remembered, and not over-tall. Eddis had a serious expression.” - From QoA, in Irene’s pov. It seems the shortness of Gen is something that runs in the family.
“She’s ugly...she’s short, she’s broad-shouldered, and hawk-faced with a broken nose. I would say no, she is not ideal...I’ve seen men fall on their knees and get to walk across hot coals for her after one of those smiles.” - Gen talking about her with the Magus. I feel like it’s relevant that Gen calls her “the least attractive” when he’s with her, but only “ugly” when talking about her with other people.
“You look a little vulpine yourself.” - probably more a personality quirk than anything, but I still wanted to include it.
“Eddis reached to touch her own crooked nose. ‘If I laughed,’ she said, ‘it is only at the idea that we make a matched pair now, you and I.’” - for both her and Sophos here. Love flirting in the form of pointing out your irregularities, girl’s got game.
“The queen of Eddis is as beautiful as the day and as brilliant as the sun in the sky..he chuckled and quoted Praximeles about beauty being in the heart and not the eye..” - obviously Sophos’ opinion is colored by his love for her, but STILL, he does offer a description that she’s beautiful, is immediately contradicted by Akretenesh, and then basically thinks “it’s not my fault you’re stupid as fuck.”
Irene:
“Her hair was black and held away from her face by an imitation of the woven gold band of Hephestia. Her robe was draped like a peplos, made from embroidered red velvet. She was as tall as the magus, and she was more beautiful than any woman I had ever seen.” - Gen’s PoV in the Thief. We have a hint of his feelings for her in the way he describes her, and also there’s her Hephestia cosplay as well.
“Her hair was held away from her face by the ruby and gold headband that crossed her forehead just above her dark brows. Her skin was flawless and so fair as to be translucent. She dressed as always in an imitation of Hephestia.” - Gen calling out her Hephestia cosplay lmao. I also notice that she’s specifically not just “fair skinned” like Sophos or other Attolians, she’s described as almost weirdly pale.
Sophos:
I KNOW I forgot to mark a scene where Eugenides describes Sophos in TT as like...fair or pink-cheeked or something like that but I’ll be damned if I can find it.
“They were both obviously well bred...I wondered if they were brothers...the older one had darker hair and was better looking.” - obviously the older is Ambiades.
“One member of the crowd, a young man with a broken nose, a lip twisted by scar tissue, and dirty clothes that combined to suggest a person of violent and criminal habits…” - good description that also tells us that Useless the Younger looks significantly different since we saw him four books (and several years) ago. It’s not just that he’s older, or scarred, it’s that he *looks* dangerous now.
“I was taller than Malatesta by inches.” and “I wasn’t heavier than [Hyacinth] but I was taller and bore him to the ground.” - both give us an approximation of his height, weight, and strength.
“I felt my upper lip and rubbed my thumb against the scar tissue. I could feel it distorting my mouth. My nose had a new bump in the middle of it as well.” - scar healing badly
“Measuring myself against [The Magus], I realized we now saw eye to eye.” - considering several references to how tall The Magus is (which we’ll get to), this means Sophos is incredibly tall.
“...my hair all cut away and ragged.” and then they mention they dyed it. Once they get to Attolia however, “A barber came in to trim and shave us, taking off the last of my darker hair and leaving it tidy, if short.” So it’s gone back to his natural color, but this implies he usually wears his hair long.
There’s also a mention of him eating a lot, which isn’t a physical description, but does, IMO, imply something to his size - like how many sheer calories a lot of Olympic athletes have to eat a day.
“I smiled until I felt the scar tissue tighten...I had never let him see what I looked like when I smiled: my uncle.” - ICONIC.
ALSO - Sophos is frequently compared to animals. These animals include a lamb, lion, rabbit, bunny, puppy, and then back to lion.
Costis Ormentiedes:
I couldn’t find any description of him beyond a few references to him being tall in KoA which either means that I just missed it bc I got to emotional over KoA (which is likely) OR we don’t get a real description of Costis until TaT which is an interesting choice. ONWARDS:
“He was a very large Attolian…” - Kamet’s first impression of Costis, yet again reminding us how big Costis is
“He was a typical Attolian: sandy-brown hair, a broad face, light-colored eyes. Altogether he had a simple, straightforward look to him, and he seemed perfectly serious.” - gives us a general idea of what Attolians as a people look like.
“He was large, as I already knew, and a soldier. He had the scars on his hands and forearms and the unmistakable muscles from swinging a sword day in and day out. I had no doubt he was good at what he did - he rather reminded me of an ox, very strong, not terribly quick - but I thought killing was his work, not his pleasure….he moved easily, so he was no veteran crippled’s in his country’s service, but he was too young to have done his twenty years - my own age, or perhaps younger.” - Lots of information here from Kamet. The ones that stick out to me are: moves easily, which means Costis has likely not even been minorly injured before, but he has scars, which of course means he’s had a lot of flesh wounds. The other thing is that Kamet instinctively knows that Costis doesn’t like killing - I don’t know if that means Kamet is a good judge of character or if there’s something about Costis, whether it be the way he carries himself, or something physically like his expressions, his youth, his eyes, that tells Kamet this, but it *could* be something physical.
Kamet makes several references to Costis being hot lmao. He uses the word “attractive” several times in several different chapters and others agree with this assessment.
“She sent him to the potter to see if he could use a young man with a strong back.” - more comments about how ripped Costis is.
Kamet
Couldn’t find any description of Kamet in QoA, and he doesn’t really describe himself in TaT. I’m worried I missed something, but this is what I found:
“Normally as warm-toned as myself…” - Kamet comparing his own skin tone (undertone?) to Laela’s.
He also describes himself as small and skinny compared to Costis several times - once saying his face is roughly at level with Costis’ chest - and mentions flogging scars on his back.
EDIT: THANK YOU FOR COMMENTS, we get this like in QoA about Kamet: “The slave’s almond shaped eyes and red-brown complexion set him apart from the Attolians.”
—————
Not sure how to end this but anyway that’s what we’re given for the main PoVs. Surprisingly, we get more description for Helen than we do for Irene, and barely any for Kamet. There were some things that I had misremembered - I thought Gen was described as “brown skinned” but instead it’s “dark skinned” or “dark coloring” and I thought he described Helen as ugly more than once, but it’s just to the Magus, when they’re discussing Sounis’ potential marriage, which is....interesting to me, and sounds a lot more like Gen trying to downplay his cousin so the Magus will fuck off, especially when he offers Agape as an alternative that is, notably, prettier and also holds significantly less power. I also thought Costis was described as “blonde” or “fair haired” like Sophos but instead he’s “sandy brown” and I think the idea of him being Blonde was a fandom thing that I just misremembered.

Long Time Coming
I’ve kept my mouth shut on this for a very long time.
Last year I cut ties with an incredibly toxic player in the FFXIV community. Most of you know them as either Yosei Ittetsu or Vincent Arius.
Sometime around the end of September/beginning of October I ended a long running RP Ship with the player and quit his FC. This came after months of gas lighting, lying, manipulation, and just down right being used.
I’d spent some time getting to know them and their RL Partner so as to get the blessing to ship our characters together as Koa’s (the name the player goes by) partner didn’t feel comfortable with them shipping with anyone but themselves.
I later learned that once I got the approval to ship with Koa, that they then went behind my back and their partner’s back and attempted to ship with other people under the guise of “I’ve been allowed to multi ship”. The timeline for that was around Mayish of 2019.
Throughout the tenure of our friendship and RP, Koa insisted OOCly that their partner was abusive and controlling. Something I have come to doubt. A partner feeling uncomfortable with their SO shipping/ERPing with other people isn’t all that uncommon or unreasonable.
That being said, Koa would share screenshots with myself and others of fights they would have with their partner, carefully cropped to show certain parts of the fight that would cast their partner in the worst light. So naturally, we believed him.
So other friends and I agreed to help Koa ship/ERP in secret because we wanted to find a way to give them autonomy over themself. I regret this. Not only because it was incredibly disrespectful to a RL relationship, but because of the hurt it eventually caused other people later on.
This is going to get wordy, so please bear with me as I place the rest under a read me.
Koa and I agreed to a poly ship. One that would include myself, their RL partner’s character, and a third--my friend Noise. The agreement with the ship was that Tegah, Gan, and Noise would all be a “Table” poly setting and each could have extraneous partners if--and only if--we were comfortable with it OOC and our characters were comfortable with it IC. Meaning, there needed to be communication. This agreement extended only to the three as Koa stressed that they were only shipping with their RL partner to keep OOC peace and because they felt obligated to.
Very quickly things became very odd. I say that because often times Koa would wait until I needed to go to bed, and/or their RL partner would be at work (they worked nights) to initiate ship or ERP related RP. And if I was around for any of that RP, I was always shoved to the side and made to feel more like an accessory than an actual RP partner.
I tried several times to address this with Koa only to be gaslit and told that he was the one always feeling left out because he had to work around the confines of his “Abusive” RL partner and because Gan and Noise had a more in-depth story driven background with one another and knew each other better than Yosei and Noise knew each other.
My complaints would be invalidated and I’d always end up trying to help Koa find ways to solve their issues. Only for the circle to repeat itself.
Twice my character Gan found external partners. Both times I made sure going forward that both Koa and Noise were okay with it. And I was given their blessings. Both times, Koa attempted to insert their character into the relationship and sleep with the partner. The first one was successful. The second time not so much.
As time progressed, it became more and more clear that Koa’s main focus was drawing attention to themself and ERP. Mostly the latter if I’m being honest. Every time I turned around, I was learning of a new character that Yosei was gunning for and trying to sleep with. And it was always played off as a joke until it actually happened.
At some point one of the infatuations turned into another possible ship partner for the group. This is where Batu, one of my dearest friends comes in to the story. Koa had been selling Batu to Noise and I under the understanding that Batu was happy to simply be a fling/fuck buddy for the group. Meanwhile, he was selling to Batu the story that the group was looking for a 4th member. All the while neglecting to explain the truth to Batu as to how the ship worked despite him asking IC and OOC.
One very awkward night of RP where Gan brought over her side partner and Koa made many pointed comments about how we should all have an Orgy. (Which their RL partner asked about and Koa flat out lied to them). Batu learned how the ship worked on and IC and OOC level and had revealed that he’d been lied to the entire time. Or at the very least, misled.
So Batu decided to leave the group on an IC basis. Naturally, feelings were hurt OOC. And very much so IC as Gan and Batu had begun to fall for one another, and Noise and Batu were starting to grow close.
During this period of time, Batu ICly went to the Steppes to deal with the loss. Tegah/Yosei’s solution was to “fuck away the sad”. Because... yeah.
At this time an FC member had their character go check on Batu and inform him of some RP stuff that had left Gan unwell. Batu returned and relationships were able to be repaired between Batu, Gan, and Noise. Batu expressed OOC that there was no desire to attempt with Koa again as he’d left feeling very used IC and OOC.
Naturally the characters did run into one another and it ended in conflict at which point Koa decided to metagame. He chose that moment to decide that it was his character that sent our FC member after Batu. There’d been no discussion over the course of the two weeks that all this had happened. Koa had just decided on the spot, something that was verified by the FC member.
When called out, Koa lied about meta-gaming. We even offered up logs to which he still lied and denied, saying they’d been talking about it for a while. Our FC member firmly refutes this and gave us logs to support.
At that point, after months of being pushed to the side for other RP’s, gaslit regarding my issues, lied to, etc, I decided to end my RP partnership with Koa. I offered to stay around for the FC as I was the one running events and pushing for things to happen. But the day after that decision, Koa decided that we’d been leading the FC in the wrong direction (Despite being the one to tell us to go in that RP route) and that he wasn’t happy with how things were going.
Admittedly, I took this as a stab at me. Because I was the one running events, the one trying to keep things active for our FC members, and had suggested stepping back from Suisei Ramen the first time as there would be no way to balance it, FC RP, and personal RP all at once. It was then that I closed the book on all ties with Koa. I wanted nothing to do with them IC or OOC. He was immediately blocked from all my social media accounts and all websites I’d hosted on behalf of him and his FC were handed over.
This is where things become most important. Months after the fact, Koa openly admitted in a google doc he was spreading around in an attempt to defame me, that he’d been stalking my accounts either personally or through mutuals looking for anything he could use against me.
I--in my naivety--had kept my mouth shut for the most part in the hopes that we could end things amicably and just move on. Almost a year later and I’m making this post because I’m still being harassed by Koa.
Since October of 2019, Koa has attempted to stir the pot time and again. Trying to oust me from RP communities. defame me, accuse me of plagiarism. (Most of this was while knowing I was heavily pregnant IRL and under a lot of stress) As recently as July 5, 2020, this person has been trying to cause issues. On the date mentioned, he attempted to insert himself into RP with Noise and I. Both of us have expressly stated we want nothing to do with him and want him to leave us alone and knowing that, still tried to put himself in our small group of RP.
Since leaving Koa, a lot of things have come to light. First and foremost, he was badmouthing me to my closest friends. Insisting I had an OOC affair going with a ship partner of mine. I’m married IRL. Koa knew this. And knowing this, attempted to spread that lie to push people away from me. Specifically, my friend Batu who was the one he told this to.
He blamed Batu’s IC/OOC departure on me, because I was uncomfortable with a concept he was trying to push for the second time. The concept being to have his character Yosei/Tegah gender swap to a woman and sleep with Gan’s partner. The first time it occurred was with a side relationship Gan had with another player. Koa wanted to have their character gender swap, sleep with Gan’s partner without the character knowing and possibly get pregnant. When asked about my opinion, I expressed that I wasn’t all that thrilled with it and that Gan would be angry/jealous. To which he insisted I was wrong and that Gan would find it funny.
The second instance was because Batu had more interest in Gan than Tegah/Yosei. At which point Koa decided it would be fun to try and force a race between his character and Gan as to who would have our ship partner Noise’s children first, knowing that there was a plot point set up for when that would inevitably happen. Again he adamantly stated that Gan wouldn’t be upset and find it funny, and that if she didn’t want it to happen she should just get pregnant back to back with each partner’s children. (At this time she was supposed to be pregnant with Yosei/Tegah’s baby. A fact that I later retconned.)
Koa continually went behind mine and all our ship partners backs to ERP with other characters. Ship with other characters. Shit talk me, and other people. When he’d be denied ERP, he’d turn and try to convince people that the person in question was actually after HIM for ERP and not the other way around.
Many people have come forward to me with information regarding his behavior. Unfortunately I don’t have permission to share their stories as they’ve asked to be left out of any public call outs.
All I can safely share are these logs here
Koa/Yosei/Tegah/Vincent Arius is nothing more than a toxic individual obsessed with ERP, Attention, and playing victim as much as possible. Almost a year later and he is still harassing me, blaming me when things go wrong, defaming, and causing me drama. I’ve had enough. If even ONE person finds comfort in knowing they aren’t the only one he’s caused problems for, then it’ll be worth it.
And as always, I’m more than happy to answer any questions regarding this post that people might have. I’d love to share more logs and screencaps, but I do respect people’s privacy and I still don’t want to shit on their RL relationship any more than revealing this stuff will do.

Okay this may seem silly or unnecessarily maudlin but with all the excitement for the release of rott I'm also feeling a bit of grief? How do I explain it?
I do not say that this is my favourite series lightly. I was your stereotypically lonely bookish kid who grew into a similar sort of adult, stories are all I have and I have had so so many stories, but these are still undoubtedly my favourite. And picking up the first 3 queen's thief books in middle school over a decade ago, shortly after koa had been released? That was life changing, changing the way I read and think about stories, and perhaps as I grew and changed, changing things in my heart as well with each reread .
And that is why I grieve? I don't want it to be over. And more than that, these past few weeks where everyone has been collectively rereading and there is so much delightful fanart and meta going around? There has been such a sense of camaraderie and community and it has been so lovely and good. I fear once the hype for rott is over it will be gone.
Regardless, I know I'll be rereading these, equal parts aching and delighted, into old age, and I am so grateful to Ms. Turner for them.
