although i still think no kiss was the best route for their relationship because it drives the unsatisfaction oliver feels as deep as possible, if there was to be a kiss i keep imagining it like this:
in the maze, oliver has just told felix he loves him, who responds with "i don't know what you are. but i do know you make my fucking blood run cold" and depite his fear and disgust he still can't stop himself from looking at oliver's lips, slightly leaning in but being startled back by oliver shaking him.
they stare at each other for what feels like hours until oliver dares to lean closer, felix tries to keep him away by holding him in place but oliver is stronger than he looks. when felix turns his face to the side oliver rubs his lips on the side of his face, similarly to how he did in the bathtub.
oliver slowly inches closer to felix's lips until they touch and at first its barely a kiss, it's just rubbing his lips against felix's.
felix has his eyes open, watching oliver's every movement, not sure of what emotion out of the several contradicting ones he's feeling right he should follow to decide what to do next.
oliver's lips are very delicate in comparison to the hands holding felix in place. grazing their lips together, eyebrows tightly nit together, he starts kissing very slowly and with very little response from the other.
he pulls at felix's bottom lip, holding it between his teeth, trying his best not to bite as hard as he can.
losing some control, oliver starts kissing less gently, making out passionately with very little care for the lack of response from felix.
when felix kisses back he loses himself just as much as oliver, more chaoticly than any other time in his life. it becomes barely a kiss, more like they're trying to consume each other.
they hold each other so tightly it'll definetly leave marks and they devour each other like this is the first drop of water after a lifetime of thirst. it feels like nothing they do will be enough to satisfy them, like the only think that could relieve this desperation would be to bite hard into each other's skin, to taste flesh and blood. to feel skin rip when met with unwavering teeth.
when oliver can no longer hold back he bites into felix's lip and the pain startles him away, pushing oliver back. all the disgust he forgot about now coming back with full force, but mostly towards himself this time.
they part ways like they did in the movie but in this universe oliver knows what felix's blood tastes like.

i think one of the reasons glass onion is so fun is that it just... loves the audience back.
so many popular movies and shows these days thrive on a sort of bitter engagement with their fans - where the fans are dismissed as being stupid, annoying, and needlessly angry. we are constantly positioned as being less intelligent as the writers.
so much of "spoiler-free" movie-making relies on writers getting away with one twist in their work, regardless of if that twist was earned. the work doesn't actually have any rewatch value or interesting writing - because they think "good writing" is about "pulling one over" on the audience. they don't focus on making interesting characters or storylines or good endings - they focus on fooling you. glass onion, meanwhile, has faith that the audience has figured the ending out, and that we'll watch anyway, because we love the characters.
so many adaptions of older works... kind of seem to hate the original work. they're done without passion. they're done almost as if checking off a box. so many of them openly mock the audience for enjoying the original, almost directly telling us that we are fools for ever having loved something.
but glass onion. loves the audience. it knows that many of the people watching are mystery-lovers. it is an homage that feels love towards the original works it references. it knows we also love those works; and instead of trying to disparage those works, it allows us to celebrate them.
one of my favorite things about it - and maybe why i found it so satisfying - is that this movie isn't trying to tell you it's the smartest, bestest, most-clever detective story. instead, it asks itself what is satisfying and exciting for the audience? and actually gives us that payoff. it's bright, colorful, and fucking fun.
just... more of this please. i'm very bored of nihilism and grittiness and "shock value" writing. put the love back in. let us love unironically. have your work say i love you too. thank you for sharing this story.

someone probably said this already but in spiderverse i think it's interesting how when pavitr was first introduced everyone thought something bad was gonna happen to him bc of how confident and optimistic he was. and then in the actual movie we see that something bad was supposed to happen to him (police chief dying!) but it doesn't! miles stops it! and miguel berates miles for this, says it's going to cause the universe to collapse or whatever.
there's this idea that tragedy is inherent to spidermans growth, and while it's true that some spiderpeople learn important lessons through loss, no one stops to ask, is it really necessary? yeah, maybe the chief was supposed to die. but why does spiderman have to be formed through tragedy? why do we (as heroes) have to let people die? pavitr didn't lose anyone, and he's still a good spiderman! maybe, if he doesn't suffer, he'll end up better off for it!
so while miguel is arguing for all this big picture stuff about saving the multiverse he's lost sight of what it really means to be a spiderman, he's not looking out for the real individual people. yeah it's just one person who would die, but that one person means something to someone. shrugging and saying "stuff just sucks sometimes, we can't do anything about it" is the opposite of what superheroes do. pretty obviously, miles arc is also a reflection of the struggles people face in real life, working within unequal systems, where it's easy to shrug and say "that's just the way it is" and not ask "but why does it need be this way? can't we do something about it?"
miguel is arguing that you can't have your cake and eat it too. presumably, miles and co. are going to find a way to get around that and change things for the better (and maybe that's why miles has that line about two cakes in the advisors office!)

something. about. the horror of being sent on an impossible (death) quest and obligations and hospitality politics. the trauma of not having a home, and then the trauma of being in a house that becomes actively hostile to you, one that would swallow you whole and spit out your bones if you step out of line. all of this is conditional, your existence continues to be something men want gone.
it's about going back as far as I can with the perseus narrative because there's always a version of a myth that exists behind the one that survives. the missing pieces are clearly defined, but the oldest recorded version of it isn't there! and there's probably something older before that!! but it's doomed to forever be an unfilled space, clearly defined by an outline of something that was there and continues to be there in it's absence.
and love. it's also about love. even when you had nothing, you had love.
on the opposite side of the spectrum, this is Not About Ovid Or Roman-Renaissance Reception, Depictions And Discourses On The Perseus Narrative.
edit: to add to the above, while it's not about Ovid, because I'm specifically trying to peel things back to the oldest version of this story, Ovid is fine. alterations on the Perseus myth that give more attention Medusa predate Ovid by several centuries. this comic is also not about those, either! there are many versions of this story from the ancient world. there is not one singular True or Better version, they're all saying something.

Imagine coming home after a long day and they just hug you. They hug you in a way that melts all the tension from your muscles, and makes the stresses of the day fade into some distant memory. It’s one of those hugs you feel like you could fall asleep in, but you don’t want to because you want to savor every ounce of it even though you know you’ll get a million more of them

imagine being lawrence gordon. you spent 6 hours in a dirty bathroom with a dead guy and a twink. you then had to cut your foot off and shoot and abandon said twink (that you spent the last 6 hours falling in love with). you make it down the hallway when the (not) dead guy grabs you and said ‘you work for me now’ (does being an apprentice even pay?). the next day you go to your apartment, take a big sigh of relaxation and turn on the tv. and 9/11 is happening

Thinking about how in the Star Trek whale movie, when they travel back in time, Scotty tries to speak into a computer mouse and a guy has to tell him "no see we got a mouse and a keyboard!" and back then this was "haha in the future all of our really modern stuff is gonna be old-fashioned and outdated!" and today it's. Scotty is an ipad baby.
