not to "um akshully..." with my first post on my shiny new blog (that is exactly what i am doing),
but ao3 (and initially tumblr to an extent) is, to its core, a "proship" website. the funny thing about this more recent distinction between pro/antis, the terminology itself and the discourse surrounding it is that it's simply rebranding and packaging topics of censorship within spaces that exist for self expression by and for fans/nerds/outcasts/what have you.
the principle of using a tagging and filtering system to AVOID broader censorship (that more often targets marginalized groups and limits freedom of expression) is a progressive one. censorship that is out of the hands of the community is not. this does NOT mean that everyone should simply subject themselves to content that makes them uncomfortable, or that people shouldn't be held responsible for, you know, basic human decency and respecting boundaries with one another...which is why tagging and filtering systems are set in place for us to have the ability at our disposal without altering the experience for others. what it DOES mean is we know that understanding that distinction between fantasy and reality is often integral to our experience in fandom.
we are not spokespeople. we are not and should not be held to a standard of wholesome, squeaky clean representation in our own free time and space we have simply to have fun and find like-minded people. this isn't the writing room for a bloody disney channel program trying to make The Gays palatable to pearl clutching parents, and frankly, when websites like tumblr, fanfiction sites etc are hit with the banhammer, things tend to only go downhill from there and lose creativity and engagement (including sfw creatives!). censorship has always and will always target those that don't fit the marketing bill, aka unsavory "fans/nerds/outcasts/what have you," whom are often - you guessed it - marginalized people that utilize fandom as an outlet.
whether people use fiction to draw inspiration for their art, process and recontextualize things in their lives (like traumatic events, introspection, humanitarian issues and so on), find community or simply have a good time, it is something that makes the human experience so fascinating. we have always and likely WILL always fantasize, dream and create (and share in those things).
to me, the fundamentals of an anti-harassment or proship stance is not that fiction has NO bearing on people or their experience, but that without the ability to make our own decisions and boundaries for ourselves, we are inhibited from learning, progressing and breaking the barriers of what confines us. this includes - but is not limited to - sexuality and sexual content.
sexuality. sex. infamously a natural form of expression/communication that has been weaponized and stolen from people in a sickeningly long game of "if we can't sell it or use it to manipulate and instill fear into you, then we don't talk about it at all." this game is effective in its continued tired controversy over whether or not people are allowed to discuss icky, gross sex in ways that can sometimes challenge our relationship with it and how we've been socialized to approach it. WHY open discussion about these things is healthy and helps set a precedence for being safe and mindful with it.
how does this tie in with proshipping? it's an alignment of values with censorship in this way. it's symbolic, really. we reclaim power for ourselves, making our queer coded villains and monsters something to play with than to shut us out. giving our little faves toxicity as a treat because we know how harmful it is to navigate a world without anyone to guide us through the steps or understand our own history/ies. or, you know, just be horny and silly online and find people who want to do the same.
anyone who claims they're pro/anti and makes it solely about what they deem okay to harass others with earns them my opinion that they're an asshole. anyone who simply does not want to engage with/discuss something that may or may not be considered problematic or controversial is simply a person. we all have lines we draw for ourselves. much like how someone playing d&d or video games doesn't spawn evil cultists or violent criminals, exploring sexual themes through fiction does not a predator make.
so, on that note - the end, lol. i hope this drabble of not entirely coherent figurative fist shaking at the sky serves you, or doesn't. either way, you know what to do when you don't like something! it's called blocking, babeeey. gold star if you made it to the end of this fat essay lmao
drinking water is really important though fr like it's not just a memefied thing it's-

Ok,ok re-watching Beastars season 1&2 (plus manga) before watching season 3 and I have 5 things to say.
1. Ok obviously as a ✨️ Gay ✨️ I see Beastars through a 'queer' lens and most of the people who I know (beside my amazing older sister ♡) whom I've tried to introduce to Beastars didnt see how GAY Legoshi and Loui and since I hadn't seen it I thought it was my imagination or something . . . But after re-watching it their so gay.
2. Ok ⚠️spolier warning kinda season 2⚠️ riz his story is so good in the manga and the comparison through what he did and legoshi is so good re-watching it 👌 .
3. ⚠️BIG SPOLIER SEASON 2⚠️
.
.
.
HOW DID I FORGET LEGOSHI EAT LOUI FREAKING LEG
4. The official art of legoshi and this grandad is so cute 💖💖💖💖💖💖 gah my HEART
5. If you need more Beastars indept look at seeing the show through a 'queer lens' go watch- Legoshi is Gay: A Queer Reading of Beastars (on YouTube @ Boring Keith) this video is so good its 3 hours long.
P.S thanks to my older sister ( @theeternalvoidstatesback ) for introducing me to the series in 2019 ( to watch the anime together 💖 ) love you.💖

Queer headcanons are important because they create representation in otherwise heteronornative works and allow lgbt members like me see themselves in their favorite characters. Here's a short list of characters I can only see as Queer.
Granblue Fantasy: Jin- He has an overwhelming gay himbo vibe that's hard to ignore. Everything about him is so flamboyant and screams bottom energy.
Warframe: Equinox and Nezha- NONBINARY- They're the most androgynous characters and they just have gender nonconforming energy.
Tekken: Leo- NONBINARY- They definitely don't care about gender norms and go out of their way to present as gender neutral.
Jojo: Rohan- ASEXUAL- Hard to imagine him ever being remotely interested in sex.
Yotsuyu Yagiyami- NONBINARY- It just suits them.
Giant Robo: Professor Go Gakujin- GAY- He totally has a crush in Chujo and it's hard to blame him.
Pokemon- Archie and Matt- GAY COUPLE- they're just perfect together.

Anybody wanna be my queer-lens, comedy-heavy classical literature buddy?
i have options!!
~PHANTOM OF THE OPERA
(both the 2004 film musical and the book) please someone I need to talk about how Raoul and Erik are actually more alike then different please I need to rant about the tragedy that is Christine’s personal agency being erased for SyMBoLiSm please
~ FRANKENSTEIN
i literally wrote my senior year English final on the queer themes!!! And animated a whole animatic to support it!!! My copy is so utterly annotated it’s destroyed but I kept a tally mark throughout of gay occurrences
~JANE AUSTEN
that’s the whole tweet
~PRETTY MUCH ANY HISTORICAL DRAMA
i don’t always wanna use my brain, sometimes I just want to scream over love triangles and yearning and society’s fashion because those have just as much emotional significance
….. also pride and prejudice and zombies
AND MORE

people like to joke that batman is a furry but my hottest batman take is that batman is actually a metaphor for gender expression and drag (he is performing hyper masculinity)

Friendly reminder to everyone that fiction with shocking, dark, gruesome, or otherwise unpleasant content is not inherently harmful to read, write, or otherwise interact with. Lolita is one of the most disturbing books out there, and not only is it taught in most undergrad lit courses, a whole genre of under-25 girlies have made it their whole personality and blog theme.
UNFRIENDLY reminder that you do not actually have any moral right to publicly call someone out for enjoying dark and disturbing content. You do not have any ethical justification for putting someone on blast as a potential risk when you have no proof they have harmed anyone. You cannot claim that a given individual represents a danger to others when they freely and often express that their work could cause distress and should be avoided by people sensitive to it.
We call that McCarthyism in common parlance, or witch hunts if you’re feeling spicy. Neither practices have, historically, effected much in the way of justice.

Me: So "trans" means to identify as a gender other than the gender assigned as birth, and a trans man for example would be assigned female but identifies as male, and a trans woman would be assigned male but identifies as female. That's a very crude explanation, but do you think that's enough for you to tell us--
Mizu: -has been staring at the "Tourism in Japan" Wikipedia page in a blind fury and hasn't heard a word I've said-

Thinking about step 9 and the whole concept of forgiveness of one’s self and others and it bringing healing and how bobby and Eddie have been paralleled a fair amount and the idea that Eddie started this process back at the end of s5 with his forgiveness and acceptance of his father but how he hasn’t yet gone anywhere near his mother and their relationship .
How his catholic guilt storyline seems more likely to play on his reltionship with his mother than his father (if his father wasn’t around that much it would’ve been Helena taking him to church etc each week) so the idea of an Eddie - Helena storyline that plays on catholic guilt and potentially his queerness in relation to that has me chewing on glass - it could be so epically good
#I’ve always viewed Helena as the biggest issue in Eddie’s relationship with his parents - Ramon has always - to me a least always seemed to#just go along with what Helena wants or dictates#it made sense with how his trauma ptsd army related arc played out that it was Ramon who was the centre of that#now though - catholic guilt - possibly playing into his queerness and suppression of that queerness#to keep some kind of reltionship with his mother - who only seems to view him through a lens of failure#leading him down a road where he wasn’t able to be his true self - it would be so powerful#there is so much potential there#eddie saying his mother wasn’t an issue in s6 - was such a choice and so pointed that they have to be wanting to explore that#so many aspects of who Eddie is and why he is the way he is - his want to nest but not being able to with women - stems from his mommy#issues and the fact he’s been denying they exist#I will eat it up - it would be the right kind of angst for the show and Ryan would deliver#plus the way it parallels with Bobby and his relationship with Catholicism would be fascinating#not to mention the whole Eddie not having a relationship with the faith he was brought up in only to start dating someone who is a literal#embodiment of that faith - and female - as a symbol of his needing to explore and reconcile the actual reasons for his faith lapsing- become#could not be queer and Latino and catholic when Eddie was growing up - it wasn’t an option - so if you step away from the faith that’s#denying a fundamental aspect of who you are#even if you still can’t act upon it - it is easier to keep that part of you concealed#911 spoilers#911 Thinky thoughts#eddie diaz#I need this arc to be a thing so badly#911 abc

not to wade into discourse about shows online which I swore to stop doing but I think some of you need to recognize that not every piece of media is about you, and that focusing only on the themes that you personally identify with while erasing the ones you don't is Not Great

reading books through a queer lens the parent edition: lego's look out below features husbands George (a serious gay) and Johnny (a bisexual 90% made of puns) as they go through their work day. Their co-workers are divided into two camps: 'George why did you marry this idiot?' and 'Johnny is goddamn hilarious!'
