So a tidbit about vampires in Kovaud. The most powerful and influential of them have flying castles. These castles are powered by blood magic and piloted using arcane harmonics. In order for a vampire to steer their castle they must vibrate the enchantments keeping it aloft in a certain manner. They commonly do so by blasting organ music which can be heard long before the castle is seen as it approaches.
So in essence some vampires have flying castles which move by playing an instrument.

Erik's requiem mass
(Leroux, chapter X)
I reckon it would have sounded something like this:
This is in fact the Toccata from Leon Boëllmann's Suite Gothique, composed in 1895. Played here by Marie-Claire Alain on the Cavaillé-Coll organ at the church of Saint-Sulpice in Paris. Do look up the whole movement on YouTube: the build-up is magnificent. I encountered by chance on a trip to Ely Cathedral (UK), and was immediately struck by the PotO vibe.

A great church is a singing work of art. If the music and singing are worthy, the beauty of the building will be enhanced.
- Timothy Dolan
Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. The cathedral’s stunning organ dates back to the 1730s. The organ somehow miraculously survived the great fire in 2019.

Tone Wheels of a Hammond Organ.
The Hammond Electric Organ generates sound by spinning these magnetic wheels, the verations in magnetic field are turned into sound by a pickup (the coils of wire below the wheels in this photo.)
the corect frequency's are established by the spacing of the notches on the wheel, and complicated gearing (not shown), because all the wheels are driven from the same motor. That motor is synchronized to the 60hz power line frequency.
Although it is reliable now, At times in the past the frequency of the power at a wall outlet could drift noticeably, and so many vintage recordings featuring a Hammond organ are not tuned to a440. A notable example is House of the Rising Sun by the Animals.

probably shouldn't perpetuate stereotypes but it's been raining here and I've been in the mood to listen to dark, minor key organ music that makes me think of old castles, cathedrals, and black and white horror movies. So far, I only have Bach and his German inspirations & some descendants

"Song of Storms" on an old ass organ. -- Bigsquatch
As I grew up without the classic video games, I didn't know that this song is from "Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time". It feels like a waltz that's well-suited for this instrument. Listening to the original track, they really do sound similar in tone, though the organ sounds a bit softer and more mellow.

So allegedly, Alastor owns and plays a Furby organ? Canonically?
Tumblr media
(I'm too lazy to copy and past the actual faces of the overlords he's defeated onto the Furbies. You'll just have to use your imagination.) Welp, that solves the mystery of what he does with the souls he eats/tears apart, but apparently can't kill. I want to imagine he spends his evenings singing and doing organ numbers. I grew up listening to Family Radio. It is a Christian radio station in the US that used to play old-timey-ish gospel hymns and quite a bit of organ music. I have no idea whether their lineup is the same. My ex-religious trauma arse likes not actually caring enough to investigate. One of their programs was Songs in the Night. It always opened with this segway:
youtube
I could envision Alastor just doing an otherwise calm number on chill evenings. Not to broadcast his kills. Just to relax. To the screams of his victims. Dang, just listening to this sorta music for the first time in decades is making my blood pressure drop. Does Hell even have weekends? Like, weekends require holy days and like...
I stole that first image from LOOK MUM NO COMPUTER's channel's video and edited it in Inkscape. Please don't tell the government. I owe them money. Original Furby Organ video:
