Sion with new eyes made by genkiyankii

Genkiyankii was in a phase of making a bunch of resin eyes for fun, and when she asked if I'll like some resin eyes, the first doll I thought of was Sion. I've always envisioned him with light grey/blue eyes, and he had cycled through a few different pairs of eyes over the years I've had him. I always liked whichever pair he has (until I found something better). But when the option to customise eyes came up, I couldn't resist asking genkiyankii for a pair of eyes of the same grey/blue colour that's so Sion to me, but with an extra pop in the red shiny gem pupil. And genkiyankii delivered :D

Learning... learning and more learning! First thing, I need to put more white pigment in the resin. My first batch (top pair) looks good, but i am not happy with the level on the rest. Second, the dome on a few are too flat. There are also bubbles I have to work on getting rid of. But it's progress! The three in the center are 6mm diameter, the top is 8 and bottom 10.

today i'm welcoming home my first BJD, "lieselotte!" i would like to occasionally post more doll content (especially lolita related) on my blog from now on.. so you may be seeing her often!! ♡

lolita collaborations sparked my interest in ball jointed dolls quite a while ago, but i've only recently started researching them and have come to love all of the similarities these hobbies share. i was very lucky to be able to find my discontinued dream doll completely unopened from a secondhand sale despite this specific model being made and distributed almost 15 years ago. it gives the same feeling as a very well preserved time capsule of sorts.

to give more information on her--she is a 2010 limited release model volks super dollfie x baby, the stars shine bright collaboration from the storyline "harajuku memories"

she is absolutely everything i wanted in a doll and a perfect fit for me as a lolita and avid fan of btssb. i prefer the older faceups of her rather than the more modern ones. i intend on matching coords with her-- so far, i own the same gingham rose OP, her default dress, and the honey cross shoes and socks.. though i want to hunt down the same christina hat she wears. i plan to take her outside with me once the weather gets a bit nicer, as her storyline mentions that being her wish!

i'm quite new to the hobby and still have a lot to learn, so feel free to share any resources or tips ^_^

Original post here. Took me a few months due to laziness, but I finally got backdrops fitted and lights installed, and added a few new things, so the shelves are a bit fuller : )

Dark Magicians and Yami's Duel Monsters shelf:

Egyptian themed shelf:

Seto Kaiba and Blue Eyes shelf:

I swapped the 2nd and 3rd shelves from the original layout - slightly nervewracking having a 20 lb statue on the middle shelf, but at least that minimizes the visual interruption of the horizontal support bar.

Also not 100% sold on the 3rd shelf backdrop, the blue circuit board looks okay from a distance but it gets busier the closer you get. I might end up doing a space one instead, if it gets to be too much.

Hey kooks, how did you made the eyes?! Super cool 👀

A visual guide to an eye:

I've made these resin eyeballs first. Made a silicon mold from steel ball (ball bearing ones are perfect), then made a hollow in it (this part required a friend with a lathe).

Painted the iris inside the hollow.

Coated the eye in this UV gel people apparently also use for doing nails. The trick is to apply it in layers to give the eye this bump over the iris.

Cook every layer under the UV light. Then coat the whole thing evenly and cook it again.

Behold. An eye.

I'm trying to make the tiny veins out of wool now, but that needs some more practice. They turn out super messy for now, but they do turn out so it's a start XD

i felt really inspired by the mighty nein at the time i casted this design and really wanted to play around with texture, and thus this spooky set was born!
