Edward Hopper, City Roofs, 1932. Oil on canvas.
It shows the view from the roof of the Greenwich Village building where Hopper lived. In 1935, when a New York Post reporter asked Hopper what he did for fun, he replied: “I get most of my pleasure out of the city itself.”

Above is Hock E Aye Vi Edgar Heap of Birds’s work Surviving Active Shooter Custer, 48 monoprints, 2018, from the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, on view in 2021.
From the museum about the work-
The term “active shooter” is one we hear too often in today’s news. Here, Heap of Birds uses this contemporary phrase to characterize massacres committed by United States troops against Native Americans in the 1800s. Each of this work’s panels contains six lines of text evoking the violence of not only this country’s history but ongoing acts of oppression against Indigenous communities. The prints on the right are “ghost prints” of those on the left, made by using the residual ink remaining on the printing plate after the first print was produced. For the artist, these prints recall the “ghosts of a whole culture.”
In the video below from the museum, the artist discusses the work with two of MoMa’s curators.

so… I had actually started a series of cosmic horror/apocalyptic nyc postcards I’ve been thinking about awhile just before all this wildfire mess happened. Just my luck it would become so relevant

As I was walking in Penn Station in Manhattan NYC I stumbled upon this dope art exhibit outside of the Moleskin store.
The exhibit had the question “Can Creativity change the world?” On all sides. Inside the glass were several journals which contained art by various artists along with their accompanying stories.
Originally I was on my way to some work but Because I am a big journal 📓 person myself, and because the art caught by eye, I just had to stop and let it inspire me. I want to share some of my favorite pieces with you…

Empathy Machine, 2022
One of the greatest human inventions of all time was written language and with books we are able to communicate complex ideas and feelings. Now that we have video games we can place someone inside another person and they can live out their experiences. As we create more complex and visceral ways to feel empathy for other humans, we will grow closer together and find ways to overcome any obstacle in our way.

Hey everyone! I never posted my art on tumblr before and idk why I haven’t so here’s my attempt.
My name is Fransheska and I’m based in NYC. I’ve been focusing a lot on more natural elements as of lately, but I do a lot of patterns and pathways overall. My art is meant to capture controlled anxiety and fears, to remind us it’s ok to be scared and to feel these scary feelings and ideas out. I’ve been incorporating more natural elements such as the human anatomy and animals you see in nature.
I really hope you guys like it and can see more of my art on my instagram @ y.Fransheska
