starting to think maybe waking up with an anxiety stomachache every single morning and then needing to spend the entire day trying to get rid of said anxiety just to maybe have a few minutes in the evening of feeling relaxed before going to bed is perhaps not normal
#the first thing i do when i become conscious is check my phone to make sure nothing terrible happened to anyone i love while i slept#i never ever ever have plans and if anyone Else has plans i feel sick with anxiety until they’re back from them#if i have smth planned that week i feel completely tense and on edge until it happens#i didn’t used to be like this i hate hate hate it#i used to feel safe in my little house in the forest where i knew everyone in town and knew my way around with my eyes shut#it’s still the only place in the world i feel safe. that’s so unfair#my separation anxiety is ridiculous. if my mom goes to the store and doesn’t answer a text right away i start panicking#if my sister goes to a class or smth idk what to do with myself until she gets back#if i’m in the shower or have the fan on or headphones in suddenly i’ll think i hear someone shouting and i’ll have to quickly turn it off#ever since i moved here it’s been getting worse. i don’t feel safe here to begin with i feel so out of place it’s unreal#but then covid and trauma with my mother’s health and my uncle dying and multiple relatives getting sick and things happening to my friends#i know i have ptsd from very specific things that happened and i live on a hospital path so every day i hear sirens#and every time i do it fully triggers an anxiety attack in me for at least an hour. and my mom too#since being here my hometown burned and friends i thought would never grow apart did and my brother moved out#i know a lot of that is just Being In Your Low Twenties but also some of my worst trauma has happened in the last handful of years and now#now i’m just always scared. always uneasy. always worried. never fully relaxed. never feel fully safe. & idk how to be myself through that#i’m always paranoid and i never trust people irl anymore. ppl my mom or sister meet. i am so suspicious of them constantly.#if anything small changes at all i can’t handle it. my ability to deal with change has gone so downhill#in the last 5 years of being here i realised i was autistic which led to me unmasking a bit and that. comes with pros & cons doesn’t it#my own health has declined. my body changed a lot in ways i wasn’t prepared for and i had to get rid of most of my comfort clothes#sometimes i just wanna sit on the ground and cry about it and not have to also be the one that picks myself back up. y’know???#but at the very least i’d love to just wake up One Day w/o feeling sick with anxiety already. just one day i want to wake up feeling rested#i want to be myself again but can i start with not being scared? not being tired? i don’t know what to do anymore#i just watch my comfort videos and read my comfort fics and stay in my daydream world

[11:26 AM] + hero/villain au + "you think he'll stop? after what he did to you?" + part 6
part 1 part 2 part 3 part 4 part 5 part 6 part 7 part 8 masterlist
2k, hongjoong's pov for the first half but it goes back to y/n's! warnings for lots of cursing lol
-
kim hongjoong felt responsible for you. he'd seen you around when he was younger, but he hadn't truly known you until years after the Incident. you lived three streets down from him, near the park with the hydrangeas. he remembered this because he spent time in that park often with his parents, and later his friends. it was the best spot to hide whenever he and his friends wanted to smoke or drink before a party, or if he wanted to spend time alone with a date.
neither of you ran in the same circles. hongjoong smoked cigarettes behind the school next to broken CCTV cameras. you kept to your small circle and he never saw you at parties. hongjoong only cared about his music classes. you cared about your classes so much, you even went to supplementary after school classes. he hadn't known much about you in high school, aside from the fact that some time in ninth grade you were teased briefly for your tattered shoes. he never cared enough to find out if that escalated any further.
when hongjoong turned sixteen, he was used to screaming matches with his parents. he wasn't used to his powers. they came one day all at once, bursting from him one morning. he'd touched his toothbrush and it disappeared. he hadn't thought much of it that morning, assuming he had been severely hungover and dropped his toothbrush somewhere. but, when he came home late that night and his parents confronted him for missing classes, his emotions burst from him. he never knew what they had said to him in that moment, he only felt a rush in his ears and the feeling that his heart was attempting to burst out of his chest. when he woke up in an unfamiliar white room surrounded by people in white hazmat suits, he was told he wiped out his entire town.
when he returned to the spot where his home should have stood, after months of government-issued rehabilitation, all that was left was a crater where his hometown once was and his inability to figure out where the hell he put them. dimensional storage, he learned, was his power. he ran himself into the fucking ground trying to figure out which dimension he sent everyone.
his mentor insisted he go to university, try to live a life outside of trying to redeem himself, try to be happy. he'd obliged only because he respected his mentor. he didn't think it possible because he basically killed an entire town. hundreds upon hundreds of people. and that burden would live on his shoulders forever.
when he saw you in his first year calculus class, wearing the same tattered shoes he remembered you were teased for, he knew he had to speak to you.
you told him what happened, how you went to seoul for a supplementary class, and you'd missed the last bus home and had to spend the night at an overnight bathhouse. when you returned everything was gone. your parents, your home, every single thing was gone and all that was left was a giant crater filled with rubble. from there on out, you were left to fend for yourself.
"it was you, wasn't it?" you asked him, a few months later.
hongjoong tried to deny it, but you'd spent enough time with him to see past his facades. you'd leveled him with a frown and said, "i spent years trying to figure out what the fuck happened that night. the internet has everything, joong. besides, you and i are the only survivors."
hongjoong would always remember the guilt that lay heavy on his shoulders as he looked at you. he'd spent enough time with you to learn the consequences of his actions. you lost everything because of him. you'd gone hungry often and never quite had a home since that night. even now you worked multiple jobs to pay for university classes. because of him.
"it was an accident." he began, and to his surprise you didn't grow angry. you only sat and listened. it was more than he deserved.
when he disclosed his powers to you, you'd only picked up a rock off the ground, crushed it in your hands, showed him the dusty remnants, and said, "i assumed that was it. mine's not as cool as yours though."
from that day onwards, he felt responsible for you. he refused to let your applications to the hero-villain alliance go through. perhaps it wasn't his call to make, but he could not live with himself if you got hurt on the job because of him. not again.
eventually, he gave in, when he realized just how rundown you'd become from your multiple jobs and how often you spent weeks on his couch while searching for cheaper apartments, when he realized it wasn't his place to make such decisions for you. so he made a few calls, had your application bumped up, and made seonghwa, yunho, san, mingi, jongho, yeosang, and wooyoung swear they would not let you get hurt on the job.
it worked, until a year ago.
until he pulled you from the rubble and took in the burns wooyoung left on your neck.
until he had to face you in battle, your eyes looking right through him as he tried to speak sense into you.
until now.
"what the hell are they doing here?" san grits out the words, his gaze narrowing as he stares at the camera footage in front of him, at you standing at the front door of the alliance, your back ramrod straight and your knocking incessant.
hongjoong drags a hand through his hair, "we should let them in."
"and what if they go berserk on us the moment we do?" san bites out.
"what else are we supposed to do?" hongjoong turns a glare on san, "shoot them on sight?"
"maybe that's the best course of action."
"you don't believe that," yunho's voice is quiet, but it rings between them, his kind eyes on san.
san does not meet his gaze.
"just," hongjoong takes a deep breath, "get the chains, mingi. tranquilizers, too. hopefully, they cooperate. yunho, tell taeil to scout outwards up to radius five in case they're a decoy for someone else."
san stiffens at that. hongjoong just squeezes san's shoulder as he steps around him, "we outnumber them right now. don't worry."
"i'm not worried," san mutters, but his shoulders relax under hongjoong's touch.
hongjoong takes a deep breath as he approaches the door, the months and months of guilt that had accumulated while you were gone heavy on his shoulders.
~.~.~.~.~
you wake up to a bright light and the inability to move a single inch. your breath catches in your throat and you think, oh god, is this eunwoo's lab? and your chest feels tight with the thought, the very idea that you did manage to escape, that maybe you dreamt yeosang helping you escape, or wooyoung made due with his promise and has left you in eunwoo's clutches to do whatever experimentation he's wanted to do to you or -
"woah there, hey, it's okay."
the deep voice is familiar. kind. the touch on your arm is not cold like eunwoo's. you blink away your confusion, and your heart flips at the familiar face.
"mingi?" your voice cracks.
mingi smiles, but before he can say anything, the door behind him swings open and in walks san, his expression fixed into a tight glare. yunho eyes you warily, and he keeps a distance you don't blame him for. hongjoong enters last. his gaze flits over your form, assessing you quickly as he used to do. you've missed them. even as you assess your own situation, understand that you are strapped to a chair the same way you were when wooyoung and yeosang first kidnapped you, the relief swirling in your chest makes you want to cry.
you open your mouth to say something, anything, but you have no idea what to say. the guilt and fear and relief creates a lump in your throat you can't move past. you can't even remember the awful things you must have done to them. the distance makes you want to disappear.
hongjoong steps close, crouching in front of you, his gaze searching yours, and he simply says, "explain."
you tell him everything.
~.~.~.~.~
hongjoong drags a hand through his hair, "that's...a lot."
san hovers close, and though his hostility has lessened it's still there, still so potent, but you understand it because you'd watched him act that way before wooyoung and yeosang took you.
san's face is inches from yours, "how do we know you weren't ordered to come here?"
"you don't," you say, "but i left that pouch on purpose and yeosang risked his life to get me out of there and...and my word is all i can give you. i know -"
san cuts you off, "how do we know you won't try to finish the job the moment you're set free? i watched you kill those people, y/n." he jabs a finger against your chest and you wince when he touches the injection bruises, "that was all fucking you. how do we know what's going to come out the moment we test the words you gave us? how can you guarantee our safety in all this?"
his tone is accusing, and it only makes you feel worse. you glance at yunho, mingi, and hongjoong, but neither of them step towards you. only yunho looks away, closing his eyes.
"i don't know, i'm sorry," your voice breaks. the thought of having lost their trust and not being able to fix it breaks your heart.
"crying isn't going to help," san grits out, though he does step back a little.
"san, stop it," yunho pushes san's shoulder, dabbing at your face with a handful of tissues, his gloved hands noticeably hesitant. still, he powers through, frowning between you and san, "you don't need to be so hard on them."
"yes, i do," san snaps, "one of us needs to be hard on them, and i know it's not going to be any of you. i'm not letting us go through the same shit all over again."
you drop your eyes to the floor and yunho lets out an audible sigh, "hongjoong, please tell him to lay off."
you look up, meeting hongjoong's gaze for a long moment. his eyes are heavy with the same kind of guilt you've seen on him since the day you met him. an existential, bone-deep guilt you know he will always feel when he sees you. you remind him of his past, of his moment of weakness, of everything terrible he's ever done. he thinks you never notice the guilt, but you do. hongjoong looks away. he says, "san's not wrong. we need to be careful."
yunho rolls his eyes, and mingi sighs.
san opens his mouth, hands crossed over his chest, when he's interrupted by the high whine of a siren. it pierces through the room, startling all of you. yunho drops his gloved hand from your face. mingi frowns.
"it's a level one breach," hongjoong says, though you all know exactly what it is. you've had training on it, sure, but the last time you heard this exact siren go off was when wooyoung, yeosang, jongho, and seonghwa betrayed the alliance and wreaked havoc on the city. it means there's an attack on the city and it's predicted to be devastating.
your heart drops just as san spins on you and grabs your collar, "what the fuck is going on?"
"i don't know," you shake your head, "i really don't."
"now's not the time," hongjoong yanks san's arm off you, "we need to go to the debriefing room and figure out the threa-"
a loud, distant boom has hongjoong snapping his mouth closed, eyes widening. the floor quakes beneath your feet, your teeth chattering at the intensity of the trembles.
"oh fuck," yunho grips the table to steady himself, "we need to go. now."
another boom fills the silence, followed by screaming, loud and shrill.
"what about -"
an explosion echoes right above them and the room lights start to flicker. you flinch at the dust falling into your eyes.
"let me out."
san lets out a bitter laugh at your demand, "see? this is exactly what the fuck i was talking about. you just -"
"we can't just leave them down here." mingi snaps, "we're in the fucking basement, san."
"we should! do you think it's a coincidence that we're having a level one attack while we're all preoccupied with y/n showing up unannounced at our doorstep?"
"stay with me if you want!" you shout, "i just want to see wooyoung."
hongjoong swivels on his heels, meeting your gaze. it's the first time he's looking at you so candidly since you woke up and you nearly recoil at the intensity of it. "why do you want to see him?"
"to stop him."
"you think he'll stop? after what he did to you?" hongjoong grits his teeth and, for the first time, you can truly see how angry he is, how affected he is by everything. he never shows his anger so blatantly, but now it rolls off him in waves. the world is silent, eerily so, like the calm before a storm.
you resist the urge to recoil and look him dead in the eyes, "if i have to break every single bone in his body to stop him, then i will." you turn your gaze to san and repeat, "i will."
after a beat, san says, "i'm holding you to it."
you nod and he looks away.
"great, glad we got that figured out," yunho sighs, "now let's get the fuck out of here."
suddenly, a sharp creaking noise cuts through the eerie silence. the groan reminds you of a wailing whale, low and drawn out and a chill runs down your spine and straight to your toes. mingi yanks at your chains. you pull an arm free, just as there's another keening wail and suddenly -
"holy shit."
the entire building above you is gone. sunlight fills everything. at least, you believe it to be sunlight at first, until you realize just how bright it is. it's searing. hot, like the sun.
your eyes widen.
or like wooyoung.
"y/n, come on. get up."
you're yanked out the chair, ignoring the pain running up your leg when the chains scratch at your calf.
when you reach the ground, you cough around black smoke filling your lungs, your eyes widening as you take in the sight of wooyoung on fire, brighter than the sun, hotter, flamed wings surging from his form. below him marches an army of skeletons, dragging their bones as they lay siege on your city.
your heart drops to the pit of your stomach when wooyoung's eyes meet yours.

Out of the Woods - College!AU - PART 2
Tumblr media
A/N: Part 2! I hope you enjoy this chapter. No major warnings apply! Thoughts, feelings, predictions always welcome <3
***
After dropping you off that evening, Nikolai found his mind to be running a mile a minute. It was 1am, relatively early by college standards, but he had no desire to go back to the party and no desire to go home. Instead, he walked around campus until his feet throbbed. He thought about your smile and your laugh, the way you bit your lip and the way you toyed with the ends of your hair. He thought about how you could very well be in the arms of another man right now.
He could have lived without that mental image.
It seemed wild to him that you could make so many feelings flood back to him in such a short amount of time. It hit him like a ton of bricks the moment you locked eyes, and it was instantly like the last 5 years of silence never even happened. God, he wished they never happened. How could he have been so cruel? Who just up and left the person they were very clearly falling in love without a trace? Nikolai, that’s who. And under the penetrating glow of the moon, for the next six or so hours, Nikolai hated himself for it.
Nikolai quietly tried to sneak back into the apartment he shared with Aleks around 7am. Generally, he was a pretty heavy sleeper, so he figured it’d be no problem. As the front door clicked shut behind him, another door clicked open inside the apartment. Alina, clad in only one of Aleks’s shirts, exited his room and immediately jumped upon seeing Nikolai. He quickly averted his eyes and turned his attention to the ceiling, trying to look anywhere but at the half-naked girl before him.
“So, I take it he wasn’t too upset I left the party early?” he asked before she blushed and quickly padded down the hall to the bathroom.
Nikolai pushed his hair back from his face and shook his head. Of course Aleks had company. He made his way to his room and let the back of his knees hit the mattress, flopping onto his back. His eyes fluttered shut as he mulled over the events of the evening. He knew he needed to turn his brain off and actually try to get some sleep, but that was still proving to be rather difficult. As he was getting lost in his own thoughts, he was interrupted by his door being flung open and Aleks leaning in his door frame.
“Do you mind? I’m really tired,” Nikolai grumbled, still not opening his eyes.
“You dog! You got home later than me,” he said with a smile evident in his voice.
“It’s not like that. You’ll notice I didn’t bring anyone home with me, now did I?” Nikolai was starting to get irritated by his roommate’s presence and hoped he’d leave him in peace and quiet sooner rather than later.
“Maybe not. But you could have. Seemed like you and Genya’s new roommate had something going on,” he pried.
“Can you fuck off? Respectfully?”
“Alright, alright. I’ll let you sleep. But you’re gonna tell me about her when you wake up.” With that, Nikolai heard his door shut again, leaving him in the stillness of his room. He fell asleep half hanging off the bed where he landed with the girl who got away on his mind.
----
When you woke up the next morning, Nikolai was still fresh on your mind. The way he smiled, the way he smelled…everything about him haunted your dreams. It didn’t even take a full minute before the guilt settled in. Jesus Christ, what were you thinking? Did Matt cease to exist because your first love cropped up out of nowhere? You just started flirting with Nikolai again like it was as easy as breathing. But you couldn’t help yourself—Nikolai had worked his way into your head instantly just like he had when you were 17. Like the first time you saw him take off his helmet, shake out his perfect, golden hair, and skate to the bench. It had been a wrap since that moment. You groaned into your pillow, feeling a little nauseous and a lot guilty. After freshening up and pulling a sweatshirt on, you wandered out into the living room of your apartment with Genya where she was eagerly chatting with Zoya over a cup of coffee.
“Fancy seeing you here, ditcher,” Genya teased as you grabbed a mug for yourself.
“I didn’t ditch,” you said. “Nik told you guys we were leaving.”
“Where’d you end up anyways?” Genya asked with a tiny smirk. This line of questioning amused Zoya and she gladly joined in on the antagonizing.
“I can only assume, knowing him, that you ended up somewhere more...private,” Zoya interjected.
“It wasn’t like that. I um, we ended up just going to get some food. Catch up or whatever,” you said while you shot daggers at Genya. You paused to take a sip of the too-hot drink before continuing. “Where have you been hiding Nikolai anyways?”
“He ain’t hiding- have you met the dude? I met him during Freshman orientation. Zoya and I lived in the dorm room next to him and Aleks,” she said as a matter of fact. “We’ve been hanging out ever since. Real good guy.”
“I know,” you sighed, pushing around a pen that was left on the coffee table.
“You like him! Oh man, I’m sorry, I didn’t even think about him being totally your type. You and your pretty boys. Mhmm, I bet he liked you too,” Genya teased and smiled again.
“No, he’s just an old friend,” you lied. “I have a boyfriend.”
“Could have fooled me,” Zoya mumbled, but you caught it. The comment did nothing to ease the growing knot in your stomach.
“Seriously. He’s my friend. I kinda got carried away with the flirting last night, but I was so excited to see him, you know?” You looked at them both, silently pleading with them to let it drop. “We’re just friends. Nothing else.”
“That may be true now, but the dude has it bad for you. I saw the way he looked at you, dude,” Genya said softly, finally sympathetic to your anguish. “Can I ask how you know each other? Besides ‘high school or something’?”
“We didn’t even go to school together.” You leaned back into the cushions, letting your focus drift away from the girls across from you. “My parents own an ice rink in my hometown and I’d work the concession stand when I got out of school- do my homework and pour hot chocolate or whatever. Nik played hockey with his high school team there.” You smiled to yourself. “I saw him come off the ice one day and thought he was the most handsome boy I’d ever seen. And one night, he walked right up to me after practice and started talking to me like we’d known each other forever. I didn’t have a ton of friends in school and hadn’t really been noticed by boys like...ever. So to have this super hot dude flirting with me was wild.”
“Oh my god, was Nik your first crush?” Genya squealed.
“I’d had a couple guys that caught my eye before him, but he was the first guy I really liked. First guy I kissed. First guy I…” you trailed off, letting the pause speak for itself.
“No wonder he was so happy to see you,” Zoya said.
“He kinda ghosted me when he left for college and I hadn’t talked to him since the last night we were together. I was too scared to try and find him on Facebook or anything. I didn’t want to see him with other girls hanging all over him and hurt my own feelings, you know?” Genya and Zoya exchanged a sympathetic look. “Anyways, that’s about it. Pretty boring stuff.”
“Babe…”
“I gotta start getting ready for work,” you said, abruptly standing and putting your mug in the sink. “I’ll see you guys later.” With that, you shuffled out of the room, hoping neither of them caught the hitch in your voice. So, maybe you weren’t as over that ghosting as you thought you were.
----
The weekend passed with a lot of idle time thinking about when you could possibly see Nikolai again. You were really regretting not scrawling your number somewhere for him. It was torture not knowing how to find him again outside of groveling to Genya, or hoping dumb luck would make you run into him.
You made it to Monday morning and somehow managed to make it to your 8:30 am class on time; a rare feat for you. Thankfully, the class was all engaged in a lively discussion of what constituted a modern classic novel, so it was easy to stay alert and engaged. Before you knew it, your professor was dismissing you and reminding you all about the paper that was due on Thursday. You shuffled down the stairs of the academic building and paused once you got to the quad. Normally, you’d head home for a few hours before your afternoon class, but you had a little time to spare today before your study group. But you also had Nikolai’s face burned in your mind. Would it be totally weird to try to find him?
The building that housed Science and History was only a quarter mile from your classroom, so you made quick work of the walk and tried to hype yourself up, telling yourself that it was normal to want to see him this bad- you’d missed out on a few years there! Of course you wanted to see your friend. When you got inside, you realized you had no idea where you were going. You had yet to take any sort of History class while at school and had absolutely no idea if he was even in class at this time. God, this was seeming like a dumber and dumber idea the more you walked around. After wandering aimlessly for a minute, you saw a familiar head of effortlessly messy golden hair slink out of a classroom.
Immediately, your eye was drawn to him. You were thankful he didn’t notice your presence because you were definitely staring. All weekend, you were sure you had a picture-perfect vision of him in your head, but you were abruptly reminded that he was much more handsome than you could dream up. He had traded in his button down shirt from the other night for a cozy looking grey sweater. You allowed yourself one more moment to admire him from afar before you approached. But Nikolai had turned to face you straight on, face lighting up the moment he saw you.
“I was wondering when you’d come around.” You could hear the smile in his voice.
“So, you don’t think I’m crazy for wandering around a building I’ve literally never set foot in, hoping by cosmic timing you’d be here?” you smirked.
“I promise you, I don’t think you’re crazy. I mean, I was considering doing something quite similar myself,” You couldn’t stop the heat that started to rise in your cheeks.
“So, where are you headed now?” you asked, rocking on your heels.
“Well,” he pondered, “I was going to meet Aleks at The Moose if you’re walking that way.”
“I’m not, but I have a couple minutes before I have to be at my study group if you want to sit outside,” you offered.
“Of course, darling,” he grinned, hazel eyes playful as you found a bench next to the bike rack. “How was your weekend?”
“Not bad,” you shrugged. “I had to work both days, but it was pretty slow, so no complaints. I only got grilled by Genya and Zoya a little. It could have been a lot worse,” you smiled.
“They do love any information they can get their little hands on,” Nikolai said, leaning back into the bench. “You...didn’t see Matt at all?” he probed, trying with all his might to look and sound nonchalant, but failing.
“Why do you want to know?”
“Can I not take an interest in you?” he asked with gentle eyes, but you just glowered.
“No. I didn’t see Matt this weekend. We haven’t even talked since Friday, honestly,” you said. Nikolai didn’t interject at all, just looked at you to go on, if you felt like sharing. “We haven’t really been getting along lately. He’s a nice guy and all, but I don’t know how much we have in common. And he never seems to have time for me unless it’s on his terms. Like, he expects me to be available whenever it works for him, but he’s always conveniently busy if I ask him to do anything with me.” You kicked at a rock near your toe, eyes fixed on the ground, totally unsure why you just told Nikolai all that.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” he said sincerely. “I’m saying this as your friend,” he started, making you look in his eyes again. “You deserve someone who understands what a gift it is to spend time with you.” It was so simple, but it made tears instantly spring in your eyes. “Hey. Hey, now. None of that,” he smiled, thumbing a tear away. “Would you maybe want to come over Friday? Get pizza and watch a movie or something?”
“That sounds really nice, Nik,” you nodded. It was then he broke into a blinding smile and you were unable to stop the swirling in your belly.
“Could I—would I be able to get your number? So I can send you my address or whatever,” he added quickly; you were really starting to love seeing him get flustered.
“I think that’s a good idea, yeah.” You reached for some scrap paper and pencil from your bag and scribbled down your number, placing it in the palm of his large hands before standing up. His fingers just barely brushed yours as he took the paper before stowing it away in the front pocket of his jeans. “You can always use that number before Friday too, if you want,” you said with a sly smile and patted Nikolai’s cheek gently. His laugh carried a bit as you walked opposite directions out of the quad, your feet feeling like they were being carried by tiny, pink fluffy clouds.
Fuck. Did you just set up a date with Nikolai? No. No, not a date. Just two friends eating pizza and watching movies. Friends did that all the time.
But as you walked to the cafe where your study group met, there was a crashing wave of guilt that washed over you. What the fuck were thinking? All you were doing was playing with fire, practically begging fate to burn you. You were mentally beating yourself up, feeling like a total shit bag as you pushed open the door to the small cafe, seeing your group already gathered and breaking off into pairs, Matt beaming at you when you came into view.
“Hi, baby,” he said, kissing your cheek as you sat down next to him.
“Hey,” you smiled back with tight lips, hardly able to look at him.
You started going through notes for an upcoming Logic and Reasoning exam, but you found yourself unable to process anything you were reading. Your mind was elsewhere and you only managed half-hearted affirmations and hardly contributed any correct answers. Here Matt was, sweet and excited to see you. He was good, he was nice. Maybe you just needed to make more of an effort with him. Should he really want to do the things you wanted to do, or were you being selfish? You weren’t sure.
“Something wrong?” he asked suddenly, snapping you from your thoughts.
“Just don’t feel good, that’s all,” you shrugged, looking back at your notebook and computer. He accepted that answer and didn’t probe any further.
“So, you should come over Friday. I don’t have anyone else to hang out with and thought we could hang out,” he said into your ear, hand gripping your thigh.
“Can’t,” you said with a shake of your head. “I already have plans.”
“Oh there’s a surprise,” he said, half under his breath. And that...that was it. You immediately slammed your pen onto the table and looked at him with hard eyes.
“Would you just say whatever you’re trying to fucking say?” you seethed.
“Just seems awfully convenient that every time we’re supposed to do anything, suddenly you have plans with I don’t even know who” he said, clearly annoyed. “All I’ve done is try to accommodate you and do what you want, but that doesn’t seem to be enough,” he added with a melodramatic sigh, which was more than enough to set you off.
“Oh, that’s a fucking joke, right?” you laughed. “Maybe you’d know more about my schedule if you ever bothered to talk to me more than once a week. And you literally just said I should come over because no one else can! Like, I’m your girlfriend- I shouldn’t be your last ditch option,” you scoffed. “You know what? I can’t be here right now. Call me when you’re ready to rejoin all of us in reality.” With that, you grabbed your bag and stormed out the door, letting your feet take you quickly in any direction that was simply away. No, you were right about what you said to Nikolai- Matt only saw you as convenient.
Friday couldn’t come soon enough.

Monthly Reads | October 2020
Tumblr media
Happy 28th! I probably sound like a broken record already but I have to say it again: this fandom has an insane amount of talented writers! I am in awe! Every single one of you is my hero! ♥♥♥ Here are all the 23 fics I read and loved this month:
✧ Welcome to The Rivalry | 2tiedships2 | a/b/o - strangers to lovers - enemies to lovers - rivalry - college - 19k “Welcome home!” Niall yelled, clapping his hands in excitement. “Isn’t it great?” Louis looked between Niall and the house, unsure how to respond. “I don’t understand,” Louis finally managed to say. “Aren’t we a little old to be living so close to campus?” Niall scoffed. “You’re only twenty-four for fuck’s sake. There is still plenty of partying left for us to do. What better place than one street over from where a car was set on fire after the Michigan game last year?” “Is there proof of that? Did the car have Michigan plates or something? Is there a photo I can send in a DM to Wolfie?” As if on cue, a Twitter notification popped up on Louis’ Apple watch. He had tweeted again. Or a reverse You’ve Got Mail au inspired by the Ohio State/Michigan rivalry. Featuring duplex neighbors, (kind of) enemies to lovers, and an anonymous Twitter feud between omega Louis and alpha Harry.
✧ Back to Seventeen | crimsontheory | teacher - soccer coach - 26k As a first grade teacher in a small town in Illinois, Harry’s life is pretty simple. He loves his job, is close with his family, and has a best friend he would go to the ends of the earth for. When a new soccer coach starts at the local high school, things start to get a bit more exciting for Harry. Because that coach just happens to be Louis Tomlinson; the guy Harry was unrequitedly in love with in high school. Or the one where Louis moves back to his hometown and Harry realizes he’s still not over his high school crush.
✧ Sigh for Sigh | logogram | historical - a/b/o - regency - miscommunication - pining - marriage of convenience - 11k When his father's sudden illness forces Harry to get married in a hurry, he's delighted that Lord Louis Tomlinson is the one who makes him an offer. Being married to Louis is just as wonderful as he imagined, except for one thing-- they haven't mated yet. Or the one where they're both idiots, Harry's afraid to say what he's thinking, and Louis's just trying to be honorable.
✧ We Can Find a Place to Feel Good | yeah_alright | 1960s - High School - school dances - 8k 14-year-old Harry is ecstatic to finally be old enough to experience the time-honored tradition of school dances. But with each year that passes and each dance he attends, he’s realizing they’re not all he used to hope they’d be. Especially when he can't actually dance with the person he most wants to. Maybe he and Louis can figure out their own ways to keep dancing, anyway.
✧ At Risk, I Fold | clare328 | canon compliant - established relationship - angst - emotional hurt/comfort - miscommunication - anxiety - implied/referenced alcohol abuse - 15k 2015 is a stream of hotel rooms and whisky on the rocks, tired glances and touching hands under tables. It’s the bears and the bees under a rainbow sky, and Harry and Louis have to figure out how to grow up together, instead of apart.
✧ Carry These Feelings | LadyLondonderry | fae Á faires - established relationship - magic - 3k Harry is one of the fae, and has to return to Court once a year to please the Queen. He makes a detour on his way home to Louis. Two weeks and I'll be home.
✧ Hung Up High in the Gallery | lovelarry10 | friends to lovers - slow burn - pining - 14k "Louis, lay still!” Louis sighed loudly, and Harry watched his chest puff out as he inhaled deeply, the breath he let out loudly making Harry’s curls shift. “I am, stop being so fussy. Can I see yet?” “Nope,” Harry remarked, smiling to himself. “I’m doing your chest next. Shit, this is going to look so good, Lou. Your tan and these colours… why haven’t we done this before?” “Because we haven’t been this drunk in a while, and it never occurred to me until tonight?” ❁ ❁ ❁ ❁ ❁ ❁ When Harry’s best friend, Louis, comes to support him at his art show, he decides they need to do some celebrating afterwards. How fast do the lines between friends and lovers get blurred ... or better, get painted?
✧ Love you in the dark | Perzikje | historical - wedding night - arranged marriage - dubious consent - 10k The story of a historical wedding night: in which Louis is quite unaware as to just how clueless his brand new husband is about sex. They try their best to figure it out together.
✧ Victorian Boy | audreyhheart | historical - victorian - royalty - enemies to friends to lovers - slow burn - angst - murder mystery - 101k Victorian AU. Harry the virgin Duke of Somerset knows little of love, while Louis the sly Duke of Warwick knows too much. When the two dukes come together for the Bilsdale fox hunt in York, Harry finds himself drawn into Louis' bed. But when secrets from Louis' dark past come to light, Harry fears that the fox isn't the only one being hunted.
✧ the anticipation of knowing you | sweetrevenge | strangers to lovers - neighbors - light angst - 13k Hello Neighbor! Just wanted to let you know that you were having sex so loud and scarily I called our building manager and security officer because I thought you were hurt. P.S. I sent them away when I heard you yell ‘cock’. I’m sorry that I heard that, but I wanted you to know in case they stopped by to check on you or something. Sorry! Your neighbor Louis Tomlinson in apartment #306 After Louis overhears his next door neighbor having sex, he doesn’t really expect anything but awkward hallway encounters to come from it. Instead, he’s surprised to find himself in a whirlwind pen pal relationship with the sweet, albeit loud, baker next door.
✧ We'll Be All Right | dandelionfairies | married couple - accridents - 13k Harry is performing his one night only show in LA but there are four very important people missing.
✧ The Last Song of Your Life | reminiscingintherain | famous/not famous - Rays of Sunhsine - homophobia - 21k As Harry glanced around at all of the faces, he froze as a very familiar pair of blue eyes leapt out at him. A pair of eyes that he hadn’t seen since before the One Direction bomb exploded. A pair of eyes that he never expected to see again. ~~~~ or the famous/not famous AU, with first love, miscommunication, interfering bandmates, and adorable little sisters.
✧ Her | jaerie | a/b/o - trans character - transitioning - dysphoria - anxiety - quarantine - 7k The buttery swipe of a high quality lipstick was almost a sexual experience in and of itself. This time a deep colour with purple undertones which drew out the emphasis of long, dark lashes and perfectly contoured cheekbones. It was a look for loose and styled curls, feeling the classy formal nightclub vibes reflected back from the mirror. The silky plum coloured slip dress would be perfect to debut. The tags still needed to be cut free from the new garment that hung in the closet, but tonight was the night to set it free. When Harry gets home, she can finally be who she wants to be. Letting someone else in always feels like a distant daydream to her... until it suddently isn't.
✧ Loving You's the Antidote | lululawrence | Stylinshaw - a/b/o - touch deprivation - hospitalization - soulmates - polyamory - anxiety - friends to lovers - no smut - 11k Nick and Harry had never been an obvious match. When eighteen-year-old Harry, newly presented as an omega, came home freshly bonded to Nick, a man nine years his elder and a beta no less, Anne had been more than skeptical and Eileen had shared some harsh words of her own. That didn’t deter them, though, and their families soon realised there really was something special about the bondmates that allowed them to work together almost seamlessly. It was only a few months later that Harry started getting sick. Or the one where Harry and Nick have been able to keep Harry's disorder at bay over the course of their relationship, but when they move to London and away from their support system, they find themselves in desperate need of help.
✧ Like A Neon Sign | reminiscingintherain | canon compliant - mentions of death - fluff - 8k Harry had always been perfect to Louis, through every age, through every stage, and in all the important ways, he was proud to have been able to witness the growth that Harry had experienced first-hand.
✧ We Had Everything | lightswoodmagic (sarah_writes) | exes to lovers - getting back together - famous/not famous - 3k “You know Harry’s coming, yeah?” Louis’ fingers twitched, faltering where he was straightening the knot in his tie as he tried to ignore the false nonchalance in Zayn’s voice. He had no idea how he missed the name on the invite list, how he skipped over the initials on the small gifts, didn’t notice the elegant swirl of Harry’s name inked onto an emerald green place card. Or, Louis and Harry fell apart, and Louis' never forgiven himself. He gets a second chance at Zayn and Liam's wedding.
✧ True To Your Heart | reminiscingintherain | Mulan AU - a/b/o - 13k The world was at war with itself. In the small country of Enilenif, in a tiny, often overlooked corner of the world, young Alphas were quickly signing up to fight, desperate to protect their Omegas and their country as Aidem began to attack their borders. A few defiant Omegas tried to enlist as well, but were firmly turned away with disapproving looks by the staff in the office. Harry Styles was one such Omega, sighing heavily as he kicked at a small stone on his walk home.
✧ What the Water Gave Me | larryatendoftheday | fantasy - mermaids - long distance relationship - 29k When a mermaid crawls out of the sea to listen to Harry sing, it changes everything.
✧ it’s hard for me to go home | localopa | angst - breakup - getting back together - 5k don’t call me baby again
✧ The Prince and the Thief | jaerie | Fairy Tale - a/b/o - strangers to lovers - violence - kidnapping - threats of rape/non-con - 19k Harry is an omega prince locked in a tower and Louis is the thief sent to kidnap him. Nothing turns out as planned.
✧ Up On The Shore | wordsnnotes | Eroda AU - magic - epistolary - friends to lovers - childhood friends - emotional/psychological abuse - angst - long-distance relationship - domestic violence - 34k Magic has been outlawed on Eroda ever since President Cowell came into power, and all the magic people had to go live on the island of Stonell. Things are not looking good for Harry when he finds out he's a magician and his abilities seem more and more out of control. Thankfully, his best friend Niall's mother has the idea to put him in touch with Louis, a magician boy living on Stonell. They begin a secret correspondence and drama ensues. Or: Louis hides his feelings under sarcasm, Harry is too sweet for his own sake, everyone is a rebel, the mums are amazing, Harry's dad is a jerk, and I'm struggling to make it understandable without using normal narration.
✧ this town's just an ocean now | louistomlinsons | exes to lovers - friends to lovers - summer romance - miscommunication - childhood friends - light angst - fluff - 31k “I have really great friends. Do you remember Louis? You guys were always hanging out when you were growing up.” Harry remembers Louis. Harry remembers Louis. Suddenly, his throat feels way too dry, despite the ice cream he keeps licking at. He chokes a little on a chocolate chip before saying, “I, uh. I remember Louis.” Her face brightens. “We have dinner every Sunday. He owns the house now. His parents moved further north, and he wanted to stay here, so they just gave it over. Now if you want to worry about someone being lonely, that’s who I worry about.” inspired by watermelon sugar, featuring picnics on the beach and boys being dumb
✧ I Am the Blinking Light | dearmrsawyer | ghosts - shipwreck - 19k There is a legend of a lighthouse far out to sea. It can’t be found on any map, and those who do find it never return. They say a ghost haunts the lighthouse, and you can hear it calling out in loneliness on the ocean waves.

Carlos Oliveira Imagine (Intoxicated) 🥃💚😓
Request: Can I request an imagine where Carlos has to take care of the drunk friend(reader) and she confesses her feelings?
A/N: So, In case anyone was curious...the song that helped inspire me to write this piece is MGK-BLOODY VALENTINE ♥ I’d also like to apologize because I may have used my nickname for Carlos in this imagine...”MOPHEAD” IM SO SORRY actually not really that sorry. This imagine is also great to write because I’m hungover from drinking four different hard liquors and doing molly so this is great to write...and I feel great smile I’m super happy about this imagine, cause I think it’s super cute and I want someone to care for me this way. I’m literally hurting my own feelings with my work I’m not okay
Word count: 1.4k
Tumblr media
You twirled and shook your hips to the music that blasted from your TV. You spun around and around on your coffee table as you sung the lyrics to your favorite song. You would definitely get complaints from your neighbors in the morning, but you didn’t care. The world was falling apart around you; it was time to drink and dance to the sound of music destroying your eardrums, while not caring about the consequences. You took a large gulp of whiskey. It burned your throat on the way down, but it would soon make you feel amazing and careless. All you were wearing was a t-shirt you stole from Carlos and white lace panties.
You felt yourself grow dizzy so you made the executive decision to sit on the couch and relax to avoid a concussion at all costs. You looked over at your phone, it was dry as the desert as always. You were...lonely. You missed him.
“Should I text him?” You asked yourself. As you talked to yourself, you felt less lonely. It was truly sad when you thought about how empty you were after the fall of Raccoon City and R.P.D. You sloppily took another swig of the cheap whiskey. You didn’t feel like spending a lot of money of good, expensive alcohol that Carlos would enjoy. It didn’t matter, he wasn’t there. After a few more seconds of staring at your phone, debating a question you already knew the answer to the moment the words came from your mouth. You dizzily grabbed your phone and located your messages. It wasn’t easy being drunk.
The words started to morph together as you tried to concentrate on what to say.
“Heeeeyyyyy, what ya doing mophead?” You awkwardly laughed at your attempt to tease him; you really were getting hit hard by the fifteen dollar whiskey. Your phone made a whooshing sound, letting you know the message sent. A couple minutes later as the alcohol set in even more, your phone buzzed.
“Mophead?????” He questioned your new nickname for him. In a weak attempt to text back, your sight grew blurry as you struggled to make out the letters on your phone. You began to mumble and slur to yourself as what would be considered a “brain dead” activity made you feel like it was college all over again.
“Your hair is amazing, and it smells great too. What’s your secret???” After five minutes of hard thought, you sent the text. Your phone immediately buzzed. As you tried to reach your phone, you lazily spilled whiskey on the carpet.
“Fucking...Great.” You sighed, your eyes widened at what Carlos said in response.
“Call me.” Carlos responded. Was it that obvious? You hesitated before calling. Why did he want you to call? Why was he awake? It was close to 3 AM. You swallowed and dialed his number. Anxiety crawled up your spine as the phone rang. After four rings, Carlos’ tired husky voice hit the back of your ear. You were scared to say something, you weren’t sure why. You and Carlos had always been close; he was the type of friend who would never betray your trust. You trusted him with your life.
“Hey, y/n. How are you doing?” His voice was rough and it was the most attractive thing you heard in weeks. For some reason you could smell his exclusive cologne he bought from Brazil. He constantly wore it around you; he knew you liked how it smelled.
“I...am...great.” You slurred your words and Carlos instantly knew you had been drinking. He chuckled in a tired, quiet tone.
“Vodka?” He guessed. You shook your head, thinking he was able to see you through the phone.
“Cheap whiskey...” you said lazily.
“Ugh, why would you do that to yourself? It’s like drinking straight gasoline.” He voice became more even as he started to wake up.
“Oh my bad, Mr. exclusive.” You laughed and Carlos sighed.
“Is it cool if I come over?” He asked. You paused and thought about it. Why would you want to say no? The entire reason you texted him in the first place was because you missed him. Don’t say no!
“It’s almost 3 AM, you know that right?” You wanted to confirm Carlos’ awareness.
“Only someone as special as you could steal my hours of sleep.” Carlos took your response as a yes and said he’d be right over. He didn’t live too far away; a few blocks at most.
As you sat in place on the cheap couch you bought off craigslist, you forgot you were only in a t-shirt and undies. By the time Carlos walked in you realized what you were wearing. Honestly, you were too drunk to care. You threw your head back as the ceiling spun, Carlos calmly walked over to you. He noticed that almost all the bottle of whiskey was gone. He was happy he came over.
“Did you drink all of that?” He asked in a worried tone.
“Me, myself and I.” You giggled without effort and Carlos smirked. He knew you were struggling with how things were in the world. It wasn’t easy losing the job you loved, your hometown, and losing to Umbrella Corp. Carlos snatched the bottle from your reach and emptied it in the sink.
“I...was still...drinking that...” You argued with what little energy you had left.
“Trust me, it’s not worth drinking.” Carlos replied and took his jacket off, tossing it over the head of the couch. You rolled your eyes and held your arms out. All you wanted to smell him and have him hold you close. Carlos leaned back on the other end of the ouch and pulled you into his lap by your arms. You plopped lazily into his warm, lean arms and you instantly grew comfortable in his embrace.
“You always smell good, Mr. Brazil.” You were making up nicknames as the alcohol hit you harder as the minutes passed by. He chuckled at how cute you were, drunk or not. You hummed against his muscular chest as he lovingly rubbed your back. Carlos remained silent, maybe you would fall asleep if there was nothing but silence.
“Carlos I have something important to tell you.” You shot your head up and looked into his brown eyes. His eyes widened in response as you startled him; he was drifting off to sleep as well.
“I’m all ears.” Carlos leaned his head back and shut his eyes. You played with his facial hair as he chuckled.
“That tickles.” He gently held onto your wrist, rubbing the palm of your hand with his thumb.
“I-I really like you.” You slurred and Carlos curiously raised and eyebrow, his eyes were still closed.
“Enough to let me sleep over?” He smiled and you blushed deeply. Your cheeks flushed a bright red as you looked down the hall to your bedroom.
“Like...in the same bed?” You asked.
“Only if you’re comfortable...I’m just too tired to drive.” He slurred, but it wasn’t from alcohol. He was as sober as a man could be.
“I mean, of course. Did you hear what I said though?” You tried to lift yourself up, but everything began to spin. You flopped down onto his chest in defeat.
“Mhm, I like you too.” Carlos responded in an exhausted tone.
“How do I know you’re not just saying that because I’m drunk and emotional?” You tested his honesty.
“I wouldn’t be here if you weren’t special to me.” Carlos sat up as he helped you onto your feet, he kept a tight grip on your hips. You tightly latched onto his broad shoulders. Your cheeks were an even brighter red than before. Carlos didn’t want to risk you falling and hurting yourself, so he picked you up instead.
Carlos gently set you down onto your squishy bed as he pulled the sheets down from underneath your body. You smiled innocently with tired eyes as Carlos tucked you in. His eyebrows furrowed together.
“Is that my shirt?” He asked with a slight smirk planted on his face.
“Mhmm...” You hummed happily with a drunk smile on your face.
He sighed, but unbothered. You looked pretty cute and petite in his size.
Carlos took off his shirt and you tried to open your eyes more to get a better view. Carlos tossed his black shirt on your face.
“You can steal that one too, if you’d like.” He teased and slid into bed next to you. You still had a silly smile on your face as Carlos pulled you tightly into his warm arms. You didn’t notice since you fell asleep so quickly, but Carlos had been gazing down at you, waiting for you to fall asleep. It was such a pretty and adorable sight he wanted to enjoy, even though he was exhausted.

trigger warnings: depictions of anxiety, panic attacks
Tumblr media
“Hellooo?” The sultry female voice repeated.
At least Aelin is sure she doesn’t need to get her ears checked--it was definitely a woman who answered. She pulled the phone from her ear to double check the name she dialed. Indeed, Rowan, bird emoji, in bold white letters stares back at her.
In the background, Aelin heard the rustle of sheets. A mumbled male voice.
Aelin immediately hung up and threw her phone to the other side of her bed. She pulled her knees to chest, tucked her head between them, and forced herself to breathe in and out. In and out. In. Out.
The pounding in her ears threatened to pull her into the oblivion she always tries so hard to avoid. Aelin’s anxiety started showing face after her parents died, only to worsen after her Uncle Gavriel. Her first night in Arobynn’s foster care was also the first time she had a panic attack.
For Aelin, they come in the form of water. She starts in a room, which is more like a glorified box. The walls are either made of glass or a clear plastic, she can never get close enough to tell, and although there is no ceiling, the walls run farther and higher than her eyes can see. Her room-box is on a beach somewhere with wet sand at her feet. In the beginning, she tried to dig her way out, only to give up when each handful of sand was replaced by twice that. Until the sand was up to her knees, trapping her. It’s always night time, the sky starless. The only light is provided by the sliver of a waning moon over the horizon.
Then the tide begins to rise. There are no waves yet, just a gradual increase in water. It reaches her feet first, naturally, and by the time the water reaches the opposite wall of her room-box, it’s at her knees. Then the water bounces off the wall, creating ripples in the water that threaten to throw her off-balance.
The force of the waves intensifies as the water reaches her waist. And then she’s tumbling. The first few times, she can still reach the bottom to push herself to the surface. She’s been through this so much, she knows that after her third push she needs to try and take the deepest breath she can manage before she’s pulled under for good.
That happens next. She’s unsure which way is up or down, right or left. She tries to swim in whichever direction feels right, but the water is endless and she’s no longer in the room-box. She’s in the depths of the ocean, too far below to where there is no current to guide her, only nothing.
All too soon, she runs out of breath, but she would rather suffocate herself than inhale water. Either way, her panic wins. Aelin is never the target, without her they cease to exist. It’s that fire in her heart that the panic is after because without that fire, Aelin is no more. Her attacks are smart because they know there are two ways to extinguish a fire: deprive it of oxygen or get it wet.
Aelin is about to release the hold she has on her lungs when she feels something in her hand. In the water, she can’t tell what it is until another set of fingers interlace with hers.
Then she’s being pulled. Pulled and pulled, up and up, until the black of the water fades to blue. She never knows when it happens, but when she finally breaks the surface, there’s sunlight.
Slowly, she becomes more aware of her surroundings. Below her, she feels the fabric of her bedsheets, not the grains of sand. Her skin is damp from sweat, not soaked with sea water. Her breathing, while still shallow, is beginning to even out.
Her years of going to the university’s wellness center kicked in after a minute, and she began to list foods in alphabetical order in her head. Apples, bananas, cake. She wiggles her toes. French fries, grapes, hamburgers. She stretches her legs. Kiwi, lasagna, mangoes. She flexes her fingers, her arms. Oranges, popsicles, quesadillas.
In. Out.
Spaghetti, tacos, udon noodles.
Aelin lifts her head and opens her eyes. She blinks a few times and is finally able to focus on the soft forest green eyes staring back at her. They are so similar to yet completely different from the bright emeralds she longs to see.
Her best friend just sat there, holding her sweaty hand in hers until Aelin was ready to speak. She had to clear her throat a few times before she rasped, “A woman answered his phone.”
Lysandra’s eyes widened ever so slightly, but her face revealed nothing as she grabbed a glass of water she must have brought with her. Wordlessly, she handed it to Aelin. She downed half the glass in one go, then finished it in two more. She kept the glass in her hands, spinning it mindlessly as they talked.
“I don’t think you need me to tell you that it might not mean anything,” she said.
Aelin sighed. “I don’t think you need me to tell you that my mind isn’t exactly in the right place to be thinking of silver linings.”
“I know, I do, but we don’t need to freak out about it quite yet. I mean, you were going to go on a date with Chaol, right?” Aelin nodded weakly, seeing where she was going with this. “And he doesn’t actually know about the baby yet. So truly, he hasn’t done anything wrong, yeah?”
“I really hate when you’re right.”
“I think you secretly love it.”
The corner of Aelin’s mouth quirked up for a split second. “You’re as insufferable as my cousin.”
Lysandra barked out a laugh that made Aelin giggle. The sound was short-lived as the best friends were enveloped by silence once again.
Aelin contemplated what to do next, knowing Lysandra was exactly right. She was going to go on a date with someone else. So why did the thought of Rowan with another woman freak her out so badly? Gods, she was a mess. She really wants to blame it on the baby.
The baby.
Aelin touched a hand to her still-flat stomach and picked up her phone, knowing she needed to just rip the band-aid off. Her phone showed no new messages from Rowan, but why would he call his ex when he can be tangled in the sheets with the sexy-voiced woman? Not the point, Aelin. Right. She opened her text messages, scrolling to her conversation with Rowan.
Her heart clenched and silver lined her eyes when she saw that the last message he had sent her was on New Year’s Day. It read, Here’s to you and me in 2020, baby. I love you. Within 24 hours of that message, their relationship went to shit. Aelin doesn’t even remember what really happened, but next thing she knew, she was standing in an airport terminal crying, single, and unknowingly with child.
Aelin took a deep breath to calm her nerves and typed out a simple, Hey Rowan. I know we haven’t talked since you left, but I was wondering if you could call me when you’re free? Just let me know, thanks.
She locked her phone and crawled back under the covers. Effectively drained from her panic, the fire that was burning so bright when she woke up was barely an ember.
The sound of Lysandra moving about her apartment lulled her back into a dreamless sleep.
----------
Rowan Whitethorn was tired. Mentally, physically, emotionally. He was so gods damned tired. His old friend, Vaughan, told him that if he took just one really easy study abroad class, he’ll essentially get a semester long vacation paid for completely by financial aid.
Rowan had a free elective left in his crazy pre-law schedule, so he chose photography. Just taking pictures of random shit, right?
Wrong.
His brain is overflowing with random information about aperture and lighting and exposure, and if someone tells him his angles are wrong one more time, he’s going to lose it. On top of that, he was assigned a partner to work with this whole semester. And because there really must be a god out there whose sole purpose is to spite him, his partner is his unbearable ex, Remelle.
He and Remelle are from the same hometown and went to the same middle and high school. They started dating the summer before they left for college and decided to stay together at the University of Terrasen.
He wasn’t sure what it was exactly that made him realize Remelle was a Grade A Bitch, but by the end of fall semester, he ended it with her. Then he met Aelin through Fenrys, and - well, he doesn’t want to think about her right now.
Rowan has been in Wendlyn for about two months now, running around the city finding subjects for their project. Wendlyn is one of the biggest cities he’s ever been to, and even if he commutes everywhere he’s trying to go, it takes him a whole day to barely cover sixteenth of the land.
It wouldn’t be so bad if he had someone else to split the city with, but Remelle usually spends her whole day seducing whatever poor bastard she can get to take her to bed that night instead. He’d drag Fenrys along if he could, but he opted to take an Old Language class and is stuck in a classroom at Mistward Tech.
The weather in Wendlyn was finally beginning to warm up after weeks of blizzards and freezing temperatures that put Terrasen winters to shame, so Rowan chose to wander on foot. He spends most of the morning taking practice shots of Wendlyn architecture and anything else that might look nice for the project.
Rowan had to admit this was a nice excuse to go sightseeing.
By noon, he was feeling good about the progress he made and planned to reward himself with whatever delicious spread their hosts had prepared for lunch. He figured he was about an hour walk away from their housing, so he opted to call an Uber.
It took him about five minutes of rummaging through the camera bag before he finally found his phone. The sun was so bright at this time of day that the only thing he could see was that his facial recognition wasn’t working. Using muscle memory, he typed in his passcode when the faint lines of numbers appeared. That didn’t work either.
Growing more and more frustrated and hungry by the minute, Rowan walked until he found an awning to use as shade. Blinking away the blinding spots from his eyes, his frustration morphed into anger.
This wasn’t his fucking phone.
Since when did he and Remelle have the same phone? With almost identical cases? He cursed her for whatever plot she’s probably scheming by switching their phones. He cursed her again for being the reason he’s way too exhausted to realize the phone he packed that morning wasn’t even his.
Rowan decided to order a sandwich and water from a shop nearby - using Remelle’s card from the wallet attached to her phone, because fuck you, Remelle - and walk back.
As he walked, Rowan let his mind wander to the golden haired beauty with turquoise eyes across the sea - the source of his emotional exhaustion. He loved her, would go as far as saying he was in love with her. But something about their chemistry had exploded in the weeks leading up to his study abroad program, and not in a good way.
For lack of a better explanation, he was confused. From the moment he met her in his own apartment with Fenrys, he knew they were going to be something. Not even a month later, they went on their first date and the rest was history. Not only was their friendship instantaneously synchronous, but when they finally crossed that intimate threshold, their chemistry was like no other.
Fast forward two years later, and they were better than ever. Aelin fit in with his friend group so perfectly she officially dubbed them “the Cadre” and herself as their “Queen”. Rowan was starting to take his future with her seriously.
But then Lyria transferred to the University of Terrasen.
Rowan never told Aelin about her. He didn’t think he had to. They were childhood to middle school sweethearts, hardly anything substantial. She moved before they got to high school when her dad was transferred to the Air Force base in Eyllwe. They kept in touch as best they could, but it was high school. Remelle was there and Lyria wasn’t. When Aelin came along, he forgot about her altogether.
His first week of senior year, he was waiting for his comparative law class to start, when she sat down next to him. His emerald green eyes met startlingly familiar chestnut ones, and Rowan felt like he couldn’t breathe. He was lucky it was the first day of syllabus week - it didn’t matter if he paid attention or not.
They caught up over coffee and started studying together throughout the semester. He told her all about Aelin, and when he finally introduced the two women, they were fast friends. He wasn’t sure when it happened, but at some point, Aelin’s demeanor began to change.
She was usually so confident with herself and her place in the world, but every time Lyria was mentioned, her eyes shuttered for a brief second. If he wasn’t constantly enamoured with the constant shift from turquoise to gold in her eyes, he would have never noticed.
Then her jealousy began to show, along with her possessiveness. It was unbecoming of her. But every time he brought it up, her pride took over and she denied all of his accusations. Every time he tried to explain that he loved Aelin and a romantic relationship with Lyria was a thing of the past, she brushed it off with an I know but continued to act like a stranger.
When he felt he couldn’t take it anymore, he used his study abroad as an excuse to take a break. He thought it would be a good idea for the two of them to spend some time apart and re-evaluate when he was back in Terrasen. At this point in time, if she hasn’t figured out that he has been faithful to her this whole time, he isn’t sure he will want to fight for them.
It was that thought that brought him back to the housing campus right outside of Mistward Tech. He marched himself straight to Remelle’s room, knowing that even though it was well into the afternoon, she was most definitely still tangled in the sheets with a stranger.
After a minute of incessant knocking, Remelle opened the door with an irritated, “What?”
Rowan didn’t bother being pleasant. “Give me my phone.”
“What are you talking about?” The glint in her eye told him she knew exactly what he was talking about, and Rowan was not having it.
“I honestly don’t give a fuck about what game you’re playing, but I’m exhausted, hungry, and need my phone back.”
“Why do you need it? Expecting a call from someone?”
“No? I just want it back?” Remelle stared at him with a look he couldn’t quite decipher before turning back into her room to retrieve his phone.
When they traded, she said, “You got a weird call this morning. I obviously thought it was my phone so I didn’t bother checking the caller ID, but the other person hung up without saying anything.”
Rowan mumbled a thanks then went to the kitchen to grab a snack to eat in his bed. As soon as he flopped on the bed, all he wanted to do was take a nap, but he managed to stay awake long enough to check his notifications.
Other than a few likes on a post he uploaded a few days ago, there was nothing interesting. He plugged his phone into the charger by the night stand and was about to close his eyes when the sound of an incoming text made him alert. It wasn’t just any sound, though. It was the first few notes of Fur Elise. Aelin’s favorite piano piece.
He quickly sat up on the side of the bed and unlocked his phone. What he read made his heart rate increase as if he was running up the side of one of the mountains near Mistward. She wrote, Hey Rowan. I know we haven’t talked since you left, but I was wondering if you could call me when you’re free? Just let me know, thanks.
He didn’t need to think twice about tapping her name on his favorites list and lifting the phone to his ear. It rang and rang and rang for so long, he thought she wasn’t going to answer. But then she did. And his heart skipped a beat at the sound of her voice.
“Rowan?” She sounded hesitant, like she wasn’t sure it was him on the other end.
“Yeah, it’s me. Um, how are you, Aelin?”
He could hear her heavy breathing, trying to steady herself. It made Rowan nervous. “I think so? It depends on the day, really. I, um, I actually have something I need to talk to you about. I had a whole speech planned out, but I don’t know if there’s a best way to tell you this.”
Rowan waited with bated breath. What could she possibly have to tell him? He wondered if she started dating someone else already. The thought made his stomach drop. But what else could it be?
Aelin took a deep breath with a forceful exhale. The next words that came out of her mouth made his heart join his stomach on the floor.
“Rowan. I’m pregnant.”

1- UNPREDICTABLE
They haven't seen each other since high school and they hadn't missed each other at all. In fact, they never really could stand each other. Her, a bit of a rebel, listening to punk music, searching for trouble whenever she could... and him, the good boy, popular and loved by everyone, who could rarely be seen without his guitar. It's been a few years already but not many things had changed and they still didn't have anything in common... except one thing. Both of them aspired to become famous with their music. With a twist of fate, they end up in each other's lives again and if they can put aside their resentment for one another, maybe they could bring something incredibly precious to each other. But nothing has ever been uncertain.
This is the story of two opposite persons who share a burning passion that may slowly bring them closer... or make the hatred they already feel for each other even more intense.
2- D.N.A. (daddies now available)
The test was positive. I was pregnant. The problem was, I didn’t know who the father was. It could be my ex boyfriend Liam, his best friend Niall or my best friend Louis. Or maybe it could be that boy I randomly had sex with, Harry... I had no idea and I was not going to find out soon.¸
All I knew was I had to tell four boys that there was a possibility for them to be a daddy in less than a year. Can you just imagine their reaction?
Contrary to all expectations, they accepted their fates.. somehow. And no matter who his daddy was, “little human” was going to get a lot of attention from a lot of men. Exactly like me.
This is my pregnancy story. And it was just the beginning of a long journey.
3- MEANT TO BE
When they first met, Louis was all *MAIN GIRL* ever wanted. However, a decade later the high school sweethearts had change and she felt like most of the sparkles she once had were now gone. Then she met Niall and it clicked instantly and intensely and since then, they’ve been seeing each other in secret, lying to their whole entourage about the nature of their relationship. Feelings started to grow, things started to change, and maybe, just maybe, it’s meant to be. Or maybe not.
A tale of broken hearts, unforgettable love and many… way too many lies.
4- LIVING WITH LOUIS TOMLINSON
Call me Queen Catastrophe. I lost my job, my boyfriend, my best girl friend and my apartment on the same day. Just a little friday afternoon like all the others, right?
Thank god, my best friend Louis was there to save the day. Nothing unusual. I was supposed to crash at his apartment for one night and then walk on my pride and go back to my parents to admit how much of a failure I really am.
However, Louis had other plans : he wanted me to move in with him. That’s when my story really starts. Mutual feelings, drunken sex, grocery shopping, fights that end up with porcelain thrown around the kitchen (I’m an intense person, I know) but most of all, his best guy friend stealing his (our, now) couch at least 5 nights a week.
I despise Niall Horan with all my heart. Him and his stupid charm, his flirty smile and his hands that always ended up in places they shouldn’t. He was threatening to come between Louis and I. He was slowly taking more space in our apartment… and in my heart.
Fuck, I hate Niall Horan with a passion.
5- FOR YOUR LOVE
After months of trying to get pregnant, Niall and his long-time girlfriend found out she was sterile. The news obviously shook their relationship and sparked a few arguments but after a long discussion, they found only one solution : hire a surrogate mother. As days go by, Niall's relationship gets harder and harder to save, and his connection with the surrogate mother of his child becomes tighter. Soon, he gets caught in feelings he can't explain and definitely can't understand. But life is not as easy as just following your feelings.
A story of unsettling feelings, confusing relationships, a deep and strong connection but mostly, decisions impossible to make. Can this really end well?
6- DATING FOR DUMMIES
*MAIN GIRL* has tried blind dates, dating apps, and speed dating to find her soulmate with no good result. Niall has tried pretty much the same without much more success. With all the bizarre, creepy and incompatible persons they meet, they're so close to give up on love until they meet each other through a friend. After a bottle of wine and a long discussion, they start thinking that maybe they were the problem, and that they're too dumb for dating. That's when they decide to make a list of what they individually want and need on a first date and finally decide to try it together. Unfortunately, things rarely go as planned and they will both realize that feelings can't be controlled.
When all else fails, the solution will always be to follow your heart.
7- THE BREAK-UP PLAN
*MAIN GIRL* and Niall's relationship had started when they had barely entered their teenager years. Now, over 10 years later, they feel like something is missing. They didn't know anything else besides each other and it had to change. They still planned on spending forever together but their lack of experiences and mistakes seemed to be an obstacle between them.
They agreed on  break that was not really a break. for six whole months, they would be able to do whatever they wanted to do with whoever they wanted to. Going to parties, leaving for a whole weekend with friends without giving any news, dating and even screwing whoever they wanted, nothing was out of reach.
They only had one rule : honesty. Every friday night, they'd meet and spend the whole night together, talking, making out or just cuddling until they'd fall asleep, to make sure their love was preserved.
Unfortunately, things rarely go as planned and seeing the person you love the most in the world be happy without you is something almost impossible to accept.
A story about angry tears, painful jealousy, sweet sweet revenge and realizing who your real soulmate is. Watch out, it's gonna hurt.
8- HOT MESS
*MAIN GIRL* has always been a bit of a rebel who didn't really care about much. She just enjoyed life the way she wanted to and never really paid attention to anything else. If she wanted something, she did everything she could to get it, no matter who she'd hurt in the process. After a few years away from her hometown, family and friends, she finally comes back to realize that a lot of things have changed. Jumping in her twin brother Liam's life without being invited, she's about to make a mess of everything he had made so much effort to build by flirting with every single one of his friends without any shame. She's not looking for a relationship, she's just looking to have some fun and break a few hearts... but perhaps, she's about to make a mess of her own heart.
Sometimes, you play the game and some other very rare times, the game plays you.
9- 15 Complicated Rules
I have no idea how I got into this mess but somehow, I ended up with 4 different fuck buddies. I thought I was going crazy until I made a strict schedule of the days and time I would see them, and wrote down a few rules I had to respect myself. A useful guide to manege my 4 fuck friends. Monday for my ex boyfriend, tuesday for my co-worker, wednesday for my old best friend and thursday for a family friend. It could work, right?
I've never been much of an organised person but I honestly thought I could make this work. Everything went as planned for a few months until I broke one rule after the other. That's when I knew I was in deep shit. These are my 15 complicated rules to have fuck buddies. And this is the story of my downfall and the incredible mess I put myself into. After all, rule 15 was 'Never Fall In Love' and I guess that's something I couldn't control, even if I wanted to.
10- DISCONNECTED
When *MAIN GIRL* switches college to finally follow her dreams, she was ready to face anything and everything that would come her way. After all, she had been through so much already, right? The problem was, she didn't expect to be stuck in a room with someone who gets on her last nerves because of a paperwork mistake. Despite trying to find an other place to live or spend her time talking to the administration, she had to face the fact that this situation wouldn't change for a few months. Niall knew how to piss her off and he clearly abused that superpower, doing anything and everything he can to annoy the most pretentious and stuck-up person he had ever met. Perhaps fate is having a good laugh, because they seem to get stuck together way more often than not, but it's not until they let down their defense that they will see who the other really is... if that ever happens.
Apparently, some people are in your life to teach you something and make you grow. Perhaps, if you take the time to listen to them and open up to them, your karmic soulmate can turn into your twin flame... or not.
11- NEW ANGEL
When *MAIN GIRL 1* breaks up with Niall, he takes it harder than he thought he would, realizing in the process all the feelings he had for her. After a few weeks locked by himself in his room, his friends take him out on a crazy night and he decides he needs someone else, if only to get over the girl he loves. That’s when he meets *MAIN GIRL 2* and bring her back home.  However, on the next morning, he realizes he doesn't want her to leave, and that despite the feelings he has for *main girl 1*, he could definitely develop something with *main girl 2*. Everything is going amazingly well for a few weeks until what Niall never thought would happen actually happens : *main girl 1* calls him to tell him she regrets leaving him. Now confused and stressed, Niall is going to have to make a choice between the girl he thought he'd spend his life with, and a girl he just met that makes his heart race. And he's going to get help on his journey from someone he would never have thought of.
A story about making choices, creating connections, messy hearts and confusing emotions.
(i have many ideas for this one but i dont want to give everything away!)

Operation Gamestonk
[A short story I may or may not have written while drunk]
Lewis’ entire family was slaughtered by the hated Hedge Fund Knights — they foreclosed his home, stabbed his parents, and set the manor on fire in less than a millisecond. This was the work to be expected of the Hedge Fund Knights: They could kill, flee, and rob people faster than their victims could comprehend. Even the Goldman Company warriors Lewis’ family had hired were beheaded…Lewis himself survived by some act of fate, God, or Satan. Regardless, he dedicated his life to vengeance. He made friends, shared stories, brokered alliances in the only form of currency he knew could match the violence he was grappling with. Lewis did not fight with a sword and shield, but with information. He built his own power on the back of blackmail and betrayal, and in time he afforded himself the opportunity to slaughter those who had wronged him.
But the Hedge Fund Knights returned with renewed vigor, the same way cancer was never truly gone. With nowhere left to turn, Lewis made his way to the one place no one could touch him.
Part I. The Big Short Squeeze
The Palace of Joe Rogan was protected on all sides by water and gorillas. Rogan’s island was fabled throughout the entire world for growing the finest mushrooms and the most exquisite weed. Here, thanks to Rogan’s diplomacy, there was no war. Visitors were free to negotiate as they pleased, but anyone who spilled blood on these sacred grounds was forced to smoke a blunt so potent, only Rogan himself had ever survived its vaporized sweetness.
The palace was made of gold. The armed gorillas who guarded the palace gates nodded to Lewis as he passed, lowered their guns, and stepped aside. Just outside the gates, Lewis could make out the outline of children attempting to catch a glimpse of what was inside. The courtyard featured a massive gorilla statue, along with a statue of their god: Elon Musk.
Rogan was in his chambers, drinking scotch and smoking a blunt. He recognized Lewis immediately.
“Sup, dude!” he said. “Have you ever tried to fight a gorilla?” Rogan was not a tall man, but in his mind’s eye Lewis could envision him sparring with a gorilla and winning.
“Another time,” said Lewis. “I come bearing gifts.” Lewis reached into his bag and produced two sculpted hands, both of them encrusted with diamonds. “Diamond hands.”
“Sick.”
“The time has come,” continued Lewis, “to speak to Musk, our lord and savior. You are the only entity capable of communing with Him, for your weed is powerful enough to summon even a god.”
“Okay.” Rogan crushed weed in his hand, then lined it on the ground in a Tesla logo. As soon as he finished, the powder turned to fire.
“This will take around 30 seconds,” said Rogan. “By the way, have you been in touch with my new friend, Lord Robinhood?”
“Lord Robinhood?” asked Lewis. “How did he become a lord?”
“Not sure.”
“Don’t you need to be rich to buy lordship? If his product is zero commision, how does Lord Robinhood make money?”
“Don’t worry about it.”
Elon Musk was said to have been a bridge between gods and humans, someone who took a mortal form so that ordinary men could speak to someone they understood. Musk would end climate change, build a massive tunnel, and provide humans with immortality long before AI would have the chance to commit mass genocide. But the words of Musk were cryptic. When he spoke, it was through a medium. His words only came several characters at a time.
“Gamestonk,” said Rogan.
“What?”
“That’s all he said. Gamestonk. Do you know what that means?”
“I have to go.”
“Don’t you want to stay and talk about gorillas, first?”
Lewis would sail to his hometown, as quickly as he could, and when he got there he would send ravens to every great king, lord, and priest in the land. The time of reckoning had finally come.
Part II. The Diamond Hands
The city of Gamestop was lame and inefficient — you had to talk to a person to buy anything, and unlike the city of Amazon it had some really bad customer service. When Hedge Fund Knight Kenneth rode in, the Gamestop peasants treated him with scorn…for people so stupid, these ones learned quickly. Before they had time to flee, Kenneth had killed 20 of the town’s youngest children and left a still-bleeding head in the bed of each child’s respective mother.
Their mission was simple: They were going to pretend to supply Gamestop with stores of food and horses, when in reality their intent was to watch the peasants die. They had bet on it. If Gamestop withered and died, like they knew it would, the idiots in Burry would be forced to pay out their lost bet. The Hedge Fund Knights, in their frequent pillaging and raping, knew that it was only a matter of time before Gamestop fell.
But something was off today. Everywhere he looked, Kenneth saw mysterious markings that consisted of a diamond with hands. What did this mean? He caught a hooded man attempting to paint these symbols on a store. In an instant, Kenneth had him by the neck.
“What are you doing?” Kenneth demanded. With surprising force, the hooded man wriggled free. Kenneth drew his sword, produced a magical (and high) frequency, and teleported it direct beneath the hooded man’s throat. As soon as he attempted to make the killing blow, the hooded man grabbed Kenneth’s throat and threw him.
And just like that, in an instant, Kenneth was dead.
The hooded man discarded his robe. He had slicked-blonde hair, sunglasses, and a $20,000 suit. His hands, which had apparently granted him superhuman strength, were no ordinary hands. They were made of diamond.
Around him, the villagers could hear the dreaded high frequency of the Hedge Fund Knights. One by one, each knight reappeared to kill the troublemaker — just as quickly, each Hedge Fund Knight died.
“It can’t be!” said a villager, in disbelief. “Are you…are you with WallStreetBets?”
The man nodded. The first villager kneeled.
“Why are you kneeling?” asked the second villager. “WallStreetBets is nothing but shitposting dumb ass millennials. You know about as much about investing as your average 4Chan user does about being charming.”
“Forgive him!” cried the first villager, “he knows not what he says. I know of your the heroic actions of ControlTheNarrative, as well as your selfless box spreads! You are our saviors, and you are the only ones capable of saving us.
“Now tell me, oh great one, will you save us?”
The man nodded.
“Thank heavens! Musk be good! Will you take Gamestop out of its position?”
“I’ll take it to the moon,” said the man.
Part III. The Citadel
The forces of WallStreetBets were divided. For five days they had held against the combined forces of House Citadel and House Melvin, but their provisions were running low.
It was the afternoon. It was 100 degrees. Lewis thought that this blonde man’s sunglasses were fitting, but not his suit. He must have been sweating bullets.
“Options!” shouted a nearby fisherman, “get your options while they’re fresh!” Lewis ignored him, as did DiamondHands.
“You’ve managed to seize Gamestop,” said Lewis, “what’s your plan now?”
“Hold.”
“What?”
“Hold.”
Lewis was incredulous. Since the Robinhood embargo, a move some believed was the direct result of a bribe from the Hedge Fund Knights to Lord Robinhood himself, many of the WallStreetBets forces had died. Some had taken gold and fled, obviously benefitting from the attack without bearing the risk. Some, in fact the majority, had simply shitposted. They probably died, too, but no one could really keep track of that sort of thing.
“WallStreetBets is chaos,” said Lewis. “Some of you are brilliant, some of you are simply in for the ride. What was all of this for?”
“Hold.”
“Did you ever have a plan? Was this an act of vengeance, a self-interested coup for the sake of profit? What is this? What do you believe in?”
“Holding.”
“Your forces are dwindling. All of this might come apart.”
“It won’t come apart if we hold.”
Lewis looked out at the burning city, the diamond hands flags, and the flag of the shiba inu. He wondered what was coming next.

Are you death or paradise?
(Ron Weasley x Reader)
A/N: apparently im feeling HORRIBLY angsty tonight so here is this heartbreaking fic with my absolute favorite billie eilish song “No time to die”. For reference (Y/H) =your (Hogwarts) house and (Y/H/T)= your hometown for my fellow united state inhabitants..? Well I hope you enjoy this is my first Harry Potter fit but I am hopelessly in love with Ron Weasley <3 so expect more??
word count: 1.8k
warnings: sadness but also badass reader and Hermoine being the bad guy sorry... not sorry
*I don't own this gif credit to the owner!*
Tumblr media
I should've known
I'd leave alone
Just goes to show
That the blood you bleed
Is just the blood you owe
To say you felt defeated was an understatement.
No defeated isn't the right word you felt foolish, played, dumb, and most of all hurt.
You knew there was something between Ron and Hermoine but you turned a blind eye.
Why wouldn't you? You loved Ron more than anything
You wanted to believe him when he said Hermoine was barely a friend.
"Honestly love we just tolerate each other for Harrys' sake."
We were a pair
But I saw you there
Too much to bear
You were my life
But life is far away from fair
Yet here you were walking into the Gryffindor common room and there they were
Kissing.
No, that wasn't enough
how can you describe a kiss that looks like its been waiting for years to be felt,
a kiss that looked like it was oxygen for both people,
a kiss that was full of passion.
Harry was behind you waiting to enter when he almost crashed behind you and was about to ask you what happened when you turned quickly and looked at him red-rimmed eyes and motioned with a single finger for him to not make a sound as you left the common room.
Was I stupid to love you?
Was I reckless to help?
Was it obvious to everybody else
That I'd fallen for a lie?
You were never on my side
Fool me once, fool me twice
Are you death or paradise?
Now you'll never see me cry
Looking back you remember telling yourself that you didn't let him see you cry because he didn't deserve to see you so vulnerable.
But in all honesty, you didn't want him to see you cry so you would never have to mention this incident.
You were willing to turn a blind eye to his infidelity because you loved him so much.
Who had you let yourself become?
You knew it was going to come up eventually especially if the two of them wanted to carry on with their new relationship who were you to jeopardize that?
There's just no time to die
I let it burn
You're no longer my concern
Faces from my past return
Another lesson yet to learn
That I'd fallen for a lie
You were never on my side
"How could I have let him fool me ?" You asked aloud to Cho.
Neither of you spoke very often considering you being in (Y/H) and her being in Ravenclaw.
But she saw you crying in the corridor
and girls help girls in need when boys break their hearts.
The two of you were sitting on the stairs leading to the grand hall.
You couldn't help but think back to a happier time when you had finally gotten the courage to ask Ron to the yule ball.
But he watched her the whole night, you were blind
And everyone else saw what you chose to ignore.
"I knew there was something between them and I still thought I was better, somehow different
I still thought he could love me, not her."
"Hey, this is not your fault. He is a coward and a complete idiot if he can't see how perfect you are." Cho explained as gently as she could but she couldn't hide her anger for the red-headed git.
"I appreciate that Cho. I'm starting to think this school is cursed," you laughed lightly.
You were from the United States specifically (Y/H/T). It was your decision whether to go to Hogwarts or Ilvermorny and foolishly you choose to go to Hogwarts and were currently living with a distant relative of your mothers'.
"What if I just went to Ilvermorny back home?"
Cho looked completely aghast. "You mean you'd leave?"
"I don't see why not it's our last year sure but I was planning on moving back home after graduation anyways. This makes it easier to make connections and find a job back home don't you think?"
Cho didn't know what to think. Yes, Ron hurt you but enough to make you want to completely leave your professors, your friends, and more importantly him?
"You would leave without saying goodbye?" Cho said sadly.
"Nothing is for certain. But I'll send an owl to my parents. They've been trying to convince me to come home for a while maybe they were right."
Fool me once, fool me twice
Are you death or paradise?
Now you'll never see me cry
There's just no time to die
The days after the incident,
you referred to it like this because it made it easier to talk about like it was a car crash or an explosion, not a red-headed goofball you carelessly trusted,
you held your head high through the halls.
'You will not let him see you fall' you told yourself. You were reckless to put your heart on the line like that for him. But what's that saying 'Only fools fall in love' well it couldn't be truer.
Some days were easier than others you had spoken to the head of your house and made up an elaborate sudden illness that would sometimes make it impossible to go to class.
So that covered your classes.
But Ron...
You never spoke to him.
It was easier this way.
Made ripping the bandage off easier.
You went up to the three of them in the courtyard ignoring how Rons' eyes lit up when he saw you coming towards them.
You turned to Hermoine she looked beyond frightened at your cold and calculated stare.
"I was hoping I could have my ancient runes textbook back Miss Granger? I let you borrow it last week"
Hermoine was confused not about the incident Harry had given the two of them an earful when you left the common room.
As far as Hermoine knew you weren't taking ancient runes anymore.
"Are you going to be taking the course again?" She asked politely hoping this met you'd put the whole thing behind you. As if it wasn't a big deal.
You bit your tongue to refrain from saying "like it's any of your business Granger".
"I am. At Ilvermorny, next term. So if you could just leave it in the (Y/H) common room the password is 'paradise falls' I'd appreciate it."
You were feeling very grateful at your ability to remain completely stoic to their gaping mouths at the news that you were transferring.
You glanced over in Harrys' direction.
He was one of the few people that made leaving Hogwarts more difficult.
"Ilvermorny?" He spoke almost as if the word was an insult.
"The wizarding school in America." You replied.
Barely above a whisper, you heard Ron stutter, "W-Why?"
This was the first time you had looked at him since the incident.
He looked for lack of a better word, horrible.
You wanted to scream and shout and cry and rip his head off.
But instead, you gave him a once over from head to toe.
Silently reprimanding him for even thinking you owed him a reason.
Regardless you spoke calmly "Personal reasons Mr. Weasley."
You glanced at the three of them, the golden tiro, the one you trusted the most was the most responsible for the pain you were feeling.
Feeling like you were detached from your voice you said, "It was lovely to have met the three of you and I am fortunate to have had the pleasure of attending the same school.
Goodbye"
You looked Ron in the eyes impassively when speaking the last word.
No time to die
No time to die
Fool me once, fool me twice
Are you death or paradise?
Now you'll never see me cry
There's just no time to die
You had no time to lose yourself over a boy.
You were an adult and so was Ronald.
So why were there tears falling uncontrollably when you left the courtyard?
Because he dug his claws deep into your heart and soul. That's why.
Oddly enough you kept thinking about his family.
Rons' mother was such an amazing woman.
Speaking of amazing women Ginny was going to grow up and change the world
You knew it.
You never formally met Percy considering his poor decision making.
Bill and Charlie never faltered in making you feel protected and cared for.
And most of all Fred and George made you laugh until your stomach hurt.
You smiled at the thought before running into someone. Or someones?
Attempting to wipe your tears quickly you looked up to find Fred and George looking at you confused.
"Y/N?"
Your heart broke you didn't have it in you to pretend to be strong and made out of marble.
You owed it to yourself to feel what you wanted to feel.
Nor were you going to hold back and keep Rons' secrets for him, he did not deserve that.
He deserved the whole world to know he broke you.
"Hey, guys." You managed a weak, half-hearted smile.
Fred and George looked at each other and simultaneously said "What did he do?"
Jokingly expecting your tears to be for someone else and not their kind little brother.
But when you didn't laugh and let out a downright broken sob they knew it was something extremely serious.
Without question, the twins embraced you and let you wholly release everything you were holding in.
Just then Ron came running down the corridor
"Please Y/N Let me explain it wasn't what it looked-" he spoke breathlessly behind but stopped abruptly when he saw his brothers disappointed expressions. You backed out of the warm encircle.
You took a deep breath. A shaky breath but a deep one none the less.
"Thank you for accepting me into your home. Please let your mother know she is the kindest woman in the world."
Ron spoke behind you "Please my love. Talk to me. Look at me I'm begging"
You turned with such fury and speed Fred and George thought you were going to take your wand out and curse their brother.
You stood silent. In front of the boy, you would've given the world to. Maybe even now you still would.
"You do not get to speak to me. You do not get to 'explain yourself'. You do not get to say anything to me. I fell for a lie. It was my mistake believing you. I have nothing for you, Ronald Weasley."
You watched him slowly fall apart.
You wanted to feel something
Pride
Anger
Something. But you were drained of every emotion you had given everything to Ron.
You turned to Fred and George and smiled dispiritedly.
From behind you, you could hear one of the twins say "Let her go, mate. You messed up. You lost her."
And left. Alone
Just as you had arrived.

Recontextualizing Saix after KH3
I don’t know about y’all, but I never actually pegged Saix as a jealous or hurting person before KH3.
Maybe I was just horribly misguided in his character, maybe I was entirely oblivious, but his exasperation toward Axel over the course of the series always just seemed like two things to me--1. his personality, and 2. a complete lack of understanding on what the hell the guy was doing. In Days, it was abundantly clear that they were planning something, with Saix cozying up to Xemnas and Axel laying low and handling the dirty work. So when Axel started running around with Xion & Roxas and losing focus, I to a degree was able to interpret Saix’s feelings on the matter. To me, it always just seemed like frustration. Compound that with the fact that Axel was clearly growing his heart back through his connection with Sora while Saix was slowly but surely getting norted, and the divide between them seemed entirely inevitable. Axel follows his heart and Saix follows his head, and all the animosity between them made sense entirely given the circumstances. Axel was taken with his emotions. Saix could barely remember emotions. It didn’t seem that complex from where I was standing.
Christ, was I wrong.
I remember reading takes that Saix was secretly hurting, that he was jealous of his best friend’s relationship with these two kids who popped up seemingly out of nowhere. But that narrative of them just didn’t click for me, it seemed too contrived, it seemed like something that would be given at least some blatant focus in a series that holds your hand like Kingdom Hearts. To me, it was a take that seemed designed for fic, for angst, for fanon. Which I was more than okay with, and I reveled in it all the same--I just didn’t think it was canon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
KH3 didn’t just kick me in the balls. It kicked me in the balls, robbed me, and laughed as it ran away.
For Saix to simply say that he was jealous, that would completely re-frame his character enough to make it unbearably tragic. For him to sit here and say that watching his best friend make other friends literally threw him so far into despair he lost his will to go on, well. Holy shit.
Before this, what did we know of him? Isa was a young kid and Lea was his best friend. They had a playful, if not a little antagonistic friendship. For reasons unknown, they were intent to sneak into the castle in their hometown of Radiant Garden, where experiments of the heart were taking place unbeknownst to the general public. They lost their hearts there, became Saix and Axel, and have since spent about a decade working for Xemnas in the organization. Seemingly, Saix’s plan was to get as close to Xemnas as possible in order to execute some sort of betrayal. Axel’s plan was handle most of the dirty work as the organization’s assassin. Over the course of that decade, they drifted apart, Xemnas got his claws in Saix, Axel made some new friends, and Saix viewed them entirely with scorn, even treating one of them as an object rather than a person. Eventually, Axel defected from the organization after more or less having his friends ripped away and traumatized in front of his face. Saix stayed, seemingly loyal to Xemnas until the very end.
In KH2 and Days, without the knowledge KH3 provides, Saix is a monster. The monotonous whisper of his voice is chilling at times, there is so rarely a single trace of emotion in him. He is cold, calculating, and actively toys with the protagonist. He doesn’t even seem to revel in manipulating and beating down Sora, it simply seems like something he knows must be done. More on that later.
There is not a single moment in these two games where you’re ever meant to sympathize with Saix. He’s a villain.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The narrative wastes no time in framing Saix as one of the most despicable in the organization. When you play BBS and get to see who he was before, that is the closest thing you really have to a moment where you feel for him--he seemed like such a normal kid before, and this is what he is now. Sadistic and cold and completely void of compassion.
Maybe, maybe you might unearth a little sympathy for him in some of his vague comments in days--where he laments that the past is long gone and that Axel seems to be straying from their plan together. But a mystery plan with an old friend poised up against Axel’s turmoil in trying to protect these two kids, you’re probably a lot more likely to take Axel’s side in the divorce. I sure as hell did.
Knowing all we know about Saix now, though, the entire fucking script is flipped on its head. Saix goes from an unemotional villain to someone who is hurting so badly it has utterly and completely consumed him.
Most notably, him in KH2 is probably him at his most tragic. And it hit me like a freight train when I was reminded of this scene--
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Gonna be real, I never actually like...... thought about this conversation? Like, what the fuck are they talking about here. I’m kind of a dumbass, and also I can replay the same game 17 fucking times without ever really thinking about some of the dialogue. It only just hit me recently what this interaction is about.
Charade? What ‘charade,’ dude?
So you backpedal. He’s asking Xemnas if Kingdom Hearts is ready, which really translates to ‘hey, do we need Sora to still be fighting heartless?’ and Xemnas is like, nah we’re good. What charade is leading to Sora doing that? And that’s when you realize like... oh. Oh.
Saix’s whole manipulative coldhearted demon thing is an act here. His entire presence interacting with the protagonist in this game basically is just him showing up, being like ‘we got Kairi! Neener neener!’ and then watching in satisfaction as Sora goes apeshit on every heartless within a ten mile radius. The more him & his buddies piss Sora off, the more captive hearts he releases, the faster Kingdom Hearts is complete. It’s just a work day, for him, playing with this child’s emotions.
He’s asking here, ‘Can I stop pretending like I want to toy with him?’
He’s asking here, ‘Do we need him alive still, Superior?’
He’s asking here, ‘Can I waste this fucking kid?’
Because it doesn’t matter who’s face he’s wearing. To Saix, that is Roxas. The boy who took away his best friend.
Tumblr media
The next time Sora sees Saix after this scene, Saix wastes no time. His weapon is in his hand long before Sora enters the room. When he does, Saix doesn’t address him. He addresses only Roxas.
Cue one of the most batshit wild fights in the entire fucking game. The chilling dude you’ve been dealing with since the game’s halfway point is actually a werewolf, and on top of that he’s more or less a fire elemental too. Claymores are thrown, teenage boys are smacked around like fucking pinatas, the room is entirely cloaked in blue flame, and Saix is fucking screaming in utter and complete rage the entire time.
(I could go on and on about the symbolism of blue flames, how their colour invokes a feeling of calm but they actually burn hotter than red ones. What that says about Saix’s emotions, his own inner turmoil, the facade he presents. I won’t today.)
Saix doesn’t hold back. This fight is the culmination of everything, you realize in hindsight. Unbeknownst to you, the player, you are the manifestation of all his pain and hurt. You ripped everything from his hands. You took one of his best friends, and in turn you took two. Axel abandoned both him and their third because you, light of the universe, wormed your way into his newborn heart and rekindled a dead fire that made him juggle his past and his present.
Saix has spent this entire game wanting you dead. This fight is not beef between the hero and the villains. This fight is strictly personal, though unrequited. To Saix, this is his last chance to take revenge on what hollowed him out, took his future from him, left him all alone and directionless. Nothing to account for a decade in isolation and pain but yellow eyes and empty hands and an even emptier chest.
I’m the queen of reading too much into battle taunts, but they DO have a good deal of importance in KH. One of Axel’s when he’s fighting Roxas, for instance, is ‘do I ring any bells, yet?’ In hindsight, one of Saix’s is pretty fucking heartbreaking, and I did always find it out of place until now--on occasion, he’ll shout ‘Move aside!’
Much like Axel’s obsession with being remembered, and the tragic irony in his best friend forgetting him, there is a certain creed to be found in Saix’s battle taunts. In KH2, it’s “All shall be lost to you,” and in Days, it’s “I will leave you with nothing.”
The first time Saix fades, he is all alone. He has no one and nothing. Back in 2006, when KH2 was all we knew of him, this is the only moment the game really allows you to feel for him, if you’re the particularly sympathetic type. His last words are him crumbling finally, wondering to what end he’d have to go to just to glimpse some semblance of a happy end.
Tumblr media
He dies on his feet, not even kneeling, even after giving his all in the fight. Even in death, he stands on his own, relies on himself. It’s all he has left.
The second time he fades, he collapses into the arms of the person he loves most. Blows upon blows, they have torn each other to nothing, and Lea holds him as he’s dying. Makes sure the last thing he sees before he goes is the face of a person who’s going to have one hell of an apology once he reforms. Someone who, knowing all he knows now, is never going to put him through something so isolating and horrible again.
Lea’s arms around Saix are a promise, the same promise Lea will repeat time and time again until he’s dead and gone. This time, he makes sure Isa can hear it, resolves to never lose sight of it again.
Saix’s last words the first time were “Where is my heart?”
Saix’s last words the second time were the answer--
“Lea.”

PHCK ME - Reed900 Fic Rec List
Hello!!! You might not remember, but awhile back I mentioned I had the start of a fic rec list that I planned to post (which I never did). To celebrate all 1K+ of you, I thought I would finish the list for you! It is my duty as a loyal reed900 servant.
DISCLAIMER: This list of reccomendations was made purely out of personal opinion. I by no means want to discredit any other fics/authors. Some may not agree with my choices, and that’s totally understandable. I just wanted to share these fics because I personally enjoyed them <3
I didn’t include some fics because they haven’t been updated in a long time, or I didn’t remember them enough to give them accurate reviews. Also, I’m sure there are many more fics that I forgot to put on here (these are from my ao3 bookmarks). I might include them in a future update.
Anyways, all of my recs are under the cut! There are a lot!! I had eight pages worth of them in my documents haha
Mint Condition - by itsdefinitive - Mature - Content warnings - Chapters 18/? - Reed could see what they were going for there -- the whole infallible super-soldier thing.  A monument to testosterone made perfect, cast in steel within plastic.  It was actually really creepy.  Maybe that was on purpose.
The first reed900 fic I read, and it’s honestly what got me into the pairing itself.
Charon - by Vapewraith - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 20/20 - Gavin Reed, a mess of a human being, just wants to be left to his self destructive tendencies. RK900, an android designed by the most brilliant minds in the world to be the perfect machine, is desperate to grasp the full range of emotional freedom now afforded to him. The two will need to find an equilibrium before their incompatible personalities—and an eccentric serial killer with a dangerous piece of tech—swallow them whole.
I can’t even describe how much I love this fic. I’m a slut for horror, and there’s plenty of that in here. It might just be my favorite. Definitely recommend.
Two Sides of a Vaguely Similar Coin - by ZombiBird - Mature - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 13/? - RK900 is lost.
It’s been months since the Revolution and he’s still no closer to figuring out what the hell he’s supposed to be doing with himself. He feels like an outsider in his own body. Completely detached, nothing more than a quiet observer; like he’s looking down at the world through a layer of glass instead of fully living in it.
Gavin Reed is a temperamental asshole.
This isn’t news, okay? Gavin’s fully aware of what he is. He burns bridges instead of building them. Bites hands instead of shaking them. Would rather drown in a sea comprised of the consequences of his faults and misdeeds than try to change the way he is. Because people like him? Maybe they deserve to drown.
[Alternatively: Both lost in different ways, Gavin and RK900 try to figure their shit out and end up learning that, sometimes, it takes two people who have absolutely no idea what the hell they’re doing to get a goddamn clue.]
I don’t remember much about this fic, if I’m honest. Not that the story is forgettable, it’s just been awhile since I read it. However, the title definitely stood out to me so I know it was very good :P
Captcha Encryption - by Cerulaine - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Content warnings - Chapters 18/? - It's a little over a year after the android uprising and it's still the end of the fucking world.
Back in the day when things became shit he used to enjoy a drink or two. Or Five. It all depended on how long the shift ran. After 'The Accident' he can't even cough without Nines breathing down his neck anymore.
He just wishes everything would go back to normal, but if there's anything Gavin has learned it's that you can't unring a bell once it's been rung.
Or whatever. Fuck if he knows.
Similar situation to the last fic: I don’t remember much about it (my memory SUCKS), but I do remember thoroughly enjoying this one.
Daydreamer - by Pence - Mature - Content warnings - Chapters 21/24 - Large purple bruises twined prettily around the corpse’s throat, every finger defined in perfect cruelty. His eyes tore away from the handprints as a cold finger traced the lightning strike scar across the center of his face—drawing his attention to a small, blue lipped smile.
“Do you think you’ll ever leave this town, Gavin?”
________
When a series of Detroit murders are linked as originating in his hometown, Gavin Reed is unwillingly assigned the case. Fowler insists that his history with the place and people will hugely benefit such an investigation.
He was fucking wrong.
This fic is one big holy shit moment tbh. Really fantastic. Really makes you wonder why these authors aren’t paid to do this.
All Aboard the Underground Railroad - by Senjihae - No Rating - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 11/? - What starts as sticking it towards his half brother evolves into something with the potential to rewrite android history as he knows it. Gavin doesn't realize what he gets himself into until he is mistaken as the 'Android Messiah' of all things. It's not like he goes out of his way to help them, but his life gets a lot harder once Hank is assigned a shiny new boy toy ('sent by CyberLife').
Things only get worse when he's gifted a heap of metal of his own ('sent by Elijah Kamski').
(Yeah, fuck off Elijah)
Very interesting fic. Gavin is RA9 so that’s a thing. A nice slow burn!
Dragon Become Age - by errantwheat - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Content Warnings - Chapters 11/? - Y’all wanted me to write dragon age!au so I did :)
YES! YES! YES! DRAGON AGE AU! YES! YES! YES! (it’s really gud)
Warmth - by TheRedPaladin101 - Teen and Up Audiences - No Warnings - Chapters 1/1 - Gavin frowned, the aching in his shoulder fading from his mind for a moment. “Then give me my jacket.”
“Your jacket is in no condition to keep you warm,” he stated. “For now, use mine and stay warm while we wait to head back to the station.”
----
Five times RK900 gave Gavin Reed his jacket, and one time Gavin gave his in return.
Very wholesome. Lives up to its title. Some good ole hurt/comfort!
Letifer - Terminallydepraved - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 19/19 - Gavin Reed is a DPD beat cop determined to make detective by any means possible, and putting an end to a string of murders looks like the quickest way to accomplishing that goal. Unfortunately for him, he fails to account for the real culprit— or the thought that perhaps he isn't the only one on the hunt for a killer.
(Now with cover art by Leetmorry!)
I love beat cop!gavin. It humbles him. And vampire!nines is scary and amazing. Love how the author wrote both of these characters (and the others too!). I definitely recommend this one!
A Strange and Beautiful Creature -  by LittleLalaith - General audiences - No warnings - Chapters 7/7 - Scientist Nines is called in to Amanda's lab to assist with a new discovery - a genuine Mermaid.
While Amanda is indifferent to the creature's circumstances, Nines builds an unlikely connection to the specimen and they grow a little closer than either of them expected.
(AKA Gavin is a sassy sea slug and Nines thrills in breaking the safety protocols)
Mermaid au! Nines wants to save mermaid Gavin, and it’s all very wholesome.
I Think You Do - by spotlightonmringenue - Teen and Up Audiences - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 16/? - “Son of a bitch, there’s another one. What the fuck is it doing,” Gavin says, grip going white on the gun as the android continues to stare at him without acknowledging Connor.
“RK900, my name is Connor. I’m part of a group called Jericho that recovered you from Cyberlife’s Production Center late yesterday. We are currently in the Detroit Police Department Central Station. Are you feeling okay?”
“It doesn’t feel shit,” Gavin mumbles, resisting the urge to step back as the RK900 takes a step closer. It holds out the cup, and Gavin’s eyes dart to it for only a second before flipping between Connor and his doppelganger.
“You requested coffee,” it says, and Hank sighs, leaning back against his desk while rubbing a hand over his forehead.
Quality ‘enemies to friends’ content. Nines is intimidating. Gavin is confused. Good times.
Flying with Crooked Wings - by UnCon - Mature - No warnings - Chapters 20/? - “Listen, kid,” Gavin started, cutting off the desolate child. Sure it was sad his dog had died but it wasn’t Gavin’s fault no one taught the little twerp chocolate was a dog’s kryptonite, “he’s in a better place, alright, so if you’d just stop asking for him to come back—it’d be much appreciated.”
“You promise?” the eight-year-old asked, his big brown eyes looking like glass—fragile and sparkly.
“Yeah,” Gavin lied, looking away as he did it—his halo going a bit crooked. To be honest, he wasn’t sure where dogs went after they died, only that he was tasked with calming the little boys and girls who despaired after them—at least until his punishment was up. “So just, you know, go to sleep and all that.”
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In a world where angels and demons inhabit the same earth, both searching for a way to overthrow the other, both failing--Gavin sits right in the middle, with a crooked halo and a pair of wings to match. It's not enough to be a bit mischievous, however, he also has to get caught up in the demon brothers' scheme to take over heaven. Perfect.
Really good! This fic has the interesting dynamic of Gavin as an angel and Nines as a demon. Check it out!
The Red String Will Still Connect Us Ten Thousand Miles Apart (and to the moon and back) - by Jillflur - Teen and Up - Content warnings - Chapters 5/5 - Gavin, an ‘unlovable’ man without a Soulmate. He was used to it, never had one since he could remember. However, that little fact changes when he wakes up one day and realizes that he suddenly has a Red String connected to his ring finger. It only gets worse when months later, an android walks into the precinct who apparently is his new Soulmate!
Can androids even have Soulmates?!
To make everything even more complicated, a sudden new killer is on the Streets, and he murders people by cutting their Red Strings!
A soulmate fic by our very own jillflur! So good. Amazin. I love the red string trope so much. Yall should big read.
the prince & the reed - by Pence - Mature - Content warnings - Chapters 2/? - "I wanted to marry you," the prince murmured, polished armor gleaming as he stared down at the injured man--icy eyes tinged with sadness. Regret.
A guttural scream ripped from the soldier's throat as a heel dug into his wound, arm coated crimson from his weeping shoulder.
The soldier's teeth were stained pink as he jerked his chin up to grin toothily at the other man, bloody fingers scrambling down his thigh in search of the dagger tucked into his boot.
"Then drop to your knees and ask me properly, Nines."
Okay this fic is only two chapters and hasn’t been updated in awhile but GOT DAMN do I love how the author set this medieval fic up. I’m a slut for the medieval au’s, so that’s just extra points.
Not a teacher but I can teach you a thing or two - by Adishailan - Teens and Up - No warnings - Chapters 20/20 - Gavin owed the walking hunk of plastic. He owed him. Ugh, Gavin hated owing people stuff. It gave him a horrible feeling in his stomach, like indigestion, except worse because it involved emotionsTM. This, coupled with the fact he was pumped up with drugs and suffering a concussion, was why he was about to make a terrible, terrible mistake.
“‘Kay. Fine. Thanks or whatever. Lemme know if you ever need anythin' prick.”
RK900’s LED went yellow at this, and this time Gavin was pretty sure he was doing the processing thing. It was still yellow even when he nodded in a serious way and said:
“That would be useful.”
Oh man this one is BIG CUTE! It’s so soft, and is a fantastic slow burn. I totally recommend this fic.
O May I Join the Choir Invisible - by BanishedOne - Mature - No warnings - Chapters 13/? - Gavin Reed was a new inmate at a prison where the infamous killer, R. Nathan Kearney, was on death row. Circumstances led to an unfortunate encounter.
Okay don’t quote me on this but I think you can find the rest of this fic on Twitter. It was posted in a bunch of seperate posts and it was really confusing but there was definitely extra chapters. You can find the post here (or at BanishedOne on twitter). Other than that, this is a really good fic! The boys get into a lot of trouble!
Neon Maps - by caffienefueledfeels - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Content warnings - Chapters 11/11 - Everyone has their limits. Gavin is about to discover several of his own.
He's broke, barely scraping along, and struggling to keep an aggressive black-mailer off his back. On top of that, the grey-eyed distraction in his bed is about to test his heart in more ways than one.
Cyberpunk fic!! Super interesting! Go check it out!
Computers Are Elaborate Cat Beds, Actually - by errantwheat - No Rating - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 6/? - “Marvelous find, Gavin. They’ll promote you for this, surely.”
Gavin pulled an exaggerated frown. He was awfully animated for a robot. “Jesus, What kind of human are you? I’m waving a fucking kitten in your face and you’re still a bitch.”
Really cute. I’m pretty sure there’s some art to go with this fic. Super duper cute reverse au!
More Than a Woman, More Than a Bride - by AvixiLynn91 - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Content warnings - Chapters 38/? - When Gavin’s life is threatened for the last time by a violent gang expanding the production of a new drug in Detroit, Captain Fowler must come up with a plan for his safety. Perhaps forcing a marriage between Nines and Gavin wasn’t the best solution he could come up with...
Oh man. This fic. Let me tell you. I’ve been with this fic since the beginning and it is one hell of a roller coaster XD. The author updates constantly, it’s really impressive.
More Like You - by Mooneye - Teen and Up - No warnings - Chapters 1/1 - “This next bit’s going to get awkward. I’m going to interface with you.”
At that he could feel the collective confusion in the room. His eyes darted up to look at Hank and then Nines. They both seemed eerily still and were possibly thinking that Gavin had surely lost his mind.
Gavin has kept his prosthetic arm, with good reason, a secret from humans and androids alike for as long as he’s had it. The prospect of losing Nines threatens to unravel everything, but perhaps it’s worth the cost.
The idea of Gavin (an android hater in-game) having a prosthetic-android arm is definitely interesting!
An Unforeseen Union - by AvixiLynn91 - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 16/16 - Gavin and Nines are sent undercover to investigate a slew of brutal murders at a gay counselling and therapy resort for androids and humans. They're forced to pose as a couple, but soon feel their relationship becoming more than an act as real feelings develop.
I loved the dramatic whodunnit vibes in this fic! It gets crazy :P
The Great DPD Kink-Off - by connorssock, LittleLalaith, Skye_Willows, Stujet9rainshine - Explicit: only suitable for adults - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 24/24 - It started out as a bit of rivalry and turned into a competition. Who was the kinkiest android in town?
If you like smut, then read this. That is all I will say.
The Black Nights, The Long Dark - by bvssbot - Explicit - Content warnings - Chapters 8/12 - translation of an amazing russian fic тёмные ночи, долгая тьма (the dark nights, the long darkness) into english
An unknown catastrophe was the reason Gavin ended up stranded alone on a godforsaken Canadian island. Having almost made peace with the thought of living in solitude for the rest of his days, he saves the life of a pilot named Richard, whose airplane crashed in the middle of his humanitarian mission.
Shit, I loved ‘The Long Dark’ and I love this fic. I don’t speak russian, unfortunately, so I must wait to read the end. But this is still amazing and you all should read it.
Detroit: Outlast - by Cardboardghost - Mature - Content warnings - Chapters 1/? - Connor Upshur is a down on his luck reporter, who spends his nights getting drunk and passing out at home. A mysterious email calls him to Mount Massive Asylum, owned by the Cyberlife corporation. Armed with nothing but a camera and his wits, Connor must brave the asylum's horrors and find way to save the people Cyberlife stole from him.
Gavin Park is a beat cop looking for a more well paying job. So when an offer to work private security at the Cyberlife corporation all but falls into his lap, how could he refuse? Gavin quickly realizes things are not what they seem, and in an attempt to expose Cyberlife, he ends up further in their clutches. Now he and Connor must work together to claw their way out of the asylum's depths, and the familiar faces that wait inside those walls.
This fic only has onw chapter, but go check out Cardboardghost’s art if you finish reading this!! They have provided so much quality content for the Outlast/DBH crossover I didn’t know I needed.
Gin & Tonic - by limchi - Explicit - No warnings - Chapters 8/? - People didn’t like Gavin Reed. Gavin Reed didn’t like people. It went together like gin and tonic, you can’t have one without the other. Nines hated him and he hated Nines. Those were the rules they played by, the rules that couldn't be changed - until fate decided they could.
It turned Gavin into pretending to dislike and Nines into a dense idiot with a crush, unable to grasp the concept of love. Both in utter denial. The catch: gravity worked against them, pulled them together at a frightening pace. Push against and defy the rules of nature or go along the prevailing forces?
Your friendly neighborhood reed900 fic. Very epic slow burn and fluff (and a hint of angst tbh). I definitely recommend!
Bitter Half - by turnabout - Mature - Author chose not to warn for content - Chapters 5/5 - Gavin Reed was born unmarked, and had spent his entire life expecting to die like he lived - alone. It isn't until Tina points out the new serial number on his chest that he realizes everything is about to change. Whether that's for better or for worse is up to him.
I’m a sucker for soulmate fics and this one does not disappoint!
K-900 - by Serazimei - Teen and Up - No warnings - Chapters 3/3 - Gavin and Nines were a great team. Unfortunately they were both huge workaholics. That's why when Nines' body gets busted on a job and the needed parts aren't available yet chaos is inevitable. Needing to choose between waiting and potentially being of no use at work or participate in one of Kamskis experiments and transfer his mind into an Android dog the decision is easy to make.
Who knew being in a dog body could become such a hassle? Not Nines, that's for sure.

Their Girlfriend isn’t Close to Her Family Anymore// Got7
Request: heyyy could I plz request a got7 scenario where their girlfriend isn’t close to their family anymore and he supports her? Thanks you 🙏🏻🙏🏻💙💙
Pair: Got7 x Reader
Genre: Angsty, slight fluff
Warnings: Oof. Mentions of alcoholism, abuse, abandonment, and death. Nothing too crazy though. Also, it’s long. As fuck.
Words: 4.46k
(A/N: First off, yay! I’m back! Second, I wasn’t sure if anon wanted the whole group or one member so I just did them all so it’s like a scenario/reaction kinda thing.)
Mark
The day was fairly silent as you and Mark continued to clean around your apartment. Well, you were cleaning as Mark sat on your sofa watching television, when, suddenly, your phone began to ring from the coffee table in front of him. You trusted one another enough to go through each other’s phones and even answer phone calls. So, when he saw the words ‘Mother’ appear, he immediately answered, partially from his instincts but mainly because this would be the first time he’s met her, even if it wasn’t in person.
“Hello? (Y/n)?” The woman’s voice was shocked yet relieved, causing him to smile at the way she said your name in a loving way.
“I’m Mark, her boyfriend.”
“B-boyfriend?” Her pained voice confused him. She was your mother, surely you told her about him, right?
“Mark! Who is it?” You asked, not taking your eyes off the pan you were scrubbing profusely as he approached you, placing the phone to your ear with a small, “it’s your mom”.
In that moment, you felt sick to your stomach, your glove covered hands dropping the scouring pad as you turned and pressed the end call button bitterly, hanging up without another word before returning to your previous chore.
Mark had never seen you like this. Your cheeks puffed out and lips pursed together angrily as you took your frustrations out on the poor pan that was overly clean, almost being restored to its original silver color.
“Why did you hang up on her?” He finally asked, watching you carefully as you rinsed the cooking sheet and place it onto the nearby drying rack.
“My mother and I aren’t close.” You said bluntly, hoping that’d be the end of the discussion as you tossed the gloves onto the side of the sink, trying to walk by without making eye contact with Mark.
“Maybe you would be if you actually talked with her.”
You froze, a bit hurt and angry at how true his words were. But how can you explain that you could never rebuild a relationship with the woman that left you to raise yourself since you were 5? That the only times you ever saw her, she was drunk and angry or passed out from a bender? That even once she got her life together, you could never see her as anything other than an alcoholic mess?
“Not everyone can be best friends with their parents, Mark. Some of us don’t get the privilege to say we even have parents. And if I’ve been doing just fine for the past twenty years without her, why do I suddenly have to be the bigger person just because she feels guilty for the shit she caused?”
You hadn’t realized your eyes were glossed over, burning as you took in a shaky breath to keep yourself together. Mark felt bad for not knowing these things about you, assuming it was just the distance keeping you from visiting home, having you insist on being with him and his family every holiday or just staying at your apartment alone rather than being with her. The worse part being that, whether you saw her again or continued to ignore her, it’d hurt you.
You don’t flinch at the sudden feeling of arms around you, your head instantly pressing into the side of Mark’s neck as he held onto you.
“I’m sorry, (Y/nickname). But I think you should talk to her, just for some closure. Whether you see her again or not is your choice and I promise I won’t bother you about it anymore.”
Jaebum
Jaebum held onto your hand and you sniffled loudly, choking back tears as you stood over her coffin. The woman before you was your grandmother, yet she raised you since the day you were born, never once treating you any differently just because she technically wasn’t your mother. But she was the only mother you’ve ever known. Your father had passed not long after your first meeting, and the day you met your real mother, you made sure it was your last. She didn’t even deserve the title of a parent.
Even with all the problems you faced, all the times you cried over the years of pain and conflict you felt from your family’s dysfunction, Jaebum stood by you and listened, being understanding and compassionate when you needed him most.
He sighed sadly and leaned forward to place a small kiss to the frail, lifeless body, pulling back just enough to see her greyish features.
“Thank you for raising an amazing daughter.” He spoke lowly before standing to level with you, wrapping an arm around your shoulders to guide you to your seats when, suddenly, a loud scream was heard, your heads turning to the entrance in shock.
“We told you, you aren’t allowed here!”
“I’m here to see my fucking mother. Get off of me!” You could feel your grimace grow as you watched (Y/Mother/N) push through the line of people coming to view your grandmother’s body, her feet stopping her just a few steps away from the casket but, intentionally, right in front of you.
“(Y/n),” She breathed, opening her arms to embrace you but you just took a step back.
You weren’t sure how to react. Part of you wanted to turn away and ignore her, but part of you wanted to punch her and whoever told her the location of the funeral. It wasn’t that she didn’t have the right to see her mother one last time, it was the fact this was the first time in years she had thought to do so.
“You have five seconds to leave or I swear I’m calling the cops.” You growled, Jaebum lacing your fingers together to remind you that he was still there and that her presence shouldn’t and won’t affect you.
“I just wanted to see her. And I wanted to make sure you were alrigh-“ You flinched at the way she reached out to touch your hair, your hand instinctively reaching up to slap it away.
“I’m alright. I have been ever since you abandoned me.”
“I didn’t abandon you. I had to figure myself out and get my life together. I was always going to come back for you, (Y/nickname), and I did.”
“I wish you never came back.” You admitted, your face stoic as you watched hurt flash over her features.
“And your five seconds are up. Leave.” Without another word, you turned and let Jaebum silently drag you to your seats, his eyes staring at you with concern as everyone tried to return to their mourning, despite the interruption.
A stray tear rolled down your cheek, your hand practically squeezing Jaebum’s as you stared ahead. He couldn’t tell if it was still your grandmother’s death or your mother’s arrival upsetting you, but he knew it wasn’t the right time to bother you on it. Instead, he brought your hand to his lips, placing a soft kiss to it before relaxing at the small sigh you released, your head resting onto his shoulder as you continued to mourn the loss of both your mothers.
Jackson
“I’m nervous.” You giggled as Jackson continued to lead you through his apartment, his hands covering your eyes as you weaved about aimlessly.
“Okay, close your eyes for me.” You nodded at his instructions, your eyes clenched shut as he stepped away. You listened closely to the shuffling and footsteps, Jackson’s warmth at your side once more as he eagerly stared at you.
“Okay. Open them now.” You anxiously opened them, excited to see what the random surprise was considering it was neither of your birthdays nor your anniversary.
But, as soon as your eyes opened, your smile fell. You watched the computer screen as your parents stared at you silently with tear-filled eyes, unsure of if they should speak first or you.
This wasn’t the first time Jackson’s did something like this. He invited you on tour with him and, when you landed in your hometown, he made sure you stopped by your parent’s home.
He knew you never forgave your parents for disowning you when you ran away from home at 16 to study abroad against their wishes, and, once you realized they had made up lies to other family members to save their own reputation, it solidified your hatred. He understood your anger. But to cut off your family completely? He thought that was impossible. Family meant everything to him and, considering how your parents were willing to mend things, he was hoping you felt the same.
But, from the way you angrily stomped to the laptop, slamming it shut before glaring at him with the deepest scowl he’s ever seen, he knew your feelings haven’t changed.
“You keep doing this shit and I’m sick of it. I told you I don’t want to talk to them and you keep doing this crap, every single time! Are you stupid? Is that why you’re doing this? Or do you just hate me that much that you want to hurt my feelings?!”
Sure, your words hurt. You had never exploded at Jackson like this, it was actually shocking to him, but you need this. Years of built up anger finally flowing forth as you screamed at him, your voice cracking every so often as anger turned to sadness, sadness turned to defeat, defeat turned to hurt, and the cycle restarted from there.
He waited until you finished, watching you sniffle loudly as your sleeve cladded arm swiped over your tear-stained eyes.
“So, you never want to speak to your parents again? You never considered fixing your relationship and, if it didn’t work, you could at least say you actually tried?” Silence.
You stared at one another trying to find some response but neither of you said a word, your eyes leaving his face as you thought the question over, uncertain of if this is how you’d want things to be forever, even though you were doing fine on your own all these years.
“You don’t have to tell me. But your parents gave me their phone numbers, emails, and new address. If you ever want to fix things, tell me, and I’ll be by your side the entire time. If not, I get it, and I’ll support you 100%.”
Jinyoung
You stared at the annoyed male through your laptop’s screen, his eyes focusing on anything but you. This was your third time this week calling him and, each time, he seemed more distant than before. You had planned to call him whenever Jinyoung wasn’t home, giving you time to repair your damaged family before you decided you wanted to introduce him to them, but your father, with his cold gaze stuck on his television that produced the only sound between you two, couldn’t care less about that.
To add insult to injury, Jinyoung was home early, moving quietly in case you were sleeping in for the day. He could hear light talking, most of the words muffled from the distance, but it was clearly in an exhausted tone. Your exhausted tone. Jinyoung was never one to eavesdrop but you also weren’t the type to open up to him about everything that bothered you. Maybe you were talking with a friend? Maybe your conversation would help him understand why you were so upset the past few days.
When Jinyoung was close enough to hear you clearly, he stopped, his eyes peeking through the slit of your bedroom door where you sat in front of your desk, a man he’s never met staring at you grudgingly.
“Can you hurry up and talk? I have somewhere to be soon.” He spoke, his frame shifting as you cleared your throat, finally having a chance to have a real conversation with him for the first time in years.
“I just think it’s time we talked about everything. I don’t want one of us to die, knowing that our relationship could have been better or that we let it stay as bad as it is.”
“You’re the one that let it get bad, (Y/n).”
“That’s not true!” You protested against his words, pausing for a moment to collect yourself before continuing.
“You’re my father, and it kills me every time I try to talk to you because you never want to speak to me, especially when I’m the only one trying to fix our relationship.”
“You only called me once your mother ran off to marry someone else and you had no one to raise you. You weren’t worried about our relationship when you said you’d rather live with her after the divorce-“
“I was 8. An 8-year-old girl needs her mother, I always tell you that.”
“They also need their fathers but you obviously didn’t need me, right?”
You swallowed back a sob as you were trying to find the words to explain yourself, but you couldn’t. He was just as hurt as you, maybe worse. From the day you were born, even now, he was excited to have you in his life, but to think you didn’t want or need him in yours was too much to bear.
“I have to go.” He said, breaking the tense silence, your body perking up as you finally noticed your lack of words.
“Dad? Dad!“ Your voice cracked slightly as you tried to continue the conversation, but your screen returned to its regular background, your face contorting in a mixture of pain, anger, and sadness as you finally broke down.
Jinyoung has seen you cry only a handful of times, but he’s never seen you cry over something so deep and personal. He felt awkward. How was he supposed to console the girl sobbing loudly at her desk, head buried in her folded arms as she quietly said “I’m sorry” to someone who was no longer listening?
You didn’t hear the bedroom door open but jumped at the feeling of a warm hand on your back, your red eyes meeting Jinyoung’s sad ones as you quickly stood and wiped away over a decade’s worth of tears.
“When did you get home?” You asked quietly, already knowing the answer by the way he silently wrapped his arms around you.
Jinyoung was never one to pry into your personal problems, especially when he felt it was too soon to address, but he knew being there for you was enough until you were ready. And you couldn’t help but tear up once more at the fact, holding onto him for dear life as if he were your lifeline.
Youngjae
“My parents should sit at a table right next to us.”
“Obviously.” You laughed as you watched the wedding planner place the small yellow figurines with name tags onto their spots on the large layout of the wedding hall you rented.
You and Youngjae were only two weeks away from your wedding and things were seemingly falling into place. Everything was perfect. Your wedding dress was even finished on time, now waiting patiently in the bridal shop until it was time to head out into Mokpo. Nothing could ruin this for you.
“Is this a free space?” Youngjae asked, pointing to an unoccupied table right next to the one you two would sit at, the one your family should be at.
“Actually,” Your eyes widened as you watched the wedding planner sort through her binder, checking between the pages and the layout before searching her bag for extra figurines.
“This table should be reserved for your parents and sister, (Y/n).” Both pairs of eyes fell on you and you could feel yourself shrink into the sofa you sat on, your body strangely warm with embarrassment as you slowly unclasped your hands from your lap, revealing the three yellow figures you took while they were busy talking, hoping they’d ignore the small displacement.
For years, you had problems with your sister. She was always the favorite, the one your parents ran to first to help while you struggled in the background. You don’t even think she’s lifted a finger once in her life. It wasn’t until she ruined your high school graduation party that you finally said something, pointing out how your parents allowed her to act so carelessly and all they could do was clean up her mess as if they caused it. She was an adult-child. But, even at that moment, with years of anger coming out, your parents blamed you for feeling that way. You should have been “just like her” and maybe you would’ve been treated better.
Even after they humiliated you, you forgave them, taking some time away by studying in Seoul, making a home and career there for yourself while still trying to keep your relationship with them present. You even invited them to your wedding. So, to have them suddenly call and say your sister was getting married that same day, her waiting until you announced the official date to state the same to your friends and family, was the ultimate slap to the face.
“Are they not coming?” Youngjae finally spoke up, your unknowingly tear-filled eyes finding his as you shook your head sadly, a tense silence taking over.
“How about I come back tomorrow and we can finish this up?”
“Yes, please.” You ignored the two as Youngjae helped pack away her materials, guiding her to the door with a promise that you’d have everything sorted out for her by tomorrow evening before shutting the door, leaving you in a stilted silence.
Youngjae was always considerate of your family problems, even encouraging you to talk to them and invite them to your wedding, but the way you sat silently, mentally beating yourself up for thinking they’d ever change to finally show you some kind of affection, made his heartbreak.
He took his seat next to you, trying to find the words to say to make things better but you interrupted him with a small chuckle, your head shaking in shame at your own stupidity.
“My own parents don’t care enough to come to my wedding. It’s like I don’t even have a family at this point.”
“You have my mother and father, and my brother and sister too.”
“That’s your family, YJ.” You sighed deeply, rolling your eyes in an attempt to hold back any tears you felt may fall.
The warmth of Youngjae’s hands enclosed yours as he held them gently, causing you to turn and give him your full attention, his expression soft yet serious.
“I knew how your family was and I made you invite them anyways and I’m sorry. But, you don’t need them. In two weeks, my family will officially become your family, I’ll be the greatest husband you could ever imagine, and Coco will be our baby.”
You couldn’t help but laugh slightly, amused at the thought that Mark would even consider letting you have Coco full time, but mostly pleased by the idea of actually having loving parents and siblings, whether you were related or not. Youngjae probably thought it was a small gesture but it was big enough for you. And he’d do it a million times again just see you smile.
BamBam
BamBam knew you had issues with your mother’s side of the family, he just didn’t think it was this deep. He sat against his bed, two of his cats pacing around him in circles before laying down by his feet, his eyes too focused on you marching throughout the room with your phone pressed to your ear, a hand running through your hair in frustration as the elderly woman on the line continued to plead.
“(Y/n), it’s just for this month. Your mother fell behind on her rent again and-“
“And what, grandma? She’s asking me to send her another $800 for the third month in a row, and you find nothing suspicious? How did she fall behind anyways? Let me guess, drinking her life away again? Drugs? Gambling? Or did she use it to bail her shitty boyfriend out of jail again.” You snapped, annoyed that this is the same phone call you receive on the same day each month.
Your grandmother was a sweet woman, she just had a bad habit of coddling your mother, treating her as if she needs 24/7 love and care when, really, she needed to grow up. You tried to be considerate and understanding of your mother at first but after a while, you began to notice her patterns, the way she lied and manipulated people to get what she wanted, the way she played victim so she never had to own up to her troubles. You were sick of it.
“She’s going through a rough time, (Y/n), please. She lost her job and-“
“And I don’t care. If your “rough time” last over twenty years, it’s no longer the situation that’s the problem, it’s you. And you’re sitting here enabling her. Grow a spine and kick her out.”
“Don’t talk to me that way.” Your grandmother’s tone changed from pleading to serious but it didn’t waiver your anger, only increasing it.
“Well, somebody has to. Just because you choose to let your daughter live with you on the condition that she pays rent doesn’t mean you’re doing something right, especially when you end up begging me to pick up the slack for her just so you can have her around. She’s your problem, so you deal with her.”
You didn’t bother listening anymore as you hung up, a mixture of a growl and groan escaping your lips as you dragged yourself over to the bed you shared with the now confused boy. BamBam had so many questions yet he couldn’t tell if he had the right to ask. You curled into his side without another word, not mentioning the intense phone call from just a second ago or details of the situation like you gave the last time, just your arms wrapped around his torso and your head on his chest.
“What happened?” He asked nervously, feeling your head shake against his chest to signal that you didn’t want to talk about it.
BamBam hesitantly wrapped his arms around you, feeling you sink further into him as you tried to fall asleep.
He always fantasized in his head how he could help you in situations like this, but he was still so confused. How did things get this way and why? And why were you so used to it by now? He had questions and was slightly desperate for answers, just to make his daydreams of being the protective boyfriend he wants to be come true. But he was already doing enough. He was your safe place in your crumbling world. He may feel like he’s done nothing to help but he was the best help you could ever have.
Yugyeom
Yugyeom watched as you slowly kneeled in front of your bed, placing the folded stack of jeans into your suitcase that sat by his feet on the large mattress, your eyes focused on nothing in particular as you mulled over your decision to head home to see your mother.
Your mother was your biggest bully since the day you were born, belittling and tormenting you at any given chance, physically and mentally. By the time you moved out, you were positive you never wanted to see her again. That was, before your brother called you to let you know she was sick, updating you daily on how her condition went from bad to worse, the doctor’s assuming she had but a few weeks left to live. Despite her abuse towards you, you didn’t want her to die hating you, nor did you want her to die without at least giving you a reason for why she did. But what if she didn’t even want you there? Should you at least honor that unconfirmed wish and stay home?
You were torn up inside about all of this, and Yugyeom could see it. He knew of your troubles and tried to remain neutral about it, not wanting his feelings to influence yours. He was sad that you never really had any support growing up, silently detesting both your parents for making you suffer on your own for years and driving you away when you needed them most, but he felt worse watching you cling to someone who never bothered to check on you since you were 16. He was always silent on the situation, trusting you knew best, but after watching you pack and unpack for the past 3 days, fighting yourself on whether what you were doing was right or wrong, he needed to say something.
“Are you really going?” He asked calmly, causing you to come back to reality to see he was on there with you, resting on one of his elbows while staring down at you expectantly yet patiently.
You looked away with a sigh, shrugging before looking back at him with guilty eyes. You knew how he felt about your family, whether he told you or not, but you wanted one last chance at a mother-daughter relationship, hopefully one that wasn’t toxic and left you emotionally scarred.
Yugyeom sighed before pushing himself up, crossing his legs and scooting forward so that he was beside your suitcase.
“I’m not going to be mad if you go but I don’t want you to get hurt either.” Your lips formed a deep pout as you pressed you forehead onto his jean covered knee.
“I don’t know what to do, Yug.” You sounded so pitiful and stressed, his hand unconsciously finding your hair to comfort you.
One thing Yugyeom learned during your two years together was that you hated overthinking your problems, even major ones like transferring from Ulsan to Seoul for work, his method of helping being to distract you until one of you figured out a plan that could potentially solve it. Maybe, for something as large as this, something he’s never dealt with before, he could do the same.
“How about we go to the dog café you always talk about so you can clear your mind? Then, if it’s not too late, we’ll call your brother, make sure he’s still with your mom, and ask if she wants to see you. If she says yes, we can pack and head out to see her tomorrow morning. Okay?”
You were silent for a moment, causing his heart to stop at the possibility that it wouldn’t work this time, especially when you turned to look at him, your pout still prominent as well as the exhausted look in your eyes.
“Thank you.” You said weakly, causing him to exhale in relief, leaning his head against yours in solace.

Waking Up in Vegas--Ch. 25
Tumblr media
Chapter 25: The Way You Look at Me
Dean, 10:15 PM, Evening
“How about, after all of this is over tonight, we go back to the hotel, take a hot shower together, and eat junk food?” I said soothingly, sliding my fingers along the soft skin on the inside of her wrist. Her pulse beat wildly, a strange sort of music that made my blood sing.
Mera glanced up at me with those amber eyes of hers, the ones that could drag me down into an unfathomable abyss. One that I never wanted to leave. It was the glance that drew me in the first moment we met, they shade and hue that kept me in thrall in a way that I could never understand. She reached up and tugged on the end of her ponytail.
“That sounds really nice,” she replied, leaning her head against my shoulder. Her fingers settled into place with mine, holding my hand tightly. “If you promise that we can leave first thing in the morning. I don’t want to stay here any longer than I have to.”
I had known, ever since we drove into Davenport the night before, that she was nearly destroyed with anxiety by being anywhere nearby. She was terrified by the thought of running in to Seth’s family or any of their old friends. I could feel it, her sheer and absolute horror—it blurred in my veins, changed the way the air cycled through my lungs. It was an ache in my bones, an ache that I knew had to be a thousand times worse within her.
“Then let’s drop off the rental car and just fly home. Nobody needs us until Friday anyway.”
She glanced up, tears glittering on her lashes like diamonds. That beast in my chest reared up, roaring in desperation to protect her, to stop the pain and hurt that had somehow gotten past me to her. I brushed my thumb beneath her eyes, wiping away the tears gathered there. My heart thudded angrily, sadly, desperately. All I wanted was to take her away from everything that hurt her. If I could, I would carry her away to a place for just the two of us… where we could be together in peace without her past chasing her like ghosts.
“Every time I think I’ve figured you out, you surprise me, Dean Ambrose,” she murmured, a half smile on her face.
It was enough to lift my soul. To bring it into a place of something like peace and joy.
Mera, 10:20 PM, Evening
Just looking at his cornflower eyes made me feel as if the world could find itself right again. He had this way about him, this sense that permeated everything around him until there was nothing left but peace. It was one of the many things I loved about him. No matter what happened, I could find the center of the world in the circle of his arms.
“What do you mean by that, Mera?” he said, his lips curling up in a smile that still made my heart want to burst.
I looked up at him, wondering if the day would come when the sight of him didn’t take my breath away. “You are the kindest, sweetest, most wonderful man I’ve ever met. And I’m so lucky to be your wife.”
Those blue eyes blurred as he blinked rapidly, trying to hide the fact that he was tearing up. “I’ve been lucky since the day I met you.”
Leaning up, I pressed a kiss against his lips. “I love you, Dean.”
 Seth, 10:22 PM, Evening
I was just standing in the hallway. Not moving, not talking, hardly breathing. Mera and Dean were right here, sitting on those road crates talking and touching. All I could think about was how they sat close together, her head on his shoulder, a smile on her face that I hadn’t seen in years.
Something inside me… something deep in my chest… it pulled, tugged, ripped so painfully it sucked the air out of my lungs. I stumbled back into the wall, a physical ache running through my entire body.
A lifetime flashed in my mind. The seconds and moments and hours, days, months, years… decades. The first time I saw Mera Reynolds—golden hair in braids with a Ninja Turtles lunch box standing by the cubbies in the back of our kindergarten classroom. Middle school—ponytails and a boyband t-shirt, magazine cutouts in her locker beneath a picture of us in the snow. Somewhere around ninth grade, looking over from my trampoline-turned-ring and seeing her sitting on the steps of my mom’s house with the camera in her hand. Junior year—Mera coming down the stairs at her parents’ house in a dark blue dress that made her hair look like burnished bronze. Senior year, signing day, when she turned down everything at her dream school to take an AT track and travel with me.
That first night on the road, getting lost trying to find the next town. She had her feet up on the dash of my beat-up second-hand car, music crackling through the speakers as she sang along. The motel on the side of the highway, splitting a meal from McDonald’s since that’s all we could afford.
The way she used to fuss when I got hurt. How she’d sift through her textbooks to find what needed to be done. Calling her teachers if she couldn’t find it. The times we couldn’t avoid it and ended up at the emergency room.
Every moment of our lives together raced through my brain. One after the other, marching toward the inevitable, inescapable finish. Faces blurred together, all sharing one defining characteristic—they weren’t Mera Reynolds.
I felt my bones breaking in my chest. My stomach turned.
I barely made it to the bathroom before I puked.
 Mera, 10:30 PM, Evening
“Good luck tonight,” I murmured as Dean enfolded me in a warm hug. The scent of him wrapped around me, reminding me that I was finally in my only real home. No city, no family, could make me feel as calm and as happy as being with Dean.
“Honestly,” Dean replied, burying his nose in my hair. “I’m ready to drop these titles. I’m ready to do my own thing.”
I slipped my arms around his middle. “Whatever happens, whatever you do, I’m here. I’m behind you for every second of it.”
Dean’s lips settled on my temple. “I’m counting on it, darlin’. Because I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
With a final squeeze, I looked up at him and smiled widely. “Go on. Do what you do. I know it will be great.”
 Dean, 10:38 PM, Evening
I stood in gorilla, my thoughts still in the back with Mera. As calm as she had been when we’d parted, I knew that she was ready to get this town in the rearview. It didn’t matter to me. But knowing that she was unhappy was enough to make gasoline burn in my veins. I’d go to the ends of the earth to make her happy.
Seth appeared next to me, his face looking grey. As much as I knew what he’d done, I couldn’t deny the fact that he had been one of my closest friends for a long time. “You good, man? You look a little green.”
I watched him swallow hard. There was a sheen of sweat on his forehead. The muscles of his jaw bunched tight. “Are you gonna vomit?”
He looked over at me, something off about the way his eyes focused. “Already did.”
“Shit, man. Are you okay to go through with this?”
“No choice,” he replied heavily. “I’m not backing out on my hometown.”
Seth sounded strange, something haunted in his tone. I reached over, put my hand on his shoulder. I felt him flinch.
 Mera, 10:40 PM, Evening
I slipped around to the monitors so I could watch the match. Everyone who needed me had already been taken care of and long since left the arena. I had the time to myself as I waited for Dean’s match to be over. Watching it would make the time go by faster.
“Hello, Mera,” came a voice from just over my left shoulder. I turned around to see a woman whose face I hadn’t seen in years. Holly Franklin—Seth’s mom—stood there in a dark sweater and jeans. She stepped up close to me, like she wanted to hug me.
I tried to smile, but knew it wasn’t as genuine as she deserved. “Hello, Holly,” I replied, feeling the formality in my mouth.
She looked down at her feet, smiled her soft mother smile. It made me feel guilty for feeling off around her.
“I miss talking to you, girlie,” she said faintly. A heavy sigh settled between us. “You were like my daughter for so long, Mera. I swear I could beat that boy for doing what he did.”
I tried so hard not to think about it. To not let everything that Seth had done to me creep in at the edges of my senses. If it did, I would fall apart. I would sink beneath the edges of the past in a way that I couldn’t escape.
As if she could sense the rise in my pulse, the terror that seemed to burn in my veins, Holly stepped away. “I know my son isn’t always a good man. I know that he hurt you in a way that can never be forgotten. And, honey, know that I don’t expect you to patch anything up with him. He made this bed and he’s going to wallow in it. But I’ve watched you grow up. You were like one of my own. If you ever need anything, don’t you hesitate to pick up that phone and call me, do you understand?”
Something soothing wriggled in beneath the anxiety. I felt the corner of my mouth twitch up. “Yes, ma’am.”
Holly nodded as if all of it was settled. “And congratulations, sweetheart. Dean’s a good man. He’ll be a better one to you than my boy was. And I’m glad for that.”

Backstory
Some people may think I have it easy and for the most part, I have for most of my life. But with having Borderline Personalities Disorder, I myself have made it difficult for myself. Not that I wanted to, it just happens. I go very irrational and tend to focus my energy on the wrong things instead of the right ones.
Growing up I always had behavioral issues that just never seemed to go away. I have been in therapy since I was a little tyke, and I have had my episodes for as long as I can remember. I would always hold in all my feelings and then BOOM! they would all explode out all at once. My parents (mom and stepdad who is my dad in my heart, bio-dad is very out of the picture) tried everything that they could. From therapy, to cutting dairy out of my diet completely because they thought that would help calm me. They sent me to treatment for the first time when I was thirteen and treatment became my teen years. From Boystown to Residential Treatment Centers to Treatment Shelters and everything that they could to try and fix me. That led to a lot of bridges burning and lasting resentments.
By the time I was 18, I had an apartment to my own, but my depression got ahold of me. I couldn't keep a job and living alone made the depression way worse. I couldn't keep up with the bills and I eventually went and lived back with my parents and sisters. It was good for a while but then I started getting into my dream of just traveling full time selling merch for bands. That just made everything worse since I didn't get my life correctly started first. I still have that dream, many people I know still ask for me to come out for a leg of different tours or do local gigs. Unfortunately, right now, I need to focus on getting my life on track before I can do anything big with the music scene again.
I was still trying to live out my dreams, but still wasn't making enough money to support that. It tore more rips in my relationships with my family. And then I eventually snapped with everything around me going sour.
My family decided to go to a football game with our favorite team and didn't ask me or even tell me until the day of. They took my sister's friend instead of me and you could say I was hurt and got really upset. I went to work that night and got ahold of some alcohol after from someone, considering I was only 20. I went home and started drinking. I was thinking "what am I going to do?" I had just lost my job (full time not seasonal one) and just got dumped. It seemed my family still didn't care about me after all the years of treatment and us trying to make those amends. My sisters were my half-sisters (from my stepdad) and they never called me their sister. It was heartbreaking and I was at a total loss in my life on what I should do. So, I decided I was going to kill myself. I was very much intoxicated and decided I was going to kill myself in a fire, in the house that my parents rented and be no more.
I started the fire in multiple places, took some pills (which you're not supposed to mix with alcohol) and tried to fall asleep with the fire just starting. I must have dozed off because my phone went off and I saw it was almost dead. I didn't notice how much the fire had started and spread and I went downstairs to try and grab my charger and started to panic. I had a moment of complete soberness. The dogs were already outside before I started the fire, I didn't want my family to hate me that much for dying and burning everything, I thought if they lost the dogs too, they would never forgive me even if I was already dead. The fire was red, so red that it canceled out my anger enough to see clearly for the moment. I grabbed my phone ran out of the house and called 911. I tried to play it off that a space heater started the fire but then I cracked and admitted to it and had to go to jail.
I got out a week later a rather large amount on bail. I then started to try and fix my life. I got on meds, started to see a therapist and was doing everything I could to have a job and keep it. I was sentenced to 3 years’ probation a few months later. I also had to pay restitution and go to many different classes. I was doing good for a short amount of time in my life. Then I turned 21... I had turned 21 before I was sentenced and was starting to rely on alcohol too much already. Even on probation, I was drinking. I know putting that public even though my real identity is hidden for the most part here, it is risky to post such things. But I am trying to be more accountable of myself and need to be more honest with myself and others.
I had a good job at a bar and grill that was popular in my hometown. I loved it. But with more and more drinking it got harder and harder to keep sane with everything going on between probation and trying to be in school while working a full-time job. I was living with my grandparents trying to keep up with my dreams of touring, but still was failing no matter how hard I tried. That job had to let me go because of things not related to work but the image I was putting out for their company coming into work hungover, and I understand that more now than I did back then. I will be honest sober me is way better than binge drinking me. That is why I am taking this huge break from music and most of all drinking, to get my life on track. Maybe one day I will be able to drink again but maybe not as well. Whatever works out best for me.
After I got let go of the bar and grill job, I got kicked out of my current living situation at my grandparents and was about to get kicked out of my other living situation as well. The night I left that place I got my first DUI because I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I had to dodge one car at my friend’s apartment and ended up on a grassed hill that I couldn't move off. I don't know if the cops were called or were just there but even though I wasn't driving at that moment I still got a DUI, still being on probation and in a different county.
That made things a lot worse for me. I had to go on a continuous alcohol monitor, and they had to violate my probation. I started trying to better my life again and was doing a lot better sober. 2019 hit and for some reason I just could not keep a job. 2 jobs went out of business, one wasn't paying me for all the jobs and hard work I was doing, so I left them. And once I had a good job, I get arrested for another DUI, 2 days after I had finished everything for the other one. Almost a year apart from each other, but as well as in the same month that started all the hurt in the first place, the fire. I couldn't get out on bail, they violated me, and I had to spend a total of 85 days in two different jails. Not a lot compared to others. It has made me want to completely change my life around though.
Here i am 4 days after getting out of jail and I have already started doing the things I would say I would do. There is a list, and I mean a big list of things I need to do but I will in time get there. Like I said in my
First Entry, this blog is to help me be accountable. To share what I have planned and how it is affecting my life. As well as, sharing what I have done that has helped me and try new things people suggest giving those thoughts of how they worked for me and how they may work for others. Not many people may care about this, but it is something I thought about to help me by helping others.
I will go into more detail about my past and everything when it comes up but for now that is the current series of events of how my life has gone for a bit. It sucks but it’s what I need to do for a while to get myself on track. So I can have the best life ever for myself.
This is my journey... jump along if you would like. Invite others, for I will be not only talking about mental health but recovery as well. We are a growing community, and as everyone keeps saying, you never know what is going to hit you and change your life forever. Maybe this blog will be my saving grace.

Unending - Chapter 1
So we introducing some characters this chappy and honestly i was so excited to write about them cause legit the idea of werewolf!Jongho literally was what planted the seed for this Ateez fantasy au
I hope ya’ll enjoy!
word count: 4084
Prince!Yunho x Reader
I find myself once again sitting in the great hall of the castle, staring down at the seemingly endless pile of papers piled up around me. I hate these letters; each and every one. I throw my hands into my hair and tug at the roots out of frustration. I never wanted this job, but I could never say no to the queen. She had always treated me so kindly growing up, caring for me as if I was her own. But when she asked me to sort through and decide on a handful of possible suitors for the eldest prince, I had never despised her more.
I glance back up at the papers lying before me, and I don’t know what came over me, but I watched as my body acted on its own and shoved all the papers to the floor and began tearing as many sheets as I could get a hold of. I wasn’t in control of my own body, all I could do was sit and watch as I sobbed and ripped apart the piles of letters around me into thousands of pieces. Tearing and shredding until not a single sheet was left unscathed.
I wiped my eyes clear of my tears as I sat there on the floor, surrounded by the remaining pieces of each suitor’s letters. I could hear gentle footfalls approaching me. I turned to the source of the sound and looked up to see a shocked looking 17 year old prince Yunho standing before me. I began to cry again at the sight of him. I couldn’t control the rampant emotion running through me.
“(Y/N)? What are you doing here?” He leaned down and placed his hands on my arms, staring at me with an almost ferocious intensity. His grip on you was tight, painful even. So I opened my mouth to answer, which would hopefully make him let go of me, but no words came out. I kept trying to force out some kind of sound, but nothing but a choked whine came out.
Yunho’s grip on me was becoming harsher as I continuously failed to provide him with any kind of answer, and he was quickly becoming angrier.
“(Y/N)! What are you doing here?! Why did you leave me?!” He was yelling now, shaking me back and forth, but there was nothing I could do to appease him, so I just continued to cry and let him to continue throwing me around.
“Why did you leave me (Y/N)?! Why?! WHY?!”
You were jolted awake by a sudden hand on your shoulder, waking you from what you had planned on being just a quick nap. You opened your eyes and took a quick glance around you, noticing that it was still night and that the others were all fast asleep, aside for the individual sat next to you.
“Were you having that dream again? You kept whimpering while you were sleeping. I was getting worried so I woke you up.” The voice that spoke to you was soft and calm, trying to not upset you too much, but you could tell how concerned it was.
“No, I’m okay. Thanks Seonghwa, I appreciate you waking me up.” You turned to face him and gave him a small smile, which he returned. His face was barely illuminated by the fire burning in the middle of the camp, but you could still see the worry that was gracing his features. You took hold of his hand and placed it in your lap with your own before leaning your head on his shoulder, still tired from your brief rest.
“I promise I’m fine. Now you get to sleep, it’s my turn to watch so I’m going to go walk around a bit.” You let go of him before rising to your feet and stretching out your stiff legs. Your group had spent the last couple days walking and it was starting to really take its toll on your poor body. You never understood the huge problem with staying in any passing villages anyways? You were really missing the comfort of a soft bed.
“Alright then (Y/N), just remember to wake Jongho when you’re done your turn, he’s after you.” Seonghwa reminded you before slouching back against the tree and shutting his eyes. You stayed for a couple more minutes before leaving, waiting to hear Seonghwa’s breathing even out and make sure he actually fell asleep. Seonghwa tended to worry about the safety of the group over his own well being, and took it upon himself to always be keeping guard even if it was his time to rest.
Once he was decidedly asleep, you began your walk around the camp. You stopped to look at the small lake that the party had decided was a good place to set up camp for a couple days. You were a member in a clan called the Unseen, a kind of vigilante group that traveled around the kingdom and helped people that they came across in need of help. After leaving the palace about three years earlier, you wandered around for almost a year before being picked up by Seonghwa and his crew and was welcomed into the Unseen.
But your thoughts were disrupted by the loud snores coming from a small break in the trees that lined the lake. You snuck your way over and quietly brushed a few branches aside to see who was making so much noise. To no surprise, you found the youngest three boys all huddled together in a pile on top of a bunch of leaves they must have collected for a makeshift bed. San and Wooyoung were wrapped around each other, and both were draped over the youngest member Jongho.
Jongho was a young werewolf abandoned by his parents when they learned he was a beta. From what you learned about him from the others, that was the reason why he loved training and making himself stronger, he wanted to one day prove his parents wrong for rejecting him and show that being a beta doesn’t stop him from being strong an a leader. You’ve never met someone as physically strong as Jongho, you even believe that without his enhanced werewolf strength that he’d still be really hard to be in a fight. You’ve never even come close to beating him in a game of hand to hand. He’d always have you pinned to the ground in under 20 seconds.
Wooyoung is a faerie who was orphaned at a young age and was brought in by Hongjoong after he found him trying to steal food from his camp. He’s been travelling with Hongjoong since he was 15 years old, but that never seemed to affect his very playful and childish nature. He loves to mess around with the rest of the members, particularly by creating illusions that mess with everyone since that one of a faeries powers. He also has a familiar also summoned at his side, a small cottontail rabbit that randomly appears and disappears, which is currently tucked snugly between him and San.
And then there’s San, a vampire who was exiled from his coven, oddly because of his disdain for drinking blood. He was found by Seonghwa outside a neighbouring kingdom where he was severely injured and decided to take care of him. He’s one of the few lucky but very few vampires who possess an enchanted ring that allows him to walk in the daylight since that is a very big problem for any normal vampire.  San is also an extremely capable fighter, and an extremely entertaining sparring partner. He’s constantly impressing you with his flexibility and inhuman speed. He and Wooyoung are best friends, even though they definitely did not start off on the best terms.
Seonghwa had told you about how Wooyoung’s parents had both been killed by vampires, which made him extremely hesitant of trusting San when he first joined the Unseen. But after San explained his contempt for drinking blood and killing unnecessarily, Wooyoung opened up right away, and they’ve practically been joined at the hip ever since. And now Jongho volunteers as San’s main source of food since werewolf blood is extremely nutritious and he heals incredibly fast anyways.
You stepped away from where the boys were huddled and returned to your surveillance, deciding to let them sleep rather than interrupt their terrible snoring. You briefly glancing around the camp making sure nothing seems abnormal, and all seems good and well. You closed your eyes as you felt the breeze pass through your hair, then continue on your stroll.
There’s 3 more members in the unseen; Hongjoong, Yeosang, and Seonghwa.
Hongjoong is the unofficial official leader of the Unseen, and a founding member alongside Seonghwa. He may just be human, but he’s a brilliant leader. He’s confidant and proud, and knows exactly how to increase morale when things are looking bleak. He’s in charge of communication and negotiations. He used to be a soldier in the royal army from another kingdom, but was fed up with how his king turned a blind eye to the people that needed help, so he left, befriended Seonghwa, and began travelling across the different kingdoms.
Yeosang was a friend of Seonghwa’s from their hometown. Naturally soft-spoken, Yeosang is another human who specializes in things like stealth, data retrieval, and assassination without leaving behind a single trace that he was there. He and Seonghwa have always been very close, but he has grown closer to Jongho since he joined. They have a natural contrast between their personalities that complement each other, you found it really quite cute. You both have also become decent friends in the past couple years, he’s always ready to listen if you just need to rant about one of the other boys are being annoying. And he admittedly lives for some good gossip.
And then there’s Seonghwa. He’s the eldest in the Unseen, and the other founding member. He’s the group’s resident witch who is in charge of medical emergencies and healing. He’s also your closest friend in the Unseen. You constantly tell him he acts like a mom, especially towards the younger members, but he just brushes you off and claims that he does not. You and Yeosang conjured up a theory of why he acts like such a parent to the young ones. Yeosang told you about how Seonghwa was born from a completely human family, and was rejected by them and exiled from their village when his magic manifested. So you agreed that he doesn’t want others to be treated as he had been.
The Unseen is completely made up of rejects, exiles, and runaways. But that’s what joined all of you together even more. They were all your family, and you were grateful for them.
You let your mind wander as you meandered around the camp, not too worried about there being any kind of danger lurking. There has never been anything larger than a fat fox found in these woods so you deemed it safe to let your focus shift occasionally.
Before you had even realized it, you could see the light of the sun slowly creeping up behind the mountains on the other side of the lake; you hadn’t even woken Jongho up for his turn watching. But that was no longer necessary since now everyone was beginning to wake up and prepare to set off once again.
“How much longer until we get to the next village?? This dumbass just ate the last of the bread!” You turned your head to see a very complaintive Wooyoung jerking his thumb towards San, who had been wiping his face of any remaining crumbs. You could hear a groan come from Yeosang’s direction, but said nothing as you made silent eye contact with Seonghwa as he trudged alongside you.
“We’ve got maybe about another hour before we reach Westholde, then we’ll be able to restock, okay? I know the last couple days have been tough for everyone, but we just have to make it through this last little bit then we will be fine for a while.” Hongjoong was a couple paces ahead of the group, but was obviously still putting effort into comforting all of his members.
It had been almost 2 weeks since the last time you guys had stopped at a village. Hongjoong preferred that we only entered towns when necessary, since we did have some knowledge of people who were hunting us down for some reason or another; we never troubled ourselves about it since all we heard about it was that it wasn’t anyone hostile.
“Wait, Westholde? The Westholde in the Dirus kingdom? I thought we were travelling towards Basingrove?” You sped up so you could walk beside Hongjoong as you spoke. After leaving the castle, you had hoped to never return to anywhere even close to Dirus, too scared of being recognized as the royal bodyguard who abandoned her post and get turned back in to the king and queen.
“I figured we take a detour and let the youngers take a brake since Westholde was closer than Basingrove. And besides, most of us have never seen Dirus, so I thought it would be almost like a vacation?” He responded as if you weren’t looking like a deer about to be run over with a cart.
What were you going to do when you arrived to Westholde? You couldn’t just walk into town and expect no one to recognize you. But you couldn’t refuse to go or demand to change the course of the trip without raising the concerns of the others.
When you first joined the Unseen, you hadn’t told any of them we’re you originally came from, they just knew you were a runaway and that was enough for them. But after befriending Seonghwa, he was the first and only person you had ever confided the secrets of your past to, and he promised to never share that with the others. And for the time being, you planned on keeping him as the only person who knew.
“Dirus really isn’t all that great you know… I stopped by when I was travelling on my own and it’s pretty much just all trees and mountains… Nothing special.” You were trying your best to get Hongjoong to change your guys’ destination, but he did not seem convinced whatsoever.
“Well that’s odd, since I’ve heard that Dirus is one of the most beautiful kingdoms in this region. Are you sure you’re talking about the same place?” Damn Yeosang and his amazing listening and terrible timing. You were beginning to panic somewhat, you did have any other ideas to avoid going to Westholde without being questioned by the others.
“Hey (Y/N), maybe when we get close to town, you and I can go walk around and check out the scenery and look for a new place to set up camp? Maybe it’ll help you see how pretty everything actually is?” Seonghwa interjected at the perfect time as he linked your arm in his, pulling you to his side. He really was an angel in human form, saving you constantly like this.
Hongjoong gave you both a look with his eyebrow raised before shrugging his shoulders and patting Seonghwa on the shoulder before moving ahead.
“You guys feel free to do whatever you want. Just don’t stray too far for too long, we don’t want to be losing our witch anytime soon. Who’s going to heal San when his head gets too big and thinks he can beat Jongho in a fight?”
“Hey! I nearly got him that one time!” San whined from the back of the group.
“And what about me? I guess it’s fine if the only girl goes missing right? Go back to just being a group of stinky little boys. I see how you really feel now!” You pouted dramatically as you turned your head away from Hongjoong. He was a tough nut to crack, but pulling the girl card on him was always good for getting a reaction from him.
“Oh uh, of course. We can’t lose you either (Y/N)… Uh… You’re also valuable to the Unseen. You’re really good at… uhh…”
“Putting everyone in their place?” Yeosang added from behind you. You smirked at his comment, glancing at Seonghwa who shrugged back at you with a small smile.
“Yeah, that.” Hongjoong went back to focusing ahead of him, scratching the back of his head.
You were very satisfied with the current turn of events.
You continued walking for about an hour before Hongjoong gave you and Seonghwa the okay to head out on your own. And as soon as the words left his mouth, the both of you disappeared like bats out of hell, vanishing into the tree line.
“So what was that all about earlier? Is it because of the whole ‘I’m the former bodyguard of the prince of Dirus and ran away because I was in love with him even though he was getting married’ thing?”
Your jaw dropped as you turned and smacked Seonghwa hard on the shoulder. Was he trying to make this public information?!
“Ow! What was that for? I know I’m not wrong.”
“I know, but we just left the group! They could still hear us. And god forbid Yeosang overhears this conversation, you know he shares everything with Jongho.” You grabbed Seonghwa’s hand as you dragged him further into the forest which lead into a small glen. In the distance you could see a small creek with a large mass of rocks that followed along about halfway down the edge of the creek. You suggested that maybe there’s where you should set up camp for the next couple of days, to which he agreed as you both made your way towards the rocks to begin setting up camp
The sun was beginning to set by the times the guys had found their way to the camp. Seonghwa had made a quick trip to the village to let them know where we had located ourselves before joining me to collect some wood to burn overnight.
The boys returned with bags of food, Jongho carrying the brunt of it all, while the rest carried some of miscellaneous items. Yeosang carried a couple of seemingly second hand books, San and Wooyoung were arguing over how to solve a small wooden puzzle, and Hongjoong was inspecting a new map that you could only assume was of Dirus.
“So I couldn’t help but hear a couple rumors while we were in town… Apparently the princess of the king of Dirus was kidnapped by the Necrolae.” Yeosang was absentmindedly fiddling with his new books as he spoke, briefly glancing at Seonghwa and I as he spoke.
You were shocked to hear the news, you hardly remember the princess since she was so young when you left, and she must be only about 10 years old now. Why would someone kidnap her?
Although you had served the eldest prince, he also had two younger siblings, a brother and a sister. They spent most of their time together while you and Yunho were together, so you never really worried about them. You knew they were in safe hands, since they both also had their own individual bodyguards.
“I’m surprised that decided to actually make a move as ballsy as that considering how many times they’ve been beaten back by the king’s army.” Hongjoong comments as he pokes at the fire before tossing more wood on top.
The Necrolae are a household name nowadays. They’re a coven of vampires who are famous across the kingdom for their numerous failed attempts at overthrowing the king and taking control of Dirus for themselves. They were even causing a bit of a stir while you were still living in the castle. It surprised you that they were still at it even now after all these years.
“Hey, hey, hey! What if that could be our new job! I’m sure the king has a reward set out for whoever can bring back his daughter, so why not go find her? I’m certain we can handle some crappy coven of vampires, and there’s no harm in getting some extra cash right?” San moved in next to the fire and began poking it with a small stick.
“We don’t work for kings San. They can handle themselves. The purpose of the Unseen is to help those who can’t help themselves. The king definitely does not fall under that description, so his troubles are none of our concern.” Hongjoong stood as he spoke, walking over to San and patting him on the head before leaving to go help Jongho with the food.
You understood what Hongjoong said, but you couldn’t help but feel bad for the fact that you could not help find the princess, and you knew exactly why you felt that way. No matter how hard you tried, you could never shake the connection you had with the king and queen and their family. They had taken you in practically as their own when your parents died and cared for you. And just the thought of them suffering because of the princess’ kidnapping almost made you feel unwell. But that wasn’t your life anymore. You were no longer the bodyguard of the prince, you were a member of the Unseen.
It was past midnight when you were done your turn watching, and you just woke up Jongho so he could start his time. You returned to the camp and noticed the huge mess left behind by the boys after you all ate, so you collected all the small wooden bowls and cups and brought them to the lake to clean. You were about halfway done the bowls when you could hear some rustling from not too far away. Nothing too loud so you didn’t think twice about ignoring it and returning to your cleaning. Until you heard a loud shout coming from the same direction.
You shot up from your spot alongside the pond and immediately bolted in the direction of the yell. The noise brought to a small grouping of trees just in from the edge of the glen when you finally saw Jongho struggling against a tall figure out in the open. You could tell that the stranger was carrying a sword, so you hurried your steps in case Jongho was injured.
“Jongho! Are you okay?!” You shouted as you approached the two. Jongho was able to grab a hold on the intruder’s arm before forcing him to the ground in a hammerlock. He was panting, something you had actually never seen him do when sparring with neither you nor San.
“Yeah I’m fine. This guy just thought it’d be a good idea to try and sneak up on our camp in the middle of the night. Now I’ll ask again, who are you?” Jongho pressed harder down on the strangers arm, making him groan out in pain.
“I’m not here to attack you guys, I simply got some reports from the town’s people that a bunch of shady characters came into town and were camping nearby. I was sent to come see who you were and if you were here to cause any trouble. Now let go of me before you break my arm.”  You don’t know why, but this stranger’s voice was causing something to stir in your mind. For some odd reason, he sounded familiar, but you couldn’t quite place how so.
Jongho looked at you for a second opinion before choosing whether he should let the guy up or not. You had a gut feeling the stranger wasn’t lying, so you nodded your head and Jongho let him go. The man slowly stood up, groaning as he stretched out his previously restricted arm and cracking his back. He was a very tall and slender man, and from the angle you were looking at him from, he looked rather young, probably around your own age. But the longer you stared, the more familiar he seemed to become. Until it all clicked when he turned to face you.
“Wait. (Y/N), is that you?” He slowly began approaching you, until he was barely a foot away, staring down directly at you.
“It is you!” He yelled as he picked you up in a giant hug and spun you around before placing you back on the ground.
“Mingi!” You screamed before pulling him back into another hug.
