Welcome to my blog!
I have just completed my A Level exams, and decided to make this page to post my OCR Religious Studies notes and A* essays.
Most of my notes were made from the textbook, so they will be very similar, although I tried to put in some extra reading where I could.
Essays were marked by teachers who also mark for the OCR exam board.

MSNBC: New College of Florida under federal civil rights investigation
A small liberal arts school that Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has sought to transform into a bastion of right-wing thought is now facing a federal civil rights probe.
And conservatives in the state are up in arms.
The Republican governor hasn’t hidden his desire to transform New College of Florida into a place hostile to inclusive learning plans that address social inequality. In January, he appointed a bunch of conservatives to the public college’s board of trustees, and he has said he wants the Sarasota school to be a “little Hillsdale” — a reference to Hillsdale College, a Midwestern school known for right-wing indoctrination.
The new board wasted no time in ousting the school’s president, closing down its diversity, equity and inclusion office and moving to abolish the gender studies major.
There has been an exodus of students from New College, which has traditionally been welcoming to LGBTQ students in particular, and the school has seen more than a third of its faculty leave.
There has been an exodus of students from New College, which has traditionally been welcoming to LGBTQ students in particular, and the school has seen more than a third of its faculty leave.
New College is now facing federal scrutiny. In a letter Friday, the U.S. Education Department said its Office for Civil Rights is investigating allegations that the school has discriminated against people with disabilities.
That makes two civil rights complaints filed against the school recently, according to the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. The newspaper reported that the disability discrimination complaint was filed Aug. 24, two days after the Education Department received a complaint alleging that New College leaders had created a hostile and discriminatory environment for LGBTQ students, ethnic minorities and students of religious minorities.
The newspaper said the federal department has not responded to questions about whether it is also investigating the earlier complaint. In a statement provided to the outlet, a spokesperson for New College appeared to criticize the LGBTQ-related complaint and said both complaints are “without merit”:
We are aware of the anonymous complaint that was purportedly sent to the U.S. Department of Education and U.S. Department of Justice, a complaint that was first sent to the media and was never sent to the college. The anonymous complaint details many false claims meant to grab headlines, and it is important to note that the only claim that is being looked into is the disability compliance claim, of which we are confident the DOE will also find to be without merit.
A document published by The Daily Caller, a conservative outlet, appears to include the LGBTQ-related complaint. The document has not been independently verified by MSNBC or NBC News.
The purported complaint includes claims that New College officials replaced gender-neutral bathroom signs with signs that don’t comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, and that school officials — including right-wing activist Christopher Rufo, who’s on the board of trustees — have insulted students, parents and faculty by labeling them mentally ill and deliberately misusing pronouns.
Rufo and DeSantis, in particular, are incensed over the federal probe. Rufo even called for the Education Department to be abolished.
And DeSantis appeared on Fox News on Monday, claiming the Biden administration is “basically saying that there’s a civil right to have things like gender studies and pronouns in our colleges and universities.”
The Biden administration has said no such thing. In fact, the Education Department’s letter to New College says “opening an allegation for investigation in no way implies that OCR has made a determination with regard to its merits.”
But the mere fact of being under review was clearly enough to roil DeSantis and company. They apparently don’t want anyone meddling with their efforts to meddle with Florida’s education system.

In addition to the city safe in Seoul, Woori Bank has been in charge of the first safe in Busan City Hall for 64 years, from 1936 to 2000. The reason is that Busan Bank did not entrust the first safe because it judged that it had insufficient financial power. It is similar to the case in which Korea First Bank was in charge of plating warehouses in Jeollabuk-do before the implementation of the local self-government system. In the days of the Korea Commercial Bank, he also built the OCR computer for Busan City Hall. Since 2001, when it was Hanbit Bank, Busan Bank was selected as the first safe by the Busan Metropolitan City Hall, and it continues to this day.
Perhaps it is because we have been dealing with major universities since the time of Hanil Bank, according to the website of Woori Bank, Seoul National University[25], Pohang University of Science and Technology[26], Yonsei University, Sogang University, Sungkyunkwan University, Hankuk University of Foreign Studies, University of Seoul, Dankook University It has the largest number of stores in domestic universities,[27] and is said to make student IDs for 54 universities (including academically recognized schools, junior colleges, and special universities such as KAIST and GIST, calculated separately for branch schools).[28]
Beginning in 2019, Seoul National University terminated its partnership with Nonghyup and partnered with Woori Bank, so the S Card combination check card previously issued as a Seoul National University student ID can be issued through the Wibi Bank application. Existing S Card Nonghyup check card users can use it as it is, but when it is reissued, it will be issued with our check card.[29]
Since the days of the Commercial Bank of Korea, it has a close relationship with Korean Catholics, centered on the Catholic Archdiocese of Seoul. There are branch offices of Woori Bank in Catholic University and Sogang University, and most parishes and churches manage their finances through Woori Bank, except for individual credit unions closely related to the Catholic Church. It contributes funds for the Catholic Literature Prize or supports the 'National Integrated Yang-Ing System', a system for managing Catholics' religious records. Thanks to this, Woori Bank also issued bankbooks for student affairs, and allocated Telecode 221 for Myeongdong Cathedral donation transfers and 222 for Catholic church donation transfers. However, if the church office tells you not to use it, you have to take your school affairs bankbook and pay the school affairs at the office. Therefore, the Catholic Hall branch in Myeongdong Cathedral is also an important branch, and in principle, only Catholics are issued at that branch. Our card also has "Our Cathedral Check Card".
Woori Bank is also closely related to railroads, and Korea Railroad Corporation, which was established as a public corporation from the late days of the National Railroad Administration, is also a major transaction with Woori Bank. The main bank of the National Railroad Authority, next door to the Korea Railroad Corporation, is Woori Bank, and a separate Woori Bank National Railroad Authority branch exists on the first floor of the headquarters of the National Railroad Corporation. Seoul Transportation Corporation's main bank was also Woori Bank, but in 2019, KB Kookmin Bank lost the Seoul Transportation Corporation safe. Article Woori Bank has a close relationship with the Korean railroad to the extent that Seoul Metro and Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation prior to the integration of Seoul Metro and Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation were also Woori Bank. In particular, the National Railroad Authority is in charge of the railroad construction ordering body and the management of state-owned railroad properties, so it is also a big customer of Woori Bank, which transfers tens of trillions of money. Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), a much larger construction ordering body than the National Railroad Corporation, utilizes all four major commercial banks, KB Kookmin Bank, Woori Bank, Hana Bank, and Shinhan Bank, to distribute the amount, whereas the National Railroad Corporation With about 60% of the LH order volume, the trading bank is unified with Woori Bank.
In the era before KTX, it was Choheung Bank, but in November 2003, Woori Bank and the National Railroad Administration signed a major transaction contract, and at the same time as the opening of KTX, all railway ticket vending machines of Choheung Bank disappeared. There is a branch in the railway tower next to Daejeon Station.[30] In response, some branches of Woori Bank issued passenger train tickets, but they have now disappeared. If you go to Seoul Station, you will see a lot of things related to Woori Bank around you, including Korea Railroad Corporation Seoul Station.[31] For reference, the Seoul Station branch at the West Exit of Seoul Station has existed regardless of the main transaction of Korea Railroad Corporation since the days of Korea Commercial Bank.
Other special branches include the Ministry of National Defense branch office [32], the airport finance center [33], the Defense Science Research Institute branch office, the Financial Supervisory Service branch [34], the Armed Forces Financial Management Agency branch office, and the National Pension Service Financial Center [35].
The Korea Student Aid Foundation also seems to have a main transaction with Woori Bank, and as it moved its headquarters to Shinam 2-dong, Dong-gu, Daegu, it opened a new branch office of the Korea Student Aid Foundation on the first floor of its office building in Sinam 2-dong. However, in just one year, the branch office of the Korea Student Aid Foundation was closed and merged with the Sinam-dong branch at the entrance of Dongyang Mansion across from Pyeonghwa Market.

I'm starting up this account to keep me motivated to continue to persue my education to a further level than I'm currently at, hopefully in a few years I'll be studying medicine in my hometown university. I struggle with things like revising and doing homeworks because I lose motivation easily and procrastinate a lot (I'm distracting myself right now by making this blog). Ideally I'll be posting updates about my education and revision as often as I can.
Subjects I study:
GCSE English Literature (CCEA)
GCSE English Language (CCEA)
GCSE Further Mathematics (CCEA)
GCSE LLW (CCEA)
GCSE Religious Studies (CCEA)
GCSE Design and Technology (CCEA)
GCSE French (CCEA)
GCSE Computer Science (OCR)
GCSE Double Award (CCEA)
Subjects I'll be studying in September 2020:
A-Level Biology (CCEA)

introduction and my courses!
Hey! I'm Reuben (r00b) and this is gonna be my introductory post on this studyblr.  I'm in Year 12, two terms into my A-Levels and not sure if I love it or hate it, but I'm hoping that this blog will help motivate me in my studies. I’ve been really inspired by the studyblr community and how encouraging and welcoming it seems to be, and would love to talk with others on here :)
Current A-Level Courses:
History - Oxford AQA
GCSE Grade: 9
A-Level Target Grade: A/A*
Breadth Study: Tudor England
Depth Study: Russia 1917-1953
Currently achieving Bs in essays and practice exam questions; my goal is to increase to an A by the end of Year 12! History is definitely the subject I'm finding the most challenging at the moment, as there is just so much content and I find myself not dedicating enough time to going over notes so my knowledge doesn't always feel secure but I'm slowly working to change that.
Religious Studies: Philosophy and Ethics - Oxford OCR
GCSE RE Grade: A (summer 2017)
A-Level Target Grade: A*
This is my absolute favourite subject; I've just completed this year's Philosophy unit and will be moving on to Ethics in January, before spending the last two terms on Developments in Christian Thought. I'm definitely aiming for an A* in this, as I've managed to achieve that in my essays so far this year - sometimes I need to spend less time on Philosophy and prioritise my other subjects, so finding that balance will be my aim for the rest of the year.
Fine Art - OCR
GCSE Grade: 8
A-Level Target Grade: A
I probably won't have such a focus on Art on this blog, although it may be useful for documenting how much time I'm spending outside of lessons adding to my project. I'm currently working at a B, hoping to push it up to an A by the end of Year 12, and aiming for A/A* as my final grade, but time will tell.
School starts again 3rd January (scandalous), so I'm trying to squeeze in a final few days of catching up and revision before the onslaught begins again. I'm looking at you, A-Level History.
Peace and love!

Feeling Worse, Feeling Better
I’ve kinda forgotten to post on here with all the revision and exam stress piling up, but here’s a nice update for anyone that’s interested.
The GCSEs are in 2 months. On the dot. In two months’ time I’ll be in an exam hall, and that’ll be my life for the following month after. And after that? I’m free. Hopefully they’ll go as well as my mocks, so I can have a fun, relaxed summer.
How do I cope with all this? Well, thanks to the advanced information given to us about the exams, I’ve been able to make a good list of what I know and don’t know for the sciences and religious studies, so revision for those is fairly easy. For maths? I’ll never understand those who genuinely sit down and revise it, instead of just doing practice. I mean, to each their own, but it feels like a waste of time to go over the quadratic formula or factorisation when you can just practice.
Now, the biggies for me are the essay subjects, plus French. Latin is no longer a GCSE since OCR absolutely butchered the spec and it might as well now be a primary school SAT. For French, I’m mainly revising speaking, since that’s where the stress peaks, and it also helps with basically every other aspect of the GCSE. And English? I just write essays. Nothing special there.
All that aside, I’ve been quite ill lately- tried going into school so that I could at least get some tests done for practice and ended up feeling worse, and now I feel very lazy, even though I’m ill and have a valid reason for my absence.
I’m also considering making some YT videos on stuff I find interesting - something 3blue1brown-esque.
Kind of a long post, so I’ll do a TL;DR:
Tests stressful, but we coping. Revision going well. I’m ill. Read the post bozo.
Here’s a funky photo:

What Are The Changes To Title IX?
By Jordan Wappler, Fordham University Class of 2022
May 29, 2020
Tumblr media
From the Women’s March to the #MeToo movement, issues related to sexual assault have been given unprecedented attention in recent times. Now, changes to the landmark Title IX legislation are likely to keep questions surrounding campus assaults in the public eye. Key issues in the updated regulations include the responsibilities educators have in maintaining campus safety as well as the rights of both accusers and the accused and the process by which complaints are resolved.
In the Education Amendments of 1972, Title IX declares that “No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance” (knowyourtitleix). Title IX forbids sex discrimination in educational institutions that receive federal funding and is enforced by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights. In its infancy, Title IX was predominantly associated with increasing women’s sports teams and female college enrollment numbers. However, Title IX has expanded to reach into areas of sexual harassment and sexual violence. These situations of sexual misconduct can impact one’s ability to participate and benefit from the education in question. Hence, sexual harassment is a form of discrimination in the eyes of the law in regard to Title IX. According to the results of the Bureau of Justice Statistic’s Campus Climate Survey Validation Study Final Technical Report, nearly one in four female students will be sexually assaulted during their undergraduate education (bjs).
In 2011, the Obama administration broadened Title IX to necessitate that institutions of higher education take quick action to eliminate and prevent sexual harassment including sexual violence (thecollegepost). Under Obama’s version of Title IX and his “Dear Colleague Letter,” administratorswere directed to allow students to contact law enforcement, to apprise students of their option to file a claim to the university and/or local law enforcement, and to conduct investigations using the preponderance of evidence standard, meaning the alleged incident was more likely than not to have happened. Failure to follow Title IX is not taken lightly. The Office of Civil Rights can revoke federal funding from nonconforming institutions and even involve the Department of Justice (thecollegepost). While Obama’s guidance was welcomed by many women’s rights and sexual assault victim advocates, the directive was met resistance by some. Those who were opposed felt that the guidance incited overenforcement of campus sexual misconduct policy, false accusations and unjust punishment (insidehighered). Following Obama’s recommendations, there were many civil lawsuits filed, mostly by male college students that had been accused of sexual misconduct (insidehighered).
While the main clause of Title IX remains unaffected under President Trump, Betsy DeVos has recently changed some of the specifics of the regulations. These changes have the potential to greatly impact complainants (those filing a complaint of sexual misconduct) and respondents (those accused of committing sexual misconduct) in college. Devos stated that the goal of her proposed rule is to “ensure that Title IX grievance proceedings become more transparent, consistent, and reliable in their processes and outcomes” (thecollegepost).
The new rules give definitions of domestic abuse, stalking, and dating violence. The new rules also allow for greater exemption from Title IX for religiously affiliated schools. Most striking are the changes to the Title IX policy and procedures around sexual misconduct cases. These changes are seen by some as an enormous setback in policy and civil rights for survivors. Most notable is that schools can now dismiss reports of sexual misconduct that do not occur on campus. This means that sexual misconduct that happens in off-campus housing, study abroad or non-campus-controlled buildings is not the responsibility of educators. With around 84% of college students living off campus and sexual assault rates estimated to be five times higher in study abroad situations, this change may have a significant impact (knowyourix). However, it is important to note that institutions may continue to have obligation to act in off-campus incidents if the incident were to occur in a building or other location that the school controls or patrols such as off-campus school-owned fraternity or sorority houses (pbs).
An additional key change is in the standard of evidence. Under Obama Title IX, schools were recommended to use the preponderance of evidence standard. However, with Devos’s policy, schools can choose between that standard or the “clear and convincing” standard (Washington Post), which is a much higher bar of evidence.
Not only are there changes to the definitions and rules regarding the incidents for which an institution might be responsible, the Title IX process for resolving an individual allegation is itself evolving. Under the new rules, colleges are now required to permit cross-examination by a representative of each involved party (knowyourtitleix). This policy raises concern that it will increase the number of times survivors are forced to re-tell their experience and re-live the trauma. This might prevent victims from reporting, which is very concerning since “only 20% of female student victims age 18-24 report to law enforcement” (itsonus). However, this cross-examination mechanism can also be seen as a way to ensure respondents are not falsely accused and convicted. Devos appears to be particularly concerned about the rights of the accused, stating that the system has “failed the accused” (Devos, Washington Post). Other changes to the rules by Devos include not permitting students to file incidents against a respondent not at the complainant’s school, allowing unregulated mediation in cases, removing the former maximum investigation length limit, and narrowing the definition of sexual harassment (knowyourtitleix).
The US Department of Education states that these changes from Devos take “historic action” to “strengthen Title IX protection for survivors of sexual misconduct and to restore due process in campus proceedings to ensure all students can pursue an education free from sex discrimination” (ed.gov). According to Secretary Kenneth L. Marcus of the Office for Civil Rights, “the new Title IX regulation is a game-changer. It establishes that schools and colleges must take sexual harassment seriously, while also ensuring a fair process for everyone involved” (edu.gov).
Since their release, these changes have been controversial among college students and survivor activists. The Devos shift pushes Title IX processes to be more like that of a Department of Justice criminal investigation in some ways, but less in others. Under Obama, the specific policies were more of guidance, whereas the new changes by Devos have the “force of the law” (pbs, Erica Green). Since schools are now responsible for fewer cases, theoretically more cases might go to the police instead of the school itself, and trials conducted within the colleges will potentially be more thorough with cross-examinationmore akin to judicial proceedings. However, other aspects of the Title IX reform make procedures resemble the criminal justice process less now. Removing the maximum length limit for the investigation and hearing process within institutions could be a violation of the right to a speedy trial and have a chilling effect on complainants. Additionally, the increased ability for religious institutions to be exempt from Title IX can be considered unjust and a violation of religious equality as well as separation of state and church. Since the announcement of these Title IX changes, students, institutions and the public have unanswered questions. Are institutions responsible for regulating cases of sexual misconduct, or is that a job for criminal courts? Do these changes benefit respondents unproportionally to complainants? Will fewer victims now come forward? The next school year could be telling.
