been a while. stuff kinda happened but i don’t really feel like getting into it. anyways here’s yet another WIP. these two are tabaxis related to my pc - esmerr esterr (the litlte girl on the right) and an unnamed male relative (maybe an older brother, or an unrelated caretaker, idk).  they were part of a nomadic desert tribe, and one of their favorite pastimes was exploring ruins and other fun places in search of items and other treasures that they could trade away or sell to other tribes and travelers. i was thinking of making the boy a druid and the girl a rogue (and perhaps an assassin later on, but don’t worry about it).
their story doesn’t have the best ending, but that’s like the main risk of being part of a pc’s backstory. sometimes you just gotta die for someone else’s character development. whoops.

Bruce is the restraining bolt
Let's say that Bruce "dies" again. Tim, of course, figures it's another temporary thing and bonus he doesn't need to risk another organ to prove it this time. That being said, Bruce isn't around to stop them now. Dick doesn't feel the need to be the dad this time since Bruce will be back. He's the big brother, the babysitter at best. Jason has never felt the need to step up into a parental role for any of his sibs before and he's not going to stop now. Cass won't kill, that is her line, beyond that, she's not anyone's parent either. Tim is one bad day away from being a supervillain, he seriously needs a vacation but at the same time he needs something that will keep him busy or he will get paranoid (thanks B for the trauma) and so he's not going to stop anyone, Duke doesn't have the experience to know when or if he should stop any of his sibs, steph and barbara are staying out of it as while they are family they consider themselves cousins at best no matter what B says, and no one is going to let Damian boss them around.
That being established, B is gone, Alfred is fretting but not inclined to stop anyone anyway, the kids decide that while the bat is away...
When Bruce returns, Alfred is just returning from a spa trip his beloved grandchildren insisted that he go on since he deserved a nice break and they even investigated to make sure the spa wasn't a scam or front! While Alfred was gone and Bruce was "dead", all Black Mask's warehouses had been mysteriously destroyed with large explosions that Bruce had previously forbidden because he was worried about collateral damage since some of those warehouses were sandwiched by other storage facilities and places where people squatted. (Steph and Jason, both very affronted because they are professionals B! And yes, there were also glitter bombs involved, it made the fire extra pretty with the different colors).
Furthermore, Lex Luthor is no longer the majority shareholder of his own company anymore, that would be Tim now, and all of Lex's employees are rejoicing since they're all getting a pay raise that brings them from the legal bare minimum to not just a living wage but twice that plus benefits even for those who aren't full timers (which is basically everyone, lex never wanted to get benefits for anyone). Lex is also being investigated for embezzling, money laundering, domestic and international terrorism, and the trafficking of minors (kon). Lex chose a very bad time to make Kon sad and Tim took that personally.
Bruce also discovered that Tim's childhood home, aka the drake's old place next door for the given value of next door, has been demolished and that whole area is now a botanical garden and registered wildlife sanctuary. (Damian with assistance and permission from Tim since technically the land was in Tim's name, Damian persuaded Poison Ivy to help while also monitoring to ensure she didn't slip in anything detrimental and also breaking up the exotic animal smuggling ring that B had been trying to keep from him to prevent this very thing. Tim, in the meantime, just happened to have a number of people on hand more than happy to work in a botanical garden/wildlife sanctuary and no, none of those people were ever formerly ninja who answered to Ra's before realizing that Red Robin was a far better employer, why would you ever think they were?)
And of course, the Joker is dead. None of his kids are fessing up to this. If pressed, they will cry, even Jason, and say that they thought Joker killed their dad and they wished it had been them because they missed him so much! (It was Dick and Barbara, Babs faked the paperwork for Dick to go in as an orderly, Dick, in disguise, gave the Joker altered medication via injection and made sure to get some air bubbles in for good measure, official COD was a totally natural brain aneurysm, so sad, no autopsy needed, burn the body)
Duke was a bit of a wild card and ended up hanging out with Selina, picking up a few extra skills, and using those skills to break into various mansions and apartments of the filthy rich to steal back stolen art and artifacts and return them to museums in their country of origin so they can be enjoyed by everyone (he watched indiana jones recently and the "it belongs in a museum" popped into his head a lot, he did wear a particular hat while he was committing his heists) It was nice potential step mother and step son bonding time
And finally, Cass causes Ra's Al Ghul to lose a particular appendage, one that the lazarus pit hasn't been able to grow back for him thanks to a little consultation with Constantine beforehand. She then went to hang out at Themyscira and got some very pretty bracelets.
Bruce is thinking very hard about just turning around. He takes a nap instead and then he lectures his beloved nutcases about personal safety, the law, respecting what is essentially dibs on certain super villains, and all the other boring stuff he's tried to impose on them over the years.

Hot take. Everyone needs to stop pointing at one character in Jade Winglet and be like “AH! They're THE asshole of the group! That one! That one specifically!” Because everyone is an asshole.
Moonwatcher won't shut the fuck up which causes people to feel bad (Reference; Winter Turning, Pg. 75) because, hypocritically, she only has a censor if it “benefits” (hard quotation because it has always failed her. Reference; Luna and Moonwatchers interaction) her.
Qibli is an ass, like, a HUGE ass. He pressures Turtle and berates the very thing he's self-conscious about. He's got massive main-character syndrome; he wants power, he always wanted power, but he wants COMPLETE control of power without any repercussions. One of the reasons he refused Darkstalker's offer was because he wasn't entirely sure he would slip something in there.
Winter is an ass, he literally attacks other dragons without thinking about it (Reference; Peril), he's quick to strike and like Qibli, berates Turtle for being “a waste of potential” to his tribe.
Kinkajou goes off on everyone's backs and uses the remnants of the magic scroll to control and transform Darkstalkers against his consent or will. She has essentially killed him via poison. The whole book and DS character arc was trying to push through a narrative that you shouldn't control people, that you shouldn't take away their free will, and that you shouldn't transform their being into a form for your desire and comfort. Yet it's completely flipped on its head because Kinkajou wanted to be “a little silly” with her solution in ending the IceWing and NightWing conflict. She does exactly just this and that makes her part of the asshole list.
Turtle is inactive, his inaction causes a lot of problems for the others in a negative way in order to preserve his own self. He uses animus magic on Anemone just to make sure that he doesn't get any attention but this backfires and his sister is left not only being used as a WMD by Queen Coral, additionally, she is also left feeling alone in her magic. Turtle just sat on the sidelines as he actively watched Anemone get used like a tool by her mother and groomed by a disgusting snotball of a power-hungry political obsessed eel bbq dragon. His “neutrality” was incredibly toxic towards the upbringing of his sister. Yet, despite being the one guy everyone likes to pounce on and beat down he's probably the LEAST asshole character out of everyone in Jade Winglet. You can point at Turtle's issue of “not doing anything” and dig deeper to realize he's a child for one (an even younger child when he enchanted Anemone) and for two it's an unhealthy trauma response from his family. He has helped and supported every single Jade Winglet member in their “fall/on their knees” development and all he ever got in return was those to treat him like garbage (with Peril being the only one who wanted to help him and realizing how shitty animus magic is for him and attempted to make a situation better by ripping up the scroll with good intentions in mind).
Peril is probably the most self-explanatory but she tries. I can't really say anything else about the flaming toaster oven w/ the pizza box inside it dragon that not everyone else has said negatively about Peril before. She's uncontrollable and she constantly talks about hurting others, yak yak yak… Brownie points is that she's attempting to become a better person and trying to find her own path in life.
Now that everyone has run away typing furiously in the comments reblogging tags about this and that I want to emphasize that everything I said above is about CANON CONTENT. You can LOVE YOUR ASSHOLES!!! I personally LOVE MY ASSHOLES!!! There is nothing wrong with acknowledging that the protagonists that you read aren't the greatest people in the whole wide world. I know I wouldn't want to be in the same room as Peril if she was an actual person; with that said that doesn't mean she ISN’T my favorite dragon in the whole gosh darn freaking series. Winter is a bastard, I love Winter. Qibli is a bastard, I love Qibli. Moonwatcher… Actually, no. Moonwatcher can not. (this last one is a joke and a personal opinion, if I was to look at her into it retrospectively and have a positive thing to say I would say she's very neurodivergent relatable, and her power is very autism-coded.).
Jade Winglet is full of bastards.
I love my Jade Winglet bastards.
Stop being in denial and using “well I don't like [Insert Jade Winglet Member] because of what they did with [Insert Plot Point Here]” and accept that your favorite is a bastard. Tired of hearing about this rank system on who's more fucked up than the other and debating if they deserve love and respect for that. Ofc they do. They're your favs, y'all don't need to push or morally justify trying to like your favs by putting another Jade Winglet member down. You aren't impressing anyone or going “GOTCHA!” for this thought process.
Now stop fighting you cursed dragon hyperfixated disaster fandom. (/j)

I don't know how to articulate this perfectly but I'm so happy for how the show is portraying Renna's desire for an emotional "connection" with Egwene as genuine because it highlights, to me, a crucial underlying aspect of Egwene's psyche going forward. A particular allergic reaction she'll develop let's say. The Seanchan are messing her up in about a thousand different ways but one of the more prominent ones is that it completely F U C K S with her relationship to power/authority. Especially within the context of a personal relationship.
Egwene is absolutely the embodiment of the "I'm going to get a good grade in ________, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve" meme. Which initially, while very strong-headed and singularly motivated, does make her quite amenable to being governed. She's a Grade A+ Student(TM) with a healthy dose of "respect authority" and "give benefit of doubt to the system and its enforcers" that generally comes with that. The only real conflict for her then was whose authority and which hierarchy of knowledge she was acquiescing to, Nynaeve/The Wisdom or Moiraine/The Aes Sedai.
Then she's made into a Damane. With all the horror that that entails. An absolute governing of every aspect of her being, a ruthless domination of her body, a weaponization of her mind against her. A complete stripping of personhood and agency while in the same breath exalting her power that is being put to "proper use". Now all of that is already enough to severely break her amenability to authority and people having power over her ever again. But it's more than that.
The horror is encased in intimacy. This forced intimacy that invades her body both on a physical level (all the ways in which her body is literally controlled directly by Renna) and magical level (the high/rush of touching the One Power even when done forcibly and against her will that is facilitated only through a connection with Renna). And Renna wants to have a third in genuine emotional intimacy. Renna sincerely wants to be close to her. She genuinely feels good and exhilarant when they're "connected". She offers, what are in her eyes, kindness, consideration, and thoughtfulness to this person who is resisting and defying merely out of stubbornness and spite. She is legitimately seeking a companion in Egwene to face the Last Battle with and make a stand for the greater good. Renna knows she is right and she wants nothing more than for Egwene to truly see that too. Why can't she see what is good for her?
If only ... she'd just ... submit. To being loved and held and ruled in the right way. For her own good.
To me, every interpersonal conflict that Egwene finds herself in, in one way or another, is tainted by this aspect of her time as a Damane. Renna poisoned her ability to navigate an interpersonal conflict as anything but an existential power struggle that she MUST win. No matter how much true love and care each party holds for the other, no matter which of them is right or wrong. Her sense of identity cannot survive anything else. Especially when it's with someone who does legitimately, in one way or another, have power over her and isn't afraid to exercise it.
I just ... I really love Egwene and I think her effed up relationship to power is really really interesting and heartbreaking actually. And this doesn't even scratch the surface of the lasting damage the Seanchan deal her.

SUNSET PART 2
Or a pretty bad doctor
Tumblr media
Clarisse La Rue x Cassandra De Young (oc! Apollo's kid)
Summary: Clarisse is going to colect her dept, by treating her wounds with a very bad doctor. Or the one when Clarisse likes to taunt people.
Warnings: that time when you actually stop to think about your own life, mentions (one) of blood, confident Clarisse (she likes to taunt pretty girls, even when they are bad doctors)
(We actually get a clarisse pov today!)
Part 1 is here!
There were exactly seven demigods in the Apollo's cabin this afternoon.
An absurdly low number for a summer everyday, but considering im early, this must be common.
I've never seen camp so empty, its feels like another reality if im being honest, nobody saw when me and Clarisse walked in togheter, nor when she walked with me to the front of my cabin, and dropped the suitcases on the grass and started to walk towards her own cabin.
"Hey Clarisse! ....thank you! I wouldnt have made it withou-" she turned her head to me
"You owe me, dont forget that."
Like she would allow me to, why children of Ares got no patience? Or like, actually willingness to be sociable? They cant act like that with everybody, can they?
This was the first time i actually got space in this cabin, as well as the first time i could pick my own bed and place all my things calmly, is this how castor and pollux live everyday? Lucky them.
I mean, i love my siblings, but we are too many to such limited space.
And as much as that does leads us to somewhat funny situations, we are still too many, with too few bathrooms and mirrors.
Being like this allowed us to breathe, and think slowly, as if a person who lived his whole life in the busy city moved to a town who was mostly farm.
And that was when i started to miss the mess my siblings made when we were all togheter, when i actually had time to stop and think.
I cant even imagine the things my grandpa is saying about me, how he must be trying to poison the family against ourselves, he does that even when the smallest things dont go his way, and right now, the whole family must think of me as if i am Queen Mary I, and they are the protestants im trying to burn alive.
I didnt go to dinner that night, nor to the campfire, i wouldnt manage to eat without feeling dizzy after, and i was sure i was not in the mood for singing that night.
I just showered, put my pajamas on, grabbed a book, layed on my bed and hoped that time ran faster.
Tumblr media
Coming to camp earlier had its benefits, at least to me, pick the bed, be aware of any new faces earlier, train more (with people who could actually be named opponents, wich just meant they had better sense of combat than a inflatable doll from a gas station) and of course, run away from insufferable family members who i had to face for nine months, to see more insfferable family members who i'll still have to face for three months.
Funny.
I just wouldnt expect to see her there too.
She always likes to spend some days of her rich girl summer life in her family's yatch, or shopping..not that i keep track of her life, i know very little, but i do know that she likes to get to camp when its already messy, people all around, shooting arrows, swimming, painting, fighting, singing and all, but this year she was here early and with a strange look on her face.
It was just..weird.
I didnt felt right.
But what surprised me the most was she asking for my help, and being in dept with me.
She didnt even looked at me in a normal day.
I think there is something to do with her family, they look at me, almost always with a ugly face, and then they keep her away from me.
So, she speaking to me was a surprise.
But to be honest, if i hadnt saw her earlier, i wouldnt even know she was here, i mean, she didnt left her cabin all...not that i kept track of that, but still, unsual, especially for a Apollo kid, they always love to be out and about under the sun.
But then, the whole afternoon? Nothing
Dinner? Nothing
Campfire? Nothing
At night when i went to practice a bit more with my sword? Nothing
She better not have run away, because she is still in dept with me, and im going to collect it right now.
It was late, but the cabin still had a small light coming from inside.
Strange, all of the cabins had their lights out, they were sleeping.
I knocked on the door, waited and knocked again, after a few seconds a sleepy Cassandra oppened the door, rubbing her eyes and taking a few seconds to realize what was happening.
Then she looked down, and saw me holding my own arm to stop the blood.
"Already?" She looked at me again, and started to tie her hair up, it always amazed me how in every situation she was her.
If people didnt knew she was a demigodess, they would probably think she never even stepped in earth ground, that she never had to share, or suffered any problems at all, her family raised her to be little miss perfect, and little miss perfect she was, even when what she was wearing looked like it came straight out of a beach party, she made it look like designer clothes, she looked expensive, always.
"You said whenever, today is whenever too" i said, walking in when she stepped aside to give me space to enter. "Wait, where are your siblings?"
"We were only in seven today, and since the camp is empty, they are probably sleeping with their friends, or boyfriend and girlfriends." She looked around, probably for a first aid kid.
"What about you? Nobody invited little miss magazine cover for a sleepover?" She grabs a kit and sits at one bed, starring at me...oh right, i sit down by her side.
"Im not in the mood for that tonight, Clarisse"
"Based of the fact you are still fully d-"
She stomped her feet on the ground
"Do you always have to be like this? Thats why my family wont let me talk to you! Im not in the mood for jokes, for sleepovers and specially for us to keep stinging each other" she oppened a little alcohol bottle, to clean the wounds i think.
"Oh they wont let you? so you wanted to? That-AH WHY?" I screamed when she just poured the alcohol straight into the cut
"Okay that didnt hurt....a lot, youre being dramatic, also, enough of that talk" she said while cleaning my cuts with a piece of cotton. "Now, we dont have nectar or ambrosia in here, and going to the infirmary is to risky..but you have small cuts, i think this will do....dontfinditweird... please"
"Why would i find it weir-" i was cut mid sentence by her giving a small kiss in my arm, and starting to bandage me right away, though i did saw some of my cuts getting better. "Im sorry, you do that since when?"
"Its..been a time, i just never used it because, you know, going around kissing random demigod's wounds would be, weird and unhygienic" she holded a finger up, and then a second, as if counting the reasons. "But hey, you are all set, and you should go, before anyone notices the lights on"
"Hey they were on before i even came in" i got up, and so did she, gathering all the used stuff and throwing them in the bin by the side of the bed.
"True, i was reading before, and fell asleep...i guess thank you... in a certain way, if you hadnt came here they would stay on the whole night and the chance of my siblings getting caught being out of the cabin was huge.." i looked around, "The song of Achilles" was it was half open on one of the beds.
"Greek myth retelling?" I ask walking towards the door, she just hums in agreement.
"A pretty good book, you should try to read it...i dont know if you like books very much but.. yeah"
"Maybe, tell me when you finish it, ill see if im in the mood for it" i open the door and put a step outside, but before i trully left i said "You are a pretty bad doctor, you know? Not even treating all the wounds, my lips are also cut" i watched her face go from confusion to realization in a second
"Clarisse! you-"
I slammed the door.

trope: friends with benefits + abby
𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠𝐬: mentions of smut
𝐧𝐨𝐭𝐞: abby and this trope is so delicious i wanna eat it. anyway if u want more or wanna send other tropes.. look at my sleepover!
Tumblr media
Most people on the base had routines. A small motion only for themself that was repeated every so often, something to cling onto in moments of chaos. A sense of calm in what could be an otherwise tornado of life that tends to surround WLFs. Sometimes it was a cold drink in a dry mouth, one that stung in all right aways against their throat. Sometimes it was a small meeting with friends, tucked away in one of the thousands of corners to this crowded center. Sometimes it was a cigarette between their lips, finding a more personal way to push out the grievances of the week into the air, replacing it with another poison.
Your pick, your guilty pleasure that you found yourself returning to whenever things became too overwhelming, was your best friend’s arms. It was the softness of her quiet room, pressed into the blanket of her bed when no one was around. Your routine was finding a heap of blonde hair in between your thighs, blue eyes looking up at you, pearly teeth dragging across your skin in a way that never failed to draw the prettiest noises right from your chest. Your poison was the ever confusing relationship you had made with your friend Abby. It was sneaking to corners with her when you were annoyed, it was cutting off friendly conversations with very unfriendly kisses.
You never talked about it after, when you woke up calm again, pressed into her chest and sore all over. She didn’t bring it up, you didn’t push. That was part of the routine. The uncomfortable silence that followed, the stomach that turned inside you until someone finally broke the wall in between you, talking like you were just two friends again.
Part of swallowing down your favorite drink to use as escapism was ignoring the way your heart was pricked by thorns every time she called you baby. The dryness in your throat that came to when you found yourself not wanting to leave her bed was swallowed away by your own evil thoughts, whispers saying you couldn’t ruin the friendship.
But hadn’t you already? When your routine became sneaking from your room clad in only her favorite shorts and a shirt you stole from her, into Abby’s room— hadn’t that ruined it? The first time you two began whispering back and forth about your bunk mates being gone on what days, didn’t that break the thinly ried string that held you back from becoming more than friends?
You didn’t like to think about that. No, your mind became too loud when you did. Loud enough to draw you back onto your feet, and push through your door. It was dizzying enough of a thoight that you searched for your comforting routine, and ended up back at her door.
She always answered, eyes searching over your own as she pressed the frame open more. She always let you in, clinging to her own favorite tradition, you.
“Hey.”

Looker and Anabel's Pokemon
Due to the fanfic Neither Black Nor White on AO3 (Rated Mature), I was thinking about my headcanons for Pokemon husbandry and what it takes to keep such amazing, unique, and uniquely costy creatures, especially in the terms of Anabel.
Looker is pretty simple since he only has Croagunk, but a good reason he has another Croagunk after his last one's passing is that he's well aware of the species and how to properly care for one.
Tumblr media
An old piece but Looker wears safety gloves when handling this species. Not just to protect himself from the poison that seeps from its body fairly naturally (even if it's in very low doses) but mostly because amphibians are very porous. Gloves that do not irritate its skin and are frequently washed are something Looker has for the lil guy. He also is well aware of how Croagunk's poison/venom works: in very low doses from a Poison Jab it can safely knock down a fully grown person to put them in a drowsy state. It can even be reworked for medicinal purposes.
Beyond that he's well aware of the environment Croagunk needs to thrive. Regular water misting or splashes in bodies of water keep the frog's skin moist, but Croagunk isn't too hard to maintain due to the body size and species.
The real tricky person is Anabel.
Tumblr media
Now still on Looker's side, Anabel has given him (forced onto him, really) shared custody of her Riolu/Lucario in my headcanon. He's been learning how to take care of such a Pokemon, which is actually quite a simple species due to being a loyal canine. I don't believe Pokemon eat processed kibble, but Lucario can eat a diet similar to a human except with more of a meat/eggs focus. (And no chocolate, I don't believe the Lucario Movie in the slightest.) Unlike Croagunk, doesn't need a special place to sleep or regular skin moistenings.
Now firmly on Anabel, we have from order of obtainment: Snorlax, Alakazam, Raikou, Latios, Entei, Weavile, Mismagius, Salamence, and (Shared Custody)Lucario.
Having a Munchlax/Snorlax starter ALONE sounds costly enough. It's known to be a gluttonous Pokemon, so it's already expensive by itself. Anabel thankfully has a plan. International Pokemon League Societies provide benefit for trainers: things like access to specialized food, items, and certifications based on the level trainer someone is. (This is why you can only buy Ultra Balls after certain amount of accomplishments.)
So Anabel has special nutrient rich Snorlax food that keeps it happy. Snorlax as a species tend to fall under "you are what you eat" so if they eat low energy vegetation they'll need a lot, versus high protein/calorie food products that get processed easier into energy. Snorlax also enjoys restaurants that also serve the Pokemon, as it can enjoy human-based food as treats.
Alakazam and Weavile are simple diets like Lucario and Croagunk. Mismagius doesn't need to eat but can "ingest" a treat if she wants to. Salamence needs more due to size but can eat fruits, root veggies, eggs, and meat.
And then there is Raikou, Entei, and Latios. Two big cat carnivores and one long-migration Pokemon, all legendaries. There is not enough information about this Pokemon, and people who train legendaries are but a handful. Anabel needs a properly licensed certificate alone for Salamence and Snorlax. She needs a VERY SPECIAL certification and Trainer ID to even allow for her rare, precious, and intense legendary creatures-- and to prove that she can take proper care of them.
They are like endangered species mixed with cryptids, and their diets can be specialized. Thankfully, however, Latios is easy to feed with a similar diet to Salamence except with less meat. He often finds food on his own, however. Raikou and Entei can have meat at home, but would much rather hunt for their own food. That being said, they also seem to gain energy from volcanic activity and thunderstorms, as they are still a rather mystical species. Anabel is weary about letting them hunt for themselves, because they fall under an invasive species or something akin to letting your cat be an outdoor cat so that it kills all the birds in the area (Not cool. Stop making your cat an outdoor cat.)
But if anything, Latios, Raikou, and Entei are very, very intelligent. They don't overhunt; they take what they need from the earth and repay it. They rely on the energy of the planet as well as the energy of their diet, so they are three independent Pokemon that keep themselves fed.
Even so, with International Police and the League Associations, Anabel can breathe easy that she's not breaking the bank just to keep her Pokemon fed. Just as long as she's following regulations and providing research info on rare species, a lot of her food costs as subsidized or her Pokemon are taken care of when she uses the PC to send them over to a general caretaker.
Burnet and Wicke in Alola provide free health screenings on her Legendaries as they are the only ones Anabel trusts, and they want to work with such increadible Pokemon!
And that's what I have in terms of Pokemon husbandry. It can be rather difficult to upkeep such increadible creatures without extra help, so this is probably why so many people have one or two Pokemon that are considered more pet-like than anything.

there are some things that are missed/ignored in the narrative of mbav.
in both the movie and the show, there's hardly anything "deep" in the story being told outside of "defeating evil with the power of love and friendship", which is a great message, but there's something people overlook. very easily. a lot of children's media have its central theme based on the power of friendship, reforming the darkness of a monster's wild nature, love and hardships and downfalls, compassion, learning to be better, and none of those are themes mbav skips out on.
i wanna talk about love and hardships and darkness for a second.
we all know what the metaphor between sarah and jesse stands for; he robs her of her innocence and forces her to choose between obedience and death. jesse stalks sarah, preys upon her, and doesn't care if her mortal body is unsuitable for his curse, and even at the end of the movie sarah is helpless to fight off her vampirism, her responsibility to take care of herself, her poison. these are things even benny and ethan can't fix, they just let her handle that on her own throughout the first season.
jesse does not love sarah, and sarah resents jesse even during his "reformation" arc in season two. turns out existing as a shadow in the mind of a 15 year old boy really does damage, or something similar. jesse still believes that vampirism will save her, and forces her to choose his path, to feed into his urges, become part of his future that sarah never once wanted to dive into. she does it to save ethan, her trusted friend who doesn't necessarily benefit from visions the way erica benefits from her vampirism or benny benefits from his magic. if there is one thing to be kept "pure," to be kept from having to make the same choices she was forced into, it is ethan.
and people miss this. people don't get it, or at least they see it as plot instead of reality.
when sarah is manipulated by a representation of pressure and non-consent, and has to save her only friend who understands her desire to keep her mortality from her abuser's violation, what do we learn from this? when erica, her friend, and fellow victim, revels in her decision to accept their doomed reality, is it an unseen tragedy? when a young girl is in a relationship with a man who does not love her, who forces her to choose death (silence) or poison (ridicule), who benefits from his world of vampirism (admiration, financial success, etc), what do people not see in them, what is so prominent in the media they are a fan of? what do they miss? what do they ignore?
in this case, "friendship defeating darkness" and keeping the sanctity of someone's integrity, of their worth as a human being, is as simple as allyship with victims. it is that simple.
understanding the context and narratives displayed in mbav is not difficult if you understand right and wrong, even if it has nuances in everyday life you don't think about. supporting and listening to the victim, empathizing with their social digitalscape-exclusive brand of poison is not a chore, nor a challenge. even if the vampire can give you immortality and flight.
stop defending atticus mitchell.

You really do see the seeds of all the villainous backbiting grow and blossom slowly and inevitably.
Li Xun, by his very nature, brings out the worst in Gao without meaning to. He's brilliant and he's not shy about it and is not conciliatory - and honestly, if you think about it, why should he be conciliatory here? He does not need Gao, Gao needs him, he had no interest in the competition or saw any benefit to himself and he only agreed because ZY asked and he realized it's important to her (despite what painter idiot said, Li Xun is actually incredibly reliable as a quasi-boyfriend - which is not surprising seeing that he tried to take care of his whole family as a teen and the youngest.)
He is the one who is doing Gao a favor, not the other way around. But the thing is - Gao would be better off if Li Xun did not do him that favor and he lost on his own because it would be his own effort (and maybe he'd learn his limits as compared to others not just LX) but here even if they win, it's poisoned fruit to Gao.
ZY, without meaning to or realizing it, has made things between LX and Gao way worse - she is in no shape to care or mind that, she wants to avenge her dead friend by beating scumbag glasses guy - but Gao was getting at least somewhat more chill because he didn't have to be confronted with Li Xun being better and now it's back with a vengeance.
The thing is, Li Xun has terrible people skills and so I don't think he fully realizes what a thorough enemy he is making for himself, but he is also not wrong at all in saying the below:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
For most anyone else, this would not lead to enmity - they'd either be grateful that they have a chance to win/improve their profile/resume (think of the class president girl, this is totally how she'd think of it), enjoy learning from someone brilliant (how ZY would look at it), or whatever. But Gao is such a toxic mix of insecurity and superiority that this just goads him.
Li Xun does not owe Gao to coddle his feelings and all that but if he were more experienced he'd realize the potential fall out and guard against it. But both he and ZY are too young and inexperienced in different ways to realize what they are creating.

Darksiders: Death
In this post, I am starting my series of analyzing the Four Horsemen from the Darksiders series. I will be pulling from the games and Abomination Vault (canon debates aside, I thinking the book is well written and a bit more of a view into Death as a person). I will reference real world psychology terms and try my best to avoid using outdated terminology.
Trigger Warnings: references to abuse, manipulation, gore and body horror, mentions of incest, sexual assault
So, to discuss Death, we must first establish a baseline for who he is.
Death was a Firstborn Nephalim, said to be the most violent and powerful of their kind, having so close a relationship to their angel and demon ancestry. In fact, it could be argued Death and Absalom were the strongest.
It seems to be also, Death and Absalom were close, close enough that Death felt immense regret over the older man's demise, so it may be implied that Absalom had a hand in bringing up his fellow Firsts.
In Death we can see the cruelty that so clearly marks all Firstborns.
After conquering their first world, the home of the Ravaiim, Death suggested he and his brothers craft their own weapons using the skills of the Ravaiim.
The Ravaiim were akin to cousins of the Makers, but among the oldest Old Ones. A race so old that "the line between craftsman and crafter was blurred". The Ravaiim used flesh to craft their weapons and items, imbuing them with power too.
Death, being the closest thing his kin had to a crafter, set to work using the technique himself... With the Ravaiim themselves as parts.
Thus were born the Grand Abominations, weapons so vile that eventually even the cruel Nephalim found it necessary to lock them away. These world ending creations are/were alive in a way; they are semi-sentient, at least enough to know what was done to create them. Their creation poisoned the Ravaiim homeland and created a stinking place so grotesque, even Hell was considered nicer. The Abominations, due to their awareness of what was done to them, loathe all of Creation and people often feel uneasy around them. An undisciplined mind may go mad wielding one, purely from the hatred they possess.
These things were Death's idea, made under his instruction. This, along with the dozens of genocides he partook in over centuries, is enough to paint a starting point of who this man is and how far he is willing to go for self benefit.
Now, to contextualize his behavior, I believe it'll help us to use some psychology terminology. Death, in our terms, shows signs of antisocial personality disorder (ASPD). He shows a clear disregard for the safety of himself and others, a disregard for others feelings, and acts impulsively. He's prone to being manipulative, a liar, and seems prone to risk taking behaviors.
NOTE: This was once called sociopathy/psychopathy. THESE TERMS ARE OUTDATED AND NOT OFFICIAL DIAGNOSTIC TERMS. To many they may be considered offensive. People with ASPD do still experience emotions, but perhaps not the full range of emotions, a common one being empathy. This can result in cruel behavior, especially in children and teens, however therapy can be very helpful to individuals suffering from this condition. My reference here is not to diagnose this character, but to draw comparison and give an easier starting point into dissecting his personality and behavior. Do not go and demonize the people with ASPD over a post over a fictional character. I am simply trying to make this discussion simpler.
Now to start, I do fully believe Death is capable of genuine compassion and kindness, as shown in interactions he has with the Makers in particular. Its shown he experiences familial love with his reactions to Absalom's demise, and to War's imprisonment. It may also be seen in a small bit of Darksiders 3 with Fury's Nephilim's Respite flask, as he saw her penchant for trouble and chose to help make sure she didn't die from her own hubris.
However, despite his care for others, Death is not above using his own family for personal gains, even going so far as to nearly killing War for a plan of his. And he ends up not telling War the truth, leaving War believing he nearly died of his own failure, not because of Death's selfishness.
And ultimately, Death is selfish.
Death lies to people for his own benefit if he can get away with it. He lies through his teeth, or at minimum omits the truth. He keeps secrets because he is distrustful of others, even his fellow Horsemen. He also seems to view everyone else as idiots, insulting them and being needlessly mean.
I think maybe the reason he ends up helping the Makers so much is because they bite back. They banter with him and they're not afraid of him. They're there to help as long as he helps them. He's surprisingly honest with them too, telling him exactly what his intentions are. I think its safe to say that Death actually respects them to an extent, though Karn gets the brunt of his comments.
Back to his secrets, one of his biggest lies/secrets, in my opinion, is the Nephilim phylactery.
I don't think he hid the Nephilim souls out of guilt, not wholly. I fully believe he hid them with The Crowfather so he could find a way to bring them back one day. I think this because of his pause at the Well. He has the choice to bring them back and the only reason he doesn't is because of War. Even Lilith was convinced that he'd choose his dead kin over War, but he doesn't.
And War us truly where Death's snarky, uncaring half act breaks.
I'd say his choice to run off to gods know where to erase the crime War allegedly committed was extremely impulsive. Which, allow me to restate, HE WANTED TO UNDO A MASS EXTINCTION TO SAVE WAR FROM PUNISHMENT. He dove headfirst into his quest with zero regard for what was going to happen to himself. He jumps into the Well of Souls, sacrificing himself to bring back humanity and liberate his brother.
And what is it about War that makes Death so emotional?
We don't have a canon answer so far, but I do have to wonder at just how close they are.
I do possess a theory or two.
Theory One: Death is mildly obsessed with War as War is the youngest and last of the new Nephilim. War is a remnant of the last generation of their people and Death is keen on preserving his people in one fashion or another. War is very likely the first if them to speak against the violence of their people. War is violent himself, but not necessarily without cause, so I absolutely believe he spoke up first.
Two: Death views War as an innocent and naive boy. War is much, much more law oriented than the others, his angelic heritage shaping much of his views in seems. And to Death, perhaps, this is a sign of naivety and lack of experience. A baby to be shielded.
Three: Death raised War and sees him in a more parental manner. We don't know what raising kids was like for Nephilim, but I wouldn't be too surprised of it was a "everyone raises the young" over "parents raise their own". If that was the case, perhaps Death ended up watching War growing up more than he had other young Nephilim. That's not to say their " parent-child" bond would be healthy, clearly, but it would make sense as to why Death outright says he'd do anything to save War, and why he goes on a huge quest to revive humanity to save War. Why he ultimately sacrifices himself in the end too.
I do think that despite being incredibly self serving, selfish and arrogant, Death is ultimately self loathing. He hides his true thoughts under a thin veil of snark and dry humor, under anger and sharp words. In the book, he claims he never regrets his choices, only the execution, but I don't believe that. I do think he regrets creating the Abominations, not because of them necessarily, but because HE created something so vile.
I think he regrets killing the Nephilim because they were his kin and he was someone they all looked up to. Absalom trusted him and respected him. And he killed all of them because his beliefs had started to change.
And I firmly believe his mask isn't one of accessory. I think its a manifestation in a way of hiding from everyone.
After becoming Horsemen, Death runs away. Death hides from his brothers for ages before coming back to them in Abomination Vault.
He hides his feelings of self hate, guilt, and even affection behind snark, sarcasm, and cruelty. If he pushes others away, he needn't face the pain of their loss like he did with Absalom. But again... War is different. Before his descent into the Well, Death removes his mask.
The removal of his mask does seem to be a willingness to face forward and face the world. To face his future. I believe this for the fact that that room was the place where he metaphorically and literally faced his past, his demons. He finally let go of the Nephilim and his past with them. He let go of Absalom.
The Well is also where we seem him at his most vulnerable.
He defeats and lets go of Absalom, then goes to make his choice. Then he pauses and talks about getting to that point and still not knowing what to do. He sounds tired, broken, and like he's smiling to hold back emotions. The Crowfather consoles and councils him, and then Death makes him choice to help War by sacrificing himself and the Nephilim.
And taking off his mask is the most vulnerable he could be. He discards his physical mask, and likely in doing so its symbolic if him ridding himself of the metaphorical one.
Another character worth mentioning when discussing Death is Lilith.
Lilith, for context, is the "mother" if the Nephilim. She created Absalom first, but for all intents and purposes, she can be considered Death's mother.
Now, her tone when talking to him, in both game and book, is unusually... Flirty. And his reaction to her is visceral. He recoils and is tense, seemingly disgusted by her.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
These pages aren't exactly overt in what happened, but its very, very heavily implied that Lilith took advantage of Death and slept with him. Given his reactions to her, I dint exactly think he was very willing in these... Acts.
And further more, Lilith was actually counting on Death to resurrect and choose the Nephilim at the Well, as if he were the same Death she once knew, as if he hadn't changed. So I would be very, very unsurprised if she had sexually assaulted Death in some manner and abused him in other ways.
Overall it seems as if Death has had awful life experiences and copes by pushing others away and being angry. He's sarcastic and tends to not respond when called out (ie. Eideard asking "Isn't that what frightens you" when Death makes a snide joke about not having a soul).
In short, Death isn't a good person. He is a man shaped by horror and brutality and he struggles to adapt to new thinking, and struggles with emotion. However, I do think by the end of 2, he's changed for the better.

Why The Overhaul Arc Matters
Strap the FUCK in I just realized the actual narrative significance of the Overhaul arc.
Tumblr media
Eri-Tomura Parallel
At a surface level, Eri and Tomura have obvious parallels, right?
Visually, they look very similar with light hair and red eyes. Quirk-wise, they both have incredibly powerful, devastating Quirks that caused a fatal accident with their real families.
Eri hated herself because of the poison that Chisaki put in her head. Tomura hates himself for the same reason but with AFO.
They both were groomed to feel fully responsible for their traumatizing childhood accidents and for their only self-worth to be related to being useful towards their manipulative abuser and his goals.
Their parallels have been discussed at length by many people, so I'm not going to go into it except to say: no, they aren't literally blood related like some people argue. I also don't think AFO gave either of them their Quirks. Did AFO give Decay? Analysis Thread
Overhaul-AFO Parallel
That leads me to my next point: Overhaul and All For One are the same character.
As leaders, they prey on vulnerable people and buy their unquestioned loyalty (the Shie Hassaikai, Dr. Garaki, Machia, etc)
They will use these people for their purposes and then discard them at will, without any emotions or ethics to consider.
Their relationship toward their charge is NOT exactly parental. There is zero affection or even pretended affection towards Eri or Tomura and, in fact, others are doing their actual day-to-day care (various Hassaikai members, Kurogiri).
They speak in the same way to and about their charges. "You're a cursed human." "Another death on your hands." "Symbol of Fear" "You have within you the impulse to destroy that even you can't control." A huge part of their abuse is based in manipulating their charges to despise themselves and think they're inherently evil, so said charges give up on being a regular human. Further literary parallel: Claude Frollo in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Deku's Connection
AND FINALLY, my point: the Overhaul-Eri situation is directly responsible for Deku's current empathy toward Tomura and drive to save him. When Deku saw AFO take over Tomura and use his body for his own purposes during the war, especially with what he saw in the vestige realm, I think the parallel with Eri clicked.
Tomura is what would've happened to Eri if she hadn't been rescued. I fully think that if Eri had survived to adulthood without being rescued, Overhaul would have groomed her to live entirely for his benefit with full live-or-die loyalty for him (like the rest of the Shie Hassaikai, but stronger due to manipulation from childhood onwards). She would have grown to hate society for not saving her AND for being against Overhaul's goals. I honestly think she would've been even scarier than Tomura since Tomura at least had Kurogiri (who has been show to genuinely care for him on some level) rather than random gangsters as his primary caregiver.
Don't you see? It's all connected to Deku's endgame: pulling Tomura away from AFO and saving someone else who has been damned because of their Quirk and abuser. Of course, saving Tomura, a grown man who has committed A LOT of violence, is going to be much harder than saving a wholly innocent little girl, but the SEED was planted during the Overhaul arc.
I believe this is also WHY Deku chooses to see the Tenko that still lives inside Tomura.
Final Thoughts
This might be super obvious but I'd been scratching my head for MONTHS about how the Overhaul arc is significant to the narrative since the Quirk bullets storyline went nowhere and I'm not a fan of the "Eri rewinds the villains or the whole world!" take. I was so quick to discard the Overhaul arc as unimportant when the bullets didn't impact the story much, but I just completely missed the big picture.
I SAW the Eri-Tomura and Overhaul-AFO parallels but I couldn't quite figure out how the pieces went together beyond the surface parallel of two similarly abused children and two abusers. Understanding this connection also fixes what I had considered to be a huge logical plot hole in the story: why did Deku have a sudden 11th-hour change of heart and shift his focus from defeating Tomura to saving him?
Overhaul-Eri to AFO-Tomura is a direct link for Deku's endgame and the total themes of the story, I just couldn't see it before.

Chapter 16: Into the Shadows
You cannot keep your secret to yourself for long, and you find yourself forced to survive on your wits as you wait for the wrath of Princess Ase to fall on your head. Meanwhile, as you flee for your life, Loki finally stands up for himself, and for his future family.
Pairing: Prince Loki x Concubine!Reader Rating: 18+ ONLY (Minors DNI) MASTERLIST HERE **Please reblog if you like it!**
Content Warning: Threat and mentions of assault, eventual smut, indentured servitude and sex slavery, mean people being mean, violence, executions, more warnings likely to come
Tumblr media
“There you are, girl. You need to learn some sense of direction. You’ve been here longer than I have! Honestly, what the Prince found in you must have been purely physical,” said Ase as you re-entered her bedchamber hours later. Noma was brushing her mistress’ hair as Ase sat at her vanity: a nightly ritual that was typically reserved for you.
“As you can see, I’ve had to find an alternative,” she continued, lowering her voice. “But you can go to bed now, Noma. I need to have a word with this one anyway.”
Noma curtied silently, giving you a quick look of sympathy as she walked past you and to the dormitory. You immediately took the silver brush from the vanity and continued to gently stroke Ase’s fine, platinum hair with it.
“I’ve had a discussion with my intended,” Ase began. “And we are both in agreement that it would be best if you were relieved of duty and sent back to Vanaheim after our wedding.”
You nodded silently, trying not to betray yourself with any facial expression, especially as Ase could see your face perfectly in the mirror.
Ase raised an eyebrow. “If you go quietly, I will send you with a small pension to Capital City, and have an apartment arranged for you so that you won’t have to live in squalor. I will have some of my own servants tend you for as long as you like, and on my command.”
So she does mean to poison me. She wouldn’t send her own slaves away for my benefit.
“Mistress is kind,” you said softly.
“I know you were looking for him just now,” Ase warned. “I thought we had an agreement, Y/N.”
“Yes, my lady. It will not happen again.”
“I normally punish such blatant insubordination, but I understand that having you whipped would upset my groom, so I will agree to leave it at this admonishment, for now, as long as it is strictly understood that were there to be any further offenses, you won’t see the same mercy bestowed twice.”
“Yes, my lady.”
“Good.”
As if she were covertly punishing you while making it look like kindness, Ase made you stay up very late that night and take supper with her while she talked about trivial things. She asked you details about Loki that she could use to curry favor with him. Meanwhile, your bladder was nearly bursting by the end of the night, full of tea from needing it to stay awake. You were certain that you and your Mistress were the only two left awake in the palace.
“I’m having a garden built,” Ase mentioned. “As a wedding present to the Prince, but I am not sure where it should go.”
Subconsciously, you were far away from Ase’s supper table. The words, the feelings, the moment of pure emotion you’d traded with Loki hours ago when he declared that he was happy about the little newcomer he’d sired, was giving you a sense of revitalization, and it made you feel a little stronger against your intimidating Mistress. It was a bond you would now always share with him that this glowing lamp post of a princess would never have. Even if your head ended up on the block, it was a small victory to hold close to you in the moment as a source of rejuvenation.
So much of this still seemed impossible to you. There was no way Loki could permanently leave Asgard to live with you. Not with being the literal Prince, about to be married to a literal Princess. Yet he seemed to be certain that you could be a family of three in spite of the star-crossed situation, but even if you successfully slipped away to Vanaheim, living there successfully with an Asgardian, especially the infamous Snake Prince, would not be easy, or comfortable, to execute.
Aunt Ing could hide us in the Temple with her, you thought. It would be difficult to conceal a Prince from the world, but not impossible, especially with my crafty aunt aiding us.
“You must be quite sickly,” Ase mumbled.
“My lady?” you asked, snapping back to the moment before you.
“You haven’t taken any wine,” she explained. “You’ve been ill since I brought you to my apartment. Don't think I’m incapable of noticing things in between wedding gown fittings and pondering table placements. You’re slow.”
You shrugged. “I’m still acclimating to the change in environment, my lady. Vanaheim’s air is much thinner.”
“Six months after arriving?” Ase narrowed her eyes, hyper-focusing on you, and it was all you could do not to touch your belly or indicate that anything was wrong at all.
Finally, Ase released you to bed, and after you saw to her comfort (the pampered palace brat), you crawled into you own little trundle, turned onto your side, and felt the tears come as you cradled your stomach, trying to feel any sort of connection to the growing princeling. It was remarkable to you how far along you already were, and yet you were only showing a small protrusion, and you couldn’t feel so much as a twitch within to indicate any sort of new life was present.
Perhaps the healer made a mistake, and this is all for naught?
No, you decided. Other parts of your body hurt too much. Your prenatal illness was undeniable, as well as the insatiable hunger that countered every moment when you weren’t retching. The baby was there, albeit too small to be detected.
Or, am I just imagining it being so small?
You hadn’t even looked at yourself in a mirror since getting the diagnosis. Perhaps you would in the morning…
…alas, sleep evaded you (unsurprisingly). You struggled for hours, tossing every which way, disturbing little Bruna on the pallet next to you and, at one point, causing her to wake and ask out of mild concern “Are you ill again, Y/N?”
“No…a nightmare,” you said quietly. “Go back to sleep, Bruna.”
By the time the pre-dawn light was peeking in through the linen curtains nearby, you’d given up nearly entirely, and got up, sneaking to the small washroom you shared with the two other lady’s maids. It was, of course, much simpler than Ase’s large, lavish bathroom (and Loki’s even larger bathing pool, which could easily fit fifty bodies with plenty of room for all), but it was still grander than anything you’d seen back in Vanaheim. The basins were still plated in silver, matching the trim climbing the corners. The bath was large enough for two of your frame, and a floor-to-ceiling mirror lined the wall by the sink.
You unwrapped your nightgown and let it fall to your ankles. Your eyes fell to your reflection, and then couldn’t be drawn away again.
Oh my Norns…
You were a little larger than you thought, but was it the mirror warping your perception, or reality? Your lower lip began to tremble with disbelief and fear as you ran your hands over yourself. The three fitters had been right. You’d already undergone noticeable weight gain, and it wasn’t from the “rich Asgardian food.” Your posture was a little taller as well, as if compensating for the new, heavier shape.
Loki actually finds this sexually attractive? you scoffed. I don’t understand. It’s clearly a “male thing.”
On the plus side, your hair was a little longer and thicker. Your skin had a healthy glow in spite of your repeated attacks of nausea, and even a little tint of pink that hadn’t manifested since you’d come to Asgard.
You’d never given thought to the idea of becoming a mother. Not really. You were attractive enough, but once the boys in Borgund got to adulthood, they always chose someone who had a bit more potential than a barmaid like yourself to cleave to. Lowly tavern wenches weren’t traditionally seen as marriage material, let alone parent material. Accepting your lot, you decided to never even entertain the idea.
As if seeing what your pregnancy truly looked like for the first time triggered some sort of dose of pessimism in your mind, you began crying softly. No. he can never be yours, even with his child inside you, you told yourself. He will marry Ase, and odds are, he will never meet this one.
Once you got home, you’d immediately need to find work and a place for you and the Little Loki to live.
Stieg could help me with--oh, no, he couldn’t. He lives and works in the palace!
No matter how the dice fell, it resulted in the same thing. No matter how easy or difficult it would prove to be to sneak out of Asgard undetected, and without Ase sending agents to poison you, you would be alone in this. Entirely alone.
So this was what “being in trouble” meant.
“Well, Lokisson,” you whispered, cradling your abandonment, sighing with sadness, “perhaps you’ll have his strength of will, and you will make it.”
“I see my suspicions were correct…”
Your heart immediately fell into your stomach as Ase’s voice called out behind you. Reflexively you dropped to your knees, gathering up your nightgown in a vain attempt to cover yourself.
“Lokisson, dear? I knew it,” Ase spat angrily. “I had my inkling last night, but decided against my suspicions. Pre-wedding paranoia, perhaps, but not this time! You little, stupid whore who couldn’t even take her tea! And now for your disgrace, you must die.”
Panic quickly set in, and your skin went cold. “My lady--”
“--I am tired of giving you chances and mercies, little girl!” Ase barked. “Even for the sake of my Prince, I am through! It isn’t as if I would have any choice in this matter to speak of, but even if it were my choice, I would gladly make the same decision!”
“MERCY ON THE CHILD, PLEASE!” you shrieked as Ase bent down beside you, grabbing a fistful of hair and using it to drag you to your feet as you screamed.
The elf stood at her full height, towering over you and exercising every inch to her advantage. “Filth! That creature is not worth my effort! It’s refuse, like you, and the Allfather will certainly agree!”
In that moment, something else overcame your humility. Something that made your blood run hot. Something that made sweat immediately bead onto your skin. Something that made you want to fight.
Have courage, little princess…
The moment you heard Stieg’s voice in your mind, your brief burst of adrenaline guided your arm as you swung it at Ase’s face, your hand in a fist. “NO!” you shrieked. “I am not refuse!”
As it made contact, you expected more pain from the blow to radiate back into your arm, but you only felt a momentary sting against your knuckles as Ase’s face took the hit, sending her spiraling to the side, barely able to stay on her feet.
In the single moment she was absorbing the punch, you took off like a shot, bolting away and out of the suite. I need to get to the garden…it’s my only sanctuary…
From not far behind you, you could hear Ase screaming. “GUARDS! GUARDS! SHE’S ATTACKED ME! SHE’S JEALOUS OF ME! GET HER!”
You picked up your pace, gripping a column for balance as you swung around the corner a little too quickly, nearly losing your footing. The occasional guard or noble looked to you as you dashed by, but as far as you could tell, only Ase was in pursuit.
In a momentary lapse of judgment, you’d made a wrong turn, and by the time you felt safe enough to duck into a corner to catch your breath, you realized you’d only moved further away from Loki’s apartments, and by now, there were bound to be sentries combing the busier hallways for you.
You couldn’t possibly get to your own old chamber, nor to the archives. Was there anywhere you could go?
The corner you sheltered in was deep in shadow, and you turned around only to realize it was a hallway, dusty and clearly out of use. You couldn’t see what was beyond the few feet in front of you, but as footsteps in the larger corridors became more frantic, you decided that taking your chances down this mysterious passage was less-threatening than exposing yourself to the light again.
Cautiously, with nothing but pure fear in your heart, you began walking further into the shadows.
Tumblr media
“Ase, there are sentries everywhere, flooding the hallways,” Loki burst into his fiancee’s apartments, where she was pacing back and forth, her white skin reddening with the stress. “They’re all looking for her. What in Norns is this?”
“Your little breeding bitch assaulted me!” Ase growled, still holding her cheek.
Loki only raised an eyebrow in response, adding, “An impressive hit. My many physical activities with her have made her strong.”
“You knew,” she immediately accused, throwing a finger in his face, her eyes shooting invisible daggers. “About that girl’s baby!”
Loki gritted his teeth. “Of course I knew.”
Ase almost let out a laugh. “Oh, you surely didn’t think there’d be a way--did you? Were you hoping she was your way out of your destiny?”
“No,” he replied, his voice unfaltering, “She became my way into it.”
The angered Princess-to-be began to circle Loki, who refused to break eye contact with her, as if daring her to blink first.
“Loki, we are BOTH tethered to this fate,” Ase said, her words filled with bitterness. “Why do you blame me for doing what is expected of me?”
“Because I am through with it. All of it,” Loki sneered, finally stepping into Ase’s path, blocking her. “I am through with my Fathers unjust edicts and expectations. I am through being told that a drink and a fuck will solve my melancholia. I am a Prince, and I am finally going to get what I want. I want a life that is MINE!”
The Princess grabbed his arm. “You aren’t even thinking of the wider ramifications of this, Loki,” she hissed defensively. “Our kingdoms’ alliance will crumble. My family will look upon this as an insult to my honor, as well as theirs, and they will NOT settle for anything less than a war!”
This gave Loki pause for the first time.
Ase continued. “My father’s arsenal has grown tenfold since our contract was signed. You may think your Valkyries are fierce, but our soldiers outnumber them twenty-to-one! Thousands of Asgardian innocents will die.”
“Is that a dare, then?” The Prince, still steadfast in his resolve, was hiding the growing chill crawling through his veins.
She shook her head. “It’s a fact.”
“Well, then we can still solve this like rational beings: marry Thor. He would bring more honor to you, and I could leave you to your own devices!”
“Absolutely not,” Ase refused without missing a beat. “In fact, the way I see it, passing me off to that odious lout would be an equal affront.”
Loki let out a chuckle. “Do you not see that I care not one whit for you, nor your honor? Ase, if we marry, you will be worth less to me than the trinkets on my mantle. If we have a child, I will not be able to see it as anything more than another shackle you’ve put about my ankle. We would both be sentenced to thousands of years wallowing in pure misery. Now, that seems to be a life you are resigned to, but I will never ignore my heart’s rhythm again.”
“It doesn’t matter how many insults you throw in my face, or how many threats you offer. The fact remains, Loki, that we are to marry and Y/N is to die. Any other conclusion will result in destruction for Asgard.”
Turning away and opening the door, Loki decided that he was talking to a brick wall. “I will find her first,” he vowed. “And to Hel with Asgard!”
Tumblr media
A small cupboard, barely big enough for you to lie on the floor, curled up, was all you could find in the musty old passageway, but when your life was at stake, and you had no other choices, you made yourself a nest out of your outer robes and some dish rags that you found hanging against the wall.
There also happened to be a box of candles, which kept the tiny room illuminated for the few bursts of time you were awake for the next twelve hours. However, most of the time, you found yourself dozing off, your daydreams infinitely more luxurious than your reality. Fortunately, as the adrenaline from the chase ebbed, combined with the influx of hormones your newcomer was pumping into your body, sleep was not as difficult to come by as you’d thought.
You were rudely awakened by one pair of footsteps slowly creeping towards the closet. Without lighting another candle, you put your ear against the door, hoping they would miss the room and go on.
“Come on…come on…”
Your heart leapt at the sound of Stieg seeking you. Immediately, you got up and jumped into the hallway. “Stieg! Stieg! Oh thank--”
You barely had time to react when you felt Stieg’s strong arms grapple you, and a large hand cup over your mouth.
“--I’ve found you!” he said, his voice abnormally deep and husky. “Don’t say a word. I’m not alone, but the others didn’t want to roam down here.”
You bit his finger, and it was all he could do not to yelp as he let go of your mouth. “You came with others?”
“To take you back to Ase to face your fate, Y/N,” he said quickly.
“Traitor!” you accused, right before Stieg was able to wrap a cloth around your mouth to keep you quiet.
Stieg shushed you. “Y/N, you are going to have to listen to me well, for this is the very last chance we have to spare your life, and it’s not going to be easy to execute.”
Ugh, execute is a poor choice of words, you thought.
“No matter what happens when we enter the Princess’ chambers, you must go along with what I do, like it’s a play. You understand?”
You tried to speak through your gag, but you couldn’t communicate your confusion properly. You could only shake your head and shrug.
“Fight me the entire way, but don’t escape,” Stieg instructed. “Then, as I said, respond to everything I say as if it isn’t artifice. I promise, if we can do this, you will be safe in Vanaheim by morning.”
You wanted to believe your companion, but something about the uncertainty in his voice wasn’t assuring you of anything.

FMAB discussion (continued):
Roy Mustang. I love how his character is borderline villain, yknow? Like how he’s clearly a hero but his ability to follow orders and common sense makes him deadly and vaguely evil. But also he’s the good guy so like. Hdhfbebsjfjdjnajd his character is amazing and unique!! Idk that a see a lot of people like Roy. And the way that he does everything, calculated to a T, and the way he has Riza keep him in check???? Ndjfnend just. Fabulous
And then Riza is amazing, I love how she follows Mustang’s orders but she was never just a soldier, she was sharp and like. That cunningness was something that she never dropped. Like even just standing there, you felt like she was acutely aware of everything. Roy treated her like his equal, and used her status as his subordinate to protect her, to the best of his abilities. He did that with his whole team, and I love how much Roy loves and respected them. Like he really is a great leader, intelligent and compassionate and empathetic.
(Also, on the subject of choosing Legend whump details…how about like, poison? Poison and something to do with difficulty breathing/ coughing up blood/broken ribs. Is that okay? Is that too many? Feel free to change them if you need/want to :3 thank you so much im so hyped :333 <3)
YESSS HE’S SUCH A GOOD CHARACTER. I’m with you. I don’t see many like Roy. He’s built like an antihero and yet he’s…not. He’s committed atrocities yet keeps going to ensure no one ever does such things again. And his cold ambition is used for that purpose and not for his own benefit. At the end of the day he’s…kinda a dreamer. And an optimist??? A calculated optimistic dreamer?? Like how does that even add up?? 😅 He’s very complex and multifaceted and never ceases to surprise me. I love him so much
Oh I LOVE Riza!! Like Roy she honestly just kept surprising me. Her cold calculating, her intelligence and cunning, her skill, but also her kindness and sensitivity. One moment she’s a cold blooded killer and the next she’s giving Ed advice like a cool aunt or something 😅 And her and Roy’s relationship is everything to me.
Roy really is a great leader! That’s another thing about him that kinda baffles me. He seems like he keeps everyone at a distance and yet here’s this team of people who would die for him but he’d never allow them to. He cares deeply for them…so much so that Bradley knows he’ll falter without his little found family
(About the Legend whump…you choosing those tropes makes me so happy you’ve got no idea. I LOVE the poisoning trope. And to get to combine it with other forms of whump? AWESOME. The more pain the better XD So YES absolutely ok! I’ll get started! I’m so excited!!)

Something clicked again. Look at Edelgard's description of herself when the player has to pick a class to teach.
Edelgard: Me? Well...some think I'm a bit distant. Arrogant, even. But there's little to be done. One day, I must rise to become Adrestia's next emperor. What else... Well, it seems to me that we may have similar personalities.
Look at that second sentence, she thinks Byleth has a personality similar to hers. This, sort of foreshadows their A support, where Edelgard says that Byleth is distant. Byleth can disagree, with Edelgard insisting that they are, or Byleth can say the same to Edelgard which she agrees with. She really wants Byleth to be like her, but she says her distance from people is because of the experiments done to her. Byleth's initial distance is because...Jeralt kept them away from people, and we saw how this was changing through teaching at Garreg Mach.
But look at Byleth's profile page. Interests include listening to and helping people while liking swords, reliable allies, being trust and, in the Japanese text, smiles. Does that sound like a distant person to you? Likewise, the Byleth presented in Engage is pretty humble all things considered whereas Edelgard above calls herself arrogant.
We could say that Byleth becomes like Edelgard in Flower, including adopting Edelgard's views on their Nabatean heritage and unquestioningly following the path they've chosen even as everyone calls them out on it, but that would just signify how Byleth ultimately fails. They were supposed to guide their students, instead they were seduced and manipulated into going to the dark side by the Emperor. It would also fit with Edelgard being tied to the Devil arcana, symbolic of corruption, through Amyr being a weapon made specifically for her.
But...arrogance. A large part of Buddhism is supposed to be dethroning the ego. Ego and attachment, the poison symbolized by birds, are said to go hand-in-hand. The concept of ego is that we start things as absolutes, a board with four legs attached is always a table for instance and a table is always a board with four legs. But that just limits our ability to fully grasp the world, there are three legged tables out there as well as six legged ones.
The fact that Edelgard sees her path as the only option is symbolic of her ego and attachment. Even when confronted with information contrary to her views, she's not going to change. According to Hubert, Edelgard is supposed to know that her father was a puppet of Thales and it was Thales who was behind the experiments and the murders of her siblings. Despite this knowledge, a few events later she's telling Byleth the secret knowledge her father passed down to her about why the Church is evil. She says Nemesis was a good guy despite Thales, the guy pulling her father's strings, saying he was a thief.
That history is supposed to be what informed Edelgard's ideals, believing the teachings of the Church were meant to keep people weak, so Edelgard refuses to let it go. When challenged by Dimitri on her ideals, she insists the war was the only way to change things. Her goal is to make people stronger through her reforms, so that they rely on their own strength rather than on others, and no matter how many she sacrifices more people are supposed to benefit from it. Dimitri calls it out as a system for the strong, to which Edelgard says that if it doesn't work it's because of the faults of the people. And it's these ideals that are supposed to lead to her Hegemon Husk form, her becoming stronger in order to defeat Dimitri to rule the world.
It's made out that her ideals don't benefit the people. Hopes makes it very clear that her reforms oppress the commoners while coddling the nobility, so much so that the Western Kingdom lords want to join her while Dimitri is trying to give power to the commoners like his father did before him. Those same lords also worked with Thales and killed Lambert over it, to which Thales says it was for Edelgard's benefit while she says it had nothing to do with her. Her ending in Houses is supposed to be her consolidating power on herself while stripping the nobility of theirs, all in order to make a society where people wouldn't rely on others according to the Japanese text. That is after Edelgard needed to subvert her claims of meritocracy by taking credit for Byleth's leadership, how Hubert needs to put down threats from the shadows, how she needs TWSITD to maintain the peace until she can steal their tech to do the same thing, needed Petra to keep Brigid from supporting the Church, or Ferdinand to figure out ways to make her ideas work. She can give that big speech against Rhea all she wants, but in the end it's opposed to the beliefs she started this war over and she doesn't change what she intends to do. Her Hegemon Husk form is supposed to personify those ideals. The end of the path as a beast unit after Japanese Dimitri called out her path as that of the beast.
Edelgard isn't like Claude, able to accept that her views are wrong and go about things in a different way. If Hopes!Claude is supposed to be how Claude would have been without Byleth, it just serves to contrast the sheer amount of growth he underwent in Verdant Wind.
Or you look at the justification for working with TWSITD in the first place, she needs their support to topple the Church of Seiros. But then we get Hopes, where she breaks things off with them and realizes how much influence they had on the Empire. So what does she do? She continues with her plan to wage war for these ideals.
She says this war is for a meritocratic society, but takes credit for others while rewarding the likes of Caspar (leading to an “often out of control” Imperial army in his Japanese endings) and Bernie (a general who gets scared and tells her men to fend for themselves), while nobles have easier access to positions of power. She says this is about a world for humanity, but is willing to turn herself into a monster to rule it. Not to mention turning people into monsters... I mean, “war assets.” That it's for the good of the commoners regardless of how many she sacrifices or oppresses, and if they don't benefit it's their fault. For all the talk about false history, she's not above creating false narratives to garner support for herself. Not to mention how her version of history was fed to her by Thales' puppet, with Thales himself saying the goal was not to create a powerful emperor to rule Fodlan but to give salvation to the Agarthans.
She says the war is always necessary, but at this point what is she really fighting for other than conquest and centralizing power on herself?
Ego is your sense of self, which can result in being unable to adapt. Arrogance is ego on the next level. Edelgard calling herself arrogant is a warning sign as she's unwilling to alter her path, to call off the war, no matter what changes. You can lead her to the truth and rub her nose into it, she won't learn a thing. That's what her fatal attachment is, the poison that prevents her from achieving her own form of enlightenment.
Which isn't to say that she had no choice, that she was a slave to these ideals. She did have a choice no matter how much she says otherwise. She just chose not to do the right thing because she's convinced that she's right, much like many players who decide to join her. There was always a choice, a means to get out and see things for what they really were, and it was her choice not to take those options. It was her decision to hurt others, to walk a path of hadou (as confirmed by her S support), and that's why she is the villain.
The fact that some players will accuse her creators not understanding her or the story shows their own arrogance.

To My Touchstarved MCs
How smart is your MC? Did they have an education? Self taught? A mentor? What things do they know?
Would they get swindled or know the answer for algebra?
I’ll start:
Monet:
While not having a formal education and being a thief, despite her looks, Monet is a huge bookworm. Stealing any and all books even when she was young to read and asking her parents or brother for help on big words.
Even when not reading, she has a vast knowledge of sewing and fabrics, whats a good fabric and whats bad, fake, how to be resourceful, etc.
she can also speak Chinese, English and a bit of french.
that being said, she's not big on anything technical work, especially dealing with math. she's very much for anything that lets her creativity and resourcefulness shine. It's a drag when she is forced to learn something she doesn't want to learn of.
Rosamie:
Having a formal education from her teacher, (when said teacher wasn't drunk) Rosamie has a lot of cooking, forgaging and cursed object knowledge.
she knows the difference between an edible mushroom and a poisonous one, what flowers are good for eating and ones more for garnishes. Rosamie is very good at technical stuff, mostly when physics and gravity are involved, or not involved at all.
also makes food for animals, knows whats good for them and what's not, it's super cute uwu.
she does have a tendency to fall into her own mind while doing something, especially if it's second nature to her. Which can either lead to her own, or other's, injury if no one is careful.
Keiki:
Spirit training had allowed Keiki to see any and all spirits without hinderance, as well as the mortal plane itself. She can also see how certain channels connect to spirits and help or hinder them, like Ais and the red eyed people to the seaspring, glowing red to find any of them easier, almost like a beacon.
she has a basic education, reading, writing, etc.
Shes not as street smart as the other two, she'd prob get swindled by a small child if they were convincing enough or an old woman selling her something out of pity--
Still, she's not so naive to not call internal BS on something. Just tries to give the benefit of the doubt, sometimes, to her detriment.

Side story
Pairing-Neteyam /Reader
Warning in this chapter :mention of death, mention of war, mention of childbirth,
Summary - This story will tell you about a planet destroyed by humans even before the events of Pandora, about a girl who was captured and survived the loss of wings - an important attribute of their species, about survival, first love and human cruelty.
Pt1, Pt2,Pt3, Pt4, Pt5, Pt6, Pt7-1
Part Two
The Immis family lived quite quietly, Mrs. Immis-Heila was expecting her first child, she was nine months pregnant and was about to give birth to her first child. The day did not portend anything special, the fairies worked for the benefit of the village, someone helped the fireflies, someone made, in general, everyone is busy with their own business.Although everything was not so perfect - Heila felt that something was wrong, horror and longing had not left her consciousness since the morning, as if the great mother of Iieva wanted to tell her something. But Mrs. Immis decided that the reason for the excitement was pregnancy, her stomach had already sunk, which meant that the birth was approaching and now it was necessary to find a suitable place, which she was worried about at the moment. Her "place of birth" should be comfortable and quiet, the choice fell on several suitable flowers, namely Osius, a large flower with a bright bioluminescent glow and a simpler one, Lirius. The flowers of Lirius were medium-sized, but could accommodate two ilis, it did not glow like Osius, but was very cozy, its petals were extremely soft and ideal for a baby. The choice was obvious. As soon as the water receded, Heila flew to the chosen place, landed gently at the base of the "Lyrius" and settled herself comfortably. So far, so good, isn't it? I have to disappoint you..
There were some strange moving objects in the sky, many fairies looked with interest at the approaching "meteorites". Then no one could have guessed that the end was near. They went about their business, they had their own plans and dreams, someone wanted to confess to his beloved today, and someone was in a hurry to go home to the child. And it was all over in an instant. The heavenly people destroyed their Mother. Suddenly the world was plunged into darkness. The flowers began to die, withering and turning the once bright glades into an insensitive gray color. The water has evaporated, leaving lifeless rocks instead of once lively places. Heavenly demons came and destroyed everything. People killed, they shot old people, women and even children. They killed innocents, destroyed entire settlements, set fire to and poisoned the rest. everything was plunged into darkness, only heart-rending screams could be heard hundreds of kilometers away. It seemed as if the planet itself had uttered a death cry before irrevocably going out, forever remaining only a memory.
The birth was incredibly difficult, Heila was holding on with the last of her strength. She covered herself with a flower, hiding in the most secluded place. And outside, only the screams of dying fairies could be heard. The woman wanted to howl in despair. She understood that this was the end, the end for her people, for herself. The Great Mother is dead, and everyone else will die after her. Finally, a child screamed, it was a girl. The woman hugged the baby to her chest, smiling for the last time, tears flowed directly onto the newborn's face. While the girl was looking at her mother, not realizing that this was their last meeting. - I love you, my little firefly.. - Heila managed to close the baby in one of the buds, hiding it from human eyes.
Only over time, one of the soldiers will notice one still living bud in a pile of lifeless plants, from where a pair of bright blue eyes will look at him.
