The roots of civilization supposedly lie in the transition from hunters and gatherers to farming life. But research shows the farming life wasn’t as easy as the nomadic lifestyle. So why the change? This researcher believes we need to look elsewhere to find the real roots of civilization.

A Glance Back, a Look Ahead, and a Healing Inner Child Tarot Spread
How curious it is that time on a blog can freeze, can pass yet not pass. Just shy of two years have passed since my last post, which was itself a revival after a long hiatus. Every new start representing a new intention. But I will say that 11 months of live-in home renovation while also working and trying to maintain some kind of social life left me with very little in the creative tank. Then,…

I was watching a video about Family of Nomads, and I'd like to just put this out there,
My mom has a friend who does (did? Not sure) van life before it was trendy.
And let me tell you.
Their children were all very young when I last saw them, the oldest being eight with two younger siblings separated by maybe 3 years each? Not sure about the age gap, but one was eight, one was somewhere in the middle, and one was a young toddler. This was about 4 or 5 years ago though, so I'm not sure how or what they're doing now.
They visited us, once, and those kids were kind of messed up. Nothing really wrong with them, but the eldest was obsessed with Instagram already and clearly had not been given any lessons in internet safety.
Not to mention, all three kids shared one phone. Which, while there's nothing wrong with this, especially at that age, it was kind of scary to see such young children having all-access to social media and whatever they want on this phone while clearly not having had any sort of lessons about how to be safe on the internet. Especially when I, as a(n about) 13-year-old, didn't have any access to any social media. It felt weird.
There were a few other things that stood out. The kids demanded privacy in the bathroom, in a house where they were the guests and there was only three bathrooms total, to film a video opening a slime package they had sent to our house. I learned after they left that the eldest had already drunk a whole glass of some sort of water-looking alcohol.
The standing on the chair to take Instagram pics meme? That was the eldest whenever we went out to eat.
And probably the most heartbreaking was the youngest screaming and crying about not wanting to leave THE HOUSE. Not us, not the toys, not the dogs, the house. The physical building. All the kids were getting upset about leaving the house. My mom herself explained that it was probably because they missed having bedrooms and being in one place.
I never went into their RV. So, I don't actually know what the setup was. But I saw it, and that bitch wasn't big enough to have three young kids and two adults in full-time.
Even back then I was really concerned and weirded out by these kids. I felt so bad for them. Sometimes I wonder how they're doing and where they are now, but then I also think that I don't really want to know in case they're doing worse.

Gypsy
She has a gypsy soul as well as the same in her blood she is the granddaughter of gypsies shunned in long since past. Also a daughter of a family of bohemians and artists. Art and poetry run through her blood and she wishes to have the most nomadic lifestyle with her man who will soon save her from that system. And she will become the greatest artist and poet even if it may not sell she will never give up.

People Seem To Hate Us
TW: mentions of SI, mental health
At my lowest during this whole "van life" / digital nomad process, I broke down and cried and told my husband: "I don't think I can do this. For the first time, I truly feel homeless. I'm so sorry I did this to us."
It's been stressful to commit to van living. It's a pretty complicated process and there's very few resources when you need to live in/near a city.
People don't understand why someone would want to be a digital nomad. People don't understand why someone would want or need to live in a van, or why someone would struggle to pay rent or "get a better job". We're unsightly with our strange ways and our beggar's needs. We are completely unwanted by the mainstream community.
For months I've had this weird feeling that something big was coming -- Like how animals can feel a storm brewing in the distance. The anxiety and stress in the air from all around me felt so real, and I knew that while we had a lot of personal changes coming, some massive changes were likely coming everywhere.
Well, if you know anything about the state of things, you know that intuition was spot-on (and honestly, it should be obvious anyway because these issues have been stirring around for a long, long time).
So I'm sure while some people would not find it surprising at all that van living has become our main option, there are still those who are just baffled by our decisions and our struggles. Admittedly, it's mostly older people around us and family members. They're quick to point out that something is strange or uncomfortable for them to consider, but very slow to do anything helpful or offer a solution instead of a critique.
It's been frustrating. It's hard to get a good job that isn't a toxic-ass place to be and actually pays; it's hard to find a good place to live that isn't over $1000 a month at this point. Groceries are difficult to keep in a van and expensive as hell.
But when you bring these things up to people who have all of their needs met (and have for most of their life thus far ((older gens))), their attitude is "Well then just fix it or shut up". It's like they want you to either conform or go die somewhere and leave them alone.
All that said, I have zero intention of letting that tear me down. It's been very hard, but I just want to live and do so on my own terms.
I feel so sorry for people younger than myself. They are entering a very difficult world that is hell-bent on gaslighting them into believing it's their own fault. It isn't. It really is hard. The "American Dream" is a pay-to-play experience where the starting subscription has increased exponentially, and the people at the top are unwilling to stop their tyrannical hold on the world.
