i can't quite put into words what exactly izaya has meant to me over the past 8 years. one, it sounds really corny and i go off into at least 30 different tangents about all the little things that make him so endearing to me, but also i just dont really know how to sound eloquent and stuff. that being said, a lot of the person i am today is (for better or for worse) thanks to izaya, so i think if i leave it at that you can at least get it a little bit. ^_^

i was really excited to set this year's display up. i changed the room i used this time, since i got a new desk, and it was...kind of a challenge at first, but after moving around a bunch of furniture and whatnot, i made it work...!

i had to forego putting up a few other things... namely the rest of my bromides and postcards, but also all my shikishi. i need to invest in some way to display them... i also had two(!!) dakimakura... i had to leave out this year. </3 and the cardboard cutout i made when i was 16. 😭

as usual, i have a lot of stuff to say about this entire thing and the stuff around it, so i... will leave my rambling under the cut. (^□^)

my god putting this thing together was hell. i said 'challenge' earlier no this shit was like a fucking war omfg. the clear files kept falling i was miserable and praying to god (im not even religious). and then i had to tape behind the big izaya balloon poster cause it's covering my doorway and it kept getting pulled back to the door...? and it looked stupid. 🤦‍♂️ i wasn't originally gonna put the tables in here either. i really wanted to be able to fit the bed sheets on the walls. but i couldn't... and i needed more room to put the pillows and stuff, so it ended up working out perfectly.

(the only reason i didn't want to use tables was cause i didn't want something covering up izaya's sexy exposed feet in the china poster... 😟)

i was (finally) gonna get a cake this year, but after having the stress of two exams back to back this week and exams next week, i...was too exhausted lol. hopefully next year i won't have an awful overnight job or school making me miserable. (as if i'm not still gonna be a student next year☠)

the amount of durarara merch that's come out the past few years has left me feeling so spoiled... i hope they do a mail order for the 20th anni merch... i want all the izaya stuff without the crazy markups from resellers online🤬

also plz don't judge my toploader deco skills too much... i am not very experienced... and i also don't have a lot of stickers to work with... 🥺

at any rate... at this exact time last year, i was suffering inside the confines of my local walmart... i was working overnight, and my break was at 12am, so as soon as it hit, i ran out to my car to excitedly celebrate the date changing to may 4th...!

and then during my lunch break, i drove to the whataburger next door and did another 10-pull on the izaya birthday kuji while in the drivethru.

i didn't realize this until i started taking stuff down in my room (this is my bedroom... i can't realistically keep two large tables in here and a poster covering my doorway. i had to crawl under the table just to get in and out. my knees still hurt.), but... i actually forgot something i wanted to include... my izaya lightstick... 💔💔💔 it's okay. i will live. i'm happy with my setup as a whole so i have no qualms with this. i just need to make sure i don't make the same mistake next year.

on a (slightly) unrelated note, yesterday (may 3) was the 19th birthday of my favorite album ever from my favorite band ever, fall out boy's from under the cork tree! i was so happy when i found out it's right before izaya's birthday cause fall out boy as a whole has so many izaya coded lyrics it's crazy. (btw, their debut album tttyg came out on the 6th as well...!)

and then tomorrow is cinco de mayo... it's not a coincidence... latina izaya truthers rise up...

anyways...! i'm finally learning how to draw properly. the reason i was always so miserable when i tried before was cause i never knew what i was doing. i didn't know where to start from. because...i didn't use references...so hopefully i can draw something cute for izaya's birthday next year. ^_^

that's all i have to say...! i woke up early this (yesterday) morning at 9am so i could be there at 10am when midnight hit in japan, and it's already 3am on the 4th, so i'm exhausted lol...

i was so excited seeing all the izaya bday fanart on twitter though. all the beautiful artists making beautiful art...

And I just wanna say, your ask is the final push for me to actually scour through most of my songs on Spotify and finish assembling playlists for Rin, Santana, Skylar, and Jackal 😆 But I had so much fun doing so and I'll keep adding more and updating all of the characters' playlists as I discovered more new (and old lost) songs that fit them.

I have the links to their spotify playlist which contain a mix of their favorite songs and some songs whose lyrics fit them. I don't think I can link too much stuff in one post unfortunately, so I'll make a separate post to announce the rest of the characters playlists later on 😁But I'll try to link one song that either perfectly encapsulate their music taste or whose lyrics fit the character--or at least a song that they'd enjoy listening to.

Also, I basically have to split up my own music taste and favorite genres among all of my characters and I'm running out of genres 😭 But as for your question, I don't think I've answered something like that before--at least not in detail.

Ash enjoys quite a wide variety of genres, but mostly, their go-to are genres that are more energetic and/or aggressive. So, think like Rock, Phonk, Dubstep, Trap, Drum and Bass, Metal, that kind of stuff. But usually, they listen to songs whose vibes and/or lyrics kind of fit the mood they're in at the moment.

Also, fun fact, they did have some kind of an emo phase during their angsty and edgy teenage years 😂 It wasn't really too apparent (like no, they didn't have that typical emo hairstyle or wore those iconic eyeliners), but they just relate to quite a number of the lyrics of songs that can be considered to be emo anthems.

The song that fits the genre they like to listen to and the lyrics also matched their feelings and obsession love for MC is "So Sick" by Johnny Goth.

As the child of a classically-trained musician, Rin mostly enjoys classical and instrumental music. One of their favorite instruments is the piano and they used to enjoy learning to play it. Maybe in the future, when they won't be so busy anymore, they can pick up their piano lessen again...

Also, they tend to gravitate towards more soothing and calming songs in general because of the headaches they usually got after using their power too much or to see to far into the future. So most of their playlist is filled with instrumental songs, either piano, cello, or violin, or a combination of those.

As for the song that fits them, I'd say "The Belt of Faith" by Jung Jaeil kinda fits their vibe and the gravitas they carry (Yes, the main soundtrack for the film "Parasite" and yeah, I can see the irony 😂 )

The way this song speaks so much of Malleus and Silver. The words they want to speak but hold back. The way they both shouted in a fit of emotion because of what they will loose. 😭

Silver wanting to tell Lilia to stay and him breaking down. Malleus wanting to give a reason for Lilia to stay but couldn’t. Both wanting to heed his wish, but both hurt from it.

The way each of them ignored their pain in book 7. So they can make the other happy. They heeded lilia wish to leave with broken hearts. Malleus wanted Silver to be happy so he OB. Silver trying to stop it despite loosing his father. Malleus trying to give Lilia a happy dream that doesn’t include him, just his parents or Silver. But the greatest fear is waking up and saying goodbye 😭💔

NETFLIX: EVERYTHING NOW

[Trigger warning: the show is centred around the main characters recovery from her ed so that’s mentioned in this post.]

I am in love with this show. I just put it in as something to watch in the background whilst I did some light work and now I’m a day behind on it because I couldn’t. Stop. Watching! (and I couldn’t see the keyboard through my tears 😭).

I don’t even know where to start- it’s been so long since I’ve seen a show and seen myself in so many of the characters and seen people I know in those character as well. In an emotional sense, a situational sense and a physical sense I literally found Cam so jarring just because he reminds me so much of two people i know.

The Script Dialogue ?

🎶 For the first time in forever 🎶 the script, written about gen z, using terms and reference of the youth, didn’t. Feel. Forced. IN ADDITION, they used reference that weren’t just globally relevant but phrases and references that are very British/Londoner gen z!

“Are you not embarrrrassssed? This is emberaasssing” - perfectly used.

I also love how there’s no pressure to announce their sexuality, everyone is just them. I’m straight, so my opinion on this means nothing in comparison but I love that. l can see why coming out is important to many and a needed process to go through but I also know many people would rather not and just love and live and from an ally’s perspective I feel like this perspective of LGBTQ+ stories are so refreshing. The kids are freely figuring themselves out with no judgement, as they should be.

The Music Choices ?

First things first because I need to point this out for people not from London who have or are looking to watch the show. These kids come from rich families- and I mean RICH. They’re not from old money wealth (like Young Royals) but they live in modern detached houses located in zone 1 more or less (that’s already worth like £1M+ range), have cars that I know for a fact definitely don’t abide by ULEZ so they defo pay extra, AND have back gardens??? Mad.

But why is this relevant? To be honest I don’t know how to word this but, the house music at the house parties, the drops of garage, when Cam was in his home and working out and they played Cench, my first thought was “Cam is defo the type of boy to know all the words to all Cench’s songs and then rap the words with vim, as if he’s from ends 😂” (translation: “ends” = “the hood”, think Top Boy).

The music choices accurately depict today UK youth and it’s not just music that fits their lives or their characters progression but instead rounds out the characters. For instance I listen to Pop Smoke despite not being able to relate to a lot of what he’s saying as I’m not from NY or live that lifestyle, but will I scream the lyrics? Yes. And that’s how I feel it is with these characters. The soundtrack was like a dip into their own spotify accounts!

AND WHEN THEY PLAYED “MY HOOD” BY RAY BLK ? I cried. That was my “bus ride to school” song in secondary school.

The Character Development ?

I haven’t routed for and been annoyed / pissed off to high heavens by / cringed for / cried for a bunch of characters in so long. I don’t want to say more about that because the show is very plot character driven and I don’t think I can explain what I mean without spoiling it.

What Got Me About The Show ?

Through the show I came to the conclusion that even when I was mad at the characters I couldn’t be completely mad because I knew where they were coming from and I knew they were struggling but still mad because it didn’t excuse or make it okay that they spread the pain. The only character that hadn’t done that I believe is Mia’s little brother (even though I myself really wanted him to give everyone what for).

As I am not someone with an ED I can’t fully relate and my two cents on this is worth nothing in comparison to those who have had the presence of an ED in their life in some way. But from my perspective I do believe that this show is very educational and brings great awareness to the mental side of it all. It’s very raw and real and unapologetically what it is.

I don’t really know how to end these things and tbf but I love this show and needed to express it especially since no one around me has watched it yet 😭.

Thoughts on Frozen Pines by Lord Huron being RR!Tim’s theme song?

I’ve been obsessed with this song for a few months and only really realized how well it goes with Red Robin. At least some of the lyrics, I’m not smart enough to connect everything 😭

Obv the vibe doesn’t fit him, but the words??

I do really like the lyrics and how they could connect to Tim's RR run. Not sure if you were asking for a song analysis, but that's what this is going to be :)

The song analysis is not by what the song intended, but just how it can fit Tim.

"Deep into the night with the moonlight as my guide, I go wander through the pines and make my way to nature's shrine."

When the song references pines, mountainside, and more location imagery, I'm taking it to mean a reflection of Tim's mind. He's alone, in the woods, at night. Moonlight, Bruce, guides him.

Nature shrines are typically stone structures thought to hold gods, spirits or "their statues, symbols, holy objects, or relics are enshrined." At least that's what Google says. I think that perfectly fits the cave Tim travels to that finally proves, without doubt, that Bruce is alive. Bruce, in this, would be Tim's guiding spirit and the shrine holds the relic of his mentor.

"And I look up to the sky, and I know you're still alive. But I wonder where you are. I call your name into the dark."

Throughout RR, Tim talks a ton about Bruce. He misses him and wants him home. I think these lyrics would capture the scene where Tim, after defeating Ra's and being pushed out a window, says he knows Bruce will proud of him.

"I wake up in the morning, oh, and I don't know where I've been. All alone on a mountainside, and I'm huddled in the wind."

Imagine this as him waking up after Dicm caught him. He thought he was going to die but didn't. I bet Tim is trauma repressing his RR run. He was alone, with no support, as he desperately tried to protect himself against the "wind." He wanted his dad and crossed many lines for that end.

"And it feels like I've been away for an era, but nothing has changed at all."

Tim changed. He went through absolute hell for his end, and he returns to Gotham being the same as always.

"And it feels like I've been with you, oh, but what did we do, and where have you gone?"

Bruce, though the signs he left behind, was "there" with Tim, but not really. Tim crossed lines he never would have if Bruce hadn't left.

"On the night you disappeared, oh, if I had seen it clear, but a strange light in the sky was shining right into my eyes."

Tim probably wishes he could've stopped Bruce from disappearing. He probably wishes he could have seen the signs. Yet, he wasn't there for that battle. He had his own responsibilities, Gotham (and the Bat signal being the light), that distracted him.

"There was no one else in sight. Just the endless frozen pines, but I wonder all they know. 'Cause they don't die and they don't grow."

Tim was alone (pretty much) for his RR run. You can tie the pines to Ra's with this line, or you could use it as symbolic references to Tim's mental state. Tim, alone, in nature. The pines, perhaps the impressions of his mentor, are endless. Yet, he's not done learning from Bruce. He's stuck with what he has of Bruce until he saves his mentor.

"I am ready to follow you even though I don't know where. I will wait in the night until you decide to take me there. 'Cause I know I don't wanna stay here forever. It's time to be movin' on."

Tim is following the signs Bruce leaves behind. He is willing to tank his reputation (not really his fault) and relationships for this end. He doesn't want to be without his dad. If that means giving up Robin, that's what he will do.

"Oh, I don't want to be the only one living. When all of my friends are gone, I will be waiting for you on the other side of the frozen pines. I'm gonna find a way through. There's another life beyond the line."

Tim has lost so many people. Does he have to lose his second dad as well? He doesn't want to be alone. He'll wait for Bruce to return, but he'll go through the pines to get there. Bruce will need to meet him there, but his dad is there. His dad will meet him if Tim is able to save him.

Anyways, I didn't flesh out the pines metaphor enough, but hopefully that covers it. I'm sure my previous lit teacher would be ashamed of me, lol. This was a lot of fun!!! Thanks for the thought and song ^^

it's an absolutely gorgeous picture the instrumental of that song paints in my head but it's so dark at the same time- it's very similar in how it feels to how neptune, when afflicted, can essentially put you in a trance and lure you to the bad things in life (the bad decisions, if u will) and you can't help but feel like. Seduced in a way- it's like when gerard way said "there's something very romantic about self-destruction" that's what this song feels like to me and it's just very neptune in my opinion- or at least neptune's dark side.

pluto is very Necessary Evil by Motionless in White to me

Indigo Release

This might be my favorite Namjoon Solo album (including his mixtapes, i know it's his first official album") it was so good and so pleasing and just generally fits the mood ALWAYS. I loved it and it was so emotional. And the fact that the first lyric of the entire album is "fuck the trendsetter" sets the tone perfectly. I'm not going to get into it too much honestly. But I loved it. I have a lot of thoughts. And I do love Joon an unhealthy amount. Thank you RM for gifting this to us and sharing your music.

The music video was STUNNING his Tiny Desk performance was amazing. Tears in my eyes, im so proud of him.

Chapter 2 is so good for them and it's been so good to us too. And seeing Jimin pop up in the live and the other messages of support posted so far too. Makes me want to cry. They will always always be there for each other in everything. I love them so much

Why I think Niko/Tommi is an amazing ship - The essay

In this literary masterpiece and research I will focus on why Niko and Tommi would make an amazing pair. Facts are based purely on assumptions of their characteristic traits and on my own subjective insight of their personalities. <3 I am also only inclusively focusing on them two and not on others in the band.

Characteristically I think Niko and Tommi would compliment each other very well. They are both introverted, whereas Niko is more outgoing and social and Tommi likes to keep his public distance. Niko tho had multiple times brought it out that he needs lots of alone time. So this has given me a picture of a CEO-guy who will handle the public image like a pro and wants to keep all the strings in his hands and go against anyone who dares to give him or his friends a hard time. And then he will hibernate in his own corner to charge the batteries and observe the situations and analyse what would be the next step forward. I feel like Tommi is an observer too, and reads people around him very well. He notices stuff and comes up with simple plans to avoid/solve/maintain the situation X and helps Niko to plan their next theoretical moves.

Tommi also gives me storyteller vibes. His using of Finnish is somehow so rich and again: his observer-nature supports this too. He knows how to keep stories interesting with the word-choices (which is most likely unintentional, he has just learned to talk like that) and intonations and rhythm of his speech. And Niko the lyricist and creative mind would love to listen Tommi talk and either relax listening it or let the inspiration wash through him. Tommi could talk hours and Niko wouldn't get tired. And similarly Tommi appreciates Niko's ability to come up with lyrics and melodies and prefers to fall asleep to his voice. Also they both have the worst (=best) sense on humor so they will just try to outdo each other in horrible dad-jokes and situational comedy.

Lastly I want to meantion that their size difference is so hot!?!?!? Niko would fit just perfectly in Tommi's arms! Also we have seen couple of video-clips of Niko being manhandled and that man likes being roughed up a little bit. Who is better to pin him against the wall/mattress/kitchen counter than a big and strong drummer? 😌 Otherwise I think they would both just enjoy quiet, mundane and domestic love where they can fully embrace their need of their own space and just quietly love each other. 🥰

LITERALLY Leeknow is such a sweetheart and the way he's personified as a mean person always reminds me of how Suga was always called mean and cold because he was just quiet, when in reality he is so sweet.
