As someone who hates just about everything his own family stands for, Jongho finds himself entering his freshman year at the very same university his older brother is at… Along with all of his cousins. Being second in line for the throne allowed him some anonymity and he hopes to keep it that way for as long as possible, going as far as to swear his own family to secrecy. And he only wants to hide away the more his lies begin to catch up with him as he meets one of the only scholarship students in the whole of the very prestigious, hard to get in to unless you have money, KQ University.

You sit in front of your parents as your bedroom clicks shut, Jongho waiting in there while you had the discussion you’d been dreading with your parents. You father sets a cup of tea down in front of you and you glance at the mug that Jongho had been working on super gluing back together for your mom sitting haphazardly on the coffee table.

“I just want you to know that regardless… You guys are still my parents. I love you. I just need… Answers.” You clear your throat and begin to explain everything that had happened in the time since the semester started; how Seungkwan was your RA, how you’d met Jongho and Wooyoung, how Soobin had actually written in his will that you’d be Odi’s caretaker and you thought it was a joke…

That was definitely the laugh you needed before getting into the darker side.

As you explained that Jongho had hidden who he was from you, you notice your father shifting, looking rather angry and annoyed as his gaze shifts to the bedroom door separating the three of you from the man in question.

“I understand why he lied… I think I would have done the same, maybe not as long as he had done it, but I get it.” You sigh, “Seungkwan hired a private investigator to dig it up. And within the week of cutting Jongho off, someone told me who Seungkwan was…” You opt to leave out the information that it was Jongho’s brother, not wanting to add fuel to the fire your father looked like he wanted to set.

“I need to know why… If you know anything. And why didn't you tell me!” You’re pleading with them now and your mother wipes away the tears on her face.

She stands and comes to sit next to you, “It was never our intention to keep it from you. Certainly not this long, but we were worried that if your biological father knew that you knew, he would cause trouble. Your mother has kept in touch… She asks for pictures of you, updates on your achievements. She seemed very proud when she found out you were accepted to KQ.” She brings a hand to your face and wipes the tear away that you didn’t even know had fallen down your cheek.

“I worked for them for a few years before you and Seungkwan were born. Neither of them ever had a desire to have children. Both of you were accidents,” you father had a more crass approach but at least he was being honest. “We’d just lost your brother a few months before you were born.”

You knew that… of course you did. Your parents always said they wanted you to know you had a brother. As he continues, he explains that the pregnancy began to drive a wedge between your birth parents. They didn’t want one child, let alone two and your birth father had reached his limit.

It was your birth mother who had the heart to give you away to a couple she knew needed a second chance and that she knew she could trust with you. At least this way, she knew you were going to a good home with a happy and safe couple.

Your father had paid them off, buying a small house for them in a small town six hours away. He signed off on enough funds that they wouldn’t have to work until you were a legal adult. His stipulation was that you were to never know who your biological parents were and you were to be told it was a closed adoption.

As you sit and process the information, you can’t help but to ache at the thought of your family whom you’d never known. Your father didn’t seem you worthy of knowing who he even was. Your mother seemed to want to know you, but didn’t say anything…

Your brother, who knows when he found out, had tried desperately to have some kind of relationship with you, but had gone about it in all the wrong ways. Protective, but destructive.

And you couldn’t really blame him. Based on the information you were told just now, he definitely didn’t grow up in a happy and healthy home. So he showed love in the only way he knew how. That didn’t mean what he’d done was excusable. He could have just spoken to you and you would have been… understanding. At least you would hope that you would have been.

You sigh softly and you turn to give your mom a hug, whispering quietly to remind her that you love her and that she would always be your mom no matter what. You stand up and turn to your father, doing the same and allowing the man who you’d never seen emotional, do the same with you.

It takes all you have in you to separate yourself from him, kissing each of them on the cheek and turning to go to your room with the excuse that you were exhausted from traveling and had a lot to deal with in the coming days after you finally went back to school. But for the next few days, you would be enjoying your time with your parents and Jongho.

You shut the bedroom door behind you and turn to see Jongho setting his phone down and holding up a white teddy bear you know to be your brother’s. You smile at him, climbing onto the bed with him and inserting yourself into his arms, laying against him and pressing your face against his neck as you cradle the teddy bear to your chest between the two of you.

Jongho is surprised but he settles and holds you close to him, helping you to get comfortable. He only pauses when he feels tears beginning to hit his skin and his mouth falls open. He closes his eyes and rocks you slightly, humming softly and turning to kiss your forehead. He whispers quiet promises to you, wanting to make it known that he was always going to be there for you and that he loves you so very much.

The words don’t register with you right away, but when they do, you’re too far gone from the world and half asleep to even manage to make any recognizable word fall from your lips.

“It’s okay. Go to sleep, my love.” He mumbles, guiding you to lay flat on the bed as he reaches over to cut the lamp off. “It’ll be okay.”

You sighed as you pocketed your phone and walked out through the sliding doors of the airport. You pushed your trolley filled with your suitcases towards a cab, waving to gain the attention of the smoking woman leaning against the yellow vehicle.

“Hi,” You greeted, “Could you please drive me to Tokyo University?”

The woman nodded, twisting the blunt of her cigarette onto the hood of her car.

“Sure, I can get you there. Let’s put your stuff in the back first,” she offered, gesturing to your belongings.

You nodded, pushing the trolley towards the trunk, “Yes, thank you.”

The blonde woman popped open the trunk and you started loading your things inside with some effort.

“You have a lot of things,” she noted as she closed the trunk of the cab.

You nodded, walking over to the passenger’s side, “Yes, I’m here on an exchange program from America.”

“Oh, sweet!” The woman cheered, “You’re Iapanese is amazing! I’m Tanaka Saeko, but you’re can call me Saeko.”

“I used to live in Japan but thank you, Saeko.”

“I have a brother that goes to Tokyo university actually,” Saeko said as she started the engine, “What year are you?”

“Second.”

“Sweet!” Saeko cheered again, swerving slightly on the busy road, “So is Ryuu!”

You clutched onto the little handle above the car window as Saeko continued to drive wrecked sky fast, “I see.”

“I can introduce you two, if you’d like!” She offered, “he’s really nice and outgoing!”

You purses your lips together, unsure with raking up her offer, “I’m okay,” you end up saying politely, “I just want to settle down for myself first.”

“Alright,” Saeko nodded, “Well we’re here! Would you like some help getting your things to your dorm?”

You shook your head. “No thank you,” you decline softly, not wanting a stranger to know the location of your dorm, “I can handle it.”

The blonde woman grimaced, thinking about all the luggage you had but let you be, “Alright then!”

She helped you unload the suitcases and boxes in the trunk onto the sidewalk before driving away.

You bit your lip, wondering how you would be able to move your belongings inside. Perhaps there was some sort of trolley?

As you stood there blankly, a beautiful girl with black hair and glasses walked up to you with a group of people behind her.

“Hello?” You greeted her, unsure why she had come up to you.

She gave you a soft smile, dipping her head slightly in greeting, “Hello. I’m Kiyoko Shimizu.”

“Y/N L/N,” you echoed, giving your name.

She nodded, “Yes, the American Exchange Student. I was sent to help you settle in, since I’m the RA of your hall.”

“Oh,” You licked your lips, “Thank you very much,” you say gratefully.

Kiyoko nodded, “Of course. I bought some of my friends to help move your things,” she said, pointing to the boys behind her.

You awkwardly wave to them, a bit nervous by how many people were around you at the moment.

“Thank you for your help, Shimizu’s friends,” you manage to muster, bowing your head a little.

One of the boys, the bald one, makes an incredulous face at your words, “HUH!? You’re calling her by her first name!?”

“Oh,” immediately, you panic a little, “I’m sorry. I remembered that Japanese people call each other by their last names and she said Shimizu after Kiyoko,” you said quietly.

The girl in question shook her head, “It’s really okay. You’re right, but we also introduce ourselves last name then first.”

“My apologies,” you bow your head, “I’ll keep that in mind.”

“Tanaka!” the male with the short hair hit the bald boy over the head, “Don’t be rude! She’s an exchange student!”

A male with longer brown hair nodded in agreement, “That’s right. And I think her Japanese is quite good anyway.”

“Hmph,” Tanaka crossed his arms stubbornly and made a face at the scoldings he received while a shorter male with a tuff of blonde hair laughed at him.

The shorter male that originally scolded him smiled sheepishly and shook your head, “I’m sorry about Tanaka, Kiyoko’s his soulmate and he’s really protective of her. I’m Daichi.”

“I see,” you murmured, “I’m sorry for threatening their bond I suppose.”

A silver haired male greeted you next, smiling pleasantly, “I’m Sugawara, Daichi’s soulmate.”

“I’m Asahi,” The tallest one introduced himself to you, “I’m-”

“He’s my soulmate!” the shortest one interrupted loudly, stepping in front of Asashi, “I’m Nishinoya.”

The bald one introduced himself last, looking less grumpy, “What’s up bruh? I’m Tanaka.”

“Stop trying to be cool bro,” Nishinoya teased the bald headed male, “Bruh doesn’t sound cool.”

Tanaka reacted immediately, a large tic mark forming on his forehead, “What was that!? You’re just jealous I get a beautiful goddess like Kiyoko as my soulmate!”

“Bro...” All of a sudden, Nishinoya’s eyes watered, making you surprised.

“Bro...” Tanaka repeated, puffing up his chest.

“Sorry about them,” Kiyoko apologized, “They’re usually like this, I can’t even say they’re not.”

You shook your head, “Everything is fine.”

“What year are you in Y/N?” Sugawara inquired as they started picking up your things.

You wrapped your fingers around you carry on bag, “I’m a second year.”

“Really bruh!?” Tanaka exclaimed, dragging one of your suitcases along, “So am I!”

“Me too!” Nishinoya yelled, “Brooooo!”

You furrowed your eyebrows before a lightbulb went off above your head, “Oh, are you Saeko’s brother than?”

At the mention of the busty blonde, Nishinoya’s eyes lit up, “No way! You know Saeko Nee-chan? We gotta be best friends now.”

“She drove my cab here,” you explained, making Tanaka wince.

“I’m so sorry for your near death experience,” he muttered, a dark shadow falling over his eyes, “Last time I let her drive me somewhere, we almost drove off the road.”

The idea was ridiculous, making you blow air out of your nose in a quiet hald-laugh. She hadn’t been that bad.

“Here’s my dorm,” you murmured, “I don’t have a key or anything?”

Kiyoko fished one out of her pocket, handing it to you, “They gave it to me to give to you.”

You used the key to open your dorm room. It’s sparsely furnished with a single bed, a desk, and empty bookshelf,

“Well this is it,” you say softly, “Thank you for your help.”

“Wait!” Nishinoya stopped everyone before taking out his phone, “What’s your number?”

You blinked, not knowing how to respond. If you declined in front of everyone, you’d seem a bit mean. And your mother did say to make possible connections for the future.

“xxx-xxx-xxxx,” you said slowly.

He nodded, “Got it! Well see you later!”

“See yea!”

“Later!”

A chorus of goodbyes later, you were left alone in your dorm room. You sighed, rolling up your sleeves to start unpacking.

author's note: so there is a longgg written part underneath this . and ik what u may be thinking!! "im reading this smau because i dont want to read" . why tf is the written part so long?? but just read it because a major part of the plot happens in this chapter!! and there are more social media slides under the written part 🤍

Jake is passive in every aspect of life except soccer.

Truly a golden boy, Jake has always been naturally good at everything: good at school, good at being handsome, and good at socializing.

Jake does have natural talent when it comes to athleticism, but everybody knows that no athlete has been successful by just natural talent- you need hard work, grit, and drive.

Since everything else comes with ease, he channels all that energy into soccer- which is why he has met so much success within his athletic career.

Jake was a member of *country name*'s U-19 soccer team, until he turned 20 and decided to join his university's soccer team before joining a soccer club. It was an odd career path- going back to school after playing for the U-19 team, but Jake didn't want to miss out on university life before he went pro.

Right now, the team is warming up before dribbling drills. He's practicing one touch passes with Huening Kai, launching the ball at Huening Kaiwith strength and precision before Huening Kai kicks it back. And usually, Jake is usually super attentive- even during warms ups when there's really nothing going on until..

"Hey Y/N!" Sunghoon's voice echoing across the field pulls Jake from his trance, and he whips his head to your direction. The soccer ball that Huening Kai kicked his way rolls meters behind Jake.

He sees you roll your eyes when Sunghoon and Jungwon run up to you to start making face, and he stifles his laughter at the way Sunghoon gasps dramatically and puts his palm on his chest.

What is it about you that distracts him so much?

Empathy, probably. And not in the pity kinda way- Jake isn't like that. He doesn't pity anyone. If anything, he dislikes pitiful people, and as harsh as it sounds, it’s true.

He remembers when you used to show up to soccer practice with food and water, waiting patiently on the sidelines for Minwoo. You would feed him, wipe his face, buy him food, and drive him home all while Minwoo treated you like utter shit.

"Is she dumb? Following after him like a puppy while he doesn't even look at her?" were the types of thoughts that would cross Jake's mind.

He thought that you were an idiot and strongly disliked that part of you until what you said to Minwoo during the soccer game. "Go fuck yourself." It was satisfying, hearing you tell Minwoo off because the guy is such a pretentious asshole.

But when he saw you run off, tears falling from your eyes, Jake wanted to run after you (because your stupid ex-boyfriend couldn't) to make sure you were okay.

He didn't even know why he wanted to run after you. His legs were just screaming at him to sprint after you. It was instinct.

But nonetheless he couldn't because he was in the middle of the game. They blew that games thanks to Minwoo. Minwoo played like ass for the rest of the game, practically passing the ball to the other team. Jake was so frustrated, screaming at Minwoo from across the field to pass the ball to him. But like stated before, Minwoo is a pretentious asshole who doesn't like passing the ball.

After the game, Jake stayed longer like he usually does, taking his after game shower in the men's locker room. After he was done, he walked by a few classrooms in the athletic building, his steps faltering when he saw Ra-Im and Minwoo making out in one of the classrooms.

A grimace was etched on Jake's face when he saw that. Minwoo literally has zero redeemable qualities. And he's completely done with Ra- Im too, who he considered a friend at one point.

The thing is, Jake can tolerate questionable behavior. Everybody is young, still in college, and navigating their way through life.

But he finds cheating reprehensible. He remembers the way his father punched him in the face after Jake caught him having an affair with his old soccer mentor. He remembers the way he stood in front of his mother to shield her from his father, and the way that woman was sobbing as if she had been slighted. He hates cheaters.

So maybe that's why he weirdly pushed you against the wall and held onto your hand. Maybe that's why he let you cry into his $500 Saint Laurent hoodie. And maybe that's why he's literally staring at you from across the field while Huening Kai is waving his arms in front of Jake to catch his attention.

"Jungwon, I already read the tweet. I know you forgot the cones," Sunghoon says matter a factly, rolling his eyes while you tried to "discreetly" leave the cones on the ground.

"Just don't tell coach," Jungwon grumbles in response before grabbing the bag of cones from the ground.

Jungwon leans down, giving you a friendly hug. "Thank you so much Y/N. I'll make it up to you,” he grins at you before you roll your eyes, swatting his upper arm.

"I've heard that one before," you mumble, referring to all the times Jungwon has said I owe you and then giving you nothing.

"That's slander," Jungwon retorts, "I always buy you food!" "Okay, and I always buy you food too so what's your point?" you reciprocate with equal sass.

"Y/N if you stay and watch practice-“

Oh hell no. "I am not staying here," you enunciate firmly.

"-I'll treat you to Korean barbeque afterwards,” he says in a sing song tone, and you immediately shut up. Korean barbeque was literally your weakness and Jungwon knows that.

Sunghoon owlishly blinks at your interaction, then stifling a laughter at your and Jungwon's bickering. "What? No invite?” he jokes.

Jungwon smiles at the upperclassmen. "You just have to pay for yourself since I'm currently broke-“

"If you're broke why are you offering to treat people to expensive meals?" you add, unimpressed before you turn the heel and begin to walk away. "I'm turning off my phone so don't text me!" you call out, leaving Jungwon dumbfounded.

"Well that's a shame," Sunghoon adds, "My parents actually run a barbeque place and we could get in there for free," he fakes a pout, "only if Y/N stayed,” he yells out- a little too loud. And like lighting speed you run back. "Wait!" you sit down on the sidelines, looking up at them.

“I'm sat.”

So that's how you ended up staying during practice. Honestly, you just sat on the cold grass watching Blue Lock on your phone. Jungwon and Sunghoon never said you had to watch them play, and you aren't interested anyways.

Maybe your lack of enthusiasm is why you completely miss the way a soccer ball comes flying towards your head at like 40 miles per hour.

"Y/N! Move!" Jungwon's voice pulls you from your trance and you look up and see a ball coming your way and you freeze, squeezing your eyes shut and preparing for impact.

When it doesn't come, you open your eyes and see Jake standing in front of you with the ball at his feet. A big sigh of relief leaves your lips. "

Th-thank you Jake," you express quietly. Jake swivels around and smiles at you. "No problem. But you probably shouldn't be sitting here, it's too dangerous." He picks up your purse and offers a hand, helping you stand up.

"Oh yea, it probably is," you reply, still a little out of breath and scared.

"You should sit here instead," he suggests, pointing to a cozy sitting area under a tree- plenty far away from the field

"Oh thanks," you respond, following him and settling under the tree. Jake squats to meet your height. "Are you okay though? Man I'm gonna kill Riki for that," he grumbles.

You tuck a strand of hair behind your ear. "Yea, I'm all good, don't worry. Just a little startled?" you express.

Jake laughs at that. "Well I have to get back now. I'll see you around?" he asks before standing up. "

Yea, you will," are the words that suddenly leave your lips, and you're surprised that you even said that.

Jake smiles at that, and for some reason your hand reaches for his wrist before he can leave. "Um, Sunghoon, Jungwon, and I are going out for barbeque after this. Did you maybe want to join?" you ask shyly.

"Oh yea, sure. I'd love to," he responds without even a brief moment of hesitation. And just like that he's running back to the field to get back to the scrimmage game.

And for some reason, you find yourself paying more attention to the game. With your eyes focused on Jake, you can't help but admire how good he is at soccer. He's amazing.

He's fast good at stealing the ball, and when he kicks the ball right into the goal, your heart flutters slightly.

But for some reason? You can't help but think that Jake is being really aggressive with Minwoo. But eh, you don't know anything about soccer when it's not in anime so who are you to make that call?
