normally i would pick enemies to lovers but for nevermore i would pick forbidden love. unfortunately nevermore only features platonic love though.

VILLAIN - do you prefer creating heroes or villains?

call me a pick me girl, but i prefer multifaceted characters who aren't 100% either or - dark heroes and justified villains, that's my bread and butter. and you, my friend, my problem, can vouch for me on this one because you once spent three days yelling at me about that one girl in if only we knew. what the heck was her name. winona? her murderous rage was absolutely justified anyway and we all know it.

for nevermore specifically? i guess i'm gonna have to say heroes cause like i'm looking at my lists of ocs and like shanyu is fine i guess, joon is a horrible person and i hate him, seonhwa and hana? loml. can't let them go. jinae? mentioned her in passing and now i'm just searching for an opportunity for her to be relevant. she's my reserve driver. just give me a reason.

UNICORN - what makes your WIP and your writing stand out?

yeah sure i'll talk myself up. i've always thought that my fics are very niche and scratching a specific itch, which i think is the main reason i've always found it really hard to build an audience. it's what i love though, and what inspires me - following the usual tropes doesn't satisfy me the way that a whole thinkpiece on a weird sidecharacter does...or yknow. blowing that thinkpiece out into a 200k novel.

recently, i think that my writing has become far more refined, and i think i've started to find ways to slip into more popular genres of fic while still remaining interested in my work, which has in turn granted me the audience that i've built around things like queenmaker.

in this way, zombies was a really important phase in fanfic for me to go through - though we got very little out of those three years apart from our own satisfaction in the fics we wrote and ideas we explored, i think it was really beneficial for me to meet you guys and be encouraged into writing oneshots and stories featuring the main characters rather than continuing to hang around the fringes and work with ocs or side characters that i treated like ocs.

and now i'm learning new lessons from self insert and smau fiction. the world should fear and respect me. one day i'm going to become a god.

TREASURE - what's the best thing about the world of your WIP?

a mean question to ask about nevermore when you know how gd endless that world is. uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. can i say that it has source content for me to lean on and i didn't have to make it all up from scratch?

i guess i can say that, because one of the things that was the most fun was digging around in music videos and lyrics to figure out how many worlds there were, how to connect them in a way that in turn made the story make sense as i followed it in album order, and how to turn a very vague and wild lore into a story that had a bit of followable logic attached to it.

in lieu of that answer being accepted, i was thinking about this the other day and i love that it's a world that you kind of do want to fall into and live in. i really worked at making miroh a kind place that you really would love to stumble into, rather than a world like the hunger games or something where you're like, mmmm, it's a cool idea but lets not go there. the cle really is a world where it's like, hey, if you really love music, you would love this place and it would love you!

GOD - does your world have a religion? is it, in this world, right?

for valleys? mmmmm yes, i suppose the wolves and the urshing/cataan's people do have their own religions, and they are right. in a way, strigoi also worship moonstone, though that's more of a drug addiction kind of thing than religion.

the wolves have a strong shared history and belief system, they pass down their history and prophecies through songs and stories and carry out rituals. their religion is built around the existance of moonstone and the connection of it to their life force - and they also have seers who can tell the future and are held in high regard. their beliefs are all based around things that are true, and their seers really are capable of creating prophecies that will come true - so i suppose that yes, their religion is right.

the people of cataan also have seers and mindreaders, children worshipped as the elite of their society and catapulted into power just by virtue of the talent they were born with. They're probably, actually, a very unreligious people, but they do have prophecies that they believe in, and an almost cult-like type of society.

QUEEN - what is the earliest planned historical event in your novel?

geez what a question. there is a point where theresa literally witnesses the creation of the universe so like. is that it. does that count?

in terms of the chronological events of the novel uhhhhhhhhhh. the apocalypse is a pretty big historical event that happens pretty quickly. so. yeah.

Their go-to cure for a bad day?  Helping others wherever she can always makes her feel better!  esp if she can correct misfortunes etc!  spending time w her sister and friends, taking a few brief moments for herself, a walk amongst the gardens in the sunshine or by the water or amidst the trees -- out in nature!, quality time esp w Eithne and her sisters!

What definitive step could they take to turn their dream into a reality?  well, on a small scale, any lil change she makes is helpful, but to the bigger stuff she’s in a biT of a catch-22 bc if she yields to this marriage, she's surrendered her nation to the corruption that is the varmont empire -- you only need to look at the varmont family to see this dude shouldn't be father of a nation tbqh! but if she doesn't (w/ the caveat that the old ways would be respected of course! she def aint giving in w/o that! which is why its been two years of stalement bc both she and roderick are stubborn af), literally everyone is doomed! so there's literally no way to keep true to her integrity and still achieve her goals! this is pr much a nightmare scenario for eilia ngl

How has their fear kept them from taking this action already? ultimately, eilia has v little real trust in herself. she is determined and unswerving which keeps her from giving up, but part of her wishes she simply could. bc she fears that someone -- perhaps anyone else -- might be better for the role in which she finds herself, she second guesses every choice before her, but she won't give up the fight. there's a way to save everyone -- she has to believe that there is

How does your protagonist feel they can accomplish their goal while still steering clear of the thing they are afraid of? eilia believes that if she can keep one ohand on the wheel, even as roderick's latest bride, she can help steer the world towards a better outcome than it currently faces, even if roderick cannot be swayed on matters of religion. bc of this, she is currently contemplating relenting and marrying him in order to quietly rebel from within, but she feels this might ultimately ultimately lead to the worst outcome of all, which has so far stopped her from going forward with this option

Trying to Make Sworn Brotherhood Work - posted by u/throwRAthirdbrother

This is an unusual situation, but I really want to make this work.

Me (20M), my close friend Blue (20M), and his friend & my former boss Green (22M) swore ourselves to each other in a sacred ceremony to bring our families closer together. I went into this hoping that it would bring the three of us closer together too -- Green and I had a bit of a spat about two years ago, and he still harbors resentment from the incident. 

Green still sometimes treats me like I'm his employee, while also expecting me to be able to reverse my father's decisions. My relationship with my father is complex and I won't get into it, but suffice to say Green should know I have no influence over what he or his company does. Regardless, it's best to appease him. Green has a disorder that makes emotional regulation difficult; even with his medication, he is prone to fits of rage or paranoia, which often cast me as the "bad guy." I know that based on just this information, many of you will tell me to dump him; that is not an option I want to pursue at the moment. I want to explore every option to overcome our problems, not dispose of them.

This situation is putting pressure on my relationship with Blue as well -- he's a wonderful, kind, generous man who I admire greatly, and I don't wish for all our time together to be spent talking about Green. Currently, he is teaching me the qin, and how to play the song Green's psychiatrist has recommended playing to help calm him; it is going well, and I wish to continue these lessons once I have learned the song. However -- we're both very busy, and have limited time together. I'm afraid that when all our interactions revolve around Green, I am not as able to savor it as much as I would like. 

I seek advice about how to better manage Green, so that his fits do not escalate, and to repair our relationship. I truly do want to come to a better place with him, where we can interact on a more even footing; in the meantime, I need to remain safe. If anyone has been in a similar situation, I welcome your guidance especially.

I think a good first step would be to sit down with Green and have a conversation about the incident from two years ago -- and crucially, to apologize for whatever parts of it caused the most hurt. I know that is the hardest part, but it also needs to happen in order for your relationship to begin to heal. I also hope that you know that your friends and family are there to support you -- don't hesitate to reach out to them! I would be honored if my BIL trusted me enough to ask for my help, and I am sure there are people in your life for whom this is true as well. Best wishes, Yanli.

Fake dating

during the last superhuman registration thing where Clint and Kate disappeared for a while? They wanted to stay together so they were actually fake MARRIED in the suburbs with their rescue dog (technically true, Clint did rescue Lucky!). Clint wound up as part of the homeowner’s association. Kate wound up on a school board and she’s still not quite sure how that happened. 

it was totally fine, they were TOTALLY FINE pining from their separate bedrooms and being oblivious idiots until 1.) their neighbor Jerome asks when their anniversary is because wink wink nudge nudge they’ve been in the neighborhood for a year they should have a party! (DON’T forget your anniversary dude that’s never good) and 2.) one of their across the street neighbors propositions one of them for an affair and Kate’s like, look, that’s very flattering, but I take my fake marriage vows very seriously and Clint is all hangdog like she should find SOME happiness and then it all comes out very messy and they have a real date after being married for a year :,)

Bodyswap

MORE PINING and they’re trying to be VERY RESPECTFUL of each other’s bodies but nobody can tell they’ve swapped until Kate and Clint tell them, and Natasha is just in a corner “smdh what did i do to deserve this”

Kate and Clint basically go “well our partnership is already awkward af now, may as well go for it” and they have sex, which switches them back into their own bodies

Kate gets dosed with some weird alien shit and they figure out it’s a fuck it out of your system or die scenario and Kate is in extreme pain crossing people off of a mental list, like Noh and Tommy and Eli are all people she trusts but they’ll turn it into something it isn’t and suddenly Clint is banging on the window of her isolation room all KATE ARE U OK??? And Kate’s like, look. You are my best friend, I love and trust you, and I kind of need you to fuck me.

And Clint is internally scrEAMing like, is this a trick, he thought they were past this and Kate had him firmly in the “human disaster you love but also despair of” category, like, he never hoped his feelings would be reciprocated only they AREN’T but he LOVES KATE so he has to do this for her and be cool about it, be cool Barton, be cool, and Clint is just in AGONY over getting something he really, really wants in a way he never wanted it

After a few hours Kate is out of the danger zone and she lets slip that she’s going to need some time away from him to learn how to be normal with him again, maybe this was a bad idea because she likes him too much, and Clint’s heart plummets until she finishes her sentence and he says, “please don’t ever be normal.” and it’s very romantic

Dark!fic

Clint never gets recruited by SHIELD, he’s always just this side of being a bad guy. The boys never crash Kate’s sister’s wedding, so she never becomes a young avenger. She does, however, take her place in Derek’s budding criminal empire. She’s a feared crime lord in her own right when Clint is hired to kill her. They have a very civil conversation over a nice cup of coffee when he’s supposed to be killing her, at which point they figure out Derek wants Kate dead. Clint kills Derek, allowing Kate to take his place, and they expand their rule of the city, getting rid of vigilantes and gangs alike

Secret kinks

Clint wants Kate to peg him so, so bad. If only he got up the nerve to bring it up, Kate would HAPPILY oblige. They’re both into bondage and edging, but Kate’s deepest, darkest secret is that she wants to be a sub every now and then, Just, to not be in charge, just to get to feel and not think. It’s not her go-to, but every now and then....anyway, she trusts Clint with everything, so she trusts him with this, too

Their first kiss

they fell asleep during a comfort marathon of dog cops, curled up together on Clint’s couch after a mission that went ever-so-slightly awry. Kate rolls over and yawns right in his face. “Rude,” Clint says, then yawns in her face. “We should go to bed.”

“Buy me dinner first, dude.”

“I just did!”

“You expensed it. Doesn’t count.”

He’s going to say something smartassy, but Kate looks sort of serious, is she for real? Does she want to go get dinner with him?

And then her lips are pressed to his, dry and cracked and very soft and sweet. And Clint half thinks he’s dreaming until Kate has a weird muscle leg twitch that winds up with her kneeing him in the junk and he’s laughing and groaning and bitching and Kate’s apologizing and almost falling off the couch so he hauls her closer, pins her rogue leg with one of his, and kisses her again.

Meeting the parents

it goes terribly. i don’t know how it happens but someone absolutely winds up stabbed

no, 2 people wind up stabbed, and one of them is Clint

Moving in together

Their teams are super confused because they were all under the impression the hawkeyes already roosted lived together??? Which they DON’T but they sort of do, this is just them officially moving in together and sharing bills and stuff. Eventually Clint will concede that Kate helped steal the money that bought the building , so technically it should also be hers. Eventually he gets her name on the deed and that’s part 1 of Clint’s Big Proposal Plan

Moving in is totally fine! Goes off without a hitch!!!

In the aftermath of SHIELD’s fall, Clint’s philosophy is “a moving target is harder to hit” and he remembers these old stories from his carnie days and one memorable episode with an actual honest-to-god vampire, katie-kate, and this BURLY ATTRACTIVE MAN DECAPITATED HIM AND HE VANISHED INTO A PUFF OF DUST I’M NOT CRAZY and Kate has a pretty high threshold for weird bullshit and you know what? turns out they’re actually pretty good at it. Kate’s really good at coming up with new weapon ideas (a mister filled with salted holy water, for example) and Clint has a knack for getting into trouble. They have at least one shouting standoff with the Winchesters. Dean flirts very ineptly with Kate and Clint. 

I feel like they are PINING and they share motel rooms to save money and for safety which of course gives us ample ‘there was only one bed” opportunities and LOTS of hurt/comfort with Kate and Clint patching each other up and Clint gently tucking a wayward strand of Kate’s hair behind her ear

Buckle up, y’all, cause this is going DEEP INTO SPOILERS. This is my no-holds-barred take on Children of Virtue and Vengeance!

Okay, I gotta open with a minor - but really the only - critique I had about CVV: we know Tomi was rushed in finishing the book in time for the third pushed back date, and the book kinda reads like it. Book 1, I felt like we got a lot more detail and getting to know characters and buildup of the plot. Book 2, it felt like we were just rushing to get through all the action planned. There wasn’t very much in between downtime, which resulted in not only a kinda rushed book with way more plot than pages, but also a very emotionally devastating book. 

Which leads me to: I feel like the central theme of CoBaB was more “hope”, while in CoVaV it was straight up “conflict”. And there was no recovery time. Even the precious few hopeful times that were in the book, I didn’t really have time to process or chill or cope. I always knew something worse was coming, which is what made this such a raw read. I do think the book could have benefited from giving us a little more hope. Like three-quarters of the way through, I had to keep thinking back to CBB and how I felt reading it and hoping there would be more hopeful and optimistic feelings in book 3. I couldn’t put the book down, but as a result, I pretty much just sobbed through the last fourth (at least) of the book, finished the book, sat in shock, and then went to bed. This book literally exhausted me. What a godsdamned ride.

I completely get why the book was like this, even if it wasn’t as a result of being rushed, but I feel a little more for the readers to balance it out helps us survive, lol.

That aside, there was SO MUCH in this book, I have SO MANY feelings!!!

Firstly, the worldbuilding was GREAT. I loved the new insight we got on magic. I totally didn’t realize frm book 1 that tîtans and maji were different and used magic differently for the most part.

With the direction of the ending, I’m not sure Tomi will go in this direction, but I’d like to know more about these differences. Why is it that chants can work for tîtans but maji can only use magic through chants? Is it just most effective? Will we discover they can use raw magic in book 3? I HAVE QUESTIONS.

Learning about the maji clan setups was also really interesting, but I have to admit it threw me for a bit of a loop referring to the leaders as elders and then they were all children. xP

Also, I’m really glad Tomi listened and gave us queer characters. I love Nâo and Khani. Powerful leader girlfriends? HELL YEAH.

I think this book made it really clear that Zélie x Amari is not end game and will not happen. I know a lot of people were/still are hopeful for that, but I think there’s just too much set up that says otherwise. They love each other, but imo they firmly think of each other as family. I’m going to put my stock in our canon queer couple and support them 10,000%.

Next big one: FUCKING HELL INAN STILL BEING ALIVE, I AM REALLY NOT HAPPY. I didn’t check out the chapters in the table of contents, so I didn’t have the forewaring to see that Inan was getting perspective chapters again, so it took my by quite a bit of surprise. A lot of you called that Inan would still be alive, but I honestly so prefer “dead means dead” in stories (otherwise, I find deaths are used too much for shock value and it just devalues the overall story and plot) that I had myself convinced he really was dead. He got a convincing death scene. Listen, if you kill off a character, I am going to grieve them. It is not going to be the same if you bring them back. I will have completely detached feelings for them and have to form a whole new relationship and perspective on them, and I am always going to keep them at a distanced because they were dead, I saw it happen, and there is no going back.

But no. BAM! He’s not only alive but Zélie is the one to wake him from his connector coma. Not happy. I really feel that Inan’s story played out in CoBaB. It’s interesting that I’ve seen some real anti-Inan folk feeling more sympathy for Inan in this book, while I’ve talked about feeling that Inan was a really compelling villain in book 1, but I’ve got much more negative feelings towards him throughout book 2.  (And also why the hell should Inan get to come back but all these little maji kids - Zulaikha and Mazeli, c’mon - die and die for real??? It feels very cheap and very shock value to me. I don’t know if it was like some statement on privilege or Tomi just didn’t want to be done with Inan, but yeah.)

Honestly, the way Inan and Amari think in this book is so similar, and I found it so fucking conceited and narrow-minded. My view on both of them went down in this book. They just kept talking about how they have to be so selfish and they’re the only ones who can see things for how they are and how damn much they sacrifice and how tired they are because it’s up to them to sacrifice everything. Like!!! GUYS. No.

From the beginning when the CVV summary was released, I was wary of the plot focusing on Amari leading the people. It’s one of those things like: the system is not broken. It’s functioning exactly as it intends to. The monarchy has evolved to uphold a class system where diviners and maji are at the bottom. That’s what it wants to be doing. Can you really effectively change the system by accepting the system as your basis for change? Maybe it’s time to deconstruct the system and build something better. Not just put a royal back on the throne and think that’s gonna go smoothly.

And that’s exactly what happened here. They tried to use the system to buck the system and everything collapsed around them.

But I’m getting a little off topic - fixing a system of bigotry and oppression that your people built is not a sacrifice. You are still in the position of power here.

And Inan’s little bit where he thinks he’s so good and pure and better than his father because he offers the maji a place in society if they bend to his rules and follow him when the other option is that he will murder them had me wanting to tear my hair out. “Follow me or perish” is not a compromise. It’s not improvement. It’s literally a threat. And then when the maji don’t take this offer, Inan takes this as a sign that his mother was right and they can’t trust the maji to make the right decisions!?!?

Ugh. I was just done. I know all the factors of why I originally had sympathy for Inan are still there, and they largely control how he acts and thinks in CVV. (What he really needs for character growth and development is to be away from toxic influences and given time to grieve and work on figuring himself out. Not thrust into a position of power with his mother holding all the strings.) So, for me, Inan’s character really hit a wall, always getting stuck in the same patterns. And so now I feel less sympathy for him and find his story less compelling.

I honestly found Inan’s cousin, Ojore, really interesting. I think it could have been a really compelling story if somehow Ojore was allowed to take up the throne. WIth his background, being there in the burner attack that killed Saran’s father, he had a lot of backstory that we could have explored. And Tomi still could have revealed that it was Nehanda that manipulated things and let the burners in to encourage the war and the genocide against maji. Without Inan, we could have really gotten to explore how Ojore would react to that while on the throne. He could have potentially gone through the character development that Inan will never really get to see. Instead of him being killed pretty much immediately after he learns the truth behind his family’s death and the attack on him.

That being said, I do respect Inan’s decision to give up his position in the end. I think the whole “I’ll let your murder me” and Zélie apparently going to go through this was a little… contrived. But at least Inan did pull it out in the end. It will be interesting to see how these last moments between Inan and Zélie come into play in the next book. I’m assuming either Inan has been taken with the rest or will mount a rescue to go after them, so you know we’re going to get more on how this relationship develops. 

(I think with Tzain done with Amari right now, Amari and Inan trying to navigate a new siblingship with each other will be a more interesting relationship than Inan x Zélie, and I would look forward to getting to see these sibs talk and get to actually be there for each other like they never have before.)

And since I just went through Inan, let’s go ahead and talk about Amari.

Oh, Amari.

Amari, Amari, Amari.

GIRL. Why did it take you this entire book to realize that making decisions based off of what your father would have done was the wrong damn thing to do!?!?!? Omg, we all knew that was gonna crash and burn on you. The entire purpose of overthrowing your father’s rule was to not do things his way because his way was cruel and malicious. smdh

I was still rooting for Amari throughout the book. I am still rooting for Amari, but damn. She sure did try to make it hard doing things like going back on promises right after she made them (forcing Zélie to teach her chants that didn’t belong to her and then immediately using them on a maji) and acting like she new better than all the maji (I agree that just wanting to kill all the nobles and other peoples wasn’t a feasible plan, but GIRL. These are a traumatized, hunted people. They’re going to be angry, especially right in the thick of a war. Strongarming your way into a position of power over them is not going to make them feel any better about you or bring about peace. It’s just going to show them that they cannot trust you). And her move at the end? Sacrificing Zélie and all those people in that village? Being willing to murder them all? … If killing her father fucked her up, what’s this going to do? I still have faith in her. I want her to come back from this. But she’s going to have to majorly confront her own feelings and actions and work very hard to come back from this. Though, I have a feeling that she’ll mostly get forgiven in the next book because bigger and worse things will happen and they’ll have to come together, regardless of how they feel about each other.

Amari’s realization in the end when she decides she doesn’t have to kill her mother (uh… was I the only one expecting some sort of Avatar moment like when Aang took away Ozai’s bending? Like… Nehanda is still a threat… this part of the story can’t just be over) and that killing her father just fucked her up kinda made me feel ashamed for feeling so proud of her when she did kill Saran in CBB. Like, it was just such a powerful moment, and I think too many (simple “good vs evil”) stories fall prey to poor and simplistic messages like “killing in self-defense is evil and makes the good people as bad as the villains”. But it’s just been weighing on Amari this whole time and fucking her up, and now I feel bad. =(

Speaking of Amari feeling bad, though: Ramaya. The connector Amari beat for connector elder.

I hope either Inan was taken with everybody else or Amari will connect with him via their connector-sibling connection. It seems incredibly likely that Ramaya is stuck in her dreamscape similarly to how Inan was stuck in his before Zélie somehow entered it and woke him. Considering they were constantly saying Ramaya was their best soldier, it seems like it would also come in handy to wake Ramaya and be able to utilize her skills to help rescue the kidnapped crew. Like, this HAS to come up at some point, doesn’t it? She can’t just be forgotten in a coma. Did anybody stay behind to take care of her when they marched on the capitol? D|

Other relationships!

Fuck, I fell so hard for Roën in this book. He’s just so endearing. And it seems like it was really only Roën that was able to keep Zélie grounded and moving forward in this book. I didn’t really support Roën and Zélie getting together in book 1, but book 2 absolutely made me support the ship.

However, I think Roën’s actions at the end of the book are a very good insight into the types of things that Roën is capable of. I don’t know if this is endgame for Tomi, but after Zélie’s constant struggle of just wanting to leave and be free and start over in this book and how her rage towards Inan consumed her and caused her to make some short-sighted mistakes (promising she’d protect Mazeli at the temple, then Ojore almost killing him while she tussled with Inan), I just don’t know that this is a particularly healthy relationship. The bit where Roën takes her out to see and they get a ride from a whale? Absolutely adorable. Just what Zélie (and I suspect Roën) needed. But long-term? I have a feeling that Roën is going to have to let more of that mercenary self of his out, and it’s going to scare and wear on Zélie, and erode their relationship. I think this is one of those relationships that is good in the short-term but isn’t long-term sustainable.

Speaking of long-term - I know Tzain is absolutely done with Amari right now, but I think he’s overall shown a great capacity for forgiveness, and I do think Tzain and Amari are endgame for Tomi. I don’t think this break between them is permanent. 

But you know who we really need to talk about?

MAMA AGBA

What a heartbreaking arc. You know she had to sever the tie between Mazeli and Zélie to save Zélie’s life. I so wish she had gotten more time with Zélie for them to reform their trust and love for one another. I absolutely wouldn’t have been able to survive the maji elders sacrificing Amari to complete the linking ritual, but I can’t believe they really did sacrifice Mama Agba like that. She was really the only guidance these poor kids had. I can’t believe they really sacrificed her.

RIP Mama Agba. I hope you’re helping to look after Mazeli. 3

Now, for that damn epilogue.

I don’t know if I can take the next book. I don’t know how Tomi’s gonna make it through the next book.

Getting gassed and waking up on an eerie ship with the other elders? Anybody else get the feeling that Tomi is going to dive into a trans atlantic slave trade parallel? I hope I’m just being paranoid here (hey, the book seriously played with my emotions; I have no idea where I’m at anymore). What were y’alls takeaways from that part?

Predictions!

- Harum obviously has something to do with all the elders being taken and them being on a boat now, right? Tomi was totally setting him up as an antagonist and he got very little antag action in this book. He’s got to have something to do with this.

- This was always intended to be a trilogy, but I have to wonder if this isn’t going to end up turning into a couple more books than intended. There was so much to go over in book 2 and then the twist of an epilogue. They’re not even getting to rebuild yet. It just feels like Tomi has so much more planned it can’t possibly be wrapped up in just one more book.

- I feel like something’s gotta happen to sever or dampen the connection the elders (and Roën and Tzain) have with each other. After how powerful they were in the end, Tomi’s gotta counter that somehow. I just don’t know if she’s gonna dampen the powers or pull out an even BIGGER bad than Nehanda was.

- Obviously “Children of Gods” has to do with the title of book 3. If it’s not just Children of Gods, I predict: Children of Gods and Ghosts.

Ending Thoughts

CVV was well worth the wait and lived up to the hype, but if we don’t get some hope and optimism in the next book, I don’t know what I’m going to do. I need these poor kids to get some semblance of a happy ending. They’ve been through so much.

somehow this very simple ask which could have been answered in like three sentences turned into my definitive ranking of the top ten Known Dads in BnHA. I’m not sure how either. but here we go

I know I already said it, but it really can’t be stressed enough, this guy routinely disassembled her limbs on a molecular level, causing her excruciating pain and trauma, for the sake of trying to make himself the new drug-dealing kingpin of the underworld. he is sooo bad you guys

9. All for One

dad score - 11/100

is super creepy and manipulative and purposely brainwashed Tomura into hating All Might through a series of meticulously calculated encounters

decided the best way to help Tomura reach his full potential would be to step out of his life and get himself arrested

hasn’t even seen his other son, Izuku, since he was a baby! what a fucking deadbeat smdh

but on the other hand, he does seem supportive and indulgent towards Tomura and gives him lots of praise and encouragement

8. Endeavor

dad score - 39/100

abused his kid

abused his kid’s mom, in front of his kid

you wouldn’t even know it, but he actually has other kids, whom he never seems to acknowledge or pay even the slightest attention to whatsoever!

only had kids in the first place so he could raise his kids to beat All Might. has no problem telling this to said kids and even to All Might’s own face

having said that, the only reason his score isn’t in the negatives is because as of chapter 165, it seems like maybe? possibly? he just might be trying for the first time ever. or like. trying to try. if you can count showing up to Shouto’s supplemental course to shout “SHOOOOOOOOOOUUUUTOOOOOOOOO” at him from the stands as trying. but like, I feel like he is attempting to be encouraging. it doesn’t mean he’s not still a piece of shit, but if the guy is trying to be better then, like, it’s better than him not trying, you know?

but he’s still terrible

7. Kurogiri

dad score - 60/100

Tomura’s Actual Dad

is calm, rational, polite, and a respected doctor of medicine (probably) (idk you guys I just still get that vibe)

took Tomura and all the other kids on a character-building trip to Villain Island in an omake from chapter 149 which I consider to be canon

there’s nothing more dadlike than taking your kids camping and trying to teach them how to survive in the wilderness

taught Tomura how to get along with others

always seems to have his back, which is real important you guys

6. Gran Torino

dad score - 70/100

not the best score but a C is still respectable. mostly it’s just cuz he was out of the picture for so long. although we’ve since found out that Toshinori by his own admission had a habit of pushing away people who cared about him, so that may have had something to do with it

cares a lot about Toshinori even though he’s shit at showing it

made him into a man by beating the shit out of him until he got super strong

was right there in the thick of things with Toshinori during both of his fights against All for One. he straight up risked his life to back him up against the strongest villain alive

took it in stride when he found out he had a grandson that he’d never met, and took him under his wing as well and raised him for like three whole days and taught him how to use a microwave

5. Ochako’s Dad

dad score - 80/100

I probably should have given him a higher score, honestly. he seems really sweet. he’s probably a better dad than Bakugou’s Dad tbh, but Bakudad gets the edge just for the much steeper difficulty level. because let’s be honest, there’s a biiiig difference between raising a sweet baby angel like young Ochako, and raising a sentient roman candle with a potty mouth

but he works so hard to make ends meet, and somehow he and his wife managed to scrimp and save enough to send Ochako to U.A. because they wanted her to follow her dreams and they want the best for her

and they’ve always been so supportive of her on like the three occasions we’ve seen them in flashbacks or talking to her over the phone or visiting her after the sports festival

look at this thumbs up though

tell me that’s not the most dad thing you’ve ever seen in your fucking life

4. Bakugou’s Dad

dad score - 82/100

has like two lines in the entire series, but

as previously mentioned, raised Bakugou Katsuki and somehow survived to tell the tale. so honestly he probably deserves some kind of medal

also, since we know virtually nothing about him other than what was in the omake profile from volume 11, I’ve been imagining him as being kind of like Calvin’s Dad from Calvin and Hobbes

so he gets bonus points for that positive association

really there’s no reason for him to be this high up tbh except that I firmly believe he’s a great dad and I’m just waiting for canon to prove me right. I’ll be right here waiting, manga

3. RockLockRock

dad score - 90/100

he’s awesome

also, look. being a hero is inherently dangerous. you never know where you’re going to get called to next, and any mission could end up being your last. injuries and trauma go hand-in-hand with the job. most of the hero characters we’ve seen don’t have families, and I have to assume that’s not a coincidence. so to me, all of this means that if a hero character actually does go through with starting a family, it means they wanted that family more than anything, and you can bet they freaking love the shit out of said family. I have no doubt that RLR is and will continue to be an amazing dad

plus his kid is just too damn cute

2. Aizawa

dad score - 95/100

first of all, if this was a ranking of Hottest BnHA Dads, you better believe he’d be at the very top and it would be no contest

he has 20 kids and somehow he’s able to handle each and every one of them

risked his life to save the kids barely two weeks into the school year with no hesitation, even though he nearly died

did the same thing again barely two months later. this time thankfully without the nearly dying

has the total respect and trust of each and every kid in his class. and considering the personalities of some of them, that’s no small feat

specifically, it says a lot that even Bakugou doesn’t give him any lip and always listens to him without complaint and is even polite

speaking of Bakugou, he defended him to that Jerk Reporter during the Hideout Raid arc and proved that he understands his students better than anyone

isn’t afraid to deal out strict discipline when the situation calls for it, but it’s always for the students’ own good

isn’t above trolling the shit out of his kids on occasion when he feels like it

is good with kids of all ages and not just teenagers, as evidenced by how good he also was with Kouta during the forest invasion arc

lastly, as we saw in chapter 136, he has an untold repertoire of secret dad moves just waiting to be unleashed, such as (a) crouching down to a seated Deku’s eye level, and (b) gently punching him in the chest while affectionately calling him by a nickname. who knows what other moves this man has in reserve. I for one can’t wait to see more

1. All Might

dad score - 96/100

indisputable best dad. A+. although even he didn’t get a perfect score, because nobody is perfect and there’s always room for improvement

always knows exactly what to say. despite constantly seeming to stress about it. probably he only stresses because he cares so much and he’s worried about doing things exactly right

loving father to the two most difficult children in the whole series, Midoriya “which bones did you break this time” Izuku, and Bakugou “like I said, anyone who even attempts to parent this child automatically deserves a medal” Katsuki

this man literally got down on his hands and knees and begged Deku’s mom to let him try to be the Best Dad Ever to her child. he loves him so fucking much

wonder why we've deemed mountain bad? cuz at least 60% of them, "kyman queen" included, support, romanticize, enable, & even fetishize cartman's abuse! yeah, being actively antisemitic, even casually, while in a relationship with a jewish person is abuse!

the stance of most tie-pines, at least the ones in my friends & mutuals circle, is that cartman needs to unlearn his antisemitism to be able to be in a healthy relationship with kyle, and to, hell, deserve him in the first place. that's our view on that.

I’ve been baffled by this for a couple of days...

Ok...

Someone, presumably a Black person, on Twitter (presumably, because I’m not trying to research this person, they could be legit or a Russian Troll, it doesn’t really matter.) Made a Tweet that said something to the effect of (heavily paraphrased) ‘Senator Kamala Harris is not “Black” Her father is Jamaican, her mother is Indian and I am tired of all these non-blacks coming in here and stealing the spotlight’ (again, this was paraphrased but this was the sentiment)

One of Donald Trump’s adult children (I think it was Donald Jr.) basically re-tweeted the above paraphrased Tweet and commented ‘Is this True?’ I presume there was an immediate backlash because he deleted this Tweet fairly quickly and the Trump camp spin doctors were quick to release a statement to effect of ‘Donald Jr. was just asking for clarification because he didn’t know about her parentage. He was absolutely not being Racist’

MSNBC (this is the channel that is on at my job so I’m kind of forced to listen to it all day) has been jumping on this deleted tweet at pretty much every opportunity. “Birtherism 2.0″ they call it with relish. ‘The Trumps are attacking Kamala Harris just as they attacked Barack Obama. It’s despicable’ Repeatedly all day long.

Anyway, at this point I’m feeling pretty patronized by MSNBC (not that I was a fan to begin with) but hearing them harp on this deleted tweet is feeling increasingly disingenuous. At this point MSNBC has done more to shit-stir than the initial Tweet or the Deleted Re-Tweet ever did. But MSNBC is gonna do what they do and I don’t expect better from them.

However, there is something about the Deleted Re-tweet that is bothering me. I’m not trying to defend Donald Jr. here, His daddy is racist, he is racist, America is racist, the sky is blue, whatever. But like... who was the intended audience of his dog whistle?

If the Initial Tweet was from a fake account, a Troll, a Russian Plant than the obvious cause was to sow dissension in the Black community *snort*. “She’s not like ‘us’ you can’t trust ‘them’” (I’ll circle back around this this in a moment)

But maybe  was legitimate. If it really was from a actual Black American maybe they do have a gripe. Maybe this person had their “Black Wake Up Call”, maybe they’re embroiled in the struggle. There is no falseness to the facts Senator Kamala Harris’ Father is Jamaican and her Mother is Indian, she admits this, it’s not a secret. But, at the same time, Black Diaspora is wide and varied. Maybe Senator Harris isn’t A Descendant of America Chattel Slavery but she is “Black,” not that it particularly matters.

(Here we are back at the beginning of the circle) Black people aren’t a monolith. We are not out here voting for people just cuz they’re “Black” Well, some are and some are voting for Donald Trump, everybody can’t be saved. Not all Skin-Folk are Kin-Folk and damn that is a maxim we know well. As far as I know, even with his massive slide in the polls since the debate, Joe Biden still has the majority share of the “black vote”  And he is DEFINITELY not Black.

What I’m trying to say is whether the Initial Tweet was real or was fake it was but a drop in the bucket; it’s purpose was not questionable to me, it makes sense either way.

The Delete Re-Tweet from Donald Jr., on the other hand, makes... no sense to me. Who was the intended audience? I mean... unless he really was asking for clarification... lol but naw. I’m not attributing anything so innocent, the re-Tweet was definitely for the purpose of shit-stirring... but aimed at who? I mean I can’t  imagine he was aiming the Black Community... unless the sole purpose was to get dragged by Black Twitter which would probably be the only way to get any significant number of black people to see it... unless MSNBC decided to make an issue about it every hour, daily, for 3+ days on-going. (See this is the exact shit I’m talk about re: MSNBC, they are out here doing this asshole’s work for him. SMDH)

But, here’s the thing who is actually following Donald Trump Jr. on Twitter? I’d imagine it’s republicans, capitalist... other people I try very hard not to associate with.

Anyway, the thing about Racist... you know anti-black Racist I’m speaking of, the further away you are from “Blackness” the more acceptable you are to them. So by pointing out Senator Kamala Harris is not “Really Black”... not “Truely Black” you would just be making her more acceptable to White America... which might be why the Tweet was deleted in the first place.
