'i love you' | k.c.c.
Tumblr media
kyra cooney-cross x reader | 3.8k | 5 times someone else realises kyra's feelings for you and the one time kyra realises (or 5 times someone catches Kyra looking at you)
ˏˋ°•*⁀ this is part of the pair of pests universe. i started writing this while writing the last part, i couldn't help it. it's super fluffy and yeah i hope you all like it!
‘Oh what, you change your number now Kyra,’ Katie teased as soon as Kyra appeared on the pitch to start training, ‘Going for the clothes shrunk in the wash look too,’ Katie laughed out while Kyra rolled her eyes and gave her a little shove. Kyra knew what she was getting herself into when she put on your jumper instead of her own. She just couldn’t help herself, wanting to stay wrapped up in you any chance she could get.
‘I couldn’t find mine,’ Kyra mumbled, shrugging slightly, looking down, suddenly finding the ground suddenly more interesting. Before Katie could tease Kyra any further, you had come running out of nowhere and attaching yourself to Kyra’s side.
‘There’s our number 32,’ You looked up at Katie, eyebrows furrowed confused at her comment until she pointed at her own number then at Kyra. It all made sense when you saw Kyra was wearing your jumper instead of her own. The small smile that was creeping on your face didn’t go unnoticed by Katie and now Caitlin who had appeared at a similar time to you.
‘Oi, where’s yours? I’m freezing,’ You tugged at your jumper while looking at Kyra. Kyra’s face lit up when she realised that she could give you hers since she definitely did bring her own with her just in case.
‘I’ll go get you mine,’ Kyra wrapped her arm around you, pulling you into her side trying to keep you warm while you both walked back to the locker room.
‘What happened to not having yours?’ Katie’s voice travelled the small distance you had walked away before making her comment. Kyra shot Katie a glare over her shoulder and continued to walk the two of you away from the other two who were now laughing at Kyra and sharing a knowing look between them, ‘Steph’s gonna love that’ Katie commented towards Caitlin, sarcasm heavy in her voice, they both laughed walking off to join others.
It didn’t take long before you were running back out onto the field for training telling everyone how you were the better number 32 and mimicked Kyra every now and then. Kyra couldn’t keep her eyes off of you throughout training. The way you looked wearing her number she wished she could keep you in it not ever wanting to give you your own back any time soon. Making a note of how she’s going to try and get you to wear one of her jersey’s the next time she has the chance. Kyra’s stomach flipped at the chance of getting to see you with both her name and number on your body.
She also couldn’t help but chuckle whenever you ran around. You had to roll the sleeves of Kyra’s jumper a few times since it was a tad too big on you, even then the sleeves would still roll back down past your hands. It was almost a hazard but neither of you wanted to swap jumpers or take them off any time soon.
Kyra just watched on, a smile permanently etched into her face, ‘She’s so cute,’ A comment that was whispered quietly that was only meant for Kyra to hear had she been alone.
Katie overhearing the comment and watching the way Kyra’s eyes softened every time they met yours, she knew Kyra’s feelings for you before Kyra even realised them. And then that’s how Caitlin, Vic and Teyah all knew but promised each other that it would stay within that little group. Though from then on Kyra was never free of any teasing from those four. They quite enjoyed watching their friend turn red at the mention of you.
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
‘Ky, stop cheating!’ You exclaimed when you realised Kyra was using the reflection of the window’s on the bus to see what cards you had in your hand. You were confused why she wasn’t putting down certain cards until you noticed her glance passed you. You were sat together by yourselves passing the time with different kinds of card games while you were on your way to an away game in Manchester.
‘Oh stop pouting, all’s fair in love and card games,’ Kyra couldn’t help but laugh at how dramatic you were pouting, definitely putting it on to try and make her feel bad and give in to let you win the next few rounds to make up for it. But it never did work on Kyra.
‘Oh yeah? And where’s the love? Hm?’ You crossed your arms trying to stay focused on your pouty and serious act, hard to not break out in a fit of laughter.
‘Please, you know there’s plenty of love right here,’ Kyra joked, laughing and pointing her finger between the two of you. All you could do was roll your eyes and shake your head, looking away pretending to shuffle the cards to hide the way your face flushed slightly.
‘You know how you said there was plenty of love? Yeah well not right now,’ You huffed after having lost yet another round. Even without cheating, Kyra was still beating you. You made up how she must’ve had psychic abilities but she was quick to shut you down and make fun of how you have the worst poker face and she can read you easily.
After your little outburst you both settled down, deciding to watch a movie on your phone, ‘You really do make a great pillow, Ky,’ Kyra chuckled softly at your comment, letting you get even more comfy against her shoulder. Kyra had her arm wrapped around you, gently rubbing and drawing circles against your arm. That plus the fact you could never stay awake during movies, meant you were out fast asleep within minutes.
Alessia noticed that the corner the two of you were in had quietened down quite a bit. Turning her attention she saw you fast asleep on Kyra’s shoulder. Kyra’s feelings for you being more than just what a best friend would hold was painfully obvious. Though it felt like it was more painfully obvious for everyone that wasn't either you or Kyra.
It wasn’t hard, Alessia wasn’t sitting far from either of you, so she could see things from afar. Like the way Kyra would glance down and just look at you instead of the movie, the smile that was only ever directed towards you. She would have to stifle a laugh every time Katie or someone else was a little too loud and Kyra would try to send them an intimidating glare before making sure you hadn’t woken up yet.
‘Tiny and Kyra…’ Alessia turned to Viv and Beth making sure to talk quietly so no one else could overhear.
‘They’re cute but it’s frustrating watching the two of them,’ Beth contributed, commenting what Alessia was also thinking and anyone else who had noticed, ‘Kyra’s the most obvious, the protectiveness is bordering being disgustingly cute,’
‘Do you think Steph will notice?’ Viv piped up
‘I love Steph but I think that’s where Tiny gets her obliviousness from,’ The three of them laughed loudly at Beth’s comment, earning them a glare from Kyra.
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
‘Yeah, girls night!’ You screamed when you were leaving Steph’s apartment. You, Steph and Kyra were on your way to meet up with your fellow Aussies that also lived in London. A time when you were all free on the same night was definitely something worth celebrating.
‘A bit excited are we?’ Steph joked knowing you had been talking about this night all week. Honestly you just liked having a reason to go out and drink your weight in alcohol when you also had the next day to recover from the night.
‘Loser,’ Kyra knocked into you playfully but joined you in singing and talking Steph’s ear off the entire way to the bar. You cheerfully greeted the girls when you arrived, Sam passing you a shot and a pint as soon as you joined.
‘You’re supposed to be the good influence but I think you’re the worst out of all of us,’ The girls laughed along with Steph at her comment towards Sam. Several drinks later, you were laughing at something Mackenzie had said while trying to hold yourself up against Sam, the three of you attempting to dance.
The others had found a small table to gather around, talking amongst each other. Kyra had tuned most of them out, occasionally nodding along looking like she was paying attention when in reality you had her full attention without even knowing it, ‘Ky…Kyra, earth to Kyra,’ Charli was trying to get her best friends attention noticing she wasn’t paying any attention to what she was trying to tell her.
Charli rolled her eyes following the direction Kyra’s eyes had been set in, ‘You know she’s not going to magically disappear, right?’ Charli pushed at Kyra’s arm, suddenly bringing her back to being aware of her surroundings. Cheeks instantly heated up when Kyra realised she had been caught staring at you, quickly making sure Steph or Mini had caught on either.
‘I wasn’t staring at her, there was a girl behind her,’ Kyra mumbled out an excuse, trying to be convincing, causing Charli to laugh loudly, bringing attention from the other two their way.
‘You’re a terrible liar,’ Just as Steph was about to open her mouth to ask, you bounded over draping yourself over Kyra’s shoulders, smiling ear to ear and giggling to yourself.
‘Ky, come dance,’ You whined out, trying to pull Kyra up from where she was sitting but almost falling into her lap instead.
‘Are you sure you can?’ Kyra laughed, putting her hands on your waist to help steady you, ‘What’s wrong with dancing with those two,’ Kyra nodded towards where you had just come from, a playful smile on her lips.
‘They’re boring, I wanna dance with you,’ You gave Kyra a pout you knew she couldn’t resist and in an instant Kyra was up with you grabbing her hands and pulling her towards the dance floor. Kyra’s hands on your waist, an attempt to keep you upright and close while you get lost in the rhythm of the music. The two of you smiling and laughing at each other.
‘Yeah go dance with your girl,’ Charli mumbled into her drink watching Kyra get dragged away by you. Charli’s comment went unnoticed by Steph but not by Mini.
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
‘Harper!’ You said excitedly as you watched her run towards you when she spotted you and Kyra. You both had gone to support your West Ham friends, being able to see and spend time with Harper was an obvious bonus. Harper ran straight to you and you picked her up, setting her on your hip.
You smiled at the toddler, ‘Boo West Ham, right Harps?’ You and Kyra both laughed when Harper aggressively shook her head and crossed her arms.
‘No! Go West Ham!’ Refusing to stop frowning and smile until you also said it. You rolled your eyes but gave in to the two year old yelling it loud, earning some side eyes but to you it was worth it to see Harper smile and laugh.
Kyra recorded the interaction between you and Harper instantly putting it on her instagram story, smiling to herself at some of the comments she got from your teammates. Kyra had been more active on her socials recently, granted it was whenever the two of you had gone out or spent time together. Her recent photo dumps had slowly started to contain more and more of you.
There were the fans that had started speculating that there was potentially something going on between you and Kyra, and then the others that were defending the fact you were just best friends. Either way it didn’t bother Kyra, she just wanted to be able to capture and share certain things about you that made her smile.
Still holding Harper since she refused for you to let her go, never beating the allegations of you being Harper’s favourite even more so since she only gave Kyra a hug as long as you were a part of the hug too. The hug with the three of you definitely ended up on social media fairly quickly.
Mini eventually found the three of you, getting caught up in conversation. Conversation that the toddler on your hip found boring so she tugged on your shirt to get your attention pointing towards a little blanket on the ground that had some markers and books. You separated from Kyra and Mini sitting down on the ground with Harper.
Kyra and Mini didn’t notice your departure until they saw the two of you sitting on the ground, markers surrounding you while you let Harper colour in the few tattoos you had on your arms. You were a walking colouring book for Harper.
‘They’re so sweet together even if we’re constantly trying to get Harper to understand she can’t just draw on everyone,’ Mini and Kyra both laughed.
‘Yeah they’re both cute,’ Mini smiled looking at Kyra, the comment from Charli the other night and the unmistaken look of love in Kyra’s eyes, it was easy to spot Kyra’s repressed feelings for you.
**•̩̩͙✩•̩̩͙*˚
‘You’d think Tiny Catley was the only one out here,’ Alanna made a slight comment when passing by Mackenzie when the game wasn’t in play, ‘Whenever there’s a stop Kyra’s always looking around to find Tiny,’ Alanna went back into position when the ball was about to be thrown back in. The rest of the first half it was more obvious to Mackenzie since Alanna’s comment. If anyone was paying that close attention to Kyra they would find her actions almost comical.
At half time Kyra was quick to be the one to hand you a water and a gel before you had the chance to grab it yourself. If anyone questioned it, not that they would since it wasn’t completely unusual, but if they did Kyra could just brush it off since it was the olympic qualifiers and she wanted to make sure the Matilda’s best forward was hydrated and ready for the second half.
‘Didn’t know I had my own personal servant,’ You joked, smiling and thanking Kyra for the water she had handed you, ‘Let’s go Ky! You gonna assist my next goal?’ You nudged Kyra slightly, laughing a little.
‘So so humble you are,’ Kyra chuckled, her arm slightly grazing against your own.
‘I mean, you do call me our best forward right,’ You raised your eyebrow at Kyra. She was caught off guard at your comment, she had said that but it wasn’t to you, ‘People tell me stuff,’ You shrugged and jogged away from Kyra into position before the start of the next half.
Kyra almost did assist you and you almost did get the hat trick that you wanted. Only problem was the bad tackle the opposition threw your way. You were on the right, close to goals and about to take the shot when the opposition came running into you. A mistimed tackle causing them to catch your ankle instead, the opposition falling into you causing you to fall forwards.
You were lucky to have missed falling into the goalpost and instead landing right beside it. Though you were unlucky to land on your elbow the way you did. Pain shooting through your right arm, as well as radiating from your ankle that had been stood on. You didn’t know what part of you to hold on to, all you could feel was the pain radiating through your body. You laid on the ground trying to catch your breath and getting the strength to move.
As soon as Kyra witnessed what happened to you all she saw was red. Kyra just saw you on the ground and the defender walking away seemingly unharmed and she couldn’t control herself. It was like there was no one else around, the full stands and all the players nearby were completely blocked out.
A sloppy, mistimed and reckless tackle that had you injured also had Kyra shoving the defender full force. The opposition stumbled back, a mix of anger and confusion towards Kyra. In a matter of seconds, that one shove from Kyra had started a small fight between the two. Alanna was the closest and quickest at pulling Kyra away before it got more heated.
‘Look I know you like her but you can’t leave us a player down,’ Kyra was still too worked up to properly process Alanna’s words, only knowing it was an attempt to get Kyra to calm down.
‘Did you see that?’ Kyra exclaimed, putting her hands up in frustration, ‘That was just so poor and so bad and now she’s,’ Kyra’s voice trailed off when she turned to look at you again, a frown etched onto her face while her eyes showed a deep level of concern for you.
‘Kyra,’ Alanna put her hands on the younger girls shoulders getting Kyra to look at her, ‘You let the refs deal with it, which they are, what she needs from you is to be able to stay out here and finish this game. Finish it for her. You know she’ll be sat there watching the rest too stubborn to let anyone make her get proper medical attention straight away,’ Kyra closed her eyes for a minute letting herself calm down and take in what Alanna was saying, ‘You don’t want her to see you get sent off for something stupid like that,’
Soon enough Kyra returned calm and focused. More focused on you then she was of the defender that had hurt you. Clapping along with the rest of the stadium once you were back up on your feet and getting helped off the pitch.
‘Show them the real wrath of Kyra Cooney-Cross for me,’ Is all you said to Kyra when she went to make sure you were okay while you passed by her.
A few days later it was confirmed that you had broken your ankle. Kyra had stayed with you the entire time throughout each appointment and scan, even being able to stay longer with you in Australia before making your way back to England. It wasn’t an ideal time for you to have gotten injured, though you both are thankful it isn’t as bad as it could’ve been. Though it still wasn’t ideal, you’d finally worked your way into the starting XI multiple times recently for arsenal.
The length of time you were going to be missing games for had started to cause some old insecurities to rise within you again. It was hard, you were finally able to start properly showing arsenal what you had to offer them and then it felt like it was all taken away from you. You didn’t let your insecurities show for a little while. But sitting out at the games watching your teammates, it was getting harder to keep it down.
Kyra started noticing that you weren’t quite yourself at the moment, it would’ve been hard for her to miss it. Especially with how attentive she’d been and how supportive and helpful. Steph had joked that she might as well just move in with how much time she’s spent at Steph’s apartment helping you with whatever you’ve needed. Wanting to make sure your recovery went as smoothly as possible, wanting to make your life a little bit easier right now.
You were being driven back to the apartment and Kyra couldn’t help but notice how quiet you were. Sure you hadn’t been yourself recently but being as quiet as you were now was definitely worrying. As soon as you made it to your bedroom Kyra went to ask if you were okay but the way you threw your crutches to the ground, she instantly got her answer.
‘Ky,’ Your voice was small and cracked a little. Not being able to keep how you were feeling down any longer you broke. Tears flowing freely down your face. In a heartbeat Kyra had wrapped her arms around you, letting you sob into her shoulder. She managed to manoeuvre you so you were both now sitting on your bed, Kyra against the headboard while you laid your head on her chest.
‘Sorry Ky,’ You mumbled once you had calmed down a little bit.
‘Hey, no. No apologising, talk to me. What’s going on in that pretty head of yours?’ Kyra’s voice had always been comforting for you, she made you feel safe.
‘I’m just worried Ky,’ You started, voice small and fingers tracing over the logos of Kyra’s hoodie, ‘What if this puts me back to square one? I’ve worked so hard recently and what if it was all for nothing because of this stupid injury. What if they realise that someone else is way better and then I’m back to just being a sub. Like I know there’s nothing wrong with that but I enjoy playing,’ Kyra listened intently while you rambled on and let out all of the thoughts that had been eating at you for a little while now.
‘Like you said, you’ve worked so hard and that hard work isn’t going to be forgotten. Everyone knows and even now can still see how hard you’re working. The lengths you go to, to support the club and everyone every single game and training and bonding night, none of it goes unnoticed. You’ll be right back as a starter in no time. You’re my star girl at least,’ Kyra whispered the last part and you smiled small at her words.
‘Thank you, Ky,’ Letting Kyra’s words sink in, she always knew the right words to say to get you to feel better. Kyra definitely knew you better than anyone else knew you, she even knew you better than yourself, ‘Kyra,’ You trailed off.
‘What’s up?’ Kyra furrowed her eyebrows at the way you had hesitated.
‘Can- can I have your hoodie?’ Kyra smiled relieved, she didn’t even think for a second before she peeled her hoodie off leaving her in just a sports bra while she put her hoodie over your head.
You hummed in appreciation and got even more comfy against Kyra. Being wrapped up in Kyra and her hoodie, it was perfect. Kyra put a movie on, fingers massaging your scalp. You fell asleep against her pretty quickly having worn yourself out with your breakdown earlier. Kyra couldn’t help but take a photo of you laying against her chest wearing her hoodie.
The longer Kyra looked at the photo and then down at you, the more her stomach flipped and the faster her heart raced. Her breathing picked up a little, but not drastic enough to wake you up, while the realisation had come crashing down on her.
She looked at you one more time, smiling at how peaceful you looked and how much she enjoyed having you in her arms, ‘I love you,’ Kyra had said it so softly, but now she had actually voiced her feelings for you. Finally making it real for herself and no longer suppressing her feelings for you.

Hii cupid bestieeee I'm begging you to write something with the new pic!! Like olderry nd his girl doing something u know!!🤤
Tumblr media
okaaaayyyyyy :) this isn't for older!h and y/n (it's not rly any of my couples) but you can imagine whoever you want !!!!!
word count: less than 1k
content warnings: smut (literal porn without plot) (mean dom!h, sir kink, daddy kink, slight bondage, degradation, dirty talk)
. . .
"Hands and knees, pet."
Y/N doesn't think twice before she's scrambling onto all fours, pressing her knees into the plush fabric of the carpet that covers the floor of Harry's bedroom. She listens to the recognizable sound of his leather belt being pulled from the loops of his trousers, absentmindedly wiggling her hips in anticipation.
"Stay still," he mutters, placing a hand at the curve at her bum. He doesn't squeeze or smack the skin, instead just keeping his large palm splayed over the expanse of her ass. "Head down, hands behind your back."
His demands are quick and curt today and Y/N knows better than to fade into the bratty space that typically results in harsh spanks and hours of edging. Swallowing, she slowly dips her body down, smushing her cheek against the rug as her hands wind back around her waist. It's a degrading position, but it's one they both know well.
Harry's silent as he wraps the thick, expensive leather around her wrists. When she's like this, she's practically immobile; unable to do much besides wobble on her knees or squirm beneath his touch. He hums as he lowers, his form still fully dressed in comparison to Y/N's complete nudity.
"You're wet." he murmurs. He slides a finger through her slit and she inhales sharply, eyes fluttering at the sudden intrusion.
"Y-yes."
"From what?" he asks, using the hand still firm at her bum to spread her cheeks. He spits, landing right at the spot between her two holes, and Y/N whimpers. "We were at a fuckin' happy hour for my job, and you're wet."
"You," she mewls softly, squeezing her hands into even tighter fists, "Y-you looked so good all night and I couldn't stop thinking about your cock—"
"Desperate," he mutters degradingly, using both hands to spread her pussy lips apart. She swallows from the sensation of cool air hitting the warmth between her thighs, allowing her eyes to close. "Sit up."
He disappears from behind her and she blinks, a confused expression on her face. She can't move much with her hands bound behind her and, with her cheek still pressed into the carpet, she tries to glance up at him for some type of explanation.
"You heard me," he says with a smirk, towering over her. He's unbuttoning his pants, letting them fall to the floor and pool at his ankles before palming himself through his black briefs. "Sit. Up."
"I-I can't, sir."
Harry snorts and pulls his length from his underwear. He spits into his palm and begins to slowly slick himself from the base to the tip.
"I gave you an order, pet." he says with a clenched jaw.
Carefully, Y/N attempts to clench her abdominal muscles to assist in her maneuver. It's not graceful or sexy in any way but Harry smirks as he watches, continuing to pump himself.
"That wasn't so hard, was it?" he presses, grinning wickedly down at the girl who's now on her knees. Without warning, he dips forward and smears his cock over her lips, making her eyes widen. He laughs — a truly sinister sound — as some pre-cum leaks onto the pink hue of her mouth.
"So silly," he mumbles, lifting a hand to run through her messy hair. "Open up, baby. Daddy's gonna face fuck you now."

Pairings: Takemichi x reader
Warnings: Male!reader, dom/top!reader, sub/bottom!Takemichi, rough sex, dacryphilia, pillow princess Michi, dirty talk, daddy kink, degradation
Genre/Format: Smut; Oneshot
Tagging: @wazabii @hxpel3s5-slxxt (if you'd like your tag removed please lmk!)
Author's Note: Not requested of me specifically, but I did promise to write a lil something something featuring Michi and rougher sex. So, here it is!
Tumblr media
“Aah-!” Another shrill scream bounces off the walls of his bedroom, proceeded by a sharp slap.
Your ragged panting is barely audible over the sound of your hips beating Takemichi's ass — his skin turning an even deeper shade of pinkish red with every collision.
“Fuck, haha... look at you, baby,” you rasped, “look at you taking me nice 'n deep like that. I told ya you'd be able to handle this dick.”
The words didn't quite make it past his lips, instead turning into a whimper that tumbled out when Takemichi tried to protest. He's always so coy — "nooo it won't fit! You're way too big!" he'd say, despite the fact that you regularly wreck his holes. I mean, yeah, you were pretty thick down there, but your partner has proven time and time again that that's not much of a problem.
Even now, as his nails dig into his sheets and tears stain them, Takemichi's walls grip you like a vice; pulling your cock further inside with every motion. And the way his once coherent speech turns into babbles, all because you're rearranging his insides? Priceless.
“Ah fuck-! Mm yeah, take it, baby. Take daddy's cock-” It's all the little slut can do to keep his hips up in the air; his legs may as well have become jelly at this point with the way his thighs shake when you pull back — nearly pulling out — then snap back as if there's some magnetic pull between you two.
Your little pillow princess is full-on sobbing as his teeth grind against the fabric of his sheets. Yet another slap to his ass and Takemichi somehow cries harder, getting choked on his own spit.
Meanwhile, you have been holding back, desperate not to cum just yet so that you can stay inside your lil princess for a while longer. But that ache deep inside of you has only built up, exacerbated by Takemichi's tight hole wrapped around your dick. If only he didn't feel so fucking good, then maybe tonight could last a little longer...
“Gonna fuckin' cum... Hah... Where does my little whore want it, huh?”
No response. Only a drawn out whine where Takemichi's face is buried in the mattress.
You can't stifle the laugh that comes out of your mouth. “Inside it is, then. Ngh-!”
With a few more deep thrusts, you finally explode inside your partner — gushing white, hot ropes that fill him up as you grab a handful of his hair and push his head down further, cutting off the pathetic thing's oxygen for a moment.
“O-ooh shit... haha... damn, baby, you took everything I had, didn't ya?” You tease, exhaling the breath you'd held in during your climax.
Your hands slid down your darling's back, moving towards his hips to rub soothing circles on the skin, then roaming over more of his smaller body — Takemichi's breathing steadies as you do this, gradually calming down until his muscles release their held tension. After a moment, you pull out, leaving your partner's hole gaping, as you usually do, and leaking a fat glob of your cum.
Rolling over onto his side, Takemichi searches for your hand; which you happily oblige him, and meet his touch. Your thumb brushes over his knuckles and you lean down to kiss them before laying down next to him.
“You ok?”
He nods. “Mhm... felt really nice...”
A smile spreads across your face as you watch him blink lazily; best to help him over to the bathroom before he falls asleep, or before you fall asleep, for that matter. And after you're both cleaned up and relaxed, you'll have a little rest together.
Before you roll over and out of his bed, you place a tender kiss on Takemichi's forehead, giggling along with him.

Tumblr media
This week has been absolutely awful, mental health wise. Everything else was about the same. Which you were grateful for, you really didn't need any extra stress from school drama or assignments.
You had stayed the night at Regina's place, having decided to have a cozy Thursday night in with your girlfriend instead of attending the usual parties and such. You ordered take out and watched a movie. Regina's always had this certain image about her, but behind closed doors? When it was just the two of you? She could be so uncharacteristically soft. The first time it happened you had to do a double take and stare at her; wondering if that was really your girlfriend or if she had a twin you didn't know about.
Speaking of her being your girlfriend. Nobody knew about the two of you. You were considered an outcast for your gender identity, the only ones in the school that didn't judge you (besides your girlfriend) were Janis and Damien. They were pretty much your best friends because of it. And only friends...
You were currently getting changed in the bathroom; something you usually did, much to Regina's annoyance. She would always tell you you could change in front of her, that she didn't mind and in fact insisted that you did this. It's not like she hasn't seen you like that before anyway. But you always made up some excuse for why you couldn't and then scrambled off to the bathroom before she could stop you.
Today had been no different.
When you finally got out, Regina turned and looked at you. Eyes scanning your body. Instinctively your arms went to your stomach and you took a step back. Trying to avoid her gaze. You hadn't changed into anything different, just your regular set of pyjamas. Despite that you couldn't help feeling self conscious about your body. It wasn't what you wanted. Some days, you managed... others? Others were harder. You wished certain body parts could just be detachable. Well, they were with the right surgery but you didn't have that kind of money and you sure as hell weren't about to ask Regina.
When you backed away from her, she raised an eyebrow and took a couple steps closer until her hands gripped your waist and pulled you in flush against her.
"Where do you think you're going?" She smirked at you, hand trailing up your side. Sending a shiver down your spine as you bit your bottom lip in response.
"I..." You take a breath, gathering your thoughts. Do you tell her about your insecurities? "Not today, Regina. Please." You voice was barely above a whisper, feeling vulnerable in the moment.
She looked almost offended for a brief second but her features softened as she looked into your eyes, trying to get a good read on how you were feeling. She could see your vulnerability and it all clicked in place.
She sighed deeply and grabbed your hand, pulling you over to the bed as she made you sit down before straddling your lap and looking into your eyes. Her hand rested under your chin.
"You are fucking beautiful." Regina whispered, giving your jawline a kiss." So damn handsome."
"Regina- that's not-" You stuttered out, though whatever you were going to say died in your throat as she kissed your jawline. Your hands instinctively went to wrap around her waist to keep her in your lap.
"What? That's not true?" Regina's eyes met yours again and you shook your head. That wasn't what you were going to say.
"That's not what I meant. I can't stand my body, it makes me feel sick just thinking about it. This isn't who I am in my head and it hurts. How can you be with someone like me? Someone who can't even accept their own body?" You admitted out loud how you really felt, it felt good haven't it out but it hurt talking about it. Tears brimmed your eyes.
Regina frowned as she listened to you, she knew being nonbinary was hard for you. She knew you were hurting. She never realized just how much.
"Because I love your body. I love your mind. I love you. Alright? I'm not going to fucking leave you for someone else, you have what I want even if you can't see it for yourself. You're beautiful." Regina replied, her hands trailing along your sides as she speaks; making you shiver under her touches.
"Alright?" She asked again, her lips now brushing against your neck. You tilt your head to the side almost instinctively, allowing for her to have easier access as she kisses your neck. Sucking on the skin until a mark is left behind. Her finger gently touch it, making you shudder as she laughs a little. You were so easy. Every little thing she did had an effect on you.
"Mm..." You tried talking, but it came out as a soft hum instead of the 'okay' you had tried to say. Your mind wasn't fully settled, Regina could tell just looking into your eyes.
"You're beautiful. My handsome partner." Regina whispered into your ear, making you blush. You could tell what she was doing, giving praise to lessen your thoughts. You appreciated her for it.
You nodded slowly, taking in her words and allowing them to sink into your mind. Even if they were hard to accept.
"Better?" She asked, her hand now resting below your neck as her fingers just barely graze against it.
"Better... thank you." You mumbled, letting your eyes close as you melted under her touch.
"That's not a real thank you. Show me just how much you appreciate me." She whispered into your ear again, you blushed a deeper shade of red as you read between the lines of what Regina really meant.
She looked at you expectantly, you rolled your eyes but that didn't hide the smile (or blush) on your cheeks.
Regina smirked when she saw it and laid back in bed, head rested on the pillow as she grabbed you by your arms and pulled you on top of her.
You easily followed, laying your body down on hers as you began giving her neck soft kisses. Her head tilted to the side in response, eyes closed as she melted into the feeling.
Regina wouldn't call herself submissive, she wasn't submitting to you. She was more of a pillow princess, she wanted her body to be worshipped by you. Treated like a Goddess.
Your soft kisses became harder as you sucked on her skin, leaving that oh so familiar mark. Matching the one Regina had given you just moments before. You heard a soft whimper escape Regina's lips, so you kept going. Getting more of that sound from her. You made sure to start slow so you could worship her body the way she had wanted; and show her just how thankful you were. You'd spend the whole night treating her if you could.
"More... please." Regina almost begged, her tone sounding desperate. Part of her wanted you to just skip the worshipping and get right into the hard stuff, the other part of her wanted to be worshipped and praised. She felt torn.
"Hm? What's that, baby?" You smirked against her neck, looking up for a brief moment to lock eyes with hers. God, you loved being able to make her this desperate.
Regina gritted her teeth, trying to keep herself from begging for it but she knew you wouldn't give her what she wanted if she didn't.
"Fuck you." She cursed, you held back a laugh. You knew she was just frustrated with how you were doing this.
"Keep talking like that and I'll just stop all together." You whispered in her ear, sending a shiver through her body." Go on, beg me."
Regina's eyes closed again as she kept her mouth shut, when she felt you start to pull away and get up... she grabbed you and held you in place on top of her.
"Don't stop."
You smirked, knowing you had her exactly where you wanted her. You gave her throat a kiss and continued on with what you had been doing before... only you upped it a notch like Regina had asked for.
~~~
The next morning, you had woken up sore as you took your spare clothes and went to change in the bathroom like you normally did. Regina had felt you getting out of bed and started to stir, sitting up and rubbing one of her eyes.
Her eyes narrow when she sees you heading to the bathroom with your clothes.
"Y/N." Regina spoke up, her tone a mixture of stern and tired with sleep.
You stopped in your tracks, hand on the door frame as you looked back at your girlfriend and tilted your head in confusion.
"Yeah?"
"Get your ass over here." Regina demands, you sigh and listen. Going to her bedside. She grabs you by your waist and suddenly pulls you into her lap, making you gasp at the sudden action.
"Regina-"
She cuts you off with a kiss, making you quickly shut up and melt into her body.
Regina parts the kiss and stares into your eyes, hand gripping your chin to make sure you had your full attention on her.
"You're changing out here. Repeat what I told you yesterday." Her tone was stern, but it didn't come from a place of meanness like it usually does for everyone else. She was always a little softer on you.
"You told me a lot of things yesterday," You gave a teasing response back, you knew what Regina wanted you to say. You wanted to see how much you could get away with.
She rolled her eyes, her grip tightening around your chin just slightly." Don't be a smartass."
"Fine... I'm beautiful." You muttered, she could tell by how you said it you didn't mean it.
"Y/N." Her tone remained the same.
"I'm beautiful." You repeat, Regina kissed your cheek and let go of your chin.
"Damn right you are. Now get dressed. Where's your jacket?" She added, looking around her room for a brief moment to see if she could spot it.
You looked at her in confusion. Your jacket?
"My letterman jacket?" You asked, wondering why the hell Regina would want it.
"Yeah. Where'd you put it?"
"Um... I think it's on the couch downstairs. Why?"
Regina rolled her eyes, getting out of bed. There was a slight shake in her legs which made you smirk, feeling pretty damn proud of yourself because you knew she was still effected by the night before.
"I'm wearing it. Obviously."
"To school?" Your eyes widened a little, that jacket had your last name on it. Was she seriously about to reveal your relationship?
"No, to a funeral. Yes, dumbass." Regina narrowed her eyes, annoyed with the amount of questions you were asking though she couldn't help feeling a little amused when she saw your reaction. She was planning on hard launching your relationship. She wanted people to know she was taken by you. She wanted it to be the talk of the school. She knew exactly what she was doing with this.
And sure enough, everyone at school knew Regina belonged to you and that you belonged to her. When they saw her in your jacket it started so many rumours and for the first time in your entire highschool life... nobody bothered you. They didn't want to risk the wrath of Regina George.
A Bitter-sweet Birthday || Kyojuro x reader
Happy Birthday to my one and only Flame Hashira - Kyojuro! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥
I miss the series, but mostly I miss him. Since it's his birthday, I decided to write something short.
The day was sunny and calm with no clouds in the beautiful blue sky.
You woke up early and immediately started to get ready in the quiet privacy of your own room. The day was very important since it was your beloved's birthday today, and you were beaming with excitement and happiness.
The kimono you decided to wear was simple yet pretty. It was plain white fabric with a fiery pattern at the edges, and with fitting red obi and golden obijime. You looked like the real Rengoku, just without flame-like hair.
You were working on pinning your hair up when your door slid open.
Senjuro looked inside and smiled, seeing you in front of the little vanity table. "You are up early. I should have expected that you would be excited to celebrate. Do you need help?" He asked with his soft voice.
You nodded your head. "Yes, please. You are much better at this."
Boy laughed and soon joined you, easily pining your hair up in a simple hairstyle that suited the occasion.
"Oh! Can you put it in?” You asked, handing him a gold hairpin.
Senjuro nodded and fulfilled your request. "My brother did his best picking this for you."
"Yes, I know. Best gift ever," you chuckled and looked into the mirror, admiring Senjuro's work. "Thank you so much."
"No problem. Will you help me a little too? I need some help with cooking,” he asked, and you of course nodded before getting up and following him to the kitchen.
There, you pulled your sleeves up and helped him with preparing miso soup with sweet potatoes and some simple sweets. After all it was a day to celebrate, and what celebration would it be without real sweets!
"You think we have everything?” you asked.
Senjuro shook his head. "I couldn't buy the last thing from our list," he said, looking down.
You just gave him a small smile and ruffled his hair. "No need to worry, we can buy it on our way to him.”
"There will be no need for that. Here.” It was no one else but Shinjuro.
At first his sudden, loud voice made you stiff, but then you realized he was handing you a box with the last thing from the list. Blinking, you looked up at him, not hiding your confusion.
"Just take those to him. I bought them this morning after seeing them on Senjuro's list. I figured out you will need these," man explained.
You smiled widely and bowed. "Thank you so much, Shinjuro-san. We indeed needed those."
"Thank you, father, he will be happy to receive these," Senjuro added with a kind smile.
Shinjuro looked at both of you as if he wanted to add something, but he decided to stay quiet instead. He just turned away and left.
The two of you returned to cooking and chatting, sharing some giggles while doing so.
------------------------------------------
When the food was ready, Senjuro packed it up, you collected other stuff you planned to take, and you both set off on the road.
It wasn't a long trip but going with a friend was an amazing feeling.
The closer you got, the more excited you became. You couldn't wait to celebrate Kyojuro's birthday.
The burial ground seemed quiet and calm, as if it was frozen in time together with everyone else, buried deep in its grounds.
All you could hear were birds singing softly, their songs carried by a quiet whisper of the wind that sneaked around the crowns of trees and soft splash of a river nearby. The sun's gentle warmth enveloped the serene atmosphere, casting a comforting glow on the world.
"Aniki," Senjuro said happily and ran up to one of the graves, setting everything down next to it.
You quickly followed him and smiled looking at the grave. "Good to see you again, love."
After the quick greeting, you and Senjuro got to work, cleaning the grave. You made sure to visit Kyojuro regularly so there was a small amount of cleaning needed.
In the end, you pulled out the box that Shinjuro gave you and pulled out incense sticks. You lit them up and placed them on the grave.
You and Senjuro clasped your hands together, preparing for the prayer ahead with a sense of unity and reverence.
Senjuro finished first, and started putting down a little blanket. You joined him shortly after, and helped him with setting everything up.
"Aniki. Everything's good at home, father has stopped drinking, and things are much calmer there now. He even accepted Y/N around," Senjuro said, even if his words were greeted by nothing but silence.
"That's true, but I still try to do my best to stay out of his way. Today he bought us incense sticks for you, love," you smiled softly.
Senjuro nodded and picked up his little bowl of soup. "Happy birthday, aniki. I wish you were still here. I miss having you around.”
You smiled sadly, doing the same as he did. "Happy birthday, my love. I miss you dearly."
The rest of the celebration went calmly.
You talked and joked with Kyojuro, telling him everything that happened since the last visit.
If you only knew he was there indeed, sitting next to his own grave, listening to both of you and feeling happy, hoping the warm sun rays would convey how glad he was to celebrate his birthday with his little brother and the love of his life.
iridescent engravings!
in which — during the annual ball that was held with the sole purpose of finding a suitable candidate to be sunday’s future spouse, you (reluctantly) attended with no intention of winning his heart yet you were the only one he laid his eyes on the whole night.
pairing — sunday x gn!reader
༊*·˚✧.* — wc: 1k, unestablished relationship, love at first sight is real guys, idk why this took so long for me to write but it's finally here!!! likes and reblogs r appreciated, please enjoy <3
sequel / fateful encounter (both can be read as a standalone)
elegant crystal chandeliers hung from the ceiling; with a hesitant sigh, you stepped on the polished marble floors, making your way into the ballroom. having received an invitation from the family around a week ago, and though you had initially baulked at the invitation, the prospect of declining without causing offense had left you with little choice but to attend.
it's just for a few hours, right… i'll be fine.
the sounds of violins accompanied by pianos filled the air as guests engaged in light conversations with each other. there was an obvious crowd surrounding the main star of the night. sunday was dressed in a refined and elegant suit, exuding effortless grace that seemed to radiate from every movement. you glanced at him, poor guy you think, he's surrounded by endless hordes of guests trying to make a good impression, seemingly never getting a moment to himself, he barely even has space to breathe!
you were too busy staring and you almost dropped your glass of wine as he happened to look over and lock eyes with you.
those mesmerizing eyes of his.
you quickly regained your composure and took a sip of your wine, silently praying that the night would end quicker. yet throughout the whole night, you couldn't help but feel eyes boring into your back, it felt like someone was watching you, but when you looked around, everyone was minding their own business. perhaps you’re just getting self-conscious here.
you kept to yourself mostly, except for a few occasions where some of your acquaintances had come up to you, you guys chatted for a bit and they left as quickly as they came. but still, you can't shake off that ominous feeling, it felt unsettling.
as the night wore on, you walked through the crowd, twirling the wine glass in your hands, the liquid swaying around, threatening to spill out. scanning the area, you spotted sunday across the room, seemed like this time you caught him staring instead. though neither of you broke eye contact, the weight of sunday's gaze bore down on you as you navigated through the crowd, the silent exchange of glances speaking volumes without a single word being uttered.
he thinks you’re lovely, truly. the most gorgeous one he ever laid his eyes on, and frankly, he ever will. he never wants to take his eyes off of you, not even for a moment.
despite the distance between you, the intensity of his stare drew you in like a magnet. the tension in the air seemed to thicken, you couldn't help but feel a flutter of nerves dancing in your stomach, his eyes pierced through the air and stayed firmly locked onto yours.
with each step he took, the distance between you shrunk, until finally, he stood before you, his sole presence left you breathless. (he is the most handsome man in penacony after all) his voice, smooth and angelic, broke through the silence as he greeted you with a charming smile, his words washed over you like a gentle breeze on a warm summer's night.
you tried your best to maintain your composure, subconsciously smoothing out your attire, you could feel the warmth rising to your cheeks. you could particularly smell the jealousy from the people around you. but none of that mattered. you allowed yourself to be swept away by sunday’s hypnotising eyes and alluring words.
“may i?”, he extends his hand, and a surge of anticipation courses through you. before you could fully comprehend the implications, your instinctive response slips past your lips.
"of course," the words escaping before your brain could catch up with your heart. you place your hand in his. with a gentle squeeze of your hand, you think he's going to lead you to the dance floor, what you didn't expect was for him to deftly slide a ring onto your index finger. a gasp escapes your lips and many others too. the delicate ring adorns your finger, it seems like it was made just for you, fitting perfectly.
the soft strains of music enveloping you like a warm embrace as he gently leans down, pressing a soft, lingering kiss onto your fingers. around you, the murmurs of the other guests fade into the background, leaving only the two of you suspended in time, lost in the moment.
“mr sunday, a moment please… it's urgent!”, the interruption jolts you back to reality, sunday's gaze flickers briefly in the direction of the voice, the servant shrinks in fear as he gives you an apologetic smile. prominent annoyance crossing sunday’s features before he turns his attention back to you, his expression softening once more.
"stay here, wait for me." he whispers, his voice tingling with regret as he reluctantly releases your hand. with one last glance, he stepped away, leaving you standing alone amidst the murmurs of the other guests, the sensation of his touch still raw on your skin.
you touch the ring on your finger, feeling your heart thump loudly. this wasn't how you had envisioned the night unfolding—your intention had never been to win his heart, yet somehow, he had given it to you anyway.
sunday wasn’t paying attention to whatever the servant was saying, his focus was solely fixed on you, admiring you, captivated by how adorable you looked as you inspected the ring with faint blush painting your cheeks. sunday's eyes trace the curve of your lips, with you standing there amidst the grandeur of the ballroom, he thinks you look far more majestic than any shall ever compare.
a soft smile tugged at the corners of his lips, his chest swelling with a warmth that he hadn’t felt in ages. an infatuation that seems to grow stronger with each passing heartbeat. and the ring, a promise of something more to come, you just need to wait for him.
༊*·˚✧.*
Sunday’s little bird 🪶
Tumblr media
A/n: first and probably only attempt at yandere, blurb, likely ooc, not proofread, tbh i hate how fhis came out, written before I finished 2.1 or started 2.2 Gn! Reader
(set in an already established relationship)
Cw: yandere, kidnapping, toxic relationship, manipulation, lowkey naive reader, drugs, birds, hinted animal death.
Tumblr media
Sunday had a pretty little pet bird that he named after you. The bird’s feathers are the same color as your hair. The bird is treated like royalty. A big beautiful white cage, for when it’s misbehaving or sleeping. But if you ask for the bird’s name he’d just say some random name. He fears he’ll weird you out knowing that he named an animal after you.
Somewhere down the road Sunday starts to wonder about the possibility of keeping you in the cage instead of the bird. After all if you were caged you would be safe. He couldn’t stand the thought of losing you, not after he lost his sister too. Locking you up just seems like the safest option. Would you forgive him for locking you up? He hopes you will because it’s his only option..
He starts having you come over and help him take care of his little birdy-you. It’s his tactic on helping you acclimate to your future home. You’ve been to his home many times, the only thing that’s different is taking care of his little bird. While you’re getting acclimated with your future roommate, Sunday is out making arrangements for people to ‘attack’ you. He knows you won’t willingly stay caged, so he needs to scare you. Every time you’ve gone out for the last few weeks you’ve been threatened, attacked, or robbed. Without fail Sunday is always there to comfort you, like the sweet loving boyfriend that he is.
After a particularly bad attack he brought you home and patched you up. He gave you some pain killers and helped you to bed so you’d feel better in the morning. The following day you would awake to a chain around your ankle, locked in the big beautiful white cage, with your feathery roommate in your food dish. After you’re done eating your breakfast, he’ll help you bathe and get you dressed in some pretty white clothes. You will forever be Sunday’s pretty little dove now.
Leaving On a Jetplane
Summary: In order to become a pop sensation, you have to leave Melissa numerous times. It never gets easier. One day though, you won't have to leave her behind.
attached is my version of the song- and the songs that i mentioned that reader wrote are actually ones i wrote, so let me know if you want to hear them!
WC: ~4.9k
Tumblr media
Music has always been such a big part of your life- you’ve been playing guitar since you were five. You started writing music at thirteen. Your songs could be about anything. And when you were twenty-one, you decided to head down to the local dive bar that you know almost always has live music. Somehow, by some grace of God, the owner of the dive bar took a liking to you. So, you’ve had a steady Thursday night gig there for a while now. The owner there is even able to connect you with a few other bars for nights that you can’t play at his bar due to other performers.
You’ve been doing it for quite some time now, and it always brings you a sense of peace. You stand up there with your guitar playing a mix of songs that you love to cover along with some pieces of your own sprinkled in. You never announce who the songs are by, and this time is no different.
You’re up on the small makeshift stage that the place has when you introduce a song that you had written during college about an old girlfriend when you spot her walking into the bar. She’s a beautiful redhead, hair curled perfectly and outfit hugging her in all the right places. She looks far too put together to be in the skanky dive bar that you’re in right now. But then again, so do you- dressed in your floral jumpsuit with the little high heeled wedges that you’re clad in. It’s far from the vibe of this bar. But you know what you like, and you stick to it. It usually helps draw in a crowd of horny bastards who will buy you drinks (that you can always get for free thanks to your sweet personality and connection with the owner) once you’re done with your set. Tonight though, you stumble through your introduction as you’re eyes follow that beautiful redhead.
“A-and this is a song about… uh, well… seeing someone from across the room and knowing that you’re going to end up with them… hopefully over a box of pizza one day,” you stutter out before strumming your ukulele a few times.
You’re able to execute the song as you usually do- with flirty intonations and sweet smiles. Those looks are usually directed towards the men that you know will buy you a drink once you’re finished your set, but tonight they’re only directed at the redhead who has now found her way to the bar and is sipping on a Miller while listening to your sweet and soft voice. You can’t help but notice the way that her foot taps along to the beat, and a smile appears on her lips once she realizes that you’re only looking at her. Her eyes stay on you for the rest of your set. When you close, singing a song about how you want to get drunk and go dancing under the stars, you can’t help but notice the way that the woman licks her lips.
You step off the stage, and you’re immediately bombarded by a few of the men who you would consider to be regular fans of yours. You aren’t interested in the free drinks that you could get off of them tonight. No- instead, you sit down at the bar and order yourself a beer, hoping that the green eyed beauty would make her way over to you.
She does, of course. She slides onto the barstool next to you with a soft smile as she sips her own beer.
The woman glances at the Yuengling you ordered before waving the bartender over. “Put her drink on my tab.”
“Oh,” you blush. “You don’t have to do that.”
“A pretty girl deserves a drink,” she tells you. “Especially after she practically sang her entire set to me.”
You blush. “You noticed?”
“How could I not?” she chuckles back. “A gorgeous girl with the voice of an angel singing to me that she already fell and wants to get some pizza and then get drunk and go dancing under the stars? Yeah, I notice. You got a name.”
“I do,” you smile back easily. “Y/N.”
“Melissa.”
The two of you spend the rest of the night at the bar chattering about, and by the end of the night you have her number.
You stand on the street corner as you wait for an Uber back to your apartment. “So, tomorrow at six? I can pick you up after work to get some pizza,” you reference the first song you stumbled through to her.
“I would love that,” Melissa tells you.
Your Uber pulls up, and you daringly kiss her cheek before climbing in. You go to shut the door, but you’re stopped at the call of your name.
“Yeah?”
“Let me know when you make it to your place safely.”
“You do the same.” Your driver pulls off, and you watch as she starts to make her trek back to her own townhouse.
Since that one night, you and Melissa have been seeing each other rather steadily. It’s been almost two years at this point, and you couldn’t be happier with the way that this relationship is progressing. The two of you are actually speaking of moving in together and starting your lives as a unit. You never thought that she would get to that level of commitment given her past, so you’re thrilled and eagerly agree when she’s the one to bring it up.
Having your income from being an aide at Abbott (of course, you’re your girlfriend’s aide) as well as Melissa’s income as the second grade teacher, and grade level leader for the school meant that instead of two separate and small apartments, you could upgrade to a nicer, bigger apartment- or a townhouse if you could find one in your budget.
You’ve been searching for places to live, and you’re fairly certain that you’ve found one that you absolutely adore. The two of you sign the forms in order to obtain ownership of the quaint little townhouse that you found in Queen Village before you head off to your own apartment with your girlfriend in tow to change into something a bit more appropriate to sing at the bar in. You sling your guitar over your own shoulder while Melissa takes your ukulele for you and sets it in its case- she carries that instrument to the bar for you.
While she mills about, you begin to set up the stage for your little set. The crowd that you attract is a steady one; most of the people that occupy the bar are your regulars, although there are always a few new faces. You sing your standard songs to show your range from broadway hits turned acoustic, all the way to the classics, and everything in between, and then finally back to your own original music.
The entire time that you sing, you feel eyes on you- what do you expect? You’re standing on the stage by yourself with just your strings and your voice as you pour your heart out onto the stage through song. But as opposed to the easy eyes that Melissa usually gives you and the smiles that your usual patrons have on their faces, there’s a woman and a man sitting in the back with rather… judgmental faces, lips quirked to one side and eyebrows furrowed as they whisper to each other while you sing. You clock them before turning back to your girlfriend and singing with the bright smile that you usually wear.
The final song that you sing is the one that you wrote in college, about how you have to make money, but you’ve never quite been the one to go out there in search of your real dreams- singing and writing music, releasing albums. Although you wrote it in a time where you were a struggling college student having a hard time even just putting dinner on the table and you’re now much better off, the lyrics resonate with you hard. You’re still trying to figure everything out in this crazy world that you’ve been thrown into. As you sing the last lyric, you look to Melissa, who nods. She silently assures you that you’re going to figure it all out together, she’s on your team now, and together you’ll be just fine. You thank everyone for coming out and to wish them a good night before heading off the stage- you’ll pack up later. Right now, you have a redhead to kiss.
And you do. She tells you how wonderful you were today, just as she does after every stint that you do, and you smile into the kiss.
“You were so good tonight, amore,” Melissa tells you softly. “Like, you’re always great, but tonight was exceptional.”
“I don't know,” you shrug as you pull away from her. “There was this couple in the back staring at me, and they didn’t seem like they were enjoying it.”
“Well, fuck them,” your girlfriend rolls her eyes. “You were phenomenal tonight.”
You give her a smile, but it isn’t one that quite reaches your eyes. Then, in your peripheral view you can see the couple that was staring at you with darker eyes than most start to make their way up to you. You straighten just slightly, and Melissa looks at you curiously. She jumps when she hears a voice directed at you.
“Y/N?” the woman taps you on the shoulder.
You turn just slightly to face her. “Yes?”
“Marina, and this is my husband Tyler,” she tells you as she sticks a hand out to shake.
It turns out that the couple was a scouting agent, and the owner of the bar had invited them to come out to listen to you. When you turn to see Scott nodding along next to them, you give him a wide eyed look.
“Kid, I knew if I told you, you’d freeze. Am I wrong?” Scott asks.
“Well, I-”
“He ain’t wrong, mi amore,” Melissa chuckles as she kisses your cheek. “You would’ve been a nervous wreck.”
“Why do you think I told you to sing more of your originals?” the owner chuckles.
“Regardless,” the man tells you. “My wife and I are record producers, and ol’ Scotty here is a friend from the past. While we were in town, he told us we should come check you out. You got talent.”
You blush a furious shade of red. “Thank you.”
“We think you got what it takes,” Marina tells you. “How would you feel about coming out to LA to produce a record with us?”
As if your eyes weren’t already wide enough, they only continue to grow, and your eyebrows creep up your forehead. “What?”
“LA,” Tyler repeats. “As in… Los Angeles.”
You end up discussing with them while they’re out visiting, in the dimly lit bar during the lull of the day. You’re set to go out to the golden state at the end of the month, although they aren’t sure how long you’ll be out there. You’ve given them multiple demos and samples of songs you’ve written… they love them all.
Marina and Tyler are willing to put a great amount of time into you and your record- they know that you have what it takes to make it big. You have a wonderful personality, your heart is on your sleeve, your lyrics are relatable, and your melodies are absolutely stunning.
And so, with all of the unexpected expenses of you moving out to LA for the unforeseen future to create your dream, your plans to move all of your things out to your new townhouse are put on hold. Melissa understands- she’s thrilled for you, really. She isn’t necessarily thrilled that she’ll be out an aide and without her girlfriend at night, but this is what has to happen for you to attain your dreams. So, she goes along with it.
You hate that you have to be away from her for an extended amount of time- and right as everything was falling into place. You had asked Melissa if she really was okay with this all, and she assured you that you should follow your dreams. You promise her that you’ll call her every night, and if it gets to a point where it’s putting too much of a strain on your relationship you’ll fly back and forget about it. Your girlfriend tells you that that is absolutely ridiculous, and that the two of you will be just fine.
All my bags are packed, I’m ready to go. I’m standin' here outside your door. I hate to wake you up to say goodbye. But the dawn is breakin’, It's early morn. The taxi's waitin’. He's blowin' his horn. Already I'm so lonesome, I could die.
The night before you leave, you have to stay at your own apartment while she stays at hers. You hate waking up alone, but you suppose you should get used to it. You won’t have her body next to you for at least the next month.
Come morning, your bags are packed and loaded into the taxi that’s taking you to the airport. You had already said goodbye to Melissa last night, but after some thought, you have the taxi take you to your girlfriend’s instead. You promise him that you’ll pay the fare that you run up while you say goodbye to your girlfriend one last time. He rolls his eyes but does oblige to your request- after all, it’s making him money.
As you pull up to her townhouse, you call her.
“Hello?” she answers groggily.
“Baby, I’m outside your door. I’m sorry I woke you so early, but… I just need to see you one last time.”
You can hear her tumble out of bed with a promise that she’ll be there quickly. Her arms are around you before you even hang up the phone.
“I thought you were supposed to be heading to the airport,” she whispers against your neck.
“The taxi’s right there,” you sigh softly. “But I was already lonely.”
“I’m sure you’re going to have a great time,” she assures you. “Marina and Tyler are going to take care of you, and I’m always just one phone call or text away.”
“It’s gonna be a lot different than seeing you all day everyday though,” you mumble.
She nods reluctantly. “But we’ll be just fine, and you’re going to get your dream.”
The taxi man blows his horn, signaling that you really should get going if you’re going to make it to the airport on time.
So kiss me and smile for me. Tell me that you’ll wait for me. Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh babe, I hate to go.
“You should really get going, mi amore,” Melissa whispers a bit tearfully.
You nod with eyes full of sadness. She kisses you one more time before pulling away and smiling at you softly.
“You’re going to be just fine,” she promises you. “And I’ll be right here- waiting for you to come home.”
“I love you,” you mumble as you pull her in one more time. She holds you like she’s never going to let you go, but then the taxi’s blowing the horn again. So, your girlfriend releases you and sends you on your way before you lose your nerve.
There’s so many times I’ve let you down- so many times I’ve played around. I tell you now, they don’t mean a thing. Every place I go, I’ll think of you. Every song I sing, I’ll sing for you. When I come back, I’ll bring your wedding ring.
It’s been about two weeks since you’ve been out in Los Angeles without Melissa by your side. And honestly? You’ve been so incredibly busy with everything happening that you’ve hardly texted her, much less actually got to call her on the phone. You’re in the recording booth early in the morning, and you don’t stop working there until you have to head down to one of the bars that Marina and Tyler were able to get you in at. By the time you’re finished your sets, it’s nearly three in the morning for your girlfriend.
After many promised but missed calls, you finally have a moment to breathe. So you dial her. She doesn’t answer. A glance at your phone tells you why- it might be noon here, but it’s 3:00 back in Philadelphia- Melissa is definitely getting ready to see her students off for the rest of the day and can’t answer. You sigh and shoot her a text.
I’m sorry I’ve been so insanely busy lately that we’ve barely gotten to talk. I’m not trying to let you down or play around- and if you say the word and let me know that you want me to come home, I will. I miss you. I love you.
She doesn’t respond until much later, telling you that she understands and that this is everything that she expected it to be.
You call her immediately, not caring that you should be warming up your voice for a night of singing and playing- you’ve been singing since seven this morning. You’ll be fine. And you can always tune up later.
“Hi mi amore,” your girlfriend’s low voice comes through. “I’m shocked you’re calling this late.”
Time change. “Shit. I’m sorry, hun. I won’t keep you.”
“No,” she protests immediately. “I miss you, so I’ll lose an hour of sleep for you.”
“So romantic,” you chuckle as you roll your eyes. “I miss you too, hun.”
“How has LA been?”
“Every place I go, I end up thinking about you in one way or another. Whether it be that I’m singing a song about you and for you, or if I’m at a bar I think you’ll like. I’ll see the kids getting out of school across the street from the studio… you’re always on my mind.”
“The kids here miss you,” Melissa sighs softly. “They keep asking when you’ll be back so I’m not as in much of a mood.”
“I can get on a flight right now,” you tell her seriously.
You can practically see her green eyes roll. “No. You’re doing what you want.”
“I did tell Marina and Tyler that if any sort of success comes out of this, the next record that I make has to be closer to Philly- that I will put it into my contract that I will be producing it from their studio in New York instead.”
Melissa just sighs softly. “That would be nice. How much longer do you think you’ll be there?”
“It should only be a couple more weeks,” you promise her. “And then I’m coming home to be with you.”
You don’t let it slip that while you’ve been here, you were able to find an absolutely stunning ring to propose to her with. It’s already packed away in your carry-on bag so you can ask her as soon as your home. If this experience taught you anything, it’s that you want to be with that redheaded beauty for the rest of your life.
You end up flying home that weekend, just to visit her- it’s been too long, and you need to see her again or you think you might die. When she picks you up at the airport, you immediately get down on one knee and propose. She says yes, and you slip that stunning ring that you found in LA on her finger. In return, when you get home, she heads into the bedroom and pulls out a ring that she had bought for you two days after you left for the west coast.
But that weekend goes by too quickly, and she’s dropping you back off at the airport before she has to head back to Abbott.
So kiss me and smile for me. Tell me that you’ll wait for me. Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh babe, I hate to go.
“I love you,” you whisper, her forehead pressed against your own at the gate.
“I love you too,” she echos your sentiment just as quietly. “I’ll be waiting here for you in two weeks when you come home for good.”
“I know you will,” you mumble as you move to rest against her shoulder. You hold her like you’ll never let her go. And you won’t. Now that she has that stunning rock on her finger, and you have your beautiful diamond, she’s stuck with you.
“At least this time we know when you’ll be coming back,” she sighs quietly, stroking your hair.
“Yeah,” you concede. “But I hate that I have to leave you again… especially after we just got engaged.”
“But you’ll be back,” she smiles softly and kisses you one last time. “Now go, before you miss your flight.”
When Melissa enters Abbott that day, Barbara is, of course, the first to notice the new shiny rock on her finger.
“Oh, Melissa, did you finally pop the question?”
“Y/N actually did,” your now fiancée tells her work wife. “As soon as she got off the plane, she came running for me and got down on one knee.”
“That’s so wonderful. Congratulations.”
“What are we congratulating Schemmenti about?” Ava comes waltzing in behind the two of them at the coffee machine. “Get out of some legal trouble?”
“No,” Melissa smirks. “Actually…” she holds up her left hand and wiggles her fingers.
The principal grabs her hand and inspects the ring. “Damn, girl. That’s one big rock.”
As the rest of the group comes filing in, they too learn of the engagement. Congratulations are sung loud and high from some, while others resort to a simple, “Congratulations to you both.”
Throughout your day out in LA, you get texts from the Abbott group that you miss so dearly congratulating the two of you. Each time you answer one, you just send back a picture of your own ring.
The two weeks that you spend apart from Melissa after getting engaged are practically torturous. But the day finally comes that you get to see her again, and you thank every star that you’re able to wrap her up in your arms and never let you go.
Now that you’re back to life in Philly, at least for the time being, you revert back to your old life. You enter the elementary school hand in hand with Melissa on Monday, and everyone is somewhat shocked to see you.
“What?” you ask as you sit down at your table, Melissa heading over to the coffee maker for the two of you. “Didn’t expect to see me back?”
“You went off to play rockstar,” Gregory tells you. “And we all know you have a hell of a talent, so yes. It’s a bit shocking to see you back.”
“Well,” you sigh. “My album won’t be released for another few months- we were just laying the tracks. So, for now, and probably for forever- because I’m not that great- I’m back to being here with you all.”
“We’re all happy that you’re back, dear,” Barbara tells you gently as she lays a hand over yours. “Now let me see that rock of yours before I explode!”
The studio has you release a single of yours before you release the entire album. You pick the upbeat song that you have written- you took notes from Taylor Swift. It may not be your favorite song on the album, most of them being soft ballads, but a pop hit will send you up the charts for your first single. And it does. Your song plays on a near loop on the radio. It gets to a point that if you and Melissa are driving and you hear it, you have to change the channel.
“Honey, don’t,” Melissa tries to bat your hand away, but you’ve already switched stations. “I like your song.”
“I heard it a billion times,” you sigh.
“But I like hearing your voice.”
“I’ll sing for you when we get home, okay? Just… not that song anymore,” you try to compromise.
“Can you sing the growing up song?” she requests softly. “The one about your dad?”
You swallow. “Yeah.”
And you do. When you get home, you grab your guitar and your ukulele and sing her the acoustic versions of your songs- not the done up ones that the studio had produced.
While you’re waiting for the rest of your album to come out, you and your fiancée find yourself deep in wedding planning. You also find that a townhouse close to the one that you almost closed on all those months ago is up for sale, and for much cheaper. You purchase it immediately, despite your worries. Melissa tells you that she has faith in you and your music, and you’ll be fine financially once your album comes out.
When your album comes out, it’s an instant success. It comes as a bit of a shock to you- it’s rare anymore that newcomers to the industry have the levels of success that you’re experiencing right now. Various morning shows reach out to you, and you find yourself having to take a leave of absence from the school in order to travel and do interviews, talk shows, and performances. You only agree to do it if you can do them all in LA first, and then in New York before you return home to Philadelphia. You ensure that you do it in as short a time as possible- you have a wedding to plan. You make that very clear to Marina and Tyler. Yours and Melissa’s students are sad to see you go, but they know that you have to do it. They’ve heard your songs on the radio- they now know the talent that their classroom aide possesses.
Now the time has come to leave you. One more time, let me kiss you. Then close your eyes, and I’ll be on my way. Dream about the days to come when I won’t have to leave alone- about the times I won’t have to say, Kiss me and smile for me. Tell me that you’ll wait for me. Hold me like you’ll never let me go.
The day that you fly out to LA once again is one that you aren’t necessarily thrilled about. You wish that you could take Melissa with you. This would all be so much easier to cope with- the fears of flying, the being thrown into the eyes of the media without much prep, the imposter syndrome- if your fiancée was there with you.
You promise her today that you’ll be fine taking an Uber to the airport instead of her waking up ridiculously early on a weekend to take you. Begrudgingly, she agrees; her kids have been running circles around her lately. She does make you promise that you’ll wake her to see you off before heading back to bed. You nod with a smile.
As you watch her sleep, for just a few seconds before you have to wake her, your heart breaks. All you want to do is stay with her. But you can’t, because you have to promote all of your music if you want to have a shot at bringing in the big bucks.
“Honey,” you shake her shoulder gently. She groans but does peel her eyes open to look at you. “I have to leave.”
She nods, eyes still half open. “I love you.”
“I love you too,” you whisper as you lean down to kiss her. “Now go back to sleep. Dream about when I won’t have to leave you here anymore, and you can come travel with me.”
“I will,” she sighs softly. “But know that I’ll always be waiting here for you to come home.”
“I know,” you respond quietly. “I don’t know when I’ll be back this time, but I already can’t wait to come back to you. I hate leaving you.”
“Just think…” your fiancée smiles at you sleepily. “We’ll be married in a few months, and then it’s just us against the world.”
“It already is us against the world,” you tell her as you stroke her cheek with your thumb.
“Yeah,” she chuckles lowly. “But then at least in interviews you can refer to me as your wife.”
“I can’t wait for that day,” you sigh dreamily. You glance at the clock. “Okay, I really have to get going. The Uber is going to be here any second.”
Melissa leans up to give you one last kiss. “I’ll be waiting for you.”
Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh babe, I hate to go.
Cause I’m leaving on a jet plane, don’t know when I’ll be back again. Oh babe, I hate to go.
Chapter Seven
Wednesday morning was supposed to start like it always did - small talk with your mom over a bowl of cereal and then running out the door before the conversation whittled down to awkwardness. You wish you could appreciate your mother’s efforts to try to connect with you, but she never asked about anything beyond school and skating - once those two subjects were exhausted, it was as if you two had nothing more to talk about.
But today was different. Today, your dad was actually sitting at the breakfast table instead of rushing to his office before you even came downstairs. Today, your head was a little fuzzy from drinking the night before. Today, you wished you had just run out the door and skipped breakfast, because you could see right away that your parents wanted to have a conversation.
You paused briefly in the kitchen entry, looking between the two before trying to act casual, walking towards the pantry and preparing a quick breakfast. You could feel their eyes following you, and damn did you wish someone would just say something. Your father always acted like this before a serious conversation - he stayed silent to intimidate you, to put you on edge in hopes that it would make you more pliable to what he had to say. You’d always assumed he did this to clients and business associates as well, as if to suggest some kind of dominance over them. Well, you weren’t going to let it get to you that easily, you never did before.
You sat at the opposite end of the table from your father, your mom hovering at the kitchen sink although there were no dishes to be cleaned. You started to eat as if you were totally unphased by their watchful eyes, as if you were entirely oblivious to their stares, although you knew neither of them bought the act for a second. One of you was going to cave eventually, and it sure as hell wasn’t going to be you.
Sure enough, your mom spoke first as she approached the table, just like you expected her to, “You have practice after school today?”
You gave her a critical look before nodding - you knew that she knew you always skated on Wednesday, making that a pretty pathetic attempt at breaking the tension in the room.
“Are you actually going?” Your father asked in an accusatory tone, although he maintained a neutral expression so as not to give away what he was thinking.
You couldn’t help the mean look in your eyes as you met his intense gaze. Your tone was stubborn and cold, “Yes.”
“And will that boy be there?” The disdain in your father’s words was clear as day. Your brow knotted at the question, both because you didn’t like his tone and because you wondered how he found out about Eddie already.
“Boy?” Your tone was mocking - you weren’t feigning ignorance, but rather presenting your father with a challenge, daring him to elaborate on what had gotten his mood so twisted. And it was clear in his face that he didn’t appreciate your attitude one bit.
“Mrs. Redford saw you two together on Friday.” Your mother chimed in, hoping to serve as the calm mediary considering that you and your father were both intense, mean people.
Of course it was Mrs. Redford who told your mom about Eddie - she was such a damn gossip, and with her daughter participating in your skating lessons, you should have known she would have noticed you leaving with Eddie that night. She was drawn to drama and gossip as if it was the air she breathed, so it was certainly no surprise that she ran off to tell your parents about this new boy that she spotted you with.
“Why does it matter?” You dropped your spoon in the forgotten breakfast that sat in front of you, slouching into your seat in growing frustration.
“Because he’s clearly a troublemaker.” Your dad’s tone matched yours, causing you to roll your eyes, “Don’t you dare roll your eyes at me.”
Your jaw clenched at the threat in his voice, “How could you possibly know someone is trouble without even meeting them?”
Your father pressed his palm to the table firmly, “Because I know his type - a lazy punk only interested in skating by and disrespecting the establishment. I’m a good judge of character.”
“How?” You insisted with exasperation, causing your father to look down on you as if you were some stupid kid.
“You were out way past curfew last night - were you with him?” Your dad glowered, and evidently your expression gave him the answer he wanted, “You ran out the door without telling your mother where you were going or who you were with. She saw you climb into some van, for Christ sake. And the way Mrs. Redford described this hoodlum? The leather, the hair, the tattoos? What’s gotten into you?”
You held your ground firmly, glaring as you crossed your arms, “I don’t see what the issue is.”
“The issue is you’re acting out, you’re avoiding us, and this boy you’re seeing seems to be encouraging this behavior!” Your father raised his voice, “I don’t care that you’re eighteen now, you still live under my roof.”
“You don’t care about anything!” You can’t help but shout back, “You only care now because you’re worried I’ll make you look bad. You’re worried about stupid gossip!”
“That’s not what this is about!”
“We’re just worried about you,” Your mother tried to intervene in an even tone, drawing the attention of the both of you, “We don’t want you to lose sight of what’s important just because of a boy.”
You throw up your hands in defiance, your voice harsh, “What important things am I ‘losing sight of!?’”
“Don’t take that tone with your mother!” Your dad jumped back in, “The last thing you need your senior year is some punk distracting you from school, from skating. You need to consider your future. Don’t you want to get into a good school? Don’t you want to skate?”
“I don’t know what I want!” You admitted angrily, “Maybe I don’t want to go to college or skate or do the shit you tell me to! Maybe I just want to enjoy life a little.”
“Enjoying life doesn’t get you anywhere.” Your father glared, “We tell you these things to help you. So, stop hanging around this boy and start focusing on your future.”
“You didn’t care what I was doing before, why do you care now?” You challenged coldly, “You didn’t care when I was out late with Duncan, you didn’t care when I’d miss practice because I’d be out with Amelia or Janet. You only care now because it’s Eddie.”
You instantly realized you shouldn’t have mentioned his name. Not yet, at least, not in the middle of this argument. Yes, you wanted your parents to know you were “dating” some new, troublesome guy, but you didn’t want them to actually know who he was yet - you had hoped to build up a little more suspense first, a little more tension between you all. You hoped your face didn’t give away what you were thinking.
“Eddie?” Your father laughed as he said the name, “You call things off with this Eddie now, do you hear me?”
You looked between your parents’ faces - your father looked as stern and condescending as ever, and your mom looked like she was away somewhere in thought. Perhaps she was trying to pinpoint any Eddies she’d heard of before and figure out who the hell he is.
A frustrated sound leapt from your throat as you rose to your feet aggressively, the legs of your chair making a grating sound on the floor.
“Whatever,” You spun around to leave, seeing the time on the wall clock before shooting your parents a mocking look, “I’m going to be late. Great job getting me back on track.”
You knew just how rude your tone was, so you practically ran out of the kitchen to avoid your father’s wrath.
“Excuse me!?” His offended voice shouted after you. You scooped up your school bag and your car keys, running out the door without looking back.
Just like you suspected, you were late for your first period class, receiving a reprimanding from your teacher, which only served to piss you off even more. Today just wasn’t your fucking day. So, by the time you walked into your math class a couple hours later, it was actually something of a relief to see Eddie already there; why you were actually pleased to see him was a thought you weren’t quite ready to entertain.
He grinned once he spotted you, but the way you flopped into your seat caused his face to immediately twist with curiosity. He leaned forward, resting his elbows on his knees, his legs situated in the aisle between you two.
“Feeling hungover, princess?” He asked with only a small jest in his tone, as if he could tell that you weren’t in the mood right now. His eyebrows furrowed together as you glared, although you knew he wasn’t the one that deserved the cold look.
“No.” You groaned, your jaw clenched tight enough to hurt your teeth. You sighed through your nose, trying to collect yourself - it was stupid to let this frustration eat at you, although you were always prone to holding onto grudges.
Eddie nudged your knee softly, so you met his eyes again. He stared at you patiently and inquisitively, “So, what’s wrong?”
You considered for a moment whether or not you wanted to tell him. With a sigh, you sat up in your seat, turning so that you mirrored Eddie, legs in the aisle and knees brushing his. You let your knees rest there, allowing the small amount of contact as if you needed it to ground you, as if you even enjoyed it.
“It’s my parents.” You start, looking down at where your knees met his. Your skirt was short and his jeans were ripped, so you were skin-to-skin. It didn’t matter, of course, you were simply trying to find something else to focus on, “They aren’t thrilled about you.”
“Oh, so you told them?” Eddie gave you a small grin, hoping to lighten your mood a little. And you wouldn’t admit it, but it was already beginning to work.
“One of my neighbors saw us together.” The bell rang in the middle of your sentence, but neither of you faced forward, eyes staying locked on one another.
“You seem pretty worked up about it.” His quiet tone had a hint of question to it, clearly wondering what exactly happened with your parents. Your teacher began going down the attendance sheet and the focus of today’s lesson.
“My dad’s a dick.” You responded in a whisper, “Just grilling me about shit - about you - as if I were a damn criminal or something.”
The sound of your name on your teacher’s lips drew your attention, and you harshly met her stare, “Would you two like to join the class now?”
You rolled your eyes as Eddie smiled lazily, the both of you turning to face forward. He reached out to give your knee one more playful nudge, as if to assure you that all would be well.
As the teacher began her lesson, you and Eddie kept stealing glances at one another conspiratorially, which helped to slowly ease the tension in your shoulders, to slowly relax your mood. After another couple of minutes, Eddie held a folded piece of paper between the two of you, obviously intending for you to read it. You slyly took it from him, fingers brushing against his as you wondered what he possibly had to say right now.
I think I can win him over.
The silly little doodle accompanying the note emphasized the joke, and you couldn’t help but grin at it just a little. You side-eyed Eddie, catching the way he smiled mischievously at you. With a roll of your eyes, you scribbled down a reply and handed it to him.
All the charm in the world wouldn’t win him over.
You watched Eddie’s face out of the corner of your eye, awaiting his reply with a hint of eagerness. The note was back in your hand once again.
So you admit I’m charming?
A small huff of a laugh escaped you as you rolled your eyes, beginning to write a response. But a presence walking down the aisle drew your attention, noticing your teacher was walking right to you. Your stomach dropped a little, realizing you were caught, but you simply looked up at her as if you did nothing wrong.
“Is there something you two would like to share with everyone?” She asked accusatory, crossing her arms in reprimand. You held her eyes with a challenging stare - god, this day just kept giving you hit after hit.
“Nothing in particular.” You retorted, hearing someone in the room make a nonplussed sound. Your teacher glowered at your attitude.
“Then I suggest you follow along or take this little conversation to detention.”
You gave her a mean, mocking smile, baring your teeth almost as if it was a threat, “I’ll take the detention, please.”
Again, more surprised sounds from the teacher and from students. You dared to look over at Eddie, who looked both taken aback and impressed at how difficult you were being today.
“Excuse me?” Your teacher challenged you.
Your eyes were dark as you stood your ground, “Detention. Please.”
The teacher looked between both you and Eddie with a huff, but a moment later a decisive look crossed her features, which put you on edge.
“Fine, if that’s how you want it to be. You can go to detention. Mr. Munson will stay here.” You gaped, your eyes glaring at the back of her head as she turned to walk back towards her desk, “No point in sending the both of you, right?”
You hated the fact that even your teacher was now mocking you, resented the fact that this day just kept piling more shit on your shoulders. You shared a look with Eddie, who looked sorry for landing you in trouble; you thought that you should’ve been upset at him for it, but you weren’t. It seemed like Eddie was the only person not getting on your last nerve today.
You rose to your feet as your teacher walked back towards you, a slip of paper in her hand outstretched to you. Haphazardly, you threw all your belongings in your bag before aggressively snatching the note from your teacher.
“You give that to the detention attendant, I don’t want to hear that you ran out on it.” She instructed with that hint of satisfaction in her tone. You glowered back at her.
“Bite me.” You spun on your heels as various students made, yet again, sounds of excitement at the harsh tone and words you threw at the teacher. As she started spewing some kind of reprimand that you weren’t listening to, you marched out of the room.
What a fucking day. You stomped down the hall, steam practically coming from your ears with how pissed off you were. In annoyance, you balled up the detention slip and tossed it at the nearest trash can, although you missed, which irritated you even more.
You’d never gotten detention before. Under different circumstances, you probably would have been thrilled to be sent to detention, to finally be enough trouble for a teacher to send you off. But after the morning you’ve been having, all you could feel was frustration.
Less than a minute after you stomped out of math class, you heard a door swing open and hit a wall somewhere behind you, prompting you to turn towards the noise. And once you saw who it was, you couldn’t help but smile with a surprising sense of glee.
Eddie Munson, your knight in shining armor.
He dashed down the hall to catch up with you, smiling just as widely as you were as he practically skidded to a halt in front of you. A small laugh escaped you as he hunched over in an attempt to catch his breath. He looked up at you with a mischievous twinkle in his eyes.
“Let’s get out of here.” He instructed simply, grabbing your wrist and dragging you down the hall with him. You allowed yourself to be led through the school, your smile settling into a simple, pleased smirk, relieved to have Eddie’s company.
“And where are we off to?” You asked, receiving a shrug from Eddie. Once you two had turned into a new hallway, he slowed so you could walk side-by-side, experimentally sliding his hand into yours. Once again, you still felt hesitant at more intimate contact such as this, but you allowed it without cringing too hard.
“Anywhere but here, you troublemaker.” He teased with a content smile, guiding you towards the school exit.
“So, we’re skipping?” You inquired, and you had to admit the idea really appealed to you right now - you’d had enough of today, and if you didn’t escape you thought you might explode with utter frustration.
“If that’s alright with you, princess.” Eddie gave you a silly expression while bumping your shoulder.
“Please get me the hell out of here.”
The most time you’d ever spent in a video arcade was for one pathetic round of Galaga while on a date with a boy your freshman year. Following that, you decided arcades weren’t for you - they were always crowded with a bunch of kids running around and shouting, and you’d branded all the adults that spent time at arcades as total losers. What could possibly be so appealing about games designed for children?
So, when Eddie pulled up in front of the Palace Arcade, you gave him a critical look, which he chose to ignore entirely as he stepped out of the van. He rounded to your side and opened the door, offering you a hand like a royal stepping out of a coach. You looked between his hand and his face for a moment, still judging the choice to come to an arcade. Reading the look on your face all too well, Eddie pulled his own affronted expression.
“What, too good for arcade games?” He put on an over-the-top, almost Shakespearean tone while placing a melodramatic hand to his chest, “But I’ve brought you to the Palace, the finest establishment in town for the ice princess.”
You rolled your eyes and tried not to laugh at him, unwilling to admit that even Eddie’s dumbest jokes were starting to win you over. Nonetheless, you took his outstretched hand with a large sigh, stepping out of the van despite your lack of interest in this place. Eddie, of course, smiled triumphantly, closing the door behind you and leading you into the arcade.
Given that it was only about noon, the place was virtually dead, which was quite the relief - no need to worry about loud, annoying kids getting in the way. Aside from the two of you and the Palace employee, there was a group of three college-aged boys clustered around Frogger and a lone man focused on something called Paperboy. None of the patrons looked up when you and Eddie entered, and the only reason the employee took any note of you is because it was simply his job. Of course, once he spotted you, he did a double-take.
The employee’s jaw hung slack as if in disbelief, and he nervously greeted you two, trying to keep his attention on Eddie. It appeared that the two were familiar with one another, and you wondered if Eddie really spent that much time here or if maybe this was a guy that used to go to school with the two of you. Either way, their interaction wrapped up quickly, and Eddie dragged you to the change machine.
As Eddie inserted a few bills, you looked around at the other arcade patrons, who finally seemed to take notice of you. In the group near Frogger, one of the boys nudged his friends, insisting they both look up; none so subtly, they all looked at you as the music from their arcade cabinet seemed to signal game over. You looked back with a raised brow and cold eyes, causing them all to quickly look away, although you were certain you’d probably catch them spying again. As you gazed back at Eddie, you couldn’t help the grin that spread across your lips - there was something about being the only chick in the arcade that amused you, something about being totally out of place and totally out of Eddie’s league.
Eddie stashed the change in his pocket, holding out a few quarters that you tentatively took from his hand.
“What first, princess?” You looked at him with a judgmental expression, causing him to narrow his eyes critically, “Come on, this’ll be fun.”
“Sure…” You looked around and assessed the arcade, pointing at the nearest cabinet without any consideration, “That one.”
Eddie huffed out a laugh at your choice while shaking his head, knowing you didn’t care one bit what game you started with, “Dig Dug, huh?”
You made another face at him, so he simply rolled his eyes and led you towards the game. He leaned against the cabinet while crossing his arms, giving you an expectant look; in turn, your brow scrunched.
Eddie shrugged, “Well, go for it - this one was your idea.”
“I don’t want to.” You responded as if affronted by the suggestion, “You play.”
Eddie once again rolled his eyes with an exacerbated grin, “I don’t play Dig Dug.”
“Then play something else.” You instructed stubbornly.
“You aren’t getting out of this one.” Eddie countered, motioning towards the cabinet he still rested against, “So, be a big girl and play the game.”
You gaped at his response, feeling a slight stir at his word choice. There was a challenging glint in his eyes that suggested he wasn’t going to back down easily, that he could volley with you all damn day. As you closed your mouth with a small purse to your lips, you looked around the arcade with a raised brow.
“I don’t want to play that one.” You crossed your arms, to which Eddie once more smirked at your stubborn determination.
“Then choose a different one.” He responded while mimicking your body language.
You narrowed your eyes at him before your gaze studied the rows of arcade cabinets, recognizing none of the names. This was something you were grossly uneducated on, arcades making just about as much sense to you as a foreign language. It wasn’t until you finally recognized the name of one that you allowed yourself to meet Eddie’s stare again.
“Okay. That one.” You once again pointed past his shoulder, so Eddie twisted around to see which cabinet finally caught your interest. A faint laugh escaped him as he looked back to you with an amused expression across his face.
“Oh, you wouldn’t like Donkey Kong.” His tone seemed to be daring you to argue, to prove him wrong. You pulled another face at him.
“I don’t like any of these. But I’ve seen that stupid monkey before.” Eddie shrugged in acceptance of your response as he continued to grin, pushing off the Dig Dug cabinet.
“If you insist.” He taunted while turning to walk towards Donkey Kong, you following behind him with a huff. But as you were nearly there, the gang of college kids beat you to it, causing both you and Eddie to halt; he began to turn to you, prepared to ask what the new plan was now that the one cabinet you showed interest in was taken.
Of course, you weren’t about to have that. Sure, you didn’t care an ounce about these video games and you had zero interest in actually playing, but you’d already had enough today, and you’d be damned if you let these guys play Donkey Kong instead of you. So, you brushed past Eddie with a determined look, marching up to them with all the authority in the world.
Excuse you,” You started rudely, drawing all their eyes in your direction. None of the three really looked like the nerdy type, so none of them backed down from you the way that you were used to, “I’m playing that one.”
They shared a laugh, clearly amused by your attempt to intimidate them. One of the boys countered, “You’re outta luck, we were here first.”
You insisted more firmly, “Just move.”
One of them looked between you and Eddie, provoked by your attitude, “There’s a whole arcade, go find something else to play.”
They returned to the arcade cabinet as if you weren’t even there, which pissed you off even more. You groaned loudly, looking at Eddie and pointing harshly at the boys as if there was something he could possibly do about them. He simply shook his head and grabbed your elbow, lightly tugging you along.
“They beat us to it.” He said as if there was some unspoken arcade rule that you weren’t familiar with. You glared at the boys as Eddie led you down the row, grinning as if to calm you down, “Come on, I got something I think you’ll like.”
“Doubtful.” You countered like a child, catching the way Eddie smiled to himself, both amused and enervated by your attitude. The two of you came to a halt in front of something called Tapper, and you glanced up at Eddie, awaiting an explanation.
“This one’s easy,” he started while presenting the cabinet to you, “Just serve drinks.”
“Okay…” You took in the pixelated graphics on the screen, hesitantly holding up a coin as you considered the game.
“Come on, just give it a try.” Eddie urged. You looked at the simple instructions next to the joystick while finally loading the coin into the machine. As the game began, Eddie turned his attention to the next cabinet over.
Eddie was right about this game being easy, at least for the first few rounds, although once you reached the first “game over” screen you groaned with frustration. That didn’t stop you from inserting another coin and trying again, much to Eddie’s amusement. You were getting the hang of this and, although you weren’t ready to admit it, you were coming to even enjoy Tapper.
Eventually, you ran out of coins, so you returned your attention to Eddie, who had been caught up in his own game. You watched him for a few moments before realizing the college boys were no longer at the Donkey Kong cabinet. Although you shouldn’t have cared so much, you nonetheless felt a sudden eagerness to run over and hog the game you previously missed out on. Hell, you didn’t even know what that game was about, but considering your previous snub, you now simply had to play this damn game.
So, you turned your gaze back to Eddie, who was incredibly focused on the shooting game he was in the middle of, “Donkey Kong is open.”
“So, go play.” He responded with a far off tone, clearly caught up in what he was doing.
“I don’t have any coins.”
In an almost silly motion, Eddie nudged his hip in your direction, “I have some in my pocket.”
You looked down towards his hips, wondering why he didn’t simply pull his hand from the game for a moment to give you a few coins.
Impatiently, his eyes flicked over to you for only a moment; he could tell what you were thinking, “Just reach in and grab a few.”
“Uh, no.” Your voice oozed with attitude.
“Then no Donkey Kong.” He replied with a simple shrug. With a slight glare, you looked between his face and the screen, watching his hectic game for a few long moments. Your gaze drifted back towards Donkey Kong with a mild longing, but you quickly righted yourself - you did not care that much about a stupid arcade game. You could wait until Eddie was done, you didn’t need to play it that bad.
The sound of the front door opening drew your attention as a new man entered the arcade, and your first thought was “shit, is he going to play Donkey Kong?” Why the hell did you care so much? But you couldn’t risk missing out on the game again, so you returned your attention back to Eddie, taking him by total surprise as you reached into his pocket and extracted a handful of coins quickly before you could think about how intimate that action was.
“Jesus, warn a guy before you go digging around in his pants.” Eddie chided with a playful grin, not allowing his gaze to stray from the shooter in front of him.
“Shut up.” You countered while marching towards Donkey Kong, determination etched across your face as you relished in the stupid victory of finally being about to play this damn game.
Of course, you very quickly learned why Eddie had told you before that you wouldn’t like Donkey Kong. Your dumb little man in overalls lost all his lives within the first minute of you playing, and you let out an exasperated sigh as you slapped your hand down on the control panel. With a glare, you loaded another coin in, but due to your frustration you died even quicker than you had the first time, letting out another upset sound before you marched away from Donkey Kong as if the game had personally offended you.
Eddie was still focused on Robotron as you returned to his side with a huff, the sound causing the corner of his mouth to pull up. You glared at his face, “That game is stupid.”
“I told you.” He answered simply, amused by how easily you gave up on it.
“Why doesn’t it work?”
“Have you considered that you’re just bad at it?” Eddie’s eyes briefly look at you, that annoying grin of his not faltering for a moment. Your glare darkened as you turned to walk off, but Eddie’s voice stopped you from going anywhere, “Oh, come on, just wait. I’ll show you how to play the stupid monkey game.”
So, you waited impatiently for Eddie’s game to end, your eyes repeatedly drifting over to Donkey Kong as if in fear that someone else would take the machine from you. Once he was finally done with Robotron, Eddie gave you a teasing look, knowing that you were eager to return to the game that you supposedly didn’t like. With an adamant look, you spun around and marched back towards the machine, knowing that he was following right behind you.
“Just watch, I’ll play the first level for you.” Eddie instructed while loading in the money. He craned his neck back and forth, shaking out his arm as if he were warming up for some epic fight; you nearly smiled, but kept it to yourself. You leaned over Eddie’s shoulder a little as he began, “You have to be fast - this machine has a bit of a lag, so you need to think ahead.”
So, you watched Eddie play, annoyed at just how easy he made it look; evidently, he had a fair amount of practice. And with the first level completed in what appeared to be record time, Eddie stepped back, yanking you quickly in front of the screen to take over the controls. Just as quickly as the level started, though, you lost a life, jumping right into the line of a pixelated enemy. A frustrated noise left you, causing Eddie to laugh from behind you.
“You’ve got two more lives,” He stepped up closer to you, reaching around to put his hand over the jump button, “Lemme help.”
Working together, you managed to make a little bit of progress, but you all too quickly lost again, shoving the joystick in the wrong direction. As you huffed in annoyance once more, Eddie placed his free hand on the small of your back as if to remind you to calm down, the touch nearly causing you to jump from its gentleness.
“Okay, new plan.” Eddie stepped behind you, close enough that your back bumped against his chest. Your shoulders stiffened as he settled his hands on top of yours, your heart skipping as you realized you were pinned between him and the stupid Donkey Kong machine. Thank god he was behind you, because otherwise he would’ve seen the way your cheeks went red, the way your eyes widened with surprise.
You could feel Eddie’s breath against your ear, practically causing you to shudder, “Alright, let’s do this.”
As the level started again, you were grateful that Eddie was taking the reins, controlling your hands with his own, because your brain was way too jumbled to think clearly. Why the hell were you so nervous? How was Eddie Munson doing this to you? You were certain it had more to do with your disdain for people touching you, but you were far too confused to even begin to entertain why you felt so anxious with Eddie practically flush against your back.
You were so zoned out that you hadn’t even realized that the level was complete until Eddie stepped back, a victorious little laugh escaping him. Before you had time to even get your head on straight, the third level began, but you all too quickly fumbled, your game coming to a pathetic end. Composing yourself, you meet Eddie’s eyes with total coolness, hoping that the redness of your cheeks had gone away. His expression didn’t seem to indicate that he noticed anything off about you, so you took a deep breath.
“Help me again.” You instructed as you fished a coin from your pocket. Eddie looked mildly surprised by the instruction, as if he too was just realizing how intimate his assistance was the first time. You simply raised a brow at him while loading the machine with money, straightening your shoulders as he came up behind you once again.
You tried to focus on the game this time as Eddie placed his hands on top of yours again, doing your best to ignore how warm he was behind you, the way his cheek brushed against the crown of your head, how his grip on your hands seemed to be a little bit more firm. You took a couple of deep breaths and focused, approaching this the same way you did skating - with attentiveness to the goal. And your goal was to ignore Eddie and actually beat a level of this god damn monkey game.
So, you watched your little man run and jump across the screen studying the timing as Eddie moved your hands with his own, noting the subtle delay between the control command and the character movement on the screen. Even as you began to understand, you still recognized that it wasn’t going to be easy for you to beat as a total novice to gaming. As the first level came to an end, Eddie began to step back, his hands hovering just over yours, but you turned your head quickly, practically bumping foreheads as he stopped pulling away.
“Wait, one more round.” You instructed, his face so close to yours that you practically went cross-eyed trying to meet his gaze. You saw Eddie’s jaw clench slightly before you faced forward again, his hands settling on top of yours once way.
By the time you two completed the second level, you were grinning triumphantly, satisfied that you were winning, even if only because Eddie was helping you. As the screen went black for a brief moment, you glanced at the content expression of Eddie behind you, feeling his chin move against your head as he, too, smiled largely.
Instead of pulling away, Eddie asked simply, “One more?”
You hummed in agreement as the third level started, once more studying Eddie’s timing as he breezed through the game as if he’d played it a hundred times. For all you knew, he probably had. Just like with his guitar, Eddie’s hands moved with expertise, guiding yours with ease as you two once again completed the course on screen. This time, you let Eddie step back, feeling a little nervous as you realized you had to face Donkey Kong alone again. You also felt a very mild wave of disappointment, but you quickly shoved that aside so you could focus on your game.
But, of course, you struggled without Eddie’s assistance, fumbling the jump time and losing a life. You took a deep breath through your nose as you tried to focus, feeling Eddie’s gaze burning into you as the level started over. You tried to ignore the intensity of his stare as you started again, running through the level as fast as you could. You managed to get much farther than before, but you nonetheless made another mistake.
You looked towards Eddie, prepared to ask him for help, but he shut you down before you got a word out, “Oh no, you wanted to play this, remember? I can’t keep playing for you.”
You pouted only for a moment, returning your attention to the screen, trying and failing once more to beat the game. You threw your head back with an annoyed groan, stepping away from Donkey Kong while crossing your arms.
“I don’t see why people play this stupid game, it’s impossible.” You whined, causing Eddie to laugh while rolling his eyes.
“That’s the point - it’s challenging. You can’t be a winner all the time.” He teased while dipping his head down closer to yours, seeing right through your frustrations. To Eddie, it was obvious that you weren’t used to losing, and he loved how worked up you were getting over an arcade game of all things.
“If I’m not going to win, then I don’t want to play.” You countered childishly, your eyebrow raised as if daring him to comment on that. You spun on your heel and began to walk away from the offensive game cabinet, hearing Eddie following behind you.
“That’s part of the fun, ya know.” He started. You half expected him to sling his arm over your shoulders as he normally did, but this time he refrained, as if all that contact during Donkey Kong was just a little too much for one day. You threw him a look.
“Well, it’s not fun for me.” You weren’t sure where the hell you were walking off to considering that there wasn’t anywhere in the Palace to hide, but you were too caught up in simply being stubborn. Eddie laughed, rolling his eyes with a hint of fondness as he lightly snagged your arm and stopped you. You met eyes, Eddie grinning at your attitude that he was quickly becoming accustomed to.
“You say that now, but I guarantee you’ll be asking me to bring you back.” He teased, receiving a small glare from you in response. He shook his head a little, “Let’s go, your pouting is making this no fun.”
You could tell Eddie was just taunting you, so you gave his shoulder a small shove while pulling away from his hold. You wouldn’t dare admit that you actually had some fun, so instead you began for the exit, your tone nonchalant as you responded, “Thank god, if I stay here any longer the nerds might try to convert me.”
Behind you, Eddie shook his head fondly as he followed you out.
ʏᴇᴏɴᴊᴜɴ ᴀꜱ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴄʜɪʟᴅʜᴏᴏᴅ ‘ʙᴜʟʟʏ’ who you had sworn off years ago due to his persistent snarky comments and mean pranks. In your eyes he was nothing but a bully and you did everything in your might to keep your distance.
Yeonjun, who had only been a small boy with a crush on a small girl; now finds himself hopelessly watching you from afar as you laugh with your friends. Despite years passing and the fact that you were both grown up by this point, your grudge seemed to persist.
Yeonjun who doesn’t know how to express his feelings for you so he chooses to pull pranks instead, hoping it will catch your attention. Not understanding why you get upset with him and ignore him when he passes by; it only makes his comments grow nastier.
Yeonjun who trips you over in the hallways, yet hesitating — wanting to reach out a hand and help you back up again. Yeonjun who tells you that your shirt is dirty when he actually wants to tell you that blue looks nice on you.
Yeonjun who calls your boyfriend a down-grade from your last, when he wants nothing more but to be the one you call your own.
Tumblr media
ꜱᴏᴏʙɪɴ ᴀꜱ ʏᴏᴜʀ ʙᴏʏꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ’ꜱ ʙᴇꜱᴛ ꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ who always seemed to hang around your boyfriend whenever you were present. Your boyfriend who always explained it as it being a ‘guy thing’.
Soobin who knew that it was wrong to have a crush on his best friend’s girlfriend. So he never made a move.
Soobin who knew that he stood no chance against his best friend. Yeonjun was confident and charismatic, easily swooning you with every other sentence. All the while Soobin has to rehearse his next words before even daring to address you.
Soobin who gets flustered under your stare, and you don’t understand why he insists on hanging out with you and your boyfriend as he rarely speaks. Yeonjun who explains it as him being shy — it only makes Soobin feel even more guilty, his best friend oblivious to his true feelings.
“You listening, Binnie?” Your sweet voice makes his knees weak and Soobin has to blink a couple of times before realizing that he hadn’t heard a word of what you had just said; too lost in your eyes, the way your soft lashes subconsciously moved as you spoke.  “Uh-huh”, he splutters, earning a giggle from you, Soobin who loved your laugh.
Tumblr media
ʙᴇᴏᴍɢʏᴜ ᴀꜱ ᴛʜᴇ ʏᴏᴜɴɢᴇʀ ʙʀᴏᴛʜᴇʀ ᴏꜰ ʏᴏᴜʀ ʙᴏʏꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ who’s gaze always seemed to linger whenever you were around. His brother would often bring you over, and you would always so politely greet him, making his heart flutter like a little school boy.
Beomgyu who loved the way your eyes would crinkle up as you smiled at his jokes. He would always make excuses to pass by his brother’s room whenever you were over, earning quite the scolding from his elder sibling. In the end it was always worth it.
Beomgyu who doesn’t understand why you had chosen his older brother over him. His brother wasn’t twice as funny or good looking, yet he was the one who’s cheek you pressed soft kisses to whenever you could.
Beomgyu who doesn’t know if he loves it or hates it when you stay over. The sounds of your sweet moans as his brother has his way with you in the room next to his own –  keeps him up at night. And he knows it’s wrong, the way he tries to peek at you whenever he thinks you aren’t looking; he can’t help it.
Beomgyu who always got compared to his older brother, desperately wishing to have everything he had, most of all he wanted his girlfriend. Beomgyu who hopes that one day you’ll see what’s been right in front of you all along.
Tumblr media
ᴛᴀᴇʜʏᴜɴ ᴀꜱ ʏᴏᴜʀ ᴛᴜᴛᴏʀ who helped your grades go from D’s to B’s. Taehyun who usually never offered to tutor, despite being the top student in all of his classes, but when you came along, there had been no question about it.
Taehyun, who always waits for you after class so that you can study together. He doesn't mind when you don’t get it right away, in fact he likes explaining things to you, even if he has to do so over and over; only to see the way your eyes light up in joy as you finally understand.
Taehyun who loves when you ask questions about the subject he’s helping you with. Sometimes he even messes up, too lost in the way you chew on your pencil or the way your painted nails itch at your rosy cheek.
Taehyun whose mood turns sour as your friends approach, whisking your attention from him in milliseconds. Heart aching when you tell him that you would have to leave earlier because you had a date.
Taehyun who wishes you would ask to hangout outside of school, outside of tutoring. Taehyun who wishes you would ask questions about him and not the boring equations you tried to solve. Taehyun who wishes to be more than just your tutor.
Tumblr media
ʜᴜᴇɴɪɴɢᴋᴀɪ ᴀꜱ ʏᴏᴜʀ ʙᴏʏ ʙᴇꜱᴛ ꜰʀɪᴇɴᴅ who never seemed to understand the appeal you saw in the guys you chose to date. Who also never wrapped his head around the range of emotions they caused you to undergo.
“He’s such a dick!” You groan, slamming your phone down on the table as you lean back in your chair. Huening frowns, yesterday you had told him that he was perfect, you seemed to change your mind a lot.
“I’m sure he’ll come around” Kai reassures, though he secretly wishes he wouldn’t. You give him an uncertain look, “you think so?” Your best friend nods, “you’re gorgeous y/n, he would be a fool not to.”
"Oh, stop it!” you giggle, ignorant to the fact that he had meant every word. Hueningkai who wishes you would see yourself through his eyes, perhaps then you would realize his true feelings for you. Instead he’s forced to watch from the sidelines as guys sweep you off your feet.
He gives you a small smile, cheeks reddening as you wrap your arms around him in a tight hug. “You’re such a great friend, Kai” you sigh against his neck, his heart sinks, friend, that’s all he was to you.
Hueningkai who pats your back and dries your tears after yet another unsuccessful date. Hueningkai who listens to you vent about the guy you’re currently talking to, wishing more than anything to be in his shoes. Hueningkai who’s too much of a coward to ever admit his feelings out loud.
I saw you were accepting requests and I was wondering if you would be okay with writing a Law and kunoichi s/o scenario/drabble/one shot (whatever you like!)? I think it would be so cute seeing him nerd out over her 😌 I love your work! 🫶
hi anon!!! i'm so sorry this took so long! i had a lot of fun writing this though, it's kind of short so i hope you don't mind, it was a fun way to do something a bit more silly and outlandish and have our wonderful nerdy captain be a dork at the same time <3
also, i used this picture as a reference for reader's clothing. i know western media and costumes tend to have a very strange depiction of ninja clothing, but consider the often overlooked history of ninja in general, and especially female ninja, i wanted to make sure that i could depict something such as attire a bit more accurately!!!
Sudden Revelation
Law x Fem Reader
Law didn’t think it was possible to fall more in love with you, until you vanished from his sight.
Warnings: drabble fic, kunoichi/ninja reader, some light depictions of typical shounen action, fluffy ending, worried sick and nerdy law <3
Tumblr media
You were never one to stray too far from the pack.  Law knew this, and he loved that about you.  Your tendency to stay glued to either his side or the company of your crew mates meant that he didn’t need to agonize over your safety when on dry land for important missions. After the Heart Pirates split up on an unassuming island to investigate the theorized location of a poneglyph, leaving you to traverse with Penguin and Hakugan, Law expected tonight to be no different.
Until they returned to Law, eyes wide and frantic.  Without you.
“How the hell did you manage to lose her?  We haven’t even been off the ship for over an hour!” Law grumbled, suppressing the primal urge to yell at his crewmen.  Nighttime darkness shrouded the surrounding woods and village like a blanket, and the last thing the pirates needed was an irate captain waking up whatever potential defense force the people on this island had.  Instead, the surgeon’s voice came out of his larynx as a strangled, almost high-pitched groveling.
“We don’t know!” Penguin begged, holding his hands up in front of his face.  “We turned around to ask her something and she was just… gone!”
“I swear we didn’t see her,” Hakugan added.  “She was behind us when she vanished, but we didn’t hear anything.  It was like she just poofed into thin air.”
“Not even rustling or anything?  Just… nothing?” Law asked, his voice riddled with skepticism as his eyebrows furrowed, creasing the skin above his nose.  “How do you expect me to believe that?  She wouldn’t just outright disappear like that.”
“How do we know you didn’t teleport her away?” Penguin asked, his voice snarky.  “For all we know you could’ve snapped your fingers and transported her back to the ship because you were worried.”
Law’s piercing gaze shut down any more retaliation from the older man.  Pinching the bridge of his nose in between his calloused fingers, he grumbled, “You two go join my search team.  I’ll go look for her.”
Without putting up any more of a fight, Penguin and Hakugan booked it past their captain and into the woods where Law’s own small gaggle of Heart Pirates remained secluded in the treeline, watching the debacle unfold.  Law’s fist clenched around Kikoku tighter as he gazed left, then right, then journeyed into the darkness alone to search for you.
The profound worry plaguing him and the frustration at your sudden disappearance fought ruthlessly in his mind as he trudged through the brush.
You felt free in your shōzoku, much less constricted compared to your Heart Pirate boiler suit.  While your usual off-white clothing provided ample warmth and comfort while on the submarine, it was clunky and far too revealing when the need to be conspicuous developed.  As you adjusted your obi and shouldered your tantō, you couldn’t help but smile at how easily you slipped away from your crewmates.  But you needed to be fast.  It would only be a matter of time before Law found out you had vanished, and the clock was rapidly ticking.
You knew where the poneglyph was hidden, thanks to the efforts of Straw Hat Nico Robin, whom you had secretly contacted via Den Den Mushi while on your latest watch shift.  You had nothing to prove in going off alone.  Rather, you learned that the underground bunker where the stone was kept was heavily guarded by a squadron of local village folk who, despite their calm and welcoming demeanor in the daytime, were very hostile when the sun set below the horizon.  And you refused to let anything happen to your crew, not when you had the means to do something about it.
You swiftly stepped through the brush, dodging sticks and shrubs as your feet carried you deftly through the darkness, your dyed blue clothing helping you blend in near seamlessly through the inky surroundings.  It was far too dark to view the map you kept folded in your pocket, so you were relying on memory alone to find the entrance to the village bunker.  According to Robin, it was tucked away in between two large stones embedded into a mountainside.  The passageway would be so narrow that you’d need to sideways-shuffle through the opening in order to enter.  But you had no issue with that.
After what felt like hours of searching, squinting your eyes through the darkness to spot anything that looked remotely suspicious, you finally found your landmark.  Two huge boulders hiding a black abyss of an entrance in between their jagged surfaces.
You just barely stepped forward when a sword unsheathed behind you.
“Don’t move if you know what’s good for you,” an unknown voice called out through the darkness.
It wasn’t anyone you recognized.  Your hair stood on end as your mind reeled for your next action.
“Drop your weapon,” he demanded.
You closed your eyes, honing your senses.  With the way he had revealed his sword, just based on the sound it made, he wasn’t completely prepared to wield it.  It must have been lose in his grip, unsure as to whether or not he should strike or not.  He was surely unsteady on his feet, caught off-guard by your presence.  The confidence in his voice was a ruse, you were certain of it.
With a blinding motion, you pulled your tantō out of its own sheath and whirled around, gripping the handle of your blade firmly in your grasp.  The metal dug into your hand, coarse against your skin and yet so familiar to you, allowing you to land a swift cut to the chest of the unsuspecting village man.  You hadn’t wanted to draw any attention, but you didn’t really have much of a choice.  You had come so far in detecting the location of the poneglyph, you couldn’t just give up now.
Another shallow gash landed on the man’s arm as he staggered backward, his grip on his sword wavering with the shock of your lightning-quick attacks.  He was blindsided as he managed to sidestep another swipe from your short blade, his eyes wide and petrified through the darkness.  The back of his heel landed on a stick, snapping it in half and sending a sharp echo through the surrounding woods making your blood curdle.  Way to draw even more attention.  You flipped your blade in your hand to land another strike–
“ROOM.”
God damn it.
A bright, electric blue light engulfed the area in a bubble, a sensation that you would normally welcome, but now greeted with distaste.  All of your plans had been thoroughly ruined now.  You wondered how long Law had been searching the woods for any sign of life in order to find you.
“AMPUTATE.”
You stepped back just in time for a gust of air to whoosh past you, an indirect strike being landed on the man accosting you and bisecting him at the pelvis.  A shrill scream escaped his lungs as his upper body flopped onto the ground, his entire body frazzled as he gazed at his legs running around independently.  The sight was truly morbid, but you had seen it enough.
“Who the hell are you?!”  Law’s voice was incredibly fierce as he shouted through the darkness, the sound making your heart rate increase nervously.  You were in for it now, he was absolutely talking to you.  “Well?!”
You didn’t have anything fully concealing your face, and while your layers of clothing hid your form, your cover would be blown if you turned around.  You tried to lower your voice as you responded, “I’m not here to bother anyone.”
A long pause followed your words.  Neither of you were acknowledging the bisected stranger off to the side as Law’s room disappeared, leaving the separated torso incapacitated for the time being.
“Then why are you here?  I’m looking for someone,” he demanded.  He sounded as exhausted as he did frustrated, making your chest clench.
You bit the inside of your cheek, digging through your subconscious for a way out of this situation.  You didn’t want Law to see you for what you were.  You hated that you had kept this side of you hidden from him, but it was too important to you to keep your deeper skills hidden from your friends… from your lover.
When you took too long to respond, Law stepped closer.  His own nodachi was unsheathed and held outward in a threatening motion.  “Who.  Are.  You.”
There was no turning back now.  You pivoted on your heels and rotated your body to finally face Law, hoping that the darkness of the night and the overall color of your clothing would conceal your features enough that Law would have to really work at adjusting his pupils enough to see you.
The way his eyes immediately widened, though, told you that he figured you out near instantly.
“B… baby…?” he whispered, his arm lowering.  He frantically slipped Kikoku back into her saya, closing the gap between the two of you and holding out his hand, touching your shoulder as if he wasn’t sure it was actually you in front of him.
Now you felt awful.  His face had rapidly morphed from an expression of profound anger into one of desperate relief that he had found you.  He probably thought you had been captured or worse… and knowing how strongly he felt about losing you…
You opened your mouth to apologize, but Law summoned another Room in order to teleport the two of you into a location that wouldn’t reveal your presence to whoever might have still been inside the cave entrance.  The bisected man could deal.
Law pinned you by one of your wrists against a tree, his hand trembling as he gently squeezed your limb.  “What… why…”
“Law… I’m so sorry,” you mumbled, your voice nothing but a whisper as you struggled to fully rationalize your actions in your head.  “I should have told you.”
You could make out through the darkness the way Law’s golden eyes were frantically examining your body, your clothes, your posture, your overall demeanor, looking for any signs of injury.  It seemed like he almost didn’t realize you weren’t in your boiler suit as he assessed you for any potential injuries.  When he finally did realize your garb was the complete opposite of the usual off-white jumper, he stepped back.  “What… are you…?”
You sucked in a shaky breath.  “A kunoichi,” you muttered.  “A ninja.”
Law finally stepped back enough to give you breathing room, and also pick apart your clothing in the darkness.  You were adorned in a layered hakama, your outer and innermost layers folded similarly to that of a kimono, and an indigo-colored obi was tied securely around your torso.  His jaw might as well have been on the floor.
“You’re a…” he stuttered, rapidly losing the ability to speak.
“A ninja,” you reiterated, keeping your voice low, still unsure about his current emotional state.  For all you knew he could blow up into an angry, petrified, desperate state, so convinced that he had lost you.
Instead, Law reached out a shaky, inked hand and gently ran his fingers across the outer seam of your hakama.
“How long have you… been a…”
“Since I was a child,” you answered, allowing him to digest this insane revelation at his own pace.
Kikoku was placed carefully on the ground, allowing both of Law’s hands to wander your body in a way that somehow replicated a child-like wonder.  He lifted your arms, gazing through the inky blackness at the carefully embroidered and printed details of the fabric that adorned you, spinning you around to examine the way your obi was holding your lower layers into place, trailing his fingers over the way the fabric seamlessly folded over your collarbones.  He went from top to bottom, picking apart every single aspect of your appearance.  This was the last reaction you were expecting from the man, to say the least.
“Law…?” you anxiously muttered, letting him lift up your arm once again to examine the way the fabric of your shōzoku flowed downward.  “Can you say something?”
Your boyfriend finally paused, his eyes darting up to meet yours.  “You’re really a ninja,” he asked, more-so wanting to confirm one last time that, yes, you were telling the truth.
“I am,” you nodded.
“Holy shit,” he uttered back, his voice airy and bewildered.  “That’s… you’re… you’re so cool.”
Your heart swelled twice its size at his words.  “You really think so?”
“Why didn’t you tell me sooner?” he suddenly asked, his hands never once leaving your figure.
You pursed your lips.  “I’ve been keeping it a secret forever, really… it just never occurred to me, I guess.”  That was only partially true, but you didn’t feel like now was the time to get into your worries of involving your lover or your crewmates into your risky solo endeavors.  “Are you… mad at me?”
“Furious,” Law stated back swiftly.  “I thought Penguin and Hakugan lost you for good.”
Your stomach rolled around uncomfortably in your stomach.  “I’m really sorry, Law… I know I should’ve told you.  I’m sorry for making you worry so much…”
“Worry doesn’t even begin to cut it,” he barked.  His voice was still low, his hands still dissecting you from the outside, but his body radiated a fierce, overwhelming aura of a pent up fury.  “Please don’t do that again… if you want to go rogue then just tell me.”
You eagerly nodded.  “I will, I promise.”
Law didn’t respond, and instead continued gazing at your apparel.  “You’re so cool…” he whispered, a sudden, jarring shift from his previous words.  “You’re a ninja… holy shit.”
He was nerding out now.  His dominant, protective captain and boyfriend side was dealt with in the form of chastising you for hiding your secret from him, and now he was free to gush.
“I am,” you added, a small, unsure smile pulling at your lips.
“My girl is a ninja… oh my god.”
“I know where the poneglyph is,” you quietly muttered, a vain attempt to see if you could snatch Law’s attention away from you.
“I know.  But you’re a ninja.”
No dice, he was fixated.
“You look like Stealth Black, kinda.  From volume 15 when he and Sora fought over that cityscape in the middle of the night.”  He was transfixed.
“If I’d known you would’ve loved this so much, I would’ve told you a lot sooner,” you chuckled.
Law’s eyes finally tore away from the way you tied your obi, landing on your face.  “We’ll come back for the poneglyph.  We’re going back to the Tang.”
Hello hello,dearie!!
How are you,good?
My name is Nina or Weewoo,self proclaimed platonic (Hazbin) asker!
I have seen your platonic works,and I have to say,you've peeked my interest,darling!
The way you write is very wholesome and cute,so please,indulge me in an ask!
May I request a Zestial,Rosie,Alastor,Vox,Husk,Charlie and Carmilla (you may remove,replace or add character as you so please! I simply like to give a character list so you can choose!) with a platonic!child!reader that loves art but gets really messy with it? A little energetic artist.They're all giddy and happy getting everywhere with the rainbows and sunshines. Maybe one time they get really upset because they messed up,and they start to cry? (If you need an age approximate,maybe 6-10 years old?)
I hope that not too much info!!
Have fun writing this,don't forget to drink,eat,and take breaks!!
Have a fantastic day,honey!
Stay proud.
-Nina <33
A/n: My shift key fell off so I'm having a hard time with that. Sorry if I accidentally didn't capitalize something! (I planned to also do Vox but I couldn't think of anything, I'm so sorry!)
!!not proofread!!
Tumblr media
Roise: Doesn't care that you are messy with art at all! She'll make sure you don't stain or break anything but besides that she lets you go wild. Would probably give you your own art room. Is also very sad when you mess up. She hates seeing you sad. She draws with you to help you feel better.
Alastor: He likes you but stay away from him when painting. He would rather keep having a red suit, rainbow wouldn't suit(ha) him. Though he does give you room to paint and draw where you want. All those spaces are suspiciously close to Husk. Tries (and likely fails) to comfort you when you mess up. Might draw with you to help you smile again. After all, you're never fully dressed without a smile.
Husk: Talks to you while you draw. Kind of like you are a drunk bar patron lol. But instead of their insecurities it's what animals you like (or maybe about your insecurities too.) Very grumpy especially when you get paint on him but he does care deep down. For example, when you mess up he helps you calm down. Gets you some chocolate milk or apple juice or whatever you want <3.
Charlie: Very supportive! She'll draw with you!!! Happy to help get you supplies. While she gets that you're a child and usually wouldn't be that upset about making messes, Nifty keeps giving you death glares and she doesn't want to risk anything. Feels bad when you're upset. She'll get you anything that she can help to make you calm down, and also does a group session on learning about healthy coping mechanisms. It's supposed to help you not break down but everyone in the hotel, including her, could use it.
Carmilla: She has two kids so I'd imagine she has some experience. Hangs your art on the fridge like a true mother. While she does like you being hyper and happy she doesn't think the house needs a new paint job. She'll try to make sure you get most of your paint and markers on the paper. Like I said she has two kids so she is great when comforting you when you mess up. She'll encourage you to try again and might even draw with you if that helps.
OKAY so I genuinely cannot start writing this in earnest without a hell of a lot of planning, buuuuut...I wrote part one in the meantime. Just to get a feel of the thing (🤡🤡🤡) so bone apple tea! Only posting it on here, I won't post it on AO3 until I'm fully ready to go.
Credit goes to @bumblingbriars for giving me the idea of "wait, what if James was the modern one and Theodora was the character in the movies?" -- thank you for this but also how dare you.
As It Was
None of the tales ever spoke of the fear. Why did they never speak of the fear?
It was a stupid question. Theodora knew why. Because it didn’t make for a very good story, did it? People wanted to hear of the bold heroes who defeated the monsters with little more than a smile and the strength of their own two arms. Who wanted to be regaled with stories of stupid women on suicide missions for philandering pirates? No, she wasn’t the hero of this story. She was a cautionary tale. That was all her death would amount to.
Clenching her teeth against furious tears, she doused Jack’s hands in the oil from the lamp, and then held firm to the shackles as he slid his hands free of them. They were the only two left aboard the Pearl…and it was looking like they’d be going down with it.
“You shouldn’t have stayed, darlin’,” he said.
There was a mournfulness to his dark eyes that she’d never seen before. Even now, here, at the end, he couldn’t pretend any more than she could that her death mightn’t be a waste. That it was anything more than an idiot dying for the sake of an unrequited crush.
“Too late now,” she ground out, following it up with a very forced, very strained laugh.
Because if she stopped clenching her jaw, she would definitely begin to sob. And that was the only thing here that could be more pathetic.
“Too late now,” Jack agreed, a bitter smile on his face.
Each second seemed to stretch into an eternity – was that natural, when death was certain and unavoidable? It was supposed to come with a sense of peace, was it not? Of calm? Her father had always said…god, her father. How would he even find out, back in Port Royal? He’d never forgive her for this. It was that thought that had her vision blurring.
Around them, deceptively soft splashes sounded here and there, out of place with how the water usually lapped at the sides of the ship, followed by stomach-churning slick noises…that of the kraken’s appendages. Theo took a deep, shuddering breath in. Too late now.
When she looked at Jack again, searching for words – although she knew not which ones, exactly – she found him forcing a smile. Then, instead of stepping back as she’d expected, he stepped forward. Her eyes closed on instinct as he kissed her, time slowed further still, and she felt…she felt nothing. No breathlessness, no swelling in her chest, no weakness in her knees. Nothing like Elizabeth ever described when it came to Will. Only the scratch of his moustache, the way the beads in his beard clacked against her chin, and the discomfort at the awkward angle of how she’d leaned in.
They parted, and when she opened her eyes, she found Jack watching her, that sadness back on his face again. No joking admonishments at her lack of any reaction, no over-the-top exaggerations at how his prowess had just gone clearly unappreciated. Nothing. Just sorrow. But it was quickly covered by yet another forced smile.
“Come on, darlin,” he drew his sword. “Best have a bit of flair about it, eh?”
Well. She could agree with that, at least. Theo drew her own sword, and took a deep breath in.
There were many things that James actually enjoyed about living with his younger sister…although admitting that to her would be nothing short of a fatality. But Phoebe was a rather good flatmate. She picked up after herself, she didn’t throw parties, and she added life to a flat that would otherwise be rather dead during the times when he was actually in it.
One habit of hers, however, that he could do without was her burning desire to watch the same films over and over again, with scarcely an hour between repeats. It was cyclical, more often than not. Winter belonged to Middle-earth, spring to whatever was newly landed on her radar, and summer – which they were suffering through now – was Pirates of the Caribbean territory. One month in, and he was just about ready to set about his eyeballs with a spoon. Anything to make it stop.
At present, she sat on the sofa across the other side of the room while he pottered about the kitchen, watching enraptured as the redhead on screen turned with teary eyes, side-by-side with Jack Sparrow, to face the kraken that would soon devour them both, the music swelling dramatically as they lifted their swords.
“What I don’t understand is why she had to die,” he said unthinkingly.
And instantly regretted it when Phoebe turned with a grin.
“Ha! You’re getting into it now!”
“If you’re going to insist on watching the damn things ten times a week, I can’t be blamed for noticing bits of them,” he replied sourly, leaning on the countertop. “But they bring him back in the next film, don’t they? Why not her, too?”
“The movie-verse explanation is that she was at peace.”
“Dying for a man who could barely pat her on the head in thanks? Oh, yes, very peaceful. Positively euphoric.”
Curiosity sated, albeit not in a particularly satisfying manner, he straightened and resumed the arduous process of deciding whether he’d be having cereal or real food for dinner.
“Yes. Well,” Phoebe turned her face back to the television, distractedly watching as the kraken devoured the Black Pearl, “the boring explanation is that the actress had a nasty accident just before filming started for the next one, and her bones wouldn’t heal in time for all of the stunts and so on. They had to write her out.”
That made marginally more sense, at least.
“…Much to your disappointment, I suspect,” she added smugly.
“Excuse me?” he raised an eyebrow at her.
“I saw you googling her earlier.”
“I thought I recognised her from something else.”
The fact that his cheeks blazed almost immediately did little to help his argument, but he took some comfort in knowing she was one of the few who could wrench such a reaction from him. If any of his brothers-in-arms could see it, they’d never let him hear the end of it.
“If you say so,” came her smug response.
“And she…emotes rather impressively,” he added.
“Is that what they call it these days?”
James scoffed his disgust…and then he settled on cereal. That would get him out from his sister’s far too knowing gaze much more quickly. But he’d miss it, he knew, next time he deployed.
This piece of art from @actualbampot has been living in my head rent free for a few months. So... I had to write something. Its under the cut.
Ruby felt her heart stop as she watched Cinder place the crown on her head and then… nothing. No flash of light, time didnt seem to stop for her like it did with the other relics, no spirit that both of them could see. All that was in front of her was Cinder dropping to her knees and a glow of blue in her eyes. Not that she really knew what to expect, Ozpin hadnt exactly been very forthcoming with the nature of the crown. Though, it was still… unexpected to see Cinder like this.
She winced as the adrenaline finally started to wear off, wincing as she finally felt the sting of cold air on her open wounds and the burn on her arm. Her legs shook as she tried to keep standing, waiting for whatever Cinder had planned for her. At least, until she heard footsteps start to make their way into the tower.
Ruby looked behind Cinder to see a lone beowolf making its way into the tower and letting out an ear piercing howl. She rushed towards it and sliced through it with her scythe, pausing once she saw more grimm making their way towards her and Cinder. For a moment she thought about leaving Cinder, letting the grimm have at her, but as she turned to look towards her, the thought left her.
“Dammit,” she said quietly under her breath as she readied her scythe once more, legs still unsteady as she watched the grimm come closer. Her eyes stayed glued to the grimm in front, her fingers gripped tighter around the shaft of her scythe. Once the grimm were close enough, she started to slice through each one, twirling around to keep herself and Cinder safe.
But no matter how many grimm she took care of, another always took its place. Beacon was still swarming with grimm, and those grimm were quickly starting to swarm to her and Cinder. Ruby blocked a swipe from and ursa and felt her scythe slip from her fingers and hit the ground. There was no end to the numbers of grimm that came after her, her vision was starting to blur as blood dripped from her forehead into her eyes. Even as she managed to take a moment to catch her breath, she didnt see a way out of this.
“It… it was all a lie,” Cinder quietly said. “I-I followed her… for a lie.”
Ruby turned to look behind her as she listened to Cinder, seeing a single tear start to roll down her cheek. Then, she looked at the grimm once more, a shiver running down her spine as she realized they were waiting. Waiting for her to make her next move. Her eyes glanced at her scythe, too far for her to reach before the grimm would maul her. Her aura still broken and wounds only getting worse as the fight dragged on. With a deep breath, she closed her eyes and focused.
She focused on the words that Maria had told her. “*Life… is beautiful. It is precious. And it must… be protected.*” She opened her eyes and took a step closer towards the grimm as they rushed her and Cinder, her mind focused on one thing and one thing only: to protect Cinder..
Ruby eyes glistened for a moment as a bright, silver light flashed from them. The grimm in front of her disintegrated and her legs finally gave out as she dropped to the ground. She held herself up by her arms as they shook, her breathing ragged as her heart raced. For a moment she waited to feel the claws of a grimm to sink into her, waiting for the pain of a bite that never came. Instead, she heard the crown drop to the ground next to her with a clatter and then a hand touch her shoulder.
On instinct, Ruby turned around and fell back, staring up at Cinder. Her heart raced and her breathing stopped as she waited to see what she wanted, only to see her offer a hand.
“W-would… would you like help up?”
Ruby cautiously took Cinder’s hand and stood up, legs nearly giving out once more until Cinder let her lean against her. “You’re not going to try to kill me?”
Cinder looked away and picked up the crown again to offer it to Ruby. “I’m making a choice. A real choice. All my life I thought power was the only way to freedom, only to find out that I was lied to for years. I… I want to change.”
Ruby nodded and took the crown as she started to hobble forward. “You know I’m still not going to trust you, right?”
“You’re going to have to for a bit. Besides, if I wanted to kill you right now, do you really think you could stop me?”
“No.”
“Then let me get you back to your friends first.”
Ruby let out a soft sigh as she watched Cinder pick up her scythe and help her out of the tower. “And then what are you going to do?”
Cinder shrugged. “Get rid of this arm.”
“I… I think I can help with that.”
“Why would you do that?”
“Because you’re not trying to kill me,” Ruby answered with a small smile. “I dont know what you saw, but, I can see that you’ve changed.”
“Dont make me regret that.”
Ruby nodded and winced. “I wont.”
Wings? [Charles Rowland x fem! alive! supernatural! reader]
a/n: this is quite the long oneshot, longer than expected, but i really enjoyed writing this! i hope you guys enjoy, and feel free to request fics such as these whenever you'd like <3
word count: around 2k.
Tumblr media
"Here, this will be your room, rent is weekly and that is your roommate [name]" Jenny says as she hands Crystal the keys to the room, and gestures a little vaguely at the girl standing infront of them both. "hey Jenny, i thought you said i'd get one roommate, not three?" you ask as you glance at the two boys standing behind who you now know as Crystal, one of them looking intrigued and the other mainly just confused, and Crystal tilts her head a little as if she just made a new discovery "did you forget to take your meds again [name]? there's just Crystal" Jenny rolls her eyes and turns around to leave, saying something about why she even lets you stay here as she walks back to the front of the shop. "so, uh, you can see us?" one of the boys asks, and you take a step back from the sudden startle "oh, sorry mate, didn't mean to startle you, i'm Charles, and this is Edwin" he gives you a charming smile, and you quickly look at Crystal, who, hopefully gently, jabs him in the ribs with her elbow. "Sorry about that, don't worry, i see them too, as you heard from Jenny, my name's Crystal" she holds out a hand to shake, which you slightly hesitantly take "i'm [name]..." "so, are you a psychic like Crystal or have you had a near-death experience?" the one who you heard was called Edwin asks as he takes out a notebook and a pen to write down your answer, and you notice Charles giving him a look that says 'really dude?'. "uh, well, i'm not really sure? strange things have been happening since i was a child, doctors gave me meds for it but they didn't exactly work" you answer. "hm, what kind of strange things? we're the dead boy detectives, me and Charles, i suppose Crystal here joined us recently, but we solve supernatural cases" "yeah, my demon ex-boyfriend stole my memories so, yeah, i'm trying to get them back" Crystal adds. "dead boy detectives? are you two ghosts?" you ask. "yeah, you got that right" Charles says with a bright smile, the type that you would instantly think about if you had to think about him. "right, okay, in that case..." you start to tell your story. "for as long as i can remember, i've been seeing things that others never seemed to notice, the earliest memory i have was that i went to a museum, i was quite young, and i saw someone staring at a wall, and when i got closer i saw that his entire face was cut up, like, something had mauled him, i ran away crying, but my mom said it was all in my head" you continue. "another time was a few years later, i was on the school playground, and since people said i was weird, other kids refused to play with me. i saw this dog, a real sweetheart, and started playing with it, it was only when a teacher came to ask me what i was doing that i was told there was nothing there, and when i looked back at the dog, it dissappeared". "any more recent things? something that doesn't include seeing ghosts? because that would indicate you probably just had a near death experience that you didn't realize, such as getting run over by a, what was it called Charles? a car?" Edwin asks, "jeez, when did you die?" you say with clear disbelief that he forgot what exactly a car was for a second. "he died in the edwardian era, then spent like, 70 years in hell before he got out, i died in the 80's, and stuck around with him" Charles says with a slight shrug. "oh shit, okay, so to answer your question, it was like, eight months ago, i woke up, and i had this" you take off your shirt, Edwin instantly averts his eyes to the floor, meanwhile Charles looks at Edwin instead. you turn around, and show them the tattoo of two bug-like wings going from your shoulderblades down your back. "damn, those are.... really cool"
Crystal says with a nod, and Edwin quickly writes it down. "and what's so strange about that? isn't it just a cool tattoo?" he inquires, not quite getting the strange thing about them yet. "well, i never got a tattoo before in my life, i never got these willingly, and sometimes, i have this nearly painful ache on my back, and when i do it's the worst where the tattoo begins, on my shoulder blades" you answer as you put your shirt back on, much to Edwin's relief as he really wasn't used to seeing stuff like that out of nowhere.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
that first meeting? that was a few weeks ago, and you have become close friends with all of them.
Crystal has become like a sister to you, Niko has joined the team now too after you guys saved her, and even Edwin has been more kind to you, he has his charms sometimes.
and Charles? oh, where to begin.
you two are like two peas in a pod, and at first, Edwin did NOT like that, but he's been more than kind about it now.
at this point, he practically ALWAYS tells you two to go together for cases, and as close as you two are, you hate it.
why? you've fallen, and not even a little.
those smiles he gives you, the way his first concern was you when he got out of that loop in the haunted house, the way he always offers to put your stuff in his infinite bag, the accent, the looks he gives you sometimes, and it's terrible!
you swear its unnatural, to fall for a person who's been dead for decades, to have fallen for someone who probably doesn't love you that way.
nah, you're reading into things, atleast, thats what you tell yourself.
he however? he's the exact same.
the reason why Edwin keeps pairing you two up is because he figured out that Charles likes you, a lot, to the point where Charles had to make a deal with Niko for her to shut up about it too, before you found out.
no way you'd like a person who's already dead right?
when he thought of you, he thought about you making fun of his accent, your wing tattoos, the way you tried to keep his focus on solving the case and on you instead of the murderous scene when you guys were in that house, the way your grin was to die for as you asked about what the 80's were like, the way you hugged him and told him to never do that again as soon as he was out of that dreaded loop, he could swear he saw tears of relief in those gorgeous eyes of yours.
"hey Edwin, i saw 12 cats in total outside, just so you know" you say as you walk in with the groceries for the week, since you and Crystal did still have to eat. Edwin nods and quietly thanks you for helping him count all the cats, Charles walks through the wall into your bedroom before you can say anything, he wanted to tell you how he feels but, was it worth the risk? it would be rather awkward since you'd still have to talk to eachother nearly constantly.
you notice it, though, and you quickly take off your jacket before going into your room too.
"hey Charles, i need to talk to you about something" you say a little nervously, were you really going to do this? really?
"ofcourse mate, what's up?" he tries to sound relaxed, but you don't seem to notice as you quickly ramble on about something he only understands half of.
"yeahsoireallylikeyoulikemorethanafriendandicantreallyhandlehidingitanymoreandireallyloveyoursmileandialwaysendupthinkingaboutyouwhenevericantsleepandihadtopayNikooffusingmanga'stoconvincehertokeepquietbutyeahthatsallpleasedonthateme-" Charles looks at you with confusion, and you take a deep breath.
"okay, so, long story short, summery of that ramble, i really like you, i don't know how, since like, i'm alive and you're dead- wait was that rude? i didn't mean-" before you can finish, you feel his hands on your cheeks as he kisses you, and ofcourse you kiss back.
he pulls away, and look you in the eyes with a loving smile, one you have never seen before "i like you too, so don't even worry about it"
"we'll figure everything out together, yeah?" all you can do is nod as a grin finds its way on you face.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
you woke up with a scream.
your back hurts like hell, and you can feel blood coming down onto the sheets.
in a panic, you quickly go to the bathroom, rushing right past a just woken up Crystal who looks worried.
once in the bathroom, you take off your shirt, though not without struggle as the pain on your back makes it extremely painful to lift your arms so high.
as you take off your shirt, your eyes widen in even more panic as you see the blood that seeped onto it, and you turn around infront of the mirror, seeing blood trickling down your back from your shoulder blades, and... two wings, covered in that same blood, they look exactly like the tattoo you had, but then real.
before you can do any more panicking you hear a knock on the door.
"[name]? you in there? what's wrong?" it's Crystal, though before you can say anything you hear more voices.
"Love? you alright? i'm coming in there if you don't answer, you sounded like you were in pain" Charles. oh no.
he can't see this?! what would he think? you look disgusting, with a bedhead and a bloody back.
"no! no, please just let Edwin in, i can't let you two see me like this.." you say as a few tears roll down your face, apparently your voice sounded like it too as Charles was ready to barge in through the wall anyway if Crystal didn't keep a hold on his arm.
less than a minute later, Edwin comes in, and his eyes widen as he sees the state you are in, and he quickly leaves again.
you stare at yourself in the bathroom mirror as he comes back with a book on... fairy's?
"it's not just about fairy's, it's also about fairy type blessings that they might give to people who went through a lot of negetivity in their life, and what type of blessings they give, clearly we need to figure out yours." he explains before you can question him.
"here it says it's a blessing of the ignored, given to someone who got ignored and waved away whenever they tried to say or convince someone of anything, and the wings were bound to sprout when you feel like you're ready for it, even though you aren't aware of what you're ready for" he explains, and he takes a good look at the 'instructions' of how to atleast clean them up.
"right, i'd say, take a hot shower, put on something like a... backless top or dress? i believe you have those? and we can show Charles, Crystal and Niko and we'll figure out what to do"
all you can do it nod as he leaves again, and you hear some light arguing between him and Charles before you hear Crystal interrupting them and convincing Charles to just sit down at the table and wait.
you took a good, warm shower, though you could instantly tell your wings were sensitive, but tough at the same time.
you put a towel around yourself, and luckily you have a door straight to your bedroom, which Crystal uses aswell, as then she doesn't have to walk past Charles and Edwin when she has showered.
you put on a backless top that you got a year back, but never got to wear as it's usually too cold for it, and some simple jeans and shoes.
you walk out, and see Charles instantly looking relieved as he gets up, though he can tell there's something going on as it's much too cold for that top, and Crystal walks past you in awe as she comes out of her room too, Niko also just walked in from the door with Edwin, and he nods to you to turn around.
and you do.
at first your'e nervous, but then you hear the gasps of awe and you feel Charles gently touch one of them, which makes it twitch a little.
"i did more research when you were showering, turns out the first times are most painful, but you can control wether or not they are as a tattoo or as usable wings, though obviously you must train to do anything with them at all, such as flying. i reccomend that you get more backless tops or tanktops that leave the shoulderblades free, so if we're on a case you could simply take off your shirt and free those wings incase it's needed"
you nod, and before you do anything else, you turn back around, and you spread them.
you look at the floor, but Charles lifts your head back up to meet his eyes, full of wonder. "those are awesome, yeah? we'll help you figure everything out, as always"
"i believe we've gotten a new case, huh?" Crystal says with a slight smile, and you smile back.
you let your wings relax, and without even thinking too much of it, they go back to their tattoo form.
"i suppose we do" Edwin replies.
your family had been eaten by a hoard of walkers. you got out. you didn't know how, in all honesty. you just ran, you ran until you couldn't anymore. you were curled up in your pajamas under a tree around 3 miles away from where you and your parents had been holed up. you weren't even wearing socks. the bottom of your pajamas were wet with snow. so was your back from lying on snow and dirt. you were so cold. your icy tears burned your cheeks as you desperately tried to stay alive.
on the other hand, joel was on patrol. it was calming, or so he thought. he was going down his usual route on his horse, just humming a tune and keeping warm in his jacket. he froze up when he saw you, curled up like that. he thought you were dead until he got closer and heard your weak sniffles and whimpers. and you were clutching a blue teddy bear with one of your hands. it reminded him of sarah. when she got shot, the way she curled up when she knew she was going to die. it broke his heart. he couldn't leave a child like that.
he hopped off his horse, geing careful not to scare you as he approached you.
" hey kid.. what're you doing out here alone? " he said sweetly. he got on his knees and sat you up, you looked terrified. and freezing. you definitely had hypothermia by now. you were practically going blue.
" you alone? " he said, taking note on how you frantically nodded.
" okay. its alright now. ive got you. you're safe. " he said, tearing off his jacket to put it around you instead. he then reached out to pick you up. you clung onto him like a parasite. it was adorable. he made sure to pick up your stuffed animal too, putting it in his gear back. he hopped back on his horse, putting you infront of him since he doubted you had enough strength to hold him to keep yourself on the horse.
it didn't take long for him to be back in jackson. he soon had a worried tommy running over to him.
" what the fuck- whos that? is she dead?! " the younger man shouted, making you flinch and instinctively curl against joel. whimpering.
" calm the fuck down. you're scaring her. i found her in the woods. theres no way i could've left her. she was freezing. " joel muttered. he hopped down from his horse, taking you straight inside his own house and setting you on the couch. he took out your stuffed animal from his gear back, tucking it in your grasp. tommy had followed him inside, sighing loudly.
" you sigh like that again and ill get Maria to shove her foot up your ass. you know how she feels about kids. no child should get left out in the woods to die like that. so i don't know what you expected from me. " to joels relief, tommy shut up after that.
he found a clean tshirt of his, and decided to let you change into that. it wasn't much, and it would definitely be more like a night gown on you, but it was something. its not like he'd have little girls clothes in your size anyways, he wasn't a creep that kept those sorts of things on hand, especially not during the apocalypse.
" here kiddo, change into this. itll be long on you, like a night gown. nice and warm. just lemme know if you need help, its what im here for. " he said, exiting the room along with tommy to give you some privacy. he kept a listen out in case you didn't have the strength to get changed, he was worried you'd collapse or something. you'd barely moved since he'd found you. though he turned his attention to tommy. who had returned back to sighing loudly.
" what're you gonna do with her? keep her?! adopt her?! " tommy said, seething.
" what if i do? what if I do huh? you don't get to decide what the hell i do. i have a spare room, jackson ain't low on supplies, so whats the issue?! that kid needs someone to take care of her, because she was all alone for god knows how long, and i don't care what you say. im going to take care of her. shes my responsibility now. "
tommy was silent. he just nodded. they both perked up at the sound of pattering feet coming towards them. you soon appeared in the doorway. you had gotten changed, and the tshirt was basically a nightgown just like joel thought. it was adorable. the sight of you just staring up at the two of them. you had your stuffed animal in your hand still.
" hey kid. can you talk now? do you wanna tell me your name? " joel said gently, kneeling down so he was at your level.
" .. y/n. " you mumbled, your voice was weak, like it hadn't been used for a long time. joel smiled.
" thats such a pretty name. what happened to your parents y/n? " he said, trying not to make you too upset, but he had to know.
" there.. was a hoard of.. those clicky things.. and they ate my parents.. and i ran.. but it was really cold.. " you muttered, tearing up. in an instant, you were back in joels arms. he held you tight, letting you just cry.
" listen sweetheart, im gonna protect you okay? ill take care of you. i promise. " he said, stroking your hair. he was so gentle, incase he somehow hurt you. tommy couldn't help but smile at the sight.
that night, we found that you wouldn't let him leave you. you were terrified of being alone. which, wasn't that surpising. he ended up taking you into his room, laying down with you. you clung onto him. he found you adorable.
" get some sleep darling, you're safe here. " he muttered, making sure you went to sleep.
those few weeks after, he spent making sure you were well cared for and protected.
he made you food, scavenged for clothes that would actually fit you, made sure you slept well. it all payed off. you were adorable. you still clung onto him constantly and he didn't mind. you were just a scared kid.
eventually, one night you woke him up.
he felt you tugging on his tshirt, and saying something over and over.
" dad, wake up " you were muttering. it melted his heart. he hadn't been called dad in ages. years. it felt so good. he was your dad, you were his daughter. thats all that mattered.
" yea sweetheart? " he mumbled, pulling you close.
you forgot what you were going to ask. all you wanted was your dad to hold you, forever.
