thinking about suga’s conflict management skills in the classroom after handling hinata, kageyama, tanaka, and nishinoya. thinking about a little girl approaching him, big smile on her face, as she tells him that two boys are throwing mud at each other on the playground. suga, exasperated, now rushing to the playground, thinking about how he used to be exactly like that girl when he was younger. but now he’s the teacher and has to go stop them, no time to enjoy the absolute delight of dropping a problem right into someone else’s lap.

hinata shōyō
to hinata, you probably stand out more than you’d think
idk why but i love love love the concept of hinata having like a completely opposite s/o kagehina. as in, i can see him so well with an alt!s/o or a goth!s/o. i can’t explain it it just works so well in my head
the fact that you were so mysterious and quiet really, and i mean really, peaked his interest. unlike literally any other character, he is nosy, and he wants to know why and how and when and who you are, so he does make effort to talk to you often
you always kinda just smile at him and give him one word replies. it’s not that you don’t like him, it’s more that you’re here for a reason and you don’t want him to get caught up in the middle of it all. you’d hate for something to happen to someone as pure as him
your attitude towards does not throw him off in the least. he’ll just want to get to know you even more
one of his upperclassmen, like tanaka or noya, probably notice and try telling him things about you to kinda back him off of you because they’re scared of you lowkey
ik i used this scenario before but it fits hinata too; we all know he stays late to practice often, so it isn’t a surprise or it isn’t too odd that he stays yet another day until the sun has long since set. you’d only known he was in the volleyball club in passing, but you didn’t know him well enough to anticipate that he’d be in the gym this late
the most remote place, and the closest too, that you could think of at literally nine pm was the boys’ gymnasium, so you’d led the curse there in hopes of driving it away from other people around it. you hadn’t expected that you’d be leading the curse straight to another target
hinata was the only one there, too, so it wouldn’t be too difficult to attack him
one moment, he’s just tossing the ball against the wall and receiving it, the next the gymnasium is being broken into by some creature from above, followed by you and your angry yells
you were really focused on the curse, prepared to battle it and exorcise it, before you finally spot him. he’s frozen, the ball dropped from his hand and rolling away from him. the way he’s staring at you, and the way he keeps eyeing the creature in fear, it clicks something in you, you don’t know what
but you don’t give the curse a chance to even try and attack, immediately charging at it and exorcising it quickly, defeating it right away. it dies away with an agonizing yell and you’re pretty sure this’ll count as trauma for the poor kid before he rushes towards you, grasping your wrists and staring at you like you just hung the moon in the sky
“what the hell was that that was so cool oh my god can you do it again can you teach me how to do it you are so badass —“
like baby breathe omg
even the way you laughed at him was intimidatingly hot he was a goner !!!
now that he knows of your nature, it attaches him to your hip. you can’t get rid of him anymore but it’s okay he’s literally sunshine in human form
as a duo, and as romantic partners, you really are complete opposites, but that’s why you fit so well together you know!
if you can conjure up something like the divine dogs like megumi, expect him to constantly pester you for them <3
kuroo tetsurō
listen, he knew you were a little odd from the moment you joined nekoma. like there was no doubt about it there was something off about you. he had some type of feeling that you weren’t really here for the education you know?
but the rational side of him convinced himself he wanted to live in some type of movie so he dropped it
he does try to get to know you, though, yeah, of course he had to fall for that one person that no one knows anything about
kuroo’s just trynna be the main character lmfao
with kuroo, he actually succeeds in growing closer to you. i mean who can resist him? no one
it starts off simple, he’d invite you to games, sit with you during lunch, before it escalates more into walking you home some days, inviting you over during weekend games, inviting you over at outings with his friends
more often than not, especially when said outings happened during nighttime, you’d decline. he didn’t really think much of it though, he just let you be, you know?
then, one time, you decide to go for it.
he invites you out to the movies with some of the vbc boys, and you accept. you figure you being gone for a few hours won’t hurt anyone, and it wasn’t like there aren’t any other jujutsu sorcerers available in tokyo. it’s a big city, you rationalize
halfway through the movie, something feels off, and as a sorcerer, you know to trust your gut instinct, so you excuse yourself to the bathroom to check the area out. kuroo, having felt like something wasn’t right with you, and being slightly worried himself, goes after you.
turns out you were right. two people had already died by the time you come to the alleyway behind the theatre, and there’s a curse hovering by their bodies. you’re slower to react because of the initial shock, and when you see kuroo coming out of the same backdoor you’d just left out of, your body entirely freezes
until the curse jumps to attack him, and in a flash, you’re by his side, kicking away at the curse, watching as it smashes roughly against a wall
kuroo’s immediately asking questions, but you can’t exactly focus on him at the moment. you prioritize eliminating and exorcising the curse first, and when that’s done and dusted, you lead kuroo away from the theatre
he’s very shaken by the whole scene, especially after having seen two corpses
that night, you lead him to your home, and he stays there. he keeps you up all night, but it’s understandable. throughout it all, you reassure him of his safety constantly, telling him that you’d never let anyone or anything ever hurt him
it’s what brings you two closer together
because that incident had been his introduction to that specific world, he grows very wary anytime you’re sent out on missions, but you always come back home to him, and that’s what matters <3
tsukishima kei
please tsukki with a crush is hilarious cause he’s so bad at expressing his feelings
you’re actually really similar to him in that you’re quiet and that you don’t really appreciate talking and conversing to others. you tend to keep to yourself, and he really respects that, like deep down
he thought you were just a really timid person until he snaps at you once and you snap back. and then it was like everything that has ever happened to him led to this moment right here because what the fucsjdhwf
the fact that he recognized his feelings for you kinda made him even warier of you. like his scowl is deeper and his bite is harsher, but that’s really only because he does not know how to deal with these emotions. like he has a bad way of expressing them correctly
you two build this small relationship between you. it’s like a teasing thing, where it’s literally just all bark and no bite. it’s lowkey fun, and you grow to appreciate his presence
he doesn’t really question it when you miss days of schools, or when you return the days after that all bandaged and bruised. he figures it’s not his business to ask questions like that, and just continues to observe you from afar
anyways! one night he’s walking home, all alone, peacefully, before he sees you dash by him, being chased by??? what the fuck is that???
tsukki just pauses, but he’s not even like scared or worried he’s just confused and a little amused tbh. he stands in place while his eyes follow your movements as you allow the creature to chase at you, before you make a sharp turn and hit it, sending it flying back
except, you hadn’t realized the direction you’d hit it at
the curse goes flying at tsukki, and he’s just staring at it like, “hm,” not moving an inch. he’s trynna give you an aneurysm on god
you scream at him to move, but you’re already rushing towards him. as soon as you can, you throw your arms around him and topple him to the ground. you land on top of him, but you don’t get to see his flustered face because you’re off of him way too soon, taking care of the issue at hand
he’s a little surprised at the reason you’re always cut up and bruised, but he can’t say he’s not even a little amazed at just,,, how cool you seem
he’s still on the ground lol and you hit him with “i hope you’re not waiting for me to pick you up.”
“it is your fault i’m on the ground to begin with.”
you help him up
with an eye roll of course
when he’s standing again before you, he just sighs and lifts a finger to his face, as if to indicate to your face. then he says, “that explains all this then,” referring to the bruises painting your skin
your relationship doesn’t change much for a while after that, except that knowing glance he gives you every time you walk into class exhausted
likes to call it monster hunting for some reason
clearly you’re the only one out of the two of you with any balls because you’re the one that confesses. thanks for saving him the trouble hehe
he’ll never tell you to your face, but he thinks he is incredibly lucky to have someone as badass as you as his s/o
kozume kenma
kenma probably took note of your exceptional situation for a few, but he didn’t give it much thought initially. like so what if you were super secretive? not like anyone knew much of him himself
it’s not until kuroo or someone points out like, “they’re quite odd, right?” that he starts to pay attention, but he’s not sure why
maybe he’s trying to convince himself and others that you’re not really odd for being the way that you are. just secretive and mysterious and introverted. like. does that make him odd?
he starts to notice things like you staying after school for late, late hours, but not because you’re a part of any club, and things like your missing of school, or how your knuckles are always, always bandaged and wrapped, or how you seemed to be at the oddest of locations at the oddest of times
it’s not really like him to be too interested in what you do, so he doesn’t invest all his thoughts and energy into. he does though dwell over it for a lot longer than you’d think
sometimes, kenma takes a console of his, and heads up his rooftop, because it just feels really safe where nobody and nothing can get to him
he’s proven wrong one night when, in the middle of the game, he hears thumps across the rooftop. he thinks he’s being tricked by the game he’s playing, until he feels something behind him, until the hairs on the nape of his neck stand and a shive runs down his spine because there is something breathing down his neck
and then he hears your all too familiar voice whispering out, “don’t move, please.”
it’s honestly not like he could
he sees you from the corner of his eye move in a flash, and suddenly, when the feeling is gone, he finds himself able to move again, and he turns around
it honestly looks like a scene from a movie, what he’s staring at. you battle the curse so well, and kenma is fully and shamelessly enamored by you and the way you moved so swiftly and efficiently, as you dodge and attack, and as you finally exorcise
like he’s so in awe he has to pinch himself to convince himself he’s not dreaming
when the curse is taken care of, you just slowly approach him, kneeling by his side and asking in a soft voice if he was okay. he decided then and there that no, you were not odd at all. you just saved his life, so,,,
you urge him to go back inside, to stay safe, and he just nods as you lead the way to his window. and when he slips inside, for some reason, he finds it in himself to ask you to stay too
to stay safe, of course
it takes you by surprise a little, but at the genuineness in his eyes, you accept, and stay up playing games with him
and when you greet him in school the next day with a smile and a wave, kenma returns it, just as brightly <3

Excess Energy {KageHina}
Tumblr media
A/N: ahhh hinata is definitely the kind of person who would get easily obsessed with a pumpkin spice latte, haha! this prompt is perfect for him and kageyama, thanks anon for sending it in, I had a lot of fun with it!
Summary: Hinata orders yet another pumpkin spice latte, but it ends up giving him a lot of energy. What can anyone possibly do to bring his energy levels down?
Word Count: 1.2k (under the cut)
Hinata practically skipped into the gym, holding a coffee cup in one hand and his volleyball bag in the other. He took another sip of the drink, caffeine rushing through him as he shivered a bit. His tiny body probably couldn’t handle the largest drink size possible, but that wasn’t any means of stopping him from ordering it.
He opened the doors of the gym, yelling “Good morning, everyone!!” at such a high volume that Yachi covered her ears on the opposite side of the gym. Tanaka yelled back.
“Stop yelling!”
“You’re too loud!” Nishinoya shouted as well, and they were both promptly hit over the head by Sugawara, who whispered loudly.
“Both of you… shut up.”
Kageyama walked over to Hinata, arms crossed as Hinata looked up at him, beaming.
“Good morning, Kageyama!” He said, his voice still loud enough to echo through the gym as Kageyama stood in front of him. He glanced at the cup in his hand and sighed, rubbing the bridge of his nose as he shook his head.
“Please tell me you didn’t get another pumpkin spice latte…” Kageyama groaned, peeking at Hinata through his hand as Hinata shook his head vigorously, his smile never fading even a bit.
“What size?”
“Venti!” He said, again echoing through the gym, where everyone collectively groaned in exhaustion. There was only so much Hinata everyone could take, especially when he’s that heavily caffeinated.
“That’s the third time this week, Hinata, you’re gonna burn yourself out with all that energy!” Sugawara called, his tone similar to that of a worried mother. Daichi sighed and nodded his head.
“You should listen to Sugawara… plus those aren’t very good for you in such large amounts,” Daichi agreed, his tone similar to that of a father.
Nishinoya and Tanaka chuckled together at Daichi and Sugawara, something that they miraculously didn’t notice.
Hinata cocked his head innocently to the side, his eyes mirroring that of a puppy as his lip pouted slightly in confusion. Kageyama felt his cheeks warm; he would never get used to his boyfriend’s face.
“But the energy is good for practice, isn’t it? And besides, it’s not like I’m getting it every day,” Hinata said, his voice a tad quieter than before.
Sugawara and Daichi shared a glance with each other, both shrugging.
“You’re gonna get sick, your tiny little shrimp body can’t handle all that sugar and caffeine,” Kageyama said flatly, looking down at Hinata who looked up at him with a look of betrayal on his face.
“Kageyama!” He wailed, stomping his foot. Kageyama smirked faintly.
“It’s true.”
Hinata pouted, stomping away from Kageyama and setting his bag down, chugging the rest of his latte and throwing the cup in the garbage. He changed quickly in the closet, coming out in his practice clothes and ready to begin, still full of energy.
Practice went as it normally did… sort of. Hinata was so full of energy that his spikes constantly went out of bounds, scoring a grand total of zero points every time he was set up to spike. Annoyed, Kageyama pulled him off to the side after they took a quick break.
“This is why you can’t have that much caffeine, you can’t even play right! You’re too energized!”
“It’s not my fault! They’re just so yummy!” Hinata retorted, crossing his arms as he pouted. Kageyama sighed.
“We need to get rid of that excess energy. The question is how?”
Hinata groaned, throwing his arms down in annoyance. “I don’t need to get rid of the excess energy, it’ll go away while we practice!”
“We’ve been practicing for thirty minutes and you still can’t spike like a sane person!”
Hinata couldn’t argue with that, he really hadn’t been doing too good in terms of his performance, and so far the only thing they could blame it on was the pumpkin spice latte.
An idea popped into Kageyama’s head, and he smirked deviously.
“I think I know how to get rid of that excess energy now, Hinata…”
Hinata gulped at the sudden change of aura, slowly looking up at Kageyama who looked down at him, an evil look on his face. Hinata slowly backed away, holding his hands up in defense as Kageyama followed him, cracking his knuckles.
“K-Kageyama, I don’t know what you’re planning but it’s not gonna work, it’s just gonna have to wear off eventually!” Hinata squeaked out, hitting the wall of the gym as Kageyama continued to close in on him.
“Oh I think it’s going to work great, especially on you,” Kageyama said, his tone menacing as Hinata immediately tried to scramble away, Kageyama chasing after him. Unlucky for Hinata, Kageyama had gotten a lot faster lately and he was able to easily catch up to Hinata, right in the middle of the gym as he tackled him to the ground.
“Oof! Kageyama, what are you doing- Ahh! Waahahahahahahait, not that!”
Hinata laughed loudly as soon as he felt two hands scribbling along his sides, digging into his sensitive flesh as it sent electric currents of ticklish sensations all over his body, making him squirm as he laughed.
“Get him, Kageyama!” Tanaka yelled from the side.
Kageyama grinned uncharacteristically at Tanaka’s encouragement, digging his fingers harder into Hinata, making him yelp before laughing harder than before. He wiggled his fingers up and down Hinata’s waist and sides, occasionally poking Hinata’s tummy which made him jump and squeal every time he did.
“KAgeyamahahahaaha! DohohohoHOHON’T! AaHA! Stohohohohohop!” He whined through his cackles, shaking his head from side to side as his cheeks reddened, tears pricking the corners of his eyes.
“Don’t stop? Alright, if you insist,” Kageyama teased, drumming his fingers along Hinata’s ribs as he arched his back, letting out a shriek.
“Should we… intervene?” Sugawara asked, nudging Daichi’s shoulder gently. Daichi shook his head, and Sugawara hesitantly nodded, turning his attention back to the two boys.
Hinata tried to crawl away, pushing at Kageyama with his hands and pulling himself away from the evil tickler. Kageyama quickly darted his hands under Hinata’s arms, halting him as Hinata threw his head back, laughing hysterically.
“KAHAHAHAhahahageyamaaaa! Stohohohop it!” He screamed through his laughter, rising in pitch as he kicked his legs out, gluing his arms to his sides in an attempt to get rid of the horrible feelings, but only trapping Kageyama’s hands.
Kageyama pulled one hand out from under Hinata’s arm, reaching down and squeezing his hip, Hinata instantly bucking as a reaction, letting out a high pitched shriek as he continued to laugh hysterically.
His face was bright red now, and tears were starting to form in his eyes, one trickling down his cheek. Kageyama felt his own cheeks warm at the sight of Hinata’s flushed face, and it distracted him to the point where he didn’t even realize he was tickling Hinata anymore.
“Kageyama, I think that’s enough,” Sugawara called from the side of the gym, knocking Kageyama out of his trance. Kageyama halted his fingers, pulling his hands back as Hinata panted heavily underneath him, greedily taking in all of the oxygen that he had lost.
“How are your energy levels?” Kageyama asked awkwardly, trying to fill the silence as he felt the stares of everyone in the gym on him.
“Gone,” Hinata wheezed, completely exhausted. Kageyama nodded.
“Good, maybe now you’ll play normally.”
Hinata glared at Kageyama and stood up, dusting himself off. He crossed his arms as he stood over Kageyama.
“Then you better give me some good serves.”

The Trial of Shoyo Hinata’s Rising Heartrate, Witness Three: Tanaka
Can also be read on AO3!
Rating: T (just for language)
Fandom: Haikyuu!!
Pairing: Kagehina (Kageyama/Hinata)
Characters: Ryuunosuke Tanaka, Shoyo Hinata, Yu Nishinoya, Chikara Ennoshita, Hisashi Kinoshita, Kazuhito Narita
Word Count: 1,794
Summary: Ever since Kageyama and Hinata were first banned from the gym by Daichi, Tanaka had found himself taking the troublesome crows under his wings. But he still doesn't understand why he can't stop worrying about the first years' fight.
A/N: Author’s notes can be read on AO3.
Tanaka was no stranger to fights.
Well, no, that wasn’t quite right. For all his posturing, he’d never actually been in a fight. He’d gotten close a few times, but a threatening tap of his fist to his palm usually got his message across fine. And while disagreements were bound to arise within the team every now and again, he’d never seen an actual fight break out. The closest they’d come was the argument between Nishinoya and Asahi, and thankfully Tanaka had managed to hold the libero back before he tried to cause any real damage.
Which was why he’d reacted so instinctively when he followed Yachi into the gym just in time to see Kageyama fling Hinata to the floor, only for Hinata to throw himself back into the fight as recklessly as he went after Kageyama’s tosses. In the few seconds he’d seen, Tanaka knew this went beyond any other argument the first years had had before, and even went beyond any regular fistfight. There was real, tangible hurt and betrayal between the two, and his fresh instincts as a senpai made him put a stop to it as quickly and efficiently as he could.
So he punched them. And he didn’t regret it. His punches got the job done, after all.
But still…the emotions he’d seen the previous night weren’t something that would go away in the single day they had off. He wasn’t some sort of expert on emotions or anything, but he had a bad feeling their animosity would leak into the next day’s practice, and they only had a few weeks until the Spring Qualifiers.
“Ryuu.”
Those punks were at the center of their attack. If they couldn’t get their shit together, then…Tanaka would never say it out loud, but he really didn’t know if they could pull off the victories needed to go to Nationals.
“Ryuu?”
He wished he had Daichi’s calm state of mind and firm faith in the team. Maybe that was something that came with being the captain.
“Ryuu!!”
“Earth to Tanaka!”
He snapped out of his thoughts and found Nishinoya, Ennoshita, Kinoshita, and Narita staring at him, all in the middle of big bites of their lunches. “Huh?”
“Geez, man,” Nishinoya mumbled around his mouthful. “What’s up with you? You never zone out like that.”
“Sorry, I was just…did you guys hear about the fight between Hinata and Kageyama?”
“I overheard you telling the third years about it,” Ennoshita said. His eyes were on Tanaka, but he still managed to catch Nishinoya’s chopsticks before the libero could help himself to a sausage from his bento. “I don’t get it, was it any worse than their usual arguments?”
“Yeah, bruh, they were throwing each other to the ground and everything! It was crazy, Yachi thought they were going to kill each other.”
“Probably would’ve,” Kinoshita sighed. Tanaka couldn’t really see him around Narita perched on his desk, but he could imagine the chagrin on the blonde’s face. “You’d think those two hate each other if they weren’t attached to the hip.”
Narita hummed at that. “They didn’t look very attached this morning. They wouldn’t even look at each other, it was weird.”
“What’d Daichi-san say?”
Tanaka shrugged at Nishinoya. “He said they’d be fine. Said it’s not the first time they fought, and they’ve gotten over humps before. But I dunno, man…I don’t think he’d be so confident if he’d seen it himself.”
“No, that wouldn’t change,” Ennoshita murmured, “He’d still have faith in them, that’s how the Captain is.”
“So you need faith, too, Ennoshita!”
The look he pinned Nishinoya under was deeply unimpressed. “Shut up. Are you clowns done with your lunches? You gotta leave those desks soon.”
A chorus of groans rose from the group, before Tanaka, Nishinoya, and Narita obediently cleared out. After they parted ways with Narita in the hallway, Nishinoya slung an arm around Tanaka’s shoulders, tugging him into an awkward half-crouch as they walked back to their classroom. “Quit worrying about them, dude! They’ll be alright, like Daichi said.”
“Yeah...I guess we’ll see, huh?”
For the rest of the day, and the next school day, that was all Tanaka needed to ease his mind and forget about the fight. After all, Daichi was right - those two had gotten into arguments before, had entered the team practically at each other’s throats. There was no reason they wouldn’t bounce back from this, maybe even faster than they had before.
When Hinata bowed in apology to him before practice started the next day, Tanaka really thought everything was ok. The first year looked chipper as always, ready to play his hardest and push the rest of the team along with him.
Then Coach Ukai announced he would be playing with Sugawara instead of Kageyama. And the freak duo passed each other to opposite sides of the court without so much as looking at each other.
Shit.
Hinata still played well. Better than well. Tanaka didn’t know what he did with the team’s day off, but he could tell that it must’ve had something to do with volleyball.
And yet...something was off. For all his smiles and energy, he was strangely quiet. Any time he wasn’t actively playing or responding to a plan for the next rally, he seemed to draw into himself, clearly preoccupied with…something.
Tanaka could barely understand the odd, volatile, intuitive bond between the freak duo, and he didn’t really know what he could say to help them fix the fracture that had formed. But when the team got ready to split up for individual practice, he found himself approaching Hinata at the edge of the court. “Hey, Hinata.”
The first year looked up from where he was stretching on the floor. “Yeah, Tanaka-san?”
“Listen, I…I know fighting with a teammate sucks. Especially when you’re working together as much as you and Kageyama.” Or Nishinoya and Asahi. He couldn’t forget the days after Asahi left the team, when the barest mention of his name made the libero turn stiff and silent. “But it happens, man. And you’ll always have the rest of the team. We’ll be with you on the court, and we’ve got your back off the court, too.”
Hinata’s wide eyes became downcast as Tanaka spoke, and when he replied, his words were directed to the floor. “Thanks, Tanaka-san…but I dunno if I’ll even be on the court if Kageyama won’t toss to me.”
“Nah, he will!” Tanaka plopped down on the floor next to Hinata, joining him in stretching. “Kageyama’s an idiot, and he’s stubborn as hell, but man, does that guy know the game. He won’t mess it up because of a fight.”
“But then he’ll only toss the same toss that he always has, and I won’t be able to choose the path of the ball, and we’ll get blocked out again.” Hinata’s hands clenched against the floorboards, and when he looked up, Tanaka was startled by the cold focus in those usually-warm brown eyes. “I wanna fight for us on my own terms. I know I can do it. But it’ll never happen if Kageyama won’t believe in me. He’s my partner, and he doesn’t believe in me.”
Partners, huh? Tanaka was suddenly reminded of a conversation he’d stumbled across between Suga and Daichi at the beginning of the year. They hadn’t noticed him because Daichi’s eyes had been pressed behind his hands, and Suga’s eyes had been fixed on the new captain, hands gentle on his shoulders. It didn’t take long before Tanaka had felt too guilty to keep eavesdropping, but he’d heard one thing in particular from Suga that had stuck with him ever since.
“We’re partners, Daichi. On and off the court. So quit trying to handle everything by yourself and let me help.”
There was a stubborn pride in Hinata’s eyes where Suga’s had held gentle care…but their gazes did share a sense of yearning, an almost-desperate entreaty to their partners.
Tanaka knew Hinata hadn’t used “partners” with the same meaning as Suga did. But as he listened to the first year talk, he wondered if maybe it did hold the same meaning, and Hinata just had no idea yet. “He does believe in you, man. I think he’s just scared of messing with what’s worked so well. Maybe if you keep working at it by yourself, get some tips from Coach and stuff, he’ll come around. It’s happened before, and it already seems like he’s getting his ass in gear to improve his tosses.”
Hinata finally grinned at that. “I’m way ahead of you, Tanaka-san! I got Coach to help me out yesterday.”
“Yesterday. On our day off.”
“Yep!” He bounced to his feet, the pride in his eyes shining warmer with his smile. “I realized I need to get better at hitting all sorts of tosses. That way Kageyama will know that I can hit any toss he sends me!”
Tanaka could only hope his bemused disbelief didn’t show in the grin that crept across his face. “You really care about what he thinks, don’tcha?”
“Yeah! If I’m gonna beat him, then I have to be good with and without him. I have to be good by myself so I can keep playing with him.”
“That’s the spirit!” Tanaka cheered, slower to push himself to his feet. “But y’know…it’s not so bad to be ignored sometimes.” The look of pure confusion Hinata pinned on him didn’t hold any judgment, but Tanaka could still feel embarrassment creep through him. “Not on the court! Just, y’know, like how whenever Kiyoko-san ignores me, I feel extra pumped up! Even though I know she doesn’t mean anything by it.”
The small confused frown curving Hinata’s lips wasn’t making Tanaka feel any better. “Yeah, but…don’t you have a crush on her? That’s different from how it feels when Kageyama’s being a jerk.”
Oh. He really has no idea. He’s absolutely clueless. Fuck. “R-right,” Tanaka stammered. “Yeah, it’s different, sure. Forget I said anything.”
Hinata looked like he was going to ask another question, before his attention was distracted by Coach Ukai’s call for him. “Coming, Coach!” He ran off with a final smile for Tanaka, who was left standing dumbly with his bottle held limp in his hand.
So. Hinata definitely had a crush on Kageyama. And had no idea. And no one else had ever mentioned anything to Tanaka, beyond the usual musings over the way the first years bickered constantly and still managed to play like lifelong partners. Which meant Tanaka was likely the only person who had realized anything. And he wasn’t about to discuss it with anyone, it wasn’t his crush to talk about. But the realization still made secondhand embarrassment prickle through him.
“Shit,” he whispered to himself. “Those idiots are doomed.”

Haikyuu!! Fic Recs #1
Hola!
I have wanted to make this post for ages (and the reason this blog was created) and am really excited to share some of my favourite Haikyuu fics with everyone!
I will be putting a ‘★’ next to the ones that i highly recommend and love with my heart and soul.
Lets get started!
KageHina
