3, 7, 12 and 20! polytheist asks >:D
Oh you want me to THINK? You want me to use my BRAIN??? You are EVIL Cheshi lol
3: Is your practice more ritualistic or casual? What does it look like?
Oh my practice is extremely casual. I always hated the strict religious upbringing I had. "You do it this way, or else!". Nah fam, that's not cool. Everyone is gonna have their own way to worship, have faith, and perform religion (Yes I believe religion is a performance, but that's for another time lol). Anyways, I don't generally do much in the way of ritual because that's so much fucking work. I prefer just kinda chilling with Nyx on the full moon and calling it a night lol.
7: What does your ideal altar look like?
Chaotic, unhinged, and personal. I don't need it to be set up perfectly or invoke certain vibes, unless trash fire goblin is a vibe lmao. I really just put whatever on my altar I think fits. Right now, unfortunately, my altar isn't exactly what I want, because I don't really have space and the last time I set up an altar, Goose knocked it over. She was a brand new baby then, but even so I'd rather play it safe. I have this great cabinet at my parents house I plan on repainting and using when we have a house of our own. Its a really great size, glass doors so I can see what's inside, and bonus: cat's won't break any glass bottles on my altar lol. Rn I just have this very cue little moon shelf about 3 inches wide on a windowsill.
12: How important is mythology in your practice? How much credit do you give it?
I mean, mythology is the sourcework of all of my beliefs. I wouldn't have found Nyx, Hekate, Athena, and Artemis without Greek mythology, Bast without Egyptian mythology, or Loki without Norse mythology. Do their stories have any bearing on my beliefs? Not really. Them being the deities of their respective realms is all I really need. I know Nyx as the night, Hekate as magic, Athena as wisdom and intelligence, Artemis as the protectress, Bast as the keeper of cats, and Loki as chaos. How I interact with them is more based on my needs, versus what they have "done" in the myths that survived. Myths aren't any bit literal, just like any other religious text. We as humans are always interpreting things based on our own preconceived notions, our own beliefs, and that's not always what the original source intended. In fact, I'd argue that any human interpretation of the divine is automatically wrong. No single human belief can 100% be accurate. We will all have our own ideas of how things work. I, as a singular person, should not put any undue influence on myths that I personally think are worth "more" just because they are considered to be valid religious texts (cough cough Christians and the Bible cough cough). Myths are stories. They're fun, its fun to imagine our deities in various human scenarios. But the Divine are much more complex than their myths. I give the myths the same level of credibility I would any other that indirectly influenced my way of viewing the world. I wouldn't be who I am without the sum of the things I've read and learned over the years.
20: List a few of the deities you worship and associate each with a quote you think represents them best!
Oh lordy, you're killin me with this one Chesh lol.
Nyx: "I see the moon and the moon sees me/Nyx bless the moon and Nyx bless me" (see what I did there lmao?)
Bast: Specifically the same noise my cat makes when shes singing in the mirror. That it that's the quote lol.
Athena: All that bullshit about "tomato is a fruit but you don't put it in a fruit salad" lol. Also "Ho don't do it... oh my god" for whenever I do something (even mildly) foolish lol
Loki: OKAY SO little bit of backstory here: when I was just getting into my paganism, I was in a really shitty spot in life, physically, mentally, you name it. I came up with this phrase to help get me through it, and I generally proclaimed that anything wrong in my life was because of Loki (AS A JOKE, THEY LOVED IT). The quote was: May the deity who looks upon me in disdain look upon you with favor. It got me through shit, still does, and I still love Loki, even if they aren't my main deity anymore.
CHESHI YOU ROCK

Manny and Butter Root are such interesting narrative foils because almost on every aspect they differ. Manny had the choice of running with the Khans a raider gang memeber. Bitter Root was born into it and did not have the choice to just leave. Manny actively chose to participate in Khan raids while Bitter Root states how much he hated when his father would take him along to shoot at NCR, soldiers and civilians alike, kids his age too. Manny has predominantly good memories with the Khans while Bitter Root mentions that he can’t name all the times his own mother tried to sell him for chems cause it was such a regular occurrence. None of the Khans mention him as a traitor either or at all really while Manny is actively remembered
There’s so much to talk about when it comes to them because they have been treated by and experienced the same group of people so differently and there’s even something to say in the fact Bitter Root knew nothing else and still chose to leave. Even more so Manny had no preconceived notions of the Khans as he admits he was not the most stand up person before hand and him not being NCR outside of military association. Meaning he would have no reason to have negative feelings towards them prior. He has no history of bad blood to where someone like Boone and most NCR from California would be indoctrinated with propaganda from a very young age or even told stories about the THE Khans and the The New Khans by their families.
It’s such a unique perspective they both have and it doesn’t make sense that Bethany Esda or Obsidian would not have them at least mention the other former Khan in the NCR BUT the other former Khan that made it to first reconn!!!
ive been sitting on this for a little while thinking of something to add but yeah, its really interesting. I have my own issues with Bitter Roots writing and think it could have been improved but as far as parallels go his and Manny's are pretty good
theyre parallels to each other to the point where the same event (Bitter Springs) forced them to make dramatic choices about the factions they were in, Manny deciding that he couldn't take being in the NCR anymore and Bitter Root killing his parents and well. he didn't leave the Khans it sounds more like the NCR removed him from the Khans but. you understand. I have no idea what they'd think of each other, Manny is obviously pretty proud about being a Khan and isn't at all shy about it, while Bitter Root is ashamed. I think they can both be kinda nasty though I think talking to Manny would help Bitter Root in the long run

In pain whenever someone insists that being naked around children, like in general, is bad
No cloths = pedo (this here is slightly exaggerated but some people actually say that. With words.)
Because nakes = sexual and sexual = bad and impure and children = pure and innocent and without agency
Waiting for the day where changing your childs diaper also becomes sexual and pedo unless *insert arbitrary metric*. If I had to imagine it'd probably be more terf shit, a la all men are horny monsters or only parents of the same SEX as the child should be allowed to.
I will nopt discuss further complications around childbirth because none of this makes sense anyway
I find it especially jarring when other queer people make arguments like that.
Like, y'all can't look at other people and be normal about it. It's not weird to be naked, you are weird for being unable to confront nudity without having secondary thoughts about it. You are the one uncomfortable with it so no one else is allowed to be comfortable with it?
Thinking about FKK (something I don't even know an english term for. Mom told me she and her parents often went to fkk places, because older people still found nudity more normal than we do I'd guess. Maybe they were an outlier but I can't shake the feeling that the younger people get the weirder and less tolerant they get of nudity and other peoples bodies.)
Every year when there's kink at pride discourse I can't help but think about how I wouldn't give two shits about people fucking in public, like it wouldn't be any more annoying that people blasting music and being loud, that's it. It definitely wouldn't smell as bad as some other stuff, like fireworks for example.
I also can't help but think about one of my friends from school who very amused told an anecdote where she went into her parents room while they were having sex when she was a little kid. Shocker, nothing happened to her. Plain seeing sex doesn't hurt, unless you already have been traumatized or smth. Also most of these super weird puritanical ideas only work under the assumption that children have the very same understanding of everything us adults do. Which they don't. How could they, they're learning everything about the world still. Explain it to them so that they can keep themselves safe, you'll have to do it regardless some day.
Go listen to what they're curious about, teach them at the pace they want, answer what they ask.
Because even if I say they don't have the same understanding of things us adults do, that doesn't mean children aren't smart and capable of understanding the bigger world, expanding their horizon.
People like that, in my opinion, just hate children.
Want to control them. Mold them into copies of themselves, perfect what they feel isn't perfect about themselves.
That's not how you treat another person, give kids agency and let them explore stuff. Let children be curious and nosy.
Teach them about consent, because consent isn't just sexual.
Teach them general things that are useful and good.
Teach them about their bodies and signs to look out for, built trust so that when they hit puberty and their needs and experiences change they will talk to you, ask and share what they feel and see. And then expand their horizons more
Please never raise children with preset ideas of how a well raised child has to turn out, with ideas of a fixed process with a fixed result, where certain things are off limits and shouldn't be allowed because they could lead to people growing up who don't fit your personal ideal(s).
Diversity of thought does not mean "diversity until I can't personally understand/relate anymore, beyond that it's evil". The only evil thing is you limiting the beauty and vastness of humanity
Children won't ever fit into your preconceived notions and that's a good thing, we're constantly learning and ideas are changing, and I'm not blaming you for growing older and having bigger more pressing worries and growing out of touch a bit, just don't denie others because of that.
The only way for children around you to be exactly like you is for them to grow up under the exact same conditions as you. But the world around you is changing constantly, even if you feel like YOU are a constant I assure you, you aren't.
Not even siblings or even even twins have that work out for them. Everyone makes different experiences, spends their time differently, cares about different shit. For better and for worse.
Embrace the potential for the worse, because it will lead to the better future you dream of.
If bad ideas are off limits and can't be talked about those ideas can't be challenged.
And if new ideas can't be brought forth nothing better can come into existence.
Yes new ideas will be not just good, there are bad ones. But that's why we discuss and make an effort, that's why we try things to see whether they work or fail.
We can't create the perfect world through logic in our heads and then execute it. Because humans aren't rational, logic is kinda fake even if it isn't, embrace that. Failure is human, failure leads to growth.
Many good things came from experimentation and theory but also from testing and trial and error, brute forcing stuff. Taking what works and optimizing it. Taking what didn't work and tweaking it slightly or taking notes on what has to be avoided in the future.
I love humans, I am human
I wish we would all stop dehumanizing each other constantly

My feelings on Booth can be perfectly summed up by season 9 ep 11, Spark in the Park. A young girl is found in the park, she's been dead for 3 days. The team finds that her growth was stunted and she had many remodeled injuries, leading them to believe she was abused.
When she was found she also was covered w an article of clothing (bc the murderer didn't want to see her face, they knew her) and she was posed w her hands in front of her.
Now the team thinks the parents did it, one killed her the other disposed of the body. So when Brennan and (hot head) Booth go to question the father he goes into this thinking he abused his daughter and doesn't understand that this (genius) man deals w this kind of news differently than he does he thinks this man is more guilty.
Only to find out his daughter was a gymnast (which explains the stunted growth and the remodeled injuries), but Booth can get rid of this anger bc he STILL THINKS her father killed her! Brennan, on the other hand, is very similar to this man and understands the way he's coping bc it's what she would do. Throw herself into her work.
Booth NEVERA apologizes to the man for his behavior toward him, and he never even shows remorse for the way he went into the conversation w this preconceived notion that this man KILLED AND ABUSED HIS DAUGHTER!
My heart litterally BREAKS for this man who lost his wife a year prior and then his daughter! He has no one and Booth is treating him like he's the worst person on earth!
I don't like Booth and I never understood why everyone in the show thinks he's this AMAZING MAN WHOSE ALWAYS RIGHT!
(Also the episode before Booth given Brennan "permission" to have the Bachelorette party Angela wanted to throw for her and I hate how that's looked at as a "stand up guy" thing WHEN THATS LITTERALLY BRENNANS BEST FRIEND AND HE HAS NO RIGHT TO TELL HER WHO HER FRIENDS CAN BE!!)

One of the dumbest things I think you've ever said was that cartoon fans hate children because they don't like how certain child characters are written or because they think a reboot of a kids show is badly written. Like, you do understand there's a difference, right? Yeah, I totally want children dead or something because I children's entertainment can be better than those soulless, ugly nursery rhyme compilation videos that children are addicted to. Logic.
Cartoon fans always have a warped idea how children actually are. Because they forget WE WERE kids. Whenever they see a little kid character who is slightly overbearing and overenergetic, yknow what a little kid IS, the fandom calls the character "annoying", "brat" etc. And god forbid if a teenage character was their point of contention
I remember watching Transformers Prime and I thought Miko was my fave out of the human teens the Autobots looked after. Yet Ive seen so many fans complaining she was a rude, impulsive, bratty bitch and found her excitable attitude around the Autobots "annoying" because how DARE a 14 year old acts stupid and is excited to hang out with giant robots.
And this stems to how cartoon fans view children who are fans as well. I was in the brony fandom and I noticed whenever the show introduced more characters or spin offs for the sake of toys, a lot of bronies groaned how its so "girly" and "not what the show is" aka anything remotely marketable and feminine whatsoever. And they got mad when kids loved it cos it reminded them they're watching a girl's show. They outright pilloried G3 fans for liking such a baby's show when Friendship is Magic is literally no different than g3 outside of more consistent characters and its funnier. Heck, even when G5 came along and there was a poll of who their fave main character was and Pipp, the most feminine of the group who was a social media savant, had the least votes. Whereas Izzy, the g5 Pinkie Pie, was at no. 1. (which goes to show how cartoon fanbases are extremely biased to wacky comic relief characters with quasi-neurodivergent traits) Also I was exposed to a lot of fucked up shit, the porn of this fandom was unfiltered and incredibly easy to access on youtube and google. (this was before youtube kids was a thing) This is the same fandom that brought us Cupcakes and Fallout Equestria and Rarity's New Designs. All from a show thats about horse puppies being friends. And as for the little kids who were surrounded by this content, no wonder they grew up traumatised. Cos bronies didnt give a single pissing shit about the children. Look up brony horror stories. You'll see why.
Cartoon fandoms have this preconceived notion to muscle children out of the picture as possible so they can feel more secure watching kids shows without their parents judging them. They hate being reminded that the stuff they watch IS FOR KIDS IN THE FIRST PLACE. But the problem is 75% of media out there is made for children in mind. Star Wars, Disney, Pixar movies, Dreamworks movies, Batman, Spiderman, Marvel, Pokemon, Animal Crossing, Transformers etc.
As for the bad reboot angle, I always firmly believed the phrase "This X REBOOT RUINED MY CHILDHOOD" is always a defensive way of saying: "THIS CHILDRENS PROPERTY IS NOT IMMEDIATELY CATERING TO ME >:(" Like they treat a reboot like its an act of betrayal when its just a piece of media changing and evolving with the generations to appeal to the newer ones. If you want the same show you watched as a kid, just watch the original thing on youtube or collect dvds and merch of it. But if you want to watch this reboot, you've got to realise change is what reboots do and if you get mad at the small/big changes a reboot makes...
You're literally Patchy in this scene
youtube
As long as a show doesnt push racist/sexist/bigoted or any problematic themes in their faces, its fine. If the kids love it, the reboots done its job.
And as for the quality of children's entertainment, I dont really give a shit what soulless nursery rhyme collection or sanitised fluff kids watch. We all had our mindless fluff we watched as kids and we didnt get scarred for life because of it.
Just...leave the kids alone. Just act like adults and manage your shit carefully. Let the kids enjoy what they enjoy and for the love of god DONT GET SO FUCKING DEFENSIVE OVER LIKING A CARTOON AIMED AT BABIES. ITS ONLY WEIRD WHEN YOU MAKE IT WEIRD.

How to support your adult loved one when they come out as trans:
Since you’ve found this essay, it can only be assumed that you are looking for guidance in how to support this person. You may be afraid of messing up- either because you care about harming this person, or because you don’t want to embarrass yourself. The safest thing you can do is show them you care about them, you trust that they know what’s best, and that you’re along for the ride.
1. Own up to your first reaction
Let’s assume this loved one came out to you during an in-person visit. You probably didn’t react perfectly. But that’s okay. You may have even said the dreaded “you’re my daughter and I’ll always love you” to your trans child that no longer identifies as a woman.
They may want to discuss your reaction at a later date. Own up to any mistakes that you made, and understand that what they remember from the interaction was probably more accurate, as it’s about their life and identity.
2. Show them that you still want to be as or more involved in their lives.
One of the biggest fears a newly out trans person might have is that they will lose loved ones in the process. Not only does this change someone’s view of an important relationship, it means they have less support. Before their visit ends, make sure that you’ve made plans to see them again sometime soon. The more time you spend together, the easier new names, pronouns, and terms will be.
When making plans with them use their name in follow-up and confirmation texts, and ask if there are any safety concerns they will need addressed. Knowing that someone is also thinking about their safety can help them know you care about them.
3. Practice their name and pronouns.
Usually, when someone comes out, they will want someone to use a different name, pronouns, and terms for them than they used previously. A frequent response to this is “I’ve always called you X, it’s too hard for me to call you Y, and I’m not going to worry about it,”. That’s not your call to make, and shows the person that you are not willing to change your behavior for their well-being.
One way to practice a new name or pronouns for someone is to talk about them to someone who is aware of the transition, or to write stories about them. It helps to connect “person” with “name” and “realistic situation”.
For example: “I think Sadie plans to visit the Grand Canyon this summer. I wonder if she’s ever seen a canyon before. She may have to borrow some camping equipment.” This sentence doesn’t have to be true, but gives us an opportunity to practice speaking without the embarrassment of being corrected.
4. Learn how to be corrected.
You may have this preconceived notion that trans people love to correct cis people. Most of us actually hate it, as it draws more attention to us and can lead to arguments. A short “thank you,” after being corrected shows that you won’t make it our problem.
5. Do your own research.
There’s an abundance of online resources about gender identity, and the history of trans people in our society. Seek out resources from trans writers, researchers, and doctors for more accurate information; as many websites marketed to the family members of trans people share misinformation.
Ask your loved one what news sources they like, and maybe even follow some of their favorite trans celebrities on social media to normalize seeing celebrated trans people.
6. Understand that things may change.
Your loved one may start wearing clothes that you aren’t used to, may have different life goals, and may change their opinions on things that you thought were set in stone.
When I came out to my parents, I told them that I would never pursue a medical transition, and now I’m six months on hormone replacement therapy. I said I wanted to have biological kids, but now I want to foster teens instead. What I thought was best for me changed. And that’s okay. You’re just along for the ride.

character ask game, if he was not yet asked: Boromir! :D if he was, Eowyn? Or a character you really, really wanna talk about 😀
No one has asked me Boromir yet! So I shall do him :D
one aspect about them i love: god what don't I love about Boromir? I love everything about him. But I think it's his lack of perfection - a prevailing theme in the characters I'm drawn to. He is proud, perhaps a little vainglorious, a bit arrogant, certain of his place in the world, strong minded and stiff necked, has his prejudices, has preconceived notions about people that aren't great, wants attention and praise - perhaps to a fault (this we're told, we never really see it. One of Tolkien's faults as a writer is doing a lot of telling but like...not really showing or what is shown is out of sync with what was told and I don't think it's on purpose).
But for all of that he is honourable (to a fault), grounded, sensible, a good leader who knows when to step aside and let others lead, loves his people and would do anything for them, truly just wants to do good, is afraid of the end of the world that he can't see a way out of but by the gods he is going to keep fighting because someone has to, takes people as he finds them and is able to change those prejudices he has (see: Lothlorien - in the books).
He's so utterly, perfectly human in a way that I really like and do find, on a personal level, relatable. Especially the complicated family stuff - being the sibling who doesn't receive the shit shoveling the other one does. Who hates that it's happening but who still loves their parent. That's a bag of worms that has my name all over it.
one aspect i wish more people understood about them: I think most people understand the multi-faceted nature of Boromir. That's pretty well discussed and explored, from what I've seen. I think most get that he's not evil, he's not a bad person, he's just someone who is trying their best in phenomenally difficult times. I think that's something we can all relate to - especially in the last two years. I suppose, it's more about family dynamics, but I do wish people would complicate his relationship with Faramir more. Like, I think Boromir is more the one who is like "this is my brother, he can do no wrong" and Faramir has the tempered, more brittle/complicated view of Boromir (see the entire conversation with Frodo in TTT's book). And that nuance doesn't detract from either of them, as characters, in fact it makes them far more human and relatable than a perfect relationship. Like I don't doubt Faramir loves his brother, I just don't think it's straight forward and easy how fandom often portrays it.
(ditto, actually, for Eowyn and Eomer. I don't think they're super close. Nothing in the books indicates that they actually talk to each other in a meaningful capacity/know each other well. In fact, what is shown is the opposite. So yeah, I see no reason to assume that they're each other's best friend, and would argue that that read on them is purely fandom made-up with no basis in books [or the films, for that matter].)
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have about this character: Boromir loves stupid, dirty soldier songs. He collects them how Aragorn collects overwrought elvish lays. The more the song is about how fucking annoying the general is, and how much the soldier just wants to go home and screw the pretty lass down the lane who has big tits, the more Boromir finds it utterly delightful.
I also headcanon that Boromir doesn't really laugh (I know I have him laughing in my fic, but I've changed my view on it the longer I spend with him). He smiles, he finds things funny, has a sense of humour - it's all very tapped down as he's a Grim Man From Gondor(tm) - but it's still there. Yet for all that, he doesn't laugh. Not even Merry and Pippin have gotten him to laugh. They've gotten him as close to it as anyone has ever managed, but still not cracked him yet. (They're determined to. It's their Mission Impossible and they've accepted it.)
as well as
one character i love seeing them interact with: Merry and Pippin! They bring out the boy-ishness in Boromir that's been shoved down into a pit because of Duty and Honour and It's End Times etc. but it's still there and they've a skill at bringing it out. Also, Boromir clearly adopts everyone and their grandmother as younger siblings, and Merry and Pippin fall into that and I think it's charming.
one character i wish they would interact with/interact with more: Aragorn! We get bits and pieces in the book (and film) but I wish we had more. And I wish we had more light hearted scenes with them. Anytime they talk it's like Grave Serious The World is Ending shit. And sure, they'd absolutely talk about that, but also I'm sure they'd shoot the shit about things. Aragorn's been to Gondor, he knows the dive bars. Boromir also knows the dive bars. And the floors and loos of the dive bars. (His late teens and first year or two of his 20s were an Adventure filled with Decisions He Made Oh Boy.)
I also wish we saw Boromir and Frodo interact more. If only to really build up the emotional impact of the Amon Hen scene. It's an emotional scene as it is, to be sure, but the pay off would have been that much higher if Boromir had been a sort of second-Aragorn to Frodo. Like OOOF. And for Boromir, who honours and values friendship, it would have been horrific to be in his head. And, it would have made Frodo’s line later of “I was his friend, for my part” that much more heart breaking. In the books, too, where Frodo is going into all the good Boromir did for the Fellowship, and the strengths he brought etc. like, if Boromir had been a sort of second-Aragorn-mentor/friend figure that would have been even more PAINFUL.
In addition, Frodo and Boromir being closer would have made Frodo’s desire to save Gollum from himself/the ring more layered beyond just goodness of Frodo’s heart and the pity he felt for poor Gollum. Because Frodo would be like “I’ve already lost one person, who I esteemed and loved as a friend, to the ring. I’m not losing another person - even if it’s Gollum - to this damn thing.”
one (or more) headcanon(s) i have that involve them and one other character: I've already gone on about my views on his relationship with Faramir. I HEADCANON THAT HE LIVES. DON'T KNOW WHAT MOVIE OR BOOK YOU'RE ENGAGING WITH, BUT THE ONES I AM HAVE HIM LIVING. THANK YOU.
Fucking Ian Malcolm style rolls into Rohan "reports of my death were vastly exaggerated." Aragorn is like "I HELD YOU WHILE YOU DIED" and Boromir is like "I know and I have feelings about that too." Gimli's like "I am SO GLAD you're back but also you and Aragorn NEED to get a room."
Actually though, my main headcanon - that the movie supports - is that Boromir and Gimli are bros. I rewatched it recently and paid special attention to Boromir and Gimli and it's never spoken, but there are a lot of interactions between them in the background that indicate them being close. So yeah, I headcanon that Gimli is like "this is my human brother, Boromir. We can give him a Khuzdul name." and Legolas is all "I am YOUR BOYFRIEND and I don't have one yet!!" Boromir is supremely chuffed about this.
I am very sorry for the very long lecture you got. I just have a lot of Boromir feelings and haven't talked about them nearly as much as I have talked about my Grima feelings. SO there's a lot there. More could have been added but I decided to restrain myself.
<3 <3 thank you!! <3 <3

Day 66: Bond
There was a certain bond that formed between two people when all of your friends were paired off and dating someone. When the two of you were the only single people so you got paired off to share food, and be partners in games, and all other manner of things.
Harry supposed that tonight would be just one more of those nights as he arrived at Ginny and Luna's. And he wasn't complaining (not anymore, at least) it had taken a couple of years but he and Draco had warmed up to each other. They had compatible styles for partner games, Draco always gave Harry any treats with nuts and Harry gave him any treats with mint, and Harry genuinely enjoyed his dry sense of humor.
If he was being honest, he'd started looking forward to all of the time that he got to spend with Draco on Friday nights.
But things felt different the moment he entered the house, even though he couldn't quite put his finger on why. He spotted Ginny first, standing against the counter, pouring a couple glasses of wine, "Hey," he called.
She looked up and bit her lip.
"What?" he asked with no small amount of dread. He knew that look; it was the look she'd given him right before she'd told him she might be gay and in love with Luna, a look that said she was afraid of breaking his heart.
Ginny opened her mouth but no words came out.
"Ginny, what?" he said, taking several steps toward her.
"I don't know how to say thi-"
"Oh, good," he heard Draco say from behind him, "You're here."
His mouth stretched into a grin even before he turned around "He-" he broke off when he saw that Draco was standing with his arm around some bloke who Harry had never met before. "Hey," he finished.
"This is Matt," Draco offered.
And frankly, Harry would rather die (again) than shake his hand but before he could have any say in the matter Matt had stepped forward into his space and was gripping his hand. Hard. "The Harry Potter," he drawled. "My, my."
(Read more below the cut)
Harry glanced over at Draco who looked vaguely uncomfortable.
"Draco has told me so much about you. I could hardly believe that he was telling the truth." He leaned toward Harry conspiratorially, "He's known for embellishing the truth, you know?"
Harry wrenched his hand from Matt's grip, "Actually, I've found Draco to be honest to a fault. Hardly anyone else will tell me when my outfit doesn't match or I've got something stuck in my teeth."
Matt's eyes flashed and Harry's proverbial hackles stood on end he didn't like that look, "I-" Matt started
"Hey," Draco said, taking Matt's hand and drawing his attention, "Let me introduce you to everyone else."
"Nice meeting you, Mark," Harry called.
Draco narrowed his eyes at him, "Matt," he corrected, before mouthing, 'behave' at Harry.
"My mistake," Harry said, maintaining eye contact with the other man until he turned away and followed Draco into the other room.
"Okay," Ginny said, drawing his attention away from them, "First. Men are disgusting; I can't believe I thought I was attracted to them for so long."
"What?" he asked, slumping over to the counter and sliding onto a stool across from where Ginny was still mixing up drinks. He was feeling a little nauseous, fire rushing under his skin.
"That," she said, gesturing to where Harry had been standing talking to Matt and Draco, "The little pissing match to decide who's dominant."
"What?" Harry asked, "that guy is just an asshole."
She rolled her eyes, "Second, you're still an idiot."
"Wow. I'm just going to go home," he said. "Between you and the dude who was trying to break my fingers, I don't think it's going to be a great night."
Ginny leaned across the counter and instinctively Harry leaned toward her, "How long are you going to continue denying you have feelings for Draco?"
His brow furrowed, "I don't. We're just mates," he added.
"I rest my case. You're still an idiot," she said as she leaned back and started mixing drinks again.
Harry slouched on his stool turning that thought over in his mind, "That actually would make sense," he admitted.
"Harry, I love you, you know I do," she said. "But honestly, I can't believe you're just figuring this out. The rest of us have known for ages. We were all shocked when he walked through the door with Matt; he told us he was bringing someone but we thought the two of you were just making a joke."
"Well now what am I supposed to do?" he asked. "Why couldn't anyone have said something sooner?"
"Because we thought it was obvious," she hissed.
"Let's just get through the night," he sighed. "Then we'll deal with the rest. We'll need to come up with a plan."
-----------
He spent the rest of the night calling Matt the wrong name (Miles, Maurice, Mike, Max, Moses, Mitch, Mason) to the point that Ron either caught on and decided to help or got confused enough that he started calling him the wrong name, too. Harry also couldn't help but rub it in Matt's face how much better he knew Draco; telling inside jokes, asking Draco specific questions about his work and his parents, and reminiscing about fond memories.
Draco seemed a bit exasperated by it but Harry couldn't help himself. Once he started, he just couldn't seem to stop.
Eventually as everyone was getting ready to leave and Luna was saying good bye to Matt, Draco cornered him, "Do not move a fucking muscle," he hissed, "I am not done with you."
"Dra-"
"I mean it, Potter. Stay right here," he said, jabbing him in the chest with his finger before he turned and made his way over to his date.
"Hey," Matt said, smiling at him much the way Harry imagined an alligator might smile at his prey.
"Hi," Draco replied softly. "I'll floo you tomorrow, yeah? There are a few things I need to take care of."
Matt frowned, "I thought we were going back to my place."
"No," Draco replied steadily. "I have a five date rule." He stepped back, "I'll floo you," he repeated.
And Matt looked pretty pissed about it, but he seemed to take the hint and disapparated on the spot without so much as a goodbye to anyone.
"You're all the literal worst," Draco fumed. "Except you, Luna," he added. "You're a goddess."
Luna gave a little curtsy.
"Seriously," Draco said, glaring at the room even though none of them looked especially repentant. "And you," he spat, spinning to glare at Harry, "You're the worst of all."
"Does that make me special?" Harry quipped, arms folded across his chest.
Draco groaned, "Bloody fucking Griffyndors. I hope you're all happy," he grabbed Harry's arm. "Come on we are going back to mine to have a chat."
"I thought you had a five date rule," Ginny called.
Draco flipped her the two finger salute before apparating them to his house.
Harry always liked being in Draco's house; it was small and cozy, and it always smelled vaguely like chamomile. Just being here made his soul feel lighter, calmer.
"Alright," Draco growled, "Spill. What the hell was that?"
"What?" Harry asked innocently.
"Potter," he warned.
Harry sighed, "He's an asshole."
"And you know that how? You didn't even give him a chance".
"Draco his handshake was like a vice!"
Draco stared at him, "You've got to be kidding me. Are you that much of a child? He hurt your hand so you thought you should bully him?"
"I didn't bully him!" Harry exclaimed.
"No?" Draco asked. "You didn't use his given name even once." Harry winced, maybe that was overkill. "You spent the entire night trying to make him feel stupid and inferior to you. Which, let's face it, everyone does anyway because you're Harry fucking Potter!" Draco exploded.
"That's not fair," Harry said, betrayal slicing hot through his gut. Draco knew that he hated being famous, hated the preconceived notions attached to his name.
"Yeah well, neither was what you did."
"Draco, I-"
"No," he said, holding out a hand, "That was such bullshit, Harry."
"But he's awful."
"You didn't even give him a cha-"
"I didn't have to!" he exploded. "The first words he said to me were to disrespect you. He's an asshole and I will chase a million of them away from you."
"That's not your job."
Harry threw his hands up in the air, "I'm your best friend! Whose job is it, if it's not mine?"
"You don't just get to decide things for me!" Draco cried.
"Fine," Harry spat. "You want to date that wanker, go ahead. But I have seen his type before. Don't come crying to me when he's beaten you to a bloody pulp for looking at someone the wrong way." He pushed past Draco and made his way to the door, walking out and slamming it behind him.
He started down the sidewalk, debating trying to figure out where Matt lived and have a chat or maybe go over to Ron and Hermione's to get some advice and regroup.
But the further he walked, the more the anger faded from his veins, and the guilt settled in.
There was no choice really, he turned around and headed back to Draco's house once more. When he arrived he knocked on the door even though he normally would have just let himself in.
"Go away!" Draco shouted.
He knocked again, "Draco, please."
"No! Go away. You're the worst."
"I know," he called back. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean that. Please."
After a few seconds, during which fear settled heaving in Harry's gut, the door opened and Harry slipped inside, Draco was curled up on the couch, hugging a pillow to his chest.
Seeing him looking so small and sad made Harry ache. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I shouldn't have said that."
"Which part?" Draco asked bitterly.
He sighed and came over to sit on the couch beside Draco, "I'm not sorry for chasing him away. But I will always be here for you, no matter what. You can always come to me."
Draco leaned over and put his head on Harry's shoulder, "I know," he whispered.
"Forgive me?"
He nodded and they sat together in silence for a few minutes, both trying to collect their thoughts. Eventually Harry said, "I really wish you wouldn't date him."
Draco sat up, "Harry look at me."
Harry turned on the couch to look at him and raised his eyebrows.
"I won't ever floo call him, we'll never go on another date, and I'll never see him again." Something eased in Harry's chest. "But it's not because of what you said or did. It's because I, too, have had shitty relationships. I have also lived through trauma and I have had to learn from it just like you."
Harry looked down at his hands.
"And if you have concerns about someone, there is a better way to tell me than what you did tonight."
He nodded, suitably chastised, "You're right."
"I appreciate your concern, though," he added and Harry looked up to see that Draco's mouth was quirked up, he really must be forgiven, apparently. "And I genuinely forgot how petty you can be."
He shook his head and reached out for Draco's hand, "Draco, I want you to be so, so happy," he said. Then he added, "I'm an idiot."
Draco raised an eyebrow.
"And everyone knows it, you included, so you can't really hold it against me," he said.
"I'm pretty sure I can."
He huffed, "Just hear me out. I'm an idiot and I didn't realize until tonight that I'm a little bit in love with you. And it's fine if you don't feel the same but you are my best friend and I had high standards for you even before I knew I had feelings for you. It hurt me to see you with someone who treated you so poorly."
"Sorry," Draco said, "I need you to repeat that."
"I said, I'm an idiot," Harry started.
"Not that part."
"It hurt me to see you with someone who treated y-"
"Not that part either," Draco said.
Harry swallowed, "It's fine if you don't fee-"
"Harry," he grumbled. "Say the other part."
He rubbed the back of his neck, "I'm in love with you," he whispered.
Draco blinked at him, a smile blooming at the corner of his mouth, "Say it again."
A grin tipped up the corners of his mouth as well, "I'm in love with you."
Draco launched himself into Harry's arms and covered Harry's lips with his own, "say it again," he mumbled into the kiss.
"I love you," Harry repeated, murmuring the words into Draco's mouth.
Draco pulled back slightly, "I love you, too."
"I hoped that was the case," Harry replied.
After he kissed him again, Draco said, "Alright, fine. Now you get a say in who I date."
Harry grinned, "Is that so?"
He nodded.
"Will you date me, Draco Malfoy?" he asked, brushing his nose along Draco's.
"Yes," he whispered. Then with a smirk he added, "But we'll have to get my best friend's approval and rumor has it that he has very high standards."

10 Anti LO Asks
1. i literally do not get how LO fans HATE PJO when the whole point of the first book was calling out the preconceived notion hades must be the bad guy and instead showing hes actually fine and later hes actually one of the best parents in the whole series?? like is it only because hxp isnt perfect in it and he slept around to have bianca and nico? because its legit myth canon persephone had a boytoy in adonis and minthe was hades' mistress while married so?? idk i think they should love it :/
2. if another writer wanted to create their own retelling of hellenic mythology, what would be some ways to connect with people actually practicing hellenism so as to not make the same mistakes as rachel ? i’m asking because i’ve seen people like that frequenting this blog at times.
3. i honestly hate LOs random injects of comedy, especially during what should be serious moments. how are we supposed to feel the gravity of the situation, the tension, the fear, the anger, etc when itll immediately be undercut by some quippy one liner? it feels like RS saw how "funny" people thought mcu movies were and thought "i can do that too!". i get its not as "lighthearted" as she wants, but she cant try to be a "deep social commentary" when she cant let any of it be taken seriously.
4. WHAT. DID RACHEL JUST. COMPLETELY REWRITE THE ASCLEPIUS MYTH TO DRAG APOLLO??? I AM SCREECHING
5. Your discord must have a lot of anti-lo art, are there members with a tumblr account? If so, would you tell us?
From OP: There are a good number of people with tumblrs there but I’m not going to share any yet. The last time I shared accounts of people I was associated with or just enjoyed, they got harassed. I will ask if I could share some of their accounts though.
-----FP Spoilers/Mention-----
6. FP spoiler 189: How could you do my girl, Eris, so bad like that Smythe? Good lord her design is atrocious, and wouldn’t it be better if she was the daughter of Nyx and Erebus given her design? How tf did Zeus and Hera have a child with wings?? Eris, honey, I’m so sorry you’ve been done so dirty, you deserve better than being a bald version of Hera
7. FP spoiler Episode 189: Oof, I have a lot to say about Eris.
First of all: Why is her design so freaking ugly? She looks like an apple with some limbs and wings. This is such an uncreative way to hint at her mythos. (Get it? She has an apple-head because she used an apple to cause chaos once, isn't that clever???)
Second, why is she here??? Legit, why did we need to bring her into the story??? Why did we need yet another plot-twist??? How much longer are we going to drag this trial out???? What, is Kronos going to take the stand next???
Third of all, why exactly is everyone so intimidated by her? She doesn't seem that strong and the only thing she's done so far is glare at people and demand everyone say what she wants them to say like a spoiled brat. Hades says they're afraid she'll air out the gods' dirty laundry, but it looks like she's doing that right now, even when they try and appease her? If you're so scared of her running her mouth, why not gag her or something and lock her away in Tartarus? You did it to Kronos and he's a freaking titan, you cannot tell me locking this snot-nosed apple-bird up would be more difficult.
Fouthly, are we seriously gonna blame Eris for Persephone's AOW now? Rachel noooo, the AOW is the only thing that made this version of Persephone interesting, don't take it away from her and make it another woman's fault!
Side note: Demeter being allowed to go off on dirtbag Zeus and his brothers was the only good thing in this chapter. In fact, Demeter was the only good thing about this chapter. She deserves so much better.
From OP: So true, Demeter! Plus, imagine having the potential to be queen of the mortal realm but couldn’t because Hades wanted the volcanoes?
8. FP SPOILERS
///
PLEASE SDKWJBWBSBZKWNWS CHAPTER 189 IS SO FUNNY ERIS LOOKS LIKE GOD-DAMNED CHICKEN I CRIED OUT LOUD WHEN I SAW HER HHSJWJQBWJQJQHHQ
Rachel never disappoints with her designs they're so hilarious
From OP: B A L D
9. Fp/ SERIOUSLY?! P just has to be perfect now even the aow is not her fault. Flawless uwu self insert. She owns nothing now, not even her body or feelings. Eris is much better fitted for dreadful queen. P has no agency on her own... She does nothing by herself of course she is queen perfect you can't have faults if you don't do bad abd you don't do bad things if you don't do anything at all....
From OP: No because this made me mad. I knew the feeling was going to be blamed but I didn’t expect a whole ass goddess to be behind it.
10. Fast Pass Mention //
.
.
.Oh wow turns out that Persephone is so perfect and special that she's been blessed with beauty twice and that's why she's so beautiful and every single male character loves her and wants her
From OP: That part made me cringe. Like bro, we get it. She’s beautiful. You don’t have to justify everyone simping for her by saying she got double blessed with beauty.

Ok this is gonna sound odd. But how would Kaminari and Shinsou (either separate or together would work tbh) react if their teenage daughter brought home her boyfriend but they don't trust him. Like he looks like a total fuck boy, but they wanna trust their daughter. So later on they would stealthily follow said boyfriend to make sure that he wouldn't hurt the daughter. While hiding Kami and/or Shin overhear him completely just bashing his friends words and shit because his so called 'friends' were disrespecting his girl/their daughter, and he wasn't having that. They then decide that he's alright. They'll leave baby girl in his hands. He looks like a bad boy, tattoos and piercings and the whole shebang. But clearly he drinks his "Respect Women" juice.
Bonus if the boyfriends favorite hero is Red Riot, so of course he's gonna be drinking that "women are queens" juice daily lol.
I never see any dad things for Kami or Shinsou and I hope to start something here. I think they'd be great dads tbh
Definitely not odd!
Thing their Daughter’s Boyfriend is bad when He really isn’t [Head Canons]:
(Kaminari, Shinsou)
Kaminari:
-Kaminari watched with an eyebrow raised as you buzzed around the dining room, setting the table and such. “Come on, he’ll be here soon,” you spoke.
-The hero only shrugged and casually picked up a dish, “He’s our daughter’s boyfriend. He has to impress us, not the other way around.” You just rolled your eyes at that.
-”Yes, and we’re trying not to embarrass her,” you said. Speaking of which, your daughter rushed into the dining room.
-”Thank you, mom,” she said before giving her father a pout. Kaminari sighed, but he relented.
-”Fine, fine,” he said, giving his baby girl’s head a rub, “I’ll be good.”
-About an hour later, the door bell rang, and since he was the closest, Kaminari went to answer it. Upon doing so, however, he was greeted by a teenage boy with several piercings and tattoos. “Uh...We’re not looking to buy anything,” he said.
-The boy just laughed “[Daughter Name] said you were funny!”
-Needless to say, Kaminari thought that something was up with this teen. There was no way his daughter could like some punk like this! He was in no way good enough for his daughter and Kaminari was gong to prove that.
-”He’s a nice kid, leave it alone,” you merely told him when he asked for your opinion.
-That went into one ear and out the other as soon enough Kaminari came up with the idea to see if this guy was legit or not.
-This guy came off as a fuck boy, after all, as the kids would say, and the last thing Kaminari wanted was for his daughter to get hurt. Make no mistake, however, as he did trust his baby girl, he just ultimately wanted to protect her.
-So, when the day finally came, Kaminari decided to misuse his hero training and follow after his daughter’s boyfriend.
-The guy wasn’t doing anything out of the ordinary so far. He just met up with some friends and they went to hang out at a coffee shop. Typical of teens, but Kaminari remembered his days at that age and how he did similar.
-Making sure to sit at a table right behind the group, Kaminari listened intently. For some reason the teens seemed fire up, and he wondered why.
-”So, have you figured out if Charge Bolt’s daughter is as electrifying as her daddy.” Kaminari raised an eyebrow at this, feeling curious as the boys giggled. It took him awhile, but he finally figured out what they were saying, which caused him to nearly shoot out of his seat, intending to blow his cover and confront them on the spot. But then...
-”What are you talking about?” He heard his daughter’s boyfriend and his question seemed to make the others laugh louder.
-”You know, if she’s good in bed? Puts good use of her quirk there? She’s got such a nice body and such a smackable-”
-”Hey, you can’t disrespect women like that! And certainly not my girlfriend.” At the defense, Kaminari listened intently, not believing what he was hearing. “Besides, the first thing that shouldn’t come to mind when you think about a woman is sex and her looks. She’s a person and very sweet, so I better not hear you talking about women like that again, especially her.” The way your boyfriend defended you sounded so sincere and passionate that Kaminari was awestruck.
-There was just no way this guy was that respectful...What he was saying was also sounding familiar, too, “I mean, what would Red Riot say? Everyone deserves respect, right?” Ah, there it was-But wait a second!
-”Red Riot, really?!” Kaminari completely blew his cover as he got up and approached the teens, who were looking at him rather shocked, “Charge Bolt! Charge Bolt should be your favorite hero!” Then in that moment, Kaminari quickly covered his mouth, realizing his mistake.
“Mr. Kaminari what are you doing here?”
-Needless to say, Kaminari now approves of his daughter’s boyfriend.
Shinsou:
-It got to a point in most relationships where parents were met with and got involved.
-Now, Shinsou’s daughter was definitely spoiled and loved by him. He wouldn’t do much things in fear of looking stupid, but when it came to his daughter, he would do anything and more.
-So, when she told him about her boyfriend, of course he wanted to meet the guy who got his daughter so interested.
-He and you had not met the teen yet, and this would be the first time your kid brought someone home, so this was rather exciting.
-”I told him all about you, dad, and he thinks you’re a cool hero and can’t wait to meet you,” The teen girl smiled. Shinsou returned her smile and rubbed at her head.
-”Well, I can’t wait to meet him.”
-Those were words that Shinsou certainly wanted to take back once he met the guy in question.
-The doorbell had rang without warning, and you rushed to open it, greeting what Shinsou knew to be known as a typical fuckboy.
-This guy showed up with his phone in hand, tattoos, piercings, and also wearing a leather jacket. Nope, Shinsou was not approving.
-He remained civil, however, not saying much during the dinner that the family ate together with their guest, but as soon as the boy left, he made his disdain known.
-”No, I don’t like him,” he told his daughter without delay once she asked, “You’re going to get your heart broken, and I won’t allow that.”
-”But daddy! You haven’t even gotten to know him yet!” Shinsou didn’t agree with that, which led to his daughter slamming her bedroom door on her way up. You just sighed and looked at your husband.
-”Come on, the boy is nice and makes good grades,” you said, though your words sailed right out the window.
-”I’ll prove it to her,” was all Shinsou said before turning in for the night.
-It was about a week later before he put his plan in motion. It was simple, he was going to follow the boy and record him cheating on his daughter. It was just bound to happen at some point, and he would use this as leverage to expose the boy and get you on his side for preventing his daughter from dating him. He’d spare her the broken heart, however by not telling her the truth.
-So, Shinsou found out where the teen was and began discreetly following him and his group of friends. Nothing was seeming out of the ordinary for now...
-”Oh, Red Riot!” Shinsou ducked, wondering if Kirishima were actually there, but all that could be seen was the hero appearing on a TV that his daughter’s boyfriend seemed to zero in on.
-’He likes Red Riot?’
-”Come on, dude,” his friends seemed to call him back, chuckling all the while.
-”I’m coming, I’m coming,” he said, only to receive more laughter.
-”I bet that’s what your girlfriend said last night!” The teen stopped dead in his tracks, and Shinsou felt as if he might end up getting his hero license revoked for beating some kids.
-”Hey, don’t make jokes like that, about any woman ever, okay? It’s not cool or funny.” That murderous feeling seemed pass as Shinsou’s eyes widened in surprise at what he was hearing.
-”Come on, it’s just a joke dude. I mean, your girlfriend’s hot! Be grateful we don’t think she’s gros-”
-The other teens immediately shut up as they were being glared at. “Just because she’s beautiful doesn’t give you a free pass to talk about her like that. So you better not ever.”
-Shinsou let out a sigh. He started to feel a bit sorry for his preconceived notions. He hated to think that his baby girl was all grown up and dating, but he knew that he should be grateful it was with such a good guy.

Can I have some Nick x bo thoughts? 🥺🥺 I’m intrigued
Okay I decided to just throw spaghetti for this one, so it's in the form of a chaotic bullet point list
STREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS THOUGHTS ABOUT NICK/BO:
i feel like there'd be little to no chance of him living without carly also being alive; if anyone was going to appeal to bo's little shreds of humanity - his sense of family - it would be a girl begging for her twin brother's life
also i just like carly so what would be the point if she wasn't there?
it would have to be rather earlier in the movie. like, there is no going back from the point they're at in the final battle, you know? no amount of begging would assuage bo and vincent from murdering them at that point
on the other hand, seeing how resilient carly and nick are is a big turning point in the movie. it's super important for not just the viewers but all the characters to see how well they work in tandem. i wouldn't want to take that away from them
so maybe the best of both worlds would be if carly and nick decided to turn the tables on the boys after they shoot bo and he passes out in the theater?
like what if when he passed out, they tied him up and used him to lure vincent, and there was some kind of tense bargaining situation?
or, ooh ooh ooh, what if: so bo has carly down in his dungeon and nick can't get her out, so instead he captures one of the sinclair brothers and that's the trade off? carly's life for bo's or whatever?
then carly and nick aren't in a position where they can leave ambrose, but the brothers aren't necessarily in a position to kill them either
idk neither of those are perfect scenarios, but suspend disbelief with me
this would be Slow Burn. HELLA Slow Burn enemies to lovers. which i love, so
bo would hate nick on principle because he's the one bastard they couldn't take down, and he's just some fucking guy from florida. plus he's a cocky asshole who has a problem with authority, and though bo kens that, it also drives him FUCKING INSANE when he is the authority figure
nick would hate bo because, well, it's obvious: bo killed some of his closest friends, including dalton, who nick may or may not have had romantic tension with; and wade, his sister's boyfriend. to say nothing of the fact that bo hunted, kidnapped, and tied up his sister with the intention of torturing her later
who would break first? i think bo would. bo's hatred of nick is the principle of the thing, an almost puerile anger that he was outsmarted; nick's hatred of bo is deeply personal
but! that would give bo some time to come to terms with being bisexual. nick doesn't need as much time to come to terms with that, so by the time they hooked up, they'd be on more or less the same page with everything
would it start out as hate sex? almost certainly. they're both so fucking frustrated they feel this way. it might even happen on accident tbh
bo would be completely oblivious to the fact that nick was kind of with dalton/had romantic tension with him. nick would have to be like "??? dude. that was basically my boyfriend what the fuck"
does bo feel remorse for killing people? no, not usually. does he eventually come to feel remorse for killing these particular people? well... yes and no. if he hadn't, he'd never have met nick. but it's a real pain in the ass for your boyfriend and his sister to hate you for killing all their friends, when someone else's friends woulda done just as well
god they butt heads so much. they're both have an extreme aversion to authority, though i would argue nick's is a little more combative. nick doesn't care what punishment he gets - he sees himself as above punishment, uncontrollable - while bo has been taught to fear punishment and has a strong sense of "respect." it is possible to make bo bend under your authority; i don't think it's possible to do it to nick, at least not in the same way
Florida Man. that's all i have to say on that
despite butting heads though, they also have a hell of a lot in common. they were both considered the "evil twin" at ages when they literally couldn't help themselves and needed help, love, and compassion. now they've grown to be men who genuinely do bad things because of the preconceived notions and perceptions of others
the difference between them, though, is that bo comes off as a nice guy but he's actually a MONSTER. nick comes off as a huge creep and a punk, he does shitty things to make himself seem hard and cool, but inside he's a good person. they're foils of each other and that's always sexy
their foil is all about redemption and presentation vs action but maybe i'm projecting
they are foils though so they have some core things in common: strong love for their family, specifically their respective twins; dedication and steadfastness; perseverance in the face of death; quick wit and cleverness, fast thinking; finally, a tendency to say mean things that they either regret later or don't actually mean, in an attempt to protect themselves from being vulnerable
i don't know if these two would ever be truly happy with one another - it would be a tumultuous relationship for sure - but they would understand each other in a lot of ways
and most importantly? bo might realize that, after everything he went through in his life, he made the choice to be a serial killer and torturer. things could have been different
whether or not anything would actually change, i'm not sure, but he MIGHT realize how deep a hole he truly dug himself
but he's too far in now, nothing to do about it, ya know?
if more people came through ambrose, nick and carly would be right there trying to help them escape. come hell or high water, no matter the consequences, they would try to help, even if they could never truly escape themselves
nick would bargain, beg, and steal to earn carly the right to go see their parents (or any other privilege). she should be allowed to be free even if he's not. he's very self sacrificing
okay so that was very chaotic but i hope you enjoyed some of my Thoughts!

Chapter Nine: A Cursed God
First Previous Next
Masterlist ao3
Notes:
Hope y'all enjoy!
///
Age One.
A child was carried in by several adults. Her name at birth Xia Bing Cheng, named after her mother. The child was so small to the gods. They had never blessed someone as young as her.
She was a very special case. A creative soul so young. And a child who should have never been born.
“Are you sure?” an elder questioned.
A mistake, never question a god.
“I am a god of course I am sure!”
“I am sorry, I just meant this child shouldn’t even be alive and now people are supposed to respect her.”
Tikki understood it sent the wrong message.
“Raise her as if she wasn’t blessed. Teach her a lesson, teach her parents a lesson. Make her an example that even the blessing of a god can not parten her, but never tell her of her blessing. Let her wonder why she has such a strange name. From this day on Xia Bing is no more. My chosen is Ladybug.”
Everyone bowed as the light blinded them.
The baby was too young to even remember the events when she grew older.
Age Fourteen.
Marinette wasn’t stupid she felt the eyes. Someone was watching her and she had a pretty good idea of who it was. Robin. She didn’t know what he had against her, but he clearly had a problem with her. Marinette figured that as long as she stayed with the kids at all times he wouldn’t do anything.
And she was right.
Except he wasn’t the only one lurking. Volpina was right there using a simple glamor to hide her presence.
Volpina watched her every move day and night noticing every small detail, from the way she did kids' hair to the food she fed them. Studying anything that could possibly be helpful for her to take Ladybug back. Alive. God, she hated that word. Who asks an assassin to bring someone back alive? Apparently the gods.
It was pathetic watching, once a flawless killer now a caretaker. A waste of talent.
But to Robin, it was enlightening. There was someone else besides Ladybug. Someone caring. She was beautiful. Until he caught a glimpse of her eye, they were still the eyes of Ladybug, the eyes that changed his life and left him haunted for years.
She was so different, yet the same. And he wasn’t sure what to do so he kept watching.
Marinette kept acting. She knew Robin wouldn’t go after children. She would be safe around them. She kept her guard up. She made sure the kids didn’t give any sensitive information up. She did not let Robin know she knew he was there, that she could feel his stare.
A part of Robin knew he shouldn’t have been watching her as much as he did. It was an invasion of not only her privacy but all the children. However, it wasn’t like he doubted the fact she knew he was there. Ladybug was once the best assassin in the world. He wasn’t getting by her senses and he knew that.
///
It took the rest of his family quite a while to figure out where he had been going.
But eventually, they pieced it all together and confronted him as he returned.
“Damian,” his Father stated, the tone was enough to stop the boy in his tracks, “We have some questions for you.”
“Of course,” Damian said as he turned to find a seat, “I assume you have learned where I have been spending my time?”
“Yeah you’ve been following Marinette,” Tim pulled up images of Robin following the back of a girl's head around the city.
“Care to tell us why?” Bruce asked.
Why was it a very good question? Damian didn’t really know why. He had told them lies about who she was already. Did he keep lying? Or is this where he changed the narrative.
“I wanted to make sure the children are safe with her.” LIE.
This girl made Damian Wayne a liar and he didn’t like it.
Jason laughed, wait had he been there the whole time, “I could have told you the kids are fine. I actually got to meet her, she was really good with the girl Em.”
“That was before we knew anything about her, Jason,” Bruce explained.
“That was before Damian brought his preconceived notions into anything,” Jason argued back, “She was a nice person, a bit sketchy, but who in Gotham isn’t sketchy.”
“Are you saying you think Damian is wrong about the girl?” Dick finally spoke up.
“I’m saying when Damian was nine he was also an assassin, but look at him now. We don’t know the girl's story. Her interaction with that kid was genuine, you can’t fake the protectiveness of the encounter. I could have used someone like her when I was a kid. She’s doing good.”
It was a bit of a cheap shot at Bruce, but Jason made his point.
“Maybe you're right, but should we really chance it?” Dick asked.
Damian had heard enough, “I am surveilling her, and will continue until I deem her fitting and unharmful.”
There was some muttering, but overall everyone seemed to be fine with the decision.
The next day Damian didn’t go back. He didn’t have the heart after the discussion that took place. Jason was right and he knew it. He did not inform the rest of the bats of his decision.

Age One.
“Your child has been blessed by the gods,” the elders’ explained to Tom and Sabine, “She is now Ladybug.”
There was shock on the parents’ faces.
“The gods have agreed this doesn’t excuse your crimes. She shall be treated the way any child similar to her would be. She shall have to earn her life. Under no circumstance is she to know of the gods' blessing. She is not special. Until she is told otherwise she is dirt.”
Tears. Born under other circumstances. This child would be praised. She would be more powerful than the elders. But instead, she was doomed.
She would never be able to understand the power she holds. Ladybug would be raised to feel inferior like a child. The reality was, she carried the power equivalent to the gods. Power she would never learn about.
Age Fourteen.
B a c k i n T i b e t
“When she returns what will we do with her?” Plagg asked.
“Train her, as punishment we make her the very thing she was afraid of, we make her a weapon,” Tikki said with a wicked grin.
Plagg and Sass shared a look. Tikki would tear the child apart, and everyone knew it.
B a c k to G o t h a m
Robin was gone, it had been a few days and she could finally be sure. She was safe. The kids were safe, they were all okay. Marinette was able to drop her guard.
Volpina grinned from the shadow. Finally, a chance for her to see the real Ladybug.
Notes:
So Xia Bing is actually Sabine's Chinese name according to the Shanghai special.
ANYWAYS...
I started school yesterday. It's been interesting. How are y'all doing?
And finally... Next Chapter: Damian and Marinette encounter each other.

Off-topic, but
✨Company Opinions✨
I'd say everyone's a little biased with what they grew up with. Honestly, my internet in cars is fairly new, (that is, when I actually started looking at them [about 3 yrs {I'm 23 now fyi}] for more than just "point A to Point B") so although I've already developed my bias I'm not really turned off with getting any car at this point.
So to start (probably won't do all companies)
Anything German (BMW/Porsche/Audi/Mercedes)
- Expensive/it breaks, your F'd
Japan (Toyota/Subaru/Nissan/Honda/Mazda etc.)
-Cheap/plentiful parts (though, I consider Mazda/Subaru as luxury)
-been told Toyota is super reliable.
-My parents have been sold on the Boxer engine (Subaru)
-where all the beautiful tiny coupes are at~
American (Dodge/Ford/Jeep/GM/Chevy)
-Generally suck(in an affordable way)/abundant parts
-only good things are really the trucks.
-love my Jeep, hate the mileage. (Love how it controls)
-Drove Fords before and you had to spin the wheel so much just to get it to turn. (My friend drives a Mustang, but it's a car I'm not really interested in.)
-NEVER own a Dodge Charger
I only really have experience with American and Japanese stuff personally. As those are the cars I've owned and growing up my family has owned. Really, you kinda have to approach it on a model by model basis. Pretty much every company has produced a dud at some point. I wouldn't discount Euro/American cars. Americans have made plenty of great fun cars. And if you do much of the work yourself you can probably afford something euro.
I like autocross and stuff like that so I tend to lean towards stuff that is small and light. Which if you look at what meets that criteria you can find stuff by all nationalities that's fits. It just happens that Japanese manufacturers make stuff that I can afford that accomplishes what I like. But if you hand me 100k right now I would probably go buy a lotus exige which is euro car. Corvettes are extremely competitive for the stuff I like to do as well, just outside of my price point personally. (Though c4s and c5s are reasonable if you can get past their junky interiors). Fuck I'm also considering picking up a Ford Fiesta ST so I can get into rallycross.
I guess what I'm trying to say is just do your research and don't discount some based on preconceived notions. I used to be pretty biased against Korean cars (hyundai/kia) but you know, cars like the veloster n and kia stinger and wonderful cars. All you have to do is look. Read some owners accounts of how it is to actually own them.

Thoughts on Fantasy, Justice, and Violence.
Marisha talked on the Talks episode after Beau learned about Xeenoth about how she’d allowed her preconceptions about this world, the real world, to influence her view of justice in Exandria.
She had no belief that Xeenoth would get in trouble for what he did, that her mentors would take the issue seriously, that an investigation would take place. She knew that that night was immensely traumatic for Beau but the idea of justice never really crossed her mind. It’s just how things worked, or so she assumed. But part of the fantasy is that her abuser (one of them at least thus far) was brought to face justice.
Now here’s the thing - I never thought that Xeenoth would get in trouble either. I had imposed the exact same set of preconceived notions about justice that Marisha had. And that made me wonder about the ideas of Justice in a fantasy setting.
Because I never once doubted that Caleb’s justice would come in the form of a violent, magical battle with Trent - but why? Why was I so sure that Caleb would find justice in death? Why was I so sure that the only justice was to be found in Trent’s death at the hands of Caleb?
The simple reasons are scale and context. Trent feels like a much bigger threat because of how long he’s been creating Scrougers like this and because of his power level, while we only know Xeenoth as an ‘flaky corn husk of a man’ who hurt Beau.
The much more complex reasons is that I didn’t see the King or the better members of the Assembly listening to Caleb. I didn’t think that that kind of justice was possible. But it was for Beau! And we know that the king does not know about how Trent creates his Scrouger Army, and that the Cobalt Soul is investigating and Yudala even has a specific push from Beau. Astrid and Eadwulf certainly seem to now acknowledge that Trent is wrong, going against his orders multiple times for Caleb. So is it actually that impossible?
What does justice mean for Caleb in this instance? Once upon a time, it was justice for his parents and he wanted to turn back time - that’s gone now. And once upon a time, justice might have looked like a fiery battle to the death with his old teacher - but do you think Caleb is unaware that Trent basically ordered him to do so? Or that if Astrid is the one to kill him, there’s still work to be done to stop this process of torturing kids?
Why should justice need to look like more death by Caleb’s will if not by his hand? Why shouldn’t it look like people of authority listening to an honest recollection of what Caleb endured and taking action? Why shouldn’t it be fixed by the ones who let it get broken in the first place?
Much like Beau, why should we assume that Caleb has to be the one to do it all? He hates Trent, yes. He wants to stop this cycle, yes. Neither of those mean he has to kill Trent and singlehandedly fix the system.
Once I started to examine my own assumptions on fantasy justice, I realized that it doesn’t work for everyone. Caleb wants the cycle of violence to end and maybe the fantasy of this game means that he won’t have to use violence to do it.
Deny Trent his last wish and let him rot away in a cell while the many many people work to fix what’s been broken. And perhaps Caleb isn’t even involved - that city and place holds a lot of trauma for him, after all.
This isn’t necessarily what I think will or won’t happen. But I suppose what’s the use of a fantasy game if you can’t have the fantasy of powerful people still being brought to justice through proper channels and without a long, drawn out, retraumatizing process?
Note: This reminds me of the ATLA finale a bit. The fantasy came from a 12 year old boy declaring that his people were not weak for their teachings and the universe listening and bending for him, not from the hour long fight. Everyone in the audience, including myself, thought it would be a sacrifice Aang had to make. But because it was a fantasy show, he didn’t.

I said at the beginning of the year that I would share my reviews more on my blog instead of just on Instagram and Goodreads. I’ve been reading a lot so far this year, so my reviews will be delayed on here.
Friend me on Goodreads here to read my reviews in real-time!

107. Amari and the Night Brothers by B.B. Alston--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Wow, this book had more of a punch than I anticipated! I think books like this one are super important--not just because of the content, but because of the audience it's geared towards. Young readers now are learning more and more about society than a lot of us did at their age, so I think it's perfectly fitting that a book like this one is out there for kids to devour. One of the things I liked the most about this book was the allegory of racism in a magical community. Usually in fantastical novels for kids (older ones, anyway), there's this belief that no matter what you look like, the moment you go to another magical place all of your worries about racism goes away because MAGIC. But in this one, not only did our MC have to contend with the racism in her normal life, she had to face more racism in her new life, just with a new title. So many of the actions taken against her by those around her, and the comments (like putting her brother on a pedestal because he was the star of the school and calling him the exception to the rule, or one girl actively telling her that "You can take the girl out of the ghetto, but not the ghetto out of the girl) really made me think that this poor kid went from one ignorant situation to another. Not only is she trying to find her brother and solve the mystery of his disappearance, but she also has to deal with racist and ignorant people around her. Imagine calling a child evil because of something they can't control. Imagine going out of your way to ensure that they fail. Imagine you or your child hearing the things this child heard while trying to just do her best in a system that's always been made to be against her, both in the human world and in the magic world. Imagine, imagine, imagine. Another thing I loved about this book was her resilience. She is brave, and smart, and has such a big future in this new world of hers. I'm so excited to read the rest of this series as it comes out. This book was POWERFUL and I highly recommend it. Not just for the young readers in your life, but I think parents and other readers would highly benefit from reading Amari's story.

108. Mindy Kim & the Yummy Seaweed Business by Lyla Lee--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Okay, this book was ADORABLE. I haven’t read a 6-8 book in a long time and I’m thankful to my friend on Instagram who recommended these books! Mindy has to deal with not only her grief about losing her mom and her dad’s busy schedule (as well as his own grief), but she’s also at a new school in a new State where she is the only Asian student. I’ve mentioned this in some of my most recent reviews, but I love that these important topics are being discussed in children’s books. We see moments of racism in this book where Mindy is left upset, even if she doesn’t fully understand just why certain comments and actions are so hurtful. And even if she doesn’t dwell on it, a parent reading this with their little one would notice and hopefully learn if they see their own behaviours mirrored in the actions of some of these adults. But we also see moments of kindness and love as a young girl tries her best to find ways to make her dad happy. Despite the heavier undertones in this book, there was an overall feel of sweetness and childhood innocence. The ability to apologize when you know you’re in the wrong, the innocence of emotions getting away from you, and the sweetness of a daughter loving her father. This was a great read and I highly recommend it for everyone, but especially the little ones in your life who will be entering situations where books like these and their lessons are really important.

109. The Dead Zone by Stephen King--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This one, I felt, held more of an emotional punch rather than a creepy feeling. I really enjoyed it! I loved the psychic angle and the MC proving the people who didn’t believe him or mocked wrong. Also, this was a King book that actually made me want to cry at the end. I didn’t give it a 5 because of some really slow moments. While I love that his stories always have a way of coming together at the end, certain scenes sometimes feel long, boring, or confusing. I’d recommend this for anyone who wants to read a King book that isn’t scary and if you’re a fan of 11/22/63!

110. Takane & Hana Vol. 1 by Yuki Shiwasu--⭐️⭐️⭐️
This one took me a while to read. I found that I wasn’t really in the mood to read it every time I picked it up—which is so different from when I pick up a manga I really want to read. The story had some funny bits and the artwork was gorgeous, but it really bugged me how every new chapter re-introduced the love interest. Over and over and over again. I get it: he’s rich, arrogant, and an asshole. Can’t you trust us to remember these key personality traits? But it wasn’t even just that. We were constantly re-introduced to the premise of the story. I don’t know how common this is WITHIN the same volume, but I haven’t encountered it yet—and if I have, it wasn’t as annoying as this one. I’ll keep reading the story because I’m curious, but this first volume was a bit of a rougher read for me.
___
111. You Have A Match by Emma Lord--⭐️⭐️⭐️.5
I think the thing with this book is that the cover tells a different story than what really matters in this book. Yes, there’s a friends to more relationship in this, but the main storyline is about two girls who find out they’re sisters and are trying to solve that mystery. This isn’t a romcom—the romance is a super side story to the main storyline. And to be honest, I really enjoyed it. I wanted to see why these two sisters lived their whole life separated. I enjoyed the process and the friendships created along the way. I felt for the parents, but at the same time, I felt more for the girls. There were instances where I wanted to yell at the parents because they kept putting the reveal off. This was enjoyable overall—a great summer read. Not particularly memorable, but it does what it sets out to do: makes you question the strength of friendships and what they can overcome. Also, Instagram.

112. Patron Saints of Nothing by Randy Ribay--⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
When my friend raved about this book I was both excited and intimidated. I usually try to avoid hypes surrounding books because I go in with too-high expectations and a lot of the time, the expectations crush me while I’m reading. Thankfully, the hype is very well-deserved with this one. For me, the most important aspect of this book that stuck with me wasn’t the mystery surrounding the MC’s cousin’s death, but the character growth the MC himself experiences during the time of his investigation. Identity sounds like a pretty clear cut thing sometimes, but it’s a lot harder to know your own when you’re the child of an immigrant family. You live in a new country, get accustomed to new expectations and customs, and inevitably feel a culture shock when you’re re-introduced to the culture your parents grew up in. I saw myself so much in this MC. From my childhood to my current adult years, people have thought that they could define me and who I am simply because I say I’m this or this. But while others make a quick judgment, they don’t see the internal struggle. They don’t see you questioning yourself on whether you’re enough of this, or whether you’re enough of that. I think teenage me would have loved this book even more. The MC is constantly faced with criticism about his father choosing to move them to the States from the Philippines. The judgments and the preconceived notions of him and his family make him not only weary because he recalls how his uncle treated his father the first time he visited, but also wary because it sets him down this road of self-reflection. I haven’t read many (if any, unfortunately) books where a character goes to the Philippines. I’m so thankful to this book. I learned so much about the culture, the foods, and the struggles faced not just financially, but politically as well. I remember reading about some of the topics brought up in this book and it was extremely eye-opening. It’s so easy for us to look away because we have that privilege, but this book says, “No, look at me. I exist.” The MC, in his journey, also learns to speak up and use his voice. Not just against ignorant friends, but an annoyingly smug and verbally abusive uncle (who I hated to all hell). He also learns to listen. He learns that though not every story is perfect, they still have power. I think this is a great read for those who have one foot in two different worlds (hands and arms can be in other worlds, too). Especially if you’re trying to understand this part of you that wasn’t developed as you grew up. I’d also recommend it to readers who want to learn more about this struggle, learn more about a different culture that is more than its stereotypes, and/or want to read about a young teenager trying to come to terms with his grief and guilt.
___ Have you read any of these books? Would you recommend them?
___
Happy reading!
