I don’t know what your preference in woke-ish character, but I like how MXTX wrote her female characters that while they are not necessarily powerful, they are competent.

From Baoshan Sanren, Lan Yi, and Wen Qing who is expert in healing.

Then Ling Wen & Yushi Huang, who are equally competent in their respective field.

MXTX didn't need to make her female characters being top tier combatants.

But she shows their value through their competence alone.

Though sometimes I still wish a female character who can also become a top tier combatant in MXTX’s verse, but with her balanced flaw as well. We may already got that in Baoshan Sanren, but we need more about her story than just being a mere background character.

Sometimes she likes to be criticized for not helping Wei Ying and Xue Yang, but that is her flaw, that she is not omniscient.

Which is totally fine to me.

I see a ton of SVSSS stuff on tumblr and am kinda curious but the teacher/student romance aspect kinda puts me off…is it worth reading anyway?

well, if it helps, the lead himself is equally put off by the student/teacher aspect, if not more. and it's frankly the least of their problems

more seriously-- because of the transmigration, the book is so meta, and therefore it doesn't quite come off as your standard student/teacher thing? during the phase of the book when Binghe is a teenager and actively SQQ's student, SQQ is constantly seeing him in this kind of double-vision of being charmed by this unexpectedly sweet kid (who, we see in extras, he not only doesn't have sexual feelings for, but can't even recognize that Binghe has a crush) and being aware of/frightened of the adult Binghe who he (thinks) he knows is coming. his perspective on Binghe is always shaped by the fact that he already "knows" him as an adult.

and speaking of SQQ's perspective/obliviousness... the thing I found way more off-putting the first time I read it was my failure to recognize how unreliable SQQ's narration is, so I spent the whole book like "does he even... like him??????" so like not only does it not come across as an inappropriate teacher-student thing, if you don't realize that you need to be reading between the lines of SQQ's responses and basically ignoring everything he says he doesn't feel, it can come across as not even a romance at all. once you realize that SQQ is none self-awareness (with left beef) and you have to look at what he does and not what he says, it becomes clear that he has always cared for Binghe.

my very specific urge to 3D beam svsss has put me in a chokehold and now i'm currently learning how to use blender (or at least, trying to. i don't know what's going on most of the time lol)

but, like. not in the donghua way. in an arcane, spiderverse way. can you imagine just how gorgeous that would look? i genuinely feel like it'd match svsss so well too, with how deliciously expressive both animations are

the mix of 2D and 3D.. arcane's character designs, raw emotion, almost painter-like style... spiderverse's fun way of using frames and colors. it'd pair especially nicely with sqq's inner monologues, action scenes, the absolute pain of the endless abyss arc.. all that jazz! like just think abt it..

anyways, i genuinely really want to at least try and create some small animation or/and 3D based game (yes i'm actually considering it) with this idea but i have. absolutely no idea where to start. if you guys have any tips on learning animation, art, etc... pls give advice <3 (or not)

While I contemplate dubious life choices, consider:

MXTX Charas in Warriors Orochi 3

For the uninitiated, WO3 is a xover game between Koei Tecmo's 2 big Warriors series: Dynasty Warriors (the 3 kingdoms one) and Samurai Warriors (the sengoku one). And also a bunch of other characters from mythology and other Koei franchises. And Joan of Arc. The very basic plot is Orochi has thrown the multiverse into a blender and everyone teams up to defeat him.

In the third game, this takes the form of the world ending, and the last few survivors joining forces with Princess Kaguya to travel back in time, get the band back together, and set right what once went wrong.

In order to give its absurdly large cast (~150) some time in the spotlight, aside from the main plot stages, there are a bunch of side stages where various characters go off to have their own little adventure, allowing for a lot of fun combinations of characters and a lot of banter during the stages themselves. (And base camp conversations which are especially addicting to unlock)

And I just think it would be fun to have the MXTX characters join in on that whether it's just an mxtx xover or if they get to meet and hand out with the rest of the musou cast

And also I put a lot of time into thinking up Musou-style weapons and stages for at least the MDZS cast xD

WWX is summoned in his original body (possibly without timeskip memories), and MXY gets summoned in his original body which results in a lot of awkwardness for people who are used to WWX in his body and especially those who have never seen WWX's original form. MXY really does not want to be here but is also excited to meet WWX

3zun features a very reluctant alliance between NMJ (who is summoned from before JGY kills him) and JGY (who is from after he kills NMJ but before Guanyin temple. LXC is in the same boat). They have managed to put their differences aside for now on account of the world ending.

3zun's stage features NMJ dying to save the other two :D

The Redux version features JGY saving him which is what allows the truce

NHS has been missing since the whole thing began, which naturally worries NMJ a lot. His side stage involves him and another character or 2 (possibly from other series) going to find him. They find that NHS has been doing a decently okay job defending a castle under siege

NHS is in his headshaker era but subdued because Da-ge is alive again and his emotions are a bit of a mess because of this. He still plays up the act in front of JGY though, out of habit.

The time headaches are part of the fun :D

Also NHS' weapon is either his fan or bird, Maria Renard style

Jin Ling finally gets to meet his parents! :D

They are perfectly accepting of their son suddenly being ~15 years old

Meanwhile post-timeskip JC gets to reunite with his parents and the whole thing feels very awkward

Madam Yu spends her first two camp conversations still in tiger mother mode. But in the last one finally reveals how proud she is of JC

JFM is also going to reconcile with his son because JIANG CHENG DESERVES NICE THINGS!

Whatever stage Feng Xin gets recruited on will prominently feature Liu Mingyan, Jiang Yanli, and Wang Lingjiao. For Reasons.

Not sure who would be the best fit for the final 3 who live to see the end of the world but I'm thinking Shang Qinghua, Jiang Cheng, and Quan Yizhen maybe? (idk who's filling the time machine role of Princess Kaguya yet... something something there's a door in heaven somewhere.)

If this is an xover with the rest of musou, Nie Huaisang & Liu Shan are best friends and I don't take criticism.

Okay I've read the main body of SVSSS. I think it's really good as a meta parody and gives some interesting insight into MXTX's mind- I think some of the criticism of her work is unfair and this book is a pretty good example in parts (the running commentary about misogyny in stallion novels is a lot more unambiguous than her accurately depicting misogyny in others wirks like MDZS, though I don't understand why the latter gets read as an indication of her as a person).

However I don't think it works well as a romance story. There are main two problems; one,that while all of MXTX's main characters are people that have gone through the wringer and lashed out on others because of it, sometimes in really grusome and reprehensible ways, we get to see who they are not just before it goes to shit, but after they've acted in a such a way and either by intentional choice or just the passing of time, behave in a kinder and more upright manner. SVSSS's main story ends right after LBH isn't being an antagonistic force driven to the pits. Additionally, LBH is (understandably) a very misanthropic character which makes the way you'd show him learning how to be a person not driven by grief, fear, and anger different.

The other point is SY/SQQ's internalized homophobia is handled in a way that distracts somewhat from his feelings for LBH, and this combines with a lot of the things taken as romantic by other characters being misinterpretions of his internal world. Some of the latter seems to be him bullshitting himself though- "I'm not crying because I'm facing down my beloved student who I've failed horribly and hates me before I off myself without knowing for sure if my contingency plan will work, the sun's just in my eyes", sure Jan. Given how WWX acts its clear that MXTX now knows how to balance internalized homophobia with the character falling in love even if he doesn't realize it, and TGCF doesn't really have internalized homophobia on the protagonists part as far as I've read, he's just a sworn virgin. (However one could argue HC had some issues when he was human depending on how you read the Land of the tender scene).

SVSSS is short compared to her other works, and while I'm not sure how one would do it, having us spend some time with LBH and SQQ after they've gotten rid of his evil sword and SQQ is helping him work through his misanthropy, desire for control, and abandonment issues would improve their relationship from a story perspective, especially because of how obsessive and unhealthy LBH has spent... 8 years of his life regarding SQQ. There's already a foundation with LBH taking SQQ back to his home peak to be taken care of after his near death experience and leaving alone when he gets chased off, and SQQ choosing to go with him with no pressure on him to do so other than LBH's wellbeing (which is no longer tied to things like the apocalypse). I just think there needs to be a bit more between that and what I'm reading in the extras so far.

And it is needed because of how much LBH's dark behavior was directed at SQQ. WWX's dark behavior wasn't so targeted, LWJ's had an instance of targeting but a large part of the novel has been about him doing his best to respect WWX's boundaries and not repeat his parents relationship. I'm not up to snuff on what happened after XL's first banishment yet so I'll keep quiet on that. LBH is so desperate for this one person's affection that he almost destroys the world to ensure he has no other choice but him (and they have terrible fuck or die sex that no one enjoys about it). Evil sword possession making him decide this was a good idea or no, to work as a satisfying romance story, you need to after of all that. Especially because the evil sword had the ability to push him that far because of how chaotic and wrecked his mental and spiritual state were. They're still wrecked.

The value of not acting like a monster even if it's expected #Hell maybe have his relationship with SHL improve so they're not romantic but he's not holding her in such contempt #Or make her turn traitor because of his contempt for her #Thereby expanding the theme about women not just being harem collectibles by having her have a platonic relationship with him or by having #Her take logical actions instead of just sticking to LBH like glue for ??? Reasons #I could write this but I have several wips already and I don't feel well versed enough in Chinese culture to write fanfic for it #(Or any of MXTX's works. It's not about feeling not allowed to its about wanting to pay respect to the work #And wanting to do it in a way I'll be satisfied with)
