Three-time Brit Winner Eddi Reader Contributes a Track to Have Yourself a Merry Indie Christmas
Eddi Reader started her musical journey singing backing vocals for the legendary post-punk combo Gang of Four and The Eurythmics, before forming Fairground Attraction with Mark E. Nevin in 1984. The band signed with RCA in 1988 and hit the pop jackpot straight off the bat with the uber-catchy “Perfect”, the iconic song reaching No1. Another top ten hit followed later in the year in the shape of “Find my Love”. The debut album The First of a Million Kisses peaked at No 2. The bands stellar success was recognised at the Brits, as the band made off with the best single and best album trophies.
The band split up in November 1989, and Eddi turned her hand to acting and presenting on BBC Scotland. In 1991, the singer released her debut solo album Mirmama. It was followed by an eponymous label debut for Warner’s subsidiary Blanco Y Negro in 1994 earning her another Brit award, this time for best female singer. Between 1994 and 1999 there were 5 hit singles, most notably “Patience of Angels”.
Eddi has continued to release albums regularly, including Light Is in The Horizon earlier this year.

The second contributor announced today is Jeremy Neale, lead singer of the 12-piece Brisbane band Velociraptor. Jeremy is “donating” a song from his solo project, and it is an absolute cracker (pardon the pun).
Velociraptor self-released their eponymous debut album back in 2003, although Dot Dash re-issued it in 2014. In an interview with Scenewave in 2012, at the time he started to release singles under his own name, he acknowledged his influences to be ‘The Kinks for sure. A lot of Mersey Beat artists like Gerry and The Pacemakers and The Hollies as well as more modern proponents of garage pop like The Hives and Black Lips’.
He has been described as ‘a genre-hopping enigma of the Brisbane and wider Australian Scene’.
