Leaving unsolicited bullet-listed novel-worthy critiques of what you don't like in a fanfiction is wildly inappropriate. Fanfiction is a gift you are receiving for free, created at great personal cost of time and heartache by the writer. A gift that can easily be taken away if needed.

I am not writing from Bloomsbury. I am writing from my couch after being physically destroyed by my job. WBITD may feel like an ACOTAR book (it is similar length and canon compliant) but it is not. It’s just a love letter to characters that aren’t mine. I am actually great with criticism, but a numbered, goodreads-esque negative dissection of your work as if it were a published novel is extremely shitty to read and completely unwelcome. I’ve been fortunate to have a huge / positive response to this fic to be pretty damn proud of her. But it doesn’t excuse inappropriate behavior.

There's a lot of people pointing at how the Israel-Palestine ceasefire has ended and fighting has resumed as some sort of "gotcha"

It took 6 weeks to broker this ceasefire (and hamas didn't even really keep to it, surprise surprise, they still kept firing rockets at Israel), 5 days is not much time to broker an extension and/or longer ceasefire

This is the real world people, a ceasefire doesn't just happen by declaring/calling for it, they take time and negotiations and dealings and compromises

And as long as hamas keeps Israeli citizens (and non Israeli citizens) hostage while firing rockets at them, Israel has no reason to keep a ceasefire with hamas

I don’t blame people for wanting a “permanent ceasefire”, because that’s the end goal for all of us. we all want peace, we all want safety, we all want freedom. the problem there, is that it’s not going to work for anyone as long as Hamas has control of gaza. they haven’t been able to have any elections since the early 00’s. that has nothing to do with Israel - Hamas is a terrorist dictatorship controlling gaza and all the people in it. there will be a permanent ceasefire once Hamas is gone, so why don’t we advocate for their surrender? why aren’t we calling on them to fucking stop? even people who claim to believe they’re a terrorist group have been pedaling the ceasefire idealism, and it’s not going to do anything for palestinians. no one is advocating for real change, just something that makes them all feel better, and everyone in the region is going to continue to suffer.

But Then What Happens?

Even with the pause in the war, the question still remains: what happens next? From everything I've read, the violence against Gazans will continue and may very well escalate. The pause is new, but the questions about the aftermath of this war are old: will Gazans be able to return home? What will happen if their homes have been destroyed? How many civilians must die before Hamas is obliterated? How will we know when that has happened? What will be done to rebuild Gaza? Will the war engulf the region before it ends? What will be done to engender a permanent peace solution?

It is the lack of answers to these questions--and so many more--that make fears of the total annihilation and ethnic cleansing of the Gaza Strip and its inhabitants as valid as ever and calls to end the war more urgent than ever.

We must keep advocating for peace.

Trying to handle some remote work crises and financial aid paperwork and government paperwork and packing to move while also dealing with both the overwhelming grief of mourning and the overwhelming anxiety of knowing I'm about to be thrown back into a week of 14 hour work days. Just. Feeling like i'm going to implode and I just want to lay down and stare at the ceiling for a while but I can't stop moving or things wont get done
